Weird to say I'm surprised at how good that McCartney album was

Really good album and cracking cover

Crazy high quality record from Macca, all the good bits of the Beatles with ballzier production. Loved it, outstanding. Best track: Jet

One of my favorite albums of all times!

Sensacional. Clásico. Impecable.

O maioral sem contestação 1000000/5

God damn I loved this

Brilliant album by a songwriting master. Almost perfect. There’s a couple of lightweight songs, but they don’t bring down the overall greatness of the Album and the great songs are pop masterpieces. Truly one of my favorite albums. 4.8 I’m bumping it up to a 5.

How is it possible that I didn’t know this great album?

5/5 Favorite Songs: Band on the Run Jet Mrs. Vanderbilt Let Me Roll It Nineteen Hundred and Eighty Five

Loved this album, very familiar with it and it's a joy from start to finish

1st song starts off like 60’s Beatles-influenced rock then becomes distinctly 70’s soft rock. The rest of the album is like “The Beatles, part 2” but missing a key ingredient

Great album.

Easily my favorite thing Paul McCartney made, including his Beatles stuff. Jet goes harder than any non-metal/punk early 70s song has any right to be. But I've never actually paid attention to the album cover so holy damn why are James Coburn and THE Sir Christopher Lee posing for this? That alone makes the album 5 times cooler.

Classic, more or less solo, album by Paul

What a great record. McCartney at the height of his powers.

Melhor solo do homem

Idk why I thought I wouldn't dig this..... but I do in fact dig this.

I’ve listened to this album probably 50 times while doing the dishes or folding socks; and loved the listen. I am so grateful to have had this generator to allow me the space for sitting my ass down with headphones on. I am smitten;…and can only ponder how great the Beatles could have been despite their singular parts. I love this album. I am happy it exists. My first 5/5.

Some of McCartney's best

Never thought I’d say this, but including this on the 1001 list actually degrades the album! This is one of those rare records that works equally well as a casual listen, a deep dive or on endlessly replay. 5+++++

All timer

Screw it, I sang along the whole way. It's his best solo work by far. It sure sounds like patchwork but it's gorgeous like a mosaic. The synths are also so timeless, they all feel like I could pull them out of a Logic preset, but they just patched or dialed that stuff in! Awesome moment for Paul to prove he just needs to be Paul

Great listen

F*ck it, this is 5 stars already, one of the best albums Paul McCartney recorded, I freakin' love it, I've listened to it countless times!

Not a single boring melody on this one

(6 estrellas)

This Paul guy is pretty good

5 This was great. Bluebird, let me roll it, nineteen hundred and eighty five... wouldn't be at all out of place on any Beatles album quality-wise Third listen and I'm upping it to a 5

Absolute beauty

Band on the Run is the fifth album from Paul McCartney after The Beatles broke up. It has been hailed as his best work by many critics. It has two hit songs that I have heard many times. As I stated about Elton John's album a few post back these songs meant something to me as a child. These are the songs that I can pinpoint that I remember hearing as a child. Everything before this is blurry mess. I am not saying this was not a mess, but this mess has music attached to it. The two songs that I had heard as a child are "Band on the Run" and "Jet". They are both great, but the latter is my favourite. I cannot explain how I feel when I hear this song. It sounds like victory! I thought the only lonely face was mine, but I knew the moon was sad too. I was living "Band on the Run". It was my life with my mother. She was always running, running and running. If we played music it would have made more sense to be on the run. It would explain why we moved so much. In my imagination, we were touring the world, but only a small piece of it. We were like The Partridge Family without the instruments and without the voice to be heard. My other favourite songs are "Mrs. Vandebilt", "Bluebird", "Let Me Roll It", and especially "Nineteen Hundred and Eighty-Five". It is a great tune with McCartney singing in a different voice. The whole album is a masterpiece. All the songs are listenable to awesome. I did not feel the need to skip even my least favorite song. McCartney has elevated himself to the status of superstar with this album. 10/10.

One of the better pop rock records of the seventies. The list of great songs is impressive, and the musicianship is of course very solid. McCartney’z best.

Generational bangers on this one. I remember being told that this album was Paul McCartney's opportunity to show that he was a singular talent apart from the Beatles, and he really did show that with this album. This is my first perfect rated album. Favorite track is Let Me Roll It.

THE BEST ALBUM EVER

For rock lovers this is like a sweet treat to vibe with.

Iconic cover, legendarily difficult recording circumstances and arguably Paul's finest post Beatles music. Two huge hit singles to follow the Bond theme that year helped but the quality of the album tracks make this album what it is - Bluebird, Let me roll it, No words, Miss Vanderbilt and Mamunia are all fine songs. We forget that in 1970-2 it was George and John who were setting the pace in terms of critical and commercial achievement, and now Paul was preparing to get his second global superstardom. A great album and, along with 'All things must pass' and 'Imagine', the best Beatle solo album.

its always been fascinating to me just how Clean and Composed this record sounds despite coming out of famously disastrous circumstances. and i dont just mean in quality, tho ig thats true too....it rly is one of the most front-to-back pop rock records ur ever likely to hear, and a true McCartney Paradise if his instincts and ideas feel as much like home to you as they do to me. but i mean more in just overall feel....its sonically antiseptic, not one rough edge to be found, and feels very closed off to the outside world even by mccartney standards. perhaps not the ideal for Rock And Roll or whatever, but every song is like its own little Dream in a way thats easy to love. i do think i'll always prefer the warmer, homemade feel of ram, but ram's approach can't pull off the Pop Epics the likes of which open and close this record...and the material inbetween is every bit as creative, instinctive, and charismatic. probably no album is worth almost catching cholera over, but this is closer than most!!!!

My first non Beatles Beatles album so far I think! This was pretty good! I had heard "Band on the Run" before obviously, but "Jet" and "Let Me Roll It" were the standouts for me here. Also enjoyed "Mrs. Vandebilt" and "Bluebird" and "Nineteen Hundred and Eighty Five" were decent as well.

A smooth, easy five stars. 9/10

I got a vinyl copy of this just a couple weeks ago, so been listening a lot lately. Banger after banger. Even the corny 'granny' songs as Lennon called them are undeniable bangers. The title track is genuinely one of the best things Paul McCartney ever wrote, then you have his best melodic instincts on so many of these, like Jet, Let Me Roll It, Mamunia. I'd argue that this is the second best solo Beatles record behind All Things Must Pass (sorry John)

I've already listened to this album this week on my own. It's one of my favorites! The production & clarinet solo on 1985 is enough to give this album a five.

I think I have a crush on Paul McCartney and if I'm honest it would explain a few things. I think more people should start a band with their wife and pal, and this is some of their best work, even if it was basically just a Paul solo effort, writing and playing everything on the record. What a man.

Perfect album. "Let Me Roll It" and "Nineteen Hundred Eighty Five" are in my top10 Macca's songs - that's including those with The Beatles.

Excellent assortment of catchy songs that proved he still had it. I love the guitar and synths on this album.

Magic, sooft, so confortable to ear and thinl in your life with kindness.

Amazing

I think Paul may be the best songwriter of all time. Not lyricist! But he just always seems to know exactly what every song needs. Dude could draw a melody out of a rock

5/5 I guess I was spoiled by the Beatles' discography, so everytime I listened to a solo Lennon or Harrison record, there would be a different Beatle song missing to make it perfect. However, for the first time, I find a solo Beatles record not to lack absolutely anything. The songs are catchy and memorable, with the singing and playing being great.

