Reviews (page 11 of 13)
This is a difficult one for me to rate. I really do like the band, and maybe even more than that, I appreciate how innovative and groundbreaking they are. But, I don't know what any of these songs are about. I enjoy this album, more than the two preceding it, but OK Computer stands as the high water mark for me with this band. There is almost something deliberately obtuse about some of this music, which I also appreciate. I'm vacillating between a 3 and 4 on this (it's a 3.5 damnit), but saving a 4 for the Radiohead albums I'm more likely to better understand. So many great moments on this though — I love how Yorke uses his voice as another instrument in the arrangements.
La canción que abre, que fue sencillo y que creo que es la mejor del disco pone la barra bastante alta para el resto y al no ser fan de la banda, creo que nunca vuelven a llegar. No es mala música pero me despiertan nada.
Going into this, I know “2+2=5” and “Punch Up at a Wedding.” I like ambient and electronic music, though I never really got into Radiohead, who seem to famously fuse those sensibilities with rock. I read that 1) this album was recorded primarily with live takes to kind of dispel the machiney sound with all the electronics and 2) the themes are largely dealing with BBC coverage of the War on Terror, words infused with more emotion than they were reported with (according to Thom Yorke). I was born around this time, so I can only wonder if this album captures the atmosphere of the moment. So far, I think “Backdrifts” is a really standout track — I like the feel and the lyrics. The vibe dramatically shifts from that song to “Go to Sleep,” which is an acoustic guitar forward song. I really like “Where I End and You Begin.” There’s a dark sense of foreboding throughout this album — an attempt to unravel parts of reality and a fear of what’s beneath. Thought “the Gloaming” was cool — many of these songs would sound great in movies. I understand that the overall effect of this album may have been meant to come across as a spontaneous and experimental unleashing of bad phrases and stuff on tv and in the press and in reality. “There, There” really felt like one of the only full-fledged songs with a clear arrangement, not necessarily making it the best (or only) song on the whole record, but definitely making it stand out. Yorke himself thought this track was Radiohead at their best. Not surprised to see this was the first single from this album — it definitely feels like a thesis statement. “Punch Up at a Wedding” is a good one, too. I’m determining that I like the instrumentation on most of the songs, but kind of wish Thom Yorke would be quiet. It would probably be cool to see Radiohead perform this live, but I can’t shake the feeling that I don’t think I need to ever listen to this album again.
Sometimes criticized for not being as much of a reinvention as their previous few albums, this is a bit of a return to a more standard style (more guitar, keyboards, more usual song structures, recorded quickly and in a more live format), although this could hardly be accused of being a ordinary or pedestrian album. I find it a bit of a relief to return to something more approaching a band-like format rather than the deliberate experimentation of the previous few albums. it is hardly OK Computer, though. I found this pleasantly listenable, in not particularly memorable or enervating. It is nice to hear the occasional guitar that sounds like, you know, a _guitar_.
Good chill rock, can be very slow and indulgent at times. Lots of ambience, if you're in to that sort of thing with rock music. It's personally too much for me.
Not such a fanboy of this album... Maybe my least favourite
Again, this would be like 3rd or 4th on my radiohead top albums list. Which makes me wonder where this list is coming from. Either they don't have ok computer and Pablo honey, which would be insane. Or they have at least 3 radiohead albums on the list, which makes me feel like the spots on the list are being inefficiently used. However, this was a decent album
kinda slow
yk i like radiohead, but this album just wasnt my cup of tea. a bit tedious.
Radiohead makes me sleepy
This was my first Radiohead album. I saw some release poster or something and thought “this is a band I hear about all the time lemme check them out”. I was underwhelmed and confused. Almost 20 years later and I’m happy to report that I’m still pretty underwhelmed and confused. This is almost good enough at times to rate 4 stars but then Thom Yorke opens up his whiney trap and I’m back down to 2. It averages out to 3 I guess.
Slow and plodding.
This is some fine stuff, but I'm still dealing with my deep, deep feelings of disappointment at this and the two previous albums in the wake of Ok Computer, which I loved. I wanted more of that, and just didn't get it. I wanted fan service! There's good stuff on all the albums, but none of it got anywhere close to OK Computer for me. Not fair to compare an album to an expectation, but that's where it is. Some bright spots on this one, though - 2+2=5, Sail to The Moon, Go To Sleep, The Gloaming
Rock alternativo. Se me ha hecho un poco pesado. Ni fu ni fa.
A very Radiohead album
did not like this one. starting tracks were good, quickly went downhill imo and i was just not interested by the second half. many tracks felt like they went nowhere musically and i got bored of the sound of the album fast. maybe im just a radiohead hater tho bc i can understand why ppl like them, this album just wasnt for me at all enjoyment: 32/100 fav: backdrifts least favs: the gloaming, i will
I’ve never really been much of a Radiohead fan but this album was melodically depressing for me.
Through this journey I’ve grown a greater appreciation for Radiohead, but as the 4th album of theirs I’ve received in this list (In Rainbows, Amnesiac, The Bends) I had a harder time getting into this one, even with several listens through/deep dive on lyrics, etc.
Compared to all their albums before hail to the thief this is average. Not a standout track amongst them. Political tracks take away from the tunes and melodies in previous albums
This is entry #4 on the list from Radiohead. Again, they must be a favorite of the list maker. The album cover is colorful. The music seemed boring and plodding. Nothing memorable here.
