Short but sexy, a lot like me
Very beautiful and lush, feels like it deserves a dedicated listening session - not so great for grabbing attention while working. The instrumentals and melodies also begin to blend together a bit.
There are probably millions of Gen X'ers that were conceived to the music on this album. I rank albums by how much I enjoyed it during the moments in which I listened to it, and it should be known that no rating I give any project is static and would be subject to change depending on how I'm feeling in the moment. Favorite tracks: "Come Get To This", "You Sure Love To Ball", and "If I Should Die Tonight".
Very good production it’s a freaky album. Saxophone melody in you sure love to ball is angelic. I like the diversity in different songs. In “come get to this” the drum pattern is crazy but other songs like “distant lover” it’s very slow and dance vibe with jazz in background. 3/5
Context: I had only ever heard Marvin Gaye in TV show's so this was a completely new experience. Listens: 1 This is a very good album, Marvin Gaye has an amazing voice. Enjoyed this through pretty much. However with an opener that strong, everything else almost feels less impressive.
This album felt slightly above average to me. Each track on the project does just enough for me to add them to my playlist for future listening. However, only a select few felt like truly great tracks, as most of these songs just play it very safe IMO. Marvin Gaye’s phenomenal voice also makes this project more enjoyable. 7/10
Marvin Gaye's Let's Get It On is an absolute CLASSIC. Unfortunately, I'm not sure the rest of the record lives up to the expectations set by this song. It's terrific music (and there's a clear time and place for this album), but I was looking to more captured by the album in a way I wasn't. Still, the title track is in and of itself worthy of inclusion on this list.
Smooth and funky. An album to start my personal journey through 1001 albums -- yes indeed, "Let's Get It On"
After a very horny album I was surprised by the heartfelt break up song at the end.
Not much beyond the title track for me.
Not so interesting
Romântico
Look, I love the title song, but I don’t think anything else here is nearly as good. It’s fine, but it’s not riveting. I enjoyed listening to it. But I’d much rather listen to the album that preceded it - What’s Going On.
So smooth and sexy
3.5
Nice
Favourites: • Let's Get It On • If I Should Die Tonight
Was OK, wouldn't go there again tho
horny jazz
Very familiar with the title track, never heard the album. It's a mood.
Nice! I enjoyed it and played the sample spotting game as usual. As smooth as it was, I probably won’t go back for more than the titular song.
Sounds like a good album to fuck to, but it's kinda weird to just sit around and listen to it.

Just a classic soul record with some great romantic and sexy numbers on it, all centered around tasteful production and Marvin's great voice. For not being my cup of tea I enjoyed it a lot.
Sex jams. It's OK. I didn't think I would like it but it's not bad. There isn't much here, honestly.
Good soulmusic
Wanted to like this more, but beyond the title track and the cool side a reprise, there's not a lot going on. Track 3 was enjoyable as well but as we know, lot of filler on R&B albums and it shows here
Was it cheesy when it came out, or is it just cheesy now? Impossible for me to say. Great rhythms, great vocals, lyrics weren't the most imaginative.
Better than I remember, fuck oasis
Top 3 Songs: 1 - Let's Get It On (1) 2 - Come Get To This (5) 3 - You Sure Love To Ball (7)
Pretty ok soul album. It never wanders far from Let's Get it On, and so it feels kind of samey throughout because of that. But there's some decent arrangements on some of the tunes and I wouldn't complain at listening again.
Solid album. Short and sweet. Amazing voice. HE REALLY LIKES TO 'GET IT ON!'
In a continuing theme of my reviews, I'd be perfectly happy for this to be on but I just wouldn't bother to put it on myself. Also, the constant sex theme of the album gets a bit wearing too, if I'm honest. I was going to write that it just turned into a bunch of instrumentals by the end but it turned out that's 'cos Spotify was playing a load of extras from the Deluxe version!
I’ve never really dabbled in soul but this was a really pleasant album to listen to. If I Should Die Tonight has to be one of the best soul songs I have ever heard.
Pretty good. I wouldn’t listen to it again but I’m glad I did listen to it.
Let's Get It On is one of the greatest and most iconic love songs of all time -- that much is indisputable. I just wasn't in the mood for an album full of that.
Beautiful medleys, lyrics and voice, and I can completely understand why it’s on the list, but you have to be in the right mood to listen to it. Listen again: Probably Purchase for my collection: If I found it in a bargain bin Favourite Song: Worst Song:
10.04.23. В целом весьма приятный афроамериканский соул с красивой атмосферой начала 70-х. Очень романтичная музыка.
Music to have fun with your partner to for strictly 30 minutes.
