Reviews (page 3 of 8)

Torn between a 3 and a 4. Rod Stewart has a great rock and roll voice. Stay With Me is probably the only song I'd purposefully listen to again, but everything else is good enough that I wouldn't be mad if it played. Short run time gives it the final boost up to 4.

Faces / Early Rod Stewart

A 3 but rating 4 to counteract with the asshat who rated it 1 in the top comments who has terrible taste in music

Mocne 8/10

Rod Stewart has terrible hair. This has nothing to do with the album or how it sounds, but I needed to get that off my chest. It's almost painful to look at him, his hairstyle is SO BAD. Luckily, I only had to listen to him with this album! It's pretty solid rock music. Not a stand out favorite, but good enough to add to genre playlists. Not bad, not bad at all.

Rod the Mod, baby. hell yeah

Solid solid album. I relistened to it a couple of times and it really slaps. Stay with Me, opening with Miss Judy's Farm, etc. It's a bit of a background band sound but that is fine. It's like there's a party going on in the background. Rod Stewart's voice is awesome too.

Enjoyed this album

Daarbij vallen wij toch helemaal weg?

Very nice. I like Rod Stewart, and this is a more rock and roll version of him. Hell yeah

Really enjoyed this album. Have never given Faces a good listen and, honestly, I don't know why. Their sound is right in my wheelhouse.

Rod has such a great 70s rock lead singer voice. I just really knew him from his solo career and radio hits. I apologize Rod, I wasn’t familiar with your game. Ronnie wood is awesome too. 3.6 - the non Rod songs bring it down a bit

You can question some of the choices made by Faces here (like including the Chuck Berry cover 'Memphis'), but ultimately is difficult not to be convinced by Stewarts charisma and the, frankly insane, guitar playing of Ronnie Wood.

Rod Stewart is great as always and Ronnie Wood delivers one stellar guitar performance after another. Especially the piano and guitar parts of McLagan and Wood on the beautiful “Love Lives Here” are stunning. I don’t really care much for the cover of “Memphis” and a few of the bluesier performances, but the charisma, charm and musicianship of Faces somehow always makes it work anyway.

great album!! the only faces album i ever really come back to, but stay with me is one of the best rock and roll songs imo

I remember buying this album when I was 15-16. It was one of those points of pride where I found something that was neither on the radio or in my parents collection...then I remember getting made fun of for listening to "dinosaur music." Well those kids were wrong, this album kicks ass. Stay With Me is the obvious hit, but You're So Rude and Debirs (both coincidentally NOT Rod Stewart songs) really stand out as the strongest from the album. My brother and I frequently played this album in our shared bedroom, trying to learn every guitar lick along the way. There weren't many other points of musical consensus between us - he was *very* into Guns N Roses while I was listening to jazz fusion and R&B players - so it is particularly important to me in that regard. Overall, it is an extremely formative album for my own musicianship.

Toe-tapping, brilliant stuff. Love the guitars especially. Couple of healthy grooves too. I enjoy how organic it feels.

3.8 - I find I really like one or two songs at a time, but too samey for a whole album

Thoughts before listening: Very good, rough around the edges bluesy British rock n roll with Rod Stewart singing. The Faces were never as polished as their contemporaries in the Beatles and Stones, and thats part of their appeal. I own this album and am glad to see it pop up today. Review: Yeah, this is just a fun basic rock album with better than average vocals from Rod. I'm sure the Faces would have been a fun show to see back in their heyday, with their upbeat, rollicking sounds led by piano, walking basslines, and plenty of guitar solos. "Stay With Me" is one of the better songs of this era of rock, and thats my favorite on here as well. 4-stars

Stay with meeee!!

Favorite Track: Debris

Great album name

"A Nod Is As Good As a Wink...To a Blind Horse" is the third album and second in 1971 by British rock group by Faces. Faces were formed by members of the Small Faces Ronnie Lane (bass, acoustic guitar, lead vocals), Ian McLagen (piano, organ, backing vocals) and Kenny Jones (drums, percussion) and Rod Stewart (lead vocals, harmonica) and Ronnie Wood (guitars, harmonica, backing vocals). It was their most successful album reaching #6 in the US and #2 in the UK. A bluesy guitar and a howl start the album and "Miss Judy's Farm." Piano, bass and drums are added. A down and dirty sound. Rod Stewart's distinctive voice. A nice speed up at the end. Ronnie Lane takes over the lead vocals in "You're so Rude." Slower with the piano and organ. A rollicking bluesy groove. An organ and harmonica jam. The band just jams out in "Stay With Me." Wood's famous guitar riff intro. Layered guitars. Stewart in one of his finest moments. "And in the morning, don't tell me you love cause you know I'll only kick you out the door." The band continues to crest with the side two opener "Debris." Lane on lead and Stewart on backing vocals. Acoustic and layered guitars. A bluesy, melancholic ballad. Beautiful song. Wood on a unhinged slide guitar begins the closer "That's All You Need." That guitar continues througout the song. The band joins in and it's a jam. Definitely, their most original song on the album. It's hard not listen to album and not hear the 70's Rolling Stones and I guess that's Wood's influence and great guitar playing. Bluesy-rock romps and ballads. Each of the band members shine. The band is tight and they sound great. Oh, if Rod Stewart could have stayed the course with music like this. This is an excellent album.

