My feet just want to dance. How am I supposed to stop them with music like this!?
Listened Before? N This one is a scorcher of a rock-n-roll album! Starts you off with the classic "wop bop a loo bop..." and doesn't let up. Some dated lyrics but still fun. Added to library? N Songs added to playlist: Tutti Frutti
Little Richard may have been small in stature, but few artists loom larger over the early history of rock & roll. 𝘏𝘦𝘳𝘦’𝘴 𝘓𝘪𝘵𝘵𝘭𝘦 𝘙𝘪𝘤𝘩𝘢𝘳𝘥 is packed with the energy and charisma that helped shape the genre, and classics like 𝗧𝘂𝘁𝘁𝗶 𝗙𝗿𝘂𝘁𝘁𝗶 and 𝗟𝗼𝗻𝗴 𝗧𝗮𝗹𝗹 𝗦𝗮𝗹𝗹𝘆 still sound remarkably vibrant today. What stands out most is just how much of rock music is already present here. The pounding piano, the wild vocals, and the relentless momentum would influence countless artists over the following decades. At the same time, the album can be a bit much for me. Little Richard’s trademark whoops and screams are undeniably part of his appeal, but after a while they start to wear me down rather than pull me in. I completely understand why he’s considered one of the architects of rock & roll; I just don’t always enjoy spending an entire album in his company.
6+ / 10
Classic
WHA BUAM BALUDUM WHA BUAM DALDAUM. Very the same sounding
I've been enjoying these 50's records appearences so this should be cool. The most contact I've had with Little Richard is from an impersonation of him on Drag Race. Let's see!! Tutti Frutti is fun I guess, but nothing out of this world. It is fun to realize that he really does the high pitched "Uuuuhhhh". Second track follows the same energy but for some reason works much better. I think the backing vocals and the not-so-dumb subject matter help it (as especially that last factor held down the first song). Can't Believe is less dance blues and more sad blues. Like it. Ready Teddy is a lot of fun! Makes me want to dance! Good! I don't have that much to say about the songs in between, as they sound very similar to each other. Some slower, some faster, but all whithin the dance blues genre. Good! I don't have much to say about this album. It was fun, and there were no bad moments, but there also weren't that many that jumped out for their outstanding quality. Even whithin the genre, I feel like I've heard other records that did what this does but better. It gets repetitive, but the length (under 30 minutes) prevents that from being too big an issue. Again, it's good
Strong start! But not really my cup of tea. That little man sure can sing tho
Old school pop. It was aight. Not something I would listen to normally. You can tell Paul McCartney took that woo from Little Richard
It certainly is Little Richard.
I generally don't really enjoy 50's rock and roll music all that much, aside from the historical significance of it. At the risk of being obvious, most of it sounds very dated and many of the songs from each artist sound so similar. Little Richard is of course one of the Mount Rushmore early rockers, so he deserves to be on the list. But I only really enjoyed a few of these songs and found so much of it repetitive. Standouts for me were Ready Teddy, Can't Believe You Wanna Leave, and Slippin' and Slidin'. I didn't love them, but they were better than the others.
The talent is obviously there, and it clearly paved a way for lots of artists, but it's definitely corny by today's standards.
After further consideration, I liked it a bit more than I thought, I just wish he didn’t go ‘WOOOO’ all the damn time
this shit got my gam gam spinning and doing cartwheels and going ape shit on the plastic wrapped couch in the living room rn
the most Little Richard album of all time. this is pretty good, i think the audio mixing is a little off for my taste, plus the songs are a bit repetitive. still a good listen though
not rapt with this but a 2 implies negative feelings, which I don't really have, I just think I need a time machine to properly enjoy this album tbh
God bless this record, and it is a bit of fun. Feels like it might have some replay value for ironic reasons, but that's about where it stops for me.
This is a tough one. Little Richard is hugely influential and some of these albums are amazing moments where you can see the brith of rock and roll. But. This list is about personal preference and in that way while there were the expected amazing tracks, it was also the same 1 track again and again. Also personally just not the sort of music I'm huge into.
Listening session: june 9th, while reading Listened to before: heard one song before Thoughts: this album makes me wanna twist like I’m at a high school dance in the 50s Favourite tracks: Tutti Frutti & Long Talk Sally (The Thing)
Good stuff here, but not a lot of variety. Chuck Berry is arguably the same, but he actually has a wider range of songs. The Beatles were big fans of Little Richard and did several of his songs in concert in their early days. For 1957 this must have been quite an album to stumble upon.
Punk can’t le punk mais pas assez punk
6/10 Very catchy and fun time.
Good mood but got tired after a while
definitely a very influential album, but not my taste and i probably wouldn’t listen again
Hip-twisting music, fun stuff. Not much to analyze here.
Partially known. Fun.
May 27th, 2026 True, fine Mama & Can’t Believe you wanna leave
Tutti Frutti is good enough for 3 stars on the album all by itself. Wish more artists had his energy.
Cool. Production is very dated.
A classic, full of energy but dated and repetitive
He’s a force, for certain.
gotta hand it to a classic. and Tutti Frutti IS THAT CLASSIC. unfortunately, Ready Teddy, Long Tall Sally, and She Got It are all really similar. I think Long Tall Sally and She Got It stand out more for having actual lyrics. but i cant deny myself a little WOMP BOMPALOOMBOP A WOMP BAM BOOP
Bof
good, not my usual vibe but I enjoyed hearing new music
3.5 stars - fun listen, wish it could have been recorded better but that’s just the time
He came!