One really great song, the rest is pretty nice to listen to.... 3/5
It was loud and proud r&b, which is cool but not always my fav
Good, not great
Soh os virjao nao conhece
That's baby making music right there! A smooth soul experience bound to make you super uncomfortable in front of your parents or maybe not, I don't know your life. A nice listen but no bangers outside "Lets get it on" which is worth the price of admission either way.
3.5/5
While the title track of this album is, in my opinion, one of the sexiest songs of all time, the rest of the album didn't leave much of a strong impression on me. It was a good listen, relaxing and very chill, and Marvin Gaye has a great voice. I just don't know if I could see myself going back to listen to the entire thing. Standout tracks: "Let's Get It On," "Please Stay (Once You Go Away)," and "Distant Lover."
Love his voice but I did find some of these bit samey
Nice and smooth, but nothing special.
Lots of similar sounds but beautiful orchestration nonetheless. “Keep Gettin’ it On” is…silly.
Not something I would have listened to before. Enjoyed it enough though. Probably won't listen again outside of the single. We should define what each star is. 1- terrible 2- won't listen to again 3- probably wouldn't but there's a chance 4- would listen to again 5- perfection
It’s good music, though not really my style. Great vocal performances and didn’t get bored at all throughout.
Incredible musical talent, but it just doesn't stay with me. Some absolute bangers, but most of the album just fades into the background. Not abrasive or harsh in the slightest, but that also means it goes down without a second thought. Great licks, great tunes, absolutely gorgeous singing, but it ironically lacks some oomph.
Day 1: Classic soul album, not bad.
I listened but not enough to get a real feel so 3 stars it is. Let's get it on.
According to the Rolling Stone’s Top 500 Albums list, this is the no. 1 album of all time, which is a lot to live up to. It’s also pretty short, just over half an hour long. It’s a good album, no doubt. But best of all time is definitely a stretch. Enjoyable but not for me, and I didn’t love the sensual sighs in the background… don’t think it added anything, just made it sound rather trashy. Favs: If I Should Die Tonight, Let’s Get It On, Come Get To This
Sexy
It’s good fuckin’ music. It’s good fucking music. Gaye is iconic, but it’s not an album I’d return to.
Sexy sweet yummy
Let's Get it On is an undeniably great song. The rest of the album is not really in my stylistic wheel house...a little too love songy (if that's a thing). The singing is incredibly good but the arrangements are too syrupy and lacking in agressiveness. 3.5 stars
very nice album, especially the first song that probably everyone knows.
Very slick soul. 7/10
Marvin is great. This album is good
This some romantic pre-or-during-foreplay shit. I fuck with it. Literally. Bit weird to listen to it when I'm not though - very niche.
I think if this was anyone else I would give it a much lower rating but Marvin elevates it to another level. I can't imagine anyone else could get away with basically having the same song ("Let's Get It On" and "Keep Gettin' It On") twice on the same album. 3.5 stars
get it on is awesome, rest ok
I enjoyed this more than I expected to. Smooth vocals.
Miten tällaista levyä voi edes arvostella? Olen itse nähnyt High Fidelity -leffan sen verran monta kertaa, että kuulen tän nykyään valitettavasti päässäni aina Jack Blackin äänellä. Kai tää on tosi hyvä? Kai?
Nice, soothing music that you'd expect from Marvin Gaye. Highlights of the album are Lets Get It On and Keep Gettin it On
'Let's Get It On' either (1) disguises the perfunctory nature of the rest of this album or (2) highlights the perfunctory nature of the rest of this album. Depends on how you approach it. I think (2). It isn't a bad album, but the lead song always flags up what Gaye could do and didn't (or wouldn't) with this material. That Let's Get It On is, in effect, reprised half way through adds despair to disappointment. All that said: still stands read beanie , if not head and shoulders, above most of the mainstream soul of the period.
Eh
Soulful and seductive. Always cool to go back to these classic albums and heat snippets used in samples (just to keep you satisfied in leaving you by fabolous, as I am sure in many others too).
First song is a blinder! Rest don’t quite live up to that. But he’s a consummate vocalist and these are great songs. I still think I’d rather listen to a Best of album.
Not my thing
The hit is timeless but the rest of the album is good but not amazing.
Instead of making a sex joke (which I see we’ve already beaten to death here), I just want to point out how well Marvin can sing, a fact that’s often overlooked with regards to the subject matter he’s singing about. There’s both an ease and power in the vocal delivery, and along with the near-orchestral instrumentation and layered production that means this LP stands out as a fully genuine, well-crafted artistic product. Though things do tend to get homogenous near the back end of the album, it’s still a strong testament to how powerful simple things done well can be.
Everyone knows Let's Get It On. The rest of the album could be more aptly be named "Marvin Gaye is Horny" as the topic matter is pretty single focussed. Nothing wrong in that, mind, just a bit boring over and over.