One amazing song (Stay With Me) and a bunch of pretty Ok songs. I guess that’s a low 4/5 for me dawg.

A marvelous Rock 'n Roll classic. Raspy vocals, playful guitars, thought out lyrics with some fun themes. All in all a good wake-me-upper for the early morning today

I used to enjoy this album and I apparently still enjoy this album.

This record has a loose, rollicking charm. It feels unpolished but in the best way. The energy is raw, like early Rolling Stones, but with a bit more swagger. Every track feels like a jam session. It’s gritty, but there’s still a lot of heart behind the roughness. There’s an undeniable joy in the chaos.

While not a major achievement, this record is a really nice listen if you’re in the mood for some early 70’s rock. https://open.substack.com/pub/richcain/p/project-1001-a-nod-is-as-good-as?r=4ztyq&utm_campaign=post&utm_medium=web&showWelcomeOnShare=true

It is a classic early blues-based rock record. Although this group of musicians formed from the Jeff Beck Group and the Small Faces were not quite as good as either band. This album has some really good tracks. "Stay with Me" has always been a favorite.

enjoyable sized dose of rod stewart

Like the alternating lead singer model. No egos in the early 70s mod movement

I think I just enjoy Rod Stewart. I had a great time start to finish. Doesnt overstay its welcome. Just come in, hear about heartbreak, and continue on your day. Maybe I was just in the mood for some 70's rock. I've had Debris on repeat for a bit.

Always nice to hear Rotten Roddy! “Stay With Me” is a great song and always reminds me of Wedding Crashers. Fun album

first listen good jams and good fretwork

i didn't known Rod Stewart was on this level of "borrowing heavily" from Southern (US) rock sounds but as usual, better than prog rock.

This is actually a decent album and I was not expecting that. But I don't think he's sexy.

Let’s be honest, this is pretty much a Rod Stewart album. Well, before the late 80’s I guess. Welllllll it’s more of a cooler Rod Stewart album. More rock sound, more groove. There is also someone who sings on this album that sounds like George Harrison. He does a good job when pushed to the forefront. I’m not disappointed with this album at all. Choice cut: Stay With Me

36 minutes of solid 70's guitar driven rock n roll with Rod Stewart at the helm.

Ég hafði ekki hugmynd um að Rod Stewart og Ron Wood hafi verið saman í hljómsveit. Fyrir mér hafði Rod alltaf verið sólólistamaður og Ron fæddist inn í Rolling Stones en svo kemur þessi plata og umturnar öllu. Góð plata sem ég mun þurfa að hlusta á aftur

Most of my experience with Rod Stewart comes from my CD of his album 'Every Picture Tells A Story', and this stuff is pretty similar to that, but less folk-y. British people playing in a style reminiscent of the American (usually black) South is not anything novel, but these guys did it quite well. The softer songs such as 'Love Lives Here' and 'Debris' are very wonderful, and I love the prog rock-esque organ, steel drum (?) and cool song structure on 'That's All You Need'.

Not bad.

Great proto-butt rock from Rod Stewart and company. I love the Faces singles more than any single LP, but if I had to pick a favorite it would be this one. Great guitars and the songs are excellent all around.

Rod Stewart's upbringing is a classic rock staple.

While bands like Cream, the Yardbirds, etc. were stumbling their ways into the British Blues revival I would argue that Faces with Rod Stewart's distinctive gravely voice and Ronnie Lane's skilled handling of the guitar were slipping through with a mastery of the genre. 4/5.

In general, I do not like Rod Stewart. I always thought it was his voice alone, but hearing him here with Faces I don't have the same knee-jerk reaction that I get in his solo work. Love Lives Here is a great song. Stay with Me has a nice groove to it. Stewart's voice only serves to accentuate the crunchiness of the instrumentals. Also saw a reddit thread recently asking for songs where the singer shouts "guitar" followed by a solo, and this one fits the bill. That's All You Need is a fantastic album closer. Love the way the guitar is laced in distortion and kind of lags Stewart in a drunken way, before giving way midway through to an expansive effects laden blues solo. This was some high quality classic rock to start the day. Strong 4 / 5 for me.

