Reviews (page 11 of 13)
One of the less entertaining Bowie's album that I have listened to so far. Nothing really caught my attention, songs were pretty basic, more fitting for a background noise. Maybe a bit too much of cocaine during recording?
Golden Years and Wild is the Wind save this from being two stars for me.
Not my favourite of his. Simpsons: Yes
This was one of the better David Bowie albums we have had. It was kind of unremarkable though.
golden years is not my favorite bowie song. 2.5
Decent, sorta became background music. Still haven’t figured him out
Kinda okay actually. first Bowie record that I didn't feel anguish throughout
Solid Bowie but not one of my favorite Bowie albums
Quite liked it, but of a lil tracks 2-3 and then it picked up to the end
Not bad at all...
A decent listen
It's Bowie so at least there is some interesting stuff going on, but the whole thing was too 70s sounding for my taste.
This wasn't very interesting to me. A lot of the melodies were repetitive which is fine, but it was noticeable in a bad way if that makes sense.
Good album. Could be longer.
Pretty good. -7/10
5/10 - It was a worse David Bowie album. It was short but sounded like his music just a little worse.
Just some more DB.
Thought this was just ok. Nothing really stood out well put together, I guess I expected more
There were some great ones (Golden Years makes me so happy!) Then some I was a little more confused about. I couldn't quite understand the concept of the album, sort of felt like some random songs he wrote and liked, but didn't really have a connecting thread, but decided he liked the songs so much he would make an album. I would listen again and enjoy it
This was alright, nothing really grabbed my attention
Chill
i didn't really get much out of this album. it's another david bowie album on the list, big whoop. none of his dozen-plus massive singles are on here. don't get me wrong, it's /fine/, just not really much to write home about. if the 1001 albums guy needs some suggestions on what to replace this with, might i suggest weezer's blue album? favorites: golden years, wild is the wind
Can't go wrong with Bowie!
Typical Bowie. Good but not the greatest. 3/5
I respect the art and genius of Bowie. He does piece together some fascinating work, that's full of ideas and interesting production. It's just not always that fun to listen to. I liked the slow burn on the opening track and there are some great details throughout but I found a lot of it was a bit of a slog to get through.
not as good as young americans
Actually a pretty good one from him again. Stroong 3
Mumsfilibaba Bästa låt: Wild is the wind
Not necessarily bad, but it's really long and meandering. Not the best Bowie has to offer
Short and forgettable, like me
A solid David Bowie album, though far from my favourite by him.
Much better than the earlier Bowie albums that have come up on this list. This is the first thing I've heard from him that sounds organic and shows a real sense of ownership. Some of the personae stripped away.
Decent album. “Golden Years” is a great song. Album lacks a few more standout tracks. 3.5/5 Might listen again
it's david bowie I get it, but I don't get him
I listened to this like three times and I still can't decide whether I'm musically inept or if this was just plain unextraordinary. Whatever, I just want this rating over with and out of the way.
B Station To Station 3 Golden Years 5 Word On A Wing 4 TVC 15 3 Stay 3 Wild Is The Wind 3 A Knight's Tale... need I say more?
This album doesn't do anything for me -- I'm not a huge Bowie fan in general, but this seems more unfocused than most of his work.
I want to like his music but I don't.
Yeah no I straigh up didnt get it YNN
Very nasal voice, sometimes difficult to hear and sometimes completely fine. Laid back music. Did some interresting stuff but not my style
Station to Station is the 10th studio album by David Bowie, originally released in 1976. I never was a huge fan of Bowie, but the immense amount of his albums that are included on this list are giving me a good sense of him. One thing about Bowie is that he changed his sound a lot. He can hit funk, post punk, hard rock, glam, and many more and actually do them all pretty well. This record is more on the funky side following up Young Americans, which I dig. Apparently this record is another output by his "Thin White Duke" persona. I'm also finding it hard to keep up with all his personas as well. This record was marked by Bowie's heavy drug dependence, and it kinda shows. A lot of the arrangements are a bit messy. Maybe that's just his weirdness showing through. Overall these songs were pretty groovy tho.