The timing is great for this to come up. I'm reading the James Brown autobiography and he talks about the earlier days and his revivalry with Little Richard. It's a fun listen, I bet it was the ultimate party record when it came out. The songs are kinda same samey so I'd prefer to listen to an oldies playlist. I added Rip It Up to my 1001 playlist
Music from another generation. Import era in music, but not music I really like. One extra star for the importance in the history 3/5
Didn't really enjoy this album that much, it just felt kind of repetitive and hard to follow. 5.5/10, Favorite Song: Tutti Frutti
6.8/10 Released in 1957, Here’s Little Richard stands as a pioneering piece for Rock and Roll, influencing the music of Elvis, Bob Dylan, and The Beatles. Little Richard had a flashiness and intensity that penetrated through the music culture at the time, hitting American radiowaves and causing a cultural revolution. It's important to note the influence this record had on breaking down racial barriers, as radio was still very segregated and sanitized. Though an important piece of music history that would overturn the status quo, "Here's Little Richard", at least to my ear, would be outdone by the greats that followed him. While it doesn't undermine the raw energy from the performances that still can be felt from these recordings, nowadays the bluesy tropes littered throughout the record combined with the shortness of each track make this album sound very stylistically samey to other artists that would be influenced from this record. Lyrically, the best tracks stay pretty lighthearted and fun but a lot of the times the repetitive nature of certain songs get quite annoying, like "Jenny, Jenny," and certain raunchy undertones of the album are made more complicated when taking into account Little Richard's history of sexual misconduct around this period of his life. Pre-censorship, the lyrics were notably supposed to be a lot more raunchy, specifically "Tutti Frutti," which was a lot more explicit in nature. While other artists will go on to do more interesting things with Rock music both stylistically and lyrically, this album is a fun journey, it is short enough as to not overstay its welcome, and everybody owes it to themselves to honor it with a listen. Tutti Frutti - 8 True, Fine Mama - 7 Can't Believe You Wanna Leave - 7 Ready Teddy - 7 Baby - 6 Slippin' and Sliding' (Peepin' And Hidin') - 7 Long Tall Sally (The Thing) - 8 Miss Ann - 6 Oh Why? - 7 Rip It Up - 7 Jenny, Jenny - 4 She's Got It - 7
ok groovy (je vais probablement pas réécouter mais groovy)
3.3/5
Had some nice songs but I didn’t really listen to it in the right mood. Def revisit it when I fancy some upbeat jazz and soul music
Понимаю всю значимость и революционность этого альбома, но большинство песен звучат одинаково.
Fun
Iconic and defining, but as a listen in 2026, it's the same song over and over. Not a bad thing, but not an album for listening to sat at a desk. Give me a 1950s dancefloor and now we're talking! (Or swinging!)
Веселый альбом, очень понравился. Много танцевал.
No está mal pero las canciones son todas iguales en ritmo, no hay variedad.
Cool album, even if it’s not something I would listen to every day
Siento que así se sentía una persona esperando su desayuno en un dinner americano en los '50s
From the blast of an opening, you this is some kind of musical whirlwind. Relentless and irresistible. And an under-played track with Slippin & Slidin - sounds like the piano could fall apart any minute. It all seems so simple now, but it must have been a 'thrill' at the time.
Very energetic. Tutti Frutti is a classic and Slippin' And Slidin' and Rip It Up were my favorites. I can imagine all the people in the 19-whenever this released were dancing like hell to this. 6.7/10
it wasn't bad, it just wasn't any different to what i would expect from this sort of music
Its good, but I have no strong feelings about it. Not my kind of music
album list had many cuts of the same track.
Can really hear the inspiration the beatles took. Great vocals, full of energy. Better version of what Elvis was doing at the same time.
There are some good songs in here, especially Tutti Frutti, but I think we've now improved on Rock and Roll so much that Little Richard has been left behind. That's not to say he isn't talented, he clearly is, nor that this shouldn't be on the list, it absolutely should be. It's just aged now. Still super worth it in the end.
40 minutes of the same song
I get it
Enjoyable kitchen music
Gets stars for being a classic but I won’t be listening to it much again
I knew Tutti Fruiti and the rest were alright, but I’m surprised at how samesy they all sounded.
A great showcase of Little Richard's immense talent. The album is well mixed given its age and it holds up to the test of time.
overall it was very nice from the instrument that was very clear and consistent through out the album, the voice is very unique and clear and the screaming was very very powerful I think it was really fun and make my day more fun, but in the end I found out that Idk I think my feelings is bad so I don't really quite found the difference between one and other it was great though the lyrics I think with only times of 2 minutes already have really great storytelling and deliver the message very well. sadly the rating was subjective and I'm not a music reviewer just a normal guy so I don't think it match me that much
A very upbeat album from top to bottom. This is the first album by Little Richard that I have listened to all the way through, and I enjoyed it. The album, however, feels slightly short and is over too quickly. 'Tutti Frutti' is the perfect opening track for this album, showing off Little Richard's vocal range and style from the get-go. The only thing letting this album down is how the songs are a little bit too similar, with some even sounding nearly the same. Favourites: Tutti Frutti True, Fine Mama Oh Why?
