Reviews (page 8 of 14)
I've hardly praised any bass playing in all my reviews so far..I don't tend to notice it unless it's really good. John Paul Jones on this record is really, really, really good.
I froth me some electric guitar I’ve noticed a trend with old albums incorporating the harmonica, which I love it Bring It on Home especially the transition into electric guitar WOW Just a really good album with some great hits that all gels well together (minusing one star for Moby Dick, what was that???)
4.5
This was a great listen, that I really enjoyed. Favorites: Heartbreaker, Living Loving Maid (She's Just a Woman)
Classic de classics, buen uso de harmónica Moby Dick infravalorada Marcaron el camino para el mucho del rock que apareció después de este álbum, que ya tiene 57 años 🤯
Before this list I never considered myself a Zeppelin fan but my opinion has changed after listening to a few albums.
Puedo valorar que es una gran banda de música, pero no puedo con el metal.
68 this year (2026) and I cannot believe that I have never sat down and listened to this entire album. My loss is also my joyous discovery. It lost one star for me because of the somewhat naff lyrics.
Close to classic status, just not quite as good as the very best of Zeppelin and other rock acts of the time.
Yes please, thank you.
Still a strong whiff of blues, but an album that's above 50% genius held together by some amazing musicians and Planty's pipes. Good effort, reckon they might have a few more albums in them yet.
Mahtava levy, ainoat vähän heikommat kappaleet ovat lemon song ja bring it on home. Tietty pienenä kuuntelemani levy, voi vähän nostalgia vaikuttaa :)
i love what is and what should never be .. perfect mixture of seductive and raging sounds . I will admit although impressive after awhile they all start to sound the same ..
Pretty good album, yet again another 70s cool vibe driving in a car on a US highway. The album sounds pretty much all the same, nice to listen to it but kinda hard to have a favorite or remember the lyrics.
Lyttet 12/01/26. Den beste roadtrip-skiva. Får en stjerne i trekk pga et par langtekkelige låter. Tips: se dokumentaren Becoming Led Zeppelin, sinnsykt bra doku og første der bandet selv stiller.
Always a good listen
Not the best Led Zeppelin album but still pretty good. Who can't like Whole Lotta Love. Ramble on is also one of my favourites. Their music is always good with some great guitar playing and drum work. Not quite a 5 star forme but getting there.
I mean, it's a classic. Whole Lotta Love still goes hard. Ramble On is the hardest anyone has ever geeked out about the fantasy book they've been reading. The Lemon Song is about lemons and _nothing else_.
Ramble on
Every time I hear a Led Zeppelin album I forget how good they are. This album is not exception
+ melodie + wokalista ma sexy głos + rytmika, bas, wstawki + country / cowboys vibes + momentami podobieństwo do Royal Blood + słyszę śpiewającą pod to Beyoncé + budowanie napięcia + nie wiedziałam że byli już wtedy tacy freaky + różnorodność + momentami soundtrack do filmu - momentami monotonne / nudne - nie lubię tamtych czasów - czasem przewidywalne
Hell yeah
I’ve owned this for decades now, but I feel I got more from it with my listens today. I like how doing this 1001 journey gets me to listen closer than ever before. My accepted take on LZ2 is that of a blues rock album albeit one that pushed boundaries and forever altered the understanding of what a rock band could actually be. What I heard today had far more variety in style than I had remembered. Sure the blues is a thread running right through most of what can be heard, but the deviation is pronounced and sublime. Everyone lets it be known they have chops, and my years of eclectic listening now allows me to see that while Jimmy was key to many aspects of LZ, all of the other 3 have a better claim to MVP when it comes strictly to technical excellence. I think what strikes me most today is how often the music gives me a joyful feeling. Personally I feel they got much better than this, but my god for a heavy rock album from 1969, this is some line in the sand.
2nd verse, same as the 1st.
Solid 8/10 not my usual groove, but I really enjoyed it
Good Zeppelin album.
This is one of those albums that reminds me of my childhood since my dad used to play it a lot. Because of that, it’s hard for me to feel the same excitement about it now, it’s just so familiar. But I have to give credit where it’s due. They put this album together while constantly touring and releasing albums one after another, which is really impressive. Plus, they played a big part in pushing hard rock and early heavy metal forward.
Gud
When to listen: High school nostalgia, need to kick into high gear. Appreciate, then skip songs with excessive moaning.
I'm excited to listen to this album because I love some of Led Zeppelin's songs, and specifically some on this album. Track 1 was my favorite song of theirs when I first became a fan and I recently learned they stole heavily from a Muddy Waters song and were later sued (and lost) for it. This song to me is phenomenal, but the middle instrumental section always felt kind of abrupt and out of place to me, as you can tell they are trying to bring in psychedelic themes. The transition between the opening and the guitar solo felt very off to me, but the solo makes up for it. It truly was life-changing when I heard it for the first time. The vocal performance in the song is just so remarkable and truly authentic for its time. Track 2 starts off more melodically, which is a nice contrast to the rest of the song, but it makes the distortion on the vocals quite noticeable. Now, this doesn't sound as good as I'm sure it did in its prime time. However, the contrast really makes this song unique and fascinating. The upbeat sections are very catchy. It is obvious that Jeff Buckley was inspired by this song when writing "Yard of Blonde Girls," so much so the resemblance was immediately noticeable. Track 3 is lyrically very interesting as it portrays the feeling of choosing someone regardless of your gut feeling, but realizing later that you should not have chosen them against all odds (an unfortunate feeling.) Musically, this song is not as catchy as the first two tracks to me, but the guitar riffs do live up to the prior tracks. What I like most about a lot of Led Zeppelin's earlier, more upbeat songs is that you can hear how much they enjoy making the music. There is authenticity in the vocals and random guitar riffs that come in and out. It draws heavily on the bluesy call and response theme and almost reminds me of Jimi Hendrix in a way. I like that they made music they enjoyed, rather than what they thought others would enjoy. It just so happened to fit both categories perfectly. Track 4 is a lyrically beautiful love song. I like that it is untraditional in the sense that it is not entire melodic/lyrical. In a way, it feels like they are trying to showcase the woman's beauty through the guitar parts and harmonies. Track 5 has such an iconic guitar riff, I think that is true for a lot of their songs. People recognize the general melody, but no one really listens to it enough to know the lyrics. I think this changes a little as they put out more music and their songs become more sing-along-able. Jimmy Page absolutely kills it on the guitar every time, I must say. Track 6 is very vocally impressive and pleasing on the ears. The harmonies within certain lines are phenomenal, and the vocal bends are just so good. Track 7 is honestly a classic, I think when people think of Led Zeppelin they think of "Stairway to Heaven" and this song. It is very good. Track 8 does not appear to have any lyrics, which I think is interesting to add to this particular album because, once again, it shows the passion they have for just making good music. I think it is also important in really highlighting their musical skills and diversity. Track 9 initially reminds me of Elvis Presley, which I wonder if this is their attempt to bring in another, more popular side of blues music. After the intro, the guitar riffs are genuinely so powerful and just mesmerizing. The diversity of this band is just so admirable. I think overall, you can really tell that this is an experimental album and that at the time they were still trying to figure out their sound. However, with this album they found it. It has the classic Led Zeppelin sound, with impressive vocals and rhythmically and harmonically complex guitar riffs. The diversity in individual songs alone is also quite interesting. I thoroughly enjoyed this entire album.