More of a psych rock kind of vibe from this David Bowie album. It’s good, but did not quite have the same magic as the other two I have listened to. An unfair comparison, sure. Heard some of the Kraftwerk inspiration, especially the opening track. Standouts: Station to Station, Word on a Wing, Stay, and Wild Is the Wind.
Simply Solid outing here by Bowie. I'd say his 5th ranked record behind Aladdin Sane. This album just doenst quite hold on to my interest as his other works like Low, HonkyDory, os Ziggy
A lot of David Bowie records are known to me but just more on the periphery. I don't know many of his records well at all, and this is one of them. Quick and succinct very squarely 70s Bowie record. Enjoyed this for sure.
Decent album, nothing more. I didn't hear one track that grabbed my attention, but it was easy to listen to and there were no "fuck me, this is so bad I have to turn it off" moments (and there have been numerous albums like that in this list, which still surprises me, but I guess that's what keeps life interesting as we all like different things)!
Good album
Once again just okay, I really have yet to understand the hype for David Bowie aside from a couple good songs
I like David Bowie, some of his songs are great and I really like ziggy stardust however, most of the rest of his albums are disappointing to me. They seem to mostly have 1 or 2 good songs and then a lot of filler that is marginal at best.
Ok but no stand out tracks on this. Not convinced it’s a ‘must listen to album’ personally.
artsy fartsy, that's okay, but not more
Album 1. 01/06/24 There’s a weird eeriness in here, kind of feels like you’re inside the haunted LA house he was reported to be living in before the album was made. Short and sweet, at parts VERY glammy.
3* Good but not classic
Not in the habit of listening to Bowie but this was decent—can’t say I’d purposely listen again, though.
Another that I don't get the hype too much about, but alright tunes
Artistically valid but not my cup of tea (generally love Bowie).
Nicht ganz mein Geschmack, aber hörbar.
Easy listening, nothing too special.
Solid. I may have liked this more than expected. One of his better iterations
David Bowie focuses a lot on instrumentals and pairing instruments together rather than vocal expertise now although I don’t enjoy it that much it’s growing on me and I appreciate that aspect of having different instruments. Combine to create a sound that is truly unique.
Blind album. Not his best but not memorable...
First
The album has a good vibe. It's very dance-y and upbeat, but I didn't find it very inspiring.
I liked this one slightly better than Heroes but still didn't jump out and grab me. I feel like I'm missing something when it comes to Bowie. Maybe he's just not my cup of tea. I like him fine but don't love him. (shrugs)
An ok album
There’s Bowie I love and there’s Bowie I like and there’s Bowie I can take or leave. This is somewhere between the latter two. Interesting feints toward what he’d do in the 80s mixed with some watered down versions of the glam stuff. None of my favorite Bowie though, the Eno stuff. Oh well. Still a fun listen.
How many Bowie’s does this make for us? This generator seems as though it’s got certain genres or artists bunched up in it. Either that, or there are TONS of Bowie and Bjork and electronica and British hip hop in this. And hardly any Rolling Stones or Beatles. Anyway. Pretty good, but not my favorite of his we’ve listened to. It feels like we all just sort of decided that Golden Years is a good song, even though it’s not great.
- The opening title track (i.e. "Station to Station") is very good; particularly solid given that it is 10 minutes and keeps me engaged for its entire runtime. Nice build up of suspense followed by a cathartic change of pace. - The rest of the album is fine, but it essentially washed over me with little impact. I did like "Wild is the Wind," though it weirdly sounded incredibly reminiscent of "Gethsemane" in 1988's Jesus Christ Superstar? - The fictional Thin White Duke was totally a Thatcher / Reagan supporter.
Always good!!
already listened to it, not one of my favourite bowie albums but still decent
This guy is better than Aladdin Sane. Maybe not Ziggy Stardust. Basically I had a great time listening but an hour later can't remember a thing of it
Good, but not too memorable. Desperately trying my best to like Bowie
Might not be Bowie’s best, but still a rock-solid album.
The songs on S2S are cinematic, while Bowie delivers with operatic power. Like much of his work, the music and vocals dont align.
Interesting listening as I’m more acquainted with his more popular songs from his Let’s Dance album. Dare I say this is pearls before swine as I’m not a huge Bowie fan.
What if we just listened to Hunky Dory again? Eh?? Eh?!
