Reviews (page 11 of 14)
Jag gillar Dylan. Shelter From the Storm och Tangled Up in Blue är riktigt bra.
Musiken blir lidanden/basic. Det är ju inte dåligt. Men det är verkligen inte top notch. Fortfarande besviken på BD. Trist.
I saw Dylan live around 2012-ish and… he was awful. His voice was totally incomprehensible and the band wasn’t great, to the point where I didn’t realize what song he was playing until I could sort of make out “zhuzhed up in blue” and I was like “wait… is this a song I recognize?” Probably just a bad day for him, or he was phoning it in, because he’s continued to make great music in the studio since then, and I’ve heard good things from others. Dylan had an amazing run around 1963 through 1967 or so, and then had a series of not as good albums in the early 70s. It’s hard to say Blood on the Tracks was his comeback album because his prior albums weren’t bad, but they all paled in comparison to his run in 1964-1966. It’s also hard to say Blood on the Tracks was a return to form though, since he was constantly re-inventing his sound. But Blood on the Tracks certainly meets the quality of his mid-60s song making, and it’s a highlight even in a career full of masterpieces. If you like this album, definitely check out More Blood, More Tracks: The Bootleg Series Vol. 14 which is basically just alternate recordings of each song on the original album, all still wonderful.
Ну, пойдет, хотя я и не фанат такого жанра. 6/10 = 60%
It's my first time really listening to Bob Dylan. I mainly listen to music for the vibe and therefore I'm usually more focused on the instrumentation and the arrangement of a song. Bob Dylan's music always sounded a bit boring to me and didn't catch me. Now, paying attention to his lyrics, showed me a new side of his art. I really enjoyed his poetic way of telling stories. The words he chooses and the way he connects them sounded really beautiful to me.
Never cared for Bob Dylan but I'll listen to his songs.
I liked how this album started, but for some reason I had a rewlly hard time finishing this album, as it just bored me. I can tell the lyrics are deep and pretty interesting, but after about 20 mins of it, I feel I'd heard enough. This was the least distracted I have been by Dylans's voice though, which was nice. My favorite here was Simple Twist of Fate.
Like all Bob Dylan songs, they are more about the lyrics than the vocals and the music. I get that. But I don't really listen closely to lyrics, so this kind of music isn't my favorite. But there's nothing terrible about it.
For some reason I have always found Bob Dylan a bit of a hard listen. Granted he is a brilliant wordsmith and musician, but he's never sat well to my ears. A typical album from him, and one to put under my belt as part of the 1001 Challenge.
This album has fallen a bit in my estimation the older I’ve gotten. It’s intelligent and sophisticated, and some of the songs still mean a lot to me (“Tangled Up In Blue” “You’re Gonna Make Me Lonesome When You Go”), but, I don’t know, this far into his career, it lacks some of the energy and anger of his earlier work. These feelings are replaced with a sadness that I’m not sure I’m truly buying. And would it kill the guy to write a bridge every once in a while?
still don't like his voice but this album was jamming
Suena como el culo, pero es bonito si te gusta este rollo folk-country-trovador. Tangle up in blue, You're gonna make m lonesome when you go. Para mí no es su mejor disco ni sus mejores canciones, aunque parece que para la crítica si que es un trabajo clave.
I just can’t bring myself to care about this
Good, but not me thing.
Meh
I'm glad Bob Dylan exists and I see him as a creative and influential artist, however I don't like listening to his music much. It's a little too slow and ramblin' for me, no themes that I connect to usually, and I'm also not a fan of his voice especially when he raises it. No hard feelings Bob, congrats on your nobel prize.
Bom mas n é minha praia
God, the goofy-ass way he sings is so over the top half the time that it's hard to get past. There are some genuinely great songs here with some really interesting wordplay, but the character that he's playing is just plain silly most of the time and it's very distracting.
Country album🫠
Quintessential Dylan
Hey! Try *womething (sic) completely different* today ladies & gentlemen, such as listening to FATOUMATA DIAWARA (her songs that blend Wassoulou traditions of southern Mali with international influences [I detect element of Omttmar Liebert's "Luna Negra" lyrcial flamenco guitar, for example on "Manitoumani"], and she also sings in French. One of the first female solo electric guitar players in Mali, she makes for more interesting listening on a Friday afternoon than *yet another Dylan Album* - I muse, - how much more interesting this list would be if it had some World music mixed in to make this less mundane and vanilla as a list, as it is. Meanwhile, I have read others' reviews of this Dylan album, and decided it will add nothing significantly to my life as an exploration , nor is it likely to blow my mind as anb 'essential album to listen to'. Hence my banal rating.
A bit too country for these city ears
Classic sound
kinda disappointed by how much i disliked this. it was very boring, some songs were just too long, and i got sick of how he sings. lyrics are good though.
Neutral, as always one of the best storyteller. Although I am not a big fan of him. The album deserves a 3/5
I like Buckets of Rain the best (if you wanted to know). I love Bob. None of my favorite songs of his are on here but I still always enjoy his music, he reminds Lola of her grandfather who used to make folk music so I always think of her and him when I listen. 3.7.
I liked it ok, none of my favorite tracks (bloody or not) on this album but still some decent ones. Interesting that there's always a one-eyed carny or a gambling dwarf or the like somewhere in Dylan's lyrics; I guess Tom Waits must've picked that up from him.
