Despite my interest in Latin music, salsa ain't for me, apparently. I can't follow anything as I listen. It's kind of confusing. Not my kind of groove.
Just not a fan of Latin tunes.
I'll do the chicken fajitas please. Black please Flour. Thank you!
What sinks this album for me is the track length. The instrumentals and vox are well-executed and pleasant, but wear quite thin after 5-7 minutes. I'm sure being able to follow the narrative would make things a bit more interesting, but my Spanish is way too rusty to keep up here.
Not really a fan of this one.
I can appreciate the talent, just not my vibe. It did make me want to watch West Side Story tho
👎
Sorry, but once you've heard one salsa track, you've heard them all. This is just dance music, and I expect it's very good for dancing to - but I don't dance so it's no use to me. I prefer to listen to music.
It was very hard for me to discriminate as to why this is a standout probably owing to my lack of deep exposure to this genre. To me it sounded like every other album of the type that I've heard at restaurants and clubs. Pleasant, but nothing special.
Although this wasn't a "bad" album, Salsa really isn't my jam, after a few songs it becomes annoyingly repetitive for me.
Just couldn’t connect with this. Pleasant, super competent music. It just doesn’t mean anything to me unfortunately. It’s dance music and demands too much attention to be background.
It was okay.
I’m not used to listening to salsa music but certain songs were very enjoyable to listen to while I cleaned today
2.5. It's good for what it is....
It's a salsa album. Don't particularly like salsa music, but it was a decent album
did not listen
The first song was great, but from there it tailed off for me.
Great beat, streaks of funk. Songs are repetitive. Love the West Side Story inclusion
i'm never typing willy colon in to google ever again. 😳 More Nando's background music. nice enough to have on in the background but doesn't grab the attention.
Album cover SHARK would be all over, the big nonce. It was just a bit annoying to be honest. Did not make me cum.
Nicht meine Richtung. Meh.
some ok bits but not really my jam
Was okay
Idk how this will affect my list but this is one of the first ones I rated
Loving listening to different musical styles. This one just wasn’t for me.
Found boring. Nuf said. D+
Too wild
Azteca background music. I'm sorry
Was ok
Good music but not my style.
2/5 world music sucks
Sorry samba people… I just don’t like it!
Not for me but some grooves. 2
Not my kind of music, it all sort of blurred together. I'm sure I would have liked it more if I understood Spanish. Favorite Track: Plastico
Salsa, lots of salsa. Apparently the best selling salsa album ever. Ok.
Good
Hard to rate these one, like their from the same rib. That slapping bass in the first track needed to endure a bit more throughout
Mwah, not so great. But I don’t like Spanish music that much
Didn’t enjoy
not bad but gave up
Colon and Blades sounds like the name of a bitchin' death metal act. But they're not. It's salsa. I'm sure it's pleasant enough if you're on some beach but I'm not. And I don't like the beach much anyway. Best Tracks: Plastico; Buscando Guayaba; Pedro Navaja
It’s ok, nandos/Mexican restaurant vibes
It was okay for what it was. Not for me personally
Mid
Turns out Samba is not for me
Nestled nicely between Grateful Dead and ZZ Top…
I’d not heard this previously and it wasn’t for me I’m afraid - one star. Tom
I’m so sorry, this is really not for me. I’ve played far too much of the game series Tropico to critically engage with this music genre. it’s not you, it’s me Willie Colon* & Ruben Blades I also don’t like slap bass. (*there’s a really childish lowbrow joke there, I’m not making that. awful. Barely a joke. just rude. pathetic.
p414. 1978. 1 star. The only salsa I like is as a dip for tortilla chips. This might have done better if I were on a beach in Rio de Janeiro, but on a cold grey wet day in Stoke this album loses most of its appeal. Hard pass from me.
I just don't like salsa. This album could be a nuanced, musical masterpiece, but my ears would never be able to hear it.
Siembra by Willie Colón and Rubén Blades is really not my kind of music. Salsa with touches of jazz just doesn’t do much for me personally. That said, if it wasn’t for this challenge I would never have listened to an album like this, so I can appreciate the opportunity to experience something completely different. There were moments that sounded familiar, especially Plástico and Buscando Guayaba, which I’m sure I must have heard somewhere before. But after listening to the full album, one of my main takeaways was that a lot of the songs blended together for me stylistically. The album is clearly very well produced, and the musicianship is excellent throughout. You can tell how talented everyone involved is, and I understand why this album is considered important within Latin music. It just doesnt work for me. I found it quite long, repetitive and difficult to stay engaged with by the end. I do respect the international side of this challenge though, because albums like this push me into genres and cultures I would never normally explore. Even when I don’t enjoy them, it’s still interesting to hear something outside my usual taste. Favourite tracks: Plástico was quite a nice track. Least favourite tracks: Nothing was terrible, it just wasn’t really for me. Album artwork: A bizarre album cover, it looks like a colourful cartoon advert for Pampers.
