Everything sounds the same but they got some catchy licks. Unfortunately the cringe of how "badass" they are combined with the safe vanilla sound make for a pretty boring listen.
I really like AC/DC's straightforward rock. Great riffs, good solos. I like the vocals. Gotta get it at least a 3.5, so we'll go 4.
Funny that this used to be consider "hard rock." Seems so tame now. Not my thing really.
No one has unlimited time in ther lives. We all know AC/DC is a mediocre rock band,(yeah I said it!) so since this is a catch up album, I'm throwing down a 3 without listening. Sue me Geoffery Fieger!

my thought process listening to this album: "highway to hell": hell yeah this is gonna be a dope AC/DC album full with bangers. at this moment, I am expecting to, at some point, hear back in black, thunderstruck, dirty deeds, or any combination of the top AC/DC tracks. "Girl's got rhythm" to "Touch too much": there haven't been any super killer AC/DC tracks other than "thunderstruck" thus far, but these tracks all maintain the energy, provide killer riffs, and allow me to think that this album is still 4/5-5/5 range. "Beating around the bush" to "Get it hot": I am now desperate for a recognizable track, or anything resembling a breath of fresh air. Every song now sounds the same, and I'm sick of Scott's screaming vocals that offer no dynamics "If you want blood" to "Night prowler": all hope has been lost. I have succumbed to the AC/DC sound, nothing can save this album at this moment. 1 good track (and 9 other identically-sounding tracks) cannot make a good album. Any of these songs on their own could make their way into a dad-rock playlist, but I'm convinced that this album simply is not made for front-to-back listening. I juggled with different ratings, but if I'm being honest, it really just deserves a... 2/5

Can you make the argument all of their songs sound the same? Only if you aren't paying attention. Starts off with one of the greatest hard rock anthems ever and doesn't come up for air the rest of the way. Proof that Bon Scott is THE lead singer for this band. Similar to David Lee Roth with Eddie Van Halen, Bon Scott's voice just sounds like it belongs singing along with Angus Young. If you still insist all their songs sound the same, I implore you to get into some of the choruses and harmonies, to say nothing of some of the guitar solos. And even then, if you brush this off by saying the songs are too similar: What does it matter if they all sound great. Bumping up a notch in tribute to the late Bon Scott, who sang with all the conviction of someone hell bent on drinking himself to death.
AC/DC is a great band that has influenced almost everyone, from Gun's n Roses to Megadeth. I feel very nostalgic when I hear AC/DC songs. When I was not yet seven years old, my dad always played their songs in the car. Also, in my first band, our bassist loved this wonderful Australian band, and sometimes we performed their songs, even though we don't sing in English. Of course, 5 out of 5

Just solid, good (not spectacular) rock n roll. I wish AC/DC was as flashy as hard rock ever got. I feel like the rock trends in the 1980s I really don't care for. AC/DC to me feels like the last simplistic power chord, hard rock band before hair metal and cornball antics ruled the day. I'll listen to AC/DC over any hair band from the 80s.
Always love some AC/DC. This might be my favorite from the early years.
Rock and roll distilled to its purest essence: driving guitars, thumping bumping bass, and simple hard-hitting drums, AC/DC perfected a formula and figured, why fix what ain't broke? Highway to Hell establish the tone, and the rest of the album follows closely after. As one review wrote, it's big ol' bowl of chocolate ice: each bite tastes the same, but that's not the fault of the ice cream. You either dig it or you don't. Got to admire their consistency and dedication to creating fun, energetic music without pretensions. Not something I would play regularly, but it sure makes for good driving music, or if I ever needed to drink a 30 rack of P.B.R while pretending to fix my car, this would certainly be a fitting soundtrack.

Wat een verademing na Velvet Underground. Wat een kwaliteitsbrug! Met Highway to Hell ben je ook wel gelijk binnen natuurlijk. AC/DC staat bekend om het muzikale geweld. Maar het is allemaal uiteindelijk best toegankelijk. Dan deed Velvet Underground soms veel meer pijn aan mijn oren. Enige minpuntje van AC/DC is dat het wel veel van hetzelfde is.
Van dik hout zaagt men planken rampetamp ouwemannenrock. Afgezien van highway to hell heb ik geen idee meer hoe al die nummers gingen, maar dat maakt ook helemaal niet uit. Het lijkt allemaal op elkaar, maar het is niet erg, want je kan lekker meeknikkebollen op de maat. En daar kun je gewoon (een magere) 4 sterren mee verdienen.

