Reviews (page 10 of 13)

I do enjoy Joni Mitchell. Help Me is quite a standout on this album. I also enjoyed Just Like This Train, and Raised on Robbery.

Yeah, this is the third Joni Mitchell album I've had through the project, and she hasn't really grown on me. This album has a bit more stylistic variation than the others, so I guess I prefer it, but it's not a strong preference. Fave track - "Raised on Robbery", I reckon - didn't really sound like a Joni Mitchell song at all!

Classic album for Joni Mitchell. Beautiful voice and an easy album to listen.

Veldig hippie 3.5

I think I like Joni Mitchell but I don't know anything on this album. Definitely some jazz vibes on here which I think unfortunately tips this album into annoying territory for me. The instrumental section on Down To You is very pleasant. No other standout winners for me on here.

Yea that was pretty dope. Some jazz influences in there as well

Hard to believe its from '74, sounds like could have been recorded recently. Its not bad, nice and easy going. I've never taken the risk of buying an album by Joni, even though I like what I've heard of her's before. Might well now. But even so can't really see myself giving her better than a high 3. That's quite a few of those, we've had a good run of album recently.

Bugger all my notes have disappeared! I thought I would hate it, but I actually quite liked it. There was a lot going on with the instrumentals,, too much to take in on 1 listen. A big change in vibe after the 4th song, more jazzy bits and an up tempo track which took me by surprise. I'd like to give it a 4 if I had time to fully take it un, but for now a mid 3

It's fine music, Dad.

Fuck Spotify and fuck Amazon for removing my alternative. As for the actual album, well I love Blue, and apparently I loved most of Hejira too. This though, not so sure. I wasn't switched on particularly by much of it, I think the middle few songs are the strongest, but the boogie woogie threw me off completely and by the end I was just confused.

I enjoyed the more jazzy songs on this album much more than some of the "Joni Mitchell" ones earlier in the album.

I don't usually listen to solo artists, because there isn't enough emphasis on the band or backing instruments. This is okay though. Joni has deep meaningful lyrics and awesome vocal inflections. I really enjoyed listening to this album, and related quite strongly with certain lyrics. Almost a 4.

This is one of two Joni Mitchell albums I've known since I was a teenager. I like it ok but it doesn't move me much. It sounds very Los Angeles. music: appreciated. (⌐♡_♡)

Listened to this while playing Aeon's End with my partner against Prince of Gluttons. We lost twice. So this was the first album that wasn't on Spotify...so I had to listen to it on YouTube. Fuck that. Ads after every song completely ruin any possible listening experience. I enjoyed what I heard, but I know there are definitely better Joni Mitchell albums. Some beautiful moments though!

However much I listen, I can’t seem to bring myself to give a shit about Joni Mitchell.

omg this was good i didn't even mind her rapping like go off a bit sis

Original kacey mush raves. Really enjoyed it 3.5/5

3.2/5 some pretty catchy stuff here.

feels like laying in a field favorites: peoples parties

It felt like a fall music soundtrack. There weren’t many songs that stood out from a sonic variety but it was just a chill album that I would include as ambient music

The record is good, and I understand why other people love it. But I don't get it.

na verdade achei que seria melhor

To listen a bit more

I kind of wish I liked it more, but JM had never really done much for me.

Not my favorite Joni album. Solid but not one I feel drawn to.

Cool album. Reminded me of Steely Dan.

Mitchell deserves props for her penmanship alone however there still needs to be a balance between lyrics and sound with music.

Objectively good, not for me, a bit dull. Down to you is the high point of the album. Raised on robbery slaps.

Even though this is Mitchell's best selling album, I found myself wishing this was Blue. A lot of the songs sounded similar to the songs from Blue, but not quite as good. The turn that she takes in a Jazz direction didn't do it for me. Give me folk.

This makes me feel warm, thoroughly enjoyed it

Its good, but I think I need to listen to it a lot more before I say its one of the greatest albums of all time but, in my opinion.

