Reviews (page 11 of 13)

Just AC/DC being some hard ass mother f**kers.

Just solid, good (not spectacular) rock n roll. I wish AC/DC was as flashy as hard rock ever got. I feel like the rock trends in the 1980s I really don't care for. AC/DC to me feels like the last simplistic power chord, hard rock band before hair metal and cornball antics ruled the day. I'll listen to AC/DC over any hair band from the 80s.

Fun and enjoyable although it becomes repetitive. Wish hard rock had stayed like this.

Excellent listen.

I mean sure, fine.

The title track gets 6 out of 5 stars. The rest of the album's solid hard rock, but not terribly remarkable. 3.5 stars.

5/10. Highway to Hell is a classic, Touch Too Much was a nice throwback, but this album felt like listening to the same song for 40 minutes straight

Jesus fuck this album cover is hideous. Let's deep fry the shit out of a picture of 5 dudes who all have a bit too much Neanderthal DNA. Musically, I’ll only ever return to this album if I want to head Highway to Hell and 9 songs that song like but are slightly worse than Highway to Hell. 6/10

Meh. Classic rock isn't my thing

Like much of this kind of music I enjoy 2-3 songs in a row but more than that and it gets tiring and blends together a bit

An all time classic rock album

Solid dad rock

not my style of rock but I can see the appeal for the time it belonged to. i can picture rocking out to this at an early 80s party. enjoyed the last two tracks of the album most.

My review of Back in Black was that AC/DC only has one level. That is an apt review of Highway to Hell as well. It's all just a Touch Too Much.

Honestly, I’ve tried getting into this album. I’ve tried. But it just doesn’t do it for me. Even Highway To Hell (song) trails off into something that I’m not super pumped about by the end. My most prevalent thought is about the line, “She’s got the backseat rhythm” from Girls Got Rhythm. Does that mean he likes the way her back side moves or does it mean she likes to have sex in the backseat of a car. I have no idea the answer. What I do know is that AC/DC’s lyrics are too obsessed with getting chicks.

All great songs individually and this has some of ACDC's biggest hits, but man 40 minutes of ACDC is just too damn much for me. 5/10

Great classic album but songs sounds so similar

Bon Scott with an incredible, and unfortunately final performance. The guitar tone on this is iconic as well. Great hard rock album, but some forgettable tracks and as with most AC/DC it’s quite repetitive.

All the songs on this album sound the same, wtf.

Puh acdc hält. Nicht besonders außer highway to hell

Now this is cock rock done right. Aussie incorrigibles with ten songs about one thing - the highway to hell is slippery indeed. It’s base but knows it, and though every song sounds like the one before, it’s a good song sound, and the band takes itself exactly unseriously enough. Inimitable vocals, massive guitar and throbbing rhythm section. Throbbing indeed.

Yeah ok! All very samey. Very of the times, I can imagine myself drinking to this whilst getting ready to meet pals/ night out.

AC/DC are the exemplars of hard rock, post-Zep but pre-Hair Metal. And you can hear the influence of the former on them, and their influence on the latter. No hard rock riffs feel more natural and inevitable than Angus Young's, and his tone and time are to die for. (Just listen to other guitarists try to play his "simple" riffs.) Having said that, this is a one-vibe/one-harmonic-formula/one tempo band, so there's not much to be gained from listening to an entire record. Standout tracks are excellent, though--the title track and "touch too much"

Such amazing riffs. Phil Rudd is a master at being exactly the drummer necessary. The vocals are lengendary. But the lyrics...Oh dear God those lyrics. Listening to AC/DC makes me appreciate David Lee Rother. His lyrics were just as dopy, but he was always in on the joke. Bon Scott never gives me the same feeling.

this was the definition of mid to me

eh, i used to hate AC/DC but have come around on them a bit in recent years. they've got like eight good songs but unfortunately only one of them is on this album. after the title track, this album doesn't really go anywhere or do anything exciting, it just all sounds the same. if you really like the one 40-minute AC/DC song they wrote, then you'll love this album, but it was just ok for me. favorites: highway to hell, touch too much

Kinda mid

Honestly it's good fun, but it's 10 times the same song. Highway to Hell is rightfully the title track, most of the rest is the same. Good to turn on if you want to not pay attention to music

Guy sounds like Tina Turner. Tempted to give it an extra star for this line: "she had the body of Venus with arms"

Nice listen

Not my favorite AC/DC album, but still a classic, not listening to this style much these days

Repetitive but energetic

On tällä paikkansa maailmassa, vaikkei paras levy olekaan. Puoleen väliin nää levyt jaksaa kuunnella ennen kun alkaa maistuu samalta jauhamiselta. Täähän on mainio sellainen "hitit ja himaan" -bändi kyllä! 3/5

I think this is a pretty fun album to listen to. its also a good album to just listen to in the background because it has a-lot of fun songs 3.5

Bon Scott's last album and it's in their top three albums, but it never really hit with me. It has Highway to Hell (obviously) but the rest is just .... there

Some iconic songs but overplayed

3.5/5 - for me 3 or 4 songs really stood out but the album is quite repetitive

Great album. I think if I was reviewing it at release it would score higher, listening today it sounds a little formulaic though that's probably partly down to the popularity of their sound. Highway to hell is one of the best album openers I've heard. I did kinda prefer the lyric writing from previous AC DC albums like powerage that tackled more serious subjects.

