Well made but not my thing

This was a tough listen… didn’t give it a 1 because at least it didn’t hurt my ears. However, I cannot even imagine trying to produce any of these songs and being like “wow, we are really gonna make it out the hood with this one”. Yeesh beach boys

okay but not my style

Cannot overlook that Sloop John B has done immeasurable damage to our wonderful English football songbook. Admittedly it did make me burst out laughing when it started playing

These bells keep pushing my brain to feel like I’m listening to a Christmas album without all the joy

It's iconic, but I'm not impressed.

Not very cool is it? Lads singing like that. Very clean shirt, buttons done up to eleven. Try some cools drugs boys, sack off the bible (probably)

I don’t think I like The Beach Boys

It's not true for all Beach Boys albums, but on this one these guys are way too carefree for me, it makes me sick. 2/5

Ugh. Still reminds me of my dad, ugly sweaters, and racist frat boys. Can’t get there.

Ive never understood the attention this album gets.

Oh great another ‘great at the time’ album. What a chore this was.

Definitely the best Beach Boys album. Iconic, wildly popular, and influential. Still don't really like it though. I kind of liked their stuff when I was a kid, but since then that's faded and it all sounds a bit meh. 2/5 for me

Don't see what the fuss is about. Some obviously hummable tunes and quality production, but underwhelming.

Some undeniable bangers, but most of this is mid

Fairly inoffensive but I remember learning Sloop John B in first year at school in the mid sixties.

Listening to this and realizing I just don’t like The Beach Boys.

I've never really liked the Beach Boys and I've listened to Pet Sounds before. On a re-listen, I have a greater appreciation for the lyrics, which are basically classic love poetry. But I find the dreamy instrumentation saccharine, Brian Wilson's voice too doo-wop, especially in combination with the harmonizing backing vocals. Other people are clearly getting a LOT out of this album and I can understand that it revolutionised recording, but I still don't really like it, sorry.

After ten minutes I was sick of The Beach Boys. Wouldn’t it be nice is great though but I think of that still of Pedro pascal smiling every time I hear it

Welp. It’s The Beach Boys.

ugh i dont care if its revolutionary, that doesn’t make me like it any more. im just genuinely bored and the singing just drones on.

I'm sure this slapped in the 60s but I don't think this has aged well. That might have something to do with the fact I listened to the album in mono rather than stereo. But I also think the best Beach Boys songs (Good Vibrations, Surfing USA) are not on this album

Nice background noise.

Not for me.

Pretty sure I listened to this a while ago and forgot to rate it. After 2 listens, I can confidently say that I am not a fan of The Beach Boys. Wouldn't It Be Nice is alright, and God Only Knows is a good tune. The rest I did not like.

Wouldn't it be nice and God only knows are both ok tunes. Everything else is mediocre at best. Thankfully it is not a very long album.

Look It's the Beach Boys, people call this one of the top 5 albums of all time. Revolutionary, etc. It's just not for me. I do not like this album, but bonus points for it being so iconic. Best Song: Wouldn't it be Nice Rating: 4.0/10 (Forgettable) 2 Stars

yeah, no. Sloop John B is OK, the rest not so much.

Not really my thing.

No, thus was not something I enjoyed mire that a couple of songs perhaps

didn't realize this album was so Doo-Wop-y, but then again, its from 1966. Also sounds very good for something from 1966 (maybe that's what all the fuss is about?)

I once owned a compilation album by The Beach Boys. It had 20 of their love songs on it. I think it was called 20 Love Songs By The Beach Boys, but I digress. Anyway, it was very good. Pet Sounds on the other hand, I just can't get hyped about. Other than Wouldn't It Be Nice and God Only Knows, it's so drippy and schmaltzy and it irks me. 2 stars for those 2 songs.

I don't like this album as much as I think I'm supposed to; I've often heard it compared to Sgt Peppers or other Beatles concept albums but it falls short for me because Brian Wilson doesn't have the chops--maybe he does musically--but lyrically he's got an incredibly limited range. "Wouldn't it be nice" is great in a classic Beach Boys way but when he steps away from his surfing wheelhouse you get vapid platitudes e.g. "I wasn't made for these times" and "I know there's an answer," which, tbh, are nearly Shagg-like in their inanity.

Boring.