Let me off at the next stop thanks
Favorite Track: TVC15 Golden Years Station to Station
'Station to Station' has always been among the more baffling turns in Bowie's progression, both in terms of how he ever landed on this patient, progressive fusion of krautrock and soft rock, as well as in terms of it being so difficult to love. I come away being more respectful of the work, than directly appreciating it. So much of this feels like it required a filter that wasn't there and that would only come in the form of Brian Eno and Tony Visconti later on. It is all a making of a truly impressive album that is just just too short of breath and nonchalant in its presentation to grab me.
It's a weird album. The songs seem long, but only 6 songs? I don't know. I think I realized David Bowie makes albums to actively listen to. If you are just listening to it while doing other things it's not very good? But if you are doing nothing but listening it's much better. Don't know how don't know why.
Great. I see what people like about David Bowie.
This is the first time hearing this and I love it! David Bowie fearlessly delivers lyrics with unusual melodies, while still managing to appeal and create hooks. Really impressive!
I find myself conflicted on David Bowie. I want to like his music, but when I'm faced with a whole album I just don't care for it much. 3/5
Not bad, not great. Bowie seems to be an acquired taste for me. 3/5
very interesting and different. Not sure I liked all of the songs, but I did like most.
Awesome
Bowie albums take time to grow on me more often than not. This might be 5 stars someday, but right now it's just pretty good.
Not a bad album. Not quite Ziggy Stardust, but a good listen regardless.
Previously rated: The Rise and Fall of Ziggy Stardust and the Spiders from Mars (4/5) Aladdin Sane (3/5) The Next Day (3/5) Young Americans (3/5) ************************************************************************* Golden Years and some other songs. Average David Bowie stuff.
Not a bad album, but there's at least 3 better Bowie albums that deserve the spot.
Listed to some of it. Not mu cup of tea. 5/10
The most interesting songs on this album are those that juxtapose a soul/funk bass line against a rock/electronic guitar and vocal. Those songs drew me in.
I like it.
hingehört, aber nicht in der tiefe. besser sls ich bowie in erinnerung hatte.
Bowie is Bowie and Bowie is good (sometimes)
Golden Years and TVC15.
Recorded by a stoned David Bowie. Average with a singular star Golden Years.
ja wel goed maar ik denk niet echt banging ofzo
Side A>B Standout Songs: Station to Station Word on a wing
Another solid Bowie outing
Lots of bold choices on this album, even if it is a little boring. 3.0/5.0: Good
I think this was my least favorite Bowie album we've been thrown yet, it was fine, but it didn't do anything for me. I liked the last song, Wild is the Wind.
Favourite songs: Golden Years, Stay, TVC15 Least favourite songs: Word on a Wing 3/5
It was ok, not a big fan
It can’t just be me that thinks 50% of almost every Bowie album is filler can it? Why do I always find myself thinking, this could be so much better… It’s a standard Bowie album as far as I can ascertain. Average.
Golden Years sounds like Fashion. Overall it’s alright.
I bet there’s a lot of Bowie albums on this list. This one has a more familiar rock vibe that I dig. I’ve got a lot of respect for the man.
Bowie is about as middle-of-the-range as you can get, as far as I’m concerned. I don’t think an album of his will ever score higher or lower than 2.5 (rounded up to 3).
Bowie. Ik heb een soort haat-liefde verhouding met hem. Ik snap zijn muzikale kunsten, maar vind het niet altijd heel fijn. Ook dit album geeft mij "mixed feelings", al zitten er ook een paar erg leuke nummers bij. ***
Golden Years for life baby
David, David Du bist fleißig. Aber auch wenn dein Album ganz ok ist verstehe ich oft nur Bahnhof. Rockig ja, stimme ok - aber die Songs leider nicht fesselnd genug um überdurchschnittlich zu sein.
I read a lot about this one, but for me it was a solid meh.
3/5. Golden years was the standout song. Felt pretty run of the mill for Bowie.
Station to Station- Great but not playlist material due to 3 minutes of empty space. Golden Years- pretty good Word on a Wing- alright TVC15 - good Stay - great Wild is the Wind - good
Not really any standouts other than Golden Years.
I tried to like it but I simply didn't, sorry y'all
Didn't hate it. Couple really good songs.