Thom Yorke whining about american politcs over bland beats
Almost unlistenable I like a lot of Radio Head but this was painful, what I was able to get through. It felt more interesting than good. I couldn't even finish it.
Grumpy goths
I keep trying to follow where they are taking me, but I just can’t with this one.
Kinda creepy weird. Bailey's "is he going to kill me" album
I am not a Radiohead fan. Sorry.
Pretty tedious.
Never got much into Radiohead not sure why..but now I do..not horrible but
Meh. Never been a Radiohead fan. Fully aware it's not for me.
Просите, друзья, но я ненавижу радиохэд 🪦
Assuming the "1001 Albums..." Wikipedia page is correct, I've now listened to every Radiohead album in the generator, and I can now take a sigh of relief. As usual, the album was more of a vibe than an album. It had a few enjoyable moments, but it was mostly boring, forgettable, and just nonsensical noises. Favorite Track: "2+2=5". Favorite Radiohead album in the generator: "The Bends".
2+2=5 - 2/5 Sit down. Stand up - 2/5 Sail to the moon - 3/5 Backdrifts - 3/5 Go to sleep - 3/5 Where I end and you begin - 4/5 We suck young blood - 1/5 The gloaming - 2/5 There, there - 4/5 I will - 2/5 A punch up at a wedding - 2/5 Myxomatosis - 1/5 Scatterbrain - 2/5 A wolf at the door - 1/5
For me, Radiohead are either incredible or incredibly dull and very difficult to listen to. Sadly, this album falls into the latter. A 2 seems a little harsh but I simply wouldn't relisten.
tylsin radiohead
Se me ha hecho cuesta arriba
again, Radiohead. just like some women. Loud and Whiney. their albums seem to last for an eternity.
I never understood the love affair with Radiohead. It's borderline unlistenable. There are some glimpses of genius, but it's mostly just boring head music. I guess if I did drugs I would feel differently.
Very methodical. The lyrics seemed to be drone on.
Still not getting Radiohead.
Solid background music where every song sounds almost identical to each other and so allows you to focus on whatever else you want to focus on rather than listening to Radiohead.
Half of this was okay. The other half sounded like wailing and smacking spoons in a messy kitchen. I still don’t get Radiohead
It was good but wasn’t really in the mood for Radiohead
this is ahh but I liked 2 songs so
This is the album that radiohead imploded in on itself.
Radiohead are a band I just do not 'get' at all. I try to give every album a fair chance but this was so incredibly dull. The only word I can find to describe this is 'meh'.
They are so popular I just don’t get it. It just seems a little weird and boring.
Electro-trance-rock (?) album. 2.5
Radioheadin soundit ja tuttu laulaja. Tällaista samaa se on aina
no must listen to songs, just ok.
Never listened to Radiohead properly, but thought that it was generally dull music for dull people. Still, I was ready to have my mind changed today. There were flashes of interesting music and ideas, but no single song grabbed me particularly. So this doesn't get a passing grade today, but I want to keep my mind open for the next album of theirs on the list.
I dunno man. I get why people like it but its not me.
when i first saw that i had to listen a radiohead album i was like oh yeah radiohead, it has to be great. Now that i listened it i feel kinda disappointed. It doesn’t mean is a terrible album, it has some songs that are ok, but only a few.
what a tedious load of wank
This album is entirely about the legend Len Houmous 14/14 A Wolf At The Door
I just don’t care
There's a lot of stealing in this one for sure Second half gets slightly better but this still very pretentious
It's just much less interesting than it pretends to be.
Buen album, aunque no son mis vibes. Es la ansiedad hecha musica. Es incómoda y te genera vibes de main character whose life is falling apart. No es depre (que era como conocía a Radiohead), es paranoica.
Oh man, Radiohead are SUCH hard work, and they have SIX albums on here 🤦🏻♂️
Expectation: -> Can't be worse than Kid A, right? After listening: -> Indeed, clearly a step up from Kid A. Listenable. Not all that enjoyable. No tracks really stood out or that I plan to return to. There are some great Radiohead songs out there. Just not here. Track ranking: (skipped)
I thought I hated Radiohead for the longest time because Hail To the Thief was my first exposure. No, it turns out this is just a bad album from a good band, rightfully removed from the 1001 albums in later editions.
Album 155. Hail To the Thief (https://open.spotify.com/album/5mzoI3VH0ZWk1pLFR6RoYy?si=pCKvDa-tRuWKKe_uFOm6-A) — Radiohead (2003) Radiohead tried to ruin my day today lol. There are six albums on the list (oh shit) and this is already the second I've gotten. Definitely not outstanding, okay for one-time listen. 2/5 No liked songs
Lauter rumgeheule
I can never get past the whiny voice with Radiohead
Overall, I just don’t like it. I have not listened to a good Radiohead album yet.
Me copa radiohead, pero este disco se me hizo un poco chato y largo.
Not their best effort. 2 or 3 worthy songs surrounded by a lot of meh effort. Seemed like a band just trying to put something out to pay the bills while waiting for past inspiration to strike them. Usually love Radiohead but I can see now why this album slipped by me when it was released. Nothing truly noteworthy.
Never really liked Radiohead. This kind of solidified that lol
Hard to get into honestly. Found myself distracted every song and not enjoying much of it.