I actually listened to the 'Blood on the tracks' acoustic demos album, which I think is better than the finished album. However, whilst 'Tangled up in blue', 'Simple twist of fate,' and 'Idiot wind' are unimpeachably excellent, I do think this album is over rated. It's often held up as Dylan's masterpiece, but I prefer it's successor - 'Desire' - and predecessor - 'Planet Waves'. In comparison to the much later 'Time out of mind' and 1967's 'John Wesley Harding', this album is pretty middling stuff!! Sorry, all you Dylanologists out there!
You either gonna like Dylan or hate him and you know that going in mostly. This album has two of the songs I like the most by Mr. mumbles and I enjoyed it overall. Thes ones I don't know landed fine.
Ca s'écoute sans trop de problème, mais je ne vois toujours pas l'intérêt. Sa voix m'agace plus qu'autre chose, et portant peu d'intérêt au texte...
Excellent
Better than what I expected but still too long for its own sake
Very Bob Dylan. Liked it overall. No songs stood out but I would listen to the album again. A lot of people complain about the sound, but it just sounds like Bob Dylan.
Man, I want to like this, but his non hits are rough.
I was surprised that I wasn't blown away by this album. "Shelter from the storm" and "Tangled up in blue" were the only ones I knew, and the rest just sort of rolled by. I do think it's an album that requires more attentiveness than I was giving it during my workday, but it felt a bit repetitive and overwrought in places.
More listenable than some of the other Dylan albums on here. But I still can't rate it that high
This one’s hard for me, because I like Bob Dylan, but I don’t think I love Bob Dylan. I understand him as a poet, as a folk artist, as an important contributor to the American Music Tradition™️. There are plenty of Dylan songs that I enjoy, lyrically, intellectually, emotionally in my bones. There’s also a lot of Dylan songs that I hate – the more band-oriented, the abstract, the allegorical, and worst of all, the long-winded. Blood on the Tracks has both of these Dylans. Not to an exhaustive degree – in fact, it’s probably an even split of the two – but it’s just enough of a 50/50 divide that I’m torn. The raw songs that return him to his roots, like “Tangled up in Blue,” You’re Gonna Make Me Lonesome When You Go,” and “If You See Her, Say Hello” really hit me, even though I’m not going through a divorce or anything. And I think this album benefits from the fact that it starts very strong, and it ends pretty strong. But then there’s this middle section of longer songs, filled with allegory and abstraction and meandering Dylan-isms, and it just drags me down, and it takes me out. “Idiot Wind” and “Lily, Rosemary and the Jack of Hearts” are the worst offenders by far, but I’m also only okay with “You’re a Big Girl Now” and “Meet Me in the Morning,” and the actual closer, “Buckets of Rain,” is a bit too much of a wallflower for my taste. And I understand why these songs are the way they are, why they’re on this record, and the purpose they serve, but they just do nothing for me. I’m struggling to imagine if this record could grow on me. Dylan can have that effect. It also feels like a record where I’ll always revisit certain tracks, but rarely the album in full. But then again, the elements I dislike have always been the elements I dislike about Dylan. In the end, I think I’m slightly beyond neutral (a 3.5; this is where the 5 star rating system falls apart, at least at a glance), but not far enough to say I’m fully on board with it, at least not yet.
not bad
The song about him killing a chick in Paris was cool.
very different from freewheeling, didn't feel quite the same and it gave me an unsettling feeling that I can't quite place, although perhaps it had a different source.
I know this is considered by some to be the pinnacle of Dylan’s work, but for me it just doesn’t quite hit the spot. There’s undoubtedly some great songs on this album, but something about the production and performance just make it hard work for me to listen to. I’ll take 62-67 Dylan any day of the week.
Solidly into his wailing phase. The songwriting itself is overshadowed, unfortunately.
Definitely a lesser Dylan work. Seemed like a lot of filler with a couple of high points. Never been a huge fan of his vocals, but his song writing is pretty great. 3.3
A solid Dylan work. What more can you want or expect? Not quite as memorable as some of his timeless classic hits of the 60s.
Not a Dylan fan but a solid record. Maybe a little bloated in the middle but still keeps interesting and a good pace.
nice and interesting but not to my taste
I really don't like Bob Dylan's voice, and Idiot Wind is the perfect storm of why I hate it. But then immediately after that song on the album, he voice is much less abrasive. It really actually let me listen and appreciate his lyrics, and also was kind of a window into why he is such a highly regarded musician.
It's hard to tell. It's Bob Dylan, one of the best singer-songwriters. Nice guitars, and more like a storyteller than a singer. On the other hand, there were no songs that really stood out to me. I just finished listening, and except for the last notes of the last song I don't remember anything. Maybe I have to listen to it more carefully and pay more attention to the lyrics. But for now its just... medium
There are some songs I enjoy on here but alot of it lacks the edge of his earlier work. (which I prefer). It will be interesting to see if there are any later albums on the list and see what I think of them.
Classic Dylan
Despite loving the Freewheeling and the times... I was never able to get into anything Dylan after that. This was pretty good, though still nothing compared to those two. Some good tracks, but nothing to blow me away. Some poor ones. Good but not great album. 3.5*
Didn't mind this album.
Kinda boring but nice
didnt get to finish it all, i can understand why people enjoy his music. i didn't latch on to it for some reason, i remember liking one of the songs though
I love bob
It's Bob Dylan. Everything is pretty baked in with him at this point. This album is good, but there are definitely others of his I like better. Shelter from the Storm is particularly good, but nothing on here matches his best work.
I prefer the chaotic messy Dylan to the 70s light rock version, but his poetic genius shines in any format.
Gave this a couple tries but it's just not speaking to me. Nothing wrong with it, and there's some pleasant stuff so it sits at *** but it all runs together.
good
Not a fan of Bob. A few good songs here but too folky for me.
