Reviews (page 10 of 13)

The songs on this album had a haunting sound which I really enjoyed. I liked this one.

parts are good, 2+2=5. parts are bad, We Suck Young Blood. The back half vocally is closer to like shitty ghost imitation warbling. the intrumentation is generally pretty rock solid though.

Not my favourite radiohead, some bits are still good though

I listened a bunch of times on release, but this never quite clicked for me. Some of it I love, but some of it grates in that whiny Thom way.

I did like this more than the last two Radiohead albums. They managed to create a consistent and engaging atmosphere here. Still, as I will continue to point out, this atmosphere is just Creep-lite. If only the band didn't hate that song, they might just be making better music.

It was fine.

The raindrops (x47) One of their weakest albums in my opinion. A great beginning and end, but the middle is a mess. Probably the only Radiohead album that I'd consider bloated. It's an alright stepping stone between Amnesiac and In Rainbows, I guess? Not worthy of being on the list though.

Pretty good.

Radiohead is a band I tend to like. Didn't know this album, though, and it ist in my opinion not one of their hightlights.

I don't understand the Radiohead hype. This is fine, but not great.

Par izvrsnih, par mediocre, par neslusljivih uglavnom zbog elektronike. Tipa 3.5ish

Let me start with this. I don’t like Thom Yorke… saying that this album starts out great. The first 3 or 4 songs, I actually like that. Unfortunately after this the album takes a turn and Thom Yorkes voice becomes annoying. It’s not bad, but I wish the middle part of the album would feature more instrumentals or just less vocals. All in all for me this was the most accessible Radiohead so far

Post-peak Radiohead

This album is definitely middle of the road for me. I didn't love it but I also didn't hate it. Favorite Track on album- Go to Sleep

The first Radiohead album I owned and I wasn’t looking forward to revisiting. Not bad, but not there best work

Really nice but not my favourite Radiohead album, that's a 3!

Just so tedious. Inventive, but a big bore overall. Hey, it's Radiohead.

Not my favourite Radiohead but pretty enjoyable. Myxomatosis is a great tune.

Listens more as a playlist, but there are some fabulous tracks to choose from, Where I End and You Begin and There, There, to the intensely lush and dissonant harmony of Scatterbrain and the soundscapes of Sail to the Moon. But Backdrifts now sounds rather dated and We Suck Young Blood doth protest too much. A Punch Up at a Wedding didn’t seem to cut it either, but overall a great bag of tricks to dip into whether you’re a Radiohead fan or not.

I think I like Radiohead. I've kind of resisted them, and there were plenty of dull moments on this album where I was tempted to check out, but giving it a second listen yielded a very enjoyable listening experience. I have a feeling that I will come back to this album and it'll grow on me, but for now, I'm giving it 3 stars until I can really feel it out.

Computery. Radioheady. Could use a few more listens to really know. No song really stood out to me. Myxomatosis has that nice rumble. Mm. I don't mind a wolf at the door either.

kinda whiney

I enjoy lofi eeriness of Radiohead and will prob revisit this album when I want background music for an existential crisis

I do love early Radiohead. I do love that bands evolve. I never fully enjoyed Radiohead moving into more experimental sounds. This album is solid and has some good tracks.

Good music but too melancholic for my taste. The album would benefit from some faster rhythms. The cover is gorgeous though!

It’s alright. After years of disdain for the band, I’m slowly getting into them. This has some parts of the Radiohead I’ve hated for years, and some parts of the Radiohead I’ve liked for weeks. 3/5

I like the album cover. Reminds me of the Art installation at Union Market during the Vintage Con. Overall, it's not my favorite Radiohead Album. It has a lot of the same elements as some of the one's that I do like, but overall, not for me. It has a bit of a darker vibe than I generally prefer.

Tough to get through but respect to the legends

Cool. 3

Quite split on this one. On the one side I really like the creativity and uniqueness of the sound but on the other it’s really depressing in parts… I’m thinking 3

Men två radiohead alltså.

Not great not bad

I enjoyed this. Not my favourite of what we've heard from them but they continue to experiment and have a unique sound. 2+2=5 is a good track to start an album. The song starts light but gets fun. Keep doing your thing Radiohead. I don't know if I'll ever get them enough to listen often but I can see them being important to some people.

I'd be interested in hearing some radiohead songs where the vocals are replaced by a trumpet. The opening track is pretty good. Some other alright tracks. 2.7 This album has been removed from the list.

Okay. I know this album well. But the fact that it is here got me thinking about Radiohead generally because, I don't know how many of their albums are on the list, but I would say this was a "Bronze medal" album for them. I did a quick ranking: GOLD The Bends OK Computer Kid A In Rainbows A Moon Shaped Pool SILVER Pablo Honey BRONZE Amnesiac Hail to the Thief The King of Limbs All of these albums are great but I feel like Amnesiac, Hail to the Thief and the King of Limbs are just "Radiohead being Radiohead". They are sort of plateau-ing at whatever point they are at. Pablo Honey is a special case because it's their first album and rather looked down on now as juvenile or immature but that's why I like it. Youthful exuberance! And then the top, "gold," albums all felt like they were a step forward from what had come before. The Bends was a huge advance on Pablo Honey, OK Computer was a huge advance on that, and Kid A was a huge advance on that, going full jazz / electronica. I suppose you could argue that In Rainbows and A Moon Shaped Pool are just "Radiohead being Radiohead" but they are just better albums. They have better songs... I suppose the best way I can put it is: those albums made me pay attention and go "what's that?" Whereas the bronze albums sounded like the same old same old. And that's what this album is. It's fine! I will say it "I Will" is one of my favourite songs of their whole catalogue though.

