Reviews (page 11 of 13)

T'was okay.

Accurate album description. Some great tunes arrangements and playing) and others less so

It's never terrible, but also never really good. When I listened I was always between bored and quite pleased.

Yeah, it kind of makes me want to have sex with someone. Good job, Marv'.

Good instrumentals and love his voice however, it gets a little annoying by the 4th track it despite being a rather short album(gets a little repetitive). 3.5/5

Enjoyed this album.

Soulful, groovy, and sexy.

It's a good album. "Let's Get It On" is my favorite track, and by far peoples' favorite in general given the number of listens in comparison to the number of listens for the others. 3/5.

Decent, would have on in background, but each song is far too repetitive and samey

A bit samey for me, but I don't think the atmosphere of a frigid dog walk was the right one for it's sexy vibes. I can imagine it has a time and place. Wins points for an objectively great voice and some lovely arrangements, particularly liked Just to Keep you satisfied. Hadn't heard Distant Lover before and liked that track a lot. 6 on 10.

Cool album, oozing with sensuality and great musicianship.

If you like slower, sensual music, this is the album for you! Unfortunately, it is not the album for me - I technically listened to the whole thing but I couldn't focus. There's nothing wrong with it, just not my thing!

First track is epic, and then I assume anyone listening is banging the person they played it for, because it just kinda fades to okay.

point8.

I'm not sexy enough

Listening to this in a car with two rowdy kids probably wasn't the intended backdrop for this album. I really enjoyed the drums throughout the album and specifically the track "Please Don't Stay"

Another one where I like the songs individually, but put them all together and .. it’s a bit much.

This was the first of my 1001 albums. Unfortunately, it was not my style due to its mellowness and somewhat repetitive nature. However, I appreciate Gaye's contribution to the genre.

This is decent. Other than the title track and Distant Lover, not much stands out but I don't think this is the kind of record for intense in depth listening if you get my drift. (It's for boning)

this made me uncomfortable

undeniably smooth and overwhelmingly sexy. tbh it was a little much and felt super repetitive to me but maybe that's what he was going for, idk. what's going on was a much better album in my opinion but i get the appeal here. my favorite part was absolutely how he opens the album with let's get it on and then a couple tracks later is like remember the good old times we shared with let's get it on seven and a half minutes ago? well here's let's get it on 2: keep gettin' it on. absolute power move and marvin gaye is an icon for it. favorites: actually just those... let's get it on and keep gettin' it on

It is masterfully creative and reflects a stuffing artistic bravery. But in 50 years, I've just never enjoyed listening to the morass that follows the title track; which is frustrating because it sounds gorgeous and Marvin Gaye had one of the prettiest voices of the 20th Century. I appreciate the effort at crafting a set of politically minded songs. But there is nothing poetic in the lyrics. And the melodies sound like little more than modal improvisation. So I spend 40 minutes begging it to coalesce - musically - but it never does.

I enjoyed it but not for me

We are all sensitive people Nowhere near the levels of Whats Going On and doesn't have the funkyness of what came after. It's good, but not as good as I thought it was going to be

Source of 1000 commercials and 10000 babies.

I immediately recognized the first song and was jamming along, but throughout the albums I got a wee bored. I think as time went on it was too sleepy sounding to me and I was almost like falling asleep? It was really soothing and everything but maybe a bit too much.

A fun listen but short.

A few years ago a friend asked me to name the album that had the biggest differential between opening track and the rest of the album and i was stumped, but i may have found it. Whats going on is an all time great song, seriously god tier. Rest of the album is pretty meh but ticks along without much offence.

I think I prefer Marvin’s stuff on war and poverty, less into the shagging stuff. Simpsons: Yes

Obviously I was familiar with with Let's Get It On, a classic shagging song and great for initiating sex. But I didn't realise just how horny Marvin was, and dedicated to providing a soundtrack to the full sexual experience. Keep Gettin' It On really encourages the listener to maintain their session in the bedroom, and showcases Marvin's passion for the subject.

Similar to his previous album, this one was a pleasant and easy listen.