Tekee hyvää astua ennakkoluulottomasti oman metalli- ja punk-kuplan ulkopuolelle. Sieltä voi löytää täydellistä korvakarkkia, kuten Paul McCartney & Wings. Aivan huikea levy, huikeita biisejä ja tietysti älytön soittotaito. Pitää otteessaan alusta loppuun asti. Ihan toisen kaliiberin teos kuin listalla aiemmin vastaan tullut toisen beatlen George Harrisonin albumi. Vaikutelma siitä, että sir Paul on yksi aikamme suurimpia lauluntekijöitä, vahvistuu tämän albumin myötä. Erityisesti pidän flirttailusta biiseissä toisten biisien kanssa. Bluebird ja Jet nousevat suosikeiksi, samoin Let me roll it on erinomainen. Tosin huonoa hetkeä ei löydy. Kiitos sir Paul! 5/5

Fantastic record, with a nearly perfect A side, some all time great hits, and some of the best bass playing you’ll ever hear. Somehow, I feel Paul is underrated as a bass player. The final two tracks do bring it to an odd conclusion, but I think there’s easily enough substance here to make up for it. Pretty easy 5.

Just so fun and listenable. I knew I would love this one.

I had really low expectations for this album by reputation, but really enjoyed it. Just a set solid songs well played. Definitely will be listening to it again.

Mamunia and (especially) Picasso’s Last Words are weak points for me, but otherwise a great great record!

Best post-Beatles album so here's Fire Joe Morgan/Newman track by track analysis "Band on the Run:" The olleeee three songs in one (think "Happiness is a Warm Gun") done spectacularly. "Jet:" Earwormy shouty fun. "Bluebird:" Let's bring it down for this next, chill, number ... "Ms.Vanderbilt:" ... to come back with a rousing chorus number. "Let Me Roll It:" Roll it up, Macca. This one feels at home with the end of 'Abbey Road.' "Mamunia:" Pretty all right ditty but not too much to speak about other than Paul and Wings did two albums in 1973!?!?! 'Red Rose Speedway' is all right; this album is tremendous. "No Words:" ... "Picasso's Last Words (Drink to Me):" Drink-a-long song apparently written as a dare. "Nineteen Hundred and Eighty-Five:" Wow, what a song. And then to end the song/album on call back, just chef's kiss.

My second favorite post Beatles Paul record, after RAM!

Certainly a classic pop/rock album by one of the best singer songwriters of all time.

es realmente buenisimo, no tiene un skip porque todas las canciones son buenas. te amo paul mccartney

Holy peak

Such an enjoyable album to listen to. Good vibes all around and even listened to it twice in one day because it was just so wonderful.

8/10 Nice album

Quintessential Paul. How can I not love it? Has a case as the best solo Beatle album.

Paul Fucking McCartney

Every song is a hit. Really love this album

Best post breakup album by any Beatle (along with RAM but THATS NOT ON THIS LIST FOR SOME REASON)

Me trae mucha nostalgia. Asimismo, la mezcla entre rock y baladas, es fascinante. Parece que Paul tocó la batería en este álbum. Ese dato me sorprendió muchísimo, porque suena muy bien. Simple, pero queda perfecto.

Elite. The big singles are some of McCartney's best work. The album tracks are real nice and underrated. The title track is peak classic rock. Not much more needs to be said.

Very good album, definitely my style, great instrumentals and guitar work. Good mix of up beat and emotional songs. Band On The Run and Bluebird were some standouts.

Paul McCartney never stopped making great music.

fuckin rocks

Amazing. So many great songs I’ve heard before. LOVE the sound of the instruments. Loved the singing most of the time but didn’t like one of the voices on the album.

Im unfortunately a Paul McCartney apologist so this was always gonna be a 5. Bluebird and No Words were especially wonderful

This guy sounds really familiar I wonder if he was in a different band before

When I was in middle school I would pretend that the guy on the bottom right was the 10th Doctor and that he just passed by for the Band On The Run photoshoot

Quite simply s classic. Both Band on the Run and Jet sound timeless today, as i can only imagine they did on release. Bluebird and Mrs Vandebiliit are prime cuts of McCartney melodic storytelling, but Let Me Roll On it is the true star. It is the most Beatlesy song here, especially the riff that permeates throughout. Some more classic stories, including a revisited snippet of Jet before you reach another of the album’s highlights Nineteen Hundred and Eighty Five before Band On The Run gently wanders off the stage where it came in.

Oh we're back to "albums that got played a lot in the house when I was little". Both parents were fans of Paul McCartney (my mother's favourite Beatle, though not my father's: he was a George Harrison man) so this was in regular rotation. Unlike most of those albums however, this did not leave much of an impression and I've never listened to the album as an adult. I take after my Mum Beatles-wise, so really like Paul's vocals and Paul's writing. I really like Jet, Mrs Vanderbilt, Let Me Roll It, No Words (love the Bee Gees vocals!), Picasso's Last Words (Drink To Me), Nineteen Hundred And Eighty Five... it's probably easier to list the songs I'm not so fussed about to be honest. I like the instrumental choices on this album a lot - lots brass and woodwind and strings. I will say that, I'm not sure a solo Beatle album can ever really surpass an actual Beatles album, but also it feels wrong to judge them in that way. In it's own right, this is a really inventive, interesting album that doesn't outstay it's welcome. And Paul's voice remains beautiful. I'm not sure why this didn't grab me as a kid, but I love it as an adult. 5/5

Amo esse. Acho que sempre vou associar com a pandemia: Foi um jeito de escapar pra uma existência mais feliz. Feliz pelo Paulinho e seu álbum cheio de hits, um dos momentos mais legais da carreira solo.

Really good! Definitely one of my favorite Paul McCartney/Wings albums! There are some lighter, more acoustic tracks and then some more rock-oriented tracks, which balances out the album perfectly.

