Reviews (page 11 of 13)
All the stars purely for the blue meanies cover of l.a. woman because we love and appreciate Brian Cancemi
FAVORITES Love Her Madly- love the way the lyrics rhyme L.A Woman- too catchy not to add to my playlist Riders On The Storm- the piano runs are sooo good, made me so happy. beautiful breaks from the typical style of the songs in the album
Allt með doors er eins
Classic dad rock album. I think it's more revered than it should be, mainly because it was the last album The Doors released before Jim Morrison's untimely death. I don't have the album, but I don't really enjoy Morrison's voice. Rider's on the Storm is truly a great song though. Best Songs: L.A. Woman, Riders on the Storm, Crawling King Snake Worst Songs: L'America, The Changeling
I was surprised to hear Jim Morrison's voice is so low. I expected it to be different. Good album though, but it didn't stick with me.
As far as the Doors go, this one was pretty good. Really like the organ work on it.
Bastante Gucci.
Still not a Doors fan. The titular track is fine, but overall still not doing it for me
Good solid early 70s grooving, not outstanding, Jim Morrison is the star and this isn't their or his best work but good enough for a 3.
It was ok not my cup of tea
T’was alright Ridahz on tha storm tha goat though
I found two songs wildly annoying and out of place, I believe "L'America" and "The Wasp". Without these, 5/5
2 good songs, L’America and Riders on the Storm. And obviously I prefer the Snoop Dogg version of Riders on the Storm but still pretty decent for boomer music So a weak 3 I guess
i expected this entire album to be as good as riders of the storm but no, not even close still giving it a 3 just because that song is so good NFS Underground had such a good soundtrack
Oh. Thought that would have been better given all the hype. Still it had Riders On The Storm.
Riders on the storm
These songs are so freaking long omg
It’s all about the three big hits in ‘Love Her Madly’, ‘L.A. Woman’, and ‘Riders On The Storm’, the latter being two of the great driving songs of all time. ‘The Changeling’ is also a solid opener. The rest of the album while pleasant is largely forgettable for mine.
An enjoyable blues rock album by the Doors
I mean Riders On The Storm is a certified banger. The rest wasn't really my style, too much of the same doodly melodies of the 70s.The Blusie stuff is well done but not for me. Overall solid album but I fail to see what it brought to the table to make it one of the best.
This album grew on me. First listen through it just seemed okay. By the 3rd listen I liked most of the songs. Favorites were Riders on the Storm, Love Her Madly, LA Woman, Hyacinth House, and Cars Hiss By My Window
It had great sounds but the words weren’t familiar to me so it didn’t draw me in. I’m still glad I can say I listened to it.
Less interesting then the other Doors album we did. I enjoyed the songs i knew but the rest felt like filler.
Meh. It’s a good album I suppose but I feel like I’m one of the only people who just don’t get excited about the doors
cool album, but outside of the more well known tracks, nothing mind blowing. riders on the storm incredible though. Listened through 2x
Really enjoyed it, new indie feel at times.
Solid and everything but the only song I connected to was the last one, Riders on the Storm.
a good one! in particular, I like crawling king snake. its rhythm is fun. riders on the storm is great as well. love the sound of rain and thunderstorms blending with melody. -S I was familiar with riders on the storm since need for speed underground 2, because of the snoop dogg remix. I also heard L.A. woman before. Even though I kinda like these two songs, I wouldn't listen to any of the other ones again since they didn't catch my attention. I know that they had a big influence in the rock scene but for modern Standards I just felt a little underwhelmed and experimental. I think I even liked their debut album "the doors" more. But still a good listen. -A
Didn't mind the album, all songs were pretty decent, no obvious weak point. However I didn't find anything all that spectacular, this style of music generally just doesn't excite me. Fav Track: Riders on the storm
Not sure I was ever a die hard for The Doors. There's a lot of charm and style, but was never certain about the actual music. I think this lands somewhere in the good but not amazing category for me. I enjoyed the listen, quite a bit, but still maybe I'm missing something. Three and a half. Fave track: Riders on the Storm
Good album to listen to while doing other things. Heard some samples in there which I didn’t realise were from this album.
Obviously The Doors are an iconic band - I loved their early stuff as a teen, but I didn't know this album (only Riders on the Storm). I liked the bluesy vibe and the band sound really tight, but thinking about Jim Morrison just depresses me so I can't say that I really enjoyed it. If I were doing a road trip around the states (it's so evocative!) I might feel differently, but on my daily commute? Not so much!
I didn't realise Jim's voice was so, um, erratic? Into the Riders on the Storm croon, less on some of the more screechy. Good blues and good 60s though.
Psych-blues. End of the sixties. Iconic. I'm coming around to the importance of the Doors, but they're less psych and less blues than their contemporaries. You could listen to Little Feat, Canned Heat or Eric Clapton if you just wanted some white guy blues or a more trippy rock band (Jefferson Airplane?) if you wanted the psych. This album also reinforces that one of the things they're most famous for -- lack of a bass player -- is a fault, not a virtue. Jerry Scheff (Elvis's bass player) shines here and it's a real insult to him to jam to this album while wearing a "No Bass" T-shirt. Every rock fan should listen to this album, though. Yeah, it's loose in deliberate ways that don't benefit it ("LA Woman" is at least two minutes too long), Jim Morrison seems subscribed to his own fan club and there are frankly much better blues outfits from any era, but there was never a blues more psychedelic, doom-y and downright weird as this. There'd be no Sabbath or QOTSA or all kinds of modern, polished, focused doom-y stoners playing what's ultimately a gussied-up version of Black music from the Delta without these weird white dudes on acid.
debutalbum fast sämre
Yeah, classic rock… I appreciate it, for sure, just not my very favorite.
