Reviews (page 5 of 11)
Great album, I listened to it twice.
prety god, but not enough blues
Blueberry Hill is really good. Goin' Home reminds me of my ex wife. Solid album, overall I give it a 8/10.
Hard to find each track. But all great
Not on spotify
It really is only 17 minutes long. As another reviewer said, Fats Domino is the tits.
Funky shit.
I have always enjoyed his music, it's catchy.
Fats Domino is a badass name and I liked his work. Simpsons: No (although he sounds like he could be a character, maybe a member of Fat Tony’s gang)
Listened a few times. Really enjoyed all of it but wasn’t blown away.
fantastically smoooth
Really very good.
I love that really old shit. It’s relaxing.
A classic
Now that's music.
Great listen and so short that there’s no reason to skip it. All of the songs have such a nice smooth vibe and never overstay their welcome. An easy, nice album!
Couldn’t find the album but picked out the songs and made a playlist.
Jazzy classic rock. Good driving music.
Short!
Nice and easy rock and roll/ R&B. Could listen to over and over. I like Blue Monday best I think. Only knew Blueberry hill.
This is genuinely fantastic. I mean, it's Fats Domino. I couldn't find the exact album, so I made a playlist from other compilations: https://music.apple.com/us/playlist/fats-domino-this-is-fats-domino-story-of-soul/pl.u-38oWZ6WC2Gk4y
Fats is one of the forgotten greats of rock and roll. A remnant of the past who if you asked a child today wouldn’t know but his influence is def there. 🥇Blueberry Hill 🥈You done me wrong 🥉 Ain’t that a shame
Sunday mornin' my head is bad But it's worth it for the time that I had But I've got to get my rest 'Cause Monday is a mess
Jazzy, and boy can this man sing. Great find!
When I lived in NOLA, I saw him perform at Jazz Fest, late 70s, early 80s? He put on a great show, and the crowd went nuts. He was a charismatic performer.
The 50s version of soft and corny is still a heck of a fun time, even if its deep cuts are a little too much on the silly side.
Sounds influential to standard Rock n Roll. some great songs especially Trust In Me which is noticiably wilder than the rest of the songs.
I was only able to listen to 8 songs on this 14 track album, so I listened to some additional Fats tracks. I enjoyed it all, but I'm not likely to seek this out very often, but it was overall very good.
Okay
<3
Super deep-voice casual vocal style, approachable and conversational but just slightly formal in the phrasing. Kinda simple funky in playing and arrangements, it’s a decent steady rockin’. Decent sax blowin' and piano rifflin’ and tinklin’, whoever it is. Feels pretty controlled and practiced. You see why he was so popular and also why he was excelled and improved upon.
This one is harder to rate just because you can't really rate it as an "album", since that conceptually didn't exist yet, really. It's a great collection of songs, although I was hoping we'd get the album with "The Fat Man". "Blueberry Hill" and "Blue Monday" go crazy every time. WE LOVE YOU FATS DOMINO!!!
Fun album! It's always a day for some classic rock'n'roll.
Short, sweet, simple. Best kind of music from this era. I prefer some other music from the 40s, 50s, early 60s that is similar, but I do like these songs. This collection of songs was only 18 minutes long, so it’s hard to hate or really love anything here — not that I would have hated it. I had known of Blueberry Hill and Blue Monday beforehand. Standouts: Blueberry Hill, What’s the Reason I’m Not Pleasing You, Blue Monday, Goin’ Home.
Great songs, vocals, music!
Really enjoyed it. An oddly short compilation, so went and listened to a bit more Fats, too. It's a 7 out of 10 but I'll be generous.
Loved it
This album was hard AF to find, and on Spotify it has missing tracks (in the UK, at least). Still, Fats Domino totally slams.
Solid album
17 minute album, incredibly short so difficult to make a strong opinion of. But those 17 minutes were good!
Oh damn, this is incredible. Cool and fun sounds from 70 years ago 🤯
Blues. Stories. Good listen
Good. Easily enjoyable. Some tracks stand out. Favorite track: Blue Monday
That was fun. 4/5
He's a great singer and this music just rills along. I like the new orleansy piano and vibe. For such an old album this is still a great listen.
way my folks music
classic
I had to struggle a bit to listen to this one properly. Spotify playlist link was only partial. Ended up finding a different playlist that was more complete but was missing The Fat Man's Hop. I ended up searching that one on YouTube as it wasn't available on Spotify, and that was the best track on the list! Anyway, glad I checked the Discogs page for the album to see the original track list and did the legwork to hear the whole thing. Anyway. as someone else said, what's up with putting a compilation album in a best albums list?!? That's a total cheat. A great collection of songs, of course, it's the greatest hits, duh! Thoroughly enjoyed it all. The Fat Man's Hop was a standout and was a bit different than the rest as an instrumental and real showcase of the musicianship. 5 stars for Fats but knocking the album as a best of collection.