Nr. 9/1001 Court and Spark 4/5 Help Me 4/5 Free Man in Paris 3/5 People's Parties 3/5 The Same Situation 3/5 Car on a Hill 3/5 Down to You 4/5 Just Like this Train 3/5 Raised on Robbery 2/5 Trouble Child 2/5 Twisted 2/5 Average: 3 Poetic, but very repetitive

Good ol’ Joni - straightforward stuff here

Sometimes Joni hits me just right and sometimes she leaves me cold. Today felt like autumn and I pictured leaves blowing as she sang her tunes. This was pretty good until the last track switched over into caterwauling

This album seems to me something I can not make a connection with, seems it was created for and by a generation I can’t relate. The lyrics seem to take us on a journey through the high and lows of her lovers and her relationships and the contradictions of those relationships (I think upon first listen), and no doubt she is a wonderful poet. A singer / songwriter who made a big impact in the 1970s. I found it a very slow, kind of boring album, almost lulling me to sleep. And her lyrics, however brilliant, I could find no connection with. However, the songs were pleasant enough, and a little jazzy, with some interesting lyrics. (I think I may have gotten more out of them had I read them in poem form) to have been glad I listened once.

Quite good, although I find myself zoning out a lot of the time. Good story but not much to draw me in

Fun and jazzy. Beautiful voice.

AJ: Joni is awesome. Listened to a few tracks on YouTube. Piano and a voice. Joni is awesome.

Far from bad, but also far from capturing my interest this morning. The melodies are generally pleasant, as is her voice -- there's a calm, jazzy quality to it. The standouts that got me were quite enjoyable -- Troubled Child, Help Me, and Just Like This Train being a few. The rest sort of just washed over me without much impact. This sits at a 3 for me.

I really liked the first song. After the first song I was expecting a sneaky 4, maybe 5 star album to come out from this. Unfortunately I kinda zoned out for this one while working. It all starts sounding similar. That being said, I liked her voice and it was never bad. Probably deserves another listen, but I'll call it as I see it after one listen for this one.

Classic 60's piano vibes. It didn't keep me that engaged though. May have given it a 4 on another day.

It was nice, just didnt blow me away. At times a bit boring, even. Nice background music, but listening to it made me look for other stuff to do.

Not my Cup of tea

it's Joni Mitchell doing Joni Mitchells thing. i neither love nor hate Joni Mitchells thing.

Boooooo

Sometimes sounded like The Carpenters. Light and carefree and jazzy. + Help Me + People's Parties + Car On A Hill

The Queen of Folk. Enjoyable, but forgettable.

Classic Joni Mitchell

Great album that I seem to bond with more over each listen! Well penned songs accompanied by a beautiful voice. 7,5 out of 10

It’s fine. Her music never really grabbed me. That might have something to do with me not really paying attention to lyrics. A podcast I listen to (How Did This Get Made) love her and have been talking about her recently, so I was primed to give this a fair shot, but so far it hasn’t clicked for me. Clearly this album is well-crafted, and is understandable how the album went to 2 on the American charts.

I remain fairly "meh" on Joni as a singer. I don't think it's her voice, which is beautiful, but it's not to my taste. Possibly more about artistic/musical choices of the eras in which she's been most prolific. I love many of her songs, but tend to love them more when someone else sings/arranges them. Blasphemy, I know.

goated album nuff said

Nice voice and an overall pleasant listening experience. Favorite track: Help Me.

It sounded influential, but a little too much babadeeboo for me.

Her lyrics are amazing but the music seems discordant to the words to which it is paired.

It's beautiful, it's tuneful, it's really nice lyrically, but it just doesn't go anywhere. It's lovely to have on in the background, and quite nice to listen to closely for a track or two. But this is sung poetry, rather than proper music; the song structure isn't there, it meanders and wanders and doesn't ever catch me. Shedloads of talent there - the lyrics are good, her singing voice is superb, but there's just not enough actual music in there for me to want to listen to it again. 3/5.

Couldn’t listen not on spotify

Jesus Christ. As I just said a few albums back, there are other Canadian artists worth featuring on this list. Not every single album in Joni Mitchell’s oeuvre needs to be included. This one was a big commercial success, but I think Blue is the definitive work that sums her up perfectly. I’m spending my day with The Hip instead. And I hope any non-Canadians that might read my review will follow my lead to discover some other wonderful Canadian gems.

Great voice. Good storytelling. Cheech and Chong were fun.