Oxfordshire indie band get annoyed by LA heat and knock an album out in two weeks. Good work but prefer other of their albums better.

Not my jam

The first few songs I liked but then I felt like it was sort of the same sound again, and because it wasn't my genre it made it harder to enjoy

Hail To The Thief is a harrowing and cerebral album that utilises disjointedly chaotic and obtusely arranged compositions to convey the cynical and confrontational anti-capitalist sentiments that were first exhibited in OK Computer and Kid A.

there’s better radio head albumsss ahhhh

Not Radiohead's best work but not bad compared to most of the other albums on this list so far. 3.5

Probably my least favourite Radiohead album so far, but still decent in terms of musical style. The old rock and new electronic styles mesh well enough but lack the pure inventiveness of the older or even newer (In Rainbows) stuff. A few standout tracks, 2+2 and There There, but it's got a fair bit of fat that needs trimming in the track list. I'll definitely try it again in the future, but not for a while 31/01/24

I have always loved tunes with a straight ahead bass line. “Where I End and You Begin” fits the bill really well. The rest are not as accessible to me unfortunately.

I glanced off this; it's a repeat of that David Bowie album - I can hear the skill and the talent, but didn't make a connection to it. Enjoyed the music even if it didn't make a lasting impression.

Bleak, dark and full of angst.

Dark and moody.

2+2=5 is the only redeeming song off of this album, and this album is a far cry from the records that Radiohead gets its cult following from.

I don't dislike Radiohead, but I do think they are overrated and liked by some people simply because the critics say how great they are. This is not a great album, it's good for background noise or meditation.

Hail To The Thief doesn't hit in 2024 the way it did when it was first released. We Suck Young Blood still haunts me just as much. Wow - what a performance. 10/10 album art

Dull. It may be acclaimed, but nothing here grabbed my attention. No irritating, just...dull.

Not having listened to this in ages, it made me realise how it is a bit of a let-down after OK/Kid A/Amnesiac.

I enjoyed revisiting the album. It's been a while and this time around it's a bit reflective if that is the right term. It felt longer than I remember with a fair deal of what may be characterized as navel-gazing or shoe-staring.

I do enjoy this album. For me, it doesn’t hit quite as hard as Kid A or OK Computer though.

Un disco que me ha gustado. Suena poco a Radiohead.

ok, typical male lead singer voice of the late 90s early 2ks, some nice incorporation of electronic music though

Not bad, but overhyped

Gonna go with a high 3. It got pretty weird and long by the end and I don’t see why this Radiohead album needs to be included.

Not a fan of Radiohead outside of In Rainbows. This album is too “experimental” sounding and like most of their stuff, just isn’t accessible for most listeners (including me). I know they are critical darlings but I just don’t get why.

Not my style

Mellow, grew on me

Pretty angsty

It was fine background music for my workday, but only a couple songs grabbed my attention (Myxomatosis being one). I understand the quality and complexity of Radiohead. The talent, the technique, the experimentation and sonic exploration. And I can say to myself, "That's cool." But does it capture me, wow me, grip me into wanting to revisit? Not really. So I get it with my head, but not with my heart if you know what I mean.

Oh, this was good. I liked Sit Down. Stand Up. This gave me a different impression of Radio Head.

Only listened to half. Knowing nothing else about Radiohead I liked it. Sometimes made me feel anxious, but do t know if it was because of the album itself, or the general noise of the day

2+2=5 there there sail to the moon i will the rest not so memorable

It has a very similar fail to amnesiac. Some of the tunes are a little more up-tempo, but it is Radiohead at its core. Had I listened to this one first, I’d give it four stars. Since I gave hail to the thief, four stars, I can’t feel good about giving it to both. Still, solid three.

Good version of a protest album

Not favorite radio head album. Need revisit.

a couple of good songs, nothing that hurts, probably something that gets better with a ton of listens. 3 stars for the first listen tho

Great though not their best

Still, still not OK Computer.

Too heavy,

Not my music

This album helped me confirm its definitely not the music that makes me dislike Radiohead, it's the vocal. That said, it was a grey day fitting for the music, making it more tolerable, and I'm feeling generous...so you can have the extra star Thom

A darker album for Radiohead, this felt jarring in the first few tracks. As the album progressed I became more of a fan. It's hard for me to be fair to this record considering the band has put out so many which I would consider 5/5 that this felt...slightly disappointing? My favorite tracks: there, there & sail to the moon.

Weird….

I dislike Yorke's singing. Where I liked the music, I disliked the singing and vice versa.

What comes after an extraordinary opening track ends up being a bit monotonous record. [0089/1001]

I literally feel nothing when I listen to Radiohead's music. Like objectively it's good but when I sit down to listen to an album all the songs blend into one.

No shade on Radiohead, but I'm a few tracks in and I want to hear something new. Ok wait as I typed the above the drop to "Sit Down. Stand Up." Just dropped. Ok I've heard "Sail To the Moon" before. Let's See what Ryan Adams has for me.

