Ok background music
liked songs: the intro to Bluebird Wine Emmylou Harris has a very good voice. This is, objectively, a good album with good music. I really did want to like this, but the country/folk on this album is really not for me. 2.25
Yeah. OK. It's good. Typical of the time. Beautiful voice. Lots of covers.
Not quite for me but OK
I liked it for what it is, just not my style in general
Generic
I gave a 2 because the album was well-crafted, I'm sure. But this just isn't my genre. I have not yet developed an ear for serious country music but I'm working on it.
Harris has a great voice, no doubt. The musicians are first rate. Even the lyrics are good (Dolly Parton! Shel Silverstein!?) But this record just feels like it has no soul to me.
I liked her voice. The music wasn't my thing.
Snooze fest.
Hmm.. Beautiful voice, you can’t take that away from Emmylou Harris, but then here we are stuck in old school country land, with all its sugar coated elements.. like the strings on the slower tunes. Too much for my taste
Music that sounds like classic 70s singer. Somehow they all sound very similar.
I liked this country album even though country isn't my hallmark genre of music. Cool to see the roots of that movement in the 70s and her voice is beautiful
Country und ich, das wird nichts mehr
The only song from this I knew before was Coat of Many Colours; I would say this version is up there with Dolly’s. The rest of the album is fine, nothing-special country music.
Another example of very well made country that, for whatever reason, really leaves me cold. I'm starting to think I'm just not white enough to enjoy country. It starts off very bluegrass-y, which I enjoyed, but turned into the sort of thing I absolutely expected from an Emmylou Harris album... not my fave, notwithstanding the emotional gutpunch that Coat of Many Colours always is. Faves: Coat of Many Colours
I get why some people may like it, but this is not for me.
Nice voice, but Country.
Gear: Meze 109 PRO Artwork: 👼🏻👩🏻🦱🟧 Production: 😐🙂👌 Music: 🌽🌍😢 Rating: 🌽🌽/5
She has a nice voice but I really didn’t like this.
As far as Country goes, it's not bad. That's a low marker though
No private session used for Spotify, familiar with the name, but not the work. Country, honky tonk twangy country. The type of country I don't like.
i didn't hate listening to this and even enjoyed it a little which has to be something of merit considering how much country is just not for me, doesn't leave a lasting impression on me though and that's perfectly fine
She has a good voice but the country/Americana thing isn't my jam. I can see why people like it but sorry folks. Not for me.
Harris is clearly a talented vocalist, but the album is filled with too many standard and average approaches to country music for the era. It’s pleasant while it’s on and despite having a few great tracks, the album leaves no lasting impact
I enjoyed it, although I don' think I will come back to it after two listens. She's got a good voice, but something feels missing. I'd really like this if it had a bit more bite. I don't want to say that every artist needs to write their own songs to be great, but with this kind of music, I think a bit of the emotion is lost.
Pleasant
It sounded good, but I don't like country and I didn't really see the point of this album.
nett, country. bin nicht so fan.
Very standard and uninteresting country.
First nice then go down
was fine, I liked her cover of "For no one" but not something I will need to listen to again I don't think.
1. blue bird - 1.5 2. gone - 1.5 3. love - 1 4. boulder - 1.5 5. believing - 1.5 6. bottle - 1.5 7. nightz - 1.5 8. colorz - 1 9. no one - 1 10. zilver dollar - 1 11. lefty - 1 12. cotton fieldz - 1
Calm, relaxing vibes but not for me. Not one of my preferred genres and a bit of a chore to get through. Voice and guitar was decent though. Highlights: Boulder to Birmingham
It seems like an artist I might like, but the album felt really dated and monotonous. I think there was more boredom to it than actual enjoyment...
boring country
After I think a hundered non-country albums I got to this one. Emmylou Harris has a nice voice, but it's still country music so... nahh... 2.5/5.
Harris has a fantastic voice, but this version of country to just to old timey for me to get behind. She’s talented, Boulder to Birmingham is a great song, but this ain’t for me. 4.7/10
This is at least the fourth album heavily featuring Emmylou Harris to come up, and her vocal ability hasn’t been in question in any of them. Her voice and the lush production make it a consistently listenable and sometimes enjoyable record, though for me it loses impetus after the first track. Ultimately however it’s a ragtag bunch of covers (plus one original), so I can’t justify scoring it above a 2.5.