Major Americana but wasn't for me. I liked some of the lyrics and the simple yet driving guitars

AC/DC excels at writing killer riffs and good blues rock. The rest is all details. I wouldn’t call them groundbreaking or anything, but their sound is unique and that counts for something. This is one of their two best albums and is a quick hard hitting album. It has quite a few hits making it one of the best rock albums of the late 70s. It does sound similar throughout, but to be fair, that’s exactly what they’re trying to do.

Classic , reminds me of the high school gang .

Well teenage Chloe was really into AC/DC and the first few songs I was really into... but by the end I was kind of over it and songs weren't that distinctive anymore. Total respect for the album but won't be coming back in a hurry

Love the guitarwork on Beating Around the Bush. Sounds inspired by Oh Well by Fleetwood Mac. Groovy bass on Love Hungry Man

AC/DC rocks, this album doesn't break out for me though. Still very enjoyably

I mean, it's AC/DC - you get the good and the bad. The title track is of course phenomenal, and some others are good (I really liked Walk Over You), but at the same time you really get the feeling that there's no difference between songs. Not their best work to be honest.

the opening song is legendary but the rest of the albums sounds all the same... no highs, it's all pretty average

Well, I'm not a fan of Acca Dacca, their beats are really annoying, as is their vocal. They struck gold with a highly regarded titular single, but otherwise it's just a slug tempo mix of the most boring drums.

basic rock and roll. if you know AC/DC you know this album. it has some stand out parts and i might listen to a few songs again but overall nothing special.

I don't know why, but AC/DC has never really been my cup of tea...

Just so good. Still holds up.

Not much to say here. It's AC/DC and Classic Hard Rock, that most people probably already heard at least once in their lives. It's also definitely not a meme, that most AC/DC songs just sound the same, because it's true for this one. Seems like a lot of the songs are just filler for the big hits on this. I do enjoy some of their individual songs, but I don't think I would come back to listen to a full album from them. The songs that are good, are really great. Highway to Hell, Touch Too Much and maybe even If You Want Blood are just very fun to listen to.

Not bad, not really my thing.

nothing special

BL: AC/DC is a group my father likes a lot. To me they do have some real stadium shaker rock anthems, but the statement that they made the same album 20 times is absolutely true. I suppose I’ll see when I listen to this one. AL: my hypothesis was correct. The album started strong but by track 5 I knew I was just listening to the same stuff. I suppose the lyrical or melodic appeal has never been what people come to AC/DC for, but the Young’s guitar sonics, which are outstanding here. However there’s not much else going for it FT: “walk all over you” 3/5

Ac/dc - every song is pretty much stock standard ac/dc. Highway to hell is the winner obviously

I enjoyed the album and I liked each of the songs independently, but each of the songs sound the same to each other so it was harder to listen to the entire album

Just rocks.

It's ok. Got some great songs, but it's AC/DC so they're all a bit samey.

Heck yeah. Good, I see why Highway to Hell is the only one you ever here though

it's fine, it's ac/dc odds are you've listened to a song or two from this album whether you wanted to or not. maybe it's not the most interesting thing in the world but nothing much to hate here.

Never listened to an AC/DC album in full - and it was good fun! Did get a bit samey after a while, I'm never going to be one to go through their whole back catalogue. But for 40 minutes it's a good time - and Highway to Hell (the song) is a real banger.

Honestly was gonna give this a 2. But I was distracted and the album ran thru twice and idk its kinda good man.

So much of this is a bit generic. But still solid.

Big, dumb, loud fun. Significant only for being Bon’s last album.

Better than I expected. I'm still not a fan of this band overall.

Not a massive fan, but some proper rock bangers on this album.

Titular track was best, alright album

it’s an album i’ve listened to dozens of times through my childhood, so there’s some nostalgia here, but i was disappointed. of course the songs are well done and the singles are pretty great, but it feels a bit soulless — not sure if it’s just because it’s so iconic, but there’s no “there” there. still solid though

A girl once said she liked how I sing Highway to Hell ★★★★★ Yes, it sounds the same all the way through, same as Back in Black, but I didn't mind it this time

There can't be many bands that have had 50 year careers, lost their singer, and still sound exactly the same on album 17 as they did on album 1. AC/DC's commitment to not evolving their sound even one iota and making the same album time and again is incredible. Again, this is big, basic, fun, balls out rock. It does exactly what it set out to do, but no-one needs to hear more than one AC/DC record, and I heard 'Back in Black' first. Rating: 3/5 Playlist track: Highway to Hell Date listened: 19/06/23

It was fine? It's a classic for a reason.

Banger

Heard it before?: Yes Enjoy it?: Yeah, very enjoyable dad rock that packs punches galore Favourite song: Track 4 - Touch Too Much

Title track is still a classic and highly enjoyable, I wish the sound varied a bit as it all seems incredibly one lane but I appreciate this was the sound back then and still enjoy it. I personally found the second half of the album more enjoyable that the first half due to tracks like Walk All Over You pulling the first half down, contrasted by my favourite tracks such as Beating Around the Bush and Shot Down in Flames being included in the second half. Not an album I can see myself listening to a great amount, I'm not a major fan of classic hard rock as it stands, and this album hasn't quite changed my mind yet. Favourite tracks off first listen are Girls Got Rhythm, Beating Around the Bush, Shot Down in Flames, Love Hungry Man & Night Prowler. Least favourite tracks are Walk All Over You & Get It Hot.