Really didn’t do anything for me. It’s eclectic and sporadic it felt. Couldn’t really get into it. It’s not a bad album, or bad music, it just left me underwhelmed.

Some of those are great, still came back to first, title track but I keep forgetting the rest.

heh nukahtaen paljoa ei muistane albumista..

No esta en Spotify

Great voice. But this just isn't for me.

Pleasant, but not going to stick with me.

Nice to listen to.

Muistan 70-luvun uudestaan. Ei stressiä ja elää joka hetki. Kiitos Joni! Joni Mitchellin ääni ON taidetta! Rakastan Jonin huomiota yksityiskohtiin. Hänen laulunsa antavat elävän kuvan. Mikä sisällöllinen ja luonteeltaan nainen...... down to you

Didn’t listen to the whole album because it’s not on Spotify any YouTube ads annoy me. What I did hear is nice enough though. Folky singer songwriter style.

Nice interesting album

Pleasant voice, nice for lazy afternoons. Unfortunately not really my vibe.

I had to check first songs one more time because last 2 or 3 tracks were so different. Unfortunately rest of album is a bit boring to get more than 3. It is just fine

Joni's voice is mesmerising. She could sing my grocery list to me and it would be every bit as enchanting as this album was.

Beautiful voice, great music, not my jam

An acquired taste, i think

Listened on YouTube. Mellow and smooth, jazzy and occasinally rocky but very 70's. There's nothing for me to latch onto and I couldn't engage. Joni is so accomplished and clever but there's a barrier- she leaves me cold. Perfect in what it is but there are so many albums out there- Blue for instance is far better imo.

Third Joni Mitchell album I've gotten so far. I do like her. Her voice is like if a bird learned jazz riffs. Gotta be in the right mood to groove to her. But this one was my favorite of her albums so far.

Joni Mitchell is an incredible songwriter and lyricist. There is a lot going on with this album. I wasn’t as into some of the jazzier arrangements, though.

Light music and a pretty voice. If I were a tokker I would listen to this.

it was all right

This is alright. I like that it has a lot of jazz influence. Not something I jive with a whole lot, but not terrible. It's very 70s in the way that she sings and the instrumentation used. This is a mid 3/5

Like folk music, and have liked the Joni Mitchell stuff I've heard before. But this left me a little cold - maybe it was the adverts cutting up the album on You Tube, maybe it's the jazz style to some of it, maybe it's just because I prefer my folk either a bit more trad or a bit more celtic. I'm not sure, and maybe with repeated listening I'd grow to love this or something. Quite disappointingly it's a 3 for me. I had high expectations but I doubt I'll listen to this again.

album not available on spotify

Cool orechstral part

Lacks a bit of originality and spark for me

Any album that features a Cheech & Chong cameo can't be all bad. I'll take this over Dylan any day. Too folky at times which is a drawback but I'm willing to listen to more Joni Mitchell.

Folk pop, I would say. Nice croon-ey voice

Soothing voice and nice compositions.

Folk music is not a favorite of mine, it’s often sort of poetic blogging about low stakes autobiographical scenarios and feelings set to acoustic guitar, but I enjoyed this album a lot despite my predisposition. Her voice is delightful and the variety of instruments was beautiful, with horns and woodwinds backing some of the tracks and a blessed lack of harmonica ruining everything.

Lovely voice, probably a classic. Not my jam.

Very breezy, laid-back, kinda soft rock. It makes the album good mood music but it kinda works against it in the sense that some of the songs end up blurring together. The sound is a bit mealy-mouthed, like the Carpenters or something, and the little injections of jazz hurt more than help. Still, she has such a nice warm voice that it carries the sections I found dull. Best song: Help Me

The musicianship throughout this is fantastic. Really enjoyed the feel of this album. Knew of Joni but had never taken the time to listen, would definitely revisit the album. Didn’t think the last track really matched the vibe of the rest of the album though.

It's perfectly nice.

I very much like small doses of Mitchell. Her stream of narrative style of prose lyrics make it very hard to pay attention. I suppose I could just not pay attention and let the sound of her voice just wash me away, but it doesn't quite work like that. You find yourself re-attaching to the narrative and then thinking "But how? Why did we get here?" - and I find that quite irritating. The music isn't engaging enough to keep me apace with the lyrics.