Very 60's

Dont like their sound

There were a few iconic songs. However, i've not been a big fan of the beach boys, and i still am not.

am I supposed to like The Beach Boys… is it bad that I don’t. Many songs just kinda have cheesy show-tuney singing. Makes me think of tautiniai aidai not in a good way

Oy. I know I’m supposed to like this and be very impressed by it. But I just can’t seem to get there with this band. Intellectually, I can kinda get it. But I just don’t like their music, or the lead singer’s voice, enough. The best I could do was the instrumental, and even that was a push.

I hear this was a very important album in the history of music and good for them but, regardless, it's not for me. Fave Track: Wouldn't It Be Nice Rating: 2

Not my cup of tea. "Wouldn't be nice" just because "50 First Dates" it's one of my favorite movies. Didn't like the music so much, to much horns, and pedal notes. I likea different kind of "surf songs" lol

Hármast akartam rá adni, de rájöttem, hogy az nem elég, hogy nem kapok tőle agyfaszt. Szorri, szétuntam az agyam, még háttérzeneként is.

Odd record with a couple of hits.

The Beach Boys are fine in isolation but a whole album, especially one that repeats tracks is too much.

Liian ”pehmoisia” ja ei-mieleenpainuvaa, että omille soittolistoille mitään lisäisi.

2/5 - The lyrics are boring, the vibe is boring. I do really like god only knows, however - 3.5/5

I’ve never enjoyed The Beach Boys. Too pop for me, but I appreciate Brian Wilson’s genius. 2

i fw this heavy, until i noticed all the songs lowkey started to sound the same :(

Lots of harmonies… so many harmonies. I always think of the Beach Boys as my dad’s music, but I actually only recognized 2 songs off this album.

Is this an objectively good album? Yes. Do I like it? No. The voice of the lead singer makes me want to tear my ears off and the only songs I liked were the instrumental and God Only Knows(mostly due to sentimental value) and al of this comes along with the fact that I hate 60s pop with a passion that burns hotter than the sun. This album is good but I still hate it.

Didn't need both mono and stereo, one album was enough

not my type

I had heard some of these songs but never the full album. It’s just not that great. I know this “revolutionised” production but it is massively over produced which distracts from the core of the songs buried in there

boah ist das alt(backen)

This is one the most critically acclaimed albums ever? LOL. 2.0

I'm not the biggest Beach Boys fan. I mostly find their music pretty tepid and not really anything worth paying much attention to, despite how big they were back in the day. That said, when they got a good track down (namely "God Only Knows" and "Wouldn't It Be Nice" from this album) they really were great. Unfortunately the rest of the album pales in comparison to the very few highlights here.

I really wanted to like this album more than I did. I even tried it three times. And I found myself forgetting it was on midway through all three times. The vocals are clean. The sound is great. It just doesn’t hold my attention. Outside of three winners, the rest of the songs are easily forgettable.

I know this is good but I dont like it

I really dislike The Beach Boys. I'm not sure why. I made it through two thirds of the album and had to stop. It's cheesy, hokey, upbeat. They're like a skit where a band is trying hard to be all those things...but they're real.

I appreciate it but I found it boring

Man this era of The Beach Boys was SO sleazy, it’s really hard to enjoy it as serious music. Now Surfs Up from 1971, was truly an amazing album, and I gave that one a very high rating, but this will probably be a 2 for me.

Christmas music for any time of year.

This is kinda mid. This is kinda miiiiid. This is nothing special. This is kinda mid.

If cheesy Christmas music was more mushy and whiny you'd have a Beach Boys song every time.

Ähh, vähän tylsää. Aika aurinkoista, mutta ei vaan ollut mitään tarttumapintaa. Tuommosta perus 60-luvun rockia. Parhaat: Wouldn't Be Nice, mikään muu ei jäänyt mieleen jos sekään

Youtube music transitioned this into The Beatles when the album finished and I didn't notice a change. 'Nuff said.

Goat feeding Beach Boys on the cover playing easy listening pop from the 60's.

Not a fan. I understand it's an iconic album, but I can't bring myself to listen to it. It can stay in that era.

Just annoying

I know this is supposed to be a masterpiece and I really tried but it just sounds so cloying and awful. If this site had 1/2 stars I’d go even lower.

Unpopular opinion but I think this is one of the most overrated albums of all time. Yes, the productions is good. Wouldn't It Be Nice and God Only Knows are fine songs but the rest is just Brian Wilson deteriorating into madness while Mike Love is a punchable asshole.

