Reviews (page 10 of 13)

I enjoyed this, in spite of myself (particularly Night Prowler). I'm not sure I'd make an effort to listen to their other albums, esp post Bon Scott and some of the lyrics were almost repulsively horny. But! I liked seeing where other acts like Amyl and the Sniffers and the guys on tikok who did the 'I'm on smoko, so leave me alone!' video had been influenced by their pub rock forefathers

It’s like so, so many hard rock albums of its fame and its time. Forty minutes of similar guitar power chords and stressed vocals. AC/DC are one of a few bands (perhaps the most famous) that released these albums, and I can’t fault it. It does what it set out to do, and clearly to great effect. Absolutely everyone knows Highway to Hell, or at least its title track. There’s some surprising grooves in Beating Around the Bush and Night Prowler, and what should have been the stratospheric track from this album, Touch Too Much. So as far as 70s/80s hard rock goes, this gets a pass.

Pretty much the same as the last AC/DC we got - hard to dislike its exuberance, but gets a bit samey after a while. I prefer Bon Scott's vocals in this over Brian Johnson's. High three (but marginally higher than Back In Black)

A classic album, maybe a bit monotonous, but still a classic.

horny, masculine, can't help but respect it

Back in '79, half of my chums were really unto AC-DC, Motorhead, etc. Lemmy and co...OK, but AC-DC just left me cold. So, appreciate the prompt to head off and see whether I was misguided. Alas... I see the attraction, but it just does very little for me personally. Seems very calculated and crowd-pleasing to me, rather than a labour of love. I doubt I'll relisten to it.

My parents listened to a lot of classic rock when I was a kid, and that trend rubbed off on me quite a bit. For a while, I stuck with things that they had played a lot: The Beatles, The Rolling Stones, Fleetwood Mac, ZZ Top, and a handful of others. As I got to be an older teenager though, I started branching out into some other artists that they never really listened to, and one of those artists was AC/DC. I bought their live album when I was maybe a senior in high school, and I listened to it constantly. As much as I loved that album, I’ve never listened to one of AC/DC’s studio albums in full, but I’m glad that the day has arrived for me to break that trend! This was fun to listen to, and I’d say it was fine overall. The title track is an absolute masterpiece, and honestly, that song alone may have landed this album on the list, and if that’s truly the case, I can understand that. The guitar riff on that song is one of the few classic rock guitar riffs that I don’t think I’ll ever get tired of. It’s simple, but man, it’s catchy. And when the drumming kicks in? I can’t help but nod along and attempt some really terrible air guitar playing. As someone who grew up in an evangelical household, “Highway to Hell” and AC/DC were so off-limits that no one ever had to say they were off-limits; it was just understood that listening to a song called “Highway to Hell” would surely summon Satan himself. Somehow though, this song still carries a bit of that mystique and forbidden fruit quality with me; it always feels like it’s something I shouldn’t be listening to, and of course that makes it all the more enjoyable. “If You Want Blood,” is easily my second favorite song on the album. The guitar riff is just as simple as the title track, and so is the drumming, but Bon Scott’s vocals really carry this song and make it great. The backing vocals are fantastic too, making this song incredibly fun, and one of the most underrated songs in the band’s catalog. “Love Hungry Man” was good too, and lyrically, it reminds me of the brilliance of “Dirty Deeds Done Dirt Cheap.” The bass playing on this song was easily my favorite on the album as well, and it gave the song a great groove that complimented the lead guitar really well. As for the rest of the album… well, it’s AC/DC. If you came here for a varied sound, you came to the wrong place. But if you came here for some hard rock that you can turn your brain off while you listen to, then you’ll go home happy. As for me? Aside from the three songs I dove into, the rest of the album was fine, but nothing else really grabbed me. A good portion of this album left my brain as soon as it left my ears, but while I was listening to it, it was fine. I hope I get to review Back in Black soon!

Meh 2.5/5

Drank a martini while I listened to this album. I don't really think it's a martini album, but I was in the mood for a vodka drink and a dry martini sounded really good. It wasn't wholly incompatible, ice cold and cutting. It just struck me as a little weird to be sipping a martini while Highway to Hell blasted on my headphones. Anyway, I think it's a 3.

Good rock that also sort of feels like it has rocks in its head. It's very fun, but lacks a certain depth that would help me get even more into it.

Fun, rocking album. Its nice to have something upbeat with some excellent guitar rifts. I would listen again, but the singer's voice gets a little samey after awhile.

For whatever reason, I love the song “Highway to Hell”. I enjoyed the rest of the album just fine. I like to listen to a record like this once in a while, but not often. It’s a very solid three stars for me.

AC/DC is not known for there deep cuts, and they shouldn’t be.

Was expecting to hate this but it wasn't bad!!

I am not a hard rock enthusiast but I make an exception with AC/DC. Good songs with moderate screaming.

More three star ROCK.

It's all right.

Good album that starts off very strong, but gets boring as you go through

It was alright.

solid. better choice could be picked though. could i write poetry to this? n

AC/DC does deserve two spots on this list. One for the Bon Scott era and one for Brian Johnson. Both are terrific Hard Rock singers. Unfortunately, this is far from my favorite of the Bon Scott-fronted albums. "Dirty Deeds Done Dirt Cheap" is a much better example of what they were capable of.

Solid album that was easy to listen to with some big hits. AC/DC has never been my cup of tea but this almost got a 4 out of me. 3.5.

The album flows really well. Every song is typical AC/DC and it's a fun ride. Night Prowler is a fun end to the album being a slower, bluesy song.

classic dad rock, no complaints

Glad that’s both the AC/DC albums out of the way now. To be honest I did prefer this slightly to Back in Black, probably because Brian Johnson’s vocals just sound like a bad impersonation of Bon Scott. I also thought Walk All Over You was a pretty good track.

