So apparently this is as "vital" an album as Abbey Road, Exile on Main Street and Dark Side of The Moon... ... It isn't.

Christ...
Was quite impressed when I got the first couple of EC albums... This is like the 6th on the list - and his voice is irritating.
Fucking awful.
I'm sure it was ground breaking in 1982... But it's cringey as fuck in 2023...

Didn't like The Doors before I listened to this all the way through... Don't like them now. Maybe 3 good songs across their whole catalogue.
Fucking terrible
Fucking awful.
So apparently this is as "vital" an album as Abbey Road, Exile on Main Street and Dark Side of The Moon... ... It isn't.
Not as good as OK Computer, In Rainbows or Moon Shaped Pool - but still cracking.
That's 3 Leonard Cohen albums I've listened to thanks to this list. Hopefully that's enough... 1 extra star for "So Long, Marianne" - when he's not being so bloody morose, he's not a bad vocalist...
Dirge.
More Leonard Cohen... I mean, really?! 4 albums out of 1001 so far. Hopefully, this is the last. The title track is rather good, but my god he needs a holiday in the sun and to cheer the fuck up.
He's obviously a musical genius - but just not my thing... I'm sure there'll be another 7 Prince albums in this list. Hoping one of them will be Batman.
Pop by committee...
Absolute drivel.
I wish you could leave '0' star reviews.
Some good songs... It's veeeeeeeeerrrrrrrrry long though. Could be 30 mins shorter.
Back to the 90s :-)
Literally couldn't tell the difference between songs. Pop trash.
I want to give this -5 stars. Muddy, badly produced, all sounds the same dirge that goes on for about 76 hours. I listened to it just because I feel I have to. But fuck ME it's shite.
Everything that was awful about 80s music.
Wasn't on Spotify. Used YouTube... Wasn't terrible.
I'm sure it was ground breaking in 1982... But it's cringey as fuck in 2023...
Possibly the single worst album I've ever listened to.
Interesting - but I don't think I'll be listening again...
I'm sure the songs are great - but you can't tell thanks to the awful sound quality...
Fred Durst is a whiny bitch who can't write a decent lyric to save his life. That said, I was 23 when this came out and re-listening to it for the first time in 20 years, took me back to bouncing around my first flat after a night at the pub with the gang. So it's a 0/10 for 2024 me - but a solid 4/5 for 2001 me.
I wonder what the weather was like on their planet... I'm sure it was quite enjoyable if you'd smoked ALL of the weed... But I hadn't...
The RnB piss take by Goldie Lookin Chain is less cheesy than this...
Much better than I thought it would be. 60's Psychedelia with a slightly harder edge.
Oar-ful.
Not for me...
I wanted to stick a knitting needle in my ears...
I wanted to break up with myself after listening to this... Shame 'cos her early stuff was great!
Toooooo loooooooooooong!
1 hour and 15 minutes felt like about 7 years...
This is so repetitive...This is so repetitive...This is so repetitive...This is so repetitive...This is so repetitive...This is so repetitive...This is so repetitive...This is so repetitive...This is so repetitive...This is so repetitive...This is so repetitive...This is so repetitive...This is so repetitive...This is so repetitive...This is so repetitive...This is so repetitive...This is so repetitive...This is so repetitive...This is so repetitive...This is so repetitive...This is so repetitive...This is so repetitive...This is so repetitive...This is so repetitive...This is so repetitive...This is so repetitive...This is so repetitive...This is so repetitive...This is so repetitive...This is so repetitive...This is so repetitive...This is so repetitive...This is so repetitive...This is so repetitive...This is so repetitive...This is so repetitive...This is so repetitive...This is so repetitive...This is so repetitive...This is so repetitive...This is so repetitive...This is so repetitive...This is so repetitive...This is so repetitive...This is so repetitive...This is so repetitive...This is so repetitive...This is so repetitive...This is so repetitive...This is so repetitive...This is so repetitive...This is so repetitive...This is so repetitive...This is so repetitive...This is so repetitive...
Christ...
I. Hate. This.
Love the Hives - but this is a greatest hits album and so shouldn't count
It's very good - but not for me.
Everything that's wrong with 80s pop music in 57 minutes. Awful.
Thought he was over-rated in 2003. Just confirmed in 2025.
Couldn't listen to the whole thing - but found most of the tracks on YouTube. Was much better than expected - shame it's not on UK Spotify
Music good - I can't stand his singing style though.