Mellow stuff but I don't feel the need to revisit this album very often.

Vaatii keskittymään sanoituksiin, mutta silti toimii hyvänä taustamusana

- Not on Spotify so automatically a minus - Love the piano and way the instruments work together - Fun vocals - Favorite songs: Help Me, Free Man in Paris

Court and Spark is the sixth album by Canadian singer-songwriter Joni Mitchell. This pop album contains elements of folk rock and jazz. It was an immediate success - commercially and critically - being certified double platinum in the US and remains Mitchell's most successful album. This was a relaxing and soothing album that I'm glad I had the chance to listen to. Any fans of soft rock or jazz-pop will love this album.

Joni Mitchell has always been difficult for me to listen to. Similar to say, Bob Dylan, I acknowledge that she's a terrific song-writer and hugely talented, but her singing style just grates me. This is Mitchell's 6th album and you can hear her segueing away from folk to jazz and that's good news because I think her talking/scat type of singing is more suitable for jazz. This wasn't as bad as I was expecting.

I have a lot of respect for Joni but her music rarely connects with me. I'll be happy to hear her albums whereever they are being played but I likely won't spin one of her records on my own.

Yeah Joni Mitchell is quite nice. Wasn’t fully in the mood and spoiled some what by YouTube ads.

Great songwriting

Not my favorite stuff by her but still lovely

Some great songs, but a little jazzy for my tastes

5/10 The vibes were there but they were not for me i guess. İ didn't understand the dynamic of the album, it was lovely though. Probably would never listen again.

This was a nice album. I don't have anything bad to say about it, it's just not really my thing. Great voice, though!

Her voice is arguably more important as an instrument than as a lyric delivery system. "Help Me" is amazing! Some of the jazzy bits were really lovely, but many of these reflections are a better fit for a therapist or friend than for an album.

Jazz-pop pone en wikipedia... Ni fu ni fa.

Folk. No me atrapa.

It’s ok nice enough voice but I wouldn’t revisit

This album is like a 3.49-3.51 to me and I’m not quite sure how to round it. No parts of it are bad but it feels very plain for a Joni Mitchell album

3 years after her masterpiece Blue. She's exploring a bit but the quality is nowhere near the level that she reached prior. This goes doubly for the b-side, which is not that good.

Knocked for not bowing to our corporate music streaming overlord Spotify. Just kidding. Like everything, it’s well produced, doesn’t really stand out

no longer on spotify so it took some effort it cooks

3/5. Unique enough to stand out but the middle of the album does not stand out enough. It picks up near the end and it’s not bad, just not a repeat listen.

Enjoyed listening to this, but there wasn't really anything that stood out for me. Good for background music, but since it's not on Spotify I probably won't return to it.

RIP not on Spotify.

Joni Mitchell was not my favorite singer, but she's a good songwriter, and there's some really good instrumental performance on this album.

Not bad but why are there so many albums of her? it's not as bad as Costello and way more listenable but i don't get what so extremely "Must Hear" about it

3.5. Probably her best.

Haunting voice. Very appealing.

Enjoyable but a bit boring.

3.5; I recognize it's good but I just don't really like it

Didn't spark much for me.

I never thought I would say that I like Joni Mitchell, but this album opened my eyes. I love her voice!

I like this album, to my surprise. Her singing is good and the songs were enjoyable. Definitely not my favorite album, but it's good. Sucks that it's not on Spotify though. Favorite song: Car on a hill Worst song: Twisted

I'm not having much luck with Spotify recently. This wasn't there so I listened to some Joni live.

There are some classic Joni vocal moments here, let down a bit by some very mid -70s production and musical choices

A short but focused effort, and likely my favorite of all the Mitchell albums I’ve heard here so far. Each track manages to expand on its chosen narrative without going overboard, allowing the story and melody to flourish without dragging on. Also includes the most upbeat and fleshed-out instrumentals of Joni’s career, which do well to highlight her more playful lyricism this time around as opposed to her more introspective efforts

A decent album by Joni Mitchell. This one didn’t have any songs that really blew me away like the first one I got did. Her singing is good but varied on the edge of a bit much with the way she draws out some notes. The folk upbeat guitars accompany her voice well. I haven’t disliked any of her music but this one didn’t stand out too much. 5.8/10

Best Song: Help Me. Iconic, memorable, with a nice vocal performance. Worst Song: Raised on Robbery. I just don't think this kind of rock n' roll fits her style. Overall: For whatever reason, I like this offering much more than the previous Joni Mitchell album that I've had on this list. Her vocals are less all over the place, putting the focus more squarely on her lyrical strengths.

