Reviews (page 9 of 14)
Probably my least favorite of their early albums but still very good. Favorites: Whole Lotta Love, Heartbreaker
This album sounds like it could be the soundtrack to a smoked out room full of hippies talking about the Kennedy Assassination and the moon landings; in the best possible way. Same time it’s been used in a million a film montages of people taking drugs in green rooms throughout the 60’s and 70’s. On the instrumentation you can feel a heavy Blues and early Rock n Roll influence. Jimmy Page’s unpredictable guitar work appears out of nowhere as if it’s a lightning bolt (he must be a fan of Jimi Hendrix). Robert Plant’s voice oozes sex appeal, never thought I’d say it but I’m a Led Zeppelin fan, I get it now. The more stripped back parts of the record, specifically on ‘Thank You’ shows the depth to the band’s sound, it’s not all guns blazing. The flanger vocal effect used throughout, but most prominently on ‘What Is and What Should Never Be’ is a nod to the psychedelic 60s; where as the album as a whole feels like it paved the way for the early 70s. Favourite Songs: ‘What Is and What Should Never Be’, ‘Thank You’, ‘Ramble On’ & ‘Whole Lotta Love’ I did not expect to like this so much. Thought it was going to be a non stop self indulgent cock rock album but I think I’m getting confused with Def Leppard.
There's no bad on this one, but also nothing that sent this one for me.
My least favorite out of the three on this list so far, a bit more filler than the III & IV, but still kicks ass. Best Song: Whole Lotta Love Rating: 7/10 (Solid) Stars: 4/5
Great album
great record by a legendary band. lots of cool instrument shit going on, don't know how often i will revisit (which will be a reoccuring theme as i make my way through this list)
still don't think it's the best Zeppelin album but solid listen. good feel for their overall sound.
I think this deserves a place on the list.
Immediately invoking memories of Top of the Pops, oh yeah, forgot this was a Zeppelin album for a minute. Much like their other albums, this is really good, but the difficulty on this 1001 list is that you unfairly start comparing it to their other albums (*cough* IV). I have a big soft spot for Ramble On though.
a surprisingly easy album to listen to. when it wrapped I was surprised and thought maybe Spotify had glitched
First metal album I've ever listened to in full and I think it's a genre I could get into. I don't usually like old types of media in music or film but a lot of these were enjoyable. I think I prefer music with lyrics which this album didn't have a lot of. Mostly instrumental which was also great but I'd've liked some more story. Perhaps I'm just not listening deeply enough.
Respect.
Those drums tho
My personal favorite Ledathon Zeppelinson album
Solid Zep. Probably my second favorite grind them. Some great and classic tunes on here.
Not Zeppelin's best album, but great nonetheless.
its a good album, it holds up quite well for how old it is it feels hard to rate it a 4/5 but its better than what i currently rated at 3/5 i think
Very solid rock album that did stand out a level above the other ones. But at the same time not too many mindblowing moments
Brilliant album, solid all round, and what a tune "Whole Lotta Love" is. Would be giving an easy 5 star, but for me there's only one outstanding song. And that's not enough for a 5 star I'm afraid. 4.3
Classic Zeppelin, but probably the weakest of their early albums. Still has some absolutely heaters...Ramble On is a personal fav. 4.5/5
oh yeah led zep. 4/5
This albums was short and great. Although the sounds were very cohesive over the whole album, the energy and the complexity made it a fun listening experience. I was a little shocked when it ended however and would have liked more.
Some classics
Not much to say, just really good.
No private session used for Spotify. When I was a young lad laying in bed, listening to my clock radio the song "Whole Lotta Love" would come on and that interlude would terrify me. I get it now, Plant is simulating an orgasm, why did Plant's orgasm's scare me?
Some of the most kickass blues swagger and riffage imaginable. Only marginally marred by the odd bit of caterwauling. Maybe led zep's best record?
Lots of great riffs and cool melodies. This album had a welcome consistency.
Quite nice, feels like confidently walking down an empty street That constant left-right-panning on one song gave me a headache though...
Classical record, but it lacks a couple of Top 10 Hits.
You need cooling baby I’m Not fooooling
Great album. Not as great as Led Zeppelin IV
Hard to listen to these songs with new ears since these songs seem to be omnipresent in my culture. One thing that stood out to me on this listen through was how bluesy they are and how steady and tasteful the drums are. The bass is always stands out when I listen to Zeppelin and Ramble On would be a mediocre song without the musicality of the bass in that song. 4.5/5
a defining album of hard rock. Plant's wailing vocals, Page's searing riffs, and of course Bonham's explosive drumming come together to blend folk, blues, and rock effortlessly. Not much more I can say that hasn't already been said.
Great: Whole Lotta Love, Heartbreaker, Ramble On (not a lot of bands could pull off this many sexual innuendoes and a gollum reference on one album) Good: The Lemon Song, Moby Dick (an all-time “oh yeah, *this* riff” song), Thank You, Bring it on Home (another one of those riff songs) Meh: What is…, LLM
Love the production, the warm tape saturation on the drums and the overall vibe of the album. Hard rocking but not taking it too seriously, lots of psych influence in the big breaks and solos. Good stuff listen more
It's not my favourite of theirs, but still a rock classic. Full of solid tracks, maybe with the exception of Moby Dick which feels like an unfinished jamming session. Best track: Whole lotta love Other highlights: Heartbreaker, Ramble on, What is and what should never be 4 stars
This is the 5th Zeppelin album I've gotten. I'm blown away every time at how good these albums are. The fact that a couple of guys can play this in real life is wild. Like how did they think this stuff up. It's like they tapped into something that hadn't existed before. Great if you listen on your best headphones
The first LedZep record I'm encountering as part of this project. As good a reason as and to give it a re-listen, I guess. These guys were maybe the most important band to me during my formative years. Might be an unpopular opinion, but I consider this to be the most overrated of their classic albums. Still, can't give it any less than four stars, even though this might actually be more like a very strong 3.5.
