Reviews (page 14 of 15)

A few songs that hit me sentimentally, but otherwise I feel this is overhyped.

general feel good album music wise well made and all but not really my cup of tea

The production and harmonies and instrumentals are splendid. Not quite the transformative experience that many people have when listening to this album but it’s perfectly lovely background music.

Perfectly nice.

Well, here's another where a second review by the same artist is prompting a nearly identical review from me. With all respect to those folks who admire this band, I fail to understand what it is that makes this group so beloved. The harmonies, for sure, are impressive. But it ends there for me. Lyrically, there are moments of cringe that pop up all over the place (I mean, is "Caroline No" a lament over a "once-cute" girl who has found feminism?). The adolescent themes just keep coming. And it seems like the height of laziness to fade out of 70% of the songs in the middle of a chorus, but that seems to be the formula of the moment on this one. Again (as in my last Beach Boys review) I'm hovering between a 2 and a 3. Last time I went with a two, so I guess I'll split the difference. But that's feeling generous...

I just wasn’t made for these tunes. I mean Wouldn’t it Be Nice and God Only Knows are really good songs. A number of other good songs on the album too. But I’ve never understood the reverence people (Scott et al) have for this. I remember it carrying some mythical weight when folks would talk about “Pet Sounds”. This is the before Internet times … and when I finally saw the album cover and heard it , I thought it was a joke. Like I really thought oh it must be some Sgt Pepper type of musical experience. Some nice songs with some guys playing with goats on the cover.

Album was a classsic and even added a few songs to playlists

Correcto. Un poco rollete.

I think the Beach Boys are nice but mostly their more popular songs idk if everything is something for me but still GREAT band

Liked #1 Wouldn't It Be Nice, #9 I Know There's An Answer, and #14 Hang On To Your Ego.

Of course you had a bad trip. What were you thinking giving a boat a man's name?

The opening chords for Wouldn't It Be Nice are joyous. The album then loses the urgency for me. I've never understood why Pet Sounds is held up in such high esteem. It's good, but not great. Maybe the context of listening to it for the first time in 1966 added to the elevation. The singles so strong leading you to expect the rest of the album will follow a similar path. The songs get lost in studio experimentation. Style, substance etc.

it was fine, a solid 3/5. very joyful, and joyful in a way that i think others would agree upon

I can see why this album is talked about in such high regard; but it's just not my cup of tea

Not a big fan. But has few very good songs.

Okay, gotta say it; I don't get the hype. It's a good album! Every song sounds great, but the songs themselves just aren't that interesting, in lyrical or musical depth. I'm sure I'm missing something here, since this is supposed to be one of the best albums ever. Maybe it's the historical context? Cultural significance? Not sure, but I expected this album to be much, much better than it was.

Very joyful and upbeat sunny day :)

Was sorely disappointed with the lack of woofs, purrs, chirps, growls, barks, bleets and hisses on here. Meow the Jewels remains the superior Pet Sounds album. Three disgruntled kitties out of five. 😾😾😾

Skimmed this

Minus a couple songs (including God Only Knows) i was just waiting for the album to finish. I feel like it's a good album but the style of music just wasn't working for me for some reason. A little disappointing considering I have a couple friends that would live and die on this album.

Every year or so I try to "get" the Beach Boys and I never do. Is it just because this is what Boomers heard when they were in their tweens? Like it unlocked something for them? Great harmonies and I'm glad they've stopped singing about the fucking beach, but Jesus Christ they're still going with Sloops and all that shit...

Wouldn't it be nice is a song I've heard plenty of times before but all the rest were fresh to me. Unfortunately none of them had the sticking power in my brain besides that first one.

Heralded as the greatest pop album of all time by music nerds alike, The Beach Boys pushed the industry as a whole in terms of production and songwriting while still appealing to masses. Many will attribute this success to Brian Wilson, but I won't say anything with full certainty. The truth is that I think the Beach Boys are still a little corny, a little plain, a little passé. It does not stir any strong emotions in me other than "yes, this is nice". My favorite parts are the instrumentals, especially the title track Pet Sounds which plays around a lot for some interesting music.