None of the Radiohead albums on this list have changed my view that this band is highly over-rated and most of their songs are barely listenable. I would give it one star, but I will reserve that rating for the even worse albums that made it onto this list
A little whiney, even for Radiohead
Do not understand the hype for this band, not a fan.
++: Sit Down. Stand Up. (Snakes & Ladders.), Backdrifts. (Honeymoon Is Over.), Where I End and You Begin. (The Sky Is Falling In.), We Suck Young Blood. (Your Time Is Up.), Myxomatosis. Day806 - five albums into radiohead and i still don’t get it. i can be as melancholy as the next genx-er but come on
This is the first time I’ve attempted a Radiohead album, and I’m not sure I can stand Thom Yorke’s whole thing.
Crazy how this band can make two of my all time favorites (OK Computer and In Rainbows) and then make other albums that I can’t even get through. If There There wasn’t on this, it’d be 1 star for me.
Just wayyy too much Radiohead on this Radiohead record. It gets very tiresome after a while.
Not for me.
I am not familiar with Radiohead but have heard the name for a long time. I had hoped to like them. It was like each song started great, all pretty unique, but then they turned sideways either with the vocalist or the instrumentation. Two stars.
Okay for the background, would have hoped to get a little more energy out of them overall.
Thought I would have a revelation on a relisten but it's still their worst non-debut album. Some good tracks but this is the only Radiobead album where I find myself a little bit bored. Only a couple of tracks stand out and they wouldn't on a better album. Decent, but nothing that special.
Of all the depressing, tuneless, bleeps-and-bloops Radiohead albums on this list, this might be the bleepiest if not the bloopiest.
Two days in a row of decent music ruined by the vocals. Yesterday's Bjork is today's Yorke. Admittedly I am not a Radiohead fan, mostly because I do not care for Thom's vocals. Especially when he's at his whiniest. When I say I don't care for them, We Suck Young Blood is exatcly what I don't like. They can't all be Just or OK Computer.
I like Radiohead. I do not like this Radiohead. This album is almost a meme of Radiohead. If that's Yorke's intent, well he's a genius.
I normally like Radiohead, but this is pretty meh.
Dette overbeviser meg ikke om at Radiohead er et bra band. 📻📻
Heilt OK, eit par gode, men trudde eg kom til å like det betre. 2.5.
Wow I really didn't like this one compared to other Radiohead albums on here. So whiny
No me gusto. Canciones muy parecidas entre si, la voz siempre se mantiene en el mismo tono sin tener variaciones y las melodías tambien similares.
I actually can't listen to radiohead the songs all kinda sound the same. My dog looked at me, concerned when "The Gloaming" started playing. 2+2=5 was the only one that i enjoyed
Enjoyed in rainbows better
didn't have one song stand out to me just kind of dramatic and moany
Kinda boring and sad. Feels like typical [[Radiohead]] sadness.
Ehhh
Sorry, Julia… this album is up there with Robert Wyatt for me. Whiny. I’m sure there’s some deep meaning behind the lyrics, but I can’t get behind how the music sounds.
The arrangements and sound was ok. I could not take the vocals.
I’m usually a sucker for a whiney little guy but this felt sooo long and nothing stood out….sorry Thom :,(
Wow that felt like the longest album I’ve ever listened to
Why do all the songs sound like they're being played backwards? Everything is distorted and I can't tell what Thom Yorke is saying. If someone asked me what my favourite Radiohead lyric was, I'd have to say "Aaaaahhhhhhhgeeeeeebyeeeeeeaaaayyyy"
A bit dull
It was interesting, but nothing that I particularly enjoyed. Nothing stuck out to me and I didn't think anything was great.
Whining into a tin can while installing enough effects plugins to give your computer a migraine
motorhead olsaydı iyiydi
2 This reminds me of a looking at a Nick Cave sculpture. Kind of crazy to see, but I wouldn’t want it in my house.
Hmm did not enjoy this album except for A Wolf At the Door
Bleh. A slog. Saved one song mainly to make listening to the album worth it.
No matter how hard this list makes me try, I'm just not a big Radiohead fan. It's my own problem, I know. But these guys just don't do it for me.
🫤
not consistent 6/10
Must have lost touch with Radiohead because this had me mad bored
The music writing is pretty good but I cant just stand that voice... It makes it impossible to enjoy.
not my type of music.
I know, I know. All hail to the Radiohead. I just didn't feel it.
Overall Rating - 2.46/5 (4.93/10). Forgettable. Not my kind of music.
Just ok
Cionisticki smarac T*m J*rk
Both whiny and yelly at the same time. Would rate as 3 on the second listen
I do not care for radiohead
Meh
I may change my review later, but will need to really re-listen to this album.
Dreary, even for Radiohead.
I had this on CD when it was first released. Tried very hard to like it, but it never grabbed me in the same way as Radiohead's earlier albums. Over the years I've listened again a few times, wondering what I've been missing. It's still never clicked with me and, honestly, I can't stand the thought of playing it again today. It's technically very interesting but I can't find any emotional appeal. Thom's singing and lyrics are unrelentingly gloomy, morbid and (dare I say) self-indulgent. Sorry!
No lo entendí :P
I can see the appeal of this album (and Radiohead) -- the soundscape is vibrant and emotional. I just can't get into the tracks. There aren't really any songs I enjoyed, even if the album as a whole wasn't bad.