Classic rock album opening with an absolute banger
Swenkaa
Greatest sequel of all time, just like Godfather 2, Empire Strikes Back, and Home Alone 2. Favourite Songs: Whole Lotta Love, What Is and What Should Never Be, Heartbreaker, Ramble On, Moby Dick. Least Favourite Songs: Thank You, Bring It On Home.
There are much bigger Zeppelin fans than myself, though I really like them when I do listen to them It's hardly an original point, but Led Zeppelin really stood out because every member was so good at their respective role. I especially love John Paul Jones' prominent and chunky basslines, he defied the standard role of following the guitar and made himself known on every tune There's more diversity in the songwriting than the debut (plagariased from a wider variety of artists maybe, I'm not sure) and the dynamics are perfect, switching from the raucous Whole Lotta Love to the more downtempo and subtle What Is And Should Never Be. Thank You is a nice, sentimental track and Ramble On introduces some of their folkier side prior to III I'm not crazy about The Lemon Song, it's mostly a pretty straightforward blues tune that just dodders about (besides the killer solo). Not a bad song, but not a highlight. Moby Dick is cool in the context of the album, it provides something different for a change of pace, but I'd never listen to it in isolation. A bit like VH's Eruption A really strong album overall 4.5 Highlights: Whole Lotta Love, Thank You, Ramble On, Heartbreaker
I enjoyed this album—it was fun. It felt like listening to a group of friends having a great time in their garage, making clean, well-crafted songs. Everyone seemed free to experiment while simultaneously being respectful of each other’s contributions. 8 out of 10.
Honestly? At this point, Led Zeppelin might as well be the cue for me to give it an instant four. It's all good rock, and I thoroughly enjoyed it, but there's a part of me that wonders I just like it because it has this legendary status. It's a band of mythical proportions.
After listening to III and IV, this one seems to be my favorite so far. A good heavy rendition of blues, filled with the cliches but played so straight it's good. It usurps the source and becomes the new origin. Some of these lyrics are a bit over the top with the leg juices though.
Dang! Great stuff
Always loved this one. Very cohesive as a whole 4/5
March 4th, 2025 11:06PM
Not as good as Joni Mitchell. 5 on another day
Led Zeppelin - Led Zeppelin II I already expected this album to sound well, and it did not disappoint, coming from none other than Led Zeppelin themselves. Compared to the third one (that I've listened thus far), this is more aggressive, and far more punched with riffs that make the album have a soul. The fact this was made before the 70's is impressive, because this sounds like something that was truly ahead of their time, and it just so happened to be made by one of the greats to ever do it. Overall, this is really great! 1.- Whole Lotta Love = 9/10 2.- What Is and What Should Never Be = 8/10 3.- The Lemon Song = 9/10 4.- Thank You = 8/10 5.- Heartbreaker = 10/10 6.- Living Loving Maid (She's Just a Woman) = 8/10 7.- Ramble On = 8/10 8.- Moby Dick = 7/10 9.- Bring It on Home = 9/10 FINAL SCORE: 8.4/10
I thought the guitar and the drums were sick but I’m not the biggest fan of Steven Tyler’s voice. Songs were overall good but not my favorite rock album of all time by any means
It's a classic, no doubt. Would give it 4.5 if i could
I definitely prefer I and IV, but still a really solid and classic rock record
Classic rock album
hmm. I think I enjoyed this the same amount as led zeppelin III, maybe a tiny little bit more (although maybe I need to re-listen, as it was at the very start of this oddyssey. Pretty much all the same positives and negatives as with that album. I think houses of the holy is better than this. Favourite songs: whole lotta love, what is and what never should be, thank you, heartbreaker, moby dick, bring it on home (without the weird bit at the start/end). Overall around 7/10
Early Zep is one of those bands you can tell is bursting at the seams with creative energy and talent. This is an all time great rock album, even if I prefer the sound of their more experimental material.
decent, some quality songs
Didn't start off very strong for me but it just builds and builds. There is a reason some of these songs are classic.
Perhaps because every song is so popular and overplayed after 50 years this just doesn't feel as impactful to me.
Not fair, I had IV 5 days ago and going back in time only makes it look weak by comparison, don't get me wrong, on a regular day this would be stellar but... But we got "Whole Lotta Love", "Moby Dick" and "Ramble On" here. so that's Robert Plant sex noises, John Bonham's drums, and dirty rock and roll covered top to bottom.
Great classics
It feels less polished than later work, rougher, like a live recording. It is far from a perfect album. An overlong drum solo, the production sounds fuzzy. But some of these songs are what I think of when LZ comes up. some of these songs are favorites, and some could be. Not a great album, but very good. 4/5
an undoubtedly good listen but nothing really stood out (save for Bonham in Moby Dick)
So far I have really enjoyed both led Zeppelin and led Zeppelin 2. Good classic rock music is what I'd call it 3.5-4 stars
too bold to hardrock
Great Zeppelin with classic Moby Dick
liked it a bit more than when I first listened to it. still does not fully click for me. many banger riffs, but the more blues oriented tracks are kind of middling. not a massive fan of plant's vocals/songwriting.
Great album
a good one definitely, but not ideal rock album for me
Strong 4.5 for me. Enjoyed this so much more than the first time 2+ years ago. So much character
Really liked this 8/10
This is a very good Zeppelin project with some hits but a really consistent sound. This album feels more blues and Rhythm guitar than others but maybe that's just me. Anyways 'Whole Lotta Love' is the best song and the rest of the album doesn't necessarily go downhill but nothing exceeds it. This album proves that Zep 1 wasn't a fluke and it still holds up but my expectations are high and I don't want to give every Zepelin album a 5 so this is lower on the list.
