2.5 stars

Not bad, but a bit boring.

Really enjoyable

Joni Mitchell again. It still gets a bit annoying over time.

That was disappointingly forgettable.

An average album, one that can be easily put on and forgotten about as it is playing. The album had some nice moments like Court and Spark and help me, but I did not enjoy the moments of Jazz that seemed to run throughout the album. Favourite song: Court and Spark Least favourite: Twisted Album artwork: I like the cover

Lyrics were good. Song structure was weird and I didn't really care for her singing. Maybe I'll try again though don't feel like I was in the right mood for this album.

Lyric-centric music delivered by a wide ranging and subtle, but kind of a-melodic voice accompanied by gentle folksy jazzy band. Nice relaxed feel to it, especially the hippy country stuff, spacious and expansive, slow, easy going tasteful and adult. These are polite words for boring.

fire background album zum vo mine ferie in schwede verzelle… nöd wükli zueglost tho

I mean, it's not offensive is it. I put it on in the house and completely forgot it was going on periodically. Very background music to me

This was the rare combination of both boring and cheesy. Boring music can still be good, and cheesy music can still be fun, but boring AND cheesy is neither good NOR fun. So basically I want those 37 minutes back.

I've just finished the last track (which was the best on the album) and I have instantly forgotten the entire album. Had it been an album of songs like the last track I would have enjoyed it more. It isn't bad, but there is nothing else there that gripped me at all.

Not much to say about this one. I didn't hate it, but I got sure wasn't the biggest fan. Liked how the songs flowed. Just didn't care for the album though.

This album didn't really do anything for me and sort of faded into background noise.

Too jazz-y, too samey, no choruses

Court and Spark is okay. "Help Me" and "Free Man in Paris" are decent songs, but that leaves nine others that aren't. I love Bob Dylan, but even there, if the music weren't doing real work, the lyrics alone wouldn't be enough. Great lyrics can elevate good music. They can't rescue boring music. Mitchell's lyrics are celebrated, and fairly so, but she too often pairs them with tunes that aren't pulling their weight. If she were singing about shopping at a grocery store, the reception would not be the same. If lyrics are 80% of what you have to offer me, I might as well read great poetry. I listen to music because I enjoy the *music* (crazy idea, I know). (My other issue is her phrasing. She seems to write a poem first, with irregular meter, and then force it to fit the music, cramming words in quickly where the syllables don't land naturally. It's not pretty to listen to.) When Joni puts interesting music underneath the words, it works. She's capable of it. She just doesn't do it enough. Two stars.

Light pop with a bit of jazz & country. Reminds a bit of Eva Cassidy but more pop. Nice enough listen

Perfectly fine and nice but didn’t rock my world. Seems mean to give it 2 and too generous to give it 3. I think I’ll stick with 2. It was fairly forgettable

Not my kinda sound

As someone who isn't a fan, this is hard to get into. None of her known songs are here and there is a lot of cheesy backing tracks to her poems.

Pas mal

Had an idea of what she sounded like, and assumed she was overrated. Then I heard Blue and was blown away. This however, reinforces my assumption that her music is aimless and whiny, barely listenable

At times meandering, this is a fairly soft and easy-going album. I could see why people enjoy it, but I can’t really stand her voice unfortunately, else I’d probably rate it higher.

Not terrible but didn’t set my world on fire

Dull, but harmless.

maybe you had to be there? It not bad, just boring?

Very 70s chill. Best Song: Free Man in Paris

This is nice, she has a nice voice, but the album just doesn't do anything for me. 2* Enjoyed: raised on robbery

Kinda crazy how "Blue" is so much better than any of her other albums and I don't even know why that is, since all of her songs follow roughly the same structure - for better or for worse. For worse on this album, since I barely even noticed the song transitions.

Never listened to this album before, I'd only heard "Help Me. Just not a Joni Mitchell fan. Her vocal acrobatics, while interesting, often take me out of the moment. She is a good lyricist and tells stories from some unexpected perspectives. I did like Raised on Robbery, which I hadn't heard before. But I won't be listening to this album again anytime soon. "First he bought a '57 Biscayne, he put it in a ditch"

it’s okay. nothing revolutionary IMHO

Joni Mitchell is best served in small doses. While this album is fantastic, it gets old quick. Her phrasing is interesting but I’m not a big fan.

