Interesting stylistically. Mixed in quality.
EBYT
Enjoyed this.
Was aight!
I dont know, it was fine. I wont listen to it again, but I enjoyed the hour 2.7/5 so I'll go 3/5
It’s pretty good, if you can get past Sting’s voice.
Victim of poor quality control and letting the untalented song writing members of the group contribute. There is a LOT of filler - both the Copeland and Summers tracks are B side material at best, and there worrying hints of the faux jazz wankage that Sting strayed into as a solo artist. Points also deducted for suspect and vaguely repellent lyrics - Every Breath You Take is every stalker's theme tune. Bit of a shame really, because when Sting is on form he can definitely knock a tune out. When this is good, it's very good. "Hey Mr. Dinosaur/You really couldn't ask for more/You were God's favourite creature/But you didn't have a future." How prescient.
With this album they decided to move themselves along. The singles are strong the other a mixture, many solid a couple naff.
Eh, it's The Police. Never mind having them on but never rocks my world either. Every Breath You Take, King of Pain, Wrapped Around Your Finger are all good, though.
Good, quite Talking Heads-ish. Some enjoyable tracks but not really my scene
not my fav by them
Not enough great songs for me to give it a higher score
As a teenager the Police passed me by. I like a lot of the singles by the screaming girls put me off with their adoration of 3 handsome blonde guys. This it their break up (and 5th) album. Its interesting. Sting can be a twat but he knows a tune (though lyrics can be banal) Love the drummer. I find it a bit lightweight. I have no idea what "Mother's is in the middle. 3
This was the first full album I’ve listened to by The Police. It was very avant-garde and I loved how they borrowed sounds from a wide variety of cultures and genres. The album seemed to mellow out over its runtime and seems more consistent in the second half. I really enjoyed Stewart Copeland’s drumming. On the surface it seems very simple but there’s so many little things he throws in that is really cool. Murder by Numbers was my favorite song of his. I’m really curious as to what inspired Sting’s lyrics…from 3 story tall brontosauruses to the saftey of Miss Gradenko. All in all, it was a good album. Not necessarily something I’d go out of my way to listen to again but I can see the appeal.
They are way more eclectic than I gave them credit for, but there was plenty to sleep by.
Some tracks are good, but overall it's nothing special to me
naaah
Don't much care for a lot of the songs on the album, but Synchronocity I and II are bangers, through and through, and make the album deserve it's place.
bija ok, rakstiju stipendijas pieteikumu, nevareju baigi nodoties, bet nav ari isti man lidz galam.
Second half of the album, absolute creamer phwoarrrrr
ok
has the stalker song and is pretty consistent throughout 3.5
Sometimes you need the right weather to fully appreciate an album. So with the sweltering heat today, I really dug the tropical feel of some of the tracks. There's a few interesting instrumental sounds, it's well produced, has plenty of catchy melodies (with Stings usual excellent vocals) and the lyrics are perfectly fine for a pop/rock album. Side one is good apart from the odd sounding 'Mother', which felt out of place and sounds more like a B-side. Side two is a bit too soporific though and the songs tend to drag. So overall, good but not great.
Definitely an album of two halves for me. First half, the Synchronicity bookends were good, but Mother seemed to derail it for me, WTF?! Second half, much more familiar - when I was starting out playing bass, I'd learn a bunch of Sting's riffs, they were always simplistic but effective.
Pretty good!
un peu désappointant
De sound van Sting. Ik vind dit album eigenlijk tegen vallen. Volgens mij heeft The Police leukere nummers op andere albums. ***
The Police is good but overrated.
Was a great album when it was released but holy crap - I can't listen to "Every Breath..." or "King of Pain" without feeling immediately annoyed. Didn't add, because frankly I'm tired of it.
The less common case where the second half of the album far exceeds the first half. Every Breath You Take has OVER 1 BILLION listens on Spotify!!! I feel like I keep regressing to the mean--this doesn't have enough in the first half to make me call this a 4-star album, but the second half is clearly timeless. 3.5 stars. Rounding down because I hate this system lol.
Being an "Every Breath You Take" specialist when the subject is The Police, I must say that this album impresses me with its variety of songs and styles, keeping the same 80's vibe that is pretty recognizable. It's far from perfect, but it is a lovely album and a good mood to start Monday.
I'll admit, I went into this sure that I'd dislike it. I didn't love it, far from it, but it was more complex and varied than I'd thought a Police album could be.
It's tha sound of da police. Sting makes me feel like a virgin gay guy ready to take a veiny purple dong up me bum bum for the first time. Get your fuckin' pipe right you there you tart.
un peu cringe mais ok Prefs: Synchronicity I, Mother, Miss Gradenko, Synchronicity II, Every Breath You Take, King of Pain, Tea In The Sahara Moins pref: Murder by Numbers
When I got to the songs that made the greatest hits, it was obvious they were actually their best songs.
Not as much fun as I expected - but I was in a bit of an anti-Sting mood when I listened.
I was expecting the worst here, but their annoying hits were mostly absent. It was actually fairly cool. Guess I'll have to endure the album with Roxanne on it some other time. 3/5.
