His voice can be so cheesy at times, but it wasn't too bad on this album. Guitar work on display for sure. Still nothing that makes me really understand why he is so renowned. Good album though.
Good album
I still haven't got the Dylan bug and so a lot of this album washes over me. Lily, Rosemary and the Jack of Hearts (which is probably the least popular on the album) actually really caught me for some reason. Great storytelling as usual.
This was so fine. This is my third Bob Dylan album now and they’ve all just felt the same. I’m clearly not a Bob Dylan girlie but this was pleasant enough to listen to, although nothing really stood out for me.
Not a fan of Dylan, not much here for me.
For me this is not one of the best albums of Dylan. But still a nice one.
Dylan is great storyteller and lyricist. I enjoyed some songs on this album but for the album was too long and it became tedious to listen to at times. 3.5/5
Might have to edit this one in the future, but I think he’s had better bands in other albums but this is my first listen of this album and I’m gonna focus more on lyrics in later listens
Ele é legal mas não canta tão bem, mesmo que músicas tipo Shelter from the storm sejam boas, é uma letra interessante
its good, has some nice moments. also has moments where the harmonica tries to kill you
Pretty good
I always thought I’d struggle with this album due to its somewhat austere title and artwork. More fool me for judging a book by its cover - it was actually surprisingly accessible, in part down to some uncharacteristically simple lyrics (although the jury’s still out on this approach as I’m not entirely sure it suits him; I found myself scanning for irony or double-meanings where probably none existed). Anyway, I thought the album started strong but lost a bit of its lustre in the middle. There’s some good stuff on here as per, but not on par with Bob’s best. 3.5
Pretty good
I think I once liked this one quite a lot. Couple very good songs. Now I think it's fine. I might like Dylan less the more comfortable he sounds.
Good album, but not my favorite Dylan - I like much much later Dylan
Enjoyed this and will listen again
Quite enjoyable all things come sideted
A few I really enjoyed but overall just another Bob Dylan record. Not sure if any will ever live up to Desire for me
He is a beautiful lyricist and these songs are timeless. I wish I could get over his voice and let these tracks flood my heart but I’ve never been able to. It’s more a 3.5 but I think he’ll get more than his fare share of love elsewhere.
One of the least offensive Dylan albums I’ve heard so far, but it still doesn’t completely win me over. The songwriting is solid, and I can see why it’s so highly regarded, yet it just doesn’t resonate much with me.
For a Dylan album, I didn't hate this too much.
meh, I don't think I get bob dylan
Who's blood is on the tracks? Bobby has quite a rang of lyrics and song writing. And that harmonica sure can sing. Would I put this album on by choice, no. But it was enjoyable for a few songs. He looks like Gene Simmons in the album art.
Ok
bob dylan bob dylan STOP PUTTING HIS ALBUMS ON THIS LIST STOP IT STOP JUST STOP
Solo por girar mi vista otra vez hacia atras
Dobar album, razumijem zašto Lovro tako voli Bob Dylana, vv cool, no nije mi se sada nešto pretjerano svidio. Najbolja pjesma je “idiot wind”
greatest breakup album of all time? i might consider it! i'm familiar enough with this album that none of the songs were a first time listen but that didn't change the surprises from showing up! buckets of rain is probably my top aside from The Song from this album- I love when a guitar sounds like it's part of the conversation. liked: tangled up in blue, idiot wind, if you see her say hello, buckets of rain
Largely regarded as dylans most complete album. There are works of genius such as idiot wind, tangled up in blue and simple twist of fate. There is a bit of guff in here too towards the end of the piece. His voice deteriorated rapidly after this album as did the quality of his output.
Not really a big bob dylan fan, but I guess it's fine?
Favorite song was Idiot Wind
Not a very big fan of Bob Dylan - I'm not super into folk itself and also find his voice to be distractingly grating. That said, I liked this a lot more than I expected to. Feeling encouraged about the rest of his discog as a lot of it will likely appear in this 1001 challenge.
Some great songs, but I’m afraid Bob is just a little too whiney for me to really enjoy. I should love this, but I don’t (yet). Maybe it’s an acquired taste. I’m sure there are more albums to come from the generator.
This is good Dylan for me.
Great record. I like Dylan's tone and mood on this one as he sounds a bit more emphatic and committed to his statements. The music is easy to listen to Dylan's presence is felt throughout.
First impression
It was ok, it's Bob Dylan I guess
First half goes hard. I really liked Idiot Wind
poetry is his forte. the harmonica, not so much.