Don’t like his voice, otherwise could be a chill music.
Smooth but not my fav
One of the most forgettable albums. The terrible albums will hold a place in brain but this just eh album won’t.
still mad at you york
we really could have picked a different radiohead album, this was whatever. they had to have been bullshitting on some of these. saved: 2+2=5, there there.
Strike two, Radiohead.
Ok. We get it. There were a lot of raindrops. Smh. The second album from Radiohead to make this list and I’m still not that impressed; although it was definitely better than Ok Computer. This feels like a rough draft of an unfinished product to me. There seems to be an under lying thought for these songs to work together but a lot still needs to hit the editing room floor, if you are picking up what I’m putting down. As the album went on, I felt like the tracks got better musically, but I was still wanting more from the band. Maybe the monotone vocals just never got me excited enough to buy in.
Even Radiohead hates this Radiohead album. Why should we disagree?
2.5 - Nothing memorable but not bad.
I got about halfway through it and gave up. I'm not much of a Radiohead fan.
Just really not a Radiohead fan.. This album especially is very wainy and drags on. There are few good songs, I actually do really enjoy the intro track, probably one of my favorite Radiohead songs, but there isnt much after that IMO.
This radiohead album sounds a lot like a radiohead album. Kind of boring/repetitive. Classic radiohead! 5/10
It’s an intellectual experience. Interesting and neurotic. When the album was revealed I was disappointed because I wasn’t up for a tedious listen. Some people claim that Radiohead is effortlessly compelling to them. I think they’re lying. They can be rewarding but it’s work.
My god they’re boring
2.5
While Radiohead has some great stuff and I appreciate the experimental nature of the album, the music did not click for me. The lead vocals are just too whiny and end up making the album feel immature.
Definitely some interesting things going on on this album, but the vocals are just so whiny. Not bad listening, but I also am not going to be the one to turn on Radiohead.
*2003. *Tried listening to this a couple of times, and it didn't really stick with me. *Some decent stuff, but mostly it's way too whiny for me. RATING - 6/10
Radiohead jusr never does it for me
It's a mediocre Radiohead album.
Very frustrating listen, as the other Radiohead albums have been. We Suck Young Blood sounded cool at first, but then the whining just kept going and killed it. Myxomatosis and Go To Sleep stood out. They were good. 2/5
'You have not been paying attention.' Contrary to his detractors, Yorke is not a whiner, a moper, or even a lamenter: he's a nuanced and perpetual droner, a strangely aloof and not very emotional castaway. Unfortunately, he's also a very bad poet, pretentious and threadbare at the same time. When the band decides the write a song, as they do w/ 'Go To Sleep,' they are tolerable and moderately successful. When they do not, which is the case w/ much of Hail To The Thief, they're pretty unbearable. It's the worst Radiohead I've heard (I haven't listened to The King of Limbs) b/c it's not even remotely fun: 'Why so green / And lonely, and lonely / And lonely.' Ya know, I can dig the darkness, just not the weary or densely drab. Faugh!
Missed the Radiohead craze when it was new. Wanted to love this but it just didn't click.
Some really good songs like “Punch Up at a Wedding” and “Where I End and You Begin,” but overall half of the album is worth a skip.
Wasn't for me.
Some other reviewer noted, there is absolutely great Radiohead and then there is unlistenable falsetto draining on Radiohead
For Radiohead, the more recent, the more annoying is his voice !
this album is mind numbing. Ok computer's cousin no one talks to because it sucks. Not every radiohead album needs to be on this list and this one shouldn't be called great please let it end. 2/5 6.79/10
Not as good as the first
None of the songs are bad and most are well above average. But, prescient politics aside, it's just nothing special and feels like Radiohead going back and seeing what worked before (albeit in a mix-and-match manner), which, for better or worse, is an impulse that they generally resist. Basically taking Kid A(mnesiac) style lyrics and combining them with more OK Computer style instrumentals. The album is entirely too long and could have used some editing. I don't think there's too terribly much individual identity on these tracks. It's one of those things where I know every single one of them but can't match the titles to the songs. Just pick 3 to cut and it's a better album. Any 3. According to Wikipedia, "In 2008, Yorke posted an alternative track listing on Radiohead's website, omitting "Backdrifts", "We Suck Young Blood", "I Will" and "A Punchup at a Wedding,"" which would have knocked this down to a lovely 39:17. So, I removed those tracks and re-ordered the album per Thom's suggested alternative. It was an overall better experience. I just can't really tell you a situation outside a random album of the day generator where I feel inclined to sit down with this and listen front to back. Also the last Radiohead concert I went to had a very HTTT heavy setlist and I found it boring.
Music needs to be give and take. There wasn’t a lot of give in this.
Never really warmed to this group.
Such a Radiohead
Kommer Pablo Honey snart??
Another indistinguishable Radiohead album, notable only for being way too long
Well done but not really my thing
Too much whining.
Just not a fan
Slightly too long
I obviously don’t get Radiohead. Didn’t like this at all.
I guess I don’t like Radiohead. This is the third album and they’ve all been just meh. Nothing memorable about any of them.
Got bored half way thru and didn’t finish.
Not familiar with this album. A few moments but probably too long.
Whiny white boys with guitars. Poor. Not a fan.