It was IGHT

I own this album on vinyl--the first track is obviously iconic, and the rest of the album continues in the same hyper-sexy vein. Very smooth. I never feel very comfortable hearing people moan sexually in songs; perhaps this is my prudishness coming through--so "You Sure Love to Ball" is definitely cringe-inducing for me (it's feels like the same sort of embarrassment I feel when I watch a movie with my parents in the room and there's a sex scene. Gross). Overall, a solid album with consistent sound, though it's not my favorite Marvin Gaye album (probably because of the above. Is it too sexy for me? Too smooth? Too smoothly sexy? Too sexily smooth? Probably.)

I am convinced that this is an album solely made for love making. Now, that might seem obvious, I mean it's literally called \" Let's Get It On\". But 30 minutes give or take? Sounds about average if you include foreplay. It even has a mid-point callback to \"Let's Get It On\" called \"Keep Gettin' It On\" as if to encourage lovers to keep going. You can do it! In all seriousness, it's a good album. A bit homogeneous in its sound, maybe. But enjoyable nonetheless. I'll definitely be putting this on next time my wife and I head to the bedroom.

Sounds good but there’s only so much oozy babying that one can take.

Fyrir það hvað þetta albúm að vera þá var það bara mjög gott. Lögin öll keimlíkur ástaróður til unaðsstunda með kvenfólki. Góð bakgrunnstónlist en við hvaða tilefni veit ég ekki... eða hvað?

Smooth Mr Gaye, real smooth.

3.5/5. Beautiful singing. Way too much sex.

not my jam I think but I can respect it

Ah, the sex album. The one with the sex song. Where the very first four notes already make you feel like you're being touched indecently. 5/5 as musical accompaniment for a limited number of highly specific use cases. 3/5 any other time.

Overall: 6/10 The horny levels are off the charts with this one. I don't really have any major issues with this album but I expected there to be more variety. The talent is obviously there. Marvin is a legend for a reason. I just can't imagine myself ever listening to this seriously. It just sounds like the same song over and over again. Fav Song: You Sure Love to Ball Least Fav Song: Come Get to This

I think Marvin Gaye is a bit too overrated. Like, his voice is amazing for sure, but there were other artists in the 70s that did what he did better. Nevertheless, this is a good album, the songs are groovy and he sings amazing

Objectively clearly very cool but I just can't imagine myself choosing to put this on, it's just not a style of music I enjoy.

This one is pretty good. I like the musicianship and it doesn’t overstay its welcome. Not my thing but a pleasurable listen.

"Passionate" in almost every meaning of the word

It’s just very easy listening, maybe too easy. I did enjoy he’d not got his point across enough on the first song so had to double back a few songs later to highlight how much he wanted to have sex. 3.5/5

Hentugt undirspil fyrir kynferðislegan berserksgang. Hjóm við hlið Hvað er að frétta? En fín lög á milli. Endurspilun, 3,5.

If you are with someone and they turn this album on there is no doubt what they are looking to do! He has a beautiful voice, smooth and silky. I like the saxophone in If I Should Die Tonight. Maybe it says something about my love life, but it was a little long. A full 31 minutes of sexy and slow that sounded the same was a little longer than I need ;)

This is a little too much on the lite rock side for me. It's a cool sexy vibe thing. It's fine but I think I would like it more if he had named all the songs something to do with Getting it On cuz then it would be a "concept album". 1.) Let’s Get It On = same 2.) Please Don’t Stay = We Can’t Get It On if You Leave 3.) If I Should Die Tonight = If I Should Die Getting it On 4.) Keep Gettin’ It On = same 5.) Come Get To This = Come Get It On 6.) Distant Lover = Getting It On From a Distance 7.) You Sure Like to Ball = You Sure Like to Get It On 8.) Just To Keep You Satisfied = It’s Too Late To Get It On

Sexy and cool, I like his voice and his vibe but it all kinda sounded the same.

200/1001 🌕🌕🌗🌑🌑

The OG Music For Making Babies Fløde stemme og lummer stemning. Og ret kedeligt.

