I literally feel nothing when I listen to Radiohead's music. Like objectively it's good but when I sit down to listen to an album all the songs blend into one.
No shade on Radiohead, but I'm a few tracks in and I want to hear something new. Ok wait as I typed the above the drop to "Sit Down. Stand Up." Just dropped. Ok I've heard "Sail To the Moon" before. Let's See what Ryan Adams has for me.

Like all of Radiohead’s complex stuff, it grows on me each listen. It’s crazy that even though it’s grown on me a lot and I think it’s a really solid album, it’s still like my fifth or sixth favorite Radiohead album. Rating: 4.3

This was alright I guess,can’t really remember any of it.I’m not really fond of electronic Radiohead.
This isn’t what I thought Radiohead sounded like. I really liked his voice and the background music. I don’t understand where all the hate is from because I would honestly listen to this on the normal. 8/10
There were some cool sounding songs on this album but I didn’t vive with the lyrics. They seemed pretty down. 6/10
Probably one of the most middle of the pack albums I've heard from Radiohead. As a fan I just don't understand why this album is here when they have 3 better albums to choose from. Decent sounding with lyrics that are impossible to understand and he sounds a lot like Muse on this album. 5/10
Never really listened to Radiohead. I know what they sound like and know people really dig em. They just never really clicked for me. I think it has been a combination of not liking some of the vocals and mixed feelings on the instrumentals. There were a couple songs I did enjoy on this album like “2+2=5” and “Sit down stand up”. I really did not like “Backdrifts” at all. Then there were songs like “We Suck Young Blood” that I hated. I feel like the singer to Radiohead jacks it to his own voice. He doesn’t really have the greatest voice, I mean it’s ok, but the way he isolates himself and puts the spotlight on his vocals is pretentious and annoying, especially when it all kind of sounds the same (not just this album but any Radiohead song I have heard). 3/10

Got the full album experience while doing data sorts at work. I am familiary with Radiohead but this was not what I was expecting. Really did not impress me. It just was there. I would probably not listen again.

Am I missing something here? Either I'm completely out of touch, or Radiohead is one of the most overrated bands ever. Like I'm 725+ albums deep and this is the 5th one of theirs on here. If the first four didn't do it for me, this one won't either. Album was just meh to ok... kind of like the rest of their music. It's all the same... droning on and on unintelligible lyrics with wonky instrumentals. 3/10.
Don't get it at all

I love this album but there are a few mediocre songs mixed in here that bump my overall rating down.
This rating may be a bit unfair- the 3 is more in comparison to OK Computer, Kid A, and In Rainbows than all other albums…it was a good listen!

It's always a welcome surprise to revisit another radiohead album (I didn't expect this one to be on the list) especially one that I haven't listened to a whole bunch. I listen to 2+2=5 regularly, which is still my favorite after this listen, but there are only a few other bangers--backdrifts, there there, and sorta wolf at the door--that I really enjoy. The rest just feels like a kind of middle of the road between electronic Kid A and electronic rock In Rainbows. I'd put it slightly below the bends but way above pablo honey or king of limbs even though backdrifts kinda sounds like a king of limbs song.
I don’t know, it’s fine and everything, I mean it’s Radiohead so of course it’s good. But honestly, it’s not even one of my top five Radiohead albums. It’s four stars, just because it’s better than 85% of the albums on this list. But it’s not top-tier.
Overall enjoyed it. Sometimes bands like Radiohead a hit or miss with me. I like some stuff, but occasionally it sounds like ambient noise. This one I liked, but not enough to make it a regular listen. 3.5/5 Might listen again
Radiohead kick ass. But this is not a particularly memorable set of songs.
Hail Radiohead
Great album I had not listened to all the way through in some years. I am a massive RH slut though. I am putting 4 to leave room for the 5's, but I love this album ALOT.
Having been pleasantly surprised by OK Computer, this is more like what I imagined Radiohead would sound like, and it has just left me absolutely cold. Dreary, anaemic tunes, nothing stood out. Instantly forgettable

I'd say probably the most accessible Radiohead album I've heard on this list. The genres are kind of all over the place which keeps any of it from getting stale, but many of the songs just don't really build to anything or create any tension or make much of a statement on the state of the world and politics, which after all is pretty much what this record wants to be about. 7/10
Love Radiohead
I really liked the album it was very chill music to clean my room with!
Ik zou het niet gedacht hebben, maar via dit experiment zit ik nu aan mijn tweede radiohead plaat en ik ben weer fan. Enkele mindere nummers hier, Kid A vind ik over heel de lijn beter, maar toch nice. Het gaar hier dan vooral over nummers zoals We suck young blood. De "zaag nummers"... al moet ik wel zeggen dat niemand zo mooi kan zagen! Al bij al tof dus!
Might be the most underrated Radiohead album. Back half has some of my favorite tunes. Such an amazing run. 5/5

Boring and pretentious. Anything interesting happening musically is killed by overly repetitive lyrics. Half way through I have an overwhelming desire to punch the singer in the face just so he would shut up. This album is way too long. I might enjoy it after a lobotomy.