It would be nice to hear different songs

6/10. A classic song and classic band. I kind of get it but overall not really my thing.

I’ve always said all AC/DC songs sound the same and listening to this album supports that theory. They are fun to listen to but nothing innovative. You know exactly what you are getting when you listen to this album. 3

3.4 1x

Hmmm. Who are these young upstarts? Can’t say I’ve ever experienced something like this. Well. Here’s to new expeditions in music. Nah I’ve obviously heard every AC/DC song as I’ve heard all power chords in any order. Highway to hell is a good song. However, when it’s not being followed by the sultry tones of the Q104 morning drive crew discussing a viral video of a dog farting, there is definitely a longing in my soul. I don’t know what “backseat rhythm” is, but I don’t like it. This song is fine. Kind of grating actually. Walk all over you is too long. That first slow chorus hit pretty hard but the tenth time had me longing for a weather update from Beefer and the Shit on my drive home brought to you by Dude Wipes. This song has an excellent chorus. Very same sounding to all other AC/DC tracks but they found a decent formula and executed well here. Good chorus. A little glam, but a lot of fun. This one has a lot more drive. The sound is dated, but with fresh ears, this one would rip. And it does. Holy hell this is good. I have not only spring a bald spot, but a Harley Davidson muscle shirt has emerged from my skin. I have alerted a local physician. It’s the worst case of white boomer dad-itis he’s ever seen. I’m a sick man. This song was just there. Floated by. I do want blood. This is another monster. Man. I’m liking this and hating that I do. I’m trying to be cool and edgy but I simply will not escape the basic white man allegations. Lock me away, senator. Not an AC/DC ballad. Nooooo. Ok. False alarm. This one isn’t fantastic. Actually, when he says “you’re such a treat, a man’s got to eat,” that probably removed an entire star from the album. Single-handedly. I’m sure Angus Young is turning over in his pile of money having heard my scathing review of the lyrics he didn’t write. Night prowler. Decent, a little listless to end but YOURE LISTENING TO T109.7 THE TESTICLE *pant zip * AND WEVE GOT NOTHING BUT CLASSIC ROCK ALL GOD DAMN DAY *church bell.* AND IF YOU CANT HANDLE THAT, WELL MAYBE YOU AINT GOT NO BALLS *wolf whistle*. AND NOW HERES CHODE AND THE MOOSE MAN. Whether or not these songs come before traffic and weather on the ones, it’s a whole lot of fun. A good album that has a high energy and if it hit my ears in 1979, it probably would’ve knocked me on my ass. Misses out on a little substance and a cohesive album feel, but as a song by song experience, Highway to Hell is a hell of a ride. 3.5 HIGHLIGHTS: Highway to Hell, Touch Too Much, Beating around the Bush, Shot Down in Flames, If You Want Blood (You Got It)

I don't feel much depth but haha I mean its AC/DC so maybe all anyone needed was something to underscore a bender. Definitely feels like 'pure' rock and roll of the era. I just keep thinking about alcohol analogies. 2.5

Imma be honest, I never actually knew that AC/DC changed vocalists before Back In Black. I just assumed the guy’s voice changed a little. This album is like a loaf of white bread. The first slice is pretty good, and every slice after that is more of the same. It’s good enough, but I don’t need to eat the whole loaf.

Kelpo rockia

En oo fani, mut ihan ok laadukas levy

For some reason, I don't think I knew AC/DC was an Australian band. Likely the biggest one to exist by the time this album came out. It all sounds good. It all sounds like you'd imagine the rest of the album sounds from only knowing the title track. Classic rock n' roll. 3.5/5

Hard rock still not my go to genre of music. This album similar to many other hard rock albums with themes that resonate with young males. I was one of those, a long time ago... This album starts and ends strong (Highway to Hell and Night Prowler) but the rest is mostly the same. Still worth a 3 for the start and end...

Starts super strong, one of the best rock songs of all time honestly, and the first couple tracks after that are good too. But eventually there’s just too little variety, it all starts to sound the same and mush together.

It’s enjoyable. Highway to hell is a classic. But I can’t lie, all the songs are very similar. Which isn’t always a bad thing. But it did get a bit monotonous.

Every song is a thinly veiled metaphor of “I’m having hot sex with this hot chick” but man they rock so hard they can get away with it in the 70’s. I wonder how much satanic panic this stirred up back then?

I know, I know. It's a classic. But it's really just three different songs in a trenchcoat. I like them but not for a while album.

Knew the title track but then if you know one AC/DC song you know them all. So bland and inoffensive that you can't even dislike it. Just completely irrelevant.

Decent album. Consistent AC/DC sound

Classic album with some great songs and great riffs. This sort of rock can feel a bit samey for me. Not the sort of album I would listen to. Just the odd song.

Solid rock and roll. They've been playing the same damn song record after record for ages but... You can get away with it when it's a great song.

I have anti-nostalgia for AC/DC. It was the music of the people I didn't like, and didn't want to grow up like. That aside, this is really solid album, albeit one that's not to my taste.

Oddly this album doesn't hold up as well as a I remember. There are some major hits on it that are still great but the album as a whole is repetitive and boring.

Good album

Silly.

Some stand-outs and generally really enjoyable. I think I did prefer Bon Scott's voice, y'know. Slightly same-y by side 2.