The title track is an all-timer, but I'm not sure the rest of the album really reaches the highs that Bowie can reach. A great album nonetheless, but not one I feel compelled to re-visit.
Thought my headphones were broken to start with. Will return to track 3...
I like TVC 15 and kind of like Word on a Wing
Very mid, not super into David Bowie Top tracks: Golden Years
I do like this one, the funkiness makes it a lot more fun for me. But I think bowie's voice makes it so that i would rarely wanna put it on.
Bowe
Interessant
Not his best work but some good stuff on here.
Ok. 3.5
good
Interesting arrangements, but I don't get Bowie yet.
Some good tunes on here.
I don't know about this album, I'll have to give it another lesson but at first try it was kinda meh.
This wasn't my favourite Bowie album, but I did enjoy it. The guy's a genius, whichever way you look at it. Favourite tracks: Station to Station, Word on a Wing, Wild Is the Wind.
Давид Боев все еще не заходит
not my fav but still good to listen to while working
Golden Years is the star of this one.
Neat album that manages to be eccentric in just under 40 minutes, which feels very Bowie. Regardless of how much I like or dislike any given track on the album, they are all doing musically interesting things. There is some funkish flow to the music feel of a lot of this that runs almost uncomfortably close to disco with a track like Stay, but works well on tracks like Golden Years and TCV15. Cocaine was the co-producer of the album and had it's fingers all over. Highlights - Golden Years, TCV15
This album was very 'Bowie' - he's a wonderful storyteller through the medium of music. You believe everything he sings and you feel every bit of emotion he puts in to every track. The man just was too cool for this world, and this album was like a short love letter. Not his most brilliant but nothing was unenjoyable.
This is probably the least memorable Bowie album on this list and its inclusion is somewhat questionable like he already has 6 other insanely good and culturally significant albums on this list, what does this bring to the table that ziggy stardust doesn’t?
Smooth and easy. Good to play in the background.
I've just never really got David Bowie. It all seems so contrived.
Es un buen disco de Bowie. Tranqui, chill. No forma parte de su época ochentosa (es del '76).
Nunca me habia parado a oir un album completo de David Bowie. He de decir que me han gustado las canciones de este album y creo q se merece varias escuchas.
Album no. 11/1001 Decent but none of the songs stood out to me on first listen
Alright, it’s time I finally admit that I’m not as big of a Bowie fan as I’m “supposed” to be. This album is fine, but it’s no Ziggy. And I think I’m always wanting Ziggy.
Wild is the Wing best song of this album
Interesting arrangements, not my favorite
Not my favorite Bowie, but there are good cuts
Yeah... ok
Stay… best song on the album.
First time listening to David Bowie….it wasn’t bad!!
The slow start almost had me bailing out but I was in the car listening and I had nothing to but drive so I stuck with it. Bowie is Bowie. Super talented, enigmatic, theatrical, and clearly a HUGE figure in music for a very long time. Would I buy this one? Nope. Would I even think to stream it for some specific reason? Not really. But it was a good listen. Nothing bad to say about it. I've just never been a big David Bowie fan for whatever reason.
I appreciate that I'm finally listening to these David Bowie songs, and some of them really are brilliant. But I just think I'm not as enamored as others.
Bom álbum, ainda não li as letras, mas as melodias e instrumentações são ótimas, só não são do tipo que imediatamente tomaram meu coração.
Some good tracks, but not my favorite Bowie
Not my favorite Bowie. Instrumentals are a little uninteresting, they sound like they could be any random 70s band. Decent. Stay is a really good song.
Actually liked it better than Ziggy. Word on a wing is a fucking banger
Geht so. War noch nie der Bowie fanboy
mid for david bowie
Not a bad album but I don't find it as significant as suggested here.
It was okay. Golden Years, Word on a Wing, and Wild is the Wind were great songs. Growing up, I always wondered why so many folks loved Bowie so much; while this album is solid, I still don’t get it.
Favs: Golden Years (I mean, come on) TVC15 (Bowie once again a master of correctly using sax in songs) Good. Surprisingly short. Definitely enjoyed it, but I didn't feel much.
Some good stuff, but probably wouldn’t listen to much.