Mister MOJO RISING 3.5/5 round down
Changeling // Love Her Madly // Hyacinth House // Riders on the Storm 2.5-3/5
boring beginning, gets better in the middle, good last song. 3.5 riders on the storm
Some great songs in here but some of the blues felt very repetitive.
Quite bluesy, not as dated as expected
Decent. Not sure I'd repeat listen much, but glad to know more about The Doors' deeper tracks.
Didn't enjoy this album as much as I thought I would. A few of the songs were nostalgic, but any of the songs with the dueling shrill guitars were rather unpleasant.
Alright, has it's ups (Riders on the Storm) and downs (L'America)
not what i'd listen to on my own time. sounds exactly from the time period, which isn't bad, but i've never been a fan of the 70's or its music so i'm not enjoying it as much as someone who was a regular of that kind of music would. this doesn't make it BAD, i think sonically it's pretty sound. just not my taste. also from the time period; the cover. it's ugly. and it's very 70's. my lord. first thing i noticed, is i'm pretty sure the last song on this album was in need for speed underground 2. it's been so long since i've played that game, but it's still very nostalgic, so it made me like the album even before i listened. the songs are long, especially for the modern day where 2 minutes of song seem to be enough for most artists. looking at you, newjeans. though that does sometimes make me wonder when it'll finally be over. especially the songs i don't like as much.
Riders on the Storm is the best song on the album, if a tad long. The whole album sounds more bluesy than the rest of their discography.
Big fan of the doors when I was younger but always preferred their live albums. This has some good songs but also some forgettable blues. Probably a 7/10 for me but rounding down to 3 stars
Forgot how many hits were on this album
Beautiful production. Some great songs, some cut and past blues/rock and roll. An enjoyable listen, doesn't really move me though
pretty decent album but not for me really
A group of very talented people making music that doesn't speak to me.
Not bad
Not bad. Not amazing. Was good
Of it’s time with a couple of great tracks, but then …
Meh not really for me but overall pretty good
The 12 bar blues for an entire album? Revolutionary
Not my favorite
My 19 year old self really liked this. The Doors are always on my list of kinda good bands. The musicianship is ok, the lyrics are very 60s but JM's voice IS GREAT. That is what makes The Doors, well, The Doors. IF your new to The Doors this is a good, fun album. If you know them then you probably didn't listen to any of this album becuase you couldn't stand to listen to Riders on the Storm for the zillionth time in your life.
Honestly, I'm not sure how I feel about this band. I don't think I like them as much as I want to like them. Don't get me wrong- I do like some of their songs. But I can't help but feel that The Doors constantly fall short of my hopes and expectations. I hadn't heard this album before, but I had heard their first album, which I wasn't too sold on the first time I heard it, but my tastes weren't as broad back then. I haven't gotten it on the list yet but am looking forward to hearing it again when I do get it, as it's been so long! From this album I only knew "Riders On The Storm" which, unsurprisingly, is my favourite song on here. The reasons it's unsurprising is that I'd heard it before (we all have that tendency, don't we?), and because it's a classic. Everyone loves it, and for good reason. It's a great song. Overall, though, I was disappointed. I think I was expecting some really surreal psychedelia, and instead I got a whole lot of blues. In terms of sound, this wasn't too big a deal. And it's not like there's no psychedelic influences in here either. Although blues is the primary genre, there's also plenty of psychedelic stylings which are combined with the blues in a really cohesive way that I've never heard anyone do before. It gives them such a distinctive and well rounded sound. I'm absolutely crazy about the contrast between dark and light, grounded and ethereal, real world grit and dreamlike reverie that this synthesis creates. As you can probably tell, my expectations being knocked a little didn't end up bothering me that much in terms of soundscapes. However, I'm a songwriter. When I say this, I don't just mean I'm someone who writes songs- songwriter is my identity. It's in my blood. Therefore, when listening to music, I find it really challenging not to listen primarily to the songwriting and judge it by that. I found a lot of these songs to be boring blues songs with uninspired lyrics about love, of the kind you hear in too many blues songs. There were a few times, too, where the 12 bar sequence shuffle just got a little old. It feels both disingenuous and unoriginal coming from The Doors of all people, especially considering their reputation for being psychedelic trailblazers. They're not black blues legends. They're not a rock and roll group, like the early Beatles and Stones, who took their point of difference from making blues more accessible and more pop. Obviously, all this classic rock is blues inspired in some way. But in terms of straight blues, I think it reach its peak pretty soon after its conception. There is only so much you can do within a genre where every song has the same chord progression and lyrics are generally very simple. By the time The Doors came onto the scene, it had all pretty much been done... I have no interest in hearing them copying and rehashing old blues tropes rather than pursuing the stylings that make them unique. I also need to add that for me, Jim Morrison's vocals just weren't it on this album. He just sounded tired all the time and I found it challenging to emotionally connect with his delivery. Ray Manzarek, on the other hand... why, as a keyboardist in a band, he's an inspiration to me. I aspire to be able to play like him. He is so central to The Doors' sound and is my favourite thing about it, providing warmth, light, colour, energy and soul to every song. In regards to the actual songs. Well, other than "Riders On The Storm" being an obvious favourite, I also really enjoyed "The WASP." It was so surreal with such poetic, imagery rich lyrics! Also, I've got to hand it to the solid opener "The Changeling." Not only does it rock, but I found the whole lyrical concept hilarious. In a good way. Despite all my misgivings, the only song I absolutely hated was "Crawling King Snake." I just thought it was so stupid. What were they thinking? Favourite tracks: Riders On The Storm, The WASP (Texas Radio and the Big Beat)
riders of the storm is great, half are fine, and the rest are very monotonous
Very bluesy, great production, and ends with one of their greatest songs. Another one of those artists where I usually default to the same album whenever i want to listen to them (the self-titled), but I might have to add this one into the rotation. Bit of a quality dip from the first couple tracks until Riders, but couldn't really pick a weak track overall.