I really rate The Police but I didn’t love every track. Some were excellent, some so so. All in all a high 3*
Very ska. Sting is hard to understand sometimes. Standouts: Synchronicity II Every breathe you take Murder by numbers
Man, the 80s really were a bad time for music. As much as I wanted to like this album, "Synchronicity" is plagued by all the worst diseases of 80s pop. Metronomic drum lines, painfully primitive synths, and saxophone solos that pop up like mushrooms wherever the mix gets dense. Seriously, what's with all the saxophones in 80s pop?! The first half of the album is an odd, muddy, mishmash of pop music tropes and mediocre songwriting. Which is why "Every Breath You Take" is such a shock when you finally get there. It is distinctly unlike everything proceeding it. The tempo slows, the production takes a big step forward, and Sting's vocal performance is suddenly deeply emotional. Is it creepy AF? Yeah, it really is. But it's also just good. Especially in the context of the rest of the album. Also, no saxophones. Win. The following track, "King of Pain" is also pretty decent. But, sadly, those two songs are the only standouts. The Police immediately step back into the pattern they established by the first half of the album with "Wrapped Around Your Finger" and it's a quick slide downhill from there to the end of the album. The Police were arguably the biggest band in the world when this album came out and, by all measures, "Synchronicity" was a massive success. But, by the time the pseudo-jazz car crash that is "Murder By Numbers" wraps up, it's painfully clear to a modern listener that the 80s were just the worst for music.
Disappointed. It's a solid album but from one of the most well known bands of all time, it is remarkably okay, and just okay.
Kann man gut hören. Zwischen 3 und 4.
I’m not a Police fan, but Synchronicity 2 is a really good song.
3.5
Reminded me of my childhood
Generally not a huge fan of the Police, but this album had a couple great tracks I had never heard. Certainly don't need to hear "Every Breath You Take" ever again.
Rollo. Le doy 3 porque tiene Every Breath You Take.
I thought this one would blow me away. Sadly, only one or two songs besides Every Breath You Take would be worth listening to again. Not really a fan of Sting's voice, it can be a bit grating. I don't know, I guess I at least understand the appeal of this record, there are some good songs and melodies, but as a whole, it's just fine.
New wave, post punk rock, 80’er, Sting, Every Breath You Take
Found it just ok. Very boring in parts.
Some classic Police songs. Some of the deeper cuts aren’t my favorite but the hits are great!
I like lots of Police songs, but this album is not my favorite. It seems like they're going for a kind of Residents vibe with some of these tunes. Some bands pull off that type of theatrical weirdness well, but I don't like how it's done on Synchronicity. The hit singles are decent: Synchronicity II is a banger, and Every Breath You Take has a great guitar hook, despite being the most famous stalker anthem of all time.
I like The Police, but really just their first couple of albums. By this point, it’s clear that they were chasing trends instead of following them. But this is also their biggest album by a wide margin, so *shrug emoji* There are good songs on here, but the best one is easily the bonus track, Murder by Numbers. I never really liked Every Breath You Take, but giving it a couple more listens, I can appreciate the tight production and Sting’s unkempt performance. It’s also leagues better than the ballads that immediately follow it, too. So yeah, it’s better than I recalled, but not the best that they’re capable of. C
Reminded me of My Life in the Bush of Ghosts a little bit. Sting really fancies himself though.
Overall I e see why it is on the list. I did forget how dumb the dinosaur song was though.
Het is nooit helemaal mijn ding geweest, maar klinkt wel goed en Every Breathe You Take is natuurlijk een fantastisch nummer.
Fijn plaatje! En ik kende stiekem behoorlijk wat nummers. Ik kan dit wel waarderen.
Not up there with the first 3 albums, but still refreshing and powerful
That was a trip. The songs ranged from enjoyable, to weird, to… about dinosaurs? They do have some entertaining lyrics at least.
Hmm. I don't have a lot to say about this one. It was okay, I guess. There was nothing that stood out to me and nothing that really made me angry.
3.7
By '83 the Police were in my rear view mirror, and songs like "Every step you take" and "Wrapped around your finger" provided the encouragement I needed to keep my foot on the gas. I like the title track, especially part 2 (with Andy Summers' guitar more upfront). Some of the others I find okay, and the last 2 songs are filler. On early Police LPs I liked the interplay between of guitar and bass but there's not much of that here. Andy Summer's vocals on "Mother" are brutal and the rhythm is different. It sounds like mid-eighties King Crimson with David Thomas (Pere Ubu) on vocals.
Sting once said, there's nothing wrong with Pop music because there's Good Pop and there's Bad Pop, I would consider this to be Good Pop. Everyone seems to talk about King of Pain (with over 1m listens on Spotify!) but I think the best song on this album is Wrapped around your finger, with its somewhat atmospheric/ pseudo-dub sound which builds to an emotional crescendo several times in the song. Also kudos to them for experimenting with a bit of jazz in Murder by Numbers, but it foreshadows Sting's soft rock sound that he would employ ad nauseum a few years later. I'm not sure why they stuck Mother in there though, its just experimental filler.
I kind of like this and kind of don't... Some classics, though.
Bit hit or miss. "Mother" is really strange. Sound of album is a bit dated
p good. mother is the only song that got me engaged
Musically excellent - side B more than Side A (albeit a little colonially culture appropriating) - classics such as “King of Pain”, “Wrapped Around Your Finger”, and “Every Breathe You Take” but lyrically - oh my. Maybe it’s just me but Sting sound like he is reciting an intel manifesto - the stalker in Every Breathe… The “Miss Gradenko” and “Tea in the Sahara” fantasies, the Freudian “Mother” and finally the Serial Killer in “Murder by Numbers”. It just gets uncomfortable to listen to with that perspective in mind - shame as otherwise the musicianship is wonderful and the hooks eerily beautiful.