Very creative and original. However only a few songs stood out to me. Best song: Sit Down. Stand Up/A Wolf At the Door. Rating: 6/10

This was alright I guess, can’t really remember any of it.I’m not really fond of electronic Radiohead.

There were some cool sounding songs on this album but I didn’t vive with the lyrics. They seemed pretty down. 6/10

Probably one of the most middle of the pack albums I've heard from Radiohead. As a fan I just don't understand why this album is here when they have 3 better albums to choose from. Decent sounding with lyrics that are impossible to understand and he sounds a lot like Muse on this album. 5/10

Kinda mid but has some bangers like there there and 2+2=5. Has some real stinkers tho. 6.5/10

Always a fan of Radiohead. Great for fans although not their best - but still good.

I love this album but there are a few mediocre songs mixed in here that bump my overall rating down.

This rating may be a bit unfair- the 3 is more in comparison to OK Computer, Kid A, and In Rainbows than all other albums…it was a good listen!

pretty good

Overall enjoyed it. Sometimes bands like Radiohead a hit or miss with me. I like some stuff, but occasionally it sounds like ambient noise. This one I liked, but not enough to make it a regular listen. 3.5/5 Might listen again

Radiohead kick ass. But this is not a particularly memorable set of songs.

Fine album, but just couldn’t get too into it for whatever reason.

Complex sad In need of reinforcement to understand

I don't really get Radiohead. It's not interesting enough for me to have a strong opinion. Background music

I did enjoy hearing this one for the first time, some of the songs are a very strange and interesting but I wouldn’t choose to listen again. I think I prefer Radiohead a little rockier and less moany like on OK Computer.

Radiohead is pretty okay ngl

Halloweenie vibes

Least favorite of the Radio head

Now that I'm thoroughly depressed ...

It was a decent listen, enjoyed it.

Very laid-back

More enjoyable than OK computer. Radiohead absolutely missed me when these albums were more relevant and I don't think they have the right impact without having any history with them.

Another album I had heard probably nothing from before but I enjoyed listening to this.

It all sounds a bit sad.

Favourite Songs: 2 + 2 = 5, Sail To The Moon, Where I End and You Begin, There There, Scatterbrain

This album has music on it! Still, a few tracks keep it from being 4 stars but I really enjoyed a few tracks on this one

I would listen to this. Infrequently. Once again not the greatest vocals, but the music was quite good, with a couple of standout elements used in various songs.

It felt like the album would be playing in a teenagers headphones in a horror tv show as they drive up to their new house. I kinda got my fill for the album after the first few songs and it kinda just gave me more of the same from there. If you do like Radio head I enjoy Car seat headrest There album Twin fantasy has the same kinda vibes.

More of a 3 star, a few skips but 2+2=5 starts off really strong! Myxomatosis is also dope

Irritating vocals. Some interesting arrangements but largely dull

Great album, less experimental than their previous album but still extremely enjoyable. It is a long way from perfect though, the album feels disjointed and overly long, I think this one could have benefited from a bit more work to homogenise the music and cut out some of the lesser contributions to the tracklist.

Zvlastny vyber albumu. Zaujali ma asi 4 skladby, najviac There There a 2+2, potom Facky a Gloaming.

Not my type

Radiohead always seems to surprise me. And at the same time, I feel like I have to approach them slowly. Initially, I wasn't a fan of them. Now as I slowly inhale them, I can appreciate them. As every album is vastly different, yet the same... I still don't find their material as easily accessible as like artists. Give me time, my opinion changes, as I slowly appreciate what is in front of me, and with a new ear and perception. Radiohead has been the longest I've ever given a band a chance. And I'm glad I'm slowly coming around. Would listen to this again. It's not my favorite but I like it.

Favorite song: 2 + 2 = 5 Least favorite: Sit Down. Stand Up. One word: overlooked

Okay, brooding, long winded but still good overall

Quite enjoyed this. Not the best they've done but still well worth a listen.

For Radiohead, this album is particularly boring. Good compositions, but the energy and the riffs just aren't there.

This album didn’t draw me in as intensely as “In Rainbows” did. Still good though.

Not their best

Whiny and somewhat boring overall, but fairly inoffensive. Rating 2.5.

We've had 2 Radiohead albums before this; this is better than Amnesiac (2), but not close to as good as OK Computer (4). So I guess it has to be a 3? 2+2=5 is a good song, but the rest is a bit too wallowy and dirgey for me. Nothing really sticks with me in the way that 3-4 tracks from OK Computer did. 3/5.

Not my favorite rh

I never really listened to Radiohead beyond OK Computer, but this is a bit Mars Volta-ish and I really love Mars Volta, but there’s something about Radiohead I just can’t get. Liked the first song and the last song, the rest just kind of was there

It was okay, I’m not massively into Radiohead personally a part from some of their big hitters. What I did like about this album was the almost improvisational feeling, a few of the songs sounded like they were jamming.

I mean, you know... It's Radiohead. Is it pretentious? Yes. Are they exceptionally talented? Yes, absolutely. Did I enjoy it? Not so much. But I can appreciate it.

Interesting musical ideas, but overall boring with too much droning in the vocals.