Schönes Nörgeln
3.5
B- Tangled Up In Blue 3 Simple Twist Of Fate 3 You're A Big Girl Now 3 Idiot Wind 4 You're Gonna Make Me Lonesome When You Go 3 Meet Me In The Morning 3 Lily, Rosemary And The Jack Of Hearts 3 If You See Her, Say Hello 3 Shelter From The Storm 3 Buckets Of Rain 3 Dylan, like Young, won't stop being generated. His work is slightly growing on me.
Not a fan of Bob Dylan, but the album wasn't as bad as I was anticipating.
Tää semi jees 3/5 Jep 3/5
I enjoyed it. Its not an artist or album I would have picked out, but I am slowly learning to ignore my preconceptions and give anything a chance.
This was alright not something I would have searched for but was not the worst thing I have heard.
I think this album is mythologized to such a degree that it is hard to tell if I’m reacting to what I’m hearing or to the hype. There was a time in my life when I thought I really liked this album. Now I’m not so sure. I think it’s shitty that Dylan never gave the Minneapolis session players that re-recorded several of the songs credit. I think it’s shitty that he showed up to the New York sessions drunk and acted like he didn’t care about what he was doing. I have rarely been as horrified as when I heard Bette Midler singing “Buckets of Rain”. I far prefer the New York versions of “You’re a Big Girl Now” and “Idiot Wind” but think some of the Minneapolis versions are better, like “Rosemary, Lily and the Jack of Hearts”. At this point in my life, I am in neither the “Bob Dylan is rock’s greatest poet” camp nor the “This guy’s voice is terrible, turn it off” camp. I like most of Desire and most of Blonde on Blonde. I like Rolling Thunder Revue era Dylan with his eye liner and his silly feathered cap. I like some of Highway 61, and Bringing It All Back Home and John Wesley Harding. But only some of those albums. If I never heard folk or born again era Dylan again I’d be fine with that. As for Blood on the Tracks, I think I like some of it okay. “Meet me in the Morning” and “Buckets of Rain” are pretty cool songs. But I think that I’ve listened to this album too many times at too many ages to really hear it when I put it on. I think it’s probably pretty good. I think people should listen to it before they die, but it’s not an album I am likely to put on. And isn’t that what makes an album good? Something you enjoy listening to and want to play? Cause for me, this isn’t that.
Ej jeg syntes Bob Dylan er svær. Det har uden tvivl noget kvalitet. Men det rammer mig ikke på den der “det er jo genialt det der” måde. Blood on the Tracks har nogle rigtig gode sange som Tangled up in Blue, Simple Twist of Faith, Meet me in the Morning og Buckets of Rain.
Meh. Easy listening and great storytelling. Not something I would ever pick tho.
Long story songs that requires attention to appreciate. Not the best casual listening or background music.
Not bad, not sure if I’m a fan of bob dylan tbf
Loved to listen to this one, but felt a bit two generic and samey to me.
The first couple songs are great. The next two REALLYYY are not. And as always Bob Dylan can not hold a tune to save his life.
I'm sure I have friends who would admonish me for this rating, but, I just find this album to be a bit samesy. That said, the first two tracks are fire, and it's peak Dylan (he's just not my jam).
Sounds like an allright Dylan album, but still usual Dylan style, nothing too crazy but still good
Musically great. Have never been a huge fan on the mumbling vocals. Good background noise.
Not for me. I hear Prince compares to MJ a lot, but didn’t get nearly the same feeling. May be nostalgia in part.
Ist ganz cool
Pretty decent. I shy away from older stuff as it starts sounding same-y to me (good, but nothing ground breaking, probably the "Friends" effect of me seeing everything inspired by it first, then seeing the original, but already being familiar with the genre at that point) but this one stood out more than usual
I expected better but that's perhaps because I was not solely listening to it. I will listen again.
- his voice lmao - "tangled up in blue" is good - "you're a big girl now", "lily, rosemary...", "shelter from the storm" are skips - "idiot wind" isn't bad - he kinda puts women on a pedestal which is both cool and not good at the same time. on a pedestal or they're some villain - it's a nice, chill, quiet album whose lyrics gross me out
Classics throughout, good album
Tangled up in blue and meet me in the morning are great songs, jack of hearts is good with a great story. The rest is alright.
Gear: Hifiman Arya Mische: (mit den Aryas's) immer wieder neue Details zu entdecken, Akustikgitarre(n) besonders authentisch Mugge: hat mit "Tangled up in Blue" und "Shelter from the Storm" legendäre Songs an Bord - ein ganzes Bob Dylan-Album geht aber nur mit ungeteilter Aufmerksamkeit (und viel gutem Willen) Musik: 3/5
This album had about 7 more Dylan tracks than I can handle on any given day.
best Bob thus far
I've never been a fan of Dylan and expected to not like it. It was surprisingly enjoyable. I could also understand him... mostly.
Nice and relaxing folk. Some of the lyrics seemed forced into rhymes. Like just flowed weird. It was a little slow for me but I did enjoy the listen.
Note to Dylan: Hearts is not a two syllable word, last I checked.
Young Dylan, can understand him and he's poetic
i was really dreading listening to this one based on my past bob dylan experience but it was pretty mild and an enjoyable fall day farmers market listen. 2.5
It's not my favorite dylan
Tangled Up in Blue slays and I personally think it's unfortunate this is the album it's on.
There were some great songs on this album. That being said, in my opinion about 99% of Bob Dylan songs would be made better by cutting out the annoying harmonica solos.
