Fuck Kanye West

Fuck Kanye

what a c**t

Fck nazis

Pretty decent - shame it's by Kanye West. -3 stars for that.

Never liked Kanye personality or music

Didn't listen, do lnt want to support Kanye

aside from him being a nazi i also don’t like his music

Nah, I'm good. I've listened to this album plenty in the past, back when I could do so and actually enjoy it. Kanye has gone so off the rails that I have no interest in streaming his music and supporting him. I know he struggles with mental health issues and I hope he figures it out but he's also an anti-Semite, so I just can't enjoy his music and put that all out of my head. Standout Tracks: N/A

I don't give money to nazis.

Eat a dick Kanye

Not remotely interested even if it’s a good listen

Even if Kanye didn’t go off the deep end, this album still would have aged poorly. Generic pop sound with incredibly cringy lyrics. Somehow this album is cheesier than Meatloaf… and I don’t think that was intentional. This is probably Kanye’s most famous album, but it lacks the wit and charm from his previous work. Blame game is good tho. 1.5/5

Almost gave this a pass, but if I could make it through Radiohead and The Flying Burrito Brothers, I can put up with this. The hubris, egocentrism, and sheer audacity that is Kanye are in full effect here, especially on the spoken word cringe fest "Blame Game'. That is an excellent song if you've ingested a household cleaner and need to induce vomiting.

OK, so I didn't rate Ye before he became a literal advocate for nazis. Now he's a literal advocate for nazis he's gonna straight up not get the play time from me. As I've gotten to the end of the project - almost two years to the day after I was first recommended this shitting dicknipple's album - I am obliged to actually rate it. While he has (kind of) apologised for the nazi stuff, he's not actually done anything to properly distance himself from it, or shown any hint of attempting to not be any less of a repugnant human being. Do yourself a favour. Instead of listening to this album, look up Garfunkel and Oates asking their audience "Who said it - Kanye or Hitler?", which they uploaded to YouTube in *2009* for crying out lout.

I’m not listening to this man’s music.

I can appreciate rap and although the production of this album is excellent the subject matter sucks.

Listened to 5 tracks or so while running. Some of the hooks are catchy and fun, but the lyrics in the rap are really lame, and offensive. Felt like the best bits were the bits Kanye was not doing (singing etc)

Höre keine Musik von Trump Supportern

This $h!t is F***ing ridiculous!! The best was good and catchy. But honestly it sounds like Kanye had his hand wrapped around his junk the whole time because he was just all about himself. Don’t think I’d listen to this again. Just not good lyrically. The only reason it’s getting 1 star is because the music was good. If there was a karaoke version of this album with no lyrics I’d enjoy that.

Absolute shite!

Awful. I couldn't listen to the whole album. I wish I could set fewer than 1 star.

I didn't want to like this. But I did.

Kanye’s magnum opus. Even if he, in the last few years, turned out to be a really bad person, his first five or six albums are really great, with this as his masterpiece.

im not sure ive ever sat down and listened to this in full, but ive heard all of these songs many times before. the lyrics were out of pocket at the time, even more so now, but the production on this album is great and almost every song is a banger. normally id complain about the length but this didnt feel nearly as long as it actually is.

Monumental. Hate the player sometimes but the game on display here is completely next-level. Baroque production yet somehow still direct and DIY. Manic money dick-swinging and some degenerate subject matter but also somehow vulnerable, searingly-honest and self aware. A collaboration roster like never seen, from Raekwon to Bon Iver. Samples running a gamut from King Crimson to Aphex Twin and beyond. A long record but it doesn't feel like it to me; the sequencing is almost flawless and captures your attention over the full 68 minutes. It's a magpie patchwork, grabbing ideas, influences, sometimes whole tracks from all over. But it still all comes out feeling like the vision of a single auteur. Does it knowingly mark the high tide point of Ye's career? As a whole, I reckon this is stronger than anything he released up to that point - and evidence suggests he might not get back to this level again. Not sure if I'm mental on this one but I reckon this might be one of the best albums of the last 20 years. Fuck it, it's a five.

I really, really wanted to hate this, but even with my most critical listening, I couldn't find any fault whatsoever. It's an easy five star album, breathtakingly good, but many of the artists here are total pieces of shit, so go figure. I had mixed feelings when artists I do like showed up. When I heard RZA's distinctive voice kick in I went back and looked at the list of guest artists. Raekwon was also a guest, but I missed that on the first listen. I couldn't unhear Niki Minaj however, one of the most vile people walking this planet. Even though she's a dreadful person, I felt it would be petty to dock a point for the short time she's around. The production is outstanding. The samples are quite boggling, particularly when King Crimson kicks in. It's five stars, but leaves me feeling tainted for giving that score.

Damn, this sounds so good still, with not much trace of the cliff he was about to run off, both personally and musically.

I was thirteen when this album came out. This was the best summer of my life. My friends and I had enough autonomy to spend the days outside from 8 am to ~ whenever my mom called and asked if I was spending the night at a friends house. We were late to the game, but this was the summer of Kanye West and rap music. Funny thinking back, imagining a group of 8 of the whitest kids you've ever seen riding bikes and scooters and skateboards in a California suburb. Hell, my baseball team would play this nonstop when the coaches weren't listening. But there we were, young, dumb, and newly acquainted to rap, straight from the greatest rap album of all time nonetheless. I think I might have listened to this album 100+ times that summer. It changed the concept of music for me, and changed what I believed music could be. I had absolutely no connection to the lyrics, the style, or the messaging in any of these songs, but man, I couldn't get enough. Fast forward to 2026. Kanye, for all intents and purposes, is a despicable human being. I have no good words to say for or about him. I do not respect him or his beliefs on any level. His music post TLOP is unlistenable, for both its musical contents, antisemitism, and its message. I will not listen to a new Kanye album ever again. Separating the art from the artist, this is a perfect album, and one of the 5 greatest albums of all time, to me. Fuck Kanye West, forever and always; but you can not deny this masterpiece. Best Song: Devil in a New Dress Rating: 10/10 Stars: 5

How do I rate one of the greatest albums of a generation after its maker becomes a Nazi?

Some of Ye’s best. Sad to see where he’s at now

I've barely heard any of Kanye's music before. No, I'm not living under a rock. I love a lot of rap and R&B, but it's 80s/90s music (Janet Jackson, Jodeci, LL Cool J, New Edition, etc.). More recent stuff is just not my thing. This album proves I have been missing out. In short, this record is great. Some rappers come out and drop heavy beats with strong lyrics, but limited musicality behind it. What's here is so much more flushed out than what other artists can bring. There are tons of excellent songs on this. My favorites: Power - A crescendo about the personal issues and different views in Kanye's head. Awesome. All of the Lights - Yeah, it's a contradiction, but the underlying message is great and the chorus around lights here is amazing. This song is an incredible composition. The bonus is Rhianna on here, who brings her great voice to a tremendous track. Runaway - At first, with the single piano note, I was thinking this is stupid and how is this going to be 9+ minutes long. Then the track built and I actually think it's amazing how this song is constructed around that single piano note every few beats. A really, really cool track. Lost In The World - There's a celebratory feel to this tune. A bit repetitive, but I liked this. There's plenty of other tracks on this that were cool, these are just the ones that stood out to me. Is he crazy? Maybe. But he made a really complex record that was a complete and great one. 5 stars.

Heck yes. There's a lot of lot of terrible people in showbusiness but this album is great.