Another album where the lead singles are very good and listenable, it flows well but some of the songs are a bit too ploddy and slow for me. almost fell asleep during backdrifts which ironically led into one of the best songs on the album... 'go to sleep' 'There There and 'A Punch up at a wedding' brings this back up to a 3 for me

Oh this is some album, if it gets any livelier a funeral's going to break out

For years, I had dismissed this album as the drop in form after, arguably, the greatest three album run in music history. I realise now that this was slightly harsh. It still has a banger or two (“Stand Up, Sit Down”) but it’s nowhere near the mess I thought at the time

Insert Alan Partridge shrug here

As I get older, I appreciate Radiohead more. A lot of their songs still make me sleepy though. When it came out, I had no idea how political this album was. The blending of electronic and rock is really interesting. I can see how this influenced a whole wave of alt rock.

This is the first Radiohead album I have ever listened to all the way through. I wouldn't consider myself a Radiohead Fan, and this album didn't change that. Don't get me wrong, I don't hate them-they are just not really my cup of tea. As far as this album goes, I preferred the more "rock" leaning tracks and less so the more "electronic" leaning ones. There were a few tracks that I liked, but the overall feel, for me anyways, was a kind of mopey, trudging, and repetitive. I am glad I listened to this album, but it will probably be the last time I ever hear it.

I appreciate the artistry but can take Radiohead only in small doses. In other words I need to be in the mood for them.

Favorieten: Where I End and You Begin, The Gloaming

Not bad. Very moody. Still not a huge Radiohead fan.

Goog but winey

I may have been in the wrong mood to listen to this album. Parts were good; sit Down Dtand up reminded me of early, Syd Barrett era Pink Floyd and a Punch Up at a Wedding is a pretty damn good song but the rest is just kinda meh.

This is the only "good" Radiohead album I hadn't listened to (still haven't listened to King of Limbs or Pablo Honey). It's fine because Radiohead are like always of quality, but I think it's my least favorite album of theirs I've heard to date. 3.5/5

Good Radiohead but nothing special compared to their best stuff

I get it, but not for me personally

Was okay

Six Radiohead albums? No! Enough! It was long and moody, just like most of the others. I didn't hate it, I didn't love it. Are we done?

I don't think I can give this album a pure rating because I spent most of the listen stewing and wondering what this Radiohead album is bringing to the table that wasn't already served up in the previous (many) ones in the project. It was fine, but nothing that I found particularly outstanding.

Not my favourite Radiohead album. Not sure why.

Go To Sleep is my favorite track. The rest of it is good, but only just good.

Hail To the Thief is a solid outing by Radiohead, yet as with most of Radiohead's sound, I struggle to enjoy Tom Yorke's vocal work. However, despite this their melodies are almost soothing to listen to on this record. Best: The Gloaming Worst: I Will

A fine album but not quite up to the quality of Radiohead's classics. Doesn't do much that the other albums aren't already doing better

Very unique sound and writing. Not my absolute favorite, but I respect the hell out of it. The chords and progressions used are very interesting, they stand out a lot to me. The drums and beats again are rather unique. While I don’t think I’d want to own this album, I’d listen to it again.

My 14 yr old said "This sounds like more-depressing Nirvana" and it'll be tough for me to sum up Radiohead better than that.

Album 149 of 1001 Radiohead - Hail to the Thief Rating : 3 / 5 Not bad. Not sure that Radiohead is my thing. May have to give it another go.

I know Carson is sick of me saying it, but There There is the perfect song. From beginning to end, every note that comes next is exactly the note that should come next. The lyrics are great too. “In pitch dark I go walking through your landscape / Broken branches trip me as I speak” is perfect poetic imagery for a troubled relationship. And “just because you feel it doesn’t mean it’s there” is such timeless wisdom. But none of the rest of the songs are in my Radiohead Top 40. So even for a Radiohead superfan like me, just a 3, on the strength of There There alone.

Not my favourite radiohead

Pretty good! First album of this thing and like hearing something different. No absolute bangers from me and it probably won't be in my regular rotation.

not my favorite one, it was fine 3/5

Like most Radiohead albums on the first listen, I didn’t totally get it. There were definitely some awesome tracks (first two tracks start off very strong) but I got a little bored in the middle. Still a 3.5/5 but that could change with a re-listen

Radiohead have always passed me by. I get it, i just don't like it.

Pleasantly Surprised! Normally anything beyond pablo, bends or OK Computer is a little to avant grade Radiohead for me. Really enjoyed this listen and the album will be revisited.

Ensimmäisellä kuuntelulla ei jäänyt mitään mieleen. Tylsä levy. 5/10

Some songs were great, others were just meh. Evens out to a solid three.

This album was my introduction to Radiohead. It’s not bad, just kind of boring and forgetful.

3,5 ster denk ik

Will listen to this again. I always find with Radiohead that I need to listen a couple of times.

Radiohead seems pretty divisive, both in general and for me. I'm not a huge fan, I enjoy some of their music but whole albums can really bore me if I'm not in the mood for them. This one landed solidly in the middle for me.

Listened to this twice because I really wasn’t vibing with it on speakers. Bit better on headphones but overall I’m just not vibing with Radiohead. Maybe one day.. not my style of rock but the singles aren’t bad.

