Reviews (page 11 of 15)

I've never been more disappointed in my whole life

It was fine - creative. Is it one of the best albums of all time like many say? I wouldn't agree with that

No estava malament, és a dir, a mi aquest rollo així més experimental no em va, però a nivell musical, si l’escoltes bé, hi ha coses xules

I think I like The Bends and am giving Radiohead too much credit for everything else. The title track is awful. They are close on some of these songs but this is a miss for me. This album sucks. Optimistic is good...it's like throwback Radiohead. There are diminishing returns on the weirdness. The back half is better than the first, but it's not that great. Motion Picture Soundtrack is better.

It’s alright.

Yesterday I didn't wake up sucking on lemons. I did listen to this album a couple times though. I liked it but don't really understand what all the fuss was about. Nice sounding and atmospheric for the most part.

couple of good songs. a lot of weird stuff too

Muito experimental, bom para ouvir enquanto se trabalha. Everything in its right place é um clássico e umas das músicas que mais oiço dos radiohead

I recall listening to this the first time, upon its release, and I was very disappointed. My views on it have mellowed slightly over the years, but not by much. I understand why they did this, but largely I find "Kid A" uninteresting. It's an album I have, but rarely listen to. When I do listen to it I find my attention waning. It's a cold, icy album. At times, it's the sonic equivalent of drifting in Space. It is a well produced and intimate album, so much so that it's as if they don't want you listening. It doesn't thrill like "OK Computer". Overall, a 3⭐ album. Would I listen to this album again? Yes, but the odd track and only every now and then. Would I buy this album? I did. 1. "Everything in Its Right Place" – 3 2. "Kid A" – 3 3. "The National Anthem" – 2 4. "How to Disappear Completely" – 4 5. "Treefingers" – 3 6. "Optimistic" – 3 7. "In Limbo" – 3 8. "Idioteque" – 3 9. "Morning Bell" – 3 10. "Motion Picture Soundtrack" – 3 11. "Untitled" - 3 Total - 33 Average - 3.00

Whilst this album may have been spectacular at the point of release, it’s simply not as impactful now. There’s too much hear that I’ve since heard other bands do the same or better. There’s some fantastic highs but a lot of really middling lows.

I will have to listen again when I’m in the mood for bummer music

I’m not as enamoured as many on this. For me it’s a bit where Radiohead started to be a little too meandering.

It was nice.

Radiohead is a tricky one for me because OK Computer is an all time favorite despite not actually knowing the full Radiohead discography very well. Everything else I listen to by them is just a random assortment of their songs I’ve heard over the years and added to my lineup without knowing which album they belong to. So coming into this I was excited to learn some more and really start identifying songs with specifics albums, aaaand it turns out I just really didn’t enjoy this and was ready for it to be over. I’m sure after a few more listens I’d find more to appreciate, but if felt more whiny and aimless than the Radiohead I love.

Menos las tres primeras canciones el resto si q me ha gustado. La intro del album buenisima. Me mola el contexto de porque se hizo el album pero tampoco creo que lo escuchara mucho por mi cuenta.

Off-putting vibes but in an intriguing and experimental way. Repetitive but felt like a sort of chant that drew me in. Cool production.

This is just noise, I really didn't like much of it

Usually like Radiohead but this one is definitely overrated

Radiohead heeft een vaagheidshoedje opgezet, want het zweeft allemaal behoorlijk het heelal in. Soms klinkt het wel aardig, maar vaak zwabbert het gewoon maar een eindje door zonder veel urgentie. 'How to disappear completely'? Nou, zo dus.

Oei, Radiohead... Kraftwerk en Jean-Michel Jarre bestaan he lieve mensen? Of vlak daarvoor nog; Aphex Twin. Maar goed, het album was prima. 3 sterren, ik hoor gewoon niet het baanbrekende dat sommigen hierin horen. FAVO: Everything in its right place, Treefinger

I've listened to this so many times. Love Radiohead but much prefer In Rainbows or OK Computer. They are coming into their own with this album and finding their style. Everyone has the whimsical noise reverb in the background now so this isn't so out of place. They soon start crushing it with the drums and math tempo vocals.

This is right at the moment when I lost interest in Radiohead. Like, literally the first track is so good and then it all changes and I've never been quite into any of their albums after this after wearing out my CD player with OK Computer, Pablo Honey, etc.

Demasiado experimental para mi gusto, pero es radiohead

Not my favourite Radiohead album but a bloody good listen all the same!

I am not typically a fan of Radiohead, and while I wouldn’t say this album made me one, it wasn’t bad. It was decent background music. I appreciated the chill on a Sunday morning.

Everything in its right place Idioteque

Electronic folk-y music, not bad. Chill vibes. 2.7

for me, it was fine. i'm not a huge radiohead fan and this didn't speak to me

better than the other album

I can't really put my finger on Kid A. It has its moments ("How to Disappear Completely", "Motion Picture Soundtrack"), but I can't help but consider it a bit of a letdown having just listened to OK Computer before it, and with that album being such a marked improvement over the likes of The Bends and Pablo Honey. Kid A might grow on me, but for now it sits "In Limbo" between like and dislike.

So much of this album feels like a trance album, but it's all real instruments. Even on their relative misses, Radiohead will still make their project interesting

This was not what I expected from Radiohead, the only record I had listened before this being The Bends and OK computer(also thru this system). Both of which not leaving me with too much of an impressed feeling, but I think I like this one a bit more, its more experimental and in terms of sound coherent yet all of the place, its quite unique, which I can respect, I'm still not blown away by these guys, but this was a step in the right direction for me. Favorite track: In Limbo. Overall score: 6,9/10

Прикол в том, что я только на середине альбома заметила, что это радиохэды. Ну такое...мне их стиль не особо, разве что если на фон или засыпать.

Everything In Its Right Place: STRONG start! What a song. Title track's pretty dull. The National Anthem: Kind of cool? Like the rock elements, but bit too busy and dissonant towards the end. How to Disappear Completely: Not great but gorgeous key change at 4:55. Treefingers: Enjoyable ambience that reminds me of Eno. Optimistic: Pretty good. The start reminds me of Lana Del Rey's Heroin. Idioteque: This and 15 Step were the first songs I knew by them; love 'em. Love how this blends into the next song. Morning Bell: Love the key changes on 'release me'. Motion Picture Soundtrack: Very sweet tune. Untitled: Kind of sounds like a slow version of a computer start up tune. Pretty but not a great album ender.

It was fine. Not my style but The National Anthem was fantastic. Really brought down the score of the entire album from the first two tracks which were very aimless. Not recommended as a first Radiohead album.

