Reviews (page 6 of 11)
R&B/Soul/Blues. Smooth, easy, toe-tapping listening. This is what you think of when you think of soul/blues. Couldn't find the album on Spotify; sourced the songs and built a custom playlist.
Great music from the 1950s. 8.0/10
Sweet album, feel like it could be played anywhere and not be out of place. At the same time, nothing super stand-out-ish about it, just a pleasant listen all round.
Solid album. I have not listened to him much, but respect his being the foundation for a lot of other music.
pretty decent
Good music
Had to reconstruct this album because it's not listed on Spotify. Pretty good though! Fats Domino sounds much different than I expected tbh (based on his name alone). As a man of no culture I tend to not like music from the 60s or earlier but I genuinely liked this work!
Fun and fresh album! Despite being an antique by this point, most of the songs on this album are very good! While the old familiars like blueberry hill, blue Monday, and honey chile draw me in, I'm loving new discoveries like fat man hop. I rate it 3.5, but will up it to 4 due to a history handicap.
No one does it quite so well! Love it
R&B, piano-blues y swing. Corto y directo, bonito y divertido.

Unfortunately not fully available on Spotify, but fantastic song writing, stunning Voice, can tell song structures influenced future music in a huge way
This knows what it is. Short, simple, sweet. Great sound that has established itself in everything leading up to today.
This is the kinda stuff I was hoping to discover on this list. I knew a few of these songs, but the whole record was great.
This is a test
Nice little songs to enjoy!
I couldn't find the specific album so I can only give a four, but ever since I sat Treme I've loved me some Fats. My favourite of the early rock and roll era pioneers.
An interesting mix of blues, jazz and rock. The recording privileges voice over the instruments which is a shame because it sounds like the playing is good. I like this.
Good vocals. Love the Mardi Gras one!
Some great piano, he is one of the kings 🤴
What’s not to like, just some easy listening that sounds great.
Good album, brilliant voice. Can't see myself revisiting it often but it's still nice to hear.
Early big band / pop solid
I didn't find this album, but I listened through some greatest hits and am glad I did! What a legend, blending swing, blues, and early rock together to create upbeat, fun, and entertaining songs.
The master of rock n roll piano. The only song missing on this is Ain’t That a Shame. This is a good, short rocker that I can listen to over and over again. Also for being from the 50s, it is recorded very well. Favorite track: Blueberry Hill Least favorite track: You Done Me Wrong
Absolutely classic, not a weak track on here. There's no escaping the groove on any of these tracks thanks to the strong instrumentation and lyrics from Fats.
Loved it! Excellent Louisiana swing and blues. Messy and lots of fun. Great grooves!
Feels like I'm in a mob movie. I like it so far.
A blues pioneer-- truly a fun listen.
Old fashioned but still worth the jam
Finally, an album whose significance I can immediately understand. Some of the finest work of early rock n' roll. It would be nice if the recordings were a little better, but there's not much that can be done with that. Very upbeat album, even when he's singing the blues 4/5
Muy bueno!
Blueberry hill is good
Beautiful soulful songs, too bad it's missing about half the tracks on Spotify.
- Classic blues. Aged better than I expected. Clear voice, clear instruments
Figura muito importante pro surgimento do rock. Influência grande nos Beatles.
Seems like there's a decent amount of jazz influence in this rock n' roll. Fats is a classic. If this site had half stars, it'd be closer to 3.5. Favorite tracks: "Blue Monday", "Reelin' and Rockin'"
Can't go wrong with Fats. It's funny how its close to impossible to navigate through his album during the 50/60's. All named similar and with his wonderful face on the album covers.
This web site directs to a Spotify album which is missing some tracks. Also, the sound quality is rather bad, but partly because this is music from the 50s. One of the tracks “The Fat Man’s Hop” i was unable to find. Otherwise, this is standard Fats Domino, who is one of my favorites. Too bad there aren’t more hits on this record.
