Reviews (page 7 of 8)

Felt like standard driving rock with no hook.

This was okay, but had a lot of forgettable tracks. Nothing too interesting either, just run of the mills 80's rock but completely lacking of any memorable hooks on any songs. The vocals aren't all that special either. 2/5

I know this album means a lot to some people, but I just can’t really get into it. 𝘓𝘦𝘵 𝘐𝘵 𝘉𝘦 has that rough, careless alternative rock sound that probably felt refreshing at the time, but most of it doesn’t leave much of an impression on me. The whole thing feels intentionally loose and messy, which I get is part of the charm, but after a while it just loses me. There are a few moments I like, just not enough to make the album really stick.

Highlights: Unsatisfied, Androgynous, Seen Your Video. In a nutshell: oh MTV, up yours! The Replacements are the gritty indie rock you may not have heard of before. Or if you have, someone mentioned their 4th album Tim. I think this is a grower. Stylistically it reminds me of New York Dolls. Maybe The Modern Lovers. I appreciated their diss track on MTV and music videos in general. Overall: 4/10

Don’t copy an album title and then make a considerably worse one. I didn’t really enjoy it that much, I’ll be honest. It feels too punky without the charm that an album like, for example, London Calling. I can also admit that I think it would grow on me if I listened again.

This is good

Was not in the mood for some wanna be rock stars (I might get hit by lighting). 2.1

On paper, The Replacements are exactly my cup of tea but they always leave me feeling underwhelmed

honestly. this was quite shit

It’s punk in its sensibility, but slow and boring.

2 1/2 Stars: The Replacements were one of those blind-spot bands in my listening history, so I was excited for this to be my daily assignment. Maybe it was my mood, or my drifting attention, but I found this record perfectly cromulent. I didn't find it particularly memorable and I doubt I'll find my way back to it.

not for me

Demasiado punk agresivo

He amount of punk bands on this list is too damn high.

Noisy. Really crappy noise.

Not much to say! Was just okay.

Just ok

01) I Will Dare - 6,5 02) Favorite Thing - 5,5 03) We're Comin' Out - 5,0 04) Tommy Gets His Tonsils Out - 5,5 05) Androgynous - 6,5 06) Black Diamond - 6,0 07) Unsatisfied - 6,0 08) Seen Your Video - 6,0 09) Gary's Got a Boner - 6,0 10) Sixteen Blue - 5,5 11) Answering Machine - 5,5 TOTAL: 5,82 (58/100) Current ranking: 710/870

I find the Replacements really overrated. I've tried to listen to them many times over the years, from the 80s till now, and I'm always bored. The only song I really love by them is Alex Chilton, which is not on this album.

No? Ok, it took a few tracks but I get why it's important. Turning point in the pop-alt-punk cross over maybe? It feels a little glam metally too, so even though it sounds like a lot of things that sound the same, it also sounds unique. I can't find myself to enjoy this particular Frankenstein of genres. It doesn't make sense to start at punk and also try to please such a broad audience. I don't care much for the jangly guitar, and everything else has a canned feel to it. I'm glad I didn't hear the default expanded edition. 33 minutes is fine, thanks. 2.2/5

Gary's got a boner !! Fave track: I Will Dare

Ok i guess

Saved? ✅ Would listen again? 🤔 Would recommend to anyone? ❌ Would buy on Vinyl? ❌

I liked the first couple of songs but then it got louder and crashier. Was going to give it three stars but bumping it down to two.

I fear that me great 5 album run has come to a sudden end with this supposed punk classic from the U.S. This album does not represent the sound of 1984 AT ALL - punk had moved on. Not unpleasant throughout but I'm not hearing music essential to my life here at all.

Meh. Just another punk band. 2.5/5

Some of the songs make me laugh or had good instrumentals, but mostly I would have to be in a very specific mood to want to listen to this again. More like 2.5, but can’t give it a full 3 stars.

Not really any sticking power for me. Favorites were androgynous and answering machine

1 stern

Who knew a song called "Gary's Got A Boner" would be such a banger? I don't know if my break from this project has made me more critical or if maybe I've just been given some meh albums.

This sounded more like glam rock than post-punk/ alt-rock to my ears. Like a rougher version of Poison, or Aerosmith. It was okay in parts, but nothing really stood out. Kind of low effort and a bit of a pub band feel. Two stars.