Preferred Back in Black 1000% more but this one wasn’t too bad. Never was really into the rock genre on a really high level but I respect AC/DC obviously. Not a bad album

It surely has some classics on it, but the non-classic songs sound the same and are not that interesting. 3/5

"I'm sick and tired of people saying that we put out 11 albums that sound exactly the same. In fact, we've put out 12 albums that sound exactly the same." That's right. Get in the t-top, loser, we're hitting mailboxes with a baseball bat. Nothing groundbreaking, and somehow too long as an album, but every song rocks.

Highway to Hell is a great way to kick off an album. AC/DC has a sound, and they have stuck with it through thick and thin. These guys are super horny, every song is about getting laid. I can understand how some people might confuse some AC/DC songs. With as many hits as they have over their career, it's surprising that this album only really had one big one. This one delivers exactly what an AC/DC album promises.

I didn't expect this to turn me around on AC/DC, and I was pretty much right - it's very samey, straight down the middle rock that I would describe as "perfectly fine", with an annoying man singing bullshit over it.

First look...I'm not sure I've ever listened to this as an album before. I only recognise two songs off the top of my head. To my surprise I preferred it to Back In Black. This might be because I was listening to it in its natural habitat, ie on a long car journey.

Good. Not great. Good.

Fun listen but after two go throughs I can say “meh 🫤”with full confidence

Titillagið er banger, restin er fínn þungarokksfiller. Get alveg hlustað á þetta þótt ekki sé það fjölbreytt.

Album was okay. Title track was easily the best on here, the rest were pretty forgettable. They have better albums. 3/5 Probably won’t listen again

Klinkt een hoop een beetje hetzelfde

Fine but AC DC's hits are better than anything else

I appreciate AC/DC on a mix tape. A single song or two is great mixed in with other classic rock. An entire album is way too much for me and starts sounding very same-y. Girls Got Rhythm is one of my favorite AC/DC songs so I gave this album a bonus star for that.

generic

It was ok

Fill your pockets full of rocks. No, more rocks. No, still more rocks. Now you're ready to rock for the highway to hell.

1st song-i dont like it how they singing it sounds weird and plus they are singing so bad little bit 2nd song- ok this I like it little bit but crash in planes is really crazy and they sounds mad 3rd song- this one i kinda like it that much of big fan of them tho and this song so weird

I like the beat In their song but their singing is bad. but if you like it then you can play it.

Nothing really unexpected

Title track is a killer and deserves to be on the list for that alone.

Liked a couple

Write a third song already.

Finally, a member of my Australian legends list! AC/DC is simultaneously a very interesting band and a very uninteresting band. They're very popular, so I definitely think they deserve to have at least one album on here. Fortunately, they have two, with this being the earlier one. This album's pretty alright. The sound is quite good. I've always liked the riffs and solos I've heard of AC/DC. Although, I did just realize that, until listening to this album today, I had only ever heard like 4 AC/DC songs in my life ever. My belief has been reaffirmed with this album listen. Bon Scott's vocals are certainly unique. One may find them annoying, but I find them to be fun. Now, let's get the obvious complaint out of the way. Let's just say that there's a reason why people say that every AC/DC song sounds the same. This album's pretty repetitive in both sound and (for the most part) lyrical matter. However, while this does lead to a less interesting album, it does make Highway to Hell a pretty consistently solid album. Of course, it does peak with the title track at the beginning, but the others aren't bad. They're just not as interesting. Overall, this is a solid album from a pretty influential band. It may not be an album that I'm super passionate about, but I see the appeal and the importance of this album. High 3/5.

They had blood, I didn't want ite

Look, it's better than Back In Black and birthed School Of Rock (the film), so kudos to that. Enjoyed it more than I should've, but women aren't objects guys!

I didn't hate it, but it didn't stand out, either.

good classic rock, keeps with one style but is enjoyable and has bangers. Probably closer to a 4 then a 3, but a high 3.5 rating is appropriate.

Catchy, punchy, rock that sounds great loud. After one song or two of the album however each track sounds pretty similar.

Liked it but didn’t get through it

Iconic vocals and music. One of the classic American rock bands that still lives on today with timelessness. Not my typical rock music that I like listening to, but AC/DC has its place at times and they can shred. This record is seemingly energetic the entire time and offers a good time throughout. Had never listened to it in its entirety, but happy I did through this project.

Highway to Hell is a definite classic, and I do like the sound of AC/DC, but every song did sort of sound the same. They were good at one thing, and they did that thing.

Ultimately, the only memorable song is Highway to Hell. It’s better than a lot of other seventies rock albums we’ve had, but there’s nothing that makes me want to come back to this album specifically rather than listen to a greatest hits compilation.

I listened to this album while wrangling a toddler at the airport, and I think it matched the energy of the situation perfectly. Came in strong thinking hell yeah I got this. After the title song I faded in and out of the album with distractions. Every time I came back in, I thought yep this is AC/DC. Not their best album, but one of their best songs.

Never been a huge AC/DC fan.

Great rock and roll album. I remember reading an old Angus Young excerpt in guitar world magazine and someone submitted their opinion that Angus Young only knows 3 chords and doesn't play that well. And Angus Young replied with a lengthy letter back to this particular fan about how he was sorry that this fan didn't enjoy his guitar playing and at the end it something to the effect of "I know that there is a lot of similarities in the guitar riffs that I write but it's wrong to say that I only know 3 chords. Because I, in fact know at least 4." I thought it was hilarious. Especially because AC/DC are world renowned and at one time, on top of the world. They e definitely left their mark in music history and even though the music isn't necessarily complex... Angus Young has written. Some iconic guitar parts. So Fuck that guy. Let AC/DC be AC/DC and let there be rock!

It’s AC/DC it’s not high art. It’s fine. Theres nothing exceptional. There’s nothing terrible.