nah
horrible
4/25 Bleh. I really hate spanish music. Especially salsa music
Just dull
Trying really hard to be objective here despite my inclination to try to find and focus on positive aspects of the music, but I have to admit that I frankly do not care for or about this album. I'm sure it's good if you're into the genre since it's on this list (and the musicians were talented), but listening to it for me was such a slog that I finally broke my rule about listening to everything all the way through. The energy and overall tone was consistent to a fault, which made the long track times feel like a chore. A few minutes into Maria Lionza I decided I'd give each song an honest attempt for 60+ seconds, but it was obvious based on the rest of the album that if I didn't care for the first minute I wouldn't care for the rest of the track so I gave myself permission to skip at that point. I ended up skipping each of the remaining songs after that attempt. And honestly I typically like this sort of thing, but I just wasn't getting hooked by any of it. Unfortunately it's gonna be a one-star for me.
So so so bad
No idea if this is good or not as am not from south America.
Lively, well-oiled grooves built from bright brass lines, busy percussion, rolling piano figures, and clear, narrative vocals move this salsa album like a beautifully organized dance hall—perfectly suited for motion and social energy, yet as listening music it feels too functional to invite deeper attention.
Not for me at all!
Alright for some...but not for me
This is a very mediocre salsa album. I will say though that it is representative of the genre but plain and boring.
Flawless perfection
I couldn’t get into it. DNF
bing bong fuck this album 1/5
no
Salsa. Nej tack. PTSD. Uscha.
Ok I've been through few salsa and samba albums now. I listened to every one of them all the way through. And I've concluded that - yeah this shit is not for me.
Latin, Salsa & Trombone No Thank You
A nice change of direction in my first taste of salsa & my first taste of Spanish in this project. The music is bright & shiny and warm, very inviting initially. I just wish I spoke Spanish as the lyrics are clearly a key part of this, there to be learnt & sung along to but I can’t understand them so all that is lost on me. The salsa music sets a wonderful atmosphere but if you can’t understand the lyrics then it soon becomes directionless. After a while it becomes showbizzy and starts to grate. To be clear though this is not the LPs fault that I do not speak Spanish that is my fault & problem & a reminder of how anglicised culture has become. I can see how important this music & these lyrics must be to so many people but I have to mark it low based on how it makes me feel. And I feel I really want it to end as it’s going around in circles but I see if you’re dancing then salsa would be tribal trance. But for me salsa is just one of the worst musical genres.
I didn't even notice when this ended and went to shuffle. Like Phyl, on a different day I may have taken this in more.
Spanish discoish?
Sounds like generic salsa and basically means nothing to me unfortunately due to the language barrier.
Nah
nah
No entiendo
Geef me gewoon Engelse muziek aub
Not for me
Not my stuff
Spanish, salsa, disco, funk album. Not my thing but they do play well together
Artiste inconnu. =>1/5
Not really my type of music
no my style
Not for me
Not for me
Didn’t listen
Neibb
Not my thing. Unlistenable.
This might be the best of this genre, I just couldn't connect with it.
No
Well, this one is a bit boring. Restaurant music.
I don’t like traditional vibes
Not a fan of salsa
“this album was good” - said nobody ever “this album belongs on this list” - said nobody ever
Vem fan lyssnar på salsa?
Salsa can be annoying, sometimes. Sometimes, very much so.
This sounds like noise as it’s not in English. Sounds like I’m at a Mexican Restaurant not my kind of music.
Meh
Started off with a great song but others fell flat even though i didn't understand the language. The instrumental on the first song were amazing. The vocals were good too, I guess.
If salsa music does it for you, then I imagine that this album will really do it for you. For me? If you listen to any 5-second segment of any of the tracks, then you've basically heard the entire album.
dont like
If Willie Colon and Ruben Blades were to fuck, their offspring would be an ugly shitehawk with a cleft lip and a big old elephant cock. It would barely pass as human and would be the kind of child old women would audibly gasp at as they watch him masturbating. I'll let you decide whether that means the child is masturbating or the old women are. Maybe it's both.
I got 3 tracks in and couldn’t believe I wasn’t near the end of the album. This is inoffensive but I wouldn’t sit and deliberately listen to it again.
Not my type of music. Being in Spanish also made it harder for me to follow. Might be good if I’m drunk.
Not my kind of music at all. It may be a genre masterpiece, but my listening enjoyment says 1/5.
Interesting. Not only did I not like the music, it actually managed to make me... Kind of angry? The visualizer for the song "Buscando Guayaba" might have an influence on this, except there's nothing explicitely infuriating about that one either...? I think the kind of harmonies and chord progressions used also played a part. Doesn't look like anyone else here had the same experience.... Either way, I had to force myself to keep listening.
Not my genre
Didn’t like this one