I only know one Wings song (Let Em In) and it's a song I love very much. Of course Paul McCartney's famous offerings in the Beatles are hits for me, too. I think he's a great writer with a gift for making simple melodies and chord changes go a long, long way. I'm excited to listen, even though I have less than a sparse idea of what kind of band Wings actually is. 1. Band on the Run - I like the harmony lines in this tune. It seems like one of those non-sequitur songs, like Good Vibrations or A Day in the Life. I guess it depends, but I'm not always into those songs. Don't feel like the groove can really get going well if you keep interrupting with other textures. This one I dig though, mostly because the last section of the song (the actual "Band on the Run") lasts pretty long and allows me to get into it. I enjoyed that lush pastoral harmony thing in the beginning too. 2. Jet - gotta say I love the feel of this one too, switching between the fuzzy driving bass thing and the more laid back reggae skank. It works well. I'm not sure I remember much of Paul as the Beatles' bassist aside from Come Together and maybe Something, but he's got great feel here and I think his feel plays a lot into his writing style. Long bass pedals (technically) with chords changing over top seems to be a hallmark of bass-minded players. I'm definitely gonna hit this album again because I know I'm missing a ton in all that's going on in this track. The form seems pretty loose but I'd like to hit it again. And oooh that ending. Sexy. 3. Bluebird - man I love the melodies this guy writes. They are always so sweet. "Imma bluebird imma bluebird", I'll be singing that all day. Can't wait to sit down and listen to the lyrics on this album again, I know they're similarly sweet and evocative but simple and easy to digest and remember. Even now while typing I caught "Fly away through the midnight air-As we head across the sea-And at last, we will be free" simple af but man the feels. How do you get to writing like that?? See whenever someone rips on me for getting emotional about "Let Em In", they're just dead inside. His writing is very touching. This song is so so nice. I'm going back and forth between stank face for the band and blushing at how pretty this is. Makes me want to get off my ass and practice so I can write something that makes someone feel this one day. ** I just found out that Corrinne Bailey Rae did a cover of this on a tribute album?? About to be my jam for the year. 4. Mrs. Vandebilt - now the last song felt so removed from Beatles sound, but this one feels more in line with their later stuff. That's not a bad thing, just interesting I guess. Very bridge tone bass against loud acoustic guitar, drums in the back on the ride EXCEPT the kick which is right up front. Again, this may be the hookiest mother to ever live. "ho hey ho", stuck in my head already. I don't think I would have enjoyed this as much if it were on, say, Let It Be, but the arrangement here is much more than it probably would have been there. It also looks like Paul and Linda mostly did this album on their own? Get those specific white folks genes and lemme know what the lab turns up. Lennon doesn't have the sauce like this. I'm bumping to a song called Mrs. Vanderbilt. 5. Let Me Roll It - woah man, the reverb. Anyway with that initial melody line, Joshua Tree garners more to dunk on. I didn't even find it that singable right away, but it's way way more catching and interesting than anything on U2's album. This is gonna be the one that I have to get into but I'm gonna end up loving most. It'll be like, #2 when I start putting this in my rotation. Not a giant fan of that guitar riff throughout being SO damn loud. It's a little unpleasant. I read a lot of people saw this as a pastiche on Lennon's solo sound (unintentional) and I kinda hear it. Maybe that's why it's a little low for me right now. May get a little higher as time goes on though. 6. Mamunia - this song is a good example of the funk being present in non-funk songs. That descending line with the bass is so tight and on the one, I can't help but bob my head. It's not traditionally what I'd call funk, James Brown wouldn't be there with the Ohio Players or EWF. But it has a good feel. Also love the #4 change instead of going right to the 4. I think the full descent is a Paul McCartney sound, so it's nice that it was subverted in a cool way. Pretty melody as well, expected. 7. No Words - this whole album has a very Little Foot feel, or I guess the opposite may be true. It's got that mid-70s rock but super r&b harmony filled plus orch thing going on. Maybe it's a Wings original thing and everyone else is copying? Idk I'll look into it. Again what I was talking about last album, the link between the soul and the country sound profile is here again. Twangy guitars but churchy harmonies on top with a rhythm section driving it. 8. Helen Wheels - **omitted because I guess I'm listening to the UK version. I'll come back to this one.** Okay I'm back. Knowing this song is about a Land Rover pulls that shuffle right into context. LOVE this guy's melody writing. That "HELEEEEN" is catchy and the "never gonna take her away" actually gave me legit involuntary stank face. Yah this would have fit in great, wonder why they omitted from the UK release. 9. Picasso's Last Words - cheeky arrangement stuff here. Clarinet? And oboe. Sounds very Fool on the Hill of him. Also, yeah it includes the other songs on the album. Jet shows up in this song, not like a quick blink and you'll miss it riff. The whole arrangement just toned down. Same for Mrs. Vandebilt. This is a little strange, I've seldom or never heard this done that way. Beautiful bass melody near the end. Oh man, do I like Paul McCartney as a bassist too? Never thought about it. 10. Ninteen Hundred and Eighty Five - here's that sound again. That 70's easy listening/yacht rock thing. I can't think of many bands off the top. Pre Aja Steely Dan? Doobie Brothers? I like it, regardless, just interesting to hear that Paul McCartney did it too. I really wonder how much of an influence Wings had that I may not know about. Using the mellotron again, I see. Uh, hear. Crazy ending to this song. Big ass orch hits leading to like 10 secs of the initial track on the album. Ties it up nicely. It's a cute way to do it (non-derogatory). Gotta say, I really enjoyed myself here. Coming in with more of a "Let Em In" expectation as opposed to a Beatles classics one helped me loosen up a bit maybe? I dunno. That sound I was talking about is great in the right dosage to me and I think this was it. I couldn't listen to Steve Miller or the Eagles all day, but I think that sound coupled with the extra strong melodies and intricate arranging on this one could probably get me 2, *maybe* even 3 listens in one day. I'm gonna put this one in my rotation for sure, I'd like to learn these songs for myself. I think I can probably take a lot of writing stuff from here, especially since I've always admired Paul's writing chops on the Beatles stuff I do like (most of it is his stuff). Excited for more Wings stuff and to hit this one again soon. **I hit it again the next day and remembered a lot of stuff. Melodies, changes, words, rhythms. And all very enjoyable to sing back. This is gonna be a 5.

One of my favorite album untill now. McCartney is a great musician and singer.

The man is legendary and this was a soundtrack of my youth

amazing spectacular give me 14 more

Excellent songwriting

Highlight of McCartney's post-Beatles career. A few epic songs. One or two not so but nicely weaved into the album. Band on the run also the highlight of his Glasto set. Definitely an album to listen to....

This guy could write!

Elite album. Had a lot of fun listening to it and it just reinforces my belief that Paul was the true heart of the beatles and not lenon.

dit album was even een adempauze na al die andere shit albums, ik wist gelukkig wat ik hiervan kon verwachten en het was toppie

Love the vibe. So nice and warm

Great album filled with a variety of catchy songs to fit all manner of moods.

Really enjoyed

Overall a catchy and pleasant album.

I made jokes about yesterday's album that there was a song just for me (Percy's Song), but Mamunia is actually what a song just for me would sound like (a pro-rain anthem). I am a little confused by Nineteen Hundred Eighty Five, but i like that it calls back to Band on the Run.

AMAZING. FOREVER LEGENDARY

372/1089 - Great varied textures and melodies throughout! After watching the Get Back documentary from a few years ago I think Paul and Ringo are my favorite Beatles.

Consistently great album. Feel-good rock classics.

Mis canciones favoritas: Band on the Run, Bluebird y Nine Hundred and Eighty Five.

8/10 it was a whole experience honestly, the vibes were there the whole time. The album felt very cohesive and it was very beautiful.

Up there with Ram, peak McCartney/Wings. Listened to the version with Helen Wheels included as a bonus track.

Loved this album! Will listen again. Liked the first and last song. Perfect length

Ive always been a fan of a few Wings songs like Live and Let Die and Band on the Run but never listened to any records until now. This has been my favourite of the year so far. Amazing vibes on this album. Jet is such a great classic rock song, the little guitar riff during Let me Roll it, the ditty piano melody on Nineteen hundred are all amazing and really good ear worms. Will definitely be in rotation for a while to come and looking forward to more Wings

MC’s best work since The Beatles. This album has so many tracks that are definitely 10/10 such as the title track, “Let Me Roll It”, “Mamaunia”, and “Jet”. Some of my favourites that still sound fresh considering the album is 50 years old

Some of the best all time

Continuing my Liz Phair briefly interrupted run of great classic rock albums leads me to this one. I was lucky enough to see Paul McCartney play live, and as I am more a fan of the Lennon penned Beatle’s tracks, it wasn’t his performance of his own Beatles songs (think Ob-La-Di/When I’m Sixty Four for example) but his Wing’s tracks that made me cry with joy. Such nostalgia, such a wondrous album. Literally.

Easily one of the greatest albums of the 1970s. All the songs flow together, and there is not a bad song on the whole album. I have known about this album but never really listened to any other songs besides Band on the Run, which I loved. None of the other songs disappointed! Each one was also different from the others, which was a plus.

I really liked this!! Easy listening and have already revisited. Good for office listening and I can totally see how it influenced pop music as we know it today.

There's a reason Paul has been writing songs for damn near 70 years. He's a master at it. This album is fun and there's more hooks than a bait and tackle shop. Loved this one.