Very similar throughout, first and last songs were the best on the album, a decent listen, just samey

Some good things here that maybe hit harder at the time of release, but mostly feels like generic rock music.

When I saw this was the album I sighed. I just don’t like AC/DC. It’s the vocals. Bon Scott isn’t any better than Brian Johnson, in fact I think they sound eerily similar. This is sad because if it was anybody with decent vocals this album (and Back in Black) would probably be 4’s. If you take out the vocals it’s a solid album. Angus Young is an absolute hoss on the guitar and that was great. Everything is great except the vocals, and that really, really hurts this album’s rating (and my ears) so it’s a 3 for me (only because of Angus).

Gode riffs! Det er ikke at de her sange er dårlige, de er alle sammen ret fede, men det lyder godt nok lidt ens. Bon Scotts stemme lyder helt fucked up.

Fun album, kinda repetitive

Good album, nothing special for me, good to have on in the background and tap your feet.

Solid rock album by a Hall of Fame rock band. It's probably not their best album, but it's good. I don't think AC/DC gets enough credit for the use of "space" in their music. They're a hard rock band, but almost all of their songs include short periods of silence - breaks in the heavy guitar riffs that kinda draw you in. I think that's what makes their sound so unique and recognizable.

Here we go, some good, classic Aussie rock. I love AC/DC but their albums sound a bit samey. Night Prowler was, surprisingly, my favourite track from Highway To Hell. It’s slow but it’s sinister, there was something quite captivating about it.

It's solid, but it's just not my thing. The highlights are Bon Scott's passionate singing (which I didn't really like before) and Angus Young's leads. Liked Songs Added: - Highway To Hell

Not huge on hard rock, obviously there are hits that defy type like the titular track, but overall not my cup of tea.

Good classic rock album

Starts strong but drops off quick after the second track. Good opening riffs and sounds very on-brand, but the songs and lyrics are pretty forgettable after that first 10 seconds. They go on to do much better stuff, but I can imagine for the time of release it was well-received.

Good listen but not their best.

i listened to a ukrainian version of highway to hell after passing my driving test. great times

All started to feel like the same song

Enjoyed this a lil more than I thought! It’s fun! This list has been super populated with hard rock!

Thought I was going to like this a lot more! Fun enough!

kinda famously one of those bands that I love to hate - i was shocked that i enjoyed this as much as i did - it was really fun as far as the 'hard rock' genre goes (which i am seriously starting to dislike due to this list)

"We're young, we're dumb, we're full of cum, and WE'RE READY TO ROCK!" Is what I imagine these guys said when they sat down to record it. I know it's supposed to be a cornerstone of rock history but it doesn't really do it for me. Yeah, they're talented, a lot of musicians on this list are. I don't think they were anything more than a bunch of fuckboys who didn't add anything meaningful to the genre...still fun though.

Starts out strong but gets a little repetitive - meh after a while. Not their best effort.

Oh man, I've been an AC/DC fan for decades, but I've never actually tried to listen to a full album of theirs from beginning to end. And now that I have, I kinda can't get through it? It's a strange sensation, liking every song individually, just not one after the other.

It's all pretty much the same thing

It's a nice album, and 'Highway to Hell' is pretty timeless even though I've heard it _a lot_ in my time. The rest of the album is serviceable but blends together a bit for me with very little standing out to me as specially good. That's not to say the music is bad in any way and I generally enjoyed listening to it. It just didn't make me stop and pay attention, or pull me in much other than the title track Standouts Highway to Hell 3/5

Every ac/dc Album is a 3

If you like ac/dc you have to like this. 3.5

AC/DC were an Australian band that made guitar based hard rock, with a near-scream vocal style that typical of hard rock and metal. For Highway to Hell, these vocals were belted by Bon Scott, who died not long after the recording of this album. The band had many iterations and line-up changes in the course of their career, but maintained a consistent sound. Highway to Hell was the band's fifth album, and the one that made them into international stars. These are simple, potent songs, from a band that found a very successful formula. While very commercially successful, the songs all sound very similar, and are not particularly interesting.

As much as I don't love ACDC, all the songs are pretty catchy.

Yesssss yessssss…! Play the riff and shout the chorus! Yessssss

Leimallisinta AC/DC:tä ja parasta varmaan siinä mielessä, että joka biisi ei kuulosta ihan samalta. Joo! Ihan hyvä. Rullaa menemään. Positiivinen yllätys.

Mutt Langen mielestä levyn paras veto on Touch Too Me - mitä merkitsee, että en välttämättä ole eri mieltä? Tärkein vetonaula on kuitenkin vokalisti itse, jonka karhea kurkku kompensoi hänen kiusallisen likaista mieltään. Musiikillisesti materiaalin taso kulkee aina nimikappaleen monumentaalisuudesta Shot Down in Flamesin puhtaaseen geneerisyyteen. Kokonaisuus pelaa omassa konseptuaalisessa (vai tarkoitanko konseptittomassa) kontekstissaan, pari biisiä myös itsenäisesti. 3,5

Highway to Hell Night Prowler Last album with singer Bon Scott

I have a soft spot for this sound and gritty vocals especially on the well known ones like Highway to Hell. Night Prowler was also fun. All in all good exemplary album for the genre. 3.5

Boomer ahh music.

Highway to hell for sure!

kind of ass i dont like acdc 3/5

every song sounds the same

It’s insane to me that this is AC/DC’s 6th album. What the hell were they doing before this. Clearly this is where they found their sound. Highway To Hell is an impressive opening and over the album is good. Huge riffs, Touch too much is great, so is If You Want Blood but it’s all a bit repetitive 7.2/10

Not their best - but top 3 for sure.