Little bit disappointed considering the reputation Mitchell has. The pop-jazz combination fails to be either jazzy enough to be authentically cool, or poppy enough to be catchy and fun. Lyrics are still good, but need to be read alongside the listening. Some nice tracks, but a lot of weird choices.

Beautiful beautiful beautiful voice - lovely production, arrangements and instrumentation - but it lacks the songs to elevate all those ingredients. Good base average recipe.

73/100: This was an incredibly beautiful album. I would love to listen to this again, but it was so hard listening to this since it isn’t on Spotify. I respect Joni Mitchell for making the stance she did, but wow it makes it impossible to listen to her stuff. Overall great album though.

Uh, well, hmmm, Ok. I got excited when I saw Joni Mitchell. I haven't listened to much by her, but I was hoping for some tunes that would teach your cold, English wife to feel. You know, deep poetry set to deeper music. This was, uh, well, hmmm, poetry, I guess? In the same way that Jack Handy is poetry. A little too obvious for my taste. Looking at reviews after I listened to it, uh, well, hmmm - it's apparently a HUGE deal of an album. Huh. That's....interesting. I dunno - nice voice, and great production value (made my second hand Bose Wave Radio that's hooked up to my garage Alexa sing like, well, a Bose Wave Radio commercial), but uh, well, hmmm - I don't Love this, Actually. But three stars for A) being able to sing, and B) not making me wish I was deaf.

Well, I am glad I heard this album before I died, but I will never intentionally listen to it again. Amazingly beautiful songs, I can picture teens in the early seventies playing this on the hi-fi and reading along with the lyric sheet alone in their room. There are two problems. 1) Her voice. it takes some getting used to. I think I could acquire the taste for strange sound she makes, like someone trying to sing in a british accent or something, but it would take some committment and effort, that sort that can be gained typically by providing interesting music and lyrics but- 2) Her singing style. Sorry, this is a big ol' problem. Nearly every song is like this. "la-la-laaaa-i'm-singsong-tallllking-la-la-laaa.... Immmmpaccctful Phrase!" So sorry Joni, in the end you are as annoying as your are brilliant, and it all balances out to a big neutral.

I get the appeal of this for some, but it sounds too much like poetry that was written separate from the music and then there was an attempt to make the lyrics fit the song without adjusting the lyrics to fit the music. Not really for me.

Better than anticipated since I wasn't big on Joni before. Some songs were v good. Others were meh.

-Mostly just okay -Genuinely liked a couple of songs -There were some creative 70s instrumental sections that I liked

Buena voz femenina. Gran icono de aquella época

Weird, not bad but not good either. 2.5/5

Surprised to read this is her most successful album: for me the jazz elements take away from her strengths.

Great production, little to whimsical for me tho

I enjoyed

Never listened to Joni Mitchell, this is great, and it's pretty clear she's got a pretty strong influence in a lot of music to come afterwards. Great record, production quality is top notch.

An above par soundtrack, was good to have on in the background for Wifey’s birthday dinner

I have enormous respect for Joni Mitchell, I just don't enjoy her music that much. The uptempo numbers on Court and Spark are uniformly excellent; Free Man in Paris, Help Me, Raised on Robbery, even the beatnick vibe of twisted is great, it's when she slows things down that she becomes hit or miss for me...and more miss than hit. 3.5 🌟

Почти что однообразие на альбоме Только песня help me отправляется в медиатеку из понравившихся еще car on a hill на down to you я почему-то услышала Адель о:

Couldn’t listen, it’s not available on Spotify so giving a middle 3

decent!

Jazz-pop pone en wikipedia... Ni fu ni fa.