Good album, not sure it needed to be on this list, even the band themselves dont look back on it all too highly. Kid A, Ok Computer and In Rainbows would have sufficed.

This album is still very well-crafted, but I just didn't enjoy the music as much as some of their other most popular albums. It's definitely on the more experimental and electronic side of their career. That said, the haunting allure of Radiohead is definitely intact here, and I appreciated hearing that. This was certainly an interesting album, it just didn't really resonate with me as much as I might have hoped.

I remember reading once that Radiohead makes background music, and while that’s funny it’s also very true. Their music is very good, but very niche. They lack attention grabbers and repeatability, all their songs somewhat blend together with their style.

There’s no doubt this is a good band. Radiohead is not an easy band to like and I tried really hard to appreciate this album because I listened to it three times. But It’s definitely not as good as Kid A or OK Computer. It does have some moments though eg +2 equals five, where I end and you Begin. I can’t help thinking though that I would enjoy them much more if it were not for Thom Yorke‘s wailing and his annoying voice as it’s particularly irksome on this album

There were a few moments that I thought this was quite good, but overall it felt quite pretentious. 2.5

I think I would look at this album more favorably if it hadn't come directly between Kid A/Amnesiac and In Rainbows. It just feels like a step backwards from either direction. The political themes don't help either, because they feel very dated by now. Myxomatosis is incredible though.

Ok so I know I have not been a 'radiohead' person up to this point. This is a good record, and there are some really brilliant moments on it for sure, but it didn't give me a feeling like I really can't wait to listen to it again. I was bobbing my head and feeling the groove in a few places! But not many. Not 'enough'. I know how many people really do love this band and indeed this record and so it will definitely get a few more listens from me. It's a complex sound and is probably not something I can properly take in and appreciate with only a couple of listens. For example just going through the first track 2 + 2 = 5 I observed: ------------------ I actually restarted it halfway through to do it over with more volume - the big ‘escalation’ didn’t land properly on regular volume haha Cranked up it def was a cool track but I feel like they flaked out for the end of it like they didn’t know how to end the song haha - “just let Thom wail away and the producer can do some cool Beck stuff… that should be good right?” TBH this is a great start to the record though. Dig the overall riff and groove (surprise! It has both!), dig the Pablo Honey/The Bends-esque acoustic bit, Thom isn’t being too whiney at least.... ------------------------ So the mythical Radiohead 'aha moment' seems to have eluded me again but I will give it another go.

This has never been my favorite. I find the album to be a bit schizophrenic. There are some great songs, for sure. There, There and Where I End are standouts. Overall, though, this still seems like a bit of a letdown after Kid A and Amnesiac. Can’t really fault any band for a letdown after albums like that, though.

19th May 2023 Listened to most of this while running around Dublin trying to find confetti for Sav’s wedding. One of radioheads more mediocre offerings but that’s still higher than most band’s best. You can sense this is in between their full experimentation and their old, harder inclinations. 3.5 if I could.

Not my favorite. Some great songs, some boring songs. Maybe I need to listen again. This did not grab me from the start.

This album started alright, lost me in the middle, and really closed out nicely. The moodiness and creepiness was nice at times but, much like the war that the album is criticizing, it overstayed its welcome. Eventually the droning middle guts of the album became kind of boring (except for We Suck Young Blood) but the last four songs on the album were excellent (especially Myxomatosis). That all being said, pick any song on here to use as a back track to a war film criticizing the War on Terror and it will absolutely work.

The album reveals its full potential on the second listen. However, it also contains some uninspired songs. My top 3 tracks: 1. "A Wolf At the Door" 2. "Scatterbrain" 3. "2 + 2 = 5"

Some good songs, some whiny, bland forgettable songs

Listened Before? N More Radiohead. This one didn't stand out a ton. I liked it enough but it didn't really blow me away. Added to Library? N Songs added to playlist: 2+2=5

I’m in the “Radiohead is overrated” camp. This is something I can listen to in the background but didn’t grow any attachment to it.

Perhaps Radiohead's most political album. But despite the anger, they still managed to hold on to their signature whiny sound. This is in fact the intersection of all their biggest sounds. The guitar-driven rock of OK Computer, the mesmerizing electronica of Kid a, and even the relaxing yet explosive build-up of In Rainbows. Tbh, it's a bit of a challenge getting into this one, not necessarily because it's super weird, but because it's deceptively generic. Maybe after a few relistens, I will appreciate it more.

It's difficult, because I am a fan of Radiohead. However, I've always felt this album is... out of place. They really went for it on the last one and a half (since Amnesiac came from the same sessions as Kid A), but this record feels like them dialing it back all the experimentation a bit. It's still solid, just not my favorite, and in my opinion, not as memorable. Favorite tracks: "There, There", "2+2=5", "The Gloaming"

Highlights: "Myxomatosis," "Sail to the Moon," "There, There," "Scatterbrained" This feels more polished than Amnesiac. Besides "Myxomatosis," it's hard to say the band tries anything new, but that's also because they'd been expanding their range for two albums. You can think of earlier companion pieces throughout: "I Might Be Wrong" and "Life in a Glasshouse" for "We Suck Young Blood" or "Wolf at the Door", or "Like Spinning Plates" for "Backdrifts". The lyrics keep up this tendency of theirs to have some kind of remainder, something so specific that it becomes distracting or strains the larger image. Like the cat in "Fitter, Happier" or the lemon in "Right Place," you will get , or a belaboring where the wolf at the door must be a literal kidnapper and nothing else more relatable. The album can drag on highly repetitive climaxes like with "2 + 2 = 5," "Sit Down Stand Up," and "The Gloaming." The slow songs tend to be the real standouts, with stranger harmonies and vocal performances that are just as strong and expressive. It's only because they've had such consistently strong output that we could call this album one of their flops.