As much as I do enjoy their energy, and also Highway to Hell as a song itself, I need more mental stimulation than 10 songs that sound almost the same. This is a very common issue I have with these lads.

The hits are great the rest is good. They have better albums tho

non vorrei pensarla così, ma a parte la prima che parte col botto, mi paiono tutte piacevoli, ma tutte uguali. 3 politico da average album rock.

Rieccoli i nostri amici insospettabilmente australiani.

- AC/DC is fairly essential party rock music. And the title track is a fun romp. However, almost all of the other tracks have the same structure and style as that one and they so not compare. - "Night Prowler" was a nice change of pace.

Had never listened to the entire album before. Thoroughly enjoyed it...but a bit too repetitive at times.

Never listened to the album. Solid rock album. No duds, and one classic. The rest is good but nothing eye-opening. A couple of Spın̈al Tap moments sprinkled in, as well. "A body of Venus with arms."

Embarrassed that I enjoyed this more than I thought I would. Just solid classic rock. That last song was so fucking uncomfortable, though.

Walk all over you es la Unica canción que destacó. Siempre se me ha hecho bastante monótono AC/DC . A veces siento que suenan igual e innovar en un género como el hard rock no es fácil. El álbum no se me hizo aburrido pero difícil destacar.

3/5. Loud and in your face, this album really drives home the fact that you can't ever be too loud. Every instrument and vocal is turned up to 11, impossible to listen to this quietly. I gotta respect that. And despite the screaming vocals, they are still fairly clear and understandable, something many bands fail at. Is this a good album, kind of. Some great fun songs, some repetitive rockers, a fine line between them. Best Song: Highway To Hell, Touch Too Much, Night Prowler (hopefully not controversial for what I read about it lol)

Gotta love AC/DC, they found a formula and stuck with it, that being said, if you've heard one you've heard 'em all. Some nostalgia points but one of the major classic rock bands that I could live without being in heavy rotation.

The title track is an all time classic, and that’s all you need to get AC/DC of this period. All the other tracks are very similar in sound. It’s not necessarily bad. AC/DC is a goated band for a reason, but I prefer Back in Black over this one. The only other interesting thing here is the unfortunate connection to Richard Ramirez.

A classic. Some of its songs have been overused by the industry (movies, tv shows etc.) though.

Some classics and good riffs. It sort of all becomes the same at the end, but it's still good.

Ein Klassiker. Hard Rock. Und das zwei Tage nachdem ACDC in München gespielt hat. Aber so richtig das Meine wird das eben doch nicht.

AC/DC are very good at what they do, and never deviate from the formula. Enjoyable in small doses Strong 3 but cant quite give it a 4

Wild that for how popular the song highway to hell was. I thought most the other tracks were better than that joint. I'm into the energy of this one.

Genre-defining sound of 60s and 70s rock. The rest of the songs carry the same distortion and sustain-filled guitar riffs that the title track is known for. Found some new goodies like, “Touch Too Much” and “If You Want Blood (You Got It)”

groaned when I saw this but honestly much better than I expected. last track was my favourite I think.

For having distilled a sound and swagger and a highschool level lyric ability this is a must to listen to. But do you need to listen to all their albums when any one will generally do?

i can see why it holds a place in peoples hearts. i'm not the biggest fan of rock like this, but i was still swingin hips

Moderately entertaining.

Favorite Tracks: Highway to Hell Girls Got Rhythm Night Prowler

Having more than one AC/DC album on this list seems redundant

Title track is a banger, but the others are fine.

2-3 standout tracks, decent for its time and very influential, but a lot of very samey songs

Classic

Knew - and liked - the title track (ofc!). Rest wasn't too bad - might go back to in the future...

The title track, Shot Down in Flames, and If You Want Blood are the standouts for me. The rest is solid, but doesn’t reach the heights of those 3.

It's so hard to hear AC/DC as music. Maybe when it came out it was different but it's such Marvel and grocery store rock now it feels paint by numbers. It has some fine technical moments but I don't feel I can give it a fair listen.

Not gonna go too deep on this one. It's rock and roll. It's rhythm and blues. Bon Scott's vocals are a well played instrument. It's dumb fun.

Rock all over you, indeed.

It's AC/DC. It's fine. They all sound the same

Fun and energetic; the tracks blend together into something that sounds pretty uniform, but it’s all enjoyable enough. That said, it’s unlikely I’ll feel compelled to listen to the whole thing again. Rating is somewhere between 3 and 3.5.

Didn’t listen fully; some good songs

All of the Bon era albums appear to have one or two big songs and then a bunch of filler. But even a filler early AC/DC song is gonna have a killer Malcolm riff. This one’s full of em. As a side note, even the nastiest AC/DC songs usually have a bit of charm/plausible deniability. Night Prowler probably the biggest exception. Hard to explain that one!

A little one dimensional but not bad

Some good songs, but quite samey

Classic AC/DC 3*

Different singer and this band is great, but his voice grates on me and can only be listened to in small doses.

"The body of Venus, with arms", haw haw, good one guys. 5/5 for the riffs but all told it's A Touch Too Much

The perfect album to blow out some speakers to. Miss you Jr

Yeah I mean it's acdc Blasted this one for Jr

Rather forgettable album. No track really stood out, it was basically all sounding the same.

Not a fan of the singles I had previously heard (classic rock not really my thing), but I enjoyed it more than I thought I would. Bon Scott's vocals massively preferable to Brian Johnson's for my money.