Just solid rock throughout thought It'd be better overall but a lot of the songs were quite similar

Is this original? Nope. Is it clever? Nope. Is it just a whole load of fun? Fuck Yeah!

It is what it is. Fun in the moment, but mostly forgettable. 3/5.

AC/DC are/were (are they still going?) very consistent at what they do, and this is indeed an AC/DC record. I like what they do, so it's all good. 3 / 5 stars.

I am sorry to trot out the old cliche, but I don't know what else to say. AC/DC is fun as hell to listen to for about 10 minutes. The repetition just gets dull over the course of an entire album.

Rollo menos Highway to Hell.

Factory issue, official seal, AC/DC hard rock. Obviously less technically impressive than your Motorheads or Van Halens, but it's solid fun hard rock.

it aight

This is another album I listened to a LOT as a teenager, mainly because so many of their songs are easy to play well on the guitar. The immaturity of the lyrics probably appealed to me at some point too. These days, it doesn't do that much for me, but there are a handful of great tracks on here; Highway to Hell, Touch Too Much, Shot Down in Flames, If You Want Blood. They are mostly variations of the same 3 or 4 chords though at the end of the day!

Doesn’t quite have the bangers of Back in Black. Most of its is semi-jammy but I’d just take BiB any day over it. 5/10

Love me ‘till I’m limbless Aching and sore Enough to stop a freight train Or start the third world war

Rivig klassisk hårdrock.

It’s the same song over and over. But I guess it’s a good song. 6.5/10 Fave:Touch too much

Every song sounds the same, but it's a good sound. They got upon a winning formula for sure, but I don't have any reason to listen to this album ever again.

The title track being catchy and anthemic is the only appealing part of this album. Lyrics have a bit of a creeper/predator feel to them. Mostly boring arena rock.

It was about what you expect when you hear AC/DC. Now I will say this listen came while I headed down through some adverse weather that was pretty cool. Nothing insane kinda wish it was another AC/DC album

Trying to limit the bias, but there’s something different about listening to Highway to Hell before having a tire blowout on the interstate and proceeding to shelter from a tornado in an Autozone in rural IL. I wish this was Back in Black which has all the hits that this one was missing, but still good vibes regardless.

It’s a fun album everyone knows. Not a lot to dislike about it but not a lot to love for me either. I reckon I’d have loved this when I was 16, but that sort of thing passes me by now. Obviously a massive record for the genre, and it’s full of riffs / solos etc., cant knock it from that point of view. Maybe it’s just been done to death?

I think I prefer Back in Black.

I mean, it's hard not to enjoy the sound, but it all sounds the same. Wouldn't call myself an AC/DC fan, or of this stadium rock genre. Had a mate who loved KISS, and I never really got it. Wouldn't choose to put an album on, but the odd song every now and again is decent enough.

It was a good album. Outside of the title track not a lot of super well known hits. It was relatively short. It is better than a 3 not really a 4. I will round down.

Some fun stuff on here, but I listened to it at 7am which is not a vibe.

A few years ago I would have said that AC/DC is like my least favorite band, and while I still can't say I'm a huge fan, I at least respect the craft, and their Bon Scott era stuff is pretty solid. This album is pretty decent front to back, not my cup of tea, but the influence on douchey glam metal throughout the 80s is clear (and served a lot better here)

It's like, OK.

What would rock n roll be without this release? Though it’s a little too samesy throughout and from then on with the Aussie giants there can be no denying that this album fucking rocks!

The greatest band ever to write the same song 400 times and remain famous. I'll give this album its props, because it's managed to remain integral to any teenager learning about rock music for the first time. It's essential listening, but if AC/DC is still your favorite band after however many years, let's talk.

Solid rock songs! But most of them just doesent grab me like they should. There is a staleness in the sound. I am missing the bigger soundscape found with Led Zeppelin for example

Hard rock- I enjoyed it more then I thought I would. I feel like a live concert in a park would be great for this band. Or a hard workout. But its definitely hard to listen to if you’re just doing chores around the house.

Todas suenan igual que pdo

The album almost feels cliche at this point. It’s classic rock for a reason.

Rigtig rock n roll, høj energi, skingert, tung elguitar, mange kendte

This album is always fun--I definitely prefer earlier AC/DC when thy were a bit more rough and raw and rock and roll. The production on this album is super smooth and sees them start the transformation in to giant rock superstars. Coincidentally on Bon Scott's last album with the band. It's still great and it was a lot of fun to listen to this for the first time in a while.

C'est du AC/DC, pas grand chose à dire de plus

Driven by generic, power chord riffs. Themes of sex and partying peppered with "satanic" imageries. And of course, an energetic lead by a singer who would soon drink himself to death. Arguably, this is the most "rock'n'roll" album ever.

Definitely a very cool sound, fun songs. But they do all kind of sound the same after a while, same chord patterns/voicings.

1/20- Driving home from work/Before bed

Obviously a solid record with quite a few banger tracks like the title track and If You Want Blood, but only my fourth favorite AC/DC record.

Classic heavy blues metal from my youth. Well above average. Loadsa vocal and guitar cliches but I guess thats what they are about. Relentless bad boy boogies.

High energy and infectious riffs. AC/DC only has two modes, though. One is "hey girl, let's hook up" and the other is "I am the man who loves to rock." It wears thin after awhile, but if you turn your brain off to the actual meat of the lyrical content it's easy to bang your head to.