I really don't like Joni Mitchell...and I love female vocalists.

While a great songwriter, Joni Mitchell is not my thing

Bores me even though she has a great voice.

I didn’t mind her album «Blue», which I got last week. This one, however, I don’t like at all. More annoying than awful, so I’m giving a generous two stars

This isn’t it

It was good, i enjoyed the first half of it, but again it got too Boring, but still great music and vocals, really enjoyed her voice...

Spoken word sung to music. Tolerable but not enjoyable.

Not a bad soundtrack to Merci Boulangerie but her descendants I like much better.

It all just feels a bit directionless, in the melodies especially. Also, I cannot for the life of me hear where this supposed Jazz influence she’s supposed to have is. Maybe I’m thinking of the wrong kind of Jazz, is it supposed to be easy listening stuff rather than Hard Modal Soul Jazz? I found the ascending motif on Just Like This Train really grating. And oh god, I just got to Raised On Robbery. This sounds like a rejected Captain And Tennille song. It’s like someone tried writing a Rock n Roll song but only had a second hand description of what Rock n Roll sounded like. I’m actually kinda baffled. The few songs that are awful are truly awful, and the rest are all kind of boring. Twisted, with it’s actual melody, actually allowed me to listen to Mitchell’s voice. Her lower register is great, breathy, Jazzy and expressive. Her higher register is shrill and just so irritating. Well, I’m glad that’s over. I’m not gonna give it one star, because the majority of it’s sin was boring me. But it’s put me off checking out more Jono Mitchell in the future. Check back when I get to Blue and I’ll see how my opinion on this album has changed

I don't know. Ultimately, I just find her voice regrettable. I think she's a good songwriter, but I just cannot connect with the music at all. I wish I could give it 2.5 stars. I think it's probably a "good" album if you're into this sort of thing, but I just don't like it, so giving it a 3 seems wrong. So just know in spirit it's 2.5.

Yeah, not for me. Not sure if it’s folk or rock or jazz. Any on its own may have been better. Maybe it improves with time.

Well written but wouldn't listen again

Technically solid, but really not my style

Mostly forgettable except Help Me, great opening and her voice sounds great. Can one song make an album?

Joni Mitchell is not for me. I can appreciate the songwriting and lyrics but it all just sounds the same.

Joni Mitchell is...fine...for a song or two

The light jazz/folk combo is a solid "nope" for me. I don't like the Elton John vibe either. I'm starting to the resent all of these albums that sound so mid-70s. They are so stuffy and pretentious. I'm just waiting for punk emerge and put us out of our misery.

Not really my thinf

Not my thing

When this album started, it reminded me a lot of the recent Joan Baez album I had on this list. Come to find out the two had a bit of a rivalry back in the day. From what I've heard from these two, I prefer Joan over Joni. There were some songs on here that probably would be better for me if they weren't so distracting vocally. The phrasing in the lyrics was hard to follow because it was delivered via a rollercoaster of dynamics. A pause in a phrase could happen seemingly mid sentence and other thoughts seemed to blend together without any separation. Also, when I could follow the lyrics, sometimes they were very random. Maybe a couple extra listens are required to get in a little more familiarity and not be trying to keeps up with everything all at once. Favorite track "Help Me" 2/5

Hippy chick Mannnnnn

Never knew she was so jazzy!

Appropriate album today for the release of Taylor Swift’s new album. I don’t know much about either artist, but I can imagine Joni Mitchell having tremendous influence on TS. Anyway, this album did not impress me. I found it boring and her voice average.

Musically pretty good, liked everything except her voice.

Very mid

Boring💔💔💔 I like the other one better, although SOME songs were good

Blue is my Joni Mitchell album and I’ve been disappointed to learn that it’s the only one that really does anything for me. This was ok but I was glad when it was over. It neither offended nor engaged me.

Good, but ultimately pretty boring.