Boulder to Birmingham is a brilliant, sad tune. I like Before Believing as well, with more quiet guitar and piano. Emmylou's voice certainly takes center stage. Most of the rest is probably too country for me, although I like her versions of Coat of Many Colors and For No One. I'm stuck on ** because I don't really want to listen to this all the way through again, but glad to have found Boulder to Birmingham.
Pretty voice, respect thr talent. But not my vibe
Levy alkaa hyvin, mutta pidemmälle tultaessa alkaa selvitä, missä määrin Coat of Many Colors:in kritiikitön kornius määrittää artistin kokemusta todellisuudesta. Ja mitä siinä yhdessä biisissä sanottiin...?
I couldn't listen to the whole thing. Kind of soft country music I guess, seemed very normal to me, nothing special.
Bit too old school country for me. Liked a couple of tracks
I feel bad giving this one a 2, but it is just too twangy for me. I enjoyed the slow piano ballads when her country accent wasn't as strong. The Beatles cover was my favorite. But there were too many up beat twangy songs for me to give this a 3.
Was thinking about rating this 3 stars, but for me it is inoffensive country. Queen of the Silver Dollar was more lively and the cover of For No One was interesting.
I like female singers, classic country, and feeling blue, so I cannot for the life of me explain why I hated this so much. So so much.
No escucho pero me la achucho.
Usually, I use Deezer to listen to the album I get here on the 1001 list, and they have already started to suggest country music to me. Please make them stop. I beg you! Given that, I liked her voice.
Might be biased as I think the genre is shit, but this list has an overabundance of US country music. It's strange as it also has an overabundance of British rock, which I don't mind as a genre. But why those two genres? If the list is made by one person it's very bizarre to love two genres that have zero overlap. Anyway, naff. Somehow butchered a Beatles song. Congrats 1.5*
Not my favourite
more like 2.5 could i write poetry to this? n
I'm not a fan of country, and this album is no difference to that rule. A very basic Americana-like country singer, and listening to her is just a little too much of a chore.
Pleasant-sounding but boring.
Dolly Fartin’. 4/10
She is an immense talent, and her harmonies are so perfect. . . and I don't care for the music.
Levyn kuuntelu aiheutti enemmän mielipahaa kuin -hyvää. Puuduttava.
No tää oli tätä kantrii
I didn’t like it. It was country and even though it wasn’t the gross modern country I still didn’t like it. She had a nice voice though, but it was boring.
Great voice, just not a fan of country music
Country, not my favorite genre, but this sounds really good. The more quiet numbers are really not piece of cake, but the more up-tempo songs are good. **
She has a very nice voice but I have little else to say about this. I don't think I could've told the difference between this and a Dolly Parton record, it's all a bit samey
I can see why this is good, but its not good to my ears 2
I know she’s great, even almost revered is some circles, but this album did little for me.
Muy Country para mi estilo
Another completely new artist for me! I should mention that when people use to ask me "What kind of music do you listen to?" I used to answer "Everything but Country" so this album has an uphill battle for me. I'd like to think that I can appreciate good music across the board but we'll see. Overall, as far as country music goes, it was sweet and pleasant. I just would never seek this out. I wouldn't complain and ask it to be changed if someone else put it on. If you had just played this and not told me what it was, I would have guessed Dolly Parton. I respect it but it isn't for me. Track reactions: 1. For some reason the first 5 seconds made me think of Adele - Rolling in the Deep. Anywho, moving on the actual song. Certainly has a country or more specifically Dolly Parton sound. 2. Very sweet song. Not really something I would gravitate to personally. 3. Another sweet song (this time a duet). Exact same reaction from me. 4. I like how aspirational/hopeful the tone is. 5. Such a gentle sweet tone. If I had a baby to put to sleep... 6. OK. Now this is the country that I really don't like. That simple repetitive strumming just gets on my nerves. It feels like every song like this is the same song. 7. Another gentle sweet one. 8. I think this is a cover. I like it just as much as the original I think so kudos there. 9. Definitely a cover. I know a Beatles song when I hear it. This is an interesting take. It would probably work well on a movie soundtrack for an appropriately toned scene. 10. I like how this one picks up the tempo and gets you foot tapping about 2/3rds of the way through. 11. Another example of the type of country that turns me away. 12. A fine track that's got a bit of blue-grass feel with some banjo. I dig the banjo.
not my thing. couple good songs tho
Not my cup of tea.