Im surprised I didn't like this more. It's good but I didn't think great. 3.5

Just had in on the background at work and didn’t get to listen too closely. Sounded good, but might want to listen more closely another time

Pretty nice

Damn this is one horny dude. There's more to life than just getting it in man. Let's get it on is an absolute classic (in some scenarios...) but other than that the album does kind of drag and I think like his personal life, he's a little too hyper focused on one thing.

Previously rated: Here, My Dear (3/5) ************************ Everyone knows the first 30 seconds of this album. The problem is when we hear it now, we think of Applebee's and Swiffer mops. Anyway, what we have here is more sexy time music. It didn't really put me in the mood, but it probably works better on the ladies anyway. I suspect "You Sure Love to Ball" isn't about basketball.

It’s a vibe for sure. My dad ruined this album when he told me what him and my mom did to it. It’s fine. It’s overrated for sure. I’m sorry boys. I much prefer some other albums by Marvin. Sexy doesn’t mean great. Fav song: Distant Lover

Not something I’d listen to again

Good. Some spots that obviously inspired Alabama Shakes.

Horny. Why are you Gaye?

Let’s get it on like Marvin Gaye

Very fun and sexy album.

The problem with boning as an act of political protest is that while it penetrates, it never punctures. A perennial fave in college dormitories, the title track taken alone may seem to go only skin-deep. But it's just the surface of Marvin's landmine excavation of his soul.

Seems to be the standard with MG albums - title track is a classic and then the rest of the album sounds like a generic version of the title track. Good in the background but not something I'll put on unless seducing the misses.

What's going on is just sooooo much better

Another classic, probably wont return

I can't work out what this album is about. Actually, of course I can. I have children.

Soulful..that's all iv got

The title track is a horny banger, the rest of the album never matches its smooth, swaggering and delicious giddiness. But Marvin’s voice is always a joy to listen to.

Wanted to like this more than I ended up liking it. Nothing stood out enough where I want to come back to it

Good album. Gaye’s voice is great and the songs are pretty good. A little too slow for my liking . 3.5/5 Might listen again

Easy background noise

Yep, great voice.

Interesting 70s record. I won't have it in my collection but I wouldn't complain if it starts playing.

I liked it.. good soul music

Soul, 1973 -> 3

Classic, although a bit too sweaty for my taste. But the n again: thinking about some situations one might play this album it may be just about right.

Just classic

Fine music with superb sax contributions but man, all these oohs and aahs and baby's.

A little bit to smooth and sexy for me.

3 - Some stuff would set the mood, but overall just blended together for me and nothing jumped out

OK Great voice - unique - too bad he got killed. a less

Probably a 3.5 I think. A vibe, but I HATE songs about sex that have weird thoughts on women

Definitely some sexy smooth jazz! A lot of the songs feel very similar (not a lot of variety)

Never heard the album before. Gaye sounds great and his songs mixing sexuality and spirituality feel cutting edge even today. Let's Get it On is a standout but the rest doesn't resonate. "If the spirit moves ya, let me groove ya good"

Never heard the whole album before. Title track is great and Keep Gettin' It On was a nice surprise for me.

i don’t wanna know how many bedrooms this was playing in in the 70s

he knows what he wants and boy does he express it

This man was HORNY!

In the timeframe of the seventies, his was one of the powerful voices that compelled people to listen. The message was never hurtful

Title track is a classic. The rest of the album was nice, but not one I’ll return to

Sensual-feeling R&B

I love me some MG, but all of his tunes outside the hits just sound like generic Motown R&B from that period. He even reuses the beat from Let's Get It On unironically on a different track. 2.5/5

decent, a good soul album overall. Enjoyed it.

His voice is really amazing, but as iconic as this album is, I just couldn't really get into it.

Was going to give it a higher review, but it stopped just as I was getting into it. 3.5

hell yeah, let's GET it on!!

Soul's most plaintive murder victim is back with another meme track opener. And another very smooth and effortless album where the songs all sound suspiciously similar. Yeah very nice. Not as revolutionary as 'What's going on' but a solid example for all other soul singers to wonder at.

