Loved every minute of that
Now I might be a little biased, being from Manchester and growing up as a fan of the 90's rave music we got up North. I was also really into the Wipeout games made locally with this style of music, including stuff from this album. Almost all bangers.
This is so good!
Peak EDM
Infinity/5 stars!! Great album! Great band!
I love the Chemical Brothers.
база классика основа. классно погулял под них утром и вечером почитал
".....I'm in."

Fun sound makes you groove
Banging album that was played a lot when growing up. One.of a few dance albums that defined the era.
Total banger. There are a couple spots where I felt like I was trapped in the Matrix soundtrack. But overall this is a very listenable album with a lot of musical layers.
So ... Techno, specifically big bang, is the center of my musical universe. Everything else trickles out from there. I don't even feel I need to mention that The Chemical Brothers are the epitome of big bang techno and more or less gods among the techno set. Not every single song on every single album is amaze, but there are amazing songs on every album. Exit Planet Dust is no exception. If you are into techno or techno curious, this is the meat of it right here. Nuff said!
Dank
What an awesome experience this album is. Such an interesting blend of drumnbass, triphop and industrial sounding electronic music. I didnt know i was a fan of this. So many tracks that build up well themselves and work together greatly.
Loved this in 95! Excited to hear it again. Leave Home is possibly one of the great tracks ones of any debut album, and then to follow that with In Dust We Trust secures this albums status as an all time 90s classic. Cover art is timeless, classic 👌.
I remember dancing to this in the club. Listen to it three times today.
Fun, catchy, and infectious from start to finish. A debut that set the tone for what The Chemical Brothers would become, it’s an album that still holds up as an energetic and engaging listen.
Imprinted into my brain from childhood. A1 album
In 1995, Exit Planet Dust crashed the polite Britpop party like a gatecrasher in mirrored shades, announcing the Chemical Brothers’ mission to make big beat loud, swaggering, and faintly dangerous. From the adrenalised thump of “Leave Home” to the woozy swirl of “Life Is Sweet,” it stitched techno, hip-hop, and rock into one euphoric Frankenstein groove. Nearly three decades later, it still feels like a love letter from a parallel universe where the bass never stops and the future always dances.
I forgot how much I enjoyed this kind of music.
I generally do not like electronic music, but I love the Chemical Brothers. Great beats and generally interesting music. Liked Songs Added: Leave Home In Dust We Trust One Too Many Mornings Life Is Sweet Alive Alone
THIS ROCKS
Very enjoyable - liked "Chemical Beats"
Not quite The Chemical Brothers' strongest offering, but a mightily impressive debut album wherein the group didn't wait around to firmly cast their imprint into the UK electronic music scene, and many acts have since borrowed its nuances, ensuring that it retains a significant legacy befitting of this list. Of their discography, this album does perhaps sound the most applicable to the mid 90s era, with a somewhat dated sheen to it, although not one which compromised my enjoyment whilst revisiting today.
First half is like DJ set, second is more spaced out. Loved this.
As a rock/indie fan i never properly got into the Chems until after this album and have never been motivated to go back. This just works for me as a complete album, unencumbered by the presence of a massive hit single (or at least one i recognise). All albums can also be improved with a sprinkle of tim burgess. I suspect i have all the albums after this or have certainly listened to them, but as it turns out the one i have previously ignored is their finest, most distilled collection of their craft
Fittingly was heading to Manchester where Ed and Tom formed the band, -can we call The Chemical Brothers aband?- on the day the algorithm gave me this, A gtreasure.
I am in no way a usual fan of EDM, but The Chemical Brothers have a different take on it, and it’s one that I really enjoyed. There’s much more of a rock-style sensibility to this than the usual “doof-doof-doof-doof”, and it works for me. At times it felt very Screamadelica-y, and that is one of my favourite albums, so today was a good day.
In my collection from back in the day
I surprisingly loved this. A really great introduction to the genre, one that I would’ve never listened to before trying out this challenge. I’ve relistened about five times already. Something so satisfying about the steady flow of it, and the progression between songs was so smooth!
All I can think of is going to see Chemical Brothers in 1996. I may have been on acid, I don't recall. What I do remember was that it was at Metropolis back when you could run around in the basement and there were all sorts of hidden spaces and places.
The album gets five stars for its impressive juicy big/break beats making each and every track energetic and reminding me of Prodigy and Fatboy Slim. Favourite track: Leave Home.
I'm a sucker for the mid-to-late 90s big beat/electronica sound (even though I never did MDMA and found people who did unbearably annoying) and this is one of my very favourite albums in that genre.
Refreshing
I do love these guys. I consider them best in class for this genre. Great album.
inject this into my veins
This album is groovy as can be. Never listened before but I really enjoyed it. Thank you album generator for giving me another solid.
One word: bangin'. It's incredible (and harrowing) to think that this debut effort is now thirty years old; it sounds just as fresh as it did in the mid-90s. Every track has something to offer, and if you don't start grooving (yeah I'm that old) then honestly you should check for a pulse. It's a 5 from me!
idk if this is actually "better" than dig your own hole but at the v least im more in the mood for the chemical brothers today then i necessarily was back when i got that record (tho i did still rly enjoy it)...kind of illustrates the perils of the random album setup lol but sometimes it just works out. this absolutely rules...definitely feels less Gritty than dig your own hole but it still has that deep sorta scuzzy physicality...and this one just goes all in on warmth, joy, peace, even impressionism w/ its psychy sample treatments, while still reaching way down into the gut for the strength of its bangers. would be an amazing album to take a walk to, which i deffo should sometime. something rly physically and emotionally vivacious here...a tactile watercolor symphony
Fantastic tracks! You can hear the influence it must have had on albums like The Crystal Method’s “Vegas,” for example. Impressive indeed.