So good! Absolutely vibey and I really enjoyed most of the songs, some of them were unnecessarily long, but they were all really cool regardless. My favorite was probably Thank You, and least favorite was Moby Dick
decent album 7/10
Another one dad got me into at a young age. Seems like a common theme here, dad has good taste
This is such a classic album. Many bangers on here
Oh I really liked this one.
Great classic rock, with some good hits. No reason to skip any song even if not previously familiar with
I am not big on Led Zeppelin, but this is quite enjoyable. 4 stars
Fun album
Classic for a reason. Appreciated the flow of songs
Very clearly greta van fleet's predecessors. Genre defining. But also it somehow feels more experimental the greta van fleet's stuff? Very interesting. Overall pretty good.
A classic but not their best
Loooooong ass songs but good
Yay! Fav: Ramble On
That's what rock music should sound like, maybe the best intro song ever made. So much raw energy, drums and guitar are on point ! Robert Plant's voice may be a bit annoying at some point and there is no other really song that hit as hard as the first one
soooo niiice. loved whole lotta love
This is the first time I hear an entire Elvis album. It’s gritty, emotional and raw. Suspicious Minds is always a favorite.
Best Track - "Whole Lotta Love"
A classic I'd love to own on vinyl.
On the one hand, this album is obviously a key touchstone for rock and roll and heavy metal. On the other hand, it’s full of rock idioms that start to sound less and less cool and more eye-rollingly cliched the older and more listened you get. So the Blues affectations of “Bring It On Home” sound a little cringey today, and there’s the “squeeze my lemon” lyric. Plus, this album’s ubiquity and familiarity have kind of dulled my senses to its charms. Still, Jimmy Page’s rifling and studio-enriched guitar wizardry are awesome, John Bonham hits the motherfucking drums hard, and Adult Me even finds new delights in John Paul Jones’ bass playing.
This one grew on me.
For all the arena rock nonsense they spawned, zep is still a band thats pleasurable to listen to today.
not what i would listen to regularly but i still enjoyed it
I liked it! At some point, the songs blend together but that’s really the style of zeppelin.
4.5
So this is the first album I've been given in what I hope is a long and interesting journey, and what a way to start! Zeppelin are a band whose big hits are the only songs I'm familiar with; this is the first full album of theirs I've listened to the whole way. Highlights for me are the fantastic, almost-sweet Thank You, and of course Whole Lotta Love, bringing the Top Of the Pops nostalgia hard. Heartbreaker, Living Loving Maid and Ramble On are also great.
good music for when it came out, love the vibe
My second Zep album in three days. Thought this one was pretty good too, would definitely listen to it again. A few parts are overly indulgent but on the whole I found it enjoyable.
Classic led Zeppelin
Fabulous...just wish they'd given credit to Willie Dixon
It's a 4.5
Classic rock isn’t usually my lane—overblown guitar heroics and wailing vocals tend to lose me fast. But Led Zeppelin II cuts through that resistance. The riffs hit with real heft, the grooves move with undeniable confidence, and the band plays like a single, tightly coiled unit. It’s an album that demands to be heard as a whole, not cherry-picked track by track. The highs: the drum-bass combo by John Bonham and Paul Jones is amazing and the crisp production helps to highlight all the sounds on this album. The lows: Robert Plant's singing is hit or miss for me. Fav song(s): Thank You
What a lead off track! Hello heavy rock! A great reinterpretation of the blues in a British stylee. As heavy as this gets there’s still room for some great sensitive playing on things like “Thank You” and Ramble On“. All wrapped up nicely with Bring it on Home. A rightful classic. Good to hear you again, old friend 🙂
That was pretty good actually and well worth its reputation.
Definitely not as good as IV, but still a fun listen. It's got a few bangers, and it sounds pretty rocking.
Brings me back to high school
Good album
My friend’s favorite Zep album. Starts with Whole Lotta Love, straight slaps. Moby Dick is so good.
Sure!!
I haven't listened to much Zeppelin, but this was super fun.
great album. 8/10
Me veo influenciada por mi fanatismo con el jazz. Me encanta
It was good but I've always heard this album was one of the greatest and it just didn't quite live up to that status
Honestly a lot better than I was expecting. “Thank You” was lovely and quite a surprise honestly, if anything it does make me want to listen to more Zepplin. It’s a really consistently solid record, however it’s not really a 4/5 in my opinion. I’d give it 3.5 if the website would allow me, but I think its consistency makes it closer to a 4 than a 3.