Borrrrrrrrrrrring!
What the fuck is this?!
God I hate the 80s... This was better than I thought it would be.
I still hat the 80s... But this wasn't terrible... In fact it was much better than expected...
That's 4 80s records in a row. I hope when I hit the button I get something from a better decade. This was alright... For the 80s.
Good background music - I'm not sure if I really really like it or not. But I've saved it for future re-listening....
100% pure, concentrated blandness. They obviously know how to play their instruments... But fuck me it's bland... M A K E C O L D P L A Y H I S T O R Y
I don't get it. I'm probably not supposed to. Fine, whatever, let's move on...
Better than I remember it to be fair... Laura, Mary, Take Your Mama are all fantastic songs... The Comfortably Numb travesty is still one of the worst things I've ever heard in my life though. So it loses an extra star.
Have tried to listen to this loads over the years but it's never clicked... I think it might have this time...
Bit over the top avant garde for me...
I feel like I'm sat in a WW2 theatre in Berlin and I'm about to ask for 3 drinks using the wrong fingers...
Dull...
Surprisingly good...
I know... I know... I don't quite believe it either - but it's a banger... ... He's still a prick though...
This one snuck up on me... I'd forgotten how good they actually are...
Not their best...
I just don't get Nick Cave...
This is... Not terrible... Certainly not good... It's just... Meh!
Big up The Stone Roses!
The music is actually really good - but the vocals are batshit insane!
Yawn...
Sometimes I'm almost persuaded that my hate of 80s synth-pop is slightly irrational. And then I hear stuff like this that makes me want to punch the entire decade in the dick... Awful. -5 points.
A bit "twee" to give it anything over a 3 - but I never realised Phil Collins was *such* an epic drummer!
Funkin' hell this is good!
Meh
Twiddly jazz... Not bad - not great...
How this has the reputation it does, I'll never get... Middle of the road dirge...
Starts well - thought I was going to like it - and then.... Meh!
I listened to this... I couldn't tell you anything about it 'cos it blended into the background. So It's successful at it's aim I guess...
There was a couple of moments where my foot started tapping a bit - but it's all very forgettable.
"Hey ChatGPT - write me a list of 1001 albums you must listen to before you die. Include 500 albums you should actually listen to - and then fill the rest of the list with mediocre bollocks that should be lost in the mists of time."
Don't really get the love for this.. De La Soul are legendary with sampling. This was shouty and random...
Really enjoyed this more than I thought I would based on the 2 other Kinks songs I knew...
You can hear how this influenced pretty much every album I've loved since I was a kid...
Never really got into NC & TBS... This album was really interesting though... Not sure about every track - but overall I enjoyed it.
This is quite possibly the worst album I have ever listened to in my life... It's like a shit parody of a student album. Utterly, utterly awful.
This is awesome.
I think maybe Paul was the talented one... This just sounds like a bitter man shouting about stuff he doesn't believe in any more.
3 stars worth of hard punk. +1 star for being 15 minutes long.
This was much better than I expected it to be
Quite possibly the worst album I have ever listened to. I wanted to set myself on fire.
Really not my sort of thing... I don't know if it's good or not...
DUUUUUUUUUUULLLLLLLLLLLL!
Boring! Why do these hip-hop albums have to be so loooong?!
I should hate this - but it's reaaaaaly good! :-D
Not for me...
An interesting listen.
Listened to this on and off throughout the day. The only album in over 800 so far that I've not listened to all the way through. Completely self-absorbed by Magnetic Fields. Nobody needs to listen to 3 hours of anything. Any band without their head up their arse would have finessed this to maybe a double album of 18 really, really good songs. 2 stars because there are some good tracks on here, but not 69 of them.
What a piece of shit - but he could play piano...
Great voice let down by mediocre 80s music
What in the ever living fuck is this?!?!
Surprisingly good Madonna album... Or is it a William Orbit album feat. Madonna?
Meh
Was quite impressed when I got the first couple of EC albums... This is like the 6th on the list - and his voice is irritating.
Yawn... Very middle of the road. Not sure why I needed to hear it before I die...
Oooh - I like this... Never listened to them before...
If I wasn't 900+ albums into this list, I'd probably give this a 4... But I am. And there are many, many more 'must hear' albums better than this that I only gave a 3 to. So it gets a 2.
Great voice, obviously... But fuuuuuuuuck me this album is dull... 1 decent song. You know which one it is.