Sorry it’s not that good. Probably the most overrated album on this list. It is not a patch on sgt peppers or a dozen albums from late sixties Cover art : 1/5

Destancan Wouldn't It Be Nice, God Only Knows y a mi gusto I´m Waiting For The Day. 2.5 estrellas que deberían quedarse ahí porque no tiene elementos ni para subir ni para bajar.

This album tops the charts all the time as one of the greatest albums of all time. Really? Music hasn't surpassed this in nearly 60 years? It's fine. But to me the Beach Boys is about as vanilla as it gets.

I don't see how this compares to Sargent peppers! still a very enjoyable and happy album to make you feel like you're in a television advert

Slightly boring

Probably very controversial

There are some great songs on here. God Only Knows has always been a favorite. I do get a little tired of Brian Wilson's whiny-sounding voice after a while. Sorry Brian, you are fabulous but I can only handle it for a while! I bought this album because it is so highly regarded and I was surprised to find I could not get into it that much. I am thinking that I would have viewed it differently if first heard the year it was released. It would have sounded quite different than the other pop music at the time. I can see how it became such an influential piece of work.

Okay. Lots of old classics that trigger nostalgia, but not really my favorite style of music.

Great return to form with the pivotal return and influence of John Frusciante being no coincidence in making this their greatest album to date. Full of recognisable tracks that combine to make one of the greatest albums of all time in my opinion

I think Beach Boys is a little too saccharine and un-ironic for me. Didn’t make it through the album. Had to go listen to The Else by TMBG instead. I’ll try and give it another shot sometime when I’m in a more generous headspace.

Pretty cool. I like the sound of the BB

I'm as surprised as anyone that it's made it on to my albums list.

Good album but nothing special for me personally. Some solid well known tracks and obviously it's iconic band but yea

Listened to a few songs. The ones I knew I liked but in general I do not care for their sound.

Some great songs. Sloop John B has been a favorite of mine for years.

Beach Boys are always a pleasant listen, even if nothing is particularly whizbang. "God Only Knows" is a great song, while the rest just remain middle of the road to me

I've never really got into The Beach Boys that much. There isn't a lot of variation between songs. Wouldn't It Be Nice, God Only Knows are classic songs and I liked Sloop John B. All in all it's a good album but there isn't enough variation to keep me interested for the entire album.

3/5 somewhat good but boring

Not Sure where this adulation comes from. Its OK at best

Seems overhyped to me.

Góð lög: Wouldn't it be nice Wasn't made for these times - bad ókei lög, en ekki neitt að deyja yfir, góður banger í byrjun samt augl.

Overproduced - I know it was meant to sound like this and was groundbreaking, but I’d love to hear a stripped down version of this that avoids Spector’s wall.

Catchy. Enjoyable.

I know this is considered one of the greatest albums but try as I might it really doesn't resonate with me. I like the hits but it seems a bit samey in-between and although I appreciate how it's influenced others this is really about American history and i'm more interested in other genres (Punk and New Wave).

I've never understood all the fuss about the Beach Boys and in particular this album. 'God Only Knows' is a beautiful song but the rests are just OK. Nothing special.

I just don't get it, but I know people love them.

I see the charm but still...it still feels like an album that lots of people like because they have been told that it is a likeable album. I don't feel that it holds enough – whether in the context of its release, or retrospectively – to justify its mythological status. But that may just be me. (cc. Dylan)

Not as good as I was hoping. I think it should be a 4 but I know I'll never listen to it again so getting a 3

Right, how are we rating albums? Is it influential? Does it have bangers? Is there too much filler? Why is the same song on there twice? Would you listen to it again? I still feel the same about it as I did as a teenager - some absolute tunes, but still feels like a lot of filler…

One of the most overrated albums of all times, boring

God only knows is a wonderful song. The rest doesn't annoy me but it doesn't grab me either.

Best mooi album overigens.

I'm nearly 31 and have no idea whether I like the beach boys or whether I think they are dog shit. I'm not sure I will ever know.

A classic.

I have tried to get into this album many many times, I mean, it is the album that put the Beatles into SPLHCB way and one of the greatest songs and all that but I just can’t, it’s kinda silly to me, I love wouldn’t it be nice but I’m not very fond of the rest of the record, sounds very dated and yeah, silly to me. Really sorry about this one.

Ah, I found it a bit boring.

Some clear high points, lots of meh

Very very 80s! Some enjoyable.