Re-listen. I do sort of get why this album is so beloved, but the style is not really for me. I still liked it though, and more than the first time I listened to it.
Master lyricist, just not a huge fan of the music
middling bob
the way that i listen to music doesn’t lend itself well to Dylan. his mastery comes in the lyrics and i just don’t really listen to lyrics in music. he has a catchy song every once in a while though

I struggle with Bob Dylan. He is a folk singer/songwriter and as such should be right in my wheelhouse BUT..... Having seen and heard so many parody's and memes, its hard to take is distinctive singing style seriously. Just sounds like he is taking the piss?
Another Dylan album, another 3. Still can't get into his stuff, despite trying for quite some time. I mean it's not bad, it just doesn't resonate with me. 'You're a Big Girl Now' was my favourite song of the album.
banjo enlightenment mild adrenaline is like heroin the lonesome and tedius sort i have never liked this album but stevie harris pushed it hard and impersonating dylan in simple twist of fate was vital to surviving that job
I already know this isn't really going to be to my tastes just from the first track. but that's ok! I didn't find it sad enough to make me sad, or high energy enough to jam to. everything is assembled nicely though. skip(s): You're a Big Girl Now favorite track(s): If You See Her, Say Hello
It's Bob Dylan
average
This was fine.I prefer Adele’s take on his songs.
3.5 I liked I just don’t love
Han spelar mycket munspel.
Nice background music
Good but kinda samey
I know this
Upbeat music. Good for listening to at work.
Tangled up in blue clearly the stand out track. I enjoyed but it wasn’t ideal music for exercise 😂
Not a huge Dylan fan just because lyrics aren’t my thing. 3/5
Good songs. He should let somebody else sing though.
# 1975, Bob Dylan Blood on the Tracks 3* sadly, because I can't find myself listening to this over and over again. I appreciate the lyrics and the symbolism, the pain in his voice, the yearning. I appreciate all the simplicity and the raw emotions. But it's not something I'd give a lot of playtime. ## "Tangled Up in Blue" December 30, 1974, in Minneapolis 5:42 4* Interesting song, it's a story about a guy's mission to find a girl he met when he was younger. What does "blue" mean? It could be anything, I think it's just the simplest, the blues. ## "Simple Twist of Fate" September 19, 1974, in New York City 4:19 3* Haunting song about a casual encounter between a man and woman that leaves the man feeling empty. ## "You're a Big Girl Now" December 27, 1974, in Minneapolis 4:36 3* Dylan reflects on a woman he's broken up with moving on from a breakup. ## "Idiot Wind" December 27, 1974, in Minneapolis 7:48 4* Dylan's character is being attacked in the public eye, and he's taking arrows. It's a bitter, cold pushback against critics that gossip but they are idiots. It led to the breakup of his marriage, his wife Sara believed the bad press about Bob, leading to him calling her (and later himself) "an idiot, babe." ## "You're Gonna Make Me Lonesome When You Go" September 17, 1974, in New York City 2:55 3* A love song to a stormy relationship that will be ending inevitably. ## "Meet Me in the Morning" September 16, 1974, in New York City 4:22 4* Very blues-influenced. Loved it. Story of a man sending his girlfriend on a trip to Kansas in the Spring. ## "Lily, Rosemary and the Jack of Hearts" December 30, 1974, in Minneapolis 8:51 3* A bank heist in the 1800s. Catchy, bouncy, but the story didn't grab me like the others. ## "If You See Her, Say Hello" December 30, 1974, in Minneapolis 4:49 3* Good song about a man moving on from an ex. Story grabs you. ## "Shelter from the Storm" September 17, 1974, in New York City 5:02 3* A song about his wife Sara and how she gave him shelter from the rockstar lifestyle. ## "Buckets of Rain" September 19, 1974, in New York City 3:22 3* A metaphor for the volume of tears that Dylan has shed for a lover that is frustrating and yet so dear to the author.
Wel nice maar het maakte het leren voor ML niet minder saai ofzo
I hope 1001 Gen starts serving us up some music that isn't from the 70s and 80s. I like Bob Dylan but I don't love him, very unoffensive and simple music, easy to listen to in the background of something else that's more interesting. I like when he pulls out that harmonica, he really knows how to go crazy on that thing. I like idiot wind, the keyboard (?) in there is pretty good . EEEYEDEYAT WHYND in lily rosemary and jack of hearts Bob is having a lot more fun than I am with this song. overall nothing spectacular about the album, but I didn't mind listening to it.
Good stuff!
Classical Dylan's album. Nothing to say
Not the biggest bob dylan fan, but his music (and this album) remind me of home, driving through the blue ridge parkway on a crisp autumn morning, so it gets a pass for me.
55 Based on this scale: 1 - 0 to 19 2 - 20 to 39 3 - 40 to 59 4 - 60 to 79 5 - 80 to 100 If I were rating these based on lyrics and general songwriting, it would have a much higher score. However, I also have to evaluate its delivery, which is why this cannot get more than three stars. Bob Dylan is a great songwriter and composer, but in order for me to realize he's a great composer, I had to listen to other musicians cover his work.
Bob Dylan gonna Bob Dylan. This was a fun enough listen, but I can't imagine putting this on to listen to of my own volition very often. The folksy harmonica is the most charming thing about these songs in my opinion, and it borders on irritating sometimes haha.
Okay for background music, wouldn’t be a go to if I was paying attention to the music
This album is WHACK! It kind of fit the morning work vibe though. “Idiot Wind” was especially whack. Crazy vibes all around. Felt like I was in some old classic novel.