Other than the couple of hits, the album was a bit too slow.

Not entirely sure what's going on with the ambient sounds combined with the retro/dweeby vibe of most of the songs. Was it retro/dweeby at the time? Not sure. Anyway. It's Beach Boys.

Hippie kinda vibe! Too long a bit too similar the tracks

Disappointingly dreary. Nice harmonies.

I’ve known that this is considered a masterpiece for decades, cos people I admired musically mentioned its influence. It left me absolutely cold, ironically, considering its origins. 3 decent tracks that I know well (but would never seek out) and the rest just sounded like filler. Outdated filler.

One of those albums I’ve always heard of as being on the lists of albums you must listen to so wasn’t surprised to have it pop up on here. I’d never heard it though. Apart from the obvious hits. Not sure I’ll listen to it again but I did like “Let’s go away for a while”. Then it finished and some Stevie Wonder came on my iTunes and that was much better. Sorry, Boys.

I feel like this went over my head? Like I missed the vibe?

I expected to like the album a lot, but I don't. It is dreary. Other than Wouldn't It Be Nice, everything sounds roughly the same. God Only Knows is miserable. I've read the Wikipedia article, and reviews, but I just don't get it, the hype. Probably my own fault. Thoroughly disappointed.

Leans far to much on the psychedelic side for my liking. I'm just not into the dream like sound their music has. Highlights: Wouldn't It Be Nice

I've listened to this album before....Aside from the 2 hits, none of this really does anything for me. Very dated now. Appreciate that it was great at the time 2.5

Boring

It was fine.

Boring

Too happy.

Yeah, with music like this I'd likely rather be into painting or politics

I dont think I would be particularly interested in music if I was born back then

There were more instrumental sections than I associate with the Beach Boys (I always think about harmony). But ultimately, I think this music is a creature of its time and hasn't aged as well as other '60s-era bands.

Not for me. A couple of catchy songs. I had a hard time getting through the album. I had to break it up in several listening sessions. Not a fan. 2/5

Pet Sounds is a great album name. Meh this album was pretty boring for me. I see why this was probably a super popular album in the 60's, but unfortunately didn't stand the test of time for me.

Not a big fan. It’s mellow but has no meaning to me

The Beach Boys really haven't stood the test of time. "Wouldn't It Be Nice" is the ONLY song worth it.

Try as I might to give this an unbiased listen The Beach Boys are simply “my dads music” from a time when I was starting to choose “my music.” Didn’t really enjoy my time here, but didn’t dislike it as much as I thought I would

I would have just given this album three stars and moved on, but I've listened to it several times over the years and it just doesn't make sense to me. It's not good. God Only Knows is a nice song, but not perfectly executed. There are some ideas but poor recording, arrangement, and singing really let it down. Like nails on a chalk board to my ears.

i havent done these in two days so idk if ill finish this but whatever wouldnt it be nice- trailer music. not as in park as in movie. i mean its whatever. 6 you still believe in me- is this a lullaby. i dont care. 3 thats not me- boring too. this album is gonna be asshole. 2 or 3 dont talk (put your head on my shoulder)- paul anka did it better bitch. this is so fucking slow i wanna kms. 2 im waiting for the day- the opening drums gave me hope but it was dashed when he started singing. the flute (?) section is ok but whatever. ew. its not very good. 3 lets go away for awhile- i like how i dont have to listen to him sing but its pretty boring too. 4. sloop john b- jonathan..... its kinda ok actually. not egregious and not putting me to bed either. 5. god only knows- right back to this stupid shit. 3. only a three because at the end he says "what good would living do me?" and thats funny i know theres an answer- i got so into my sudoku i forgot music was playing. boring. 2 here today- stupid too. 2 i just wasnt made for these times- 2 pet sounds- did not include any pet noises. 2 caroline no- FINALLY SOME FUCKING PET NOISES. the rest was stupid. 2 this album was stupid. favorite song was john b or whatever

Never liked these guys.

I feel guilty when I'm not a big fan of such notorious bands like this. I do like "wouldn't it be nice" 2.5

Der var ikke så mange good vibrations som jeg havde håbet på

An interesting one that's highly rated and critically acclaimed. But I just can't get into it - in this genre, I'm a bigger fan of The Carpenters.