A tale of two sides. Side A and Side B. Side A of this album is probably the weakest The Police have released in their career. Synchronicity I and II are both nicely rocking songs and save this side a bit. Especially II. The songs "Mother" and "Miss Gradenko" take away at least one star from the album. So incredibly bad. Then comes part B, starting with the overplayed "Every Breath You Take," followed by everything The Police became admired for in "The King Of Pain." "Wrapped Around Your Finger" and "Tea In The Sahara" belong to the best that the Police have ever done and the jazzy "Murder By Numbers," which was, iirc, a b side to Every Breath finished this side strong. 2* for the first half of the album, 5* to the second half.
2.7. Bit disappointing overall. Every breath you take is so far ahead of the rest of the album it's crazy
Some enjoyable tracks here, but also some others I don’t really care for.
The phone yelling song.... Why?
Would be 4 stars if not for the rant about his mother on the phone.
Boarder line 2 until a few trackers came through in the end
I know a lot of people love this album... the good news for them is that they will not have to fight me for it in the record store. There are a few songs on here that I think are ok/good but overall, I've just never been super into The Police's sound. Glad I gave it a listen since it is a well-liked album but probably not one that I'd return to.
Final studio album by the Police. Can you detect the fact they almost were not speaking? Is the increased use of sequencers to give a backbone to songs that prevent them having the play together? A great record of a band falling apart? They are clearly tight enough as a unit to sound like they are playing the same thing even when not speaking. I think this is about the only Police album that I don't own, so there was some fresh material here, especially on side 1. (Interesting that all the singles are back loaded on the album, which is a weird way of tracklisting, especially such a commercially ambitious band). The singles are really strong, which makes side 2 a very compelling listen. Side 1 feels a bit like experiments and filler. The production is a bit cleaner and focused than their previous studio album, and when they are rocking, has a lot of punch. Highlights for me are Synchronicity II, which is a good example of their power and purpose.
Not my favorite police album, could never hear EBYT again and be fine with it. Can understand why it was popular, very original at the time. “mother” one of the shittiest songs to ever be recorded. King of pain is sublime.
This album was probably the peak of their output as a band. The album seemed to stray a little bit from their reggae light sound to more of a pop sound. The album has some good singles but the album itself seems a bit uneven. There seems to be Sting songs and then songs by the other two members, the Sting songs being the best. Favorite Songs: I'll Be Watching You, King of Pain. 3 out of Stars
A couple of tracks on Synchronicity were really compelling, especially the sonic continuity of the second half of the record. Just wanted to point out that "Mother" might be one of the most unappealing tracks I've suffered through since the Jamiroquai record. The album starts off great with Synchronicity I, immediately falls off a cliff and when all hope is lost, recovers on Side B. Wild stuff. Fav Tracks: Synchronicity I/II, King of Pain, Every Breath You Take and Murder By Numbers
This album really cemented The Police as a singles band for me. I felt like most of this record was well-heeled, but ultimately kind of boring. Side B really picked things up, though, particularly Synchronicity II > King of Pain. Rating: 2.5/5 Favourite tracks: Synchronicity II, Every Breath You Take, King of Pain.
chill
Just remove the experimental rock-ish side 1 and this album could be one of the of the most decent and slick new-wave EP's of the '80s.
shiny stadium pop, let down occasionally by Big Words Crammed Into Lyrics Just To Show Off (Mephistopheles) and Clunky/Smartass Rhymes (College / Knowledge)
Shite first half, and great second one you get to evry breathe. 3
Finally, an 80s album that doesn’t overstay its welcome or choose the worst synth presets possible. Some tight, punchy compositions on this one using great interplay between guitars and synths. Sting’s almost improvisational bass and crooning vox on top yield an overall solid listening experience.
3/5 good but not enough
Mother was one of the worst songs I’ve ever heard but everything else was okay
The Apple Music master isn’t great quality unfortunately but good to revisit this. The strength is in the old side b as it starts timidly and only gets good halfway through.
A pretty meddling police album. It has the 80s toned to it and feels as if it’s them trying to be edgy and different. Every breath you take is great even if it’s weird. Mother is pretty rough and everything else is ok. 6.3/10
With the exception of a couple of weird and not so great tracks, this album is for the most part pretty good and nice to listen to.
Great album
First half of the album is pretty forgettable, second half is getting a bit better
It turns out Every Breath You Take isn't the only creepy song they wrote. Is this a cry for help? Best track: Every Breath You Take
I grew up listening to 'The Police - Their Greatest Hits' so I'm well familiar with Every Breath You Take, King of Pain and Wrapped Around Your Finger. These are Good Songs (the first two especially) and put a couple of stars in the bank early doors. But what about the rest of the album? Well, Kent, it's a mixed bag, both in style and quality. Synchronicity I is a good start. Then there's a song about dinosaurs which, it seems, heavily influenced the Dino Dino Jungle soundtrack in Mario Kart. There's some 80s funk stuff, a jazzy number to finish, and 'Mother', which is a real contender for the most mental track the generator has thrown up so far. Andy Summers, you weirdo! Predictable it ain't. But, all in all, not nearly as good as the greatest hits. EDIT: I've listened a couple more times. Now trying to decide if it's actually a work of genius. Well, is it?? 3.5
This was the album that put them into the stratosphere. I didn’t like it as much when it came out although Synchronicity I is one of my favorite songs. It hasn’t held up well… at least for me.
Definitely not the best album from The Police, but really good nonetheless. The biggest hits come from tracks 6-9, and the rest of the songs are good. Saying this is The Police's worst album may be true, but it's just because the rest of their work is unbelievable.
Some good. Some strange
Not a style I enjoy listening to, but not that bad.