Well title track, Riders on the Storm and Love her Madly are great songs, and as a record it’s not too long and decently paced but kind of saga in its third quarter. And even though I had the joy of rediscovering Morrisons strength of voice - I still am a bit off the Doors for some reason - and this record is not special enough for me to see past that.
Its amazing that big slaps can be on this album, interspersed with lazy trash songs. The doors sound tastes like a microwaved cheeseburger. You know that there's something great about it but it just doesn't live up to its potential
Favourite song: Riders on the Storm
Good album, but a bit samey. Not a huge fan of the organ being so prominent on all the songs, but that happens when you have an organist. Good vocals, often bizarre lyrics, largely unexciting music. 3 ⭐
I like The Doors, with their debut being one of my favorite albums, and I understand why this album is here, but for me, it's not one of their best. It's good and remarkable, but it's possible to choose another one with the same qualities, ignoring the importance of being the last release with Morrison alive.
At this point The Doors are so ingrained in to the culture of American Music, it's impossible to not know most of these songs. I've never listened to the whole album start to finish, and it's just fine. The hits still slap, there are some nice weird songs in there, and then also some sprawling way too bluesy jams for me, which is just kind of how I think of The Doors in general. So I guess this is probably a pretty good representation of them as a whole I think.
Not bad!
Blues rock is great but very draining for 50 minutes. I feel like this theme will reoccur throughout this list. Tracks like L’America and the undeniably classic The Changeling do more interesting things but don’t save the experience.
Okay album. Different than I was expecting, I don't think I'll think too much about it after. Mid 3
Not really my type of music. Can appreciate it though!
It got my mojo rising.
Woman pis les Riders of the storm.
ok
”L.A. Woman” tries it’s best to capture the dark underbelly of the city of angels with vibrant energy and allure. The Doors do this by painting vivid soundscapes, blending rock, blues, and psychedelic elements. The title track does a good job to convey this with Jim Morrison's haunting vocals and Ray Manzarek's mesmerizing keyboard work adding an extra layer of intrigue. The hypnotic rhythm and Manzarek's haunting keyboard melodies on the track ”Riders on the Storm” is another big highlight of the album whilst Robby Krieger's blistering guitar riffs, John Densmore's dynamic drumming, and Morrison's raw vocals shine through on the track ”The Changeling”. This is an album that demands attention, well shown on this song. The Doors do a good job of creating rock”y” tracks that still get introspective without it sounding weird. This album kind of confirmed to me that The Doors are a very good band.
Bland
Nice vibe
good, not their best
Bill
Nice enough but doesn’t reach the highs of their better albums
Something about Jim Morrison I do not like
Not really feeling what Morrison is doing vocally. Closer feels like it should’ve been the opener.
It's fine. Some interesting musical ideas, meh on the vocals/lyrics. Inoffensive but doesn't stand out.
There were a couple of nice songs which I could see coming up in my daily mix and me getting behind and vibing to. A lot of the songs just felt like 7-8mins of meh tho and that was disappointing.
It was aight. Pretty standard 70s bluesy rock, at least coming at it today.
its ok but no my style
Top songs for me today were Been Down So Long and Riders on the Storm. I love the blues heavy sound and I think this album is a fun listen. Not terribly complex or overproduced, it is a very casual listen.
I think I liked Morrison Hotel more, but I still liked pieces here and there. I like some of the instrumentation on here, but I wasn't really into a lot of the songs. My favourite song was Love Her Madly.
eh
Some really good songs on this blues forward album, which is the paradox. It's a varied collection of tracks without a direction.
Certainly seems a seminal work with Love Her Madly, LA Woman and Riders of the Storm. It has such a strong blues-rock feel and stands out that though being a product of 1970, it doesn't sound particularly dated. Really liked Crawling King Snake.
it's meh
A handful of great songs, but a lot of duds too
Riders on the Storm is great, the rest is kinda meh.
Not my favorite by The Doors, but I didn't hate it. Would put it on again as chill background music to a gathering or while I'm cooking dinner. 3/5.
Yeah alright
This was okay. I only liked a few songs.
2 or 3 good/great tunes. The rest is just dreck
Love Riders on the Storm, Love Her Madly is good, don't really like anything else here. 2.5/5
A few outstanding tracks but a bit noodly
I don’t think I’ve heard much by The Doors, but I do like the few songs that I have heard (People Are Strange and Light My Fire are absolute bops). I know they’re a somewhat legendary band, so I’m excited to give an album a full listen. Songs I already knew: Riders On The Storm Favourites: Riders On The Storm I was left feeling a little disappointed by this album. That isn’t to say that it was bad by any means, but the status of The Doors made me expect something incredible. It was a lot more bluesy than I expected, and I didn’t really find any song on here to be as good as the songs I’d mentioned above. Riders On The Storm was fun, and the vocals were generally full of character throughout, but I don’t really expect that I’ll be returning to this album again as it didn’t really blow my socks off.