Heard this album many times. It has some great classics the rest of the songs are fine. For me it's just a 3/5. Standouts: Wouldn't it Be Nice, Sloop John B, God Only Knows,

never been a big fan but I understand people love them

11th October 2021 Listened while at the supermarket and cleaning up the flat before coming home for the week for the literature festival. I prefer the more upbeat beach boys and this wasn't what I was expecting of the full album but I can certainly understand how progressive it was.

Totally get why this is on the list, not really my thing. Grew up with dad playing it so I know heaps of the songs. Family just asked why I was playing the Cadbury song. Sigh. God Only Knows is a work of genius.

i liked- HOLY SHIT THE ALBUM IS GOATS HAHAHAHAHAHAHA anyways, i like Let's Go Away for Awhile instrumental parts are nice

I know its a classic but I didn't really connect with it.

It was pretty good. Recognized a lotta the songs, just.. yeah.

1966. Wouldn't It Be Nice, God Only Knows

Strong start to the album with some of the more recognizable songs, followed up with a surprisingly more orchestral, slow, and melodious ending.

I think it's overrated, to be honest. Wouldn't It Be Nice is a phenomenal opener, but I don't think the rest of the album lives up to the tone it sets. Not to say I didn't love the songs I saved and overall had a very enjoyable listening experience, but I don't feel like it endures in the way that other monumental albums in this list do. Instrumentation and harmonies are beautiful, but the lyrics are so damn flat sometimes. Not gonna let the hype surrounding this one pull it up Saved: Wouldn't It Be Nice, Sloop John B, God Only Knows*

So, this is the definitive pop album of all time? There are clearly the bangers: sloop john b, wouldn't it be nice and god only knows that stand out. but honestly, that's really it. everything else seems nice, but not catchy. it's the equivalent if it was a song of verses, but no chorus. it sounds nice, but it doesn't really end up being very catchy for me.

Decent album, very bright and sunshine great intro in “wouldn’t it be nice “.. 6/10 overall kinda was not my vibe at that moment. Will def revisit

Really good harmonies. I also like the percussion. I can't really see myself going to listen to anything again, except for God Only Knows, that song is amazing. Here Today is also good, I love its use of brass. Overall good album.

1) Wouldn't It Be Nice - Classic! Heard this one before for sure. Definite montage song, and as their band name suggests, one you blast at the beach. Love it. 2) You Still Believe In Me: Slow song. Not my favorite. 3) That's Not Me: Positive vibes. It's alright. 4) Don't Talk (Put Your Head On My Shoulder): Slow, crooning song again. I LOVE the orchestra in this song. 5) I'm Waiting for the Day: Upbeat!! Catchy beat and breakdown. Orchestra bangs again at the end! LOVE THE ENDING OF THIS SONG. 6) Let's Go Away For A While: Okay the orchestra up to this point has been captivating me. God the instrumentals on this one is awesome! THE PIZZICATO!!! ONE OF MY FAV TRACKS RN. 7) Sloop John B: Tells a story. 8) God Only Knows: Another classic one!! 9) I Know There's An Answer: Cool bassline. 10) Here Today: OK 11) I Just Wasn't Made For These Times: I like the vocals on this one. 12) Pet Sounds: Instrumentals caught me off guard haha. Actual pet sounds??? LOL. 13) Caroline, No: Slow song. 14) Hang On To Your Ego: I like the lyrics.

I'm not in love with this album like a lot of people are. I think its fairly interesting but more so as a point in music history as opposed to good in and of itself

Overall a weird album. Didn’t love most of the songs. Feels like everything’s been slowed down, like maybe this is what the world feels like when you’re on tranquilizers (which I suppose they were when they recorded this).

This is a good album. It has some classics. The other songs are ok.

Listened to this album for the first time a few years ago and loved it. It's still a joy to hear.

it's a solid record with interesting sounds, particularly for it's time, but the sound just doesn't speak to me like other sounds do. this is perhaps due to it having been incorporated into so many other works which were inspired by it that i've heard over the years that it's brilliance is sort of lost on me. i got dylan's blonde on blonde the day before this one and i gave it a 4/5; i liked listening to blonde on blonde at least a full star more than pet sounds, thus the 3/5. favorite track: Hold on to your ego.

