I liked it but nothing stood out that much. I support Canadians though. Favourites: yyz (Toronto mentioned 🗣️) also I like instrumentals (when men keep their mouths shut), limelight, the camera eye. High 3/5
Okkkkk some Canadian representation. I liked YYZ (Toronto mention), Limelight, and The Camera Eye but I wasn't like super wowed by the album or anything. Overall, pretty average and there were some enjoyable tunes throughout. 3, I just didn't feel like anything really spoke to me or stood out and caught my attention

I love Tom Sawyer and didn’t know much about other Rush songs. It was great to hear some, but I could not listen to the whole album!
I just learned that Geddy Lee's instagram handle is @GeddyImages This was somehow both more and less cheesy than I was expecting based on only knowing Tom Sawyer/limited other Rush knowledge. YYZ made me want to play Mario Kart.
Great musically, but just for the life of me can't get over Geddy's voice...

I can’t think of a stronger hard rock opener than the classic mega-hit “Tom Sawyer”, and 80s Rush is all right sometimes, but you know what, for me nothing touches the duo of A Farewell to Kings and Hemispheres. I guess I’m bringing this up because whenever you mention Rush, someone immediately mentions “Tom Sawyer”. Yeah, ok. That’s a great song. But if when I say Rush you don’t immediately think “Cygnus”, you and I are hearing different things.

Very iconic 80s sound with theatrical chords and progressions. The vocals are tinny and vibrant, naturally melancholic sounding. Decent listen.
Tom Sawyer & Limelight are the hits. YYZ was a fun instrumental discovery. Didn't care for the rest of the album but it was okayish.
This was fine, some good classics on it. Not a lover or hater of Rush, and the same goes for this album.

Moving Pictures Things I know about Rush: - They’re Canadian - The song Tom Sawyer as it features so much in I Love You man - People cream themselves about Neil Peart’s drumming Things I know after listening to Moving Pictures - they’re Canadian - Tom Sawyer is an enjoyably fun prog rock pop song - Neil Peart clearly is a very good drummer, but he is very very busy I did like lots of bits if this but not sure I’m totally convinced by a whole album if it. Some of the guitar lines and synth parts were good. Limelight and Tom Sawyer are very good songs and stand out, while overall the rest does get up it’s own musical virtuosity bumhole a bit too much and his voice is quite annoying, which also makes the vocal melodies a bit tough to hang on to. It’s kind of fun though if you don’t take it too seriously. I think that’s why I don’t mind a lot of these prog records - I find the musicians seriousness quite amusing and subsequently I enjoy the music more. However I’m not sure that’s a basis for actually liking it. Not sure where to rate, I think I enjoyed more than Yes, but not sure if I would investigate much further. Maybe as I didn’t listen to it as much as I would have liked I’ll plump for a 3? ⭐️⭐️⭐️
Surprisingly better than I expected. I still hate Tom Sawyer, but that is classic rock radio's fault more than Rush's.

Listened to it running, and that is exactly the right place for it. It's about the right level of prog for me, but still a bit pretentious at times. All in all, pretty good, but I'm unlikely to go back to it.
Never listened to this album fully through, but I'm familiar with many of the tracks. \"Tom Sawyer\" and \"Limelight\" were everywhere in the '80s. I've nevber been a big Rush fan, but I understand why people love them - they were innovative and creative and their music is very distinctive. I'm between 3 and 4 stars - I could give it 4, because I think it's impressive, but for me personally, I won't choose to listen to it, so it gets a 3.

Long songs that all kind of sound the same
Couple classics, but as an album pretty rough. Some of the technical work in the "other" songs is good and very much foundational prog, but it's uneven.

