Reviews (page 10 of 13)

It's fine? I don't know, I just don't connect with Bob Dylan, I'm weird like that.

Great writing, but the music--especially Dylan's voice--is not for me.

Bob Dylan Bob Dylaning

Not my favorite Dylan. I think tracks 1,2,6,9,10 are my favorites. The thing about the later Dylan albums that I don’t like as much as his early electric albums (that amusingly pissed off the folk purists) is the lack of dynamism. His writing is, for the most part, strong enough to carry the rather monotonous instrumentation but I found myself missing the energy from that electric period. What I appreciate is the world weariness that came in his age in regards to the stories he’s unspooling, I just yearn for the energy he had about 10 years prior. If you have an issue with his vocal performance, I have some words: You’re a big baby. Grow up. Open your mind up. And finally, skill issue on the listeners’ part.

Classic, unique. I appreciate the poetic lyrics. Nasal, gritty vocals. Somewhat grating.

Sounded like Bob Dylan. Nothing stood out but I didn't dislike it either.

Heard two songs from this album already prior to listening.

It was a nice album. Definitely better than a 2, but not quite a 4 in my book. But it was nice to listen to a full Bob Dylan album.

another classic dylan album.

Hey timothee

Likte det ganske godt. Fikk ikke gjort noe dypdykk. Derfor får det en ikke-bindende 3er

The Jester sure can strum a ballad; got a few more here off Blood On The Tracks. A guy in the dorm at UNH had the album, but the only songs that ever got played were Tangled Up In Blue and Jack of Hearts which were both too long for radio play at the time, so ya never heard them (unless you were down the hall at Alexander Hall.) I think the last time I heard JoH was at UNH, just forgot about it until this listen. And if Idiot Wind isn’t about his ex-wife I’ll be dag-nabbed. Enjoyed the album despite the whining. (2.65*s)

Emotional, poetic, and a contrast of both optimism and despair, it's the quintessential breakup album of the 70's. More personal and creative than previous Dylan sets, this one is really good. "Shelter from the Storm" is absolutely crushing it, "Jack of Hearts" is another great one here. Dylan is def an acquired taste and I've apparently acquired it. A more polished 2.70 for B-onthe-Ts.

Bobby D puts out a more sentimental album with "Blood on the Tracks" compared to his earlier freewheelin' days. "Tangled Up In Blue" is arguably his best track and starts this one off. The rest may not have made the hit list or best of albums but they are all pretty listenable. With the ocean of work Dylan has I have just dipped a toe in. I'll let the list provide me a sampling of his work and if there a few more like this one, I'll be good...2.65.

Jaime: no me gusta bob dylan ( necesita tener 50 años) Nuria: Soy una vieja me gusta Bob Dylan ( No necesita tener 50 años)

Enjoyed this more than I thought I would

Not my favorite Dylan album.

The 1001 has shown me that I like Bob Dylan, but I question how necessary this album was to include. Sure, I get the history - it was Dylan's comeback album so it might have "historic" significance, but it's not so different from his 60s writing to warrant including it. It didn't help that a few of the songs were a little on the long side (e.g., Idiot Wind, which got a little grating after a while, and Lily, Rosemary and the Jack of Hearts) and honestly I found most of Side 2 pretty boring (except Shelter from the Storm - nice track, good lyrics). It's a shame, too, because I really enjoyed the first few tracks, particularly Tangled Up in Blue and Simple Twist of Fate. On the one hand, I want to call it a 4 with the aim of digging deeper, but I'm ready to move on, which makes it a 3.

Shelter from the Storm is my favorite, but Tangled up in Blue was also very good

Okay I know I totally shat on the last Bob Dylan album, but this album was VERY enjoyable. I still don't think Bob Dylan is a great vocalist, but this album works overall. The songwriting is great and it is so fun. Most of this album being about his relationship with his estranged wife, Sara, is so impactful and you can tell in his voice. I'm gonna give it a 3 rounded down but it is actually a 3.5. Liked Songs: "Tangled up in Blue" , "Simple Twist of Fate" , "Idiot Wind' , "If You See Her, Say Hello" , "Shelter from the Storm"

Dylan has a very distinct sound- you know it's his voice and style right off the bat. A couple of hits on this album and a lot of nice songs overall. 3.5/5

Typischer Dylan-Sound. Mich hat es nicht vom Hocker gehauen. Zwar nichts, was stört, aber auch nichts was heraussticht. 3/5

I think the critics that contributed to these selections are the largest collection of Dylanites amassed in one space. But about the album. Not bad. :)

This is the fourth Bob Dylan album that has been generated and I still firmly cannot grasp how this man became regarded as one of the greats. This album wasn't as bad as some others, but good lord, there is nothing special about any of it. Just sounds like some bozo telling stories with a guitar. Not unlistenable, but not amazing in any way.

If you played a clip of Bob singing the words "Idiot Wind" and asked me to tell you what he was saying I would never in a million years guess correctly.

Better than the previous Bob Dylan album I listened to

нещо на фон го пуснах ,беше добре, ама не ме грабна. някой път и повече шанс ще му дам

I'm beginning to dread receiving Bob Dylan albums, and there's still 𝗙𝗢𝗨𝗥 more I've yet to receive! That being said, "Blood On The Tracks" was surprisingly easy to listen to. I think I've began to appreciate Bob Dylan's music more since watching "A Complete Unknown" biopic. Nonetheless, I still think Dylan's a sleazy asshole. His guitar's super jingle-jangly, which is desired. Dylan's vocals are not the greatest though. He sounds like AC/DC's Brian Johnson on "Dirty Deeds Done Dirt Cheap." That was not complimentary. Akin to Nick Drake, while I can fathom Bob Dylan's talent, I simply don't enjoy his music generally speaking.

While it's not my favorite Bob Dylan album, it was still an enjoyable listen. There were really no standout songs, which is why I went with a 3 instead of a 4. I prefer it when the songs are more him "singing" than just straight up talking, but this one had some cute moments.

First song was turned up for a jam, a few others have good writing and good music but I’m not a big fan of his singing style.

Didn't listen.