The best songs were instrumentals or more musically focused. The rest are more punk generic and forgettable. Was ok

Not a single stand out track. It’s not terrible but the more I listen to it, the less I can recall anything about it.

I really wanted to like this because I’ve heard nothing but good things about The Replacements but unfortunately this was really underwhelming for me. The only song that stood out for me was Androgynous, everything else left no impression on me at all.

Like punk music but this didn’t do it for me. Wasn’t very catchy and I don’t think the album had much of a message or point of view.

Þetta fannst mér ekki skemmtilegt.

Pretty uninteresting punk/post punk. Androgenous was ok, but most of the other songs didn't do it for me. 2.4/5 -> 2/5

Bit samey 2.5

Middling to ok.

Si ça m'avait marqué j'serais différent mais j't'indifférent. 2.49 étoiles.

The term “punk” gets overused. Using it to describe this is wrong. Boring, jangly and uninteresting. Nothing about this was remarkable in any way. Struggled to a 2.

Shockingly generic 80s rock for the most part? Some tracks are ok though. Androgynous was pretty good. Not much to say, another one of those "why was this on the list" albums.

Another band that had a rabid fan and critic following that I just never quite got. The first track was fun, and then it went downhill from there.

When I first saw let it be, I got excited for a sec that it was The Beatles. Another band where I like a few of their songs but don’t need a whole album from them.

Just wasn’t really interested in this one. The album didn’t stand out anywhere sonically.

No standouts

How about you Replace this music with something good over here. Small joke there, it is actually an ok album. Another one that I think I would enjoy a lot more with a slightly better voice, but it does fit well on some of the songs.

Groupe inconnu. Pas désagréable, mais rien d’original dans cet album. Les morceaux les plus dynamiques sont d’inspiration punk, les autres sont … ennuyeux. Pas de seconde écoute envisagée. => 2/5

some fun tracks lots of heavy guitar that likely influenced the strokes, i hear them somehow - this album for me is repetitive though 2.5-3

Pretty good for early 80’s rock but in all pretty forgettable. Not a must listen to album by any means.

Definition of meh. Super confused as to all the references to this being anthemic rock since none of this felt catchy enough to sing along to. Kind of liked Androgyny - nice, more hopeful throwback to Velvet Underground's Candy Says. But it stands out as a quieter track that's atypical of the rest of the super mediocre album. Solid 2-3 and rounding down for taking another better album's spot on the list.

Nothing special, only stand out song is Androgynous.

Gritty vocals, decent guitar work, but several questionable songs.

Not a hit for me. Mid rock 🤷

bis etz uuuhuere eklektischs album. finds nöd soo kohärent. aso sie sind wild und ungestüm und harys got a boner rieeese banger okay okay. sixteen blue isch no cute. aber s macht alles neeegativ öpis mit mir. anwering machine sseeeehr geile gitarretone

Pretty generic and forgettable.

M’en souviens pas trop mais cetait ok

J'ai oublié mes commentaires je me souviens juste de la note que j'avais en tête 2/5

Nothing special. Good thing that the album was quite short

Listens: 2 Standout Tracks: Gary's Got A Boner This whole album seemed pretty childish. It reminded me of a post/punk version of Meatloaf's Bat Out Of Hell; dripping with teenage angst, and a bit less mature. Needless to say, I was not a fan of the music or the subject matter.

…thought it was Beatles

nicht meine Musik

It’s like listening to the Sex Pistols but not as good

not an album i'd choose to listen to

When the "music" on this album wasn't annoying me, it was boring me to tears. I can manage two stars because some of the guitar and drum work was OK.

Not impressed I'm afraid

Ok 2/5

Ei ollu meikän juttu.

Punkig, nicht mein Stil.

Didn’t grab me. Guitars and music were quite good but I didn’t like the vocals. Not planning to listen again.

Little too raw

This is another one of those albums that I appreciated musically, but didn't connect with personally. There were some parts I liked along the way, but generally, I liked this less the longer I listened. It was not a bad album, but it was not something I think I'll return to. It feels silly to critique punk music as being too messy, but I think there's a way to be punky and messy while still displaying skill. That's definitely not to say there wasn't a display of skill here. The guitar work was impressive (like really impressive) and the rhythm stayed strong throughout the whole runtime. I can see why some people really enjoy this album, but I am not one of those people. Different strokes for different folks, I guess!