Not a big fan of Rush but I’m not gonna sit here and pretend Limelight isn’t a great song. Overall though this isn’t for me and I don’t have much to say about it. High 3.
I thought it would be a fun listen with the classics, one of the best drummers who ever lived and a reputation for technical nerd music. But I was bored nearly the entire time. Maybe bc it's played out. The b sides while occasionally interesting were mostly anodyne and repetitive. I'm worried a lot of classic music will strike me this way bc even though they are beloved top tier musicians I still don't really like it.
It really strikes me what a beautiful voice the vocalist, Geddy Lee, has. I think it's an underrated thing with 80's rock bands in general. Rush, The Who, Journey - the vocals sound so similar, and the vocalists are so distinct that it cuts through in a noticeable (good) way.
Enjoyed the last half
If you downpitch the music so that Geddy Lee's voice sounds "normal", Rush sounds a whole lot like so many other rock bands from the 70s/80s. I don't like many of those bands. I kind of like Rush. I wouldn't say I like Geddy Lee's voice, but for some reason it's the key to me liking this band at all.
The opening one-two punch of "Tom Sawyer" and "Red Barchetta" is as strong as anything in classic rock. Those are Rush at their tightest, most focused, and accessible. Both have their eye rolling moments (a better, mannish time?) Of Geddy Lee excess, but both weave such enchanting atmospheres that all sins are easily forgivable. "Red Barchetta" in particular paints such a rich, water colored picture of youthful passion that even I'm drooling over muscle cars. "Tom Sawyer" is another song that resists going stale despite endless replays and mainstream exposure. It's still a sublime piece of Prog. "Limelight" is really the only other song that hits its mark. It's another didactic call to arms for artists, demanding purity, dignity and Valor. It's still a great song, and a better example of Geddy's writing. "YYZ" has not aged well and is a pretty wane instrumental piece. "Witch Hunt" is boiler plate Big Brother stuff, and "Vital Signs" is pleasant but forgettable. Perhaps "The Camera Eye" deserves closer inspection of its lyrics, but I don't feel like wading through its 10 minute runtime. Something about the cameras role in history or something. I dunno. Good album with 2 or 3 of Rush's best songs makes this an easy 3.
Tim Sawyer and Limelight are iconic songs and I dig them. The rest of the album…..meh. I respect and appreciate that Rush are incredible and talented musicians and are amazing at what they do. I just don’t dig what they do. It’s not for me. I’m struggling over whether or not my respect for their talent is worthy to upgrade them to a 3rd star. I don’t think it’s bad music.
Rush is truly a wild band. No one else like them. Virtuosity everywhere. Tough to knock it too much even if it's not for you.

Inject “Tom Sawyer” and “Limelight” into my veins and let me go quietly into the night on account of their bountiful rock. Unquestionably this oozes with musical talent. But if you understand the time signatures on this album, you are a nerd. Too difficult to adequately head bang to this, and at times it feels like experimental rock for its own sake. GOOD NOT GREAT
Very familiar with this one. I don't think I ever listened to this one all the way through but I've heard most of these songs. "Camera Eye" and "Witch Hunt" are the only two I didn't know.

Always been a band I respect more than I like. Loads of friends are mad into them, don't mind them being on, but I wouldn't put it on myself

YYZ goes hard. Lots of fun guitar so far. 10+ minute song lfg. Don’t love the singing, but it’s iconic. Neat!

Overall I enjoyed the production, it has a prog feel with 80’s production. The one problem I have with the album is Getey Lee’s vocals. When he’s more reserved I enjoy it, but when he starts going overboard with the vocals that’s when it loses me
Good album
When I was a younger man, learning how to play the drums, our reluctant bassist was completely infatuated with Rush. The bassist would much rather have been on guitar, shredding Tom Sawyer than whatever we were covering at the time. He was incredibly annoying. Turned me off of Rush for *years*. As an older man, listening to rush with fresh ears, perhaps it wasn't the bassist who was annoying. Perhaps we were annoyed by Rush all along. These guys are clearly stellar musicians. It's just not my taste.
Very strong start but a steep decline
Apart from the excellent Tom Sawyer, I'm not at all familiar with this album, and I wasn't sure why! After all, I was heavily into the previous albums, 'A Farewell to Kings', 'Hemispheres' and 'Permanent Waves'. So why not this? All the essential Rush ingredients are there, from Geddy Lee's distinctive vocals and bass holding everything together to Alex Leifson's inventive guitar, not to mention Neil Peart's outstanding drums. However, after giving it some thought, I realised that it was in 1980/81, just between the release of 'Moving Pictures' and it's predecessor, that I discovered Killing Joke and Bauhaus and, I would imagine, became very dismissive of all of my former musical tastes In a sort of cultural scorched earth policy. So, it's because of my unfamiliarity with the album that I can only give it 3*. Would I give it another spin? Probably, but don't hold your breath!