Great album from one of the masters
Tangled up in Blue: Quite catchy, could listen on a hot day road trip with the roof down and wind blowing in my hair. Can also picture it played in a bar with live music. A tiny bit monotone here and there but thats just Bob Dylan for ya. Also a little repetitive, would be better with some kind of bridge at least considering it's a whole 5 minutes long. I like the little instrumental at the end. Nice raw voice. OVERALL 5.8/10 Simple Twist of Fate: A little melancholy, his monotone voice suits this song. Makes me think of a rainy day, and tending a garden or farm on a rainy day, or just sitting in the kitchen reading with a cup of tea and watching raindrops race down a window. Powerful voice. I can also picture this in an indie kinda movie like Juno. OVERALL 6.5/10 You're a Big Girl Now: Nice guitar at the start, a little latino sounding, romantic. Catchy, less monotone which is good. I like it a lot. I'd have fun covering it. The "Ohhhh" drives me a bit nuts, and kind of ruins the song, but it's just his voice. I think this song should've been soft all the way throughout and not the loud "Ohhh". But it's still probably the best out of the 3 so far. Not a Bob Dylan song without a little harmonica at the end, and it always sounds great. He makes the harmonica sound almost like it's yearning and reminiscing. OVERALL 7/10 Idiot Wind: Not very catchy, but somehow still good. I heard a quote that "the better the singers voice is, the harder it is to believe what they're saying". If someone is singing is whiny and all over the place you really feel what they feel with more than just the words they are saying. I used to think he is too monotone and whiny for me but he genuinely expresses and conveys his feelings better than any musician. "Blowing like a circle around my skull" and it sounds like he literally sings it directly from his balls its that deep. Dylan is a genius. The more I listen the more I appreciate his music. The way he sings is like the way the poem Checking Out Me History is meant to be read. Honestly really great song and the lyrics are genius as always with Dylan. OVERALL 7/10 You're Gonna Make Me Lonesome When You Go: Very folky, again would be fun to cover. Sounds a little like George Harrison here for some reason, you can hear the influence he had on George. Guitar is peak, harmonica is peak, not sure what else to say. Great song. I enjoy the pacing, makes me feel like a cowgirl. Quite cute and the nature imagery makes me happy. Probably my favourite so far as it makes me happy. OVERALL 7/10 Meet Me in the Morning: Jammy and groovy, also makes me feel like im working on a farm. The raspiness in his voice is mint. Guitar(?) solo is great too, like it a lot. Slow pace but groovy I like it. OVERALL 7/10 Lily, Rosemary and the Jack of Hearts: Very folky again, lyrics are like a story which is one of my favourite things musicians do. Very long song, 8 minutes, which can get annoying but it's a pretty fun tune and the lyrics are fun to read along to. Wouldn't be so fun in concert, but it's a nice listen, it would be fun to play by a campfire probably. Also strangely catchy. I like it a lot actually. OVERALL 7.5/10 If You See Her, Say Hello: Gentle and soft opening guitar, again nice for tending a farm or something. Makes me a little sad actually, and his voice sounds great in this. I like this one quite a lot, probably the best so far. I could cry to this. Don't have much to complain about besides maybe the sound quality. OVERALL 8/10 Shelter from the Storm: Could've sang "shelter from the storm" a little differently, wasted potential there. But it is still a catchy, good song. Again I would listen to this on a rainy morning with some tea or coffee. I could listen while studying actually, it's very chill so it wouldnt distract me too much, but still interesting and relaxing and would put me in a calm and stress-free mood. OVERALL 6.8/10 Buckets of Rain: Another good song for studying. It's interesting and enjoyable but not too exciting to distract me. I quite like it, and the lyrics are cute. It's quite catchy as well. I like it. ALBUM: Really good album, liked it a lot. A lot of these songs I could listen to while studying or just on a chill gloomy autumn morning with rain in the background, sat by a candle and reading a book, or even working in a garden or farm when its a little chilly and muddy and rainy. Very folky which I like. His voice is starting to grow on me a lot more, I used to find it irritating but he genuinely has a way with it that makes sense and is actually pretty enjoyable. I think Idiot Wind was a bit of an odd one out but it was a good song nonetheless and doesn't necessarily ruin the album, but the album would be better without it. OVERALL 7/10
Nice enough listen, not sure how likely I am to go back to it but I wouldn't complain
For a boby Dylan album I enjoyed this. Was leaning towards a 4 but there were a few bits where I was a bit bored
I'm not a big Bob Dylan fan but this album is not bad. He actually sings a bit and I didn't mind it. The lyrics are really nice poetic verses. The music is pretty simple but it complements the vocals. Probably won't listen to this one very often but I could see myself putting it on if I was in the mood.
Tangled all in blue - 8/10 Simple twist of fate - 4/10 You're a big girl now - 6.5 Ta piosenka brzmi jak połączenie beatelsów i nmh Idiot wind - 5/10 You're gonna make me lonesome when you go - 4/10 Meet me in the morning - Lily, rosemary and the jack of hearts - If you see her, say hello - Shelter from the stone - 3/10 Buckets of rain - Nie przesluchalem calego ale mid
Dragged on a bit for me
Vibes but not my vibes
Not a huge Dylan fan. He is a master storyteller though.
I thought the songs were excellent. As for musical style and delivery, I was less impressed with bob Dylan’s singing. Will be interesting to get another album by him.
Not bad, pretty chill. Mindless?
Excellent songwriting and goofy-sounding Bob Dylan make for a good record. Favourite Track(s): You're Gonna Make Me Lonesome When You Go Least Favourite Track(s): If You See Her, Say Hello
Terrible singer. Wonderful poet.
something i will revisit 3.5 stars for now
Makes me want to go to the mountains and live off the land.
I’m not a huge Bob Dylan fan however this is a fairly solid album with a couple of timeless tracks.
bang average
It sounds a little bit dusty, but IT smells still Like Revolution
3/5
I say this every Dylan album, great poet, great song writer, tepid musician. Its much the same here as every other album, Tangled Up in Blue is a standout here, but its not enough to lift the rest.
I’ve figured it out. I like Bob Dylan as a songwriter but not as a performer. Okay Tangled Up in Blue is pretty good by him but otherwise I’ll take Miley Cyrus’s cover of “You’re gonna make me lonesome when you go” any day
boring
5/10 Top 3 tracks: 1. No Good 2. 3 Kilos 3. Voodoo People
Good songs, poor voice
"You're Gonna Make Me Lonesome When You Go" siiii porfin acabó la otra canción.
Bob Dylan sure knew how to write a song, they oughta give that feller an award or something for it. Shelter from the Storm has a special memory for me. Idiot Wind was fun too. Solid album.
Decent for Bob Dylan
is fine
70s Bob Dylan discography feels a little stale to me. Like he’s already done all of this stuff musically and now he’s just repackaging it with different stories. To be fair, it’s hard to match the peak of Bringing It All Back Home/Highway 61 Revisited/Blonde On Blonde. It just is!
It’s decent, but I just don’t get why people like his music so much
Not my all-time favourite Dylan album. Theres a couple I really like ie Shelter from the Storm
Dylan in his more polished, self-reflective version
I can see why people migght like his album but I personally don't like the vocals, I do like everything else though.