Felt pretty bland and didn’t give me much. 2 stars

Vocals are sub par. Not a fan of the grunge nature of the first couple songs. First three songs I would give a 2/5 at best. One positive thing that does stand out tho is the progression of the instruments and songs. I feel like it’s got a good mix but the screaming vocals just drown out the song where maybe a different singer could be beneficial. Androgynomoys was the song that I saved which I liked

This was a pretty average album. Short enough to not be annoying. I listened to it and probably never will again.

This should really be my jam! I guess I just wasn't feeling like listening to songs about Gary's boner today :( I'm going to come back to this one another day for a fresh listen another day and maybe edit my rating.

# Album Name: Let it be # Artist: The Replacement # Rating: 2/5 # Comments: Not for me. Underwhelming. Pretty forgettable and boring. # Top Tunes: None # Would I listen to it again? No

I kind of like Androgynous, pretty forward-thinking for 1984. Otherwise some fairly standard punk and post-punk songs.

Don’t see the appeal. Tbh I don’t think post punk is my genre, every band in the genre I’ve tried is just ok. 2 of 5, it’s not bad

Not my thing

My first impression was that this album kind of sounds like if Bon Jovi did punk rock, but in a bad way. There was something about the early tracks in particular that just felt like they lacked an edge, especially the opener, which has a bit of a Beatles vibe, yet I found it to be incredibly forgettable. The album picks up a bit around the third song, We're Comin' Out, which brings some much needed energy. High speed guitar riffs litter tracks like this across the album, and they're at least entertaining and technically impressive, if a touch cliche. From this song onward the album feels like a collage of punk rock, hair rock, and soft rock, though the band does not skirt the line between these sounds nearly as well as Pixies did, whom I feel were a big influence on this band's sound. There are some interesting ideas thrown around. Unsatisfied is a very classic 80s stadium rock sounding ballad, though the vocals bring some surprising vulnerability to the track. Seen Your Video is an interesting instrumental song that plays with the band's sound, while closer Answering Machine cuts out the percussion and features just the vocalist and the guitar working together. I appreciate the band experimenting and attempting to leave their comfort zone on these kinds of songs. I also need to highlight Tommy Gets His Tonsils Out, a song about, well, getting your tonsils out. This song kind of defines the album in my mind. On one hand, it's charming and funny and playful, it feels like it should work, but on the other hand, it also feels like it's trying very hard to be something it's not. I admire it for being quaint, but it ultimately feels like a gimmick, and it doesn't hold your attention much after it's done. By far the best track though is song 5, Androgynous. A part of me can't believe a song about gender politics snuck its way onto an album like this way back in 1984, though perhaps that says more about how far we've regressed in the current era. Still, the band is exploring ideas that could actually be considered taboo, and they're actually taking a stance on something. It gives the band some much needed edge and identity. The weird stilted piano gives the track an oddness that matches the theme of a gender bending couple who don't quite fit in to our expected norms, but the catchiness and warmness makes the track feel wholesome and harmless, which matches the message of the song. It's easily the track I wanted to return to the most. It kind of reminded me of something Lou Reed would hum and tap his foot to. There are shining moments on this album, but altogether it feels like a band desperately trying to find their identity. The album is at its best when it feels like they're being earnest and exploring topics of personal interest to them (Unsatisfied, Androgynous), but too often it feels like the band is trying to emulate other acts that did it better. There's a push and pull between them watering their sound down for more mainstream appeal, and them going full punk to grasp at what I assume is their roots. It's not a bad album, but it's just bland. There's a lot of effort on display, but it can't hide a like of authenticity.

Auch zu diesem Album finde ich nicht wirklich Zugang.

Ok I didn’t spend the most time on this album, I won’t lie. And I didn’t mind the songs that I heard. Most of the songs don’t sound much like an 80’s album to me, sounds a little more modern. I didn’t hate it! I enjoyed listening to it.. I just probably won’t be listening to it again

Probably good just not for me

I don't understand how rock survived with rubbish like this

Ehhh this album is alright, I feel there’s a lot of energy and noise, but something about these songs feels very shallow to me. I don’t think a lot is being said. Given the punk nature of the album I feel I should enjoy it but it just feels like another performative record from the 80s that has all the bells and whistles but lacks depth. Few decent tracks but not loving it overall Fav tracks - I Will Dare - Worst tracks - Unsatisfied (the singing sounds like Puddle of Muds cover of about a girl) - Answering machine -

Need a few more listens but enjoyed it

It's alright, not really My taste but It sounded nice

oh well, ive tried the replacements. a bit too raw.

words i never want to hear a male rock singer from the 80s say in any context, ranked: -fifteen -sixteen -seventeen

I don't know if I've listened to this all in one sitting before. I have "I Will Dare" on 7" but I don't know if other songs stand out by title. Some of this gets too classic rock for me. Even though i really like a lot of Replacement songs (and there is a number of songs I on here), it's hard for me to get through the whole of this album.