I feel like there's something in supposed to 'get' about this album that I just don't. Unlistenably weird in a few places.

I did enjoy hearing this one for the first time, some of the songs are a very strange and interesting but I wouldn’t choose to listen again. I think I prefer Radiohead a little rockier and less moany like on OK Computer.
Which of the list's Radioheys is this, Sleepy, Happy, Dopey, Bashful, Berkshire or Dave? There’s always at least one song I like on these albums, There There in this case. The rest is a bric a brac of gourmet elements shotgunned against a white gallery wall beside explanatory text autogenerated by a bored curator, secretly playing artfuck bullshit bingo. I like the soundtrack work of Greenwood’s I’ve heard, and having somehow seen them twice for free I must report that they were fun when I bothered to watch. Plus, from a chat with members of their long-time road crew when I couldn’t be bothered to watch, they sound like nice people. Simon, advance trigger warning: other RH records on this list may push me above 2 - please don’t shun me!
Didn't hate this as much as In Rainbows or Kid A, as there were occasional hints of a tune behind the noodling. Still has that awful whine going on - surely no-one can enjoy the "singing" attempted here? And there are far better examples of drone/electronica/experimental music since the late '60s. Highly over-rated crap as ever!

It is a Radiohead album. It isn't particularly good. It is better than other albums. This album seemed better than the other Radiohead albums on this list. No need to revisit.
A cryptic blend of rock and electronic music that can feel jumbled at times.

This is maybe the fifth or sixth best Radiohead album (IMO), and it's still a pretty easy 5/5. Favorite track is maybe "There There", but there are plenty other contenders.
I really like this album. Plenty of highlights without being a blockbuster. Will listen again.
Woah, this is way better than I recalled. I just remember being so turned off Radiohead's stuff after OK Computer, finding it too dense and complex and ethereal. But twenty years later, this sounds like a natural evolution from the likes of OKC. Heaps of beautiful melodies, intricate guitar work, and nods to their pop-rock past, wrapped in a prog-spacey package.
People actually listen to this? I can't understand a word, it's so repetitive and often dissonant. I feel like maybe I should have been high and it would have been slightly better, but even then I have taste.
Couldn’t convince myself to like anything from this album. Most songs are all over the place and melodically poor. Some songs have redeeming qualities but the mumbled vocals and odd additions ruin it.
I enjoyed the album, but even after a couple listens, there wasn’t a song that was a particular standout for me. I think I’m a bit partial to earlier Radiohead, as “Karma Police” is one of my favorite songs of all time. This one was good, but didn’t meet that high bar.

It felt like a combination of U2, Pink Floyd, and Depeche Mode to me. I really enjoyed the spaciousness and darkness of the album. There’s great range both in the album overall and in individual songs. The SFX and percussion are really cool! I really don’t have anything negative to say about this album!

no alternate releases on this one! how're we feeling tonight, radiohead? track 1, 2 + 2 = 5: yeah same here honestly. we start off with guitar in only the right ear, which i immediately do not like. (around 1:20 the audio balances out) after that, solid song no complaints 7/10 track 2, Sit Down Stand Up: ooh, kinda haunting??? the nearly-drumstep drum fill starting at 3 minutes in really captures my attention, 7.5/10 track 3, Sail to the Moon: much slower, a little somber. 8/10 track 4, Backdrifts: oh the VWORPS you're gonna have to trust me on this one take a listen. 9/10 track 5, Go to Sleep: wait a minute, this isn't morgan freeman narrating the book "go the f**k to sleep"! haha, anyway, this song slaps, 8/10 track 6, Where I End and You Begin: mm. this one's ETHEREAL. 8/10 track 7, We Suck Young Blood: okay we need everyone in the studio to clap into the mic on beat seven. ready? CLAP. great work everyone you can all go home now. this one's also very somber/ethereal, 7 (beats)/10 track 8, The Gloaming: ethereal x3 combo, one more and we've won the game of connect four. i like the arpeggiation of the synth in the background but not enough to rate this one higher, another 7/10 track 9, There There: while we did not hit the four-in-a-row, this song brings pretty good energy. 8/10 track 10, I Will: despite the game Hades coming out some seventeen years after this album, i am getting very strong Orpheus vibes from this song. very good. 9/10 track 11, A Punchup at a Wedding: OH and the last track transitions in smoothly let's goooooo. that bass and and piano with a simple backbeat is just so good. can't give this any lower than a 9.5/10 track 12, Myxomatosis: and we start off CRUNCHY i'm such a fan of this sawtooth-sounding synth. 9/10 track 13, Scatterbrain: you know, i actually don't mind the guitar only being in one ear for this one. 8/10 track 14, A Wolf at the Door: one final slower/somber track to finish off. 7.5/10 not a lot to say overall: 8/10 -> 4/5, once again radiohead not being something i'd go out of my way to listen to but being well worth the time spent to listen