The most vanilla "hard rock" ever. Definitely the saltine cracker of rock. And people love this shit. Sure the songs are catchy but they're boring to me. I just don't get it.

AC/DC really gets a rep for being a clear example of the sort of crunchy blues-influenced sex drugs and rock n roll classic rock sound, and this album is a pretty clear example of what that genre tends to sound like. This album is also the greatest possible execution of that sound. This band takes basic power chords and driving 4/4 rhythms and elevates them to truly unimaginable heights. The sound is gigantic, the charisma and confidence unparalleled, and every dimension of the music is delivered perfectly. Yeah, some tracks are worse than others. Get It Hot lacks the same intensity as the rest of the album but at worst it’s a fine classic rock song. Love Hungry Man is okay but rescued by some fun bass grooves. Night Prowler is a cool song but strangely bleak and sinister on an otherwise fun record. At the end of the day though, these would be good tracks on many other albums of the genre, and they are more than outweighed by the incredible rest of the record. Bon Scott’s death is one of the big “what ifs” in music history, because this is an album where he had really finally came into his own as a unique frontman with a bangin’ voice and cool attitude. Of course, the hedonistic nature on display here would ultimately lead to his demise, but what more fitting statement is there to go out on than “I’m on the highway to hell”. I mean, it’s an AC/DC album but they go so hard. If you’re in the mood for it, it could be a 5. If you don’t like the AC/DC sound this album won’t convert you since it’s almost the same song over and over again
The title track gets 6 out of 5 stars. The rest of the album's solid hard rock, but not terribly remarkable. 3.5 stars.

If ever you can hear a band name and know EXACTLY what the music is going to sound like, it is AC/DC. Every single song is the same as the last one. How they have become such a rock juggernaut, nay, behemoth is beyond me. Bang. Sodding. Average. I feel a headache coming on.
Title track and Touch Too Much are standouts, the rest is just consistent head bopping toe tapping rock n roll.

Textbook generic rock by numbers. The guitar tone is the only standout element with a tight bright distortion sound ringing out in the open chords and a generally fun & concise if unoriginal approach to solos. Good clean crisp drum sound too. Otherwise it's just dudes doing rock noises. Pretty stripped back in terms of production. They had a formula and somehow it worked for them for decades, but good God is it tedious. Truly the Top Gear of bands.
Bangin' head-shakin' rock from Australia's best ever band. Don't expect anything sophisticated, just enjoy.

Highway to hell: such a great album opener. Album is oozing with energy to the point that most of these sounds samey to me. 2* since I enjoyed it more overall than the last few albums, but I don't think I'd revisit it very often.

What can we say. Epic rock legends with the songs we know and love. Hard now to believe it was "hard rock" as it sounds like classic rock to hear it again today. Nice to hear, a staple band and one I'm pretty much always up for the way some dudes like Metallica.

After two AC/DC albums, I can confirm that I like AC/DC's hits by themselves, but as a whole album it's too much. As I remarked with "Back in Black," there's just no levels here. It got old really quickly after the title track.
My review of Back in Black was that AC/DC only has one level. That is an apt review of Highway to Hell as well. It's all just a Touch Too Much.
Honestly, I’ve tried getting into this album. I’ve tried. But it just doesn’t do it for me. Even Highway To Hell (song) trails off into something that I’m not super pumped about by the end. My most prevalent thought is about the line, “She’s got the backseat rhythm” from Girls Got Rhythm. Does that mean he likes the way her back side moves or does it mean she likes to have sex in the backseat of a car. I have no idea the answer. What I do know is that AC/DC’s lyrics are too obsessed with getting chicks.
All great songs individually and this has some of ACDC's biggest hits, but man 40 minutes of ACDC is just too damn much for me. 5/10

"Highway to Hell" is an historical track. Reaching almost 1'5B streams on Spotify, it display stats usually obtained by recently released #1 tracks. All of this while being a 70s record. AC/DC's sound is impossible to dislike and it is constant during this album. There are no bad songs included. However, at times, I would not be able to tell different tracks apart. I miss more songs that do their own thing within the album. Great listen.