I can appreciate the production and how it influenced a lot of artists I love, but the Beach Boys just don't do it for me.

From when it was all still simple songs with easy meanings....what a great time.

not really my style

cool reminders

Like other Beach Boys albums I struggle to understand why it is quite so highly regarded. There are some really strong tracks on here without doubt but there are others I’ll want to skip. Overall a good album that I can enjoy and appreciate but not an album that I can love.

Forward thinking in many ways but still of its time. Can't get past a three.

Yes yes god only knows is a beautiful song, yes it has some lovely moments but this album is most certainly over rated.

Good album and fun listen

Eigenlijk echt nog mooi, vooral als achtergrondmuziek

Bought on 2nd hand vinyl with one of my first paper round wages. Side 2 is the standout, every song being a classic. I find side 1 more of a challenge after the opening 2 songs. 3/5

Wouldn't it be nice

Classic Beach Boys/60s sounds. God Only Knows and Wouldn't It be Nice are the best tracks on the album. 6/10.

I didn’t not like it.

Oldies

top tier Sea Shanty song

Sacrilege alert, but I just don't like The Beach Boys at all. It all sounds so cheesy to me. I get the music production and "wall of sound" history of the album, and for what it's doing in 1968 it's quite forward but... as a listening piece it does absolutely nothing for me. I would give it a 3* just for the techniques heh...

A side clearly sappy and for the gals, pretty antiquated stuff that fuels the whole nostalgia psychosis.

I like some of the songs, but not really my jam.

Classic beach boys. Was ok

Quite dated, if this was a first listen I would be underwhelmed. I have nostalgia and that holds up but outside of that little is brought to the table. Here Today is a banger though.

Sehr fröhlich und positiv! Einen Touch zu viel. Musik ist aber okay. Kann man hören. Muss man aber nicht. Werd ich auch nicht nochmal.

Some great fun songs. A couple with to much theremin.

not big fan of surf-rock because it feels kinda cheesy and repetitive at points. however this album has amazing songs and proves that surf-rock and surfing in general can be more than meets the eye. 6/10

Classic but beach Boys is the candy of music. Only a few and once in awhile

Makes the granddads go crazy

Rating may be affected by the setting of first listen, and sound quality (makes it sound very dated). Enjoyable, I'd throw this on at a beach in DR for sure. No particular standout track.

Not THAT bad for a bunch of kmart jingles and then the shit that was too forgettable even for that

An album that manages to do what the White Album wasn't able to do in the same 60s era. The album is a good viewpoint into what makes beach/surf rock such a trend back in the day withe groovy instrumentals, melodic singing that comes off almost as a faded memory, and a vast range in different tools and instruments being used across the tracks. Many of the vibes I was able to follow along with and can see the major influence on pop-rock, but it's another set of tracks I could put in the background and not feel like I didn't miss anything vital. The album may not be my cup of tea but nowhere near bad.

I love me some Beach Boys, but a whole album is a bit much

I know this was new and interesting at some point but I’m not sure it holds up. Lyrics are simple and juvenile

A parte would'n it be nice che avevo sentito su fallout non mi é piaciuto un granche

Typical 60's music. Fun to listen but no masterpiece

not really my style, but a couple of songs are great and romantic

Another wildly overrated album that's always inexplicably at the top of the all time great lists. Brian Wilson is a composer applying his talents to pop, and it's more complicated (and thus impressive?) than when just regular guitar guys write/arrange songs. Ok, it represents a significant shift in the Beach Boys sound, from bubblegum surf pop about cruising to the burger stand with your best girl (actually pretty good) to something more mature with lush orchestral arrangements and more staid songwriting. But so what? Who cares? There are some great hooks and harmonies, but it's mostly boring, schmaltzy, and overworked. I guess it represents a milestone in the adoption of emergent studio/recording/production technologies in pop. Ok, fine. I guess it's influential and inspired a whole bunch of other 60s bands to try their hand at bloated concept albums - great, thanks guys.

Loved the hits

This album wasn't really for me, but music is subjective and everyone connects with it differently. While I didn't enjoy it personally, it has its own style and appeal that others might appreciate. Give it a listen and decide for yourself.

I really can't stand the cloying harmonies of the Beach Boys. That said, Wouldn't It Be Nice is a great song. You can keep the rest.

He tenido que saltar varias canciones.