Immediately can hear Rod Stewart on this one. Not familiar with any of his band stuff. This was a pleasant delight this morning. Really good original classic rock sound. Stay With Me was the only one I was familiar with and it still rocks. Also cool it has Ronnie Wood in it and produced by (again) Glyn Johns.

I liked this one! Very much in the vein of the fun 1970s rock we listen to around the house.

This was a really good album! I never listened to it before but I like it a lot. I will listen to it again for sure.

Two days in a row of Rod is a good thing. Stay With Me is the obvious standout, but there were other high points too. And with Ron Wood moving to guitar duties from his bass position in the Jeff Beck band it clearly sets the stage for why he was a soon-to-be perfect fit for the Stones. With a resume and collab list too long to name, Ian McLagen on keys is an unsung hero on this too.

How about another helping of The Stew?? Another good one, definitely some highs and lows here but enough to get a 4 for me.

Rodney Stew rock block! Stay With Me is my jam, but on the whole I didn't enjoy this album as much as Jeff Beck's Truth from yesterday. I probably should have rated that one slightly higher, but both end up in the 4* category. 3.5/5

I was like.. Here we go, another random album with a silly name. Pleasantly surprised with a pretty good blues rock album with nice piano parts backing up the vibes. Generous 4/5.

Rock on! This is what Rod Stewart could have become with a good backing band! 4.1

Very good

Love the classic mix and old school rock sound of this album.

Not Rod's best work, not terribly original but still solid rock and roll. Good for 3.51 stars.

This album is so underrated!

Yeah. It’s no secret I like Rod Stewart.

Never heard this before- wasn’t expecting a lot. Was very surprised. This is a stone cold banger- ballads aside.

Classic

Solid bluesy classic rock.

That was good. Listened to it twice - was distracted early so came back to give it a proper listen.

You had me at Rod Stewart! Loved this!

Opening groove alone with the driving beat below the swung accents is worthy of a 3 by itself, you never hear that.

Jangly in a composed fashion, raw, a lotta garage, spilled booze, and rusty wagon wheels on this one. Very solid, very classic rock album Bangers: "Stay With Me", "Memphis",

Old time Rock&Roll!

So much fun. Some of the first that I'll come back to

Ronnie Woods distinctive 'dirty' guitar sound is brilliant. Some rwally good songs here - 'Love Lives Here' from this 1971 album very obviously formed the basis of the Rolling Stones 'Fool to cry'.(released in 1976 - Ronnie toured with the Stones in 1975 and joined them in April 1976). Couple of Ronnie Lane vocals, which are good. The Faces embodied the spirit of rock n roll. A brilliant band.

You read the album title and if you don’t know you’re probably like - oh boy, this is gonna be bad - and then in no time flat you’re like, hey this is pretty good, and 10 seconds later you’re like - hey that’s frigging Rod Stewart LOL.

Some nice classic rock from a band I've never heard of before. Good use of keys too, although it was nothing revolutionary

If a nod is as good as a wink to a blind horse, then what's the opposite of that? How would a not-blind horse feel about a random person winking at it? Would it acknowledge it? Would it not register at all? And when was a nod considered a good enough gesture? Have words ceased to suffice? Surely a nod is seen as being a positive thing of affirmation but still... why? Anyways, this album from the Faces is pretty cracking. Favorites: Miss Judy's Farm, You're So Rude, Love Lives Here, Stay With Me, Memphis, That's All You Need.

Killer. Good shit.

the kinda 70s thing i fuck with

Much better than I expected. Stay With Me is fantastic.

Rod Stewart als er noch jung war.

A solid album. I love the mix of lounge rock and piano. "Stay With Me" is a banger. Every song is good, but not always memorable.

Rod Stewart's voice is so distinctive and is backed up by some solid grooves.

The more I do this list the more I appreciate short albums. I appreciate this album. Also enjoyed the faces songs beyond Oh La La. Solid album.

Never listened to much of Rod Stewart so I went into this kinda blind. And I'm quite surprised at this album, it's pretty good. Might be a tad generous but I'm feeling a light 4 on this album. I can always appreciate when an album just radiates energy and vibes. Also Ros Stewart has a really interesting singing voice.

A pleasant surprise. Very energetic album, Rod Steward is a special talent. Enjoyable listen, a 4 with some goodwill is fair here.

Enjoyed. Classic with some great names still making music

It was in 3 territory but I was really enjoying it by the end. He does have a nice voice old Roderick

- Einige Songs (z.B.