Just felt whiney as hell
Radiohead has always been hit or miss for me and this album is more miss than hit. A few songs I like but it is mostly a slog. Favorites: 2+2=5, Go to Sleep Would I listen to it again: No
Well this is the first radiohead record I've heard that I don't know a single song off of, so that's funny. It has its moments, but like any other radiohead record, it becomes nauseatingly british and I end up disliking it.
I consider it a minor tragedy that a band that can make an album so accomplished, so poignant as the Bends can think that just saying the word "raindrops" (in Sit Down/Stand up) repetitively is interesting. The concept of rain as refreshing, cleansing, and melancholic has been completely unused here. Rainy Days and Mondays, Here comes the Rain Again, hell, even Raindrops Keep Falling on my Head have better lyrics than some of the so called songs here. And while some of the melodies towards the end of the album are acceptable I am left listless and bored. All I can do is hope for a thunderstorm to invigorate me.
I know I'm in the minority, but I cannot stand Radiohead. Thom Yorke's voice grates on my nerves like fingernails on a chalkboard.
H: bro this shit sucks. I wish I would’ve DMFd. 0/10 H fav song: N/A Z: this album feels like a link between past and present. Familiar yet new and forward thinking. No major individual standouts but as a whole it flows well. Thom’s voice seemed to improve as the project went on— I wasn’t a fan of the start. 6.5/10 Z fav song: There, There
I don’t like defining a band by its most prominent hit… but with this backlog?
Not my favourite of theirs
this is more of the radiohead that I'm used to. Which is not good Best Song: A Wolf at the Door Rating: 4/10 Stars: 2/5
2+2=5 is such a classic Radiohead track, and a great opener. It would be a good fit for OK Computer. After that it goes downhill fast. At 14 songs, it outstays it's welcome with too much plodding and wailing. The last 6 songs, from There, There to A Wolf at the Door offer some relief, but overall it is an album I have never been able to enjoy, and listening to it today only confirms my opinion. Luckily they followed this album up with the brilliant In Rainbows.
Not my favourite Radiohead, but it sounds very Radiohead.
I have nothing against this album or radiohead, but just couldn’t get into it
I guess I never listened to radio head… I didn’t like this.
I really don’t see what’s so special about this album that it had to be included on the generator. Radiohead has some decent songs but none are present here. It’s dissonant but forgettable…
Maybe my least favourite post-Pablo Honey album (depending on the day; it’s in competition with Limbs and AMSP). Now it’s even harder to stomach. As recently as the fall of 2024, 2+2=5 was in my head as the soundtrack for American collapse. And then Yorke’s real personality - always present and hinted at in the music, both in Radiohead and solo - became unavoidably public. It’s a tough pill to swallow, seeing someone you trusted, celebrated, defended, etc turn out to be just another asshole. Bands, artists, etc do take on a particular responsibility when their artwork concerns social strife, actual political issues - you are playing with a kind of power and hold over people. The run from OKC to HTTT saw Radiohead specifically courting and aligning themselves with leftist political concerns and branding, introducing ideas from Naomi Klein, Noam Chomsky, culminating in an album title critical of the western allies - primarily the USA and UK - Iraq invasion. On the tour they leaned into this, playing No Surprises with its “bring down the government, they don’t speak for us” lyrics particular resonant amongst left-leaning Americans and others. There was no mystery about the object of their ire and political alignment: Bush and Blair. The album itself? Not that great unfortunately. Was the Bush and Blair criticism just a handy sales line to hang around a jumbled mess of More Radiohead? I could never tell at the time and today it just plays like a failure. It felt like a series of attempts at moving on from the dissonant, alienating music of Kid A and Amnesiac (which reflected thematic content, that’s not a knock) and incorporating what they had achieved earlier as a rock band and their subsequent “experimental” electronic music group revelations. But, there was no there, there. Whatever spark Yorke and Greenwood had was lost or whatever material was left around from 1997-2000 just could not live up to the expectations of fans who had seen these one hit wonders blossom into The Best Band in the World from the Bends through Amnesiac. Instead it’s an angry, angsty set of songs, somehow more dour and dark than Pyramid Song, but just not as interesting. This is the sound of a very talented band stuck in a rut. Fortunately, they moved on, recalibrating for their follow-up, taking their time to get it right and rediscovering the melodic spark. Alas, that same righteous contempt they once had for power is nowhere to be found when it concerns Israel’s war against the Palestinians. Then, it’s a mealy-mouthed two sides story, having to defend JG and his wife either directly or via obfuscation. There is no room for Free Palestine on their stage, a concept that would’ve been a given during their late 90s and early 00s heyday. What do we do when artists fail us as people? I still don’t know. I deeply love many Radiohead songs still and my own singing voice is in part based on Yorke’s range as a model, let alone my early guitar-playing aspiring to be as pristine and violent as Greenwood/O’Brien/Yorke.
Same boring Radiohead with one or two decent songs.
Trash
Love Radiohead but the vibe of this album is slightly dreary for me, which is not bad in itself but a dreary vibe needs a few sing along/belters to help the audience (me) get into the vibe. 3?
Bit slow for my preference, some different sounds
The only good thing about this album is it confirmed my surprise at liking the earlier Radiohead album. This sucks. It’s background noise with some moaning on top.
4/10
Only 1 song added. Not the biggest fan of Radiohead's style, despite recognizing that a lot of people do enjoy it.