Går ju inte tycka illa om det här. Kanske inte top notch men en stark trea lär det bli.
Great in places
Sexy 70s
This is as old as me.
I don't love a lot of 70s, baby-making R&B music...
Meh. Lots of redundancy in this one.
Obviously a stone-cold classic...but just not really my thing
Concerned that just listening to this album may have impregnated me
It is cosy but basic. I know this will have a high rating because people are easy.
fun
p295. 1973. 3 stars, just. The soundtrack to a million 70s seductions. Has not aged well - production sounds dated, and a lot of the tracks are filler. Set against that, you have one of THE great soul voices on absolutely top form.
does this man write about anything other than sex
Gah... enn annað fíflið. Platan er ágætis soul, en það er erfitt að njóta hennar.
Mostly great tracks, but I bet it would hit different on a get-away with my wife, rather than on my commute to the office. Sensual, soulful, passionate.
3.5
Enjoyable but repetitive Not realy my type
good
Alleen een wipje maken in een met olie gevulde badkuip voelt gladder dan deze plaat, maar verder leuk gedaan, Marvin!
Relaxt!
Openingstrack is geweldig. De rest is ook mooi maar ook wel op het randje van te gelikt en zoet.
Jammer dat de vader van Marvin zijn mooie stem om zeep heeft geholpen. Let’s get it on is een fantastisch nummer.
With so many classic artists and releases, I realize that I'm missing the context of the work in terms of its impact and contribution to its moment in time. What sounds cliché now was novel at one point — things I take for granted in songwriting and production were at one point unheard of. I don't know if any of that applies to this album, per se, but I did find the production and ideas on this album a bit clichéd, certainly taken as a whole. Ultimately, while I'll assert (again) how much I admire Marvin Gaye as a vocalist, this album seemed to skid along the same vibe and subject matter — I didn't feel like the album took me anywhere. "Let's Get It On" is not a subtle reference, and it's used three times (including the album title) and then we have "You Sure Love To Ball," and it's pretty clear what Marvin had on his mind. I imagine this must have been pretty racy at the time of its release, for a number of reasons, but strip that away and I found this to be one long sexy track. Nice, but not an album's worth of interest for me.
I enjoyed the smooth calm of Marvin's voice. A short and sweet album that's hits right down the middle for me.
Solid, but super repetitive, felt like listening to an hour long version of let's get it on (theres even a reprise in the middle -_-) 3/5
Meh….not my style but decent
Can I get some more marimba!? Nice album overall but a bit boring. Favorite tracks: Let's get it On, Keep Gettin' it On
It was ok.
It's the title track and then seven other songs nobody remembers.
meh, fine.
Smooth and laid back classic soul. The title track is a true masterpiece and genre defining, but also filler tracks with overproduced strings, not doing good for the overall impression
good work music
i liked it
Good one.
6/5/2022 - ALBUM #129 Today's Album: "Let's Get It On" by Marvin Gaye - As I have dived deeper into the culture of R&B and hip hop, I have heard a lot of hype around Marvin Gaye for his sensual style of R&B. Because of that, when I listened to this album I kept waiting for some meaning moment or statement, but by the time I got halfway through the track list, it was evident that this album is appreciated for much more subtle reasons. One of those reasons is the instrumental performances throughout. I think one of my biggest gripes would be the way it's all mixed together, but the smooth string playing reminiscent of Ella Fitzgerald mixes really well with the mellow blues aesthetic among the rest of the instruments and Marvin's vocal performance is for the most part, really great. There are a lot of moments where the songs sort of stay in one place for a little while in terms of the groove and vocal delivery, and those are moments that do lose my interest a little bit. The opening track is one of the most well known R&B tracks and the opening alone is enough to conjure up every cheesy sex scene this music has been associated with in your mind, but it's all for good reasons, as this is a standout performance all around from the band. Distant Lover was another highlight here because of just how great of an atmosphere and tone this track builds throughout the track, with lyrics alluding to a long-distance relationship in a really insightful way. Overall, this is a pretty great album throughout, but the sort of hollow feeling production and occasional boring moments make it something that I wouldn't return to super often. Give this one a listen if you like R&B and want a lot of songs that sound like Let's Get It On. Highlights: Let's Get It On, If I Should Die Tonight, Keep Gettin' It On, Distant Lover, Just To Keep You Satisfied. Score: 7/10 Influential and iconic, but somewhat stagnant.
Pretty good, pretty smooth. I don't have much to say about this. Obviously it's good music it all kind of blends together for me at one point.
I really enjoyed this album and I have nothing more interesting to say.
Strong 3. It's always part of my soul playlist at home. It make me happy all the time.
An album that is neither excellent nor bad. It is exactly what is expected, without surprise or disappointment. Anyway, I don't remember it anymore.