Bob Dylan gefällt aber wirkt auch etwas gleichförmig.

Not to sound ignorant- this is the first Bob Dylan n album that I didn’t just listen to listen and ignore because of his agitating voice. This was different- not only was it tolerable but I recognized the impact of his lyrics and I highly respect. I believe I would listen to this again.

Eh I guess I have to get this out of the way for myself AGAIN (7 Dylan albums maybe?) and probably write much of the same reaction/review: I don't dislike nor like Dylan, and in particular I really have no problem with his vocals at all - at times I might even like them - it's true and authentic. It's just that his music often doesn't do much of anything. I appreciate peoples' opinions on him and dissecting his poetry, his storytelling, etc. It's just not how I make an emotional connection to music. Great that he's writing deep love songs or whatever but *I just don't care*. I don't need or want dance music, nor quick/short little pop songs - I certainly have a long attention-span for music, but not really one for most simply-constructed music. Writing all this makes it sound like I hate this, which ... I categorically don't. I'll say that this is one of the more-accessible records of his for me, almost in a mid-70s Gord Lightfoot vein but I'll still take Gord (e.g. Summertime Dream) any and every day over Dylan simply because I like his music better. I can semi-enjoy most of the first half (side) but I think my limit is around 20 minutes - the album does grow a bit tiresome, especially when getting to the nearly 9 MINUTE track on side 2. I saw the running time and was counting on 70s Bob to gonna incorporate a mellotron and a long spacey prog intro but .... nope: just 9 minutes of a country-blues 3 chord snooze-fest. Plus it's not like Bob is singing about a sunken Great Lakes freighter or anything interesting, come on... 5/10 3 stars. I'll gladly take ~4 or 5 cuts max and cut the rest.

Entspannend

Good stuff if you like the BD sound.

THINKIN: An album told from a second-person perspective. The "you"s of the album's first half are sharp, accusatory, which then mellow into the soften dialogue or whimsy of the back half. PERSONALLY: I love Bobbie, I like this album a whole lot, maybe not as magical as others find it, the echo on Simple Twist of Fate is powerful stuff. ALT TITLE: Replaying the Past

I didn't hate this as much as I thought I would. That voice tho 😑

Equal parts awesome: Tangled Up in Blue, Shelter from the Storm Pretty OK: Simple Twist And irritating: the rest

Solid Dylan. Not especially distinctive or outstanding, but definitely a good listen. I love Dylan, so going deeper into his catalog is a treat.

Dylan's best performance post voice shift. I have a hard time giving any of his albums a 3, this one I will give in. Top 10 song writer, bottom 10 vocalist.

Shelter from the Storm is a great song but overall this isn’t my favorite Bob record. I generally enjoy the earlier stuff. 3.8 stars, almost a four.

Voice sounds a lot different to 60’s, not as good as freewheelin but still good

Oh Bob. I try. I really try. But just can't get there. Great album from its simple folky guitar and harp, etc. and amazing lyrics of course, he was a writer, that we all know. But musically the voice I struggle with after a while and just want more. But music is great and lyrics great and song writing is great. Just never been a massive fan of his voice. Highlights were probably Shelter from the Storm which I have always liked and a couple others, Buckets of Rain was solid.

I enjoyed listening to this album honestly. While I’ve never listened to Bob Dylan too much, I am a fan of folk music and I enjoy listening to where a lot of that sound has been influenced from.

Bob Dylan can use a song to tell a story as good as anyone. I tend to like that style of music as well with the likes of Jim Croce and (kind of) John Denver but while I enjoy that style of music, Dylan voice has never done it for me. Just personal preference, but I enjoyed the songs and the music, just sort of wish they were sung by someone else. That might be a hot take but we’re keeping it real out here.

First listen - surprised how little I know, rhythmic

I was surprised for a bit, Tangled Up in Blue might be the best song I’ve heard by Bob Dylan. I thought i finally saw what people see in him but the rest of the album was the 3/5 Bob Dylan that I know. But a spark! Still!

I really liked the first track, but the rest of the album didn't reach those heights for me. The vocals on this one bothered me less than Dylan albums usually do; not sure if I'm just getting used to them or if this was a little less Dylan-y than his earlier stuff. Ultimately this falls in the good-not-great bucket for me, just short of a 4. 3.4

Folk. Not bad but a lot of the songs blended together. Some standouts though.

o zé ramalho deles

Decent Bob Dylan and certainly merits inclusion on this list.

Beste sanger: Idiot Winds og Lily, Rosemary and the Jack of Hearts

It's fine. Maybe I'm just not a lyrics guy. Or a Dylan guy.

I can’t stand Bob Dylan lol. Absolutely personal preference. It’s fine but wouldn’t listen again

Original og perfekt indie

One of my favorite memories from high school is the time I, freshly dumped, solicited my AP Lang teacher for breakup-music recommendations, and he came into class the next day with his own CD copies of two The Cure albums and Blood On The Tracks for me to borrow. It has always been hilarious to me to remember myself, 17, crying over the dissolution of my month-long long-distance relationship with my Tumblr mutual, grasping for straws for kinship with Dylan's tender divorcee donkey-braying. At 29 I have yet to fully get the appeal, but "Shelter from the Storm" is a lovely song at least.

Never been a fan of Dylans voice but this is not too bad.

Classic Dylan

it's ok i liked it and i respect it but it didnt really leave me wanting to go back to it, idiot wind is pretty good and i like lily rosemary and the jack of hearts because its got big jim and lily which is so crazy because i am big jim and lily is lily

Pretty good Dylan for me. Not a huge fan but this is close to as good as it gets for me. 3.5

i despise this album. to be clear, i absolutely hate it. there is nothing worse than this music. in the world there is nothing worse

Some long and repetitive songs on this album, and they kind of all sound the same. Never been a big Dylan fan, but there are a few songs that I enjoyed.

Pretty nice-sounding cozy folk songs; however, the harmonica parts are a little loud.