Man, early Led Zeppelin was the shit. I like their first 2 albums the most, after that it's hit or miss. What I love about this era of theirs is just the raw energy and power the music has. The riffs are so powerful and crushing, they have this noisy distortion to them that adds such a vibe. I think their albums after that are a bit overly polished which takes away from the listening experience. Can't say the same about this, it's just filled with one exciting banger after another. Whole Lotta Love is so so good, that bassline man. Lemon Song? Banger. Ramble On? Banger. Heartbreaker? Banger. Album? Awesome
This album can feel like a national park in the geography of music
4.5 (40:44, 9 tracks, 1969, 2nd album (surprise)) Better than Led Zeppelin I, not as good as Led Zeppelin 4 Why didn't I give it a 5? Because I'm stingy with 5's and saving my Zeppelin 5 for Zep IV. Still a great album. Looking at the online criticism (and really there isn't much, just don't sort by top comments) it appears almost everyone gives this a 4 or a 5. For those that don't. . . I don't get the criticism that it's 'cock rock' well duh of course it is. It was 1969 and all 4 of them were having more sex with young beautiful women than should be humanly possible. Plus I'm listening to my album 102 now Joni Mitchell's Blue - you won't hear me complaining this is Pussy Pop (can't think of a word for the vulva that rhyms with rock, or actually folk. I would say it's 'joke folk' but for folk it's not bad . . . I digress.) My point is 49% of the population has a cock and they need something to rock to; so fuck off militant feminists. Other criticism Do they sing about sodomizing women? Maybe. Do they sing about sexual relations with minors? Probably not, this is extrapolation. They did just fine with of age teens/twenties but I doubt they checked a lot of IDs. Do they use the word baby waaaay too much? Well, OK I'll give you that one. At any rate just a classic - stole a lot from Chicago Blues but others would just say they were 'influenced' by the Blues. Considering it was recorded while touring one of the best piecework albums of all time.
Great exposure to Led Zeppelin.
fire fire fire standout tracks: the lemon song, heartbreaker
Robert Plant’s voice is infectious. Ive never been a huge fan but sitting down with this album it just his voice and John Bonham’s drums driving this whole shit. I mean that breakdown in Whole Lotta Love wtf. Ramble On was another standout track for me.
Great album, well produced - fills the room
Excellent. The one & only Led Zeppelin.
would certainly bump this with the boys in 'nam
This is the second zeppelin. I'd say this is less jazz like (except for that insane drum solo) and more focused on singular hits. This is not to say this was worse than the first zeppelin though, I think I like this more, it really hones in on their sound and I like it. 8.5/10
4/5
A banger one of my favorite zep albums. I love heartbreaker. I also love whole lotta love
I had high hopes for this album, considering it is on the top 20 albums on the whole list, but it really didn't strike me as anything amazing. The guitar playing is really great and the other instruments are perfect. The vocals can be fun sometimes, but when they all come together sometimes it feels off. Things feel out of place and there are some dull moments. Still, this album is really good and I would recommend it to people. I definitely wouldn't say it's anywhere near one of my favorites ever made.
Bit varied, whole lotta love is good, but it does go on. The latter half was a bit more approachable. But you can really see Zeppelin going somewhere here.
“And yet his torso is still suffused with brilliance from inside, like a lamp, in which his gaze, now turned to low, gleams in all its power. Otherwise the curved breast could not dazzle you so, nor could a smile run through the placid hips and thighs to that dark center where procreation flared.” Archaic Torso of Apollo, Rainer Maria Rilke Although Dionysian with groupies, Zeppelin are Apollonian in performance: logical, considered, muscular, spry. There is no drunkenness, no chaos, no possibility of the unexpected. Even the moments of free time feel like a gentleman’s agreement—improvised only within boundaries already tacitly agreed upon. Olympians know they need chance to win, but they never risk leaving anything in chance’s lap. If this sounds dismissive, it isn’t meant to be. The oiled gymnopaedist in his posing pouch is to be admired, not loved, and there is much to admire here. The writing and playing are exceptional. The sheer number and velocity of notes should be gratuitous, yet somehow every one lands as necessary and effortless. Except perhaps Living Loving Maid. And the drum solo in Moby Dick. And Bring It On Home. It is a shame that among these musical demigods, only Robert Plant must show his Achilles heel. The others communicate directly through their instruments; the singer must find words equal to his melodies. Apollo may be the god of poetry, but there is little poetry in Plant’s lyrics. The band has moved on from the merely salacious ribaldry of their debut, but even in a song like Thank You—something more than rock posturing—Plant allows himself no true vulnerability. The gods are vulnerable, yes, but their vulnerability is vanity. And Plant, at this stage anyway, will not risk even that. His bandmates, of course, are spared this problem. Their “poetry” is allowed to be about itself—self-contained, self-justifying, pure Apollo. Plant must name the thing the others only have to play. 3.5 The commonplace that 2 is ‘the heaviest Led Zeppelin album’ is a superficial account of ‘heaviness’. Yes there is plenty of guitar distortion here but really this is the lightest - the goofiest - of the early Led Zepp albums. While the others have a long, earnest, luxurious dark heart - Dazed and Confused, Since I’ve Been Loving You, Stairway - this album gives that slot to the Lemon Song. That this 6 minutes of goofing around a blues standard is absolutely mesmerising music (John Paul Jones’ exquisite bass playing I could have listened to another 6 minutes of) is beside the point. The only true attempt at straight-faced earnestness on this album is Thank You and, in my opinion, it falls strangely flat. There are other dips - Living Lovin Maid.. is disposable and Moby Dick is…well it’s a drum solo, which it seems unreasonable to begrudge Bonham at just a couple of minutes long but…it’s a drum solo - but these stumbles and stalls fit comfortably under the umbrella of easy-going goofballery provided by the Lemon Song and the gregarious tone of the other, wonderful landmarks on this album - Whole Lotta Love, What is…, Heartbreaker and Ramble On. No this isn’t ‘heavy’- this feels like a light, capricious album to me; somewhat thrown together, rather unfocused. Frequently terrific, in any case. 3.5/5
cool classic Album
8 - GOOD
Great album. I love the first track. All of the instruments are speaking, screaming loudly, wanting to be heard, and that they are! But they do it seamlessly, without running over one another, in beautiful *loud* harmony.
Not as good as IV but still enjoyed
Classic Zeppelin
Not their best album, but still great.
classic rock, classic zeppelin. Heard this all the time. I think it must have been played at most parties I went to back in the 70's and early 80's. Solid.
always nice
Love Zeppelin channeling the blues, such a great album.
Ah, the late 1960s, when you could sing about The Lord of the Rings and still be considered a dangerous rock 'n' roll sex god. Led Zeppelin are one of those bands where I only know the 'hits' (in inverted commas because they didn't release singles in Britain), but this made me think I should have been checking out their albums before now. I enjoyed it a lot.