Easily forgettable

Some whiny angry man rock, some okay

Bästa spår; sixteen blue, Seen your video.

#597. Pretty unimpressive British punk. 2/5: meh.

Firmly middling 2.5 stars

Not my vibe

was ok, bit forgettable.

I tought it was going to be the beatles one, the first track is the best of the bunch. 4/10

No estuvo mal, pero ya me olvidé todo. Nota: 2.3

Wasn't really my kinda music unfortunately :(

Imagine a world where the list wasn't bloated with punk music like this.

Not bad but not heard of them before.

😮‍💨

First it was punk, then it was pop and more like the Smith's with some very punk tracks thrown in (what other style would "Gary's Got a Boner" be in?). The punk was ok and the slower songs not really my thing. Just a bit incoherent. Strong 2 star.

Don’t hate it but also don’t love it. Upbeat, high energy. Sometimes the shouting is a bit much. Some cool guitar riffs. Appreciate the lyrics of ‘Androgynous’ - definitely ahead of its time.

While it wasn’t terrible, nothing was great enough to stick out in my mind worthy of listening again. I gave it a few rounds, and it was decent background music to go about my day, but nothing special. Listen again:no Purchase for my collection: no Favourite Song:

jangly. underwhelming. I still don't get what people see in these guys.

Don't like this genre

nota 2 - pelo péssimo cover de Black Diamond do Kiss - como eu sempre digo: "Deixa a música quieta lá..."

I could be kind about this but i wont. its bad. 2 stars.

2.5/5. Just fine, mainly forgettable.

If I had to sum up this album in one word that word would be, meh.

Kudos to them for expanding their sound into melody, but this is only slightly less boring than their first two studio albums. They weren't the most interesting thing coming out of Minneapolis-St. Paul in the those years. I much preferred Westerberg's post Replacements solo work. "Waiting for Somebody" and "Dyslexic Heart" are rock masterpieces.

Not quite my thing

I don't think I like.this, it's a bit dull

People often lament how overlooked this group was. Listening to this album I do not share that point of view. There were a couple good songs but also a lot of noise. Didn’t hate it but didn’t love it.

in my brain it’s an unwritten rule that only the beatles can name an album “let it be” xD but yes, this didn’t really fall into my personal enjoyment. maybe i’ll feel different on another day and in a different mood.

Generic rock, but really repetitive. Really not a fan of the lead singer's voice. Androgynous and Answering Machine were kinda interesting, and Black Diamond was fun. Best song: Black Diamond

Strokes rip off, lol.

I didn't really like this album. Something about it rubbed me the wrong way.

i had no strong feelings about this

80s punk rock - loud, abrasive, and far too celebratory of Gary’s boner.

In the early 2000s I went to quite a few punk/ska gigs: Guttermouth at The Garage, Rancid at Brixton Academy, plus some no-name bands at the White Horse in High Wycombe and some Reading pubs. I went because some of my friends liked this type of music. I didn't have wide enough horizons to know that there were other types of (live!) music out there that I might prefer, and even if I did I didn't have the social nous to be able to coordinate a group outing. And I feel now, listening to the Replacements, that all these bands I saw that I didn't really like had their roots in this kind of 80s punk. I will say that when it's carefully recorded it sounds ok! It's easy background listening. But, on reflection, when this kind of stuff is played live in the Purple Turtle by 20 year olds jumping around without their shirt on it sounded pants. I'm just not really into this. Best songs: I will dare Unsatisfied

This had nothing for me. I don’t think it knew what it was.