What a wild and crazy fuckin party of genius misfits this is. I mean pour out a triple scotch and let's go! These were the seeds of so many superbands and it shows. It's like they're not even trying, just doing it for fun.

Not a huge Rod Stewart guy but this album is pretty decent. The band is really tight and the jams are great. Much better than his solo stuff

Good album, love stewarts voice

This was fun. I haven't listened the faces much though I've always meant to.

Pretty dependable rock and roll. Rod’s songs definitely better than Ronnie’s. Not up to the level of the other greats from this time period, but still very good. 3.5/5

Totally embarrassed that I never knew about Faces. So glad for this app and my aunt & uncle! ☺️ Of course Ron and Rod are amazing but I love the keyboards!

Just a good old-school rocker. Faces were as good as the Stones, should've had a bigger following.

I can't believe this album was made by a British rock group. It sounds absolutely like an early rock album from the US south.

Some sloppy good rock

Some classics here

Never heard Faces, not huge on Rod Stewart's solo stuff, but I like this more. Loose rock and roll, a good vibe.

Pretty good.

Good sloppy pop-rock.

I just learned about Faces in the last year. I like them.

Great rock record

Great album

Very good

I love how much British rockers from the late 60s - early 70s loved electric blues. The strings bend and moan and the vocals wine and cry and ground the listener into feeling something. They even get some good slides on the guitar in a few songs. This is especially with songs like Love Lives Here and Debris. They're nailing the blues with those songs. The more conventional rock songs are also great, Rod Stewart is excellent on the vocals of songs like Miss Judy's Farm and Memphis. This album feels like everything you'd want in a 70s electric blues album. Its great.

classic rock

Really liked this album.

This was fun and an easy listen.. Rod when he was still cool. Loved it

I'm learning that I really like this rock-a-billy/bluesy rock kind of music, and this album is no exception. A few moments really stand out, but otherwise, so far, solid throughout. The tempo changes are sooooo good.

This album is an from a British rock group of the early 70s, a short-live project that included Rod Stewart and Ron Wood. This is a collection of fun, loose rock songs, like "Stay with Me," which showcases Rod Stewart's raspy, vocal prowess. The album also includes a cover of Chuck Berry's "Memphis," providing a glimpse of the inspiration for Faces and British rock of the time.

One vastly prefers the mellower cuts – "Love Lives Here" and "Debris" – to the raggedy, bell-bottom-y rockers, such as the sturdy but stupid "Stay with Me." Did someone spill booze or other liquids on the tape for "Memphis, TN"? To be fair, the cut does trail off pretty enjoyably, with some rollicking roadhouse-y piano and woozy-warbly guitar action. One likes the simplicity of attack -- this was natural to the point of organic rock, almost free-range in its conception and execution. Highly accruate artifact of the early '70s, too. And there are just enough fun flourishes (the ttile, say, and the generally larky-winky tone of the whole thing and is that a steel drum on the closer?) to get it above repalacement level (if not by a mile). It sort of all comes down to Hot Rod, who's something of a love-him-or-hate-him figure –a lightning Rod, if you will. One's always had a soft spot for him (even liking the outputs from some of his dodgiest decisions – boater hats, disco, American songbook) plus nobody ever did the basic rock "whoo" more persuasively or smoothly than RS. Net-net, one mostly digs this record, even with its considerable1971-y limitations, though likely won't ever go too terribly far out of one's way to listen again, it being Stones-lite as much as it's anything at all.

Standout: Stay With Me Others: Miss Judy's Farm, Love Lives Here, You're So Rude, 4/5

Good listen but nothing stood out to me. Liked the bluesy rocky vibe. Light 4.

Rod is great on this album and there’s lots of great rock songs on here. Very enjoyable listen

Good bluesy rock and roll. You can see why Ron Wood fit into the Rolling Stones so seamlessly. Rod Stewart does a really good job here as well.

After hearing this I understand why Ron Wood was such an obvious fit for The Rolling Stones after Mick Taylor’s departure. The guitar on “you’re so rude" is awesome, and I expected to be bored by the Chuck Berry cover, but their jam took the song to a really interesting place for me. Not quite a 5 but overall a very good album and one I'm glad I heard.

Classic blue-eyed blues. Ronnie Wood is a master of the blues guitar. Rod sings so roughly that I’m surprised he hasn’t lost his voice.

I love Faces. Yeah it's just classic rock 'n' roll but it's great fun. Rod Stewart's voice is so good in this. Funny we had one of his albums just the other day.