Me encantoooo. La verdad q no lo conocia. Disfrute todos los temas

Here’s an album that is part of our collection, so we dusted it off and played it for the first time in about fifty years. Other than the title track, which I hear a lot, there are several other good songs here. Much more creative than most of the stuff I hear nowadays.

Everything about it is great (but especially the "Let Me Roll It" riff).

I loved this album!! Will definitely be listening again. Perfect 70s vibe. Upbeat but also chill enough to study while listening.

Love this work. Always have and will

Crisp sounds, so melodic

Always loved this album, this time was no different.

paul i love you ao hard paul please take me wherever you want my sweet hearts

I love the bass especially in Mrs. Vandebilt, I love that song. Band on the run is also a classic and a masterpiece, the transitions are so cool along with the entire song. I also love the last track it feels so different. I love the piano and synths.

Loved it,.classics, will be listening to it again

I swear anything Paul McCartney touches turns to gold (fuh you incl.). This album is so fun and filled with Whimsy. Title track is obviously a classic but the whole rest of the album is just amazing also.

Another one I own a copy of. This gets regular play at my house when I’m up early on the weekend. The perfect album for a cup of coffee and a wake & bake. Objectively, George’s All Things Must Pass is the best Beatles spin off album, but Band On The Run is my favorite. Just a joy to listen to.

The strongest start to finish McCartney record, though I also think Ram should have been included in the book. Tbh, Ram is more a “must hear” album in the sense of its influence and uniqueness in his catalog. Anyway, BotR is a blockbuster record that lives up to the hype, probably the only other post Beatles record that did (alongside All Things Must Pass)

This album fucking rocks, Pauls voice is unchained. I’ve heard Jet hundreds of times, but I listened to it for the first time and I really took it for granted, might be my favorite song on the album. There are 5 all timers on this.

I just ... What is to be said really, This is one of music royalty owning it. So sure, I could say it isn't super my thing or that it is kind of too pop rock or ... but as far as it goes, this is actually fantastic.

absolute classic and one of the best albums of his imho. my first love <3

Classic

Growing up is realising Paul McCartney was the ace of the Beatles. He doesn't have the raw charisma of John and he isn't as likeable as George, but he is just a powerhouse writer and performer. This is only a small notch below the best Beatles albums, but it's phenomenally written and produced.

Band on the Run is the album where everything finally clicks for McCartney after the Beatles, the moment he proves that Wings are not just a side project but a fully formed band. It feels adventurous, confident, and endlessly inventive, moving through styles and moods with an ease that only someone with McCartney’s melodic instincts could pull off. There is a sense of freedom running through the record, like he is shaking off expectations and just enjoying the act of making music again. The songwriting is ridiculously strong. The title track alone feels like several great songs stitched together seamlessly, while “Jet” bursts out with pure energy and “Bluebird” floats along with effortless charm. Even the quieter moments, like “Let Me Roll It” and “Nineteen Hundred and Eighty Five,” have a sense of purpose and personality. There is not much filler here, just song after song that sticks in your head and refuses to leave. What really makes Band on the Run special is how alive it feels. It is polished but never stiff, ambitious without being showy, and packed with melodies that feel timeless rather than nostalgic. Decades on, it still sounds fresh, playful, and confident. It is not just one of the best post-Beatles albums, it is one of McCartney’s very best full stop.

I saw this was my album of the day and cheered. If you're reading these bottom to top you'll see this is my first Beatles or Beatles adjacent project and you will get to learn that I love the Beatles. So, Band on the Run was the third album by Wings, Paul McCartneys band following the split of the Beatles and (without checking) his 5th release since the break up, and I know that because I know this album was important. McCartney 1 was (rightly) seen as a bit rushed and under-developed and RAM was (not rightly) unappreciated at the time despite later being seen as massively influential and the first two Wings albums are not particularly incredible, even if I like Red Rose Speedway. This album was make or break for McCartney, but McCartney is a workhorse and so he released this album that, all things considered, should have failed. Just the main three members of Paul and Linda with Denny of "The Moody Blues" recorded this in the Bahamas if I remember correctly and that meant that not only did Paul suffer heat stroke but the first set of recordings were stolen right out the studio... and despite all these set backs and trials this album is fantastic. Starting with the opening track of the same name, until the middle you are presented with absolute masterstrokes that not just re-establish but reaffirm that Paul can and WILL write fantastic hits, Beatle or not. From the scraping guitar on Jet to the harmonised vocals of Blue Bird to the absolute bassline on Mrs. Vandebilt to the excellent performances on Let Me Roll It, the first half of this album is absolutely perfect. That isn't to say the second half is bad, I'm hesitant to even call it worse but it's a lot more melancholy and gentle, when I was younger I'd have been a lot more concrete on that line but no the second half is definitely still good just less intense and energetic, until it ends on Nineteen Hundred and Eighty Five which falls right back in with a mix of build up and phenomenal performance and gentle harmonising over just a piano. A perfect end off to what is an album that I have no issues or drawbacks in. A pretty perfect 41 minute experience top to bottom. Best songs: Band on the Run, Let Me Roll It Worst song: N/A Rank compared to everything else so far: 1/22 (above Maxwell's Urban Hang Suite)

This is one of my favorite albums of all time, damn near perfect

Hadn’t really listened to anything besides the hits before - really love the whole album - my kind of music !!!!!

Very nice

One word I can use to summarize Band On The Run is catchy. Comparing the Beatles solo careers is interesting because McCartney's is definitely the most pop-like. Lennon leaned more towards the experimental side of rock and roll, and Harrison was more spiritual with Eastern influences. (Mr. Starr doesn't have the same career as the others.) But McCartney just enjoys creating catchy rock/pop music. And to be fair, his music is very good! This is an extremely well-crafted, thoughtful album. The title song returns in the last few notes of "Nineteen Hundred and Eighty Five," and "Jet" and "Mrs. Vandebilt" are in the middle of "Picasso's Last Words (Drink to Me)". (I suspect I missed some others, so I can't wait to discover them in re-listens.) I love when artists do this, and how Paul McCartney and Wings do it is nothing short of masterful. Only one song, "Bluebird," didn't interest me, but the other factors of this album are enough to give this a 5.

Great album

"Drink to Me" burde spilles på alle barer idet de stenger.

Album #4: Band on the Run - Paul McCartney and Wings Genre (according to Wikipedia): Rock, pop rock Singles?: Mrs. Vandebilt, Jet, Band on the Run Have you heard any songs from this album or group/artist before?: Not with Wings, but yes with Paul McCartney. Of course I’ve heard a lot, perhaps all, of his stuff with the Beatles, and the two collaborations he did with Michael Jackson. I have also listened to his album McCartney, his song “Coming Up”, and his duet with Stevie Wonder “Ebony and Ivory”. Thoughts?: True classic rock right here. I remember listening to music similar to this all the time with my mom. She always played a classic rock station, 98.5 KFOX, the South Bay’s classic rock. It’s how I got my music taste today. Anyways, despite the tough conditions, one of the best things about Paul McCartney is his ability to make great music within said conditions. He and his wife are great songwriters, and I can understand why this album has been a critical darling. I love the sound of this rock, it sounds authentic, true, real. Maybe it’s cliche of me, rockist even, but I love this type of music, and I wish more people listened to it instead of the manufactured stuff from the music industry today. In a way, it sounds a lot like The Beatles (especially Jet). Favorite songs: Side One, Mamunia, No Words, Helen Wheels, Nineteen Hundred and Eighty Five As a writer, what can you use this music for when honing your craft?: I wouldn’t use this to hone my craft, I like to use different kinds of music for this. This won’t do but I love listening! File correlations: If I had to say something, File #003: American Peas.