I can appreciate the lyricism and storytelling but some of it was a little slow for me. I liked the guitar and his voice is always great. 2.5-3
It's kind of a vibe. The vocals weren't my favorite. Overall I'm glad I experienced it.
Not bad, never listened much to Dylan but I plan on diving deeper.
Nice.
meh.
Don't love Dylan's voice. Enjoyed guitar and harmonica.
I like the overall vibe of this music. It feels good to listen to. Makes your mornings nice and relaxing. Makes me want to grow corn. I could be going 20 in 45 to this music because I’m towing a trailer. Sometimes it felt Bob was singing off key or not with the melody of the song. “Idiot Wind” he doesn’t hold back… “you’re an idiot babe”. The harmonica/guitar has a special place in my heart. No one song was notable, but not a bad choice of music to play just to switch things up. Imagine if Jimmy Buffet grew up on a farm and not in Key West. That’s Bob Dylan. I really want to crack a beer and watch my corn grow now. 6/10
One of the better song writers in music history and it shows with how each song tells a story. Not every song is catchy and sometimes can sound kinda similar. Overall pretty good 6/10
Good songs. I wish vocals were better not really my style of music
Blob
No harmonica 😄
Feels so intimist. Dylan lyrics at its best. 3 stars
Ok
Standard Bob, good songwriting. Are all 200 of his albums gonna make this list??
I get Bob Dylan- just not my cuppa most days.
that's some dylan
I genuinely liked the first two songs a lot, and "Shelter from the Storm" (second to last song). Other than those, the album is what I've always known Dylan for, the great lyrics and songwriting inside a folk style I don't particularly care for, personally. I can definitely see why this is a pivotal album and one to experience, at least once, but it's not one I'm going to return to myself.
it was pretty good, I generally value musicianship over lyricism so it didn't hit the right spot for me
way better than expected.
Most Dylan songs sound the same to me. Not bad, but not great either.
A little slow in some parts, but the singing, guitar and harmonica were great. Didn't feel too dated even though this was from the 70's.
1. Tangled Up in Blue - i did enjoy the story of this one, and it definitely is keeping my attention. 2. Simple Twist of Fate - i kinda like the theme of this song. 3. You’re a Big Girl Now - this one was a little more boring, the lyrics didn't capture me 4. Idiot Wind - this one is ok, it's a bit more upbeat but the way he says idiot is annoying me lol. PS 7 minute song, it's a bit much. 5. You’re Gonna Make Me Lonesome When You Go - 6. Meet Me in the Morning - this one is a little repetitive. 7. Lily, Rosemary and the Jack of Hearts - almost 9 mins! I don't mind the melody of this one, and appreciate trying to tell a long-running story but it's a little too long to keep my attention. 8. If You See Her, Say Hello - nice theme, very slow to me. 9. Shelter from the Storm - this one was ok, pretty similar to the others. 10. Buckets of Rain - this one is a little different style more acoustic guitar rather than harmonica. Overall the songs had really interesting structure to me since a lot of the songs did not have choruses and were all verses. Seems to have a very strong emphasis on lyrics. He also has an interesting vocal style to me, I think it works for his style but it is very distinct. Honestly a lot of the songs on this album sound very similar, so it's cohesive I guess, but it gets a little samey same.
Upon listening to this album for the first time, I felt like I was listening to an album by Zap Brannigan from Futurama dedicating an album to his heartbeak from Leela. I can now see where the team at Futurama got their inspiration from. But geez for a 15th (!!) album its not half bad, is it? Not my usual fare, however does have some kind of a nostalgia attached to it, perhaps from the musings of Zap. Best: Lily Rosemary & Jack of Hearts Worst: Buckets of Rain
2nd Bob Dylan album so far. I like it, but... I don't really "get" Dylan yet (In my 30s now lol). This is fine and all, but I expect lyrically dense music to jump to the forefront of my mind. This turns itself into background music very quickly for me (basically everything after Tangled Up In Blue). Not sure why necessarily, but here we are. Solid 3.5 rounded down per protocol.
good country but pretty boring, did not finish
Ok
Quintessential dylan
A goodie
I'm far more familiar with Dylan in the 60s than this, even though I know most people consider it his biggest masterpiece outside of that era. I'm giving it a 3 now just from my first listen in a long while, but I can tell it's going to be one i'll enjoy a lot in the future. Dylan just always takes some getting used to and some time is needed to really dive into the album. Especially when there's a couple of songs on here pushing 8/9 minutes with almost no break in the lyrics. Another hit from Dylan.
Idiot wind - Dylan diss track. Everything on here is great!
Good album.
Possibly my most controversial rating yet... I enjoyed the melancholy sound of Blood on the Tracks. It is sad, gentle, soothing and moving in places. On a first listen, I found many of the songs disposably and samey. However, others stood out. "You're gonna make me lonesome when you're gone" was a real highlight. Simple, sad and beautiful. Also really enjoyed 'Tangled up in Blue'. I'm no huge Dylan fan, more of a Dylan skeptic really, but I (vaguely) understand the love for this album. It's got something to it, but it didn't resonate enough with me to give it anything higher than 3 stars. Not bad bobby, might give this another spin.