This isn't a bad album, and I think I may be becoming a Radiohead fan, if but all the tracks didn't sound so similar.
Didnt have time to listen to the entire album but oh my god, what a strong start it had. I loved the overwhelming presence of rock, yet the indie like sad sound to it. Once again, Radiohead blew my mind.

Boring!
Today I learned why I'd never heard any of my radiohead fanboy friends play it. 'There, There' is the obvious standout track, and it's almost a shame that it's surrounded by so much... Of whatever this album is trying to be. Weak album for radiohead, but then radiohead has never been a band I like anyway. There, There sounds like a tragically hip cover, and maybe that's why I appreciate it.
Incredible album, such a shift from their early offerings yet retains their core feel.
It all sounds a bit sad.
A bit of a schizo RH album which recovers some of the guitar led more rock content of their earlier days in some of the strongest songs like There, There and 2+2 = 5 and yet has others which are out of the Kid A / Amnesiac vein. But for lack of overall coherency (and tbh who cares) there's still much that shines much more brightly than any contemporary including one of my favourite RH songs, Sail The Moon, written by Thom Yorke for his baby son at the time.
The album's blend of electronic and traditional instruments is a welcome change and resonates even years after its release.
I know I'll be exiled for this, but I didn't like this album. Chaotic, discordant, all over the place, whiny. Some pretty good songs on there, but mostly not really for me.
I made it up to track 12: Myxomatosis. Have you ever seen a rabbit with myxomatosis? I have and it looks exactly like this sounds

An album as bleak as 2003, Hail to the Thief captures the ambient dread, malice, and sense of distant violence of the metropole at the dawn of the global war on terror. It kicks off with 2+2=5's synths going off like an alarm. There There is that era's best song, a refusal of the injunction to become a terrorized paranoid freak sensing danger lurking in every corner - "Just cuz you feel it, doesn't mean it's there". The amalgam of electronic sounds and (relatively) raw guitar parts, chaotic techno beats, frenetic synths, close but off kilter harmonies, and bleated vocals ratchet up the tension over and over. Though there is the odd cathartic climax, there's little relief - the songs don't resolve into stable melodies or return to familiar terrain. Drunken Punch Up offers a bit of a groove to sink into, then layers with with discordance. Myxomatosis has a heavy synth riff that's used a platform for more textural experimentation. Sail to the Moon is a disquieting lullaby with its relaxed piano. ethereal reverby guitar parts, uneasy synths and searching vocals. Wolf At the Door is like a nightmare nursery rhyme with a guitar part that's always falling forward into the next arpeggio without resolving as the vocal descends wildly into a frenzy until catching itself at the last minute, fading away deceptively sweetly. This is the soundtrack of a world spinning out of control.
Gained a whole new appreciation for this album on this listen through.
This album is REALLY good, but when you’ve heard what five-star Radiohead sounds like it’s hard not to compare everything else they do to their gold standard. It’s no Kid A, but it’s still a damn good collection of songs. Just doesn’t have that extra touch of sonic and thematic cohesion to take it all the way.
Too incohesive for me to give a 5, but I like most of these tracks individually. There, There; Where You End and I Begin; Sit Down. Stand Up; and Myxomatosis are probably my favorites. I don't like many of the slower songs on here as much, and Radiohead would end up doing that style better on In Rainbows anyways.
This album has music on it! Still, a few tracks keep it from being 4 stars but I really enjoyed a few tracks on this one

Not quite peak Radiohead but a dark, rich album that's worth exploring. An interesting halfway point between the electronic paranoia of Kid A/Amnesiac and the ultra-clean arpeggiated rock of In Rainbows. Best song: 2 + 2 = 5

I would listen to this. Infrequently. Once again not the greatest vocals, but the music was quite good, with a couple of standout elements used in various songs.
It felt like the album would be playing in a teenagers headphones in a horror tv show as they drive up to their new house. I kinda got my fill for the album after the first few songs and it kinda just gave me more of the same from there. If you do like Radio head I enjoy Car seat headrest There album Twin fantasy has the same kinda vibes.
Gave a lot of thought about this rating..... I'm not sure how I disliked this more than Metallica.......but here I am.... I couldnt wait for this album to end :c