It's not bad, but it's just kinda forgettable and Meh but that is a very hot take from me. I just don't click with Radiohead as a whole
I tried to listen to this multiple times, it isn't bad, but nothing in it really draws me in or makes me want to listen to it again.
I've never been a huge radio head fan and this album doesn't even have any of their top hits on it. Some songs were OK but I didn't end up finishing this one.
It's for some reason not what I thought it would be, and exactly what I expected. I don't think I've ever actively listened to Radiohead before, and based on this, it will likely stay this way. I can't imagine a situation where I'd want to listen to this band: if I'm ever in the mood, Muse seems to do it better.
Just not my thing. Experimential , yes maybe, but not a pleasurable listening experience.
I didn’t vibe with this album that much
Not great
2 plus 2 is not 5, and this album is not good. I thought I might like this because I don’t mind shoegaze or dreampop, but this is just a gaping void of emptiness. If I have to listen to an album 5000 times to “get it” then I’m not going to bother, and this random lot of soullessness seems to be exactly that sort of challenge. I’m all for an album that grows on you, but this is the sort of album that wants to make you feel stupid. I listen to music that speaks to me on an equal level, not this sort of snotty Art School pretentiousness. Parts of some songs are good, and some tracks I almost liked entirely, but overall this is just Radiohead being pseudo-highbrow music intellectuals. And quite honestly, I can’t be bothered with it.
Still don't really like Radiohead, and I've never met anybody who's ever wanted to sing them at the top of their lungs. When it comes to Hail To the Thief, I think I like it better than more famous albums like Kid A. That said, there's nothing worth mentioning in this release. I don't get their appeal.
Radiohead is overrated
Honestly really disappointed with this album compared to others by Radiohead
“Oh goodie, another Radiohead album!” - Said no one ever.
some radiohead songs touched my soul at the first two months of my recovery from alcohol and i don’t really listen to him like i used to now. his whiney voice in this album makes it hard to really listen to any of the songs. none of the songs besides one, “there, there” spoke to me with a few of the lyrics but didn’t feel any connection to the rest. I did add that one song to a playlist i use to help me sleep so there’s that benefit i guess
I don't know why, but Radiohead (and this album) just reminds me of whiney men...
Cringe. Thom yorke does not do it for me. It’s mostly an hour of him whining? I don’t get it?
Radiohead just rarely speaks to me or resonates with me.
I didn't enjoy this
Meh
Man, I just cannot get into Radiohead. I don't see it, and by "it" I mean whatever it is that causes people to like them. The band gives me "better than you" vibes and they think you're welcome for it. I'd only heard a few of their songs before this recommendation, and listening to the album did nothing to change my opinion. The music is boring. The vocals are whiny and annoying. The lyrics are pretentious. There's nothing there that gets my attention and makes me want to listen. Yet, the album is nearly an hour long. It felt like I was listening to an extended lullaby trying to put me to sleep, but that didn't because it was somehow too bland to be comforting noise. It also seemed it was trying to be somewhat disconcerting, which kind of took away from the effect to and instead make it cringey. Positively, I didn't hate Go to Sleep and Myxomatosis and actually kind of liked There, There, so that's something. I guess there had to be at least a couple tracks I could like when there were 14 there to pick from. But the few that were good did very little to elevate the rest of the album for me. I've probably graded this a little harshly since I had a negative expectation going into it. That said, it easily met that negative expectation, and I was still disappointed. I found it dull with only a few tracks doing anything that caught my interest or were memorable. Those tracks brought it up from the bottom. As a whole, though, I can't rate it very highly. A 2 feels a bit too high, but a 1 would feel too low. Overall: 2/5
Not fan
The vocals suck
Sounds like most other Radiohead stuff but more boring. I don't think this should be on the list.
zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz
Not a great advert for Radiohead.
If you’re looking to suck the life out of a party then here it is, a total buzzkill of an album. Upvoted to a 2 based on production skills…
Jut not feeling connected to this album. Can't say the music is good or the lyrics are special. Trying to connectbut not happening Rating 2
It’s like the noiserock version of indie/edm. I’m not really into it, I’ve like other Radiohead stuff but this one I find just meh.
I think I may hate Radiohead.
Artsy fartsy and annoying. I vibed with a couple. It's the sort of music you experience once and then never return to.
Sorry but Radiohead is so boring, I never believe it when people say Radiohead is their favourite band, have they heard any other music before? Fav song: Sot Down. Stand Up
4/10 - I do not think I am the biggest radiohead fan. He is too whiny
1.5 stars This was the first Radiohead album I listened to and it turned me off from the band for years. I don’t know why this made it on the list even temporarily. It’s like an album full of filler tracks. Nothing memorable.
I’ve been way too kind to the billion other radiohead albums so: snore city
I love feeling angsty on a Monday work morning... Yeah not quite the music I needed yesterday. Not really my taste in general. I somewhat enjoyed the sound of a few of these songs but overall the mood and tone just isn't what I gravitate towards. I did enjoy the ending section of 'Where I End You Begin', that's about it.
Harmillisesti ei yhtään kappaletta jäänyt omille listoille tai mieleen. Höh.
I remember when this album was coming out I kept hearing how excited everyone was. Then it came out and nobody said anything about it. Guess we know why.