Fun short songs, but they kind of start to blend together
The influence on the music of the 60s and 70s is obvious here - a true pioneer of rock and RnB. That being said, I’m quite glad this album clocked in at 28 mins and no longer
I understand that it is an important part of music, but still, I probably won't return to it.
Great
Lots of classic American vibes, but ngl after about 4 songs they start to blend together and the basslines seem to be kinda the same
Enjoyable to listen to on our Sunday morning drive. Given it is from the fifties you have to be impressed with how before his time he was.
I am not a huge fan of Rock n Roll but how can you beat opening up with Tutti Frutti, great songs from an amazing vocalist. I really liked it but it is not something I would buy.
felt jazzyy but with modern stuff. Didnt really listen to the lyrics at all just the vibe. The vibe was strong like a really hard wine or idk beer.
Important context for the history of popular music, but not really holding up on its own.
Fun relic of rock, and a really interesting voice, but not something I will put on again in full.
alright
Did this guy invent the concept where songs that are indistinguishable from each other? It's not bad, but also nothing stands out.
Canta muy bonito, pero en un momento sentí que las canciones se parecían mucho entre sí o que se repetían siempre los mismos recursos.
that perfect oldies music from old movies. Really i can see what a breakthrough that must have been, so much that it laid the path for countless genres to come. And maybe so good that the boomers decided at some point no one deserves these breakthroughs anymore
gran album la verdad, 100% me dan ganas de vivir en esa epoca y bailar esto
Woooooo!
Solid!
I understand why it’s famous but I tried to listen while STUDYING and it genuinely drove me off the edge.
Lovely afternoon on your playmat listening to this...fun for a baby! Lots of toe-tapping and belly poking :-) Obviously an important one for music history...three for me, four for you!
This era of rock and roll isn't really my thing but Little Richard really is miles better than Elvis. Far better singer, so much more life and energy. Maybe he can't croon as well as the king and that's fine by me. You've basically heard everything you need to a couple of songs in, it's more a general sound to dance to than each song providing something different. But it's authentic and fun and a perfectly acceptable listen.
He really cracks on - gallops along. Tutti Frutti is the best of the bunch. Entertaining. Hovering between a 3 and 4 - nothing inherently wrong, nice and rapid, good voice, but a few tracks blurred together (Baby, Slippin' And Slidin', any of the ones starting with a growl). I appreciated ending with She's Got It - now reminds me a bit of the Gilette Venus advertisement.
They don't make em like this anymore! I would say this isn't really my thing, but I enjoyed it. Sure it was very influential. Recognised a fair amount of it too. 3.5
Hey, there he is!
Finally gave it a listen; in all honesty this record is a time capsule. It's a great piece of music history and you can here the influence it had on many artist through the years. I loved the brass solos and the high energy of the majority of the songs, but it starts to run together after the first few songs. This one is tough to rate so if we're rate it based on the test of time for me it's a low 6, but for when it was released a solid 8.
Meh
It's so surprising how well this stands up against time while so clearly being from another era.
Phew 28 minutes is long enough, good but there is only so much of it I can take
i do like the music of early rock and roll, but as for a full album listen, everything on "Here's Little Richard" sounded the same. lots of "wooooo"
Tutti Fruitti was AWESOME, then the rest kinda sounded the same and nothing super spectacular. It kept me entertained. I was starting to grow a little tired of the sax, wouldn't have minded some other instruments thrown in there. Super good 50s rock.
I don’t know why, but I really like this old stripped down music that’s a basic simple recording.
I've been quite interested in getting into more 50s and 60s music and what a better place to start than with Little Richard's Here's Little Richard from 1957. Obviously there is a lot about this project that is very much a staple of its' time and will arguably make it not fair as well as other music made today, but I still feel this project is a very respectable and charming as Little Richard truly has a touching yet commanding voice for the entire duration of this 27 minute album. This project is groovy and I can totally get how people would be getting lost in a dance to songs like this, they just give off such an infectious feeling while also feeling a bit rebellious. Again the influence is very strong with this project and I can totally see how Richard's defining personality not only shaped other acts not just in Rock and Roll but in general, while also paving a way for many other black artists to rise to the peak of popularity in the coming years. This is not that bad for a debut in the late 50s, it still is very enjoyable today and stands as a time capsule of what once was in terms of music and culture. Makes me wish people were able to show off true artistry like this today even with all the shortcuts and accessible available today. Nuff said.
This is a 3.5 for me. Very entertaining but every song was up up up. To be fair, this is early rock and roll so that makes sense but I just wasn’t ready for all the upbeat rhythm and woos. Good album for a Friday. I feel like his voice must have hurt after this though.
While I wouldn't say this was dull, it did feel a bit like listening to Tutti Frutti several times over. Maybe that's just 12-bar blues. Some of the saxophone parts were a lot of fun. I don't know if I would've kept listening to a longer album, so glad it ended when it did.
Ready Teady
Not bad solid set of songs
Incredibly powerful voice. The songs are fairly repetitive especially with the lyrics which is fine for the length of the songs but drags out a bit over the album. To it's credit I still have all the words in my head the next day. You can see why this was like the medieval peasants eating spicy doritos for people in the 1950s.