Honestly kind of meh. 2 good songs and a lot of wanky blues rock played by stoners. It may have been cool at the time, but in the years since it’s been done to death. Past it’s expiration date
I've never been a fan of The Doors so I wasn't too excited to see this one pop up, but I enjoyed it more than I thought! More bluesy than I expected -- really enjoyed Been Down So Long and The WASP, both of which were new to me. Don't think I'll become a big fan but this was a pleasant surprise
L.A. Woman is the sixth album by the American rock band the Doors, and it is the last recordings to feature lead singer Jim Morrison during his lifetime due to his death three months after the album's release. This blues rock album is the band's most heavily influenced by blues and critics liked this and the stripped-down musical performance. This is the Doors most popular album besides their debut album, because the band returned to their blues roots and recorded together in perfect harmony. L.A. Woman is certified 3x platinum in the US. This was a beautifully haunting album as blues can evoke various emotions. The music and singing melded together well, so there weren't any elements missing from the album. The album closes with the nostalgic classic "Riders on the Storm" which I heard many times while playing Need for Speed as a kid. This track had been remixed by Snoop Dogg and added to the soundtrack for Need for Speed Underground 2. I loved listening to the original! Great album.
This felt much more fun and open than the other The Doors album I listened to. The one with Light My Fire on. That was a bit bleak but this one was ok
Listened to this alot when i was younger, loved it more then than i do now but still a pretty enjoyable album for me.
Globalement assez chiant.
Not fully my cup of tea, but there's no denying the musicianship. I actually found I liked a lot of the album tracks better than the popular singles. "The Changeling" is a nice funky intro track -- and "L'America" is a hypnotizing, spooky ditty. But for all intents and purposes, this is still a blues rock album that feels like it goes on a bit too long. A fitting final record, though, for Jim Morrison.
Ikkje lika bra som Morrison Hotel
Fun!
I've never completely enjoyed a Doors album other than their excellent debut, but this is probably the second best. The title track and Riders on the Storm are both fantastic, and Morrison's voice is so rich and powerful across the record, but it just doesn't all hit for me
A band I kind of expected I'd like more than I did, and aso7nd on this album that is a lot less experimental and groovy than I expected from the release year. Underwhelmed but not disappointed.
hippie shit, stick to the classics
its the doors
Good
I loved the last doors album that we go, but this one not as much. It wasn't a bad album by any means, I just didn't connect with any of the songs as much as the prior album. LA Woman I've heard before, and Riders of the Storm is an absolute classic (shout out to Need for Speed: Underground 2 (and Snoop Dogg)) but the rest seemed forgettable to me. We've had worse albums this week, so I'm not going to complain. This was a good album to close out the week.
Nice, another from the Doors! Looks familiar, don't think I'd heard it in full before. Overall, nothing too exceptional, but damn, "Riders on the Storm" is forever one of the greatest songs. What Ray Manzarek does on the keys during the opening of that track, over that bassline and the storm sound effects, it's just really special. Not the most impressive album, but an all-time great song. Love the Doors though. Favorite tracks: Riders on the Storm, LA Woman, Been Down So Long, Cars Hiss By My Window. Album art: I've always loved this one, great color contrast, font, and framing. Very memorable. 3.5/5
Not a Doors fan
Couple of great tracks elevating a lot of 60's psychedelic shite.
Some brilliant songs padded out with blues jams . Close to a 4 but a bit too much filler
Fine, some strong tracks but overall too much of the same.
I don't quite understand consciously why the Doors and Jim Morrison sort of became persona non grata in the music pantheon. But I too have drifted away from this sound which I listened to so much as a pre-teen. I recognize the musical skill and ability, but don't vibe with it much now.
70s rock bands stop making 9 minute songs challenge: impossible. This is actually pretty good, the annoying organ solos are at a minimum and the instrumentation is great. Best tracks: riders on the storm, la woman, been down so long
Never listened to The Doors really. Familiar with Riders on the Storm which is superb, but the rest were unfamiliar to me. Enjoyed it but not one I’d go back to I don’t think.
Yeah doors were always just ok to me.
Not that arsed about this tbh.
Listened Before? N Well, there's no denying that Jim Morrison had an amazing voice, and that these guys were good writers. What they've become... legends... is undoubtedly earned by their music and Jim's behavior. He was a pioneer of shock-rock, and has been labeled a freedom of speech hero by a lot of people. I won't go that far. I think it was narcissism that propelled this band. They produced some undeniably good things, and this album is one of them. Nice mix of long and short songs, pop and acid-drenched ramblers. Pretty decent rock and roll record, but MUCH better things have been made by others. Added to Library? N Songs added to playlist: Crawling King Snake
Meh
The first track is by far the best, The Doors have always sounded great when they hint towards funk. But Jim Morrison is very simply not a good blues singer, he sounds like mud and when the band are carrying throughout.
Very bluesy
Fat, drunk and stupid is no way to front a band, especially one without a bass player.
If songs had smells, you could get a whiff of Jim Morrison's alcoholism on these tracks.