Better than i thought s bob dylan album would be
I think I have listened to this album 6 times now. As a professed hater of anything Dylan, I feel like each time I listened, I found something I liked or enjoyed. I still find his voice to be very annoying, but somehow, it seemed to work for quite a few songs off this album. At times, I felt like I was listening to some of my southern fried rock bands, but their mellow stuff. Either the way, the pure dislike of Dylan went away with this album. I found the very first song and the very last song to be my favorites, with a couple more in the middle that were solid. Really enjoyed Tangled Up In Blue and Buckets Of Rain. Tangled because it was just a solid song and Buckets Of Rain because it made me think of my wife. Anytime you can get me to think of Mindy, your song will scored high. A couple of others like include Meet Me in The Morning and If You See Her Say Hello. Kinda felt his heartbreak on that one. Just looking and seeing Dylan, I already had a 1 score and shitty review pre-written in my mind. This album changed my mind. Not that I'll become a big Dylan fan, but this album changed some feelings about his music. 3
CHEGA!!!
Good album. Sounds like Bob. We’ve done a lot of Bob at this point.
Dylan does not disappoint, but there are better works of his.
Tangled Up In Blues // Simple Twist of Fate // You’re A Big Girl Now // Idiot Wind // You’re Gonna Make Me Lonesome When You Go // 3.5/5
I know people hate to hear it but I love Dylan's songwriting I just wish someone else sang the songs. In spite of this it was still an enjoyable listen.
You're a Big Girl Now and Idiot Wind were standouts. His voice became grating towards the end of the project but overall it was a solid listen. Thankfully Bob Dylan got better albums than this otherwise it would be clipped
Liked it fine
2.5
Good Album
classic
Favourites: • Tangled Up in Blue • Lily, Rosemary and the Jack of Hearts
Love Bob Dylan. This was a good album. highlights were Tangled up in Blue, Simple Twist of Fate, You're Gonna Make me Lonesome When You Leave, and Shelter from the Storm.
Favourite song: Tangled up in Blue
I still don’t get it completely, after many listens
Really awesome and classic songwriting in this one
"Bob Dylan...he plays the guitar. Then he plays the harmonica around his neck. The man's considered a genius by everyone. In and out of music. Beyond music. He's a poet. So anyways, he plays the guitar, then he plays the harmonica, and that's a really talented man. But if some guy puts cymbals between his legs and he's a one man band, people say "wow what a re*ard". I mean that's way more talented." Norm MacDonald This is a pretty solid album. Dylan's a great songwriter.
For the love of god, why do people love Dylan? I really don't understand it. I really really don't understand it.
I've always said that Dylan's songs are better when someone else sings them. But there are some great songs on here, my favorite is Tangled Up in Blue (though I like The Whitlams version better)
I have no nostalgia for this. Every song sounds the same except for lyrics. Idiot Wind
I thought I didn't like Bob Dylan but this actually decent: I have realised that I am a sucker for finger style guitar and how it sounds so satisfying to listen to. This album definitely catered to this need BUT it did tail off at the end. Started strong with the second song actually hitting but after that it all seemed to merge into one and sound the same. I wouldn't listen to the whole thing again but maybe individual songs from the album.
Bob Dylan is one of the greatest story-tellers/poets, but melodies, and mostly his voice, do not add that much to his performance. Nonetheless I get that the melodies have to be simple to easily tell the tale. But still... I think we are judging execution as a whole.
Бардовская песня... занудные, затянутые песни.
It's Bob Dylan, what else is there to say? You probably love his lyrics, and it's a coin flip whether or not you can tolerate his vocals. It's a solid album for Dylan, but not something I'd find myself listening to regularly.
lot of harmonica; made me think of billy joel’s ‘The Stranger’. Fave Track; tangled up in blue
didn't like his voice at the start but it grew on me as the record progressed, paired with lyrical content i can see the appeal! though it's still not the kind of music i personally enjoy. once again maybe it's a right mood thing
Fav idiot wind Least fav simple twist of fate, idk man it’s hard to pick Glad this was my first Bob Dylan Album
Is Dylan over-rated? We shall see I guess - first album im listening too of his ever!
3.4 A surprising lack of harmonica, not sure how I feel about it... Fave tracks: Tangled up in blue, simple twist of fate, shelter from the storm
Firstly, I will note this is my 7th Dylan album here. I, for one, think that's too much. That said, this particular album is probably on the better side of those 7.
Best Dylan album I've listened to. Normally hate his voice, but one of the more bearable albums
I thought I was good. I don’t typically listen to Bon Dylan. I recognized a good bit of the songs.
I actually liked this Bob Dylan album. Nothing i would come back to though. Idiot Wind is great though.
Not my favourite Bob Dylan album and I am not the biggest fan of this era either. Solid album though.
3.5/5
I was expecting not to like this album going in, because I'm not a fan of Bob Dylan's voice. And after listening, I'm STILL not. But I liked these songs way more than I thought I would, especially "You're a Big Girl Now" and "If You See Her, Say Hello". I definitely would have rated this higher if someone with a better voice sang this album though...
I love the track, Shelter from the Storm. Tangled Up in Blue is good as well.
Not bad
Nice and folky
3.5
I feel like I was supposed to like this more than I did. Maybe it was just the day or something. Then again I've been through this record before and again didn't /love/ love it. Def there is lots of classic stuff in here but I think Dylan specifically has better and hopefully more consistent. Giving a 3 but it's more like a 3.5
Bello, ha un che di malinconico.
- Nice bluegrassy vibes - Could be a camping sountrack - Better than yesterday's Bob Dylan - Favorite songs: If You See Her Say Hello, Tangled up in Blue
- Preferred this Bob Dylan over other albums by him - Still a great storyteller - More enjoyable
I like Tangled Up in Blue
Honestly, a pretty good showing from Dylan here. He still indulges his worst tendencies to have songs run on endlessly, only to fade out after seventeen verses of tiresome references. Less would genuinely be so much more. The fact that he sounds like that is honestly what I mind the least about Bob Dylan. At least he tells some alright stories on this one. But please. Some radio cuts, please.
