Reviews (page 12 of 13)
Country cannot go too wrong, but was not as impressive or melodic as expected...
Great vocals!
Standouts - Deja Vu; 4 + 20 Pretty standard classic rock sounds Some interesting lead guitar here and there
Man bekommt vielstimmig, was man einstimmig erwartet. Einstimmig fantastische Songs sind Young mit „Helpless“, Opener „Carry on“ und Titelsong „Deja Vu“. Zeitlos 3.4
Pretty good but Neil Young deleted a bunch of his library from Spotify so now I'll have to search the other songs on YouTube... but prolly not
1. Nice opening track 2. Meh 3. Sweet 4. Zzz 5. Nice intro, good rock track 6. Meh 7. Classic sing along chorus 8. Boring 9. :l 10. First half cool. Second half less
Best Song: Carry On. Kicks the album off with ethereal harmonies and a driving tempo. Worst Song: Helpless. Neil Young solo vocals do not stand up against the harmonies of the other songs. Overall: Meh. Starts with an interesting, "revolutionary-hippie" vibe that dies off for a slower atmosphere for the latter half of the album
I recognized a couple of songs. It was just alright. I didn't skip any of the songs.
Why did this album became such a commercial success? A. Neil Young joined the chat. B. D I V E R S I T Y (despite the fact that's it ultimately became inconsistent and messy) C. The previous album by the group was (probably) a good one D. because harmony E. uhmmm... it took them 800 hours to record it
I mean it was fine, not really my thing. This kind of rock/country is boring to me.
Good combo of singers and musicians, music that was very pleasing and a few great songs too. Liked Our House and 4 + 20 especially. Just didn't love it.
Classic.
Fine!
Bruh
Pretty solid, with some gems
Carry on and almost cut my hair were my favorites
OK, some good songs, I can see why people like it but not for me
Rating: 5/10 Best songs: Our house
3/5 naaaah
Classic. 3.5
Another good folk rock album. This one brings in Neil young who is great but I find this album a little bit more preachy and not as strong as CSN. Carry On Helpless and Deja Vu are all good. 6.5/10
What a very, very, very fine record.
old timey airy wistful montage music. No exceptional standouts for me here.
Some great stuff but those harmonies annoy sometimes
Not a huge fan of the sound but they certainly knew what they were doing
Decent album. I like Neil Young's voice
Our house is a very very very nice house song
Made it halfway through, kinda got bored, but it's iconic I guess
3.25
Hm. Not the biggest country fan here, and this album being 50 years old doesn't add much either.
Classic rock is classic. Even this one.
woodstock is great
Not my favorite, but still a good album.
I don't actually know that much about CSNY, other than they're status as a classic rock supergroup. But there was a lot of familiarity in these songs. So much so that I had to look up whether this was an album of cover songs. Seriously, Wikipedia? Are you sure that "Our House" isn't a cover of a British Invasion song? Is there no chance "Helpless" was originally a gospel song? Adding to that feeling is the supergroup-y nature of the tracks - each of the four members writing songs that feel very different. "Almost Cut My Hair" is completely forgettable. But "Teach Your Children" is timeless, and the harmonies on that song and a few others stand out head-and-shoulders above those prominently featuring one member. I'm gonna wait to weigh in on Neil Young's voice until we listen to a full album of just him. For now, let's just say his is not my favorite voice in CSNY. The songs that feel more like collaborations between the four band members are the best (even if the actual recording process wasn't so united).
Good stuff. Neil young makes this album so much better.
Mellow sound for the end of the week. 3*
This album is cool. but it's really not for me. I don't think it's bad but I'm not a super big fan. It feels really old, and I don't really digg the classic rock thing. So no disrespect to them or anyone else to enjoy this one, But for me it's a hard meh.
its okay
Thanks Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young for reminding me that if I ever want that hideously majestic mullet I've been dreaming of I've got to hold out with the scissors a bit longer. I'm not giving in an inch to fear 'cause I promised myself this year! :/ That was the only standout track for me, other than the obvious hit Our House which is GREAT. Deja Vu and 4+20 were nice chill tunes too. Country Girl was a pleasant Galactic Country® surprise (space western music?) but otherwise the album was sort of unremarkable to me at this time.
Con "Carry on" quest'album parte col botto.
3 for now, but I think it'll grow on me
3.5/5
Good album. I LOVE "Helpless", which is the only song I was familiar with.