Such a great album. Has so many bops!

The common sentiment I heard about Wings was 'ugh'. Those people don't know what they're talking about. (Or there's some resentment about Paul leaving the Beatles when they were getting more rock-y experimental and less of a 'boy band'.... and then he does Wings, which veers back into fun territory, not hard enough for the 'serious' listeners) This album is catchy fun with fantastic melodies and journeys. I will listen to more. Made my day.

Wow, so many good albums lately. Hadn’t heard this one before but recently watched a Todd in the Shadows video about Ringo’s band (or album?) being named Wings despite it already being the name of Paul McCartney’s band. LOL! Anyway, wow. Really good.

I love Band on the Run. The fact that this album was released on my birthday is more than enough.

5/5 coming back to this realizing how peak it actually is

Classic masterwork

The Beatles were always going to be a hard act to follow. The commonly accepted wisdom is that the songwriting partnership of Lennon & McCartney was the key to the Beatles success, and out of those two Lennon was the key figure. However, it’s interesting to look at their respective post-breakup albums to see how that theory holds up. George dug deeper into mysticism, Ringo invited his celebrity chums into the studio for a jolly singalong, Lennon (who hated what he called Paul’s Granny music) released a bitter howl of betrayal aimed at his former partner, and Paul took two introspective solo albums and two more with Wings before he hit his stride with this one. The original lineup of Wings had drifted away leaving just Paul, Linda and Denny Laine to work on this, with Paul pretty much in charge of the process. For various reasons they decided to record in a ramshackle studio in Lagos, contending with numerous problems including being mugged at gunpoint, risking a cholera outbreak, Paul passing out with breathing difficulties from a bronchial spasm and facing disputes with local musicians including the legendary Fela Kuti. The end result is excellent though, and stands comparison with anything that Paul produced with the Beatles. The opening two tracks were released as singles and are genuine bangers, and the rest of the album has a good range of styles and themes from boozy drinking songs to a heartfelt message to John in a 50s style on Let Me Roll It that may have helped heal the rift between them. The album closer 1985 (which probably felt impossibly futuristic at the time) is another great track and still feels fresh with its use of synths. Dammit, this deserves 5 stars! Macca-tastic!

This is an easy 5 for me. A classic album that I have loved for a long time. I have always been a big Sir Paul fan. Ram is my favorite of his post-Beatles solo stuff but this is a close second. Very fun, some African influence. Band on the Run and Jet are stand outs to me.

so good, let me roll it sounds like The Cars almost. Ahead of its time

I like this. 5 star.

Sooo great! Easily one of the best non-Beatles records, Paul is probably my favorite Beatle post break. This one is just so good.

Not the best Beatles solo album, but great. I just saw him live and it was the best concert I’ve ever been to.

Absolutely beautiful. 5/5

Overall, very solid and classic album. you can tell that this was an album of 1000 ideas... some finished and many pieced together, which is what makes it magical. great first two tracks - then a couple smaller ones (Bluebird feels like they couldn't come up with lyrics and just had Bluebird as a placeholder that stuck).

Finally, an album I can give 5 stars. Thank you Macca.

yo how is this not 5 stars, my favorite so far

Just brilliant! Opens up with 3 dynamic and really catchy tunes and although the rest of the album isn't quite at that level, it stays pretty high up. Love the interesting production sprinkled throughout as well.

This is the peak of Paul's Wings era, perfect from start to finish

Incredible!! It was very nice to hear this one.

Band On The Run, "Wing," every song on this album is great! What a wonderful life Paul had with Linda. Not enough is said about Linda and what a terrific songwriter she was. Rip Linda.

Baby was grooving to Jet. The first some reminded me of Bahamas. Wonder if he gets his inspiration from Paul.

Band On The Run is one of my all-time favourite songs and I think this entire album is fantastic. This is a nostalgic one for me because my parents had this CD when I was a kid so I heard it throughout my childhood and have grown to appreciate it more and more with age. I've always loved Band On The Run because it has multiple distinct sections that build nicely throughout and the story of the "band on the run" is fun too. It kinda reminds me of Bohemian Rhapsody. I honestly think this album has no bad songs. Each song has a unique musical style, which I really appreciate, and the lyrics tell interesting stories. I like that the last few songs include snippets of the earlier songs on the album. It creates a really cohesive and thoughtful feel. I love the instrumentation too, and the inclusion of organ, saxophone, clarinet, bassoon, cool percussion, etc. Paul McCartney is my favourite Beatle and I really like his work with the Wings. 9.5/10.

The best post Beatles album by McCartney. Still holds up as entertaining all these years later.

Band on the run is fucking great. I'm pretty sure I heard that "wooohooo oooh ooo" on Jet somewhere Mrs Vanderbilt is a banger too Let me roll it omg let me roll it to yaaaa

Amazing

This album is just brilliant. Ram will always hold a special place in my heart but this one is still insanely good.

Wow, what an album! I am writing this review while listening to it for the second time. Although I had never before listened to the whole album, I was familiarvwithbsome of the songs, if not mostbof them, I am sure I had listen to them in easy listening radios before. I love Paul McCartney, it os really hard for him to write a bad song. All of these songs were so good, so many catchy melodies and great lyrics that just made me happy. I think it also reflects how much talent he borrowed to The Beatles. An easy, easy 5

It’s hard to pick a fave, but I think this is mine for the best post-Beatles album by any member!

Best McC and Wings album. Band on the run is probably one of the best songs he has written this side of the Beatles.

Great Album straight through. Crazy this came up right after seeing him and really diving into this album. Probably my favorite Wings album.

classic - middle is less catchy for sure but band on the run through jet goes hard

fantastic album

I love this masterpiece amazing beautiful product of love

Já conhecia algumas das músicas, mas foi muito bom escutá-las de novo, assim como as outras do álbum. O Paul é um artista que definitivamente mudou a minha vida

It's kinda silly but this album has some of my favorite cover artwork of all time. Band on the Run is catchy as all hell and the production is tight, tight, tight. What's not to love about this record?!

You telling me it’s not “Man on the Run”?!

9/10 Favourite: Band on the Run Least Favourite: None

really good

An excellent album from Paul. A classic!

Really enjoyed ever song on here but my favorites were “Band On The Run,” “Let Me Roll It,” and “Nineteen Hundred and Eighty Five”

One of the best solo Beatles albums and one of Paul’s greatest works during his solo career, along with RAM. He really likes sprinkling in some bits of cohesion to make it almost seem like the album’s a concept album, with the last two songs having reprises of other songs. It really isn’t but it was fun to hear that for the first time when I did my first listenthrough. I love this album and I’ve spent a lot of time with it.

Album 905 of 1089 Paul McCartney and Wings - Band On The Run (1973) Rating : 5 / 5 This is an easy 5/5 for me. A really fine album all the way through. Hard to believe I’ve been listening to some of these tracks for over 50 years now. The songs, the musicianship, the performance, the production - it really does have it all. Sure, a track or two may not soar quite as high as the others, but overall this is as solid as it gets. What makes it even more impressive is that it was recorded under tough circumstances. Two members of the band had just left, so the album was essentially made by just Paul, Linda, and Denny Laine - with Paul playing bass, drums, percussion and most of the lead guitar parts. You’d never know it from the final product - they pulled it off brilliantly. From the title track to “Jet” and “Bluebird,” it’s loaded with standouts and has rightly earned its reputation as one of McCartney’s best.