Mix of good and bad songs.
Decent album, Every Breathe You Take is the standout track. Some slightly more... out-there tracks as well.
Almost immediately upon hearing this album I recalled that the drummer for The Police did the soundtrack for Spyro the Dragon. This isn't my favorite Police album, stand out tracks for me are O My God, Every Breath You Take, King of Pain, and Wrapped Around Your Finger.
Some pretty catchy sing-along tunes. I won’t cop the lie that the track ‘Mother’ made it onto the album on purpose. Sting was pretty good at digging Timmy O’Toole out of that well.
Some of these were okay. Murder by numbers is an interesting idea. Overall not super blown away
6,5/10 Legal
When Sting ruled the world. One of those asshole ego maniacs that treated "his band" like shit. You want to hate him, but can't argue with the songwriting on this album. The weakest tracks are the ones by the guitarist and drummer so also hard to feel sorry for them if this was their best effort.
A classic album, but I rarely listen to the entire album. Turns out, there is some real weird shit on here. Looking at you, "Mother"
Iets minder poppy
Album is good. I really do love the creepiness of every breath you take. Other than that, many songs blend together.
Not as good as I hoped, despite Every Breath You Take
It's Sting. Some songs are good.
Starts out pretty strong, gives vibes of "Take On Me". Songs are catchy. It's good but not really my cup of tea. Less interested in pop. Highlights: Synchronicity I, Mother, King Of Pain Lowlights: Every Breath You Take, Tea In The Sahara
A 3
It was like being in the 80’s Good for background. Some intense tunes.
I may have heard some other tracks by The Police before, but I only consciously knew Every Breath You Take. On the one hand, the music definitely has more variety than I expected and it's solidly executed. On the other hand, it just isn't very interesting to me.
Every breath you take makes up for the first part of the album but the rest isnt great.
Just alright, but it does have their megahit on it.
A couple of bangers and then not a lot
Doze. A impaciência martela na cabeça. Nunca mais acaba. Nunca nada acaba. MotA: Synchronicity II "With one breath / With one flow / You will know"
What a weird album. They lead with the worst songs, and throw all the bangers in the back. And to top it off, MOTHER is an abomination, and cost them a star. But when it's good it's great.
Some classic pop-rock tunes, nothing that I'd choose to listen to specifically, though.
// Favs: Every Breath You Take Score: Strong 3
Not a bad album. Every breath you take is a classic for sure. Not a huge fan though.
TIL that Sting is a serial killer. Seriously, wtf is “Murder by Numbers” if not a very blunt confession? Maybe your mum keeps ringing you on the telephone to check on whether all these girls you go out with make it back home. The Police have an awesome and unique sound when at their best. There are a few gems on here, but “Mother” was such weird shock it’s gonna bring it from a high-4 all the way down to a 3.
This album is named Synchronicity and there are two songs also named Synchronicity. Which one is the “title track,” I or II? Both? Neither because they aren’t technically the same as the album title? This conundrum should be a clue that someone couldn’t make up their mind about this album. By the way when in doubt, trust the math…Synchronicity II > Synchronicity I for sure. Every Breath You Take is worth a star all by itself. WTF is going on in Mother?!? That is some strange shit. The snare drum is fantastically off beat in King Of Pain. And that bookends this album for me. The offbeat characteristic is great in one case, yet completely perplexing in another. That’s how I feel about Synchronicity.
Not for me at all. Can see why some might like it.
Sounds more experimental than you would assume.
Album krenuo dost dobro, pjesma Mother je sve. Općenito album nije loš, al sam više očekivao.
Fun album, and everyone likes Every Breath You Take. Not as cohesive as I would have liked, but enjoyable nonetheless.
It's not bad, but it's my least favorite album by The Police, so I'm giving it three stars.
Not bad Not great
I have a memory of one of our teachers saying the lyrics of 'every step you take' in a speech about litter dropping -is that something that actually happened or...? Enjoyed the album, glad it wasn't one of the ones where sting puts on a cringey jamaican accent. There was one song I really liked but forgotten what it was called now.
First half quite esoteric, second half full of bangers. Need to listen again to see what all the fuss was about.
An old favourite.
Tracks 6 and 10 are highlights. Interesting concepts for most tracks. Sub-melodic, but electronic drum beats abound. Tracks 2 and 12 worth a listen. Track 4 weirdest.
Didn't hate it.
im expecting to sorta know it.
Blijkbaar ben ik geen fan van de 'New Wave'-versie van The Police...
.
Every Breath you Take King of Pain
This is a real mixture. you really have to tip toe through all the shit to find the gold! Synchronicity II is a banger as well as every breath you take. And then the rest is pretty poor.
Some crackers, good listen, prefer their albums before this.
It's a good album, just not exactly my favorite style of music
Never been crazy about the Police but this was honestly some pretty solid pop. Also a lot of experimentation on this album (not all of it great, but I commend the effort). Synchronicity 2 did have me grooving a little bit. I did think the song "Walking in Your Footsteps was Hilarious," because Sting literally wrote a song about how Brontosaurus walked so humans can run. For that song alone we're going with a 3 here.
Sting is so hit or miss vocally. I wish that there was more consistency, because some stuff really rocks me.