Fats is a legend and his music is great. Enjoyed listening to this.
Listened to Fats Domino Swings instead, this album isn't on Spotify
Classic rock and roll from the real King (according to Elvis)
Phat!! 4.5
I can dig it. A couple songs missing on Spotify unfortunately. Great vocals and solid instrumentals behind him. 7.25/10 (3.625/5)
In an era where they didn’t really do albums, just the artist’s latest hit or two packaged up with absolute dross, this album holds together surprisingly well. This is doubly surprising since it was culled from multiple recording sessions over several years. Nice to see Fats get his due on the 1001 albums list, as he was criminally underappreciated during his prime.
great!!!!
Nice haircut, nerd.
Super good
Not my thing but good
Enjoyed it. Nothing profound to say about it though.
An extremely fun album, featuring a powerful and commanding voice, accompanied by excellent arrangements. It's the kind of album that makes you nod your head from start to finish. There's not much else to say other than it's a highly entertaining and captivating experience.
awesome album very fun, easy listening
Great voice
Big fan.
Enjoyable, couldn’t find all of it though
Brought back memories. He has a very soothing voice and love his piano playing
Obviously it sounds outdated in 2024(-1 star), but for 50s my gosh, old school rock and roll. Half the album wasn't available on Spotify, won't gonna give this album lower score. That was a suprise for me, i thought i would turn off after first song, but the whole album was just a one big journey in a good way. 4/5. Favourite song(s): fuck it, nearly all of them.
Plezier maken staat voorop. Aanstekelijk.
Ist halt ein Klassiker. Sehr gefällig zu hören.
That’s great ! Such a nice flow and voice. 4 stars.
Nostalgic. Reminds me of grandpa's house.
I enjoyed this album so much. This is the kind of music that sounds timeless. You could play it at a party right now and it would fit right in. Blueberry Hill is the only song I was familiar with but the rest is classic and lots of fun
Song: Blueberry Hill Just finding this album was a bit challenging, it wasn't available on the streaming service, but I found the individual songs. This song just had a really nice, chill, laid-back groove, and I love the bassline & sax. It definitely sounds very 50s, but not in a bad way—solid song, and one I would listen to again.
love this. listened to NOLA jazz all weekend
Fats Domino…. Der Beginn des Rock’n’Roll
Happy and good This is kind of great. I’m bopping
4/5 bardzo dobry początek rock and rolla
I grew up on this album, thanks to my dad. Listening to this will always remind me of him and childhood.
Classic stuff. Worth going back to classic rock, with some brass.
Bien
Fun to listen to. Very old school, honky tonk, American bar vibe.
Good
When, say, Jean-Michel Jarre's "Oxygène" came out, Domino's recording of "Blueberry Hill" was 20 years old. Autechre's debut had its 30th birthday last year. Always blows my mind. Anyways, Oldies but Goldies, huh? What can I say... 4/5
This was nice - probably would have appreciated it more had it come after something good, weirdly. It's clearly a big turning point in the history of music, that shift towards rock and roll whilst retaining a decent chunk of the R&B sound of the 50s. Blueberry Hill is the highlight, but there's not really much in the way of weakness on the album. It's probably a 5 in 1957, but given everything that's come after it and how tastes have changed it drops down to a low 4 for me.
This was a complication of some songs by Fats Domino, I believe he was a Blues artist back in the 50s, and I haven’t heard many blues artist but this was amazing, really made me do the Patrick Bateman face on a lot of the songs, I wrote him down as someone I want to listen to more, but overall this was an amazing album.
Favourite tracks: you done me wrong; honey Chile; blueberry hill
•Not owned: Streaming •For a collection of singles (common for “albums” of that time) it doesn’t get too homogenous. Production is pretty good, given its time—care was put in on a couple of tracks to highlight the guitarist as well. •4/5
Again, not my genre but I get why people might like it.
i love fats domino and think this was a lovely album and he’s a great singer, i’ve heard it before and blueberry hill is definitely in my top 100 songs kind of thing.