Help Me Free Man In Paris Car On a Hill It’s alright. Kind of forgettable tho. I liked her voice. Nothing really notable to say about it. Just that it wasn’t awful.

I feel like I’m supposed to enjoy this record because it’s Joni Mitchell. I really didn’t. Very same-sounding from track to track. Stream of consciousness lyrics (not in a good way). I’m not saying Alan Rickman’s character in Love Actually was right to have a wandering eye. But if Emma Thompson’s character lived Joni Mitchell I kind of get it.

Joni Mitchell is one that I really don’t get. Her stuff meanders along aimlessly and does nothing for me. And it’s on YouTube and so annoying that I can’t do anything else on my phone at the same time. Accidentally skipped a few tracks and did not feel the need to go back. It was a bit of a relief if I’m honest

Such a prolific song writer! album not on spotify, but i found it on youtube

This album is no available on spott

This album was kind of like punishment for me. I was already cold on Joni Mitchell after listening to Hejira as one of my first albums on this app. She has a wonderful and graceful voice. Her lyrics can be brilliant, but don’t do much for me. Ultimately, I struggle to stay with Joni as she lilts along. Raised on Robbery was a nice injection of energy. It also doesn’t help that she isn’t on Spotify, so listening to this album is peppered with ads.

I tried hard to like the first two Joni Mitchell albums the generator served me. I am about ready to give up and admit I don't have what it takes to be a Joni Mitchell fan. I was pleasantly surprised when I kind of liked the first two tracks on Court and Spark, but then it wanders off. Joni Mitchell reminds me of when my step daughter was little; when she was in a good mood and wanted to sing she just made up a songs on the go. There's ideas here, sure, but they don't feel fully formed, and I am bored and sometimes annoyed but sometimes something pretty or interesting happens. A frustrating listen.

Familiar sounds from Joni! The album was pleasant to listen to but not my favorite

good "poet", cool voice, nice listen. Not a lot of focus on hooks or melodies. voice can get annoying after awhile. "raised on robbery" is fun

Garbaggio Last song attempt at jazz is just poopy. Nothing special about her voice. Maybe stick to songwriting and stay unknown to the masses

Not a fan

I'm sorry...I just do not like her voice even remotely

Less interesting than last one

not interesting

I know Joni Mitchell is supposed to be super important & influential but maybe she was just a bit too before my time. Can't even say I recognize any of these tracks from the years I spent growing up listening to "Oldies" radio (which, back in my day, was strictly 50s-70s). Yeah her voice sounds vaguely familiar, but I don't have any particular attachment to her music. Not bad- she's got a great voice, but not for me.

It‘s okay music, but I don‘t really like her voice, and the music is not really interesting.

I like Joni but this album doesn't land with me.

Musically beautiful, lyrically boring.

Not a bad album, but not really my taste. I can understand why people like it tho

Didnt really listen.

Adorable but not to my tastes. Didn't recognise a single song. Sometimes felt like more like poetry than music. I'm sure I'll never listen to any of these songs again

I can't tell if I liked this or not? On the one hand I can see the influence Joni Mitchell has had on one of my favourite folk artists Joanna Newsom, the poetic lyrics and whimsical singing is all there - but at the same time I found the singing a bit grating and boring. I think I'd need to listen to it some more (but probably not seeing as its only on Youtube - yuck), so in the end I think I'm intrigued but not yet sold on Joni.

2/5. While many people praise Joni for her activism and her singing voice, she just comes across to me like a looney as her last track, Twisted, echos.

3.5/10 Fave- Help me, Car on a hill, Trouble child

Musically, not terrible. A bit more funky and upbeat than I remember her other stuff being. But I still don't love her singing voice. Didn't make it all the way through

Not my thing, but an incredible clear voice.

Joni remains an artist I struggle to enjoy. Didn’t hate this so that counts as a win for her

Not my style, but ok. Didn’t do a full listening.

Synes det er kedeligt. Vokal alt for højt i mikset. Fin instrumentering men siger mig ikke noget

Some very nostalgic classic songs by Joni Mitchell. But my ears have never quite gotten comfortable with her vocalizations.