Prior to re-listening to this, I knew I preferred The Bends, OK Computer, Kid A, In Rainbows and A Moon Shaped Pool. However good Hail To the Thief may be, it is definitely not Radiohead's finest. But re-listening caused those opinions to dissipate. 2 + 2 = 5 was the first Radiohead song which I truly appreciated. First the tuning in. Followed by the shifting time signatures. The guitar hook which grabs and thrashes. Then there's the foreboding Sit Down. Stand Up. The eerie command. The pulses. The new expanding beat. The Mingus climax. The beautiful rolling Sail To The Moon. The hanging voice. The to. The fro. The floating flickering Backdrifts. The ghost within the mixer. Go To Sleep and Where I End and You Begin then begin to tread water, but even then there's a guitar pop here and there to add a flourish. Soon piano chords pull us back into the maelstrom. The desperate croaked voices of We Suck Young Blood. The miscued claps. The begging. The omnipresent bass of The Gloaming. The crackles. The hi-hat so thin it could shatter. The droned percussion of There, There. The relief of electric guitar. The wail. The guitars again. The freshness. The twisted harmonies of I Will. The hip-hop backing of A Punch Up at a Wedding. The piano-voice atonalities. The frail high notes. The disassociation of Myxomatosis. The suffocation. The too thick air in Scatterbrain. The down-pitched screwed up blues of A Wolf At the Door. The sheer end. What a mad bad and terrible ride.
A great album despite the questionable maths.
That was a ride. There is no other group like Radiohead. More uncanny, original, experimental than the Radiohead that I know but I really enjoyed it.
Redolent of much better musicians who work in this type of sound. Musicians who don't have Yorke's irritating whine all over their music

1/5 - I do not understand the love for this band. Perhaps I'm missing the point and the genius but I dislike this album. It is impressive how listening to this horribly mixed album sounds bad across all listening devices.
Great album, less experimental than their previous album but still extremely enjoyable. It is a long way from perfect though, the album feels disjointed and overly long, I think this one could have benefited from a bit more work to homogenise the music and cut out some of the lesser contributions to the tracklist.

Not my type
Radiohead always seems to surprise me. And at the same time, I feel like I have to approach them slowly. Initially, I wasn't a fan of them. Now as I slowly inhale them, I can appreciate them. As every album is vastly different, yet the same... I still don't find their material as easily accessible as like artists. Give me time, my opinion changes, as I slowly appreciate what is in front of me, and with a new ear and perception. Radiohead has been the longest I've ever given a band a chance. And I'm glad I'm slowly coming around. Would listen to this again. It's not my favorite but I like it.

I cannot abide Radiohead.
We've had 2 Radiohead albums before this; this is better than Amnesiac (2), but not close to as good as OK Computer (4). So I guess it has to be a 3? 2+2=5 is a good song, but the rest is a bit too wallowy and dirgey for me. Nothing really sticks with me in the way that 3-4 tracks from OK Computer did. 3/5.

I never really listened to Radiohead beyond OK Computer, but this is a bit Mars Volta-ish and I really love Mars Volta, but there’s something about Radiohead I just can’t get. Liked the first song and the last song, the rest just kind of was there
It was okay, I’m not massively into Radiohead personally a part from some of their big hitters. What I did like about this album was the almost improvisational feeling, a few of the songs sounded like they were jamming.

great album! i agree with the other commenters that this is a 5-star 1001-albums-album but like a 4.5/5 for radiohead themselves. it's no ok computer or kid a or in rainbows but it is pleasant and weird and enjoyable and complex like we've come to expect from thom and the boys. favorites: 2+2=5, sit down stand up, sail to the moon, backdrifts, where i end and you begin, there there, myxomatosis, a wolf at the door
Did 1001 Albums know that we were going to have a cloudy, rainy day today and give us “Hail To the Thief” to match the weather? (Two songs by my count explicitly reference rain!) The music on this album is a fusion of anxious electronic beats and shape-shifting prog-rock. Most of it casts a gloomy tone. It’s a dense, rich album. Every song feels dense and packed with details. There’s always a few interesting elements in the production that give each song it’s own weird, uneasy personality. The compositions are complex too. The songs frequently swerve and move in a new direction. What holds the album back from greatness for me is that each of the 14 songs feels like an island. The transitions between them are often jarring. Even though there is a consistent tone and style, each song somehow feels self-contained, like it doesn’t need the others. Or maybe it’s just that overcast tone that holds me back from loving the album. There are probably a few songs that could have been cut too. I’m just nitpicking though because Radiohead are one of my favorite bands. There’s a lot to enjoy on this album. “A Punchup at a Wedding” is a standout. I love that sexy bass line. The band actually sounds a little loose on that one. And oooh “Myxomatosis” rocks so hard! This is the best Radiohead album cover and one of my favorite album covers in general. I love reading through all the words. It captures the anxiety of living in the modern world where everything is screaming at you for attention. 4.5
I used to be a stand-in member of a metal band (stand-in by choice, the music wasn't my favorite but it was a group of friends that I liked) and in the practice space / basement-hang-out-zone of the drummer they had a ton of band posters, and this was one of them. I used to drunkenly stare at this while having the same conversations on pretty much every weekend of my late teen's and early twenties. Full transparency - sometimes I hear Radiohead and I can't help but think that they are overrated. That idea usually pops into my head when I hear their albums / songs that don't blow me away, and I think this is one of those albums. Personally, I think I have this complex where I tend to devalue art/music that sounds similar to something that I make or something that I strive to make. Not that I'm comparing myself to Radiohead, but this sound and more specifically the building blocks are things that I've been writing my own music around- electronic drums, fuzzy guitars, post-rock guitar parts, droney synths, piano/orchestral moments, modal interchange and overall meter ambiguity... and the odd super catchy hook. Those are all elements that I use in my own songwriting, almost exactly to the T. Weirdly enough, there's not many bands that do all of that at once- the list that immediately comes to my mind exclusively has Radiohead on it and no other act. Also, not that I'm trying to break down Radiohead into these simplified variables, but that's what I do when I try to understand music better. For what it's worth, I really like Radiohead and I think they are one of the best rock bands of all time, but I'm just aware of this and aware of how it can color my enjoyment of various bands and acts. This album is one of those that doesn't blow me away. It absolutely doesn't feel weak to me, but I think they have done better. Still worthy of a strong 4/5 however.