Maybe not the best Zep album but still a good one. There're only a few stinker 12 bar blues songs on here (The Lemon Song, Livin Lovin Maid, Bring it on home) and the rest go from "nobody else could really write this" to "yeah pretty great". That's what always gets me about Zep in general; they have this incredible songwriting talent and they always seem to jam filler in to their albums anyway. In any case, this is one of my favorite Bonham performances otu of all of them, and not just because of the solo in Moby Dick. The triple bass drum hit in Ramble On is permanently stuck in my head; it's a great shuffle move jammed in to a rock song that nobody else was trying to do quite as hard. Him and John Paul Jones carry the better parts of this album - not to say that Page doesn't have his guitar moments because the riffs Whole Lotta Love, Ramble On and Heartbreaker are classics, but they're the cherry on top for me. As usual Robert Plant is there, but I never really thought of him as a great singer (and he is a lyricist of...well, his time). In any case there are too many real classics on here for me to give it less than 4 and I like nearly all of it anyway, even the less inventive tunes.
They are great (although dated) masters of rock. They set the bar for all the acts that would follow and imitate. There's some powerhouse tracks on here that I lack the musical knowledge to talk about in terms of composition. Everything comes together to make something that at the time was likely revolutionary and, in present time, revered.
Much better than the first
What an opening riff!
Ah, Led Zeppelin. Great blues rock. I particularly enjoyed Moby Dick, because I've learned how to play the main riff (a sort of 12 bar blues shuffle) with my guitar teacher and it's a fun way to warm up before practising.
shoutout to hobbits gotta be one of my favourite genders fr Favourite Tracks: Thank You Least Fav Tracks: Living Loving Maid
I was a massive Led Zeppelin fan from ages 8-13, but haven’t really listened to them much in many years. When it comes to classic hard rock, they just aren’t a band I reach for. These days, I’d rather listen to Deep Purple or some record I haven’t heard before. I dunno, I got older and started to hate a lot of aspects of this band. However, I can still tell you pretty much everything about John Bonham’s drums, tuning style, and the Glen Johns drum recording method. I did a rendition of Moby Dick for the school talent show in 4th grade. I downloaded a FLAC rip of a 2008 SHM-CD for this one and this is probably the highest quality version of this record I’ve ever heard. Very douchey record and Robert Plant’s lyrics fucking suck, but the tones on the record are so fucking good. I love the mix so much, the guitar tones, the plate reverb, the bass tones, the snare drum — it rocks. When I think of rock drums, I think of John Bonham. I think I’ve decided that I hate Robert Plant. It’s an excellent record, arranged well, etc. Doesn’t hit the same at 30 as it does at 13, but songs off of this one were stuck in my head all day the day after I listened. Heartbreaker rips. I think I have to give it a 4. Fuck it.
Great album which deserves a listen. Their sound is bluesy and grungy sounding. There’s a subtle dryness to the production which emphasizes the playing.
Pretty good. Have to listen to again
It is not my favourite!
Solid overall, few weak links. Good but like... is it perfect? Nah
Its the best zep album I've heard I reckon.
The best so far
Good album.
Zeppelin exploring and moving outwards - Ramble On is the standout, adding the magic of roll to the rock 4 stars
Lyrics: 4/5 Music: 4/5 Production: 4/5 Cohesiveness: 4/5 Overall: 4/5 Stand out songs: Whole lotta love Ramble on
Great album. JPJ’s bass playing on this album is epic.
This album oozes style and a level of consistency rarely found in a 60s rock album. With a more coherent hazy atmosphere than other LZ albums and a tight 9 track listing that neither overstays its welcome or waste any time kicking off with the stand out track Whole Lotta Love. There’s not a lot of original comments to make about the song it’s one of the biggest and most celebrated rock songs of all time but I think it doesn’t always get the credit for being as adventurous as it is when it comes to song structure. With its sweeping atmospheric sections sandwiched by one of the all time greatest and most recognise-able riffs and vocal performances of all time. Other stand out tracks include Heartbreaker, Ramble on, and Moby dick. The weakest point of the album for me is The Lemon Song, instrumentally I don’t think there’s anything wrong with the song, the guitars and drums are as tightly played and well mixed as ever but the lyrics on this song are sub par and cringeworthy. For whatever reason the lyrics and the vocal performance don’t seem to have the usual roguish charm that would usually smooth over these types of lines from the band, they come off as tactless and bordering on groan inducing. Other of a couple of lyrical weak points the album doesn’t have many flaws, the biggest strength being the incredible instrumental writing and playing efforts of the band with soaring guitar solos, beautiful organ breaks and genius drum work by Bonham. The album flows together extremely well and feels like a complete experience that even by todays standards is genre defining and deserves the classic status it has accrued.
Es buen rock, un clásico, tampoco fui súper fan, lo tengo que escuchar más
This album is not a "lemon"! For me it is a real "heartbreaker". That's why I say "Thank you" So "Ramble On", "Mobi Dick"!
Epic
It was good I enjoyed most of the songs especially whole lotta love and ramble on 3.9/5
I mean classic rock and some blues. Just great all around.
You know it. It's a good time
Viel Jazz und Blues Elemente, irgendwie hab ich mehr Krach erwartet. Gefällt mir gut, bzw. gibt mir eine andere Perspektive auf die Band. Vorher keine Ahnung gehabt was die so machen. Aber man hört die Innovative Art Musik zu machen heraus. Macht Spaß. Ist mal leise, mal laut.