This album so far is reminiscent of what I think my boyfriend’s dad would’ve maybe grown up listening to - he’d be around 16 years old when this album came out! Not sure if his mom would’ve let him listen to AC/DC, but their style really reflects my bf’s dad’s taste for rock and hard guitar that I know him liking today!

The title track and "If You Want Blood" are iconic. The rest of the album... the instrumentals are just generic AC/DC sounds, and the lyrics are painfully shallow.

Raucous

The inspiration for a lot of music that I like, but I'm not a big fan of AC/DC.

Highway to Hell was the saving grace here ~2.6

3/5.5. This is definitely an AC/DC album. Honestly not bad, just not my favorite music to listen to.

Great ACDC album - a whole album is just too much for me.

I thought I'd already reviewed this album and tracked back to discover I'd had Back in Black. Different vocalist it's true but sounds the same so I'm a bit mystified why we have 2 almost identical albums? I gave the last one a 3.

Full of electrifying music and catchy, lighthearted songwriting. This record didn’t make me think or analyze too much, which I don’t mind doing, it just makes for a good passive listening experience, something I’ll listen to for road trips, for example. It also didn’t get boring because the album went in a different direction each time my attention was slipping.

3.5, kind a classic sound but

AC/DC have essentially been writing the same two songs their whole career. Thankfully they're pretty good songs.

Supremely listenable hard Rock album but only a couple standout tracks

Rollo menos Highway to Hell.

Damn… this rox

Good time rock and roll. Juvenile sure, but fun.

It's fun, not the smartest, but fun

Not one of the greats but totally listenable. I’m thinking 3.5. Can’t decide if that should go up to a four or down to a three

Having heard “Back in Black” recently ahead of this album, I’d have to say I prefer BiB over H2H. The songs on H2H are overall nowhere as memorable as the ones on BiB. Beyond the title track, they have the familiar sound of singing and the band, but the songs don’t here hit the same as they do later with the tragic passing of Bon Scott. I think it’s more a lyrical situation as opposed to anything to do with Scott’s singing though. That said, H2H does have great rock vibes and is still a decent listen overall. Rockin out in your friends’ Charger on the way to a party would be a better ride with this album.

Classic hard rock

It's undeniably fun, I'll give them that. But it's surface level fun that rather bores me.

It’s fine… the songs sound all the same but it’s iconic I suppose.

I was expecting to be disappointed after Back in Black, but I was pleasantly surprised. I guess AC/DC weren't always bad.

Its ACDC baby, is what it is, goods and bads

Don't get me wrong, these guys have always known how to bring the energy and excellent guitar work. Both of these efforts on this album, in the 70s, laid groundwork for hard rock in decades to come. That said, aside from this album's title track, most of these tracks sound the same. The energy and guitar work is there, sure, but they really do start to sound like the same song. There is something to be said about a formula that works, though, because I still find myself toe-tapping and finger-drumming along to this album. So while this album may come off as a bit repetitive, it clearly sparked something important and long-lasting.

touch too much is a major highlight. super thumpy foot stompy rhythm section. Bon Scott sounds badass on it. riffs work well. sounds like the one KISS song I was made to love you or whatever it’s called. this album made me decide that I actually DO kinda enjoy AC/DC. I thought every song sounded too much alike (and they do), but it’s enjoyable similarity for the most part. just sounds like 70s hard rock. Cool solos. 6.1/10.

Good rock and roll.

AC/DC. That's it.

Great opening track but it's a little samey.

Why on earth did I sell this album 20 years ago! Guilty pleasure ;)

Wasn't as bad as I thought it would be. AC/DC is a band where any one song is good, but the songs are similar enough to each other that I'm burnt out by a full album. That did happen on this album, but it wasn't so bad. 3/5

ACDC is iconic but they all sound the same to me.

Great in small doses for me. Classic blues rock, it's upbeat and hard not to tap your foot along to this album. Vocals and repetitivity could be grating but doesn't overstay its welcome.

That one song they are doing over and over again does sound pretty good.

I really like ACDC in small doses, but given the relative sameness of their songs a full album gets to be a bit much. 3/5

Well, I'm in two minds about this one. It's got the iconic title track. But *Back In Black* is obviously the better album out of the two, and I personally don't see the point of including *more* than one AC/DC album in a list of 1001 essential records. Yes, I know those two LPs don't have the same singer (rest in peace, Bon Scott). But AC/DC sounds like such a well-trodden formula by now, with a band that never ever deviated from it, that I feel that room should be given for other sorts of styles and genres... Number of albums left to review or just listen to: 857 Number of albums from the list I find relevant enough to be mandatory: 78 Albums from the list I *might* include in mine later on: 36 (including this one) Albums from the list I will certainly *not* include in mine (many others are more important): 30

It's AC/DC so props for being them. Most songs sound kind of the same.

7/10/22

classic alert

One of the AC/DC top albums. Rock n Roll and Rock on! Old love for this one

There’s a formula they stick to, for sure! Loved “Love Hungry Man.” Pretty sure the last vocal on the album is the lead singer hurling.

It’s a great album but all AC DC albums sound the same without or without Bon no disrespect

The title track slaps and then the rest just kind of happens, bit of a shame really Some great guitar solos though

I should like AC/DC more than I do. They just bleed rock'n'roll. I have a ton of respect for them, especially the Bon Scott era. If I'm being honest though this album is enjoyable, but nothing I ever really want to play by choice. The same could be said for much of their discography.