I bought this album on midnight the day it came out. It wasn’t my favorite Radiohead album, but it has stood the test of time as an excellent example of the creativity and incredible songwriting of this band at their peak.
Oh geez. They are trying really hard to put me to sleep with this album.
It's listening for a relatively dull weathered Monday at work. Expect little in the way of excitement but you're not going to be perturbed by 36 trumpets or herbs and spices at any point, which is certainly refreshing. It's all really inoffensive but also all really insubstantial, and for this, it gets my highest yet the most average of scores, 3*.
Another album where the lead singles are very good and listenable, it flows well but some of the songs are a bit too ploddy and slow for me. almost fell asleep during backdrifts which ironically led into one of the best songs on the album... 'go to sleep' 'There There and 'A Punch up at a wedding' brings this back up to a 3 for me

For years, I had dismissed this album as the drop in form after, arguably, the greatest three album run in music history. I realise now that this was slightly harsh. It still has a banger or two (“Stand Up, Sit Down”) but it’s nowhere near the mess I thought at the time

Honestly I love Radiohead, but this record doesn't do it for me.
As I get older, I appreciate Radiohead more. A lot of their songs still make me sleepy though. When it came out, I had no idea how political this album was. The blending of electronic and rock is really interesting. I can see how this influenced a whole wave of alt rock.
This is the first Radiohead album I have ever listened to all the way through. I wouldn't consider myself a Radiohead Fan, and this album didn't change that. Don't get me wrong, I don't hate them-they are just not really my cup of tea. As far as this album goes, I preferred the more "rock" leaning tracks and less so the more "electronic" leaning ones. There were a few tracks that I liked, but the overall feel, for me anyways, was a kind of mopey, trudging, and repetitive. I am glad I listened to this album, but it will probably be the last time I ever hear it.
I appreciate the artistry but can take Radiohead only in small doses. In other words I need to be in the mood for them.