Heard before: some For a band that is constantly rewriting the same 2-3 songs, it’s kind of incredible how much the quality can vary track by track. I guess either a lick tickles your lizard brain or it doesn’t, because the lyrics are consistently stupid. But that’s what you expect. This whole thing is pretty much what you expect, I guess, but I don’t think it's the AC/DC record I’ll put on if I want one. AC/DC is one of the instantly recognizable bands of hard rock, and Highway To Hell is one of their most recognizable songs. This probably AC/DC’s second best album (behind Back In Black), and one of the two AC/DC albums I own (along with Back In Black). They’re very good at what they do. That said, they’re a bit of a one trick pony. 4+/5

I was always a Bon Scott man. Brian Johnson era AC/DC is great, but they lost a bit of that heavy, almost thrash metal, grit after Bon Scott. This is up there as AC/DC's best, short of High Voltage and Dirty Deeds.
Now this is cock rock done right. Aussie incorrigibles with ten songs about one thing - the highway to hell is slippery indeed. It’s base but knows it, and though every song sounds like the one before, it’s a good song sound, and the band takes itself exactly unseriously enough. Inimitable vocals, massive guitar and throbbing rhythm section. Throbbing indeed.

Yeah ok! All very samey. Very of the times, I can imagine myself drinking to this whilst getting ready to meet pals/ night out.
AC/DC are the exemplars of hard rock, post-Zep but pre-Hair Metal. And you can hear the influence of the former on them, and their influence on the latter. No hard rock riffs feel more natural and inevitable than Angus Young's, and his tone and time are to die for. (Just listen to other guitarists try to play his "simple" riffs.) Having said that, this is a one-vibe/one-harmonic-formula/one tempo band, so there's not much to be gained from listening to an entire record. Standout tracks are excellent, though--the title track and "touch too much"
It's AC/DC, hard not to enjoy rock
Such amazing riffs. Phil Rudd is a master at being exactly the drummer necessary. The vocals are lengendary. But the lyrics...Oh dear God those lyrics. Listening to AC/DC makes me appreciate David Lee Rother. His lyrics were just as dopy, but he was always in on the joke. Bon Scott never gives me the same feeling.

eh, i used to hate AC/DC but have come around on them a bit in recent years. they've got like eight good songs but unfortunately only one of them is on this album. after the title track, this album doesn't really go anywhere or do anything exciting, it just all sounds the same. if you really like the one 40-minute AC/DC song they wrote, then you'll love this album, but it was just ok for me. favorites: highway to hell, touch too much
Listened to this while playing A Feast For Odin. I have never listened to an AC/DC album before...though of course I knew the title track. Didn't recognize any of the other songs though. Definitely not my style. I felt so straight after listening to it, I followed it up with Dua Lipa just to balance the scale.

I have a soft spot for AC/DC, meaning I love their version of hard rock. But one star off for being over played, which isn't really their fault but still there's only so many times I can hear them scream the song before it gets old. Can't wait for that long awaited acoustic coffee house version of the album to come out...

A hard rock classic. Catchy riffs, anthemic choruses, tight sound. Highway to Hell, Touch Too Much, Beating Around the Bush are standouts, but Love Hungry Love Man gets a mention for having a disco-ish rhythm. Overall a great album!