Interesting album. I've heard a bunch of Replacements tunes over the years. My first introduction to them was off of the Say Anything soundtrack with their song "Within Your Reach", which was really good. This album came out after that song, and after listening to it, it definitely has it high points and some low points. Mainly, I didn't really get into any single song and say that's a masterpiece. Overall, it's decent with some interesting guitar work. I dunno, something about this sounds like they're trying to be a punk band, but just lack the rage or creativity to get there. Maybe punk-light? Good songs to check out: We're Coming Out Black Diamond Sixteen Blue 2/5

They seem talented When I did things as a kid I used to pretend I wasn't trying (even if I was). Simple cope - if you haven't tried your best then you're not actually trash at whatever you've tried. You can always do better, you just don't want to. And then you never improve. And I guess to others it seemed like I was talented, just didn't apply myself This is how I often feel about punk - a get out of jail free card for cowardly musicians. It could've sounded good, but who knows. They never tried

Tiene dos o tres temas muy buenos pero deja mucho que desear. Es un grunge que no termina de ser grunge y sus mejores temas son baladas que cumplen.

I’m not cool enough to like 80’s punk rock… was into the slower songs a bit.

The trend of hating 80s music continues. Did nothing for me.

Begon oke, later wack

Lots of paeans to this album in the reviews but I don’t really see it.

Nothing special.

Niet mijn ding, vond dit niet bijzonder, mistte uiteindelijk ook net een beetje energie.

Meh, not really my style.

It was okay

It’s okay - but I've heard music in the same genre, that - to me - is more catchy. But I am intrigued and would like to delve more into this bands discography

It might be nostalgia, but the sound of 80s punk/indie still doesn't work for me. I remember there being a few songs here and there that would catch my attention, but for the most part I really did not enjoy the sound. After all this time, I apparently still don't. I'm sure it largely has to do with my listening to predominantly classical, jazz, and rock/metal that required (sometimes extreme) musical competence back then (and now, for that matter). I'm not sure what to make of the fact that the first song on the album that I kinda liked was a cover of a band that I range from apathetic toward to actively disliking ("Black Diamond" by Kiss). That's a weird experience. 2 stars.

Looove androgenous I've listened to a cover of that for years! Had no idea they sang that. Nothing crazy to say about this album, good tunes though

STANDOUTS: Androgynous OVERALL: 2/5

It's not terrible. It's not catchy either.

Ерунда слабослушабельня

An ok album

I think this is one of those you have to be around at the time sort of albums. On paper it should be just the sort of music that would absolutely appeal to me but all I could hear was just about average punk by numbers with none of the, insouciance of the original 1977 variety which I love.

We're Comin' Out bijvoorbeeld. Blijven jullie maar binnen...

Annoying vocals, just not good

Again like Bad Brains and Husker Du and Black Flag, they do have some good songs and you can see how influential they were but... it's just not very riveting. I can see the appeal at the time, it's honest and original guitar rock in a time of big hair and cheesey synths but. Dunno, my candle remains unlit.

A bit all over the place. instrumentally it was interesting, vocals were the weakest aspect. I enjoyed the cover of kiss’s black diamond though.

First track is great , but the rest is just ok . I actually prefer the bonus tracks, which weren’t really n the original release !

Yeah well, heard worse. It wasn't bad for what it was. I was quite surprised by the KISS cover, and they didn't make too much of a mess of it. Not enamoured of the vocals. Now this is going to sound contradictory, a quite liked 'Unsatisfied. It sounded like a Springsteen cover, so much so that I had to Google it to see if it was. Especially as it followed 'Black Diamond'. A solid mid to high 2 seems fair for this.

It is ok for what it is, which is the beginnings of punk-pop. Not listened to them since he late 80's. There must be a reason. 2

At first I was hating this and planning to give it 1 star for "actively bad". But it grew on me over the course of the album. Still wouldn't listen to it a second time as it's a bit noisy and screamy for my tastes

Meh, nothing bad, but nothing memorable or note worthy, either. This strikes me an another album that may have been included on the list less because of the music and more because of something it shifted in the industry. Or, you know, it's an awesome album for a lot of people and it just isn't my taste.

Quite an uneventful rock album

Unknown. Let’s go! 2 stars. I get why this this is impactful, but is it good? Song 1. Unremarkable rockabilly. Strange stereo imaging. Narrow Nice twidly solo 2 there’s the punk. I get how this is post punk. 3 drum beat I’ve always skipped 4 oh that beat again. Glad they moved on. And it’s back 5 androgynous lol 6 rock and or roll 7 yeah unsatisfied 8 instrumental? Yeah do that, that’s better. Wide echo on production, still narrow soundstage. It’s odd. Oh they’re singing. Still a decent song 9 punk meh 10 melodic it’s not bad so far 11 last song. Not bad intro. The lyrics overall are meh

Potential but a bit tinny

Too cool for me.

