Reviews (page 13 of 14)
Bit slow for my liking, some radishes is good but not my style
I’ve never been into Radiohead. This did not get me to like Radiohead. Droning vocals and robot noises over repetitive lo fi music.
No thank you! I despise Radiohead. Thom Yorke’s voice is weak, metallic, formless, and grating and ruins whatever interesting musical flourishes or polyrhythms there are. Nice bass playing throughout though. The standout track is “Optimistic”, I guess.
I just don’t get Radiohead’s popularity- and this the worst album I’ve heard from them already. Thom Thorne droning voice is the worst aspect but much of the music was just blah also.
Like a bag of cats being swung around a room. That's just Tom Yorke's voice.
I liked motion picture soundtrack and how to disappear completely but yeah
Surprising album. Expected much more and was quite disapointed. No song which reminds one of songs like Creep or Karma Police. Not my thing.
# Playlist track - Idioteque # Notes - Not a huge fan of Radiohead, overall. I do enjoy the ocasional experimental album but "Kid A" doesn't do it for me. - Sounds overly muddy and jumbled.
So far post-OK Computer = garbage. 2 stars, barely.
didn't enjoy it as much as other radiohead records
I felt the instruments were just thrown in haphazardly. Two songs spoke to me but the rest blended together.
Not a bad album, but I was confused as to what genre they stuck with, as there was some white noise in there, there were some church songs and also some normal songs, but I don't know.. it wasn't too bad, but just overall a bit meh. Nothing too exciting happened throughout the whole album.
It's giving "I don't care if you like it." Like being immersed in carbonated water. Fun listening experience.
Out on this vibe
Overrated
It’s just…not for me. This is one of those situations where I’m pretty sure it’s a me problem though.
Radiohead, specifically Thom Yorke, continues to befuddle me. I had no idea where this acclaimed album was going because it lacked any kind of a flow. Yes, it was super experimental and the most common thread was this ethereal note. But Kid A could jump around to jazz-y, Celtic-inspired, or electronica. There was too much going on and I couldn't find any enjoyment. And to learn that Yorke specifically wrote impersonal lyrics and all but ran them through the shredder and pasted them together in a nonsense format! I just don't get it.
I wanted to like this more than I did. But I ended up finding it pretty droney and pretty boring. I guess that's all I've got.
I REALLY don't get the hype around Radiohead. Maybe I'm missing something, maybe they've become less impressive because they've been influential. Either way, I don't really have any desire to keep listening to them.
Was expecting to like this album more. I’d say it's the kind of album that has to grow on you, but I'm not sure if I could overcome the initial dislike of it to get there. Probably worth a relisten though. Yeh: 1. "Everything in Its Right Place" 6. "Optimistic" Eh: 3. "The National Anthem" 4. "How to Disappear Completely" 8. "Idioteque" 9. "Morning Bell" Meh: 2. "Kid A" 5. "Treefingers" 7. "In Limbo" 10. "Motion Picture Soundtrack" 11. "Untitled Lyrics"
Blahhhh overrated. Winny. I don't get it.
Not a big Radiohead guy. This album was weird and a lot of the songs reminded me of music boxes when they started and then just faded into weird noises by the end.
My least favorite Radiohead album
231/1001 🌕🌕🌑🌑🌑
Radiohead might not be for me
Nah. Creep was good but I didn't vibe with this. Bit trippy for my liking.
There's a scene in Friends where Joey warns Chandler not to tell everyone that he doesn't like dogs, because it's basically heresy. I feel like that about Radiohead. I don't like them, I never have, and I've tried, but I mostly nothing them, there are a few songs that I think are decent but most of their stuff misses me by a huge distance. Kid A is an album full of stuff that misses me, it's a collection of ambient noises/sounds that are clearly for an audience with very different tastes to mine, I can't exactly argue that it's bad but it is quite boring to me for the most part. Everything In Its Right Place and The National Anthem are good, but I'm left wondering when songs like Treefingers and Idioteque will finish and why they're even there in the first place. Given I gave that XTC album a 2 it almost feels like I should give this a higher score because 'they're Radiohead' but I didn't enjoy it any more or any less. Music for other people.
I didn't like this album when it came out, despite being a Radiohead fan; I found it pretentious and self-indulgent (given my age at the time, this seems like it should have appealed to me, lol, but clearly it did not). Everyone, it seemed like, was listening to it. All my friends loved it. They might still love it-I should ask them. I still found this album to be pretentious and self-indulgent; it feels like listening to the inside of some college student's head as they smoke Gaulouise cigarettes and contemplate existential philosophy for the first time while staring at their poster of Van Gogh's Starry Night. The two songs I thought were all right were the same ones that are the most popular: "Everything in its Right Place" and "How to Disappear Completely." Many of the other tracks sound like they're trying too hard to be intellectual ambient music (which I guess could also be said of the two most popular tracks as well). I seem to recall liking the follow up to this album ("Amnesiac," aka "Kid B"), but haven't listened to that since it came out, either--so it will be interesting to revisit it, assuming it is on this list.