Fats is a classic - fast piano with early rock and a blues-y voice. Just a lot of fun.
An important album to be sure. Glad I listened to this one.
This album made me so happy, and Fats Domino needs to be celebrated more.
Full Fats Rock n Roll!!
Great music, but why is there a compilation album in this list?
Unfortunately not all available on Spotify, what was available is fantastic. A great mixture of Blues, Big Band and Jazz.
Enjoyable and old school. 4/5
I think soul music takes you back to when it was written. Sometimes I try to imagine the sound quality being even worse played through the radio of an old Cadillac in 1959 late at night. Really relaxing and enjoyable music for sure. Blueberry Hill is my favorite for sure. Blue Monday is also very nice.
Good but half the album was missing
This was a difficult album to review. Half of it is missing from my main streaming platform. I eventually found it mislabeled as a later album with a different name.
Fats is always a fun time.
lekkere swingers van Fats Domino!
вновь альбома целиком нет на спотике. НО, музыка очень задорная) такой качественный, музыкальный, гармоничный рок н ролл. Снимаю балл за вокал, мне местами тяжеловато, но с музыкальной точки зрения - бомба
I really grooved to this! Not something I'd listen to every day but it was a lot of fun. Also cool reading and learning about Fats Domino.
Melhor do que eu esperava!
Fun music. I love the exposure to this stuff. I found some of it a little bit less good overall and I think this is a compilation on Spotify? I don’t know if it links to the right place but overall decent and enjoyable. Would listen to it on a nostalgic night with a scotch
The reason I signed up for this, to listen to things that would never normally cross my radar. Can’t help but feel good listening to these tunes, although a compilation definitely feels like cheating!
Listened to about half, but enjoyed it
What a blast! A catchy album full of hits that have aged surprisingly well.
Old school, enjoy the instruments
Only songs I recognized were Blueberry Hill. A lot of the songs on this album weren’t available on Spotify. So I listened to some of his other songs. But still nice to listen to on a Saturday morning.
Bouh !
Yeah, this is 50's music alright! That's not damning praise, but it is pretty much exactly what you're expecting! That said, Fats is legendary for a reason. He did what he did well, and this is him at the top of his game, with his biggest hit "Blueberry Hill" opening this collection. A short, enjoyable, breezy listen.
Had me twistin and groovin! It was also a crazy coincidence that I put on a Fats song (“ain’t it a shame”)in the morning then proceeded to see that this was the album of the day!
great album ... 4 stars
Blues, Rock'n'roll, Saxophones, Fats Domino ripping the keys *chef's kiss*
8.2 Fantastic talent.
Today I discovered the album names for Fats Domino: This is Fats Domino! …A Lot of Dominos! Fats Is Back! Fats The Fat Man The 50's were a simpler time. 3.5./5
Very nostalgic and reminiscent of a time well before I was born. Very iconic songs and sound.
Short but sweet.
loved it... we studies this in school.
who am into criticize fats domino? but if i’m honest, although it’s flawless in construction and execution, like a lot of pop music of the era it seems a little fake
Not sure I hit all the tracks as I couldn’t find the exact album, but I did listen to quite a bit of Fats Domino and really enjoyed it. Truly typesetting early rock and roll.
Some songs were not available, good vibes tho
We wouldn’t be where we are now without it
Very bluesy and passionate
3.5 some good songs but not the best from Fats Domino imo.
Very fun. Had me tapping my foot and wanting to get up and move, quite few times. Enjoyed listening to it.
It took a while to find this album on YouTube, but eventually I tracked it down. What amazing music! It was a pleasure to listen to one of Rock n' Roll's original artists.
Yeah natural talent
This was difficult to track down. I enjoyed it, it's a whisper of what is to come musically
Amazing voice! The music was nice, but seemed to have simple progressions.
nice)
Blue Mondayy Blueberry Hill son dos grandes temas
Unfortunately only part of the album was available on Spotify, but I enjoyed what I was able to hear.
Nice old fashioned rock
Really solid classic rock n roll. In the current time it sounds old. In the 50s it would be 5/5
Classic '50s rock & roll. Good stuff.
Fats Domino was a rock n roll pioneer. Good stuff.
Fats Domino. Classic rock. gotta love it.
Fikk ikke høre alt pga spotify men chill
4.25
Couldn’t find this exact album on Spotify, so I listened to “Fats Domino Swings” and enjoyed it quite a lot. In particular loved “Ain’t That A Shame.”