Who's this? This is Fats Domino. Glad we cleared that up. According to Wiki, the original album has an exclamation point: "This Is Fats Domino!". Some of his other albums are: "This Is Fats", "Here Stands Fats Domino", "Rock and Rollin' with Fats Domino", and "Fats Domino Rock and Rollin'". Frankly, that's delightful. Much better than the Led Zeppelin album naming scheme, which lacked followthrough. The songs aren't quite as good as the album titles, but they're pretty good. Short and snappy and the kind of "R&B" that is actually just "oldies".
As with most of the pre-1960 albums I’ve listened to so far, I can understand that this is Important and that Fats Domino is a foundational figure, but I can’t say it was a super enjoyable listen.
Most of the songs sound the same. Not sure id ever play it again, and 30 minutes of it is enough. Despite this i did enjoy it. I can imagine it would of being great in a small sweaty black club in the 50s
Fun fallout-esque music
7/10 Classic bluesy vibes, nice chill chords with smooth singing over the top. Liked the innovation in instruments when they emerged like whistling and wood blocks. Highlight: Mardi Gras in New Orleans
Funky and groovy, I like it
*Apple Music note — had to piece this together track-by-track from compilations* Fun to read about his influence on rock music. I had him lumped in as a jazz artist in my head but this is rock, unquestionably. I enjoy his humble and laid-back vibes as a singer. 70 years later, the sound does just sort of wash over me instead of sticking in my head since most rock I’ve heard grabs this structure and adds to it. Even if it’s not a record I want to spin again, a 3 for good clean fun and legacy — it holds up just fine. And a good reminder that songs don’t always need to be longer than 2 minutes just for the sake of it. Fav songs: What’s the Reason I’m Not Pleasing You, So Long, Reeling and Rocking
Its more a collection of songs, a best of than an album, and I don't know how to rank that
OK
Funnily enough I could have been listening to this when I was in New Orleans. Very easy to listen to but it doesn't leave much of an impression on me
only Blueberry Hill
This was a fun dive into some of the roots of Rock'n'Roll.
Not on Apple Music. Pieces together.
Short but very sweet. Fats Domino is probably an important artist for the development of popular music. More of an historically important album than something to listen to in full. Blueberry Hill is the standout track.
I enjoyed this from front to back, but at the same time, there wasn't anything particularly compelling about it. I'm sure Fats is an important figure in the development of Rock 'n' Roll, though.
Uh. I was kinda expecting more? I don’t think he has much of a voice that stands out to me.
It took me a bit of effort to listen to all the songs on the album in the right order, but it was worth it. The highlights will go on my weekend morning playlist.
Everything sounds pretty similar, its not bad just not something I enjoy listening to.
Just a fun, old time rock n' roll record! Can't knock it. Spotify link does not have all track available, so made my own playlist from other Fats Domino compilations.
🎷🎷🎷
I couldn't find the album for this, found something that had a similar name but and had like 5 songs I feel like I can't judge this fairly since I haven't actually listened to it. I'm giving what I heard a 3 as it was very short but decent enough to listen to. Fav Track: Be my Guest
Meh, chill blues for background
fun
I'm not gonna lie, I zoned out listening to this one. Enjoyable enough though. May need a relisten some other time!
I'm blown away by the recording quality for 1957. God damn it's crystal clear. Still, not really my style, so I'll give it 3 stars. But honestly it's so smooth, if my tastes were going more toward this general style this could easily be a 4 or even a 5.
I'm maybe most impressed that a man of his size made it to 89 years old and survived Hurricane Katrina while staying in his modest house.