I just don’t get it. I hear glimpses of why Radiohead is so liked. The beautiful voice and strings, when perfect, sound incredible. Sadly, it is usually followed by some sort of distorted noise that just takes me out of it. It just turns me off to most of their music, I want to like it but it’s just not hitting for me.
I’ve never been a big Radiohead fan, but this album definitely feels like a departure from their earlier, guitar-driven sound, moving towards a much more electronic vibe. While there are a few tracks I enjoyed, I found it challenging to get into as a whole. Maybe with more time and listens, I’d come to appreciate it more, but that moment isn’t here just yet.
Voel me bijna bezwaard
Experimental rock? I don't know what to classify this album as. Its very mellow songs and I enjoyed listening to the album as a whole. Its not some thing I will listen to regularly to thought.
I want so desperately to be like the cool hipster kids who like this stuff. But at the end of the day, it just sounds like a British man moaning over a synth track that has no melody (to me).
Way too wobly.
Unfortunate (for me) to get two Radiohead albums on the trot. I found this one slightly better (less depressing) than Hail to The Thief but too discordant for me.
Just too experimental and too much of a departure from their previous music. Thom’s voice just grates on this a lot. Instrumentally the album would have been better without any vocals.
Vooral irritante stem
Everything In Its Right Place - Cool so far, reminds me of a TeamSESH song or something haha. I'm excited to listen to this album. Always wanted to get into Radiohead. I like the sound of this so far. The fact that this came out in 2000 is super impressive. Sounds modern. The build up on this track is really cool, but i hope it actually builds to something. Kinda droning on. The glitchy vocal effects are cool though. Works as an intro track overall, but kinda boring tbh. Kid A - Title track...better be good! I like the moodiness of this album so far, but I can't say I'm loving anything so far. BUT i'm only 2 tracks in. I can't lie, both these songs kinda just sound like interlude tracks. Not wowing me so far. The National Anthem - Alright we got a nice guitar tone so far. I dig it. Yeah I feel like I'm not gonna love the vocals on this project. Idk... So far this album isn't what I thought it would be. This track really goes off the rails, which is cool in concept, but I don't really vibe with it. How to Disappear Completely - Acoustic guitar to start off, sounds nice. Can't really say I'm loving the song halfway through. It bores me. Treefingers - Ok so this IS an interlude I'm pretty sure. It's just kinda ambient noise. Nothing wrong with that. Just kinda nothing though Optimistic - I'm optimistic that I'll like this track based on the start. But halfway through, it's average. I don't mind this one at all, but nothing I would go back to In Limbo - I really wish I could get into these older bands. Especially this era. But the music just bores me unfortunately. The ending is trippy on this one. But yeah, don't care for the track. Idioteque - Kinda reminds me of listening to New Order (which I just listened to before). Kinda cool intro. But I've never been impressed with the vocals on this project, and this is no exception. Just nothing interesting for ME personally. No interesting and captivating melodies which is something I crave. Morning Bell - Just sounds like another snoozer of a song. I hate being negative with music, because I think pretty much every artist has merit and I respect things even if I don't like them, but I don't get how this album has such a choke hold on people. Motion Picture Soundtrack - I quite like the accordion sounding instrument on the beginning of this track. Pretty gorgeous. The vocals are also pairing really well. I quite like this track for the most part. Very beautiful. Untitled - Oh this is just an outro Overall - Pretty disappointed. Expected to like this a lot more, but it was just pretty boring.
not my style but not totally unenjoyable
I general I like Radiohead. This one didn't do much for me. Very atmospheric
I have been on the overratediohead train since this record. Post ok computer Radiohead took a dump in my opinion. And the overwhelming praise for this record has always annoyed me. There is enough here that is ok to keep it from a 1, but it's close.
Another Radiohead album that adds up to nothing.
Odd, didn’t really like it.
Overrated
The album was Radioheads new take on becoming a technological band. I wasn't a huge fan, but I can always appreciate an artistic album. Just not really my taste.
Too weird for my taste.