A folksy rock (heavy on the folk) album that I did not expect to recognise any songs from, but 'Our House' was the one. Not too out of place for an alternative radio station by today's standards. Best: Our House, Woodstock Worst: Almost Cut My Hair, Country Hair 2.5 stars
overall i liked the album, but one song aggravated me to a point where i now have to rate it a three. helpless- it was just so bad it ruined my energy on the whole album, but there were other great ones.
i listened to this in the sun shine like walking and it made me feel good. plus yk classic rock always is a win for me but still nothing like that wowed me
Tirando a música supra mencionada a melhor cantiga é o Country Girl. Nota:5/10
Good songs, not my cup of tea, but I like it. A little forgettable tho Favo song: 4 + 20
Familiar sounding, think I might have heard it before 🤔
Some great tunes - this is good Neil not bad Neil
Great musicianship and song writing.
Enjoyed that though not sure I'd listen to it again
Some great tunes - this is good Neil not bad Neil
I’m having a hard time distinguishing between if I like this or if I’ve just heard so many of these songs so many times that I think I must like it
I always had mixed feelings about CSNY. My best friend Rick (RIP) was THE biggest Neil fan in the world and always went on about how they disrespected him eg by positioning him out of the spotlight during concerts. Neil eventually demonstrated very clearly that he was the best of the four. Neil was too good and too cool to be on the outside looking in. I guess it's best to look at this as a CSN LP with a couple of songs thrown in by an outcast. Looking at it that way, I can say that CSN have excellent harmonies and wrote some charming and fun songs. Oh yeah, I can also say that one of those outcast songs (Helpless) happens to be the best song on the album.
.
classic CSNY
Boring first two tracks. Then two absolutely great tunes (which I think are new to me!). Helpless is right in my wheel arch! Love it! Deja Vu was dull. Two more classics in Our house (which I had heard before and 4 + 20. Love both of them. Fucking hell. Country girl is hurting my ears. too many drugs lads. The last track had potential but there is way too much going on. Like the rock voice guy agreeing with everything but hate the rest. 3/5 as the good tracks are really good!
This is fine. I like Neil Young, and consequently enjoyed his songs most (maybe as I knew them before hand). Generally, found this pleasant, but maybe a bit too polished and perfect. Lacks a little bit of edge/emotion.
Better than the Crosby Stills and Nash album i'd heard before. Maybe because I like Neil Young. First half better than the second
Hmm...

This album is what I'd describe as 'something I wouldn't choose to put on myself but like it when someone does'. Would pair well with a doob. One to listen to if you want to feel cool and have other people know you're cool too. I got a little bored though but I have a short attention span
Vocal ente destacable.
It was okay. Some good songs, but nothing spectacular.
Not bad

Beach boys meats old country, Helpless is a bop
Ok I guess. Nothing stands out for me.
Their house was a very very very fine house
I had always thought of these guys as an easy listening group, but this album was more similar to bands like Cream with it's heavier guitar riffs. I loved it. These guys are one of the best at harmonizing vocals.
Production: 12/20 Songwriting: 14/20 Innovation: 11/20 Bangers: 5/20 Emotional response: 12/20 =54 Quite enjoyed this tbf
super erster track, einige hits, in seiner gänze aber bisschen viel vocal-folk
Not really my cup of coffee.
I had high hopes for this album but it ended up just being alright to me
Not really my cup of tea, way to happy
Very good. At times seems dialed in, the story of how this was created kinda lends a hand to that idea. Talented musicians for sure. Near flawless, yet didn't capture my attention fully.
Nice, but not mind blowing. Bordering on too folky for my taste
Good tracks, but lacks cohesiveness.
The slower tracks tend to drag a little, but the vocal harmonies and compositions still make this album a solid listen.
gostei do our house e do woodstock, pena q é muito folk pro meu gosto.
A classic Folk albums and nice voice harmonies.
Very twangy but classic rock. Recognized “Teach your Children” from The Office - Take Your Daughter to Work Day.
Not exactly my cup of tea. I am a small fan of Neil Young and actually did not enjoy the songs he was on. Favorite song: 4+20.
Not ground breaking, but nice to listen too
Some hippy bullshit. Was pretty good though.
Songs were easy to listen to but none of them really stick with you.
decent i guess, easy listening
1970: Our House, Carry On
i liked a few songs off of here! some were kinda slow/boring
Very nice folk rock album. Closer to a 3.5
I know that I have listened to this album before. However, I don't remember any of it. You could say that I'm experiencing Deja Vu as I listen to it again.
deja vu? more like pee-yew
No, I didn't like this album either. Maybe it's just my mood right now, but after the first few tracks, I didn't feel like listening to the rest of the album. 2/5
Décevant, 1 tune sur 2 de bonne
Folky, country twanged rock with those classic vocal harmonies. It starts so slow. The recording also seems to push the vocals to the top of the mix, meaning I can barely hear some of the instruments. Nothing really sticks with me until the second half. Luckily from Woodstock onwards the album becomes a bit more experimental, with the proggy [deja-vu] being the standout. The Beatles-esque [our house] appears to be the real hit for many. It's every flavour of cosy and twee - not to my personal taste but I can respect the feelings. [4+20] is dark, folky ditty. It thankfully has one vocalist which makes it one of the best tracks in my book. [Country girl] returns to those proggy sensibilities - but for me the vocals are too busy and detract from some pleasing rhythm and melody. Final track [Everybody I love you!] Returns to the earlier album tendancies of vocals first and everything else is in the back. This is difficult for me to rate because I don't mind the bands sound. I struggle with the grating harmonies and their prominence in the mix. It's between a 2 and 3. I'm not seeking to put it on but probably listen to some songs again.