Nothing much to say. Not my thing, but Joni does have a good voice to her.

Listening to Joni Mitchell is another first for me. I thought I’d recognise some of her songs but nothing jumped out at me, yet I’m left with an overall sense that I’ve heard it before. Probably just the sort of noise I would have heard on my dad’s radio in his Vauxhall Viva. Found it all too boring. Her voice was sweet enough but absolutely no edge to it…even more dull than The Carpenters. The lead guitar was nice in places, but everything was obviously playing accompaniment to Joni’s voice. A 2 star rating as I’d choose this over all of the Gangsta rap rubbish, or the country and western, or the rat pack, or the jazz improv that we’ve had on the list. Perhaps a beige Vauxhall Viva is the perfect analogy for this record. Cheap, boring, reliable and best left in the 1970s.

It was not what I expected. It was an OK album and was jazzy towards the end. Thankfully, it was short. No need to revist.

It really just didn't age well at all.

would prefer this with no vocals

Help Me was my favorite. Pretty good album, a couple songs sounded like songs from the 90's. Some of the ballad-type songs dragged and made the album feel longer.

I am convinced that there is a certain type of person who can only enjoy Joni Mitchell in her entirety. Aspects are respectable. She sings to her own rhythm, so to speak. Some of the acoustic stuff is interesting. But again, her vocals are just too... Feathery? I don't know the right words to convey what I'm trying to say. Her vocals are similar to that of Anne Murray (or vice versa). I can't tolerate the sound of her voice very long. Her lyrics are poetic but don't necessarily resonate with me. Again, I'm still convinced that Joni Mitchell is for a certain type of person. I don't want to give her music more of my time because I know I won't enjoy it.

Thought album was ok. Good song writing mixed with some jazzy vibes. The last song is dope (Twisted)

I like the jazzy feel of the album, but overall it just wasn't for me. I see the appeal, but for me, I thought it was just fine.

I feel bad, but I didnt like this one very much. Maybe I needed to play a little more attention, but I felt the songs kind of melded together, didn't have enough variation of sounds. Also the key she was signing in wasn't for me. After about half the album I found myself skipping around the last of the song just to get an idea of the rest.

Nothing super exciting here. 2/5

The era of vinyl makes it easy to consume these since they're each under 40mins. I know of Joni Mitchell, but never knew what she was famous for, so I'm looking forward to find out her appeal. Speaking of "her", this is the first album which is from a female artist. (Yes it's random, but I'm 10 in, so that's quite a dry spell.) So far I understand the parodies, she does tend to sing like a butterfly fluttering all over the place (adjusting pitch for no real reason or obvious emotion.) While it comes across as very feminine and "floral", it also makes the album sound like one long song.

guess i'm not a big joni mitchell fan

Got half way through the album and my other half says to me, "I heard what you were listening to and you don't normally listen to that then I realised it'll be your album thingy." What my wife has pointed out here is that she knows that this album would likely not be something I would ever choose to listen to. And she is right! Pleasant enough work but nothing that really hooks me in.

Country-ish, easy listening it was alright. 2/5

Not the best Joni Mitchell album. Felt very uneven.

Classic.. Not a fan of the ethereal voice though. Needs more dynamics throughout the album. The last song using her lower register is exactly what i needed throughout.

Can hear where Alanis Morrisette was influenced by Mitchell's lyrics and vocal style but Morrisette could structure a song and write a melody that Mitchell could only dream of.

Not my thing

Not my thing and too difficult to listen to.

Fine background music from a talented artist but doesn't move me, Mostly a bit boring for my liking.

I struggled with this one, I thought I'd like it more based on what I remembered from Blue, the only album I'm vaguely familiar with. I found something about the vocal delivery and the lyrics put me off the most. I'll go back to it to see if it's a grower.

Never really have been a big fan of Joni Mitchell. Her vocals are a bit unpolished and her style is a bit too clunky for my taste. I suppose this is nice and I know she has a lot of fans. But, it's just not for me.