I've listened to a lot of Bowie over the years and somehow hadn't heard of this album or any of the tracks on it. It's like finding out you've got a sibling you didn't know about. Albeit a sibling who isn't as good as the ones you already knew.
I always admired Bowie’s creativity even if I didn’t like all of his music. This album isn’t my favorite of his.
3.5/5. Good, I was not aware of this album before this. Definitely not his favorite of mine, but it certainly is not bad.
Pretty solid not bad
Bowie at his best and his worst. Production is superb.
Lite mer experimentell Bowie. No bangers yet but not bad
Nice old time songs happy to hear again.
A bit too much. But easy listening.
I like Bowie, but like some of his other albums better
3.0 average per track.
I like Stay and the rhythm section- Dennis Davis drums? Golden Years slaps of course. But some is sleepier than I’d like/ and sometimes I want less maudlin Dave and more rhythm section grooving!
Some good stuff here.
Pleasently easy listening
Kinda cool but don't know if I'd listen to it casually
Klingt ein wenig nach Hippie-Musik. Starkes Intro, danach solala
Kinda fun but a bit short
Decent 7/10
Station to station - so repetitive but pretty groovy tho same for Golden Years and Word on a Wing dont rly like his voice ngl
It's Bowie, it's great.
This album lies right between my two favorite Bowie periods. Solid album, but far from his best, since he sets the bar so high with some of his others. 3.75
Gave it two listens. Enjoyed them and may have finally gotten to appreciating Bowie, if not falling in love. Would give it another listen in the future, 3/5 for now.
Bowie is ok.
Didnt really leave much of an impression
3.5/5 - May not be his best work, or rather not my favourite - but this is still very good.
Very high 3+
Sorry to say, this one is just meh for me. And I LOVE David Bowie.
Listened while getting ready for church, on this very stormy Sunday. It was fun to contrast this album to the album he made when trying to get sober. Very different feelings. I think I like his sober stuff better.
Loved the first two songs, rest were mediocre
Not a big Bowie Fan
First song, Station to Station is like two songs in one…so long. I’ve always liked Golden Years- a David Bowie fave. Other songs are okay- 1976 must have been a transformative year.
Solid, interesting
Not Bowie's best, but definitely an enjoyable record overall.
Decent music, complete sound.
Love bowie, but this ones has a few low points that mean I'm not in any rush to put the whole album back on.
Don’t like word on a wing.
the songs are great but they're not what get me going. Other people will love them though
An album I enjoyed listening, but nothing really stuck. 3.5/5
Rating: 6/10 Best songs: Station to station, Wild is the wind
Nothing exceptional. Nothing terrible. Very middling.
Not my favorite, but still decent.
I enjoyed the weird sounds on this but it's just not peak Bowie for me.
David Bowie's chill. Nothing super inspirational on this album but nothing disgusting either. I liked the experimentation in "Station to Station," but I also can't really get behind 10 minute songs (sorry t swizzle).
Bowie is OK; not nostalgic or the right vibe for me generally though
It took a bit to get into the title track and he didn't let me down since.
Station to Station - 2/5, too drawn out. Got very bored. Golden Years - 3/5 Word on a Wing - 4/5, few spots I didn't care for, but overall pretty solid. TVC15 - 1.5/5, annoying Stay - 4/5 Wild is the Wind - 2/5, not a fan 🤷🏻♂️
Not bad, but I like songs with more oomph.
Quick album. Listened twice but didn’t do much for me.
Never been a massive Bowie fan and I wasn’t familiar with this. Seems more of an EP than a whole album at 38 minutes long, the only song I know from it was Golden Years. Not Bowies best but nothing earth shattering. A middle of the road 3/5
Not my favorite, but of course it's Bowie, so at least a 3.
Pretty good sounding short album, nothing necessarily broke my ground.
Best song - TVC15
Better than the last Bowie album, pretty solid stuff but nothing jumped out 3.5
Kind of reminds me of the guitar in Stevie Wonder Superstition in some places, in a good way. Stay is the best song. I've heard golden years before but not impressed with the singing.
Not his best.