Some iconic songs but overplayed
Bon Scott era AC/DC Is a bit too before my time for it to have really been on my radar but I have to say this is my kind of music even though classic rock isn’t my first rock love. From the song everyone has heard of in Highway to Hell which of a little cliched you have to admit is a cracking opening track, to the final slightly plodding finale Night Prowler there isn’t a bad record on this album. I’m giving the prize for my favourite song to Beating Around the Bush. And a solid 4/5 for the album

Great album. I think if I was reviewing it at release it would score higher, listening today it sounds a little formulaic though that's probably partly down to the popularity of their sound. Highway to hell is one of the best album openers I've heard. I did kinda prefer the lyric writing from previous AC DC albums like powerage that tackled more serious subjects.
Major Americana but wasn't for me. I liked some of the lyrics and the simple yet driving guitars
AC/DC excels at writing killer riffs and good blues rock. The rest is all details. I wouldn’t call them groundbreaking or anything, but their sound is unique and that counts for something. This is one of their two best albums and is a quick hard hitting album. It has quite a few hits making it one of the best rock albums of the late 70s. It does sound similar throughout, but to be fair, that’s exactly what they’re trying to do.

It's like the band made the song Highway to Hell (admittedly a decently good song) but then just Ctrl+C / Ctrl+V that song 9 more times with a slightly different shade of paint. You hear one song here, you've heard them all, and they aren't interesting enough outright to want to listen to more than once

Well teenage Chloe was really into AC/DC and the first few songs I was really into... but by the end I was kind of over it and songs weren't that distinctive anymore. Total respect for the album but won't be coming back in a hurry
I do love ACDC. They are great fun. I think they are a band that people take too seriously, for me they are basically a big pop band doing heavy metal, it's silly, it's fun, a lot of it sounds the same, but that's fine. However, I do find that the best ACDC album is a greatest hits, because, each album only has a couple of bangers on it. This album only really has Highway to Hell and Shot Down in Flames, but the rest don't hit those highs. Still, I do love it.

Second favorite album. A lot of rock and roll going on with Angus and the boys.
Starts to all blend together as you progress through the album, but it rocks from start to finish.
I’ve never been a fan of AC/DC’s brand of testosterone driven stadium rock. The most interesting thing about this album is the production. It manages to bring out a richness in what are generally pretty annoying vocals from Bon Scott. The guitars also sound great. The songwriting is boring and/or dumb, every song seems to be another take on lusting over girls, as though the big bad wolf hooting at little red riding with his jaw down wrote all these tracks. It’s basically sex predator rock, it even inspired an infamous serial killer. So yeah, I’d say this is vastly overrated and did not age well.
I mean, it's AC/DC - you get the good and the bad. The title track is of course phenomenal, and some others are good (I really liked Walk Over You), but at the same time you really get the feeling that there's no difference between songs. Not their best work to be honest.

Some iconic tracks (Highway to Hell, If You Want Blood) and some other highlights (Night Prowler). Also, some samey sounding songs (most of the rest). Bon Scott has such an iconic voice and sounds great on this album! Oh course the rest of the band always sound great too. 4.5/5

Probably better suited for a crowded bar in southern Nebraska where everyone is moderately inebriated and is tone deaf but still screams along anyways.

Well, I'm not a fan of Acca Dacca, their beats are really annoying, as is their vocal. They struck gold with a highly regarded titular single, but otherwise it's just a slug tempo mix of the most boring drums.
Album 20 Oh AC/DC, Australia's gift to rock and roll. They're not metal, not punk, just rock and roll. Angus Young's guitar work is legendary for it's ability to simultaneously sound simple and brilliant. Highway to Hell was the last album with Bon Scott before he literally drank himself to death. I used to consider Back in Black to be their best album, but this listen made me reconsider. It was 40 minutes of fun, debaucherous, rock and roll. Not a bad song to be heard, and the album flew by. I almost listened a second time because I didn't want it to end. 5*

Great album. From Bon Scott’s tongue-in-check lyrics combined with Angus Young’s lead guitar riffs and solos, and Malcom Young’s rhythm work (whose timing that you could set a watch to) the album just rocks. The album doesn’t have a bad song on it. Aside from the hit title track, my favorites are “Touch Too Much”, “Beating Around the Bush”, “If You Want Blood (You’ve Got It) and “Night Prowler”.
basic rock and roll. if you know AC/DC you know this album. it has some stand out parts and i might listen to a few songs again but overall nothing special.
I groaned a little when I saw this album pop up, but after the first 2 tracks i thought "hey, maybe it's not so bad". A couple more songs later and nope. The fatigue sets in so quickly with ACDC, people are not exagerrating when they say every song they make sounds the same. It's all the same structure, the same sound, the same tempo, same same same everything. It's 40 minutes but it feels like an hour, 4 minute songs feel like 7. I won't give it a 1 because the songs individually are catchy and fun, but listening to more than 1 in a row just shows how much of a one trick pony they are.