Could not find this album, so listened to his greatest hits album instead which was pretty fun. As an added bonus, those 13 tracks clocked in at under 30 minutes
super confusing to find this album online, since every search result gives me "This Is Fats" (totally different album). even the link from this site doesn't lead to the full album, so be prepared to dig for each individual track on your own if you're trying to listen on spotify and the like Blueberry Hill - 5/5 Honey Chile - 3/5 What's the Reason I'm Not Pleasing You - 3/5 Blue Monday - 4/5 So Long - 4/5 La La - 3/5 Troubles of My Own - 3/5 You Done Me Wrong - 2/5 Reeling and Rocking - 3/5 The Fat Man's Hop [instrumental] - 2/5 (you have to search on youTube to find this one) Poor Poor Me - 2/5 Trust in Me - 3/5 Average score: 3.1/5 ⭐️⭐️⭐️ i recognized Blueberry Hill from hearing it in passing here and there over the years. never occurred to me that this was the guy who sang it all other songs were alright for the most part i guess. not worth searching for every song all over the internet for in my opinion though. it's unlikely i'll come back to this one, but at least i was able to listen to it once
Blueberry Hill is fantastic but everything fell into variations on the same theme, with diminishing returns. It is interesting how, until the 60s, this was often the case with albums.
This was good, but didn't get me grooving like a lot of others 50s stuff. Recognising sampled bits was cool
Pleasant
3.4/5 Favorite Songs: Blueberry Hill Honey Chile Blue Morning
Yllättävän hyvä fiftarilevyksi, muutama hyvä biisikon, positiivinen ylläri! 3/5
This album is not on apple music so i had to frankenstein it from a tracklist I found on reddit. Its good, I love soul/RnB from this era. It lacks in production quality which I can't really ding it too hard for since it did come out in 1957, but this is really solid! 3.5/5
Good!!!
Thoughts before listening: Early rock n roll/r&b hitmaker known for Blueberry Hill. I'm pretty sure Fats was from New Orleans so a lot of that city's DNA is in his music which has a jazzy, piano driven swing to it. Should be a nice listen. Review: Yeah, I nailed the sound here. Piano driven songs with lots of horns in the mix played at a rollicking pace. What's not to enjoy? I can't say that any of this was really revolutionary or anything, but it's certainly a fun listen. 3-stars.
I guess I’ve never heard Fats before. Nice to check out some early rock and roll. What stood out most was that most tracks were quite short, under 3 minutes, and didn’t use the chorus-verse structure which has become the norm.
It's probably good music. But it feels so old and quaint in its lyrics and vibe.
Fats Domino’s warm and upbeat rock and roll was simple but genuinely enjoyable to listen to. I could hear why so many later artists were influenced by his style. The short song lengths also gave the album a light, fast-moving feel, making it feel like music made by people who simply enjoyed life.
You have to admire a musician who gives us a short, clean, and smooth project. Brevity is the soul of wit and all
Pretty fine album. Not much more to say other than it was a product of the times. 3/5
A classical from old times.
Very glad going in… Well, finding it and making sure it was what it was, was half the fun! So the instrumentals rock. Fat’s voice is great. The whole thing would benefit from better production and not being pieced together on YouTube. This period’s endless lyrics about frivolous love and meaningless relationships, which standard rock and roll of course inherited, tires me out. More instrumental interludes, less “song.” Oh wait… that’s jazz! I have a hard time, I want to go 4 but really, this is a 3 for me, honestly. 3 Boolean: oh yes, I am glad I went on the journey to hear this before I die.
Bueno
hell yeah rock n roll 🤘🤘
60's ballad so cool. This rythm reminds me of old movies on TV when I was a kid. I love the instruments
I was curious how fat, Fats Domino was because he doesn’t look super fat on the cover here. Turns out he was 5’5” and 220 in his prime, that’s a stout man. This is a man who is very important to music, touted as the man to have essentially created rock and roll with his blend of New Orleans Jazz, Boogie Woogie and some Rolling Piano. I struggle with this one, Fats brings joy and it’s a fun record but the 50’s was a singles era so a full album is going to have a good amount of fluff. I think Blueberry Hill, Blue Monday, Reeling and Rocking were strong. Fun listen overall. Thank you Fat Man. 3 stars
blueberry hill 6,5/10 honey chile 6,5/10 whats the reason im not pleasing you 6/10 blue monday 6/10 so long 7/10 la la 6/10 going home bonus track 6/10 mardi gras in new orleans bonus track 6/10 hyvä jazz albumi, tosin mulle vähän liian vanhanaikanen, spotifystä ei pystyny soittaa osaa biiseistä eikä albumi ollu nii hyvä et haluaisin ettiä ne loput. tää biisi olis just hyvä jazz baariin, mut arkielämään ei oikein mun tyyliä. koko albumi semmonen 6/10 ja lempparibiisi: so long
Enjoyed it but wouldn’t listen again. Some good songs but overall sound is a bit dated
can’t find this exact album on streaming so just listened to a good bit of his music, and it was killer!!! absolutely loved what i heard for its time
7.5/10-mike & Josie
This is absolutely fine. Fun. Ahead of its time probably but a real historical artifact more than particularly enjoyable.