Iconic !

HIGHWAY TO HELL - Vad ska man säga? Klassiker. Imponerande. WALK ALL OVER YOU - Helt okej låt. Mixar med tempo vilket gör låten intressant. TOUCH TOO MUCH - Får lite Def Leppard vibbar i refrängen med de höga stämmorna. Man märker att det närmar sig 80-tal. BEATING AROUND THE BUSH - Nice riff och med breaks i versen. Bra ös. SHOT DOWN IN FLAMES - Helt okej. Men de ösar på bra. GET IT HOT - Den här känns som en låt man spelar i bilen med öppna fönsterrutor. Gillar groovet. IF YOU WANT BLOOD (YOU'VE GOT IT) -Typiskt intro för AC/DC. Enkel men slagkraftig. Bluesig i 6/8 komp. Tung och go att lyssna på. En av de bästa på plattan.

Should probably listen again properly

Not massively exciting but admirable use of the word "Rock" to allude to anything and everything sexual. Prefer early ZZ Top for a more bluesy rock

I really thought I'd already listened to an AC/DC album on this list but no, it's on my backlog after Happy Mondays, Richard Hawley, and whatever's new next week. Anyway, as far as this album goes. Highway to Hell is a cracker of a song but the rest of the album is pretty mediocre. Being Australian I do have a soft spot for them but it's still not quite a 4 for me.

Interesting here that no matter whether they give 1 or 5 stars, each review says more or less the same thing. And I agree with all of them

Wonderfully, powerfully stupid.

3/5 good but not enough

Not as brash as I remember AC/DC being - bit my kind of music generally but I enjoyed.

There’s a reason why the title track is the one that is widely remembered. They never struck me as an album kind of band, more a live act with a few killer new songs every album or two. Their set list is just epic, but the track lists on albums feel like there’s a bit of filler.

Simple recipe well executed.

26th April 2022 Listened while working in the front room all day. City Real champs league semi final in the evening. Such a fun band, highway to hell the obvious famous track. The album beats along with incessant rhythm but can be a bit one note.

stompy moshy songs, suits being heard live or covered

Got about halfway through. Not my cup of tea

Prob their best album. Some jams. Not my favorite but understand the appeal.

Title track still rocks. So far the rest is fun, but a bit...derivative. Sounds basically like every other AC/DC song. If You Want Blood is cool too.

Not really my flavor of Rock. Favorite Track: Shot Down in Flames

hit and miss really. over-rated

Good fun, don't know if I'd come back to it that much

This album gives me major flashbacks to middle school when I was a "my generation doesn't appreciate music" kid. And it is a good album that is certainly formative to the Hard Rock sound. That being said it is fairly consistent in sound throughout and the only really memorable track is Highway to Hell.

Anything that isn’t on Back in Black is refreshing to hear.

Best Song: Beating Around The Bush. Has that slightly rawer feel that benefits the intended vibe. Worst Song: Walk All Over You. The backing vocals come off really weak here. Overall: Obviously the title track commands a lot of the respect here. Many of the lesser known tracks even lose a bit of the AC/DC edge and feel like they verge into hair metal (Touch Too Much sounds like it could be a Def Leppard song). Also, has to be one of the worst album covers of all time. It looks like its taken from the perspective of a young woman who just asked if she could join her high school's D&D group.

Gat ekki hlustað til enda. Of mikið ac/dc. Sigrún varð brjáluð.

Fun but got boring

I love the fact that some of my favorite baseball closers of all time have used some of these tracks. I’m not a huge AC/DC fan, but I thought this album was decent. I’d definitely low key listen to it on the subway bopping my head or on full blast cruising to a game at spring training in Florida with the top down!

Fun rock album, nothing beyond the title song stood out to me. Enjoyable but not revelatory

It’s AC/DC. Never awful. Never amazing

Good rock album. Probably my second favorite ac/dc album. It’s consistent with its rock tone throughout. Doesn’t let up much but also doesn’t vary. Starts strong but not many other songs are as popular as the title theme. 6.5/10

Maybe not as good as Back in Black, but it's a good 'un.

When I was a kid I remember this band being among the full-on satanic abominations, especially this album cover looking like a horrific glance into perdition. Devil’s children and such. Later I was able to chill out and appreciate the catchy writing and solid rock and roll. I don’t know much of the history of the AC/DC discography, but my impression is this record is not their most remarkable. A stand out track for me though is ‘If You Want Blood’ which also has a phenomenal cover by GWAR. We salute you!

Classic bone head Acca Dacca rock

Starts strong ends strong. Weak middle. Not as good as back in black.

I have a mate named Malcom Young. He called his son Angus. That is so Hard Rock Aussie right there. Oh and Bon Scott left his underwear in my mum's shower. Good times.

Listenin' easy Lovin' the rock Seems I've heard some of these before Aussie classic Lots of riffs Takin' everythin' in my stride Don't need reason Don't need rhyme Are some things that I'd rather do Goin' down Party time Fun when I'm in the mood

honestly, i was never a huge fan of AC/DC, but i get the appeal. by my recollection of 1979, this would've fit right in. feels like a solid representation of the time, like a lot of other albums on this list.

it says AC/DC, so thats exactly what you get. can't really complain, they do being AC/DC very well and its a tried and tested thing. i can take the odd track here and there, but a whole album is a bit much for me. love the schoolboy thing because i don't understand it. i don't want to know the reason because i like it as a weird surrealist gesture from an otherwise run of the mill looking rock band.