Nothing to write home about
-okay two david bowie albums in a row, slay -loving the FUNKY SOUNDS very on brand for bowie -i do like when the singing kicks in in station to station -definitely like the vibes in this album better than yesterdays bowie album -theres a lot more singing and action in these songs vs the other bowie album from this week -this is exactly what i think of when i think of bowie -overall i did enjoy this album but i’m giving it a 3 because i didn’t love it in general and none of the songs specifically stood out to me
6/10. "Wild is the Wind" is a banger, along with "Stay" and "Golden Years"
It was fine. Nice to listen to, but unremarkable.
Nice album but nothing special.
I was pumped when I saw that it was a David Bowie album today. But I was honestly a little underwhelmed. I also didn't realize it was only 38 minutes and accidentally listened to it like 4 times and had no idea because the songs blended together. 3/5
"It's not the side-effects of the cocaine, I'm thinking it must be love" I think that David Bowie has one of the greatest artistic minds of the century, and any music he creates has great potential, so I was very excited to listen to this album. Quite honestly, I was disappointed by this album. It was experimental in the way that Bowie quite frequently is, and has his great vocals behind each song. However, I didn't find any of the songs to be particularly compelling, and I don't think I would choose to re-listen to this album. T2- "Golden Years" was pretty well done. This might be considered sacrilegious to some, but if I'm being honest with my ratings, it's a.. 3/5
Was really disappointed by the eponymous track “Station to Station” for being repetitive. Then “Golden Years” hit followed by “Word on a wing” and “TVC15” and the album got going. Rockin, catchy, the thin white duke on display. Great moments on this album are bookended by overly repetitive riffs and added musical effects. Enjoyed but no intention on relistening later.
I just don't think I'm ever going to get Bowie, but there were some funky moments in the middle plus Golden Years
I've never been a huge Bowie fan. Ok album but I dont have much to compare it to in terms of his other albums.
3/5, some cool guitar riffs but generally not my vibe.
Enjoyable, if not something I will go back to often.
Liked. Stay was maybe the favorite. Deserves more listens.
Nothing special to me
I really enjoyed listening to most of this album, particularly the funky instrumental throughout, and it should deserve a 4/5 if it weren't for two things. Firstly, the 10 minute title track, and first track, of the album. It was pretty unbearable to be completely honest. Secondly, if we were to remove the first track, we're left with 5 songs over the course of 28 min. Way too short of an album when the sound of the other 5 songs are honestly really nice to listen to. Wish I could give a 3.5, but I cannot in good conscience give it a 4.
Station to Station - the Bowie sound. Can’t go wrong. The psychedelic rock sound is fun. (3/5 I can excuse long songs. I’m a progrock enjoyer) Golden Years - the blickablaows on the guitar are my favorite. Funk. What are these fucking notes he’s hitting. (3/5) Word on a Wing - it’s definitely a ballad type. I kept jumping ahead and really thought he might say sweet Caroline.(2/5) TVC15 - if they let Bowie make commercials with no limits. The TVC15 is a couch. (4/5 I’d buy it I guess. For a 5 minute song) Stay - funk bass. We love disco funk (4/5) Wild is the Wind - okay so this is “As The World Falls Down” low key right? https://youtu.be/PMZxehxMvHU?si=PwyuRE8Fs8y1mY-e I think I’m funny. (4/5) I like this prog/psych early rock song. Very fun to sit and listen to. Not blown away and I kind of know what to expect from Bowie (that is not a bad thing). So overall, 3.5/5
I could see how this was impressive at the time of its release but I have mixed feelings about it. I’d give it a 3.5 if I could. The second half was better than the beginning.
So. Even coked up David Bowie gets the benefit of the doubt, for me. However. This is not my favorite version of Bowie. It’s not hard to listen to but it doesn’t grab me the way other music of his does, especially once he got more focused and sober.
Pretty good, 6.5/10
Good, wish there were more tracks
Golden Years is on this one. Not dated, but sounds very 70's. Bass forward, longer songs around 5-10 minutes each. Beautiful music and voice. David Bowie used the persona: Thin White Duke for this album. He also did a ton of coke during this period.
Needs more re-listening.
I liked the first track and already knew the second. The rest of the album wasn't as good. It was okay I guess, but nothing special.
Pretty good. Not listened thru all the way. I’m not really a Bowie fan.
It's was okay. Not a massive Bowie fan. But I still liked some of the songs.