I was just about to give this 2 stars but the Riders on a Storm came on. What an absolute classic
Not so much a fan of the real bluesy Doors stuff but this album has some good songs. I didn't know The Changeling before this listen, it's a cool opening track. The title track is by far the best in my opinion. Aside from the standout tracks I'm not a huge fan of the other songs but I don't hate them either, they're just kind of standard blues rock songs, which I find kind of boring. Standout Tracks: The Changeling, L.A. Woman, Riders On The Storm
The Doorsia parhaimmillaan.
Uh kunnon nostalgiat, tätä tuli luukutettua yli 10v sitten. Alkupuoli edelleen mulle ehkä parasta Doorsia, mutta lopulta vähän epätasainen tämäkin. 3.5/5
Det finns några riktiga godingar där.
This is much better than I remember it being. Pretty much what you'd expect from a Doors album. Has a few dull moments, but overall decent record.
J'aime beaucoup de chansons de The Doors, mais il semble que je me lasse d'un album complet.
The singles definitely stand out, the other songs are a bit forgettable but still enjoyable nonetheless.
better than hotel
I like his raspy voice. I like the riffs also. had me tapping my foot
It was a decent album. I was not expecting this much blues music from The Doors. A couple of songs were recognizable. Riders on the Storm did not need to be 7 minutes long. The album wasn't that long though.
I don’t like the doors a lot
Its me Aubrey Drake Graham, I enjoyed this album. RIP VON
4 good songs one of which is way over-rated (Riders). Much of it is pretty pedestrian blues-rock. 3 🌟
I never really could get into The Doors. Riders on the Storm is good, but many of the other songs are generic typical early 70s Blues-Rock affairs. This was obviously very influencial in it's time, but for me it falls flat. Very mixed 2.5/5
3 The Doors are an artist I used to really enjoy in high school but have found myself listening to less and less as I've grown older. I still believe Jim Morrison has one of the best and most iconic voices of rock, though I don't think the direction of this album highlights that compared to some of the band's previous work. I don't mind the blues approach, but I think it's a step down in comparison to the sound of the band's earlier work, especially their debut, which I find to be a much better album. Riders on the Storm is a great track and closer though. Favorite songs: Riders on the Storm, L.A. Woman, Hyacinth House
L.A. Woman is the last good Doors album. I could attribute this to the death of Jim Morrison, who played a pivotal role as the band's frontman. Bluesy through and through. There's definitely highlights and lowlights here. The title track is a great one, but the slow tension of Riders on the Storm really gets me. Songs like L'America and Car Hiss By My Window, on the other hand, are too plain and meandering to warrant discussion. It's good but it's definitely not the Doors at their best.
OK... I don't think this is their best (to me)
Not as good as Morrison Hotel, but still solid
For some reason I thought the Doors had one legendary breakthrough album, flattered to deceive for a short while, then (Jim) died. This album dispelled those thoughts in a couple of ways: firstly, turns out they made 6 albums together! And secondly, some of their later work is actually quite good. A few tracks are pretty basic, uninspired blues rock, and sometimes the jams last too long without going anywhere, but I kinda like them anyway. And when they really decide to knuckle down and focus they created gems like Love Her Madly and Riders on the Storm (Ok, the latter is also long and doesn’t go anywhere, but it’s still great - I don’t make the rules). 3 / 3.5
5/10. Kinda boring, but not bad
😴 5/10
Fave tracks: Love Her Madly, L.A. Woman (even thought it's almost 8 minutes long), Hyacinth House, Riders on the Storm (best track)
I would spend up to $7 for a used copy. The hits are hits for a reason. Spaced out in the tracklisting like mileposts. Riders on the storm is a mood. Hyacinth House plods. Don't understand the Doors/Jimbo hate. Good band. 48 minutes, maybe a song too long. Cover art is meh.
Just ok. L.A. Woman song was dope though.
Good album if you love blues rock, I would highly recommend it in that aspect. Best song for me was been down so long, and riders on the storm is such a classic!
I like hyacinth house
3.5
Durchwachsen. Nachdem ich "The Doors" so gelobt hatte, muss ich zugeben, dass ich auf dieser Platte nur das unvermeidliche Riders On The Storm so richtig geil fand, der Rest geht so. Schlechte drei Sterne.
isn't that great but you also get why people love it
an album where i didn't realize i knew so many songs! i'm definitely surprised by the blues aspect of this album. they do a great job with the blues, though it mostly isn't for me. hearing the blues aspect of their album was surprising, considering i only ever associated the doors with psychedelic rock.
I wasn't as familiar with this Doors album, save for the bigger hits. Most of the album was okay, a few of the tracks were GREAT. These bigger hits (Love Her Madly, L.A. Woman, and Riders on the Storm) are all outstanding, amazing tracks, and I was hoping for similar from the rest of the album. That said, I don't think any other song on the album quite held up to this trinity. I think these three tracks are highly reminiscent of their first album works, and maybe that's why. For me, the song that came closest to hitting the same level of greatness as the album's trinity was The Changeling. A great album from The Doors. I would say this particular album falls into "like", but not quite "love".
I went in thinking I would love this more than I did. A couple gems and I love this band, but the album didn’t blow me away.
It was pretty good especially a few of the more blues rock songs. I generally really like this era of music, but this was just ok.
I went for a long drive and listened to the Doors from a cliff overlooking the Bay and San Francisco. It was just the right music. This is pretty tunesome blues throughout and has a great allegory for the title track. I didn't even notice how long it was. Not a perfect album but a great vibe, soup to nuts, and several permanent takeaways.
Not bad not bad.