I would happily listen to this album consecutively. Great songs with interesting instrumentals and some experimentation. Really enjoy The Lemon Song. Moby Dick is only downfall not incredibly interesting but some good drums nevertheless
8/10 Fav tracks - Whole Lotta Love, The Lemon Song, Heartbreaker, Ramble On Ramble On especially is a Masterpiece.
Way better than Led Zeppelin II, my favorites were “Whole Lotta Love” and “Ramble On”
Led Zeppelin is one of those bands—events?—that support simulation theory. How can something be both completely original and thoroughly likeable?
I grew up listening to Led Zeppelin, and they used to be my favorite band of all time. This is the first Led Zeppelin album I've came across during this generator, and I'm just going to go ahead, and say it: Led Zeppelin is a glorified cover band. Every song on this track is talented, from the sick guitar riffs from Jimmy Page, to the array of instruments from John Paul Jones, to possibly the greatest drum performance of all time in "Moby Dick" from John Bonham. While I want to give it a five-star rating for thoroughly enjoying the songs, and flow of this album, I can't because it surpasses the 25% rule. It's as simple as this-if 25%, or more of the songs on an album are cover songs from other artists, I won't give it a five-star rating no matter what. I have to deduct a star. This really isn't an issue with 99% of artists I come across, but obviously Led Zeppelin is a different story. This album is simply phenomenal from the perspective of sound, and production, but unfortunately, 33.3% of the songs were written from other artists, so it loses a star. The biggest knock against this legendary band is their originality(or lack of for that matter). Favorite Song: "Thank You"
Know the album already
I love zeppelin and this is a phenomenon album.
8.42
Nice, 8/10
Maybe more of a 3, but there was one song I liked sooo much that I have to bump it up
Great
It's a classic for a reason! Who doesn't love an epic LoTR song?
Thank You - to Led Zeppelin for being much cooler than I thought Much like Lynyrd Skynyrd I was pretty dismissive of these guys but album is way cooler than I thought. A few kind of generic songs, but they have some good range I think they could push further. I want more of those experimental noisy bits incorporated through their usual songs! Best - Thank You Worst - Whole Lotta Love
Some amazing songs - first few especially
my favourite Led Zeppelin album ever
Just such an iconic sound. No wonder they were my favourite band when I was 10.
Yeah nice one
Close to a five, but have to reserve some fives for their absolute best. So many great tunes.
This is one of those albums that reminds me of my childhood since my dad used to play it a lot. Because of that, it’s hard for me to feel the same excitement about it now—it’s just so familiar. But I have to give credit where it’s due. They put this album together while constantly touring and releasing albums one after another, which is really impressive. Plus, they played a big part in pushing hard rock and early heavy metal forward.
Excellent, but not quite as excellent as Led Zeppelin IV. It's likely unfair that I'm comparing this album to that one (and not the 999 others on this list), but them's the breaks.
Amazing album. It is presented with great riffs, incredible vocals and really good performance by the entire band, while also presenting interesting and experimental ideas like in Whole Lotta Love or Bring It on Home.
If this isn't classic rock then I don't know what is! The album's iconic, banger riffs are legendary. I hadn't listened to this in a long time so it was nice to be reminded how good it was. The self-indulgent drum solo on Moby Dick is the weak point and loses me but the rest scratches that itch when I'm in the mood to get my rock on.
Has there ever been an album with so many epic riffs? Page, Bonham, Paul Jones deserve a 5 but some of Plant's cringe brings it down to 4.5
I was about 14 when I received a vinyl copy of this for Christmas. I found it so mysterious and exciting. As my tastes have changed I tend to find Led Zeppelin a little annoying these days. Nevertheless I enjoyed listening to this again and it has some great moments, “What is and what should never be”, “Thank You” and “Ramble On” among their best. I don’t like the cliched bluesy rockers as much.
I’d not heard this record is years. It was a favourite of mine when I was much younger and it still holds up pretty well. It’s much funkier than I remember, which is no bad thing. Minus one point for all those tedious solos. I’m looking at you Moby Dick
I feel like there are three camps regarding LZ - one worships them, one likes their music and certain songs, the last could care less. I’m more the middle group. I sometimes choose to listen to them but not that often. Another curious thing to me about LZ is that I know way more of their songs than I realize. I remember guitar riffs or lyrics but can’t retain song titles. This album is a great example of that as I knew a good half of the songs without realizing it by looking at the titles. Good stuff from an incredibly influential group.
Always love when zeppelin pops up on the list
always love some zeppelin
yeah this is a classic
This is Kobe of their better albums. Not a huge fan of the band but ramble on is a great song
I already love the first seven Zeppelin albums, and at least a couple are real masterpieces to me. II has shifted up and down over time for me, and where I stand now it's just not quite in the top tier. Don't get me wrong, it's got some great songs, and there are moments in "The Lemon Song" and "Bring it on Home" that still give me goosebumps every time, but as a complete album there's enough missing from some songs to bump it just a bit in my view.
It was really good
8/10
Brilliant Zeppelin... classic and real ROCK
Classic
When I’m in old person mode and want to complain to my kids about new music, Led Zeppelin is my go-to band for “they don’t write em like that anymore”. So many layers, nothing formulaic about them. So much talent.
I was in a deep session of things to do while listening. It was helpful. Will revisit.
Heard most before, a good album!
This is a pretty cool album. So many tracks that are used everyday.
I can respect a classic even if it doesn’t speak to me on any sort of deeper level.