Ratings: 5: I will happily play this album anytime 4: I may occasionally play this album of my own free will 3: I will happily listen to this if someone plays it in the background 2: I will tolerate this if it is playing in the background 1: I will leave the room if someone plays this in the background Ah, as someone who considers OK Computer a damn near perfect album I still remember my disappointment when this was released. It's not a bad album by any means and I know it has received a lot of praise over the years which I understand....I just have difficulty connecting to the music in any meaningful level. There are a couple of exceptions: The simple bass and evolving drum groove in The National Anthem and the more straightforward Optimistic are highlights for me.

Listened to it on my phone speaker in the woods at 10 pm and thought it was boring as shit. Gave it one more shot on my headphones and it was better. A few boring songs brings it down but I liked the vibe

Honestly it wasn’t something I was crazy about. Few of the songs were good but idk just didn’t vibe with it

Didn’t have a ton of expectations going in, but this was a pretty solid album. Exited to hear the other Radiohead on the list, hopefully then I can make a more informed opinion on this album.

It was alright

Radiohead has way better

Not bad, though the vocals are kinda whiney and a lot of this is relatively boring. Several really good songs though, so that helps pull the score up to a 3.5/5

Better than Coldplay.

The first two tracks were lovely in a wallowing in my depression kind of way--actually--that's how the best of this album is, and it's pretty good. There are a few tracks where the sound gets a little dissonant (the Nat'l Anthem track in particular) but for the most part I enjoyed the sad reality.

Solid, just not my favorite Radiohead album

didn't expect another radiohead album so soon (fyi 13 days). they are geniuses at what they do for sure, but another mixed bag album similar to Amnesic, however at a higher quality for the highlights. so close to a 4

I had Amnesnic like two weeks ago, and this felt like the first part of that album. Fascinating music, just very unique and experimental but not in tune with the music I resonate with.

I can see the appeal for a certain mood but not for me. Makes me rather depressed

Not my favorite Radiohead album but a couple of bangers

Фоном слушается нормально, а так особо не прислушивался. Поставлю оценку, согласно общему впечатлению об этой группе - 6 из 10.

It's alright

Not one of their best

Not for me but not horrible

Cool shit periodically interrupted by spa music.

Solider unspektakulärer Britpop ohne Highlights.

Nothing to add

This one brings back memories. I did not really know what to think of it when it first came out and did not really like it. As I listened to it more though it grew on me. National Anthem and Optimistic are my favorites. Idioteque jams also.

I actually didn’t mind this one as much, but less stars because it seemed to stress my cat out

I love Radiohead so much, but this album is just a less good Pink Floyd album. Ok computer and the bends clears, so does in rainbows

Anxiety-inducing cacophanous sound. I thought this was going to be more along the lines of Coldplay, it was very unique, but not something I will listen to again most likely. 3/5.

The Good: We’ve got Radiohead! The Bad: They are too Radiohead… The Ugly: Wondering if a radio can give head… Like many people of my generation, I found out about Radiohead via the musings of those two intellectuals called Beavis and Butthead. Need I say more? My brother bought Pablo Honey, I bought OK Computer… Kid A was never part of the collection. Though I can’t pin-point the reason why neither of us had the album, based on my listening to the album, I would say that for me, it is too experimental; and I am finding out, via this 1001 list, that I am a down-the-middle kind of music person. I probably need to give this album another spin to really get a better grip as to what rating I should give it, but my gut feeling tells me that I am not going to appreciate it more than the 2 1/2 * I am giving them now… upgraded to 3

There are some good tracks here like Treefingers, Optimistic, and Idioteque, but I'm going to be honest, Thom Yorke's vocals bore me.

Wow, for all the acclaim for this album I was underwhelmed. A few of the tracks were engaging but most of the album left me cold.

I see this album as a necessary step in Radiohead's evolution, but I don't believe it represents the band at a pinnacle. There are amazing compositions on here, but there are also many skips. The transition from rock to electronic music is admirable, but it is when they are able to fuse the two, like they do on In Rainbows, that I enjoy radio head the most.

Interesting record, almost ambient at times, lots of electronica, not a lot of memorable songs (at least after one listen)

Decent. Not really a huge fan of ones I hadn’t already heard.

It takes something really special for me to like ambient music, and this album just doesn’t have it. It’s still enjoyable, but very forgettable. Considering none of the songs are big hits individually, I wonder how much of the album’s success came down to marketing it using the internet and riding on the popularity of OK Computer

Radiohead is a unique band. I feel like no musical act combines commercial and critical success like they do. They make weird, experimental music that somehow has mass appeal. It seems like everyone loves them, but for some reason, I consistently fail to understand why. Even though I already decided that I’m not a fan of their music a long time ago, this overwhelming praise makes me relisten to Ok Computer, Kid A, and In Rainbows on a semi-regular basis in case I start to “get” them someday. And here I am, sitting down to listen to Kid A again, thinking, like the clown I am, “This time for sure”… And for what seems like a hundredth time, I once again can only come up with a single compliment—it’s good… But that’s kind of it. I don’t think I’m weird for thinking that Radiohead’s popularity makes no sense. They’re not making music to appeal to the masses and constantly experiment with their sound. Their songs are sophisticated and artsy, and you can’t dance to them. Like, this is the last band among the ones that don’t make their sound repulsive on purpose you’d expect to be popular. Yet they are. Radiohead make unusual music, but I wouldn’t call it challenging. They’re kind of a gateway drug into experimental music, but since a lot of the experimental stuff tends to be significantly more abrasive than Radiohead, most of their fans don’t seem to move past them. I'm certainly not inclined to call Radiohead fans pretentious losers (that would be friendly fire), but I get the impression that at least some of them say they like the band only because everyone else seems to. This is not meant as an insult to Radiohead fans. I don’t think liking them necessarily says something about your character, nor am I trying to spew some elitist bullshit about what bands people can’t like to not seem stupid to me (unless the band in question is, like, Imagine Dragons or something). Radiohead is just not a band I would expect to be popular, so the praise they get seems somewhat inflated to me. There probably is not an insignificant amount of people that conditioned themselves into enjoying them significantly more than they otherwise would have after seeing the overwhelmingly positive reviews. But I might totally be projecting, since the reason I constantly return to Radiohead is because the reviews totally conditioned me into feeling I’m missing something. There’s also not a single band I’m aware of that even remotely replicates the feel of Radiohead, and that may also be a factor. I don’t know for sure. And the thing is, I don’t really understand why I’m not a fan of them. I like well-produced atmospheric experimental music, so they should be right up my alley. But somehow they’re not. Maybe it’s the focus on vocals, maybe it’s the dark, melancholic vibe. There’s not a single thing I can point at and confidently say, “That’s what ruins it.” This is especially true for Kid A, which is my favorite Radiohead album. The music here is good, even occasionally amazing. I like every song here, except that ambient one, but we don’t talk about that (and if you like it, I get it—I also think sex is kinda gross). Everything In Its Right Place is a fantastic album opener, and its first few notes have been stuck in my head since the first time I heard it; the lyrics of Optimistic and the melody of In Limbo are so unbelievable memorable; even the more industrial sound of Idioteque somehow appeal to me besides the fact that I don’t like electronic music that much; and The National Anthem is quite possibly one of the best songs I’ve ever heard. With this album more than any other one from them, I feel like it’s going to “click” eventually, but it’s been so long that I’m not that sure anymore. Radiohead’s songs are anything but forgettable, but at the same time, most of them are not that fun for me. I can appreciate the effort and talent that went into creating this; I get that probably some very specific mood I've apparently never been in would make this the most ethereal experience ever. But I just don't enjoy it that much on its own merit. I don't fully get it and don't know why. I can with utmost confidence say that this is good music, but for me, it doesn't cross the line of being something truly special. Okay, Radiohead... next time for sure... 7/10