I dont get why some people dislike this one, its like a top 3 Zeppelin album at least
Uhmm, I don't know. I mean the guitar riffs are great, but the album just feels all over the place. Would not recommend it if it's your first time listening to this band. Edit: Discard what I’ve said above. I love this album! Favorite tracks: Heartbreaker, Living Loving Maid (She's Just a Woman)
Pretty good
Probably my least favorite genre, I can respect it but not a fan
My fave Zeppelin album then, I find it stands up now.
yup
Enjoyed this album a lot more than the 1st zeppelin I was shown.
Not as good as four, but on a level with three. On some days as good as one. Fav: Bring it on home
Classic
You can clearly hear their inspirations throughout the album. They must listened to a lot of Greta van Fleet. I don’t know old rock well but Zeppelin always stood out as my favorite. Per individual song most of the pick-ups were fun. Thought we’d have a slow song then it escalates halfway through. Slightly exhausting/repetitive to do that multiple separate times.
To be transparent I did not have a chance intently listen to this album but everything I did I enjoyed. I see the hype it gets for sure.
I am throwing my hat into the reviewing ring! This is obviously a classic album. Everyone and their mother and their grandmother knows and their father and their grandfather knows Whole Lotta Love, Heartbreaker, and Ramble On. I'm not sure if I've ever listened to this album in it's entirety, but I enjoyed this listen. I think that Robert Plant's voice is so one of a kind, I feel it's like if Brian Johnson was less of an assault on the senses. So many classic guitar riffs from this album alone, it's historical impact can't be overlooked. That being said, it's not a transformative album that makes me rethink what music is by any means. It's gonna be a solid 4 from me.
Didn’t need to listen to this album to remind myself of the songs, but listened nonetheless as it is a certified classic. Biased as it is yet another album/artist that I grew up on, but I think most can understand the value of this one.
Jimmy Page on "Heartbreaker" is right up there with Hendrix. Ramble On is a classic The whole album has a timeless sound to it. Objectively better than Electric Ladyland.
Some definite classics on here. Always have liked any zeppelin and it doesn’t stop here. Groovy riffs and weird sections
Proper rock and an album deserving of its place within the top 1000
- led zeppelin on cool - jotkin biisit kuulostaa edelleen uraauurtavilta, jotkin taas vähän köpösiltä (rumpusoolobiisi aika kökkö tästä ajasta katsottuna) - monesti toivon että olisin ollut nuori kun tämän kaltaiset bändit oli huipulla, olis ollu nättiä nähdä nää silloin livenä - iha hyvä kuuntelisin uudestaan
Really enjoyed this one. Already knew a few of the songs, but nice to hear the ones I didn’t know. Loved the guitar, liked that the vocals varied and were sometimes softer then got more intense. Very fun (although nonsensical)LotR reference. Fav song: Ramble On Least fav: Moby Dick
Good rock album overall I’d say. Liked the guitar and the vocals too. Lemon song just a bit too weird for me. Specific rating - 4.1 Fav song - living loving maid Least fav- the lemon song
They want to seem like cool rock stars but the nerds can't help but reference lord of the rings. Good song, good album. Favourite song: Ramble On Least: Moby Dick
Apart from Whole Lotta Love, I didn’t know any from this album, it took me a couple of listens today to properly engage and I was toying between 3 and 4 stars. I know they are a very influential band and whilst I have landed on the side of being more generous with my rating, I’m not sure I enjoyed it as much as I expected to. Nonetheless, this is still very good and I look forward to exploring their other albums when they are served up to me.
Slightly underwhelming to be honest bass drums guitar vocals all good but not reaching the heights I remember
I didn’t know this is the album ramble on is from. It was pretty good.
the most “fine” songs out of their first five - I couldn’t give a shit about what is and what should never be, man. But, the hits are here and they hit. Bring it on home absolutely slept on
I've said it before and I'll say it again, JPJ owns this record. Similar to LZIV, the opener is the worst song on the album (complimentary). Just realized I'm completely ripping off Ramble On in the Jeffs.
Never gets old
Smoking the shittiest weed of all time in some half finished basement while listening to the record must have been mind blowing in 1969
🖖🏼
104/1001 :: Led Zeppelin - Led Zeppelin II Heard before? ✅ Would I revisit? ✅ Rating: 7 Listen before you die: Yes Fav Songs: The Lemon Song, What Is and What Should Never Be, Ramble On Bottom line is they’re one of the most played groups in history. That’s because, It’s a group full of all stars and their initial 6 album run is pretty flawless. Now that I’ve listened to this album a gazillion times there are a couple of skips (Living Loving Maid) but frankly should still be considered on of the best rock n roll records ever made.
I don't care what anybody says, Moby Dick is the best track from this album.
Quite cool album, I guess I understand what they say when talking about the blue riffs, maybe a bit too instrumental for me but it grew on me. Favs: "Thank you" is a very good emotional way to put a blues/rock song. "Whole lot of love" makes me wanna be in a concert. "Ramble on" has a vibe of semivagabundismo on it, might be my fav one
Solid classic rock album. Hard to say anything that hasn’t already been said. 4/5
What Is and What Should Never Be is the highlight.
A brilliant album, featuring fun riffs that highlight their greatness. An undeniable classic, but not to their heights of I and IV, but still brilliant.
While I understand the impact it had when released, Listening it for the first time in 2025 makes no value added. Still quite nice album.
-probably the most interesting Led Zeppelin album i’ve heard so far and the current contender for my favorite -i absolutely love the last two songs, Moby Dick is different from anything i’ve heard from this band so far. it’s just great. would love to do a Led Zeppelin discog dive someday -Favorites: Whole Lotta Love, Heartbreaker, Moby Dick, and Bring It on Home
Learned to play bass with this album, honestly great instrumentals but the drums are a constant highlight. Maybe it’s because I knew it note for note already, but there was no wow factor to the songs. That being said, great rock album with a lot of musical variety!
classic rock
Maybe even preferred it to IV. The song thank you reminded me of Nikki Kings. That one true love
Schon gut, aber keine 5 Sterne für mich
Great album. I just wish they had given Willie Dixon and Howlin' Wolf credit on the original 1969 release.
Despite the rampant plagiarism, Led Zeppelin were massively influential. After the first album, I think this album is more of the same though perhaps a bit heavier.
Excelente.
Baaaanger!