Nou daar gaan we, we zitten wel een beetje in de muziek nerdhoek zeg met eerst Pink Floyd en meteen daarna Radiohead.. Wat me meteen opvalt; waar ik Pink Floyd vaak heel mooi en trippy vond is Radiohead meteen een stuk steviger en harder. Daardoor ook veel drukker. Ik vond het album van Pink Floyd heel mooi in het minimalisme, omdat er soms hele stukken niets gebeurde, dan is Radiohead wel even een flink style switch. De muziek is muzikaal interessant, er gebeurt echt een hoop. Mijn probleem hiermee is echter wel 1 ding: ik vind de zanger een vrij zeikerige stem hebben en ga daar niet zo lekker op... Dit is vooral heel erg duidelijk op Backdrifts, wat een zeikerd zeg... Hopen op meer instrumentele nummers later! We Suck Young blood vind ik persoonlijk heel saai. Ik moet zeggen dat dit vergeleken met Pink Floyd echt niet geweldig is. Muzikaal veel saaier, zang is veel zeikeriger... Mijn god... Ik ben nu bij I will en ik tel echt de nummers af voor die album voorbij is. This aint it chief, ik wil heel graag andere muziek luisteren en denk dat ik hierna een uur euphoric trance ga zitten luisteren om bij te komen van deze depri stuff. Daar is ie dan, het eerste Radiohead album. Vrezen voor het ergste, want dit kan nooit goed zijn. Uiteindelijk valt het me mee, maar het geeft me gewoon zo'n zielig vibe en daar kan ik niet zoveel mee. 90% procent van de muziek die ik graag luister, maakt me vrolijk, een soort escapisme van onze kapitalistische hel. En dit drukt me met de neus op de feiten van die werkelijkheid, en ik vind het maar niets. Muzikaal op zich wel een interessant huwelijk tussen rock en elektronische muziek. I may have been in the wrong mood to listen to this album. Parts were good; sit Down Dtand up reminded me of early, Syd Barrett era Pink Floyd and a Punch Up at a Wedding is a pretty damn good song but the rest is just kinda meh.
OK Computer klonk vertrouwd en had een zekere afwisseling, hier hoor ik echter niet veel spannends aan. Beetje jammeren met een gitaar erbij. Het heeft een zekere sfeer, dus vooruit.
Eerder noemde ik een album van Radiohead al dreinend. Dat kon ik bij dat album nog wel hebben. Maar nu gaat het gedrein soms door merg en been. Ik ben zelden zo gepijnigd door muziek. Een 1, omdat lager niet kan.
Ik ben persoonlijk meer fan van de eerdere albums van Radiohead, waar de gitaar nog de boventoon voerde. Op een gegeven moment sloegen ze aan het experimenteren, eigenlijk al vanaf OK Computer, wat dan wel weer een meesterwerk is. Maar de albums daarna, kid A en Amnesiac, waren voor mij te experimenteel. Op Hail to the Thief komen ze weer een beetje terug op ouderwets terrein, al is het dan wel naar OK Computer. Het blijft allemaal behoorlijk experimenteel en wazig, maar er zit tenminste weer regelmatig een gitaar in voor mijn idee. Ik kan het enigszins hebben, omdat ik dit album in de grote mp3bak heb gehad vroeger, maar als het van een onbekende band was geweest, dan had ik dit album ook links laten liggen. Een kleine 3 halen ze net hiermee, ook omdat ik weet dat ik nog wel lagere cijfers aan ze ga uitdelen waarschijnlijk.

This is the only "good" Radiohead album I hadn't listened to (still haven't listened to King of Limbs or Pablo Honey). It's fine because Radiohead are like always of quality, but I think it's my least favorite album of theirs I've heard to date. 3.5/5

I put off listening to this because I heard that it wasn’t popular when released. There are some amazing songs on this, and it I think their sound is completely unique. There are a couple of songs that could be dropped in my opinion but it is such a high quality album compared to some other dross on the list. I love how Radiohead can reinvent themselves and continue to make dark, interesting and challenging music (that is somehow catchy and sing-along) throughout the years, but I understand it’s not for everyone. It’s easily 5/5 despite being inferior to other Radiohead albums (incredible album art too).
This isn't one of my favorite Radiohead albums. I almost never go to this one because it's just low to mid level in the Radiohead discography, which isn't really a diss when you consider how strong it is. I always remember the day I purchased this. Metallica had just released St. Anger and when I went to my local music store I had to choose between this and that. I may not adore this album but I'm certainly glad that I chose it over St. Anger. I can't give it anything but a 4. It's a good listen, but if I want to listen to a Radiohead album in full, this one ain't it. It's best to just mine out the gems and move on.

I don't think I can give this album a pure rating because I spent most of the listen stewing and wondering what this Radiohead album is bringing to the table that wasn't already served up in the previous (many) ones in the project. It was fine, but nothing that I found particularly outstanding.
Sank into it about halfway through. I find that I want to like Radiohead more than I like them. But this was a decent soundtrack for a late afternoon bus ride.
I was introduced to Radiohead a year or so before the release of this album, so this was the first Radiohead album I anticipated and then purchased on CD the day it came out. I was not disappointed. I had grown increasingly disillusioned by my country, my government, and my fellow man. This album has just the right tone and message to serve as a soundtrack to this challenging phase of my life. It continues to help me cope with my cynicism about my fellow countrymen and our future. Commiserating with this album counterintuitively helps relieve the utter despair I’m often tempted to wallow in. When this came out some of my friends were disappointed. Some thought it was too “conventional”, but listening to it now you’d really have to limit the context to Radiohead albums and its ilk to make such a contention. These are far from conventional songs. I’ve always kind of thought that OK Computer was my favorite from Radiohead. Tonight I realize that I could easily make the argument for this album. Hail to the Thief is a deep emotional journey that I never tire of taking. It’s an album that has helped prevent me from being consumed as I peer over the edge of the abyss.