I like this stuff for casual listening, it gets an old album buff becuase if we didnt have this we wouldnt have like half the music we have now.
nicht schlecht, aber hat mich nicht abgeholt
It's good but it gets REAL repetitive after a while. Still though, for his first record and how revolutionary it was I'm genuinely impressed.
7/10 not my kind of stuff but very nice overall
For some reason I always confuse Little Richard and Boy George.
Classic sound. Like all of this except 'Jenny, Jenny'. I wish I had talked to my dad about music more. He hated what I listened to, but I always like his taste and wish I had tried to connect more. Remember when Little Richard was big in the 90s for some reason? He was on Full House, why? That was weird.
Lots of fun. A very important voice in rock n roll. But when will we get some Korn? Deftones?
pas spécialement mon style
Sympathique mais je ne pense pas réécouter
Hard to unhear all the cliches even though I'm sure he invented them. Reminds me how much of this era of music is truly just fad and hit chasing. Hard to call it art but LR is electric.
Estuvo okay, sentí que muchas canciones suenan igual. Pero es entendible por la época.
Some good music but a whole album of his somewhat grating voice is too much for me.
Este hombre tenía demasiada energía xd. Pero sin duda alguna una voz increíble.
Liked the rythm and most of the songs, although they sounded much alike but i wasn’t paying that much attention. Definitely will continue listening to these.
Things that stand the test of time like Tutti Frutti and Long Tall Sally are perennial as well as influential. Sadly the rest of the album is a bit same-y to me and nothing really stands out. It's fun, but also, maybe now, a little forgettable besides the stand out tracks.
Swing it magistern
Considering any of these rock'n'roll records as albums is akin to approaching the short cinema works of Méliés, Guy, and the Lumiere Brothers as films. Those are proto-films at best and these records are proto-albums - the idea of the album is only coming into being, but it is not yet an artistic form, not something that artists set out to produce. It is just something that record companies are starting to put out. In cinema, Gunning refers to this period of proto-films as the "cinema of attractions," defined by displaying spectacles and shocking visuals to spectators rather than telling stories. The "cinema of attractions" emphasized the magical, immediate impact of moving images over narrative, drawing parallels to fairground attractions and direct exhibition. Early rock'n'roll does much the same. There is little narrative to any of the simple I-IV-V tunes, neither musically nor lyrically. There is only the chaotic exuberance of a sound so aggressive it should not be possible to capture it on record. And yet, here it is. Half an hour of it. Each song sounding almost exactly alike, but sounding like nothing else anyone had heard. Gunning argued that films didn't just trick audiences into thinking they were real; rather, they created a tension between what viewers knew (it's a projection) and what they felt (the image rushing at them), resulting in "an aesthetic of astonishment." And what rock'n'roll singer is more astonishing than Little Richard, the flamboyant, southern, sex preacher? Effeminate, yet sonically aggressive. Soft, and yet he goes hard. What is he even singing about? You know that he's saying Ms. Molly likes to "bawl," because he couldn't possibly being say that she likes to "ball." But it feels like that's what he's saying. That is the astonishment. The best songs are built of little moments of attraction like this, razzle dazzle spectacle. But there is nothing more than that. No cohesion. No greater, cumulative effect. To hear one of them is as satisfying as to hear all of them. But why wouldn't it be so? There was not yet any higher standard - if it is a higher stanard - there were no rules or expectations. It is unfair, then to rate any of these rock'n'roll albums. You might as well critique the ability of homo habilis to walk upright. However, by the standard of attractions, as showmen go, there's not many better than Little Richard. More astonishing than Elvis. More astonishing than Chuck Berry. A proto-Ziggy Stardust, as Bowie himself admitted. 2.5 I have nothing much to say about Here’s Little Richard. Several of these songs are absolutely iconic and all of them are one-dimensional. I mean no great criticism by that - we should all be grateful that he, among a few notable others, took the trouble to forge that first dimension. Richard’s voice still has an impressive, even slightly alarming edge. 2.5/5
Good fun but a lot of the same style of song.
Meh
Classic, innovative, and it actually belongs on this list for it's historical significance. That said, once you here one song, you've heard most of them. It's fun, for a bit. 3.33
bogged down by the album format of the time, but absolutely electric in its best moments. deserves to be one of the 1001? obviously yes
3.5
It holds up quite well for being one of the first rock albums ever. The guy has chops and the band plays like their life depends on it. The Beatles and Elvis both ripped him off.
everyone wants to be little richard
All good, not exactly what I want listen to for an entire album
A wop bop a lu wop a wop bam boom
A clearly incredibly important album, if I rated it from that perspective it’d be a clear 5 for legacy and influence. From a modern perspective and for my personal tastes, it keeps to a very narrow scope. It excels with blues bars and that early rock n roll structure, but that’s all there is. The tracks sort of blur together in my mind and all sound alike. Thankfully, it doesn’t outstay it’s welcome at a swift 30ish minutes though!
not bad
Obviously a very influential musician who helped to shape rock music, but rating this purely on how much I enjoy listening to it right now in 2026 means this gets a 3 from me. A pretty decent listen but music has come a long way and there are plenty of other things I'd prefer to listen to.
Fantastic! Upbeat and fun!
sweet
Lots of fun!