What Kanye needs is for Harley Pasternak and the Mossad to leave him alone. He's not insane, he was made insane. This is truly a masterpiece. "Well gather around children, zip it, listen... Can we get much higher?" 5/5

My favorite album of all time

Great album

Alright, you know the drill by now. Fuck Kanye and everything that he's become, but this album is genuinely fantastic. This, of course, is Kanye West's legendary 2010 album, My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy. This is one of those albums that just feels like a big deal. Of course, it was a big deal when it released. This was Kanye's first release after the whole VMAs fiasco, so all eyes were on him to see what kind of thing he makes. What did he end up putting out? Well, let's put it this way. This is an album all about fame and the life of a celebrity. This album reportedly cost over $3 million dollars to make. This album should seem incredibly out-of-touch and over-the-top and even embarrassing. And yet, despite all of that, this album has managed to strike a chord in millions of listeners and is one of the most acclaimed hip-hop albums of all time. This album shouldn't work, but it does. MBDTF is a lot of things, many of which I have just acknowledged. But I think the most important thing that it is (for the sake of this review) is really really good. Yeah, the album's good. I think I get why people were so mad when Fantano gave it a 6. To be fair, I don't know if I'd give it a 10/10, but it's closer than I'd like to admit. Let's praise the album, shall we? The production is just insane and I love it. That's the thing that's really connected the three Kanye albums I've listened to so far in terms of quality for me. Whether it's The College Dropout's chipmunk-soul vibes to the sheer maximalist excess of MBDTF to whatever the fuck was going on in Yeezus, there's something that's undeniably cool about Kanye's production. And the samples? Name any other album that samples Aphex Twin, Smokey Robinson, and King Crimson, I dare you. Good stuff. The writing is pretty complex. Is it accurate to call this a concept album? I think so. The album really likes to tackle the subject of fame. As stated earlier, this is the kind of thing that could go really poorly but ends up working really well to create an interesting vibe for the album. It's just introspective enough to feel like a person made it yet also arrogant enough to remind you that this is Kanye we're talking about. The album sees him diving a bit into his issues back when the biggest things he had to worry about were liking sex too much and not liking Hitler too much. It also helps that there aren't too many lines on here that are super questionable like there were on Yeezus. The themes are explored in interesting ways and you get insight into a pretty interesting character. The rapping is solid all throughout. Kanye's flow is good, as is that of all of the features on this album. The features make this album for me. There is not a bad one in the bunch. The songs as a whole? Great. There really isn't a bad one in the bunch. You know me. I love me some long-ass songs, so it's no surprise that I love "Runaway." The piano, the unique chorus, Pusha T. Everything about it works. "POWER" is super cool too. Again. This song samples King motherfucking Crimson. Of course I love it. Even the less-popular songs are good. The fact that "So Appalled" is one of the least-popular songs on the album goes to show how good this thing is. I hate to say it, but Kanye West was super talented at one point. I must reiterate once again that I hate Kanye as a person. He sucks. But his music? It may not be good now, but to say that he never deserved fame in the first place would just be ignorant of how good albums like MBDTF are. I do think I slightly prefer The College Dropout, but My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy deserves the praise it's gotten over the past 15 years. It's great. 5/5.

love the album, sad for the artist

Production on this album is insane, as everyone before me has already said. Everything sounds very intentionally crafted, and it really pays off. It's incredible how many iconic songs from the early 2010s all come from this album. Rating this is hard, because while the production is insane and the songs are very iconic, he's a trash human being, and I think that slips out into his lyrics every once in a while. I don't think it's a 10/10 because of that. But God damn is this a really good album. It's also just incredibly high quality from beginning to end. Even the non-hits are just really good songs. Favorite Song(s): POWER, All of the Lights, Devil in a New Dress, Runaway

“Greatest ever” gets thrown around a little too easily sometimes, but greatest rap album ever? Definitely on the Mt. Rushmore. Fuck this dude on every level as a human, but this is a no skips album. Monster” has lived rent free in my subconscious for a decade and a half.

I’ve listened to this album more times than I can count. It’s what first got me into Kanye. Not a bad song on here, most are amazing.

Some brilliance from Kanye West, back before he was a full-on nut job. Just a semi nut job.

Kanye West: 👎 My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy: 👍👍

“Ain’t no question if I want it, I need it” and by “it” I mean the old Kanye

Picked this up on the strength of "Runaway" and a Pitchfork 10/10 (hey, it was the Obama days). Overcome by a braggadocious wall of noise, I didn't give it a second listen. But today, with hindsight: wow, this is absolutely *too much* in just the right way, and I finally understand why pre-Nazi Kanye was so highly feted. Incredible production, witty and funny lyrics (if frequently reflecting obvious insecurities), populated by a wealth of talent all throwing high quality shit at the wall. Only low point is the piss-weak warbling of Justin Vernon (dreading "For Emma..." if it shows up here). Strongest parts have their roots deep in prog (goddam, "Dark Fantasy": where did he hear the original?!), potentially inspiring me to dig into the Gentle Giant back catalog and make my fortune. Watch this space.. I really didn't want to give this top marks, but I've been impulsively listening to it all weekend, and even sat through some of the rest of his output (Yeezus is the closest, the earlier stuff is awful). Uneasy 5*

Kayne’s masterpiece, the one album I can forgive how much of a dickhead he is and just enjoy. I honestly believe this is Hip Hop’s equivalent of Dark Side of the Moon, just a shame Kayne is a bigger twat than Roger Waters.

I didn’t want to rate this a 5 going into it because I don’t think this is the best album we’ve had and, if I rated it a 5, it would surely steal that spot. However, I’ve been swayed. This thing is awesome. Combining the fast beat and rap vocals with really dramatic backing vocals and other instruments worked really well. Runaway is a classic as well obviously

Ridiculously good album. Kanye is king of the assholes, but the album rules.

Whilst some of his opinions and world views are a little..... Unorthodox, this for me is one of the greatest albums ever made. The production is insane, the storytelling and imagery he creates with his wordplay is sublime. The album dips a little in the middle after monster but recovers from runway onwards...(Except that "Yeezy taught me" nonsense). Just an incredible album.

Hip hop is my lowest rated genre, but holy smokes this is great! More progressive rap please — and some mental health care for Kanye, while you're at it.

The perfect summation of Kanye West's career to this point. It really sucks that it all goes wildly downhill from here

Rating: 10/10 My favorite hip-hop album of all time and one of the greatest albums of all time. Everything about this album is superb: the production, rapping, lyrics, and features are all incredible. This might be the best produced hip-hop album of all time and the production continues to be mind-blowing every single listen. Kanye is rapping mostly about his fame and fortune but does so in a creative way. The features are the best I have ever heard on any hip-hop album, everyone is absolutely fantastic. A timeless classic.

Stephen Railton, one of the world’s foremost Faulkner scholars, asked me one day, as we were talking about some of the Faulkner speeches I spent the previous five hours digitizing as part of the archival research I was doing for him my fourth year at UVa, “Do you have to be as fucked up as he was to make the kind of art that he did?” My 21-year-old self twisted that question into a kind of advice or excuse for the headlong self-destruction I pursued over the ensuing decade, but it still rings in my head today as an open question. And no one epitomizes it more fully than Ye. This album is insanely brilliant, and it’s a sad swing of the pendulum but today I really do feel like maybe you don’t need to be insane to be brilliant, but if you are, you’ll be just that much more brilliant. Maybe the next album will swing my mind again!

I hate Kanye West, he's awesome.

i think objectively this is the best kanye west album. it’s not my personal favorite(shoutout TLOP) but i can’t deny how spectacular this album is. this is the album where kanye perfects the formula of bringing in a bunch of people to form more of a collaborative voice instead of just kanye. an endlessly iconic album too, it’s not close to perfect at all there’s at least one flaw or critique with each track, yet the amount of show stopping and iconic moments within each track makes up for it. every single person involved in this album(even chris rock!!) brings their A-game. the most kanye kanye west album and it’s the best because of it. 5/5

I knew this divisive one was coming. I listened to it thinking of how Kanye was at the time, not perfect but with more substantive and impactful things to say. Honestly, the sequencing of this album is phenomenal. Dark fantasy is one of the best opening tracks that comes to mind, and Lost in the World into Who Will Survive in America are a near-perfect pair of closing tracks. Every other song on the album is distinct and unique, with almost all being standouts. My biggest complaint with this album is that almost all of the tracks are 1-3 mins longer than they need to be. If the extra bloat was removed this album would be near perfect. That is except for the song "So Appalled", which is an incredibly boring and unnecessary track. All things considered, this is a strong album and deserving of a very positive score. 4.5/5 -> 5/5.

I will just always love this album. From start to finish a gambit of the fullest extents of kanye’s mind and emotion. Heartfelt, powerful, masterful production and killer verses. Its a masterpiece

I loved this album when it came out, and I still love it. It goes without saying that Kanye is a controversial figure. But this album is an all-timer, and the first six tracks might be the most re-playable album leadoff in history. I was surprised at how the production sounded tinnier than I remember (not sure if that was lower fidelity streaming, or maybe it's just like rewatching a classic movie after years of HDR). This album is great, and as they say, I miss the old Kanye.