Beetje Led Zeppelin gaat er altijd in
Musically fab. Loved to revisit them, it's been a minute. The audio bouncing around my headphones was a bit unnerving (got a little sound dizzy). Harder rock than my usual listening, but it is so well written and played. Listened before? N Saved to library? N Favorite track(s): Whole Lotta Love, What Is and What Should Never Be, Thank You, Heartbreaker, Ramble On ⭐⭐⭐⭐: Liked it. Saved some tracks
Just a good solid rock album. Whole Lotta Love is easily one of the best opening tracks of all time.
I still love this album. It has its flaws. The time signature changes and the many shifts in tone make this album, and most others by this group, difficult to dance to. I'm almost always not stoned enough to appreciate it as pure art. Still, I'll give it a 4.
Classic rocking album
Some of these tunes are imprinted on my souls. Ramble On is a masterpiece. The non-radio hits were fun but fine.
Heard before. Not my favourite LZ album but a classic
Good stuff, dont get the hype but i enjoyed it.
Appreciate lots of people love the first two Zep albums but I genuinely think they got better as they went on (until Physical Graffiti). Still a great album but it’s never truly clicked for me or something I get the urge to return to. What Is and What Should Never Be and Ramble On are some of their best though.
Nice
H: solid album just not something I’d seek out. The solos during the songs were crazy 7/10 H fav: thank you Z: raw, unfiltered Zep. Leaves a bit of polish/production to be desired compared to their later works, but this one certainly holds its own. Plant’s vocals shine throughout and they hold space for Bonham and Page solos. You can tell they took influence from many genres— a melting pot of ideas that are in their early stages. 8/10 Z fav: Ramble On (so tough to pick a fave)
3.6 - Startet stark und endet fast genauso stark. Dazwischen ist aber leider etwas Leerlauf, sodass es "nur" ein sehr gutes Album ist. Highlights: Whole Lotta Love, Bring It on Home
Dobry, ale jedynka była lepsza
Whole lotta love jest overrated ale album dobry
Oh, I could feel every inch of his love.
Zep II is heavier than the first record. The album opens strong with "Whole Lotta Love." The blues influence is apparent in "What Is and What Should Never Be". "The Lemon Song" and "Thank You" move the album along, but are forgettable. "Whole Lotta Love", "Heartbreaker", and "Ramble On" are the hits and deserve to be, and have some of Jimmy Page's best guitar playing, but John Bonham's drumming on Moby Dick is also an impressive accomplishment. It really rocks. The band was reluctant to release singles, preferring the album to be a complete experience. U.S. label Atlantic Records did issue singles to promote the album: "Whole Lotta Love" and "Living Loving Maid" (She's Just a Woman). UK, no singles released.
This is a great album full of bangers. “Whole Lotta Love, What Is…,Heartbreaker, and Ramble On. “Moby Dick” is a sick drum showcase. The baddest track on here is “Livin Loving Maid” 1001 album worthy: yes 108/202
Fabulous album but much bluesy stuff which is still great but not as innovative or complex as their later works.
This is an undeniable classic. What struck me most were the powerful instrumentals, the riffs and drumming are simply explosive, but Robert Plant’s voice is also instantly recognizable and full of character. I really enjoyed the strong blues influence throughout the record, which gives it both rawness and groove. It’s easy to hear why this album became so influential for hard rock and beyond
Led Zeppelin II is a rock powerhouse, a record every music fan should hear no matter what genre they usually live in. “Whole Lotta Love,” “Heartbreaker,” and “Ramble On” are tracks that flip a switch in your brain and make you feel alive. The riffs are massive, the groove is undeniable, and the energy is untouchable. That said, I can’t give it a perfect score. Robert Plant’s voice is legendary and gives the band its edge, but stretched across a whole album it starts to grate. The highs are insane, but the experience as a front-to-back listen doesn’t fully land for me. 8.5/10.
What’s there to say? All roads lead to Zeppelin. Killer album that kicks the door open with “Whole Lotta Love” where Robert Plant lets you know of his desire to fuck you in the ass. Jimmy Page has been accused of lifting riffs off the blues pioneers before him but so what? Those old Delta fellas didn’t think to crank them through high voltage tube amps. John Bonham is your favorite drummer’s favorite drummer and he showcases why in “Moby Dick”. I dig it. All of it. Listened to it twice. Great album.
One of the albums I don't actually enjoy listening to front to back. There are some fun tracks on here (Ramble On is the high point), but ultimately it's no Houses of the Holy or IV. Still, it's clear what an influence this sound had on the rock genre for decades.
Led Zeppelin was a unit. They sound extremely tight on this album, as if they were all made to play with each other. The songs on the album are all great, especially on side 2. What’s insane to me is that this isn’t even their best album, at least in my opinion. I hadn’t listened to the album in a bit, and had forgotten how beautiful a song Thank You is, it’s one of my favorites now. I could be mistaken, but I believe that Ramble On includes Zeppelin’s first Lord of the Rings references, with it mentioning Mordor and Gollum. 4/5
65/1001 Led Zeppelin - Led Zeppelin II Heard before? ✅ Revisit? ✅ I have a real soft spot for this album, as it was the first Zep album I bought. It has some monster hits with some great album tracks - my favourite possibly being Heartbreaker. Not gonna lie, could do without the drum wankery from Moby Dick
(4) yes
Is there a bad track on this album?
Viel los, viel spaß. Bin bei psychedelischem eh dabei.
Pure power & ecstasy.
Great rock album, includes the infamous "Ramble On" and "Whole Lotta Love", which I thoroughly enjoy
Loud, screeching rock and roll. One of the Zeppelin records, they really find their sound here. It’s before they get to into wizards and flutes, lots of “baby”, guitar swinging, and good stuff.
This is Led Zeppelin at their heaviest, evolved from a blues-ier debut and with less folk numbers than their subsequent output. This is the Zeppelin people came to know, even before [IV], their status as hard rocking, stadium-filling, all-encompassing musical gods was more than fleshed out even on their second release, but a year after formation. There’s timeless riffs, heartfelt love songs, far less heartfelt love songs, and otherworldly blues-infused crescendos of all instruments working in tandem. This rears its head best at the shift of Bring It On Home, but emerges first on my personal favourite track (despite playing Whole Lotta Love to death both at request of my father when I was about 3 and when I first got Spotify when I was about 8), What Is and What Should Never Be. It’s not Zeppelin’s height, but if this was made by 99% of other rock bands, it’d outshine everything else, as whilst formulaic in places, Zeppelin II is uniquely incredible.