Classic but voice is super grating
Can imagine this being the shit at the time, I usually struggle with anything further back than late 60’s but I enjoyed this album, the songs were short and punchy enough to have me tapping my toes happily. For me it’s solid for older generations I expect it’s seminal. 3.4
Music like this feels wrong to rate in 2026. Its so removed from our current sounds and just feels like a flash in the pan these days. No song specifically stood out to me as special but they were fun. A little samey to me but never outwore its welcome.
Okay - repetitive in that 1950s rockabilly way
6.5 / 10
Very cool. A little bit repetitive but very catchy!
Enjoyable but repetitive.
Iconic and trailblazing. The album is great but i dont want to own it. Solid three stars
Hard to really criticize like the first rock album ever. It’s not very interesting but it doesn’t have decades of rock to pull from so who can blame it. Production is terrible, but again it’s in its infancy. Will never come back to this but a good history lesson.
obviously such a very sweet, fun album. i think im just too depressed to enjoy it fully right now.
It’s little Richard. Very much of the same over and over. But important for history. 5/10
Jake : didn't listen Greg: 6.9 Not something I would listen to normally but it was very fun and made me appreciate the roots of the music I currently listen to. Annie: Didn't listen
Fun album and interesting to hear this really early stuff. But not enough going on for me to come back to it again.
Can’t imagine actively choosing to put this on but enjoyed it when it was. Worthy inclusion on the ‘must hear’ list for the influence on The Beatles alone.
funnnn
Good ol' fashioned high tempo music. I see why he was a phenom, but nothing really stood out.
Loud and All Out. Although I think I may be fine if I never listen to Tutti Frutti or its intro ever again, I get Little Richard is foundational but he was never as easy to listen to as Fats Domino or Chuck Berry or Elvis. He really goes all out on these songs almost sounding out of breath by the end.
suppose if you were there at the time this would blow your mind. fun and classic songs on here but to listen to the album front to back is very intense, i feel like i have a high tolerance for jazz and blues but this tested me
This is like those pictures NASA wants to show aliens in order to tell them about humanity. So they'd let them hear this album if humanity was blues (maybe it is.) That's how generic this feels in my ears (just the most basic blues scales and melodies to exist.) Not in a bad or good way (it's usually a sign for great influence!) - I just feel like I'd (obviously) appreciate it way more if I listened to it in 1957, not 2026.
That was fun wee time.
First time listening to a full album from Little Richard but you can tell why he was so influential. Crazy energy on all songs 3/5
This is like listening to Fats Domino but instead of Fats’s jolly demeanor you get Little Richard yelling at you for a half an hour. Still pretty fun tho
22/02/2026 1. tutti frutti - vaguely know this from velvet goldmine.... love the instrumental. 2. true, fine mama - very bluesy. saxaphone is great! *3. can't believe you wanna leave - the vocals in this are immediately great!! 4. ready teddy - great! bring back saxaphones in rock music.... 5. baby - love the piano.... *6. slippin and slidin - saxaphone is phenomenal!!!! <3333 7. long tall sally (the thing) - already like this one :) *8. miss ann - love it!!!!! great ending! 9. oh why? - nice! 10. rip it up - nothing more to say! great early rocknroll songs :) *11. jenny jenny - saw a few reviews not liking this one, but realllly loving the energy! 12. she's got it - :) really liked it, but felt a bit repetitive at times and feels a bit dated now, but the energy is still there! lacks that something to push it into four territory, but still enjoyed it… would give a 3.5 if there were half stars.
Up tempo rock n'roll from Little Richard which a memorable selection of tunes.
Clearly a formative album and the basis of a lot of music which came afterwards. Just not something I would listen to every day but appreciate it’s importance.
Upbeat and fun.
This album cover really gives me all the relevant info. It's like a nice promo poster. I approve. Mostly this sounds like oldies, in terms of the songs but also the sound quality. It's enjoyable but not something I would listen to on its own. I appreciate that all the songs are so short and energetic. They're also quite similar to each other, though. Apparently, 'Ready Teddy' is also sang (sung?) by the Prisencolinensinainciusol guy! Highlight: 'Slippin' and Slidin''
Hot damn! I had no idea what I was up to listening, album started with a classic. Listening through the album I was starting to get overload of rock 'n roll though and I was waiting for the end. Nothing necessarily wrong with the music but the music style in itself was in this case too repetitive and was ready for it to end.
Clearly an incredible singer, really powerful voice with a lot of expression, but the vocal style isn't really for me - bit too shouty, and I found the falsetto tics slightly irritating. The album is quite samey (the instrumentation doesn't really seem to change much besides the occasional addition of a saxophone), but it's short, and there's at least a bit of variety in terms of tempo and mood across the tracks. The influence on rock'n'roll is obvious, this was clearly an important album in musical history. It's all funky, upbeat blues. Hard not to enjoy it. I think if I were born 30 years earlier I'd have listened to this on repeat.
Little Richard is a very energetic character. Sometimes it’s good, but after a while it feels like a little too much. Best songs: Long Tall Sally (The Thing) and Tutti Frutti
Little Richard – Here's Little Richard (1957) On Day 53, Little Richard provided a much-needed energy boost, but the album as a whole sits at a 3/5. While I admire the massive influence he had on everyone who came after him, the record itself feels just decent compared to other blues-rock projects from the same era. The vocals and the piano-pounding momentum are great for a few tracks, but it doesn't quite have the depth or replay value of a true 4 or 5-star favorite. It’s a solid piece of history, but not one I’ll be reaching for often.