I wish listening to MBDTF didn’t financially contribute to Ye with all the bullshit he spews on the daily, even if it is just fractions of a cent on streaming. Because this album really is amazing. Power and All Of The Lights will forever be unreal bangers. Runaway will still manage to make me cry 10 years from now. Lost in the World is beautiful, powerful and soulful. Ye and his collaborators (except maybe Jay-Z) did an excelllent job portraying the lows that they still face at the top of the world. The isolation, the lack of loyalty, the ridiculous expectations. The production is obviously stellar as well. If you can put aside your reservations about Kanye West the man, you’ll find that Kanye West the artist’s greatest work is one of the best albums of the 21st century.

If we’re separating the art from the artist, this feels like an easy 5 stars. It’s definitely long, but it doesn’t feel long. This has always been my favorite Kanye album, but it also is the one I have spent the most time with. I anticipate seeing some of his earlier work on this list, so we’ll see if this remains the favorite.

Just a few albums ago, we got Kendrick's To Pimp a Butterfly, arguably the greatest hip hop album ever made. Why is it arguable? Because this album also exists. Sure enough, when I was tweeting about how great TPAB is, people ask if it's better than MBDTF. On that day? My answer was TPAB, but it's always a matter of recency bias. There are a handful of albums from the last decade (this one, TPAB, Yeezus, Channel Orange [which we also got recently!] and Blonde) that I hold in my highest regard, and it seems that whenever I listen to one of the five I'm convinced it's better than one or more of the others. Then I listen to another and they shuffle again. Back in the Target days, I would work backroom and could listen to music on my headphones while I worked. I had a tradition where, in the last hour of my work day, I would shift from whatever playlist I was listening to to a victory lap album. This was a frequent choice. It's almost exactly an hour long, and it's an intricate tapestry. Every track is cinematic; the strings throughout get that point across very well. Features are jam-packed, with some of the greatest names in hip hop. And damn, you know an album's good when Jay-Z is featured multiple times and his verses are some of the WORST on the project. Everyone (else) brought their A-game to this one. Unsurprising, given the lore: this album was recorded in Hawaii in a sort of retreat setting. Supposedly, artists were required to wear suits to the studio. Maybe I'm misremembering that, but it wouldn't shock me from Kanye. Kanye has become a real piece of work recently, and not in an artistic sense. He's spiraled into this bizarre realm of right-wing conspiracies and antisemitism that's disappointing at best. One of my favorite artists of all time, and I've been unable to listen to him lately, not because I'm not supposed to but because his voice just reminds me how awful he decided to become. This album's interesting, because it followed what I'm sure some of the world thought would be his biggest controversy we'd have to weather: interrupting notable white woman Taylor Swift during an award speech. The world at large and industry hated him, so he retreated to a (luxurious) island and emerged with this, one of the most impressive and bombastic concept albums of this century, if not ever. Plenty of people debate whether he could (or must) do that again to save himself this time, but I just don't think it can be done. Instead, hearing this today and knowing where he's put himself now, it feels appropriate. This is and was his "comeback" album from controversy, today as it was 13 years ago. His music has already become pervaded by his weirdo politics, so he can't do this again. But hearing MBDTF reminds you why we tolerated the madman in the first place. As for the music itself, it's phenomenal. Endless quotables, stunning and extravagant production, and a strong concept of a man struggling with his fame and the temptations surrounding him. What do you give the man who has it all? As of this year, apparently not a dreidel. This album was made by a mad scientist of a man, who years later became a Nazi sympathizer. Incredibly unfortunate and embarrassing for him, but if that's the road he chooses, we can find comfort in his old stuff and not engage with the man today. "I Miss the Old Kanye" has never been more relevant. Favorite tracks: All of 'em, but "Devil in a New Dress" is always my favorite. Album art: This one's fun because, first of all, the centered image that's blurred is an abstract painting of a naked angel straddling Kanye or his character that this album presents. But the artist made a number of different art pieces, and the vinyl release of this album came with prints that you could slot in and out to change your cover. I have mine set to my favorite, which is the image of Kanye's head impaled by a sword. He used that as his twitter avatar for many years, and it's striking. The bold red border is great too. Such a perfect, opulent cover art. 5/5

I can go on and on about this album. It's great. It really is. I have heard this one before so I was prepared for another listen. Kanye West's somewhat magnum opus, and as I do enjoy stuff like TCD more, you have to admit that this is Kanye's most important album... not his best, but his most important in what its done. This somewhat mix of Graduation & 808s (especially present in songs likr Runaway or Lost In The World) is grand. Kanye takes on issues in songs likr Goregous, talking about how everyone views him as a black man and just as himself. Especially after the taylor swift drama. He brings on Cudi for a great hook and Raekwon for the last, killer verse. This album is also all sorts of bragadocious. In Monster & So Appalled, two very different posse cuts each verse is filled to the brim with less introspectivity and more lines about themselves, in a good light. And god some guest verses are just unforgettable. Pusha's in Runaway, CyHi in So Apalled, and even Rick Ross in Devil In A New Dress. What seems to be this soulful, personal song Kanye builds up is enlightened by this guitar solo followed by a killer Rick Ross verse. And also, Runaway. Runaway is up there in some of my favorite songs of all time. Kanye brings an emotional topic of basically "everyone should runaway from me, i suck" to simplify it. Some of Kanye's vocals are stellar and even the autotune at the end of this behemoth of a track, god. Even songs i highly disliked have grown on me. Hell Of A Life is a song i can appreciate for its lengths it goes to, and hey All Of The Lights is just a banger. One song i really can't see much in the light of is Blame Game. I love John Legend but his hook is just so lame. Kanye's storytelling is great but, i dom't know. The lyricism just kinda falls flat, especially with that long Chris Rock skit at the end kind of destroying that build up at the end. I still love the beat, its one of the best one of the albums, but god i just can't vibe with the lyricism and vocal effects. Overall a good song but not one of my favorites. Finally, Lost In The World. We're all expecting it. A big, final, closer to this record. A finale. But then we're greeted with autotuned Justin Vernon. As it builds up, all we can do is wait. The instrumental kicks in and there it is. The rest of the song definitely kicks off this great album to an end. 9/10 (As of July 8th, 2021) Best Tracks: Dark Fantasy, Goregous, POWER, All Of The Lights Interlude, All Of The Lights, Monster, So Appalled, Devil In A New Dress, Runaway, Hell Of A Life, Lost In The World, Who Will Survive In America Worst Track: Blame Game

Peak Kanye. Unfortunately it's all downhill from here (Yeezus is still good though)

Easily my favorite Ye album (unless this list makes me rethink some others). Monster and So Appalled are BANGERS

Good intro, "Runaway", "Devil In A New Dress", "Dark Fantasy", different sounds, great features, well-known bangers("All of the lights", "POWER"), 10/10

This album really is incredible start to finish. Kanye is at his best but honestly it's the featured artists and production that take this to the next level.

Da hab ich ja was verpasst. Geiles Album!

IMO this is a genuine modern masterpiece. Gets better everytime I listen to it, matures like a fine wine. Oozes with creativity, uniqueness, influence, soul and is chocked full of bangers and the most amazing set of featured artists (eg. All of the Lights). If this isn't a 5* album then nothing that we get from the 2010s should be.

Almost forgot how amazing this album is, despite what Kanye has become. Falls into the concept album category I love so much. Transcends a category.

Va más allá de lo pop. Son canciones de gran duración que no se hacen largas, que dan mil vueltas y homenajean con certeza a la vez que afirma la verdad y visión del señor West. Mi versión favorita de Kanye.

Back in 2010 one of the rare times I listened to a major album the day it was released, first to last track, no breaks, with friends, and it blew me away. Maximum ego. Maximum production. Huge hits. Exciting features (esp Minaj). Engrossing from start to finish. Self indulgant, funny, angry, exhausted, obsessed, juiced up Kanye. Over the top in the best ways. Perfect album. A+

potentially up there with the best albums released in any genre, period. MBDTF is a story of "bests" - every song and moment on the album feels like that kind of song/sound/music perfected. Dark Fantasy - arguably the best rap intro track of all time Gorgeous - Kanye's best verses of his career Power/All of the Lights - Two of the best rap songs ever released Devil in a New Dress - Best Rick Ross verse, best guitar solo in a rap song Monster - Best ever Nicki Minaj Verse Runaway - Best Kanye Song of all time 10/10

Meisterwerk

Amazing

Briljante plaat met een geweldige mix aan stijlen; niet naar de teksten luisteren of aan die mafkees die het maakt denken, dan is het echt cool!