This was the third album by Joni on this list and this is the one I enjoyed the least. It's more jazzy than others I listened to - musically they aren't structured well because the songs lack choruses, therefore it always feels there is no middle or end of the songs and they just go nowhere. The songs are intricate, which I usually like a lot but for some reason I couldn't warm to this album.

Sadly a DNF. I really liked Blue, but this wasn’t for me. I’d say it’s a high 2, but not quite a three. The best of Joni Mitchell weaves her piano and vocals in a way they feel intertwined, but Court and Spark doesn’t do this as well. It has great moments, but doesn’t match up to some of her other works overall.

The main issue I have.... is that I don't like her voice! Find it really quite grating and annoying.

Not my thing, but she's talented.

It wasn’t a bad album, but from my listen while driving, it wasn’t as amazing as I’ve been lead to believe Joni Mitchell should be. It was a mellow listen, but not in a way that grabbed me and made me want to pay attention to what are sure to be brilliant lyrics. I might have my Canadian citizenship revoked by this review, but on a first time spin, I wasn’t thinking I need to listen to more Mitchell anytime soon…though to be fair, I wasn’t hating that I spent almost 40 minutes listening. It is worth the spin, I’ll give it that. Maybe further listens and more in depth time and attention would move it up higher in rankings.

Missing the magic. Sorry.

Not very inspiring tbh

She’s extremely talented but I just don’t like it.

Meh, voice not to my liking. There wasn't anything that stood out for me.

Niet echt mijn ding.

That last song definitely dropped a point

reenactment of bob dylan falling asleep in studio while being shown this album by joni: "zzzzzZzz one sheeEeep zzzZzz two sheep zzzZzzz tangled up in blue sheep zzzzzz" "GEE, dylan man! not cool man! wake up! this is my masterpeice mannnn!" "ZZZzzzwhawha woah alright chill joni! hey its your fault anyway jons, you shouldnt have given me all that warm choccy milkzzZZzzzz" *snores * general bob dylan noises "aw jeez. bob you're just trying to act all cool infront of david geffen man! this is one of the greatest albums of all time man! aw shucks. aw gee." joni mitchell removes herself from the situation to get some air - but on her way slips on some spillage from the warm choccy milk she made earlier "HEEEeeelp meee, I think i'm fallinnnn!!!" splat - joni is a metaphor for the critical and public consensus opinion on this album and bob is a metaphor for mine -

Not really a fan to be honest

- Big time storyteller - Lot of folk and a little bit of jazz - Makes her words fit in each line, even if syllables are off - Easy listening, just not really for me

So boring to listen to not good at all.

I don't like jazzy Joni Mitchell as well as singer-songwriter style, but it is decent. 2.5/5

I found this one pretty boring. I really don't get the excitement over this one, but oh well.

Not my thing at all.

Still boring after all these years. Never got on the Mitchell wavelength.

Nice music somehow, but does not really get to me

Still don’t get her

God I hate Joni Mitchell.

This was interesting... I didn't hate it, the music was good, I wasn't crazy about the song structure. Every song was a wandering thread, often never repeating a refrain. Her melodies seemed random, like uncontrolled jazz. Not for me.

Did not feel like this album had all that much to say

Not on Spotify. I’ll just assume there is a good reason for this and take a stab at a positive rating.

Too much light jazz, too much in the way of wavery vocal stylings. It’s just a bit insipid for me. Maybe it’s a grower? I do have a soft spot for 60s/70s Californian folk. First listen not auspicious though.

sadly mid. joni Mitchell should be a poet

Wasnt for me. Not a fan of the signing.

I feel 60/70s folk is a hit or miss with me, this one is a miss unfortunately. Tho I appreciate the melodies greatly. First Listen?: Y Fav. Tracks: Raised on Robbery Rating: 2/5

Stop trying to make joni Mitchell happen

I can’t even listen it’s not on spotify

Chilled

It's fine, I guess. Too much hippy, too much bad jazz. But I didn't have to skip anything, so that's a bonus. Honestly, I'm kind of surprised at how SUPERLATIVE this album is considered to be. It's fine, just fine. I think I'm 30 years too young for this, and I'm not young.

Very boring, her voice reminds me of a terrible dutch artist. Some of the instrumentals are nice though.