This challenge has finally got me into Led Zeppelin—something I’ve struggled with for over 30 years. Led Zeppelin II is another excellent album that’s helped change that. Going in, the only track I really knew was Whole Lotta Love—a brilliant song—but what surprised me was how it sits among a whole album of brilliant songs. It’s a consistently strong listen. One thing I’ve really grown to appreciate is Jimmy Page’s guitar work. His riffs are outstanding, and he has such a unique style and sound. Add in the powerful bass and drums, and you’ve got a band firing on all cylinders. Favourite track: Whole Lotta Love Least favourite track: Honestly, every song here is worth a listen. Album artwork: A great, distinctive cover.
Really good rock album. My favorite song is Ramble On
blues rock is a genre that led zeppelin has pulled off quite well! pretty good!
love a bit of classic rock
Really good, solid album. It's not their best but it's pretty damn good.
Greatest rock band of all time. Much heavier sound compared to the first album which was more bluesy. Heartbreaker is one of the greatest riffs in rock. Maybe only bettered by led zeppelin 4, this is a great album. But a bit short at only 9 tracks.
I lived it but not really my vibe these days
I’m learning from this series that I love LZ
Lots of good songs on here--some would say this is Led Zeppelin at its best. However, I still think the Heartbreaker solo is one of the worst solos I've heard on a rock album. He sounds like he's making it up on the spot and none of it comes together in any meaningful way. And people talk about it like it's one of *the* great solos, and it just sucks. Favorite tracks: Whole Lotta Love, Thank You, Ramble On
This is the second Led Zeppelin album that has come up for me so far, and I have found that I enjoy their laid-back songs much more than the wild up-tempo ones. The grooves on tracks like "Lemon Song" and "Moby Dick" are cool, but I don't think they hold up to the relaxed moments on the album. The delicate acoustic guitar and organ textures on "Thank You" was one of my favorite parts, and I also liked the beginning of "Ramble On" and most of "Bring It On Home."
Was wondering when i was going to get a zep album Have a weak spot for them, as they marked the very beginning of my music journey. First band i listened to and really "got" music with.
Strong follow up. Some songs when not big singles feel a bit indulgent with drawn out endings, but for others feels right. Surprising to hear them sound at times similar to other bands of the time, considering the large output that is distinctly their sound.
Very high 4 Great, but not as good as LZ1. Incredible musicianship. Long solos can be taken as indulgent, but the quality is so high that I just leaned into it. Liked the bluesy bits, the psychedelic bits and the hard rock bits. Very listenable.
LZ1 I preferred. Only because of a couple of tracks that sound like classic rock as opposed to Zepplin sound. This is being picky though. When they combine acoustic in the mix like Ramble On is when they are at their best for me. Great band 4/5
All good
Lots of classic songs! I enjoyed almost all.
Sure, the album's a classic. But still, it didn't really do it for me. Musically, it's fantastic. But the lyrics...
--Whole Lotta Love...pure sex --What is and What Should Never Be...love that slide guitar --Lemon Song...Page and Plant as flashy as ever, but JPJ is the star of this one --Thank You...can a song be both interesting and boring at the same time? --Heartbreaker...you can hear the "heavy" here. solid sludge --Living Loving Maid...funky --Ramble On...this guy Tolkiens --Moby Dick...I'm told this is an amazing drum solo. shrug --Bring it on Home...feels like two different song ideas jammed together
Classic Led Zeppelin. Not my fav of theirs but good. I do love their overall sound.
Good as it was in high school. Plant and Page are probably praying the outrage archeologists have retired by the time they pass.
Favorite Track: Ramble On
Starts off a little crazy but love the 2nd track and 4th.
Has some crackers on, obvious ones being Whole Lotta Love, Ramble On and most of Heartbreaker (guitar break is shite), there is plenty of waste like Living Loving Maid, Moby Dick and Bring It On Home. The Lemon Song has some incredible bass playing but Plant's performance is obnoxious as shit, which is a bit of a theme of the album really. I do think I'll go 4 because the good stuff is very, very good and the musicianship is generally excellent.
Just good old straight fashioned rock n’ roll. I’m not a major Led Zep fan by any means, but I imagine hearing this in 1969 would have blown my mind.
Not my favourite Zep but still some solid riffs
I actually liked this one more than zeppelin 4 can’t lie. It was a bit more bluesy, and more interesting
From the first note, Whole Lotta Love. Both vocal and musical arrangement will survive Rock & Roll history. A great album.
Top quality
When I was younger, I didn’t understand the hype around Led Zeppelin. Now that I’m older and have a broader taste in music, I absolutely love Led Zeppelin. Their catalog of hits is incredible and that is showcased on all of their albums. Led Zeppelin II is an instant classic.
what are the chances of two led zeppelin albums in a row?
Continue to be surprised how much I'm enjoying the Zeppelin albums
a surprisingly timeless classic!
- II or IV does it really matter...uh-huhhhm?
as i might've previously mentioned in another review, i kinda don't like Led Zeppelin as much after learning that they likely plagiarized some of their songs. regardless, for the sake of not letting my bias affect how i listen, i'll try to rate these tracks as if i never knew that fact Whole Lotta Love - 5/5 What Is and What Should Never Be - 5/5 The Lemon Song - 4/5 Thank You - 3/5 Heartbreaker - 5/5 Living Loving Maid (She's Just a Woman) - 4/5 Ramble On - 4/5 Moby Dick - 3/5 Bring It On Home - 3/5 Average score: 4/5
8.5/10 Favourite: Whole Lotta Love Least Favourite: Thank You
I’ve heard this record so many times. It’s foundational. I’m still impressed with how good it sounds. This one suffers a bit from too much exposure. It’s become a little stale. Ramble on is possibly my favourite. I can’t help to giggle about the Tolkien lyrics.
Encore du bon blues rock. Je pense que j’ai mieux aimé IV. Thank you était excellente
fantastic cuts.