It's fine
I’ve possibly said this before, but I’m surprised to see so much country music considered to be essential listens. My mum, dad and sister like it, but I literally don’t know a single other person that listens to country. It’s possibly because I’m in the UK and it seems to be more of an American thing. It’s just surprising. Songs I already knew: none Favourites: Coat Of Many Colors This was ok. I could appreciate the sweet vocals and the lovely harmonies. It could occasionally feel more like a folk album at times, and I think this is where I enjoyed it more. If I squint my ears, I could maybe convince myself it was Joni Mitchell for a second or two. Otherwise, the country genre just isn’t really for me. Each to their own, but there are very few country tracks that has peaked my interest.
Lovely voice. Unsure how I feel about an album full of cover songs, (with the exception of "Boulder to Birmingham"). "Coat of Many Colors" sticks out, mostly because my mum loves that song. I struggled with The Beatles cover.
Good music but slow. Could have a place in a third tier playlist for certain occasions. 2

New to me, and I don't know much about country. I looked it up and found that EH only contributed to the writing of one track, Boulder to Birmingham, which was one of my favourites. Actual favourite was Before Believing, which is lovely. Otherwise, it wasn't really my bag but she has a beautiful voice. Oh and it was interesting to hear a Beatles song I didn't know before, and the Dolly track which I did.
She does have a lovely voice, but I can’t say it’s made C&W grow on me in any way.
It was fun at first, but it got really repetitive really quick.
I'm sure someone loves this ... ... but that someone ain't me.
A country music album of covers, didn’t have high hopes for this one. Emmylou does have a nice voice, but this won’t convert me to be a country fan.
Enjoyable enough, though not my cup of tea. High 2.
Always liked her voice. Not a big fan of pure steel guitar twangy country and that's exactly what the opener Bluebird wine is. Hmmm. Too far gone is nice, but a little too like Tammy Wynnette. Boulder to Birmingham was the first track I liked as it was more folk. Before believing is excellent... and then we're straight back to twanging steel guitars and banjos. For no one wasn't bad. I wanted to rate this higher, but couldn't go past a 2
I really don't like country music
What a disappointment! I was really looking forward to this, especially after enjoying the Dolly Parton album earlier in The Project. Unfortunately, while she's a very good singer, it was all extremely samey. Also, I found her emotional range really lacking - we get it, you're miserable. It's why her cover of For No-one was so wrong. The point about For No-one (IMHO) is that McCartney sings it quite matter of factly, as...it's not about him. EH sings it full of self-pity, and the impact is way less.
Not really my cup of tea. I found her voice a bit grating and many of the songs too similar. But I can appreciate why this is on the list.
Personal taste opinion. I tried to be non-biased but this type of music does not speak to me at all.
C&W is just not my thing at all, unless it’s a lot more subtle than a lot of this album. However, I stuck with it because of her voice. Undeniably a great singer. Got to ‘Boulder to Birmingham’ and found a song that I could enjoy, then the next track ‘Before Believing’ was really beautiful. But just as I was now off-guard and wondering if I could be a convert, the next track was everything I hate about the genre. I stayed with the album until in the end with optimism that I’d hear another track or 2 within my tolerance zone, but it wasn’t to be. 2 stars for her voice and for these lovey 2 tracks that I’ve added to my library so will stumble across at some point randomly again in the future.
Not bad, but just not for me
1/10, 10%
She has a beautiful voice but still this is boring and not for me.
Honestly, it's pretty good but not for me at all
The album opened with a positive start with “Bluebird Wine” but never continued down the rock forward country sound which I like. The album overall is just a meandering straight country album which isn’t a genre I like so my opinion is likely opposite from the general consensus.
A few tracks that would work really well on their own, but as an album it's just too slow and sappy.
I've always found Harris to be rather vanilla and this listen did nothing to change my mind. She's great in a duet, as she was on the Gram Parsons records, but as a lead singer, I don't love her approach. You can't fault her for her song selection (anyone who covers The Louvin Brothers is all right in my book), but I don't think she brought anything new to these tunes.
Favorite Tracks: Too Far Gone Before Believing
I like: Too Far Gone Boulder to Birmingham
Not for me. Bit too country.
I mean, okay, Emmylou, after an illustrious career in music, you've got some clout. You're a serious singer-songwriter and you've been through some shit. But, like, I'm just so bored, man. This is the album that launched your career and it's full of covers?? I just... yawn. Sorry gal, respect and all that, but do better next time please. I want to hear who YOU are, not your version of who everyone else is. I am disappoint.