Didn't liked it
Not really my thing. Very mellow.
Passive rock and country blend, not really to my liking. Recording standards have improved so much that this feels very poorly presented without having to crank the volume. There's clearly some guitar noodling here for some folk to enjoy, track 3 for example feels like something that would have been great live with some weed. Could do with more exciting drumming though, very stable and unadventurous.
This was ok, but I really only liked when Graham Nash or Neil Young sang. I know and love the song Our House. I also knew Teach Your Children. I’m not a fan of Stephen Stills or David Crosby’s voice.
Fine not for me
It was okay, not really my thing
Ah zut !
I liked some of the songs, I dont listen to this genre very much but some of the songs sounded similar to david bowie songs
It was ok. Maybe I'll give it another go sometime in the future.
I enjoyed parts of this, especially Carry On and Woodstock and some of the production. But ultimately not for me.
Beautiful harmonies, solid songwriting, cool and clean folk vibe. But it’s almost too soft, comfortable and padded to really hit me emotionally. I definitely respect it, but I don’t think I’ll come back to it very often.
old slow album but still like the music
Oldies
This is soooo boring. It's so highly rated I assumed there would be more going on.
It was a short unmemorable album
Not a fan. Reminded me of The Who and kind of the Beatles but not as good. Was shocked to hear Our House, had no idea that was this band.
Decent sound but not my taste.
I do not like these men.
Was ok.
Helt okej, lite för gammalmodig
Our House e guete Klassiker. Bim Rest chli unsicher wasi devo halte söll. Paar zu Country, Paar no e solidi büez.
Expected this one to be pretty good. It wasnt.
Probably felt euphoric and revelatory if you were 13-23, quite high, and the world was in shambles.
2.5/5 It was ok. Nothing amazing. Very simple classic rock.
Not for me really. But I guess I like that it's pretty charming
Luckily it had Helpless
This album is probably on here for a very specific song or two. I prefer solo Neil Young.
nao foi do meu agrado
A good doble intro with "Carry On / Questions", I like when musicians merge two different songs (eg. McCartney in "Ram"). The rest is a bit too hippie folk rock for me. Maybe I'll listen to it again in the future. 2.75/ 5
Carry on - Legal, mas não escutaria normalmente. Um rock meio beatles. Teach your Children - Muito lenta, meio countr. Não é minha vibe No geral, não gostei
Another instant 70s soundtrack .Gave it one more star because of 'Our House' which I have always loved . Prefer the Simon and Garfunkel type ones . Mostly forgettable .
Another one of the supposed 'big guns' that ended up being a bit underwhelming.
I don’t really care about this band
well i listened to it at night and i needed songs that were not so loud, so maybe thats why i gave some songs higher score that i normally would do. to be honest, it is not a bad album, im just not into rock n roll thats why i couldnt really enjoy it to the fullest. carry on - it gets good in the middle of the song. great harmonization. you cant listen to this with your headphones on tho lol. dont know if i would add it to my playlist - 3/5 teach your children - pretty song. not my style. wouldnt add it to my playlist - 2/5 almost cut my hair - good song. dont like the melody. wouldnt add it to my playlist. - 4/5 helpless - nothing to say. beatiful song. would add it to my playlist - 4/5 woodstock - loved it. i can tell its from the 70. would add it to my playlist - 4,5/5 deja vu - sounds like a fairy tale as they walk through the forest in search of something. liked it. dont know if i would add it to my playlist - ?/5 our house - such a cute song. would add it to my playlist - 4/5 4 + 20 - found it boring - 1,5/5 country girl - wow okay not bad. good one but dont know if i would add it to my playlist. everybody i love you - good one. you cant listen to this one with your headphones on either. wouldnt add it to my playlist tho. - 4/5
I Liked "Almost Cut My Hair" and "Helpless", but other than this I wasnt really all that engaged by this one.