Walking in Your Footsteps and Mother are both pretty horrible, there are some classics, and some meh stuff. Overall probably averages out to a 6
I only remember EBYT
Musically very solid and eclectic (not always in a positive way). Some jarring changes that make it not super cohesive as an album but I really like the songs. More groove than I expected. 3.6
sting is a horny creepy weirdo and damn can you tell. Even putting aside 'mother' which sting didn't write but 'was a big fan of'. || I think the first half of the album sounds like slightly better than average rock, and the second half is clearly sting beginning to leave the police and write pretty good pop music as a solo artist. I can't stomach giving it a 4, but 3 feels too low. Oh well.
FTP 1312 and so on and so forth The album is fine, I guess. I don't find it particularly exciting.
Good overall
Good album, plenty of variety here and showcases what Sting and the boys could do. 6.5/10
It was fine, didn't particularly grab me.
It's The Police so it's bound to be good in some capacity.
-Miss Gradenko is solid -Synchronicity 2 reminds me of guitar hero -Every Breath you Take is always good (pure nostalgia). -King of Pain is also pretty good -Wrapped around your finger= ZZZZZZZ
80s jams
6/10 Some good songs, sometimes a little overblown for my taste. Can't knock sting's musicianship though
Yeah, not bad.
Pretty good 80s sounds.. The Police are fine, I don’t think they’re necessary listening but certainly not offensive
Well the album is okay up until Mother, which is an absolute chore of a song. The album picks up again with Synchronicity II and Every Breath You Take. Wrapped around your finger is another great some. Why did they bury all of the best songs on this album in the latter half? I really think that I might actually like this album if the songs were rearranged a bit and Mother was dropped entirely. 3/5
My overall take with this album is that it is pretty enjoyable, with the exception of a few songs that are a little weird lyrically (Mother, Every Breath You Take, I haven’t liked EBYT like... ever). I really liked King of Pain and Miss Gradenko. Murder By Numbers was pretty good too (a ‘messed up’ song that I enjoyed). I’d give it a 3.5 but I’m going to round down this time.
Some fantastic songs, and some annoying stuff.
Jednim uchem dovnitř, druhym ven
Okay
1 hitt ja ülejäänud lood suht samasugused?
it was ok
Not a band with any real originality. Cod reggae with silly lyrics. Sting always more palatable as a singles act
had to skip first track - was really annoying me. I thought I liked the Police - but now I'm questioning that! persevered with second track, couldn't listen to next two. Liked the second half of the album so very mixed feelings overall.
Mostly very acceptable background music. I put it on an it played in the background and mostly my attention wandered. Non-offensive Mother is very interesting, I liked the more experimental track. Synchronicity II is stand-out.
I just realised that P Diddy kinda ruined 'Every Breath You Take' for me. Fine album, but got to take points away for making me think of that guy.
The only songs of interest are those not written by Sting. Mother is like a slap around the face, but not in a good way. Miss Gradenko is really good, apart from the "Nobody But Us" bit which sounds awful. Every Breath You Take is no less creepy for the repeated listens, and the rest is just boring standard 80s pop.
Nah... Whiny, boring, annoying.
fave song: King of Pain (the beginning of this album was rough. the second half was much better)
Bang average.
Not a fan. I think it has aged badly.
Discordant and not quite my vibe at times, but some bangers in there.
#146/1001 🇬🇧 I expected much more from this. The first half is pretty dull until you reach the god-awful track Mother. What on earth were they thinking. Side 2 picks up the pace and there are decent tracks - all 3 singles i think, which prevent this from getting 1 star. Best Tracks: Every Breath You Take, King of Pain, Wrapped Around Your Finger.
I like the Police, but even their best albums give me mixed feelings. This is not one of their best albums. It's baffling to me how this one has become their critically acclaimed magnum opus. There is *so much* filler here, including basically the entire A side. And the hits on the B side are fine but very slick and commercial sounding. Also, these guys have serious masculinity issues and it shows on basically every track.
I'll be honest when I say that I didn't get much from this album. The big hit from the album isn't one that I particularly like, and the rest of the album didn't excite me. Maybe I just don't like the style of The Police; I guess we'll have to wait and see. Favourites: Synchronicity II Murder By Numbers
Not to sound to Allan Partridge but my favourite Police album is the greatest Hits. I'm normal a bit of a snob about this kind of thing, but every time I put any of their records on I'm skipping every other track to get past the experimental dub and new age stuff (which I love when other people do it). This album obviously has some contenders for the the top 100 singles of all time list, but for me sounds like a band with too many leaders with too many ideas, which frustrated me.
Sadly it seems I am not a The Police fan.
It had its moments, but this was not my favorite. The first half in particular wasn’t a great listen for me. 2.5/5
Far from being as good as I expected. Every Breath you Take is the exception of the album.
This album is pretty dull and uninteresting to me. While listening I mostly felt bored. It’s not the worst album ever, and there are some bright points here and there, but overall it just didn’t do much for me. I know this is considered one of their biggest and most successful records, but a lot of it feels flat and repetitive. Even the big hits like “Every Breath You Take” and “Wrapped Around Your Finger” sound cold and calculated rather than exciting. The rest of the songs mostly blend together into this polished, mid-tempo new wave sound that never really catches fire. Sting’s songwriting feels overly serious and a bit pretentious here, and the whole thing lacks the energy and personality of their earlier albums. It’s very 80s in production, which isn’t always a good thing. There are a couple of decent moments, but they’re not enough to save the record. Come on… this is massively overrated in my opinion. It’s fine as background music at best, but nothing I’d actively choose to listen to again.
This is dreck
Nikdy som nepochopil, prečo boli Police takí úspešní. Stiga sólovo mám radšej.
Some decent tunes, some not so decent. (2.5)
Listened to while drawing in Central Park, nothing stood out
My second Police album here. This was ok. Musicianship obviously flawless. Most of it passed me by though, aside from the singles it was pretty bland.