Really enjoyable listen. Bluesy with some rock, great voice
Historic
Fats is one of the more important early rock icons who frequently gets sidelined by discussions of his contemporaries. It’s a real shame when Elvis himself calls you the “real king of rock n roll”, and people dismiss that.
Listen to Fats if you want the skinny on rock and roll’s real, non-whitewashed history.
Do you think he chose that name or
The New Orleans parent of Rock and Roll. Just like his comrades in Memphis and Chicago, Fats Domino's take on 'local music' with a twist becomes on of the building blocks of the music that will change the world. He doesn't have as many 'instant hits' on his debut as Little Richard or Elvis, and so on but Fats Domino's boogie boogie rag-time rock and roll innovations are still as much a part of American music today. 4.5/5.
a mighty fine comp from one of rock n roll’s pioneers 😎 tickle then thangs fat boii
Good, but not blown away. Hard to compare some of the older albums because they formed so much of what came later.
Actually not bad kinda a jam. Not something I would normally listen to but still pretty good.
Fats Domino is very good band. Yes, very good. Much fun.
This is a four, for Blueberry Hill alone.
It wasn't awful: I have to admit I had this whole album on in the background whilst I was doing other tasks but you can't blame me bc it was one youtube (awful excuse). It didn't sound awful but there was nothing memorable with the album and all sounded like one massive song. Although this may be so, I cannot argue that I didn't enjoy what I heard but it just didn't quite hit the spot.
Classic. Tons of fun to revisit.
Catchy and relaxing
tracks 7-12 aren't available on spotify
Lots of classics, should be in any well rounded collection.
This record was massively difficult to stream but definitely worth the trouble. I usually use Tidal but has to listen on YouTube(link here) https://youtube.com/playlist?list=PL01NBH7ivWKKFToVmAqXmMSzncoFupznd
Jolly romp
I like it a lot but don't love it. Musically I think it's a bit simple which is okay but it seems to come at a time when rock n roll was quite new so it's like looking at a blackberry while you're carrying the newest phone in your pocket. Seeing those early parallels is cool though
Loved it. Been a fan of Fats for a long time.
I can’t tell if I actually listened to the correct album but as a legend and one of the Founding Fathers of rock and roll, is it possible to not like dislike Fats Domino? I think not. 4/5
Very Happys Days
Rock & roll del viejo. Me ha gustado. Un 4.
Yep. Old timey rock and roll.
Shame that the second half of the album is missing on Spotify
One of the all time greats
Very classic fun
It's surely a criminal offense to give this anything less than a 4. Fats Domino somehow doesn't get the credit for being such an early pioneer of rock music. Elvis himself called Fats the real king of rock and roll. Yet Fats is impossibly underrated. The only thing keeping this from being branded a 5 is that it's not an album per se as much as it's a compilation. But it's important to remember that albums were like that for the most part until Pet Sounds and Sgt. Pepper. Plus Fats was mainly a singles artist. But Christ, what a singles artist.
Pretty fun to listen to
Classic rock and roll. Still love hearing this music. Great musicianship, good voice, and has a nice unassuming yet quiet confidence to it. It knows exactly what it is and it does it well. 4/5
I had heard his hits, but listening to this closer, and thinking about when it came out, wow. Impressive. Although not on this album, I also checked out "The Fat Man". Hard to argue that's not a rock song, and it came out in 1949. In general, I would call this more of a hybrid between big band and rock. Interesting to see the transition. And great music. I'm giving this a four, however, because it's a compilation. Those are, by definition, going to be better than a typical album, so I'm offsetting that. That's not 100% fair, since when this came out, albums weren't really much of a thing, but I'm approaching this project as a review of albums, not singles, and not artists.
Love Fats
Really enjoyable, "swinging" music, feels like listening to the birth of Rock
Pretty fun. Definitely iconic
Loved it. More jazz please.
Took me a bit ro get into it and then by "trust me" I was bopping. This era started rock n roll and modern music, the inventive new sounds are important... And there is walking blues and jazz and swing and everything mixed in. I didn't realise his single FatMan is considered by some as the first ever rock n roll singles. or that he sold 100 million albums. It almost got boring until I read about the origins of rock n roll on wikipedia and the then it came to sounds that defined it . I wonder if the others like Sister Rosetta Tharpe get it... But so many were singles and not albums back then....