2 hours?!? 2 HOURS?! No.
I thought I quite liked Daft Punk... This album almost persuaded me otherwise...
Opening track is great... Shame there's more.
I hate the Doors....
Better than I remember it
It's dated - but can't deny how ground breaking it was for the time.
Listened to this 3 times on the bounce... And then bought the vinyl. Gorgeous album!
This felt about 20 hours long...
Odd... Great in places... Very odd in others... Will listen again though.
Duuuullllllll.....
Thought this started promising... But then... it didn't really go anywhere for me.
He might have been a bit of a cunt - but I liked this album.
1 great album's worth of content spread far too thinly.
Nowhere near as iconic as Dummy.
This gave me a headache.
Meh... The Weight is a classic I suppose, but the rest of the album is very average.
You can hear how this influenced things like Pixies etc I think... Not bad, but not mind-blowing. Kinda like Pixies...
Good album - but this is like the 30th Elvis Costello album on this list.
It was alright I suppose... I'd hate to see a whole concert of it though...
Not something I'm going to listen to regularly - but some good stuff on here.
Bloody love this album...
First time listening to Tom Waits... Loved this.
Awful. Even by Madonna's standards.
Not for me...
I liked this a lot more than I remembered... Fun, cutting lyrics in the vein of Jarvis... Not quite as catchy music as Pulp though.
Had never heard of this lot - can see how it influenced *everything* post-punk / indie after it.
Hated the SFA back in the day... Really enjoyed it this time round...
Disc one is fire. Disc 2 is shite.
Annoyingly toe-tappy. I dislike the man, but this is a decent album.
Whimsy for whimsies sake.
Not Bowie's best - but even his misses are better than most hits...
Not usually an Elvis fan, but this had my foot tapping...
The sound of my mid-20s... Strong debut - their later output wasn't as good.
Not my usual taste - but some bangers on this...
Great voice, but blaaaaaaaaaaaaand...
Quite possibly the worst album I've ever listened to... And my sister used to make me listen to NKOTB a lot...
Quite liked this. Can imagine a cross-US road trip with this as the soundtrack.
You can hear how this influenced every rock back in the 80s...
Never heard of these... I mean, it's not brilliant. But I probably would have really liked it in the late 90s.
I mean - it's Bowie... His parting gift. Amazing how he seemed to know just exactly how awful this timeline was going to get - and so dropped one more classic album before buggering off back to his home planet.
I really liked this... A lot more than I thought I would based on other people's reviews...
Banger.
One of the best grunge albums of the 90s. Hole were criminally under-rated mostly due to the hate Courtney got.
Meh.
Not really for me. I can kinda get bits of it - and I like the idea of each band member writing a song/ side.. Mostly, I didn't like the vocalist.
One of my favourite albums of all time...
You can hear how this influenced all the punk that came after it... And only 20ish minutes long. More of this sort of thing!
Meh
Surprisingly good...
Not The Hives. Which is a shame.
Fuck the Police...
Not really my thing. Bonus star for being the first hip-hop album I've listened to through this that comes in at under 45 mins thanks to no nonsense "skit" tracks.
Quite possibly the worst thing I've ever listened to. And I've listened to Throbbing Gristle. Further proof that John Lydon is a hack.
I can't stand Dylan - his voice is whiny and I don't particularly like the music. This album was more than bearable though for some reason. Maybe it caught me on an off day. Or maybe it's because this came up directly after PiL - Metal Box which is possibly the single worst thing I've ever listened to...
I'm not sure if I love this, or hate it... It's so out there! I've saved it though and I may listen to more TMV... Or I might never listen to them again!
Meh
Only listened to the 45 minute long "best of" - which was more than enough.... She's a legend, but 3 hours of show tunes is too much for anyone...
Never been a massive D-Jr fan - even though I grew up through the grunge era... Loved this though.
Liked this a lot more than I thought it would!
This is the kind of album there should be a 0 star rating for... I think I'd rather listen to PiL... (I wouldn't)
I can kinda hear how they might have influenced the people who influenced the people who influenced the people who influenced the people who influenced the people who influenced the people who influenced the people who influenced the people who influenced the people who influenced maybe some of the lesser known punk bands... But mostly this was just slightly louder 60s pop stuff...
Fuck me the last load of albums I've had on this have been awful... Glad I've already sunk 4 years into it otherwise I'd have given up... ... Anyway, turns out I hate Devo.