Hail To the Thief is a solid outing by Radiohead, yet as with most of Radiohead's sound, I struggle to enjoy Tom Yorke's vocal work. However, despite this their melodies are almost soothing to listen to on this record. Best: The Gloaming Worst: I Will
To some it may be the band’s political album, but to me it’s their Halloween album. I imagine it soundtracking a particularly ghoulish night, with dusk falling just before 2+2+5, the witching hour beginning during The Gloaming (obviously), and the first light of morning finally beginning to filter through around Scatterbrain. Loads o’ cool spooky sounds and imagery on here; I try to listen to it every 31st of October, if I can. Not every track is among Radiohead’s greatest (a handful of them are), but I still think the mix of guitars, electronics and a couple of weird left-turns (Thom Yorke rapping!) make for a very enjoyable listen. 4.5 stars.
As of now it has been 7 years since Radiohead released an album. They may be done forever. Therefore the lesser known or not as popular albums are always worth revisiting. I’m glad I got this album. I’ve always had it pretty lowly ranked but after listening to this maybe 5 or 6 times, I have enjoyed it significantly more. It has the electronic sound Kid A does through many of the songs but this time they are styled differently. There’s are songs with more guitar and heavier rock sounds. There’s one that’s more fluid and almost jazz like. The singing style of yorke is more like the later albums. Hail to the thief is underrated for a Radiohead album. It’s definitely not their best but to me it has climbed the rankings. 8.4/10
1st Radiohead, after 520 albums. There goes my dream of making it to 1001 without one (jokes) Unlike the other Radiohead entries in the book, I'm not familiar with any of these songs save the opener. My first impression is that it's especially devoid of warmth even for them. That's not really a complaint though; even at their most desolate and icy there's beauty to be found, whether it's in the post-punk screech of "There There", the eerie analogs in "Myxomatosis" or the piano/handclaps of "We Suck Young Blood" that evoke gospel & horror in equal measure. It's also overlong and messy, but for once that doesn't kill the buzz for me. Note to self: I wonder if I overrate albums that coincidentally match the vibe of the day? This is a repeat listen for me already being a big Radiohead fan and my opinions have not really changed on the album. Still think this is a slightly underrated Radiohead album with some great tracks with a political presence and industrial sound. It’s a crossroads between the guitar driven early Radiohead albums such as The Bends and OK Computer and their early 2000s electronic work such as Kid A and Amnesiac. The album is a bit bloated and has some mediocrity but overall a great album.

Thom Yorke's vocals are decent but this album is the start of the decline for me. We Suck Young Blood is where it gets a bit much vocal fry and I want him to clear his throat with a hot cup of tea with lemon. Side note, "A Punch Up At a Wedding" is a great song name. Very unique sound and writing. Not my absolute favorite, but I respect the hell out of it. The chords and progressions used are very interesting, they stand out a lot to me. The drums and beats again are rather unique. While I don’t think I’d want to own this album, I’d listen to it again.

One of the albums of this band I spent less time with, and such a shame! It's no Ok Computer or close to Kid A, but this record still reaches a lot of highs! I can see this one getting more spins in the future, loved it! 8 out of 10

I love Radiohead. Period. This isn't their best album but honestly I was pretty surprised at how good some of these were. This should be the soundtrack to the 1984 movie honestly. 2+2=5? That would be super cool. I loved the piano in We Suck Young Blood. Amazing album, 4 stars.
I know Carson is sick of me saying it, but There There is the perfect song. From beginning to end, every note that comes next is exactly the note that should come next. The lyrics are great too. “In pitch dark I go walking through your landscape / Broken branches trip me as I speak” is perfect poetic imagery for a troubled relationship. And “just because you feel it doesn’t mean it’s there” is such timeless wisdom. But none of the rest of the songs are in my Radiohead Top 40. So even for a Radiohead superfan like me, just a 3, on the strength of There There alone.
Longer Radiohead Album. I really like most of it, but it has some moments which are harder to listen to than the majority of their discography.
My least favorite Radiohead album is the most obviously depressing. A friend told me it was his favorite when he was in high school… and that, in hindsight, he must have been “pretty fucked up.” I put it on many times but never got past track 3, because I was not fucked up enough. A shame! The best songs are in the second half! There, There is gorgeous. Sail To The Moon is perfect for its off-kilter, slow-dance-during-the-apocalypse sound. Some of these swim in your head, an afterimage on a screen that never quite goes away. Even if they’re not the most sing-able, they haunt you. Like Amnesiac which we (crazy!) had also this week, you have to be in that mood. The mood that my friend was apparently in all through high school. If you’re there, this is the place. 4/5
MY FIRST RADIOHEAD YAY I was expecting to give this 5/5 just because it's Radiohead and I love Radiohead. But from the first few notes of '2 + 2 = 5', it was crystal clear that this rating was deserved. Absolutely amazing as always. Unpopular opinion but I preferred this one over 'Kid A'. 'Hail to the Thief' grabbed me and demanded to be listened to from the get-go because it's so good, and maintains its excellence throughout. 'Kid A', on the other hand, was carried by 'Everything in its Right Place' on the first listen. 9.5/10.