This has some really cool riffs on it. Starts out with a big one with Whole lot of Love. Though a fine song, Thank You felt a little out of place, maybe just out of position. Ramble On is one of their greatest hits obviously. The album felt like it got lost sometimes and a little too loose compared to what they would go on to do. Some great Harmonica on Bring it on Home but as far as a cover song bit goes, I don't think it was necessary and seems like it got them into some trouble anyway. A strong album with one of my favorite Zeppelin tracks but not my favorite Zeppelin album.
Not my favorite of there's but still a solid album. Sounds exactly like what you think a led Zeppelin album's going to sound like.
faranlega goð log a tessari
Some undoubted classics here but not enough to make it a standout for me to be honest.
Great album actually. Surprised me. Enjoyed all songs on it. A nice mix of softer and herder stuff
Led Zeppelin baaayyybeeee!
Classic
I was prepared to say that this album was overrated, but I really enjoyed the experience of listening to this one. I didn't even realize it was over and had started over again until more than halfway through.
I think I prefer earlier zeppelin a tiny bit
Led Zep, man. They really couldn't do wrong, musically.
The sound of a band comfortably in their prime, appropriating the influences that shaped them and performing at a level far surpassing their peers. Very much a product of its time, listening in 2024 is more nostalgic than electrifying, however the legacy of this LP cannot be denied. 4/5 High- Thank You Low- Living Loving Maid
Especially liked "whole lotta love" and "rambling on"
Well, I've now reviewed the first 4 Led Zeppelin albums in addition to Physical Grafitti. I don't know that there's much to say here that I haven't covered elsewhere. It's a great album, big and powerful, but with well-crafted songs and reasonably good lyrics. It's not the best Zeppelin album, or even top 3 for me, but like all of the other albums I've gotten by them, it's its own thing and it's really well done 4/5
Another classic rock album! Guitars, foot stompin’ tunes. Many recognizable songs. Amazing throughout, but was not a big fan of the drum solo near the end. High 4
Enjoyable. A classic. Cool vocals. Skillful musicians. Not something I'd listen to again, personally.
Classic
Lot more blues than 3 I feel and all better sound.
What can I say? It’s obviously good
Classic rock and roll classic band and classic album. Blusy and raw and Plants vocals are gritty it reminds me I need to listen to more Zep. Stand out tracks: - Whole lotta love - The lemon song - Thank you - Heartbreaker - Ramble on - Bring it on home
Precis som 1:an och 3-4 så är även denna riktigt bra rakt igenom. Blir fan inte mer rock n roll än så här.
good ass opening song 100% heard parts of these songs before just not in full goes without saying but the instruments go hard lemon song instrumental break would 100% be used in a bar fight scene very obvious that there is a lot of inspiration from blues music LIVING! LOVING! SHES JUST A WOMAN will probs be stuck in my head moby dick: hell yeah
Not a bad album.
Getting dated but still good
I enjoyed it, there were some good songs on there 8/10
as rock and roll as it gets
Thankyou is the best by far.....
Every Led Zeppelin album seems to have one of the 100 most played and known guitar riffs of all time. Led Zeppelin II is no exception.
Great rock, if you like LZ you know. 3.7
Best LZ album in my view
great as always is Led Zeppelin II, some great songs like Living Loving Maid and Thank You. With albums you also gotta not take for granted how good it sounds and how modern it sounds. still holding up today. 8/10.
Strong 9 Such a huge step up from their debut Fav Tracks: Whole Lotta Love, The Lemon Song, Heartbreaker, Living Loving Maid, Ramble On Least Fav Track: Moby Dick(If I have to pick one)
For the first time ever, I have now gotten three repeat artists in a row! Oh well, I can't be too upset considering that all three albums have been, at least, pretty good. "Pretty good" is basically how I feel about Led Zeppelin II. Admittedly, it's probably my least favorite of the three Led Zeppelin albums I've gotten so far. Led Zeppelin IV and even Physical Graffiti were better in my opinion. However, I don't want to downplay the importance of this album, especially considering that this album is quite important. It's certainly very influential. I have problems with it, sure. I do think that it is a bit repetitive in some regards and the writing isn't always great. However, there are some truly commendable elements of this album. The sound is great. It's got a bluesy core while still being a bit heavier than what was to be expected of music in 1969. Songs like "Heartbreaker" exemplify this excellently. Most songs on here are pretty great. "Whole Lotta Love" is a classic. I really like "Ramble On." It might be my favorite of the album. Back to the sound, the singing is quite fun and the instrumentation is on point at all times. Overall, while I like the other Led Zeppelin albums more than this one, there's no denying that Led Zeppelin II is an iconic album that absolutely deserves the praise despite its faults. 4/5.
Chad 4.5
Led Zeppelin is one of those classic rock groups I’ve always enjoyed. I think I listen to IV more than any other album of theirs, so it’s nice to see this one pop up that I probably haven’t listened to in 1 or 2 decades. Had it rocking while eating breakfast.
Probably my 3rd favourite Zep album, which shows the strength of their discography
Such a phenomenal album. And not even my favorite from them.
С одной стороны, эта группа породила миллиард групп, которые я терпеть не могу. С другой, это произошло по понятной причине - это хорошая, или даже больше, музыка. Лучшая песня - Whole Lotta Love.
Classic!!!
Some very famous tracks
A better album than Led Zep IV in my opinion. More of a consistent flow to the tracks and importantly no weird folk tracks. There are still some weak tracks on the album though. Maybe they should avoid putting the best track on the album first as per this and Led Zep IV so the rest doesn't disappoint.
Didn't enjoy it as much as IV, and despite feeling like no song really grabbed me, I ended up replaying the album many times during the day. A subliminal hit is a great hit in my books
yay
Very close to a 5
unbelievable album per usual - i really really like led zeppelin, although some of their songs go on for way too long.