2nd BD album in 3 days. I can't take this anymore
I think, objectively, this is a good album. The songs all have some passion and energy to them, they're well crafted, and the melodies are nice. I'm generally not a fan of Bob Dylan, but I did have quite a nice time with this one. He needs to give his harmonica a fucking rest sometimes though.
Despite the incredible songwriting, a lot of this album just sounded far too similar. Likely to require more than just the one listen to really appreciate it. Standout tracks: Tangled up in Blue You’re a Big Girl Now If You See Her, Say Hello
Not my favorite Dylan album but also not a bad one.
I give this album 3.5 starts. I enjoyed it, it made me want to drink whiskey and sit in the dark. I was particularly fond of Meet Me in the Morning and Buckets of Rain.
Enjoyed it musically, but found the vocals grating after a few songs. I know I’m not the only one that feels this way lol.
I know many people like this but it definitely is not for me. Next.
I don't really care for Dylan, but there were a few songs in this album that I enjoyed.
Taattua Dyllee
This is ok
Meh, its good but not my style
Blood On The Tracks is average Dylan. To die-hards it probably holds up, to the casual it's nothing special but it's an easy and accomplished 3/5 listen.
Same thoughts as on our last Dylan album - although I think the lyrics and the storytelling are a level up on this one. He stretches his voice a bit too far in a lot of places though, which is really jarring, and probably stops it from being a 4. 3 (if I'm allowed to give a 3).
Highlights: "Tangled Up in Blue" Dylan's pretty open about gambling with ideas in his process, with every verse being a foray. It works best when he has a subject that matches that style, wandering and dissipation/transformation, which is what makes "Tangled Up in Blue" so strong that it kind of undermines the rest of the album. "Jack of Hearts" is fundamentally different, pure entertainment, but most of the songs in the album have their themes and sentiments already contained or superceded by that first song. Critical reception seems mostly hung up on how to read Dylan's life into this album, which is a big part of its popularity but also something I'm totally uninterested in. When he's open about playing around with meaning and seeing what truffles he roots up, it does belie his seeming wisdom as aloofness. "Idiot Wind" feels unfinished, a bundle of dead ends -- I can understand why fans reach after wartime allegory to justify it. His more cryptic ideas, like in "Shelter From the Storm," are for their own sake.
A good Dylan album
Listened Before? N This is a very good Dylan album. I prefer his more unrefined early stuff, but I did like it quite a bit. The record flows very well from beginning to end (something I feel Dylan has trouble with at times) and it has a high production value. I liked the deep cuts better than the singles here. Added to Library: N Songs added to playlist: Lily, Rosemary, and the Jack of Hearts
This album is not as boring as the previous 2 albums (or I am getting used to it?). What I am not getting used to is his voice/singing style. I can't get past the fact that it sounds like somebody is making a parody of Bob Dylan, but it is actually just him.
No me gustó. Tiene un estilo demasiado country, y la voz no me transmite nada. Tuve que saltear varias canciones y no pasé de la 4 que terminé sacando el álbum.
Bit long. Genuinely a good album though.
i feel no feelings about bob dylan
His voice is tough for whole album
Lots of storytelling and emotion
This is definitely another singer songwriter
not that great. just not a fan of bob dylan's voice. 3/5
I’m not a Bob Dylan fan but this album is okay.
Can't help but think that Bob's songs would be infinitely improved if only he didn't sing them. All those album sales and a career spanning a thousand years proves me wrong I guess.
3,5
I liked listening to it as part of this project, but probably won't return to it on my own.
OK, not a huge fan of Dylans' voice
More Bob Dylan? Ok I suppose.
Folk. Aburrido, qué extraño....
Stop trying to make me listen to Dylan!!!
What if Bob Dylan wrote more normal songs and sang in a less annoying way? You'd get a more generic album. Sure it's less harsh on the ears, but it's more forgettable. It's very telling that the number one most upvoted FIVE STAR review for this album features advice on strategies to get through the album "if you find Dylan’s vocals unbearable". That's from someone who LOVES this album!!! Honestly. It's completely fine. I'm glad it gives boomers boners or whatever.
I get it. But not my jam. 3 4 me
I liked this better than that live album of his I got awhile ago. The pace of this was much snappier and it was more listenable. I’m still kind of ambivalent about Bob Dylan, though.
He's a bad singer, who writes decent songs with good lyrics and bland predictable chord progressions. I truly thought this would be great, but it is no better than good in my opinion
My wife is a Dylan fan and we have most of his 60s stuff on vinyl. This feels much more polished and less raw than the 60s era. I like this album but maybe not as much as his earlier albums but maybe I'm indoctrinated.
Better than the other Dylan albums so far
Dylan is a legend for a reason. weird but interesting voice, captivating lyrics, solid folk sensibilities. Not for me, but i get it.
Pretty good Bobby D Shelter from the Storm was the first Dylan song i heard and Ive always loved it
Top 3 Songs: 1 - Tangled Up in Blue (1) 2 - Idiot Wind (4) 3 - Meet Me in the Morning (6)
I don't listen to a lot of Bob Dylan but I have listened through this album previously. It's enjoyable. Nothing mind blowing to me, it's good. I guess I might not be the biggest Bob Dylan fan.
It's Bob Dylan. Some good stuff, some mumbly stuff. 3.5
Funcionou melhor para mim, começou bem e manteve o interesse no folk.