A rollocking bit of rock fun

Smiley

Does Rod Stewart get some award for being featured in three "1001" albums released in a two-year-period? (Or even four albums in a four year period if you could the Jeff Beck album.) Hmmm. This was good, I'll freely admit, but I didn't love it lots, or feel that I was getting something I hadn't gotten before.

Although I was not familiar with this album, it really didn’t hold any surprises. It sounded like what I expected.

Matched my expectations. It's good, possibly my favorite way to listen to Rod Stewart. I think the blues-rock category, as much as I like it, is perhaps overrepresented on this list. This is good, but not much of a revelation.

Memphis! Such a good song. Solid album all the way.

I had a wrong image of this band. I thought they were uninspired, a little boring and cheesy. A water down version of the Stones. This album kind of changed my mind.

Sweet album! I’m not a huge Rod Stewart fan, but in Faces I dig his role a bit more rather than being the main singer. It’s a great musical album and it features some classic songs! 7,5 out of 10

Pretty good rock album, the first half was pretty great A lot of interesting riffs and musical ideas... 3.5 probably it doesn't all land

Early rockin' Rod is good Rod. And this is a very good album. Stay with me is the obvious standout, but it all has a Rolling Stonesy early '70s rock vibe.

Just a good rock album. 9 songs, over in 36 minutes. Good mix of Rod’s iconic voice mixed with Ronnie Lane’s softer touch. A good rock band making a fun album to listen to.

One shares Nick Hornby's sense of Hot Rod as a guilty (occasionally embarrassing) pleasure. Stones-Lite is the obvious knock against it, but the essential 1971ness feels perfectly executed. One quite likes the more organic and soulful bits ("Love Lives Here" and " "). Unfortunately, "Stay with Me" is a best-of-breed when it comes to ragged, raffish sexist rocker. "Memphis" is a pretty forgettable cover; were they playing in their sleep? Like the whole thing, it's so laddish that it comes off as mostly fun, with the odd touches (like the steel drums toward the end of the closer) playing pretty close to charming.

Ignoring what Rod became, I do love the swagger on The Faces records. Unchallenging blues rock, perhaps, but enjoyable.

Sometimes it’s good to remember that Rod Stewart really was a generational talent. “Stay with Me” is an all-time rocker, although little of the album truly compares to it. Still a good time though. B

A very proper rock albums filled with legends and amazing yet simple guitar riffs.

This album could probably be used as reference material for the genre of "Classic Rock", it's exactly what one stereotypically thinks and expects of the genre

nice dog barks at the beginning of the album. pretty chill though.

Favourite tracks: stay with me; debris; memphis

It wasn’t super memorable for me but this was a pretty solid blues rock album. I’m usually not a huge rod stewart fan but his voice really fit the bluesy electric guitar.

I had no idea Rod Stewart was in this band, nor had I heard of the band Faces before. I’ve definitely heard “Stay with Me” though. This was a nice, 70’s blues/country rock album that sounds great all around.

This was a pleasant surprise....I knew a band with Rod Steward and Ron Wood existed, but had never heard the actual album....Great group

Loved it!

I guess Rod Stewart doesn't always suck?

Pretty great blues rock this Stay With Me and the Chuck Berry cover are brilliant in particular

Cool rock music. I enjoyed it a lot.

Rod Stewart was(/is) a total baller. What a scene they had in England in that time around 1970 eh? This record was a bit sloppy but I actually loved it. It sounded quite 'live' and 'single-take'-ish though I'm not sure if it was or not. Ronnie Wood + Rod Stewart + Glyn Johns is a great combo, turns out.

This quite surprised me. Rod Stewart had never been anything much other than a joke, joining Peter Stringfellow as a long-blond haired twat with too much money and a penchant for women decades younger than him. Turns out he can actually throw out some tunes. Sure, I don't think my world has much been changed by it, but it does go to show that sometimes there's a legit reason for someone to have absurd amounts of money,

I'd only heard two tracks by Faces, the two that we've all heard: "Stay With Me" and "Ooh La La". But this album proved that they had more than those two songs. The instrumentation across this album is so warm. It just feels like good classic rock. Why did Rod Stewart have to go solo and ruin this stellar vibe?

Bangers. Love the vibes, especially the last half of the album

good imo

Great 70’s music right y’all!!!

Good ole R Stew. A fun addition to the day.

I got chills from the "Oww owwww howwwllll" from the opener. Let's start this Friday. I've never been into Rod Stewart, wow, what a voice. It's strained, and soft, fluid yet chunky. The band only shows that the 70's knew how to rock with their cocks out. "Debris" hit me softly, "Memphis" and "That's all you need" came in and set me up for the day. Great album, imagine seeing this live!!!!