Listening to an early Fats Domino album is like attending a history lecture. Fats was steeped in music that was so influential to the growth of rock’n’roll, &, indeed, popular music. This album features two classics - Blueberry Hill & Blue Monday (puts Geldof’s Monday tune in the shade). It’s a great listen, if a little samey, but the beauty is in the brevity - a dozen songs clocking in at around 27 minutes - you don’t have time to get bored.
Good Music just not my vibe
Spotify didn't have the full thing which was disappointing as hell but everything it had was hit after hit. Super fun!
Great album, you can clearly see the foundations of blues and it does it so well. One of my more preferable genres
A great classic collection of rock and roll songs, it was a fun listen. 4 5/5.
Pretty, pretty, pretty, pretty, pretty good.
Fats Domino was one of the great ‘50s artists and this shows it. Classic older music that really encapsulates the sound of the era in a very enjoyable form.
Classic rock n roll/blues bangers. Love a wee oldie.
Ridiculously talented, you can clearly hear the impact Domino had on rock and roll. That voice, that playing, popular music would be immeasurably different without him.
I couldn’t find this exact album anywhere but played a load of Fats’ songs and love em to bits.
Piano nervoso, muito sopro, forma blues com pegada rock dos anos 50, comportado. arranjos bem montados, com algumas baladas mas bastante coisa dançante.
Very nice early soul/rock'n'roll album. Sounds great
Rock & roll del viejo. Me ha gustado. Un 4.
8/10 - Couldn't listen to half the album but what i heard was good
Classic Rock and Roll. He was one of the first, and one of the best.
4.5, can confirm, was born to honk and tonk
Honky TONK
Iconic singer, Blueberry Hill the obvious hit from the album
Rounding up to 4 due to Fats Domino's influence on rock & roll.
Great
Ok
noh 50 luku musta pekka... ei voi liikaa valittaa että 2min biisuja... pakko sihne, RADION , RADION KUNNIAAN JA MAINEESEEN PÄÄSTÄ...heh... ok aika vitun tärkeä henkilö josta en ennen ole kuullut hmm...Uusi musiikkityyli rinnastettiin ”alkuasukasrumpujen pärinään viidakon yöllisissä menoissa”. Se yhdistettiin nuorisorikollisuuteen tai luettiin mielisairauksien piiriin. AUDOFIILI ALERT!!!!! 1957 ALBUM HUONO RECORDING!!!! HÄÄÄH????? Blueberry Hill
Just lovely.
This isn't my normal style of music, but I can tell why Fats is legendary. In the music, most of the instruments feels like they have their moment to shine. Fats' voice is very inviting and warm, leading you along an easy and fun listen. Chicago jazz and blues in the 50's and 60's was definitely a defining time for music, and Fats was no small part of that. His piano playing just tops it all off too. Favorite Tracks: Blueberry Hill, So Long, La La
Fats sounds great! This is a great album to reset and come back to ground on core rock and roll sound. The relentless blues changes sort of start to grate on me after a while but thats the blues.
Great blues songs and playing, classic music
Sing it, Fats! I like it. You get a fun, swinging good time. Fun, happy-go-lucky songs about love and life that don't take themselves too seriously. Even the "boo hoo, my woman is giving me troubles" kind of songs are somehow upbeat or triumphant instead of sad. He just seems like he was a fun dude in general and that comes through in his vocals.
Very short album but incredible music and what a voice. Brilliant.
Classic Rythm and Blues album
I like rock ‘n roll
Fantastic, swinging, rocking music from one of the giants of rock'n'roll. Every track is two or three minutes of fine, focused and groovy dance music, delivered with that great, deep voice. Blueberry Hill is rightly the standout track but they are all good
25th November 2022 Listened while going round Tesco getting bits in for Caroline, Ian and the girls to come and stay. Classic rock and roll, Fats has such a rich voice making him stand out in a crowded field.
Who doesn’t love The Fat Man?!
Many classics that I had no idea were Fats Domino. Good to put a face to a sound.
What a fantastic short and sweet blues rock n roll album. Really enjoyed almost every song. Felt like I should have been listening to it in a smoke filled bar wearing a fedora. Highlights were "Blue Monday", "Reeling and Rocking" and "Blueberry Hill".
I enjoyed this a lot.
The album this linked to on Spotify has half of it marked as Unplayable for some reason, but I dug around a bit and found a playlist of the correct tracks someone had made. I'm glad I did, this is a great album! New to me, but I recognised a few songs and new of the artist. Not something I'd listen to often, but miles better than that Elvis shite I got a few weeks back!