As far as country goes, I’ve heard worse. The first song was pretty decent actually. Couldn’t get through much of the rest….
Meh
Only like 2 types of music, country and western
As country music, it would be difficult to find a better album. As country music goes that is...
The only country music I actively listen to is probably Dolly Parton, or some very old 1950s or 1960s stuff mainly for the atmosphere. I can't get behind this. It isn't terrible, it is rather bland. She does have a lovely voice, but quite frequently I feel that country music never gets going.
Meh + uventa Beatles-cover
I swear, there's so much country on this list that I'm going to have this godforsaken genre in my Spotify Wrapped, and people will throw cans at me and laugh. Is that an unedited image of her on the album cover? She looks like a mannequin of a tree spirit, and I mean that as an utmost genuine compliment. Okay, so do country artists ever write their own songs or is the whole genre just a circulating mass of 30 different songs to cover? This is probably the third time I've had to listen to "Coat of Many Colors", and if I had something nice to say about this, it's probably the best version I've heard so far. Certainly better than having to listen to Dolly Parton's Spongebob laugh-ass voice. Who cares. 2/5
She has a nice voice but I don't think I get it. Maybe later stuff is better. 2
Boring country music
Nah, not for me.
Yeah, sorry. It takes a lot to get me to like country and this isn't it.
Country is just not it for me, and this is as country as country can get
My wife likes it, we don’t agree on music
Blah blah, excellent voice, but can the music actually be interesting? Put a guitar teang here, a generic country music sound here, throw in an okay Beatles song, and let's top it off with a Shel Silverstein poem for good measure. Just weird, but at least it's short, and I don't dislike everything here, I just wish someone in the country music genre realized they all sounded like each other.
If everything on here was as jaunty and fun as Bluebird Wine it would be better for it. Unfortunately it's not, even though she has a great voice it's not top 3 in the genre (or adjacent genres), and it has to cover a Dolly Parton classic too, so there's that. Average at best.
This suffers a bit from coming shortly after we've had Dusty Springfield - both women with beautiful voices, singing over pared back musical accompaniment. This is not on the same level as Dusty for me, whilst her voice is close to as good the musical arrangements are not - it's a bit too country for me, and a bit twee. There's also a bit too much Jesus in there for my liking. Too Far Gone is a lovely song, really showcases her voice and doesn't have the same level of American country to it as most of the rest. That and Boulder to Birmingham are the standouts, but don't do enough to elevate it to a 3. 2/5.
I’ll vibe some pop-country (Taylor stan, hello!) but this is mostly too country-country for me.
I didn't like this album. I almost fell asleep listening to this album. It felt like there were two kinds of songs on this album, standard country song and slow quiet country song. And the songs themselves were quite boring, both lyrically and musically. 1.5/5 Favorite song: N/A Worst song: N/A, all the songs blended together so I can't recall any specific song I liked or hated.
Not for me. She has a beautiful voice though.
Fuck me, lamb chops for breakfast
Meio cansativo
I'm not a fan of country/Folk music so I didn't like it much. I can appreciate her vocals tho, they are pretty good. It isn't terrible it's just not for me.
Okay, so now I've heard emmylou Harris. She sounds to me much like any other female country singer of the era.
I guess it's okay? I get a knee-jerk of 1 or 2 out of 5 reaction whenever there's country on the list
2.5. It’s nice. That’s all I have to say about that.
Too many sad dramatic overproduced country ballads. What's the point of covering Coat of Many Colours? Why the Beatles cover?
She’s obviously a good singer but I was still bored the whole time.
Sad yeehaw
It sounds nice, just not for me.
Just too country for me. Couldn’t get past the music to get the lyrics.
My first real exposure to Harris, and not one I wish to repeat. She has a voice that is sweet and pure - and yet to my ears, rather grating. There's a decent variety of material here, all blandly competent in terms of execution. Nobody involved in this record is doing anything outside of themselves - it's played too safe by half.
Country. Not my thing
Meh
There are a couple of nice songs and a lot of old-time country songs that just don't work for me.
I can go a little country, but this is just a bit too country. Can appreciate the artistry, and Boulder to Birmingham is a tune, but it's a bit full-on Nashville for me.
I wanted to connect with this album a lot more than I did. I think I really like a lot of the later collaborations Emmylou Harris does, but there were not any songs I’d go back to listen to from this album
Alright, went on a bit.
nothing special
Easy to listen to but pretty standard country music. Didn't find anything inspiring from this album
It was a good album for its genre, but nothing incredible
Not a country fan, but I had a pleasant listening
Langweiliger Country Kram. Aber wohl solide, wenn man Country mag.