CHEMICAL BROTHERS!!! This is my speed. I could listen to this one over and over. Solid 5/5. It's interesting to hear some of the motifs in this album that they reuse in future albums.
What a great trip down memory road of the early 90’s when this type music was brand new. Very much enjoyed listening to this album
If this is my initiation in electronic music, it worked. It was awesome from start to finish. Definitely gonna listen to this more.
Absolute blinder that seemingly came out of nowhere.
Addictive beats. The synths cut like buzzsaws and the bass is tight and rumbly on Leave Home. I dig it straight away. In Dust We Trust is even better with synth riffs and incessant drums. Lots of layered rhythms and melodies. Song To The Siren is more industrial, leading into Three Little Birdies Down beat with a steady 4/4 beat and grimy acid riff, strongest track so far for me. The acid sounds continue for another couple tracks, then we finally pause and Chico's Groove slows things down with breakbeats and spacey melodies. One Too Many Mornings is chilled out and pretty - the most radio friendly cut? The next couple of tracks are darker, more stripped down, and then Alive Alone is a melodic closer. The second half perfectly takes the edge off after the intensity of the first 6 tracks. Can't believe I haven't listened to this before.
I own this on CD. Classic big beat sounds
I love the first few Chemical Brothers album, and I like all of them. This isn't my favorite album by then, but it still was very important. This album helped push electronica into the mainstream in a way that it had never been before, and the years from the late 90's to early 00's had such amazing "mainstream" electronic acts like Chemical Brothers, Crystal Method, The Prodigy, Massive Attack, and more...
Initial thought: Hell yeah. I was a big club kid for about 15 minutes in my late teens/early 20s, and the Chemical brothers were *the* electronic band. I'm not entirely sure I've heard this album, but I played the shit out of Dig Your Own Hole. I have a feeling this is going to be fun. Yeah, that was great. Lots of layered sounds, complex beats, and it just sounds great! I didn't stop tapping my feet the entire album. 5 stars.
Perfect
Takes me right back to the days at The Ritz, this does. And some of it might have dated a bit, but it's still wall to wall bangers. And Life Is Sweet is simply magnificent. Few sounds take me back to the Ritz more than that rumbling beat bouncing off the walls. In Dust We Trust.
Low key sick
Best Chemical Brothers CD.
My only complaint is that I can't actually feel the music through the head phones. Love this, even if big beats are out of style.
Great music to program to.
So good once they calm down in the second half of the album
YESSS love chemical bros not my fave album tho
Unreal debut album for a brilliant 2 dudes from Manchester
Gull, redda meg da jeg måtte sloss med db fra munchen til mainz
Excellent listening
Never heard this before but it is exactly my jam. Big album generator win!
When it comes to big beat bangers, few beats bang bigger than those from The Chemical Bros.
Loved it
No one can convince me that the chemical brothers aren't some alien overlords that pick the perfect music to influence the genre with each generation.
I enjoyed listening to a predominantly percussion band
What a beast of an album - there are very little in the way of famous singles besides some lesser known ones but the whole album bangs hard end to end. A classic and underestimated one. Forgot how awesome The Chemical Brothers were at their height.
Nice
A record best played while walking under the blistering sunshine as the wind blows by, Exit Planet Dust is The Chemical Brothers not only unveiling themselves to the world but the world becoming a playground for their seemingly hedonistic approach to electronic music. Little did they know that they would set a template that would become carried out by their peers and that would subsequently turn their genre into a juggernaut by decade's end.
Much like this Chemical Brothers album, which made a big impact at the time, and I still think it is their best album. Different times..
This is NOT an album I can listen to every day. But I can see its value in different communities. If I am ever at a rave and I find out that this album isn’t on the setlist 🤢 I’ma go home 🤷🏽♀️! An underground club, this album and a few vices, sounds delicious. And strangely enough it kept me focused on my tasks throughout the hour I listened. It was fun. I enjoyed it.
Where my love affair with dance music began ❤️
There's a lot of electronic music to compete with these days, but this one holds up very well. Sweet beats and exciting sounds abound, especially in "Three Little Birdies" and "Chico's Groove."
The first two Chemical Brothers albums were my introduction to electronic music and I still to this day have not found another group that I think sounds similar to this. Their sound is defined and unique. Partly nostalgia speaking but these two albums are easily in my top 10 most listened to albums of all time. 10/10
That's proper
The brothers gonna work it out
These brothers gonna work it out! 5 stars easily and then realize the best was still to come, Dig Your Own Hole album, the successor. Yes I am that old that I saw them play in Paradiso, Amsterdam with their Block Rocking Beats after release of Dig your Own Hole. Life is sweet. If you don't get energy from this music, you might as well be braindead.
I listened to this a lot in the.mid 90s. Don’t feel like it’s aged well but it definitely took me back.
Excelente!!!!!!!!
Holds up well
I love this album. Absolute game changer for electronic music at the time, demanding to be listened to from start to finish.
This album is incredible and an undeniably important part of electronic music, still sounds great even to this day.
More like smoking planet dust and then dropping this bomb
A breakbeat classic
Guay.
