Reviews (page 8 of 11)
It's fine. Classic, I guess. Not my style Would I listen again: No Deserves to be on this list: Yes 3.2
Always fun.
He certainly found his thrill.
King of Rock n Roll like Elvis said.
Again not my vibe - but I can respect that it’s good for the genre it’s representing. I wouldn’t listen again, but was easy listening all the same.
Couldn’t find the proper album so I listened to other works. Classic, but will only rate a 3 since I couldn’t listen to the right thing.
Yet another album from the 50's with every song being 12 bar blues. I'm not saying I hate it but cmon fellas, a little bit more variety would be nice
Pretty good. Old people music
The original album was issued in 1956 with 12 tracks (6 more than offered here) with the two bonus tracks added in 1957. I love Fats Domino, but this is kind of weak.
What a neat record. I love this style of soul and blues, capturing an era of Americana and truly representing its essence. Fats has such a fantastic voice and the complementary instrumentation is straight up cool. Not a record I’d listen to often, but fun to put on to reminisce about the days before I was born.
Very short but some nice blues. Don’t think I’d listen to again but it was still enjoyable. 5/10.
Fun but too short. Favorite track: blueberry hill. Overall score: 6.7/10.
This dude invented rock and roll, so that's cool.
Cool
didn't really listen - no time today - these sound so old and dated but I know they are part of the foundation - and some are still really great
Notable of course for the inclusion of Blueberry Hill. An early entry in to the rock cannon. Itself a cover of a song written almost decades earlier but brought to life in a new world. This song - and album - are a bridge between two worlds. You have the remnants of the jazz roots on RnR/R&B with the sax and piano playing the role that would soon give way to the guitar. Certainly a vital piece to the puzzle - the album is well recorded and a blast to listen to.
A Classic.
6/10
Не зацепило, обычный рокнрол
OK, mostly disabled so couldn't listen
It's good musicianship, I just don't love this era so much
Couldn't find this on spotify. I listened to the one his most popular songs were on and enjoyed it less than expected tbh
Not really my thing, but fine enough.
I was expecting this record to be really fun, but I did find it a bit dull, so I ended up feeling disappointed with the lack of energy. At least it is really short.
Enjoyed it!
A nice short one to start the week I wasn't really expecting much, thought it would be just fine, standard 50s rock n roll. It's a fun listen and has something of an ageless quality and Fats had a great voice. But it also feels pretty simple because of not only how many other rock n roll artists were inspired by him, and how much the genre has grown since. That's not me trying to put the album down, I would say it's perhaps a case of the original being so copied to the point that he himself doesn't seem that original. I imagine it sounded very cutting edge and unique at the time, and it definitely deserves to be on the list if he inspired Elvis and The Beatles This isn't on Spotify so I had to listen to a user-curated playlist, which I hope used the same versions that appear on the album (it also ends with Fourth of July by Surfjan Stevens for some reason) 3.5 Highlights: So Long, Troubles of My Own, What's the Reason I'm Not Pleasing You
Behagligt, ska nog in med någon på middagslistan
Not groundbreaking, but not bad.
Why are some songs on splotify grayed out ? Absolute oldie 3
Fella has a big and beautiful voice but overall just okay.
Cool 60s music, but not my favorite.
I'm not someone who grew up on Rock and Roll beyond the small tune used for some toy commercial, so it's hard for me to really get into that stuff because it generally doesn't have the same appeal to me as rock after the 60s. Despite that this album was pretty good! I think what helps it so much is how it has a jazzier sound besides the obvious blues sound, along with Fats' voice being just so nice to listen to, hearing something like "Blueberry Hill" or "So Long" just feels so different to the Rock n Roll of that era but still is that and you can tell how something like those songs would be so liked by rock artists later down the line (Elvis, Beatles, you know, all of those). I'm not so into the songs that are more typically Rock n Roll but I wouldn't mind checking out another one of his albums!
Don't think I've ever actually listened to Fats! I dig, but it appears a lot of these older jazz/blues records are capturing me as much as they probably should.
I enjoyed it, knew a few songs and the rest were decent early rock and roll.
Pleasant.
I didn’t mind this but it didn’t do anything for me. Blueberry Hill was a cool tune.
Klassisk råkkenråll. Han har en flott stemme. Det er gøy å høre hvor Lady Madonna kom fra. Jeg syns en del av sangene var ganske svake på akkurat denne platen, dessverre.
6/10
Good ole music
Paar Songs sind echte Brecher 🙂↕️🙂↕️
its not on apple and the youtube playback is not at the correct playback speed but other than that its pretty decent
At only 17 minutes long, is this the shortest compilation album ever? Ain’t that a shame.
Half the album is unavailable on spotify so I had to make do with just listening to another album lmao
Nice short listen, a little dated and repetitive but pretty good all the same
3 Stars (8/15)
Good music, but I probably wouldn't listen to a ton of it. Although it did kind of spark my interest in those earlier R&B music.