I like dis album! 7/10
Liked what I heard but I’ll admit it wasn’t my most attentive listen. I’ll have to circle back at some point
Iha jees. Hyvää taustamusaa vaikka baariin. Vähä alkaa ärsyttää tää soundi levyn loppupuolella.
I don't think I can. Alright. I'm tired. Maybe I can. Descending moaning vocals, interesting lyrics on occasion, some good organ. And he can tell a story, I'll admit. Not sure I'm a convert, but still, better than Morrissey, eh? Three-eeeeeeeeEEEEEEEeeeee stars.
Meh, si y no
nice
buckets of rain
Every Dylan album should have been required to come out with an accompanying cover album by people who can actually sing. We need to resurrected Otis Redding. Two stars off for the horrible sounds.
Not bad. Still not a fan though
One of those albums you really need to listen to, and not when you're also trying to work.
Really liked this!!! Even if I don’t love the song I’m always gonna eat up some Bob Dylan lyrics. This album in particular showcased a side of his songwriting that I wasn’t familiar with and sonically didn’t expect from him. Super creative writing that still retains simplicity. Fav Track: Tangled up in Blue
I don't like Blood on the Tracks as much as other fans of Bob Dylan. But the lore is strong. The story goes that Bob Dylan recorded an album's worth of songs in New York. The arrangements were sparse and simple. He played the album for his brother, who convinced him to re-record it with a full band. Half of the finished album ended up being from the original New York sessions. The other half was from the full band sessions in Minneapolis. Blood on the Tracks was released and became a fan favorite. Over the years, the original New York recordings trickled out on bootleg releases, Dylan's Biograph boxed set, his original Bootleg Series boxed set, and finally, the More Blood, More Tracks boxed set. I've never been a big fan of Blood on the Tracks as it was officially released. I think it's kind of a mid Bob Dylan release. But in true Dylan fashion, the outtakes from from the sessions are a minor revelation. I prefer the organic arrangements of the New York versions of these songs. And some of the songs that didn't end up on the album are as good or better than some of the songs that did make the cut. Check out Up to Me from Biograph. It's musically similar enough to Shelter From the Storm to understand why it wasn't selected for the official album. But it's a heck of a lot more personal, intimate and compelling than something like Lily, Rosemary and the Jack of Hearts. Unfortunately, on its own merits, I don't love Blood on the Tracks. I don't see it as the stone-cold-classic that it's regarded as. I think that makes me a bad Bob Dylan fan. For this period of Dylan's music, I'd much rather listen to the next years' Desire. And when I want my Blood on the Tracks fix, I reach for More Blood, More Tracks.
Undeniable what a talented lyricist he is. However, his music just doesn’t resonate with me. I always feel like I’m supposed to love his music, but it just doesn’t speak to me.
A very nice and chill album. His voice is way better than the other albums. The only “problem” for this album is the harmonica is so loud. Too loud. I had to turn the volume down a few times.
I’ll say I warmed up a little to Bobby D this album. I really enjoyed listening to ‘Lily, Rosemary, and the Jack of Hearts’ and also Shelter from the Storm. I would probably seek out those songs again, but the rest of the album I could do without
Voice is surprisingly a little better on this album especially since this was like his 17th album or whatever. But not surprisingly still just ok for me.
I have some major respect for Bob Dylan's song writing. He really is unmatched. However, as I've stated in the past, I prefer when other artists play his music.
Dylan’s songwriting is often great but Dave a few songs I don’t like him as a singer.
Alright already we get the fucking idea Bob Dylan made a lot of albums and he was a good songwriter. Genuinely if you have heard one of his albums you’ve heard them all as far as general tone is concerned. This list would be better if the authors limited themselves to like 3 albums max per artist they can’t all be that influential. This one had better mixing on the harmonica as I did not have to sleep with the fan on after listening to it.
I can't tell if this album is front-loaded or if I enjoy post-folk Dylan. Some really nice and inspired instrumentals here. Dylan as always is a great wordsmith but it did become grating at points (Lily, Rosemary and the Jack of Hearts this shit sucked). However, it got multiple listens out of me and I very much looked forward to listening to the tracks that I consider highlights. Props to the sound engineers for finding the perfect level for Dylan's harmonica. The light touches of electric guitar and keyboard here were great, as an album this was a little bit difficult to digest in one go and the first half is much stronger than the second. Overall, a solid listen but I will still be rolling my eyes next time I get a Dylan album on this project. Highlights: Tangled up in Blue, You're a Big Girl Now, Buckets of Rain
i don't have much to say... it's just an album. Bob Dylan doesn't excite me nor bores me - he just exists and i listen and think nothing. 3/5 because it's in the middle.
Bob Dylan, you are so highly regarded by musicians; however, you are just so average. There were some cool parts in the first few songs, but not my thing. Easiest 3 in my life.
I appreciate Bob Dylan more than I actively love the music. I would never turn it down, but I also wouldn't reach for it.
I like the lyrics he's a good storyteller. Not a huge fan of the harmonica
• There's something stupidly plaintive about Idiot Wind that speaks to me. • Shelter from the Storm... meh. • Hard to know if Dylan was repeating cliches or coining phrases.
Better than other dylan lps we've had on the list but I am still immune to Mr. Zimmermans appeal.
Rating 3.5 Notable songs: N/A I enjoyed the album. Bob dylan is the perfect dog walking artist. It was such a chilled out sexy vibe of an album
Enjoyed this more than I expected.
Liked it more than I expected to
Not my favourite of his. I understand it's all about the storytelling but Dylan's relationship woes aren't that interesting to me and my favourites Dylan songs have catchier vocal melodies and more memorable musical arrangements than this.
A solid album, and worth listening to, but not many great songs.