This was a solid album, I enjoy this aesthetic of music so I enjoyed listening to it, however I wouldn’t rlly listen to it again except for a few songs. The last half of the album is def stronger than the first one. Fav song: Woodstock
Carry on and teach your children ☆☆☆☆
adding Young to this trio did not improve the music, Crosby, Stills & Gash
Not the biggest folk fan, I liked this more than expected. It's probably the more "rock" adjacent nature of the project, with tracks like Woodstock having a bit more bite to them, that worked for me. But it just feels a bit like a more folksy Beatles, which I can understand being popular at the time, but does absolutely nothing for me personally. The harmonies are nice, but are utterly unremarkable for me. And, outside of some spicier exceptions (such as the titular Deja Vu), the production just feels so slow and one note. I don't know. People seem to rave about Niel Young for his unique singing style and intimately personal lyrics. Yet this album feels like a supergroup just cashing in on replicating a trendy sound without really doing anything to it.
"Our House", the only song of theirs I ever truly liked is on this album DEJA VU. The rest of this album is insufferable hippie shit that my ears cannot abide.
Boring
Height of sophistication for late 60s hippies. I now understand why Neil Young won't have anything to do wit the other three. It's not that he hates them, just that he doesn't want to inflict this dreadful noise of the world again.
definitely not something i would normally listen to & will probably never listen to again but i liked the experience
103/1001 First listen. I don’t know what these hippies are on about. I suspect this is appreciated more for the lyrics. The music doesn’t do much for me. Lovely harmonizing though. The addition of Young doesn’t up my rating from the C,S&N album a month ago. 4/10
1. Carry on 5/10 2. 10. Everybody I Love You 4/10
Boy howdy, I just don’t care for CSN! Glad Neil would soon escape this treachery.
I would guess even the members of CSNY only like a handful of songs off of this album. This is the epitome of boomer music. This album told me to knock on doors until I found a job. This album texted me on the 2nd day of the month to ask why my rent is late. This album specifies the race of every non-white person in the story it's telling. This album campaigned for McGovern but voted for Trump.
I hate these guys
I've never been massively sold on Young and his contemporaries, and this album didn't move the needle for me. Woodstock is a classic obviously.
This album is ok. But even the best songs here have better cover versions.
Too country, too cowboy not my style
Gear: Abyss DIANA MR Artwork: 🐕🤠📸 Production (2021 Remaster): 🎧😘🤌 Music: 😐😬😣 Rating: 🦴🦴(🦴)/5
Didn't catch me. Felt very similar the whole way. Not my kind of folk?
Well, now I’ve heard a CSNY album.
4/10 - it's ok, nothing to write home about, only know the second song because of the office which is the highlight
Decent, but for a supergroup not a ton of variety.
It was good, good for summer with your grandparents but not for me on a regular basis.
A bit bland ;(
I appreciate a 30-minute album for a first-time listen-through. It was okay, I bet if I really listened to the words I would get the story, I believe it had deeper meaning in the lyrics.
need to relisten but not bad. vibe is niche and the recommended songs after were also a vibe
it's not terrible, but i'm just not impressed.
I could not tell you a single thing about this album. Didn’t hate every second though so it’s got to get an extra point for that.
A couple good songs, great vocals
A mix between a country farmer/Beatles vibe but none of the songs were overly similar so a nice change from the last few albums. Just like a bubblegum ice cream on a hot summers day-not my go to flavour but still refreshing.
first album of the project that i'm passingly familiar with teach your children, the home, woodstock are the most tolerable teach your children and the home were songs i already knew
Sometimes I feel bad about it, but I am hugely indifferent to any of the work of Neil Young.
I'm sure there are those doing the project who are quite nostalgic about this album. But let's be honest, it's a bit boring isn't it.
Deja Vu is right. I've had quite enough of Bing Crosby, Stephen Stills, Wyatt Nash, and Neil Young. Or whoever. I guess it's better than another Led Zeppelin, but looking at this album cover is just like, ugh. I feel like we've already had this exact album. We definitely had 'Teach Your Children' on another album of theirs (?). Are these all redos of songs from their previous albums? Is this where Taylor Swift got it from? It's not clear to me. Anyway, maybe it's just because I'm in a bad mood, but this isn't quite a 3 for me. Terrible 2s. Sorry for you, CSN(Y), try me again with your next 10 albums on this list, I'm sure. Highlight: 'Teach Your Children', 'Our House' (only because it's in the Simpsons)
1. carry - 1.5 2. teach - 1.5 3. hair -1 4. Help - 1.5 5. Woodstock - 1.5 6. Dejavu - 1 7. House -1.5 8. Twenty - 1.5 9. Country -2 10. Everybody - 1
Despite the names involved, this comes off as a pretty unremarkable folk rock record. It doesn't do anything all that new musically, so you'd hope for the songwriting to be top notch. But the songwriting isn't all that special either. The group members' harmonies are pleasant, but they're not present on every track. Outside of "Helpless," which sounds like a classic if by-the-numbers Neil Young song, the slower songs aren't that moving. The more rocking guitar moments are fun, but those moments mostly just act as accents for songs; the one song that does get into a guitar groove is a Joni Mitchell cover. Other songs like "Almost Cut My Hair" just sound clumsy, lyrically and musically. While this was probably a big event album at the time and signaled some kind of turning point in rock music, it hasn't held up as noteworthy all these years later.