Good way to start an easy morning.

awesome opening track but everything else. sounds the same

was alone with the cat listening to this and it made me want to fuck the cat

Was alone listening to this and now I want to fuck Wiggins's cat

It's got the drip. But beyond that, it's solid is a little reparative.

This album is so RnB funk vibes I love it, favs are please don’t stay (once you go away) and distant lover. The songs kinda sounded the same at some points so more variation would be nice but solid 3/5

Didn’t love this as much as I thought I would.

This was good. But not really the type of music I’m into. His vocals are incredible. His story is so tragic.

All baby making music, a lot of songs sound similar but they’re good

3.4/5 listened 3x. cool album and even though i enjoyed it, not too interested in listening all the way through anytime soon.

This album doesn't hold a candle to what's going on but what does?

I never really thought about it but the opening guitar lick on this album is one of the most iconic guitar lines of all time. And it’s only played that one time, it never repeats. But if you play that one line most anybody will know what it is. Aside from that, I wasn’t huge on this album. Marvin Gaye has an incredible voice, but he be never clicked with his music. I can appreciate it, he’s a talented songwriter, I just don’t like the songs. Nothing wrong with them, just not my taste.

I liked let’s get it on which was on the radio all the time when I was growing up. The rest of the album was ok, but all sounded very similar. His later songs w Tammy Terrell were much more enjoyable.

It was a little weird listening to the title track to this album while walking through Aunt Mary’s neighborhood. Didn’t know any other songs; album was fine.

This was better than I expected. Liked “side 2” better than “side 1”, although the title track that leads it all off is a classic. Too bad he was taken from us so soon. Fine looking gentleman as well.

Before: “Oh, I’ve only heard one song off this album” After: “Ah, I get now why I’ve only heard one song off this album”

Good voice aye

Amazing opening track. Apart from that. The rest of the album was OK.

Too sexy for me. She likes to rides repetitive lyrics started to make me uncomfortable.

Decent, not my type of music

Classic but didn’t really enjoy it that much?

I dread to think how many people were conceived to this album haha. It’s fine, a classic, but not one I would really come back to.

Thoughts before listening: This is certainly a classic album, but also one I don't believe I've heard. I mean I know the title track which is one of the sexiest songs of all time, but I don't believe I've heard the rest. Interested to see why it gets so much praise. Review: Man, Marvis was feeling randy on this album huh? "Lets Get It On", "Keep Gettin' It On", "You Sure Love to Ball", "Just to Keep You Satisfied", etc...just the names of these songs let you know what this album is about. The title track is a stone cold classic that is always nice to hear. The rest feels like retreads of that song despite Marvin's lovely voice. This is nice pleasant background music, but its not something that I feel I would listen to very often. 3-stars

I like it less than what's going on

It was good if I was in the 70s tryna rizz up a shordy for every day listening it was alright i do love a good sax tho

If this had been any longer, it would have received less than 3 stars. As it is, I didn't hate it enough to give it lower than 3 stars, but it was purely background music while it was playing.

I think anyone needing to do a lie detector test should listen to a Marvin Gaye album before they take it because is voice can lower your blood pressure and heart rate, and relieve stress while you listen. For me though, it is not a favoured style of music but still a good 3 star album or solid C+.

Moderately interesting but thematic sameness dooms it to mediocrity.

A generational talent. That being said his music just doesn't appeal to me that much 🤷‍♂️

Though the title song is probably one if the most emblematic songs in the world, I was less impressed with the rest of the album. I will give it a couple more spins to see if it catches on, but for now 3 stars.

Soulful, funky, masterfully played. Wonderful basslines and string parts, and great vocal arrangements and performances. That said, the album was a little one-note, and it wasn't very long, but I still was kind of relieved when it was over and I could get some more variety. Three stars.

Marvin really does love getting’ it on

It's not my favorite Marvin Gaye album.

Marvin Gaye has a remarkable singing voice. Let’s Get It On is pretty catchy and everything on the album is well executed. But! This music exists for one reason and one reason only, and I think we all know what that reason is. Outside of a very specific context- or possibly a slow dance - it doesn’t appeal to my taste. Great work though just not my bag. A little too slow and romantic.

good album over all, not a fan of the moaning on you sure love to ball

extremely pleasant listen but every song is identical. short & sweet so thats OK with me.