Not bad for Bob Dylan. High 3
It was decent. Dylan’s good, not great
Cool vibes and I can see why it's good but I couldn't really focus on it bc most of the songs sounded similar
Pretty good, seems like a Bob Dylan album to me haha. Nothing stood out to much but it was nice to listen to.
It's Bob Dylan. I get he's some sort of great songwriter and stuff, but his vocal performance is just so grating on nearly every song he sings. This is probably his best album so it'll get a passing grade from me, but my god, I can't understand why he's so popular. ~ 3 Stars The song that annoyed me the least was "Meet me in the Morning" so that'll make the 1001 playlist.
I can’t believe Timothée Chalamet made this album; he’s so talented! (I’m not serious)
3.0/this was fine
decent. 6.5/10
Off the cuff remark: it's Dylan I know it's Dylan but while it's undoubtedly great songwriting it doesn't blow my socks off. Standout track: Tangled Up In Blue Revisit?: Already listened twice Great lyric:"You're an idiot babe, it's a wonder that you still know how to breathe" (Idiot Wind)
It’s difficult to pass judgment on an album like this after only having listened to it a handful of times. Dylan has laid out a soundtrack to the disintegration of a long standing relationship that is so rich with personal experience that it demands patience to fully appreciate, and to perhaps come to relate to what he’s going through. There’s so much to unpack, but the themes of regret throughout the record are most prominent on my personal favourite ‘Simple Twist of Fate’. It’s a slow and contemplative album, but Dylan’s talent for storytelling is as strong as it ever has been here on tracks like ‘Jack of Hearts’ and ‘Tangled up in Blue’. I’d be happy to revisit this album to see if it hits differently after spending some time with it. For now I give it a high three stars ✨
Forgot headphones so listened on speaker at low volume which I feel isn't fair to this album. Will need to revisit later on but 3 for now as place holder
I can't stomach any more Dylan
Was okay 6/10
First time listening to Bob Dylan. Don't know why it took me this long.
I like some Bob Dylan but not a lot of Bob Dylan
73% Best: Tangled up in Blue; Idiot Wind; Meet Me in the Morning Must-Hear? No. This is my favorite Dylan album so far, though. Only 4 more! (oh god)
Maybe the circumstance that I listened to it while napping at the river helped, but I did enjoy it!! New songs only. 3,5/5
at 4.30 am tn i couldn’t sleep anymore and i thought “why not finish today’s album to kill time?” so i put on my airpod (my sister’s lost the other one) and listened to it: luckily for me it worked faster than any sleeping pill could have ever had grazie bob dylan 🙏🏼 3,5/5
Not his best, but I'm not a lyrics guy, so I'm not the best one to ask on this one. Still, I like the guy, so at least a 3
Good folk music and story telling. Another prime selection showing Dylan isn't as annoying as I originally thought him to be based off the few songs I heard prior to this 1001 project.
Olde timey blues brand Bob Dylan, it’s one of those albums where you wonder what everybody saw in it, and then remember it was 50 years ago.
good, i understand why people listen but not my cup of tea. i don’t like his voice but i appreciate the storytelling vibe of each song
It was like okay. I really liked the guitar. Some of the songs were so samey and just way too long . I did like a couple but just a bit of a bang average album in my humble opinion
One of the less known (for me) and not as good albums by Bob Dylan. It definitely features more instruments and is at times closer to rock then blues. But ultimately, it doesn't fit as well as one would have liked. This record is just too normal. Without his name on it, this album would be quickly forgotten, I assume. I'm forgetting it as we speak.
Think I would need to listen to this 5 more times before it clicks and I absorb the lyrics. Initial reaction is it's solid but not something I would seek out. 3/5.
Pretty solid album - never really liked Bob Dylan's voice for some reason. He's very nasally. But over time, it's become more charming. And the production is very solid.
never liked his voice. Shelter from the storm was my favorite
This is another one of those albums where if you like the artist, then it's enjoyable. However, if you find Dylan's nasally whiny wailing detestable, then you're not going to like it. Personally, I'm a bit impartial to Ol Bobby, so I found it enjoyable enough; a couple good songs, a couple songs that sound like alley cats in heat. I don't think I'd go seek it out on my own though.
3.5 stars -- folk/bluegrass is not my favorite genre but i did enjoy this album. it had good cohesiveness and a couple songs that really made me feel like i was back in Iowa in the early 2000s, when times just seemed so much easier. Added 2 songs to the playlist - Simple Twist of Fate & Lily, Rosemary and the Jack of Hearts
Honestly, I get a little tired of Bob Dylan's whining voice. When he hits, he hits. I just dont feel this record as much as everyone else does.
It's alright. Most of the songs sound the same. Stand out song - tangled up in blues
Recognized most of the songs from compilations but had never listened to this album. It personifies some of my favorite things and least favorite things about Bob Dylan. No new songs made an impression on me but I enjoyed the album overall.
It's fine? I don't know, I just don't connect with Bob Dylan, I'm weird like that.
Great writing, but the music--especially Dylan's voice--is not for me.
Bob Dylan Bob Dylaning
Not my favorite Dylan. I think tracks 1,2,6,9,10 are my favorites. The thing about the later Dylan albums that I don’t like as much as his early electric albums (that amusingly pissed off the folk purists) is the lack of dynamism. His writing is, for the most part, strong enough to carry the rather monotonous instrumentation but I found myself missing the energy from that electric period. What I appreciate is the world weariness that came in his age in regards to the stories he’s unspooling, I just yearn for the energy he had about 10 years prior. If you have an issue with his vocal performance, I have some words: You’re a big baby. Grow up. Open your mind up. And finally, skill issue on the listeners’ part.
Classic, unique. I appreciate the poetic lyrics. Nasal, gritty vocals. Somewhat grating.
Sounded like Bob Dylan. Nothing stood out but I didn't dislike it either.
Heard two songs from this album already prior to listening.
It was a nice album. Definitely better than a 2, but not quite a 4 in my book. But it was nice to listen to a full Bob Dylan album.
another classic dylan album.