Gets repetitive - every song is kinda just a slightly different version of “tutti fruity”. But these foundations of rock and roll albums are so fun and so important. It’s from 1957 for christs sake, the “album” as we know it wasn’t even a thing.
This album is just a lot of fun, don't think it will stay with me for ages but definitely happy to listen to multiple times
rock 'n roll roots
Album rock n roll carino, mi è piaciuto di più elvis oerò
3/5 Appreciated this, see it is historically important but too old now for me to listen to day to day
A maverick in his time!
Good for the hits "Tutti Frutti" and "Long Tall Sally", but this sound gets old quick. It is important to note that this would be ground-breaking in 1957, so I have no reason to be too hard on this album. 2.5 rounded to 3
Old school rock n roll a bit repetitive though
I think that this is standard fare for a 1950s album. Obviously, Tutti Frutti and Long Tall Sally were highlights, but the rest was unfortunately filler that resembled most album at the time. I would give this a 3.5, but we will round this to 3.
Much prefer this over Elvis
Das Rock. Rod stewards band
It was ok
Lot of fun. Obviously foundational to rock.
Быстро надоедает
I liked this more than I thought I would! These are songs from yester-year but they have a beat and are fun. I’d give it a 3.5 if I could but I’ll give it a 3.
Wasn’t in the mood, its good tho
6.5/10 Definitely not for me but it doesn't overstay it's welcome at least
was pretty good
lowkey wanna remove my apron and dance in my husband's 60s kitchen that his mother designed (in a good way)
I trully believe that you have to learn to like this type of 50s music. Every song sound so similar but i guess its ok?! Gotta go with a boring answer like 3/5 Yes, ofcourse every sucker recording music owes his skill to this richard guy because obviously.
An obvious classic filled with lots of tracks I've heard a million times before. Then again, all of Little Richard's songs sound the same so it's hard to say for sure. Can't deny its influence on so many things that came after it, but as a collection of songs themselves not my favorite.
this reminds me so much of working at a 50s themed ice cream shop in high school
rafraîchissant
Du bon son comle on en fait plu
C'est très fort et fondateur de tout le genre, mais avec le temps ça a tendance à se répéter un peu. En plus c'était plus ou moins un pedo
Kinda catchy not for me though
Maybe the best opening to an album I’ve heard in my life.
Obviously Tutti Frutti is an all-timer. The rest of the album is good but feels a bit same-y after awhile - maybe to be expected for the time period. I also think this isn't as much an album as just a collection of songs that the record company probably put together. Little Richard's wailing vocals just cannot be denied though. Best song - Tutti Frutti Notable Mentions - Jenny Jenny, Baby (both for their great vocal performances)
3.5
didn't fully listen to it but i liked one or two songs. not my usual vibe but not bad.
Solidisimo 3. Ba la babulula Ba la bambum Canciones favorita: tutti fruti obviamente
Tutti Frutti -> 6/10 True, Fine Mama -> 6.2/10 I Can't Believe You Wanna Leave -> 5/10 Ready Teddy -> 7/10 Baby -> 4/10 Slippin and Slidin -> 6.5/10 Long Tall Sally -> 4/10 Miss Ann -> 5/10 Oh Why? ->4/10 Rip It Up -> 4/10 Jenny Jenny ->4/10 She Got It ->4/10
wish I was dancing!. Half of the songs really could have had the same title
Oldschool og cute, men ikke noget, jeg ville sætte på ellers. Sangene minder meget om hinanden.
If you could cram a sock hop into one record… every song is basically the same and somehow it works. Pretty much. It ages like it belongs in a museum.
I’ve always loved Little Richard’s energy, and that is still the best part of this album. His vocals are wild and completely fearless. You can hear how much fun he was having, and that spirit still comes through. That said, almost seventy years later, a lot of these songs sound pretty dated. Still, there is no denying the influence he had on rock music once it really exploded in the 60s.
very 50s
Unsophisticated rock and roll piano and bass rifts. Instantly recognisable. When the powerful vocals take a breath, the sax steps in to keep the energy flowing. Groundbreaking.
Strong 3
Ihan kivaa svengaavaa ja energistä musiikkia. Tulee mieleen jokin tanssityyli, jonka taustalle tämän tyylinen musiikki sopii.
Fav track- Can’t Believe You Wanna Leave Least fav track- Miss Ann Fav lyric-“My life, my heart, my love, Is in your hands” Overall rating-6/10 Notes- different from what i usually listen to, brings a different essence with it
Cant complain, men ikke musikk æ like å hør på
Sådär kanske, tror jag fattar men det är inte min mood just nu.
classic
I get this, and why it would be so magnetic live. It does feel like most of the songs are modeled after Tutti Frutti in melody and pacing, and maybe that’s the point. Enjoyed the second half of the album more than the first. Fav track: Tutti Frutti, Least Fav: True, Fine Mama
Look, it's nice. The songs are all very similar, and they were amazingly groundbreaking and influential at the time, but now I think I only need one or two songs.
upbeat, fun, shout-singing, good instruments
There's no question that Little Richard deserves to be on this list. If it wasn't for him and his influence, a very substantial chunk of the albums on here would sound very different. As an album worth listening to, as an album that is significant, absolutely five stars. With that said, even at a little under half an hour, this album felt long to me because it's so repetitive. The music is largely twelve bar blues, enthusiastically played, but the real star here is Little Richard and his wild enthusiasm. It's just that once you've heard the album opener Tutti Frutti, you've kind of already heard how the rest of it is going to go, barring a couple of slower numbers. I once heard someone (who didn't know what they were talking about) say that there was nothing musically interesting in the development of rock music. Which, beyond being wrong, also underestimates how important the cultural aspect of rock music is. And I think Little Richard exemplifies this: the music itself isn't that special, but it's his delivery, his energy, his charisma that turns this into something else.