Unfortunately not all of the tracks are available on Spotify. Cheery and joyful album! Liked it :) Saved tracks: Honey Chile, Blue Monday, La La
It rocks.. it rolls.. it's Fats.. it's great
This type of music just always makes me happy. Fats has such a clear tone of voice and he makes it sound effortless
What an awesome voice. Not all songs were available but the ones that were I really enjoyed. 3.5 but rounds up to 4.
Very good
Great listen.
A pleasant pioneering album, with some classic tracks and a solid, fun listen. It's not the most memorable, and also one of the hardest to find to listen to in 2022, but well worth the hunt.
Great blues singing. Fav tracks Blueberry Hill, Blue Monday - 4/5
This album is simplistic in the best way. It's very of it's time. It gives you weird nostalgia for the 50s even if you weren't alive then. Fats was great and very formative to the genre that became Rock & Roll and this belongs on the list even if it isn't as complex as later rock.
Couldn't find this album on Spotify, so listened to "Fats" Relaxed, bluesy, fun
This is a blueprint, a template, a guide book, a whole damned education in what Rock and Roll (emphasis on the Roll) should sound like
Fats is a good band leader-style artist. His voice is distinctive. This is pop-style blues here. I'm not sure I feel the soul of the music, but it's still good stuff. For those struggling to find the album, here is a link: https://youtu.be/pFlvEdcypxU
Addictive. Not really what I would choose to listen to, butI still played it back to back 5 times. Great stuff.
Couldn’t get all songs from Spotify
Fats Domino was playing rock n roll before anyone knew what rock n roll was and he said as much. He is a pioneer of the genre who did not get the respect he deserved though he was well respected by his contemporaries such as Elvis. This album is great as a piece of history, though it is clearly dated at this point. It's a bridge between the black R&B of the 1940s and early 1950 and rock n roll as a popular genre
First time listening to fats domino, only knew him by name. Great songs, short but all very happy. Favourite songs: - blueberry hill - blue monday - so long
This is an album of classics
As a note, Spotify had half of this album restricted in Australia, so I had to make a playlist of it using other albums of his. • He has a fantastic voice that I think would suit any song • The songs all have very happy sounds • I don’t think there are any songs that are significantly better than the rest, it’s just a very good album altogether. However, I think the first impression Blueberry Hill made was great. Favourite song: Blueberry Hill
Classic 50s Jukebox
While that name conjures an image of a pizza movie night for me, I know he's great considering how he made a Spotify playlist for himself in the '50s. Not to mention that the half-hour jam is composed of songs with freaking "la la" and "oh oh oh ooh" as choruses. Pure bluesy good vibe energy here. I loved it.
j'ai vraiment aimé, voix juste et bonne instrumentation
YEAHHHHH I LOVE FATS! The whole thing is not on Spotify, might look up later. I found it good shit.
Super hard to find album, ended up cobbling together based on the track listing on Wikipedia. Lots of fun regardless!
Yeah man. What a voice!
Thanks to Hollywood, I just assume that the songs on this album are what the 1950s sounded like. Not bad, if true. Not bad at all.
Half the album is unavailable on Spotify :| besides that though, I really love the sound. It’s impossible to be unhappy while listening to his music. 7/10
Pretty great
One of the old rock n roll classics on this list but I feel like some of the performances were a little lacking compared to, say, Little Richard. 7/10
toe tappin
p28. 1956. 4 stars. Feel-good primitive rock'n'roll that still sounds fresh today. Great sound, great production, great voice. The only thing missing is the same sense of excitement you get from a Little Richard or Jerry Lee Lewis track.
This is a great listen, but it's the only Fats album on the list, and it's not his best one. They should have included Rock and Rollin' with Fats Domino. Best track: Blueberry Hill
Who said the oldies can’t rock 💃🕺🧓🏼👴🏻
Detta är bra.
Again one of these where, what am I going to say about this most classical of classic rock? So I’ll just ponder again the oddity of selection on the YT Music - all of the songs in question were easily found, but the “album” per se was not, I had to cobble a playlist together from compilations.
I really dig it
Yes.
Das antiga, empolgante
The album was pretty good. Relatively short. I am familiar with Fats Domino so I knew what to expect. I did not want to skip any of the songs. I cannot pick one song and say definitely listen to this but all were pretty good. I will round up.