I recognize that this is entirely a "Me" problem but I have such trouble connecting with Bob Dylan's music because I'm not a "lyric getter" unless I actively follow along with them in front of my while listening. Because his writing is so intricate, it is impossible for me to follow along with any song unless I listen to it 5, 6, or 7 times at least. With some, this is not a problem because they are so beautiful that I'm willing to do that. But, most of his work, most of this album, do not hold my attention like that. This time, I did read every lyric as I listened to this album. As expected, it was incredible. But, I do not want that to be the way I can enjoy an album. Nothing against Bob, his acclaim is well-earned. Just is not for me.

Not too shabby. Better for background music.

His strumming style annoys me. Tangled Up In Blue was by far the best track; the rest: meh.

I've never been a fan of Dylan's work, but I also haven't invested the time to really listen to the lyrics. I'm sure there is a lot of depth there, but the tunes and his voice just aren't good enough to hold my attention that long.

I'm over 660 albums into this project, and this will only be my second Bob Dylan album to review, after Time Out Of Mind, which I really didn't care for (2 stars). Heading into this project, I'd only listened to Highway 61 Revisited and Blonde on Blonde, so I've never listened to this album before, but I do know "Tangled Up in Blue," thanks to the Rock Band video game. Dylan's music can be pretty hit or miss with me, so I'm not quite sure where this will land. I guess there's only one way to find out! Blood on the Tracks was fine, which was a little disappointing to me, since this album seems to be really well received. Musically, I thought it was great, but I didn't care for Dylan's vocals on this particular album. The guitar playing was great throughout the album, with "Tangled Up in Blue" representing my favorite guitar playing on the album. I really loved the organ playing too, as it reminded me more of Dylan's earlier work that I enjoy. The songwriting was great too, and I liked how vulnerable Dylan was about this particularly tumultuous time in his life. I know he says this album isn't autobiographical, but come on, man, it's pretty obvious that this album was pretty much all about the dissolving relationship with his wife at the time. Dylan expresses his heartache in so many different ways, and I enjoyed all the different figurative language he used throughout the album. Dylan really excelled at painting visual pictures with his words on this album, despite all of the figurative language, and I think that really shows off his skills as a songwriter. I mentioned it briefly before, but I really didn't like the shift away from Dylan's nasal singing on his earlier work. However, the rhythm of his vocal delivery was typical to what I'm used to, which I always enjoy. Additionally, some of the songs on this album were really long, and I found myself getting pretty bored with them. This album was fine, but I can't see myself seeking it out again.

3.5 I enjoyed it as relaxing music in the background.

I'm in the camp that can't deal with the voice and the delivery. My husband is the Bob fan. He tells me that, objectively, this one might be the best. So I really listened hard and yes, the songs are good. So are the words. I'd prefer them to be sung by someone else though. Who doesn't have a mouth organ. I'm sorry, genuinely, that Bob just isn't for me. But his voice sets my teeth on edge.

This album brings the countryside love and joy with it. The way the character explores love, life and learns different aspects of it effortlessly.

Bob Dylan has never done much for me. Maybe I'm missing something, but his lyrics don't speak to me and one certainly doesn't listen to him for his vocals. He's fine, but I prefer him in a one or two song dose rather than sitting through a whole album.

Good, a bit slow for me

I don't really know what to say about this. It was decent, but I can't really think of any tracks that were standout enough to bring this up to a four-star album for me.

fine, heard better bob

No se oli taas yks Bob Dylanin levy, niitä näköjään riittää tällä listalla. Aika perus taas, ei mitään ihmeellistä mutta ihan hyvääkin silti. Parhaat: Simple Twist of Fate, Buckets of Rain

No denying Tangled Up In Blue is a great song. The rest of the album is Ok at best. This is Dylan's divorce album no matter how much he denies it. Some songs run too long. With his voice that's a drawback. It did influence artists l like including Public Enemy who quoted lyrics from this in later albums. So I'll give it a passing grade.

What with this list giving me a new found respect for Mr Dylan, I was looking forward to listening to this. It kinda delivered, there are some really good tracks on here, but also some which just felt a bit flat and long. No doubt he is a lyrical genius mind, I don’t naturally listen to lyrics much, he’s one of the few artists where I just find myself doing so.

It's okay but a bit forgettable

Tangled up in blue is very good. The rest I'm ok with Will I listen to again: 30%

It’s amazing how much PERCUSSION can help music. This took Bob Dylan’s music from coming across as pretty aimless and wishy-washy to something with some drive and intent. The opening track is probably my favourite song from Bob so far, and the overall more limited (although still present) harmonica across the album was appreciated. Vocals were a bit better, but I think it is only because they received more of a touch-up than in other records. Better, but still not remarkable.

Again wish there were half stars as would give 3.5 but since it didn’t earn 4 for me it is a 3. As much as you hear Dylan influence in future music and his legendary status this album has some filler IMHO. It does have one of my all time favourite Dylan tunes Shelter from the Storm. Right up there with girl from the north country.

Not a huge Dylan fan, but this album was pretty good

Entspannend

I could barely make it through this album and I can't stand his voice but at least I liked Shelter from the Storm

Like the old saying goes, one awesome opening track doth not an awesome album make...

I feel my tolerance for harmonica decrease with every Bob Dylan album.

It is a very weak 3 star...How the fuck anybody can admire this man...It is fucking boring and all songs are quite the same.

Pretty good, songs like idiot wind and if you see her say hello are cool

I mean, I've never liked Dylan's voice too much. But these are perfectly nice. I like the slice-of-life stuff.

3.8. Good old Bobby

3 - Dylan is definitely not appealing to me

Jeg synes det var godt og musikken var god, men jeg er ikke så glad for hans stemme

3/5. Not a Bob Dylan fan. Shelter from the Storm - 5/5.

I am not too overtly familiar with Bob Dylan’s whole catalogue, but I listen to Blonde on Blonde and Freewheelin’ quite a lot, and this album just didn’t do it for me like they do! Don’t get me wrong there are some killer tracks, i particularly liked Tangled up in Blue, and Shelter from the Storm but it didn’t capture my attention the way that Dylan’s classics do. Would I revisit as a whole ? Probably not, but I wouldn’t be mad to hear it in full again. I’d rate a solid 3.5, but 4 seems too high based on my rating system and 3 too low. But I’ll round down for this one. Maybe it’ll grow on me….wish I could revisit my ratings!!