Unfortunately, the entire album wasn't available on Spotify, but it's funny that he was one of the founders of rock and roll. The music gives me the feeling of a bar on Route 66, with lots of whiskey and people dancing. I believe that around the same time there were already several artists who had taken this faster step to dance with this mix of ragtime blues piano, so it's more of the same.
Gøy gammel blues, likere!
Blueberry Hill What’s the Reason I’m Not Pleasing You Blue Monday
Honey Chile Blue Monday Goin’ Home
Even the sad songs were cheerful back then. Really enjoyed this. Didn't think I would
not my cup of tea pero reconozco el aporte a la música
It’s funny to compare 1957 ‘rock’ music with the rock music of today. These crowds would meltdown if they heard Metallica. But it’s a fun historical lesson in where music came from. I liked it a lot more than the jazz of the time.
so like did he name himself or...
Tricky to listen ro and judge with 2026 ears, it did of course sound very basic. Not without its decent bits, and was a quick and easy listen. Also feel there's better from this era and genre.
Pretty good but had to make my own playlist on YouTube to listen to it
3/5
Short and sweet, great little early rock and roll album.
Easy listening and bluesy.
Konge.
Heeft me wel opgevrolijkt op de maandagochtend. Lekker kort ook.
Nice early rock and roll sound.
Bedre enn Jerry Lee Lewis.
Liker stilen. Liker de fleste sangene. Men blir litt meh
Cute, important
You have to be doing something right if your songs are still being played and recognised by people half a century after they have been released. Undoubtably Fats Domino was an incredibly talented writer and performer and has influenced many current musicians and styles. Does that mean that I would put this album into my heavy rotation playlist? Probably not. But I can still appreciate the talent shown here and am glad that I had the opportunity to listen to it. 2.500
Fun old timey sounding album with some upbeat songs that were fairly catchy
Fats Domino is one of the greatest rock 'n' roll artists of all time, though he's perhaps fallen out of the public consciousness a bit at this point. Whilst by today's standards, some of the songs (the last 4 in particular for me) fall a bit short, his energy is infectious and some of these tracks still hit just a strong today.
Parts of the origins of blues / rock. Not something I actively listened to but nice to have on in the background.
Jazz blues de black sympa sans plus
Average
The hits on here were good but rest kind of filler
Solid R&B.
Had to go to YouTube. Never listened to more than the hits.
The one and only Fats Domino!
Haven't heard of him before. It was fun! Too bad the album's so short 3/5
Good vibes classic sound I dig it
Pure comfort listening, short blues songs, Fats’ voice is like buttah.
Not available to listen to
Y, qué se yo. Simpaticón, ahre. Nota: 2.9
Sounds like a classic. I always enjoy older styles with this for the way the piano is at the front. The saxophone wasn't the cleanest.
Listened to this before going to see Sunn O)))
No estaba con muchas ganas de esto
Fine
Half the album isn't on spotify. Did Domino eat those songs?
couldn’t find this exact album, but i get the gist. i think Fats Domino is like if Count Basie was a pervert
Surprisingly not as catchy as I thought his music would be. Still a genre that's up my alley, but I feel like he probably did more with his talents later.