Riders on the Storm is just such a great tune. The Changeline certainly kicks off in an unexpeted, for me, way. Love Her Madly is cetainly one of their more popular songs as well. Overall though it doesn't really grab me, just a nice listen.
I have to admit, I'm not one of those people who really understands the appeal of The Doors. I did my best to keep an open mind (or an open door, heh heh) listening to this album, but it just isn't my thing. To me, the Doors are like the Stones without the sex appeal, the Beatles without the legendary songwriting, Queen without the bombastic and impressive vocals. They're a good band to be sure, but to me they're missing an extra ingredient that really qualifies them as genuine legends. The Doors are highly listenable but also highly boring. Sorry to say it, but it's true, you Doorks.
Classics on the album. Not bad, not great.
Psychedelic blues rock. Yum! The band sounds effortlessly clean and tight-knit across the entire album. They show they can still deliver some crazed energy on tracks like 'Been down so Long' and 'L'America', but where they really shine are on the cool and casual tracks like 'Cars Hiss by My Window', 'Crawling King Snake', and 'Riders on the Storm'.
Already listened
Its a return to the Doors blues roots. Changeling has some of that magic that brought this group to superstardom. Love Her Madly is another catchy tune. But we hit Cars Hiss By My Window and things slow waaay down. L.A. Woman is a good tune. L'America is bullshit. Snake King and WASP are bullshit. Riders Of The Storm makes no sense as to why it's as big a hit as it is.
It was alright, I didn't enjoy it as much as I thought I would. Riders On The Storm is my favourite.
This just wasn't overall that fantastic. The Doors are great when they're doing their "dark take on psychedelic" thing - see riders on the storm for the perfect example of that. But only a couple of songs on this had that vibe. The rest was this "attempting the delta blues" sorta thing that honestly didn't work. I can see what they were aiming for, but Morrison didn't really have the grit in his voice. Funnily enough, I guess it wasn't until Danzig that a white singer got that style right (that I've heard), and Danzig was obviously ripping Morrison off. Either way, the Doors should've stuck to the spooky Beatles angle. 3/5 for love her madly and riders on the storm.
Love the Doors but there are better albums than this of theirs. Listening to this particular album it gels well but seldom gets beyond 2nd base apart from the 3 hits.
First half was great, but the second half was more aimless.
I'm not a huge door's fan. I feel their psych rock up Jim Morrison's asshole is overwrought and oversold. However, the first half of this album slaps. The funky James Brown inspired groove on the opener had me rethinking my whole outlook. Ray Manzarek's Hammond work is rad. Then the second half of the album hits, and this becomes a solid 50% for me. I know the classics are on this, and it's Morrison's final album, but on a one-time listen, I'd give it 3 stars. With repeated listens, the second half may grow on me.
Solid blues album that earns an extra star for Riders of the Storm. Too many songs that run long though and a squeaky drum pedal on the Changeling doesn't help.
I liked it more than I expected. Love Her Madly, probably my favorite Doors song.
In progress - took a day off to go to a gig but will write about this at a later date
Decent album by the doors. Always felt Jim Morrison was highly praised more so because he died young. This album has some good songs. Heavy blues rock style. Raiders on the storm is a great song. Pretty average overall. 6.6/10
Never been a huge fan of The Doors, this album is as good as any of the others I heard. A few nice songs and I can see why others like them.
The Doors aren't bad, but they're certainly overrated. They've got some good singles, but who the hell wants to sit through their full albums?
I don't really get The Doors. The slow and thick psychedelic sounds don't impress me a lot. But I knew and liked some of their bluesy hits - most notably "People are Strange" and one of the singles from this album, "Love Her Madly." This album is described as the band's "most blusey," so I think it'll be good. Aaaand... it's not that bad. It has two distinguishable sides, the LA Woman side and the Riders on the Storm side. The LA Woman side is bluesy. I like the first three tracks. And the last track, the title track, is pretty okay but the lengthy build-up bored me. The Riders on the Storm side is pretty interesting. It's a much trippier than the previous half. And while it has the slick psychedelic sound that I disliked, its interesting at some parts. The iconic closer is chill and trippy, and I guess that's why a lot of people love the band. But personally, it's pretty boring. Overall, pretty good and interesting. Btw, was that really Jim Morrison? His voice here is much rougher than I remember.
Totally overrated band but this was a good album. Made me think I’d relisten to their other stuff now too.
Nothing that special, in no hurry to listen to again.
hmmmm.
nice album, but can´t beat the first one
This is becoming a tired refrain but again: if you're boiling half a century worth if pop, punk, hip hop, rock, plus a smattering of jazz, country, and world music down to 1K+1... I just can't justify multiple Doors entries - and I LIKE the Doors. And this one... despite some great songs it also displays some of Morrison's lazy phone in efforts. The blues retreads in particular are pure filler.
Not really my style kind of slow and felt boring Rating: 5/10
This isn't the best music from the doors that I've heard, but it still sounded like the doors through and through. Fav: riders on the storm
Maybe the best doors? Almost a 4... almost.
Knew a few songs, I don't really know the Doors and the album was alright but won't stick with me
Good stuff, more bluesy than I remembered.
Hey it's the Doors... Moody and brooding blues and rock. Good speed and energy without being overwhelming and a couple of solid hits. It's good. A lot of the same thing. Probably wouldn't listen through the whole thing again.