Some high quality songs in here. Really only recognized Tom Sawyer but found myself enjoying the instruments. Wasn’t too familiar with Rush at all.

Good at what it is
Not a big Rush person but I’m always happy to see Canada represented on the list.
This was actually a fairly enjoyable album. Many of the songs were long, too long, but they were good. Tom Sawyer is a banger. Witch Hunt is very good (in a different way). I appreciated the mix of instrumentals. I wasn’t thrilled by the singing, and the lyrics were mid. But over good. 3.5

Album has a quintessential 70's rock sound to it, but also has some very interesting electronic elements in the beginning(so far) maybe considering it is an early 80's album this makes somewhat sense. Slow start with some good but not too interesting songs in the beginning but picks up around the song YYZ, the instrumentals are more unique and little bit experimental? However it kind of goes back to classic 70s rock after it.

Another album with a strong opening track. Tom Sawyer was the only track I knew going in and it didn’t disappoint. Also liked red barchetta, even though it was a long track, which I usually don't like. Limelight is also a song which I might listen to again.
70s math, prog rock. In theory I should like it but I just can’t get into it.
Approx. 40 minutes. Enjoyed the high energy sound, drums, and vocals. Standout song - "Tom Sawyer". (7/10)
I used to love rush. i’ve always loved Tom Sawyer and still do. But, the music is a bit too hard now for these 63-year-old ears. But their music is amazing.

It grew on me after a couple listens, it definitely has its moments instrumentally and lyrically! Sounds like something that would be on the radio in gym class- I wouldn't be upset about it but I wouldn't actively listen.

I'm not a huge fan of Geddy Lee's voice (though I don't hate it either), so the instrumental YYZ is the best track for me. Second best morse code rythymed song (after the theme tune to Some Mothers Do 'Ave 'Em).
It's quite an accomplishment to make an album like this. That being said, it doesn't speak to me at all. I don't hate it. I appreciate the effort. There's good parts. The voice is probably an acquired taste that I haven't acquired yet. Favorite song: YYZ

A Prog Guy friend said this one is the best entry point into Rush. I can see it. Being a Canadian, I’ve heard their singles a million times on the radio, but associated their overall work with long, drawn out epic type prog. Was delighted this was 40 minutes long and all but one song was to-the-point. Still not exactly my thing, but a fun listen. Great bass stuff, too.
Admittedly, this is not really mu cup of tea. But I do really like the full on prog elements on this music. It feels like a step beyond Led Zeppelin, while opening the door for 80s metal and prog rock. Though, I do feel like this sound gets appropriated and is not fully appreciated. When listening in this avenue, you can really see and feel the vision of the artist and what they were going for. It works.

The first 3 songs were strong and interesting to listen too. The back half of the album felt bland and several songs went on for too long. I’m not too fond of the lead singer’s voice and I found it annoying after several minutes.