What felt daring and important in its time comes off pretentious and depressing quite frankly. I've never liked Radiohead from their Beep-and-Boop era on, so I wasn't bound to like this. Come to think of it, I'm pretty sure I bought this CD when it came out, but never even cracked it open. I'm such a completist that way. I guarantee there isn't a soul alive who has a hankering to listen to 'Hail to the Thief' on a Saturday afternoon. Would be nice to see Thom Yorke and crew come out with a record lambasting their own authoritarian government at the present moment, but identity politics only works one direction, I guess.
I know people love Radiohead, but they've always been a bit depressing for me. That doesn't mean they don't have some satisfying grooves, and A Punch up at Wedding is definitely one of those, and Go to Sleep. Most of the rest is classic Radiohead--kind of like nerve-wracked meth music that sounds perfect at 3am after you split up with your boyfriend while a teenager. 2/5
This is not a good or interesting record by Radiohead. Admittedly I am not their biggest fan but I can appreciate their other works. This is just boring and I guess angst filled while not really having or at least making a point or statement. I read the Wikipedia and see what it was supposed to be about but I don't hear that. Instead it just seems whiny.
Some songs were passable, even good, but most of the album was annoying, I cannot really give 3 stars to an album that took me 2 days to go through.
Didn't finish it. I mean I like some Radiohead but ... meh
Barely tolerated it. This album started to give me a headache and I like Radiohead Not great Radiohead
Thom Yorke is a boner and this is not one of the better Radiohead albums. At least I know OK Computer is on here
I feel like I’d be really into Radiohead if it was instrumental, but thom York’s vocals really harsh my vibe
Radiohead really good at making you feel headachy and sleepy. Listening to at work was awful but the last song was really good
Am I ever going to enjoy Radiohead? It's not looking good bruv. I can't stand Thoms whiny vocals.
Not my fav Radiohead album. Only really liked A Wolf At the Door
Not their best
Not for me
2 out of 5. Like their other albums this has some good stuff but still not for me.
Do I like Radiohead? I honestly don't know. The few hits I've heard are good, but nothing on this album is doing anything for me. There are a few tracks that are above average (not great) and a few that are annoying (but not to the point of skipping them). The whiny vocals got to me after a couple of tracks too. It's a 2.5, but I'm rounding down because as an album it wears out it's welcome less than halfway in.
I dont like Radiohead much. It doesnt hook me. Maybe 2 of their popular songs.
Another Radiohead album but why?? Really need six albuns on the list, really? In the fact we are more nearby to dead after heard this mourmoring depressing songs.
Radiohead suck 😬
Yeah, I just don't get it. Nothing about it is bad but equally nothing about is memorable. Their first 3 albums were great but then they took an artistic turn that wasn't for me. This band makes me feel dumb because I really just dont like it
I liked some of the beats but the voice and lyrics were so slow and I couldn't really see the deeper meaning.
It was just ok. Something I wouldn’t skip if someone put on but not something I’d look forward to listening to
i just don’t like radiohead. it’s so depressing
I have fondness for 90s Radiohead, but this is where they sort of lost me.
Not my bag, I think radiohead is a bit overrated
not rlly my vibe a bit too technical for me
Som någon som säger att han vill ta livet av sig men aldrig kommer göra det
This album would be vastly improved if Thom Yorke was kicked in the shin and replaced by Cartman. musically, it’s not terrible, but my lord is it boring.
Tenía apuntadas tres canciones en favoritos: "Sit Down. Stand Up", "Where I End and You Begin" y "There There". Vuelto a escuchar me parece un disco en general aburrido incluso si eres seguidor del grupo. No es necesario escucharlo.
Better than the last album I heard on here by them, but not a fan of this artist. Their lyrics are disturbing. I’m thinking the person who wrote them has some psychological issues.
i did not like Radiohead for a while i don't hate them but i just cant get into their music idk why same for this
I just don't think Radiohead is for me. I get excited for 2+2=5 then bummed when I hear some of the others. It just drags on and I'm really just not a fan of Thoms voice.
I've seen Radiohead several times live. The bends is amazing, ok computer is out of this world, I love Pablo Honey, I enjoy Kid A, but I can't for the life of me love this album. I'm going to listen to in rainbows and make myself feel better.
I like some of their songs…..but I do not rate them on the astral level as so many others do.
This isn't the strongest radiohead album. I thought it started interestingly enough, but, then rapidly became something boring and repetitive.
It's ok... couple of good songs, but you really have to be in the right mood for this album.
Very moody, not my taste
Como todo se descompone, se pudre, quizá le llegó a esta banda, o ¿Será que están transformándose musicalmente en algo mejor?, no lo creo, pero por un salto de fe les daré un 2
I’m not sure how to describe this album as anything other than consisting of nothing but the generic Radiohead music that I don’t really care for. It’s as good as any other Radiohead record, but nothing on this particular record comes anywhere close to how good their best music is. I’m not sure if I’ve just listened to too much Radiohead because of this list, or if this is just a weak showing by the band, but I don’t really have any desire to hear a single song from this album ever again. 2*
Alright I think we're getting a little carried away with the Radiohead here. 'OK Computer' and 'In Rainbows' is really all this list needs. 'Kid A' OR 'The Bends' if you REALLY want. But not both. Anyway, this album isn't unenjoyable, but I don't think it's especially remarkable either, and having just listened to 'OK Computer' like a week ago, it's at the forefront of my mind that 'Hail To the Thief' doesn't seem to break any new ground for Radiohead. Not every artist needs to sound different with every album they release, but I think that kind of creative evolution is where Radiohead excels and what makes them interesting. I don't find this album excellent or interesting because it kinda just sounds like their previous four albums rehashed into one. There are too many tracks on this album and not a single one stands out to me. It's perfectly fine as background music but not an album I will ever actively put on myself.