I suppose some aspects of it are very good. I'm just never really going to be into something that is just so 'rock'. Although I love several sub genres, all out, blue jeans - black t shirt- rock like this just doesn't do anything for me. It's just alright.

Not as good as ACxDC. Are ACxDC on this list? They better had be. Some Anti-Christ Demoncore to warm your cockles. Took Bort Ainsworth to see ACxDC once, I don't think he enjoyed it. Probably would have preferred AC/DC.

Hahaha as a kid I thought they were satanists. I thought this album was probably very scary and that these dudes were seriously dangerous. Then I grow up and realize these album covers and the satan vibe were pretty much stoking the flames of all the uptight assholes who thought all rock n roll was devil's music. Hahaha. Anyway. AC/DC seems like the most likely band of this time to actually have some satanistic tendencies, but that's okay because this is a pretty great album. Songs with dumb names like 'Beating Around the Bush'... I mean... Dumb and scary, just like rock should be?

This used to be my favourite Acca Dacca album but has slipped in recent years. Why? For all its craft, it sounds like the band with the handbrake on. If it's possible to say so, this is a polite AC/DC record, and I don't want a polite AC/DC record.

AC/DC is usually considered as over-rated, but they may also be under-appreciated. It is simply rock-n-roll. You can hear their influence in some of the garage-band revivalist like JET. They are worth another open-minded listen.

This is classic rock 3+

Oof, okay. So AC/DC aren't *terrible*, they have a degree of self-awareness that other big dumb rock bands like Metallica and Aerosmith are completely lacking. Their riffs and grooves were simple and effective for what they were, but I'm not going to pretend to like them. I made a comparison a few months back that AC/DC were to rock what Lil' Jon was to hip-hop, and I stand by that. I can drunkenly shout along to both if I'm in the right headspace. But I'm going to apply the same metric to AC/DC that I did to Green Day: If we give influential albums credit for the good music that was inspired by them, we have to also apply the blame when they inspire absolute garbage, and AC/DC has inspired some of the most garbage. Alongside Led Zeppelin, Aerosmith, and a few others, they deserve a lot of blame for the universally terrible hair metal genre to follow them in the 80s. This is probably going to place this album in the low 3's for me. We'll see, I haven't listened to it in like a decade outside of the singles that I'm forced to hear literally every day on the butt rock radio station at work.

Back when I was 13 and discovering classic rock for the first time, sure, this album kicked some ass. It's never been my favorite album by them, nor is it even my favorite from the Bon Scott era. It's an album loaded with power and insanity, as usual by the very talented Young brothers, but its nothing with flavor or variety. Anybody who's listened to at least 5 songs by AC/DC can tell you almost all their songs sound the same, and beyond the guitar solos, there is nothing complex about their compositions. Night Prowler is the closest we get to something that sounds slightly different than the other songs, with it's ominous tone and swing-like rhythm, but ultimately it sort of course corrects into that signature, crunchy sound AC/DC is known for. Highway to Hell will always be the anthem that millions will associate with hard rock, you can't deny the legacy of that song, nor this album. For the impact it had on the hard rock/metal genre, especially coming out of the 70's, and for the fun this record gives, I won't say it's bad. But I find it insanely overrated against other albums of the year: Overkill by Motorhead, Van Halen II, Evolution by Journey, Dynasty by KISS, Candy-O by The Cars, or Pinky Floyd's The Wall. Favorite Song: Girls Got Rhythm Least Favorite: Touch Too Much

An AC/DC rock classic

Not my cup of tea but the boys know how to play

I know this is very good, and there are some songs I really like. But, as a millennial growing up in the 90s watching truck commercials backed by AC/DC tracks, this music sounds like a midlife crisis.

Ehhhhh I’ve always thought they were a little overrated. You’ve heard one AC/DC song you’ve heard them all. This album has pretty much 10 of the exact same song. 2.5/5

standard acdc album

If You want blood saves the album

I feel like classic rock radio has ruined AC/DC for me. I'm very aware of all of the songs that get played on the radio, and while they're "fine" and I have no problem with them, they never really made me want to seek out their albums. It's fine, good, sexually-charged rockin'. Favorite tracks: "Girl's Got Rhythm", "If You Want Blood (You've Got It)"

so angus young's voice is iconic and awesome and bon scott can shred, but man is the song structure ever basic. it seems like they maybe wrote 3 unique songs for this album and then like changed up the lyrics and tempo slightly of highway to hell 6 times and called it an lp. despite all that it still rocks hard.

Solid AC/DC album. Not my favorite (Powerage and Back in Black take the crown, but it's even beat by Dirty Deeds). Of course there's the complaint that the songs tend to sound the same. The power chords rock with ongoing riffs which draws in the audience with spotlighted solos. It's AC/DC in their prime but doesn't offer much beyond the title track.

I thought maybe I'd like AC/DC better when I wasn't listening to the A-sides over FM radio. Not really. Lyrics like a 19 year old with a thesaurus just read penthouse letters.

It's technically well made and decent, I guess, but the songs get a little repetitive, and I don't love this sub-genre of "hard rock about girls" enough to enjoy it all the way through. Title track is still fire!