Not sure what I'm missing here. Kid A has always been on my radar as a critical darling. I've enjoyed the prior 2 Radiohead albums from the list (one more than the other), but Kid A fell very flat for me. Sure, it's an experimental take on electronic rock, but is it any good to listen to? I had it on both while driving and then while feeding an infant and it didn't bring me in for either. A little too obscure and pretentious for me to come back to this one. 2.27 stars
Not for me
Was okay, only liked 1 song off the album but was good.
Not my favorite Radiohead album...
Good band from the 00’s. Good songs. Original.
Was good, instrumentals were sound, few songs stuck with me emotionally but some did not. Showcases Radioheads talent.
Like most Radiohead albums, I must be missing something. I find it very hard to connect to this music.
A couple of good songs, the rest were pretty boring
I wrote a really long review about how this album was okay and listenable/enjoyable after my first listen. Then I listened to it a second time. And a third. Then a fourth - and finally made up my mind: this album is shit. If you removed the vocals from this album you could easily throw this into the background music of a video game from 2005 (specifically the part where nothing happens and you're just exploring). The only song that was the exception to this rule was Idioteque. I had so many questions during my listen through: What was the point of this album? What message was it trying to convey? Who is this records' target audience? I left with more questions than answers. What a mystifying album, in both a good and a bad way. I don't know what I think about this album. In some ways I absolutely hate it, and can't stand certain songs. But then, when I think of the album as a whole? It wasn't /that/ bad. By my third listen through I decided I'd had enough and the album really goes nowhere, and has no point to make. It's boring. It had potential, and my first listen through was definitely exciting in trying to unravel the mystery that is this album.
when radiohead began entering its boring as fuck arc. pablo honey honey bangs, bends is okay, okc was a return to form and then kid a and onwards were just cashgrabs or them falling off or some shit because holy fuck how did such an experimental band become so boring. they went from having these sweeping, epic orchestral songs, intense gritty rock and incredibly blown out, somber tracks to being the most fucking generic rock band ever. its so boring. they throw some reverb in there and have thom get killed in the balls then whine in the highest register ever and internet contrarians will tell you this was actually their best, most under appreciated release. listen to something else, they've done better, and so can most halfway competent alt rock artists.
What a drag this album was. There are the inklings of good ambient music here. I can’t really positively review Merriweather post pavilion and then say I hated this, because they have sort of a similar feeling. Again like weird adventure time sad moment background music. But Tom Yorke has such a mewling annoying voice on this album and 90% of the time he sounds like he’s trying to sing while sucking off megatron. I liked optimistic.
Yeah so Radiohead, I don't mind some of their songs but i enjoy them in a vacuum and not all together in an album. It didn't help that i didn't really like any of these songs on this album either tbh. Gonna go with a 2/5 on this one, i like some of their other music but not this album.
weird & whiny
I remember that I “didn’t get” this album when it first came out. Was willing to give it a listen with an open mind but it still sounds mostly pretensious and self-satisfied. Give me more rhythm!
Boring electronic music with occasional mumble-droning from the singer. 2nd half was better than 1st half. 2.5 stars. 4 albums in and I still don't understand why people like this band so much. Stand-out: Morning Bell
Another 45 minutes of Radiohead sniffing their own farts.
to mellow airy for me
Why the hell is radioheads entire damn catalog on this list?
God I hated this. Maybe I just don't "get it" because I know this album is critically acclaimed but for me it just doesn't do it. I'll try and listen to it again with an open mind and not expecting it to sound like Radiohead's older stuff but Jesus Christ on first listen that was tough to get through.
Not what I expected of Radiohead, to be honest.
Utterly depressing and boring to boot - but not actively bad
Almost fell asleep
An ok album
God i wish i liked Radiohead
so boring
So I put my hand up here and say I was defo one of those people who through a strop at this coming out after OK Computer (clearly a 5* album), given it was such a stark difference. Kinda made me give up on Radiohead for years afterwards (so this album defo scores a 5 in terms of ‘1001 albums that have totally and unexpectedly baffled their fan base’ category). I have since gone back through their albums, and while I’m not a staunch fan at all, their later stuff it has a dark edged but chilled vibe I like. Kid A, however, does not. It really does sound like a lot of experimentation in sounds and styles which makes it incredibly disjointed, and Thom Yorker’s vocals are quite whiny and annoying on this one (he usually finds a better balance). The only redeeming features for me are the first track, which has a gorgeous keyboard sound, and to me is more of a model of the sound they ultimately carried on with (that I like at least). National Anthem had nice bass and percussion. However, this is one of those ‘what’s this doing on this list’ albums for me, given pretty much their entire back catalogue is better. So does that mean they’re all on this list?!