Not my fav Dylan
2.55 with a round up to 3 based on his legendary status.
Some of it was lovely, but some of it was so basic. I also have issue with the top review's dig at people who think that good poems don't necessarily make a song amazing as 'pop lovers with 3 minute attention spans'. Some of us can just see past the hype and see a decent poet with average backing music and a slightly grating voice. That said, this was my second favourite of the 95 Dylan albums that are on the list.
Chill but not one of his bests
I actually really liked this album. Maybe changing my thoughts on Dylan. Not the whining like a rolling stone that I have in my mind.
Buen disco, la voz de Bob puede volverse monótona. Track 4 joya. No puedo escuchar el disco completo, demasiada letra. Todo igual. Le pongo 3 por la importancia del personaje.
I don’t like bob Dylan, but the album is pretty good.
The Dylan sound.
I just can't get into Bob Dylan. Album was decent, but I will need more listening to fully appreciate. Favorite Track: Shelter From the Storm
Rustige muziek die goed te luisteren is. Vaak ook in vetellende vorm. ***
I like folk but I've never really gotten into Bob Dylan much. This one is fairly enjoyable but nothing special
Folk style. Vocals are a bit annoying and most songs sound similar.
Exactly what you’d expect from Bob Dylan. Great folk music and good lyrics. Another classic that you can tell influenced a lot of music to come.
Not terrible. Some songs are good. But I probably wouldn't listen again
A few great tracks, but overall underwhelming... And his voice gets annoying after a while.
Nice. Thought it was going to be boring but it was more engadging then I thought it would be. Alot of music I like clearly draws from this which is cool to hear. See Declan McKenna. Listened to it on speaker sometimes more as background music which I think helped. I think I might enjoy it less if I had to give it my full attention. Idiot wind was probably my favourite.
Вполне по-классически стандартно
“Blood on the Tracks” is more focused, less filler, and less Dylan getting carried away with his voice and harmonica than on “Freewheelin’.” But it lacks the highs he reached in the 60s with his hits.
Not good, not terrible.
I like bob dylan and this sure is bob dylan but it’s not something I’d really listen to regularly like I would with highway 61
Better than I expected, but not life changing
Как альбом... Ну, всё таки тройку поставлю: он не так меня зацепил, хотя некоторые песни и понравились.
I have already covered my feelings about Bob Dylan. The album is better than some of the other Bob Dylan albums that I have listened to. The album is about 50 minutes. Some of the songs themselves were a little too long. I don't need multiple 7 minute songs. I cannot say that any of the songs are memorable. It is better than a 2 and is not really a 3. I will surprisingly round up and give a 3.
The songwriting is great, but I think I’ve come to Dylan too late - the Dylan babble/wail just doesn’t do it for me.
No soy mucho de Bob Dylan, pero tengo que reconocer que este disco entra suave y se deja deslizar , se escucha en un ratito y se me hizo ameno .
Banging tunes, too many lyrics, as per usual with Bob
One of the better Dylan albums.
bob really be hurting here
Bon album, je reconnais la qualité et l'impact, mais moins mon genre de son de Bob Dylan
Historier og harmonika, skæv stemmer hyggeligt, kræver flere lyt
Helt
Proud of U robert
lets see if i can stand it
Love and hate with equal measure.
First track banged than I forgot I was listening to it
Not my favorite Dylan album, but some absolute gems in there. The first 2 tracks especially are incredible. I know this was around his electric shift, but I'm not sure what all the hype was about--seems very tame.
Iconic sound with a classic 70s feel. Not a huge bob dylan fan, but found this album to be “good enough”. Didn’t notice any classic bon dylan songs on it specifically that were worth pointing out, but found that the beginning of the album was better than the end.
liked it a lot more than the live bootleg we heard. That being said, I think only half the songs were all that good. Another thing I noticed was that the longest songs were also the ones with the least going on. What's that about, Bob? 3/5
Though I'll probably never be a big fan of Dylan's by now, the twangy country is actually a touch I enjoyed more than I usually do. I like Dylan's more unhinged vocals on Tangled Up In Blue compared to the other material I've heard from him, but the signature vocal inflections do grow a little tiring the further you get into the album. I won't be returning to it, but it was enjoyable enough.
Yeah idk, I definitely have to be in a specific mindset to really get into Dylan. That being said, I think this is pretty good and fairly easy to sink into. There’s a “mature” and less rockin’ feel to this album, which makes for some interesting sonic developments, most of which make me think this’d be nice to toss on and sip coffee to on a Saturday morning. There’s a few long songs on here which kinda drag, but generally I can roll with this. 3/5
A winner, man, from Zimmerman 👍🏾
This is a very typical Bob Dylan sound and yes, his voice sounds like sandpaper. This really widens my music repertoire and I'm glad I got to know his work.
Tangled up in Blue. ..this is great Simple Twist of Fate...this is also great Third track...this is not good Fourth track...goes on forever...boring Fifth...yes he is back on track Sixth, seventh and eight...nope this is plain boring Shelter from the storm...this is good Final song...nope The good song are really good, the rest is not so good. His voice can be very annoying, I hate the Hammond organ.
Tangled up in Blue and Simple Twist of Fate are good songs. But not my favorite Dylan album. More classic than Time Out of Mind, IMO.
Not my favourite Dylan album but that doesn’t take away from the fact he’s a music heavyweight.
It grew on me after a few listens but have never been a big Dylan fan. I know I'm supposed to acknowledge his brilliance, it not him, it's me. 3.5/5