Awesome music! Great to have in the background while doing chores and stuff, or driving around.
Bangers.
Liked it!
I knew I liked big beat, but not like this. The record runs without seams, which is appropriate for the wordless senseless assault. Just drum machines for an hour, I wrote about the Chemical Brothers before; It's still fair but has depth this time and then some. Exit Planet Dust won't make you much of a partner dancer as it soundtracks the rest of your life.
I love this album - I put so many tracks from this album on mixtapes. Theres a theme for pretty much everything in here. Great beats and a fantastic groove. It stands up to the test of time, and is just as good to listen to now as it was in the 90s. 5/5
I think that this is my favourite Chemical Brothers album. I actually listened to this the other day, but any excuse to go again...
I like this album. I know some of Chemical Brothers' songs but they were not here. Still really good album.
Zodra je het album aanzet weet je het al: The Brothers Gonna Work It Out.
Zoals Eric zou zeggen: 10 sterren!!!
Bought it in the 90s, and it is good. No mistake, it is repetitive. Not only is it repetitive, it is also repetitive. Coupled with how often it repeats itself, you might think the repetition would get repetitive, but somehow the repetitiveness is ABSOLUTELY AWESOMENESS. There's so much to love about this. It's catchy, it's clever, it's immaculately produced and it absolutely does not feel like it's almost thirty years old. The brothers' gonna work it out.
It is a pure magical experience. To have an album that is basically a continuum mix is truly marvellous.
Пууушкааа
Yes yes yes quality solid tunes begining to end. Reminds me of the 90s me lad when me hair was long and my knees where strong.
BANGER
Second The Chemical Brothers album on this list and first chronologically in their discography. I have listened to "Exit Planet Dust" before, but for some reason it didn't left any impression in me. After more thorough listening session, I thought that I like this album more than "Dig Your Own Hole", but still my favourite is "Surrender". Most likely through sentimental values, because songs and beats from "Exit Planet Dust" are really on par with anything else they recorded. Long parts with repeating beats, slightly changing and building momentum sound amazing on this record. Every track really held on its own and could easily be a single. After short consideration I think I will give it a 5 star, but probably one of the weakest so far - I enjoyed this album, but I feel something is missing.
Loved it. This is what electronic music should sound like.
Holy shit this album slaps. The beats early on are really strong, and just when it feels like enough it mellows out. Can see how this influenced the EDM scene and more.
Sempre all’avanguardia. Fortissimi
I really like this album and The Chemical Brothers in general. I need to spend more time with their music cause I really liked 'Dig Your Own Hole' as well when it came up on here for me previously. This is a really strong debut and I love the psychedelic rock vibes mixed in with the acid house. I would have really dug seeing them live if I could have back when this came out. Standout Tracks: Leave Home, In Dust We Trust, Chemical Beats, Chico's Groove, One Too Many Mornings, Life Is Sweet, Alive Alone
Best electronic album this exercise has to offer so far. Thoroughly enjoyed it
Reckon this'd be proper good to stare at the ceiling to
i don't understand how i never went bigger on the chemical brothers when they were in their pomp. i don't know how i could have listened to this album and not have fell absolutely in love with them. it genuinely baffles me that even having seen their phenomenal live shows and listened to all of their albums when they came out that i never went massive on them. wish i could go back and see them in their early years.
A big-beat classic, Dig Your Own Hole and Surrender would see the sound go mainstream with celebrity contributers. But this is pure big-beat. Great.

Back when the Chemies used to mean something. big, bold and wall to wall slaps
nice
Classic

Heard before. Quality album, great production, great guests. Well done all round, weird album art though
I’m a big fan of this genre and I also love chemical brothers so I’m kinda biased Seamless transitions.
Love the 90’s electronic sound
I never thought I'd like me some electric guitar and drums. Chemical romance are crayyy boi
Fucking love Chemical Brothers. One of the first bands I ever really fell in love with and they still have a special place in my heart. While I think they got even better than this debut, it's still absolutely killer.
Amazing album.
I was excited to see The Chemical Brothers pop up on the rotation. I am familiar with this duo in association with other artists of the style music, but didn’t know the album. It definitely lived up to my expectations. I loved it.
I LOVE this! What an incredible debut album from the 70s fashion cover design to the songs. I've definitely been missing out for the last 16 or so years! At any rate better late than never. This album is aggressive in all the ways great dance music should be. It starts off with the promise "The brothers gonna work it out" then spends the next 49 minutes doing just that. The first half of the album fires on all cylinders. Ferocious! Then we get to enter "Chico's Groove" where the Brothers take things down a notch leading the beautiful "One Too Many Mornings" and into a perfect wind down. I kept cranking this up as the album progressed. So good that at times it had me wondering if someone dropped an E into my sparkling water... It will be tough to name a favorite song from this album. A fantastic masterpiece of EDM from start to finish!
Outstanding. Many happy memories
YEEEEE CHEMICAAAAL, BUDUMMM BUDUMMMM
Gyors, felpörget, egyáltalán nem egysíkú vagy unalmas. Get shit done érzésem van amikor hallgatom. Fogom még hallgatni.
Хороший альбом, но не лучший
The start of a epic journey. Love it.