3, it's fine. I was pretty into it at first but it kind of drug on. I definitely do like this era of music, but I'm finding I need variety to really enjoy it. An entire album from the same band gets to be a bit much of the same sound over and over, I need the variety of different bands from the era. What a baller move though to put your biggest hit as the LAST track on the album, eh?
Good ish
Some classics, some basics. I like it better than the other one we listened to. But really, this band will always be one I associate more with movies than with the music itself. And now I’m sitting here thinking I should go look up some Doors review by Lester Bangs because of Phillip Seymour Hoffman and I’m a go do that. Peace.
Nice
Good album, but a bit samey. Not a huge fan of the organ being so prominent on all the songs, but that happens when you have an organist. Good vocals, often bizarre lyrics, largely unexciting music
I like a little bit
A recognisable and cool sound
Bit disappointing, some funky bits but the singing on some tracks was quite droney.
Interesting! Sounds like all the corner blues players on the streets and in bars. Singer was not that great, but this was the 70s.
riders of the storm, btw.
Some great songs (Love her madly, LA Woman, Riders on the storm). Not enough to make it a great album.
great porch/crusin music.
A good blues album, the band sounds so tight and connected musically, but not exactly the album to best represent the doors.
Surprisingly boring, basic blues rock, little guitars, not very catchy
3.5/5 some good, some bad, i'll have to relisten
By his final album Jim Morrison is sounding weathered and this album is all the better for it. The Door have went for a pure blues album - including a more than decent Johnny Lee Hooker cover - and to be honest it doesn’t always work. LA woman and Riders of the Storm are epic, incredible songs, the later in particular still capable or raising the hairs on the back of my neck with every listen. But on the whole this is a bit patchy and not a good as their debut. An album with great songs, but not a great album.
Great listen when I was in high school. Less so now.
not bad
Didn't really enjoy this one
ah the Doors, liked but never loved except the debut. This one is second fave but penalized one star for overplaying of Riders on the Storm makes 3.5 🌟
More 70s pseudo-blues. Meh.
MMMMMMMMMbop Morrison. Bra. Bästa låt: Riders on the Storm, vafan tror du?
Un poco repetitivo, muy clásico, me gustó
I will jave to listen again, I wasn't focused enough.
3/5 - I never much cared for the doors
It was ok. Didn’t rock my world.
I like how bluesy this is. I know the couple hit songs from this and like them a lot, but was surprised by how rough Jim Morrison's voice is on much of the album. All the hits I've heard usually aren't so gravelly.
It was a solid album, I definitely liked the folksy and bluesy blend of styles.
Good Bluesy album. The Doors are overrated I think, and I believe that mostly has to do with the cult following of the personality of Jim.
Not gonna lie, nothing really jumped out to me. Judge me Maurers.
Doors-album i varierende kvalitet.
I know some songs from the Doors, but have never been through an entire album in one sitting. I enjoyed it but it was nothing to write home about. croon out of 5
good
The doors are Way more “jam band” than I realized
Another awesome album. Classic doors, exactly what you'd expect.
not my favorite Doors
Not a Doors fan.
Music
LA Woman the song is very long...Pretty low energy smooth jamming
Not bad but I'm not big on the slow 70's rock sound
overall solid sound, riders on the storm is a classic, but overall too bluesy for my taste
Pretty good
Meh, never really got the doors
Good, favorite songs The Channeling, stereotypically 70s rock. Catchy, hypnotic songs laid back vibe. Liked it a lot but didn't love it. 6/8.
some good dirty, smelly, filthy rock and roll
its alright but maybe not really my tasteor just not the right mood
First listen whatever tbh didn't finish the album. maybe i'll come back to it
Hard Blues Rock. I like the genre, and I can appreciate everything they do technically, but the guy's voice and the overall 'sound' aren't my favourite. The lead guitar solos are consistently good though
Some good tracks (“Hyacinth House,” “L’America,” title track), but rarely captures what was great and cool about them in the first place (“Riders On the Storm”).
I remember this being better
Bu albümden daha çok keyif alıyorum. Şu anda üçüncü şarkıdayım. Bayağı relate ettim. I’ve been down so long yni… Tam şu an yormaya basladi (la woman) Yani güzel albümdü de bilmiyorum. Ben çok burada değilim kafasal olarak
Be Down So Long На цьому альбомі ще є Riders On The Storm.
Not as good as I remembered it being ... probably because I haven't heard the full album since I was about 14, when my Doors fandom pretty much peaked.
I've never been a fan of The Doors, although "Riders on the Storm" has always been the one song of theirs I generally liked. I'm trying to listen to this without those prejudices, and also to decide what it is that pushes me away. I think it's Jim Morrison's voice that doesn't fit for me. I like the blues, and the idea of Los Angeles as a woman to sing about is appealing in the title track. I very much dislike the whole "Mr. Mojo Risin'" thing that Morrison does to make it all about him.
I didn’t hate it
Awesome to see someone else reference Tom Scharpling and The Best Show on this Doors album. He made me appreciate how hilariously bad Jim Morrison's vocals were. It's drunk uncle karaoke.
2 1/2
It’s ok
the changeling - 2.8/5? love her madly - 3.2/5 been down so long - 2.8/5 cars hiss by my window - 2.3/5 L.A. woman - 3.5/5 L'America - 2.3/5 hyacinth house - 2.8/5? crawling king snake - 2/5 the WASP - 1/5 riders on the storm - 2.5/5
2/5 Favorite Song: Riders on the Storm
Fave songs -love her madly -been down so long -car hiss by my window Vibe -hot dusty road side bar -sticky wooden bar tables -cigarettes and beer I like the album, I don’t love it but it has some good songs, also not really into blues so it just felt repetitive for me,I love the atmosphere though I love the imagine it paints in my head, don’t really see my self comming back to the album but will definitely save my favourites Rating 5/10
I do not remember The Doors sounding like this, but then again, I do not really remember what The Doors sound like
I mean, it’s The Doors. I’m not really a fan.
