Top-notch early rock

oh yeahhhhhhhhhhhhhhh

dg reference!?!?! little richard by death grips is like their worst song fuck that song. this album is the opposite its good. his energy is genuinely one of kind.

Fun sound, although with so many tracks it began to feel redundant. Definitely got my head nodding and toes tapping.

An original! Weird stalker songs, but other excellent

• 4/5 - 2.5 for the music, 1.5 for its place in history and influence on the genre • Tutti Frutti and Long Tall Sally are deservedly loved. The innovations of tempo, arrangement, and vocals are apparent and created a new template for rock and roll to follow. • Unfortunately, the rest of the songs on the album follow that template as well. It's monotonous and detracts from the key singles.

Very good

I’m not sure you can listen to Little Richard and be sad. It’s just the epitome of joy. Great album. Lots of memories of my mom playing these songs when I was a kid.

Fun album. I used to have it on vinyl, but now it’s all in the cloud. Legend.

Lots of familiar songs, upbeat, good vocals. Very blues/early rock and roll. Can definitely hear what the Beatles were influenced by.

Move over Elvis, Little Richard is the true king of rock n roll 3.5

These are the kind of records I expect to get from this project. Classic in every sense of the word. An undoubtedly important and influential piece of music. Without Little Richard’s success I don’t think most of the rest of the list would even exist. However, this seems like a "you had to be there" kind of thing. Seeing him perform during that era was probably insane. It's definitely an album that doesn’t fully capture that live concert experience. 4.5⭐️

Pretty good blues

His voice is screaming front and centre. The band is a receptacle for that man's squeal. When the height of rock and roll was head to at a diner with a blond hair lass and order a vanilla milkshake. Afterwards go to bed at 9pm in your pyjamas...

I know all about Little Richard’s role in birthing rock n’ roll, but I was still surprised by how much I enjoyed the entire album - pure energy and fun. Also intrigued by the androgyny of some of the vocals.

All I could find on Amazon was a "Deluxe Edition" that went well beyond the original 12 tracks. I enjoyed this morning's selection, somebody my age heard all of this stuff along the way, either by Little Richard or covered by others. Thanks!

Good music, great energy, all around a classic.

Really good! This kind of upbeat early rock is such a good vibe, I love it. That said, the album does seem to be a little one-note the way that all the songs are kinda about the same three things (rock and roll, dancing, and women). The Vibe: That feeling you get when you are singing along to an upbeat song in your car and you are totally hitting every single note

Classic, old school rock n roll

This is a copy/paste from another reviewer because I couldn't state it any better than they did: "The 'patient-zero' for 99% of this list. Modern music owes everything to Little Richard's innovation. Sure, he was riding a wave of change in the 1950's, but the bands that influence the bands that are listened to now were influenced by Little Richard." The only thing that bugged me is that you can only do so much with the basic blues chords/key progression before it sounds repetitive.

Tutti Frutti Ready Teddy Slippin' and Slidin' Long Tall Sally Rip It Up Jenny, Jenny

Excellent rock and roll!

It must've been a very different experience listening to this in 1957, and it has lost some of its power since it served as inspiration for the sound of rock'n'roll bands after this, but the energy is still there and most of the songs are fun and short, so the 12-bar blues structure doesn't overstay its welcome. Favorite songs: Tutti Frutti, Ready Teddy, Slipping And Sliding, Long Tall Sally, Rip It Up Would I listen to it again? Yeah I can see myself doing that in the future. 8/10

First time listen. Highlights: can’t believe you wanna leave

Classic.

Classic.

As if by magic it makes you want to move. Over 6 decades later it still has an energy that's undeniable. A number of the artists that I have given 5 stars to give some form of credit to Little Richard. Beatles, Led Zeppelin, AC/DC, David Bowie. The production is what it is, but I enjoy the music

Really enjoy the oldies

Great album, loved it!

Thank you so much Little Richard. You were just the shot of adrenaline I needed after a week of rain and melancholia. Long Tall Sally is just great, and all I could picture was Dutch and Dillon in a helicopter on their way to the jungle. Little Richard was a sexual tyrannosaurus. I wish I knew where he got his energy.

lekker oud, swingend. lekker albumpje hoor:)

Dig the old school vibes

I wish I had 25% of the energy Little Richard's music had.

Always been a Little Richard fan. A lot of the songs sound the same but all are equally raw and punchy - thematically sound for the early days of Rock N Roll. Favorite song: Rip It Up (duh) Least favorite: True, Fine Mama Knew before? Yes

Okay, tutti frutti saves the day. The rest of the album is fun, but not as spectacular or noteworthy, really. Very old, but almost gold.

omg freumi hert tutti frutti RIESIG mier hend das früehner so hüfig glost vom JIVE BUNNY REMIX true fine momma zeigter nomal sini stimm hahaha sini stimm überstürt fast, ich liebs so unglaublich so de gegesatz vode gmüetliche musig undem LITTEL RICHAAAAOOOAAAARDDD ready teddy chli ähnlich wie tutti frutti naja baby wieder chli ruhiger, hets gad brucht ok jaa s isch chli heavy tönt alles sehr ähnlich hii und daa isch d pace chli andersch aber jo er liebt wenn sini stimm überschlaht ABER ich find alles au extrem guet vo dem her

Le pondré un 4 porque es Little Richard. Pero me aburrió.