Very meh throughout. The people they were when they first set out would've hated this
Started out good but got pretty forgettable by the end
Don’t make me listen to the police ever again
some good, some less good. some of the songs seemed too high pitched for Sting's voice. I'd give it a 3 but I went to a Police concert once and Sting was really arrogant so 2
Fuck the Police.
Eigenlijk niet zo'n fan. Goed voor 1 liedje
Inget stort fan alls faktiskt.
That was pretty forgettable to be honest. Outside of the singles (besides EBYT which I still find creepy af) there just wasn't much here hooking me in. Mother was an especially weird track that I don't understand how they ever thought that sounded good. 2/5
ah yes this album featuring popular songs like ... the stalker song Every breath you take
I found this to be much poorer than the ratings suggested. Side one is rubbish, side two is good, runs to be under average for me.
It's not as bad as expected, but I will probably never listen to this again.
I should've known that The Police had a cocaine phase. Disjointed even with two of their best songs
Best track last, but not enough to save this album Regatta > Synchronicity
2.5 - I've never cared for The Police but gave this a fair shake. There's some good musicianship but I just don't like the whiff of 80s white guy reggae and I find Sting to be pretty annoyingly /r/im14andthisisdeep. I'm still laughing at the lyric "hey mister brontosaurus / do you have a lesson for us?"
Not my fave despite the couple of hits
stuck between 2 and 3. two good tracks (the title tracks, every breath you take is very overplayed but i have to admit its pretty good. mother is an absolute failure in experimentation that really shows why the rest of this album is so boring; if That is what happens when they try to branch out i guess i’m glad theres so few risks in this thing.
MASTERPIECE
It was decent. "Every Breath You Take" is a classic, but holy shit "Mother" is the most god awful dogshit I’ve ever heard, and simply by it’s presence on the album, it goes down to a 2-star rating.
Decent album & quite short 3/5
Where to begin? A song about the dinosaurs? And what was "Mother"? The only reasons this wasn't a 1 was because of "Every breath you take" and "King of pain".
This was fine, but not my favorite by any means.
2.5
Side 2 is a meh album by a band that was once better than that. Side 1 is much worse than I remembered.
Does Synchronicity I sound like Yes or what? The whole thing is pretty proggy, as well as being a load of pretentious twaddle. I suppose they used to be an interesting band but the their decline began when Sting name-checked (and mispronounced) Nabokov back in 1980.
Surprisingly (?) so so. The big big single here is one I already was tired of before it was ruined by association, but I do love the sequel to the title track. So two and a half maybe?
What a snooze.
it's cool, not my fave really. not my favorite version of The Police by any stretch.
Just really dull. Listened to it only an hour ago and can only remember every breath you take.
I guess I just dont really care for the police. They just always come at me with the most sterile and smoothed over music. But its not just pop. Its rock music with zero edge. Thats my main issue. Sure every breath you take is impossibly catchy. But what else is there? One song isnt a great or even good record. One song does give it a bump but not that much. Its just kind a lame thing all around
Couple good songs, the rest...eh
It's decent. It's pretty boring overall. Favourite Track(s): Every Breath You Take Least Favourite Track(s): Mother
yeah nah
didn't like the guy's voice, and Mother hurt my head and I couldn't finish it.
1 classic single and a bunch of sexually frustrated nursery rhymes. I appreciate Stuart Copeland but this album feels like he's doing his summer job.
Didn't like much tho has some tasty bass 2 stars
Sting is murdering me with his numbers, about as much fun as hanging out with the actual police. Please no more Police!!
The hits I recognized prior are all obviously great but none of the songs that were new to me were all that interesting. Additionally, Mother is arguably the worst song ever created
Not my favorite. Mother was a terrible song.
It was ok but not totally for me
Was OK, especially first half, I feel it somewhat tailed off though, even though the bigger hitters were towards the end
Tää on aika kaksijakoinen levy. Toisaalta mukana on Policen kaikkien aikojen paras biisi King of Pain (jumalauta kuunnelkaa sitä beissiä siinä ekan kertsin jälkeen kun Sting alkaa kunnolla irrottelemaan!), mutta sitten mukana on myös lähestulkoon sietämätöntä paskaa kuten esimerkiksi Mother. Ja toki myös yksi historian väärinymmärretyimpiä veisuja Born In the USA:n ohella, eli Every Breath You Take. Stingin ääni on vähän kaksipiippuinen juttu. Valitettavasti kakkonen.
bit of a shit sandwich to be honest
2 songs on this I would listen to again. Disappointing.
Couple great songs and the rest was absolute trash.
Eh. Just not for me. 2/5
一般
Meh, some classics on here but this just doesn’t offer enough to hook me. Mother and Miss Gradenko were awful and the rest is just bland and have heard way too many times on classic rock radio.
2.5
Some songs on here I really enjoy, some were okay, and some were absolutely awful. Classic police album set up. Enjoyable and terrible at the same time.
Tripe! The middle section between Synchronicity II - Wrapped Around Your Finger saved it from a 1 star probably.
80s wank
Toss
In a nutshell: out of sync. The Police really should have stopped at Regatta de Blanc and broke up. Yes, Every Breath You Take was popular but you can tell that everyone wanted to have songs on the album. It pulled in different directions for me. Overall: 3/10
The hits were the hits and the rest was terrible. I found myself really disliking Sting's voice. The only saving grace was Stewart Copeland. This was stuff I grew up with and I guess I was just too young when this came out to know what good music is?