Wouldn't it be Nice - 3/5 You Still Believe in Me - 1/5 Gma That's Not Me - 2/5 Don't Talk - 2/5 I'm Waiting for the Day - 2/5 Let's Go Away for a While - 1/5 Sloop John B - 2/5 God Only Knows - 2/5 I Know There's an Answer - 2/5 Here Today - 3/5 I Just Wasn't Made - 1/5 Pet Sounds - 2/5 Caroline, No - 1/5 37 minutes of grandma music

I understand it's old, but it's boring to me.

22 Based on this scale: 1 - 0 to 19 2 - 20 to 39 3 - 40 to 59 4 - 60 to 79 5 - 80 to 100 Ugh, surf rock. Nice vocal harmonies, I guess.

As surprised as I was yesterday about how good Motorhead was, and how well it stood up over time, this is the complete opposite. Hard to get through.

Yeah no this wasn't it for me. Despite having one of my favourite songs ever in it (God Only Knows is maybe one of the most beautiful songs ever imo) the overall album just didn't resonate. I listened in mono and genuinely that may be partly why? Will relisten in stereo but I feel like it's the content that misses for me. So much of the lyrics are the epitome of needy, unrequited, horny ballads without being enough of a banger to justify it. Go back to the beach lads. I feel like the album pivoted at Let's Go Away into some less paint by numbers pop and had some psych influences (Caroline No is such a bizzare end song that I think they're doing for an effect) but I just don't feel like it stuck the landing. Highlights: God Only Knows, Let's Go Away For Awhile, Sloop John B Relisten? Yes in stereo, then probs not. I've got the songs that I wanted from the album and don't love the full experience.

this is cute or whatever

Wouldn't it be Nice and God only Knows are the obvious standouts. The rest is decidedly meh. Why is this album a classic? Just those two songs? 2/3 stars.

Out of the entire album I enjoyed 2 songs but overall found it repetitive and boring

It was fun. Good but not great.

Probably a mind fuck at the time but I find it boring. The hits were nice though.

Several songs here that I knew, but didn't realize were Beach Boys. As usual for The Beach Boys, the harmonies are fantastic. This album makes you feel good. Overall it's fine, but it does feel like they've done this several times before and maybe the creativity and fire are fading.

Better than I remember it being. I think I just really hate the song "Wouldn't it Be Nice"

man, I grew up with the same classic Beach Boys singles as everyone listening to their parents' music in the 80s, but now as an adult, all I hear is the overproduction that I heard on "Smile," which I got in this project before "Pet Sounds." And that overproduction - the xylophones, the timpanis, the million-part harmonies - makes me think only of the scene from "Walk Hard." "I need more didgeridoos. A thousand didgeridoos!"

Wouldn’t it be nice… to not have so many songs on an album… classics great… rest of it sounded like one long same song

Cool but dull

Completely uninteresting and I don’t get why it’s such a big deal.

Basically a lot of pleasant nothing. Wouldn't It Be Nice and God Only Knows are highlights.

Heard it before?: Yes Enjoy it?: No, I find this one completely overrated, apart from having some of their more iconic and bigger tracks. There is nothing here that makes me want to to put this on a pedestal because every other public opinion is so favourable, very slow and boring. Favourite song: Track 1 - Wouldn’t it Be Nice

I never was really into the Beach Boys. Their music is OK but not my jam.

Heh. So, here we are. One of the most highly regarded albums of all time...no doubt even the MOST regarded album in many people's opinions. And I don't like it. I fully understand this album's influence on modern pop music, and even its significance in the psychedelic music spaces. But for the most part, this album just drags and is uninteresting. To me, it sounds like an LSD trip, which Wilson cited as a big influence, anyway. I found myself wishing all of the other songs were more like "Wouldn't It Be Nice" and "God Only Knows", as these songs are outstanding and the crown jewels of this album, as well as among the crown jewels of all Beach Boys work. But no, the rest of the album felt a bit disjointed from these songs. I want to love this more, but it's just really not for me. This may be my most controversial score to date, but here it is. It 100% deserves a spot on this project, though, of that there is no doubt.

Very 60’s. I was never a huge fan of the Beach Boys, but this was alright. Probably won’t be coming back to this album. 2/5

Wouldn't it be nice if this album was any good? Jokes aside, I was surprised that the most popular song on the album and the one it leads with is possibly the worst one on the album. The other songs don't seem to be built with being as catchy in mind, more so they sound more thoughtful or heartfelt. While I didn't particularly like any songs, it wasn't as difficult of an album to get through as most others, it makes for great background noise.