Boh, piatto piatto.

I get the attraction, but something about j. M's voice rubs me the Wrong way

Not my thing, still belongs to the 70s

Okay, nothing really stands out, but enjoy her observational songwriting and wordplay. Music is all over the place and sometimes seems to have been an after thought thrown together at the last minute by the studio musicians. Raised and Robbery is a good jam, rest wouldn't come back to.

don't remember liking very much

It's fine. Not my style and a bit boring but I didn't hate it. I have nothing against Ms. Mitchell and she seems a fine musician.

Licht vermakelijk maar weinig smakelijk.

Doesn't really do much for me. 70s singer-songwriter pop just is never going to be my thing I think sadly.

Is it fucked up to give this a two? It's fine. I like Joni. I do. This just didn't do it.

A bit slow for my taste.

It's decent. Not a fan of Joni Mitchell. 2/5

I think I’m missing something

zzz snoozefest. original warbling acoustic guitar girl.

October 8, 2021 What I would imagine a Joni Mitchell album is like. I want to like her but I feel ambivalent.

2.5 stars

Uhg. I've never gotten Joni Mitchell. I get she's a great song writer and has a fantastic voice, I can hear that in the music. But, the vocal melodies and dissonant harmonies. I can't get past them. I think they're horrible. It's like if someone gave me a poem and I randomly started singing it. That and it's like listening to an hour long tampon commercial. All with the exception of Raised on Robbery. It's the antithesis to the rest of the album. It reminds me a lot of Mama Kin by Aerosmith. Twisted really shows her talent. She sounds like she's doing skat but she's still singing. It's a legit shoopy doo kinda thing.

Joni Mitchell is like a bad Billy Joel. The lyrics of “The Same Situation” made me angry. Having been an influential album 50 years ago is not enough for me. And I’m usually partial to singer/songwriters.

I've heard this album a lot growing up, one of my dad's favorites, so there's some nostalgia here. That said, I don't like it.

Joni Mitchell has a real flowery, pleasant voice, but the flowery language that accompanies it kind of grates at times. It's almost like she's challenging herself to say the simplest shit with as much effort as possible, shoehorning in syllables wherever she can. This would probably be a 3 if the music Mitchell was singing over was a bit more interesting, but then again, the final track's detour—featuring a bizarre cameo by Cheech & Chong of all people—left a pretty sour taste in my mouth. Key Tracks: Down to You, Just Like This Train

I appreciate Joni but I do not love Joni.

Little too mellow for me

Overall not bad, just not really my groove

Reminds me of the Schoolhouse Rock videos. Don’t get me wrong, I’ll never listen to this again - But, I didn’t completely hate it.

I fell asleep at the wheel, I don't get it. The last song was very different, that caught my ear, but I don't even remember what it was. Won't be going back to check it. I'll bump it to 2 stars, for me almost caring what that last song was.

Another Joni Mitchell's album and I'm more certain that I don't like it. Next

"in the morning there are lovers in the street"? what? Started very strong, but tapered quickly.

I'm not sexist. You guys are sexist. Where are the women in this group anyway? Thematically and musically repetitive. Feels like an album that launched a thousand shitty poets. I almost like Free Man in Paris. Not for me.

I just get Joni Mitchell - it just bores me... maybe needs more concentration that I possess

It's OK. Hard to get into for me.

not my cup of tea

It’s ok but I am not crazy about it

Not really my style. Instead of music a lit of talking.

Not for me. A cohesive album

Not my most favorite. A bit too much hippy.

Because -stars aren’t allowed

What could be possibly worse than listening to one Joni Mitchell album, listening to your second Joni Mitchell album. Then realizing there is still two more. Ugh. 1/10 Top song... None

This one is not for me. Definitely the female Bob Dylan, poet turned “musician”. I feel like I was getting whiplash emotionally and honestly just was not interested in her personal journey in relationships. It felt like a very specific time capsule that unfortunately(or fortunately) I was not alive for.

That makes two Joni Michell albums for me, and I think I can officially conclude that I'm not a fan.