Hey timothee
Likte det ganske godt. Fikk ikke gjort noe dypdykk. Derfor får det en ikke-bindende 3er
The Jester sure can strum a ballad; got a few more here off Blood On The Tracks. A guy in the dorm at UNH had the album, but the only songs that ever got played were Tangled Up In Blue and Jack of Hearts which were both too long for radio play at the time, so ya never heard them (unless you were down the hall at Alexander Hall.) I think the last time I heard JoH was at UNH, just forgot about it until this listen. And if Idiot Wind isn’t about his ex-wife I’ll be dag-nabbed. Enjoyed the album despite the whining. (2.65*s)
Emotional, poetic, and a contrast of both optimism and despair, it's the quintessential breakup album of the 70's. More personal and creative than previous Dylan sets, this one is really good. "Shelter from the Storm" is absolutely crushing it, "Jack of Hearts" is another great one here. Dylan is def an acquired taste and I've apparently acquired it. A more polished 2.70 for B-onthe-Ts.
Bobby D puts out a more sentimental album with "Blood on the Tracks" compared to his earlier freewheelin' days. "Tangled Up In Blue" is arguably his best track and starts this one off. The rest may not have made the hit list or best of albums but they are all pretty listenable. With the ocean of work Dylan has I have just dipped a toe in. I'll let the list provide me a sampling of his work and if there a few more like this one, I'll be good...2.65.
Jaime: no me gusta bob dylan ( necesita tener 50 años) Nuria: Soy una vieja me gusta Bob Dylan ( No necesita tener 50 años)
Enjoyed this more than I thought I would
Not my favorite Dylan album.
The 1001 has shown me that I like Bob Dylan, but I question how necessary this album was to include. Sure, I get the history - it was Dylan's comeback album so it might have "historic" significance, but it's not so different from his 60s writing to warrant including it. It didn't help that a few of the songs were a little on the long side (e.g., Idiot Wind, which got a little grating after a while, and Lily, Rosemary and the Jack of Hearts) and honestly I found most of Side 2 pretty boring (except Shelter from the Storm - nice track, good lyrics). It's a shame, too, because I really enjoyed the first few tracks, particularly Tangled Up in Blue and Simple Twist of Fate. On the one hand, I want to call it a 4 with the aim of digging deeper, but I'm ready to move on, which makes it a 3.
Shelter from the Storm is my favorite, but Tangled up in Blue was also very good
Okay I know I totally shat on the last Bob Dylan album, but this album was VERY enjoyable. I still don't think Bob Dylan is a great vocalist, but this album works overall. The songwriting is great and it is so fun. Most of this album being about his relationship with his estranged wife, Sara, is so impactful and you can tell in his voice. I'm gonna give it a 3 rounded down but it is actually a 3.5. Liked Songs: "Tangled up in Blue" , "Simple Twist of Fate" , "Idiot Wind' , "If You See Her, Say Hello" , "Shelter from the Storm"
Dylan has a very distinct sound- you know it's his voice and style right off the bat. A couple of hits on this album and a lot of nice songs overall. 3.5/5
Typischer Dylan-Sound. Mich hat es nicht vom Hocker gehauen. Zwar nichts, was stört, aber auch nichts was heraussticht. 3/5
I think the critics that contributed to these selections are the largest collection of Dylanites amassed in one space. But about the album. Not bad. :)
This is the fourth Bob Dylan album that has been generated and I still firmly cannot grasp how this man became regarded as one of the greats. This album wasn't as bad as some others, but good lord, there is nothing special about any of it. Just sounds like some bozo telling stories with a guitar. Not unlistenable, but not amazing in any way.
If you played a clip of Bob singing the words "Idiot Wind" and asked me to tell you what he was saying I would never in a million years guess correctly.
Better than the previous Bob Dylan album I listened to
I'm beginning to dread receiving Bob Dylan albums, and there's still 𝗙𝗢𝗨𝗥 more I've yet to receive! That being said, "Blood On The Tracks" was surprisingly easy to listen to. I think I've began to appreciate Bob Dylan's music more since watching "A Complete Unknown" biopic. Nonetheless, I still think Dylan's a sleazy asshole. His guitar's super jingle-jangly, which is desired. Dylan's vocals are not the greatest though. He sounds like AC/DC's Brian Johnson on "Dirty Deeds Done Dirt Cheap." That was not complimentary. Akin to Nick Drake, while I can fathom Bob Dylan's talent, I simply don't enjoy his music generally speaking.
While it's not my favorite Bob Dylan album, it was still an enjoyable listen. There were really no standout songs, which is why I went with a 3 instead of a 4. I prefer it when the songs are more him "singing" than just straight up talking, but this one had some cute moments.
First song was turned up for a jam, a few others have good writing and good music but I’m not a big fan of his singing style.
Didn't listen.
Not to sound ignorant- this is the first Bob Dylan n album that I didn’t just listen to listen and ignore because of his agitating voice. This was different- not only was it tolerable but I recognized the impact of his lyrics and I highly respect. I believe I would listen to this again.
Eh I guess I have to get this out of the way for myself AGAIN (7 Dylan albums maybe?) and probably write much of the same reaction/review: I don't dislike nor like Dylan, and in particular I really have no problem with his vocals at all - at times I might even like them - it's true and authentic. It's just that his music often doesn't do much of anything. I appreciate peoples' opinions on him and dissecting his poetry, his storytelling, etc. It's just not how I make an emotional connection to music. Great that he's writing deep love songs or whatever but *I just don't care*. I don't need or want dance music, nor quick/short little pop songs - I certainly have a long attention-span for music, but not really one for most simply-constructed music. Writing all this makes it sound like I hate this, which ... I categorically don't. I'll say that this is one of the more-accessible records of his for me, almost in a mid-70s Gord Lightfoot vein but I'll still take Gord (e.g. Summertime Dream) any and every day over Dylan simply because I like his music better. I can semi-enjoy most of the first half (side) but I think my limit is around 20 minutes - the album does grow a bit tiresome, especially when getting to the nearly 9 MINUTE track on side 2. I saw the running time and was counting on 70s Bob to gonna incorporate a mellotron and a long spacey prog intro but .... nope: just 9 minutes of a country-blues 3 chord snooze-fest. Plus it's not like Bob is singing about a sunken Great Lakes freighter or anything interesting, come on... 5/10 3 stars. I'll gladly take ~4 or 5 cuts max and cut the rest.