I've never intentionally listened to Radiohead (other than hearing Creep on the radio now and then) and always assumed that I wouldn't like it. I wasn't wrong... but also, it was not at all what I expected. Really diverse sounds that are interesting from a composition lens. Random screeching layered with brass and delicate keyboard. Some tracks like Treefingers are just tones, almost spa-like. Still a one-hit wonder to me.
It wasn't quite annoying enough to turn off, but I kept thinking a cat needed help somewhere nearby.
Radiohead just doesn’t speak to me
I don’t get Radiohead
National Anthem trumpet/drums outro cacophony is perfection. Couldn’t even get through the rest of it.
This one misses a lot more than hits.
Oh, that was disappointing.
Wasn't feeling it, not a fan of Radiohead personally
You say idioteque, I say idiotique
Didn't bother me at all, but it's too pretentious and deliberately obscure for my taste. Can't seem to get into the state of mind required to vibe with the music.
I hoped coming back to this that I'd find something new but no, it's just an atonal mess. Self indulgent, and I guess what you can do with a major label recording contract and some hits behind you. Spend months producing sonic soundscapes without any tunes.
Not my thing
Great vibey, ambient stuff, but just not for me.
Wow another Radiohead album, thanks. I thought I was starting to understand their appeal with “Idioteque” which I enjoyed but that was the only song i liked.
A little too spacey for my tastes. Very abstract and difficult to latch onto. Not my favorite work by Radiohead.
Some of the music is OK but Thom, shut the fuck up. 1.54
4>6>5>7>10>3>2>9>11>>>>>1>8
I was not a fan at all of this album. I like Creep but had not really listened to other Radiohead, but if this album is at all representative I think they are not for me. Some of it was way too cacophonous and other parts were really bland.
A bit whiny
Prototype music to disassociate to. Never feels like it builds to a crescendo. Overall not for me.
Brutal
Not my favourite Radiohead era. Everything and Idioteque are great.
No
Sopii yliopisto-opiskelijoiden "patonki ja viini"-iltojen taustalle. How to Disappear Completely ja Idioteque tuovat jotain uutta pöydälle.
Another Radiohead album. Another slog through 90s melancholy. Their music is like modern art. I don't get it.
The most enjoyment I got out of this album is when it ended. The maybe two semi decent songs did not make up for the rest of this incredibly boring album. I think creep is the only good song I’ve ever heard from Radiohead, and this album has proved that I am not a fan.
Atmospheric, almost soundtrack-ey. Pretty slow
Terrible
I think this one needs more time to really stretch its legs, but there are plenty of options that don't.
Just boring. There are moments that feel like you haven't been paying attention, then you come out of it for a few minutes. It is just background music and vocals that just sound like he doesn't want you to understand. I don't like Radiohead
I did like it, and there was at least one song i took note of, but it kind of just became background noise for me? But that could be more because of me than the album, tho
Off to a good start, great layers and texture, then descended into whiny sludge. Almost redeemed by Idioteque, but I was uninvested by that point.
Oh god, make it stop. Who thinks this is enjoyable to listen to? Awful, no discernable tunes. I hated it from start to finish.
I just don’t get Radiohead. A couple of songs I had to skip past because they got annoying.
I know the name of the band and i dont like this sound much.
I got excited a couple of times when I thought I heard the beginnings of an actual song. False alarm. Just another abstract, meandering mess. 2 stars.
Moany Radiohead. As expected!
Good music to sleep to
While i appreciate Radiohead, most of their music has never resonated with me. Extremely talented and successful band but not my speed. Take this review with a grain of salt.
uf! qué pereza!
Meh the music couldn’t grab my attention throughout this album. Not my thing.
Favorites: How To Disappear Completely Optimistic Motion Picture Soundtrack
Definitely dark and gloomy. There were a couple moments in this album that sounded really beautiful. I appreciate the dreamy sounds in this one accompanied by a prominent baseline. However, these moments were few and far between so I never really got sucked into this album. How To Disappear Completely was by far my favorite. The ending of Tree fingers was good too. I can understand the love for Radiohead, as they have a very unique and melancholy sound, but it's just not the stuff for me. I really tried to justify a 3 here for Kev, but I couldn't find it in this album.
Felt like I was listening to robot ghosts. Not really my jam.
ok, not my thing
Expected more
Too experimental, uneasy listen.
Unlistenable
Sometimes I have listened to Rufus Wainwright, bridging the gap. I can't stop seeing snobbery if you like this... Sorry!
I can hear why some people like this music. But, wasn’t for me (although I was working out while listening).