Their second album. Rock. The first few notes of the album hit hard as we start off with Whole Lotta' Love. A classic Rock track ! Very sexual 'Cock Rock' album. Big vocals, big guitars and big drums. Unapologetically in your face. One line from Ramble On says - 'Twas in the darkest depths of Mordor, I met a girl so fair but Gollum and the evil one crept up and slipped away with her.' The album is pure overblown, indulgent Rock and it's good. Ha !
I think this might be slightly better than the first one, maybe not the third though, they are quite interchangeable though I have to say, great guitar from jimmy page, acoustic and electric, nice variation in songs, I like how they have an acoustic guitar, softer focussed song like tangerine on led zeppelin 3. Favourites: most of it to be honest although I wasn’t a fan of bring it on home (too weird) or the lemon song (too long for what it was), some generic rock lyrics aswell but that’s to be expected. Overall, 8/10.
4/5 best led Zeppelin album imo
IMO the more consistent album than LZIV. This song has more highs and less lows. I still think that the bass and guitar are by far the best parts of this band though.
The first riff hooks me still after all these years! I’m not that into every track, but I’ve been a fan of this album since it was released.
Some of the finest rock of the 60s. Every musician does great work and the whole album flows very well. 4.5/5.
Rocks
I don’t like “Whole Lotta Lovin”. There. I said it. The rest of the album was pretty rad.
Classic rock at its finest tbh
Really really good, lovely sound. 4 stars
What an absolute banger, front to back! Minus .5 stars for the extended drum (bongo?) solo in Moby Dick, but otherwise... this rocked! 4.5
Very good album
Another great album from Led Zep. Whole Lotta Love and Ramble On being the standouts. 4/5.
Only reason it aint a 5 is relistenability, but i luuv this album. So technically amazing. Joey diaz had a point.
Kannte vorher nur wenige Lieder von Led Zeppelin aber die mag ich gerne. Manchmal fand ich die langen Gitarreneinlagen ein bisschen anstrengend, aber ansonsten für meinen Geschmack ein sehr gutes Album! Favs: What Is and What Should Never Be Living Loving Maid
B+ Whole Lotta Love 4 What Is And What Should Never Be 5 The Lemon Song 4 Thank You 4 Heartbreaker 3 Livin' Lovin' Maid (She's Just A Woman) 3 Ramble On 4 Moby Dick 3 Bring It On Home 3 Great album, classic. Silver Linings Playbook immortalized What Is And What Should Never Be for me.
Quality varied rock n roll.
87% Best: Whole Lotta Love; The Lemon Song; Heartbreaker; Living Loving Maid (She's Just a Woman); Ramble On Must-Hear? Sure
Classic.
Led Zeppelin – Led Zeppelin II (1969) Score: 7.5/10 Favorite Track: “Bring It On Home” This is one of those albums where the whole feels bigger than the individual tracks. There are some amazing moments scattered throughout, but a lot of the songs have highs and lows within them. One section will blow me away, and then the next feels like it loses steam. That up-and-down flow made it hard for me to fully lock in with some of the tracks. “Bring It On Home” is the clear standout. That one feels complete all the way through, no wasted space, just a great track front to back. I tend to love songs that stay consistent and deliver the full experience from start to finish, and most of the album wavers in that respect. Still, when it hits, it really hits. Definitely a solid listen overall.
None of the songs stood out to me in particular but I thought they were all pretty enjoyable to listen to
Great great great. Building up for IV. 4.5
WTF else can I writer about this second in the long list of Zepp masterpieces?? Ummmm Led Zeppelin II - Heard of it? II continues and just levels up the diversity of songs that they spin. More driving hard rockers, more beautiful, complex acoustic journeys, road songs, Hobbit references, strings, screaming blues jams, crushing drum solos - complete masters of all genres. At 42 minutes long, it's perfect, I needed a rest after that run of absolute bangers - personally, Ramble On and What is and What Should Never Be always float to the top of my favorite Zepp songs, but the entire album is at this point - I'll say it again - iconic.
This was actually my first time listening to a Led Zeppelin album front to back, which is surprising given my absolute adoration for Coheed and Cambria. This was an excellent listen, and again so fun to hear how their music has influenced artists I love today.
I've always found this one a nicely varied, slightly meandering mess. A great album but I'm stunned it's in the top 20.
A classic of the rock genre, fast paced, powerful, but unique from others in it's era. Almost a no skip album, quality throughout
Far from my favourite Led Zeppelin album but still so good. Has made go back to the BBC Sessions album, the version of Thank You on it sublime
Some great songs but a few that are just 'good'. Probably hold them to as higher standard than other bands...
me he guardado una cancion y soprendentemente me ha gustado, tenia 0 expectativas la vd
A few bangers, quite bluesy sounds
3,5/5
Let's Luftschiff BoyZHHH!
The first track, "Whole Lotta Love," is obviously a radio classic I've heard a number of times. The guitar melody is thrilling, the vocals are great, but the drum break about a third of the way through the song is what really sets this song apart and a great example of what's makes Zeppelin who they are Another great guitar riff in Lemon Song, accompanied by a bass strumming just underneath that keeps the melody flowing while cymbals clash Ramble On represents another radio classic and example of what makes Zeppelin great, with it's rhythmic percussion and easy vocals Finishing with the instrumental Moby Dick followed by the bluesy harmonica of Bring it Home, II ends on a high note that makes me want to listen to more Zeppelin
I just pretty generally enjoy listening to Led Zeppelin. Exceptional classic rock, so much talent and the ability to switch between that carnal sound and something soft.
I forgot how good the deep cuts from this record are. Whole Lotta Love, the big hit, is really the worst song on the album, but it’s still decent.
4.2
Whole lotta bangers
Excellent album, love all of their work 4/5
I've always been a sucker for Zeppelin. It would get 5 stars, but I understand that if you haven't cultivated the taste for it, you might find Robert Plant's voice a bit whiny. This is when mainstream rock got a lot more aggressive. Obviously, the bigger hits are going to be more accessible, so The Lemon Song might be harder to get into.
After giving short shrift all those years ago to Zeppelin, I came to realize what a good band they were…and this album was a big part of my appreciation.
ja led zeppelin is bangin
Some bangers on this one
82/100. Another very good album. Is it their best? That’s debatable. What stands out is the seamless fusion of rock and blues—a style this band has truly perfected.
Yep
Such a strong album. I spotify-liked 3 of them: "What is and what should never be", "Living Loving Maid", "Ramble On". But really I like the whole album. This is a high 4 for me, borderline 5.