I enjoyed it but it didn’t blow me away
Was a little too all over the place for me. Cant understand what he’s saying for some but I did vibe with a couple of songs.
Enjoyed the album. Easy listening during the work day. Wouldn't say i loved any of the songs but enjoy them. 6.6/10
If you ever wondered what a musical bowieism is, then listen to this album, it's full of musical quirks in the musical arrangements that were David's trademark. Thoroughly enjoyed this album, it was a tame production in comparison to Bowies previous and more experimental albums, but given it was created when he was at the lowest point in his life, you have to applaud how good the album is.
это тот самый альбом что поломал меня на пути прослушивания всей дискографии Боуи) ну не так ужасно, но мало и пусто (поломали меня янг американс наверно, а этот просто добил)
Um….it’s kinda slow, I guess…
I didn't experience the transcendental listen that others did. After hearing so much about this album I found myself underwhelmed compared to other Bowie albums, perhaps a second listen is needed.
Good
Vienas iš negirdėtų Bowio albumų, 3/5, visai funky, pirma daina labai patiko, kitos gan vidutiniškos.
Pretty interesting album, but I find I can't really get into Bowie that much.
The last song is the best one the rest are just okay
average
I liked the last song, maybe I will listen again paying more attention.
It's not my favorite David Bowie album. Still, I'm giving it three stars because it's David Bowie.
Judging by the list so far I’m about it be bombarded by Bowie… which isn’t a bad thing. Solid pick but there are a handful Bowie albums I’ll take above it
i’m gonna have to listen to this again at some point and start reading what the book has to say before i start each album because i did not get this. most of these songs are too long for their britches. golden years is solid.
Very David Bowie. Very listenable. 47 years after release it still sounds like it could be released today by someone wanting to sound a bit retro. Stay sounds like something that could be released by the Black Keys… maybe without the disco roller skating riffs.
23.08.23 - I almost missed this, but thought I should listen as I already missed Are You Experienced. I'm not familiar with Station to Station, but it has Golden Years on it. I've arrived late to work, but LP is coming home today, and I am so excited! I can't wait. The opening line of Station to Station is "The Return of the Thin White Duke..."....that's cool! I'm three songs in, its quite different to other albums I've listened - I can't put my finger on it, almost ballard-esque? Ok, I've played it the whole way though, the song Station to Station was definitely the best, followed by Golden Years, not sure I like the rest that much though
Decent Album with a few good songs
Listened to it twice. Didn't know it. I kinda liked it, but I couldn't point to something that made me go WOW except maybe for Wild is the Wind.
Je zet de plaat op en je hoort inderdaad David Bowie, met inderdaad zijn unieke stemgeluid. Maar heel veel extra doet het niet. De man bereikt nergens de toppen van zijn kunnen wat mij betreft.
If a David Bowie album plays in the forest, and nobody is there to listen to it, does it still warrant consideration for the top 1001 list? If it includes Golden Years, the answer is yes.
Pretty good Bowie album, only knew Golden Years going into it.
David Bowie is altijd goed, al vind ik dit niet zijn meest inspirerende album. De nummers duren erg lang en prikkelen me minder.
7/10
- Way more energy than I was expecting - Great sound and vocals - Bass was funky in a lot of the songs - Enjoyed this more than I thought I would - 3.5
- this is the album from that chili peppers lyric in californiacation I believe - didn’t expect a religious song (word on a wing) - Bowie’s variety never fails to amaze
-Station to Station gives imagery of a train traveling literally station to station in the intro of the song. Passengers being various instruments/sounds entering and exiting. Then Bowie hops on vibing -Repetitive hook finishing out the songs for some. “Word on a Wing” was nice “Stay” is verrryyy funky Nice vibe. Music > lyrics, conclusively Can’t say I’m turning it on for my vibes.
I love Bowie but this is not my favorite of his. Golden Years is a good song but the rest sort of plods along. This is a good album. Just not a great album.
Better than Blackstar? Honestly. I don't get the hype around Bowie.
Good listen but not my favorite Bowie opus
Eh, the other David Bowie records on this list were more unique to him—this one kind of blends in with the rest of 70s rock. I didn't really get anything new out of this album, and my favorite track was the Nina Simone cover.