Tyvärr låter all country exakt likadan för mig? Men hon sjunger ju bra.
Fine country album. Will never listen to or think about these songs again.
old school mellow country 2.5
too much country for my own good
Bäst: "For no one"
Bluegrass, langweiliger Bass, alles breitgetreten, nicht meins.
gonna be real hard for a country album to get above a 3
Not really my favorite style of music, but this album is very honest and pure in its emotional content. I Will probably not listen again, but it feels like a must-listen for any music nerd.
Na
Jeugdsentiment!
I didn’t hate it, but found it tedious and honestly indistinguishable from 99% of female vocal country music. Won’t revisit
Some lovely moments can't save this country album from mediocrity.
Hard to dislike and a great voice but would never go back
I definitely prefer older country music to newer, and actually liked a couple of these songs. Too many of them sound alike, though, and it kind of muddles the album. Saved: Bluebird Wine, Boulder to Birmingham
Saved Prior: None Saved Off Rip: Bluebird Wine Cutting Edge: None Overall Notes: Some good ol'fashioned country. Not a huge fan of slow country and it kinda settles into the background for me, but she has a good voice.
few decent tunes and quite liked the album but not much i'd go back for.
It's nicely done and she's got a classic country voice.
There's something very authentic and genuine here. Bluebird Wine slaps. The album kind of immediately slows down after that... By the middle of the album I felt like this is what I should listen to when I get my first period. By the end I wish I got my period and the album was shorter.
Standard Western
Meh. 5/10
Emmylou has a nice voice, but this old style twangy saccharine heavily-god leaning country seems very disposable. Very dated. Hank and Lefty was OK.
this isn’t necessarily a BAD album it just isn’t for me, find some of the songs nice and chill but the majority a bit monotone and boring :( definitely prefer the songs without the male backing vocals
very bored
Couldn't really get into it, but it was also the the time changed so I was just off
Old country, wasn't paying much attention while working but I think 2.5
country music is a tough one. it needs to be real special for me to like it. this isn't.
yeehaw lady
nudnawe plus nie moj klimat
kurwa country ...
Not in the mood for hippie music
meh
Udmærket, Country, lidt kedeligt
Now that’s what i call country Vol. 6
Started out with a bang but went downhill fast
'ave a beer love.
What are the similarities between Country and Hip Hop albums? Not many apart from my dislike for them. 1/5 21/5/26
keech
I never wanted to marry any of my cousins, so country music just ain't for me.
So its a country album Not a genre that inspires me in any way If I was at a summer BBQ playing this music, I would be leaving early So for me, this is a pass
Country sucks.
Cover is just as boring as the album. 1/5
Just when I start thinking I might actually not completely hate country music... the generator throws this at me. It's the embodiment of everything I despise about the genre - soppy, cheesy drivel filled to the brim with every possible Americana stereotype, tired old trope and formulaic gimmick in the book. Which is even less surprising when you realize all the songs are actually covers... and not even good ones : Emmylou somehow manages to turn even the most heartfelt country song, like Coat of Many Colors, into a boring caricature. This is unlistenable for me - annoying to the point of being almost physically painful. The idea that Emmylou has THREE albums on this list makes me want to scream. 1/10
The album cover kind of scared me at first. She looks like a gaunt Freddie Mercury in a wig. The voice is really beautiful though, warm and clear, with not too much vibrato, and the twang isn’t overdone. I get that she’s supposed to bridge folk and country, but I’m not really into either. The slides and bends feel a bit too saloon for me. Lyrically it’s all Bible, Dolly Parton vibes, booze, and a quietly accepted patriarchy, far from the bite of something like “Teenage Whore” from Hole, and nowhere near Joan Baez in terms of depth. Less annoying than most country I’ve heard, but still not my thing.
why so much country?
I listened to 29 seconds of the most downloaded track from this album, which was enough to confirm how much I despise country music. Heard before ❌️ Listened this time ✅️ 29 secs Revisit ❌️ Horrific ★☆☆☆☆ (2/10) Total reviewed : 207 Already owned : 46 Purchased : 8 To buy list : 6 Nope : 147
She has lovely vocals, I just cannot stand country.
Country slop. Not for me at all
Complete skip album. Slow country covers with barely any originality. Nice voice but sorry Emmylou, you got nothing special. Don't understand why this record makes the list at all...0.9 stars.