"In 1973 i was a pre teen... and i had always loved the Beatles... and i hated that they were making solo records... but, i loved every one of them... The "Ringo" album for example... Lennon's "Mind Games" and before that, all the solo stuff he put out after the break up... i loved... and, of course George Harrison's "All Things Must Pass" and "Living In The Material World"... all fantastic records that, sort of, satisfied my need for all things Beatle... i also LOVED what Sir Paul was doing, of course... "Uncle Albert/Admiral Halsey" was SUBLIME... and "Live and Let Die"... and the "Red Rose Speedway" album this very same year of '73... and, as i recall... Paul and Wings put out a single... "Helen Wheels".... that i really liked... it's on this album... but, it came out before the album did, if i'm not mistaken... then came another single... "Jet" and i started to see the album in the store... and i knew i had to buy it somehow... but, unless it was my birthday, and i was jobless, lol... i had to do with those two songs... all of a sudden, in the Spring of that year a song came through the airwaves that really grabbed me... it was the title track... "Band on the Run"... it was a suite, ala "Uncle Albert", and late Beatles' stuff... but it was IMMACULATE... and beyond sublime... i begged, and got the album... opened it up to fine Paul had recorded this in NIGERIA, and played and sang all the parts, basically... Denny and Linda definitely contributed... but, the immense talent of Paul was on full display... and more than that, it was the songwriting prowess.... Three hit singles... and i haven't even mentioned "Picasso's Last Words"... or "Bluebird"... or "Mamunia"... and the album closes with "Nineteen Hundred and Eighty-Five"... this is a masterpiece... an all timer... FIVE STARS... every day of the week..."

What a great fuckin record! And the album closer is one of my faves.

Some hits, some new to me, overall just great

4.5 rounded up. McCartney solo career is best encapsulated by this album and the two lead tracks, with a strong supporting cast throughout the album. Some songs are notably weaker, but altogether it's a great listen.

Vous m’avez eu à “Paul McCartney”. Excellent album !

First time I've listened to Band on the Run the whole way through and thoroughly enjoyed it! Five stars, will listen again when I have the chance.

Oooh I massively like - I never got round to trying it until today :)

It’s pretty cool to get George Harrison’s All Things Must Pass, which was incredible, and then Paul McCartney and Wings’ Band on the Run just days later. It gives you a chance to listen and compare solo work from two members of the best rock and roll band ever. I thought Harrison’s All Things Must Pass clearly showed he had the best solo stuff of the Beatles, but when you listen to Band on the Run, you might rethink that just a bit. Band on the Run wasn't as epic as All Things Must Pass, but it’s a damn great album. I’d listened to it in the past, but not more than a few times. Again, I was a metalhead for half of my life before realizing there are other kinds of cool music. Band on the Run has great songs, but unlike All Things Must Pass, some of the song lyrics are just words that sound good together. McCartney was someone who could write a song with placeholder lyrics and then decide those lyrics were good enough. For instance, Jet is a song about McCartney marrying Linda McCartney and how her father wasn’t a big fan. The title comes from the name of a dog McCartney had, and the song appears to be sung to Jet the dog. At one point, McCartney sings, “And Jet, I thought the major was a little lady suffragette.” McCartney said he just liked the sound of the word suffragette and put it in the song. I’m not saying silly lyrics are bad, because they aren’t. I’m not much of a lyric guy anyway; I like a song more for its groove. I’m just saying that Harrison had maybe the more thoughtful lyrics. However, McCartmey’s songs are so good, you don’t even care. Much like All Things Must Pass, Band on the Run doesn’t have a bad song on it. In fact, when the album came out in 1973, the U.S. version had an added song, Helen Wheels, missing from the U.K. version. Helen Wheels itself is a banger. As for which had the Beatles' solo work, I still give Harrison the edge, at least in quality. McCartney has the others beat on quantity. Band on the Run is an incredible album and probably his greatest work beyond the Beatles.

Damn most of The Beatles really were spitting out some heat after they broke up. Not you, John Lennon. Always fun getting this so close to George Harrison's post-Beatles solo album - and as someone who generally isn't a huge fan of The Beatles, these solo records actually rock. The first 5 songs are such massive bangers it's shocking that I've never heard them before. Jet especially - fuck that song was catchy. In fact, almost all of these songs are catchy. It's very rare to listen to an album where the first 5 songs are all single worthy earworms and I caught myself humming to them all individually across the course of the day. I have so much to say about all those songs individually but they are all just so damn catchy I don't really think it's worth spending the next 20+mins writing about them. They're all so fucking good. Best songs, in order: Jet, Let Me Roll It, Band On The Run, Bluebird, Mrs Vandebilt Once you get past the insane run of earworms things start to drop off a bit. Mamunia is still a good song, but nowhere near up to the standard of the previous 5. Mamunia sounds like a Beatles song that was cut and just slapped onto this thing. Still, it's a good song. Picasso's Last Song was also a catchy tune which I enjoyed. That's pretty much it, it's just a good song. I can't in good conscience give this anything less than a 5 given the impression the first half of the album left on me. On top of that every other song is still quality enough that I'd consider them 4.5's. That level of quality should not go unappreciated. Incredible album. Not as emotional or thought provoking as George Harrison's solo debut, but this thing does strike me as a more radio friendly solo record. And it shows.

Perhaps it's due to the title song and the albums focus on it but I really didn't expect the concentrated amount of hits included here. these solo Beatles albums have been a real treat

Beatles goofiness ratings: 1. Ringo (born in DINGLE, Thomas the tank engine VO) 2. Paul (Everything he writes regardless of topic sounds like he’s singing a jaunty tune about repainting your fence) 3. John (shot dead) 4. George (Indian food induced cancer)

Day 54 First listen- LEGIT blown away by how perfect this album is, the melodies are just chef's kiss! Every single song is addicting. (5/5)

Awesome.

A pretty rad little album. I’m sure at the time on vinyl this album hit pretty hard. Starts strong with band on the run and Jet, finishes strong with nineteen hundred and eighty five.

Difficult to be objective about an album I’ve loved since I was a kid in the 70s! Apart from the brilliance of all the songs and Paul’s singing, highlights for me are Paul’s bass work on the Rick and Linda’s unique keyboards and harmonies. One of those albums that sounds just as good now as on release.

Always good to listen to Paul. This album is no different. Has some of his Beatles influences fused in; While different to stay current with the musical era. A well produced album all around

Loved it, can’t go wrong with Paul. He branched out very well after the Beatles. I would say it is very similar to the Beatles feel; but more 70’s with the synth machine and organs. A great front to back album

Fun. Inventive. Not a single song I didn’t like. I had a feeling I’d like this one bc it’s Paul McCartney. Didn’t disappoint! I’d buy this album

The come back of macca

Absolute banger

Modern music doesn't have so nice popyphony

pol good

Post-Beatles Paul McCartney i sitt absoluta esse. Jösses vad bra detta är. Helt i en liga för sig. För mig krävs rätt period och rätt humör för att verkligen uppskatta plattan fullt ut. Men det har mest att göra med att jag lyssnat på den så löjligt mycket. Femma utanför skalan!