It’s just a great rock and roll album

One of the two Faces albums in my album collection - might be the best one. I would not go so far to call this a classic, but it is certainly a very decent album.

I don't love Rod, but I do love the guitar tone.

This record has some undeniable swagger. Killer vocals too. Faves: Miss Judy's Farm, Stay With me, Debris, Memphis, Too Bad, That's All You Need. 4/5.

Pretty good rock album with great songs and riffs. Lots of personality shown here. 8/10

By far the best thing Rod Stewart has ever done. Best track: Stay with Me

Love Faces, Rod Stewart and Ronnie Wood always mixed well for me. Stay With Me is an all-time top 10 classic rock song for me. Really enjoyed this album, and first song that played after was Ain't Wastin Time No More by Allman Brothers.

Real guitar. Nice balance between instruments and vocals. Very 70s sound.

Very good and fun and probably shaped rock I assume

So good! Love me some pre-Disco Rod Stewart.

Some serious bangers in here

Vibrant blues, boogie country rock and roll, great performances, it sounds lively and its exciting to listen to due to the energy and spice added by a fun band of drunken friends.

Probably overshadowed a bit by the presence of Rod Stewart is the fact that Faces, in itself, was a damn solid band.

What a fun album. Just a great, classic rock and roll album in all the best ways. It's loose and bluesy with top notch musicianship and soulful, gritty vocals by Rod Stewart and Ronnie Lane. Probably the best album the Faces ever put out. "Stay with Me" is the obvious star track, a true classic. Rod is in perfect voice here and this is almost as good as he gets. But I've got to say, I'm enjoying the Ronnie Lane songs today. He's an unusual but underrated vocalist. Fave Songs: Stay with Me, Debris, Last Orders Please, Too Bad, That's All You Need, Memphis

Super fun. Had no idea Rod Stewart was in this!

Good mix of songs, very good easy listening album

Great album. Rod Stewart’s vocals really ring out.

My first experience of ‘why didn’t I know about this before?’ - great classic 70s rock - reminded me of Big Star - brilliant!

Fun album. Favorite track: Memphis

Had no idea Rod Stewart was ever in a band outside of his solo act. Pleasant surprise! This reminds me of the music my dad listened to while I was growing up. Some fun, bluesy, honky tonk goodness. Very enjoyable.

New to Faces, I didn't expect this from a Rod Stewart project at all. His brand of idiosyncrasy is not usually so diverse, and the effect is much more relaxed than one would expect from the melting pot. This record isn't particularly exciting, but the blend of influences is as tasteful as it can be with that drunken piano going on and on. I enjoyed that, though, and the instrumentation's evolution to the end. As always where violins are mentioned and guitar tones bent, I feel generous.

Nice, I always liked Rod Stewart and this album is partly RS, partly bluesy rock.

The sound of a band having fun!

I hear blues and i hear rock and i give stars

I'm surprised how much I like Rod Stewart's older stuff. My introduction to him was in the 80s and I wasn't a fan. But Gasoline Alley and this album are really pretty good.

Prefs: You're So Rude, Love Lives Here, Stay With Me, Debris, Memphis, Too Bad, That's All You Need Moins pref: Last Orders Please

It is so easy to forget that at some point Rod Stewart wasn’t awful.

First Rod I've enjoyed since the start of the list. Some talented musicians all over this thing.

Thoroughly enjoyed this album, and would definitely listen again and to more of their stuff.

Really good album, but of its time and I don't think I'll listen to it again.

You know this one album actually surprised me. Thought it was gonna be your generic rock album with some singing and repetitive songs but was pleasantly surprised by several unique pieces as well as themes from love and heartbreaks with good ol rock and roll

Fun album, good energy. Some strange musical choices here and there

Obviously inspired music I like but not my thing

Some pretty high quality blues-infused old-school hard rock. Really not much more to say. I enjoyed it a lot and had fun having it on. On the other hand, there's nothing on here I haven't heard before from other bands.

Goeie rock n roll.

Really liked it, was much better than I expected! I'll definitely listen to it again.

Did not know Rod Stewart was a part of this band. Great rock album!

actually really good kinda like the kinks or the who but more consistent 4.5

Don't think I'll ever be much of a Rod fan, but this blows the shit out of his 71 solo effort Every Picture Tells a Story, that seems a lifeless pile of junk in comparison. Shows just how talented The Faces were to make Stewart sound as good as this.