Love a bit of the chemical brothers, love a continuous album, great stuff
- this album rocks but maybe dwells on some loops a little too long. - I forgot how much fun it is to work to big-beat, album is almost too dance-able to go with spreadsheets. - undersells its bass and guitars, oversells the phasing square synths. - fairly repetitious structure in most tracks (strong & creative intro, energetic beats to 3/4 mark, then a downtempo loop breakdown that's a little too long) - second half is a strong shift, astute ordering. - The Matrix 4 can't come fast enough.
Quality. Maybe a tad relentless at points Could do with some more variety between songs. The first six easily could all be the same song. Also didn't know they used to be called "the dust brothers"
Really good and well put together album
Top notch. Kind of psychedelic/electric?
Surprisingly good! A nice mixture of chill, focusing and energising music, great for working to

A veces la electrónica me cansa porque me parece que puede ser muy monótona, pero con este disco no me paso, tiene varios moods (?) y es muy disfrutable
Awesome album, I realy digged it.
Nick thought it was a belter
Classic shit.

Nice
Not as good as they're next too records, but as a debut this serves as a nearly perfect introduction to the band. Favorite track: Alive Alone 3.5/5
This type of music is really not my cup of tea but no denying their talent.
Electronic big beat GOLD, maybe even a classic for the genre
I LOVE BIG BEAT RAAAHHHHH
Rockin beats
Innovative, great sounding drums and cool sound design. Electronica can tend towards the overly repetitive, especially with dance fans as a target audience, but this manages to keep things interesting.
not something I would ever choose to listen to but good for what it was. Glad they didnt add random nothing vocals
Do like the chemical brothers, searching for their name it appears we've had one other album but I've used them to describe other artists loads of times. Was some of the heaviest electronic music I'd hear on the radio I think so stood out against the house music blandness. Always interesting to hear a debut but frequently they aren't the same standard as later stuff, I'd say they weren't completely into their groove yet. Knew chemical beats but nothing else, though a lot of the tracks sounded like ideas that would go on to be more famous tracks. Not their best but still a good listen, 3.5.
Was very into this! Super vibey and electronic, upbeat.
It's a bunch of pounding electronic beats and it all sounds kind of the same, but I like it. It's easy to listen to while I'm working or doing something else, which is when I listen to music most of the time. I wouldn't actively listen to it so much but I have a lot of time and space for music like this. Different situations and different times need different soundtracks. I might have been a bit generous with four stars, but it was a summery, warm, breezy day when I listened, I was feeling nostalgic and I was in a good mood.
Big Beat Bastards. Yeah sure this has aged and it doesn't feel quite as important as it should, but this shit still holds up and you should be very grateful.
Nice, not super special but nice beats
Great edm
First time listening to Exit Planet Dust, and this thing rips. It’s grimy, psychedelic, repetitive in the right way, and constantly moving. The energy and production still feel really alive. Really enjoyed this and can see it growing on me. 4/5.
First Listen: NA OVERALL: I LOVE BIG BEAT GON. GON I LOVE BIG BEAT. GOOOOON I LOVE BIG BEAT. BIG BEAT HAAAAAAAA I love the seamless transitions making this feel as though you're listening to a Chemical Brothers' set. Just plain fun. 8.5/10 T3: In Dust We Trust, Playground For A Wedgeless Firm, Three Little Birdies Down Beats
This passed me by back in the day, more of a Oasis, Blur etc kinda chap back in 95. So was delighted to discover that this is a pretty decent album. An extra star for Beth Orton's cameo at the end!
Very good
Tres bon
Banger after banger after banger. Love this album, though I typically prefer some of their later, more psychedelic stuff. I've had the pleasure of seeing Chemical Brothers live a couple times, and they're always transcendent. I'm going 4/5 on this, Further would be a 5/5 but I don't think it's on the list.
Much better than I was expecting after all the other electronica albums on this list.
This was really cool - yet another one that I would never have had a chance to hear but for this project. Had it on in the background during work and, weirdly, was absolutely awesome for that purpose.
Surprisingly enjoyed this. When I see a 90s album from a pioneering electronic artist, I am prepared to be let down. This time it actually resembled dance music and was fun
Sometimes, you wonder just how random this machine is, because this is the second consecutive day I've generated a British Electronica album that was released in the mid 1990s. With that being said, this one is much better than yesterday's. This is definitely catchy club music, and it ends on a high note as well. Favorite Track: "Alive Alone".
I've heard some songs in isolation, but never a full album of theirs. I loved how it flowed into one superset.
Had to be a bit patient with this one, on first listen I was a bit distracted and found it all kind of bled together. Gave it some more time to appreciate the nuances. Starts really strong with the opening track ultimately being one of the standouts on the album but I really enjoyed its transition into In Dust We Trust. The album has a breezy vibe to it but not so chill that you won’t be encouraged to bop along to it. I really appreciated Playground of a Wedgeless Firm at the back end of the album, it has a bit of a spooky feel to it and had me thinking of DJ Shadow. This was a good listen. 4 stars
Debut album from the Chemical Brothers was another enjoyable album I hadn't listened to in a long time. Combined good beats and dancy numbers like Leave Home and Chemical Beats with some chilled numbers like Chicos Groove and One Too Many Mornings. 4 stars
90s electronica, trip hop. Debut. Action-Movie electronica.
Ikke lige så godt som det sidste vi havde med dem men virkelig fedt. Elsker når vi får et godt elektronisk album
Pretty solid electronic album start to finish. Couldn't really tell where one song ended and another began, but together it seemed great
I'm kind of torn on this because this is like, from start-to-finish the soundtrack for diving through the air with two berettas in a 90's action movie. Depending on how I'm feeling at that moment that can either be cheesy, awesome or both. It's not my favorite but it goes really hard the whole time. I almost wanted to do a begrudging 5 star because it is probably worth hearing and it is a distinct era in music history.