Wish I could find the rest of the album to listen to. Most places lock out half of the track list.
Fats > Chubby
Sorry Fats.
Couldn’t find album but artist had great songs.
Old R&B music never hurts
3 - super fun, so quintessentially what it is. Background music 2x through, so didn't find favs
Honestly it's quite difficult to me sit here 70 years after recording and give a balanced opinion. Obviously fundamental to the creation of Rock n Roll, but it's hard to separate in my ears. Probably a 7 but....
The song Blueberry Hill is great, but the rest of the album is pretty standard early R&B. There are a lot of entertainers from that era that could blow you away, but this is a pillow fight in a mattress factory.
Much of the music from this period of time has this element of cheese and corniness that I don’t really love - happy that this album let that cheese to a reasonable (minimal) amount. Pleasant enough listen.
Fun stuff.
Very catchy, I would have enjoyed this at the time. I'd appreciate hearing the instruments more, I think the beats were great and seeing it live was probably much better.
Come on, fellow listeners. Just because an album was released in the 1950s, doesn't automatically mean it was a legendary album. You all can deny it all you want, but you know it's true. Fats Domino was a musical legend, and had a great voice. However, this album fits in better as a kareoke playlist. Favorite Track: "Trust In Me".
Hyvin perus rock n rollia. Ei tuttuja kappaleita eikä sillein mitään sanottavaa. Parhaat: Ei erityismainintoja
Its very good not used to hearing this type of music but I like it I would listen to it again
It's Fats! This is fine.
blueberry hill.
Some boogie woogie, some swing. This entered my world through the TV show Happy Days in the 70s. Fats had a rollicking piano style and comforting tenor, and the songs were short, like sound bites. Memorable but not complex.
Solid 50s jazz. I enjoyed it.
a good portion of this album was not available on Spotify :(
I feel about this album the way I feel about penicillin which is that I don’t have anything interesting to say about it but I’m very glad it exists.
W porządku, niektóre piosenki można przesłuchać jeszcze raz
It's fine just doesn't interest me much
I can appreciate some good early popular blues but it's not something I enjoy listening to. This was exactly what I expected but not a kind of music that I would ever seek out.
Notables: - Troubles of My Own - Poor Me
Sometimes I wonder if my parents listened to these albums from the 50s and 60s when they were kids. I guess I could just ask them, but it’s more fun trying to imagine either sets of my grandparents putting a Fats Domino record on.
3.25 - This was an enjoyable listen. I was surprised by how many tracks I recognized.
Really nice A side! I'm glad I listened to this but it does suffer from a similar thing to other 50s albums like this where it is heavily inconsistent. But good fun and good .
Old R&B, nice.
Foundational. He has a great voice, and these tunes are well executed.
go fatty
must be sick being a drummer or pianist in Fats' band as you just play the same thing again and again. still good though
Good stuff from fats. Also seems like most of this album isn't on spotify so it ended up only being like 15 minutes long @vardaan
Ok not really my style but I’m sure someone else’s
Good.

Big donut of a voice, glimmers of rock n roll emanating from classic boogie woogie
What a classic this is
Shortest Album yet Going Back Home is great As is Nobody Loves Me. That classic piano-blues.
Domino is rock royalty but compilation albums are cheating.
I was already a big fan of Fats Domino's. I was excited to explore more of his catalog. I fell in love with Blueberry Hill while I was listening to A History of Rock Music in 500 Songs. I think I already knew my favorite Fats Domino song going into this but I'm pleased to have rounded it out.
Not sure if this captures a specific Fats Domino moment in time or just a general Fats Domino vide. A song like Blueberry Hill is too slow for Rock n Roll and sounds like sentimental crooning. I'm Walkin' (not on this) is more of a thumping rocker.
Lemme hug em
good rock'n roll abum
I doubt I’ll ever listen to it again, but I’m glad I’ve listened to it once. I wish more people still made album covers like this.