Too short to really get into, had potential though
grrovy
I find this rather boring Rock & Roll (very much based on the 12-bar blues). Here the first two notes and you can basically imagine the whole rest of the song. It's not particularly well sung either. BUT this is 1956 and what sounds boring now didn't then. Being the first at this, is quite a feat and Fats was very influential. A 3 then.
Had to listen to this on YouTube with commercials, so the experience was choppy. Very enjoyable songs. More bluesy than I expected but I can see how this might be a transition album from rhythm and blues to rock and roll.
Great songs don’t constitute a great album. But these are great songs
Dad used to play blueberry hill in the car all the time, a classic. Again though 17 minutes is not an album
Blueberry Hill is one of the greatest songs ever. Voice is great, some unreal piano work and vibes going on here but alas a full albums worth was just a bit much for me
Interesting, but more challenging than normal to get hold of.
Bit monotonous
It's a fine album but not my taste
Wait, his surname actually IS Domino???
Soort nostalgisch omdat mn opa dit vroeger ook wel eens luisterde. Echt jammer dat niet het hele album op spotify staat. Echt leuk.
2.75
Good old classic R&B album. This belongs in a old movie recording or something. Analog recording sound. Not something I'd search but nice to have in arsenal, I suppose Songs feel quite similar to another?
i dunno. this is exactly what i expected fats domino to sound like. what do you want from me
A foundational artist. You can see everything that came after in this record.
Nice piano blues
I guess I lack the context to fully appreciate this. It’s fine.
Fats Domino!!!!
3.5
nice compilation album
I liked it, but I had to listen to some of it a few times because it kept slipping through my ears while I was working. I wish it had a little more KAPOW. 3.5
2.85
I can't help but feel transported to the Enchantment Under the Sea dance in Back to the Future.
Great music from the 1950s. I like Fats’ voice a lot.
Was okay. Lots were familiar from being in the zeitgeist.
Well, I enjoyed it, but I might have enjoyed it even more if the only copy I could find wasn't at the wrong speed/pitch.
Hard to argue with this.
Cool album Standout songs: Blueberry Hill You Done me Wrong Trust in me
Solid album. A little dated, but I enjoyed it.
Loved the audacity of covering New Order's Blue Monday in a 50s rock & roll style. All credit to you Mr Domino, you're one cool cat.
Shorrreee
3.5
I do like Fats. But I guess I just like his hits. Because most of this (not very long) album is him singing standards. It’s just ok. 3/5
Bluesy but cannot play on Youtube Music
I generally love classic RnB, I just vibe as much with this one.
Classic old school pop music. Pretty sure everyone has heard this and familiar with his work. I really like it, not sure if I would go out of my way to listen to it just because it's so prevalent in pop culture.
That's not my taste in music - But ok
Solid easy listen album, quick hitter songs that keep it fresh with each one. Could throw it on when you're cooking or doing some chores around the house
banger
it’s okay
Pre-listening thoughts: I cannot find this anywhere in full so I’m listening to a cobbled together playlist of these songs. Welp. But hey! Album #150. An incredibly short one. I gotta update my playlists before starting the next stretch of 50. lol I’m so behind on those! Post/during listening thoughts: I can totally see how these songs would’ve rocked the world in the 50s, and they’re still good now, just definitely more simplistic than a lot of music now. Fats Domino has a good voice. This is sort of like that Little Richard album for me where like I’m sure at the time it was baller but with how far music has come now it’s not as much baller (for my personal taste). 5.5/10 DID I NEED TO HEAR THIS BEFORE I DIE: like it was a blueprint so yeah but just in terms of my enjoyment no? Fav tracks: Blue Monday, What’s The Reason… Least fav tracks: didn’t dislike any of it I guess but was sort of lukewarm on a lot of it
classic fats
I really liked it…but I also don’t know if I had time to dislike it either. It’s like watching the preview to a movie where they don’t have to show you any thorns…can’t quite trust it.
Some classic sounds in here.
The album was not complete and for my taste a compilation should not count to a best album list since its every successfully song on one album pressed, almost like a best of playlist. But i liked what i heard and maybe he is one of the first musician to push that fatty gimmick to so 3.0/5.0
Pretty much unremarkable. Neither good nor bad.
Again, artist that I know the name of, but their music is largely unknown to me and I have no idea where they fit in the grand timescale of music events that I have in my head. I have a rough, but kind of solid, idea what this set of songs is, but I was surprised how laid back blues and "rock 'n roll" it was. For some reason I was expecting the hyperdrive of Little Richard. Enjoyable bit of musical history that inspired so many artists, who then inspired lot more artists and so on.
Light and easy, a classic piano-driven yap from Mr. Domino
I played the album while I was playing Fallout 76 and ended up playing it through three times because it worked really well with it.
Definitely worth a listen simply to be aware of rock'n'roll history.
gonna be real i am so relieved all of the tracks on this one are under 3mins long. i have no idea why this thing is on this list. all of these songs sound the same. what the fuck
regrettably my brain filters a lot of this through a generalizing "this is oldies music" sheen that makes me bored by a lot of this record. but i can see the vision and why this would feel special at the time. 2.5/5
Quite like it
Pioneering work but has been improved upon since. 3.3
Pleasant, I wouldn't choose to put it on but makes for nice listening.