One of the songs is called "We Suck Young Blood." They should have just shortened it to "We Suck" and then given that title to all the songs and the album too. I know I'm in the minority in hating this band, but that's my opinion.

Like most Radiohead albums on the first listen, I didn’t totally get it. There were definitely some awesome tracks (first two tracks start off very strong) but I got a little bored in the middle. Still a 3.5/5 but that could change with a re-listen

A Radiohead album that finally connected with me! Not sure what I liked about this one that I didn’t like about In Rainbows. Maybe it’s the electronic elements. Maybe I need to give In Rainbows another listen.
Hail to the Thief feels more like a spiritual successor to OK Computer than to the preceding records Kid A and Amnesia, but it does borrow the atmospheric electronic aspects from those two albums. I could definitely see "Backdrifts" and "The Gloaming" belonging on either one of them. It's probably their most mature and confident album. It doesn't reinvent the wheel, but it does try new tricks and throws new surprises at you that, in most cases, work extraordinarily well. Some people consider this to be one of their weakest. And I think that's because the standards are set so high from their other albums which constantly blow you away with otherworldly sounds you never thought was possible. But if you get to this record, you already know what Radiohead is capable of. And although this record does have plenty of "holy shit" and "what the hell?" moments, it doesn't leave as much of an impact. But don't let that fool you. These songs are incredible art rock pieces, each of which highly memorable and immersive. They're fuller, more aggressive, sinister, and direct, but also, most of them are not as flashy as their other albums. I wouldn't say there's a single weak track. I can point out that a few like "Scatterbrain" or "A Punch Up At a Wedding" feel like something's missing to make them complete, but I think it's in an effort to model after the Beatles' concise songwriting tactic. It's not a perfect album. It's not a complete art experience like many of their other albums. But disregarding that unattainable standard, it's a fantastic record that keeps you in the game, with plenty of standout tracks and notable deep cuts that you couldn't argue for any to be filler. It may not belong among the best albums of all times, but it hardly does anything wrong either. And for that, I give it full points. Favorites: Sit Down Stand Up, Where I End You Begin, There There

I was underwhelmed until There, There. I like Radiohead in small doses. I appreciate it but don’t enjoy it for extended periods. Then I listened through headphones and real liked it 2 + 2

Pleasantly Surprised! Normally anything beyond pablo, bends or OK Computer is a little to avant grade Radiohead for me. Really enjoyed this listen and the album will be revisited.

MORE RADIOHEAD: I have never come across this album before in my hours upon hours of Radiohead listening and I quite enjoyed it. I loved the passion from Thom Yorke's voice and you can definitely see the lasting tones of OK Computer (love it). It doesn't quite have the immediate hit some of their other tracks do but the is after many many listens. Oh and my Dad said it was good. Definitely finding it's way to my usual rotation.
Although it might be the weakest of the legendary run from OK Computer thru In Rainbows, this album still has a lot to offer. There's a near perfect blend of electronic and acoustic elements here that remains unmatched by any other band that's attempted it. But that also acts as a detriment to it in some ways, causing a lot of tracks to feel like leftover B sides from Amnesiac (which was already leftover sessions from Kid A). I think if the band would've put a bit more time into the song structures, a lot of what's good on this album could've been GREAT.
My heart tells me every post-Pablo Honey Radiohead record is a 5; my brain understands the unfair precedent set by Radiohead’s revolutionary 5s.

I mean, it's Hail to the Thief! One of Radiohead's best albums! This is where I first really listened to Radiohead, and the album holds up.
Some songs were great, others were just meh. Evens out to a solid three.
this one is sorta hard to review, it’s not as good from a radiohead perspective, but is an amazing album nonetheless. pacing is a bit confusing at times, but this is really such a cool sounding album.

A sober tone for sure. But it does an amazing job of capturing a feeling that was prevalent for many at the time of its release. A few songs make me want to punch someone in the face. In a good way.

Often overlooked in their discography, Hail To the Thief is Radiohead at their most political serving a perfect blend of the electronic destruction-of-self from Kid A and the guitar-driven rock of The Bends. Is it probably a track or two too long? Perhaps. But it also has '2 + 2 = 5', 'Myxomatosis', 'A Wolf at the Door', and possibly their greatest song ever put on record, 'There There'.
It has come to my attention that Radiohead seem to have 6 albums on this list. That seems like way too few. Hail To the Thief is the return to a more organic and rock-y sound after their full on electronic studio albums. And what a return it is! Bring me more Radiohead soon, please.