Big meh from me. I understand this type of rock and its place but it does nothing for me and it’s not even a new perspective tha I haven’t heard before mother is truly some Eminem ahh stuff. Miss gradenko is such a vibe and it’s a little reggae and I want more of this it’s the best by far
4/10 Sting has always come across as one of those unbearably self-important people who holds himself in such high regard that he deems every opinion he has as not only correct, but also necessary for the world to hear. He’s the English Bono. Poor Stuart Copeland and Andy Summers. He’s a pretty decent bass player though, and the main strength of this album lies with the interplay between Copeland’s beats and Sting’s bass. Unfortunately, what sits above it is fairly flouncy soft rock that only occasionally bothers to find something worthy of note to tell us. That being said, I can understand why it’s popular. It offers a fairly decent groove while not ever (Mother excluded) rocking the boat or challenging the listener in any significant way. This is perfect wallpaper music, but for me, there’s just not enough of musical interest or even enough of a quality hook present in much of the work outside of Every Breath You Take, which tonally doesn’t even actually sit that comfortably among the rest of the track selection. I mean, it’s rarely terrible, but it’s also rarely exciting or invigorating in any way. It’s dynamically very flat and it feels like nearly every production and compositional choice that’s made is the safe option. Give me a bit of drive, attitude or intensity and this might start to work its way into my brain, but it’s all just a bit meh. Sting is a well known exponent of tantric sex, and after listening to this, it doesn’t surprise me at all. His love making must be a lot like his song writing: Things kind of meander along well enough to keep you engaged, but have nothing particularly exciting to tip you over the edge into really enjoying it. It’s probably a fine needle to thread in the bedroom, so fair enough I guess. Synchronicity I - Oooh, we’re teased with an almost Kraftwerky sequence to kick us off. What follows is not that though. It’s ok, has good pace and a driving intent that’s pretty satisfying. Although it does make some changes to the chord structure in places, it is pretty dynamically and emotionally level, not offering much range beyond its insistent drive, which is a bit of a shame. Walking In Your Footsteps - The rhythm here is really subtle and nice, but the flutes and vocals are so soft that it all just feels limp. Sting’s voice sounds crap when he strains to hit the highs, and what the hell are these lyrics? I quite like the guitar based soundscaping work, but other than that, this is a pretty weak and uninspiring effort, and again, there’s so little variation in dynamic that it gets even more dull as the track rolls by. O My God - We get a bit of dynamic range here, finally. The bass tone is quite nice and it’s got a decent groove to it. The elements are pretty much all there, but it just doesn’t manage to hook it all together in a completely satisfying way. The drumming is great, and it’s kind of funky but I can’t help but feel like it’s just a bit of a lightweight appropriation of much better music made by other people. Mother - This is quite wacky, but I kind of like it. It reminds me a little of half way between Mr Bungle and Oingo Boingo. I can appreciate this kind of slightly dark, discordant experimental work being put on an album by a band as mainstream as The Police, so fair play to them. The instrumental work is pretty good and it certainly conjures up quite a specific vibe. Miss Gradenko - This is another where many of the ingredients appear to be here, and the groove is pretty good, but it just doesn’t quite connect. It’s so dynamically static, despite having that decent toe-tapping pulse to keep it ticking along. I don’t mind the vocal hooks here actually, but again, there’s just not a lot to it. It’s just slightly funky white bread background music. Synchronicity II - There’s a bit more to this, with some nice riffs and a bit of dynamic and tonal variation. There’s a bit of drive and atmosphere underpinning it all, and it’s got an almost Genesis edge to it. Over the top it is a little bit lightweight, but there at least appears to be a bit of an effort to lift it above the more bland productions of the earlier tracks. Every Breath You Take - This is obviously a classic. It’s so simple, but just goes to show how much a good hook can elevate an average song into on that captures the attention of the world. The vocal hook of the verses is great, but it’s the guitar that makes it, it’s staccato yet fluid. The chorus is actually a bit shit, but it’s only used a couple of times, so it doesn’t really matter. Oddly, this track doesn’t really fit in with the style of the rest of the album at all. It doesn’t have the groove or production aesthetic, but it wins out just by virtue of how catchy it is. King Of Pain - This takes quite a long time to get going and it’s a bit meandering for the first minute because of it. I like the way the beat comes in off-beat and it takes your brain a moment to catch up, and the groove to the beat is pretty good. The chorus is quite mediocre pop-rock though, and doesn’t pay off the more delicate construction of the verses. It’s not bad, it’s just not that interesting either. Wrapped Around Your Finger - This is another that’s just fairly bland soft rock. I think the rhythm section does a decent enough job, but there’s just nothing really to grab hold of. This is just more of the beige wallpaper rock that lacks much verve or bite to it. They try to lift it up at one point more than three minutes in, but it’s too little, too late. Tea In The Sahara - Do you know, I think I don’t really like Sting’s vocal presentation. It’s like a flouncy non-committal version of Bono. There’s actually some nice work here between Sting’s bass and Copeland’s drums, with a nice bit of off beat interplay, but it’s all sat behind a really vague, wishy-washy melodic and harmonic front. Meh. Murder By Numbers - There’s quite a nice swing to this, but it also has a little bit of punch in the production. The chorus is pretty good and has a decent vocal hook, and some really nice bits of drumming. The verses get a little bit lost in themselves, but as a whole, this isn’t a bad song and is definitely better than the more bland entries on the record.
I just feel this album has not aged very well since I was young. A few hits but not too interesting to me anymore
I don't really think it's worth listening to the whole album for 'Every Breath You Take'.