Considered one of the best albums of the decade, I never really understood why. It’s okay, but I loved the Radiohead of the 90s. “How to Disappear Completely” and “Morning Bell” are good, the rest is just too different from what I associate with Radiohead. The chill out vibe is kinda cool, but I can’t say it enough, it’s just not the Radiohead of the 90s.

Very good, not the best

Started out ok, but not the best overall. When the album was finished, and it flipped over to a new artist, it was the first time I started enjoying the music, but it wasn't Radiohead. That happens a lot to me for this list of albums.

Wish there was a 3.5

I dug. Weird. But I dug.

I guess I don't get it.

Ive never considered myself a big radiohead fan- I dont really enjoy the tone of many of their songs. Did find myself liking this one though- it had some songs where the vibe was just right to sort of zone out and appreciate the music. I can also see how it was a big influence to early 2000s indie bands. Overall- 3.5/5

Said it on the last Radiohead album and I'll say it here; they are fine but why people treat them like the second coming of Christ is beyond me. 6/10

This is an album filled with dissonance; it demands your attention, draws you in, and compels you to listen and engage. Understanding this album takes time; it possesses a quietness and intricacy, with songs arranged without conventional hooks that should be experienced as a whole rather than as separate tracks. If you are not willing to invest in actively listening to this album, it is likely not something you will appreciate (and you might find it frustrating). This is not an album meant for casual engagement or background white noise. I find this to be an intriguing listening challenge, an exploration of sound and construction of the music and themes. I can recognize the skill behind this album and the embrace of electronica, but it is not my preferred Radiohead album. However, for those who consider it their favourite, I understand why they feel that way.

It's fun, not the best, but fun

Kind of anxious music - don’t know if I like it

Cool but didn’t live up to the hype I’ve heard about it.

This album made me feel like a robot learning how to love for the first time.

Interesting. A little more emo than I really enjoy, but good background work music.

Ambient, slow

I know this album is beloved and there's honestly some beautiful music here, but for whatever reason Radiohead just never clicks for me.

Didn't like it as much as I hoped. Kind of all over the place

One of the albums on the list that sounds the least like the other albums. I appreciate the creativity, but I don't like the result very much. It's trippy. That's not what I want from music. And I hate the singing. Favorite song: the national anthem

A bit too arty for my tastes, but has aged well for something from 2000

A little discordant/out there for my taste. Mostly instrumental but a lot of synth and seemed purposefully trying to make you uneasy.

This was an interesting album and I liked a couple tracks. Radiohead is a band I find that I like some tracks but they are usually not a full album/let it rip kind of experience for me.

What do you call it when a DJ gets a blow job on the air? I prob didn’t take enough drugs to enjoy this as much as I could’ve.

When I first listened to this album I didn’t like the repetitive drum machine loops and Thom Yorke’s singing style. Many years later I can appreciate the music but Thom doesn’t need to make vocal sounds continually throughout the phrases. Rests and silence are music too.

strano.. però alcune pezzi interessanti...

It’s ok

It’s taken me from the time it was released and until now to try and appreciate this record. It hurt so much when they released this after OK Computer, and I still think it’s difficult to really appreciate it. I’m getting closer, though. Ask me again in 25 years

It was alright. Some tracks were good, others forgettable. Nice enough to listen to in the background and relax.

Психодел какой то, на фон круто

77% Best: The National Anthem; How to Disappear Completely; Optimistic; Idioteque Must-Hear? Not quite

Not really a big fan and don’t think there are as amazing as a lot of people.

It is insane to consider the vast musical terrain that Radiohead traversed from "Pablo Honey" to this, their 4th album. "Kid A" doesn't sound like the same band. There's the voice of Thom Yorke that shows up from time to time here sounding like he did in the past, and only in stretches of "Optimistic" does the powerful 'old' Radiohead's personality make an appearance. "Kid A" divided fans, and made you wonder why you liked this band. If you liked the big guitar riffs and soaring melodies like you got on "The Bends", well, those are ALL GONE NOW. It's sort of... not the same band any more. Frankly, I appreciate this record more than I connect with it. The more esoteric and less direct they got, the less interested I became. I can say this if you have never heard Radiohead except for this, don't give up on them. "The Bends" is a rock gem and "OK Computer" is incredible.

Acho que é um álbum bem Radiohead. É legal, mas poucas músicas são realmente legais. Everything In Its Right Place e How to Disappear Completely são as únicas que eu achei interessantes. O resto acho que só arranha mesmo. Esperando Ok Computer..

Good stuff

Perhaps controversial but this used to be toward the bottom of Radiohead albums for me. A mean boy in college introduced it to me. I guess enough time has passed for the connection to fade because I really enjoyed this re-listen. Still not my favorite but maybe closer to top 5 of theirs for me. I still don't like the title track though. 3.5/5

Me pasó lo mismo que con la mayoría de los discos de Radiohead, un tremendo meh.

De är överrepresenterade på den här listan men den här plattan är dock ganska bra.

Not for me. Trying too hard. Liked it at the time.

Introspective and experimental, Kid A is perhaps too far ahead of its time. And this makes the public feel a bit strange about the album. But that's not actually Kid A's biggest problem. The "waters" of Kid A seem too deep to be able to reach the album's main objective. Even though there are good moments here, so much depth ends up keeping the listener from having a better experience. Maybe they overdid it in the experimentation, maybe it's just misunderstood. The truth is that Kid A is a big maybe. Who knows, maybe one day someone will discover what's behind it.

7/10 Highlights: Everything in its right place Optimistic Idioteque Morning Bell Motion Picture Soundtrack

Everything in Its Right Place 3.1 Kid A 2.4 The National Anthem 3.2 How to Disappear Completely 3 Treefingers 2.8 Optimistic 3.1 In Limbo 3 Idioteque 3.4 Morning Bell 3.3 Motion Picture Soundtrack 2.8 Score: 3.01

The album where I drifted away from Radiohead. Everything In Its Right Place and Optimistic stand out, but a little too much ambient for me.