I've never been a big Joni Mitchell fan, but I appreciate her songwriting talent. There are some really good songs on this record; especially Court and Spark, Raised on Robbery and Help Me. The rest are fine. She's just not my cup of tea.

I did not listen to this closely enough to give it a fair review but what I heard was interesting enough

не моё

Ei valittamista mutta aika taustamusaksi jäi!

Kiinnostava, en ole Jonia juuri kuunnellut. Pitää joskus kuunnella vähän paremmin kuin kämästi youtubesta.

More interesting than I expected. Definitely of a style but a good reflection of that style.

It wasn't as good as I remember it. Still quite enjoyable though.

Afschuwelijke muziek. Nu het echte album op Youtube gevonden. Wat een geweldig album! Heerlijk relaxt en mooi gezongen. ***

Relaxing, good vocals, but overall the song list was a bit boring and forgettable. No stand out tracks.

It’s sound was intriguing as she mixed some styles here. Her voice and lyrics are also very good. It’s not my favorite style but I still enjoyed it.

Lovely pop from Joni's early period. Beautiful voice, catchy tunes albeit very "wordy" in places (verbose?). 'Help me" is a treat.

I know Joni Mitchell is widely considered a musical genius. I can see that, but there's something about her voice and the melodies that just don't resonate with me. Setting that aside I did enjoy this album, especially the song Raised on Robbery. 3 stars.

Pop, jazz... Melódico. Suave.

Very original and interesting. Not my genre, but I enjoyed the listen.

This was an a-okay listen.

Sounds quite good. Gonna be 3 or 4 stars from me. The classic one person singing with simple instrumentals that I like

Turns out I like Hejira more, this album was just eh for me.

I have struggled to get into Joni’s music in the past, and this one too. I think a little to simple and stripped down for me, although there are a few exceptions on this record that caught my ear a little more. 5/10

Good album. Help me.

Its very nice if not a bit twee

Ends on a three-song-or-so run of the most adventurous and light material. The rest is carried along by Mitchell's tone, but far flatter.

Was not able to listen to this on Spotify - but found the 1001 album podcast so it wasn’t all bad! And then made the switch to Apple music and job's a goodun. Bit different to what I was expecting, but still good.

It was grand. Exactly the sort of 60s folksy stuff i expected really

Consistently interesting, but a bit of a relic, and behind both Blue and Hissing of Summer Lawns in my book. As good as the writing is, the vocals get a little too talky at times, though she does a lot with a sorta average voice.

A good one.

Lovely melancholic singer/songwriter stuff. Sounds exactly like here other albums.

Joni great as always. 7/10

Eh nice voice and all but not really crazy about folk music. 6/10.

Listened Before? N Good album. I enjoyed the style and substance. There are some great cameos on this one too.

Weak 3, not used to the genre but can appreciate her good voice

didn't hold my attention but it wasn't bad music

okay sound, got better with additional listens.

Cool album, got some really nice songs on it and she’s got a great voice. Love some of the lyrics too.

good album but i didn’t really enjoy it much except maybe one song 2.5

This was good. I did not reall expect this from Joni Mitchell.

Not really my jam, but a decent listen.

clean sound but im tired

3.5/5 this was kind of upbeat. I'll have to relisten

Decent Joni.

Good album. One song I liked. Twisted.

-"Twisted" has some fun vocal melodies -"Raised on Robbery" is by far the best song. The vocal harmonies, the funky backbeat, the saxophone, it's upbeat catchiness totally separate it from the rest of the album -Rest of the album was fine, but not very exciting

This was lovely. I’m looking forward to more by her in this list.

// Favs: – Score: Strong 3

High 3 from me. Genuinely enjoyed this album. Joni could fucking get it man

I respect the hell out of Joni Mitchell. I think I would have rated this lower if I had been blind to the artist. Overall, well done, but not for me.

As a rule I'm not a fan of Joni Mitchell. This is no exception, but "Raised on Robbery" is decent. I can objectively see that it's actually a good album, just not my cup

Was aightttt

Inoffensive coffee shop background music

Firmly in the camp of good but not my thing.

Joni has a great voice, and she is a great poet. Great album for folk music. Many of the songs blend, but they are an enjoyable listen.

i liked it. her voice is very soothing and comforting.