I didn't listen to the album recommended to me. Instead, I listened to a Greatest Hits compilation called Walking to New Orleans, which includes the majority of the songs from this album. Going through the record, you can sense and hear the self-proclaimed Fat Man's influence on what would eventually be rock and roll. Despite the majority of the songs containing a set formula, that formula is consistent and gives off an aura of genuine greatness throughout; thus that can give the listener a song or two from his catalog to cherish. Favorites: The Fat Man, Going to the River, Please Don't Leave Me, Ain't That a Shame, I Can't Go On (Rosalie), Don't Blame It on Me, Blue Monday, I'm Walkin', I Want to Walk You Home, I'm Gonna Be a Wheel Someday, Walking to New Orleans.
Love some deep origins rock and roll. Fats can really cook. You also have to give the man credit for calling himself "Fats" I never tire of this kind of thing.
3.5
This kind of thing is the reason for my use of this site. It's hard to analyze these pioneering musical works, so I'll just remark that this is something that I'll surely listen to again in the future.
delicinha de album
Wow. Solid album, great voice, mellow and energizing energy at the same time. Soulful. Fun. More than a little blues-y. Not an indefinitely replayable album for me but excellent nonetheless. Fave track: Honey Chile. Classic in the BEST way.
Smooth jams, daddio
Rating: 7/10 Best songs: Blueberry hill, Mardi gras
Nothing bad to say about this album except that it wasn't Spotify. Still fun to listen to though
Fats Domino was a referent of the golden years of Rock'n'Roll. "Blueberry Hill" is a great song.
2/3/2022 Today's Album: "This is Fats Domino" by Fats Domino - This album is a blessing to my ears compared to the last one. These are a collection of 1950s blues tracks by Fats Domino and each of these tunes are surprisingly unique compared to most of the music that was creating blues melodies like this in the 50s and 60s. Whatever mic they recorded his voice with is excellent because his vocals absolutely shine through the mix. Theres some great solos and buildups throughout the record as well. Blue Monday stands out as a very full and soulful tracks. This sounds a lot like the Ray Charles record, but it came out a few years prior and is just very rich sounding. La La is simple but just shows how such a simple concept can be made a really fun 2 minute track. It's obviously a very creative person appealing to the tastes of music listeners at the time, so its a lot of very danceable tracks. Overall, an essential listen. Classic, yet unique tracks that are great to have in the background or foreground. Score: 8 Great Highlights: Blueberry Hill, Blue Monday, You Done Me Wrong, Reeling And Rocking
A great compilation of some of hits that you’ve heard over the years. A look back at some classics we’re very familiar with. Pretty good from start to finish.
A little treasure of early rock n roll! A joy from start to finish. Can’t help but smile at this (even through some dodgy lyrics that have not aged well). What a brilliant pianist.
Great mix of R&B songs and instrumentals.
4 stars
This was great.
110. This is Fats Domino - Fats Domino 14 tracks. Longest track on album is 2:22 He really kept em short and sweet so I will too. Enjoyed this. 4/5
What a classic! Fats sure could play the piano!!!
Hmmmmmm. Classic sound/fun, but obviously not something I would listen to randomly. Might be fun background party music.
Classic rock n roll. Songs still sound great today.
Classic 50s rock n roll
Not for me but very good otherwise
Blueberry Hill - Venice Feel Vibes and pretty short
I listened to this album a few times because I wasn't sure what was so special about it. Fats was a big deal and he had some massive hits (Blueberry Hill is a classic). His voice is excellent (it gets stuck in your head) and his backing band is great too (his piano work is also very good). Take a song like La La, it's mostly those words plus his band (and his piano solo, which rocks) and it's great. Is that enough for this to be 4+ stars? The album is full of solid but perhaps unspectacular songs. Easy to like, but are you going to gush over it? Tough call; I started at a 3 but after a few listens it kept creeping up.
This album makes me want to go to the Reservoir Lounge. Well to New Orleans really but The Res is much closer. To see how important Fats was, one needs only to look at the artists that covered him. The list includes those who changed music in a significant and positive way including John Lennon. His rolling piano (B Berry Hill being a great example) is classic and his voice is also excellent. This album is quite good but I'm not sure why this album was picked for 1001. It's a compilation which is probably the right way to go with an artist like FD but could they not find a compilation or live album that had more of his popular songs like The Fat Man, Ain't that a Shame and I'm Walking? The songs on the album are good but they don't include so many of the hits which I thought was the purpose of a compilation.