This album is a lot of fun! I really adore the first half, the second half isn’t bad, it just doesn’t hit like first half. The best tracks in no order is “leave home” “in dust we trust” “three little birdies down beats” and “chemical beats”. It’s so original and creative, and it’s just exploding with personality and energy. This is another artist I’m totally sold on now and it’s entirely because of this list. Just a great album.
Dope album!
It seems the beginning of electronic music mixed with rock n' roll. The sound is great!
Banger.
Very funky!
Very cool, I liked it! Stand-outs - Leave Home - Chico's Groove - Alive Alone
Exquisito. No tanto como Dig pero vamos a reescuchar seguro. Nota: 4.0
Good.
Enjoyable house electronica. To me they are the essence of what 90s electronica sounded like, and though I some tracks fade into the background a bit, overall I really enjoy it.
Superior
Nice music for studying lol
1 - Leave Home (The brother's gonna work it out. That's how this didgeridoo-laced opener starts as it jolts between 70s funk, hip hop and good old fashioned Amen break-inspired big beat. Doesn't feel at all like it's 5 and 1/2 minutes. This album is off to a great start) 4.5/5 2 - In Dust We Trust (the didgeridoo sound from the opener gets full on wonky as as this song goes for a more futuristic sound. The beats are a lot bouncier to reflect the sky-high vibe of this song. It sounds downright extraterrestrial at times. I've definitely heard their work before, on Primal Scream's XTRMNTR) 4/5 3 - Song to the Siren (a live track named after an essential Tim Buckley tune. The warped Lisa Gerrard-type voice makes me think I've heard the original sample long ago. Aside from the "live" tag nothing about it sounds particularly spur-of-the-moment; it's about as doctored as the rest of the studio fare) 3.5/5 4 - Three Little Birdies Down Beats (the voice from the previous track is twisted into the base note of this song as it transitions; that's always been one of my favourite tricks. It then jumps into something much more neon-tinged as the song's whirring beat drones on for the next 3 minutes before calming down. Now this is the one that feels live!) 4.5/5 5 - Fuck Up Beats (a short little interlude that kind of sounds like being backstage and hearing the muffled sound of a band on stage. Or being in a locker room just before the walk on music plays) 3.5/5 6 - Chemical Beats (the skronk is strong with this one, and it's one of the first songs on this album to have a quick little buildup. It's big beat though so it means the beat just comes back a little louder. This one gets a little samey after hearing it for nearly 5 minutes straight but the use of an organic drum intro makes it feel like a band got sent to an alternate high-tech universe and were brought back to Earth just as they got to the last minute of the song) 4/5 7 - Chico's Groove (this one does what it says in the title. A much quieter groove compared to the raucous jumping vibe of the rest of the album. It allows for a breath of fresh air before returning to the proverbial dance floor for the final stretch) 4/5 8 - One Too Many Mornings (this one sure does sound like the morning after an absolute rager or rave. After all the high-octane beats it pays to have a relaxing one like this even if it did come right after a groovier piece. The distant female voice is, in a way, the closest Chemical Brothers ever got to dream pop) 4/5 9 - Life Is Sweet (this one is probably the biggest burst of energy on the album so far, though it might be because it follows 2 slower tracks. This song is essentially the godfather of the Prodigy's Funky Shit, odd to say as the 2 were contemporaries. The changeup 4 minutes in is a really nice change of pace and gives this song, the longest one on the album, some staying power) 4.5/5 10 - Playground for a Wedgeless Firm (the buzzing squealing noise tickles the lizard part of my brain for some reason and contrasts very well with the groovier beat. Another little interlude that offers a futuristic and bizarre mood where the previous one was just a breather) 4/5 11 - Alive Alone (an honest-to-God pop song featuring Beth Orton. I love the contrast between her languid, sweet voice and the jarring swirling electronics behind her. Orton kind of sounds like Nico in places. All in all an excellent closer that shows the Chemical Brothers had tricks up their sleeves yet) 4.5/5 OVERALL - 8.2/10
I did not expect to wake up and rave my face off while making waffles for my family, but at this point in middle age I just accept the rave when it finds me . This album is obviously a classic. I love the upbeat vibes in the first half, but the downtempo tracks are even better and had me missing a proper chill room. The acid synths, big beats, and wobbly base lines are infectious and fun. This is always a great album to revisit.
cool
The Crystal Method we're all over the place in the late 90s. Soundtracks, guest appearances, remixes, all over. I had several friends that got into them at the time, but I never really hit expired to any of their full albums. Though after listening to this, I certainly would have. 90s electronica in the general vain of The Prodigy? Yes please.
Much more like it from the Chems here, after feeling a little let down by Red Snapper a couple of days ago. This feels like ever-so-slightly before their absolutely best phase, but it's still great. I don't know how they do it, but I'd say they're one of few EDM bands that are perfectly acceptable even on a workday at 2.30pm.
It’s alright. Pretty good in fact. 3.5 stars.
I love the big beat, and preferred it back in the day over the Fatboy. This is really good rock and roll, Tom and Ed always had one eye on the sixties, which kept it away from the endless techno stuff. It kicks, it hits,it is big. Really enjoyed this, I'd reckon a great car trip album to keep you going through the night.