Nicely recorded and well performed but, for me, it's standard hippy fare that doesn't stand out. Yes, the you can hear the intricacies in the playing and vocal harmonies but the songs don't appeal.
Rating: 2.2 Your 4 sad grandfathers sit around a campfire and slow grind on their acoustic guitars and wail about not being able to get hoes. I do not care.
Maybe this is because I have modern ears but this feels like most 70s slop that sounds like a bunch of rejects from the Rumours album by Fleetwood Mac. I liked "Our House" from this album but I had already heard it before. Meh.
2/5 Classic and polished folk rock with catchy harmonies and melodies. Songs like “Almost Cut My Hair”, “Woodstock”, “Everybody I Love You” offer some soulful and blues rock as well. Also, ten songs for about a half hour is always doable. As great as the personnel is there’s still an element about the music that’s forgettable and bland as it doesn’t standout to me aside from maybe a few songs. Not a fan of Neil Young’s voice either.
As a Neil fan, the mystery with the “Y” part of this supergroup has always been, uh, why? I get having his voice and set of hands live, but he’s barely on the record vocally except on his own two tracks, otherwise adding sporadic guitar and other instrumentation throughout. That this is the best-selling release for any of them in any of their projects sure is a testament to that moment in post-60s boomer culture. This is all a bit too hippie dippie canyon bullshit for me, especially the Croz tracks RIP, but the harmonies are incredible throughout.
Another snoozefest
Eh
Can, Stop, Now, Yes.
It's ok I guess
The vocal harmonies are nice and all but this album just about put me to sleep
Up front, I am not a folk rock fan. I get that the harmonies and the meticulously played songs highlight why this album made the list. However, the meticulous perfection of the album is really its biggest flaw. In life as in music it is the imperfections, the rough edges, that make us and music interesting. This is a perfectly dull record. The most interesting tracks turn out to be those where the vocals are not perfect and the lyrics not so sunny. Almost Cut My Hair - a hippie anti-anthem with its, in my mind the best track on the record. Overtly political, a little paranoid, and definitely anachronistic, it captures a moment. Similarly, Neil Young’s version of Helpless evokes a sense of loss and is an album highlight. I ask myself with every one of the albums if I would listen to the record again. The answer in this case is no. This LP fits the era it was released perfectly. I first encountered this record in 1974, while I was still a teen, and instantly rejected it for more interesting and exciting records and songs. Sure, it was played. Woodstock, Teach Your Chikden and Our House were all over Canadian radio and you could not escape those songs. But for me it was soulless and dull. A life of experience has not changed that opinion. The people who enjoyed this record are likely in their late 70s or early 80s. This record will die with them.
Wasn't looking forward to it, didn't enjoy at it all
Did not like the sound when they all sang together, preferred to hear their individual voices. Played in the background until it ended.
I'm so tired of old white dude rock on this list
Good harmonies, and representative of rock music of that era, but just so bland.
Lots of songs I’ve heard from this album. I’ve avoided listening to it for decades. I’m glad I got to have so much of my life where I didn’t have to listen to this. Sadly yesterday was the last day of my life where I hadn’t heard this all the way through. Neil Young songs are ok but sound like b-sides from his better albums. Other music is good harmonies but lyrics that are some of the dumbest I have ever heard, even by pop music standards.
Why does this algorithm keep torturing me with Neil Young? Seriously, how many albums of his do we need to hear before we die? Sure, this particular album is tempered by some of his friends, but still.