Good stuff if you like the BD sound.
THINKIN: An album told from a second-person perspective. The "you"s of the album's first half are sharp, accusatory, which then mellow into the soften dialogue or whimsy of the back half. PERSONALLY: I love Bobbie, I like this album a whole lot, maybe not as magical as others find it, the echo on Simple Twist of Fate is powerful stuff. ALT TITLE: Replaying the Past
I didn't hate this as much as I thought I would. That voice tho 😑
Equal parts awesome: Tangled Up in Blue, Shelter from the Storm Pretty OK: Simple Twist And irritating: the rest
Solid Dylan. Not especially distinctive or outstanding, but definitely a good listen. I love Dylan, so going deeper into his catalog is a treat.
Dylan's best performance post voice shift. I have a hard time giving any of his albums a 3, this one I will give in. Top 10 song writer, bottom 10 vocalist.
Shelter from the Storm is a great song but overall this isn’t my favorite Bob record. I generally enjoy the earlier stuff. 3.8 stars, almost a four.
Voice sounds a lot different to 60’s, not as good as freewheelin but still good
Mid
Oh Bob. I try. I really try. But just can't get there. Great album from its simple folky guitar and harp, etc. and amazing lyrics of course, he was a writer, that we all know. But musically the voice I struggle with after a while and just want more. But music is great and lyrics great and song writing is great. Just never been a massive fan of his voice. Highlights were probably Shelter from the Storm which I have always liked and a couple others, Buckets of Rain was solid.
I enjoyed listening to this album honestly. While I’ve never listened to Bob Dylan too much, I am a fan of folk music and I enjoy listening to where a lot of that sound has been influenced from.
Bob Dylan can use a song to tell a story as good as anyone. I tend to like that style of music as well with the likes of Jim Croce and (kind of) John Denver but while I enjoy that style of music, Dylan voice has never done it for me. Just personal preference, but I enjoyed the songs and the music, just sort of wish they were sung by someone else. That might be a hot take but we’re keeping it real out here.
First listen - surprised how little I know, rhythmic
I was surprised for a bit, Tangled Up in Blue might be the best song I’ve heard by Bob Dylan. I thought i finally saw what people see in him but the rest of the album was the 3/5 Bob Dylan that I know. But a spark! Still!
I really liked the first track, but the rest of the album didn't reach those heights for me. The vocals on this one bothered me less than Dylan albums usually do; not sure if I'm just getting used to them or if this was a little less Dylan-y than his earlier stuff. Ultimately this falls in the good-not-great bucket for me, just short of a 4. 3.4
Folk. Not bad but a lot of the songs blended together. Some standouts though.
o zé ramalho deles
Decent Bob Dylan and certainly merits inclusion on this list.
Beste sanger: Idiot Winds og Lily, Rosemary and the Jack of Hearts
It's fine. Maybe I'm just not a lyrics guy. Or a Dylan guy.
I can’t stand Bob Dylan lol. Absolutely personal preference. It’s fine but wouldn’t listen again
Original og perfekt indie
One of my favorite memories from high school is the time I, freshly dumped, solicited my AP Lang teacher for breakup-music recommendations, and he came into class the next day with his own CD copies of two The Cure albums and Blood On The Tracks for me to borrow. It has always been hilarious to me to remember myself, 17, crying over the dissolution of my month-long long-distance relationship with my Tumblr mutual, grasping for straws for kinship with Dylan's tender divorcee donkey-braying. At 29 I have yet to fully get the appeal, but "Shelter from the Storm" is a lovely song at least.
Never been a fan of Dylans voice but this is not too bad.
Classic Dylan
it's ok i liked it and i respect it but it didnt really leave me wanting to go back to it, idiot wind is pretty good and i like lily rosemary and the jack of hearts because its got big jim and lily which is so crazy because i am big jim and lily is lily
Pretty good Dylan for me. Not a huge fan but this is close to as good as it gets for me. 3.5
i despise this album. to be clear, i absolutely hate it. there is nothing worse than this music. in the world there is nothing worse
Some long and repetitive songs on this album, and they kind of all sound the same. Never been a big Dylan fan, but there are a few songs that I enjoyed.
Pretty nice-sounding cozy folk songs; however, the harmonica parts are a little loud.
I recognize that this is entirely a "Me" problem but I have such trouble connecting with Bob Dylan's music because I'm not a "lyric getter" unless I actively follow along with them in front of my while listening. Because his writing is so intricate, it is impossible for me to follow along with any song unless I listen to it 5, 6, or 7 times at least. With some, this is not a problem because they are so beautiful that I'm willing to do that. But, most of his work, most of this album, do not hold my attention like that. This time, I did read every lyric as I listened to this album. As expected, it was incredible. But, I do not want that to be the way I can enjoy an album. Nothing against Bob, his acclaim is well-earned. Just is not for me.
Not too shabby. Better for background music.
His strumming style annoys me. Tangled Up In Blue was by far the best track; the rest: meh.
I've never been a fan of Dylan's work, but I also haven't invested the time to really listen to the lyrics. I'm sure there is a lot of depth there, but the tunes and his voice just aren't good enough to hold my attention that long.