This album is super annoying to me. As someone who listens to alternative, I thought I would like it more, but I don't. 2/5

It has a lot of ingredients that I often like. Post-punky, crunchy and rocky. But beyond a couple of songs, the vocals really grated on me and the chaotic arrangements just don't land often enough. I don't really see myself wanting to come back to it.

I listened to this but it didn't leave much impression on me. It sounded like a local band from Portsmouth. It sounded like it should be on the soundtrack of Pretty in Pink or Sixteen Candles or some other John Hughes film. It didn't seem like it had any great tunes. I listened to their top five tracks on Spotify too and had no reaction. I dunno. I suppose if I were young at the time I could have been into it? I think this is basically saying "I guess you had to be there?" which is a variation of "The Whigfield Effect" but for things which aren't as demonstrably crap.

Didn’t really stand out for me….

I'd only ever heard of "The Replacements", it's good to now know some of their music. So much music that came after these guys sounds like these guys.

I was really disappointed with this. Was aware of the name Paul Westerberg back in the day but never listened before. Underwhelming

Loud just for the sake of being loud

I love the genre but I never got into The Replacements for some reason.

Never heard of this band before...don't plan to revisit them in the future. This was just...so...basic. I got bored. 2/5

You can hear the influence it has had but songs do t quite hit the mark. Pretty forgettable, sadly.

Sort of punk rock, not for me

Didn’t like the first piesves afterwards a bit better but not my style.

Honestly boring

Not really my thing.

Songs were ok, just not rememberable. My favorites were Black Diamond (Kiss cover) and Unsatisfied and Sixteen Blue.

I give them +1 for trying to transition from Punk Rock to Rock, but it missed the mark for me. Found myself hitting the skip button too many times to give it a higher rating. Fav songs: Black Diamond, Sixteen Blue Song that took 3 min to go nowhere and then became just annoying: Answering Machine.

The movie was better

The lyrics are entertaining. However, I’m not a fan of the electric guitar sounds.

A descent rock album.

Taas tätä samaa post punk new wave mitä lie mikä kuullostaa aina samalta. Ei oikein maistunut

I didn't get the hype, just okay to me.

This was a new one one me, didn't recognise the band. Album was alright, bit cringey in places. Third studio album and it still meant nothing to me.

Gear: Hifiman Arya Mix: ehrlich. okay. Musik: ehrlich. okay. Wertung: 2/5

Not my most favorite of albums. Kinda left me Unsatisfied and totally didn’t give me a boner. I liked Seen Your Video mostly because no one sang. Although there were some moments I felt like I was listening to a Tony Hawk song. Meh

Nah. Lots of noise. No hits.

Nothing overly gripping but I enjoyed it

Putting the MID in mid-80s

Some of this I liked, some of this not so much. The style wavered so much it didn't really work as an album, for me. The loud rock stuff especially put me very much in mind of Nirvana - not a recommendation. Eighties teen angst college radio rock that didn't really speak to me. One extra start for Angrogyny, a fun little time capsule, but I can't see myself playing this again.

Недопанк, перепопса

Oh great, some more heavily-punk-informed rock from the 80s. This is nothing to hold my attention or that would make me want to listen it again. Not horrible, just bland. 2/5

The vocals seem recessed within the canvas on the first track, “I Will Dare,” but the song structure was pleasantly poppy. The album lures you with ‘Dare’, then slaps you in the face with fast guitar and poorly recorded indynamic drumming punk style n “We’re coming Out”. Then the album slows back down and basically disappoints with poorly recorded screaming vocals on “Satisfied.” 1.9/5. Won’t relisten to this one.

Nothing really stood out

Uninspired

This sounds like a lot of other things, so I guess it must be influential. A nice mix of tempos and styles. The quieter, more introspective songs were my favourite. The vocal was much improved when the singer took his foot off the gas. Unfortunately the record is let down by a handful of weaker tracks, including the juvenile 'Gary's Got a Boner'. Rating: 2.5/5 Playlist track: Unsatisfied Date listened: 23/05/23

Ganska tråkigt och intetsägande.