Not much to take away on this one. I'm sure this southern belle is alluring for some but it's just some slow country honky tonk to me. Sure the vocals are fine but it doesn't seem to be any different to a million country singers I've heard in Nashville bars or elsewhere. Not sure it's list worthy but it's not in my wheelhouse either way. It was easy to tune out as opposed to actively obnoxious which is more than I can say for some other entries. 1.25 stars
The album cover did not prepare me for this very Dolly Parton like experience. She has an absolutely gorgeous voice. 1/5
God, country is really not my thing. Not a good way to start the day, sorry
I simply cannot understand the love for Country music. I don't understand why it managed to spread beyond its own borders. Keep your horses and cows and cold beers and wife-beating to yourselves - the rest of the world has adult shit to do. She has a nice voice. Scratch that... She can sing, I'm not sure I'd qualify her voice as nice as she has the same hellish twang and warble as literally every other Country singer who has ever existed. The band can play, but I hate what they do with instruments I like and I instruments I don't. What doesn't help is that the Genre only has 2.5 modes. You'd think after a hundred years and a million performers they'd have you know, progressed, but I can't that progress and change is not in the dictionary of several US States and institutions. You have the slow, sad song. You have the shit kicker. And you have one that falls in between. Price to me there's something else. Go on! To say something positive... Before Believing has the potential of being quite pretty, good in fact, if only it were stripped of anything Country. Harris would likely sound great if, again, stripped of anything Country and given something less shitty to sing. There is simply nothing in this world more hateful than a Country Music album.
This is not the album that suddenly changed my brain into liking country. It just reinforced how much I don’t.
Sleep paralysis music. This is not country by the way, this is what demonic soulless people think Country is like.
Country Music is the only music I dislike, sorry(but for what it's worth, Emmylou Harris has a great singing voice). Favorite Track: "Queen Of The Silver Dollar".
boring
I’m sure this was very influential because it sounds like literally all country music but was made in the 70s. It’s still country though so no thanks
Country, 26eme album => 1/5
Really not my vibe
So boring it made me cry
Tremulous and terrible.
A mix of twang, folk and schmaltz that didn’t really do it for me.
She has a nice voice, but it's still farm emo and I don't like it.
Line dancing music. Bin it.
Yeah I know I said no country. Emmylou Harris is cool but I hate this sorry.
Didn't listen to it
I tried to get into this album because the singing was genuinely pretty good. But I got very bored of it very quickly.
Generic country
Yes. Another opening paragraph about an artist that I don’t know anything about. I could drag this into some political conversation, although I really don’t feel energetic or intellectually equipped enough to take that on, this fine ‘moro. Can “morning” be stylized in that fashion? Oh wait, I don’t care. Anyway, here’s Emmylou Harris. A leading candidate for a stage name, and perhaps album of the year? Only time will tell. Take it away. Bluebird Wine - Oh god, she’s killing bluebirds and drinking their bones?? This won’t stand. This sounds like it could be country. What a nice voice. Good for her. Although, if we are disclosing fully, this song sounds like it influenced a bunch of 90’s country and therefore, sucks. I’m tired of the revisionist history that the 90’s was an artistically viable time for country. Anyway. This is from the 70’s. Song isn’t for me. Too Far Gone - Boring. Trite. Pedantic. Shallow. Real critic hours. Pay me my 8 cents per “article.” I’m a WRITER dammit. If I Could Only Win Your Love - This was pretty, albeit a little fluffy. I can’t remember it Boulder to Birmingham - Errrm what are you going to do to Abraham? Leave his bosom alone. He’s just a dad who killed his son because he “heard god.” Good guy. Religion is great. This is just another floater. People on the internet LOVE it. Whatever. The ones who aren’t robots are dorks. Before Believing - I am so depressed. Between June and the nothing happening country. Somebody needs to scrape me off the floor. Bottle Let Me Down - The bottle always lets me down. I guarantee it would make this harder to get through. Also, I don’t think I’ll need to worry about remembering this album anyway. That’s a little preview of the final review. This is another song in a long series of songs. Sleepless Nights - Were you also travelling overnight in the middle seat of increasingly smaller planes as we devolve further into hellscaoe capitalism that I can’t see any way out of except the mass deaths and displacement of most people? We continually march towards our own destruction. Anyway, this is another boring song that I’ll forget before it’s over. Coat of Many Colours - I’m ashamed to say but the following thought comes from John Q. RYM reviewer. You can’t cover this personal a song. It just sounds lame. More going through the motions. For No One - This album is “for everyone” which is why it’s so yawn inducing. Queen of the Silver Dollar - Hey, it’s another song. That’s great, everybody. Congratulations on the new song. A coat of one colour. Puke green. Listen, Chris Van Vliet just posted an interview with one of my heroes, Gene Fuckin’ Snitsky, so you can bet your bottom dollar that my next hour (plus DoorDash ads) is spoken for. An oasis in the eternal desert of generic country music. I don’t care about this album. It sucks. It’s not worth analyzing past that. Enjoy your slop. I’ll be watching a retrospective of the baby punt heard round the world with an ear to ear grin. IT WASN’T MY FAULT. 1-1.5 HIGHLIGHTS: Dolly Parton without any of the charm, uniqueness, songwriting, likability etc.