I really hate the energy of this album. It’s gives me the following vibe: young stubborn idealistic boomers thinking they’re gonna change the world with their minor “protests” and hippy bullshit, but they ain’t gonna do shit. Refusing to cut your hair doesn’t make you a revolutionary. It just makes you sound like a childish dipshit (ya, I mean you David Crosby). In actuality, these boomers are going to buy in and dominate us all but they just don’t know it yet… but hey they refused to cut their hair, so they’re fuckin truly principled counter culture icons I guess. Important note, I’m not putting Neil Young in this description, that man is one of the most principled people in music. He’s stubborn as hell and I respect that. He’s still crankin’ out protest music to this day. He’s never stopped trying to change the world with music. Unfortunately the new stuff is terrible, but I respect the effort. Anyways… It’s the other three members who seem like wieners… especially David Crosby. He has 2 of the worst songs on this thing… the aforementioned hair cutting song and deja vu (the scatting intro is a huge no for me). It’s just pretentious, self righteous bullshit. It’s not for me. Also I watched a Stern interview where he talked about how he screwed up his relationship with Joni Mitchell because he was jealous of how much better her songs were than his… it hurt his ego… what a loser. The best songs on this are Helpless (a Neil song), Woodstock (a Joni song) and Our House (a Nash song). The rest of the album is fine… except the Crosby songs… obviously. Helpless is this beautiful little folk country song about Neil’s childhood in small town Ontario. It’s a Canadian classic. The harmonies from the other 3 on the chorus enhance what is already a great song. It’s by far my favourite song on the album. Woodstock is just a great folk rock banger with a sticky chorus. And Our House is this sweet little piano ballad that also has a theatrical McCartney vibe to it. I really dig it. I didn’t know it going into this album. Other notable songs: Country girl feels like a Young b-side, but it’s still solid AND the first half of the closer, everybody I love you, is good… but then it hits this big lame hippy “love” chorus that brings the track down. This band has been way over mythologized. I looked at their discography… there are almost as many hits compilations as there are actual albums. And Young is only on 2 of the albums… this one and the shitty 80s one. Way too much hype and talk has been given to covering this mediocre supergroup. Whoever was doing PR for this band deserves a god damn medal. I looked at their greatest hits and if you cut the Neil/Joni songs, all you have is Helplessly Hoping and Our House. The rest is kinda shit. It’s tough to score this one. It has 3 amazing songs. 2 shit ones. And the rest is a mixed bag. But those 3 big songs are just really really great. I’m feeling a 2.5… rounding down because of Crosby.
Such an odd mix of styles. Some tracks sound like completely different bands, recorded in different studios, in different years. Love the Young, not so much the Crosby, Stills, or Nash.
They have amazing harmonies, but I can't stand Neil Young.
Kind of bad cause its boring
Sure, influential - let's go with that.
Eh probably just the wrong day for this genre but wasn’t feeling it
Okayish but palls after a while.
thought it would be a little bit more prolific. A bit mellow overall.
I almost def caught this in the wrong days mid vacation but it failed to Grab my attention in the ways their other works had
I can see the appeal. Not overly interesting to me.
it's wild to think that this music was once popular. "Almost Cut My Hair" is the perfect example of generational distance
Some good songs - okay
Pretty good, maybe not as good as their debut
Did not really feel this one (and like some Neil Young quite a bit)... don't think I will come back to it.
I thought the generator is bugged, when I heard Teach Your Children again, but no, it is just same guys +1 giving me a Deja Vu. Contrary to common opinion, I actually prefer their earlier sound as just CSN.
A collection of CSNY's middest hits
🙂↔️
I respect singing in harmonies. Otherwise rather dull album
I already feel like Im gonna hate it before hearing one single note. It wasn't as bad as I was expecting, not as folkey or country as I feared, but still quite uneasy listen.
I don't know about this one... They are all fine songwriters on their own, although I can't say am I big fan of any of them. This album, unlike so many others from the era, is still very highly regarded and frequently discussed in music circles today. For that reason alone, I may have to revisit it someday, but for some reason this type of music just fails to elicit any sort of response from me, it's simply kinda there. Key tracks: Our House
This album feels like I *should* love it. I love all the component pieces, but put together it just sounds... I dunno. Not for me.
Boring
Miinusta nimikkokappaleesta. 2,5
Also felt very generic. Opener was good though
Passande titel. En svag 2:a i betyg.
Had songs that remind me of childhood. I like 'Teach Your Children' 'Ohio' is hitting different in June of 2025 CSNY is something I can take in small doses but a while album of the vocal harmony thing gets tired
Their second album. Middle of the road Americana, folky type stuff. The musicianship is great obviously with these guys. Woodstock is a decent track. A hippy long hair song. Our House is a wonderful track. THE outstanding song. I really want these super talented guys to reach out and grab me but they just don't on this album. Well, only on one song.
Easy listening. The stand out tracks for me are those written by Crosby.
Oh dear, I've never understood why so many people of my age revere CSN(&Y)... And after listening to this period piece, I still don't 😐
Nice harmony singing. That‘s it. Fav: Country Girl
Its ok but not my musice type
Not something I loved spending time with. Didn't love any element, though some nice melodies and guitar work every now and again.
Rustige muziek. **
This is #day277 of my #1001albumsyoumusthearbeforeyoudie challenge, and... no surprise this one's called Deja Vu, since the first time I got Crosby, Stills & Nash was way back on #day11, and I gave that a 2. Today it's Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young, though, so not exactly déjà vu, right? Neil Young is hard to mistake. I like his "Hey Hey, My My (Into the Black)," but that came later. Still, I'm not sure I can go higher than a 3 here. This is a 2 out of 5. That is a lovely doggo on the cover, though. Looking forward to #day278.
There were a couple of songs which I enjoyed but not high enough energy for me
While this isn't bad at all, it's not necessarily my cup of tea. While it isn't Vietnam War draft dodging music, it's not exactly folk, either. At time it hits that sweet spot ("Helpless" & "Deja Vu",) but other times I'm just left sitting there. Thankfully, it's only 36 minutes.