Very chill, singalong rock

okay, nice to listen nothing stands out

Beste songs miss Judy's farm last orders please stay with me memphis

Even at its hokiest and most derivative, there is a strain of 1970s rock that is still very listenable because it has a certain groove and feeling behind it. 'A Nod's...' falls squarely in this category, although I'm doing it a little disservice as some of the material is strong - 'Miss Judy's Farm' heaves and sweats, 'Stay With Me' is rollicking good fun, and the ballads are generally done well. Also in its favour are two distinctive vocalists, which add a little variety to the mix. Overall, the tumbledown charm mitigates against hearing yet another uninspiring minor pentatonic blooz rock riff being squeezed out for the umpteenth time. This album is like an arm thrown boozily around the shoulder by some reprobate mate as he leads you to another bar - even though you had originally planned for a quiet pint or two. Good fun!

So fun! I had not known of this band; always thought 'Stay With Me', the only song I had heard before from this album, was a song Rod Stewart did on his own. I didn't even know who was in the band when I clicked 'play' to start it up. Side Note: as the first track opened, I immediately thought of The Black Crowes' 'Jealous Again'. I like The Black Crowes and I like that song, and I'm not at all suggesting they copied that track. Nearly every rock song can be connected to so many that came before it, and those all can be connected to old blues songs that came before them, so I don't get too hung up on "originality" in that context. (For what it's worth, I find originality in music for me flows more from sound, style, melody, how they interpret and apply all those things, etc.) I'm not a huge Rod Stewart fan -- don't dislike him, just never been all that interested -- but this is a good album. Ronnie Lane's voice reminds me a little of Velvet Underground's sound. Ronnie Wood is a fantastic blues-rock guitarist and I can really hear it here. Hearing Ronnie Wood and Kenney Jones in this band is great. Ah, the things I learn from this project!

First thought: Never heard of these guys Second thought: That sounds a hell of a lot like Rod Stewart. Third Thought: Oh no, this guy sounds totally different on song 2 I must have imaged it Stay with Me is a banger, it's cute that Rod lets the other guy sing every other song, though you'd think he'd be more focused on putting out a good album. Seems like Rod's songs are all awesome, and this other dude is just dragging things down a bit. Was originally planning to give this a 3, but the last batch of tracks from Stay With Me onwards was pretty solid so I'll bump it to a 4.

Fantastic through and through

-Cool jams with guitar, piano, drums, and assorted other instruments in "Miss Judy's Farm," "Debris," "Memphis," 'too Bad," and "That's All You Need." -"Debris" is reminding me a bit of Bob Dylan -Very solid blues-y rock album

Nice blues rock and Rod Stewart is great

3.5 stars. I thought the singer sounded like Rod Stewart... sure enough, it was.

A straight up rock n' roll landmark. It's not complicated, but all the parts come together perfectly. The highlight is Stay with Me. Sure, the lyrics are horrible and misogynistic, but damn if it doesn't rock. I think if I had to pick one song that best embodies the spirit of rock and roll, this would be it. 4 stars.

Very very good

From the opener, a refreshing blues sound with great mixing. A pure blues rock record. Towards the end of the record are some great instrumental cuts, interspersed with vocals. I liked hearing the steel drum in the final track. The guitar sound is nice and crunchy, and it’s obvious these guys know how to play.

An early 70s banger. full of swagger and self confidence. Particularly album highlight "stay with me"

Found a cool new slower song I didn't know of

Standard classic rock sound of the early 70s. It’s one of my favorite genres and this album was no exception. Solid listen and I actually think I liked this better than Rod Stewart’s solo stuff.

Great. And Rod's voice is outstanding.

Really enjoyable. Was a 3.5 album but have give 4

Not heard Faces before, enjoyed this album.

Ah, Rod. This would be pub-faire blues rock without his standout rawkish voice. Album was never a success but it did give us "Stay with me" which in immense. An enjoyable 35 minutes.

Groovy rock.

Really good rock. Solid album.

Solid classic rock throughout

7/10 solid rock album with a few standouts

Listenable rock n roll. 7/10

variety of classic rock

Damn this record just don’t stop growing! Good find.

Enjoyed it!

It took me a few songs before I realised what I was listening to. The stones with Rod and a slice of who, I didn't know this was a thing.

Good album, nice beats, had cool beach drums

generally ok!

not bad, classy roddy

Some classics, a little slow

Jaaa, endlich ein Album was ich mochte. Nice Musik, nice Stimme

Nog nooit eerder gehoord, maar goede 70s rock!

Nice one

Interesting listen

upbeat, Rod Stewart can really belt it out, decent album

It's frustrating to hear Rod Stewart solo music after how great his stuff with Faces and Jeff Beck is...