Led Zeppelin, baby!
Classic album some top tunes on here. I own the album. Would score higher but solo fret wanking and long drum solo kills the vibe for me. 8/10
Timeless
Borrowed LP from Tom
I wish I could have seen them in concert. This music needs to be appreciated live. Like see the sweat and the energy and passion fly. Circus. Speed up, slow down. Drugs and rock n roll.
"Whole Lotta Love" is my favorite Led Zeppelin song and always has been. The rest of the album is also great. As much as I've heard so many LZ songs, I've never listened through every album, so I feel that when I do, I'm often surprised at the flow of them, as they aren't all "hits." However, I did like this album and will revisit it.
A classic that didn’t quite make it up to a 5 although it was close
Aside from the music being top notch I think Robert Plant has one of my favorite rock frontman voices
This album was very good. Amazing how fast their production was
Clasic
Quite a few classics on this one! Enjoyed it, but it was a bit long. Would have been more enjoyable without the random whining too 4 ⭐️
Remastered version sounded great
I unexpectedly enjoyed this album a lot more than I initially thought I would. Plus, it's an absolute classic.
Well, I've officially finished the Led Zeppelin quadrilogy. Crazy that the entirety of these first four albums were recorded in less than a two and a half year span. The music production process was just different back then. This might be the better of the first four LZ albums. Like the others, "LZ II" has a few of the notable singles including "Whole Lotta Love", "Heartbreaker", and "Ramble On" (my personal favorite of theirs). Once again, one can hear the mixing of blues-inspired rock with harder rock here. The iconic riffs from Page (see: "Heartbreaker" and the drum playing from Bonham (basically the entirety of "Moby Dick", for those who like those types of instrumental showcases) are notable. Lyrically still sexually charged as ever, if you're paying even an ounce of attention. The folk and fantasy inspirations records creep in with "Ramble On" as well. As with any other LZ album though, the other songs don't really stack up with the mammoth singles featured and tend to feel "filler-y" as a result. Although "Thank You" and Bring It on Home" stand out for me; the former for being more mellow and tender, and the latter bringing an interesting twist to a blues classic. I'd still consider this on par with, say, "Led Zeppelin IV".
This is the second album I've listened to from this site. I like how it's like a mix of classic rock and the blues, with also sort of grungy sounding vocals (But I don't think that was intentional given the year the album was released) I think the second half of the album was better, just because of personal preference, but the whole thing was pretty cool. Totally classic.
Best Song: Ramble On. Classic Zeppelin, in that it feels like a perfect merger between soft folk elements and harder, more bombastic rock. Worst Song: Bring It on Home. Just a real sleepy way to end the album. Overall: Most Zeppelin is good Zeppelin, and even though this clearly isn't them at their best - with quite a few forgettable tracks strewn about - the character of their sound is still plenty compelling to make this a fun listen.
Mint
Whole Lotta Love or Ramble On
Gran disco. Todavía hicieron varios más estupendos.
Train did it better. Great album but I think Led Zeppelin went on to do better and greater things on future albums.
Another sort of classic easy pick for an all time list. Ahead of its time, well produced and I hope we get the first album.
My Led Zeppelin experience is limited to Led Zepp IV and Physical Graffiti. On the whole, I liked this more than Physical Graffiti. I think I like Kashmir more than LZ 2, but we're comparing albums here.
I'm surprised it's taken nearly 175 albums for my first Led Zeppelin album in this collection, but I'm glad it's a classic of theirs. I've never really tracked which albums their ever-plentiful radio-played songs came from (and I'll admit I've never owned any Led Zeppelin albums), so I'm really impressed at how much of this album I've heard before; I think this is my first listen to just "The Lemon Song" (and maybe "Moby Dick" too, although I feel like I've heard Bonham's solo before...). I find it very odd that they never released any singles in the UK while they were active (according to the Wikipedia article for the album), and also odd to find out that the only single from this album (released only outside the UK) was "Whole Lotta Love"; just based on their radio plays in the US, I'd have guessed that several others were singles too (especially "Heartbreaker", "Living Loving Maid" and "Ramble On"). And very cool to find out that Jimmy Page had a huge role in the recording/producing process across the the various studios they recorded this album in while touring. Regardless, this album has a very classic Zeppelin sound, which has never been my first choice to listen to, but it's hard to deny either the strength of the album or their heavy influence (pun intended) on later bands!
This is a classic album with hits that include Whole Lotta Love, What is and What Should Never Be, Heartbreaker, Ramble On, and Moby Dick. You get your money's worth on this one.
Already listened.
Not their best one in my opinion but still solid
Solid album
Wel nice
Whole Lotta Love, so geht Rock! Und der Rest der Platte lebt von der kernigen Stimme von Robert Plant und der Gitarre von Jimmy Page.
I forgot how bluesy this record is. I love Led Zeppelin, I mean, how could one not like this band? That aside, I rarely listen to them anymore. It's hard to get fired up for older music. But since this list is forcing me to revisit, it's been such a pleasure coming across albums like this. Aside from listening to Robert Plant cumming into the microphone on Whole Lotta Love, this record is fantastic. JPJ is the unsung hero in Led Zeppelin and is my favourite of the 4. John Bonham is a beast. Jimmi Page is a tad overrated for me but I respect what he does, and Robert Plant loves to cum into the microphone.
What can I say, it's a classic! Had fun listening to it. Baby enjoyed bopping around to it.
Rock that I will listen to at some point in my life
Whole lotta love is grating
Pretty solid album, I'm not really a led zeppelin fan but this might be my favourite of theirs I've heard so far.