A couple of classic formulas over and over again. Joyful listen. There are more girls in this album than there is the fifth mambo.
Reminds me of Mafia 3
I love this era of music so much. Especially rock n roll so this is such a solid album.
has potential bc i like one of their most popular songs. j knew one song and liked two. started off good bc i like the upbeat sound. it sounded different than what i normally listen to so it was cool but then it got really repetitive. he has a really cool voice though.
Repetitive.Really fun though.
What a good vibe. I can’t help but dance to this.
Repetitive but good voice
Clássico, porém um pouco repetitivo
Little Richard is not my vibe ale strasznie to szanuję tak kulturowo
i’ve never sat down and listened to music like this with the 12 bar blues and everything before but it was really interesting!!! at the end some of the songs kind of blurred into each other but i enjoyed the experience of listening to something really foundational and inspirational
not my type of album
enjoy
Fine album. Once you’ve heard one song you’ve heard them all though.
7/10 - не слушал
Here's Little Richard is one of the '50s Rock N Roll albums that has aged the best. Even though Rock has changed so much since this came out, Little Richard's energy keeps the album feeling fresh and essential. His hammered piano and gritty scream really sell these songs that I probably wouldn't have enjoyed as much otherwise. And the band he's assembled keep up the whole way. Even if I don't love every song here, I'm at least into the performances across the entire album. And speaking of the songs; a lot of them are classics, and several of them have earned it. And the brief 28 minute runtime keeps things brisk and lean. I enjoyed this more than I thought.
Great vocals not my style
I've heard a few of these songs before, and the rest of the album doesn't really provide anything different from the well known tracks. Whilst recognising the importance and influence of Little Richard, I personally don't need to revisit. Heard before ❌️ Listened this time ✅️ Revisit ❌️ ★★★☆☆ (5/10) Total reviewed : 186 Already owned : 43 Purchased : 7 To buy list : 5 Nope : 131
Some wonderful and iconic songs, but the album ultimately suffers from a lack of variety.
Call this a high 3. A little more variety would have made it a 4.
Fun music. Lots of energy. My least favorite was Jenny Jenny, I felt like those were the only words in the song
Good dancing rock and roll. Very repetitive lyrics. A lot of the songs sound concerningly similar to other hits I've heard before from other artists before. 2.9 outta 5
Don’t really like old school music like that
Sounds like the eruption and shock of the new, the explosion that was rock n roll - fast frenetic urgent teen, powerful stuff, not subtle.
Really enjoyed this album, can’t say this is my go to music, but did like listening to each song.
Isn't particularly remarkable.
A lot of the songs sounded pretty similar but overall enjoyed it.
cool kinda jazzy blues vibes. like it but don't love it 7/10
Damn, bro really hits the big booty bitches "Wooooo!"
*Great rock and roll history, but a little too similar track by track to be truly compelling.
It's Little Richard. He's a true American icon and one of the progenitors of rock and roll. His image directly shaped how countless superstars portrayed themselves. His sound was groundbreaking and echoes today. As for this album? With works from 7 decades ago, like this one, it's a bit difficult to judge. How can I fairly compare this with albums from a different century, whose creators can stand on the shoulders of giants like Richard? I'm just going to rank it using my established methodology. Yes, the album is largely repetitive to a modern ear, and yes, the genre evolved past the 1950s. Regardless, "Tutti Frutti" is an enduring classic, and I particularly enjoyed "Baby," "Can't Believe You Wanna Leave," and "Oh Why?" Richard's vocals are remarkably strong. The brass can really get you moving as well.
I appreciate this album, but it just wasn’t for me. The songs are very dated of course, but every song sounded pretty much the same.
Liked it, though it’s dated squarely to its time. Some of the songs were too similar that it all blurred together, great vibe for an “era party” though.
All sounds the same
Waiting for the little /whoo/ after every sentence, and was never disappointed.
Good tunes. Feels a little dated and repetitive at times maybe but still fine.
Kind of the same songs on and on, it's good though, but plain after the 2nd or 3rd song
Pioneer album, but songs to sound very similar
A revolutionary compilation of early Rock and Roll staples. Suffers a bit from overly repetitive themes, but what from the 50s doesn’t? Tutti Frutti, Slippin and Slidin, Rip it Up and Long Sally are all classics. Essential listening although not something that reaches the heights of what was to follow in pop music history.
doing a little jig rn. tutti frutti a classic
If you like long tall Sally and tutti frutti and want to listen to them on repeat, this album is for you
Its ok, pretty dated now but hardly a surprise.