Not much to say here. It's AC/DC and Classic Hard Rock, that most people probably already heard at least once in their lives. It's also definitely not a meme, that most AC/DC songs just sound the same, because it's true for this one. Seems like a lot of the songs are just filler for the big hits on this. I do enjoy some of their individual songs, but I don't think I would come back to listen to a full album from them. The songs that are good, are really great. Highway to Hell, Touch Too Much and maybe even If You Want Blood are just very fun to listen to.

A classic rock album, only one known song so didn't have much connection going through so It doesn't reach the highs of other ACDC albums.

Brilliant album full of bone-shaking rock n roll tunes. Highlight is the title track, a perfect blend of Angus Young's crunchy but fluid guitar, the rock steady rhythm section and Bon Scott's growling vocals. Plenty of other great tracks, with only one or two fillers

BL: AC/DC is a group my father likes a lot. To me they do have some real stadium shaker rock anthems, but the statement that they made the same album 20 times is absolutely true. I suppose I’ll see when I listen to this one. AL: my hypothesis was correct. The album started strong but by track 5 I knew I was just listening to the same stuff. I suppose the lyrical or melodic appeal has never been what people come to AC/DC for, but the Young’s guitar sonics, which are outstanding here. However there’s not much else going for it FT: “walk all over you” 3/5

This album screams 50 year old white conservative truck driver and “I was born in the wrong generation” type music. It’s aged Terribly, the guitar solo are forgettable and corny, and these vocals are so painful. I could barely distinguish between songs they all use the same formula, I’m glad this is 40 minutes cause I don’t know how much more I could take.

I'm afraid I have never been a fan of "hard rock" and in trying again, I still don't like it. Highway to Hell will always be kind of fun, but after listening to one song, I'm done.
Perhaps one of the records that shaped bands a lot musically in the oncoming decades! While I don't love AC/DC that much, I appreciate what they did in music and it's just fun music. But I could put on almost any album by them, and have that same fun feeling. They have their own special place in music. I'd like to think if it wasn't for this band, a lot of later bands would sound quite different. 8 out of 10

Never listened to an AC/DC album in full - and it was good fun! Did get a bit samey after a while, I'm never going to be one to go through their whole back catalogue. But for 40 minutes it's a good time - and Highway to Hell (the song) is a real banger.

Is it weird that I prefer Highway to Hell to Back in Black? The songs on it just tend to be faster paced than those on the next album. Anyway, AC/DC have always been a great band, but not amazing. Both their records in the book deserve to be here, but they’re not super amazing or anything. Title track is a classic. Songs are great. Give it a listen if you like this kind of classic rock.