This list is silly with the number of 60s & 70s British bands thinking they discovered the Blues. But, I feel like Zepplin holds up better than the majority of them. I think their interest in genuinely rocking the fuck out (which borders on metal at times) and their inclusion of Tolkien-meets-Renn Faire motifs makes them feel like they are doing something more additive and not just derivative like many of the other bands.
Good! But I don't know, it still feels kind of old-timey.
Already have on CD. I hate it when Gollum steals my GF 😂
Amazing tracks that display why Zeppelin has so much recognition. On the other side, though, the songs are overly sexualized in such a gross way. 8/10
As of now it’s amazing I love whole lotta love a lot. Good album I really enjoyed listening
Легендарные ребята для рока. Хороши, но не моё.
Glemte litt å følga med, men da skal få pluss for theremin
Groovy
Led Zep, fantastic!!!
Classic
gammel kending
A strong record full of the Zeppelin swagger. A couple of albums later, they would become more complacent with their success, but here they are still hungry and intense. All four band members show their chops, along with their powerhouse chemistry as a group. No band rocked harder than these guys.
7/10
Liking the first track, makes me want to drive fast down the desert road
Top 3 Songs: 1 - What Is and What Should Never Be (2) 2 - Ramble On (7) 3 - Whole Lotta Love (1)
This is the best led zeppelin album in my opinion. I know it’s open for interpretation as everyone I know has varying opinions
I like this album a lot more than Led Zep 1. It's tighter, less of the long blues songs, and just overall a good album. Top tracks: Whole Lotta Love What Is and What Should Never Be Heartbreaker Ramble On
I had a goofy fun time making breakfast to this. I knew most of the songs and certainly rolled my eyes at some parts but there's just something about that ~NYEEEEeeeeeer~ guitar part in Whole Lotta Love that is too iconic to ignore.
Do some of the middle tracks sounds extremely similar? Kind of. Do I mind? Not particularly. I like bluesy rock. And it starts and ends on extremely strong tracks.
Ramble On is such a good song it makes me rank the whole thing highly. It’s good throughout, through. Rockstars have really stopped making LOTR references.
Exceptional album but not my favorite Led Zeppelin album so to reflect that it gets 4 stars. Standouts are "Whole Lotta Love", "Heartbreaker" and "Ramble On".
Heck yeah. I haven't ever given Zeppelin a chance outside of the classics (IV mainly), but man I LOVED this. Bumping it down a star because the end felt a little underwhelming, but this is getting me excited for the rest of the Zeppelin on this list.
Really incredible album that grabs your attention quickly and lets go of it almost just as quick given how short in duration it is. The musicianship and unique elements that Zeppelin carry with them is not to be mistaken by anything else. This is an inspiration for rock and roll.
The songs vibe with we, but some of them are too long (I dont like these stretching instrumental parts)
Love the bluesy classic rock vibe. Didn't like certain parts where the tempo would change but overall a great album
No denying that Led Zepplin rips. Their rock infused blues sets the stage for most classic rock and certainly their continued airplay is a testament to their talent and ability to put it together. For that reason, though, I am a little over exposed to it all. Looking past that, I find strong compelling vocals, ripping guitar, powerful drums and bass. The lyrical content is lacking but that doesn’t matter much. The talent abounds.
Niin hyvää musiikkia. Ei täydellinen koska rumpusoolot ei levyille kuulu.
Great album.
Nice follow up to Zeppelin I - they begin to move form the blues and into heavy rock, but not there yet as they aren Zed LeP III.
I can't give this 3, even though I would probably land on 3.5. Love the mix, the band grooves really well together - especially drums and bass
God damn Jon Bonham can groove. only found 4 songs a little average but loved the energy of the rest. What can I say it really hit the right spot for me.
8/10 This album punches you in the face with 'Whole Lotta Love' and manages to live up to an opener of that quality. To be honest, despite having heard 'Whole Lotta Love' many, many times, I'd not quite appreciated just how good a song it is until blasting it at full blast for the umpteenth time while listening to this album for this review. There are parts of this album I'm not fond of - with more than fifty years of music evolution sometimes the chord progressions feel a little route one blues, and sometimes the guitar licks are less than inspiring, or there's the drum break in Moby Dick which is honestly just dull to listen to, but these moments are few and far between - hardly something to quibble about when dealing with an album that is otherwise entirely deserving of legendary status. For me, the best moments are the slightly less heavy - 'Thank You' and 'Ramble On' - but that might be in part a product of my musical preferences, which have kept me away from a deep dive into the Zeppelin for years and years despite being a lover of 'Stairway' (aka basic bitch). Best songs: Whole Lotta Love, Ramble On, Thank You Listens 7+
mto bom
Love it 4/5
listened on vinyl!
WHOLE LOTTA LOVE wn absoluteee banger, wie hets das im 69 geh?? und d bridge isch natürlich legendär S FILL what is... isch recht andersch und ruhiger heartbreaker isch soo typisch led zeppelin RAMBLE ON dügüdügüdügü moby dick (of mo pieper und bianca fame) findi sooo geil ja ich schrieb nödso vill will ich müed aber es isch soo guet D DRUMS ich weiss nanig öb guets 4i oder 5:(
Just gonna say this now. I don't think I'll give any Led Zeppelin album 5 stars. They have a lot of fantastic albums (this one included) but personally I'm not as into them as much as most people are. That being said its impossible to deny the greatness of Zeppelin II. There's a whole lot to love about this album and I could just keep rambling on about it but you already know how good it is. 🤡 Favorite track: Whole Lotta Love
Aside from The Lemon Song and Movy Dick, this album’s a monster that starts in sixth gear with Whole Lotta Love and keeps the pedal down. Honestly you could just make the whole record out of WLL and it would be four stars. But we get 3-4 other classic stompers as well. Just cut the drum solos.
8/10 Ramble on and Whole lotta love are generation songs
Good album, felt a little self indulgent at times with extended solos but overall it was entertaining and enjoyable. 7/10
An album of some the best songs out there and then some mediocre ones. Thanks for the rollercoaster ride, it was fun!
Really enjoyed this, have heard it a few times over the years. It's a crime that Moby Dick has the least listens on Spotify, that riff is killer.