Decent album. Not a fan of the 4 slower songs but I do like the other 4, especially the title track 'Lets Get It On'. 3- stars.

Enjoyable as a background noise album outside of title track.

Perhaps in the 70s before netflix and air conditioned bedroom, something like this might have been necessary for getting your wife in the mood. Perhaps in the 70s the musical landscape was so much less dramatic that the soft crunes of Marvin Gaye were enough to satisfy your mind. Beyond the first two tracks which I think are excellent, the songs are a bit too sparse for me. There isn't much to chew on in the latter half of the album and I found myself waiting for the some of those iconic melodies that Motown is known for. That relief never came and I found myself bored, and wanting more. This style of slow-burning musical foreplay doesn't really suit me.

Good album. Just not my preferred genre and a bit too downbeat for me.

Good but too lovey

30-minute swim down a peanut butter slide. "If I Should Die" sounds eerily prophetic, but then again, so does any song about dying.

loved this but the moaning sample knocked it down to 3.5/5 😭😭😭😭

# Playlist track - Let's Get It On # Notes - One of the most iconic album openings ever. - Nothing else in the album quite beats that single moment. Not the track. The opening 3 seconds. - Not to say that it's a bad album. It's pretty enjoyable all around.

Solid. “Romantic” not his best album.

A little cheesy, but basically perfectly nice.

I suppose I prefer it to him singing about his ex for a whole album, but this still ain’t it. Don’t get the hype.

Pleasant. Not as good as What's going on which came a couple days ago funnily enough. Less social issues and entirely love related, which gets a bit boring after a while. Appreciate the short run time though. Combining the best from the two albums and you've potentially got something pushing 5* on your hands.

Some unbelievable tracks... and some redundant.

Never listened to Marvin Gaye really, but the first note of the album was instantly recognizable. It's good throughout. Will I listen to again: 40%

Heeeeurlijk

Let’s get it on was wel goed. De rest was ook wel interessant

Very nice

One great song. . . He has a great voice and magnetic presence. But his sensibilities and taste in songs. . . is of a different time and place. It feels 50 years old.

Some classics, but not something that stands out to me now.

Classic R&B album. Not a bad song on here, yet I was still a bit underwhelmed for some reason.

Good R&B album.

Bang a gong.

Not the genre I usually listen to, but it was definitely interesting to hear some soulful music from half a century ago. I also recognized a Kanye sample from his debut album on the track 'Spaceship', which was a cool find. All in all I enjoyed it but it didn't leave a big impression on me unfortunately.

If only I had a 3.5. Well, I don't, but it is right in the middle. I liked the songs on it, but not peak soul. I usually love soul, and this was good, but yeah, as I said. In the middle of 3 and 4. I'll give it a 3.

Répétitif

This album feels like the beginning of soul. Relevance to this list: 5/5 Personal Enjoyment: 3/5

not bad, just basic

Not available

MG had a tremendous voice.

Proper bedroom music, not as good album What’s Going On

It was OK; some stuff was overplayed on the radio, making it difficult for listening.

Not bad, not What’s Going On, but still enjoyable.

Great album just slow

Yeah, okay, sensual.

Not my taste but some great tracks

Another catchup album for me, and I echo the impressions and comments of the group. Landmark album for sure, albeit somewhat compartmentalized and situational (THE situation). Well above average for the genre, I’ll give it a 3.5/5 rounding down.

Les arrangements, l’interprétation retenue servent l’ambiance intime

It was okay. Not my bag but the dude has pipes.

Gaye really leans into the sexually suggestive theme he's going for, and the songs are good in isolation, but it's a lot to hear a full album of this. Perhaps the genre is just not for me, or perhaps I wasn't listening to the music in its intended setting... Anyway, surprisingly I don't think I've ever heard the title song all the way through until now. As a final note, I could do without the moaning sounds at the start of "We sure love to ball."

Too sexy. Very distracting on my drive to work.

Yeh was fine.

Groove

I wasn't really into soul in the 1970's and I'm not about to start now.