Eh. Not my style but I see that appeal.

Not my thing

I can understand why it's well regarded, but just not for me. I love Sloop John B though.

Not a beach boys fan. I gave it 2 because my dad loves tg m

Very of the time. Not really for me sound wise but I see why it's so significant.

This album did not grab me. It's 100% a vocal driven album, which will be the reason I wasnt fond of it. Don't get me wrong the vocals were good, I mean its The Beach Boys, and the harmonies were great, its just outside of the there was not really anything to interest me. I felt bored after 1 or 2 songs and couldnt differentiate any of the songs id listened to when the album had finished. Not for me at all.

safa qsy

Great opener, the rest was alright

Nah, no es lo mío

Something about this album has just never really clicked for me. I enjoy the occasional track but overall it feels pretty overrated and the fact people put them in the conversation with other 60s greats honestly baffles me.

Yawn. A few ok tracks, but overall this is a snooze fest for me. Sappy lyrics, basic music, good harmonies if that’s your thing. Not mine.

Dated and sounding really old and unnecessary. This wouldnt be made today. A nostalgia item only nowadays.

I understand that this album is very ambitious and influential, but that does not make me like it. It feels like getting dragged to some wacky amusement park that I am not in the mood for. It's creepy. There are a few okay songs ("Sloop John B" I guess), but overall I dreaded listening to this album again.

decent album i think. of course im not an actual judge or critic and english is not my first language. I think I enjoyed the later parts of the album. Album is not bad... its just not my type I guess. But i have only listened to this album once. as of now (8th april 2026), i did not hate this album but neither did i like it... its ok, i guess.

Mejores canciones para mi Sloop John b, that's not me y pet sounds.

Not as bad as old and boring.

I guess this is the best Beach Boys record? Honestly that’s a low bar to pass. Brian and Company never really could leave their original sound. As such this is underwhelming.

I dont think it would be nice. Optimistic California ain't it

very good!

Classic

Alright, nothing special bout it. First song is a classic though. Thanks to this I found out that American Pie is 8 minutes long. I fell asleep during this album

Talented but not my taste

I do not like this album. Some people rave about it; I can't stand it! Maybe one song is good - Wouldn't it Be Nice - but most of it just befuddles me in terms of appeal.

its alright but i dont think im a fan

I like The Beach Boys had a couple good songs, but not my favorite album

Not the usual cool bonfire beach noys

Wouldn't it be nice if they just stopped here.

The hits are good, but the album is repetitive and it’s hard to differentiate the songs from one another. Also, not a single sound of a per to be heard.

Man...would it be blasphemous to say I find the beach boys boring. When it comes to the sixties I prefer the Beatles. I havent listened to much else from the sixties though. Whatever it is, I've listened to two beach boys albums by now, and none of them really hit. 🤷🏻‍♀️

Not their best

I am the opposite of a Beach Boys fan. I'm a naf

First time hearing it and had higher expectations..

Not very diverse, most song have a very similar sound, easy listen, only a few songs I’d play again

Listens: 3 Standout Tracks: Wouldn't It Be Nice There's just something about the Beach Boys that doesn't sit right with me. This is their 11th album put out in a span of 4 years and, jesus, they are still singing about girls and relationships. There's virtually no variety. The subject matter just seems so... juvenile? I want to use the word prepubescent, but that's just makes the whole thing even more cringe-y. Wouldn't It Be Nice has the benefit of being especially catchy, but if you listen to the words, you might just want to jam forks into your ears. How old were these guys when they wrote this? I honestly think I asked the same exact rhetorical question on the last Beach Boys album that came up (The Beach Boys Today!); That album came out a whole 13 months before Pet Sounds. Also, "Pet Sounds"? y tho 2 Stars because these boys sure can harmony.

Possibly the most overrated album of all time.

I'm sure this would be a lot better if I was on acid but in the absence of that I did not enjoy it very much.

I don’t get the hype of this album. Wouldn’t it be nice is amazing but I just don’t care for the album as a whole.

die Spießer Beatles hahah das cover..c

This could be due to the fact that music has changed and evolved since 1966, but this only feels like muzak to me.

We owe a debt of gratitude for their pioneering use of the studio as an instrument. Unfortunately, they brought more drugs than good songs to the studio. God Only Knows and Wouldn’t It Be Nice are timeless, but the rest of the album is filler, and this band is still overrated.