This will be rated high, but i found it annoying

Pretty cool background music, but too many songs that sound like 5 minute intros to another song.

Different but ok

Another Radiohead recording. This one was OK but definitely felt somewhat dark and moody. The kind of album one must be in a certain mood to enjoy.

Started strong, felt samey throughout

EIIRP as an opener is one of my favorite Radiohead songs. I just wish the whole album followed suit. For large swathes of this album it felt like an Ambient music record and I lost interest. Some nice little bits but they are sparse. It gets 3 stars for the opener.

I am going to steal a line from another review I read about this album...I feel like I am supposed to like them more than I do because they are Radiohead. There are some interesting beats and mixes (Idioteque for instance) but overall I don't love it or see how it is so groundbreaking. It was different from Radiohead's previous album so yes for them it was a big departure, but its sad electronic music at its core.

This album has a weird sad vibe. It was okay. Nothing particularly grabbed me about it. National Anthem was good.

This album gets celebrated routinely - I can understand why and what it did for the rock genre, but it just leaves me cold. In Rainbows and the Bends are better and if that makes me a smooth brain so be it

I guess I just dont get it

It very much sounds like a soundtrack for a drama. Either tv episode or movie. Overall did not dig the sound aside from it being an enjoyable sountrack.

I'm part of the OK Computer Radiohead crew really rather than much that came after it. The level of acclamation that this got (best album of the 2000s etc.) confuses me completely - sure, it's interesting, has a bit of a wander through a few different genres, but surely it doesn't grab anyone in the way that an album of the decade should? I don't think it's bad, it's got depth to it, but doesn't do anything more than a 3/5 for me.

Sounds like he was experimenting with how much he could take out and still have a song. Melody? Rhythm? Lyrics? Check.

Feels like we must have had almost all big Radiohead album now on this list, just missing 'OK Computer'! I think this is a bit weaker than those albums we had before. No real single strong song that stand out and carries the album (not that it's a must-have, but still), and I find the rest to be lacking identity, like 'Kid A' and 'Treefingers', or just not being that good. Still, 'How To Disappear Completely' is a really good song, and 'Everything In Its Right Place' is decent as well, but the rest you can skip.

Good but not my fav by them

Not bad, but always feels like something is missing from these RH albums. I get so hyped from people talking them up and then it's just disappointment. 3/5

A pretty good album, I liked Treefingers and Optimistic.

Too avantgarde. No progression in the songs' dynamics. Not my type of listening.

Not as good as the last one, Radiohead... not as good...

This is the sort of album to put on at the end of a long evening. It’s nice and chill but tends to fade into background music. Personally I prefer their rockier stuff

OK but not great. Never quite seems to live up to expectations somehow, maybe the bar was set too high too early?

I loved OK Computer so much that I think I subconsciously avoided the follow-up albums so not to feel the disappointment. So today was my first time listening to Kid A... and I think I may have been right to avoid it. I didn't hate it; it was just there. I appreciate the direction Radiohead took, but for me, the bar was set far too high with OK Computer.

In comparison to the previous Radiohead album I didn't like it as much as Hail to the thief. 3 stars.

I preferred Hail To The Thief.

I liked a lot of the sounds in this album, but didn’t really enjoy the album.. maybe it came on the wrong day and I wasn’t in the right headspace for what Radiohead was trying to do here. Possibly too experimental for my brain today. Gonna go 3 stars but will need to revisit in the future

Is it just dead cool to worship these? They’re alright

Lots of cool stuff going on here. It didn’t really strike me like I expected but definitely worth the listen. Really enjoyed the last tune

Still quite boring as the previous album of the band that I listened to, Amnesiac, but this one feels less pretentious. It is more ambient and less artsy, I think. Still not a fan of the whiney vocal. Still a lot of very repetitive programming that does not sound great.

Expected better from Radiohead

I can remember saying positive & negative things about Radiohead and about this album specifically over the years, depending on my mood, whether one of generosity or one where I just kind of felt like annoying someone for no reason at a party, but I've never been actually able to nail down my real feelings. After 25 years of this, I think it is just time I accept the truth, that I respect it, I find it not unpleasant, I genuinely like /a couple/ of the songs, but it just doesn't actually touch any of the places in my soul that respond to art

I’m still famously a Radiohead agonistic, but I’ve always liked Kid A better than OK Computer. I think the change in sound made sense at the time, and “Idiotque” might be their best song. Still not that into it, but I understand the placement. C…+

I've listened to this album multiple times and want to really like it...but I just can't. I like their first three albums so much more...

This wasn't something I could actively listen to but I did enjoy it as background music to activity.

I really like a few of the tracks but overall I think it's just ok.

Some interesting stuff going on, but also a lot of the Radiohead staples of boring loops and whining.

I know it is cliché, but I still think Creep is a great song. I generally don't like hits so much compared to deeper cuts. But Raidohead is certainly exception. I have tried so many times to appreciate them, but they just aren't that interesting to me. This album really isn't much of an exception. At points it sounded like music you'd hear in a massage parlor.

I like the sound but ultimately it is not very exciting and each song sounds more or less the same

Komisch angefangen, zum Ende besser geworden. Trotzdem merkwürdige Sounds, wahrscheinlich gut wenn man zum richtigen Alter das Album gehört hat. Zum jetzigen Zeitpunkt eher mid

I appreciate their commitment to the craft and their grandiose sound but some of these songs go over my head. Either too weird or I don’t find much to grab. Those are the more ambient songs or them just trying stuff but I really like my highlighted songs. “The National Anthem” being now one of my favorite Radiohead songs. Highlights: “The National Anthem”, “How to Disappear Completely” & “Optimistic”. 3.5 stars.

Although I realize that Radiohead's albums have enjoyed widespread critical and commercial success, I continue to struggle to enjoy their music, and, unfortunately, my first full and focused listen to Kid A did not change that. There is an undeniable artistry to the band's soundscapes; they are deeply evocative and ethereal, yet they often feel like incomplete compositions -- as though they need to be partnered with a different element, such as a movie soundtrack or an art installation to achieve their mission. To that end, they can seem to plod and downshift the momentum of the album. It should be said that when Radiohead can allow itself to embrace a semi-traditional song structure (such as on tracks like "How to Disappear Completely" or "Optimistic") the album hits a fine gear. But those moments are just too rare to hold the album together for a listener like me, and Yorke's mewling vocal affect only seems to create greater distance between them. It is challenging to give an appropriate star rating to such a seminal album that fails to reach me as a listener. I feel pressure to give it five stars "just because" but my three star review is the most authentically generous rating I can provide. At the end of the day, I can't honestly say that Kid A is a bad album, but I am certain that I am unable to enjoy it.