This was pretty hard to find but this album was another one where I felt that the listening experience would be so much better if it was live. I really feel like the spirit of jazz dies when it is recorded and relistened to, because the spontaneity is what makes jazz jazz. That being said, some good songs to integrate to.
Okay yeah I was wondering why this album was so short, it probably would've been way better if I had the whole listening experience. Still, I liked what I heard and I felt like the album had a lot of personality.
myeh
A shame not all of the songs were on Spotify, but otherwise enjoyable
Never listened to a full Fats Domino album before. This is going to Spotify as a compilation, so guess that’s the most complete version of this album. This is fun. Just easy to lost in. Old school rock and roll blues that would probably be called oldies these days. Never unhappy with something like this playing. Blue Monday and So Long give you the old school blues vibe but with the rocking band behind. Feels timeless as a sound, yet somehow dated too. Not sure how to explain. Overall, this is fun. Not sure I would choose to specifically put on this collection of Fats Domino songs, but wouldn’t mind shuffling some of these into a playlist.
not my cup of tea - a couple of songs were enough
Not bad. Just not my thing but Ain’t it a shame was the crowing jewel on that album
probably great if you like this kind of music i won't deny that
Favorite Song: Blueberry Hill
peak jazz album
sympathique
Great 50s duwop
Ain't that a shame is a great song. I also really like that most of these songs are clocking in at under 3 minutes, truly I think this is a great length for that type of song. That being said most these songs sound the same to me, and this feels like homework, but homework I kind of enjoy.
Blue Monday och So long är några höjdpunkter.
I enjoyed this more than I expected. Fun stuff
An important collection of songs, but one I feel I don't need to listen to again.
sempre carino sto genere
An improvement for sure, fun songs!
This was quite pleasant to listen to
Was a nice listening, I enjoy the album. I think the voice is unique and interesting 3/5
Excellent
Another hard one to find. Also a bit confusing as it seems there are multiple albums with similar names, but luckily someone completing this journey put together a YouTube playlist: https://youtube.com/playlist?list=PLowQCq3Ss89h_zdP0-wIycRkVk-nAh6i9&si=bxBwlFUcsPlB6FYG As for the actual listening experience, it was fine. I appreciate Fat Domino’s influence on modern rock and roll and I enjoyed listening to this album, but am I going to revisit it ever? Probably not.
Undoubtedly a classic artist. More fitting for background music than active listening. Fairly boring, but better than most the stuff that is coming out today.
Six of these songs were unavailable, they've had 60 years to sort out any licensing issues... It was good, I enjoyed it but maybe the best songs were greyed out for me?
This album was not on Spotify. I listened to a healthy dose of other Fats- including some of the songs on the album. Very solid!
1957.
The book makes it unclear whether they wanted to include Fats' 1956 debut This Is Fats Domino! or its follow-up simply titled This Is Fats. The title and tracklist on the book point to the former, while the artwork and release year point to the latter. Either way, both albums provide the same pretty good dose of old-school R&B, with Fats' big charismatic presence and fun songs. You can't go wrong with either one. Key tracks (for This Is Fats Domino!): Blueberry Hill Blue Monday Key tracks (for This Is Fats): The Rooster
soothing, nice to have on in the background
Bien
Fats domino has a dynamic style that is influential to rock n roll and modern rock. I enjoyed the bops on this album. Honey chile went kinda crazy ngl.
A pleasant little listen. This is all stuff I was already familiar with, I mean, isn't everyone? I think it's just floating around in the universe and infiltrates everyone's brain along the way. It is music that makes me smile, it's uplifting, it's part of the natural order of things.