Awful taste, good execution. I have no idea if I'd ever heard any of these songs before in my life. If I hear them again, I don't know if I'll remember them when it happens.
I have to be in the right mood for country, and apparently 7am on a Wednesday is not the right mood.
Meh.
I love country music more than most, but this was just not good. I have been waiting for more country albums, but wanted Willie or Waylon or John Prine or Garth or something else. Just hard to get through this album
muito ruim foda-se
Hate country
Shit
Sorry I can't do this. 1 star.
When I started this project, I eliminated the genre Country. Then had it put back in (thank you generator creator) . This was the first country album to come up. My view of country has nit changed. This was irritating and dull. Bottle Let me Down supports Elvis Costello needing to be on this list as his version shitkicks Emmylou's version.
Not appealing at all, first song was kinda meh but everything else was just sterile
No va
country music, yikes
Boulder to Birmingham
Not for me. 1/5
I had to concentrate really hard with this album, because as soon as it started playing, my brain tried desperately to tune it out for me. It's the sort of music I would expect to hear when walking around a supermarket, innocuous, vacuous, sappy, and bland. I figured there might be something special here, to justify its inclusion on the list, but I was soon proven incorrect. It was so vanilla that I didn't even stop it playing when Spotify gave me two bonus tracks. I kind of noticed it was still going, but at this point I had let my brain filter it out, and had stopped caring. One star for something so dull that it hardly even counts as music.
Country music not for me
Not for me
Nope
Month for me.
This album made me feel sad....lots of sad slow longing melancholy and any other words that come to mind for sweet delicate melodic loving poetry set to whimsical blah blah blah blah....
Country chato e cansativo. Forçado, quase dá dor de barriga. Chega de country porra!
Every cliché is this country album. Heard all the songs in Smokey and the bandit, Smokey and the bandit II, Every which way but loose or Any which way you can. Awful
Dear God, no. This is unlistenable
Country
Be gone
Country shite
No no
I don't like this whining, moaning kind of country music.
Her beautiful voice but with for me terrible country and western music with the 'tear in her voice', not my world this US Country music. Fake nostalghia. Laurie Anderson once sung this about Dolly Parton " Iturned on the radio and I heard a song by Dolly Parton. And she was singing: Oh! I feel so sad! I feel so bad! I left my mom and I left my dad. And I just want to go home now. I just want to go back in my Tennessee mountain home now. Well, you know she's not gonna go back home. And I know she's not gonna go back home. And she knows she's never gonna go back there."
Very talented singer, but country's not really my thing.
Pah
Great voice but not enough for me to enjoy listening to this. Why the over-representation of generic country albums? I just don't get it
Ugh. Country! Whining soppy music.
Cant do country
"What kind of music do you have here?" "Oh, we have BOTH kinds of music. Country AND Western." So do we now. YEEHAW! God, I never realised it could be so depressing! There were some bright spots though. Her voice is really good, and I did recognise some of the songs, but by other people. Coat of many colours I'm more used to hearing John Denver sing, and his version is much more up beat. And this may interest Gandalf's Fist. I was racking my mind to think who I'd heard do The Bottle Let Me Down. Then it came to me, but I had to search through my music on my PC to confirm it. It was covered by a band called Throw Rag. But it is their guest vocalist that is the really interesting bit. It was a certain Mr Lemmy Kilmister. Now this has left me with just one question. What the hell does Elvis have to do with Californian cotton fields? Anyway to business. Sorry Emmylou, you do have a great voice, and there were some bright spots in the songs, but I just can't bring myself to give you more than 1.