Made it to Track 4
Well… that was somber. Except for that one song with the horns. If they wanted to make an album to sound like a rainy, cold day they nailed it. Not really my style and I’m sure some people love it. Not for me. 2/5
Really not my style
All over the place some Radiohead sound some jazz? 2/5
Not my favorite radio head album.
mid. however i see how this album inspired and or was sampled by famous artists, and is therefore a good album because it was influential
This is an album I feel like I should like, and I’ve tried to like, but I just can’t get into it. Thom York’s voice is just too whiney for me to enjoy. I kinda liked In Rainbows and even their newest one a good bit more than Kid A.
Overall vibes: This album reminds me of when I was in my late teens/early 20's, would go to the sketchy part of Baltimore to a basement show, and there would always be that one solo electronica act. There would be at least one person in the crowd like, "Yea dude, I can totally feel his internal struggle between good and evil through that F#minor chord he's holding." Anyway, this isn't personally my cup of tea, but I'm happy I got the chance to break out of my musical comfort zone and hear something I would've never listened to otherwise. I think all the songs dragged on a bit too long and could've probably been about 30 seconds to a minute shorter. I wouldn't say I had any favorite songs, but the most tolerable songs to me were The National Anthem (probably ranked highest for me), Optimistic, and Idioteque. Honorable mention here would be that I liked that one discordant chord that was held throughout How to Disappear Completely, in contrast to the rest of the song.
I had this album when it came out because everyone said Radiohead was so amazing and revolutionary. It was so boring and overrated. Now hearing it again 20 years later, it’s still boring and overrated, but a little better on headphones. The dude cannot sing and there’s much better electronic music out there.
I know of Radiohead but this album was not the sound I was expecting. Granted, the reviews say that this album marked a shift in their style, dropping from traditional rock music. It has an electronic sound with many instrumentals and eerie vocals. I did not enjoy this album as the vibes were sad and dystopian. Some tracks I did like the best were: How to Disappear Completely and Morning Bell. I think I’d listen to more of Radiohead’s earlier music as they were on my list to check out but definitely not listening to this album again.
I don't think I'm ever going to be a fan of Radiohead. Their albums are always on someone's "best ever' list, so I've listened to them at various times over the last 15 years. This album was more enjoyable than others I've heard, but it does very little for me.
Alright this is the album that makes me fall in love with Radiohead! edit: Nope. But it helped honestly. I still don't care for Thom's lyrics or the way he chooses to deliver them but I like his voice. The Instrumentation is where this one stood out to me most. A little repetitive but well constructed. Still not my thing but I've warmed up a little. 2
Rather boring unless you visualize a psycho movie. I think they could make good movie music.
Ok Album, I think I'd like it more but it feels like Radiohead becomes oversaturated so fast as soon as they come out.
This may be great background music for a gallery or ultra modern café; it's just not my listening taste.
I've never really gotten the appeal of Radiohead. This album didn't help. From the description I was excited, but actually listening.. It was kind of, boring? Still don't get them.
Not great, didn't like the sounds why the beginning
Dette var litt kjedelig album synes jeg
I don't think Radioheads for me
The album is alright. Nothing mind blowing but I’m not a huge Radiohead fan so 🤷♂️
Intro ist gut, ansonsten eher so meh
Cinematic but found it a bit boring at times. Liked "Idioteque" the best.
Its just a profoundly odd album. And not in a good way
Radiohead is overrated as fuck.
worse than their greys anatomy stuff
Another average radiohead album. 2.5
I know people love this shit, but idk if I’m not depressed enough or what I just don’t get it
Uncomfortable listening. Not necessarily in a bad way. Not their best work but a few decent songs.
Not sure I'm on the radiohead bandwagon. This album is kind of creepy. I listened to it easily enough but I don't want to listen to it again really. All I felt was creepy. That's not an emotion I really want from my music.
I love ok Computer but this was too Radiohead for me
Just a lot of noise. Too experimental for me
Set this one up before a 30 minute treadmill dash, and once I hit Start there's no stopping. That's the rule. Reader, even David Goggins would have quit after 2 minutes here. Putting rocks in my shoes would have delivered a more pleasant experience. We get it. Radiohead despise the fans who loved Creep. This album is their self-indulgent two fingers to them. From the shitty drum machine to the banal lyrics, it's deliberately impossible to enjoy. I think you're supposed to admire it. I hated it.
It's got my favourite Radiohead song so it's not all bad
I know they are good musicians but their music just does not really ouch me at all. It gets two stars because of the excellent songwriting otherwise it would be one
Meh
An eerie album to listen to at 5am, driving down a curvy, quiet valley floor road in the dark; which is when I first sample these albums. After three songs I grew bored. I can imagine how this was revolutionary, new, hip, interesting, difficult to get your head around in a good way, in 2000 when it was released ; before the boom of robot music everywhere. But now this type of music exists... in a -more- interesting way. I'm sure many would criticize me for saying so. I respect their creativity and ambition for creating this type of sound before it was popularized. I respect the platform that they created for electronic/art rock. But I was bored. As my father said 'an acquired taste'.