Another classic Radiohead album! First time listening to this one but not bad at all! Not my favorite but certainly not bad at all!

Has a lot of the stuff I don't like radio for but one or two good tracks.

Not my favourite radiohead album ,but not the worst album ive ever heard

Never really listened to Radiohead before. It's one of those albums I would have to be in the mood for aa it is the sort that can't be played quietly. But I imagine it will grow on me so

The songwriting is great, but the whole album's atmosphere is distanced and rather cold so I haven't enjoyed it as much as I wanted to. This album is not as memorable to me as their previous works in their fantastic catalogue. The level of quality is always really high with Radiohead though. I'd give it a 3.5 out of 5.

This is getting back to more guitar driven songs in their discography. This one is growing on me a bit but still not classic radiohead in my mind.

Sounds like all radiohead

Occasionally I come across a Radiohead song I like, but not frequently. This is one of those bands that I feel are supposed to like, but...

I think I’d like them better if they were a predominately instrumental group.

Note how many self-professed Radiohead fans here say they don't even listen to this one very much. The album is musically on point like Radiohead always is, but it's a bit of a drag to listen to and not something I would just throw on. This is one that would benefit from repeated listenings, I'm sure. But I'm not a masochist. Fave Songs: Scatterbrain, Where I End and You Begin, Myxomatosis, 2 + 2 = 5, Go to Sleep

I enjoy their music, but I wasn’t really into most of the songs on this album.

One of the more mediocre of the post Kid A era - starts rather weak but then starts picking up towards the end. Don’t know what to make of second life Radiohead - I liked them and still like them at times but they don’t seem to have songs - yet they are not even too spaced - they kind drift between pop and film score music like in a dream. However Hail to the Thief misses a bit the mark compared to others of its ilk.

I have given them chances, but their slow, boring, lifeless writing is just not for me. Without a doubt an overrated band.

Liked it

It's a pretty good album, but like so much of their stuff, it only occasionally rises above the level of background or mood music.

Not the Radiohead album I would've thought to encounter here first, but also not one I'm too familiar with. Starting off in 7/4 is just such a classic Radiohead thing to do. Fairly mellow given Radiohead's body of work but with all of the notable stylistic choices of the band in the early 00's. A good album to listen back on

Liked the bends, liked ok computer, but this is just Radiohead trying to be weird. Could be worse, could be Kid A.

Its not the best but its fine

3.5/5, not my favorite of Radiohead's, still solid.

Good? I dunno. Sonically interesting but hard to groove to.

Radiohead album where it departs from electronica and introduces more rock. Pretty good.

I can recognize that this album is probably really good for somebody who enjoys this genre, but for me the music is too "noisy" and overwhelming and the vocals too droning

No real hits on this one. Good, but just meh.

Good mix of programmed sounds and rock guitars etc. Fine as a Radiohead album, but still too often a bit inaccessible and difficult. However the good bits are really very good.

Not my fav Radiohead album

I never really appreciated Radiohead until I saw them live. I still think they are way better live than on an album but I'm not sure why. This album felt kind of boring even though I'm sure it would be amazing if I saw them perform it. 3.5 stars.

Over long but has enough of interest and quality to sustain it.

Good album

it’s okay but radiohead are best when they make tight crafted pop songs not depressive electro jams

I wonder how this album would rate if it didn’t have a famous band name attached. The music's OK, but nothing to die for.

I liked it better then Kid A. Thom Yorke's voice is still weird.

Excellent production - would probably require a few more listens to get the most out of

I have heard most of the Radiohead albums and I would consider myself as a fan of theirs. I really enjoy their work. This album has been on my list; to listen to; and yeah... I've heard a couple of tracks from this before but it's still a really enjoyable experience. Not their best work but still considerable and it's really nice to see how their work has evolved throughout the years.

I love RH. This one has brilliant moments (There, There is my highlight) but there is baggage which makes it overlong. It also lacks the sonic thematic focus that makes OK, KidA, and especially Rainbows great. Could easily be a 4 but its a 3

already listened, amongst the weakest Radiohead albums. RH made tightly focused concept albums at their best - this one is just purely reactionary. nothing bad with it, of course, but it’s too in-your-face to take it too seriously.

Not my fave Radiohead but good

3 I’ve always been very tepid about Radiohead. I’ve always found Creep to be fine but is not representative of the band’s sound. I enjoyed In Rainbows quite a bit but it isn’t something I find myself going back to very often. I feel mostly the same about this, maybe a teeny bit better than the others but not by a lot. At first I found the album boring and lifeless but after a few listens I found myself enjoying Thom’s nonsensical crooning. I will probably listen again because it is quite textured, but I’m not stumbling over myself to do so.