Don’t love Dylan’s voice, but the lyrics are beautiful.

I've got a lot of time for ol' Robert, but having had 4 of his albums on this list now I feel like finding unique reasons to enjoy them is only becoming more difficult. He definitely found his sound, and it's remarkable that his 15th album is so listenable, I just wish it were more distinct.

An enjoyable listen. Liked the storytelling vibe of the lyrics, each song felt like a journey. No track really stood out to me as one I'd like to re-listen to but overall pretty good.

I like this one a lot more than Blonde on Blonde. Tangled Up in Blue and Shelter from the Storm stood out to me.

I don’t love Bob Dylan, but this is one of his best works

Was enjoyable with its meandering wayward winging ballads

As always, Bob Dylan is an incredible songwriter. Fueled by personal heart ache, he paints a vivid picture of vulnerability and conflict. His son said that the album sounded like his parents talking, which must hit hard given their separation. Musically, I don't think it's strongest album. Half of it was re-recorded following the urging of Dylan's brother. It has some great songs from both the New York and Minneapolis sessions, including some of his best. 'Tangled Up in Blue' is one highlight for me, as is 'Shelter From the Storm', which recalls his early work. I really like 'Buckets of Rain' for reasons I can't describe. Overall though, the music isn't as strong as other albums. It's carried mainly by the power and poetry of the lyrics.

# Album Name: Blood on the tracks # Artist: Bob Dylan # Rating: 3/5 # Comments: For some reason ive never gravitated towards dylans music. Theres the odd track here and there but ive never sought out his back catalogue. Seems to be hit and miss with me. What a start to this album with "Tangled up in blue". Great track. The rest of the album couldnt live up to the opener. I did enjoy idiot wind and Meet me in the morning. # Top Tunes: Tangled up in blue. # Would I listen to it again? Ive added a couple of tracks to my playlist. I'd probably stick it on again. Most would be background music.

This style of Bob Dylan is too folky for me. Sorry, but I'm not a fan. It's fine for background music, though.

Tangled Up in Blue is incredible. The rest of the album reminded me why I'm a distant admirer rather than a fan of Bob Dylan. The vocals are an acquired taste. I feel like I like Bob Dylan in spite of the singing, not because of it. The lyrics however are really inspired. My suggestion is to have them available when you listen to this album. It really helps your enjoyment. Favorite songs: Tangled Up in Blue, Shelter from the Storm, Idiot Wind, Lily, Rosemary and the Jack of Hearts 3.5⭐️

Alot better than the last Dylan album on this list. Not so much rambling

Not his best album but far from his worst. 3 seems about right.

I can't bear too much Bob Dylan at once, but if I had to, I would pick this album, it was good and almost not annoying. 3.5 stars. Stand-out: Idiot Wind

Don’t tell the other English majors, but I was never into Bob Dylan as a young person. I’ve come to appreciate him more as I’ve gotten older, but this album showcases some of the things that have always pushed me away from him. Nine minute songs with no variation. Arbitrary harmonica. That voice. Still, I’d rather live in a world where Dylan has had such a profound influence than one where he never existed.

The album is fine as background, but no tracks stood out after a couple of listens. Not sure why this album is regarded so highly.

Bob Dylan just isn’t for me. Couldn’t wait for this to be over

Não curto muito Dylan. Álbum ok.

As much as Ive tried amd Ive listened to all hos discography I just dont like Dylan. He can write yes, can he sing hell no he sounds like a chipmunck being castrated when hebtries to hit the high notes he shouldnt be even trying. Good songs overall, original sound, great lyrics but foll aint my type of music and I find songs to be too similar to each other. If it werent for John Prine he would be the worse. I really feel and like much more paul simon yet I cant stand him.

It's Bob Dylan and exactly what you would expect. Bob is Bobbin'

A little more country which was decent.

It's aight I guess

Blood on the tracks is from me. I was hit by the train that is this album. Just jokes, or maybe not?

Just one listen. Love the story telling but ultimately not enthusiastic about it

A solid listen from Bob. Some classics on here, but overall conventional. 3/5

I never liked the way he is singing, but I always admired his songwriting. It's a good album.

Dylan halt.

nice, but not really my thing.

This is probably the best Dylan album I've heard yet. Harmonica is not as prominent and not obnoxiously loud and the storytelling is good. I would have given it a 4 if it wasn't for YEEEEEEEEEDIOT WIND Standout: Tangled Up In Blue

A good country time. Favourite Track: Simple Twist of Fate

Pretty good for Dylan, still not my thing.

Liked some more than others, enjoyed the lyrics but not managed to get into the talking style or the irregularity yet. Best ones were you’re a big girl now and lily, rosemary and the Jack of hearts

This is what I think of when someone mentions Bob Dylan….classic, but not my fave.

I know that Bob Dylan was amazing back in the day, especially given that this was released in 1975, which is a year after AC/DC showed up, but nowadays I feel like I can't give his albums more than a 3. I enjoyed having this in the background but that's all.

This was better than the other Dylan album I listened to, but I still can't get past the vocals.

This was okay. Not something I really get into.

After giving 'The Freewheelin' Bob Dylan' another listen, I feel very confident marking this one as good, but the lesser of the two. Great lyrics, as per usual, but I couldn't quite connect with it as well as I did with Freewheelin'.

Pretty good. Catchy at times. Although didn’t grab me like his other work (Basement Tapes is my favorite album of his).

I liked 60% of this album which is more than I thought I would. I guess good music will always shine through in any genre, even if you’re not a fan of it.

Enjoyable, the 1st track was my favourite

Impossible to be mad at this

I bet I would like Bob Dylan’s songs more if someone else were singing them. But I actually did enjoy this album more than the last one I got here.

Alright

One of the guys I used to work with listen to Bob Dylan all the time. This was ok.

Bob Dylan is always good/easy listening.

The top song is one of my favorites of all time. The rest is ok.