"Where'd you park the car? Where'd youuuuu paaaarkkk the caaaaaar...." I don't know, why are you asking me?? Gahh!
I just don't get it.
Wanted to like it. But it’s really more of a play with a bit of electro kit. Maybe I’m not refined enough to get it.
I do enjoy Radiohead but this album is a little more trippy and synthy than The Bends and OK Computer which for me are their best albums.
Probably an important album, but hard to get in to. Not my jam.
Not for me.
Too slow in my opinion
Not really a Radiohead fan, though this album was....different.
-FIRST RADIOHEAD ALBUM! -never actually fully listened to them so im excited -but im like pretty sure i have heard this first song before -loving the silly voice filtering -okay the national anthem was just a bunch of crazy noises -i hate to say it because its radiohead……none of this has been that interesting to me thus far -i do like in limbo -motion picture soundtrack is beautifully eerie -this is a 2 star album for me, just because it doesn’t stand out to me and it faded in the background for me
This is one of those albums I feel is a prank. I have heard a few radiohead songs and like them quite a bit. There's only 2 songs on this album and 1 is quite good. The rest feels like competent, though still uninteresting and frustrating, experimental music.
I have always wanted to like Radiohead. To me, they're the kimchi of music...on paper, I should like them. I'm interested in them. Tom York seems like a cool guy! My wife loves 'em! (And kimchi.) But no matter how many times I go back expecting my tastes to have changed, I'm just reminded that I don't want to move past the first song. Kid A though I find ever-so-slightly better than The Bends. It's just, if I was 9 and had a Casio keyboard...I too could make soundscapes and call it music. And I could sing unintelligible words that nobody can understand. And I could put a 9 minute track next to a 50 second track. But alas, I'm not that talented. So I give this two stars. Two stars more than I'd give The Bends.
Some good songs. A lot of whiny, bland songs. Not their best.
3rd one down... I find them so boring.
cacophony
Kokeellinen
Amei, nota 2.
So overrated
Not really my thing.
Yeah I can’t stand Radiohead. It’s just not for me
Sorry, just don't get Radiohead. No matter how many times I try. I appreciate the departure from typical rock, and if you enjoy music as experimental art this is your bag. I can give it points for that. However an album still needs to be pleasing listening and barring one song (Treefingers) Kid A is just not that.
Sorry, I just don’t get Radiohead. Never have. Great background music while I was doing my stretching exercises this morning. Best I can say about this cd.
Just plain sad music. I don’t mind a few Radiohead songs, but this album is too depressing and slow for me. Listen again: no Purchase for my collection: no Favourite Song:
after the album Spotify linked ones that are more my jam. It just kinda made this one seem "meh" by comparison.
Just a few songs amongst the textures and moodscapes (everything, national anthem, idioteque, optimistic). Amazingly it actually translates well to a concert setting, but I’m not all that impressed by the album as a whole.
Started off okay, but I was pretty bored by the end.
Wow, this even makes their later albums seem like music for a kiddies birthday party. Never have I felt so depressed.
Top Songs: How To Disappear Completely Optimistic I understand why it is liked with how different it is esp it being made in the year 2000 but for me except the 2 songs above all the songs are random words and noises :)
If you could record the sound of tedium, it would sound like exactly like this.
Dull
The 4th attempt by the generator to turn be on to Radiohead. The first 3 made inroads with the occasional decent song, but ultimately failed unspectacularly. There are really creative instrumentals on this album. National Anthem in particular was cool with it's modern jazz vibes. But Thom Yorke's voice ruins everything. Just the anticipation of his whiny modulated moans coming in every time I start getting into a good beat or melody fills me with dread and revulsion. Go suck a lemon Yorke. Go suck two. 🍋🍋
This album is not my cup of tea. Otters are good
Andra hälften av plattan bättre än första
inte bra tyvärr
Inte helt min melodi, rätt trippy.
Too broody
RADIO HEAD IS BAD AND I DON’T UNDERSTAND HOW ANYONE LIKES THEM An hour of thom yorke moaning into a microphone. I do think I enjoyed this listen more than I have in the past, there is definitely some cool production throughout but I still unapologetically hate radiohead and am sad there is going to be 5+ more of their albums on this list
Bland. First few tracks are pretty bad. Don't know why Radiohead get the hype they get. Just made me feel like I'd rather be listening to Muse.