Sure her voice is nice but those orchestral and jazz arrangements did my head in. Not my type of music, happy that others get joy from it.

not a huge fan

ABSOLUTE TRASH. SOUNDS TOO BORING. ALL THE SONGS SOUND THE EXACT SAME TO ME, NOT LIKE A CHARACTERISTIC STYLE, IT LITERALLY SOUNDS THE SAME, ALL SONGS

Boring

I'm sure the lyrics were good but music/voice too boring to pay attention to

Not very tood

😵‍💫

not my fav of hers #sorry

not my cup of tea, but was browsing book store at the same time, was chill. loved the "Still, I sent up my prayer Wondering who was there to hear I said, "Send me somebody who's strong and somewhat sincere" With the millions of the lost and lonely ones I called out to be released Caught in my struggle for higher achievements And my search for love that don't seem to cease" in her song same situations.

I love the lyrics - very relatable and poetic - but not the way she sings the song or the strange rhythms. Not for me.

I'm starting to give up

that was not good

Too flat for me

Fuck off already with Joni Mitchell.

At least I only have one more Joni Mitchell album to go

1. court - 1 2. help - 1 3. pariz - 1 4. partiez - 1 5. zame - 1 6. car - 1 7. douun - 1 8. train - 1 9. robbery - 0 10. child - 1 11. tuuizted - 1

not really my vibe, wouldn't listen to again, dnf

chato :(

I went into this one absolutely loathing Joni Michell. I gave it a shot, trying to hear what might have put it on a "great album" list. I have to report that my opinion has not changed. The best part about Court and Spark is that it's short.

Hate easy listening.

I didn't get this at all. Folk with 'jazz inflections' is really not my 'thing'. And that sleeve design is dreadful, which didn't help.

Whinny.

Not for me. I prefer blue

what i imagine is the first try at a musical made by a amator saxophone player

The second Joni Mitchell album on this list. As with the first album, this one got on my nerves right away. I listened to the first track of the album in its entirety and part of the second. I didn't want to waste any more time on it. The music is boring. I don't like the voice or the arrangements. 1/5

I have a friend who owned a bar in Brooklyn called Court & Spark. I asked him about the name and he told me it was a Joni Mitchell album. I didn't know if that was cool or not because I was unfamiliar with this album. Now I know. The answer is a resounding no. But at least this album is 10x better than The Hissing Of Summer Lawns. But I gave that zero stars. And 10 x 0... (Raised on Robbery is aight though)

Female vocals

It might be from the seventies, but it’s still that crappy sixties sound.

I can't stand Joni Mitchell

I guess you had to be there. Also, knowing she had a blackface “alter ego” and continuously defended it kinda ruins the vibe for me

Didn’t do anything for me

BASTAAAAAAA

in germany we call this kind of music 0815 - boring, nothing special every song sounds kinda the same

Absolutely not for me: I did finish it, though. Big dislike (though the last song wasn't terrible).

Ikke noget for mig

This folk crappy pop is really no good. I can't believe Joan is so big. I mean at least they are original songs and decent storytelling but the music really sucks

Just not my bag. I find it boring as hell. Sorry

Idk why but this album agitated me. Did not enjoy.

Snore fest

Not for me. 1/5

another god damn bloody foid album. this list has gone completely woke.

I just do not like her voice and her music. For me, Joni Mitchell is a bit like the female Temu-version of Bob Dylan.

Not a fan. Too slow for my taste. Not a lot that made the album stand out.

I dislike this woman very much

I don’t what it is but her cadence kinda pmo same way Faye Webster does. Very typical instrumentation in the 70s and felt like I’ve heard it before. Also Twisted being very swingy and Jazzy kinda threw me off since it was the only one that sounded like that, but it might have been the best song. Overall weak. 3/10

Joni Mitchell, from everything I’ve heard, is a wonderful person. Nothing against her. Her music, on the other hand. . . There’s a special ring of hell made just for me where they play her music on repeat. This album is well produced and varied, and I hope to never hear it again.