too aged to me
Listening session: february 23rd, while sitting in the train Listened to before: no Thoughts: undeniably a classic and it must have been really influential at the time but it’s not the type of music I’d listen to on a daily basis Favourite tracks: Blueberry Hill & Blue Monday
Maybe kaufen
On one hand, This Is Fats Domino! is a record that has not aged particularly well. Even recordings of the big hits that have been remastered countless time have pretty rough sound quality, let alone the deep cuts that nobody has given the time of day. The formula is pretty restrictive and a lot of the songs start to blend into one another. On the other hand, I can't help but love Fats Domino. He is a pure soul who made some of the most nostalgic and touching Rock & Roll music out there. I could genuinely listen to Blueberry Hill 5 times a day for the rest of my life and never get sick of it. Like many early Rock & Rollers though, the album format just does not play to Fats' strengths. There's a reason you can't even find these albums on streaming anymore; the tracks survive through "complete collection" archival compilations that put Blueberry Hill and Blue Monday at the top and bury the rest about 60 tracks down. The record is a product of its time and circumstances, which is not necessarily a bad thing, but my impression of it doesn't reflect the love I have for Fats Domino as a whole.
I can see how this would be an important album in terms of rock & roll and rhythm & blues, but was slightly all over the place and did also just merge into one - nothing particularly memorable but I do think kinda an important listen
This was lovely mood music for me, very emotive, wonderful to hear while relaxing with a coffee, I love his voice so would have liked to have heard him sing As Time Goes By but that’s a minor issue.
Liked it! What a groove!
Quite good, enjoyed the instrumentals on some of the songs. Great singing voice.
alternative name ideas: Sings Well, Sounds Good, Cool Guy…
I can definitely see why he’s regarded as one of the greats. Not sure how often I’ll return to this but it was a fun listen.
Could not find this album on Spotify. Good music though.
I liked it. I would'nt listen to it on my daily basis, but it's good.
Cool stuff and fun to listen to but wouldn’t listen to it in my own.
Fats domino Du bisch e lustige cheib, machsch biz happy saloon chill musik. I like, zumindest kind of. Aber für 4 langeds glaubs ganz knapp nööd
still can't get over the fact that the name Chubby Checker is a Fats Domino joke.
Its fine, personally i would not play this on my own time but i would play it maybe while i’m studying. I prefer other jazz artists and songs but i appreciate this one as well. Favs: Blueberry Hill, So Long.
It is what it is
Sounds ancient but respect.
Nice voice, cool to hear early recording techniques.
Good stuff, nice production, quite samey
One of Granny Franny’s favorites. I videod myself doing karaoke to Blueberry Hill for her 100th birthday celebration. Pretty enjoyable all around.
I never agree when we get a compilation album on here so I can't rate it higher than 3. That said, thisbis the definition of a pleasant 30 minute listen.
Enjoyed half of it then spotify wouldnt play the rest ??
I enjoyed the musical education in this one, a foundational album for rock & roll. I enjoyed Blueberry Hill. I appreciate it, it's just not my taste
I see how this is foundational, but I didn't love listening to it.
3/5 https://rateyourmusic.com/release/album/fats-domino/this-is-fats-domino/ Yea not bad, probably very influential way back when. Now, though, it’s just okay. Also, annoyingly not on streaming, so had to gather the songs from the abundance of compilation albums that are.
Not a lot to criticize here from Mr. Fats. “Blueberry Hill” and “Blue Monday” being the standout tracks. We’re not breaking ground her, but more so perfecting the pre-60s R&B/Rock’n’Roll sound. It’s a fun, easy quick listen that not many people could complain about.
I had Troubles of My Own finding this album. Poor Poor Me.
Cool listen and he has such a classic early rock n roll sound. I grew up on a heavy diet of classic 50's, 60's and 70's so knew a lot of these well. Randy & Spiff on Fox97 "Good Times, Great Oldies" haha. Some generational bangers but wasn't an all timer.
I get it’s the foundation of rock-n-roll, but it just didn’t quite hit me. It’s not bad, just not my thing.
liked ittt
A foundational rock n roller singer with a name and personality to match.
3.0
a lil something to snap along to
I can see it appreaciated by some people. However, I find it better for background music.
- IT WAS REALLY good. It felt exactly what you needed it to be i love how every song changed from the previous while still being tied to the album as a whole.