Puolessavälissä kyllästyin ja vaihdoin Bendsiin. Sori, Radiohead, love the band but not the album.

I don’t usually like Radiohead despite their popularity. I find them melancholy and depressing but this wasn’t too bad. 3*

Alright, mix of good and bad

Appreciate the longevity and the style, but just cant get into it like the fans can. Thom is impressive but it goes stale after 4 or 5 songs

3.5/5. This was good. Not my favorite Radiohead album, but good.

I thought I would end up liking this album more, as I've had some interest in listening to Radiohead for a long time, but I feel that I'm missing something here. Maybe I'd like their older albums more than this one. I think it picked up with the last five or so songs, but I was kind of bored before that. Nothing really grabbed my attention. My favourite songs were 2 + 2 = 5 and A Punch Up At a Wedding.

Radiohead, for as much praise as they get, are not perfect. That's not to say that Hail To the Thief is bad, it's just sandwiched between two fantastic sound-defining albums. Amnesiac, released just two years earlier, was a dark and atmospheric album that purposefully explored electronic and even ambient spaces. Hail To the Thief would be followed up by In Rainbows 4 years later, which was a lush, mellow rock experience that was more grounded in it's sound. Where does that leave Hail To the Thief? Our awkward middle child is anything but. It confidently wields synths against dissonant guitars. Drummer Philip Selway plays an instrumental part of the sound as he provides a strong foundation as the rest of the band explores strange new sounds. If Radiohead is to be remembered for anything, it's their willingness to experiment. While I am open to the band expanding their sonic pallet, this is one of the times where it has varying success. While other albums have a more consistent tone and theme to them, Hail To the Thief feels like it doesn't know quite where to hang it's hat. This is further exemplified by every song having two titles (unnecessary) and the cover art being a messy word collage that evokes no strong feelings. That's not to say that all of Hail To the Thief is bad. Some of Radiohead's best songs are on here (2 + 2 = 5 and There There come to mind). Radiohead's capacity towards great output is not diminished with this release, it just doesn't quite match the same level of excellence set by the albums before or after it. It's a perfectly serviceable album that I don't see myself returning to any time soon.

helt mysigt

Luustig pärmbild....

Welp, there were a few tracks that I would describe as slower chill beats. Those were interesting, mainly for the highly stylized use of random sounds and synth. Best complemented with a dark, complex stout. Then there were several tracks that were angrier and didn’t have much melody. As in most Radiohead work, the lyrics are intricately woven and meaningful, with this album politically driven at times. Lyrically, their absolute worst album can be considered 10x better than a ‘best album’ from one of dozens of late 80’s boozy hairbands. But I’d probably enjoy the lighter lyrics with those bands, along with a cold light beer. I still like The Bends and Kid A much better.

Solid album by the always reliable Radiohead. Can't say I'm really a big fan, but I appreciate that they release some good listenable music with so much other crap in the world. I don't know if I believe the hype about the band, but they are enjoyable enough. 3.5/5

The difference between "Ok Computer" and this album is whopping. I prefer the first since my taste for electronic music is not so accurate and, usually, I'm not too fond of it. Still, I must assume that some songs caught my attention—a solid 3 stars in my not-so-solid personal rate system.

I am a fan of the earlier Radiohead albums. By the time this one came out, I had lost interest. I had never listened to this album in its entirety and it IS notable. But not enjoyable. I feel like I’m wading through treacle. There were a couple of really decent songs: 2+2 = 5, There, There. Admirable work, guys. You are great at experimentation but you lost me on the ride.

I just don't 'get' Radiohead. No doubt they are very creative and hugely talented musicians who make varied and intricate music, but their songs and albums just do nothing for me. This isn't one of their 'rated' albums but, although a bit overlong, I thought it was fine. With repeated listens the political themes and musical subtleties may become more apparent, but why would I put in the work when there are other artists I enjoy infinitely more straight away? Rating: 2.5/5 Playlist track: 2 + 2 = 5 Date listened: 16/11/22

I tend to overlook this album when listening to Radiohead discovery. This is a good album and most likely deserves its place on the list. It just happened to be in the shadows of the other Radiohead true masterpieces. And I would still even prefer the Bends and Amenesica to this. But an average radio head album is still a very good album.

I find that Radiohead is one of those bands that you have to get to really enjoy - and I don't get them all that well. The evidence being the fact that I thought Creep was better than a chunk of these songs. When the record veers more into regular alt rock with songs like Go to Sleep, There, There or Where I End and You Begin, it sounds great. When it teeters the line between that and more atmospheric elements like We Suck Young Blood & Sail to the Moon, it's still fun. But when the songs start sounding like the soundtrack to an alien abduction, that's when I tune out.

Some of it is brilliant, some of it veers perilously close to pretentious bullshit. 3 stars.

Thom Yorke has a pleasant ghost alien voice. Not my fav Radiohead album, but still great. I always found this one to be a little creepy

I've never listened to this before - I know Radiohead more for their earlier albums like The Bends or OK Computer. Other reviewers are dropping 5 stars but saying it's a challenging listen that requires multiple listens to really get a lot out of it. This is a challenging listen, but I don't want to listen to this multiple times to leave a review so I can possibly get everything out of this. I thought listening to this album was more of a chore and isn't really immediately accessible unless you've been watching Radiohead change as a band from their earlier output to this. I'm sure it's a good album, but it's just not really for me.