Great sound. I’ve never listened to them before.
Chem Bros are ahead of the game by supplying Skynet with victory music after supreme victory.
Good album! I listened to it on my own (ie not as part of this project) just a couple weeks ago and was glad to listen to it again today.
I love this style of music from late 90s electronic, such as Moby and in Ratchet and Clank. This album Is very good, with some interesting sounds, but not quite as polished as some others for the Chemical Brothers debut.
I'll be coming back to this for sure.
I get the Chemical Brothers and the Dust Brother confused sometimes. And that was BEFORE I even read about the name controversy. I'm not usually a fan of electronic music, but this is so damn good (like the Dust Brothers) I can't help myself. Solid, energetic beats. Precision sample selection and placement. A lot of times I find this music repetitive to exhaustion, but these guys have figured out just how to manipulate things so it never really feels that way. Speaking of repetitive... Damn this is good.
a fun electronic album
used to listen to them a lot!
I really enjoyed this one and unlike the previous day's album by Underworld, these tracks evolved. I've added it to my playlist.
Compared to my consumption of all things Rock related, I very rarely listen to Electronic music or at least listen to a full album. This is mainly due to the repetitive and sprawling nature of the music which is always a factor. I grew up listening to The Chemical Brothers with their big hits like Forever Be and Hey Boy Hey Girl, however, i don't recall hearing anything from this album. If I can compare it to a rock album it would be Bleach by Nirvana due it only being loved by purists and the group's sound evolving to something more charts friendly on the follow-up. So the question is, are the purists correct as this is seen as a pioneer in Big Beat electronic music. I will say as a positive the 50 minute runtime did not feel like an endurance test here, a lot of the tracks flowed nicely into each other. In fact it almost plays like a live set with a real band which gives it its charm. Would I say this is worthy of 5 stars though? Not quite. For how well the songs flowed, except for the Brothers Gonna Work It Out sample on Leave Home (which I knew from Public Enemy) unfortunately the majority of these songs don't necessarily have a memorable hook. Nonetheless, its a fine album and time has been kind to it.
Glad to get a dance album during this project. Far too few. Not the best, but better than most previous singer songwriter output
Cant believe it was 1995. Exciting and genre bending
Weirdly, I know “Dig Your Own Hole” really well and then stopped paying attention to the Chemical Brothers. This is alright. More like a mixtape or a DJ set than an album - which I suppose is the point. It all grooves along well enough but not a lot stuck in my head after one listen. “Leave Home” is the stand out track.
Classic debut chems.
Chem bros got the chem beats and we all live better through chemistry
Still fun! I like their style.
Iconic Big Beat record. Just an absolute slab. Love the blown out basslines and pummeling breakbeats. None of it is subtle, but sometimes music is meant to just rattle your bones. If you don't like this one at first, try playing it painfully loud.
this album is very… interesting but in a good way. i have no idea if i’ll ever listen to any of these songs ever again, but they were pretty good and psychedelic
Favourite Songs: Leave Home In Dust We Trust Playground For A Wedgeless Firm
Very cool! I love sample-based electronic music like this.
Great Album.
Pre-hype Big Beat that still hits. Hypnotic, motorik, and cool in a way that doesn't try too hard. A couch-melter with a pulse.
Enjoyable but forgettable electronic music. Good for a Matrix cosplay party or something like that. I will say though… it definitely had a distinct sound. Once it ended another CB song started and I knew it wasn’t from this album immediately
Exit Planet Dust estuvo super divertido. Buen album to work out or just dance to, mucha energia, un buen sonido. Me gusto mucho como las canciones seemed to blend into one another pero se sentian distintas cada una. Super cool! 4/5
Yes!
Another electronic album! Very fun and I can see why people really enjoy them.
Another genre I’m generally lukewarm towards but I liked this execution. I was nodding along to most of it and particularly liked Life is Sweet.
My washing machine enjoyed it.
this may be my favorite electronic album on this list so far, as a comprehensive *album*. the usual complaints about electronic albums on this list -- too long, too unfocused, desperately in need of a dj -- did not apply.
Always down for some chemical bros
Not necessarily something for active listening, but solid background music
# Album Name: Exit Planet Dust # Artist: Chemical Brothers # Rating: 4/5 # Comments: An album i should not enjoy but i kinda did. There wasnt a track that really stood out but it was good as an overall listen. # Top Tunes: # Would I listen to it again? Yes
4/5 https://rateyourmusic.com/release/album/the-chemical-brothers/exit-planet-dust/ Misses some of their charting monster hits that follow, which might actually make it work better as an album. I’ll always have a soft spot for Chemical Brothers, but mainly focused on those big hits.
Yuck Drugs music.
So vibey and atmospheric that I almost forgot to party
This is one of my favorites. I somehow stumbled upon this album around the time it was released and it instantly hooked me. The first 3 tracks and Life is Sweet, especially the transition from that into Playground for a Wedgeless Firm, are the standouts. The whole album is tremendous though.
Makesbme want to rave on my commute.
Didn’t finish it but added to a few playlists. These albums are tough to listen to front to back for me unless I’m doing something else at the same time. But, I dug it more than I usually do this sort of thing.
BEATS BEATS BEATS
I'm not a rave person but this was such a fun ride I will definitely listen again.
Best experienced walking through a city in the early morning when it's still dark. Pure vibes.