Nothing stood out to me, it was like background music
its a shame because I really enjoyed parts of this album, but every time I hear Neil Young's voice a shiver of rage runs down my spine
It was alright
First three songs: oh this is better than I thought it would be. Then, fucking Neil young. I have no idea what he brings to this band other than one of the whiniest voices in pop culture. Rest of the album 3, he brings it down to a 2
ashamed to admit I found this album a bit boring.
I liked this album more than anything else we’ve listened to that featured Neil Young. I’ve said before that Neil Young’s is far more suited to predominantly acoustic music, and this album continued to prove that true. There’s some dark folk vibes throughout this album that resonate at times, but it’s a little disjointed overall. It almost feels more like a compilation of the four artists, rather than a cohesive body of work. I’m not entirely convinced that this album deserves to be on this list, but I guess there’s a lot worse. 2*
Partially listened before Favourite tracks: Woodstock, Our House, Country Girl
Nothing to stir any excitement. Lyricists just don't do ot for me
I would never listen to this album on my own. I can recognize Neil Young's voice and I do not know how.
Interesting story behind the production of this, but otherwise this sounds like what it is, the transition from the Woodstock era to the rock of the 70s. It's all fine but not special for me, although looking at various comments it clearly means a lot to some people and it's one of those albums that encapsulates an era. Country Girl is the stand-out tune for me, it builds up and goes somewhere while most of the rest of the tracks stay pretty level musically.
Classic to a point, but unfortunately more of the same.
I don't know. Seems disjointed to me. Some songs are good. Some classics. Some not good at all.
Honestly was underwhelmed. I like our house but other than that nothing was bad just not my cup of tea.
Why do people like this??
How four guys can put their talents and minds together to create one of the most boring albums of all time is impressive in itself. I guess you have to eat kale salad to enjoy this.
Neil Young sings like a 3rd grader
Not my cup of tea.
Music your grandpa will love.
looking at the cover, a lot of things are happening. This is the first time I’m hearing about this band. So I did some research and read pretty much everything about David Crosby, how he was part of the Byrds and on the entire band, how it formed etc. Have had my fair share of listening to folk (Bob Dylan, The Mamas and The Papas, loved them both) Usually whenever I listen to an album I try to find one song that hits per say, I vibe with it basically and can listen to it all over again. So far all the albums I have listened to with this generator, I have found at least one song that really resonated with me. This album didn't have any of it, although the last one (Everybody I Love you) had some kick to it. Overall, I wasn't really impressed.
Oh, the harmonies! Don't think I'd listen to this album again though.
2nd star for the line "Let my freak flag fly".
I am usually very wary of "supergroups", I find that it tends to be more of a hype bubble than mych substance to it. I find thr same here. Apparently this album was wildly praised and insanely acclaimed. I find it ok, it is pleasant enough, but really doesn't do much in any direction.
Eh, forgettable.
Oh man, this country and western music is killing me. Slide guitar and harmony vocals, I feel like I'm going to be sick. Something rockier flashes up a few times, but it disappears almost immediately. I can listen to it, but I have to have had breakfast beforehand, on an empty stomach, no. Do I give it stars, fine, because Neil Young is in it. But no more than 2. I really have to eat something.
I didn't like this album. It was very 'soft'
i liked some of the songs but overall i found the album pretty boring
It was stale, and they also recorded the album with way too low of a volume. One, or two decent songs isn't enough for a higher rating. Favorite Song: "Deja Vu".
# Playlist Track - Our House # Notes - A bit slow and repetitive. - I can't dig the harmonies in every single song. Just not my thing. - I HATED the chorus on "Country Girl".
Starts weak (especially the insufferable "Teach Your Children"), but gets better as it goes along. I can't imagine listening to this album again, let alone being a member of the band and having to perform these songs for 45+ years. I know CSNY were all the rage in the Woodstock era, but I guess you had to be there.
Not very memorable again.
Not bad
The times when it shines are amazing. Those harmonies man. But then there’s songs like Almost Cut My Hair, a truly terrible song about being an annoying hippy. Standing up for something? What? Oh something completely immaterial. Shut the fuck up. And then after that Neil Young shits all over it with Helpless. One of the problems with a super group like this is some members SHOULDN’T be given equal footing or in this case writing credit. Stick to your lane. It makes the whole project inconsistent. Blegh
Country rock. It was alright, nothing really stood out to me personally.
Nah
Opening song bangs (Carry On). Unsurprisingly, the Neil Young parts are the best. The rest is replacement level 60s folk rock.
My parents subjected me to CSN&Y too much when I was a kid and I hated it. I realize that technically this is decent songwriting and musicianship, but I just can't. Especially Teach Your Children. Oh lord. No.
