Figure 8
Elliott Smith
Bland, uninteresting, boring, nothing special, totally forgettable. If the guy had not killed himself, who knows if this album would have entered the 1001 Albums... list.

Dusty In Memphis
Dusty Springfield
OK, chill-out album to play in the background while you're doing whatever. The only song that stands out is Son Of A Preacher Man. I liked the music, the arrangements are great, whole symphonies are playing behind her voice. But overall this is just an average album, nothing special.

Californication
Red Hot Chili Peppers
The greatest of albums! Probably one of the most important in my life and certainly the biggest culprit why I started listening to rock. It came out when I was finishing elementary school and enrolling in high school, so all these songs (yes, even the B-side) are very familiar to me, I knew all the lyrics by heart. I can't even count how many times I've listened to some of the songs: Otherside, Scar Tissue, Californication, Road Trippin', Around the World, Parallel Universe, Emit Remmus... And here I am now - the first riffs of Californication give me goosebumps! The only thing that annoyed me then, and still annoys me now, are Anthony's rap sections. By the way, this is the album with which RHCP change their sound from more funk-oriented to more melodic rock and that brings them the greatest commercial success in their career, although I still think that Under the Bridge is their most famous work. A beautiful beginning, a beautiful end to the album! An incredibly well-rounded album that is rarely found. The title track is one of the songs with the most ingenious lyrics I have ever heard in my life. One interesting thing that I remember commenting on a lot and that was mind blowing at the time - read the title of the song Emit Remmus upside down. :D Now listen to it again - all the guitar parts are recorded upside down. ;) I have much, much, much more to write about Californication, because it is an album that not only marked their career, but also marked a period of my life from which I have many memories. Masterpiece! If only ten out of five were possible, that would be too little!

Synchronicity
The Police
One huge hit "Every Breath You Take", one or two other good songs and the rest just gravitates to the side. Plus, what the fuck is wrong with "Mother"??? Who wrote and sang that song and how does it fit in with the rest of the album, I don't know how to find the smallest common denominator of things.
By the way, I read about this album that when it came out, it broke all records for the number of weeks at the top of the charts. In Canada, Adele passed it with 21 almost 30 years later, but in terms of the number of consecutive weeks at the top, Synchronicity still held the record with 24 weeks in a row at number one. In the UK it was at number one for 2 weeks, in the US for 17 consecutive weeks at number one on the Billboard 200, where Michael Jackson's Thriller was previously. Honestly, either I'm not a big fan of Sting, or this is out of date, but I haven't heard anything that would justify these numbers.
Oh, and let's not forget - Tea In the Sahara is definitely a precursor to Desert Rose. Before I read the title of the song, only from the sound I said to myself - here's Sting's inspiration for Desert Rose!

Let's Stay Together
Al Green
I listened it on my way home from work and it made my evening. Every single song chases away all the negative energy around you and relaxes you to the point that you think you weren't even at work. :D
But from a musical perspective, although the title song which was also his trademark in his career, stands out from the rest, a few hours later I had nothing left in my ear, I totally forgot both the sound and the songs, and I believe that in a short time I won't even remember that I listened to this. Totally forgettable.

That's The Way Of The World
Earth, Wind & Fire
This wasn't so much soul as some funk/Rn'B combination and I liked it more than Al Green, but still not enough for a 4. The first half of the album - fresher, more playful and funkier. The second half, and especially the last 2 songs pushed it more towards soul, and even with elements of jazz, I would say. But only 8 songs and 38 minutes, easy to listen to, feel good again... And again 3/5

Rubber Soul
Beatles
"I once had a girl,
or should I say -
she once had me..."
Classic Beatles! There's no studio experimentation here like in Revolver, no 30 songs, half of which are fillers like in the White Album... Everything is exactly their style, the way I know them. And the way I love them. Plus here's one of my favorites, Norwegian Wood, and so on... This morning as I walked along the wet asphalt and as the notes and lyrics flowed, I couldn't help but feel like Toru Watanabe on the streets of Tokyo. And I felt the desire to read Murakami again, for the third time!
Fantastic album! 5/5

Rock 'N Soul

Good, strong, sexy music. Every song looks like a foreplay song. And every single one is too-too-too strong! This is how soul should look like, not like that whiny Marvin Gaye who gave me hemorrhoids yesterday. I will definitely listen to this again!

It's Blitz!
Yeah Yeah Yeahs
This is from "my time", from the time I was in uni, and yet this is the first time I've heard of this band. However I know the first 2 songs - Zero and Heads Will Roll, from radio stations, from television, who knows from where, I just didn't pay attention to whose they were.
I really liked this album! There are no flops, from beginning to end! Very good music, very good vocals (I said it takes for me a lot to find a female rock vocalist who I'll like, but this is definitely what I'm looking for - Karen is excellent), the lyrics are beautiful... This was a real treat. Here, as I write this review, it's playing in the background for the second time and I really like it a lot. There are songs from this that are already on Spotify playlists and that I will continue to listen to: not only Zero and Heads Will Roll which are definitely dance bangers, but also Dull Life, and especially the phenomenal Runaway... And I will definitely see what else Yeah Yeah Yeahs have to offer.
Strong, solid 4/5!
P.S. Oh, and I almost forgot - the cover of this album is one of the best I've ever seen!