Most certainly not my favorite Radiohead album, but it is certainly creative and pushes boundaries. I think the electronic incorporation is cool, but it is better done on In Rainbows. Not to say that it isn't good, it's just not the best and not nearly my favorite. Highlights: 1, 12, and 14.

‘There, There’ elevates this album from a two.

I once saw this as one of Radiohead's weaker releases, but it isn't bad at all. I think this is one of those albums that grows on you over time.

3.3 + I might rank this Radiohead album below Pablo Honey. Mostly it sounds like a Thom Yorke solo project, which tend to fixate on beats and textures and less on tunes and ideas. There are a few clunkers, most notably “Sit Down, Stand Up”, which kills the flow of side A. The best moments are when Yorke lets in the rest of the band - “There, There” and “Go To Sleep.” A boring and confusing mess.

Hail to the Thief is the sixth album by English alternative rock band Radiohead. The album is critically acclaimed, it won the Grammy Award for Best Engineered Non-Classical Album in 2004, and has been certified platinum in the US. Compared to previous Radiohead albums, this one feels a tad long and lackluster. It still contains the same type of art rock music, but centered more on guitars which I can appreciate it. This may be one of the poorer performing Radiohead albums.

This album felt super boring. I don’t really have much positive to say, but it also wasn’t bad I guess

this feels like a step backwards for radiohead given what i know of their earlier work. it’s….fine. 2+2=5 is solid, but everything else is meh.

just radiohead really, innit? very melancholy slow, jammy, mellow -Sit Down, Stand Up -Where I End and You Begin -Myxomatosis

Not their strongest.

Good to finally listen to some Radiohead. I can see its appeal to some (many, apparently) with some great atmospheric sounds and vibes. But it’s not something I’m likely to come back to. So once again, three stars from me.

Sometimes criticized for not being as much of a reinvention as their previous few albums, this is a bit of a return to a more standard style (more guitar, keyboards, more recognizable song structures, recorded quickly and in a more live format), although this could hardly be accused of being a ordinary or by-the-book album. I find it a bit of a relief to return to something more approaching a band-like format rather than the deliberate and extreme experimentation of the previous few albums. It is hardly OK Computer, though. I found this pleasantly listenable, if not particularly memorable or enervating. It is nice to hear the occasional guitar that sounds like, you know, a _guitar_.

Didn't much fit with me, some good moments but in the end feels like is something I wouldn't want to listen again

Best Song: Sit Down. Stand Up. I really like the flurry of chaos that happens around 3:00 in. I wish the album were full of more moments like that. Worst Song: Scatterbrain. Melancholy caterwauling. One of those songs where I don't have an emotional reaction, despite the vocalist's attempts to emote really hard. Overall: Probably my favourite of the three Radiohead albums I've had thus far, if only by a small margin. Still, I'm left wishing their songs were on average more adventurous than they end up being.

Very melancholy tones and distorted sound.

was ok

I love this album it gets my wife right in the mood. Fred West

I'm trapped in a basement

Vocals are great and emotional as usual for Radiohead. The lyrics are also pretty good in general. But the style is too electronic for me, some songs are unlistenable to, giving me an instant headache (the gloaming, myxomatosis)

Weird. Like normal Radiohead. Not for me

Yeah it’s good. It’s Radiohead, right? It’s just a bit too meditative and less gripping. Perhaps I should be kinder. Ok, three stars feels kind.

Not bad, but parts that are too angsty/dark for me. Parts of this sound like In Rainbows, which is cool. Not exactly my cup of tea but I'm glad I listened to it.

Dang, they must have the whole Radiohead catalog on here. Someone's a Radioheadhead. As usual, quirky music, lots of atmospheric synthy stuff going on, faint industrial production. I liked a number of tracks, but I agree with Alex's assessment that this is on the lower end of the RH albums we've had, possibly the bottom. Still decent, but not much to write home about. Favorite tracks: Sit Down Stand Up, Backdrifts, Myxomatosis. Album art: I do like this one, I've seen it before and had no idea it was Radiohead. Looks like a melting heap of license plates. 3/5

There, There también me gusta.

A very, um, challenging listen. It did get better each time I tried again, but I’m at the point where appreciating is gonna lose out to enjoying every time.

Liked In Rainbows more.

Cool variety, nice soundscapes, great guitar and synth tones on this. Really enjoyed scatterbrained and there there

Very eerie, but good.

Another radiohead album... It amazes me that an album which has (IMO) radioheads best song as its opener can then drone on to such nothingness... its a 3 because 2+2=5 is great and there's one more song that's pretty good but I can't remember the name lol

tHERES BEtter Radiohead AlbubMs

Good soundscapes. Potential for a second listen, but nothing that caught my attention immediately.

Weird! but good!

Like a soundtrack to a movie set in a future dystopian society

I've always shied away from Radiohead. Too big, too ambitious. But it has to be better than bloody Coldplay. Hail to the Thief was a pleasant surprise. Some lovely harmonising and melodies. It feels a little dated and of the time with the subject matter. The world was a different place in 2003 when all we had to worry about was The War on Terror. This has quite a rainy day feel to it. Which was fitting as I listened to it on the day we had our first downpour in a couple of months.