Great album, was very impressed on nearly all the songs, enjoyable and concise, very little filler.
i liked it very much
Moby Dick drum solo
Forgot to write yesterday. Cool album, a good time to be had. I was impressed to learn that Led Zeppelin 1-4 all came out one year after the other. Looking forward to more. Standouts: Whole Lotta Love, What Is and What Should Never Be, Thank You, and Ramble On.
Can't deny the absolute hits on this album. And the other non hits are good stuff too.
John Paul Jones really holds it down here. What a musician. Once again I have to begrudgingly admit that a Led Zeppelin album is really good. I still have trouble with Robert Plant's voice. Listening to this after getting Led IV a while ago also reveals that his writing improved over time, thank goodness. I have to say, the remaster sounds fantastic. Highlights: Whole Lotta Love (I really want to dislike this song because of the alleged plagiarism of it all, but that riff is unstoppable), Heartbreaker, Ramble On
A classic if there ever was one.
I like this one for the most part. I think it's an improvement over the (in my opinion) vastly overrated debut album. I'm pretty tired of Whole Lotta Love at this point and Lemon Song is not amongst my favorites but the rest of this album is pretty enjoyable.
4+
heavy blues rock with a killer groove. this album is solid top to bottom and exemplifies the top notch musicianship from all four members of the band. highlights: “what is and what should never be”, “ramble on”, “moby dick”
A good old Led Zeppelin classic. Better not to focus too much on the lyrics that are stupid at best, unsettling and disgusting at worst. Great riffing, great drumming, great bass lines, and well, Plant's vocals are what they are you know -- sometimes I find them powerful, sometimes irritating.
quality
Good album start to finish 4.2/5
Mega enjoyed !
not my fave led zep album, but it still slaps - 4.5
Every Zep album is going to be on this thing aren't they. Don't mind all that much to be honest. They all definitely start to blend together but they found a cool sound and it works so.
i thought it was pretty good. generally i enjoy led zeppelin's stuff, even if it's not my favorite. i think this one was helped by not having a lot of tracks that have ended up ridiculously overplayed on classic rock radio
As a huge fan of Led Zeppelin, I must admit that there are iconic tracks (Whole Lotta Love). It really is a classic. It is not my favorite of the band, but it's still pretty great ;)
Whole lotta love! Klassischer Progrock 4/5
Another album which was a lot better than I was expecting. I'm somewhere between 3 and 4 stars on this, think it's closer to 4 and I'm feeling generous.
A classic. The sum is greater than the individual parts and I don’t think I would rank it as high if it didn’t flow together so nicely. Don’t get me wrong, I enjoy every song on the album, but there hasn’t been a standout track that I’ve fallen in love with. For example the original Led Zeppelin had the initial tracks that grabbed me but it took time before I completely fell for Babe I’m Gonna Leave You, and I don’t have a comparison of that on II. Also as someone who loves drum solos on albums I have to say Moby Dick never did it for me, it’s fine but Bonham showcases his brilliance better in regular tracks and fills. (4.5/5)
leddy
Marvellous, I'm in serious danger of having to acknowledge being wrong for the first ever time. Led Zep are not, repeat not, just for nerds who love widdling guitars. Thank You in particular was tremendous, and had the song writing style of Wings-era Macca to my ears.
Pretty quintessential Led Zeppelin. More spacious and dramatic than their debut but not quite as raw and immediate. Very good though not what I would consider one of my favorite albums or anything. Best song: Heartbreaker
I have always enjoyed Led Zepplin, but am by no means the biggest fan. This is a really great album. I would say 4.5 but will shade it on the 4 side.
At times brilliant and at times irritating
Lots of hits and sick guitar work! All that holds it back to me is the odd monotonous feel I get from the b sides, but its lifted by the standout tracks. a great entry
Most of this album is really good! The rest is just shitty blues and drum solos
personal rating: 4.5/9
Ramble On alone elevates this album as it is an all time great rock song. The rest of the album is also solid. Led Zeppelin is really good at incorporating various sounds and instruments into their music to expand the experience. They have better albums than this one but it is still a worthwhile listen to that I will come back to.
John Paul jones is daddy
Another classic
The first five Zeppelin albums are just so much fun that it’s hard to pick a favorite. Some days it’s III and other days it’s II. This is an almost perfect record - star deduction for Thank You which is categorically terrible.
Liking the early LZ albums of course, favourite Ramble On!
Excellent Led Zeppelin album, like LZ-I just a bit more.
Maybe I was not in the mood for Zeppelin, but this one felt a little uneven, and I got slightly irritated by Plant's singing. I'd say my least favourite LZ album so far, but the band still sounded solid of course.
Nice and bluesy with a perfect opener, probably my favourite LZ album.
What's there to say? It's Zep. Whole Lotta Love and Ramble On are the stars, What Is and What Should Never Be has a nice moving bass line, but Heartbreaker is the fave.
Excellent stuff. I can really see both sides of the love/hate Zep camps, but this is classic.
A pretty good listen.
Not as good as 4 but still great whole lotta love
I mean cmon, it’s a classic. Loved it, but listening in full helped me realize how many more bangers were on that album than I thought
Really shows you that nerds could be hot, cool and good at music if they put their heart into it.
dritbra, men ikke legendarisk
Love Led Zep, not a 5 star album though
Great
banger
One of the best opening tracks in rock music history.
familiar with this one , while i don’t hold led zep in as high a regard as some , it’s a mostly solid classic ocking album .
Classic x many great memories of listening to this as a 17 year old
Have I heard this album before? Yes Highlights: Whole Lotta Love, What Is and What Should Never Be, The Lemon Song, Thank You, Heartbreaker, Ramble On, Moby Dick, Bring It On Home Rating: 8.9/10 This isn’t my favourite Led Zeppelin album but it still absolutely kicks ass. When you think of ‘classic rock’, this is the sound you think of.