5 For this guy, Bon Scott is AC/DC. My favorite albums and my favorite songs all come Bon Scott era AC/DC. Brian Johnson is mediocre to OK, and and Back in Black is a great album, but it just wasn't the AC/DC I love. In fact, my Spotify title for ACDC is just Bon Scott and his music. I don't think I have anything downloaded from the Brian Johnson era, but enough but that dude. Bon Scott has one of the most unique and distinctive singing voices I have heard. Hard to replicate for sure. Over the weekend I did see an ACDC cover band that specifically covered Bon songs and those guys were solid. I finally got to feel like it would to see Bon in concert and I loved it. Great album and even better album cover. This album takes me back to my days as a teenager. My sister always thought she could beat me on the basketball court. She couldn't and my smack talk, in your face song was Walk All Over You. This album does not have a bad song and I dare say the opening riff on Highway to Hell is recognized by every rock n roller out there. And while every song is solid, it's the 2nd half of the album that kicks it into a different gear. Hard to name a favorite song because it seems to change with the mood, but Love Hungry Man, If you Want Blood, Shoot Down in Flames and Night Prowler are all standouts to me. This is Bon's last album before he passes. I can't say this in my favorite album, but it certainly brings a tear when you stop and think about the significance. They released a concert movie about a year after Bon's death. I remember watching in a theater, knowing I would never too see him live. But at least I got to see this movie and here is the review from another rock n roller I love. Nothing else needs to be added. "My first punk rock moment was going to see the AC/DC movie, Let There Be Rock," recalled Dave Grohl. "It was the first time I'd felt that energy; like, I just wanna fuckin' break something. I'm so excited that I'm losing my mind! It was dirty and sweaty. Fuckin' beautiful."[1] This is what I feel like listening to any Bon Scott album. This album was also tied into another historical period when a number of dumbasses wanted to label ACDC Devil worshippers because Richard Ramirez left behind an ACDC hat at one of his crime scenes an an ACDC shirt at another. If you don't know who Richard Ramirez was, they called him the Night Stalker. Some tried to associate the song Night Prowler with the Night Stalker. The song was written 5-6-7 years prior to his murder spree and is about a teenage boy sneaking into his girlfriends bedroom at night. But some will find outrage wherever they can. Anybody remember Mork and Mindy? The last words Bon speaks as Night Prowler comes to and end are Shazbot and Nanu nanu. The catch words/phrase used by Mork throughout the show. Great album from beginning to end. Great album cover. RIP Bon. 5
Highway to Hell is another one of those super nostalgic albums for me. It's probably my favorite AC/DC album. The hits are still great, but I still find myself drawn to the deeper cuts like "Walk All Over You" and "Touch Too Much". This has some of the best hype up music too. "If You Want Blood (You've Got It)" goes so fucking hard, but everyone knows that. All of these songs, however, always make me think of playing through Halo CE on Legendary. This along with Weezer (s/o Trainwrecks) and the Ram Ones were always in constant rotation on that playlist. The chaos at the very end of the level "Halo" specifically comes to mind when listening to this. I love this album. It has such energy that only AC/DC can truly call their own. It's the musical equivalent of the thrill you get from licking a 9 volt battery. Its rock and fucking roll. 5
5 I’m going to try to avoid echoing what I think my Dad’s review will sound like as much as I can here, but I do have to validate one thing that I know he’ll say - that being, AC/DC with Bon Scott is true AC/DC, and there wasn’t a bad album released by the group while he was a part of it. Meanwhile, Back in Black is kinda meh and everything after that mostly sucks. I don’t have anything outright against Brian Johnson, but I don’t really care for his vocals, and more importantly, the sound of the group as a whole changed with his involvement - the heavy, raw AC/DC sound that we know and love came to an end with this album, and Back in Black ushered in a new era of overproduced, polished radio rock music. Anyway, that’s my segue to Highway to Hell - it’s probably the group’s best, though as I said before, you really can’t go wrong with any Bon Scott AC/DC album. Either way, what a note to go out on. I know a lot of people accuse every AC/DC song of sounding the same, and I can admit a lot of them do have a similar sound. If you don’t like one song on this album, you’re most likely not going to enjoy the rest, but if you do enjoy the sound of one song, there’s a good chance you’re going to enjoy the bulk of this album. For me in particular, it would be really hard to pick a favorite, though I can probably point to the title track Highway to Hell as probably being my least (most likely due to it being overplayed). However, I will say Girls Got Rhythm, Touch Too Much, and Shot Down in Flames are highlights - though nothing here is bad. I know I normally make fun of cock rock bands for their macho, oversexualized lyrics, but AC/DC somehow is able to do so in a way that just feels naturally cool. I think it helps that they seem to have a degree of self-awareness and humor in their music, and hell, even a dose of humility with Shot Down in Flames. How often do you hear a rock track literally being about striking out with women? I also really like the closer Night Prowler, which involves a really cool buildup of the music that sends the album off on a high note. It’s admittedly a little creepy (and more so in hindsight because of the whole Richard Ramirez thing), but I think its intentions are mostly grounded. Also, I always thought it was kind of funny that Bon Scott’s last words on an album are “Shazbot. Nanu nanu.” I probably haven’t listened to this album all the way through since high school, but as I was doing so for this review, I realized I have just about every song here saved to a master Spotify playlist. So, while I really didn’t set out to give this a 5, I think I’d be lying if I didn’t put it there - this is a truly enjoyable album that has played a big part in my life and musical development. I realize rating this higher than Zeppelin IV is probably insane and deserving of getting my music nerd card taken away, and yes, I’m aware that that album is objectionably better from probably a number of perspectives, but at the end of the day, I have fonder memories of AC/DC and find myself coming back to them a bit more. So, we’re gonna pull the trigger on the 5 - Hell ain’t a bad place to be after all. Sorry I missed the cover band, Dad!