Look, Mr. Gaye, I understand that “push” rhymes with “bush”, but no matter how iconic and sexy your title track is, it still strikes me as thirsty. When his father shot and killed him before his time, I wonder if Marvin had his “If I Should Die Tonight” running through his mind. And if so, I sure hope the “you” in that song was a real person.
Often imitated but never duplicated, Marvin Gaye is everything that all the modern R&B crooners want to be. And, for what he does, he's the best. The problem is, he only does the one thing. If you've heard "Let's Get It On" (and you have), you've heard everything that Gaye has to offer. That's it. It's everything. The rest of the album is just that on repeat. I'm not sure it belongs on a list of albums we should hear before we die. It's really just the one song. And a ton of saxophone. So. Much. Saxophone.
3.5
Not really my cup of tea, but enjoyable nonetheless.
Iets te zwoel maar wel goed album
Get you some!!
Red wine + strawberries + chocolate. Certainly deserves some explicit tags *cough* You Sure Love To Ball *cough*.
Ok. “Let’s get it On” is good.
Nice Mavin Gaye sound
Let’s Get It On by Marvin Gaye (1973) From back in the day when a singer/songwriter could be sensuously erotic without being profane (because he appreciated the art of innuendo), Let’s Get It On pretty much says it all. I was a 17-year-old boy when this came out, and still a virgin. This record prepared (primed) my soul for what I was confident would be mine someday, and the sooner the better as far as I was concerned. My girlfriends were thankfully more circumspect and disciplined. Delayed gratification. But it was great when the title track came on the AM radio at night in my mom’s Dodge Dart with my gf du jour sitting next to me on the front seat (this was before they were all buckets [the seats, that is, not the girlfriends]). From “Just to Keep You Satisfied” to “You Sure Love to Ball”, to the title track “Let’s Get It On”, to its reprise “Keep Gettin’ It On”, it’s obvious that Mr. Gaye had a one-track mind on this eight-track collection of seductive sounds, with lots of strings, lots of bass guitar, and lots of ‘oohs’ and ‘ahs’ and other airy, nondescript exclamations and exhalations. This is a wistful listen for an old man who can happily resign himself to the fact that few youngsters today will get it, but that’s ok. They’ll have their special memories too. 3/5
The intro to this album is so iconically linked to smut in the media, that it's hard to disassociate that and take it seriously at least to start with. You can see why it was considered that way though, and after that opener, you know what you're getting throughout this. It's a sexy slice of soul, and although I'd listen to it again, I'm not sure I'd want to in the presence of company. This has a short runtime, which amused me more than it should have.
Tight R&B
Soul
Great album, and although I liked some tracks , I couldn't help comparing it unfavourably to Marvin's masterpiece What's Going On.
Appreciate that this man starts the record with getting it on, then has a mid-album check in to make sure you’re still getting it on. Thank you Marvin
On first listen I found this kind of boring, to be honest. It may benefit from repeat listens, though, like What's Going On did for me.
The sexiest commute to work I've ever had.
Stylish but soporific.
Easy listening
3.5/5 And album about making love, feeling love, and losing love. While the music and Gaye’s singing are great the sameness of the album starts to show after a few tracks. I didn’t dislike any individual track but I wouldn’t see myself sitting down to listen to the whole thing through again. There one goofy song in the album, “You Sure Love To Ball” where the euphemism chosen for sex makes it sound satirical. Fav Tracks: Let’s Get It On, Keep Gettin’ It On, Come Get To This Least Fav Tracks: You Sure Love To Ball
So obviously Marvin Gaye is a great singer. And Let's get it on is one classic song. For me most of this type of his music here all sounds the same. I cannot really connect to it. Almost like high end background music to my ears. Not my genre.
A nice album to listen to on my birthday.
Why have two pretty much identical songs on the same album? Relatively enjoyable
It's alright, but not something I'd put on myself
So sexy, I think I might be pregnant. One of the most iconic opens of all time.
There coul be occasions where I would enjoy it
Super excited to listen. Gaye’s been on my list of artists to explore more. Fingers crossed it’s good! The first 10 seconds of the title track are so overplayed it -almost- hurts the integrity of the song. If I Should Die Tonight is the showstopper on this. Absolutely fantastic. Just To Keep You Satisfied is good, too. Overall, I wouldn’t turn this album off, but don’t plan to purchase or re-listen anytime soon. Some of the songs were a little too smooth for me.