Some stone cold rock and roll classics on this album. God knows how many 60s icons this inspired but music history would have been different without it for sure.

Iconic from the sounds to the title and the cover.

Man had more soul than plastic surgery

Short and sweet. A generous 4.

Peak Little Richard is as good as it gets

Really good early rock ‘n’ roll by one of the best. Great songs, great energy, great album.

Great Little Richard album. A fun time.

Fave: ready teddy

Yeah, it’s all kinda one song, but it’s a fun and very important song that basically invented rock n roll as me know it! So stars for history!

This is the real rock 'n' roll

Wop bop a loo mop alop bom bom! This was fun, even if every song sounded so so so similar. But Little Richard is legendary in the development of rock music, so I feel like I can't give this any lower than a 4.

Fun! Short! The only issue is that I was slammed at work so I found this much energy infuriating but that's not Little Richard's fault

That's not my taste in musik.. But good old Rock'n'Roll-Songs

Lil’ Rich rocks

Cool record. I have an amazing reissue of this on vinyl

What we have here is a wild, energetic ride from start to finish. Little Richard's signature screams, piano-pounding, and outrageous stage presence are on fill display. Hits like "Tutti Frutti" and "Long Tall Sally" are classics for a rason.

OK - here t'is. No politics or political correctness anywhere at all here. I like Little Richard. The guy had more energy than so many other artists of his era - and to perform in such a (I really hate using this word) in such a flamboyant manner, you know the dude had to have a solid idea of what he was going to do musically and what he wanted to accomplish. He did his thing and he did it in exactly the way he wanted to do it. You've got TO respect someone like that. So aside from being a gay black man during that time period, you've also got to respect the fact that he did rock and roll. Tutti Fruitti, Ready Teddy, Slippin' and Slidin', Long Tall Sally, Rip It Up. 12 songs on one LP released 03-04-57, and five of the 12 were hits.

Banger. Powerful and energetic!

8/10 Solid 8, even with +. All the songs are dancing songs. I imagine myself being at a bar, having some drinks and the time of my life. The Track "Oh why" caught my attention, i liked the story.

This record is actively punk as fuck

Fun album, sounds like the 60s!

Awesome stuff - TUTTI FRUTTI

That piano...

50s rock is fun!

Great piano playing and strong vocals.. a nice slice of the 50's

Definitely up there for the genre/this type of jazz. Probably won’t be a personal go-to but can still appreciate it as good music

it's very tutti frutti

With influences extending from the Beatles, to CCR, to Zep, the Stones, and Prince, and many more one cannot deny the significance of this splash on the timeline of history. Love the passion and energy of the vocals and keys; and the use of the sax throughout. Fave track is probably “She’s got it”. I’ll stop just short of a full five stars but it’s mighty close. 4.5/5

Just letting it rip about a half a century before the extremely forgiving recording technology of today, this little man demonstrated that he was just born to fucking sing. And if your ivories needed tickling? He’d oblige. With his feet, if you’re into that. Are these songs all sorta the same? Yea so what. If you’re handing out any points for being “influential”, best not skimp here.

Some points on this album felt like Little Richard was yelling from inside my skull...in a good way. 4/5

Can’t say much more than hasn’t already been said about little Richard, the consensus top guest appearance on full house (suck it, Mike love). Rock music wouldn’t be the same without this man, and the songs on this album in particular (even if many were released years prior), so this gets a 4/5 just from that perspective. I’ll bump it .5 for the amount of hair lost and blood pressure boosted from angry white dads that couldn’t deal. If I had to make any complaint it’s that this is still generally a singles-heavy era, even if it’s in those waning years. This is largely a collection of those as opposed to a cohesive album. And while “Here’s…” made the cut, many other blues, swing jazz and spiritual/gospel artists that inspired him aren’t going to make this list because their compilations weren’t put together until years later by yazoo, arhoolie etc. in the 60s and 70s. Not so much a dig on this album as a drag and borderline disservice that we prob won’t get many albums before this time for the rest of this 1001 albums project. Fav tracks: rip it up and oh why?

GOAT. 4* only because, let's face it, it's all a bit samey-samey on the album.

According to wikipedia the original lyrics to "Tutti Frutti" were "Tutti Frutti / Gimme that booty." A man ahead of his time in many ways.