Brought the underground rave EDM to the main stream in the mid 90s. I enjoyed their next album more back in the day, but this one set the stage. It gets a bit repetitive, but the beats are foundational to the genre.
enjoyable tunes to work to Would I listen again? Yes Deserves to be on this list? Probably 4.2
The Chemical Brothers have been incredible producers right from the start. If only everyone had heard this album when it first came out. It was a game-changer, so unique and way ahead of its time. Their beats are like nothing else, with a raw, unpolished production style that brings out tons of color and texture. Think breakbeats fused with neo-psychedelia, plus influences from house, rock, hip-hop, and just about every genre under the sun.
kapoot salud
Haven't listened to this one in a while. It's great but not as great as Dig Your Own Hole. I absolutely love the first and last song, but find the bits in the middle hit and miss.
Very cool hypnotic grooves and beats. Just makes you move. Not what I’d typically listen to, but this is great.
Vibes of a big Guy Ritchie montage. Good variety and fun listen.
This reminds me of a bird’s life. It appears chaotic and full of energy. Nests must be built, territory protected, and a suitable mate found for babies. Up early, push through, zip back and forth finding food and bedding materials. It appears exhausting but delightful all the same!!!
old school electronic just has such a cool vibe to it. loved this album
#192/1001. The story went something like this: “We’ll be the Dust Brothers! No… Well it wasn’t wise to use the same name as our inspiration, we need an exit plan, exit from planet dust!” On a lecture on music vs sound art the teacher talked about music made only with ‘sounds’ instead of instruments and played Block Rocking Beats as an example. Although they were in no way pioneering this kind of production (and also neglecting to call bass lines, synths and drums as music), ever since listening to the Chemical Brothers I am spotting the sounds, wondering about sonic collages, ways of layering sounds to create compositions in the new world. Here’s the sonical journey seems to travel song to song, like adj gig in a club, inviting singers towards the end to finish the gig in style. Good start for the Brothers, but more bangers are yet to come.
You can't actually expect someone to sit down and listen to a full album of this kind of music. It's hard to resist the the urge to dance. But I did and I liked the album. Still a banger all these years later. You don't get this kind of fusion of instrumentation in today's electronic and club music.
Reliable stalwarts of the British electronica scene of the mid 90s, this is a great debut album. The first six tracks flow into each other as a coherent set, with some great beats and carefully chosen samples. It’s obvious a lot of thought went into this as a showcase for their talents, and still sounds impressive given that they started developing these tracks using a humble Atari ST home computer. They also featured on the massively influential soundtrack for Wipeout on the original PlayStation which cemented their reputation with the cool kids and computer nerds. The rest of the tracks feature guest vocals from Tim Burgess and Beth Orton showing they are capable of putting songs together as well as killer dance tracks. This album will definitely be getting a repeat listen today.
Continua atual.
Well I really enjoyed, and that’s all I kind of ask for when an album I don’t know comes on here. That it makes me want to listen again, and not because I feel it must be better with a second listen but like in this case I just damn enjoyed. At the tale end of 2025, and if you would have asked me 30 years ago if I would have liked the Chemical bro album better than rock albums from the time or since I wouldn’t have believe it, but there you are. As some say banging (??). 4 Star
Good, sometimes great, crowd-pleasing 90s big beat electronica.
didn’t hold up as well as i had hoped, but still brought me right back to the era
Sounds like the feeling you had walking the hallways of middle school after first cup of coffee you had as a 7th grader. 7/10
Hell yeah this rules. Can't help but compare it to LTJ Bukem because we just had that, but this was better beats, had more direction, and was a more appropriate length. Great album to lock in to
listening when: during my hot girl walk thoughts: BANGERRRR. finally. all instrumentals tho very few vocals but so good. would listen again. rating: 8/10
I know dig your own hole a lot better, but this is just as great, I love big beat, spent a good few years in the 00s djing breakbeat which was what this stuff evolved into. It was nice when electronic artists were treated like bands, and you’d get a full album. I know it still happens to an extent but the focus seems to be more on quick fix singles. So yeah I’m a dinosaur. Anyway this is tune after tune, and it stays true to the big beat manifesto: BIG BEATS ARE THE BEST, GET HIGH ALL THE TIME!
Good easy listening music
Es un estupendo disco de musica electronica que, sorprendentemente, no extiende su estadia asi como los otros que hay en esta lista.
Slight fault that most tracks are slow. 4/5
Nothing like a cracker of an electronic album to chuck on in the afternoon during a workout! I was already familiar with The Chemical Brothers somewhat through 'Hey Boy Hey Girl' and 'Galvanize', two sensational dance tracks, but their debut album, 'Exit Planet Dust', is such a dense, well-produced and creative adventure in electronica that serves as a perfect companion to staying focused and pumped. Britain certainly saw some outstanding electronic acts emerge in the 1990s, and The Chemical Brothers is, for good reason, one of the more prominent ones. Much like The Prodigy and Fatboy Slim, The Chemical Brothers turned house and rave music into genuine chart-topping sensations in the late 90s, and 'Exit Planet Dust' was just the start of this Manchester duo's meteoric rise. I swear there's more influential British acts from Manchester than there is London. Did I mention this is a cracking record to work out to? Best songs: Leave Home, Life Is Sweet
Essential listening
Typically excellent stuff, really enjoyed three little birdies down beats
Ear worm extravaganza
some of it isn't quite homogenous. but overall great.
We really enjoyed this, the kids said this is songs either created by aliens for humans or by humans for aliens.