Pleasant enough! File under ‘Easy Listening’. Album propped up by the singles, especially ‘Sloop John B’. ‘Wouldn’t it be Nice’ has been spoilt by being overplayed on TV adverts recently but still a good tube. A mid-table 2 out of 5

Too many weird random noises

more like fart sounds

Really a 2.5 out of 5. The vocal-harmonies are just kinda off putting to me, but I understand that Good Vibrations is one of the most innovative Pop songs.

Not great

The more I’ve tried to like Pet Sounds over the years, the more I don’t get it. It’s aggressively okay?

reminds me of the james patterson book, treasure hunters. i find it remarkable despite having not heard the song when i read it. i lied this is boring

A beloved album that I've tried a few times now to come around to (the attempts have typically been 5-10 years apart) and I just can't get into it the way so many do. I feel like I can academically understand why it is so beloved and how groundbreaking it was but in the end, I'm just not feeling it. I do love "Sloop John B" though.

Had verwacht dat ik dit nicer zou vinden. Iets te zoetsappig allemaal

I found this a bit brash with a hint of twee

I would play this at the nursing home Luau themed brunch. No track highlights.

Just too slow and soft for me

Love the BBs but this just doesn’t live up.

mikä vittu siinä on niin ihmeellistä?? emotional lyrical content ööö ok?? emotional? mitä vittau se tarkottaa... on joo mutta ei mitään erikoista samaa vitun valkoista westoid lyriikkaa kun aina..the most progressive pop album ever, ehkö 1956 olisi... no ehkö poppia mutta ok? rima ei ole vittu korkea tuolle tittelille. Luscious sounds but was hard getting through it. I can understand it’s importance in its time but not sure I agree with the monumental place it holds in pop music. Of course God Only Knows is the big exception. It’s timeless and an amazing feat of musicality and lyrics. Didn’t realize the Beatles’ animal sounds at the end of Good Morning, Good Morning is basically a rip off of Pet Sounds.

Felt a bit like a chore to get through, even at under 40 minutes.

Too many songs that don't go anywhere for me

For me, the very definition of overrated. Is it a classic? Yes. Is it essential listening? Yes. But did I enjoy listening? No. Lots of Mid Tempo tracks, and Brian's voice isn't great.

Not a Beach Boys fan

For the life of me I don't get what the big deal is with this album. Yeah, ok, those were innovative recording techniques for 1966. They layered a lot of instruments and there's a theremin in there, yay! Give me Phil Spector's wall of sound any day if the goal is to stuff an entire horn orchestra on a track. For me the songs just drag on and on with the same mid to low tempo, same vocal lines and harmonies. No power, no real groove. The entire sound is really dated. It's not bad, it's just ...meh. But I guess it should deserve some credit since (for some reason) it influenced every musician alive at that time. If McCartney felt inspired and wanted to out do himself because of Pet Sounds, then I guess it does deserves some credit. We got Sgt Pepper and Abbey Road out of this, so no a bad deal. Favorite track: Sloop John B

Unpleasant surprise for me. I never listened to any The Beach Boys album as a whole and I expected this to be full of the upbeat, fun, juicy music I know from any hits collection. But most of it seemed so dull, I felt "fun" feelings being sucked out of me if anything and I expected the exact opposite.

You know, I gave it a go but it's not for me. Melodic in its way but quite samey, his voice often grates, the close harmonies are uninteresting perhaps because they've been so pervasive. It feel brainless, simple and a little one dimensional to me. The Beatles loved them and I really like the song Don't Worry Baby from a different album but this is the third or fourth time I've tried this album and I simply don't care.

Find it annoying and overrated

I don't get the Beach Boys. Yes this is better than (not as terrible as) Kokomo, but it still seems sentimental, twee and juvenile to me, with an undercurrent of incel self-absorption. Yes, God Only Knows is a pretty good song, but it doesn't get this album over the line for me. Comparisons with any Beatles album are ludicrous.