Awesome! One of the best rapalbums I ever heared. His reference to seventies prog in the songs shows that he looks further than his own genre. For me already a classic!

Obviously 5 stars. This is more than an album, this is one of the greatest experiences in life.

Great album. Like someone else said, it is other other features and influences that make this album so great. Not sure if that just speaks to Kayne's ability as a producer or use his clout to get big names and upcoming stars on his record (or if they use his clout for their gain)

Gotta be a 5 from me. This was my first time listening to it with nice headphones and it was crazy

undeniable 5 stars

Truly Visionary Work. This score would be deserved if only for Runaway, the rest is icing. And yeah, I know. Kanye is an ass. IDGAF.

Power" Released: July 1, 2010 "Runaway" Released: October 4, 2010 "Monster" Released: October 23, 2010 "All of the Lights" Released: January 18, 2011

classic

I've listened to this album a few dozen times and love a lot of it. Power and Monster are incredible tracks

amazing album. I got a leak before it came out and really prefer the rougher version to what he ultimately went with. Still a killer album with no duds.

I love this album. Only weak links are Gorgeous and So Appalled. These aren’t bad tracks, but the rest of the album is so good that when these songs come on a bit of energy leaves the room.

Obviously delicious

This was peak Kanye before he started his downward spiral. Killer hooks, samples, features. Feels like the best of this era of mainstream rap. Loved it when it came out, and it's still amazing the whole way through.

Surprising myself by giving this 4 stars. Have never heard a Kanye album before and this was pretty good.

He's a spoon but the music is good

Has quite possibly some of the most recognizable songs in rap/hip hop history. Peak Kanye on display in this album. It was all downhill from here

I didn't want to like this, but I do like this

meh its kanye but the music is good

Peak Kanye. The man’s a prick, but this album is packed.

The art or the artist. This is the turning point where outstanding talent produces something generational (again), shapes the future of a genre but is also where Kanye as we knew him switches to the dark side in his quest to become the world's biggest bellend. Yet, I love this album. It's the end of Kanye also.

Sorry to say that although it's Kanye, some of the lyrics are moronic and others misogynistic... It's a very strong album. More the production and Nicky Minaj than anything else.

This came out as Kanye was transitioning from big time producer and rapper to mentally ill bajillionaire I think? Maybe it was before that was becoming apparent, it's hard to remember when exactly Kanye went from being a real inspirational success story with a ton of talent to this sort of odious and obviously disturbed person he is today. The production on this album is stellar of course, there are some really iconic beats on here (All of the Lights, Power) but I still think it doesn't really get to the level of his early work. College Dropout and Late Registration are such incredible albums that this one seems almost too polished and too full of itself to relate to. I know this is supposed be his opus, but I really don't see it that way. The songs with a ton of features fall flat entirely, the ones with artists that aren't rappers might be even worse. I know that Kanye isn't just a rapper, he's a producer, so it's not weird to be shown up in the rapping department, but it has to be said Pusha T is the best rapper on this album. His verse saves "So Appalled" from being a total throwaway track, and his verse in "Runaway" is great. I've been talking like I dislike this album, but I don't. I still think it's close to being great, I just know Kanye did better before, and probably wont ever do better again. Outside of the big singles, which are all excellent, "Hell of a Life" has a great driving beat, lyrics, and the chorus "sampling" Black Sabbath is great. Real shame he's a piece of shit now.

I think the music itself is a bit better than a lot of the verses, but a powerful album altogether. The vocals are very front and centre in a nice way. Would give it 5 stars if it wasn't for Devil in a new dress and Blame game.

Sounds great, I see why people like Ye However, lyrics can be questionable as you'd expect Not horrendous though

As someone not that much into modern hip hop (and tired of Ye's controversies), I was very surprised by how much I enjoyed this. Decent production and a couple of hits I didn't even know where his

"Dark Fantasy" Grand, cinematic. Features orchestral elements and introspective lyrics about fame. "Gorgeous" (featuring Kid Cudi and Raekwon) Gritty, raw. Guitar-driven beat with social and political commentary. "Power" Anthemic, intense. Combines tribal drums with bold lyrics about Kanye's influence. "All of the Lights" Energetic, vibrant. Features multiple artists; discusses personal and public struggles. "Monster" (featuring Jay-Z, Rick Ross, Nicki Minaj, and Bon Iver) Dark, fierce. Each artist delivers standout verses, with Nicki Minaj’s being particularly memorable. "So Appalled" (featuring Jay-Z, Pusha T, Cyhi the Prynce, Swizz Beatz, and RZA) Brooding, reflective. Complex verses over a somber beat. "Devil in a New Dress" (featuring Rick Ross) Smooth, soulful. Features a classic soul sample and a standout verse from Rick Ross. "Runaway" (featuring Pusha T) Melancholic, introspective. Famous for its extended piano intro and self-reflective lyrics. "Hell of a Life" Edgy, provocative. Combines rock influences with bold, hedonistic lyrics. "Blame Game" (featuring John Legend) Emotional, layered. Explores the complexities of a failing relationship. "Lost in the World" (featuring Bon Iver) Euphoric, expansive. Blends Bon Iver’s ethereal vocals with a driving beat. "Who Will Survive in America" Poignant, thought-provoking. Uses a spoken word piece to address social issues. This album combines lush production with deep, introspective lyrics, making it a rich listening experience from start to finish.

If you asked me five years ago I would have gave this a 5 instantly. Still a really great ablum.

I would have given this five stars but I don't like Kanye as a person and also his lyrics are too misogynistic for me. But surprisingly good music!

Purple Rose of Cairo is my favorite movie. Hard to reconcile that knowing the things Allen has done. It’s still my favorite movie, and the best I can manage to do is call it that and give it four stars in tiny protest for an incredible film. Dark Twisted Fantasy is one of the best albums I’ve ever heard. Incredible. The lyrics are clever, the orchestration is intense and complex. I’m listening to Monster now. Layers and layers of incredible wit and genius. Four stars because it’s Kanye fucking West.