Kao 2,5 ali posto nema ,5 biće 2 čisto jer sam beatles dala 3 a bolje je od ovoga; kao nije lose ima neke slatke onako prolorćne slične kao beatles pesme ali malo je dosadno… pesme koje su mi se svidele najviše: wouldn’t it be nice(zacudila sam se sto ostatak albuma nije ovakav), I’m waiting for the day, Let’s go away for awhile, sloop John b?, here today; overall isto me je začudilo zašto ljudi govore da je ovo predobar album kao What??? Ali ok

It’s a bit boring sorry

would rather have listened to the goats for 38 minutes. highly over rated imo

5/10 - too 60s but some good songs

I like the Beatles better. Weirdly Christmassy at points.

Maybe was influential, but its just boring and nothing special for me. Not a pleasurable listen. Sorry

boring af

Decent. 2/5

Its chill

Meh. It definitely sounds like the times but unfortunately, in a modern context, the sound is kind of flat. Sacrilege I know, this was ground breaking stuff for the time and I can appreciate it for that at least. Just not something I can listen to for long without getting bored.

Couple of bangers but will probably not be listening by again. Wanted to like this more than I did

What to give this album. It wasn't bad, but definitely not a genre I would actually search for. I'll say a 5

I appreciate that people really like this album but it's way to sweet and cutesy for my taste. Beach boys are just way too agreeable for me. Fun loving, happy times kinda music that I don't really love.

There are a few classics on here, but everything else just sounds like generic Beach Boys and I forgot about them before I finished listening to the album.

Obviously its got a couple all-time classic tracks on it, but overall this album is actually pretty boring. Apart from said classics, it's quite hard to really distinguish one track from another, it's all just the same beige music

Ok. Couple of great songs but wouldn’t listen to whole album

Liked the familiar songs, but in the end I got bored.

Wouldn't it be nice if this album was more interesting. Did not need to be 20+ tracks long

Still not a fan, even after a relisten.

I don’t get the hype

A high 2 but I didn’t really gel with this at all. I appreciate the contribution to music the beach boys made though

Too corny for me.

Not my thing

Its like important for pop music and stuff, but I just dont like it.

I really dislike the Beach Boys. Nice blazers, though. And that white goat looks like you could go on a proper goat-packing trip with it. It seems powerful and nimble-footed. I would have it carry all of my liquor and maybe a large sleeping pad so I could camp in luxury. The goat and I would probably be good friends. It might even become my pet. And any fucking sound it would or could make would be preferable to listening to this band or this album. +1 star for a couple of vaguely catchy tunes.

I thought I would like this album more. However, it feels tasteless and uninteresting, but, overall, pretentious. Some songs are nice, but the album doesn't favour them, and they are not as strong to actually make this album better than what it is.

I tried. I really tried. For years I've heard what a great album this is. Best in class. Groundbreaking. And after at least 5 whole tries over 20 years or more, I have to give up. This is just treacle. It's sappy and same-y throughout. Teenage boy lyrics and those annoying harmonies! So, now that I've dunked on it a bit, let me tell you that I'm an audiophile. I love so many types of music and I'll give anything a shot. So many times on this list I've said "While its not for me, I can understand why someone likes this." I guess that's true here too. It's def not for me AND I can see a lot of people liking cheesy teenager whiney/lovey songs. As for the technical aspects, the problem is just that I heard hundreds of albums with great production before I heard this and it just makes me shrug. But of course, I'm not a child of that era. At the time, it was groundbreaking. It's kind of liking loving cyberpunk as a genre and only reading Neuromancer after 100 other books. It's filled with stuff that everybody uses. "Yeah, but it started the whole fucking thing!" So, props to Brian Wilson for putting so much into it and hats off to you all that find it immersive and amazing. I won't be back for another round. I'm giving it a 2 here because in truth it's not horrible. I don't look at any one song and say, "That sucks!" It just all sounds about the same to me and it's not interesting,

Definitely not for me. I feel like this is an album that is a product of its time and doesn't live on very well unless you're a fan of the Beach Boys. Pass.