Listened Before? N Pros: Super smooth, easy to listen to. Fun to "get it on" to. This is some of the smoothest stuff I've heard coming out of the 70's. Good stuff. Cons: Listening to this beginning to end isn't really my style. I could see a situation where I could be in the right mood, but it wouldn't be often. I definitely appreciate it, though. Added to Library? N Song(s) added to playlist: Lets Get it On
Some albums are hardy beasts, capable of cutting through even the most unsympathetic of ambiance. This is not one of them
super groovy but it all sort of sounds the same. only the title track really stands out for me. a great album to listen to with a shorty over while making some nice pasta
He has a silky smooth voice with an impressive range. The positive part of having a voice like this is that it is so well suited for ballads. On the other hand, the negative part of having a voice like this is that it is that it is so well suited for ballads. I really like him, but I just can't handle so many ballads.
Marvin has a silky sweet voice and it’s impressive that he wrote all the songs and produced the album. The love songs are a bit sweet for me.
Let’s get it on is a great soul song. Full stop. Marvin found huge success with his OG hit What's going on two years prior and you can’t help but notice that he’s milking that theme for all that it’s worth. I found the rest of the album to be quite uninspiring. The lyrics are quite banal, for fun I tried counting how many times he sang the phrase “oooh Baby” but I lost count. An entire album about ballin’ is a bit much for me.
I like individual songs but the album as a whole gets a bit repetitive.
Good album here. Marvin Gaye made some of the best r&b. Let’s get it on is a classic romantic song. The rest of the album is still solid. It’s rather short which is it’s biggest downfall. 7.6/10
Not a fan. Was like being romanced by someone who isn’t my type
decent soul album
I think the title track is the one song that I know that Marvin Gaye sings. I know I have heard other tracks from Gaye, but I can't tell you which. The album was fine, but I don't see myself coming back for a second listen.
Nice, rigtig lækker feel-good
Classic
Too much of an average thing
Marvin loved to fuck.
Real missed opportunity not to have more reprises of the title track throughout. "Still Gettin' It On", "You Guessed It: Gettin' it On!", "We Stopped Gettin' It On For a Minute To Eat a Protein Bar and Hydrate, But Now We're Gettin' It On Again." etc.
pretty good. not really my thing
Should be a 3.5, but realistically I won’t go out of my way to listen to it again. It was better than expected though.
32 minutos de pura sabrosura, para ponerse aptos para el amor. No varía mucho el tema ni el mood pero tampoco se le exige. Songs: Let's Get It On, Keep Gettin' It On, You Sure Love To Ball.
Would this album be anywhere near as popular if it weren't for the title track? Probably not. That said, it's a nice album and I'd probably buy if I came across it.
A bit cheesy, but some nice soul nonetheless
Pretty good album
Sex is one of the most magical experiences we get to have in life. Sometimes it's an uncomfortable or taboo topic, and repression can cause issues. Marvin has no problem talking about sex. This album is (fucking) hilarious. Track 1: Marvin really wants to have sex. Track 2: Marvin has blue balls. Track 3: a sweet fatalistic song not directly about sex (not sure how this made in on the album). Track 4: Enough of that sentimental shit, Marvin really wants to have sex again. Track 5: Marvin wants to have sex with you. Track 6: Marvin is lonely and wants his partner to be with him. Track 7: Marvin reminds his partner how much they enjoy sex. Track 8: Marvin breaks up with partner because their relationship was unhealthy, but the sex was great. Perhaps their relationship was a bit one dimensional, just like this album? Great voice. Great sex soundtrack for those who are immune to irony and take sex really seriously. B-
College Josh certainly thought this album would help him get laid. Was maybe even successful once or twice—though I chalk that up more to my overwhelming charisma than Marvin's buttery voice. It's funny how such an iconic song can be so generic. "I want to fuck. Please, may we fuck now? I will literally say whatever it takes to pork you." But maybe that's why it's so iconic—it's accessible, it's relatable, it doesn't push for anything beyond porking. When your song can be used in commercials for jeans, chocolates, Applebee's, coffee, a TV channel, macaroni, condoms, as well as in an episode of The King of Queens, you know that it has to be generic enough to be so ubiquitously far reaching. It's really saying something that a song can speak so universally in a country where half of us are gorfing horse dewormer to cure ourselves of an imaginary contagion.
slower than What's Going On
It's smooth. Not smooth enough for a 4 or a 5 but it's smooth.
Marvin Gaye's 13th album - and his most successful - was a soul & funk album released in 1973. This album is sexually charged and has probably been played in countless bedrooms. The funky sounds and soulful lyrics meld together in the most perfect way to capture a human being's raw carnal energy, and by the end of the album, this energy is begging to be released. This album might be the best soul album out there.
Marvin Gaye is great. I know the song, the album is still new to me. This is my second listen and it is still a good 3/5 for me for now.
It sounds great, and incredible vocals obviously. Just not a lot there for me past the title track.
3.5. I wasn't too thrilled, unfairly, because I just thought of Let's Get It On and wasn't looking forward to a whole album of that. But who woulda thought, it's not all that! Nice to hear his legendary voice singing some new-to-me things.