AC⚡️DC has two types of songs. Bangers. And then rock and roll songs that all sound alike. This album has 2 bangers right off the top. But then it just feels like an afternoon at Guitar Center for the rest of the album. Don’t get me wrong, I respect these guys a lot and spent many teen years playing and learning these songs. But they are a bit of a one trick pony. I think a greatest hits volume full of their bangers is the only path to a 5 star rating for AC⚡️DC in my eyes.

okuu! 7/10

Good songs, lacks diversitet

Day113 - obviously a great rock album i’m just not a big ac/dc guy

Not there best work, but maybe AC/DC's best album with Bon Scott. Solid all-rounder that embodies the band's sound and aesthetic.

Not really my thing

Despite their obvious prominence, I’ve never viewed AC/DC in the same glowing light as some of the absolute best rock bands of the 1970s. And I think the same can be said for Highway To Hell compared to other prominent albums of the time. Being released in 1979, it feels like a record that was grasping as hard as it could to the waning zeitgeist that peaked several years beforehand. Good songwriting, grating vocalist (sorry Bryan), merely enjoyable.

This wasn't bad.

dad. this is everything i remember it being. not that that is a bad thing necessarily. not entirely my jam but i don't want to claw my skin off lol

Classic AC/DC album. All sounds the same but it’s rockin

From the founding fathers of Hard Rock comes Highway to Hell. While not chock full of the hits you come to recognize from AC/DC besides the title track, this album is chock full of sleepers. 3/5.

There are some good moments (second half of Night Prowler) but as a whole it's a repetitive album without much to say. Favorite track: Walk All Over You

Solid rock n roll. Some great riffs. Girl got rhythm is my fave.

mondane

I don’t have much time or mental energy to write this review, but I will say that while I understand why this album was such a big deal, it’s just not for me.

Generally enjoyable cookie cutter hard rock but it does start to feel a bit generic and samey by the end. Would be interested to hear the odd change of pace but not really their thing I guess.

This has potential to change- it SERIOUSLY depends on the tone/mood of a day.

every single song was the same. they were all good, but all the same

The title track is obviously just iconic. After that the tracks kind of just whirred by. I enjoyed touch too much but apart from that THIS SHIT WAS BORING. Either a 2 or a 3 I’ll see how generous I feel in the morning

- classic bangers. love the guitar. -

I can tell this is probably going to be a fan favourite, but it really doesn't work for me for a few reasons. I understand it's meant to be a bit of fun, and the playing is actually quite decent for 1979, with a few nice recording flourishes. I understand entirely why it is here and deserves to be on this list. It falls down for me on everything to do with the vocals - the most important part of any music to me. The lyrics are a joke, or downright terrible. The constant scratchy falsetto is just ridiculous. It's far from the worst thing I've had to listen to on this god forsaken list.

Very hard to hear with fresh ears. Consistent sounds and attitude, and I would have loved it had I not heard so many of these songs a billion times. I don't need to hear AC/DC again

Same old familiar stuff. The opening title track is so familiar, overexposed. "Night Prowler" is a decent creepy song.

Its acdc. You already know what you’re gonna get. It’s good, but it’s not something I’d put on

I couldn't believe how much I enjoyed this, frankly. And couldn't tell you why this was so fun and tasteful compared with my thoughts on, say, Van Halen of this same era. There's just a pure raw energy that makes Highway to Hell feel more like a last gasp of the classic rock era than a 1980s xerox of such. Maybe this can be attributed to the band's Australian origins where pub rock—a harder, more aggressive take on rock and roll—had been boiling-over half a decade prior to AC/DC's explosion on the scene in the mid-70s. Favorite songs are "Beating Around the Bush" and "If You Want Blood." And talk about an album opener. The guitar tones are so good. A little repetitive and silly on the weaker tracks though.

Kind of controversial but I enjoyed this more than Back In Black. Felt like they were more confident, mature, really solid on this record, maybe it’s just my perception but it feels like this band has grown up. More badass? also like this MUCH more than most bands doing this thing around this time. We’ve had Guns N Roses and Aerosmith, and while those were memorable they kind of rolled off me. This is more focused but more sure of itself? Really good. Never gonna be totally 100% for me, but I respect the hell out of this. 3/5

not bad

Breezy listen that didn't leave much of an impression

Lots of good fun, rocks hard, kicks ass etc etc But yeah, not much difference song to song. It's a classic, but kind of how lots of westerns are classics

It's AC/DC. You know what you're getting, but there's definitely some riffs here. Touch Too Much is a nice one, and Beating Around the Bush has some good leads. The closer Night Prowler slows it down which helps. I don't know. Maybe trying to break this down song by song is missing the point.

When I was a teenager I would have given this a 5. It's not that the music has aged badly. It's that I have.

Good album. My personal favorite is High Voltage but this is solid. Love Bon Scott's voice. Favorite Tracks: Girls Got Rhythm & If You Want Blood (You've Got It)

Highway To Hell // Shot Down In Flames //

eh i get it but nah

Not nearly as good as Back in Black.

AC/DC is so fun to listen to.

I always forget how much I enjoy AC/DC. Not as great as Back in Black, but this album presents the best of AC/DC from the 70s era which had some blues rock and arena rock as well as the 80s era which went more into metal and hard rock. This was also the first AC/DC album produced by “Mutt” Lange, more famous for his work with (and marriage to) Shania Twain. Mutt was bigger on arena rock in the 70s-80s before diversifying his production sound in the 90s.

I’d heard Highway to Hell before and the entire album is more of the same. Quite enjoyed but nothing surprising

Breakthrough? No, just simple blues scales and attitude from drum kit to vocals.