Starts out strong and keeps up all the way through. A couple of songs stronger than the others, but all are very much AC/DC. Enjoyable album.

All the songs have that familiar AC/DC sound but there's a bit more variety and interest in the instrumentation than usual. Angus Young rips, and the band as a whole just really leans into themselves. I can't give this anything other than 5, partly nostalgia, but also I think just a really well executed hard rock album.
Great record! Not a lot to say other than that honestly it's just a great rocker. The "Quiet Riot" chorus on Touch Too Much was a bit distasteful to me and almost pushed this one down to a 4 but the bottom line is this is just a remarkable band with amazing feel and groove and basically every moment of this is enjoyable.

I used to hate this lot when I was a kid. Hated all “metal” because I was a bit of a mod. So I started listening to them a while ago and they’ve done some bloody good albums and this is one of them.
If you like AC/DC this album is perfect. I like AC/DC well enough, but not enough to give this album a 5. All of the songs sound pretty similar.

There can't be many bands that have had 50 year careers, lost their singer, and still sound exactly the same on album 17 as they did on album 1. AC/DC's commitment to not evolving their sound even one iota and making the same album time and again is incredible. Again, this is big, basic, fun, balls out rock. It does exactly what it set out to do, but no-one needs to hear more than one AC/DC record, and I heard 'Back in Black' first. Rating: 3/5 Playlist track: Highway to Hell Date listened: 19/06/23

Is the album more than the single? Walk All Over You has a strong showing. Beating Around The Bush is another strong track. Night Prowler is a strong closer. So this album is mid at best, but I am partiatal to the AC/DC sound. The lyrics are pretty cringe at times but I love that classic guitar tone.
Title track is still a classic and highly enjoyable, I wish the sound varied a bit as it all seems incredibly one lane but I appreciate this was the sound back then and still enjoy it. I personally found the second half of the album more enjoyable that the first half due to tracks like Walk All Over You pulling the first half down, contrasted by my favourite tracks such as Beating Around the Bush and Shot Down in Flames being included in the second half. Not an album I can see myself listening to a great amount, I'm not a major fan of classic hard rock as it stands, and this album hasn't quite changed my mind yet. Favourite tracks off first listen are Girls Got Rhythm, Beating Around the Bush, Shot Down in Flames, Love Hungry Man & Night Prowler. Least favourite tracks are Walk All Over You & Get It Hot.
This is a really great record, such amazing guitar work throughout and the energy is infectious. I had never spent much time getting into full AC/DC records growing up because their hits were already so ever-present. I love their hits but it's definitely worth going into their deeper catalog because even songs that didn't become singles have the same style of catchy riffs and fun lyrics. Before listening to this album today, I had only heard Thunderstruck, Back in Black, and Highway to Hell. This album was literally 40 minutes of Highway to Hell, and I thoroughly enjoyed it. Yes, they could've been a little more creative, but what works works. What can I say. 4/5 stars easily.
Pretty straightforward. Most of the music is about having sex. Fairly bereft of known songs. Kinda got tiring towards the end. At least it was easy to listen to, though. I'm stuck between a 2 and a 3 but Moby has me feeling slightly less charitable that I'd maybe normally be. Standouts: Highway to Hell, Touch Too Much, Beating Around the Bush