#269. Dylan made some unquestionably fantastic music in the 60s, but this was truly the tail end of any of that. For reasons unknown to man, he's still out there making music to this day, but it's terrible, and has been terrible since the late 70s. Albums like this one may still have a song or two to enjoy still, but it's clear that he's run out of whatever magic he had a decade before. 3/5: still ok, I guess

Difficult album. Obviously packed with crazy good songs but also not really too exciting throughout.

I don't remember what I thought, probably quite liked it

None of the big hitters, but there are glimpses of genius, and at times his singing is classically beautiful.

Not my favorite Dylan album, but still Dylan. I'm giving a three as I'm not focusing on lyrics for this project.

Jag gillar Dylan. Shelter From the Storm och Tangled Up in Blue är riktigt bra.

Musiken blir lidanden/basic. Det är ju inte dåligt. Men det är verkligen inte top notch. I saw Dylan live around 2012-ish and… he was awful. His voice was totally incomprehensible and the band wasn’t great, to the point where I didn’t realize what song he was playing until I could sort of make out “zhuzhed up in blue” and I was like “wait… is this a song I recognize?” Probably just a bad day for him, or he was phoning it in, because he’s continued to make great music in the studio since then, and I’ve heard good things from others. Dylan had an amazing run around 1963 through 1967 or so, and then had a series of not as good albums in the early 70s. It’s hard to say Blood on the Tracks was his comeback album because his prior albums weren’t bad, but they all paled in comparison to his run in 1964-1966. It’s also hard to say Blood on the Tracks was a return to form though, since he was constantly re-inventing his sound. But Blood on the Tracks certainly meets the quality of his mid-60s song making, and it’s a highlight even in a career full of masterpieces. If you like this album, definitely check out More Blood, More Tracks: The Bootleg Series Vol. 14 which is basically just alternate recordings of each song on the original album, all still wonderful.

Ну, пойдет, хотя я и не фанат такого жанра. 6/10 = 60%

It's my first time really listening to Bob Dylan. I mainly listen to music for the vibe and therefore I'm usually more focused on the instrumentation and the arrangement of a song. Bob Dylan's music always sounded a bit boring to me and didn't catch me. Now, paying attention to his lyrics, showed me a new side of his art. I really enjoyed his poetic way of telling stories. The words he chooses and the way he connects them sounded really beautiful to me.

Never cared for Bob Dylan but I'll listen to his songs.

I liked how this album started, but for some reason I had a rewlly hard time finishing this album, as it just bored me. I can tell the lyrics are deep and pretty interesting, but after about 20 mins of it, I feel I'd heard enough. This was the least distracted I have been by Dylans's voice though, which was nice. My favorite here was Simple Twist of Fate.

Like all Bob Dylan songs, they are more about the lyrics than the vocals and the music. I get that. But I don't really listen closely to lyrics, so this kind of music isn't my favorite. But there's nothing terrible about it.

For some reason I have always found Bob Dylan a bit of a hard listen. Granted he is a brilliant wordsmith and musician, but he's never sat well to my ears. A typical album from him, and one to put under my belt as part of the 1001 Challenge.

This album has fallen a bit in my estimation the older I’ve gotten. It’s intelligent and sophisticated, and some of the songs still mean a lot to me (“Tangled Up In Blue” “You’re Gonna Make Me Lonesome When You Go”), but, I don’t know, this far into his career, it lacks some of the energy and anger of his earlier work. These feelings are replaced with a sadness that I’m not sure I’m truly buying. And would it kill the guy to write a bridge every once in a while?

still don't like his voice but this album was jamming

Suena como el culo, pero es bonito si te gusta este rollo folk-country-trovador. Tangle up in blue, You're gonna make m lonesome when you go. Para mí no es su mejor disco ni sus mejores canciones, aunque parece que para la crítica si que es un trabajo clave.

I just can’t bring myself to care about this

Good, but not me thing.

I'm glad Bob Dylan exists and I see him as a creative and influential artist, however I don't like listening to his music much. It's a little too slow and ramblin' for me, no themes that I connect to usually, and I'm also not a fan of his voice especially when he raises it. No hard feelings Bob, congrats on your nobel prize.

Bom mas n é minha praia

God, the goofy-ass way he sings is so over the top half the time that it's hard to get past. There are some genuinely great songs here with some really interesting wordplay, but the character that he's playing is just plain silly most of the time and it's very distracting.

Country album🫠

Quintessential Dylan

Hey! Try *womething (sic) completely different* today ladies & gentlemen, such as listening to FATOUMATA DIAWARA (her songs that blend Wassoulou traditions of southern Mali with international influences [I detect element of Omttmar Liebert's "Luna Negra" lyrcial flamenco guitar, for example on "Manitoumani"], and she also sings in French. One of the first female solo electric guitar players in Mali, she makes for more interesting listening on a Friday afternoon than *yet another Dylan Album* - I muse, - how much more interesting this list would be if it had some World music mixed in to make this less mundane and vanilla as a list, as it is. Meanwhile, I have read others' reviews of this Dylan album, and decided it will add nothing significantly to my life as an exploration , nor is it likely to blow my mind as anb 'essential album to listen to'. Hence my banal rating.

A bit too country for these city ears

Classic sound

kinda disappointed by how much i disliked this. it was very boring, some songs were just too long, and i got sick of how he sings. lyrics are good though.

Neutral, as always one of the best storyteller. Although I am not a big fan of him. The album deserves a 3/5

I like Buckets of Rain the best (if you wanted to know). I love Bob. None of my favorite songs of his are on here but I still always enjoy his music, he reminds Lola of her grandfather who used to make folk music so I always think of her and him when I listen. 3.7.

I liked it ok, none of my favorite tracks (bloody or not) on this album but still some decent ones. Interesting that there's always a one-eyed carny or a gambling dwarf or the like somewhere in Dylan's lyrics; I guess Tom Waits must've picked that up from him.