Everything In Its Right Place is amazing. The rest is fine, sets a mood, but not too striking.

Music written by aliens . My favorite song was Idioteque

A me sto disco pesa come una giornata di sole durante la quale stai in casa per fare qualcosa di importante ma poi non lo fai e ti penti di non essere uscito. Una bella sofferenza

There are a few nice tracks on here, but this album doesn't work as a whole for me

I almost like Everything In Its Right Place, The National Anthem, Idioteque

Favorite: How to Disappear Completely Least Favorite: Kid A

Wow, the titular 'Kid A' song right near the beginning was bloody dreadful. It felt like I was being waterboarded with the T-1000's liquids. There were some pretty nice songs afterwards though! Everything in its right place grew on me with repeated listens (though some of the weird digitized garble in the back sounds like some annoying pixie trying to get my attention). The National Anthem was a pretty bizarre track which I feel weird about enjoying, definitely a standout for how chaotic it is for a band that is often criticized for droning on too much. Treefingers was probably my favorite song, such a lovely ambiance. Favourite Songs: Treefingers, Optimistic, The National Anthem Least Favourite Song: Kid A

I have only listened to The Bends and OK Computer before listening to this album, I have heard a few post-OK Computer songs when they come up on spotify shuffle so I had somewhat of an idea of what to expect here. Everything In Its Right Place as an opener didn't grab me but the song is fine. Halfway through the title track I totally clicked with the vibe of what this album is trying to do and was able to successfully separate the radiohead I had listened to previously in my head from what I am listening to now. The National Anthem was a bit much for me especially towards the end, didn't care much for this track. But it has a great bassline How To Disappear Completely and Treefingers are good back-to-back songs, I liked Treefingers a lot as a track but How To kind of made me want to listen to Sea Power instead The last 20 seconds of Optimistic are funky but this song for me is just okay. Yorke's vocals are sometimes hit and miss for me and this is a miss. Great transition into In Limbo, this song is great Jarring transition into Idioteque, a bit heavy on the electronica for my taste and maybe the sound system I am listening on isn't tuned well but the bass is mixed weirdly and can overpower the lyrics, also the drum machine in this song is kind of annoying, did Lars Ulrich get the idea for St Anger from this? Also realised I have only heard this song in memes before from the 'ice age coming' line Morning Bell is kind of boring, not a lot to say about this Motion Picture Soundtrack is a simple and well-produced song, Yorke's vocals work well here and the second half of this sound reminds me of the flowers blooming scene from Master Gardener, I wish more of the album was like this Untitled is more of a musical flourish than a song, nothing else to say about it Album as a whole is a 7 from me it's not my usual type of music but it's something I can appreciate. Maybe repeat listens will condition me to become a massive musical afficionado (wanker) and I'll grow a deep appreciation for this and have a more refined opinion (parroting what critics and /mu/ says). Probably won't listen to any of these songs on their own but this album seems like something I would like to have on in the background at home after work, but in that circumstance I would rather listen to anything by Eno What is most striking to me about this album is the critical response both at its release and years after. The album looks like it received lukewarm reviews in 2000 and was later re-appraised seemingly because it became trendy and cool to like Radiohead and the band itself has become a signifier that you're smart or whatever. This, however, is only a problem if you take the profession of music criticism seriously. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xsFzHpBlugs

best intro song to exist, tho i was in the wrong mood just cause it was to depressing

Loved it - but not my favourite Radiohead album

The perfect example of Radiohead’s “Im unsure if I love it or hate it”. The ambiance, theming and some of musical aspects are great but then his mindless unintelligible babbling is at points honestly horrendous. No song stuck out as being very great and even the songs that had good parts also had parts I really didn’t enjoy. Actually kind of disappointed as I hear Kid-A mentioned as one of if not the best Radiohead album, but after having listened to like 4 albums it might be one of my least favorites. 4/10

Not my favorite Radiohead

Love radio headphones but this is too experimental for me to enjoy

New to Radiohead, and am a fan. This album is great for a relaxing evening in a dimly lit room with the windows open and a cool breeze rolling through, reclined in your favorite leather chair, a glass of bourbon in hand. It's a high 3 for me. Just need a little more bang for my buck to get to a 4.

Opening track is haunting KID A/The national anthem were meh How to disappear completely is amazing Individual tracks there are no real standouts, it's about the conglomerate which I do like when albums are like that These are very cool ambient sound spaces and it's definitely innovative and forward thinking, but in terms of actually enjoying listening to it, I was iffy.

Quite the direction to take following a release such as "OK Computer". I came into this album completely blind, so hearing a mix of familiar Radiohead with electronica and what some can describe as ambient sounds was a bit jarring. It just never really struck a chord with me while listening though. I do acknowledge that this was a brave endeavor for a group of Radiohead's caliber. Burnout is very much a real thing and artists should be encouraged to experiment and change things up if they feel the need to do so. Guess I just don't have the right ears or mindset for this kind of experimental "rock", though. Nothing really stuck with me after listening, except for maybe "Idioteque".

I know this is an amazing album to many people, but I think it really just has great soundscapes. Overall I thought it was interesting but not something I'd go back to probably.

What an awesome artist to start my 200s. I don't even really know what to say about Radiohead. I'm a big fan of The Bends and I know there is this pretentious bias amongst Radiohead fans that The Bends is their worst album.. But I whole heartedly disagree. It's deftheir most accessible. The song writing is great, and different from their contemporaries. I am happy that Radiohead write and experiment with music the way they want to. But I do tend feel thwt their more experimental and electronic stuff doesnt tend to resonate with me. That being said, this album was pretty good. There were a lot of songs that I thought were great but a lot of others that I didn't care for. It was very up and down for me. The production sounds nice throughout. But that doesn't necessarily make a good album. It adds to it though. Maybe I'm just not at that stage. I was told, when I was a teenager, that it's hard to get INTO Radiohead but when it clicks... It's life changing. So maybe I'm waiting for it to click. I do enjoy what I'm hearing but I am not crazy about it. I won't give up on them.

I wonder if this type of 'experimentation' with electronic sound is what groups in the '60s did with tape tracks? The looping, the stories of The Beatles drawing the tape around the room and passed through pencils and stuff to 'adjust' the sound...

This one was weird, it came in two days after In Rainbows, an album which I loved... somehow, this felt less meaningful and more random... maybe it needs time, but for now, this is only OK for me.

Okaish eletronica. Feels Like in between Organ music and instrumental.

A bit all over the place imo. Title track was awful, but I didn’t mind the rest

I sometimes think after Ok Computer that Radiohead just said "How weird can we get and everyone will still think we're brilliant?" Mission accomplished. Tracks I like: The National Anthem, How to Disappear Completely, Optimistic. Everything else is just weird.