People love Joni Mitchell but her music just doesn't do it for me. Very soft easy-listening. I would put her in the same category as Paul Simon. Just very inoffensive, low tempo, background noise. It's not that it's bad, she's definitely talented, just not for me.

Solid country album, liked the Jazz song Twisted but felt that the 1950s inspired Raised on Robbery song too busy. Would I listen again? No, but would I complain if it was on? No.

Nice, but not my cup of tea

A little less jazzy (aside from "Twisted") than the other album I've received from her so far ("The Hissing of Summer Lawns"). Still an enjoyable enough listen, just didn't really click with me to where I'm overly fanatical about it. Favorite tracks: "Car on a Hill", "Down to You"

She's a good songwriter, and there are some nice tracks here. Not feeling any strong desire to revisit it though

Quite fun in places, I struggle with the stuff of this age to judge it according to when it was created... so it is a bit average sounding now.

Gillar albumet. Bästa låtar: Help Me Car on a Hill Free Man in Paris

Not a Joni Mitchell fan but this album is fun and jazzy. Basically about how JM fucks.

Fine. Like a chill hippie vibe

She's a really good song writer and I like her voice

I just wasn’t feeling it until Raised on Robbery kicked in. Those last three songs are why I give it 3 stars. Otherwise, it woulda just gotten the ole one-er.

Great voice, can see why its on the list, but not my cup of tea

23rd June 2021 Listened on the living room speaker while working. I feel like Joni Mitchell demands your attention, you get a flavour if you have it on in the background but detailed listening rewards you. Bright and summery.

I'm glad this has come up as I need to properly listen to it. First listen is 3*...

Listened to this album a few times. I love Joni Mitchell’s voice, so smooth and rich. It’s a solid album, with quite a mixture of sounds and some of the songs are really bouncy!! Pleasant listening but nothing really grabbed me.

Really enjoyable, lovely songwriting and arrangements, will definitely revisit. But only one or two standouts on here - lacks belters for me.

Good stuff …. Great artist

All very nice with a couple of very good songs - will never be a huge fan but appreciate her voice and impact

I liked the album but didn't get into it as much as I had hoped - might need several listens.

An album that deserved more attention than the two (semi) listens I gave it, but I did enjoy this. Help Me and Free Man in Paris were the highlights for me.

Saved Prior: None Off Rip: Help Me, Car on a Hill, Just Like This Train, Twisted Cutting Edge: Raised on Robbery Overall Notes: "A folk singer with a poet's heart" yeah that checks out. This is how you turn poetry into actual songs that do things, Leonard Cohen take notes. 3.5 rounded down (barely)

Love her

Not bad, it just wasn’t what I was in the mood for.

Definitely liked it, but need something else happening or I might fall asleep

I liked it for Saturday morning vibes

Didn't dig too deep into this one. Similar style to Carole King, but Joni just doesn't quite have as strong a voice, but she mostly makes up for that with some more interesting melodies and rhythms. She has faster stuff like "Raised on Robbery" which work well with her voice, but there's not enough of it. Would be a four but I'm just not that bothered about her.

This album was, indeed, easy listening. Joni definitely puts a lot of herself in her lyrics, like an easy listening version of Bruce Springsteen. Anyway, there were a few catchy things happening here and there, but I have trouble believing that this album was transformative or historically relevant.

Went by quickly, going round 2 - that being said, not my cup of tea*. I might save it because it would make me look good if I threw this on, say, cooking dinner. *GD the recording quality is exceptional though!

I could appreciate this album, and all that Joni Mitchell is/was to the soundscape of the singer/songwriter. It wasn’t totally my cup of tea. I enjoyed it, but wouldn’t listen again.

need more time with it

This album sounds very 70's. For a singer-songwriter, has such a full production with lots of backing instrument. Much of it is suitible for a 70's tv theme song. I do love her voice and how she uses it. Just like a lot of rappers she rushes and slows her singing. It adds a lot of interest to her singing and enhances the tempo changes in the songs. Overall the album only has few songs that really stand out.

I liked this Joni Mitchell better than the other one we listened to, still wish the author didn’t put multiple albums from a single artist on this list

Didn't enjoy this as much as Blue but still pretty lovely.