Never been a Doors guy, and I still don't love Riders On The Storm or the titular track, but I found a new appreciation here for the bluesier stuff.
ok, some songs were good the rest just sounded like people fucking around in the studio, not like complete songs
Was alright. Could’ve rounded up to 3 but I’m not going to as Love Her Madly sounded like Ringo Starr and then that’s all I could hear throughout. Riders on the Storm is a great ending though.
I just can’t get into these guys
Repetitive and dull, but with a banger here and there.
# The Doors L.A Woman by the doors is an album that feels like it takes so much inspiration from blues and rock yet has none of the punch. The reason why the greatest hits by the doors is much better than the actual discography. There is a lot of filler here so much so that I could not name a song besides love her madly L.a Woman and Riders. Quite list of amazing songs but this an album and as an album it’s held together by the blues theme that falls apart once every single song bleeds together. I listened to it sober and high and both didn’t click. The WASP was a cool concept and the voice of Jim Morrison and his story is cool and this being the last record it’s seen more fondly but if this is the extension of their sound which is just simple blues riffs then the only reason this is even popular is because of death just makes this record okay. Listen to the hits instead this isn’t a crafted experience it’s songs that sound the same mixed in with some of the greatest songs ever. Take 10 Riders of the storm is an iconic line and creates a beautiful song. I hear alot of geese Hiyacinth house for example the guitar riffs and melody scream geese. I like the organ on l’America as well. I’m interested in this band and Jim Morrison has a Zach Bryan song to him that feels familiar. Truly gone too soon I would have loved to have heard the evolution of this sound but for now we are left with this listen to the singles and greatest hits instead you’ll find more of the doors you’re looking for.
The album sounds just fine. Probably the best shot at singing and playing the blues I've heard so far by one of these 60s/70s white guy bands. But, I am getting a little tired of retreading the commercialization of blues music and calling it something I gotta hear before I die while omitting the originators. Same seems to be happening with jazz, funk and soul on this list. One James Brown album and it's the Apollo performance years before most of his landmark hits. No Louis Armstrong, but that shitty Tom Waits album where he's doing a bad Louis Armstrong voice w/ a trio backing him. Coltrane's Giant Steps, representing another seminal breakthrough in music in the form of Coltrane changes, is missing but the Boo Radleys (tf?) album named after it is here. Barf. Anyway, this album is alright. Just getting a little tired of that same story on this list, so that probably colors my opinion more than it would have been otherwise. I think I'm feeling a 2.5. Hyacinth House and Changeling (James Brown...) are the highlights.
Not really my thing
I had no idea the Doors sounded like this. It's bluesy, but also very much stealing from black music. Also surprise N word drop (not THAT one), Growly white people that hardly sing, meh. 2*
It's fine. Most the tracks have something fun going on musically. L'America and The WASP are terrible.
First song was great, had a little bit of a dance to it, and then it's like all the energy got sucked out of them for the rest of the album. Got bored, skipped one song, but listened to the rest. Not my vibe at all by the end.
the doors are kind of boring
Bref.
its a rock n roll album and unfortunately kinda not for me feeling like poser bc my favorite track was riders on the storm
I do not like Jim Morrison at all really.
2,4/5 Riders on the storm ist ganz cool, der Rest ist meh.
Riders on the Storm is a great song, and perhaps the greatest version of The Doors there is. But unfortunately this album filled with a lot of the lame white guy hipster 1960s blues jams that are at best grating.
So......The Doors. I still like Riders on the Storm, but otherwise I really can't tolerate Jim Morrison at this point. I can't put my finger on what it is about his voice or his swagger or whatever it is, but I just feel like he's always acting like a jerk in my speakers. I'm sure it would have been wild to be Jim Morrison for a week in the 60s, but in 2026 I'll take a pass. 2.49 stars.
I'm so grateful this is the last Doors album I have to hear for this project, because what a fucking slog. It's not just that Jim Morrison is a buffoon—especially during this, his Fat Elvis era—but I genuinely dislike the music, the bluesier songs in particular. I appreciate the moody atmosphere of "Riders on the Storm" and its inverse, the concise, poppy "Love Her Madly," but I have no plans to return to any of the Doors' music. Good riddance, dudes. It just wasn't meant to be.
Sure, everything is a remix. But. This felt more like a regurgitation of the music that came before it than anything else. Maybe this felt innovative and groundbreaking to people at the time, but I didn't particularly care for it. I preferred the other Doors album that's on this list. So far one star has been four albums that I really wanted to dnf this is a little better than that so it's truly two stars.
Partially known. A couple of good songs, but otherwise uninteresting.
A minute or so into listening to this, Siri cut in to tell me that if I needed help it could call my emergency contacts for me. Part of me thought that was some ironic foreshadowing. It wasn't, but this thing was just kinda terribly meh. Nothing jumped out at me besides just how consistent The Doors sound is across their work.
Not really a huge doors fan
Paar goede nummers, goede bluese tinten. Verder vind ik deze band iets overrated. Ik heb er niet van genoten.