Solo me gustó el único tema que conocía de antemano, y creo que me gusta más cantado por Pedro Aznar

Not exactly what I thought of for a beach boy album. Very relaxed and laid back

I like The Beach Boys as much as I like The Beatles

Wow! Harmonies!! So cool!!! Bored High 2

I feel they are some sort of institution that I should like but are just a singles band to me

really underwhelmed by this one to be honest. one or two really nice songs but mostly not that great

Från ett musikaliskt perspektiv förtjänar albumet ett högre betyg

Yeah nah. Not a beach boys fan

Kind of a slow album. Not much continuity from song to song. Without the well known Beach Boys hits “Wouldn’t it be nice” and “God only knows” the album is pretty mediocre.

in the words of flavor flav; 'Don't believe the hype'. i just don't get why this was supposed to be such an influential album.

Well. It's classic album. But I can't see why, it's.... niceish, in a cheeey way. Harmony is pleasant, if sometimes a bit over the top. Perhaps you had to be there. I really was expecting something more compelling.

too american for me

Pliisua menoa. Hittibiisitkin pääsee tasolle ihan ok joten ei asiaa tällaisille listoille, kiitos.

Ekan biisin jälkeen lopahti ja nopeesti teki mieli vaihtaa levyä

There was only one song that I have heard previously of in the entire album of course it was 'Wouldn't it Be Nice'. Other than that, the album was a delve into the sound of the 60s pioneering new sounds and instruments used for rock at the time including bicycle bells, French horn, flutes, Electro-Theremin, string sections, and beverage cans. Overall an ok album but not as good as the hype that I have heard surround this record. Best: Wouldn't It Be Nice Worst: Sloop John B 2.5 Stars

Wouldn't it be nice: ihan menevä, ei huono

Pretty okayish... Liked Sloop John B - so far after listening to 10 songs. Let's see how this goes.

First time listen, and I am really shocked all the indie people love this album so much! It’s talked about in the same breath as the White Album. I expected something really different based on the hype. California falsetto harmony/layered singing brass surf pop, and that falsetto harmony/layered brass surf pop thing doesn’t spark joy for me. Listened twice just in case I was missing something.

Yes, there are some famous songs there, but now I know why you don’t get to hear the other songs

Well, it started out great... and something weird happened at the end of I'm waiting for the day...

Starts out nice and peppy. What you expect the BB to sound like. But then kinda drones on and gets monotonous.

I think if Dylan, the Beatles and the stones created the rock/pop sounds from the 60s to now, the Beach Boys were the last gasp of the proto rock. Falsetto voices, harmony, nothing getting out of first gear. It's well performed and exceptionally well recorded, but it's just not my jam. I suppose it's better than ZZ Top and bovine Jovi and whatever else rock turned into.

I’ve never understood why this is such a revered album. Aside from “Wouldn’t It Be Nice” and “God Only Knows” this album is a snooze fest. Give me the version of The Beach Boys that’s all about girls, surfing and fun.

This would be better if I didn't A. hate The Beach Boys and B. Hate the singers voice. Some of the instrumentals are good though

I am starting to see a pattern in these picks. Obviously, the albums in their entirety are not seen as the "need to listen to", but specific songs that have been influencial in general. This is a nice album for easy listening, but it isn't my go to, and I probably won't listen to it in it's entirety again. Sorry to Beach Boys fans! :P

I’m bored. God Only Knows is the only redeeming song.

What a vapid album. I've heard it's supposed to be really good, but I've listened a few times over my life and I still don't get it. I listened again several times and it's even worse than I remembered since I looked at the lyrics. Take a song like I know there's an answer. We're dealing with safe spaces and people getting in bubbles worse than ever today and you think he's going to have an answer, but he has no fucking answer. It's so unsatisfying. All these songs are boy-girl love songs and it just stinks. The only thing keeping it from 1 star is that the instrumentals can be good. Most of the time, it's pretty plain jane. It's basically like stupid beatles. It's fake progressive - progressive for people who wear boat shoes. NEXT.

nice lyrics, but a bit off to me

Litt for slapt - langt mellom bangerne

Volumes have been written about this album, it’s production and orchestration, the 60+ musicians, all the firsts. I’ve listened to it a couple of times over the last few years and I think I've watched more than one documentary that looked at the “making of”. I was never too crazy about the Beach Boys surf pop sound. It was a style that got discarded quickly as the 60s progressed and despite this lavish production, I'm still hearing that style, albeit a more sophisticated version of it.