Eh, kinda forgot I was listening to this album. Still appreciate the variety that David Bowie brings.
Station to station is a very cool song, but it was really the only memorable one to me. This album sounded like much heavy rock guitar like than most Bowie I am used to. Again another very solid album from David
Et godt lyt, konceptuelt og lyrisk, stabilt
Didn't really click or feel memorable after a few listens.
It's okay, just not as good as Aladdin or Ziggy Stardust
It’s a fine album, not one I particularly found interesting however.
Bowie finding Jesus while strung out on coke is a thing to behold.
Its good, just didn't really hold my attention. There's incredible funky songs and I'm happy to have listened. Just not as good as the other bowie I've heard
Not a huge Bowie fan but I appreciate his work.
I really enjoyed Wild is the Wind, and TCV15 was pretty good, but I can't with good conscience give it more than 3 stars, when I gave Abbey Road 4.
This was not as good as Hunky Dory but I still thought it was decent. Not sure I'd listen to it again but there something interesting about his weird rock style. Highlights: TVC15 Stay
I love Bowie but didn’t really connect with track 2 or 3. Album has some lovely passages but some of the songs aren’t good from start to finish. Maybe better on a relisten when I’m not working
Good rock music. Nothing remarkable.
I don't buy into the hype, and I don't feel what's so special about this album. Bowie's voice sometimes feels like howling. Okay. It's interesting to observe a creation of a person influenced by drugs.
этот альбом боуи лучше, чем мы слушали но как-то не зацепило плохое сложно что-то сказать, сильно хорошее как-то тоже..
I know he has now transcended into alt-sainthood, but I didn't go all the way to give stars. It has done great tracks on it, though. I appreciated it's brevity, too!
I enjoyed. I don’t think I’m ever going to be a hardcore Bowie fan but I’m ok with that.
nothing wrong with it, nothing right with it either. stay
A brisk and enjoyable listen though I'll commit heresy and say that on closer inspection, it's patchy. The lyrics to the overlong title track for example are kind of a semi-coherent mess, consistent with introducing a persona whose character is basically constructed from cocaine.
Good music, but not my favorite Bowie album.
It's crazy that I recognized a song from this album. Didn't know it was bowie before. And the song/album isn't even the most popular according to listens on spotify. This guys just has that much good music.
Station to Station: the buildup has that minor key eerie-edged groove, but had me hooked by the time the bassline came in. It's got a clear ambience, not necessarily one I would call easy listening with the aforementioned edge to the overall sound and the haunting/harrowing charged vocals. OH the pickup and keys! I'm digging it! Magic! (after 5.5 minutes, everything changes). After the big stuff, it's mainly just a nice vibe. Golden Years: Almost giving me a pre-steely dan feel with a european classic rock vocalist, up until the chorus, where it gets a little more energetic. A nice groove. Word on a Wing: I knew I'd like it right from the start. I loved the intro, and how the electric guitar seemed far away like a classic rock ballad, and the lyrics plus the instrumentation and melody in general, slappin. it kinda makes me happy??? least favorite part: bridge. im not ready to shake the scheme of things bud. Really liked the keys though. TVC15: the vocalization is .... interesting in the intro, but I was immediately head bopping, so we'll call it a win. I do love the vocals in the verse though. Stay: I like the guitar, I like the synchronization, the solo is dope, the verses are tight, it's a groovy track. wouldn't be surprised if this was seen as the standout of the album/ep. Wild is the Wind: a more mellow, melancholy, thoughtful piece, a little drawn on as are the other album's tracks. I do like it for sure.
Once again I want to love Bowie, but nothing is standing out as extraordinary. It's solid and pleasant, but I don't know why I would choose to put it on.
Some nice arrangements, good funk sound and pretty different progressions, though mostly inline with what I think of a typical Bowie song. Mix was not great, and even though he's turned up to 11 I still cannot for the life of me understand what he's saying
Never heard this album or any songs off it, but word on a wing is very beautiful with some lovely lyrics :) E.g. my fave - In this age of grand delusion/ You walked into my life out of my dreams / Sweet name, you're born once again for me However...I found most of the other songs long and a bit repetitive :( It's only 6 songs and 38 mins so each song is pretty chunky