Despite a Standout in Witch Hunt, this album leans very heavily into instrumental work that just doesn't resonate with me.
I always find funny that Americans consider this iteration of Rush as "classic prog", for me (a European) their music was more of an "extremely technical power pop". However, it's very fine "extremely technical power pop". Neil Peart makes you want to drop everything out and learn playing drums like him. (I don't like numeric ratings, I just give 3 to anyone)
Good, but not my favorite
I was planning on giving this album 2 stars while I was listening. I felt the first few songs sounded the same. Then I listened to the last two songs on the album and they changed my mind. I was surprised that Rush's lyrics are deeper than I previously believed. I'm not a fan of the entire album, but there are a few standout songs.
I totally get why big prog rock fans would love this album and I respect that Rush is really good at the Proggy, spacey tunes. This is actually super great at times but Rush in a big serving for me is too rich, too much and I know this is unfair but 3 stars
Some talented musicians here, Peart a better drummer than lyricist, Lee a better bassist than singer. Despite this, you can see why their fans hold them close.
I'm a huge prog rock nerd and have an incredibly unpopular opinion: Rush is... not good. No, they don't suck but considering how good they are in many rankings I find them incredibly overrated. That goes for this album as well. 'Moving Pictures' is fine enough but when it comes to high nasal singers and complex musicality they are nothing compared to Jon Anderson and Yes. The album gets better later but it can't be saved from being medicore - especially considering that so many better releases came beforehand.
Added 4/7. Decent songs. Big arena sound for the most part. YYZ and Tom Sawyer are classics

Couple classic songs. Good length to enjoy without over doing it.
So much pomp! So much circumstance. The length of these songs and the altitude of emotion and all of them was really just too much for me to bear. I see now, after all these years, where they got their name. They are alive! This is happening! So is that! And the other thing! All of it! Put all the levels up! Every line is building, every chorus is a climax. You can feel it in your veins. Can you imagine the exhaustion they must’ve felt at the end of the show? There’s no “Let’s go grab a quick bite.” More like get me to the hospital for IVs and some incantation‘s to the gods of rock ‘n’ roll to restore their glam prana. Canadians, amirite.
Fun to listen to and there’s some impressive drumming throughout! Solid rock and roll and I have naught but respect for the dudes. I was hoping to have my mind blown by one of the deeper cuts though and didn’t happen.

Thought it would be better. Coming out of that Spirit album into Tom Sawyer was a breath of fresh air, but the rest of the album is not as good as Tom Sawyer.

listening to this and just thinking to myself "...what is so special about this?" do people think this is objectively good music? This does not fit my definition of objectively good. There's nothing really fascinating to me except for the fact that its prog in the 80s but like ok??? damn all prog rock sounds the same. I will say though, the opening track is good. And the little switchup on YYZ is decent also! Like this record its pretty decent its just uninteresting to me, and lacks overall depth that I crave in music. The second half of the record is 100% better than the first half, however A4 (Limelight) is by far my fav song. i also think this might be a slight grower but only SLIGHT. The closing track is also great and a wonderful way to end the album.
I always liked Tom Sawyer and had no clue it was co-written w one of the Max Webster dudes. Neil Peart's drumming is top shelf and highlighted on this album. They're a band playing three instrument rock / prog rock in the 80s and not adding anything new and interesting to the sound. I'm close to a plus 1 for Peart but Gary's consistently high pitched vocals take the bump off the table.
This is a definite step up from the hard rock/prog of the 2112 LP. The sound is more mature, and full for a trio, with minimal overdubbing. On some of Lifeson's guitar solos, Peart & Lee are jamming like freeform jazz musicians in the background. It's easy to see how they gained such loyal fans, especially among musicians. "Limelight" and "Tom Sawyer" are good 80s radio songs.
My first introduction to Rush was in the late 90's when I was a teenager and I was listening to a DJ Qbert mixtape and he was mixing and scratching Tom Sawyer. Became somewhat of a fan but never listened to a whole Rush album. Solid album, Neil Peart is a drumming god.
I've heard a lot about prog rock and Rush over the years, mostly bad, but this was my first time listening to them. And it wasn't bad! Dare I say it was mostly enjoyable! I don't necessarily think that I will re-listen to it but I wouldn't be opposed to hearing it again.