Not my thing, appreciate the talent but wouldn't make it into my general rotation.
This is good, but I don't think its aged very well. Great voice, smooth 70's sex music! But not really my cup of tea. 3/5
Vill knulla till musiken
Smooth, soulful, but honest I found I actually enjoyed the instrumental tracks the most.
3 stars. Just not my style. I dont think these kind of love songs have aged well, although I do understand the importance of Marvin Gayes influence on other artists. Honestly just sounds corny to me. He does have a great voice though
3/5 very nice.
On first glance there isn't much here beyond the title track. I'm not much of an R&B/Soul fan but wikipedia describes this as funk record. I like funk but this is pretty smooth... seems like a stretch to me. Maybe it's all the harps... Enjoyable listen but it kind of just merged into the background for the most part. 3 stars.
Great voice and very smooth sounds. I would prefer more of the up tempo gaye tunes, like the first track, to give a higher rating. I like the music generally.
Easy listening that fails to make a lasting impression as more than background music
Gute Sexmusik, aber bisschen weniger deep als (natürlich) What‘s Going On. 3,6
Excellent production and incredible vocals by Marvin Gaye make Let's Get It On an enjoyable experience. However, I believe you have heard everything Marvin has to offer after the first two tracks. It's a tad too sweet and samey for me to warrant many further listens, though I can not deny the appeal of the smoothy and sensual gems that are on here. 3/5.
I know this is considered a stone wall classic; but this smoochy smoochy soul just doesn’t do it for me!
P good album. My man is extremely horny
Nice and smooth. Beautiful voice and some good songs. Overall a bit too sweet and soft to listen as an album regularly.
Beyond the title song, I didn't know any of the songs on this album. It was a nice album, all of the songs are pretty good, but I don't think it was so special that I see myself playing it a lot.
Pretty nice, except for the moans
"Let's Get It On" is undeniably groovy, instantly recognizable, warm, and cozy. The title track is iconic, but the rest of the album fails to capitalize on the strong start. The ensuing tracks are fairly one note, this might be artistically uninteresting, but on the other hand, you keep wanting to dance. Overall, I wouldn't ever go out of my way to put it on, but while it's spinning, I'm grooving.
It’s pretty hard to dislike Gaye. It wasn’t my thing overall but it was a pleasant listen. And of course the first track is iconic.
Sexy, smooth and not bad. Kind of an iconic title track but the entire album is good
The right amount of energy for casual listening. Does not really work as background music. Interesting orchestrations, no heavy sound manipulations.
Funky
// Favs: – Score: Strong 3 to Light 4
I thought “Let’s keep gettin’ it on” was a parody…
Lots of baby making music. Honestly all very similar though, and I like my albums with more spice
It's a classic but I wouldn't turn it on on purpose
Sexy.
I understand the lyric "let's marvin gaye and get it on" now. I didn't listen to the whole album but the bits I listened to were ok? Fine? Not super memorable apart from my breakthrough with the lyric.
gostosinho
cool music
Lots of good, not a lot of great
I fuck w this ;)
Thought this was very good, way better than I expected. Might listen again.
Better than expected!
a supreme talent but not quite my vibe; i very much respect it though
woohoo! great memories of sex from this album. just superb
Saved Prior: None Saved Off Rip: Keep Gettin' It On Cutting Edge: Let's Get It On, Come Get to This, Distant Lover Overall Notes: Grew on me, need to be in the right mood to listen to it otherwise it really does not hit, not my genre but still pretty good. Definitely should've given Exodus a 4, that puts me in the mood to enjoy reggae while this album needs me to be in the mood for soul.
Bit floppy and sloppy for my tastes, but clearly mega influential in terms of the changing style of motown and future r&b genres. 7/10
Muy sensual, casi puro sexo, pero quizás tanto que por eso me satura y acabo pidiendo la hora. Mi tema favorito: Please Stay
So many good songs. Way less cheesy that remembered. Maybe too many bad covers or karaoke renditions have tainted it.
This is a good album, def a classic.
02/05- Yesterday I worked on some high level items while Sarah was out including adjusting the 2-hour wall barrier and coordinating/completing the UG package set. I then transitioned to ceiling development and updating pads at the penthouse to match Jasons new sized equipment. This album has a ton of great songs although it was a little to sexual "baby making music" for focusing at work. Can never go wrong with "Let's Get It On", definitely a song added to my library.
Iconic as this album is, I don't think it's really something that resonates with my tastes. It's too slushy and gauzy, all cooing string arrangements and twinkling vibes. However, even if it does fall, just about, on the wrong side of the line where schmaltz is concerned, Gaye's singing is impeccable. For that alone, Let's Get It On is worthy of respect, after a fashion
I like to listen to it, even not being exactly my kind of music. Maybe is just some type of bad influence, but it sounds like old romantic music for my mother....