(NOTE: I did not stream this album. I listened to it via a CD I've owned for around a decade now. No money was given to Kanye West in the making of this review. Thank you.) Every now and then I think back to the review I wrote for THE COLLEGE DROPOUT and wince a little. Y'know, as much as I stand by a lot of what I said, there I hafta wonder, "Did I spend too much time calling out Kanye?" Like, "We get it. He's big divorced dad energy and loves Nazis. Do you **need** to keep saying you don't like him and 'Fuck him' and all that? You've talked about how much you don't like him as a person more than you have the damn music. You already gave an 'I don't condone him' disclaimer. What moral brownie points are you aiming for here, exactly?" On the one hand, I blame this on that album being my first Kanye review. I felt like I had to take the time to air out my opinions on the man. With how much he ends up talking about himself on these albums, it's not exactly an unimportant piece of context. Plus, it's better to get it all out in one burst at the start than to keep repeating myself over the course of the next two–even if I doubt most people outside of my group are gonna read my reviews, let alone in order. But on the other hand–and this is the bigger hand, I figure–I don't have much of an attachment to THE COLLEGE DROUPOUT. Preparing for that review was probably only the second time I've heard it in full over the course of a decade. Of course, then, it was really easy for me to get distracted from talking about the music to going on about something where I had more to say. Don't get me wrong, I recognize THE COLLEGE DROPOUT for its beatwork and "Jesus Walks" (even if Kanye's gone on to betray its message). But I just don't have that link that inspires me to write much about it. Unlike this album. MY BEAUTIFUL DARK TWISTED FANTASY is home to my favorite song Kanye ever made, "Runaway". I love the extended "single note" piano intro. I love the beat it turns into. I love singing along to it. I even love the "I sent this bitch a picture of my dick" line for how memorably bad it is. And every other song on the album has its great share of beats, moments and memorable lines, too. "CAN WE GET MUCH HIGHER?" "Choke a SOUTH PARK writer with a fish stick." The whole ending to "POWER". Elton John's piano playing. "MJ GONE–A [n] DEAD." Nicki's verse on "Monster". "That'll be the same day MTV plays videos. That was a little joke–voila." That guitar line before Rick Ross's verse on "Devil In A New Dress". The "Iron Man" interpolation on "Hell Of A Life". "Avril 14th". The intro to "Lost In The World". None of them, though, compare to the second half of "Runaway". The entire vocal solo. That feeling when you want to express yourself, explain yourself ("I'mma be honest")... But you can't. And it can only come out as a long, pained, anguished wail that says more than any words ever could. It's beautiful, honestly. I get close to tearing up over it. And it's damn depressing with the context of 2024. I mean, let's be clear: it needs to be acknowledged that bad people can make good art. Just because Kanye turned out to be a piece of shit doesn't mean his old music is suddenly bad. Hell, he was a piece of shit back when he made this album. Remember the whole "I'MMA LET YOU FINISH" incident? This album was made following that controversy. And he's no stranger to controversy, of course–"GEORGE BUSH DOESN'T CARE ABOUT BLACK PEOPLE," after all. But when even the president was vocally calling him a jackass... You can view the vocal solo on "Runaway" as a reaction to all that. That he wanted to say so much in response, but ultimately couldn't. That he'd never be understood anyway. And in that light, this whole album is such an underdog triumph. That he was the world's public scumbag #1 and still came out with a critically acclaimed, world conquering smash. That success just feels non-existent these days knowing there'd be controversy following this album, and much worse controversy than stealing a microphone from Taylor Swift. MY BEAUTIFUL DARK TWISTED FANTASY is a masterpiece. Kanye's absolute peak before he slid off, in my opinion. True, it's entirely self-indulgent in how damn long it is (see: Rick Ross's verse on "Devil In A New Dress", the "Blame Game" skit, etc.), and just because a lyric is memorably bad doesn't stop it from being... Y'know, bad. It's just all trumped by the fact that it's my Kanye album. The first one of his I've discovered. Where, more than once, I'd imagined one of my own characters screaming out the vocal solo in "Runaway". That aria of sadness and anger at how painfully aware they are that they're a huge fuckin' asshole. And Kanye is an asshole. A jackass, even. He was one back then, and he's an even bigger one now. But I'll always have this. Even if I don't listen to this album anymore because of how inseparable Kanye is from his music, he'll never truly take "Runaway" away from me.

No. 68/1001 Dark Fantasy 5/5 Gorgeous 5/5 POWER 5/5 All of the Lights 5/5 Monster 4/5 Be Appaled 5/5 Devil in a New Dress 4/5 Runaway 4/5 Hell Of A Life 2/5 Blame Game 3/5 Lost In The World 4/5 Who Will Survive In America NR Average: 4,18 The start to this album is incredible. Just banger after banger. Grandious, cinematic songs. Fell off for me a little bit in the second half. Still an amazing record.

I'm annoyed I'm forced to listen to this album because Kanye is an anti-Semite. Even worse, I know it's going to be good. My only solace is he's a millionaire already and my measly listens shouldn't make a difference.

One could always find something wrong with Kanye West, and this album is no exception. The draw here is that Kanye also seems to bury his gems, and once past any criticism, one cannot help but root for the guy. His ear for melody in a beat-centric genre is probably the best in the industry. His production prowess is nothing to make fun of or sleep on, Jay-Z being an example of where Kanye typically comes from in terms of colleagues and frequent collaborators. "Runaway" is a painfully awkward honest song, again buried and bookended by is-it-misogynistic? bravado, further evidenced by the suggestive album title. Kanye West as a persona has been difficult to accept at times, and that has either played well into his music or not, but the talent is on display regardless.

Classics are classics for a reason. They resonate with generations. And this album definitely will for years to come.

I've always loved this album through my 20s and marveled at the absolute genius of kanye west. Now that I'm older, I still marvel at the musical genius but did this self-indulgent lyrical bullsh need to be spewed into the world. Maybe not, or maybe. I'll still give him four stars because the music moves me

Enough words have been spilled about the production on this, but... damn. Would be a 5 if I could handle the lyrics for more than half of the songs. I'd love Hell of a Life with different lyrics. Monster and Runaway are absolute bangers. I'll re-listen to most of this I think.

I miss the old Kanye

Nice beats, dodgy lyrics

Yeezy taught me.

If I didn’t speak English- maybe. Let’s have a toast for this piece of shit.

Decent album

I added a couple songs to my liked songs. So, that happened. I was presently surprised? Still a 3.

Ah Kanye. I did like this more than I wanted to. I knew his politics and his crazy long before I ever heard his music so it's hard to listen with an open mind. But this was genuinely good music. Probably a 4 but I'm rounding down for the Ye makes me just a bit too QYeazie.

Conflicted. Album is smoke. He is not.

Don’t like the man’s politics, obviously, though I do like his music. This isn’t as strong as some of his other albums, and I can’t in good conscience return to it, but it’s a pretty solid album.

Bubblegum pop with f bombs

This didn’t jolt me like “Yeezus”, but it’s still bizarre, bold and word-nimble enough to rise above West’s nastiness. Tip: the un-pixelated cover should be seen.

This started really strong, so I was considering 5, but it sagged a bit in the middle for me. It's borderline 3/4, so I marked down for Kanye being a little Nazi cunt.

Over rated probs a 4 but nazi so its a 3

There is 0 doubt that "Runaway" is a true masterpeace. Also "power" kinda slaps. And right now i am having a huge dilemma, i know that the album is great, but i also know that Ye is not that great. Also hating on every corrupt musician's music would really reduce my listening options. That is why I am leaving this to math. "Runaway" - 6/5 Album - 4.5/5 Ye - 0/5 Total 10.5/15 === 3.5/5

Man, extraordinary fucking orgasmic production, ye really lets his heart out, but the misogyny really does detract from it quite a bit, and really reduces the odds that I would listen to this more frequently.

The weak applause at the end of the album just about sums up my feelings, which is a lot more than I was expecting. Most of the samples are good and there's quite a lot of good singing. Of course there's also Kanye and guests rapping, which was really not for me and damn, I was not prepared for Kanye singing. I guess I get why he chooses to rap.

He really is a musical genius. But would I add this to the 1001 list, knowing his mental status?

Some of these songs are legitimately great, but it's not hard for whatever feelings you have about Kanye to cloud your judgment of his music. That said, production value slaps but I honestly found myself enjoying the featured artists' contributions more than I did Kanye's. Standout tracks are Runaway & All of the Lights.

boring. atonal.

Not a Kanye fan in the slightest but this album is by far his best in my eyes - the production is just brilliant - I think where it lacks for me is in the lyrics as I don't really care for them at all, and some songs (like the one with Chris Rock) drag on a bit too long for me, but I would probably happily relisten to this at some point and potentially rate it higher.

I'm generally not a Kanye fan, and I had low expectations. This was OK,if a little overlong

Although I am familiar with Kanye as a cultural figure, of course, I've never actually taken the time listen to any of his music. Kind of always meant to. Today 1001 Albums finally got me to do it. Obviously this is not my type of music but I've learned a lot through the first 200 albums so I feel ready to tackle this album. I'm surprised right away. And impressed. I assumed Kanye's music was good, he is an icon after all, but I didn't expect it to be accessible to me. On the contrary I like the first three tracks a lot, and the interlude is fantastic, dark and beautiful, sounds like it would be right at home in the Westworld soundtrack. Monster is more like I guess I was expecting and I don't love it. So Appalled and Runaway also don't speak to me. But Runaway to the end are pretty cool. Even the songs I don't like as well sound great. Overall interesting and varied but cohesive with moments of pathos and beauty and attitude and humor, plus it just sounds great. An impressive work. What a shame...

Too much swearing for me, but good beats

As rap goes, this is very good, but I really don't like rap at all.

I am not a Kanye fan but this was mostly good.