I actually listened to the 'Blood on the tracks' acoustic demos album, which I think is better than the finished album. However, whilst 'Tangled up in blue', 'Simple twist of fate,' and 'Idiot wind' are unimpeachably excellent, I do think this album is over rated. It's often held up as Dylan's masterpiece, but I prefer it's successor - 'Desire' - and predecessor - 'Planet Waves'. In comparison to the much later 'Time out of mind' and 1967's 'John Wesley Harding', this album is pretty middling stuff!! Sorry, all you Dylanologists out there!

You either gonna like Dylan or hate him and you know that going in mostly. This album has two of the songs I like the most by Mr. mumbles and I enjoyed it overall. Thes ones I don't know landed fine.

Ca s'écoute sans trop de problème, mais je ne vois toujours pas l'intérêt. Sa voix m'agace plus qu'autre chose, et portant peu d'intérêt au texte...

Excellent

Better than what I expected but still too long for its own sake

Very Bob Dylan. Liked it overall. No songs stood out but I would listen to the album again. A lot of people complain about the sound, but it just sounds like Bob Dylan.

Man, I want to like this, but his non hits are rough.

I was surprised that I wasn't blown away by this album. "Shelter from the storm" and "Tangled up in blue" were the only ones I knew, and the rest just sort of rolled by. I do think it's an album that requires more attentiveness than I was giving it during my workday, but it felt a bit repetitive and overwrought in places.

More listenable than some of the other Dylan albums on here. But I still can't rate it that high

This one’s hard for me, because I like Bob Dylan, but I don’t think I love Bob Dylan. I understand him as a poet, as a folk artist, as an important contributor to the American Music Tradition™️. There are plenty of Dylan songs that I enjoy, lyrically, intellectually, emotionally in my bones. There’s also a lot of Dylan songs that I hate – the more band-oriented, the abstract, the allegorical, and worst of all, the long-winded. Blood on the Tracks has both of these Dylans. Not to an exhaustive degree – in fact, it’s probably an even split of the two – but it’s just enough of a 50/50 divide that I’m torn. The raw songs that return him to his roots, like “Tangled up in Blue,” You’re Gonna Make Me Lonesome When You Go,” and “If You See Her, Say Hello” really hit me, even though I’m not going through a divorce or anything. And I think this album benefits from the fact that it starts very strong, and it ends pretty strong. But then there’s this middle section of longer songs, filled with allegory and abstraction and meandering Dylan-isms, and it just drags me down, and it takes me out. “Idiot Wind” and “Lily, Rosemary and the Jack of Hearts” are the worst offenders by far, but I’m also only okay with “You’re a Big Girl Now” and “Meet Me in the Morning,” and the actual closer, “Buckets of Rain,” is a bit too much of a wallflower for my taste. And I understand why these songs are the way they are, why they’re on this record, and the purpose they serve, but they just do nothing for me. I’m struggling to imagine if this record could grow on me. Dylan can have that effect. It also feels like a record where I’ll always revisit certain tracks, but rarely the album in full. But then again, the elements I dislike have always been the elements I dislike about Dylan. In the end, I think I’m slightly beyond neutral (a 3.5; this is where the 5 star rating system falls apart, at least at a glance), but not far enough to say I’m fully on board with it, at least not yet.

not bad

The song about him killing a chick in Paris was cool.

very different from freewheeling, didn't feel quite the same and it gave me an unsettling feeling that I can't quite place, although perhaps it had a different source.

I know this is considered by some to be the pinnacle of Dylan’s work, but for me it just doesn’t quite hit the spot. There’s undoubtedly some great songs on this album, but something about the production and performance just make it hard work for me to listen to. I’ll take 62-67 Dylan any day of the week.

Solidly into his wailing phase. The songwriting itself is overshadowed, unfortunately.

Definitely a lesser Dylan work. Seemed like a lot of filler with a couple of high points. Never been a huge fan of his vocals, but his song writing is pretty great. 3.3

A solid Dylan work. What more can you want or expect? Not quite as memorable as some of his timeless classic hits of the 60s.

Not a Dylan fan but a solid record. Maybe a little bloated in the middle but still keeps interesting and a good pace.

nice and interesting but not to my taste

I really don't like Bob Dylan's voice, and Idiot Wind is the perfect storm of why I hate it. But then immediately after that song on the album, he voice is much less abrasive. It really actually let me listen and appreciate his lyrics, and also was kind of a window into why he is such a highly regarded musician.

It's hard to tell. It's Bob Dylan, one of the best singer-songwriters. Nice guitars, and more like a storyteller than a singer. On the other hand, there were no songs that really stood out to me. I just finished listening, and except for the last notes of the last song I don't remember anything. Maybe I have to listen to it more carefully and pay more attention to the lyrics. But for now its just... medium

There are some songs I enjoy on here but alot of it lacks the edge of his earlier work. (which I prefer). It will be interesting to see if there are any later albums on the list and see what I think of them.

Classic Dylan

Despite loving the Freewheeling and the times... I was never able to get into anything Dylan after that. This was pretty good, though still nothing compared to those two. Some good tracks, but nothing to blow me away. Some poor ones. Good but not great album. 3.5*

Didn't mind this album.

Kinda boring but nice

didnt get to finish it all, i can understand why people enjoy his music. i didn't latch on to it for some reason, i remember liking one of the songs though

I love bob

It's Bob Dylan. Everything is pretty baked in with him at this point. This album is good, but there are definitely others of his I like better. Shelter from the Storm is particularly good, but nothing on here matches his best work.

I prefer the chaotic messy Dylan to the 70s light rock version, but his poetic genius shines in any format.

Gave this a couple tries but it's just not speaking to me. Nothing wrong with it, and there's some pleasant stuff so it sits at *** but it all runs together.

Not a fan of Bob. A few good songs here but too folky for me.

Schönes Nörgeln

B- Tangled Up In Blue 3 Simple Twist Of Fate 3 You're A Big Girl Now 3 Idiot Wind 4 You're Gonna Make Me Lonesome When You Go 3 Meet Me In The Morning 3 Lily, Rosemary And The Jack Of Hearts 3 If You See Her, Say Hello 3 Shelter From The Storm 3 Buckets Of Rain 3 Dylan, like Young, won't stop being generated. His work is slightly growing on me.

Not a fan of Bob Dylan, but the album wasn't as bad as I was anticipating.