A bit shocked I liked this more than I thought I would. Lee’s voice is not my fave but it’s tolerable, and some of the tracks were listenable. Would prefer a heavier production and less synths. My ex is a bit of a Rush fanboy and he’s a musician who can’t enjoy a gig for scrutinising the musicianship, which says it all. Fave track is Witch Hunt by far

I think Rush has created masterpieces in individual songs. Here, I really enjoy Limelight, while Tom Sawyer has been overplayed to the point I don’t want to hear it for many years, probably (perhaps if I had some Cheeto dust to snort…). Much of the rest of this sounds like show off prog to me without actually going anywhere that interesting. I don’t connect with it.
Never been a fan of Rush, the singer’s voice turns me off. The album was alright though.

The production is way too clean! There's a whole bunch of stuff I could like but it's way too polite. I'm betting that they'd sound much better live.
First half is great, maybe a 5,music for music nerds with some amazing stuff from Neal Peart. Sadly by the end I'd had enough of the vocals and I think, for now, this is a 3 for me.

He hires Jason Siegel to be his best friend. They’re only pojnt of bonding is that they like Tom Sawyer by Rush. Therefore, I added the song to my library and have been skipping it everytime it comes on. I was prepared to slap a 2 on that song and the album, but it was actually good. Hey, look at us. Who would’ve thought? Not me.

Sometimes the vocals are jarring but all around its a very good, but pretty basic album. The instrumentals do not miss. The first half of the album is almost perfect, and the latter half is pretty decent. Definitely a strong 3/5 is felt, almost a 4, but not just quite there. Favorites: Tom Sawyer / YYZ / Witch Hunt

I've just never been a Rush fan, though I get why people would like them and respect their musicianship. Unfortunately this listen didn't bring me any closer to being a fan but I didn't hate it, just won't be adding it to my regular rotation anytime soon. Standout Tracks: Tom Sawyer, Limelight

Another solo wu tang album that is magnificently produced and has excellent flows. I still think I like liquid swords more but the first like 5 songs on this are all bangers especially shaken dog, the champ, and . The sheer star power of both the features and the production are also insane and works as a great bridge between old school 90s rap and more melodic 00s stuff, back like that and it’s remix with Kanye come to mind the most.

Moving Pictures is the eighth album by Canadian rock band Rush. This progressive rock album was a critical and commercial success, almost topping the charts in both Canada and the US. It remains Rush's best-selling album in the US and has been certified 5 times platinum. I had heard of the band Rush before, but I don't think I could have picked out any of their songs until listening to this album. They made a great album here that focused on creating "radio-friendly" songs (shorter tracks) and I think it paid off. It's an awesome progressive rock album.

Seems to be a clash on this between some really interesting and forward-thinking instrumental passages, and all the lame overblown tenets of classic rock we've come to expect. Those vocals, yeesh. I'd get into some cool syncopated rhythm and then be rudely interrupted by this insipid worm of a front person. That's a bit harsh but I wanted to use the term insipid worm. Two and a half. Fave track: Limelight

Kinda went by me without making an impression. It is ok, i guess.
Enjoyed a few parts of this but overall was a shade too classic prog for me. 'A' the band, who I loved as a wee nipper, were big Rush fans but I never bothered to seek Rush out. Not many similarities between the two. Guess we'll see if the next album is any better!
Prog Rock isn't really my thing, but I can appreciate that it is a pretty solid album.
I’m afraid this album confirms, rather than challenges, my thoughts about prog rock. That is, the musicianship is superb, the compositions incredibly clever, but the whole is somehow less than the sum of its parts when it comes to my enjoyment. 3*

This has a classic 80s sound, I feel like people who really love sci fi stuff in the 80s wouldve loved this as well.

A música que mais me interessou foi a instrumental e não teve nenhuma que não gostei efetivamente. Acho que é um álbum sólido, que demonstra o estilo da banda, sem enrolação e consigo entender o motivo de ser uma banda famosa/consagrada - mas não acho que vou adicionar nas minhas playlists.