Very nice little album, pretty much every song made me want to do a little bum shake, so definitely got me a bit excited when listening to it. I am pretty happy with it, and there even were a few popular songs that I recognised. If this makes me want to a little dance nowadays, imagine what it was like in 1957. The automatic Spotify suggested songs after this album ended up being very shakey as well, so I continued enjoying that kind of music even after the album was over.

Wonderful!

Favorite: Can't Believe You Want To Leave

Was not expecting to like this one as much as I did. The man’s vocals are just unparalleled and the whole album rocks from front to back.

Culturally significant. Historically mind blowing. Now it just sounds like the oldies station had a glitch.

My two year old son absolutely loved dancing to this while I made us pancakes for breakfast!

I knew most of these songs and they are all great. Definitely a movement starting record and undoubtedly vital

Bops on bops

Fun fun fun

Every music genre had to start somewhere. It just so happens that rock and roll is the starting point of a lot of them. So much of what we know today in rock music had its humble beginnings in the 40s and 50s. Little Richard also happens to be an icon of this time period in music. And really the face of it. The closest that anyone has ever really come to reaching that same point is James Brown, but he was more iconic for the roots of soul music. And even that genre found its origins in rock and roll. So it’s safe to say Richard is a pretty vital figure in music history. You could say he is one of the few progenitors of rock. But how does all of this transfer over into an album, and how much do I like him? I have had a pretty consistent track record with this genre. But it’s been consistently on the low end of the spectrum. Thankfully, I can say that all of the reputation is there for a reason. This is definitely the best rock and roll album I’ve heard so far. A trait that many of the artists share from this time period is how outrageous their energy is. The coke must have been banging back then, because everyone was fucking wild. Richard is no different. Even if this is more like a best hits collection with a few new songs, his energy and vibe is infectious. You can’t not be in a good mood with this on. And every time that saxophone comes in, a big grin grows on my face. This is a great time all around. This is apart of the ten oldest albums on this list. And it’s one of the first ones from this decade that I actually really enjoyed. Rating: 7/10

Pretty fun and clearly super influential, although it did get very repetitive.

This really is the foundation of rock today.

Again not really something I would listen to but overall enjoyed it. Many of the songs seemed to use the same musical theme if that’s the correct word. Did enjoy the well known ones though.

Still rocks and rolls, and you can really hear the influence this had on so many other things (including being blatantly stolen by Elvis). Doesn’t have the “oomph” it probably did when it first came out.

Incredible music, incredible influence. Ahh, the innocence of that era. They really had no idea. Little Richard's impact is very obvious and etched all over this album.

I’ve ofc heard some little Richard over the years, but never a full album. so it was fun! just enjoyable upbeat stuff that makes ya feel nice.

a bit repetitive feeling sometimes, but also he kind of invented rock and roll so we can excuse it. hype, exciting, a little funky, and he’s also a great singer

this kinda just rips

Rock’s obviously come a long way, but this is still fun.

Whhhoooo!

Fucking love little richard Solid, slaps

High energy, makes you want to dance. No songs I'd save to listen to regularly but that's just because the genre is a bit old fashioned for me

Great album. Enjoyed it from beginning to end.

Oh my GOD!!! One word reviews are not normally cool, but here goes…. Awesome.

Obviously, context is important with this album. It’s arguably THE album that started what rock music is today. But even without context, it holds up as great music. I hadn’t listened to it much since I was a kid - biggest thing that sticks out is that it’s blues-ier than I remember, in a good way. And the vocals are really something special. Not an album I will listen to frequently going forward, but was awesome to revisit it. A time piece that deserves its place in music history, and holds up surprisingly well.

119/1001 🌕🌕🌕🌕🌑

This was about 20 years before I was born, but I liked it! I'm not sure I'd ever listen to it on purpose, but it was a damned good listen. This is a much better representation of 50s rock music than that thieving pedo fraud, Elvis. Elvis is boring and he sucks. Little Richard just makes you want to tap your toes and nod your head and shake your ass!