3.5 / maybe change if i listen to more rap

Better than I though it was going to be

I used to find Kanye as a whole, and this album in particular, highly overrated. Despite his numerous attempts to make me discredit him over the years, though, I have really grown to appreciate his earlier work. I still struggle a little with this one, though, but I’ll admit that it’s mostly overhype. But there are definitely tracks here that I think stand among his best, ie Monster, All of the Lights. I remember being bugged by him sampling King Crimson and Sabbath, but those also work very well. Gonna go with a C. It’s a little all over the place for me.

This is a surprisingly good album! Plenty of good guests and features too, none more so than Monster which is a certified banger. A Chris Rock ‘skit’ let’s it down to the point where it’s 3 stars not 4 just because it’s so unnecessary.

Wasn’t really getting super into this until Monster. That song is dope as fuck.

Now that I've taken the time to properly listen to this album I feel like I understand why Kanye West is thought of as epic, I definitely thought this album was epic. I found some of the lyrics difficult though which gave me some cognitive dissonance. But yeah glad I had this experience.

My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy ‘You took your pussy game up a-whole-nother level, this is some Cirque du Soleil pussy now’ Kanye being a dickhead aside, having liked The College Dropout and knowing this is regarded as his best album I was interested to hear this one. But I thought it was a bit of a mess. He’s of course not the greatest MC, but it worked on The College Dropout when there was a sense of humour and fun to the lyrics and a sense of a viewpoint, whereas this is either lazily misogynistic or ludicrously self referential and self indulgent. I don’t really like the production either - although TCD did feel of it’s time, the lush, soul sample heavy sound worked well. Whereas on this, despite some nice grooves here and there, Dark Fantasy’s verses, I didn’t really like the layered voices and self important gospel overtones, and the nature of many of the hooks - despite some being catchy I found a lot of them a bit annoying, particularly POWER and Lost in the World. And Blame Game is a really bad song. Maybe it’s that you can see some warning signs of the narcissistic fascism that he slid into that affected my opinions, but I didn’t think this was much cop, and I can’t imagine listening again really, so it’s a 2. 🤡🤡 Playlist submission: Monster

Almost unlistenable. Bunch of name-droppinp, it's rough being rich garbage. Some people say he's a genius. This album doesn't reflect that.

I appreciate his musical talent, but just not my thing.

**An ok album, if you enjoy RAP and foul language

I always thought this guy was weird and outside of a handy recapping of all the kinds of lights that there are, I sure got no use for him now. There's some good beats here and there, such as the Afromerica on Power, Mike Oldfield on Dark Fantasy, which really showcase his strengths as a producer. He's got strengths on the microphone as well, but this dude is clearly not a genius. This kind of hip hop album is aspirational that serves to hype people up but Kanye is not a smart, calculated, thoughtful person, so the accomplishments don't feel earned. Look, if Kanye got on the mic and acknowledged that he was a menace, and nothing more, like he does on the track Monster, this would land hard. Instead he goes off about how he's a complicated Godly man, full of misunderstood purity and none of his identities hold water anymore. Fast forward to now, this guy is still contradicting himself. Bottom line is that when I heard this the first time in 2010 I heard a talented man with a cringey god-complex. 15 years later tell me I'm wrong. This album works best when there are extended instrumental sections that remind you of the artist within, the problem is that Kanye never shuts the fuck up for long enough for those moments to last.

Some of the best songs in this album are some of the best songs in modern rap music, but overall it's super overproduced to the point of being annoying. I do not like

So Kanye’s “Dark Twisted Fantasy” was not as bad as I was dreading, so there’s that… I did find it fascinating that saw a number of rock artists listed in the song writing credits – so Jon Anderson (Yes), Robert Fripp (King Crimson), Tony Iommi & Ozzy (Black Sabbath) – along with Carole King – and I was like WTF, until I realized that Kanye was just sampling portions of their songs on his tracks… I guess that’s part of what bugs me about hip-hop/rap – is the basing of a new rap song, around a musical hook that’s already been created by another artist… I know everyone “borrows” from everyone else in music, and very little is genuinely “created” – but the blatant practice of knowingly taking something, and re-working it, just has never sat well with me… C’est la vie… While nothing earth-shattering here, I did find it at least somewhat interesting, so a solid 2 for Kanye… Still don’t get why he is a thing, but at least he’s better than “Dr. Octogon” – so there’s that…

It’s just too long. I have a hard time judging Kanye of 2010 with Kanye of 2024. He might be the worst rapper on his own album (that’s still pretty good considering the heavy hitters). He’s definitely the worst singer and the auto tune is not great. Is there a Chris rock interlude that just went on way too long??? Cut out a half hour. I think there’s a great album in there

Not mine - boring and for me not interesting enough

There’s a line in monster where Kanye says “I crossed the line. And I’ll let god decide.” Well I think God is going to slap the shit out of Kanye when he reaches the pearly gates. There are a few boppers and some very unique & creative beats. Impressive that he produced the entire record himself. Much less interesting lyrics than college dropout or late registration. He stopped rapping about god and decided he was a god. Fame is a helluva drug 2.5/5

Ugh. Kanye. I'm sure his fans love this, but I'm just not a fan of this guy or his music after about 2006 or whenever he got wrapped up with the Kardashians. This has musical merit and his guest artist list is impressive, but I just am really ambivalent about it.

I had never gone out of my way to listen to Kanye in the past so I was going in fairly blind. Some good production and great beats, but I just don't enjoy his rapping. I don't listen to much rap and hip hop, a few things like Run the Jewels, Jurassic 5 or older 80s stuff will catch my attention, but most of it just isn't for me.

College dropout is good. This is not college dropout.

I made it to track number 5, but this just wasn't for me. I'm not a fan of hip hop albums that tell the story of the artist's history. Especially when it's a backstory I have zero interest in.

I’ve heard Kanye called and idiot-savant. I do not think he is a savant. I think the Bluetooth connection to my auto was wonky because there were two very long periods of silence when I listened. One was almost 5 minutes and the other was over 7. At first I was annoyed that Kanye thought these extended silences were artsy. What a waste of my time. Then I finally realized that I liked the silence more than his misogyny and lame ass suck my balls lyrics. Consolation prize: most of the beats are worth listening to.

Every time I hear n***** I hate a song. I'm an old fart who occasionally likes hip-hop, but I find it so cliched and repetitive, and that's the worst cliche. The second cliche is the name-checking that goes on with the intense self-interest that most of the lyrics feature. So far this is living up to the cliches. Cliche three is their hatred of women. "So Appalled" is the ultimate joke, with one of these idiots busily yelling out, "F****** ridiculous, " as his contribution to art. The rest of them spout out whiny, misogynistic crap. Ok, I give up. I'm bored. I lasted 9 songs. Musically it is interesting, almost orchestral. Lyrically... they whine more than a faulty gearbox. I'm giving it two stars because one star means an album has nothing to recommend it. This has some good sounds. I wish they'd just shut up.

First Listen. Very good. Like to hear more. Low 2/5 for now. Standout is Runaway. This is an amazing song, start to finish. I think I may have heard it before, because it sounded familiar but when it started I was totally focused on it the whole time.

I liked the music, but will probably never listen again.

Some really good ideas but just wore me down over the course of a very long album.

It’s hard to be objective on this one as I think Kanye is a massive cunt and none of his recent albums come close to College Dropout and Graduation but there’s some absolute bangers hidden in here such as Power, All of the Lights, Gorgeous and Runaway. I remember Monster being a big hit but after listening to it back, it’s just awful commercialised Poprap. Gorgeous is criminally underrated and Kid Kudi deserves more respect than he gets. All in all, 3/4 good tunes doesn’t push the MBDTF ranking much higher. If I was allowed to, I’d give it a 2.5 for reasons above.