Classic example of just fun, no frills party rock

very 70s! 3.5

Pretty good from start to finish, nothing really bad or skippable. On one hand there is a cohesive spurs though out the album but on the other hand it an all be boiled down into the single’ “Highway to Hell.” That song is top tier and everything else just fails to reach it.

it was a good album, i think the songs were repetitive but still good. It has nice guitar riffs. 3.5/5

Highway is a classic hard rock track. I've done covers of it with a couple of my earlier bands. Tracks are a bit hit or miss for me personally. Album comes across as a collection of individual tracks instead of building a cohesive whole. That's not necessarily bad, but makes for an up and down listening experience when not skipping some of the weaker tracks. For better or worse, Bon Scott's vocals are unique and instantly identifiable even if they aren't always as easily understood. Walk All Over You is a highlight, probably the best track. Shit Down In Flames comes a close second. Girls Got Rhythm and Touch Too Much are definite low points. Overall, it's a fun album.

Repetitive rhythms, but these slightly annoying, screaming and demanding vocals make it interesting for the inclined listener. And Higway to Hell is still a catchy tune that people like to rock out to at parties!

Hummmmm.

Actually surprised me by being okay.

Not as good as TNT. Not bad though

Great album but it's one of those bands that the local rock station plays constantly. It's good but it's so overplayed that I don't care to hear it anymore.

every song sounds the same, and this is not a criticism.

Not bad. I don’t go out of my way to listen to AC/DC but I respect them.

Exactly what to expect from AC/DC. Good album with a lot of great songs, but ultimately it’s just a lot of the same thing over and over.

Sometimes fun, always dumb.

Good, but like all AC/DC kind of sounds the same to me

No soy free thinker

It's exactly what you expect. No surprises. Good but not great. Favorite song: walk all over you.

Few bands have had such a successful two-hit punch on lead vocals as AC/DC with Bon Scott and Brian Johnson. Releasing Highway to Hell as Scott's last record and then following up with Back in Black is nothing short of insane. Scott's vocals definitely are the highlights on Highway, with the catchy but repetitive riffs from Young brothers not doing a lot for me. Standout tracks: title track, 'If You Want Blood (You've Got It)', and 'Night Prowler'.

this album sounded exactly like i thought it would

Loud, unapologetic, and distinctly them. AC/DC comes through with a solid rock album that sets itself apart from the rest, and for me, still holds up today. While not something I'll be playing all the time I think it's good not great.

Raucous, loud, rocky, and pretty much fun - great soundtrack for a strenuous bike ride.

Although I listen to a good load of heavy music and music with saturation, I've never been a huge fan of hard rock and/or heavy metal (especially NWOBHM and the likes), mostly because I can't keep up, it's too high power for me. I enjoy a song once in a while, but a whole record is hard to swallow for me. It exhausts me. So yeah, this is 5 stars hard rock, it's full of absolute classic and it's hard not to have feet taping in unison with the music, but it's too much. I'd rather listen to some good ol'punk: it's high energy all the same but in most cases they have the decency to keep under 30 min (hell, under 20 min even)

I listened to this album, and I still think that AC/DC is somewhat overrated. Yes, it's rock 'n' roll. Yes, it's hard rock. But neither this nor any of the following albums were innovative to the genre.

yeah every song sounds the same, and apart from the title track, none of them are classics (it's also not really my bag), but damn it sounds amazing. So simple and pure. it's raw and clean at the same time. No wonder Mutt Lange is so celebrated. It was fun reading the wiki article about the creation of this one.

every song sounds pretty much the same but it's quite fun

hani mit 12i scho no geil gfunde. wird s schlagzüg öpis anders mache als da s ganze album? glaubnö. girls got rhythm. jo sie würklich det de jo. touch too much isch ein vode wenige acdc songs wo so chli chords het. scho cool. sie hend am rock ebe scho gseit wos duregoht de shit isch vo hüt us gseh nöd sehr kreativ aber so mues rock töne ebe. get it hot findi easy geil. weiss nöd wie cool ichs find wenn die ganz nand afoch de refrain johlt. ok bi if you want blood synkopiereds schön. und d gitarre töned seehr geil mit stereo und so. isch ebe nöd so viel distortion. es tönt eig alles immer glich uf jedem sing aber s tönt guet. mer mueses luut lose und denn laufts. in love hungry man spielt de angus e recht geils solo. night prowler isch en SHUFFLE?? ok de isch afoch nume sehr lang s glich riff.

Fun, but overrated.

1. highuuay to hell - 3 2. girlz got rythym - 2 3. uualk all over you - 1 4. touch too much - 1 5. beating around the buzh - 1 6. zhot douun in flamez - 1 7. get it hot - 0 8. if you uuant blood - 1 9. love hungry man - 0 10. night prouuler - 1.5

Great Rock, makes you wanna scream along, then you realize you don't have the voice for it

Pretty, pretty good! I feel like it deserves a 5 based on the very opening of highway to hell (so iconic) but i'm gonna give it a 3 because it doesn't really change vibe at all through the whole disk. Still a mega fan though!

Every song is the same but who cares, this album is a hell of a lot of fun. 3.4

Despite falling between two AC/DC albums I love, I somehow don't like this as much. None of the songs are one's I go to when thinking about the band. It's just decent.

3/5. AC/DC found a winning formula and stuck with it. I always love the joke about Angus Young telling reporters they were the only band ever to make 5 records that sounded exactly the same and still win an award. This album was just okay in my eyes(ears)

Good album to put on for a bit of fun. Maybe it's just me, but by today's standards this just sounds "quaint". I think such is the fate of many classics. 3/5 -- "I'll bang my head to this, but it's just short of something I'd 'want' to listen to on the regular"

This isn't as good as their previous, I think. First half of the album is very much hair dad stadium rock, second half fades quite a bit, doesn't sustain the energy that you need to carry an album like this. 3/5 (4 for the first four tracks, low 3 if not a 2 for most of the rest).

rock and roll 🤘🫨

Sounds like AC/DC.