Here’s Little Richard Little Richard is probably my favourite of the early rock’n’roll and R&B cohort. Even 67 years later and having heard them 100s of times there is still a visceral thrill to Tutti Frutti, Ready Teddy, Slippin’ and Slidin’, Long Tall Sally and Rip it Up - the voice and the pounding piano are still absolutely fantastic. More than his contemporaries there is a sense of imminent chaotic irreverence in his music. Jerry Lee may be a better pianist, but the combination of LRs voice and piano is uniquely fantastic. This sounds, production wise, very good, again compared to his contemporaries. Despite the innovative nature of the Sun recordings they can sound slightly antiquated, where is this still has a bit of punch to it. Outside of the songs above it is a little mixed though. True, Fine Mama, Can’t Believe You Wanna Leave, and Miss Ann have more than a hint of Fats Domino, which makes sense with the Cosimo Matassa connection and what a big influence Fats Domino was one everyone - Great vocals but not at the same level as some of the other tracks. Baby is good, I’m not really familiar with it but I enjoyed the not so subtle wink to his true sexuality on it. Oh Why is fine, although, again, not quite at the level of the other songs. Jenny, Jenny is fantastic though. For some reason I’m not that familiar with it, despite it apparently being one of his bigger songs. Superb r’n’b/rock’n’roll - feels like Macca might have liked this one. She’s Got It is a great closer too. Obviously this is American, but If you were a teenager living in a grey Britain in 1957, still recovering from the economic strain of WW2, imagine what this must have sounded like. No wonder everything that followed in rock and pop happened, when people like Little Richard, Elvis and Jerry Lee were pumping out stuff like this. I suppose the tricky thing in rating this is, is this an album, or a collection of singles plus some other tracks? It looks like it was recorded in relatively coherent sessions over a year, so it’s probably more of a consistent collection than some of his contemporaries, but there’s no doubt it just doesn’t sound like an album in the modern sense we understand. But then you also need to factor in the influence and musical importance of it all. I’d say it’s in the 3 range as an ‘album’, but it’s a 5 for its influence, importance and for its top tier early rock’n’roll classics. I’ll split the difference and go 4. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Such a fun, consistent album. The energy never wanes, even in songs about heartbreak. The upbeat, rock ‘n roll is great and I can see how directly impacted music for decades to come.

Passion and joy while singing, love half the tracks, the others are good, too! Definitely an identifiable sound when he screams "ahh" and "oo" across songs.

Such positive vibes. This album was so much fun listening to.

Enjoyed the upbeat sound of this one

So much fun. Doesn't take much imagination to understand why this still shines almost 70 years later.

this album is iconic. aged well, i imagine it was groundbreaking in 1957.

Album 439 of 1001 Little Richard - Here's Little Richard Rating : 4 / 5 Unarguably a classic. No theme, no message...just some fun tunes from an awesome and very influential performer.

Roaring and very enjoyable

Highly entertaining, so much energy! Fun.

Amazing stuff that almost feels like a snapshot of a much more complex several years in the 50’s for him. Weird, crazy genius. Love the music.

Funny, I just had Michael Jackson for my last review, & it's very clear where he got his high-pitched hoos & hee-hees from- Little Richard! Tutti Frutti, Long Tall Sally, and Rip it Up are absolute classics. Sure, a lot of them follow the same progression & format, but there are enough differences that it doesn't get old (even though the album itself is now almost 70!). Truly one of the great influences in modern rock & roll.

An absolute legend. A great. Personally prefer his live performances but if not the king, the queen of rock and roll for sure.

This album took me back to the very well designed world of Mafia 2. I would give this album 5 stars for influence but I feel that this sounds more like a “Greatest Hits” album where some songs sound alike a little too much. 4/5

It's good, upbeat. Little Richard being Little Richard, basically.

I did not expect to like this album as much as I did. I am not usually a fan of early rock and roll. However, not only were there a number of great songs (led by Tutti Frutti of course) but the album felt like a composed whole. Little Richard has always been one of those artists that I never understood why he was so popular or why so many musicians considered him so influential. I understand a little better now.

Fun album. I enjoyed listening to it, but was also happy that it was only 30 minutes long. The songs do get a bit repetitive, but as noted by many historians, musicians, and reviewers here, this album was revolutionary. I get the hype and influence from a historical and musical-innovation perspective and am giving this an extra star just for that, and while this is fun music, I don't think this is an album I'll be seeking out again, despite my above average rating.

Pretty much a greatest hits album as most of the big ones are here. Pure 50's Rock & Roll at its best. Elvis may have been the king but Little Richard was the Prince even Elvis covered Tutti Frutti for his debut.

It is REALLY difficult to hate this record. I don’t know if it’s just because this sound have become ingrained in popular culture as “classics everyone from toddlers to centenarians can enjoy,” or if I’ve just had to go to too many weddings in the last few years, but this is great, front-to-back. Little Richard’s pure charisma and rock star nature shines through – in his vocal screams, in his piano playing, in his lyrics, in his vibe. This sounds like rock music, which is crazy, because most of it is closer to softer 12-bar blues made for dances and soda shops. But when Richard kicks it, he shreds, and he can burn the roof off, even by today’s standards. And while both styles fit Richard, I personally thank god that this debut is more the latter than the former. It’s also hard to listen to Richard and not hear queerness, because everything about his sound and aesthetic feels important and influential to queer culture. Personally, this girl can’t help but feel that and admire that in Little Richard’s music. Knowing how Richard himself struggled with his identity, despite it so obviously playing a role in his impact, is truly heartbreaking, and I hope that in another lifetime, he’s resting easier and living more authentically. (And maybe not expressing himself in such creepy, sexually frustrated ways….) I think if these songs were longer or the album itself was longer, I’d complain about the limited range of style, but at 28 minutes, this is a bop all the way through. Sure, it’s still ’50s rock music – you aren’t going to think this is one of the greatest albums ever made unless you’re a sucker for this era writ large – but given its age, it’s incredible how well it holds up, even now. Like Buddy Holly, this is more deserving of praise and should still be played loud as hell.

great voice and fun energetic tracks, all songs sounded good but a few sounded pretty similar

Great up upbeat sounds

A lot of the same sound, just a different woman he's singing about. Little Richard's Little Richard has some stories to tell!