Boring
Meh, not so interesting
2-3
Eep a bit too experimental for my taste
fucking hate it, so overwhelming, sounds like a bunch of noise
I want to like Radiohead. I want to like this album. But frustratingly I do not. At all. I think maybe I would like it with different (or no) vocals. I can't be sure of that, but it doesn't matter, because this is the album we have. That said I have no quarrel with Kid A being on this list.
I hate this. I hate Radiohead.
Nah
It was okay, gloomy but not necessarily my type of sad. Best song was probably the first one, the rest were pretty cool ahead of their time beats.
Album seemed a bit all over the place. No real link between songs
This is the album where they went off the rails.
I know Radiohead are considered one of the best bands, but I just don't get this album. It sounds so experimental, without having any feeling. Technologically I'm sure it's great, but it has no soul.
I've tried to get into this album a few times, I just really can't.
I was surprised by how much I disliked this one. There is some Radiohead I like, OK Computer is fine, Creep is great. But I don't get this album at all.
No me gusta Radiohead.
Like Radiohead but never listened to Kid A, started well but the sparse quiet electronic thing isn't interesting enough to carry a whole album, pretty disappointing
Just not a Radiohead fan.
I haven't really listened to much Radiohead, was a lot more instrumental than I expected. Thought it was okay, I may enjoy it more with subsequent listens.
Felt a little empty on some songs, a little too complicated on others. I liked the vibe they tried to go with, but it really hits best on 2 or 3 songs and the rest are very forgettable.
I'm just not a radiohead fan. Oh well. No hate given.
pretty good. kinda weird i like their other stuff i found b4 this project more like karma police and creep and burn the witch and the one from romeo + juliet but 🤷🏾♀️ for the time period i'm sure ppl were freaking OUT abt the chopped n screwed treatment of chunes
Everything in its right place. Track and a half. How to disappear completely. Oh my dear heaven in jeebus, I need to slit my own wrists. Overall this album is bad. The production value is there. An abundance of talent is evident. But why focus that all, laser-beam tight, on making you miserable? Yeah, no. Couple of very good tracks, but it doesn't make up for being crybaby music.
1/10, 10%
I like Radiohead but this album was quite boring. There were no memorable songs and i just found myself wanting it to end
My attention is starting to wander. How to Disappear Completely is the song that makes your attention disappear. It's also grating enough to keep you listening while you really want to do something else. In Limbo is closer to in hell. No. Just no. I approached this album with trepidation when I read that it was Radiohead goes electronic/ambient. They manage to salvage some intriguing sounds, but hearing Yorke whining over repetitive beats isn't a pleasant experience. The big question. Is the drop in quality from OK Computer to this badly polished turd, the biggest in the history of music? Sometimes, it's what you hear after the album finishes that tells the story. I was barely paying attention when a crunching riff backed by a driving rhythm came on. It's Queens of the Stone Age. It's the chaser that I badly needed.
Most of it was two or three notes played over and over with a beat. Lyrics were incoherent. Kind of dreamlike and trippy though, so I'll give it a point for that.
not my style, didn't like it
I feel like this album was where I started losing interest in what Radiohead were producing. I remember at the time really not understanding what the reasoning was behind their change in direction, whilst my musical tastes were becoming a lot more varied this kind of experimental noise rock/electronica was not as appealing. Definitely not a bad album, having just re listened to it for the first time in years I can see the appeal and respect the bands choices to move forward rather that stay stagnant, but the album just feels disconnected as a whole.
excellent sound. Really enjoyed it.
I'm not high enough for this.
Blasphemy? I don’t know. But this was a 2.5 album for me. Didn’t hate it but not something that I love. Definitely deserves to be on the list, but this just isn’t my every day music. Rounding down because I’m sick of white men creaming themselves over Radiohead.
I think I saw Radiohead twice as a support band before they were famous, (once supporting the Frank and Walters, I can't remember the other time) something that only became interesting once they did become famous. It wasn't something that happened seeing them play. Loved The Bends Loved OK Computer Seeing them headline one of the nights at Glastonbury in 1997 was one of the greatest shows I've ever seen. Hated Kid A (mostly) Never been able to quite put my finger on why. Some good songs (esp 'The National Anthem') but patchy, Starts well, but well before the end I'm bored by it. Sometimes I think it's because I bought it on the 10" double vinyl and it's just annoying to have to turn it over ever three songs. I keep going back it but even on streaming it just doesn't improve, which is sad because it's largely when I stopped listening to Radiohead. Saw them again at Glastonbury around 'Hail to The Thief' and songs from that album were so much better live than on the album. Seriously good live band.