Lived too long just not the same impact but very good stuuf
Showcasing the problem with rating out of 5 stars. It's a good 9/10 but in all honesty I don't think it warrants a 5 star rating. It's phenomenal, and full of absolute classics, but also a decent amount of filler.
⭐️ thank you ⭐️bring it on home 7/10
I listened to a Led Zeppelin a lot when I was in high school and stepped away from it for several years. This was better than I remembered and what's more is that I never really picked up on their influences when I was younger. All in all, a very solid album.
I've said it before and ill say it again: it's insane how many LZ songs I have heard a hundred times without ever really choosing Leddy Z. Lots of really good rock with that whimsical sound that they can weave in and out of their tracks. This one didn't have thoss fantasy style interludes that I really liked in the last one we listened to. Solid album start to finish, but again, doesn't have the chutzpah for a 5.
My least listened to of the Led Zepellin - Led Zeppelin IV thats for sure. I always forget how crazy Whole Lotta Love sounds when you listen to it with headphones. The switching around of where the sound is coming from sure is trippy. It is so hard to give a fair rating to albums that I have listened to so many times and know every song. But Zeppelin just always does great things for me. Love Bonham's drumming and the rock/blues aspects that they always throw in.
I LOVE 7/9 of these songs. The Greta Van Fleet sound is soooo similar and I love them so hearing the music that originally brought that sound to us is very special.
pre listening notes: i’m excited bc this is my dad’s favorite band! Whole Lotta Love - so far sounds p much like what i expected, very of its time rock & roll w some trippiness that i guess is unexpected! ik this is a band al their own but my only real frame of reference for this type of music is aerosmith, motley crue, and some pink floyd-ness What Is And What Never Should Be - i was a little tuned out for this one but yk. it’s very much easy listening music. i would gladly smoke a doob to this yk The Lemon Song - the lyrics are very simple but it is a bop tho huh. the music is super good, the guitarist & bass & drums. tasty! Thank You - mannn i would love to feel this way about someone. i feel patriotic??? Heartbreaker - i like this one. everyone can relate to an old lover who is no good for u i think Living Loving Maid (She’s Just A Woman) - idk what this song is about but i am also just a woman! and it’s catchy! Ramble On - we love a lord of the rings reference lolll. but i do love the vibe of this song. Rambling, searching for the queen of your dreams. yeah this is my fav one off the album. it’s also the only one i knew i think before listening today Moby Dick - literally didn’t realize a new song had started from the last one bc it’s just drums Bring It On Home - great name for the last song on an album. the use of daddy is weird. but idk the overall vibe is sick. i like the harmonica
Riff-tastic. Deserves its classic status.
I was confident LZ2 must contain the most “baby” mentions by Robert Plant of any Zeppelin album. To my surprise it is second to the album Presence. This Reddit post I found was great - https://www.reddit.com/r/ledzeppelin/comments/9t5n4d/number_of_babys_or_babes_in_each_album/
rock and roll baby
It's amazing how quickly Led Zeppelin turned around and put out another record in the same year with an even stronger track listing than its predecessor. It's not unheard of, but its just rare enough to be impressive, and considering there's some great tracks here, you can tell they were having a creative overflow. The album itself is extremely solid, with great, memorable riffs, a solid thumping beat, and bluesy guitar just rocking enough to not be repetitive and therefore, dull. The album loses its momentum as it goes on, and could stand to cut off a few tracks (although you can tell Moby Dick was purely made to be a live track that would go on for ages) but otherwise this is an album where you can only see the upwards trajectory the band was headed in.
despite the hate for this band, i find myself baffled by how good they are. i think there's some merit in their music, long from the plagiarism and popularity. And how most of the songs here slap, i think that's the reason
Can’t bring myself to give this a 5 because I think “Thank You” and “Living Loving Maid” are kinda dull. But the riff in “What is and What Should Never Be” around 3:30 transports me to a higher plane of existence.
Familiar with Led Zeppelin only by name, I don’t think I’ve ever heard any of their songs in full. I’m loving their music way more than I assumed I would, which is a great feeling.
The highs of this are really high. But you have to wonder, would it be better if they'd produced it down to a bunch of 3.5 minute tracks?
Pretty great. Influenced lots of bands, yada yada yada. I can only stand so much Robert Plant, though. 4/5
Solid album. Not really a bad song on here. I wish they hadn’t made Moby Dick the drum solo song, it has a cool riff but the rest of the song is boring. Also although musically the lemon song is very cool the lyrics are cringe.
This is a classic album, and I love it. Every track a winner with Robert Plant sounding as late 60's as ever, singing about Golumn and juice running down his leg! lol Whole lotta love and Ramble are my standout tracks. Listened to it all day!
Classic album. Possibly should give it 5 stars but gonna give it 4 for some reason, maybe for just being too familiar, maybe for saying 'baby' too many times.
Good album, I like Led Zeppelin but not as much as they liked having underaged girls come on tour with them back in those days when this came out.
pretty good stuff
Blues meets rock and the dude can sure sing. Heard this album before. Found myself getting lost listening to the bass line this time.
Some iconic riffs. Probably my second favorite Led Zeppelin album behind IV.
Not quite at their absolute best yet, but a significant step up from Led Zep 1
This is an album that I am quite familiar with, but really love. Probably not my favorite from Zeppelin, but it's up there. I haven't listened to II in quite a while and forgot just how many gems are on this. Even lulls have such amazing performances from Page that you still enjoy them. 4/5
I just love Zeppelin I that much more
Plant's divine voice and Page's fat guitar with an awesome solo in Whole Lotta Love. It's just a balm to my ears. Awesome.