Excellent album

I’ve never been a fan of 50s music, but you cannot overlook the importance of Little Richard and this album to the evolution of rock and roll. He was a huge talent and his unique character was refreshing and surprisingly appreciated at that point in history.

Classic American rock n roll.

Critically important to the history of American music. Also the same song 12 times. 4/5

Classic 12 bar blues rock Most tracks sound kind of alike Some tracks are a bit more reggae, some a bit more 60s rock with solos

uzil som si velmi cestou do eatu, super vokaly, super groove true fine mama fav - pianko jak lusk

Great album!

Consistent, great performance, fun. Gotta love Little Richard!

Very fun classics. The variety sound like a compilation of singles recorded over 1-2 years. Some tunes sound like possibly from when he was still developing aspects of his vocal style.

There's something to be said for an album with under a half-hour running time, especially one as non-stop as this. I've never really listened much to the original decade of rock-n-roll, but it's hard to deny that Little Richard is up in the pantheon, and this actually seems like a good album of his to include (despite being more of a greatest hits/compilation album of his singles than a true "debut album"). Curiously, "Oh Why?" sounds more like a woman singing than Little Richard...

Some definite classics here.

What a bopper! Really great stuff, sweaty and fun as heck.

Great singing. Could use more variety in the songs but there's just enough start-stop for me. Here's Little Richard. (⌐■_■)

Having not listened to Little Richard in a long time, what struck me this time is how much of this album is basically amped up boogie boogie woogie. That’s not a knock. So much rock is just a louder iteration on what came before. This album has a ton of energy and still resonates.

You can see how they thought rock n' roll was dangerous. 4*

Yes. important. Original. and still Fresh. It still works now. So imaginethe riot and a joy to hear it back in the 50s. a Hoot. so I turned it up so the mono sound came forth... still energizing today, which is something as old music and films seem slow now. its got to be hear as a birth of ROck album

I enjoyed it a lot.

He’s a genius for sure.

Great great great ... I hear young Elvis Presley there too

not sure how to rate this honestly. like, all the songs on their own individually are pretty solid and fun. little richard has a heckuva voice and style that I'm sure would've been absolutely wild to see live. he's of course an icon in the history of popular music and an inspiration to all of your favorite artists and bands. the only problem is that basically every uptempo song from the 50s (and on this album in particular) is just the 12-bar blues progression. they're all about 2-2:30 long, often mention a woman's name, and are all pretty much interchangeable. i like the songs well enough but the album format here just falls flat. so uh, 3.5 stars? idk also every time i hear the chorus of she's got it, i think it's going to segue into that shocking blue/bananarama song venus favorites: tutti frutti, ready teddy, long tall sally (the thing), miss ann, rip it up, jenny jenny, she's got it

Really fun and cohesive, every song made me want to dance. An absolute classic.

If not for Little Richard a lot of the 1001 albums wouldn’t exist

It was something indeed. It was fun

Great!

It's basically the same song on repeat, but what a song. From the first boo bap a doo wah to the final yeah! it's an incredible performance - an incindiary singer, Little Richard burns through these jumped up blues tracks with a level of intensity, charisma, control and pure heat that you can literally hear pushing recording technology beyond its capacity to capture. The guy's out here basically inventing rocking the fuck out.

Fan of the oldies over here - 3.5

I feel like this record is timeless, classic, and influential. Surprisingly good for being recorded in 57. I can only imagine the energy that Little Richard brought in front of an audience. Some real classic bangers on this album. It is kind of repetitive but it's fun and energetic.

exciting from the get go... and it doesn't stop... ideal for when you are cleaning and on the go.. wouldn't listen to at night if you are trying to wind down.... gym would be perfect doing aerobics. you can hear the history of rock and roll here

1/1 first lil

A literal bop

wop bobba loo, bop

It very much feels like a collection of singles and b sides rather than a fully fledged album. Shame

one of the best uplifting rock blues albums Little Richard delivery & impact is astonishing the more u will be in blues than more you gonna love it 88

7/10. Fun album. Lots of good songs, but as the album goes on it starts to feel a little like the same short song over again. I did end up putting “Oh Why?” on the 5 ⭐️list because I thought the album was good enough to have one song on the list and that was my favorite I think due to the trumpets.

Really reminds me of Fallout music, particularly the song Mighty Mighty Man. -Tutti Frutti (this song has almost only two words but has a nice jazz beat to it. upbeat.) Immediately noticed that this guy loves belting/that classic jazz thing people do to sound cool. He uses drums and piano to carry his voice and sometime allows them to overtake his vocals.

original and enjoyable - not really my jam tho

Not my kind of music but incredible

Great album. Back to the future vibes.