Not my cup of mud, brother

Unfortunately the artist can’t really be separated from the art.

sample my ass

absolutely not

Pretty difficult to separate the artist from the art on this one. Obviously if what he's saying is true that he's gone through some stuff mentally then I hope he gets some help. That said, fuck nazis

There are some beautifully arranged backing tracks on this 'Magnum Opus' of a Kanye West album, especially on tracks like Power, All Of The Lights, and particularly The Blame Game. But at some point in the song you just know that the droning prick will start his noise! It's just depressing! West clearly has issues - he even sings about being a Monster - but dressing his narcissism and misogyny up and parading it through his album, exposing his flaws, doesn't make him a genius! Foolish critics, going down on your emperor, taking it all in and swallowing every last drop. This shit is fucking ridiculous! By his rules, it's the fault of other women if he can't keep his dick in his pants, and it's the fault of his woman if she goes off with another man. Grow the fuck up and take responsibility you prick. Which leads me to the next rule. You might be considered less of a prick if you didn't refer to women as pussy. But that's how you are - the phone call at the end of The Blame Game, the woman you 'love', who's only appreciated for one thing, and 'Yeezy taught me' even that. Degrading and depressing - 'I never met a bitch that didn't need a little guidance'. What the actual fuck! And the fact that the music's quite good, and that he hides his issues in plain sight shouldn't be ignored. Jimmy Saville raised millions for charity, people turned their back on his issues. Jeffrey Epstein - great financier - massive issues. It's not rocket science!! A begrudging 1 star. There We Are Then, Kanye. C U Next Tuesday.

182/1001 Kanye West - My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy Heard before? ✅ Revisit? ❎ No.

If I wanted to hear an angry freak yell at me about nothing, I’d just take my headphones out on the subway. Fuck Kanye and his fans.

Deranged nonsense from a nitrous riddled spastic

Refuse to listen to fascists.

i hate kanye west

Fuck no

Autotune nightmare. Despite living hip hop, did not enjoy this album at all

no comment, I don't like this man or his music... 0/10

Fuck, he don’t half go on. Too long, too repetitive, too many sexual fantasies. Not interested I’m afraid.

Managed to make my way through most of this disgusting collection of hatred, and depravity, although “Blame Game” reached depths I just couldn’t stomach. What a completely classless and tasteless album.

I didn’t like this when it came out and I sure as shit don’t like it now.

hahahahahahahano.

Fuck nazis

ugh don't like Kanye, but guess i'll give this a go. It's just really not for me.

0 stars. Get this terrible human off of this list.

I don't care how good this album may be, I just can't listen to it.

On principle, I did not spin this. I think it’s time that we stop listening to Kanye West. His early work being good does not justify being a literal nazi later in his career.

fuck Kanye. absolute asshole. can't stand the dude. but music wise this is still good stuff. it sucks that the man that did it is a little Hitler now.

Boo Nazi

Yeah I’ve listened to this before and this is the first one I refuse to listen to again for this project. Fuck Kanye the Nazi. I didn’t even really care for it when it came out. Never loved the whole auto tune everything era of rap.

Not for me.

No thanks.

fuck kanye

Ugh no more Kanye !

I won't listen to this. He will not get any royalties from me.

Okay, I draw the line on this. I can listen to plenty of crap on this list, but I refuse to give even 0.003 to an avowed Nazi and hate speech slinger. Instead, here's a review of an album I've enjoyed recently that you should listen to instead. "After Destruction", by Descartes A Kant (2023) A concept album of "Art-Rock Prog Punk of the Retro Future" (their words), this band from Guadelajara, Mexico looks like they walked off of the set of The Fifth Element and bring us an album based around the difficulties with mental health in an increasingly online world. The album is based around a new machine, The DAK, that can use its computing power to give you poor coping mechanisms, silly dog videos, and a warning that "The system has detected you are creating problems in your own head again". All of this interspersed with music that sounds like it takes cues from St Vincent, Le Tigre, Metric, Talking Heads and David Bowie all in one, the videos themselves are worth checking out for the theatrical performances that go along with it. Plus, it's only like thirty minutes long so what have you got to lose? Check out "After Destruction" (the title track) as a taster. www.youtube.com/watch?v=Q_igolfkQU0

I do not give racist, Trump loving idiots listens on Spotify.

The Donald Trump of music. One star, I wish I could erase you from my life, and all the sheep following too. All I hear is ego. Only stuck with it to see what Bon Iver contributed.

fuck this guy

I'm not even going to listen to this.

Fuck Kanye

Justice for Taylor <3

No. No, no, no. HELL no. I'm not even gonna listen to this Nazi apologist. I'd give zero stars if it was possible. I'm sure as hell not giving him any clicks.

I refuse to listen to this fucking Nazi piece of shit.

It's get the obvious out of the way. It has been getting harder for me to listen to Kanye given his spiralling in the last few years. He has become the anchor of toxic masculinity mixed with untreated mental illness. But the man is also a genius, and this album might be his masterpiece. It is also really disturbing to listen to now because in a way it represents a pivotal point in his trajectory. Kanye, here, is starting to show who he really is, and his beautiful dark twisted fantasy is becoming his world. The beats, the samples, the arrangements are unbelievable as they were since he stepped on the scene, but thematically we are retreating from the often hilarious, ridiculous, messy but brilliant raps of his earlier albums to something far darker. He is a complicated man, who oozes pain and has shown himself to be a real shitty human being human being as a result of that. Yes, he remains a musical giant, but I can't get behind the other stuff.

I'll say it again, louder this time for the folks in the back: FUCK THIS STUPID EGOMANIAC ASSHOLE!! I'm not listening to even a second of this shit because I don't want to give this absolute tool one dime of royalty from my ears.

I didn’t think I’d like it but listened anyway with an open mind. If you are obsessed with the F & N words, are fond of degrading women, & have a complete disregard for human decency then this is your album. I must pass on it.

I really don't care what this record meant at the time, Kanye West is a piece of shit and deserves whatever bad things happen to him. Screw this.

the man's a knob

The first time I won't be listening to an album, but I have absolutely no interest in hearing anything by Kanye West

0 because i don‘t like listening to antisemitic bs

No, fuck that guy.

not listening to nazi music

REFUSE TO LISTEN TO KANYE.

I hate Kanye. I hate everything about him, everything he has ever done, and that feeling will never change. He is a garbage human being and a terrible musician. The world is a worse place for his existence. "It's a Wonderful Life" but in reverse.

So torn here. I really like some of the MUSIC on this album. Did Kanye write it? He had some amazing musicians & producers working on it with him, so how much if the music is due to them and not him? On the other hand, I pretty much hate every word that comes out his mouth, and I’m gonna put that squarely on his egotistic, misogynistic, wacko shoulders. What a shame. What a waste.

A vague mix of hip-hop, rap, and pop with no originality and no soul. The melodies don't get any development, and the lyrics are just there to fill up the time. Also, what is the point of featuring other artists on some of the songs if they all sound the same anyway?

It's hard for me on this one to separate the art from the artist. It just seems like a long album of self indulgent narcissistic ramblings.

Well, let's see how much of this I can stomach. I'm not really inclined to separate my feelings for this egotistical asshole from his music. Honestly, had no one ever heard experimental music before? Go listen to some Nurse, or Coil, or SPK, or Lustmord, or any of a thousand bands who did this long before Kanye showed up. I'd give this overhyped pile of crap less than one star if I could.

Two Kayne albums in 5 days? No thanks "random" generator.

I like 99 rappers but Kanye ain't one. I remember hearing his first couple of albums and wasn't a huge fan. Then I heard this one, and I can at least observe there's some ambition, but it put me off listening to any more of his stuff. Interesting, I had this and Charles Mingus TBSATSL in close proximity: both have long titles, dark themes, and are explorations of the artist's tortured psyche. One is an artistic masterpiece and the other is mostly self-indulgent rubbish. On the plus side, I like some of the production on this, esp the early tracks. And I like Kanye's flow when he actually raps properly, which is really the first few tracks. The bad points are that this is a disorganised mess of an album with a million collaborators used as a substitute for overall design. Kanye's vocals disappear for the whole middle part of the album, and we have a sea of unenjoyable guest spots. For me, the worst element is the lyrics. I can't help but pay lots of attention to lyrics if they are present in a piece of music - it's just the way my brain works. In hip-hop especially, well-crafted lyrics are one of the main sources of greatness. Most of Kanye's are just toxic ramblings about his actual arsehole and also how much of an arsehole he himself is (but he's self-aware, so that makes it art). I even had a look at the AllMusic review to see what I'm missing here. Andy Kellman writes in his glowing 4.5* review, "As the ego and ambition swells, so does the appeal, the repulsiveness, and -- most importantly -- the ingenuity." Does it though?? "Whether loved or loathed, fully enjoyed or merely admired, this album should be regarded as a deeply fascinating accomplishment." Should it though?? I'm barely even interested in the personal lives of musicians whose work I love, so I'm really not sold on the idea of poring over the unenjoyable album of an egomaniac celebrity like it's a fascinating document. It's halfway to hot garbage. Edit: also, I don't require music to have a social message or agree with any of my own beliefs, but I also want to add that casual misogyny ruins many hip-hop albums for me. I don't have any time for it, and it makes me doubt whether I want to listen to this person talking for the next 40-50 mins. (Or in Kanye's case, 70 mins.)