10 a.m. listening to “Let’s Get It On.” Sure why not. Very horny stuff

Good songwriting. A whole lot going on and really interesting to listen. Positively surprised but unfortunately absolutely not my cup of tea.

Baby making music

Smooth music. The opening is hard to take seriously after years of memes.

I feel like I should like Marvin Gaye more than I actually do

Quick fun album. I think it’s strong but i think what’s going on was a better album for me. Super smooth tho

I think I should go to the dentist now...

Okay, but it gets a bit to sweet

I liked the part about sex

Appreciate this for what it is, but not really my vibe

High 3. It is incredibly high quality, just not really my style. I much prefer what’s going on?

I’ve listened to a Marvin Gaye album before, but it sadly didn’t have that one baby-making song on it. Fortunately, today’s album opens with that beloved track, and I’m excited to hear how it follows on from that. Let’s listen! Songs I already knew: Let’s Get It On Favourites: Let’s Get It On This was a bit of an odd one. Firstly, the whole album is super sexy and makes any listeners gyrate. If you’re into gyrating, you’ll probably like this. If not, you’ll get bored after a few minutes. The strangest thing for me was that track 4 is called Keep Gettin’ It On and is practically the same song as the opener. It has the same chords, same vibe and everything. If it was a 30 second interlude callback I could get it, but it’s a full blown song which makes gives the biggest feeling of deja vu. Overall, I can see the appeal with this, but it’s not really my kind of vibe.

Okay, but not something I'd listen to on a normal day

So groovy. The non-super famous songs didn’t really strike me as that good, so I wouldn’t really seek it out to listen, but it’s solid. 6.5/10

6/10 - The opening of the first song I had heard plenty of times but I did not know what song it was. Other than that it was groovy sometimes and it was fine at other times.

let get it on is epic, rest was decent 6.9/10

Had no idea the same album had a sequel track to Let's get it on...my man Marvin really likes to sing about doing it. His voice is amazing, the title track is obviously an all time great song...the rest I was whelmed by. Love me some Motown, but this was pretty average.

How many babies is this album responsible for? Perhaps Japan can solve its birth rate problem by blasting this in the streets of Tokyo.

I think the significant others of the bros in this group are in for a treat this weekend! Just a gaggle of horned up bros looking to GET. IT. ON. These are my confessions: 1) I didn’t know this album existed. I prob would have said Let’s Get it On was on his What’s Going On album. 2) I thought for sure this would be no less than a 4 star album. But it was kind of one note to me. 3) In the words of Flight of the Conchords: My rhymes are so potent that in this small segment I made all of the ladies in the area pregnant Yeah, sometimes my lyrics are sexist But you lovely bitches and hoes should know I'm trying to correct this 3.5/5

It was ok, some bangers but lots of slow songs, snooze

Some of the songs were what I like others.....

Not bad, never listened to this album. I give it a straight 3 stars

Short and sweet with one of the most well-known intros in the world. There's some good vocals and all going on in this album which leads me to a 3.5, but I personally didn't hear much to ever really hook me in, despite being such a short album.

From Let’s Get Killed to Let’s Get It On… two kinds of people, I guess. Anyway, while I don’t claim to know a ton of Marvin Gaye’s music, I do know the title track, but mostly because it’s pretty much become a meme at this point. For that reason, it’s honestly a little hard for me to take the track seriously, but I will say, it slowly grows more enjoyable once you get further into it and past the initial signature guitar wah-wahs. Aside from that, this album is nothing but an absolutely enjoyable blast of sexy soul music, something probably few do better than Marvin Gaye. Admittedly, it mostly runs together and is a bit one-note, but when you have said note down to a tee, why would you change it up? The album does an amazing job of setting and maintaining a vibe without ever growing tiring, and as a result, I found myself grooving in my chair to a good chunk of this and thinking about my Sauga gal. Definitely not the most distinct thing I’ve heard nor is it the type of thing I see myself putting on often in my free time, but I enjoyed it quite a bit here. You really can’t go wrong with a lot of Motown, and this album is no exception.