Uhhhhhhh.. I don't really get the hype, kinda Sounded like early Beatles covered in Saran wrap. I know they were influential but man it felt like Mr Rogers made a record

I've read the glowing reviews and I've listened to this 3-4 times now thinking huh, WTF am I missing? But I still don't get it. I suppose it was highly innovative for its time but I just don't like the glorious harmonies, corny arrangements and sappy lyrics. Many others give it a 5 calling it a masterpiece but this is not Sgt Pepper, DSOTM or Ziggy Stardust. I give it a 1, +1 for its production values.

Lots of harmonies, a bathe by echos. Not my scene.

The beach boys have a couple good songs but the album gets annoying with a lot of unneccessary vocalizing

wouldn't it be nice..

I was expecting something way more ground breaking. It was ok

Dont wanna

awful.

I'm sorry; I know this album is super important, but I have to be honest with myself and admit this did absolutely nothing for me.

I am not a Beach Boys fan at all. I find the singing to be whiney and the songs drone on and on. I rate this a 1. Would not listen again.

I have no idea what koolaid everyone is drinkin. This is one of the worst, most over rated albums of all time. From the first awful sounding note to the terrible, off key vocals and harmonies. It’s like a 10 year old wrote this (not a Mozart). Way too much falsetto (not good either). The lyrics are childish and not deep at all. And arrangements are like nails on a chalk board. I seriously do not get this. The only song that I can listen to all the way through is Sloop. But there’s like 7 boring songs before it. And the album cover is terrible too!

Wouldn't it be nice if I never had to listen to this bullshit again? Yes

Ещё парочка альбомов поп музыки 50-60х и я дропаю этот челлендж.

Oh please God no!

didn't listen

Nope, nope and nope again

Not really my thing

Absolutely boring and generic. Did not like it at all. 1/5

I cannot stand the beach boys

Not for me...

Not my type of music, didn’t love the preppy nature

Dreadful. Overrated.

Supposed to be great, I really don't like it.

This does nothing for me Not technically bad, just boring

Just bury it in the sand.

I really wanted to like this. The album sounds a bit bland and repetitive. Some of the lyrics are very nice tho. Like “Caroline, No”. But I can see why it’s a classic.

Meh, Wouldn't It Be Nice is a banger but the rest I listened to was pretty irritating

Hear is a record that I have never listened to (stop groaning) and I see previous review on beach boys i just don't get them. But in the spirit uof the list (and to appease everyone else in the world who loves this record) i will give it a good listen Nope still don't get it 😕

i knew that i'd would probably hate them, i only underestimated the amount...

I knew going in the Beach Boys really wasn't for me, and this just confirmed that for me 👍🏻

One or two good ones but very new to me. Felt like listening tos tuff that’s probably classic/overplayed

I really find it odd how much beach boys are on this list. It just seems so lame. There are far worse things on this list, but I can at least see why someone would have opted for it. But The Beach Boys? I guess if there was one beach boys album that should make the cut it would be this one. And hopefully this is the last. I’m not willing to grade on a curve for this one though. This was painfully boring, and just not that good.

I will never understand the appeal of the Beach Boys. I tried. JFC, "Sloop John B" has got to be the worst song ever recorded.

Never understood the critical popularity of this album. Perhaps you had to be there? I was a BB fan during the 60s based on their radio hits but never owned any of their studio albums.

Didn't like it then, and I don't now.

I have never understood Pet Sounds being in the same conversation with The White Album or Exile on Main Street. IT truly feels like America looking at the music of the world at that time and going 'we got nothing'. Not to say that the US doesn't have great artists. But so many are 'Artists' not bands. The bands all felt derivative of something that already happened in England. I'd say the greatest American band of all time is the Grateful Dead. Unique, uncompromising, a touring extravaganza. Yet they never seem to be mentioned in the same way The Beatles or Stones are, just The Beach Boys.

Interestingly I got this the day after Brian Wilson passed. RIP. I've reviewed a couple of their albums from this list already, one got a 2 star and the other a 3. I just can't stand the vocals mostly. The "ooooh oooohs, "aaaah aaaahhhAAAAAAs", "ooooh eeeees" and high pitched shrieking are too much. It's almost comical. Like I said in a previous review, I can appreciate they were the most revered boy band and the girls went limp listening to them, but their music needs to stay where it was, it has no place in the modern world.