Fun to listen to on the background
3.7/5 inspired the beatles and elvis with some all time classics on here
1960's bright red and white colored american diner on the side of the road next to an outdoor cinema with a parking lot type shit
Can't lie, I was boppin
not my favorite but i kept hearing elvis’s voice when little richard was singing
classic album the basis to all good rock and roll little richard, muddy waters, chuck berry.
Here's my Drew Review of this album wamp-a-la-do-da wamp-bam-boom. Musical revolution in the 50s apparently means finding a word and a name that goes with it and then slapping it on a not a fairly long song and then adding a bunch of random rhyming syllables at the end. Also, a piano in the background. Mercifully short and influence on the decades to come earn Little Brittle Lizard Richard more star-a-blam-dlam do-dam-then-deserved.
Long Tall Sally is my favourite song of this album
Not a bad album, but nothing I'd listen to frequently.
It's alright, held back a little bit by the song selection maybe. Fun to do the "hoOoO!"s with him though. This is the third album here to feature "Tutti Frutti" and I think I might be trapped in a cycle where I start looking at the day's album on Wikipedia, learn of the sexually explicit original lyrics of "Tutti Frutti," banish that information from my mind, and then rediscover it all again when "Tutti Frutti" inevitably comes back around.
I couldnt really get into this one, but its definitely a solid album. couple of classic, evergreen tracks, and you can feel that it's in the DNA of a lot of what came after in american music. Sounds a little samey now tho
Surprisingly ok, but wouldn't normally listen to this.
Catchy, icon of an era
Fun, but extremely repetitive
I will forever associate Tutti Frutti with Brave Little Toaster. So that song is going to live in my head forever with as much as I watched that movie as a kid. I know I listened to other songs of his growing up thanks to my parents, but I honestly couldn't tell you any of them. But listening to the rest of them now and there are a few other good ones, but there's also some that sound reaaaallly similar and sound almost like the same song with just one slight change. Like how similar Ready Teddy and Tutti Frutti sound.
The Godfather of the formulaic rock n roll song. At least Fats had some characteristics of actually trying to write a different song. But, its great music I'm not a hater, its just every little richard song sounds like the last one. We don't get much of modern rock music without little Richard and for that I'll give his contribution to the genre 4 stars. But in my hear of hearts the 50s rock n roll genre has so much more to offer.
3 1/2 Stars: These bops are catchy as hell. That's undeniable. The record starts to sound samey after a while, but with tracks at 3-minutes and under it's no issue to get through the album.
You can feel the energy and originality but you don't need masses of it at a time !
A big influence on the early work of The Beatles, and all the songs here are good. The band are especially tight, and Richard’s vocals have many imitators and no equals. In the end though it was just kinda fine.
I’m not a huge fan of this early era of rock n’ roll and prefer Chick Berry in any case, but this has an incomparable manic energy that’s pretty impressive.
rock n rool music, my grandpa 20s
Vraiment pas mauvais ! De la musique très entrainante ! C’est pas tout à fait pour moi, mais c’est un bon album qui s’écoute bien !
I really appreciate what Little Richard accomplished and how influential he was on popular music. We wouldn't have had Elvis' stage presence or the Beatles without him. Unfortunately, what once sounded trailblazing sounds dated to modern ears. This album is undoubtedly important, and something one *should* listen to before they die, but it isn't something I'd repeatedly put on.
Important, raw, fun party music. Certainly an interesting character the dealt with a lot to leave and undeniable impression on the world. I probably wouldn't listen to the album again, but I fully respect it.
little richard is here, and he makes me feel uncomfortable
Upbeat, but they all sound the same four songs in.
68/100. Here's Little Richard is an iconic record that helped shape rock & roll. Like many albums from this era, the sound can feel somewhat monotone at times, and this record partly falls into that category. However, what makes it stand out is Little Richard’s powerful and energetic vocals, which bring an undeniable charm and excitement to the music. The lyrics are fairly basic, sticking to common themes of love and fun, but there are moments where the album ventures into more political or socially aware territory, which I found more interesting. While it may not be the most dynamic record, its influence and Little Richard’s vocal presence make it a key part of rock & roll history.
Little Richard is here … boo wop!
Before I forget: very similar to Jerry Lee lewis (except I’m of the understanding Jerry Lee is rly just a copycat of little Richard) but unfortunately this style of music doesn’t translate as well when it’s not live. Insane voice though. And an enjoyable enough listen!
It was fine. It was good for its genre. The songs were short which was nice.
This is good! Very enjoyable. All the songs start to blend together, but it is solid. There isn't a bad song here. Actual rating...3.5 Liked Songs: "Tutti Frutti" , "True, Fine Mama" , "Can't Believe You Wanna Leave" , "Ready Teddy" , "Slippin' And Sliddin' (Peepin' And Hidin')", "Long Tall Sally (The Thing)"
Cool historical period. If you close your eyes you can hear him taking the swing of the 40s and turning it into rock and roll
Unlike other well known artists from the same period, most of these songs were written by or with Richards himself, while others just published now called "cover" versions. On the other hand, music and lyrics were pretty basic and formulaeistic. The outstanding things were the performance by the singer and the band. To sum this up: the music is not the reason this should be included in such a list, but the performance of the artist. And he delivers.
Fun but repetitive
Disco esencial del rock & roll. 3/5