A really good album with the classic song Tutti Frutti. There wasn't a song I didn't like.

Rock n roll, lekker man Dat dit bijna 70 jaar oud is vind ik echt bizar

Old school cool

8,5/10 Highlights: Slippin' And Slidin' Long Tall Sally Rip It Up

What a powerful voice packed into short punchy songs. Knew some of the tracks: Tutti Frutti, Long Tall Sally, and etc. Happy to hear some new-to-me deeper cuts.

I enjoyed this album a lot more than I thought I would.

I miss hearing his songs on the radio. 4/5

This is another record that I'd use my hypothetical time machine for. Imagine going back to 1957 and hearing this ripping up your radio speakers. Incredible performances throughout, and Little Richard's vocals and keys are incendiary. The songwriting and structure is formulaic, but this music essentially created the formula for pop music going forwards.

He has such great energy and it’s a fun listen, if all a bit samey

Groundbreaking, classic, so catchy. A little repetitive maybe at this point, but you can hear how this would have rang out like a clarion call when it was released. Also, 13 songs in 33 minutes, this album moves it right along. As of today this album is 67 years old and yet we still know & instantly recognize songs, that's a hell of an accomplishment

The little toaster comes to mind immediately. Not a lot of variety here. He’s got a sound and that sound is his. 7/10

Anyone who scrapes the pan owes a debt to Little Richard. Was surprised by the variety to the sound - some songs more soulful & bluesy (Baby), others raucous and rocking - and all filled with an insane amount of energy for a studio album.

gro hitovaa

Exuberant and joyful. Extra star for nostalgia: takes me back to my Dad hammering out this songs on an upright piano when I was little.

full of energy, some big songs you can't NOT know, great for its age, would listen again

A delightful listen!

This one is fun, though I wonder if they regularly mixed up the songs since they are so formulaic. :)

it's fun but I'll never listen to this again

Honestly this holds up so much better than the vast majority of the 50s music I've heard. His voice is so intense and the lower quality of the recording actually amplifies that in a way that makes it sound very timeless. You can also really see how much influence this had on early rock and roll. So many bangers too.

an absolute blue print for early rock and roll. Would rank higher if ever song didn’t sound the same

Classic music. Ahead of his time, made you want to get up and dance!

4 out of 5

Good music all the way. Not my style, but it’s good.

Always fun but can only listen to so much at one time.

Fun roots rock.

Its got the classics

Yeah that's a cracker

Great foot stomping songs! This dude knew how to rock the place up. You can feel the fun they had while making these songs. While the songs are good, infectious and fun to listen to, I'm glad the record isn't much longer. Standout tracks: Tutti Frutti, Can't Believe You Wanna Leave, Ready Teddy, Slippin' and Slidin', Long Tall Sally, Oh Why?, Rip It Up, She's Got It 8 out of 10

It’s repeated in almost every song but so historically important.

Solid record

The real rock 'n' roll

So good. A true original and a huge influence on everything that was to come. Still sounds fresh and awesome. 4 stars.

Little Richard was having fun making music and was helping to create rock and roll. These songs could show up on a play list and I would enjoy each of them. We’ve come a long way, so I won’t likely throw on the album just for fun. But it’s a good listen

Pretty fun album with an iconic song and voice.

Enjoyable even though the songs all sound very similiar

4.5/5. So this is where all rock music branches from.

I have always loved “Tutti Fruiti”; it is such a fun song. “Baby” was great, more jazzy than some of the other songs on the album. This is a short album but really a lot of fun to listen to. There is a lot of repetition and many of the more rock and roll songs sound very similar. It’s a 4 for me.

Old Rock. Tutti Frutti on the rutti. old school boom. its good but not most is going into my daily rotation. Love the roughness to his voice

Easy 4 stars - cool musix

If Little Richard is the architect of rock n roll, this album is the blueprint mainly know for its classic RnB and early rock n roll sound. Two songs stand out and are probably its best known songs, Tutti Frutti and Long Tall Sally. Tutti Frutti is an energetic song, pretty wild for the time that would define the rock n roll sounds for decade to come, know for its intro "A-wop-bop-a-loo-mop-a-lop-bam-boom!" and the chorus "tutti frutti, o rudy", his screaming voice is what drive this song. Long tall sally was cover so many time, including by the Beatles and Elvis, but his version is far superior, just for being the original Other songs are classic RnB early rock n roll sunds, nit particulary worth listening but not bad at all. We have to say that Richard's style is fast and very energetic compare to others from that time. Readdy Teddy look too much like long tall sally. Baby, Slippin' and Slidin' and rip it up are good Anyway Little Richard was really a unique figure in rock, a pioneer who was extremely provocative for its time, the way he sing, he dance and he dress and was one of the first black artist to reach white audiences.