For me his best post beatle album. Wings rule amazing musicians and a different kind of pop rock than the beatles. Really great only 1 song I didnt like yet the transition to that song was enough to make it better this time around

Daam I didn't expect this to appear here, I haven't listened to it, but I thought Paul would only appear here in Beatles. I like the cover, It's full of stuff that's not usually shown on a cover. I have hopes it'll be good, Paul can do production well. First song, long ass song, not as much actually, either way no objections. That weird sound is oddly nice. Beat change, instant goodness incoming, love this already. There's more than one song here. The chorus just started and it's so different to what it was before. Second song, amazing start already. Two songs in here two. Love how they scream jet, the lyrical delivery is fine too. Production wise it's top tier for me, so full and not plastic. I wanted this to last longer tbh. Third song, dam this is catchy already. The title aligns with how the song sounds too, love that. Kinda funky sonically. The sound in my right ear sounds like papa's games theme song iykwim. Oh fuck jazzyness came in, Paul you're too good at this music thing. 4th song, couldn't get any more catchier than this. Ho Hey ho, I've heard that somewhere else, did someone sample this, or Paul sampled smn hmm. This is getting better and better progressively. Jazz again, fuck yea. I mean it's just saxophone (I think) but I call it jazz whatever y'all. 5th song, became rocky after the intro. One of the least upbeat songs off the album, still liking it tho ofc. Not bad, just it's a grower most likely. 6th song, sonically it's good, better than good, the headphone play especially. But it seems a little too slow for me. And it is kinda low on production, even though there is quality. Did not like this chorus as much, sonically it was nice, dunno what I think about this overall. 7th song, mm I like his voice here, and it gets so good with the instrumental break. I can hear Beatles in these songs, but I won't compare them. I didn't expect to like this with the way it started, but that after chorus is amazing. Wish the last part lasted longer tbh. 8th song, I like the lyrics here. Also the quirks happening with the instruments are fun. Oh dam, self referencing, also the absolute song change. Another song change in-between, enjoying this a lot. Violins are too good here- wai the hey hos started again hmm. 9th song, dam the best start here, the piano the beat, and then both together. This is ahead of its time wtff. I do nott want this song to end, it's the best thing here dam. He could have done this this whole time and just decided not or what the fuck?? Quick note about the first song reference at the end, love Paul for that. Instantly 5 stars for this piece of work, I expected less than this, or maybe exactly this I'm not even sure atp. The last song was too good I'm mesmerized rn. Uhh yes I want more from him, otherwise I'll listen to him myself. Mm talent didn't go to waste, I'm glad.

So many songs I recognized that I would have never connected dots that were from this album

JET!!!! absolutely iconic album by one of my absolute favourite songwriters ever.

Classic album. And Christopher Lee on the cover!

Bought this album when it first came out and I probably play it a couple times a year. Wings were very popular in at my high school There's a couple misfires like all McCartney albums but songs like Jet and 1985 are bursting with highly produced energy.

I love Paul McCartney‘s music. What else can I say about this album? 100%

Great album, with several different musical styles. Paul at the peak of his songwriting ability.

Maybe people bristle at "Bluebird" (they shouldn't, it's one of McCartney's best arrangements, Beatles or otherwise) or at "Picasso's Last Words" (okay, maybe) but I think it's hard to quibble too much with an album where it's clear everyone involved is having a blast, especially when the hooks and the vocals are all immaculate.

Fun as hell.

Such a great album!

Enjoyed the album, and I've enjoyed Paul McCartney's works after the Beatles.

Un álbum alegre y rockero, realmente Paul demuestra que puede brilla fuera de The Beatles. Me encanta el toque jazero, es simplemente perfecto.

my take off song

Clearly imma Beatles fan

Wings is really just Paul McCartney being more inclusive. He plays nearly all the instruments and wrote all the songs after all. Fair dos he wanted his wife to feel like she was a part of the project. And nothing wrong with that. Such a variety of great tunes and arrangements and everything fits together really well. I particularly like the reprises of Jet and Band On The Run in other songs. Some might call it a bit lazy but I think that’s what makes this feel like a proper collection. Top quality. Really liked it

Paul on the Run! Paul on the Run! God, this album is fun. Paul’s fifth album since he left the Beatles, this one really shows his songwriting strengths, even though he only had two other main band members in the studio to make it, he had his wife Linda, and former Moody Blues pianist Denny Laine. The album seemed to have been plagued with issues, with two band members leaving before recording started, and even Paul and Linda getting robbed at knifepoint. Nevertheless, they still managed to make a fantastic album. The album shows off so many different sides of Paul’s songwriting. The title track shows a blend of pop rock and a little prog rock, while songs like Bluebird and Picasso’s Last Words(Drink to Me) shows his more laid back acoustic sound. The closing track, Nineteen Hundred and Eighty-Five, is a great full circle moment which wraps back to the beginning track. They even got Ginger Baker of Cream….to shake a tin can full of gravel! In all seriousness, this definitely is a great album, and we truly will be searching forever more for that elusive band.

This is a great listen. I really love the former Beatles member's work post-Beatles more than their group stuff. Which is saying a lot considering how groundbreaking the Beatles were. But Paul and Crew are so creative and tight on this album, and I love the lyrical work as well. Just a top notch album.

5* Album. Despite not previously being a Beatles or McCartney fan this record brings me great joy every time I listen to it. Aside from the obvious tracks I love Mrs Vanderbilt and Let Me Roll It.

Loved it!!

Best McCartney album. Good tracks. Typical vintage Paul.

Deserving of 5 stars, I’m being overly and annoyingly precious about giving them out, but yeah this album rules. Gotta feel so cool to be Paul and pull off an album like this after the Beatles. I grew up on Band on the Run and Let Me Roll It but the others were all super fun and deserving of equal recognition. This fella just writes tune after tune that you want to sing to along with, it’s like a Michael Jordan level dominance in his craft kind of feeling. Ah Damn it, I’ve been turned by myself, going 5 stars. Well done, Sir Paul.

I liked this album a lot. Mrs Vandebilt was a cool song I'd never heard before. I like how the album called back to itself on later songs.

Great album

THIS IS MY JAM very perfect album to me

Great album-love it

Why did I sleep in this?

I don't even know how to write a review for Band On The Run - it's an essential album full of tremendously interesting and enjoyable songs by the world's greatest songwriter. I think that covers it pretty well actually.

Love Paul McCartney, but still surprised by how much liked this album.

Not as good as the Beatles. But still fantastic!

Wonderful stuff, for nostalgia and all the great times spent with this album, def a 5

I keep winning

Great mix of music arrangements and lyrics!

One of my favorite albums of all time. Its tightly produced, dark, stokes feelings of warm summer late nights, and produced to immaculate perfection. Paul McCartney finally sounds free of the tension from the Beatles breakup that occurred 3 years prior, moving forward with swagger and excitement. Unfortunately, Paul McCartney could never really capture this magic again and meandered too much in records passed this one. Instead, he left everything out on the table here. You can hear McCartney's diverse influences and inspirations in country (Band on the Run), Little Richard piano phrases (Jet), the Jazzy horn sections (Jet), the typical I-vi from 50s-60s (Let Me Roll it), the English countryside folk (Mamunia, Picasso's Last Words), 60s psychedelia (No Words), and even funk (1985). And yet, McCartney is able to combine these influences effortlessly with sweet infectious melodies. I love my time each time I spin this record.

Brilliant stuff. Best post Beatles Beatle album? Ironically his bass playing is pretty boring.

4.5, rounding up.

The only fiver I have for Paul... This was his solo masterpiece 10 ★★★★★

Great album. Paul at his best. 5 stars

I liked it more than I thought I would. Short and sweet. Neat.

A seed is waiting in the earth For rain to come and give him birth It's all he really needs to set him free

Excellent

Glorious

This is going to date this review, but the only way anybody would get me to play that damn horse game is if someone made an Umamusume AMV set to Jet

Really enjoyed this one, there's no filler

Wow what a strong start, had never heard Jet before!! Saved every song, had heard of the eponymous track obviously. Wow

Great album. One of Paul's best. Band on the run is obviously a classic. My other favourite is Let me Roll it. Will definitely be relisting to this

Paul’s most marijuana soaked contact high of a masterpiece is nearly 50 years old but it remains a marvel of studio wizardry. It’s both pitch perfect and loose. At points, it feel improvisational and yet the whole band seems to be of a single mind. That’s because they are, Paul plays almost everything on the album, with a few guest spots from Denny Laine, Ginger Baler, and Linda peppered in. Still stands as Paul’s greatest post-Beatles achievement and the album to flip any Paul dissenter. A true must have.