Still trying to work out why it's on the list......

Decent punk/post punk album, good listen

OK - had wondered about these guys, mentioned a few times by different things that were interesting. Nothing leapt from the listen, a nice solo here and there, but not enough to earn a 'like' on Spotify

It's the kind of music that grows on you, but it hasn't grown on me much yet.

p522. 1984. 2 stars. Distinctly average US band that can't make their minds up on whether they want to be The Clash or The Jam, but unfortunately lack the talent to be either. Not essential listening.

Sounds like the precursor to 90s rock, such as bush. Fine but nothing to go crazy about. Sounds ok. Like a 2.5

Seems woke for the 80's but a bit boring soz. 2.5 stars rounded down to 2.

wasn't that much into what i think was punk back in the day. Thanks for sharing it though

A bit hit and miss, to my taste, only the hits aren’t that great either. But very happy to hear that a band like this was singing songs like “Androgyonous” way back in 1984.

I didn't really like this album. The music was fine, but I didn't enjoy the singing. The themes of the songs were cool, especially Androgynous, but everything else got in the way of me enjoying the album. Definitely not the album for me. 1.5/5 Favorite song: Black Diamond Worst song: Tommy Gets His Tonsils Out

Pah, whats this man?

not my style

I think the idea of "Androgynous" is really cool, especially for 1984, so it really sucks that I don't like it from a musical perspective. Actually, most of this album is full of "cool ideas" that just don't work on my ears, so I'll leave it at that - 2/5 not for me. Is this truly post-punk though? Seems like just regular punk to me.

thank you, next

Really sub par album.

semmoinen. kitaraa todellakin soitetaan... rumpali on yksi maailman rumpaleista! bassoa käytetään taustalla, ja vokalisti laulaa sanoja. 1980-luku näyttää taas kyntensä...viilattu...TYLSÄKSI. black diamond varmaan paras

Boner killer.

I should love this. I don't. Not sure why. Not punk enough anymore, and edging into an era of rock I'm all done with? I don't know. This bored me. Wild. Sorry!

Pas mémorable, mais juste assez bon pour garder intéressé.

To the band's credit, the mundane and uninspiring nature of this album is explained by the band's name. Yet another album that doesn't belong here.

These guys may have been cutting edge in the 80s, but by today's standards, this feels way behind the curve.

definitely nothing special -3 out of 5

Listened Before? N Ehhhh... this was okay. After reading the wikipedia entry for this album it seems the band decided to tone down their formerly punk sound into some slower songs. I was not a fan. The slower songs drone on, and sound like a million other 80s indie rock acts. The remaining punk songs saved the record, though. Added to Library? N Songs added to playlist: Favorite Thing

The Replacements – Let It Be Nice guitar in parts. Don’t really like vocals. Many tracks are repetitive. Some tracks e.g. Black Diamond have some genuine emotion and cool riffs. The softer/acoustic parts have some solid artistry. Also, Androgynous is non-binary love song from 1984, so that’s interesting, I guess. Decent variety of tone, themes, and musical style, but there’s not a lot I like. Top Tracks: - Black Diamond – Great riff and some genuine emotion. Only part I dislike is the anticlimactic end.

It's not so bad but the sound isn't perfect.

Average semi-punk, reminded me of Eddie & The Hot Rods. Not my scene, man.

It was okay.

Håpte da skulle falla i smak, men den gang ei

I have absolutely no memory of what kind of music this was. Listening to some of it again (to refresh my memory of yesterday's forgotten run through) I find myself wonder why it was included. It's fairly uninspired rock and roll. Bizarre.

This seems like a pretty typical alt/punk album. I'm not sure what makes it special, but I enjoyed most of it. This is the stuff I loved growing up, so my enjoyment of it was probably more nostalgia than anything.

nope. this is mediocre punk at best.

replace _this_

I know I've heard the Replacements before, but I don't know what. I like the Crash Test Dummies' cover of "Androgynous" and the version of that track on this album is good too. Some of the tracks were too noisy and musically incoherent. Most of the tracks were fighting to reach the okay level. I just don't think I can round up to 3 stars. I did not hate the album, but 8 out of 12 tracks got less than 3 stars.

I didn't really like it, though I do like their song Alex Chilton, from a different album.