Way too horny.

good, but not my taste

No bad

Whoa! Calm down Marvin. Bit too much mate...

Marvin Gaye is/was fantastic but this album is soppy mush Songs for Sexytime, and not really what I'm into. Let's Get it On, is a classic though.

Sexy music. Maybe too much sexy, maybe it's now cringy sexy music? But then, who doesn't sure love to ball?

I have come to realize that I find the love making music genre just ok. It doesn’t do anything for me. The music is fine and the vocals are great but overall I am just whelmed by it. 6/10

sexy :D

Really enjoyed this listen. Obviously familiar with the title track, which is just an absolute banger to start the album with. As it continued, the songs started to blend together and I kept finding myself looking for that next “Let’s Get It On” moment from the title track. Never really found it, but it still surprised me how much I enjoyed this. This is an album that is a perfect pairing with a winters night dinner at home that I cooked with my wife.

Really horny. Title track is obviously great, but other songs are forgettable. MG and everyone involved has way better albums.

#108. This album is pretty good. Great even. Probably even one of the best when it comes to soul music. But soul music in general is just kinda middle of the pack music, and my score for this album reflects that. Good as it may be, this kind of album is not the kind of thing you'd just pop on on a regular raggedy ass Tuesday when if you wanted to listen to something. 3/5: it has its place, but that place is not at the top of the list.

Let's Get It On is obviously a classic, but whole album not really my cup of tea

One of those classic albums that's a classic for a reason. Not my style, but it is very culturally relevant.

Very Nice

Shoutout to Rob from 1001 Album Club when host Birch asked "what do (you) think about this album?". His response is apt: (bangs table between each word): "this album is scientifically engineered for fucking". Hard agree, Rob. Overall: 6/10

Repetitive

Was funny to listen to, very corny

Good sounds, clear sound, just not something I would repeatedly play.

Already a huge Marvin fan. Let’s see if I discover something new.

Okay, so I acknowledge that this was a good album from an objective standpoint. But I do t think I’m a big funk guy. The lyrics were great, especially on the last song. But the singing just didn’t do it for me, plus funk is okay 3.5

Ja. Mag ich wohl. Aber trifft meinen Musikgeschmack nur bedingt.

It's concerning that listening to this album got me pregnant. Especially since I am a 53 year old dude.

Notable track: Let’s Get it On

With zero context about the man’s life, this album is a great display of deconstructed masculinity. It reads as a man who is not insecure in himself or his relationships, which allows him to be vulnerable and ask what he wants of the women he’s speaking to. Let’s Get It On feels more like an invitation than a one sided pining. UNTIL you hit the final song, which documents the end of his first marriage, and shows incredible strength of seeing where their relationship isn’t working and finally letting it go. Now, I looked up Marvin Gaye’s bio because I didn’t want egg on my face, and he had some ISSUES. Take my assessment with a cowlick of salt. He also wrote most of the album in the middle of his first marriage, so maybe he was manifesting what he wanted for himself. Who knows?

Makes me think of good 70’s Blacksploitation movies. Cool jams but every song is very repetitive. Keep Gettin’ It On was good but just kept going with no variation. I could see putting this on behind a romantic dinner. Tracks added to Spotify: 0

So this a pretty fun album, smooth, sexy and soulful to be sure with some really rich arrangements. Marvin Gaye is in his prime, and in amazing voice. The title track is an all time classic. But after a few songs it just gets thematically tired. You really have to be in the right mood for it. The final track also seems completely out of place. I see what Marvin was doing with it, but it would have worked better had he transitioned more subtly to it, or just saved it for another album. Fave Songs: Let's Get It On, Come Get to This, Distant Lover, If I Should Die Tonight

Not a fan of this album unfortunately

Of course an incredible voice, and the title track is STELLAR, but beyond that it falls flat.

ganz schön raunchy

It was an impressive feat to follow up the message of “What’s Going On” with the sultry passion of “Let’s Get it On.” Unfortunately, beyond the opening title track, there’s not much to dig into here. “Please Don’t Stay,” “If I Should Die Tonight,” and “Keep Getting it On” try to keep the momentum going, but none are as catchy as what precedes them. At least they were better than side two, which was pretty forgettable.