Can we start to have the conversation that outside of the hits and some one-offs....Radiohead is kinda overrated. I don't know...they just don't do it for me. All their songs start to sound the same...monotone and depressing. They have some hits and great songs, but I'm not impressed so far. This album def has moments, but their guitars are kinda boring and their vocals just make me sad....When they DO decide to pick up the pace and be energetic (which they do a few times this album) they are really enjoyable to listen to. Liked Songs: "2+2=5" , "Go To Sleep" , "Where I End and You Begin" , "There, There" , "Myxomatosis" , "A Wolf At the Door"
My daughter really likes Radiohead, although not necessarily this album, me not so much. The instrumentation is fine and the first couple songs were okay… if I had stopped there I might have called this a classic 3 star album. Unfortunately, 4-5 songs in it got a little too much for me, especially the vocals.!I did read 2 of my fellow group members reviews before writing this one so I can say I’m not quite as turned off as they were, but it’s still not doing much for me, I’ll be generous and say this is the low end of 2 stars.
This was very, very Radiohead to me. Not exactly sure what that means, but I wasn't in love with it but I didn't turn it off either.
Standard Radiohead fare from the point where their noodling became longer than any discernable tunes.
I mean average at best. Definitely not for me. Some okay tracks but honestly not an enjoyable listen. 5.1/10
Nicht mein Ding. Zu langwierig und dadurch langweilig. Vielleicht habe ich auch einfach nicht die Zeit gefunden
Good psychadelics would be 2.5
I am one of the biggest Radiohead Glazers you will meet, I literally made my own merch for them but I hate this album. It's boring and lacks soul, feeling more like an imitation of true emotion than anything real. I like three songs from this album: Sail to the moon, Myxomatosis, and A wolf at the door.
Selections like this one make me wonder whether my review should be about the album itself or the choice to include it in the list of 1,001 albums. Back when this album was released, it felt like Radiohead was starting to get high on its own supply, like the band was convinced of its own importance, and hearing it today bears that out. While there are some nice moments, this is a dreary listen. A slog. Nowhere near Radiohead's best work, before or since.
🙂
Рrostration, melancholy, apathy, grief, depression, dejection....
I found this to be a bit of a mess from a group that I usually like. Not so much so this time around.
I listened to this on the plane yesterday as I was flying home. It honestly just didn't do a ton for me. I wasn't as drawn in as 'Ok Computer' and not being a huge fan of Yorke's style... this one just falls a bit to the side. not bad by any means, but this being our third Radiohead album... I need something more to draw me in.
Hail to the thief that stole the time I’ll never get back by listening to this album. (That’s a bit harsh but i did not like it)
I think I like this less than the other Radiohead albums we've had? I don't know. I'm still not a Radiohead fan.
Too much whining to me. Towards the end of the album it got a bit better. Still, nothing special.
Ive said it before- I am not a huge Radiohead fan. Unlike other albums of theirs on this list, this one really didnt have anything that stood out to me. It felt a little one note and there were a lot of dissonant sounds that didnt jive for me. Overall- fine, but not for me
I don’t get Radiohead. I do not like Radiohead. This is the second album of theirs on this album generator (and we still haven’t gotten any Beatles??). No tracks stood out to me.
I just don't get the appeal of Radiohead. The only song that I liked was "A Wolf At the Door" - I think it's because it's the only one that Thom York actually sang in his normal register - or maybe it should be his normal register. I just find his falsetto grating. The music was also for be boring. I don't need to ever listen to this again - 2 stars since I'm feeling generous.
Not one of Radiohead’s better albums in my opinion, it just doesn’t strike me much, but I do really like the songs Go to Sleep, There There and A Wolf at the Door. (2.5 stars)
I quite enjoyed the last Radiohead album on this list, but this one felt quite listless and the nasal high singing really irritated me.
I could tell it was music and listening to it didn't actively make me unhappy. Only song I liked on the album was "There There". 3/10
Hm, this is the epitome of the Radiohead sound. No particular song stood out to me in this wall of lilting fuzzy Radiohead. Not bad, just not something I need. None of the songs had any interest factors which stood out to me, so like 2/5 stars.
Don't really know how I feel about this album. Was expecting a bit more from it. I tried focusing on it but I kept tuning out. Some good songs though.
Yup. Still can’t get into Radiohead after all these years
Definitly not my favorite radiohead album
Quite a long way from their best. Heard it beffr and didn't like it, still dont
290/1001 Se me atragantan, son depresivos.... 🌕🌕🌑🌑🌑
Not necessarily my vibe
Not a big fan
A bit too meandering but has its moments.
confusing and depressing. dergy. the gloaming gave me a headache
First? 2,5/5 Again? 1,5/5
Standouts: There, There
Aside from "There, There" I really didn't care for this album. The other two Radioheads I got during this project were great. I found this mostly unpleasant, all of the beeps and bloops just didn't work for me this time around.