Pinnacle of AC/DC greatness. This album rocks hard but keeps their blues foundation. Mutt Lange rarely misses, the mix is impeccable, and the band brings it with their raw unrefined sound that is often lost in recording. Take away the in your face sound and some of the lyrics are beautifully penned (others are clearly nothing more than trying to get laid).

Not my taste. But of course legendary guitar riffs

Bad ass way to kick off the day. Only knew Highway to Hell. Enjoyed the others.

meh, didn't aged well into the present.

They really nail the riffs and solos. It's a lot of fun, but a lot of repetition. While the riffs are good, they really run them into the ground. Long songs, lots of repeats. It could be so much more than it is. I personally love the vocal stylings though, and their overall aesthetic is great. Fav tracks: Highway to Hell, Touch Too Much

- Great classic rock sound - Highway to Hell is an iconic song but the rest of the album sort of blends together - Still bangers tho

Big energy, fun and feisty. I'm not really a rocker these days, but this one gives me some nostalgia.

Decent rock album.

3.5 I started this at basically the same time as my best friend and husband and this is the first album that any two of us have gotten. I thought it was good and appreciate the context it was released in, it’s just not my jam.

Good album with some good songs, but this band is too iconic to age well if that makes sense. Still some good ones but not rotation stuff. 3

Aaah. I’m 15 again and watching all the cool kids go to the cool parties…

not bad

Not my vibe but good music for what it is

Kind of boring… maybe it’s because more modern music has borrowed from and have been influenced by them.

Highway to Hell is my first? Is this some kind of message? Bwhahahaha...it is of course a classic

Good solid classic rock

Crazy that bon Scott died so soon after this. Didn’t know how many actual bon Scott songs I knew growing up.

i liked Back in Black a lot so i was excited going into this but it just didn’t hit the same. not bad at all just nothing stood out. obviously Highway to Hell (the song) is a classic but i’ve never loved it either

✔️

It was fine but didn’t fit my vibe the day I listened to it during work.

It’s an ACDC album for sure

Wenn man auf den klassischen AC/DC Sound steht dann bestimmt DAS Album aber sonst .. naja. Wenig Abwechslung

Many rock highlights and hits, very fun.

I like their sound and their energy, and this singer's voice is so unique, and I said it when I got their other album, his voice is giving major Muppet vibes. But yeah, rock on!

Average score for a generic band. It's the same song but at various tempos. Not offensive, but it's like stock photos of rock songs.

It’s a Highway to Hell!!

Title track is the standout. The album sounds like a series of alternate tracks and very same-y. I didn't gain much by hearing the title track in the album context.

I don't like AC/DC but I like the energy of this album. It was obviously a lot of fun to make and they play their songs like they mean it. Yes the album is really samey but this was before they would become copycats of themselves so we can forgive them. It's just good dumb fun.

The title song and some fillers. Seriously, there's nothing great to this album but the energy it bursts.

Pure rock songs like everything you've heard before, but performed with such energy that the album remains a pleasure to listen to. Nothing important or meaningful, but a great dose of fun and let go.

The album would've been way better but also basically the same if it was only highway to hell repeated throughout

Quintessential "get on your harley and roll" kind of music. Very easy cruising music, if not repetitive. Unfortunately, it peaks with its opening track "Highway to Hell" and never quite hits the same high, though there are a few other solid stand outs (If you want blood; Shot down in Flames). Vibe: 4/5 Benefitted greatly by a great opening which sets the tone. The rest of the album is an easy listen, just a bit repetitive at times. Mixing: 5/5 They maximized each instrument and vocals Pacing: 2/5 If you are gonna have an absolute banger of an opener, you better follow it up with some heat, unfortunately that fire slowly but surely dies out through the rest of the run time. Creativity: 2.5/5 My biggest issue with AC/DC in general. Outside of a few landmark tracks, so much of the discography feels like rinse/repeat. I understand wanting to have a signature sound, but you can achieve a signature sound while varying up sound structure, changing up instrumentation a touch. At the same time, i cant really blame AC/DC, they knew what they were and leaned into it.

Good hard rock album, compact, tight, and easy to get into it. I'd give it a 4 if the songs weren't so samey and it wouldn't drag a bit towards the end. It's a 3.5 from me.

Listened Before? Yes I listened to this album quite a bit back in high school. I think of AC/DC records this and Back in Black are my favorites. This one opens with classic driving jam "Highway to Hell" and keeps the accelerator down through the Girls Got Rhythm. This is a quintessential 70s rock album that is largely held together by vocals from Bon Scott and fretwork from Angus Young. Highlights for me are the title track, Shot Down in Flames, and Girls Got Rhythm. Outside of Shot Down in Flames, the second half drags a bit in my opinion and takes away from the experience. This is a softer 3 / 5 for me. Added to Library? Yes Songs Added to Playlists: - Highway to Hell (Driving)

Never been a huge AC/DC guy. Not much changed for me here.

An easy-to-listen album, and although the songs can be somewhat repetitive, it is still enjoyable.

Sähköistä menomusiikkia! Sopisi oikein hyvin lenkille, tarpeeksi sähinää. Ei normaalisti kuulu omalle kuuntelulistalle, mutta ei lainkaan huono.

Classic rock classic

Unique sound, but kinda all blends together. Would listen again

No one has unlimited time in ther lives. We all know AC/DC is a mediocre rock band,(yeah I said it!) so since this is a catch up album, I'm throwing down a 3 without listening. Sue me Geoffery Fieger!

great album