Never listened to Rush before. Was somewhat underwhelmed, though the guitar was good.
Many call it a prog rock gem but I think that the album has more accessible rock songs than prog. Perhaps I still need a few listens of this album, because I'm not 100% sold on it - yet.
Love prog rock, love the musicality of this album, can't stand the vocals. It's frustrating, but it started with Rush's other album '2112.' I could never get into it because it just felt too shrill for me. Because of that, I never got into Rush or tried any of their other albums. So I was a little excited when this came up. I thought, maybe, that things would click a little better with this album, but in the end they just didn't. The vocals were still off-putting to me, and made the album unenjoyable to listen to.

Starts off very strong, kinda trails off by the end. Rush was never really a full album band for me. This is another 3.5 that I have to round down to a 3. Also, I think Limelight is an overrated song. Standouts: Tom Sawyer, Red Barchetta, YYZ
I like the pomposity of this - knowingly clever and clearly demonstrating prowess. At the same time, only Tom Sawyer has a hook, and that is a pretty proggy hook. Won't be putting the album in heavy rotation, but that mad jazzy rocker is in the 'liked songs' folder.
Not for me
I have tried to get intro Rush mulitiple times, but I have always failed. On paper, Rush ticks all the right boxes for me: rock with a prog edge, great instrumentalists, great production values. But in reality they just ... don't. There is something about their songs (at least of that era) that just leaves me unengaged. Even though I can hear their brilliance on an intellectual level, it just fails to reach or move me more directly. Which is a shame. I guess that means 3/5.
It's like a musical theater rock album. I don't know why it made me laugh. Maybe I'm losing my mind.
I approached my second Rush album on here with trepidation, after all 2112 didn't leave me feeling very optimistic. My overall verdict is that they are an incredibly talented band (minus the singer), that too often make unfortunate choices with their music. Most of this album is decently listenable, and then YYZ just goes way harder than it has any business doing, that song single-handedly earns these Canucks 3 maple leaves. If only all their songs were instrumentals... 🍁🍁🍁
Not exactly my thing but definitely not bad. Each song was quite unique and had good production.

I’ve never listened to Rush. The vocalist has a nice enough voice, and the writing is catchy in spots. I don’t see myself returning to this one.
Didn't really get into this one, although by the end of the second listen I started to see some of the progressive elements in songs like The Camera Eye, Witch Hunt, and Vital Signs which are probably my favourite from this album.
Rush didn't seem to make much of an impact in the UK - not among my friend group, anyhow. I never listened to them back in the day. Perhaps I'd look on them more fondly if they were getting a nostalgia bump? That not being the case, this leaves me a little cold. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ Fave track - "Tom Sawyer", I guess? Seems familiar to me - definitely seen it used in soundtracks, but didn't know it was Rush.

Okay, this album was a roller coaster of emotions and not in a very good way. The best thing about this album is the instrumentals they got that in point but, the vocals and lyrics just don’t back it up as well. Tom Sawyer and red barchetta were so good but the vocals just ruined it for me. There’s a reason why YYZ in which he vocalist says 3 lines got nominated for a Grammy for best rock Instrumental. The last 2 songs I actually liked the vocals but they diminished the quality of the instruments so it just felt a bit odd. Vital signs surprised me since everything worked well in it, I think is my favorite song from it. I guess they saved the best for last. 7/10 would be a 8.5/10 if the vocals did Justice from the start.

Un album extrêmement particulier de la part de Rush. Après avoir rendu en préambule un vibrant hommage au personnage emblématique de Midi les Zouzous avec le célèbre refrain "♫ Tom Sawyer c'est l'Amérique pour tous ceux qui aiment la liberté. Il est né sur les bords du Mississipi, Tom Sawyer c'est pour nous tous un ami. ♫" chanté dans un français parfait, le chanteur quittera le studio et ne reviendra que par intermittence pour nous chantonner quelques âneries supplémentaires. Étonnant.
Cet album est passé en coup de vent, tellement que j'avais oublié de l'écouter, lui préférant l'album des Cocteau Kate Bush Twins generé juste après. Un choix qui était probablement le bon, puisque je viens de perdre 40mn a réécouter cet album moyen de plus.
I wasn't too familiar with Rush, I guess I was in need of some prog rock today, as was digging on the guitar work. Enjoyed it, but doubt it's something I'd frequent.
My first Rush album, and it was more or less what I expected. Sometimes enjoyable, sometimes meandering, always technically excellent. My favourites were Limelight and Vital Signs, which might be the least proggy tracks. Coincidence? Probably not.