This album was right up my alley. The blues-rock genre is already something I really enjoy, so this fit right in. The production of the album overall felt very genuine and laid back. I'd point specifically to the track Too Bad as a good example of this. Every instrument has it's place and each stands out so clearly that I feel like I'm hanging out in the room with the band playing around me. I was also pleasantly surprised by the clarity and grit of Rod's vocals. Overall a fun listen and a band that I'm curious to hear more of. and I was pleasantly surprised by the grit of Rob Stewart's vocals.

first one i truly did not know! cool songz

Dirty.... Gritty.... classic

Old-school rock'n'roll, liked the hard panning. The problem is I don't like rock'n'roll.

I forget that this band existed

I was a groomsman in a wedding where a song by Faces was played as we walked down the aisle. That's the first time I heard Faces and Rod Stewart's rockier side. It's great. Love it. He's such a great singer. This record is cool but listening while working it just sort of blends together. Nothing stands out. But it's excellent.

I feel dumb that Ive never heard of this all-star band, but I’m glad I know about them now. Solid album - like discovering each of these guys again.

Putting the roll in rock n roll, these guys sound they had a blast rolling through these tracks. A fun album that could’ve easily been recorded at a party for how fun it sounds.

Tremendous 60s/70s bluesy rock n roll. I understand why Black Crowes and Reef ripped this off.

Always a sucker for albums mentioning Memphis.

Bluesy-rock sound. Little Richard with more guitar and less soul

3.5/5. Pretty good and different. I liked the guitar on Memphis. I knew a few faces songs before but have never heard any off this album.

Comunque bello!

Some classic rock, sounds a bit like the stones, very good.

Great classic rock and blues. Superb Rod Stewart!

Bluesy and jammy

Pretty good! Very Boogie with a bit of country.

pretty fun like 1970's drunk bluesy singing filtered through weird british people type music. lyrics are pretty insanely misogynistic.

Very nice

As classic rock as it gets. Kinda Beatles inspired as well I feel. “That’s All You Need” was the standout for me

country rock kinda chill

Tremendous album! Loved it!

It was good. 70s jam-band and a little blues

Good blues album.

Just a good ol’ fashioned summertime rock and roll album!

Good album! Memphis and the last track were my faves

Powerful voice and great songs. Joyful melodies with a dose of serotonin, I really enjoyed listen this album

Was soll man kritisieren?

Great listen

Decent. Will listen again deffo.

Cuatro de cinco

I've always liked Rod Stewart and The Faces; they're a true old school rock band

Solid rock album, fun vibes and lots of energy. Didn't know them before, so fun to discover!

This is some world class rock & roll! Great album just starting from the title

Muy Rod Stewart

Old time Rock&Roll!

I hadn't heard of this band before (at least I don't think so) but I was pleasantly surprised to hear Rod Stewart's voice in the opening song. I don't know that this album rocked my world but it was definitely easy enough to listen to.

Rock clásico. Muy bueno.

These are fun songs. This is a nice way to listen to Rod Stewart, because although I like him, I tire of his voice but with Ronnie Wood alternating on lead vocals throughout the album, it creates a nice balance.

good classic rock

Solid front to back. Amazing that Rod Stewart was doing both this and his solo career so stellar at the same time.

Rod should have sung every song!

Good rock

Works for me. Sounds like a good drinking album. Kinda wish Rod Stewart sang lead on every track though.

No complaints

Pleasantly surprised. Before listening to this I'd have said under 40 minutes is plenty of Rod Stewart at once. I always wondered what the fuss was with him but actually his voice sounded great on this album.

Is that Rod Stewart? Yes, this was the band he was with. Very easy to listen to "soft rock" with a very groovy vibe. If I lived in 1971 this would have been an album I would own.

Good rockyness Short and sweet Propa rock and roll

Solid 70s rock n roll

Rod's voice is iconic and "Stay With Me" is an all-out banger of a song. If it had a couple more hits, it would be a perfect classic rock album.

Very solid early 70s rock’n’roll

Out of all my Star ratings, the “3s” form the largest category. Naturally, there’s going to be a lot of variety, with “good 3s” and “bad 3d” and everything in between. I know it might be a bit early to call, but this might be (one of) the most “mid 3s” on the entire project. Like if I make a giant chart after listening to every single album and definitively place each album either above or below each other I think this album will be about 10 spots away or less from the exact middle of the chart. The negative emotions and positive emotions from listening cancelled out and there was 0 change in my mental state between the start and end other than “I had to listen to the album and now I have listened to the album”

Overall: 6/10 I think this is the best vehicle for Rod Stewart's voice. I've never really been a fan of his because he sounds like he gargles glass before he sings, but it works for this type of classic rock. The band itself is prettt good too, and I like the songs they put together here for the most part. Some of it was generic and uninteresting but there's some gems in here. Fav Song: Stay with Me