I hate this album. It's super lame. I mean the whole sound of it is just so cheesy and dated. The musicianship is solid but this genre just does nothing for me. The vocals are mostly lauded but I find them to be so stereotypical for this genre and time period. Not every song needs everyone in the band to sing all at the same time. The saving grace was Neil Young's contributions and the songs where his vocals are (mostly) solo are the best. But even then, the chorus rolls around and we have a sing-along again. CS&N were so much worse without him, so this album has that going for it I guess. There are some excellent guitar parts (mostly thanks to Neil Young) but that's not really enough to keep it from just being uninteresting. I feel like all the boomers that love this album love it purely for nostalgic reasons, and that's valid (for them) I guess - I'm sure there are plenty of records I like just for the nostalgia. But listening to this record 54 years later, it doesn't have anything that would make me ever want to put it on again. 2.25/5 rounding down.
Unfamiliar. Fave song: Our House. Hmm would rate it 2. Other highlights almost cut my hair (I liked the guitar), Last minute of Deju Vu. 4+20 (mellow, nice story). Can see how some people would like this but honestly as a whole not my vibe. I was happy when the last song came on.
Supremely bland. 3/10
Meh
Dull
I'm about one tenth of the way through this list, and the sheer volume of folk and folk tinged albums is almost embarrassing. Other forms of music exist! That being said, the track "Helpless" by Neil Young is good. It's no wonder Young has managed a career spanning decades while the others remain relics.
This was painful.
It’s been over a month since my last Neil Young related album; I was getting worried. This has been my favorite so far — only 36 minutes long! Four stars for the run time, five stars for David Crosby’s hat, two star for the ones who aren’t Crosby and Young, minus 19 stars for that song about teaching children well.
All sounds the same
I didn’t find anything bad on this but it also came across as pretty forgettable. Two songs I loved but everything else was just there. 2.5/5
meh. 3rd song is decent and had it in one of my playlists already but rest is a snoozer
So so
First time listening to a CSN(+Y) album. So far I've given a 5 to Crosby, a 3 to Stills, and a 2 to Young+Crazy Horse, whose upper-register singing voice is like nails on a chalkboard to me. Nash remains an enigma, but I get the feeling he's a little too twee and whimsical for my liking, like McCartney's bad days. This album has done nothing to change my beliefs, although I think given enough time I can build a compilation I enjoy. S: Almost Cut My Hair A: Country Girl B: Deja Vu, 4+20 C: Carry On, Woodstock, Everybody I Love You D: Helpless, Our House F: Teach Your Children
Not my style but chill
Classic, but I think I should have been alive at the time to really enjoy it.
Really don't like Neil Young's voice
This album unfortunately doesn’t appeal to me as much as I feel like it should. I love Neil Young and respect the hell out of him, but Déjà Vu sort of pales to CSN’s 1969 debut without Young. I think the live 4 Way Street with Young is the best that the group has, but that also features a lot of Young’s solo stuff performed live. It really surprises me that Déjà Vu is the best-selling album of any of the members’ careers, but I suppose I can be glad for that because it furthered Young’s career in particular and allowed him to record and release some of his best music later in the 70s and beyond.
- Our House is a Bean classic - other than that this is meh
Here’s the thing: all four of these guys are accomplished musicians and songwriters. But maybe, the four of them together is a bit much and the end result suffers for it. This album is everything I dislike about 70s music: cheesy vocal harmonies, easy listening tunes, and country western affectations. It is only saved from one star by a couple of moments in “Almost Cut My Hair” and “Country Girl.”
Teach your children Woodstock Déjà Vu Our House Had some good tracks but nothing to be blown away by
It’s fine, lots of acoustic guitars, lots of folky voices. It’s chill, easy to listen to, I can see why people would enjoy it, but I’m not especially moved by anything on the album.
Probably a record that needs several listens and concentrating on the lyrics. As a background record it was fine, but didn't really do anything for me.
Horny for harmony
A 2 without Neil. Just can’t muster much enthusiasm for sappy hippie-folk, ya know?
Well, I've dropped this album and picked it up several times and while it's nice, it's not resonating to me. Some beauty here but it's somehow cluttered with how the sound is. It's rather folksy. A bit of a shrill tenor - not a smooth base,l - music experience. The strings and vocals are a clear combo. Quite the signature. It's got firm harmony's, but that doesn't mean I like it. I can see tracks to like, it's just not gelling for me. I can't really think of a place or time to enjoy this. It's just a bit of a void album to me. It just sinks within me without a trace. 2 stars. Maybe three ... Nah, let's go 2.
Pretty inoffensive. At least it wasn't very long. I am not a fan of any single one of these artists, and with them together I guess it wasn't bad. But I didn't really enjoy it either.