After the warm up act of Swift yesterday, we have a real cowgirl! I feel like doing lines in the Grand Ole Opry or whatever they do in there.... She's got a nice enough voice, backed up with clichéd Country slide guitar, totally inoffensive, what's not to like? And that is where the problem is, it's just not totally terrible to describe it as complete horse shit, that's the smell I was looking for! But it is backing up my lifestyle choice to avoid country music as much as possible, as it is the antithesis of that other ghastly US led genre Rap which is just offensive. If these Yankees could find a balance and someone write an offensive Country album, I might be happier. Now cringing in my living room to 'Bottle Let Me Down' - did I mention anything about cliche? I did think 'For No One' was really beautifully put together, so not a complete waste of 40 minutes. Im guessing there is a factory in Nashville which must churn out these artists like plastic X Factor people as they all sound the same. A really really high 1.
Not a country fan at all
Eh..it was not good. I suffered through it.
otroligt tråkigt
Not for me
Emmylou Harris, I loved so much for so long, but this album is way too far gone into country music territory for me to tolerate.
“ChatGPT, create me a country album that will sound like every other country album ever.” If you asked it this, it would produce this album. AI will have a field day creating country music as its by far the least creative / innovative of all the genres. Anazingly 51% of Americans listen to country at least once a month. Thats crazy. I reckon if you like country, you’ll love this. But if you are a fan of music you’ll think this is boring.
Classic example of female country singer, typical songs, typical warbly vocals, typical themes. If you like country you'll probably like this, if you don't this isn't going to change your mind. Hard to believe this is a must hear album given its almost certainly not the first to sound like this and doesn't offer anything new.
How are there this many Country albums on the list! This is about as generic country as you're going to get. Same old shite, same 1 star rating as the others.
More country! We don't really do country here in the UK..... This might've been the best country we've had so far, but not really for me and I got tired of it pretty quickly 1.5
I ALREADY RATED THIS YOU IDIOTS
I just can't.
When she started singing, I thought it was Dolly Parton. That's the best thing you'll hear me ay about this album. I checked out Wikipedia stuff and saw song #10 was written by Shel Silverstein. The kids book author? So bored with this album I didn't even bother to check. Linda Ronstadt as a back up singer was pretty cool, too. Yea, this did nothing for me. Won't re-listen or revisit artist. Now on to the good stuff. Tomorrow is the birthdate of Prince. Wear something purple. Listen to some of his music. A couple of my favorite lyrics from 2 different songs: Because of their half-baked mistakes We get ice cream, no cake, all lies, no truth Is it fair to kill the youth? Party Up Got to Party Up, yeah! As soon as we got there, good times were rolling White, Black, Puerto Rican Everybody just a freakin Good times were rolling
The first song made me hopeful that I was finally going to like one of the country albums on here, but it fell off immediately after.
It might be great country music, but I can't listen to it
I really don’t know why these sort of country albums keep appearing on the list, I think there’s a big gap between singer-songwriter and country/singer-songwriter albums and I really did not want to finish this album. This country sound just really isn’t for me and I don’t find this sort of music to be something that’s essential especially for albums that I need to hear.
Way too country for me and I really hate how a lot of these older country albums are just credited to the performer but most of the songs were written by other people. That should auto-disqualify an album from here in my opinion.
This is fairly typical sound of the 70s. She's got a good voice, but it's not for me.
Name one good country album and I'll give you 23 that sound exactly the same. This is one of the 23. Songs about Rodeo and pick-up trucks don't resonate with me; coming from the UK.
Boo country
Sure, I'll admit she has a lovely voice and sure, I'm sure that lots of people love this. But I just can't get away with the overwhelmingly vast majority of country.
howdy, i'm gon mosey on dooown to the ole railroad bridge and throw myself off to save my ears from this darn misery. y'all be good now.
Like eating an ice cream cone full of dog shit. My God, my ears will never recover from this. Suck my hairy cock.
oh god this is torture
Absolutamente cheesy.
There's nothing here that I needed to listen to before I died. Some songs veer into gospel. The only redeeming feature is that she sometimes sounds like Queen Dolly.
Oof, awful genre
Deprimente
This is some old school country. It's literally 'hokey'. Old school country has a touch of polka in it.
My streak of not enjoying country continues...
Meh. Country.
She has a beautiful voice but her songs were so sad. I can turn on the news if I want to be 😞.
1.5
Zzzzzzz. 1.
Pièces préférées: Before Believing, For No One