Marvin Gaye was a sexy sounding man. The start of this album is perfectly smooth. I would like Mr. Gaye to sing me almost anything. My only issue is that the slow parts of the album lose my interest even though they are still quite beautiful.

It was pretty good.

A classic title track does not a classic album make. The tile track is amazing, the others try to capture the same magic but can’t. Its brevity keeps this album at z3 stars for me though.

This is supposed to be one of the sexiest albums ever, but I don't feel it. Should have been a little slower, if you ask me. Nothing about this record is bad, but nothing is as good as I hoped it would be. Favorite song: Distant Lover.

Pretty solid soul. This guy as a voice, but I’m not a great fan of the lyrics or the message

This album is a great affirmative argument in favor of editing and being concise. At 30 minutes, it's good. At 35 or 40 it would drag *a lot*. I do wish it had a second big single to buoy the back end though. I'd give this 3.5 if fractional stars were allowed.

Title track is really good. The rest is fine.

Very sexy

A very good album. Very few mistakes. You can hear the influence of chill hip hop beats to study and relax to. I can't wait for his next release.

I think there's an argument to be made that Mr. Gaye has a diagnosable sexual psychiatric problem.

Super horny. I knew the singles. Definitely a record to play for getting down with a new partner. 3.3 stars rounded down.

Erstes Lied ist das bekannte. Ansonsten ganz okay

it does sound pretty good but also not exactly my fav style of music and i didn't need to know all that

sexual style. But also nice on the ears, good head bopper.

Try as I might, I just can't quite seem to discern what the overarching theme of this album is. Does anyone else find it as hilarious as I do that the first 7 tracks are a passionate full court press advocating for getting it on, and then the last track is like, "Well, it's too late..."? It's like the campaign from the first 7 songs was successful, things wrapped up, and reality set in.

Interesting to hear in context. Title track is clearly the hit and the producers/artist knew it from the start

It had a vibe through out the whole album. However the only track that grabbed my attention was the first song.

This is my second Marvin Gaye album amd I prefer the other one. Stand-out: Keep Getting It On

Great voice but a bit too sappy for me

Hypnotizing

Disappointing. A great voice, but the songs on here are hit and miss.

decent, I like What's Going on a lot more

Bit too smooth for me

Nice voice but all the songs sounded the same to me

This one is mood dependent, but I can dig it when that mood hits. Solid 3.5 I feel

great background music but nothing really special for me

- sexy

Nice album for aperos evenings at home

6.5/10 great opener but the rest didn't hit as well

I do think Marvin’s talented, but I just never could get into this or What’s Going On? There’s just something about his sound that doesn’t catch me right. It all sounds the same to me.

He's got a good voice and the songs have iconic production. Wasn't really my thing, but it was still pretty good for what it was. A solid 3/5

Did not like the moaning in "You Sure Love To Ball". The rest has been solid background noise.

I'm not sure if it just is the definition or whether it is so ubiquitous that it feels almost like a trope now, but this album feels like something you want on as a mood setter. It isn't what you actually want to be focusing on. It melts into the background. It's smooth and does a great job at that, but if I'm looking for something to actively listen to, this won't be it.

Objectively good music that I would never seek out of my own accord.

Let's Get It On has been used in a million different things and I don't think I've ever heard it in its entirety. A lot of these songs feel like they could have been like a minute shorter and accomplished the same thing Really liked the short instrumental part in come get this Easy listening but I kept finding myself spacing out

Couple of good songs but otherwise kind of boring.

32 minutes of shagging music lol. Quite samey. Really nice production but does get a bit repetitive

Opening song carried album. Rest of songs were good and matched vibe but didn’t stand out. 6.4/10

Everything you would expect from it, felt awkward listening to it at work. Nastily smooth

absolutely vibey but dont know if I would listen to it later

Pretty good

Over the top

Wasn't bad. Not my style.

Sex music?

Strong start, okay mid, ends mediocre.

There is no denying that Marvin is talented. I just feel like you have to be in a mood to listen to him. I am not a huge fan. The album was good