I’d love to dance with them in a club. I listened to the album while chilling on the couch what was not ideal - around chemical beats I got a bit bored and quite happy about the following psychedelic, calmer pieces. In the right setting every piece is brilliant.
Varied and really well done
My first introduction to Chemical Brothers were the singles from Dig Your Own Hole, and it wasn’t until Surrender that I really became a fan, probably because they were hard to avoid at that point. Whilst I kept up with them to a point, I have been less engaged with their most recent offerings. However, I have spent a lot of time going back to listen to their first 2 albums. This is about as pure an album as they come for this genre, and something I’ve come to appreciate more than some of the big collaborations that came later. I might prefer Dig Your Own Hole, if only for the Private Psychedelic Reel alone so the only question is whether their impressive debut gets 4 or 5 stars. The sequencing is great and it blends seamlessly, offering big beats early on and bringing some of the more chilled tracks in the second half. The transition from Song to the Siren into Three Little Birdies Down Beats is a highlight for me.
> The Beatles Finally a good English electronic album
Love this. Hypnotic beats that pulse and hum with energy and drive. This was instrumental in bringing electronic music to the masses and foreshadowed the band they were to come. Not quite at the same level as their following album, but excellent none the less.
I do enjoy some Chemical Brothers now and again
This definitely reminded me of my childhood. Truly ahead of their time and their own style of pop punk.
Great pumping album
Excellent electronic dance music with a rock sensibility, the album starts with “Leave Home”, probably the best track, driving and powerful with a bass player upfront and centre. It is the first of six songs with are mixed and run together like a DJ set. The second half of the album is more chilled with nice vocals from Tim Burgess, from the Charlatans, on “Life is Sweet” and Beth Orton on closer “Alive Alone.” I really like the record. Nice cover too with a hippieish-looking couple walking along a verge of an American road.
Even though this album may not be as energetic or atmospheric as some of the most notable works of this genre, it has a sound that I dig a lot and I'm a fan of, as it is very consitent and rich in details. There a lot of build ups (even though some don't reach a good high point, like in the opening track) and some nice passages, specially in the latest tracks. Overall, is just a fun album. I don't really have anything more to add.
8 Needed that
This was awesome, I need to listen to more of these guys
A fantastic debut, although they would climb higher over their next few releases. This is the start of Bug Beat having a moment in the sun.
The genre isn't something I would normally like but this album surprised me
Ça ressemble un peu aux Dust Brothers. C’est pas de la musique que j’écoute normalement, mais c’était un bel album et de la belle musique.
Such a cool sound. Definitely informed electronic music of the late 90s and 2000s. More mellow than I would have guessed
Much better than their sophomore album.
Sweet groovy listen
I’m not much into this genre, but Chemical Brothers were clearly ahead of their time; trailblazers. This record has a cool, funky groove, but with an electronic twist. Dug it.
Having moved on from the Dust Bros, the Chemical Bros are still trusters of dust, as they clarify on the second track of this record. In reality, however, they're closer to something alchemical: their genius is sample-based and organized around making the big breakbeat even bigger than it is. Before Fatboy, Daft Punk, etc., the duo from Manchester, much like Philip Glass in the realm of European forms, alchemized the repetitive into something less redundant than a whole lot of apparently variegated popular music. +, as the cover-art couple distills - a couple that brings to mind Dylan and Suze Rotolo on Freewheelin' - there's something so 90s-optimistic about this LP that it's as if The Stone Roses' up-for-whatever slant is tautened + purified.
Enjoyed it more than I expected since it's not normally my jam. Bonus points that one of them apparently went to my high school. Good background work music, and felt a bit like being in a Guy Ritchie movie
Top notch instrumentals 👌
Pretty samey but I did have a good time listening
This was pretty fun!
Solid instrumentation to match up with solid dance beats. The album is among their best.
Very solid! I can see myself returning to this.
Classic
The Chemical Brothers are the electronica band that got me into the genre. Although it was their 2nd album (which I expect to get a spot) that hooked me, their debut is a worthy lister. The Dusty Bros bring simple, solid beats with B-Boy edge. All tracks good. A side pops with a little more energy. Side B mellows out but has my favorite track "Playground for a Wedgeless Firm." Not much to it but it just works. Their CDs were warped from so much play in my discman no doubt. Exit Planet Dust gets high rank from me not just for the tunes but also for their influence on me as a teen...4.3 starts.
It's a nice background listen, but forgettable. 2.5 for me.
yes, Chemical Brothers kennt man!
Solid electronic music that knows when to end the damn song.
All time classic
Very nostalgic. The formula would improve with Dig Your Own Hole but still great stuff!
Ah my rave days still live within me. But I prefer Dig Your Own Hole.
Music for a 90's hacker/spy movie. Love. 4/5
Just a solid ass listen… what can I say
i feel like i hear about this band a lot ... but i actually dont think that is true .. i think theyre the band called my chemical romance. and this is the first time ive listened to either my chemical romance or the chemical brothers. the brothers are good ill see about the romance some other time
I liked this a lot! I was vibing with it just about until the 9th track, "Life is Sweet". I still enjoyed the entire thing, but once that longest track was 2/3rds through I was getting a bit tired of it. Still great! I just think the highlights are from the beginning to the middle of the album! I would give this an 8/10
Nice electronics, vocals and sampling. Cohesive and enjoyable record. Was expecting metal, definitely wasn't metal lol
great Electronica