Tää semi jees 3/5 Jep 3/5

I enjoyed it. Its not an artist or album I would have picked out, but I am slowly learning to ignore my preconceptions and give anything a chance.

This was alright not something I would have searched for but was not the worst thing I have heard.

I think this album is mythologized to such a degree that it is hard to tell if I’m reacting to what I’m hearing or to the hype. There was a time in my life when I thought I really liked this album. Now I’m not so sure. I think it’s shitty that Dylan never gave the Minneapolis session players that re-recorded several of the songs credit. I think it’s shitty that he showed up to the New York sessions drunk and acted like he didn’t care about what he was doing. I have rarely been as horrified as when I heard Bette Midler singing “Buckets of Rain”. I far prefer the New York versions of “You’re a Big Girl Now” and “Idiot Wind” but think some of the Minneapolis versions are better, like “Rosemary, Lily and the Jack of Hearts”. At this point in my life, I am in neither the “Bob Dylan is rock’s greatest poet” camp nor the “This guy’s voice is terrible, turn it off” camp. I like most of Desire and most of Blonde on Blonde. I like Rolling Thunder Revue era Dylan with his eye liner and his silly feathered cap. I like some of Highway 61, and Bringing It All Back Home and John Wesley Harding. But only some of those albums. If I never heard folk or born again era Dylan again I’d be fine with that. As for Blood on the Tracks, I think I like some of it okay. “Meet me in the Morning” and “Buckets of Rain” are pretty cool songs. But I think that I’ve listened to this album too many times at too many ages to really hear it when I put it on. I think it’s probably pretty good. I think people should listen to it before they die, but it’s not an album I am likely to put on. And isn’t that what makes an album good? Something you enjoy listening to and want to play? Cause for me, this isn’t that.

Ej jeg syntes Bob Dylan er svær. Det har uden tvivl noget kvalitet. Men det rammer mig ikke på den der “det er jo genialt det der” måde. Blood on the Tracks har nogle rigtig gode sange som Tangled up in Blue, Simple Twist of Faith, Meet me in the Morning og Buckets of Rain.

Meh. Easy listening and great storytelling. Not something I would ever pick tho.

Long story songs that requires attention to appreciate. Not the best casual listening or background music.

Not bad, not sure if I’m a fan of bob dylan tbf

Loved to listen to this one, but felt a bit two generic and samey to me.

The first couple songs are great. The next two REALLYYY are not. And as always Bob Dylan can not hold a tune to save his life.

I'm sure I have friends who would admonish me for this rating, but, I just find this album to be a bit samesy. That said, the first two tracks are fire, and it's peak Dylan (he's just not my jam).

Sounds like an allright Dylan album, but still usual Dylan style, nothing too crazy but still good

Musically great. Have never been a huge fan on the mumbling vocals. Good background noise.

Not for me. I hear Prince compares to MJ a lot, but didn’t get nearly the same feeling. May be nostalgia in part.

Ist ganz cool

Pretty decent. I shy away from older stuff as it starts sounding same-y to me (good, but nothing ground breaking, probably the "Friends" effect of me seeing everything inspired by it first, then seeing the original, but already being familiar with the genre at that point) but this one stood out more than usual

I expected better but that's perhaps because I was not solely listening to it. I will listen again.

- his voice lmao - "tangled up in blue" is good - "you're a big girl now", "lily, rosemary...", "shelter from the storm" are skips - "idiot wind" isn't bad - he kinda puts women on a pedestal which is both cool and not good at the same time. on a pedestal or they're some villain - it's a nice, chill, quiet album whose lyrics gross me out

Classics throughout, good album

Tangled up in blue and meet me in the morning are great songs, jack of hearts is good with a great story. The rest is alright.

Gear: Hifiman Arya Mische: (mit den Aryas's) immer wieder neue Details zu entdecken, Akustikgitarre(n) besonders authentisch Mugge: hat mit "Tangled up in Blue" und "Shelter from the Storm" legendäre Songs an Bord - ein ganzes Bob Dylan-Album geht aber nur mit ungeteilter Aufmerksamkeit (und viel gutem Willen) Musik: 3/5

This album had about 7 more Dylan tracks than I can handle on any given day.

best Bob thus far

I've never been a fan of Dylan and expected to not like it. It was surprisingly enjoyable. I could also understand him... mostly.

Nice and relaxing folk. Some of the lyrics seemed forced into rhymes. Like just flowed weird. It was a little slow for me but I did enjoy the listen.

Note to Dylan: Hearts is not a two syllable word, last I checked.

Young Dylan, can understand him and he's poetic

i was really dreading listening to this one based on my past bob dylan experience but it was pretty mild and an enjoyable fall day farmers market listen. 2.5

It's not my favorite dylan

Tangled Up in Blue slays and I personally think it's unfortunate this is the album it's on.

There were some great songs on this album. That being said, in my opinion about 99% of Bob Dylan songs would be made better by cutting out the annoying harmonica solos.

Re-listen. I do sort of get why this album is so beloved, but the style is not really for me. I still liked it though, and more than the first time I listened to it.

Master lyricist, just not a huge fan of the music

middling bob

the way that i listen to music doesn’t lend itself well to Dylan. his mastery comes in the lyrics and i just don’t really listen to lyrics in music. he has a catchy song every once in a while though

I struggle with Bob Dylan. He is a folk singer/songwriter and as such should be right in my wheelhouse BUT..... Having seen and heard so many parody's and memes, its hard to take is distinctive singing style seriously. Just sounds like he is taking the piss?

Another Dylan album, another 3. Still can't get into his stuff, despite trying for quite some time. I mean it's not bad, it just doesn't resonate with me. 'You're a Big Girl Now' was my favourite song of the album.

banjo enlightenment mild adrenaline is like heroin the lonesome and tedius sort i have never liked this album but stevie harris pushed it hard and impersonating dylan in simple twist of fate was vital to surviving that job

I already know this isn't really going to be to my tastes just from the first track. but that's ok! I didn't find it sad enough to make me sad, or high energy enough to jam to. everything is assembled nicely though. skip(s): You're a Big Girl Now favorite track(s): If You See Her, Say Hello

It's Bob Dylan

average

This was fine.I prefer Adele’s take on his songs.