I'm over 660 albums into this project, and this will only be my second Bob Dylan album to review, after Time Out Of Mind, which I really didn't care for (2 stars). Heading into this project, I'd only listened to Highway 61 Revisited and Blonde on Blonde, so I've never listened to this album before, but I do know "Tangled Up in Blue," thanks to the Rock Band video game. Dylan's music can be pretty hit or miss with me, so I'm not quite sure where this will land. I guess there's only one way to find out! Blood on the Tracks was fine, which was a little disappointing to me, since this album seems to be really well received. Musically, I thought it was great, but I didn't care for Dylan's vocals on this particular album. The guitar playing was great throughout the album, with "Tangled Up in Blue" representing my favorite guitar playing on the album. I really loved the organ playing too, as it reminded me more of Dylan's earlier work that I enjoy. The songwriting was great too, and I liked how vulnerable Dylan was about this particularly tumultuous time in his life. I know he says this album isn't autobiographical, but come on, man, it's pretty obvious that this album was pretty much all about the dissolving relationship with his wife at the time. Dylan expresses his heartache in so many different ways, and I enjoyed all the different figurative language he used throughout the album. Dylan really excelled at painting visual pictures with his words on this album, despite all of the figurative language, and I think that really shows off his skills as a songwriter. I mentioned it briefly before, but I really didn't like the shift away from Dylan's nasal singing on his earlier work. However, the rhythm of his vocal delivery was typical to what I'm used to, which I always enjoy. Additionally, some of the songs on this album were really long, and I found myself getting pretty bored with them. This album was fine, but I can't see myself seeking it out again.
3.5 I enjoyed it as relaxing music in the background.
I'm in the camp that can't deal with the voice and the delivery. My husband is the Bob fan. He tells me that, objectively, this one might be the best. So I really listened hard and yes, the songs are good. So are the words. I'd prefer them to be sung by someone else though. Who doesn't have a mouth organ. I'm sorry, genuinely, that Bob just isn't for me. But his voice sets my teeth on edge.
This album brings the countryside love and joy with it. The way the character explores love, life and learns different aspects of it effortlessly.
Bob Dylan has never done much for me. Maybe I'm missing something, but his lyrics don't speak to me and one certainly doesn't listen to him for his vocals. He's fine, but I prefer him in a one or two song dose rather than sitting through a whole album.
Good, a bit slow for me
I don't really know what to say about this. It was decent, but I can't really think of any tracks that were standout enough to bring this up to a four-star album for me.
fine, heard better bob
Parhaat: Simple Twist of Fate, Buckets of Rain
No denying Tangled Up In Blue is a great song. The rest of the album is Ok at best. This is Dylan's divorce album no matter how much he denies it. Some songs run too long. With his voice that's a drawback. It did influence artists l like including Public Enemy who quoted lyrics from this in later albums. So I'll give it a passing grade.
What with this list giving me a new found respect for Mr Dylan, I was looking forward to listening to this. It kinda delivered, there are some really good tracks on here, but also some which just felt a bit flat and long. No doubt he is a lyrical genius mind, I don’t naturally listen to lyrics much, he’s one of the few artists where I just find myself doing so.
It's okay but a bit forgettable
Tangled up in blue is very good. The rest I'm ok with Will I listen to again: 30%
It’s amazing how much PERCUSSION can help music. This took Bob Dylan’s music from coming across as pretty aimless and wishy-washy to something with some drive and intent. The opening track is probably my favourite song from Bob so far, and the overall more limited (although still present) harmonica across the album was appreciated. Vocals were a bit better, but I think it is only because they received more of a touch-up than in other records. Better, but still not remarkable.
Again wish there were half stars as would give 3.5 but since it didn’t earn 4 for me it is a 3. As much as you hear Dylan influence in future music and his legendary status this album has some filler IMHO. It does have one of my all time favourite Dylan tunes Shelter from the Storm. Right up there with girl from the north country.
Not a huge Dylan fan, but this album was pretty good
Entspannend
I could barely make it through this album and I can't stand his voice but at least I liked Shelter from the Storm
Like the old saying goes, one awesome opening track doth not an awesome album make...
I feel my tolerance for harmonica decrease with every Bob Dylan album.
It is a very weak 3 star...How the fuck anybody can admire this man...It is fucking boring and all songs are quite the same.
Pretty good, songs like idiot wind and if you see her say hello are cool
I mean, I've never liked Dylan's voice too much. But these are perfectly nice. I like the slice-of-life stuff.
3.8. Good old Bobby
3 - Dylan is definitely not appealing to me
3/5. Not a Bob Dylan fan. Shelter from the Storm - 5/5.
I am not too overtly familiar with Bob Dylan’s whole catalogue, but I listen to Blonde on Blonde and Freewheelin’ quite a lot, and this album just didn’t do it for me like they do! Don’t get me wrong there are some killer tracks, i particularly liked Tangled up in Blue, and Shelter from the Storm but it didn’t capture my attention the way that Dylan’s classics do. Would I revisit as a whole ? Probably not, but I wouldn’t be mad to hear it in full again. I’d rate a solid 3.5, but 4 seems too high based on my rating system and 3 too low. But I’ll round down for this one. Maybe it’ll grow on me….wish I could revisit my ratings!!
Don’t love Dylan’s voice, but the lyrics are beautiful.
I've got a lot of time for ol' Robert, but having had 4 of his albums on this list now I feel like finding unique reasons to enjoy them is only becoming more difficult. He definitely found his sound, and it's remarkable that his 15th album is so listenable, I just wish it were more distinct.
An enjoyable listen. Liked the storytelling vibe of the lyrics, each song felt like a journey. No track really stood out to me as one I'd like to re-listen to but overall pretty good.
I like this one a lot more than Blonde on Blonde. Tangled Up in Blue and Shelter from the Storm stood out to me.