Didn't sound bad. Didn't sound particularly interesting either though.

Thought I would enjoy this more. Is good. Prefer back in black

Classic

Nope! Great album but I’m just not an ac/dc fan.

Very boring, every song is the same. I'm a bit disappointed even if I was not expecting much

I literally rolled my eyes when I saw it was another AC/DC album

Some classic rock n roll right there. Pretty middle of the road. Worth a revisit

Instant classic. Enjoyed the first 3/4 of the album. Started becoming repetitive soon after

Classic rock, classic tunes. More than a bit overplayed at this point, but there's a reason for that. I don't get all jazzed up like some for AC/DC but I get why they do.

Ya know, it's fine. I like ACDC. Every album has some great songs. For me though, there's no need to go beyond the greatest hits.

I feel like AC/DC is very polarizing, either you have affection for them and the fact that every song is basically the exact same, or you despise them. Highway to Hell is on this one, so I gotta give it points.

Good album. Rocking tunes. Nothing too innovative but they have their sound

Title track, what else can I say.

Better than I hoped for. Especially Touch Too Much!

On the plus side, this album has a good energetic feel to it. On the minus side, it's all a bit samey, the lyrics are pretty crass, and the whole thing is a bit cliched.

All ten songs sound exactly like *Highway to Hell*.

Meh. It’s like one 42-minute long song.

A lot of these hard rock bands have their one iconic song on an album, which they put first, and then just a long series of diminishing returns, as they do similar, but less good songs. This is a cracking example. No-one can deny that the title track absolutely slaps, but for the rest of it you're left with a singer who sounds like he's really straining to reach any semblance of melody, guitars that basically do the same tricks and flicks over and over again, and very little of interest. I think this is quite a step down from Back in Black to be honest.

Gets really fucking old after a while. It’s fun initially but after a while all the songs just start to blend together. Title track is pretty good though, that’s why it’s not a one star.

Album carried by the title track: the other songs are enjoyable but anonymous, the AC/DC's "you listen to one song and you listened to them all". Deserves more than 2 but definitely not 3 stars.

sorry to say because this is the Dad Rock WebsiteTM but ac/dc, metalica and all of those are completely indistinguishable to me. a lot of the songs sound the same and while i guess theyre technically impressive they do not interest me in the slightest

Horny! Fun. Very samey. Night prowler is a good bluesy anthem. 2.5 rounded to 3

I didn’t like it

Menos Walk All Over You que me ha gustado de verdad.

Beside the obvious reason why this album is meaningful as the eponymous track makes or breaks this record, it feels quite bland compared to AC/DC's next record in Back to Black. It is also on the monotonous side with too many songs sounding like a Highway to Hell rip-off. 7/10 [DROP]

Tiresome, repetitive and annoying. You've heard the first track and you've heard them all... I'll give credit to the energy, the guitar riffs and the high octane vocal delivery - even if he sounds like a goblin giving birth, it still fits with the overall sound of the record. AC/DC is fine for a song or two, but 41 minutes of it is not for the faint of heart. Average. 2.5/5

Album #106: Highway to Hell - AC/DC Genre (W): Hard rock, blues rock Singles: Highway to Hell, Girls Got Rhythm, Touch Too Much I have not listened to this album before. Thoughts?: I love Highway to Hell, the song. I think it’s a song with catchy songwriting and a thunderous riff. And a few of these songs are pretty good too. However, I’ve noticed that a lot of these songs sound pretty much the same, so therefore, the album starts to feel stale and boring. Great opening, but almost everything else lacks. Favorite songs: Highway to Hell, Girls Got Rhythm, Touch Too Much, Beating Around the Bush

My fourth 70s record in a row. This band were never one of my favourites, though I have some respect for length and breadth of their popularity. Title track has a certain effectiveness (good at what it does). It occurs to me that I should compare/contrast this music (which I would have seen as blokes' pub rock) with the guitar-y punk I was often hearing at the time (which was also often quite blokey, but not only). Both could have a lot of repetitive unison guitar/bass, and lots of shouty tenor vocals. AC/DC is definitely slower (sometimes plodding in pub rock mode), also its energy relies on accuracy of playing simple rhythms, where punk was frantic and desperate, and commonly energy and inspiration were more important than accuracy. AC/DC has swagger, but zero irony. AC/DC has lots of lyrics about sex, which sound braggart, whereas punk would be more delirious without claims of mastery. AC/DC has verse, where the best punk had poetry. Is that too harsh? Here are some stand out AC/DC lyrics: "Don't know what your name is ... I want to take you tonight ... Don't want no conversation ... all I want to do is make a meal out of you, 'Cause I'm a love hungry man". (And this is not a critique but an anthem.) First nine songs, I'd say negligible musical or emotional variety. Final song, Night Prowler, brings some dynamic range, but the lyrics (and total tone of music and delivery) are repugnant. So, such variety of emotional engagements as is offered, is not attractive. I am reinforced in my sense of "what AC/DC sounds like", but there is nothing here I would want to play again. It's Pretty Poor, 3/10.

good classic rock, makes me want to rewatch supernatural lol. if i'm being honest it's mostly the title track that does it for me though.

Better than the last one , but still too heavy

it sounded pretty good probably a 2.9

this is a better album than the one with “weve got big balls” but barely. these dudes are cornball, cheesebuckets. yikes.