I understand some listeners really like this wordy, narrative style - for them it conjures up vivid imagery and evokes all kinds of emotional responses. I guess my brain just isn't wired up that way, I feel like I'm listening to someone reading passages from a novel out loud and the music is little more than an afterthought. Don't get me wrong - I have heard Joni Mitchell tracks that aren't like this, and some of the musical arrangements here was pretty interesting in places, but there were no songs that grabbed me on Court And Spark, despite listening right through a couple of times. Not great.

Joni Mitchell has nice cheek bones!

Having to listen to this felt like I was in trouble for something. It's bad enough when it's all folky and droning but then it gets kind of jazzy as it goes along? Blech.

No. I couldn't get through the whole thing.

Gepflegte Langeweile. Jedes Stück klingt irgendwie gleich. Unangenehm hohe Stimme, Melodien Mangelware. Nix!

like a penny whistle drowning

im sorry this is so boring

easy listening and inoffensive but tends to dull

Joni Mitchell is not my jam

Unfortunately I dislike Joni Michells voice. I got through 3 songs before I had to turn it off

Dreadful hippie shit

I don’t like Joni Mitchell’s music

Another Joni Mitchell album.....yay... NOT! Sorry but I find her music boring and unappealing.

Help Me is the big song from the album, meh. This sounds like an album of Sesame Street Songs with grown up lyrics. I think folk music is not for me, Bob Dylan and folk rock maybe. This is mildly annoying. Her voice has a Carly Simonesque quality. Or maybe Carly Simon's voice sounds like Joni Mitchell. Every time the album seems to be improving, the next song makes me reconsider. Raised On Robbery has a different sound and is the best track on the album. The addition of Cheech and Chong to the last song is just the cherry on top of this terrible album.

Folk songs are...nice (not) .2/5

70’s

1/5. C'est sévère, mais c'est honnête.

Not even good for going to sleep to

Not for me

Schon wieder Singer/Songwriter.

Not a fan

ugh, boring

Not for me

just not my thing. 1

There's something about the style of her songwriting that reminds me of musical theater - both trigger an intense negative emotional reaction in me. My emotional response is always to music. Lyrics can make a good song great, but they can't improve mediocre music at all. Joni Mitchell, and musical theater sound as if the songs are written to fit the lyrics. The words are not only paramount, but primary. It sounds like Joni writes her po-EMS and then follows Buddy the Elf's advice - she just talks them, only louder and longer and she moves her voice up and down. The result is not melody but a lead line that meanders and drifts and sounds unfocused and even shambolic to my ears. And that's what irritates me. I feel like I'm listening to a poet tack on music as an after thought. And then there's her voice. Now if she wrote great music, I wouldn't care. But since I don't like the songs, I try to find something to listen to and then I'm annoyed by her faerie little voice all tarted up with inelegant displays of vibrato. Vibrato is an affectation that I generally find weird and off-putting. I say generally because in the hands of a Master vocalist - I'm talking Sarah Vaughan or Dinah Washington level mastery - it can add an interesting dimension. But Joni's abuse of it makes her sound like an 8 year old trying to sound old; which makes me cringe even harder.

It’s a singer songwriter album. Same guitar riffs, same voice modulation. It suck’s.

Not on Spotify. L

Joni Mitchell's voice and style irk me

Had to listen to it on Amazon music…with ads 💀

I have tried to listen to Joni Mitchell multiple times in my life and every time its the same result. "Not to day Joni!"

Protesting her

Ik voel me onoverwinnelijk nu.

Wouldn’t play

Kan m niet afspelen op spotifru

I couldn't listen to it because she removed her music from Spotify.

Don’t really like Joni Mitchell. Some songs were ok. 2/10

not a fan

Staat ook niet op Spotify

Album isn’t on spotify

Not sure I'd go as far as Stevie Nicks' admission of listening to this album on LSD and praising it's experience. But who knows, it may have been better in an altered state. Joni Mitchell's brand of jazz-pop/soft-rock does not inspire me in any way, yet I can see how it will appeal to some people. Best: Free Man In Paris Worst: Twisted 1.5 stars Note: Album not available on Spotify, listened via YouTube

Not on spotify

I just don’t get her.

hiorrviel

Wasn't on Spotify, which saves me listening to warbling Joni.