A fantastic album that brought Little Richard into the forefront of music. Not my favorite style of music but definitely a good and enjoyable listen. 4 Stars

This holds up really well because there are no ballads, just faster R and B and slower R and B. Simple. Got to give it a 4.

Unbelievable starting with that album cover. The epitome of energy and funky sexy cool coming out of the wild side of the late-50s. It would be a 5 but it's from the time before albums were full stories. Three hits that are where it's at. Long Tall Sally, Tutti Fruiti, Slipping & a Slidin. Cmon! Banging that piano and screaming for his soul!

Made me want to take off my shoes and find a sock hop! Some variety, but it’s the feel-good vibe that makes this so good.

Nice and Upbeat Rock‘n‘Roll Album, really motivated me to clean the house. But the songs all sound very similar.

Great great stuff. Almost impossible to overstate his influence on rock and pop music. Sad he's never gotten the credit he deserves

Important album. Going 4, even though in the broader 1001, it might be a 3.

One of the most important acts in music history (makes good songs too)

Knowing the context of how these songs were groundbreaking makes this album better for me.

I'm not sure it's an album exactly, but there's legendary songs and great energy all the way through!

Handmaid Rock n' roll

66 years old and still sounding good.

Is every album going to cause a deep dive learning about the artist and origins? Loved this album. Very fun. Might just be a rebound love compared to Genesis, but overall… Quite bop-able and an interesting back story.

I loved this album! I remember seeing Little Richard on tv when I was a kid, and it was always a show.

What a fun album. 4/5

one of the architects of rock and roll, the incomparable little richard. quality rock and roll with all the energy and passion that you would expect from him. and his voice… his voice was made for rock and roll. this album kicks ass pretty much from start to finish. highlights: “tutti frutti”, “slippin’ and slidin’ “, “long tall sally”, “jenny, jenny”.

Some very classic songs that help to shape blues/rock 'n roll as we know it. Tutti Frutti, Ready Teddy, and Long Tall Sally are all high energy "bops" even in 2024!

Another early.gem I did not know, but really liked for its rhythm.

Totally rocking grooves that have shaped a lot of rock as we know it.

bunch of 50s classics. not bad

Sound was excellent- some songs pretty same-y (to me), but his influence is clear

brings me back to being a kid and listening to time-life 1950s decades cds on repeat. classic, so fucking classic.

Nice, quite nice

Hard to believe that this is Little Richard's debut. You just can't be in a bad mood when these songs are played.

💖 ready teddy 🗣️ 8️⃣

Great vocals and the songs don’t over stay their welcome

Would give it a 5 star for the voice and that it might have furthered rock and roll. Changed it to a 4 because every song were to similar musically

Classic Rock n Roll.

What a burst of energy!

Already knew a few songs from this album, and definitely already knew the artist. Also a big fan of rock 'n roll, so biased to like it already.

Classic blues progressions. Can’t believe you wanna leave, Long Tail Sally and Rip it up stand outs

Little Richard rocks, no denying it

4/5 that was a nice blues album!

Sometimes you listen to an influential album and you appreciate what it meant but it doesn’t have the visceral impact now, and sometimes you listen to Here’s Little Richard and it still hits like a freight train. Musically it’s all very played out at this point, but his energy and passion transcends the decades.

I was vibing to this in the bath

Classic old school Rock'n'Roll.👌

Another classic. High energy rock. Gotta love it.

Lekker!

Zeer lekker gerockt en tevens ook gerolld. Tutti frutti is echt banger

Great voice.

I enjoyed this album, is interesting that this was a collection of singles, which I think as I’m listing feels like each song is very similar. Of course love little Richard's energy and singing style (a true original) and the horns. I appreciate the history of these tunes but I admit I would not be putting this album on again but did like the tunes for what they were. It really a 3.5 for me but the artist & impact the album had on music boosts it up to 4 for me.

A classic rock album, Little Richard had some bops Top Tracks: Tutti Frutti, Slippin’ and Sliddin,’ Long Tall Sally (The Thing)

Solid 50s album

- one of the original rock stars - love the energy and the yelling

"A-wop-bop-a-loo-mop-a-lop-bam-boom!" is the first thing you hear and its still feels as invigorating as it must have felt 68 years ago... Dirty blues classics with a side of boogie-woogie and you're done in under 30 minutes, having had some fun tonight.

It's fantastic music but the album is very repetitive.

It's nice when a musical innovator actually makes something wholly good.

Arguably the most important album in rock and roll history. This hit with speed and intensity that hadn't been seen before, inspiring countless others. Richard's voice is amazing. Compared to contemporaries like Elvis this man could really belt it out. I think he is the first to have a vocal trademark, his Woooooo. Decades before Michael Jackson's Heehee for example. All that said this suffers from a sameness to all the songs. The song structure and melodies are almost carbon copies of each other.