Yes, it's well produced. And yes, the arrangements are quite elaborate. But this is all too sweet, too much harmony, and the lyrics I really couldn't care less about. It's like the Beatles without the elements that actually made them interesting and groundbreaking.

Every track is the same.

God Only Knows is natuurlijk een absolute hit. 2 dus.

Kinda boring, kinda bland, kinda like a boiled potato

I've obviously never listened to the Beach Boys before. This was moodier than I was expecting. Less bubble-gum. I almost got through a couple of listens...feel like I need one more to make better sense of it. But I don't think another listen will make me like it any better. Not for me.

Genuinely so boring

Another failed attempt to like this album. Two (three if you're generous and include Sloop John B) decent tracks. The rest sounds like an Andy Williams Christmas special. Maybe that's the point. It influenced a lot of music and production at the time. But sadly we've all moved on.

Pretty sixties sounds with no impact.

I know I should like this but I find it really really boring Nostalgic dream pop and a mental breakdown associated with this album seem to be what is always said about this - I just don’t get it

Only like one song from the beech boys and we all know which one.

I guess I don’t get it

Bit boring this one. Wouldn't it be nice and God only knows were okay. The instrumentals were easy listening. Otherwise, kind of slow and didn't have as many cool vocals and harmonies as I thought they would have.

Very joyful, goofy music. Soft and happy songs about love and stuff idk didnt catch my attention that much, not a huge fan. 2/5

This is my 5th attempt at listening to this record. I can’t get into it

not really a fan. i know some of their more famous songs but idc for this album much

More melancholic than the last record. Life is not all party

Songs are good, but the album gets repetitive quick

Personally can't see how this is so highly rated.

A couple of really good tracks but the rest is meh.

Wouldnt it be Nice l'avevo già sentitaaa. You still believe in me, troppo natalizia. Boh 2 stelle, non il mio genere

Well I did not hear anything revolutionary or progressive about this album. It sounds like just another Beach Boys album to me!

God, I hate the Beach Boys!

I don't get the hype... it's fine

Easy listening, but didn't captivate me. Not quite a 3.

meh... alguna chula, pero sin más

Overhyped

Omg so boring

Generic album #46473.

Not a fan. I think Pet Sounds - sounds bad

I know. It's supposed to be an all time great. Hate it.

I really like the energy but the music wasnt great

I never understood why people love this album…

Booo. I hate this record and always have and will. It gets 2 stars bc of the musical legacy.

Tried to get into The Beach Boys, but can’t do it. I know this is considered one of the best of all time but “shrug”.

As someone who usually loves the Breach Boys for their surfy sound and beach vibes, this album caught me a little off guard. This album feels more emotional and less about surfboards. That's not to say it is a bad album- far from it. It just did have that classic Beach Boy itch.

Wouldn’t it be nice is a great song. Other than that, it was not my cup of tea.

Little outdated for me

Another beach boys album. A few big hits again. Just not something I’d choose to listen to today.

I just don't really care for The Beach Boys.

Seminal, ground-breaking, innovative, classic. So they say. I hear middling pop with an annoying vocal. Some was ok. Sorry, legions of Pet Sounds fans. I don’t get it.

This sounds like it would be playing nonstop in one of Dante's Cricles of Hell for some reason. 2/5

Oh my god, how about some space! There are always 5 things to listen to. There was a fricking honking horn? Why!?! Beach Boys are annoying. There, I said it. They're just a band. TwooooOOOOooo stars.

I just cant get into this album, it has some good songs, but i just dont see the appel to it, i know it was a big deal when it came out and i can acknowledge and appreciate that, but it hasnt clicked for me yet. Surfs up is the better album.

Mediocre Chamber Pop. Most well known song is the first one.

It’s good, of course… it tops so many lists. It’s not my favourite style of music but I can appreciate what it was for when it was made.

sorta just fine tbh

I just can’t get into this record. I recognize Brian Wilson’s achievement but I find it a little boring. It might be different if the lyrics weren’t about Middle America. Maybe. As a listener I’m also frustrated by the wall of sound effect.

Unfortunately I'm not in on the joke here. Everyone raves about this, describing it as iconic and groundbreaking. I don't get it.

point9.

Es enthält mit „Wouldn’t It Be Nice“, „God Only Knows“, „Sloop John B“, „Caroline, No“, „I Know There’s an Answer“ und den Instrumentals „Let’s Go Away for Awhile“ und dem Titelstück klangprägende Songs, die bis heute als stilbildend gelten.