3.5/10
Bit too messy and muddled for my liking and even when it wasn't muddy, it was boring
It was interesting but really wasn't for me. This seems like it wasn't meant to be listened to sober.
I can appreciate the different layers of music but not as enjoyable.
ok
Boring
more like radio headache
Nope
Not my favorite, just kind of meh in my opinion.
this album was not in my musical wheelhouse
OK Computer man myself. Rest of Radiohead is just pretentious wank.
NAH
Not too impressed. Don't think I've ever heard this entire album before, but on this listening the only song I liked was "Optimistic". The rest kind of blend together. Might be good as background music though.
This is about the moment I think Radiohead became a bit too indie for me. I know lots of people love it but I struggle with this. I like the cinematic aspects of the songs but struggle to connect with it. 2/5
Vähän jopa ärsyttävä levy. Ei sovi krapulaan.
Fuck no. Ihme, että jaksoin loppuun asti. Vaatinee eksaktin fiiliksen, jotta tätä voi pitää hyvänä levynä.
Just ok about 4 songs in so far. 2 stars
Techno shit. Is niet echt mijn smaak. Geen reden om nog eens te luisteren. Tegenvaller.
more experimental than I normally like
Some very good tracks, mostly just dull vibes.
I will never understand the excitement around Radiohead. Period. Just mediocre.
No thanks.
Nota:3/10
Can do better. Kid B-
It was just okay on the one listen I've given it. Will provably go back and give it so more tries because it was interesting, just not what I was expecting as the follow-up to Paranoid Android.
Ainoastaan kaksi laikkaa tältä makuupaikalta sai Kid A alas, muut laukauksista sujahti penkkaan.
Out of every Radiohead album, this is my least favorite. When compared to Ok Computer, The Bends, or Pablo Honey, I just can't rate this well.
Eh
I think I would like it more on repeated listens but not really grabbing me.
5
Anxiety inducing by the end
Not super into radio head
Experimental Radiohead sound, not much more.
Not good by any means.
Total snooze fest until it’s not and then it just sucks
Reading how highly acclaimed this album is made me feel like I was losing my mind. Music is art and art is subjective but I still think there needs to be a baseline of listenability. Here the music is either dreadfully boring or unlistenable (robot sounds, circus sounds, etc.). Wikipedia tells me that Thom Yorke "wrote abstract lyrics, cutting up phrases and assembling them at random." Maybe if this was 1001 puzzles to do before you die it would be more highly ranked for me.
😖
just yuck
Furchtbar
OMG - fuck these guys
absolutely hate radiohead
what... the.... fuck?
I found this mind numbinglt boring
Great album if you are depressed and on a lot of drugs
Dull and repetitive.
Why are all the Radiohead albums so... unpleasant? "Idioteque" made me want to tear my hair out. The rest was no better. This was actively annoying to listen to.
This is the fourth Radiohead album I've been subjected to on this list. Like the previous three, I fucking hate it. I really don't understand why they are so heavily represented. They don't seem to offer much. Its all the same shit. There's not much to it. I would really like to have someone explain the appeal of this band because I don't get it. At all.
Worst album I’ve ever heard
I'm not here. This isn't happening. I'm not here. I'm not here. Except it did happen. And it sucked.
What was the fucking point of this?
Just noise
Kid A is the sixth Radiohead album I’ve listened to as part of this challenge, and they remain one of the most hit-and-miss bands for me. Looking back at my ratings so far, I’ve scored their albums anywhere between a 1 and a 4, which probably says everything about how inconsistent my experience with them has been. Unfortunately, Kid A falls firmly into the “miss” category for me. I can appreciate the atmosphere they are trying to create and the experimental direction of the album, but a lot of it just feels like ambient noise drifting by without much substance. Outside of a couple of standout moments, I found the album incredibly difficult to connect with and at times almost forgot it was even playing. That said, there are still flashes of quality here. “Everything in Its Right Place” creates a really interesting mood and “How to Disappear Completely” is genuinely a beautiful song. The problem for me is that too much of the album sacrifices melody and memorable songwriting in favour of atmosphere and experimentation. Favourite tracks: “How to Disappear Completely” and “Everything in Its Right Place” Least favourite tracks: Tracks like “Treefingers” are just painfully boring to me Album artwork: Cool album cover
5/17 Boring as fuck
I don’t have much to say other than I didn’t care for this or the previous album.
First rock album I gave up on
No. Unfortunate, how overrated this is. No cap either, not trying to be contrarian, they made profoundly uninteresting music. Listen to Talk Talk, Bark Psychosis and Disco Inferno instead