Songwriting, jazzy. Reminded to Jethro Toll melodies.

What made me really fall into Joni’s music, her unique guitar playing, song writing, chord use and singing, was not what I found in this album. Nevertheless, I do find this a good album, well recorded and produced, a strong vocal performance and a good length.

It's one of those "objectively good" albums: well written, well performed, well regarded. But I just don't like folk music that much, and this doesn't stand out to me for that reason.

It's the lady from Love Actually! Not bad, pretty easy to listen to. It's not my "jam" genre certainly but was a pleasant listening experience. She has a pretty unique voice.

Hey I liked this one better than the other Joni ditty on here! I can’t really explain why, but as a hockey fan I did appreciate the line about having a bit of money riding on the Maple Leafs. Up until about two years ago, that would have been a notoriously bad gamble. Also, where else am I going to get another song that mentions a damn thing about hockey??? FIVE STARS.

Joni has a really individual sound and a beautiful range on her voice. I understand why so many people like her but I don’t think I’m in the right head space to enjoy her today. May try this album again later

Intéressant !

This is some easy listening stuff. Quite nice for my morning chores with a coffee! Although it's not something I would listen to again. I preferred Carole King and Bonnie Raitt for this kind of music. The intro is quite boring but it picked up a bit afterwards. I like the instrumentals, and the various different instruments I can hear being used in each song. Some that stand out to me: Help Me, Car on a Hill. Raise on Robbery is more my style. Twisted was a nice bluesy outro to the album.

her voice is angelic

Pretty good. I liked the one where she called everyone on their bullshit.

It's nice, but nothing shattering for me. I can see why people would love it though.

Beautiful. Wasn't a huge fan of the jazzier parts but very nice overall

A few of these songs resonated with me, but overall Joni Mitchell is too mellow for my taste.

I liked this better than the other Joni Mitchell albums we've had, but it doesn't do anything transcendent for me. Free Man in Paris was prob my favorite track.

Mellow listening!

Pretty good Joni Mitchell album. Includes help me.

Joni Mitchell isn't really my thing. The album absolutely has its moments, but ultimately it didn't hold my interest well 3/5

Great night-driving music.

Decent album which for a name like that, falls a bit short of expectations

its alright but there is no song that really stands out to me

Spotify. Liked the singles. Fave song “help me”.

Not sure about this one, Joni

Some good grooves on here, but it overall didn’t strike my fancy. The last song brought the score down a lot.

I like "Help Me" quite a bit but this doesn’t hit me like some of her other stuff. There’s nothing here I like as much as, for example, “A Strange Boy” from Hejira.

Smooth slow uninteresting jazz. It's not bad and I'd say I like her voice but it all gets kinda samey. It's short and doesn't overstay it's welcome. High 2

I just don’t really get the appeal. She’s a decent enough writer, but don’t care for vocals in higher range. And not really sure what genre this falls into

The music lover in me wanted to like this, however I'm already not the biggest jazz fan and this is a jazz heavy album. Something about her singing out of rhythm with the music made me feel actual anxiety-it's a personal pet peeve of mine.

Far too much easy listening jazz for my taste. I prefer folky Joni. 1.65 rounded up to 2

I don’t like her music as much as I probably should

Nicht mein Ding

pretty, technical, impressive but also the forgettable soundtrack to a dinner party I'm desperate to get away from... 2.4

The only thing that's a over-represented and boring as mediocre British pop on this list is folk from the Laurel Canyon. Of course Joni's lyrics, composition and her feminist approach have been influential and deserve respect. I still cannot stand her annoying style of singing and the music.

My review of The Hissing of Summer Lawns also applies here: I appreciate that Joni Mitchell is an icon who has influenced countless artists, but her music doesn't do it for me.

Some folk, some soft rock some soul some jazz but overall pretty boring.

1.7/5 I'm not a fan of Joni's voice so this wasn't an enjoyable listen

Bit rambly and self indulgent She’s trying to fit too many words in each bar Maybe she should’ve been a rapper

Full sound but I don’t think I like Joni.

Might relisten, might not. Don't like Joni Mitchell

Niet echt me ding maar raised on robbery was wel leuk

Joni, nein danke. Ich werde kein Fan von dir. Langweilig.

Boring