I don’t love Bob Dylan, but this is one of his best works
Was enjoyable with its meandering wayward winging ballads
7/10
As always, Bob Dylan is an incredible songwriter. Fueled by personal heart ache, he paints a vivid picture of vulnerability and conflict. His son said that the album sounded like his parents talking, which must hit hard given their separation. Musically, I don't think it's strongest album. Half of it was re-recorded following the urging of Dylan's brother. It has some great songs from both the New York and Minneapolis sessions, including some of his best. 'Tangled Up in Blue' is one highlight for me, as is 'Shelter From the Storm', which recalls his early work. I really like 'Buckets of Rain' for reasons I can't describe. Overall though, the music isn't as strong as other albums. It's carried mainly by the power and poetry of the lyrics.
# Album Name: Blood on the tracks # Artist: Bob Dylan # Rating: 3/5 # Comments: For some reason ive never gravitated towards dylans music. Theres the odd track here and there but ive never sought out his back catalogue. Seems to be hit and miss with me. What a start to this album with "Tangled up in blue". Great track. The rest of the album couldnt live up to the opener. I did enjoy idiot wind and Meet me in the morning. # Top Tunes: Tangled up in blue. # Would I listen to it again? Ive added a couple of tracks to my playlist. I'd probably stick it on again. Most would be background music.
This style of Bob Dylan is too folky for me. Sorry, but I'm not a fan. It's fine for background music, though.
Tangled Up in Blue is incredible. The rest of the album reminded me why I'm a distant admirer rather than a fan of Bob Dylan. The vocals are an acquired taste. I feel like I like Bob Dylan in spite of the singing, not because of it. The lyrics however are really inspired. My suggestion is to have them available when you listen to this album. It really helps your enjoyment. Favorite songs: Tangled Up in Blue, Shelter from the Storm, Idiot Wind, Lily, Rosemary and the Jack of Hearts 3.5⭐️
Alot better than the last Dylan album on this list. Not so much rambling
Not his best album but far from his worst. 3 seems about right.
I can't bear too much Bob Dylan at once, but if I had to, I would pick this album, it was good and almost not annoying. 3.5 stars. Stand-out: Idiot Wind
Don’t tell the other English majors, but I was never into Bob Dylan as a young person. I’ve come to appreciate him more as I’ve gotten older, but this album showcases some of the things that have always pushed me away from him. Nine minute songs with no variation. Arbitrary harmonica. That voice. Still, I’d rather live in a world where Dylan has had such a profound influence than one where he never existed.
The album is fine as background, but no tracks stood out after a couple of listens. Not sure why this album is regarded so highly.
Bob Dylan just isn’t for me. Couldn’t wait for this to be over
Bueno
Não curto muito Dylan. Álbum ok.
As much as Ive tried amd Ive listened to all hos discography I just dont like Dylan. He can write yes, can he sing hell no he sounds like a chipmunck being castrated when hebtries to hit the high notes he shouldnt be even trying. Good songs overall, original sound, great lyrics but foll aint my type of music and I find songs to be too similar to each other. If it werent for John Prine he would be the worse. I really feel and like much more paul simon yet I cant stand him.
It's Bob Dylan and exactly what you would expect. Bob is Bobbin'
A little more country which was decent.
It's aight I guess
Blood on the tracks is from me. I was hit by the train that is this album. Just jokes, or maybe not?
Just one listen. Love the story telling but ultimately not enthusiastic about it
A solid listen from Bob. Some classics on here, but overall conventional. 3/5
I never liked the way he is singing, but I always admired his songwriting. It's a good album.
Dylan halt.
nice, but not really my thing.
This is probably the best Dylan album I've heard yet. Harmonica is not as prominent and not obnoxiously loud and the storytelling is good. I would have given it a 4 if it wasn't for YEEEEEEEEEDIOT WIND Standout: Tangled Up In Blue
A good country time. Favourite Track: Simple Twist of Fate
Pretty good for Dylan, still not my thing.
Liked some more than others, enjoyed the lyrics but not managed to get into the talking style or the irregularity yet. Best ones were you’re a big girl now and lily, rosemary and the Jack of hearts
This is what I think of when someone mentions Bob Dylan….classic, but not my fave.
I know that Bob Dylan was amazing back in the day, especially given that this was released in 1975, which is a year after AC/DC showed up, but nowadays I feel like I can't give his albums more than a 3. I enjoyed having this in the background but that's all.
This was better than the other Dylan album I listened to, but I still can't get past the vocals.
This was okay. Not something I really get into.
After giving 'The Freewheelin' Bob Dylan' another listen, I feel very confident marking this one as good, but the lesser of the two. Great lyrics, as per usual, but I couldn't quite connect with it as well as I did with Freewheelin'.
Pretty good. Catchy at times. Although didn’t grab me like his other work (Basement Tapes is my favorite album of his).
I liked 60% of this album which is more than I thought I would. I guess good music will always shine through in any genre, even if you’re not a fan of it.
Enjoyable, the 1st track was my favourite
Impossible to be mad at this
I bet I would like Bob Dylan’s songs more if someone else were singing them. But I actually did enjoy this album more than the last one I got here.
good
Alright
One of the guys I used to work with listen to Bob Dylan all the time. This was ok.
Bob Dylan is always good/easy listening.
The top song is one of my favorites of all time. The rest is ok.
#269. Dylan made some unquestionably fantastic music in the 60s, but this was truly the tail end of any of that. For reasons unknown to man, he's still out there making music to this day, but it's terrible, and has been terrible since the late 70s. Albums like this one may still have a song or two to enjoy still, but it's clear that he's run out of whatever magic he had a decade before. 3/5: still ok, I guess
Difficult album. Obviously packed with crazy good songs but also not really too exciting throughout.
I don't remember what I thought, probably quite liked it
None of the big hitters, but there are glimpses of genius, and at times his singing is classically beautiful.
Not my favorite Dylan album, but still Dylan. I'm giving a three as I'm not focusing on lyrics for this project.