What can you say? A classic Still play it a lot after all these years. Can’t say that about many Albums.

One of the sounds of my childhood, absolute must listen for everyone.

Amazing. One of Paul’s best. Own it!

Perfect album. Felt like finding a bunch of classic songs from a parallel universe.

Amazing album not a bad song could listen to this album every day

Puro mccartney. Algún estribillo vergonzoso , pero genial en conjunto.

Love it, Paul 🥰

A very good album from start to finish. 5 stars or A.

Just a perfect pop record.

Classic rock album that had hints of alt. Interesting sound overall. McCartney singing nice too

This album is so effortlessly good it’s unfair. It’s the sound of running toward yourself.

Hit after hit after hit. Paul McCartney didn't need the Beatles to write good songs and this clearly shows it. A lot of McCartney's best songs are on here. 1985, Band on the Run, Mrs. Vandebilt and Let Me Roll It are all classic 70's rock hits. The only is only let down by the Mamunia, No Words and Picasso's Last Words IMO. Very close to a perfect album if not for those relatively lackluster tracks.

This is pretty much top to bottom great. Band On The Run, Jet, Mrs. Vandebilt, Let Me Roll It, Nineteen Hundred And Eighty Five. Just an absolute smoker from Paul.

AMAZING. LAST SONG WAS THE BEST. AMAZING, FUCKING PAUL MCCARTNEY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Quando rankeei a discografia inteira do Beatles e das carreiras solo dos quatro integrantes, Band On The Run foi o unico disco que ficou acima de alguns albuns do Beatles (With The Beatles, Let It Be, Help!, A Hard Day's Night, Beatles for Sale, Please Please Me e Yellow Submarine). As memórias ouvindo Band on the Run e Jet ao vivo ficarão pra sempre comigo. Agora, uma teoria da conspiração: Esse site sempre te dá os melhores albuns nas segundas-feiras, não é? Segunda passada foi o Innervisions do Stevie Wonder e agora esse?! Não tão nem escondendo. 5/5 10/10 Etc.

Mamunia and Let Me Roll It aren't great, but the rest of the album is pretty close to perfect, with unusual song arrangements and Paul's usual stellar vocal melodies. 4.5/5.0: Excellent

first listen. nineteen hundred and eighty five is maybe the best beatles song

nice paul songs. lots of cool claves and shakers silly sing along ho hey ho things. best part "my heart is like a wheel.." lyric

My first is one of my favorite albums!

Skit bra!!

This might be unpopular, given than All things might pass normally gets the title of "best post-Beatles Beatle record", but I find this one to be the absolute best when it comes to that list.

The final song was what sealed the deal for me on this one. Pure chills!

Brilliant album, one of the best post-Beatles albums out there.

Si. Hasta el lunes.

This was an awesome album. Band On The Run brings back memories of Guitar Hero. I had heard Jet, Let Me Roll It and Nineteen Hundred And Eighty Five before, but didn't realize they were from this album. The other tracks were good as well, but the ones I already knew elevated the album for me.

The first solo Beatle album I listened to way back in my high school Beatles phase. I specifcally remember hearing Band on the Run on the radio and saying "Gee that sounds just like Paul McCartney" and my mom going "...That's because it is". Went out to buy a copy on vinyl and the rest is history. Was blown away then, and still am to this day. Perfect intro/outro combo. Picasso's Last Words is my sleeper pick for best on the album. I'm a sucker for a good medley (as is McCartney). Probably his best work post-Beatles

I have listened before but not attentively and I tried after the first listen to "forget he was in the Beatles" because this is a long way from that kind of music. By a couple of listens I started to give it proper credit as a good pop album. There's some really interesting stuff and ends on a great song.

Really not something I would pick up and listen to but it was surprisingly all bangers

Arguably the best solo McCartney record. Seeing the cover makes me hear the first little guitar lick play in my head, then the ear worm wakes up, and now I have to listen to the whole fucking thing. This record is unstoppable.

Day 3 and already an undeniable 5 star album. Listening to the gradual evolution of Paul McCartney is such a treat. Every single song on this album rocks. The instrumentation, catchy sounds, smooth bass lines, singing, and overall vibe is just incredible. The album frequently changes back and forth from an absolute jam session, to a killer bit of brass instrumentation, to something very reminiscent of The Beatles, and it all blends incredibly well together. One of my personal favorite tropes for an album is when they end with a riff from the first song, so bonus points for that as well.

Good, lighthearted album

A true classic, one of the albums of all time

Grows on me more every year. Pop magic.

By 1973, three-fourths of The Beatles had acquired critical, commercial and cultural acclaim. John raged and soothed, George spoke and soared and Ringo simply surprised. Paul? He just beguiled and bewildered many who were acutely aware of his talents. The expectations set upon him as he had dismantled the seemingly untroubled fortress of the Fab Four were not being met, or had not actually existed at all and listeners were dismissive as a result. His back was against the wall. Even if he had come upon a set of Wings, the winds were not blowing in his direction. A trip to Nigeria, meeting Fela Kuti's suspicious eye (and gaining his understanding in the process) and run-ins with macheted robbers who stole master tapes were apparently all that was needed to clear the cobwebs. Band on the Run was the belated masterpiece was the public had been waiting for; nine tracks of polished yet beefed up rock and roll with enough concessions to pop, balladry and funked up good vibes that could enliven any atmosphere it's placed in. Its enduring stature that persists to this day is in large part due to how seemingly assured and confident it seems, despite the turmoil of the prior years; it's the sound of a band finally in sync with the rest of the world around them.

I'm a bluebird, I'm a bluebird, I'm a bluebird... What a fantastic album, ahhh!

Incredible album front to back. It’s a shame Sir Paul can’t be anonymous in this project: He is immediately judged by assholes who think they are edgy for downplaying his talent. Disliking a band or album because of musical taste is great, we are all different, but making disparaging comments because someone was in the most successful band of all time shows insecurity and immaturity.

this actually rocked so much, and i’m saying that as someone who does not really care for the beatles but i think this really has the sauce. i will absolutely listen to it again

I wasn't expecting to like this one, but it was a surprise standout! Of course I'm a sucker for a larger instrument mix and they did a lot with it! Seamless integration of some nice brass and wind instruments with more traditional guitar and kit. The vocals were also surprisingly good. Some nice little harmony bits with other members and solid lead vocals. Just a lot of really talented writing in this album. Would listen again. Lots of great instrumental inclusion, from the deep bass lines grounding Jet, the little sax interludes in Bluebird, the sax weaving in with the snappy bass lines of Mrs. Vanderbilt, the meandering wind interlude in Picasso's Last Words introducing the key change and the strings leading us into the end, the jaunty piano carrying us through 1985.

Thank God the Beatles broke up so we can experience this amazing album. You'll want to spin it again as soon as it finishes.

So many great songs

Probablement mon album préféré. Rien d'autre à dire.

Really liked all the songs, would listen again and again.

Paul is the goat

I love wings, this album in specific feels so free and fun, gives me a smile everytime I listen to it. Also, the track progressions are so good, you have more sonic changes inside the songs than from song to song. I love how full it is, how upright. probably my favorite beatles related work (up there with sgt pepper :))

Lotta bops on here, especially the lead/title track

Masterpiece brilliant