God only knows is a beautiful song. I just dont really get the rest.

STEDMANS FLASHBACKS (sorry brian)

Didn’t know any of these songs but it was alright. Interesting to listen to

Not my vibe

I mean its alright. Not being of the time(1966), I can't really appreciate the advancement techniques done here to orchestration and vocalization. In my head some songs sound good, others okay and drag on for a little too long. Gets a 2.5 out of me.

old school harmonies. OK, but not very 'exciting'

Same as the other Beach Boys albums really, nothing offensive in there, but boring as fuck. I made it all the way through, so 2 stars.

It was aight not my vibe but it’s very clear it’s an old album which I enjoyed

Was alright but not really my thing

I have no doubt the Beach Boys made a huge impression on millions of teenagers around the World. That being said, I find myself moved by music from artists influenced by the Beach Boys more than the actual band. Pet Sounds is brought up as one of the landmark albums, but only two of those thirteen songs charted as hits. I enjoy "God Only Knows" better than anything else on this album. That's just me. Beautiful boring schlop

I haven't listened to The Beach Boys before, but I upon hearing the opening track, a wave of nostalgia washed over me and I was transported to a Cadbury commercial from the early 2000s. I guess, this is my first foray into the world of surf-rock and I definitely get dreamy acapella vibes from this project but not too much ocean imagery. The lead singer's voice reminds me of The Drums tbh. My favourite was 'That's Not Me'. I do think the music sounds kind of churchy though, too much organ use. I do like the title track a lot and thought it sounded like nothing on the album and actually thought a different album had started playing.

Not bad but not really my jam

I know this is a milestone in studio work, sound engineering and production, but as a pop record the music is nothing special at all. In fact I find it quite forgettable, most of the album just faded into the background as I listened.

Old head music

Pet Sounds was still having an impact in the early 70s. It’s the album that transformed The Beach Boys from a surf/hotrod themed barbershop quartet from SoCAL to something bigger. Wouldn’t It Be Nice, Sloop John B, and God Only Knows (and some of their earlier hits) were still getting radio play through the late 70s. Then everyone lost interest and they faded. Production value aside the album doesn’t hold up as well (and has less hits) than I remember. It comes in at (2.45*s) Did get some pet sounds at the end…

There's no denying the importance of The Beach Boys. I'm not the right person to discuss whether or not their music holds up 50+ years later but I know that it's a little too bubble-gum for me to enjoy in anything other than small doses. A song here or there is fun in the right scenario but I don't listen to the Beach Boys with any sincerity. They are icons for their influence in rock history and Pet Sounds is probably their most notable work but it didn't do much for me on this listen. It's a relic of a bygone era, and while important and deserving of this list its not something I plan to listen to again any time soon. 2.12 stars

I've never been a Beach Boys fan, but I tried to listen to this record, as I know of its importance and how it's always in someone's top 100. I got to track 4. Had to stop. Just not my thing.

Look I'm well aware this is sacrilege and it's so clear this was mindblowing and innovative in 1966 but I really just....do not like baroque pop. I like Sloop John B but that's about it.

Always felt like I'm missing something when I listen to this

While I like some of their songs, I'll never understand how they are so popular.

sugar cane Beatles aah pop

This album was boring. The Beach Boys are a boring band.

Couple good songs

Mainioita biisejä

It has one well-known song, and that's it. The album is very boring.

Some catchy tunes but mostly boring

I'm only listening to the stereo version and only rating that version. Great first song of course. The overall album is alright though. Pretty standard, run of the mill album.

it's ok.. not a huge beach boys fan though

Just doesn't grab me, decent pop tunes but not enough

It bored me. The fadeouts were especially repetitive

FIRST LISTEN - Vocals really didn't gel with me, and they stopped me from appreciating the instrumentals. Might have to listen again just for that. Standout tracks were LETS GO AWAY FOR A WHILE and PET SOUNDS, precisely because there were no vocals. These reminded me a lot of Masayoshi Takanaka, in that tropical summer dreamy vibe. Other than that, kinda meh for me. 2/5

Had no idea they did God Only Knows AND Wouldn’t It Be Nice. Other than that, I don’t give a shit.