50s rock and roll Holds up today
Pretty fun set of oldies!
I thoroughly enjoyed it. Great 7/10
Good but the best song is Blueberry Hill. Enjoyable to listen to.
La la la la la la la la la
Fat fucking dominoes Great stuff mang
*Classic rock and roll- love the historical significance
7.5/10 A record where the historical importance is impossible to ignore. You can clearly hear the blueprint for early rock ’n’ roll and pop- rolling piano lines, easygoing swing, and melodies that shaped decades of music after it. That said, the age shows: the sound is dated, and across the tracklist the songs blend together a bit, sticking closely to the same formula. Still, even when it feels samey, the charm and influence carry it. this is foundational stuff, and it earns its place because of that.
Ritmo bello, esa colección de canciones me transportó a vida pasada
That was a fun album, but it was really just a collection of songs. Nothing cohesive about this other than it has the same singer.
Cracking little album.
Sometimes Apple Music doesn't have an album in this project and I have to go find it elsewhere. This was one such album. And it wasn't even easy to find on YouTube, but fortunately someone (maybe the project creator?) had created a playlist out of individual songs that appears to be correct. Fats Domino's historical importance is obvious and undeniable, but I find his story more interesting than his music. I learned it while listening to the podcast "The History of Rock Music in 500 Songs." That episode (including transcript) is here: https://500songs.com/podcast/the-fat-man-by-fats-domino/ This would get a 4 for historical significance, but the listening experience for me was more like a 2.5.
I couldn’t find this specific album but this came from the same timeframe. The roots of rock n roll! Good, but a bit of repetition across the tracks, but still fun to hear the origins of what was to come.
So far, this has been the hardest album to listen to, physically, just because it isn't anywhere for some reason. It's not on Spotify, and a different, similarly named album is all I can find on Youtube. Shout-out to a certain Spotify user for frankensteining this album back together from best of compilations, you're my hero. But how's the album? It's pretty good. This is one of the better really early Rock n Roll albums I've heard. While this doesn't have the raw energy of someone like Little Richard, the strength of the songs here makes up for it, and Fats Domino is still a very charismatic presence on these songs. There's some R&B and jazz flavor here and the songs are brief, catchy, and enjoyable. I still don't think I'll be coming back here a ton, but Fats Domino's music is kind of a blast while it's on.
Decent. All sounds bit like Blueberry Hill
First couple of songs had me imagining how it must've been to be alive, even young, during the release of this music. Then I sort of lost a bit of focus throughout. It does get a bit repetitive. Did still like it overall though
362/1089 - Nothing special. Standard competent older blues and rock album.
Best Track - "Blueberry Hill"
Fats is a solid listen if you like 50's stuff at all. Stands above most of it. Good stuff.
I had no expectation going in, but Blueberry Hill does make a nice start. This is one of those I may have to give some extra points for historic significance because the music itself is pretty generic by modern standards. Looking at a 3,5 probably going to 3?
I know these songs.. I like Blue Monday most of all!
This is classic but slow compared to today music
Fun
I like this!! Love a bit of saxaphone and his voice is beautiful
Very cozy music!
perfect for my sundays playlist for sure
Classic sound, good compilation
Yes
I really like Fats Domino but if we’re choosing a compilation album from him, there are better more complete compilations of his discography that include some more songs that I love.
Yeah, liked it. Couple of classics omn there like Blueberry Hill and Blue Monday that I vaguely knew, and some other nice tracks on here.
Like working at Happy Harry’s all over again
Yep, the foundations of rock 'n roll right here. Might be worth a listen if you appreciate music history.
I like a good 12 bar blues. But a whole album gets a bit repetitive. But it is also very short. So it kinda balances out.
Vaguely interesting as a historical artifact. Many of the tracks were not available on Spotify so it was a very short listen.
Old school classics
Good voice and fun tunes. What more can I say? It was ok.
Usually quite sceptical of the oldies but very much enjoyed this. His voice is so warm