The egyptians believed the most significant thing you could do in your life is die.
This was ok, nice enough.
Like prog and new wave had a hideously deformed child. The first half of this album might have the most actively unpleasant songs I've listened to so far. The back half is better but marred by lyrics that sound like they were written by a high schooler trying to be deep. Overall I think I'd enjoy this album a lot more if I didn't know English. King of Pain is still a killer tune though.
I don’t like a the Police. They always come across as a try-hard bunch of white boys, and they appear to hate each other nearly as much as I do. This is better than the other shit they’ve produced, though, and Synchronicity II is quite good. And then there’s Mother.
Only one good song.
Side one is too bad to rate this any higher
Sting had already disappeared up his own backside by the time this came out sadly.
This was quite grating and very clearly thought it was more meaningful that it was. I'm looking at you dinosaur song.
No wonder we only hear one song from this album.
Something about this record feels off. I can’t quite put my finger on it, I don’t think I’ll have proper words for it. But it’s like some of those late 2010’s Coldplay records; there’s some fleshed out pop songs (“Wrapped Around Your Finger”, “Every Breath You Take”). But then there’s a flatness to it all, as well as a hint of tone-deafness. The “hey Mr dinosaur” song about living in fear of the bomb? It has a good heart, but is so pedantic that it’s basically dead on arrival. You can’t ask the world of this project, you’d be missing the point to perceive it as any more than a pop, or at least pop-adjacent record. But even with a lowered guard, this is a mixed bag. Strong 2/5, the sounds and genres these guys pull from tend to be more interesting than the way they put those sounds together for Synchronicity.
I was honestly expecting to enjoy this more than I actually did. I mean, Every Breath You Take is basically inescapable if you listen to a station that plays any 80s music. While I don't necessarily love that song, I also don't mind it. King of Pain is a much better song and also one that I've heard on the radio every so often, as well as the other singles. The problem is those songs just don't reflect what the rest of the album sounds like. One of the best examples of this is Mother, which is an absolutely god awful song. I was really tempted to give the album one star, but the singles made it get bumped up to two stars.
Also played this in the car yesterday 15/1/26 - I thought it was boring up to “Tea in the Sahara” and I sang along to it? Had to look it up and see if it featured in a movie….I found it
Much like the actual police this album was very disappointing.
Not crazy about it. What was going on in "Mother"?
Not a classic by any stretch. Whilst i’d generally say the Police always deliver a listenable tune at worst ‘mother’ proves that wrong. Every breath you take is obviously a classic but overall the album is just meh
In a matter of weeks, I have learned that The Police are very much a band that you should own the greatest hits of and nothing else. The first half-ish of this album is woeful (and a special woeful shoutout goes to “Mother”) but once you hit post-Synchronicity II it gets a lot better. “Every Breath You Take”, which I think is lyrically creepy, is still miles ahead of anything else on the album, right from those opening bars. I love “Wrapped Around Your Finger”, which again stands out and is just so recognisable from its opening notes. “King of Pain” was a bit familiar and also strong compared to the overall quality of the album. This is probably a 2.5* album for me, but it’s not strong enough for a 3* - especially when all I could think about was The Police tribute band in The Office “Scrantonicity”.
só tem duas músicas boas
Not a big fan of Sting, and I am feeling mean today
Some of these tracks are just weird, e.g. Mother. Not sure an album can be saved by one great song (to be clear: the great song is obviously Every Breath You Take. Not Mother!).
A funky lil album. Not much to say about it. Every breath you take is a banger. Don’t think it’s my band
Expected better from you, Sting
Weird
I had never listened to this album in full even though I had always wanted to. I thought I would enjoy it much more than I did, but I was honestly let down. Call me basic if you want, Every Breath You Take is a great song and easily the best on the album. The rest of it sounds so different to me that it is hard to believe I did not accidentally change the album. I had no idea it was so reggae(?) oriented. I would rather leave reggae to the artists who can actually make it work because this just is not for me in any way, shape, or form. I am glad I did not listen to this earlier. I would have been even more grateful if I had never listened to it at all. Barely a 2. I usually rate albums as a whole, but this time I had to grade each song individually just to see if it even deserved a 2.
Decent 2,5
Some good, some very average.
Meh
I know that 1 song and I know the Police. Starts kind of lame, dinosaurs, saxophones, 80s. Up there with the worst of the list. Could just be the bad streak making it worse. 2 Heard before? 1 song Owned: No: 39/160 (24%) Will I get? No
Some good songs but didn’t love the album as a whole.
Not my vibe
Ganz nett.
aight i guess
Hard to believe they included Mother in this.
not really all that special outside of the massive smash hit and Mother, which is awesome and all of you are filtered filtered filtered! deserves to be one of the 1001? sure
ehh i like johnny cash all of these songs are just a little simple for me
good nothing crazy
Mid. Would've been a 3 if not for Mother.
didn't really connect with the album unfort
A bit hectic, not for me
this will be my first encounter with the Police/sting beyond the hits... I wonder if that brontosaurus had a lesson for us? well, just hit track 4, "Mother". At least it's different. I do not like this album. I'm not sure I have anything nice to say about it. At least the album gave Puffy sample material? IDK I think I'd rather listen to an album by Scratonicity. I can't tell if "Every Breath You Take" is good, or just nostalgic. I like Alanis's cover of "King Of Pain" better, too.
Could not listen to mother... Wtf
Was heading for a one star but does get a little better in the second half with the hits.
Not my thing.