But in all seriousness many songs in Moving Pictures would work well in any playlist (or mix-tape - let's keep that theme going), for a huge gaming sesh or even a workout sesh. For a band's eighth studio album that ain't bad at all in my books. Best: YYZ Worst: Witch Hunt

Well, Tom Sawyer was unexpectedly short and tight. When it went into 7/8 time I was thinking, here goes 12 minutes of my life! Limelight was also very good. Everything else was a bit dull for me. Incredible musicianship, not much in the way of tunes. But it'll do.

Rush was part of my adolescence. 2112, A Farewell to Kings, and Hemispheres, were never far from my turntable. Unfortunately once Moving Puctures arrived, Rush was part of my past. I had moved on to punk, new wave and alternative though those three mentioned still have a place in my heart if not on my turntable. So how dod I like Moving Pictures? Not very much. The songs I knew; Tom sawyer and Limelight suffered from over exposure and among the other songs nothing really grabbed me....perhaps with a few more listens....but I somehow doubt it. 3 🌟
Never knew that the sound of '80s rock could be turned into a progrock journey. Rush particularly did this well in their famous "Tom Sawyer". The idea of using synths to amplify a spacey atmosphere is not that new (probably, this was 1981 after all), but I never heard anyone did it as well as Rush. "YYZ" is also a notable mention. This instrumental track reminds the listeners that they're still a progrock band, with top-tier instrumental prowess. It's rhythm is apparently inspired by the morse code of "YYZ". dah-dit-dah-dah dah-dit-dah-dah dah-dah-dit-dit. Can you hear it? The rest of the album is okay. It got some occasional WOW moments. But overall, the album sounds like a complex version of '80s mainstream rock. It's just okay. I dunno, maybe it's Lee's voice.
I'm never really sure what to make of Rush. I don't love it but it's definitely interesting.

Never quite managed to get into this, I wanted it to either get rockier or proggier, but it just seemed to sit somewhere down the middle.

I’ve heard a few Rush songs in the past, it’s the genre of music that could pass me by. Of their time, not bad by any means but it hasn’t held the test of time very well.
Thought there were some notes of early primus and even som guitar that sounded a bit like phish. Overall I was impressed with a few of the songs (xyz especially) and thought that the 40 minute run Time went by crazy fast. Agree with Pat that I’ve never been a big fan of rush. Listening to the whole album gave me a better sense of their sound and earned a higher rating from me.
Tom Sawyer is always rockin. Camera Eye a rager that was new to me. Still, album seems a bit one-note at times, but maybe that's just Rush to me. Interesting that there's only ever a lead singer - no backup vocals, etc.
Even as as non musician, the time signature changes are wild.

I consider myself a fan of prog rock. I count Yes, ELP, Genesis, and Procol Harum among my all-time favorite bands. So while listening to this I was trying to figure out why I've never really connected with Rush. There's no doubt they are extremely talented and proficient on their instruments. I think it's that they lack any sort of emotional connection. Their music is super precise, but it sounds as if it's being played by a computer. It's lacking any type of human feel to it (for me at least). It's a good album but I can't get past that aspect. 3 stars.

I remember putting together my iTunes library as a youth when that was still a hot new thing. When it came to Moving Pictures, I enthusiastically added Tom Sawyer, ambivalently added Limelight, and passed on the rest. A decade and a half later that is still pretty much the takeaway. "The Camera Eye" and "Witch Hunt" were actually kinda fun too, but nothing I fell in love with.
Knew a couple of songs, Tom Sawyer and limelight. Giving a three could be four if it had one more standout song. Enjoyed it