A billion times better than Elvis.

It's hard to argue the power of this album. It lives in the bones of much of what came after it. And the songs still cook today. Joyful, saucy, full-tilt rock and roll that's incredibly fun to listen to. Fave Songs: Tutti Frutti; Slippin' and Slidin'; Rip It Up; Long Tall Sally; Ready Teddy; Jenny, Jenny

I probably wouldn't have sought this out on my own, but it's obvious why he was a charter member of the R&R HOF in 1986 (back when it meant something). Enjoyed this.

3.6 - really good songs but maybe too much for a whole album

Classic, this record is so energetic and wild. Love tracks like Ready Teddy where you can hear the piano keys getting hit as hard as possible. Great listen, gotta knock it a little just for being very samey for the whole album, but there’s no world where this isn’t a strong 4 to light 5.

Vette nummers, klinkt wel wat gedateerd. Niet al te divers

I'm not sure we got played the actual album but it was definitely Little Richard. Was he a proven bad man? Is it ok to enjoy this? Very rocknroll. Hard to not bop to.

jovial

Tutti frutti is amazing. Little Richard's voice sounds way more fun than Elvis Presley's. I honestly prefer this over any of Elvis's songs

Some truly great songs here and a blueprint for what rock'n'roll would become. Suffers in part as a product of its time- it comes from before albums were the unit of expression, so there is definitely some filler and some sameness here that wouldn't fly for a later effort. Still a 4/5 even with that.

Very good

TUTTTIIII FRUUUUTI

Loaded with funk

What a find. Terrific at parts. Can be one note but I like the note. 4/5

An enjoyable, if dated listen

Actual classic this time. Very one-note stylistically yet it doesn’t get old thanks to the energy beaming from the performances. Timeless!

Chill af

A true classic. The material from which all subsequent rock was created.

Why didn’t I know tutti frutti was little Richard lol

Wreszcie coś z rytmem ;) 4/5 będzie grane conajmniej

Gotta love early rock and roll. I don't have much else to say other than it was a fun half hour and tutti fruitti is still a fun song. This is one where I'd have more to say if I listened chronologically because then I could see the development of rock from here to Beatlemania etc.

Great album and shows his style. Enjoyed it.

1957 man.. . He was the real deal. But it is pretty dated now.

finger waggin music

Little Richard has always been my favorite of that first class of rock and rollers, and yet today was my first time listening to an entire album of his. I'm sorry I waited so long. This is great stuff. And if the opening to Tutti Fruitti isn't what rock and roll is all about, then I don't know what is. Yes, every song is a 12-bar blues, and that would normally cause me to tune out. But he mixes things up enough that I never got bored. Then again, the album is only 30 minutes long. In terms of historical importance and influence, this is a 5-star album. I mean, probably half of all R&R was influenced by this album. As for a regular listening experience, though, this is more of a 4.

I was able to listen to this with fresh ears and wow what a timeless soul. I knew The Beatles always referenced him as influential but I did not know that they opened for him in 1962. Jimi Hendrix was also in Little Richard's original band, The Upsetters. All this hit home today just how influential this man was. That saxophone blending with his vocals screams American classic. Don't know that I would have ever played an entire Little Richard album but now I'm interested to explore more.

finger wag

I liked this more than I thought I would and think that Tutti Fruiti is slightly overrated comparatively

It's good to hear the roots of rock and roll, if not a little repetitive.

Little Richard is a legend. His music brought people from diverse backgrounds together. His unique and recognizable sounds paved the way for rock.

Liked the sound but didn't pay attention to the lyrics that much lol.

Fun to listen to. It was a little repetitive but interesting to listen to different takes of the same songs

Little Richard va ici s'efforcer de relever le niveau de sa décennie de gros ringards parmi lesquels on trouve évidemment Buddy Holly & The Crickets et son leader Martin Lamotte.

Near perfect, I especially liked the more upbeat songs in the beginning

What a strong start to an album! Listening to it I can picture how much energy one of his live shows would have had

Quite enjoyable. Little Richard is full of energy, and sounds great!

A clear inspiration on the early sound (and song writing) of Rock and Roll. Deserves a spot on this list for that alone. That being said, as an album, I find all the songs sound too similar in structure, becoming repetitive. The singles, and even the b-sides, are all great, solid songs and I feel were intended to be listened to as such (rather than in succession). But good golly, it's good!

Not my favorite music but done well. Energetic. Would be fun for dancing.

Tuti Fruti is so good but then the album lags for a bit. It does not have bad songs after Tuti Fruit, they just aren't as good as Tuti Fruit. Was going to give it 3 stars. But then before it ends, everything just gets so good. Easily deserves a 4. A classic.

Well this is the sound of the 50's if you ever heard one.Powerful voice and catchy early rock tunes.

Pretty good rock n roll album. No great songs, but a pretty fun time.