Two punk albums in as many days. Pixies were better.

Listened to it and already forgot about it.

Nicely heartfelt singing. Melodic punky. Pretty rough and ready.

Un punk tranquillo, ascoltabile. Un po' piatto però

Not really a fan, but I try to be.

Was ok but different

did not like it.

Is it punk?

Good punk music with a little pinch of the 80's sound in it, but overall, a good album.

A great example of one of those albums that, at my age, I shrug and turn off halfway through. It's decent, but it ain't for me.

Interessante Mischung, verwirrt mich.

Didn’t vibe

Wish this one had stuck closer to the crude, punkier tracks that showed real instrumental and thematic verve. The intermingling of piano ballads and slower pieces just killed all momentum and cohesion of the LP as a whole.

Dull. Maybe I just wasn't in the mood for this one. 'Androgynous' is the most listened on this album and its just a generic 4 chord thing

Didn’t like very well

nie zo goe

maybe it was cooler at the time

Solid album, interesting to listen to but nothing to write home about

I think Nirvana owe them some money. Extra star for song title "Gary's got a boner"

Good songs but bad album, inconsistent

Nothing to write home about.

Not bad, sounds kind of like a post-The Police sound…very short and nothing stood out though

Handful of good songs. Not as spectacular as people make it out to be. First of these albums I’ve heard previously.

It was okay, nothing special in my opinion. 2/5 stars.

Much better punk groups exist than this.

Not super my type of music. I don't think it's bad, nor do I regret listening to it. But nothing really stuck with me.

lol theres a song called Gary's got a boner

Started off promisingly but failed to hold my attention. Not bad, but not great either. It just didn't resonate with me.

Not available on the music streaming platform I use.

Very Lane Kim angst.

Лучше чем meat is murder, бодрее гораздо, но все равно стайлак не в моем стиле так сказатб.

"I Will Dare" is brilliant, there are one or two others that are good. But I don't see what's meant to make it so good.

80s sound bit punky, no doubt influential for something but not something I will ever listen to

Saved Prior: None Saved Off Rip: I Will Dare Cutting Edge: Tommy Gets His Tonsils Out, Androgynous, Seen Your Video Overall Notes: I really did not like this one on first listen, but I saw the appeal on second listen. Would've given it a one for sure after first listen, got bumped up to a 2 after a couple more listens. I do like I Will Dare a lot though.

Some parts I enjoyed but punk never seems to strike a chord with me though I found this a less agonising punk album to listen to as it seemed to lean towards rock in areas. It was ok 2*

Hmm is a bit too loose and messy for my taste. Sloppy music.

Nee, ik word hier gewoon niet zo blij van.

Beetje te heftig om leuk te vinden

They were loved at CKCU and I even bought their 87 release so I could listen to Alex Chilton over and over. It’s good that at this time they were (slowly) getting away from a punk sound on this LP, since it was 1984. Androgynous is interesting and probably didn’t appeal to their core audience, but it’s a bit lame melodically and the lyrics lack wit, and if I put it on a list of piano ballads I know it’ll probably come in last. Black Diamond and Sixteen Blue are more melodic and lass grungy but I'm not so crazy about stuff like Gary’s Gotta Boner and How do you Say Goodnight to an Answering Machine.

eh, its alright. really long tho. ik its extended

I liked Seen your video the best, probably because it was mostly instrumental - good driving post punk music. The rest was not very exciting

Admittedly not all the time I put enough attention to these records, with this one I tried but to me seems quite irrelevant. Artistically speaking there is nothing to write home about but I guess they made a statement years ahead of their time, you go Replacements!

Forgettable

Fun listen, not bad

OK 2.5+ Liked the weird sound effects on final track ‘Answering Machine’ the best

I think these guys wanted to be British and about 8 years earlier. There are two decent songs here, Androgynous and Black Diamond. The rest of it is really quite annoying though, hence the low score. I couldn't wait for it to finish.

Paikoitellen ihan toimivaa, mutta saattaa johtua muuten niin sysipaskasta viikosta :D

Nothing special

It was okay.

Should have taken their own advice, there’s another album with that name already ya na?

1984: Androgynous, Unsatisfied, I Will Dare

Por ratos lo sentí desordenado con una energía bastante fuerte. Hay canciones peculiares, pero no fueron de mi gusto.

I found this quite dull

Not for me

it was very forgettable post punk