Mola
1973, Soul, klingt träumerisch, kein schlechtes Album, schwache 3/5
Had not listened to the whole album before. Obviously the title track is a great song, but perhaps the album relies too much on that vibe, most clearly evidenced by the song "Keep Gettin' It On".
Highlights: Lets Get It On Just to Keep You Satisfied
Ahhh. I have only heard "Let's Get It On" the song in a joke context, so kind of fun to listen to it without that. It's a nice song though. I love the trumpets. 1. First two tracks are a little too similar. 2. "If I Should Die Tonight" has a niiiice silky smooth groove. Those horns tho. 3. "Keep on Gettin' It On", meh. Obviously just trying to repeat the theme of "Let's Get It On" for some reason. I would of not included this at all. 4. "Come Get to This" is a bit more jaunt-y fun. Like walking down a city street with a spring in your step. 5. At this point, I kind of dropped off. Hah. Thematically it's a bit worn out now though, like I couldn't seriously play this for seduction without laughing. Remember "Delilah" on the radio? Reminds me of that love-y soft-rock. I think there's better Marvin Gaye than this album.
Solid, but none of the songs really spoke to me
Baby makin music
Exatamente como eu esperava.
Even better that this majestic voice came right after an album from the grouchy tom waits. There was one song transition that threw me off or else it would have been 4 stars.
Talented singer. Very much like the album.
Great and all but gets a bit samey for me.
pretty good.
Quite good. Very obvious influences on Anderson .Park’s sound. Doesn’t have the same impact as What’s Going On? Highlight: Come Get to This Lowlight: You Sure Love to Ball
Not usually my kinda thing but these are pleasant on the ears. I could totally see myself driving through the Vegas strip at night with this on in the background.
The original sex soundtrack haha. I've heard the title track but the rest is an unknown. So far pretty cool, nice and easygoing. I probably wouldn't put this in my regular listening playlist, but it's been pretty enjoyable. 3/5.
It’s simply not my taste in music—it’s just too soft for me—but I have to say one thing: Marvin Gaye has a great voice.
I liked a couple of songs, loved his voice, got repetitive in the end.
Josie- 6/10 Mike- 5/10 Sunbathing in the garden
Let's not. Nothing against Marvin, just not my genre, not my jam.
1,9/5
I think I dont have soul
Cover - It's strong, except the font, which is kinda ass? Love the picture though. Let's Get it On is obvs ubiquitous, but uhhh every song is just that song over and over again?? 'Keep gettin' it On' literally so. 'Come Get To This' a bit better. Yer man sure likes getting laid.
While "Let's Get It On" (song) is an absolute banger, the rest of the album doesn't hold the same energy. Like many albums on this list I'm appreciative I took the time to listen to it and wish my musical appreciation was better shaped to really see these albums for what they are vs what feels more like sonic mush to my ears.
i dunno. maybe i just wasn't in the mood for Marvin when I listened to this but I found it rather dull
Really boring and put me to sleep. I didnt find it that good.
Just finished the whole album (which is thankfully 30mins) and I have Let’s Get It On still stuck in my head. I don’t know what that means but I don’t think it’s good- obviously none of the other songs stuck with me.
Tacky, like the sheets in the honeymoon suite at a roadside motel somewhere in the middle of nowhere Nebraska.
-came out the year my mum was born :-) -not really my thing! it's sex-saturated in a way that i don't love. also can't get over the sense that it's too poppy for my taste, which is not something i would usually complain about. -having a song midway thru your album called "keep gettin' it on" is kinda funny. man knew he had one unkillable single and made an album for shits n giggles. -favourite track is "distant lover" i like how dreamy it is. but probably not anything i'll put on much.
Great title track followed by a bunch of forgettable filler. 🤷♀️
The title track is iconic and love the cover art but the rest didn’t grab me. Rating: 2.4
5/5 for the title track. Everything else sounds exactly the same.
Let's Get It On is so smooth and fluid that it washes right over me without making an impression. The drums and strings sound impeccable, and the songs are largely formless, buoyed by Gaye's vocals. Despite that, I find this fairly lightweight musically; nothing jumps out at you and there's very little distinctive about it. The formlessness of the songs can go from relaxing and hypnotic to meandering. Of course you're not here for the music, but as impressive as Gaye's vocals are they're also very polite and reined-in. If Gaye is as horny as these lyrics imply, I wish a little bit of that passion would come through. There are plenty of soul albums with more feeling behind them than this one. If you're a fan of pretty voices and laid-back jams, this album is for you. But I find it a little too similar to other smooth soul to get hot and bothered by it.