3.5 it’s good not great. Production is top notch, most the music is great but god is Mr Yorkes voice extremely annoying

It's a hit and a miss for me. I guess that's the risk of going experimental. Some stuff in this album I found overwhelmingly beautiful and some other parts were just overwhelming.

It's cool. But not cool enough.

I own this one on vinyl. Good listen

I don’t particularly like their experimental album, still some a good album though

A personal favourite, but not that good really. First track/s best.

Every song is either an ethereal electronic masterpiece or a droning snoozefest. Never in between.

Too many Radiohead albums on this list. They are very good at what they do and there has been some progression to their music. But really, they don't need to be represented so many times.

Chatuille les oreilles - Track1

Not as good as OK Computer

One of the best radio head albums. It has so many bangers

Love the otamatone lead singer on the title track... I like ambient music so this isn't bad to me, but I could see it pissing off a Radiohead fan at the time. I appreciate they took a swing into new territory, albeit begrudgingly. A couple tracks are tough, but the rest is good. It's a vibe, not something you'd put on to groove to. 3.8

Trippy start. I enjoy Radiohead, but don't think I have ever heard this album. This first song is a bit bleak. I have heard this album has a bit of a reputation for being depressing. Kid A is an interesting song, the vocals sound like they are coming through an old timey radio a bit. The National Anthem sounds like a sci-fi song, and has UFO sounds. Interesting horn solo! Ended like a noise rock song, which I don't love. How to Disappear Completely is my favorite song so far despite it being so sad. But I really love sad music. Treefingers is another bleak song, but an instrumental piece. Instrumentals often bore me, and this one was no different. I liked the mood it gave, but did not feel interested enough to add it to my liked list. Optimistic seems sarcastic almost. Or cynical. I like the vibe of In Limbo a lot. Again, a pretty sad song. Is Idioteque about climate change? Very prescient even for today! Wow, what a song. I love it! Good beat as well. Best song on the album perhaps! Morning Bell is not as good, but I still enjoyed it. Almost hopeful after Idioteque? Maybe not hopeful, but definitely not as grim as Idioteque. Album sort of ended with a whimper.

Some tracks I liked a lot but others just annoyed me, probably a 3.5 overall.

Kid A feels like what I have often heard what Radiohead sounds like - lots of mumbly electronica rock. Not necessarily a bad thing, not sure if I enjoy it. The electronica sounds are fine just the lyrics are all so so. Best: Everything in Its Right Place Worst: Idioteque 2.5 Stars

High quality sound. There are some elements I like, but this album feels too experimental for my liking. Low 3

First song is a classic. Wasn’t crazy about some of the tracks. Could take it or leave it.

I didn’t understand the hype about this album in college and I still don’t understand it now. Maybe I’m just not cool enough to “get it” but I don’t see how this was game-changing in any way, other than for the band itself. That being said, it’s not a bad album either, though a little dreary for my tastes.

Enjoyed the atmospheric stuff a lot. Not as big a fan of Thom Yorke vox in it. Just not my thing

OK author we get it, you like Radiohead. I don’t hate them but. 120 albums in and this is my 4th frickin Radiohead album. What the hell does the author see in this group? Every album sounds almost identical why on earth do we need 4, or maybe more, Radiohead albums? Unbelievable!

A little Radiohead goes a long way for me. Taken a song at a time mixed in with other music I really like them but I'm not inclined to listen to a whole album from beginning to end.

Also sort of disappointed. Its great but didn’t remember it being so monotonous and one note. I wish I had more to say. I guess I just prefer the Bends.

I’m still waiting to be put under the spell of a Radiohead album. This hasn’t quite managed it. But it would require more than 24 hours. Some of it is really gorgeous, some of it is vague, at best.

Good album

prvi put sam se u životu zapitala "šta je uopšte muzika?"

This is the third Radiohead album I've heard on this list, and its definitely the weakest of the three so far. Not a bad album at all, and there's a few songs that I'll come back for. But for the most part, a majority of the songs just felt like a lot of the ideas (vocal lines, instrumental breaks) lacked cohesion to the point it all kind of faded into white noise

This one is all over the map for me. First few tracks were almost unbearable. Then "How to Disappear completely" was really musically beautiful, then Treefingers felt like relaxation music during a massage. The next few tracks weren't for me, but then I liked Morning Bell and Motion Picture Soundtrack.

Overall the album is a groove I'm into. It starts out with some really nice ear candy with Everything In Its Right Place and probably peaks with Optimistic but there are no skips. Solid and pleasant.

Never been in love with radiohead. this was fine tho

Eh, I think this is around where I get off the Radiohead ride. There are a few good songs on here (Idioteque being one), but this is where the band starts to get too weird for me. I appreciate that they were looking to try new things, but it's just not for me. A lot of this album sounds like some bizarre Enya/Brian Eno/indie film soundtrack mashup, and not in a good way. Thom's vocals get pretty grating on some of the tracks, and a lot of them don't really sound like songs so much as soundscapes. It comes off as pretentious. Not a fan. 3/5

Good for what it’s trying to accomplish. Wouldn’t casually listen to it

What a huge and divisive swing from OK Computer. I included Amnesiac in the listen as the "hidden B-sides" of the album to emphasize how different of a project the band endeavored on at Thom's behest. It's odd to listen to, and not immediately appealing. Over time, it has come to be appreciated for its' importance to music as a whole and for several of its' distinct instruments, songwriting practices, and general oddness compared to what they could've made. Combined or separate neither crack my top 3 Radiohead albums, but it's an important part of the journey they take

It’s seminal, it’s important, it’s influential. But is it any fun to listen to? Not so sure. I love the first track but it feels like a chore to listen to the whole thing in one sitting.

This album is far from the greatest collection. 3.5/5

Enjoyable ambient?

3.5 I prefer a few other Radiohead albums

I absolutely love Radiohead (and The Smile), but I never did like this album or the follow up ‘Amnesiac’. It was just too much of a leap down the experimental route that was just too quirky for me to get into. Coming from the unbelievably awesome ‘Ok Computer’ this left me a bit frustrated. All the albums that came after ‘Amnesiac’ were a return to my taste, and had the right amount of weird to make them completely different to any other act around. When I want to listen to Radiohead, there’s too many choices to ever go for ‘Kid A’. So when this came up on the list, it was the prompt I needed to give it a go with fresh ears. Better than I remember but nowhere near their finest work. I can appreciate it but just won’t be reaching for it when I need some Radiohead.