I didn't really know the Bon Scott story until recently and now I find this album sadly ironic. I also find the idea that the difference between this and Back in Black is filler funny. AC/DC is nothing but lean. Which is part of their problem, they created a formula for their sound and went with it. The filler is just stuff that they didn't release as singles, because I don't think the quality of songs ever lets up on this album. This is basically a call for help from Bon that wasn't heard. It actually fills me with a bit of dread now. Ultimately, it is fun. It is one of two for sure essential albums by the band, the other being Back in Black. Sure the fans will throw Dirty Deeds out as well and honestly, I think through Let There Be Rock they are very solid (and Powerage mostly suffers from them straying from the formula.) Anyhow, this band made these two unequivocal masterpieces. AC/DC is an important band though. Mutt made them marketable and by extension created a world where Hair Metal ruled the airwaves, GNR dominated sales, and ultimately - when combined with the indie movement in the eighties - allowed the harder music when Punk broke to be palatable by the masses and marketed as Alternative. If this album had not been a monster followed by a behemoth none of that happens the way it did.
AC/DC are/were (are they still going?) very consistent at what they do, and this is indeed an AC/DC record. I like what they do, so it's all good. 3 / 5 stars.

I am sorry to trot out the old cliche, but I don't know what else to say. AC/DC is fun as hell to listen to for about 10 minutes. The repetition just gets dull over the course of an entire album.

Words aren't enough. I love this band. I remember exactly where I was when I heard Bon Scott had died. They were never the same again - Back in Black was more successful (and I love it and saw them on the Hells Bells tour in 1980), but the Bon Scott material has never been equalled.
Factory issue, official seal, AC/DC hard rock. Obviously less technically impressive than your Motorheads or Van Halens, but it's solid fun hard rock.
Title track is played to death and doesn't do anything good for me anymore. Girl's got rhythm is really good though. Record has really good drive (tempo, guitar riffs and drum rhythms). Didn't expect this record to be this impressive overall.

This is another album I listened to a LOT as a teenager, mainly because so many of their songs are easy to play well on the guitar. The immaturity of the lyrics probably appealed to me at some point too. These days, it doesn't do that much for me, but there are a handful of great tracks on here; Highway to Hell, Touch Too Much, Shot Down in Flames, If You Want Blood. They are mostly variations of the same 3 or 4 chords though at the end of the day!

Classic but hard rock is not my cup of tea. Some great songs in here such as self-titled, Touch Too Much, and Night Prowler. Personally, too many repetitive riffs over saturated across the album.
Of all the hard rock bands and albums, AC/DC hit the sweet spot for gen X with Highway to Hell. It was just loud and heavy enough that dads everywhere in their 40s/50s today love the sense of rebellion, but not too loud or heavy that they're scared by it. To this day, old farts will call into the local classic rock radio station, spouting "J-Lac, b'y can you play some 'Tunderstruck by h'A.C.D.C. K-Rack racks!" And then they crack another beer. The band knows what they're good at and lean heavy into it. Blues riffs with heavy distortion, competent rhythm section, big face-melting solos, goblin vocals. AC/DC are effortlessly cool for 70's in a practical, working man way. The problem largely rests in their lack of consistent quality: you've heard one AC/DC song, you've heard most of them. The exception is their hit songs, which are usually quite good! There is only one hit song on this album. Can you guess what it is? AC/DC stews around in passable hard rock, usually quite bland and unremarkable. Most of Highway to Hell is not worth more than a second look, but you can rip the opening track for your road trip mixtape, so it's got some value in there.

Just as sure as a Gibson SG's tone is dirty and sweet, if you liked rock of any kind in the 80s, you had to acknowledge AC/DC. Like maybe you put a button or patch on your jean jacket on one end of the spectrum or at the other end you knew Highway to Hell at least and would throw horns when it came on. Coming out in '79, none of this was my soundtrack and it definitely wasn't my look, but all them older kids made sure I heard it. Maybe you're like me and find it hard to truck with an album oozing objectification out of nearly every pore, but casual, mid-tempo eighties rock rarely sounds as good as AC/DC's output here and on Back in Black.

This a decent rock album, not too audacious, just plain good solid rock and roll. You might find it a tad flavorless after a bit (like gum you've chewed for too long), but it will still be enjoyable.