I am not a fan of Coonye. So i have to say nope i didnt like it. Lol

Really?

Yes, I've heard of Kanye (that quote about George Bush, but Kanye's still willing to wear a silly red hat). No, I don't think that I've listened to any of his music. This album did not do Kanye any favors. The content of the lyrics... yeesh. No reason to listen to this. There's musical talent, but apparently the album gave room for a full expression of Kanye's character.

music is love

Honestly this was better than I remembered it. They don’t make rap albums like this anymore, unfortunately.

Unfortunately, this is phenomenal.

Как же копатыч чувствовал

best album ever kanye is my goat fuhhh

INCREDIBLE

Was already one of my favourite albums. From an era where Kanye was producing excellent music and hadn’t fully descended into pure insanity.

You can say what you want about Kanye but this is probably the best hiphop album released after the 90s.

Favorite song: Power

A complex album with brilliant melodies, cutting social comment and dense, but sympathetic, production that puts Spector to shame. Extra marks for the Aphex Twin, King Crimson and Nirvana references in an R&B album. 5* every day

legendary

King Kanye

I’ve never listened to Kanye before because of his reputation. I still don’t know if you can separate the artist from the art, but I do know this album is fantastic. He veers from egomaniac to self loathing to frustration and back, all with clever interesting musical elements that never stop surprising. Runaway stopped me dead in my tracks. Best new-to-me song I’ve heard this year without a doubt. A near-perfect album from a very very imperfect person.

A fucking masterpiece

Very good but yeah twisted

Top Kanye album, huge fan of this one, start to finish.

Repeat listen

the old kanye

His best album

Yeah low 5 for me, already a dodgy dude but undeniably a fantastic cohesive record on a big scale.

He may be not a nice person but damn this album is so good

One of the greatest albums of modern music.

Fuck you Kanye, this is really good.

Great Album made by a Terrible Person. 5 Star Rap Album with great samples and guests. Enjoyed it way more than I expected to!

Incredible album.

A 5 star album by a 1 star guy

A really remarkable album made by a few really awful people, with a lot of warning signs about the things to come with Ye.

This album was on my to-do albums, but I stopped before this when 808's and Heartbreak was completely revolting by like the second song. So, yeah the ended my Kanye West discography listening, I was planning to end it anyway at this album the blessed generator gave to me. There a quite a few songs I've heard before that I didn't put two and two together to realise they were songs by Kanye, granted this was when I barely knew anything about him. Those songs being "POWER" and "All of the Lights." The album overall has quite a few different moods present, I originally thought this was just that straight boast, party rap. It's KINDDD of like that, but not really. Some of the moods are the aforementioned boast rap of "POWER", the pure aggression delivery of "Monster" and the vulnerable introspective art song of "Runaway." Of course there's other stuff, but I feel nearly all the songs have elements of those three moods at different ratios. The arrangements on some of the songs are so lovely, like the horns in "All of the Lights" which fits the pompous attitude. I also quite like the moody chamber strings of "So Appalled." Though I heavily dislike all of the vocals in that song and I feel it doesn't compliment the instrumental whatsoever. I absolutely love the song "Runaway" so I've decided to dedicate a little section to it. It's definitely in my top 5 hip-hop songs. The sadness the drenches the track, with focus on his failures as the main subject. Beautifully layered, Pusha T's verse is a pretty good contrast to all the lyrics before it. The coda is one of the best ever in recorded music, the wordless vocals honestly say it all. After "Runaway" I feel the quality dropped off a bit, keeping interest for nearly a 70 minute album tends to be tricky. I think for a first listen this was a really good listen. At this point I feel a second listen would only improve my current perception. Just like what happened with the College Dropout. There's a lot to appreciate with Kanye's early albums. Solid album. Highlight Song/s: "Monster" and "Runaway"

First Kanye on this list for me ! When this dropped in 2010, was one of my favorite rap albums. Hip hop was never my top genre but around this time I really got into a lot and this album was a regular play for me. I think it will still hold up, despite the fact that Kanye is a crazy person. Damn this starts as a banger. Dark Fantasy is so good. Witty bragging rhymes that just hit. A great production. Only gets better from here. The album starts with some of the best rhymes on the whole thing. Gorgeous is just a great rap song. Kanye at some of his best. Power just a classic catchy Kanye. All of the Lights. Monster. Just great songs to start this album. Everything is great. 16 years later, and Monster is still a vibe. Nikki Minaj having the best verse is still crazy to this day. This is an all time great hip hop album. Despite Kanye’s legacy. He sucks now and turned out to be a shit person. Really don’t choose to put his music on these days and haven’t for years. But this album is probably the last great thing he did musically and holds up on reslisten. It’s extravagant in the best possible way. After a strong front side of rap jams you have something like Runaway on the back end. To quote him, this shit is fucking ridiculous. 5/5

1) Devil in a new dress 2) Runaway 3) So Appalled

Enjoyed this throughout. No major stand out faves but did like So appalled.

Masterpiece.

Simply epic. The best of his era if not ever. One of the rare 5/5

All time great album.

Kanye’s magnum opus. I don’t listen since he’s gone Pro Hitler etc, but this reminded me that at one time he was so good at getting different artists together to make something great. Splicing in fantastic homages to classics like Gil Scott-Heron and just putting it all together in a great soup. I don’t know why we haven’t seen anyone replicate this type of collaboration since, but it is sorely missed in the modern music landscape. It holds up but I have probably listened to this too many times to judge it fairly. I did pick up on lines and things I had forgotten like the pre-maga Kanye anti trump line.

Great album

Fuck Kanye enzo, maar dit is en blijft gewoon een meesterwerk

When I first bought this record, I thought it had some MASSIVE bangers and some filler songs. I recognize I was wrong; it does not get any better than this.

Classic!

BANGER - white skinny fuckboys know what s up

Maybe the last really great West album.

One of Kanye Masterpieces, it's very cohesive and still very relevant today.

Masterpiece.

I loved this album before Kanye was a Nazi.

Great piece from Kanye, might be the greatest he did even though I liked College Dropout more earlier.

Probably Kanye's best album

Klassealbum. Runaway er på topp 20 all time lista mi.

He used to be so good 😭

The flow of the music works insanely

Listening to this album always makes you think

Love this one!!

Really didn’t want to like this because of the nazi shit, and like half the people on it are terrible people but fuck it slapped. I’ve listened to this before but I didn’t realise it was this good. Power, runaway, nicki minaj opening and Gil Scott heron closing fucks so hard, and nicki minaj’s verse on monster might be my favourite rap verse ever. Maybe I was too harsh on yeezus

Stop giving me albums I already listened to the second time already 😭 peak Kanye

esse album exala resenha.

Difícil de aceitar, mas o PH sempre esteve certo

"Ye nazista? Kim Kardashian? Álbuns merda? Do que você ta falando cara é 2011 e o kanye lançou seu melhor álbum"

Classic, banger of an album. Take the guy out of it and this is a masterpiece

Amazing rap album

What genre is this album? Yes.

Hadn’t listened in a while due to Kanye losing his mind. I love this record and it makes me sad about Kanye all over again.

goated

Perfect album, even in it's messiest moments. Also it's crazy to me people will ride the anti-Kanye hype train and refuse to give this a listen when there are so many actively terrible people in this book. Frank Sinatra was a mob-affiliate. Seemingly every rock artist of the 70s was sleeping with underage groupies. Kanye is a clearly mentally ill person going through a very public breakdown. That doesn't excuse the things that he has said and the ideologies he has supported, but its so clearly the product of an unwell mind that I don't understand how people can take it remotely seriously. Just virtue signalling to my eyes. Rant over.

Loved it. Very diverse, mixing lots of different styles. Love the Iron Man riff too!

Look, I hate present-day Kanye as much as the next guy, but this is still a 5/5