After 24 years I've finally got round to listening to this and what are my first impressions? Very experimental, but maybe a bit too self indulgent? Very different to their previous albums. I will need to give this a few listens before I can make a proper judgement. There were no particular stand out tracks as far as my ears could ascertain. A mid 3

Per the Wikipedia blurb on here: Rolling Stone, Pitchfork and the Times ranked Kid A the greatest album of the 2000s, and in 2020 Rolling Stone ranked it number 20 on its updated list of the "500 Greatest Albums of All Time". As someone who was conscious in the 2000s, I'm a little offended. If I could insert the Mugatu/crazy pills GIF here I would. I just don't get Radiohead's popularity. This album is a big ol' bunch of meh. I didn't hate it, but I can assure you I will never choose to listen to this again.

More interesting to read about than listen to, as that's where most meaning is found. Not bad, just kind if boring.

Refreshing after the last repetitive-ass album from UB40. You can tell how much more experimental this is. Sax in the national anthem? I think I lean more toward the earlier Radiohead sound. Highlights: everything in its right place, how to disappear completely

Prefer other stuff they’ve done

2.5 al dat cu 3 jer sad imam nes kaj me garant uspavljuje za par pjesmi.

I like early Radiohead. This was the point where their sound changed to a much more atmospheric and passive experience, and I don't think that will ever resonate with me as much as other forms of music.

The thing I like most about Radiohead is the guitars. This one could never be a favourite to me because they largely forsake that. Nice though, some good songs, easy to get swept up in it.

Just cause Radiohead makes more interesting clicks and instrumental/vocal whines than you or I might doesn’t mean it was an entirely worthwhile effort. Just listen to big karlheinz stockhausen. At its best with driving bass and occasional hooks. Idioteque is pretty tight though. These boys need to get back to blaming it on a black star where they belong

"Everything in Its Right Place" – 4:11 – 6/10 "Kid A" – 4:44 – 7/10 "The National Anthem" – 5:51 – 3/10 "How to Disappear Completely" – 5:56 "Treefingers" – 3:42 – 6/10 "Optimistic" – 5:15 "In Limbo" – 3:31 – 8/10 "Idioteque" – 5:09 "Morning Bell" – 4:35 "Motion Picture Soundtrack" – 7:01 – 7/10 Untitled hidden track – 0:52

Five songs in and this record is doing nothing for me. I’m trying. I came into this with an open mind. Radiohead is always regarded as innovative and influential. This is boring. OK Computer is awesome according to my 16 year old son. Mind you he is a huge hip hop fan so that is saying something. Based on this record I really don’t want to listen to any more Radiohead. Creep is an awesome song. Maybe I’m not “cerebral” enough for this. Going to be hard to not give this one a 2 star rating.

Many songs are very samey... I prefer other albums

Not my favorite Radiohead album. Missing the aggression that OK Computer had, and replaced it with art school whining.

I thought it was an ok album. I think you need to be a proper state of mind to really get into the music on this one.

liked some of the songs, other songs not so much. not all radiohead albums are created equal… if you judge every radiohead album against “ok computer”, you will be disappointed.

I enjoyed “morning bell” that was about it

(panu I am sorry) I got a bit bored of how whiny it was at times, but I liked the bits with the saxophones (or whatever brass instruments they had)

I have listened to this thrice before. I gave it a 3.5/5. I am going to relisten again tonight while I study for my second Microbiology exam. I do not know the information nearly well enough for the exam but for some reason I don't feel a lot of stress. It will probably set in soon. Anyway... album notes below: -eiirp has grown on me, still don't understand why it is so popular -kid a is a dud sorry -the national anthem remains peak -htdc mid -treefingers is too ambient for my liking. nothing happens -optimistic is fine -in limbo is fine -idioteque is fine -morning bell is pretty good -motion picture soundtrack forgettable -untitled whatever overall i am bumping it down to a 3/5

3.5 Interesting album. Really liked the jazz mixed with electronica, but I would probably only play it as ambient/atmosphere music.

Radiohead. 3

Headier stuff from Radiohead. Listen through with headphones and enjoy the ride.

Rainbows still clears

I think How to Disappear Completely is a really good track on an otherwise forgettable album. I'm just not a huge Radiohead fan. They're... fine. But that's as far as I can ever go with them. This album is no exception.

It feels like I am supposed to like this more than I do. First few tracks hit nice. By the end it felt more pretentious than ambitious. I don't get the hype but I didn't hate it.

This one doesn't stick with me as much as their other stuff. Still enjoy it for a list. Might just take me a few times to listen to like it more too, so might try that. Will I listen to again: 50%

My favorite is still EIIRP :) good listen tho

Gar nicht so schlecht.

There is definitely a payoff for repeated listenings, though I can't help but sympathize with those who have called it "pretentious" and "deliberately obscure" and "more fun to think and write about than it is to actually listen to" and "look-ma-I-can-suck-my-own-cock whiny rubbish" (from a British critic, no less). 3/5.

I have listened to this album before because I know it's Kevin's favorite. It still hasn't pulled me in all the way. I'm giving it a 3.5 stars.

Had some really nice experimental aspects with the electronics that I really liked, and some that I didn't enjoy. This was a nice listen but there was nothing that could push this over the hump for me.

saved for later currently listening; giving it a temporary 3

General observations: - I know quite a few radiohead songs already but I'm not sure whether I know any from this album - decent length of album Song-by-song breakdown: - Everything in its right place. Trippy, effectively repetitive. - Kid A. Weirdly its intro reminds me of Greys Anatomy for some reason???

I'd never listened to Radiohead before. I liked about 1/2 of the songs on this album. A few were just too aggressive and discordant for my tastes.

Interesting. Not really what I was expecting....but then again I was basing that off of their earlier work. I didnt vibe with this one as well.

Good one

An okay Radiohead album

A well crafted and produced album.. however, it's a bit on dreary side with no obvious standout singles. Nobody is rushing to put The National anthem on at and can't see people choosing tree fingers as a favourite to listen to on their own.

Not my favourite Radio head music, but still enjoyable

This album marks the point where Radiohead completely jumped off the pop rails and flew into a musical realm almost entirely of their own. It's like talking to someone who is operating on a much higher order of thought. You can't help but smirk because you know what they are saying is profound, but it's just inaccessible enough to where you feel a bit left out.

This marked the moment I lost contact with Radiohead. Loved the Bends and OK Computer but found this almost impossible to engage with when it came out. Listening to it now I think I may have viewed it a bit harshly. The textures and soundscapes are incredible and there are some songs in there (even if Thom Yorke is trying really hard not to sing anything with too clear a melody) Still prefer their earlier, funnier stuff

One of their better albums. Another chaotic mix with melancholy, dreary almost wailing from the vocalist. One could call this emo for sure

Not my favorite Radiohead album. Worth a listen but I probably wouldn't seek it out.

Sonic soundscapes lift Darkness pressure and desire Yearning to be more

The sound is quintessential Radiohead. Lots of songs I didn't know. Will definitely be listening again.

Spacey, get high

This is where they started to lose me.

Pas mon Radiohead préféré

I got this album when I was young.