Nej tack. Hade räckt med en singel
Yeah it's a great track, and a great go to song in certain scenes etc but a whole album of basically the same is a little much, even if only a little over half an hour...
It's hard for me to write this without doubting myself, but I just don't enjoy this music enough to appreciate it.
Wow, this whole album really is about one theme...
The songs were just.. boring? I was certainly not in the right mood for this, and I can see why this type of music might be called baby-making music. But I still probably wouldn't put it on in a romantic setting considering how cheesy it would be. At least the album was short!
Ugh, this is one of those releases that solely relies on one hit. "Let's Get it On" is a great song, and "Distant Lover" is pretty good, but the rest of this is just uninteresting filler, including a reprise of the first track. Really not essential, but Marvin's performance and legacy is too damn good for a low low score. 2/5
Iconic song, but the rest of the album wasn’t my cup of tea!
Somebody get this man a cold towel. Anyway, this one isn’t for me, dull soppy bollox and what feels like a total waste of a good band.
I know it’s in the pantheon, but left me a little cold
Let's not get it on
I knew the opener/title track as it's been used in various meme clips over the years. That's about as good as things got. The rest kind of just festered in my ears without leaving much of an impression. Do people really still "get it on" to this shit in the year 2026?
The kind of album I could imagine wannabe lotharios throwing on in the background while they try to seduce a laydee. Have to wonder whether Marvin was really happy recording this stuff. Track 4 is basically "wasn't Get It On great, let's have some more". Weak.
Good but I wasn't really in the mood for this today
Let's not Marvin. Use that charm on someone else. Its not going to work. But the right amount of cash could change my mind Marvin.
Didn't help
Too mellow
This album was a huge let down after previously reviewing “what’s going on”. There’s just a whole lot of forgettable tracks that all sound similar to the last. No big deviation from sound. I will concede that like always the production on this album is amazing it’s so gentle and buttery smooth. And most importantly I can’t downplay how significant “let’s get it on” is in all of pop culture. It’s nearly impossible to separate this song from the idea of having sex, it’s so synonymous with sex it’s the go to gag song for characters about to get it on in every tv show and movie for the past 40/50 years! That’s no small accomplishment when most songs are about sex to begin with so to the “THE sex song” is a real feat. But yah one song can not carry a whole album very far, it may drive record sales but it doesn’t work as a whole album.
⭐️⭐️ Not my vibe.
Title track doing a lot of heavy lifting here.
Joar er singt krass, is alles bekannt, aber is irgendwie Nix besonderes mehr 2-3
While there’s no denying that this is a classic album with a significant place in music history, this will likely be the last time I listen to it. The music simply doesn’t resonate with me. I’ve never been a fan of Marvin Gaye, and “Let’s Get It On” is overplayed in movies and TV commercials. I can appreciate how groundbreaking it must have been when it first came out, but for me, it feels like it has reached its expiration date, much like sour milk.
too sexy for me. felt unconfortable. this says more about me than the album.
Good, but not my thing.
Good I guess. Not an album I want to listen to. I think my problem is that the first song reminds me of all those dumb British romcoms.
Probably was a great album in 1973, not a good one for me at this moment
I appreciate the music but it's just a bit nothing
Not crazy about it. Horny: The Album.
Soul, R&B - Love songs. Nice instrumentation.
Horny album
Obviously I am familiar with the title track, but the album as a whole (even though it was short) just all felt like a repetitive but worse version of that first track
Definitely hard to get through! I ended up liking 2 songs off the album. 2/5 ⭐️
kinda repetitive
hmmmm zou m niet snel nog een keer opzetten maar niet slecht
This was possibly the most disappointing album I've heard so far. I thought I'd love this and as let's get it on started I was sure I would, but after that iconic intro it just... I dunno... Sort of carries on. Nothing in it is as good as the start. It just continued and I got a bit bored. None of the other songs could bring me back in, the one that was just let's get it on some more was a disappointing way of suggesting they didn't know what else to do. It was pretty short, that was good. I am sad about this rating.
Undeniably great voice, love the harmonies, but ultimately it's a vibe that doesn't fit with why I listen to music. Fave tracks: Distant Lover
Ah mano, muito mela cueca de mais...
kliss klass
I liked the songs well at least two or three. The album in itself felt a little repetitive at least sound wise but since I like listening to similar songs it felt very soulful and warm.
romantico, suave, bien de fondo pero se hace largo
Wow this was really uncomfortable to listen to while getting my ingrown toenail removed
Added one song to my liked list, so that's something. Fantastic singer, just not my cup of tea.
Virkelig fed fløde. Ikke lige noget, jeg forestiller mig at sætte på igen.
Meh, zou niet zo snel een heel album luisteren.
Lekkere muziek maar 1 nummer is echt genoeg.