Short, sharp, fun and straight to the point
This Is Fats Domino! by Fats Domino (1957 [sic]) Reviewing this album is problematic in that its 1956 (not 1957) mono release (Imperial #LP-9028) consists of a particular selection of songs, mostly previously released as mono singles. There was a later ‘reissue’ (Liberty #LP-12389, 1969) with synthetic stereo effects and a spliced composite of “Blueberry Hill” (Wikipedia, “This Is Fats Domino!”). This Is Fats Domino! is not available as an album on Apple Music or Amazon, but it is cobbled together on a Spotify playlist of other recordings of these same songs (in stereo) helpfully compiled by Spotify user “Rice” (hat tip to you, Rice). The Spotify ‘album’ linked to the 1001 Album Generator (2020 version) only allows play of six of the twelve original tracks, unless you have Spotify Premium, and I’m not playing that game. This review will treat “Rice’s” stereo collection and order as the ‘album’. Shame on everyone for their irrational fear of mono—the recording technique that Fats Domino and Imperial Records actually (and unavoidably) employed for the first fifteen years of his career. ‘Monophobes’ are the kind of people who would prefer a ‘colorized’ version of the black & white parts of The Wizard of Oz. Fats Domino was a giant (no pun) in the history of rock and roll, which he preferred to call “rhythm and blues” (These terms would undergo change in the 1960s). He was hugely (again, no pun) influential for later rock artists from Elvis Presley to John Lennon to Robert Plant, and all who in turn followed them, so basically everybody. His voice is quite pleasing (“What’s the Reason [I’m Not Pleasing You]”), with its confident tone and Creole-spiced diction. It is perfect for mono single play on classic jukebox and AM radio, especially on warm summer evenings down south, where a cold drink, minimal clothing, a handy hanky, a single bare ceiling bulb, flypaper, and a window fan would complete the ambience. This music puts me there, and it’s a nice place to be. Put away the headphones; this is small-speaker music. Domino selects keys that are vocally comfortable for his somewhat limited range, which results in occasional sharps on the bottom tonic, but it’s okay in the mix when the tenor sax has its own pitch approximations on the sharp side. One gets used to it. The ten tracks written by Domino himself are nice, simple lyrical constructions—classic versifications of standard R&B poetic tropes. There’s some very nice solo lead guitar on the closing track “Trust In Me”, sadly marred by the following trio of saxophones that are not quite together tonally. Overall, while not quite rising to the status of a classic, this very fine collection of songs is a rewarding listening experience. 4/5
Classic stuff that still sounds great.
The music sounds really old, but still I feel like it has aged quite well. A few good songs here, good voice, chilled and pleasant music.
Listened to this kind of early rock n roll with my dad on road trips and around town in the car. Solid.
I'm kind of a sucker for this old-style R&B/Rock. It just feels so pure. I listened to "Fats Domino Swings" since the linked album didn't allow all the tracks in the US, I think it's the same album? It all is good-feel music to me, without being saccharin.
-A nice old school rock and roll album -"Honey Chile" is catchy
Man, I loved every song on this one. Each one just perfect, great energy, and aims to please. I liked this a lot!
On the one hand, it's pretty much variations upon a theme. On the other hand, it's a damn fine theme. The singing, the rolling piano, the overall feel of everything - I suppose it's the limitations of the era's production that I'm enjoying, but there's such a warmth and lushness to it - that I found this album quite irresistible.
Really liked this as background music when cooking, can imagine playing it more
Classic rock n roll, what's not to love. "Blueberry Hill" is era defining. Fave track - "La-La", or "Troubles of My Own" - they both have a backing rhythm that makes me think of a locomotive chugging away...
never listened to him before... really good
La parte del disco que estaba disponible en spotify me agradó, tiene buen ritmo, suena mucho al soundtrack usual que ponen películas y series para los 50. Todo bien, agradable, 8/10
Couldn't find album. Listened to fats best of.
Very early rock, rhythm and blues, pop. NIce simple but catchy arrangements with Fats Domino's signature voice leading the way. It's completely enjoyable and incredibly charming.
this wasnt on spotify- i used fats domino swings 1959 instead
I hadn't realised how many classic tracks were on this album.
What’s not to like here? The guy’s a legend and every song is super listenable even 60ish years later.
I’m disappointed that not all of this was on Spotify. I was really enjoying the sound of it.
In alcuni momenti mi sembrava di essere da Tiger, in altri a New Orleans. Molto carino