Prima oke

"How to Disappear Completely" is giving big Twilight vibes. It feels very on brand for me to like "Motion Picture Soundtrack" this much.

Some good songs.

This is not my favorite Radiohead album. It's tedious for me and tries so hard to be artsy and not musical. I can't get behind whatever Radiohead does being brilliant, as many people seem to be able to do. I think sometimes Thom Yorke could fart into a microphone and it would get five stars from reviewers. It's not a bad album, but I truly believe it is contrarian groupthink which makes this album so popular. See, you have to be smart to understand what Radiohead is doing, so if you enjoy it then it says something about you. If they got rid of the first three songs, I think I could give this album one more star.

Cool album w/a couple of hits. 3

How to disappear completely är en favorit... trea bara för dens skull, resten ger inte mig några värre kicks

Fave tracks: The National Anthem & Optimistic

Ambient

Approx. 47 mins. Ethereal prog/alt jazz with dark lyrics swirled together made for a quiet listening experience on a cold, gray day. (5/10)

I suppose it's referred to as...atmospheric? Some is, some is just atonal. I wouldn't put it on my album shuffle list. (and I sure wish we could give half-stars)

If you are not in the mood for experimental sounds, do not listen to this album. It's a mass of noise set up in the organized way. But it's extremely original. Although I like the previous Radiohead albums more. 3.5/5.

I like Radiohead. I've never really liked this particular album though. I've read it's hype. I even wondered what I was missing. I startedthis review by a failed listening session. Maybe the setting wasn't right? So I decided to try later. I even listened to a podcast hoping to gleem some bits of information to help me understand. Then ensured a nice quiet spot to ensure a good listening experience. I'm not blown away. So they a messing around with electronics. That's not groundbreaking. Lots of bands switched from guitar to electronics. I did like the jazziness of National Anthem. Idioteque has been and remains my favorite song from this project. But I'm still not buying the hype

It sounds good (mostly) but it doesn't make me feel good (mostly). I don't think that's what they were going for, though. I think it's a record about not feeling quite right.

Great album

Loves the sound, not a fan of the vocals.

Radio Head

Okay, I guess. A lot of noise, didn't do much for relaxing me as I'd think an album like this would do. I could not see me listening to this again in the future, although it's certainly not bad, I don't think it's for me.

Really nostalgic of the early 00s

I think this is my 3rd listen? I like this album more upon re-listens, but it still isn’t really for me.

Everything in Its Right Place - inject this shit into my veins Kid A - More out there but I liked it The National Anthem - Great riff, I like the chaotic ending How to Disappear Completely - made me feel like I was gonna disappear, 10/10 name Treefingers - this feels like a whole lotta song with zero substance Optimistic - I like the drums In Limbo - I like the vocals Idioteque - also inject this into my veins Morning Bell - I like how Idioteque flows into this Motion Picture Soundtrack - I like the string instrumentals Untitled - couldnt even give the song a name smh

Enjoyed it. A bit samey, to the point that it was difficult to distinguish between tracks, but overall positive.

definitely not as bad i was anticipating. much more interesting instrumentals than normal. i think a big reason why i don’t like radiohead is the whiny singing and a heavily instrumental album fixes that! still nothing crazy special though

This is a very interesting album, in my opinion it doesn't start well but it gets better as it progresses. I appreciate that Radiohead tried something different and the use of electronic sounds and synths is very brave considering the success they had at the time.

Radiohead yesterday, Radiohead again today. Was not a fan of Hail to the Thief and while I've seen many people write that Kid A is much better, it's still the same annoying whining droning noise to me. I don't know, I just can't. But unlike Hail to the Thief, by the end, there were maybe two tracks that I didn't absolutely hate, so Radiohead remains a 3 from me - srednja žalost.

This was ok, 3 stars

3.5 Three days after referring to its successor as “Kid B”, Kid A appears as if to stand up for its bullied younger brother in an attempt to beat the Radiohead hesitancy out of me. Well, spoiler alert: it’s just as pretentious as Amnesiac. However, it is noticeably better, and it also happens to contain one of my all-time favorite tracks of theirs: How to Disappear Completely. It’s probably the most traditionally structured song here from the group, but it encapsulates its title perfectly with the musical and lyrical approach, and its build-up is incredibly well done. I do get a little annoyed when I see fellow music nerds on Reddit describe it as one of the deepest and most emotional songs of all time (it’s not), but it is a great tune nonetheless. Anyway, I wasn’t as familiar with the rest of the album, but found everything for the most part to air more or less on either side of decent. The first few tracks I found to be pretty strong in particular - Everything In Its Right Place is a solid opening track and one that I feel best prepares you for the new pseudo-electronic sound, and while I wasn’t immediately impressed with The National Anthem, the saxophones on it escalated it to a point of enjoyability for me. However, outside of Disappear, I think my favorite moment here was actually Treefingers - it’s not often the instrumental track is the highlight for me, but the soundscape there felt layered in the most enchantingly surreal way. Somewhere after Treefingers the novelty of this album started to wear thin on me. A series of more mediocre tracks stripped away any hint of rose-colored glasses I was wearing, and I began once again seeing this group how I always have - artsy-fartsy, artificially deep, and pretentious. The only real standout for me in the back half of the album was Idioteque, which admittedly does some cool things musically, but I don’t think the charm lasts the full five minutes of its duration. So, yeah, I still find the group incredibly pretentious and overrated, but I’m not afraid to admit that they’ve made some good music, and as far as greatness is concerned, this album may be as close as they’ve gotten (need to revisit OK Computer and The Bends). While I’m not walking away from this as a convert, it did help me see where some of the admiration lies, and I quite possibly may even give this another listen in the future - but sorry, still not convinced this is one of the best albums ever recorded. Shoutout to the group for a successful musical pivot, but it takes more than that to get a 5 from me.

Never heard Radiohead before (except Creep). This sounds so much like Sigur Ros, only not as melodic. And I can understand the words. Overall, a weak 3.

I think it’s more of a 3.5 but there were quite a few times I thought this is it!?The first half is actually enraging. I flip flopped on it but eventually relaxed into the second half (I was watering the garden so maybe I was just in a good mood by that stage.) Ultimately I think this album is just a tad overrated.

Loved the drums in idiotique. Obviously a banger album and I liked how lots of the music had no vocals. Very cohesive.

3.5/5 - I would rate this closer to 4, however there are other Radiohead albums that aren't quite 5's for me that deserve to rated higher than this. That being said this is still very worthy of a yearly listen. Radiohead was able to prove they can experiment and expand their range while meeting their authentic selves. There is a song for everyone on this album yet not every song is for everyone - and that's ok. They were able to weave between meditation sounds and video game ambient tunes while still providing some classic sounding songs Radiohead fans have enjoyed for decades.