3.5 I liked I just don’t love

Han spelar mycket munspel.

Nice background music

Good but kinda samey

I know this

Upbeat music. Good for listening to at work.

Tangled up in blue clearly the stand out track. I enjoyed but it wasn’t ideal music for exercise 😂

Not a huge Dylan fan just because lyrics aren’t my thing. 3/5

Good songs. He should let somebody else sing though.

# 1975, Bob Dylan Blood on the Tracks 3* sadly, because I can't find myself listening to this over and over again. I appreciate the lyrics and the symbolism, the pain in his voice, the yearning. I appreciate all the simplicity and the raw emotions. But it's not something I'd give a lot of playtime. ## "Tangled Up in Blue" December 30, 1974, in Minneapolis 5:42 4* Interesting song, it's a story about a guy's mission to find a girl he met when he was younger. What does "blue" mean? It could be anything, I think it's just the simplest, the blues. ## "Simple Twist of Fate" September 19, 1974, in New York City 4:19 3* Haunting song about a casual encounter between a man and woman that leaves the man feeling empty. ## "You're a Big Girl Now" December 27, 1974, in Minneapolis 4:36 3* Dylan reflects on a woman he's broken up with moving on from a breakup. ## "Idiot Wind" December 27, 1974, in Minneapolis 7:48 4* Dylan's character is being attacked in the public eye, and he's taking arrows. It's a bitter, cold pushback against critics that gossip but they are idiots. It led to the breakup of his marriage, his wife Sara believed the bad press about Bob, leading to him calling her (and later himself) "an idiot, babe." ## "You're Gonna Make Me Lonesome When You Go" September 17, 1974, in New York City 2:55 3* A love song to a stormy relationship that will be ending inevitably. ## "Meet Me in the Morning" September 16, 1974, in New York City 4:22 4* Very blues-influenced. Loved it. Story of a man sending his girlfriend on a trip to Kansas in the Spring. ## "Lily, Rosemary and the Jack of Hearts" December 30, 1974, in Minneapolis 8:51 3* A bank heist in the 1800s. Catchy, bouncy, but the story didn't grab me like the others. ## "If You See Her, Say Hello" December 30, 1974, in Minneapolis 4:49 3* Good song about a man moving on from an ex. Story grabs you. ## "Shelter from the Storm" September 17, 1974, in New York City 5:02 3* A song about his wife Sara and how she gave him shelter from the rockstar lifestyle. ## "Buckets of Rain" September 19, 1974, in New York City 3:22 3* A metaphor for the volume of tears that Dylan has shed for a lover that is frustrating and yet so dear to the author.

Wel nice maar het maakte het leren voor ML niet minder saai ofzo

I hope 1001 Gen starts serving us up some music that isn't from the 70s and 80s. I like Bob Dylan but I don't love him, very unoffensive and simple music, easy to listen to in the background of something else that's more interesting. I like when he pulls out that harmonica, he really knows how to go crazy on that thing. I like idiot wind, the keyboard (?) in there is pretty good . EEEYEDEYAT WHYND in lily rosemary and jack of hearts Bob is having a lot more fun than I am with this song. overall nothing spectacular about the album, but I didn't mind listening to it.

Good stuff!

Classical Dylan's album. Nothing to say

Not the biggest bob dylan fan, but his music (and this album) remind me of home, driving through the blue ridge parkway on a crisp autumn morning, so it gets a pass for me.

55 Based on this scale: 1 - 0 to 19 2 - 20 to 39 3 - 40 to 59 4 - 60 to 79 5 - 80 to 100 If I were rating these based on lyrics and general songwriting, it would have a much higher score. However, I also have to evaluate its delivery, which is why this cannot get more than three stars. Bob Dylan is a great songwriter and composer, but in order for me to realize he's a great composer, I had to listen to other musicians cover his work.

Bob Dylan gonna Bob Dylan. This was a fun enough listen, but I can't imagine putting this on to listen to of my own volition very often. The folksy harmonica is the most charming thing about these songs in my opinion, and it borders on irritating sometimes haha.

Okay for background music, wouldn’t be a go to if I was paying attention to the music

This album is WHACK! It kind of fit the morning work vibe though. “Idiot Wind” was especially whack. Crazy vibes all around. Felt like I was in some old classic novel.

I can appreciate the lyricism and storytelling but some of it was a little slow for me. I liked the guitar and his voice is always great. 2.5-3

It's kind of a vibe. The vocals weren't my favorite. Overall I'm glad I experienced it.

Not bad, never listened much to Dylan but I plan on diving deeper.

Don't love Dylan's voice. Enjoyed guitar and harmonica.

I like the overall vibe of this music. It feels good to listen to. Makes your mornings nice and relaxing. Makes me want to grow corn. I could be going 20 in 45 to this music because I’m towing a trailer. Sometimes it felt Bob was singing off key or not with the melody of the song. “Idiot Wind” he doesn’t hold back… “you’re an idiot babe”. The harmonica/guitar has a special place in my heart. No one song was notable, but not a bad choice of music to play just to switch things up. Imagine if Jimmy Buffet grew up on a farm and not in Key West. That’s Bob Dylan. I really want to crack a beer and watch my corn grow now. 6/10

One of the better song writers in music history and it shows with how each song tells a story. Not every song is catchy and sometimes can sound kinda similar. Overall pretty good 6/10

Good songs. I wish vocals were better not really my style of music

No harmonica 😄

Feels so intimist. Dylan lyrics at its best. 3 stars

Standard Bob, good songwriting. Are all 200 of his albums gonna make this list??

I get Bob Dylan- just not my cuppa most days.

that's some dylan

I genuinely liked the first two songs a lot, and "Shelter from the Storm" (second to last song). Other than those, the album is what I've always known Dylan for, the great lyrics and songwriting inside a folk style I don't particularly care for, personally. I can definitely see why this is a pivotal album and one to experience, at least once, but it's not one I'm going to return to myself.