Agnes and his absolutely vibe factory is the only thing keeping this out the 1 bucket. Idiom Rock, sing the hook 3 times, rip a solo, so damn predictable every track. I knew it was gunna do this dang trick lol

it's really unfortunate how much better AC/DC was in the Bon Scott era. i think this album does fall into the AC/DC pit of having only one song repeated a bunch, but at least it's a pretty solid song this time. hell, (pun intended) i think the world would be missing something without the title track. top shelf boomer rock. i listen to it often, but i listen to this album never (other than my first listen and for this project), because it never quite perfects the formula again. deserves to be one of the 1001? i think ignoring this band would be a misstep even if i find them easy to leave in the past. but keep it to this, ok?

repetitivo

Look, I dont dislike this band, but most of their songs sound the same to me. This whole album blended together and before I knew it the album ended. Ok, maybe I don't really like AC/DC

Not crazy about the album, but I like how it made me feel. I felt like a cool older brother 🛹Thank you☺️

ok first of all the album art is honestly pretty sick. i love how the australian version is clearly attempting to censor it but instead just kinda makes it go harder by setting the entire thing on fire. incredible stuff. anyway, it's pretty appropriate that this album is titled "highway to hell". not only because the track of the same name is the first thing on here, but also because each of the other 9 tracks on here might as well also be "highway to hell" but played at a slightly different speed. i've accused quite a few albums of being samey at this point but they're really taking the piss with this one. the only song on this album that feels like it might be able to pass as a separate piece and not just a slight mutation of the title track is "night prowler", and that's almost entirely down to it being slow enough in comparison that it could potentially trick me into thinking it's something different if i'm not paying attention. highway to hell isn't a bad song, but surely they could've have tried playing something else at least once. i'm feeling real let down by this album given how much fun i was having looking at the cover art. what the fuck man,

I’m biased. I absolutely despise AC/DC - terrible. I’ll give two stars just to be somewhat fair.

I've never gotten the appeal of this band. Sure the single is kind of catchy, but the rest is all just super generic anglicized blues rock. The songs are all about sex, nothing to really write home about once the fog of adolescence has cleared. It's not terrible, but they didn't push anything forward musically, it's all pretty safe and predictable. 2/5

I don't like them but the title song is pretty catchy

Ok, not my thing

Not a huge AC/DC fan recognize the title track, but everything else was new to me

AC/DC Live is really the only album you need to hear from AC/DC. Highway to Hell is a great song. There are other good songs. But in my opinion, after the hits, most of AC/DC albums are basically filler. I would listen to different records by them before I put this one back on. Again, AC/DC Live, Back in Black or greatest hits is where most people will be happy.

still dont like how they sound, at all

It's black eyed peas, Miley, fergy, drinking and dancing and fucking party music, but for mens

This album is like 2 and a half stars. I was already familiar with a lot of the songs on the album. I actually do like a lot of the songs on this album, I have more than half the songs in my likes on Spotify. I think I judge the albums I listen to by how likely I am to add the songs into my current playlist and actually go back and want to listen to it again. For some reason I don’t have the option to rate this one using the stars.

I'm too old for this.

Not a fan

Clasico

Honestly, I think this album, despite being a hallmark of hard rock is not musically interesting in the slightest. While much of the songs here have catchy hooks, it lacks substance with repeated song forms ad nauseam which made this album a slog to get through. This is like the vanilla ice cream of rock music, it's inoffensive (as crazy as it is to say nowadays given the perception of AC/DC during the era) but there are so many more interesting and better things out there that it's like why even bother?

Christ, I'm only 10% of the way through, and this list already has way too many hairy white men wailing about how much they like sex while accompanied by blues guitar solos. I honestly cannot understand why anyone thinks I need to listen to SO MUCH of this shite before I die, or what is supposed to make this particular album stand out from all of the others. It's not openly racist or as horribly misogynist as some of the others I've had to endure, which is something.

ACDC viser her at de behersker denne kraften.

I've never been a big AC/DC fan aside from a coupla tracks, and never go out of my way to listen to them. Listening to a full album after all these years has not changed that opinion. Very samey hard rock, usually with juvenile lyrics. I'll take Bon Scott over Brian Johnson, but could live without hearing either version ever again.

Not a big fan.

not my speed

low 2 insane commitment to writing the same song over and over. its paint by numbers. the singer especially is so generic and could be any one of a number of people. that being said the song they keep writing over and over is pretty fun.

I was pretty disappointed by this tbh. I had never listened to an AC/DC album before (though we've all endlessly heard the hits in movies/tv shows/commercials) and was hoping for some great discovery beyond the singles. what I found was a lot of unwarranted repetition, needless refrains, empty posturing, and shouting for shouting's sake. there are a couple moments that crack through that and stand out -- "Highway to Hell" and its shout along chorus; the bridge and solo in "Walk All Over You" (reminded me of some fiery Ty Segall moments) -- unfortunately you have to wade thru a slog of an intro/verse/chorus before you even get to that bridge. maybe there are other AC/DC albums I'd like more? this was not it for me tho.

Highway to hell track is its track, and not until Night Prowler is there anything different.

oh my god ac/dc are so boring they just plod along

Jao šta reći, blast from the past 🤣 nikad ih nisam baš ozbiljno shvaćala, to je bio bend koji se jednostavno slušao svuda, ali ne ciljano. 2/5, 4/10