Timely suggestion, but still shit

Not my thing sorry

sounds weirdly christmas-y

Oh fuck off 1001. No sooner does one of them die, then this comes up the very next day. Anyone else get this. Sweet sugary shit.

no me gusto, sonidos demasiado saturados, simplemente no me gusto

0/10. Hated it. One of the worst albums I’ve ever heard

Fuck these spoiled brats

Stale bread in the form of music. Fuck off.

Bukvalno isto kao onaj beatles album samo kao da je malo više namijenjen odrasloj publici. Ništa bolji ni gori. Mrzim ovakvu muziku.

Heard it before 2 times and the 3rd time now hasn't changed how I feel about it. I might get stoned for this opinion but I just don't get this album at all. I don't hear what's so supposedly groundbreaking about it. Maybe 2 songs on the album are enjoyable on their own 1/5

scares me

can’t stand them

Jeuk. Jeuk. Jeuk. Het begint gelijk met Wouldn't it be nice...Sta je al op -5 sterren. Wat is dit album verder een lege huls zeg. De andere hit is het enige nummer met body.

The Beach Boys have never been on my list of must listen to bands Even though Pet Sounds is lauded as a turning point for the band and their style it still feels lyrically challenged in the main while musically attempting to be more mature than they can pull off.

Music by and for limp wristed latent homosexual frat boys. The overtones of bestiality on the album cover are also a bit much.

So I get that this was incredibly technically innovative for it's time, pushing the limits of the multitrack recording technology of the day. But nothing really stands out on it. At least not for me. Of course, this album was released 27 years before I was born and, even at that, the Beach *Boys* were Beach Men at this point and the music reflected that. Pedantry regarding the naming aside, this isn't my jam and that wouldn't change if it had been released under a different name or by a different band. I'm glad it exists because I understand it's place in modern pop music history and I'm glad it demonstrated that a modern studio held far more potential for unique art than had been previously illustrated. But I'm also glad I'm finished listening to it.

caroline.... no

Outdated! The Beach Boys always sounded too “sweet to me”.

I realise this is meant to be a masterpiece of an album, but I'm not getting it. I grew up with my parents playing a few of these songs and that's probably where this album should stay, in the past

Yep, it’s still overrated. Would have been better to release a single of Wouldn’t it be nice with SloopJohn B as the B side.

I hate this album. Listening again did not change my opinion.

OVERPLAYED as badly as the Beatles, I find no joy in listening to these guys anymore. 1 Star.

Nope... still hate the Beach Boys.

Surfs up duuude Shit album cover award

This sounds like what heavens gate was listening to when they ascended. Let me go home... Where I won't be listening to this album. Ever. Couldn't finish

I can't. I couldn't finish it. I just don't like this style of music.

I don‘t know why, but I don‘t like the Beach Boys. Perhaps there was a time, I heard too much of them.

Wouldn't It Be Nice is obvi classic. Let's Go Away For A While and Pet Sounds would've been far better with some singing. I Just Wasn't Made For These Times is pretty good. Sloop John B isn't as good as we thought. The things I found interesting in the songs just didn't seem fully baked. I've tried listening to this album a few times and I always found it kinda boring and samey even for 60s music. I really don't see why this is considered a GOAT. I guess it's kind of romantic/dreamy? idk. Not for me. I guess this is a new Hot Take for me: Pet Sounds as a whole sucks. 1/5

Hard no.

not for me

While I can’t say this is an objectively bad album, it certainly isn’t something that captured my attention in anyway.

Tired. Over it. Cannot stand 5 mins. Must be just me!

Sounds like blissful ignorance

God I can't stand the vocals, at least the songs are short. Cheesy sappy 60's songs about love are not my favorite at all.

Can’t stand The Beach Boys. Schmaltzy, thin-sounding crap.

Not for me

Riding that echo hard...

Not for me. Derivative of Beatles

blech. a victim of their own success.

not the biggest fan. Felt like I was listening to church boys singing nervously on the beach. nothin real po e t ic about it. Loled at the horn in the 2nd song.

Beach Boys fans are going to hate you if you don't like this album but you have to be a Beach Boys fan to care about anything here. If you e been in a grocery store in the last 30 years you've heard Wouldn't It Be Nice. That's pretty much the album just never meeting the catchiness of that track.

Fuck the beach boys jesus

Hvis man kan lide Beach Boys, så er det ok.

-Move (drum solos) -Jeru (easy listening) -Godchild (trumpet) and really the whole thing