Eigentlich 3.5. Amüsant und guter vibe.
Wasn't about to listen to a few of the tracks, so I wasn't able to find them anywhere on the internet. But everything I did hear was great. Fats is a legend for a reason ❤️
OG rock and roll - why is it always swing?
This is really good old school Rock’n’Roll 3.5/5
It’s not a race Fats.
This was fun upbeat 50’s bops. I bet so many white singers copied his flow bar for bar. Fun stuff, def makes you want to go to a sock hop or something
Enjoyable. Especially "So Long" and "La La". However, song 7 to 12 were not available on Spotify for some reason, so I didn't listen to the full album.
We enjoyed this a reasonable amount. ...we think. Forgot to review this one and now we don't remember anything about it.
Accidentally listened to one of his live albums called Fats Domino first, then listened to This is Fats Domino. At least both were enjoyable!
Klingt wie ein runder Stein, der so langsam ins Rollen kommt.
Det var fed nok, selvom det virkede lidt tilfældigt sammensat
Unlike a lot of other early rock and roll albums, this is subdued enough to be pleasant while still catchy. The jazz and blues DNA is very apparent.
Liked it. Great 50’s vibe.
Only a part available on Spotify. Apart from that I like old tunes, and this one is kind of a classic.
To me this music makes me think of vintage car shows, and Happy Days and American Graffiti of course. 3 stars or C-.
This is an album of its time. Is it my sort of thing? Not really, though it was pleasant and easy to listen to. Yes I can see why its on the list. Yes I can understand how it was influential in creating the music that has evolved into my sort of thing. And for that I suppose it should get a 4 or5. But that is not the criteria by which I'm scoring things. It whether I like it now., today, in this time. And by those criteria it gets a 3.
Reeling and Rocking really got to me for some reason...
Recording feels very 40s/early 50s...I don't really like the mix, the horns sound like they are in a different room. The vibe is the coolest part--he's always a little laid back with energy and tempo even on very rock n' roll blues. The damn Swedes won't let us listen to half of the album so maybe he kicks it up a notch on the back half of the album.
Fats was printing money! "The Associated Press estimates that during his career, Domino "sold more than 110 million records"." I had no idea he was this popular or really his significance to rock music. I enjoyed this and will come back to it on occasion. Predictably it sounds rudimentary 60 years later, which would be my only critique. I think it deserves a 4 but it’ll be a 3 for me.
Easy to like, hard to love. Good music to have on in the background while you prepare a Christmas ham. My two year son loved this and I think that’s probably the ideal audience for this kind of music.
Had to go to youtube to listen to this album I liked Aint That A Shame Nothing crazy here in our modern age, but I understand the significance of including at least one domino album on this list. It was more entertaining to read about Fats and how influential he was. I think we all owe him a big thank you for laying out how a rocker should make music and act in public - seemed like a great/humble figure👏🫡
I dunno man. Was this at one point groundbreaking or genre defining? I assume so (confirmed). I guess this is how pioneering music goes - if you’re inventing a sound, it’s by definition in its infancy and hasn’t been perfected yet. So as an achievement or a time capsule on its own terms, significant, but looking back now, kinda meh (however unfair it is to judge by later standards). 3 stars for inventing a genre I guess I do appreciate that this was an era when if you were fat, your stage name was just Fats. We need more of that straight shooting. Ball’s in your court Lizzo
It's a good listen, heard a lot of him and similar going up. He's good but prefer other artist more at the time.
A good listen that I would run through again. I’m assuming this sound was a big deal in the late 50’s but there is more “daring” and interesting stuff from that time.
Some classic Rock and Roll, a little mix of some jazz I can listen to. Overall it's an okay album, with songs that I'd listen to again. It may have been groundbreaking in 1957 but it's tough to come in in 2024 and feel the same way about it.
It never hurts to hear more early rock and roll, but I can’t say that I found this particularly compelling. But it’s listenable and interesting from a pop music history perspective.
Iconic
A lot of the songs sound the same. Although I like the overall sound, but it is very much like waiting room music.
Breath of fresh air… but then after Elvis Costello, anything would seem good ;-) A decent album.
This was fun. Foundational music like this is quaint today but still had it's place.
Insanely quick album. I blinked and it was over. Hard to judge based on that. Was solid though.
Most of this is greyed out on Spotify, so I'll just have to review what I did listen to. Definitely liked this more than I expected, I fully thought that this was just going to be another really boring 50s album that hasn't stood the test of time. And it sort of is that, but in a way a lot of of competes surprisingly well with the standards of today.
Was very short
Classic
This Is Fats Domino! is a fine album, but the songs don’t leave a lasting impression on me. If I were watching a live performance, I’d politely applaud, but it’s not something I’d rush to buy. While Fats Domino deserves credit for his role in shaping the genre in its early stages, it sometimes feels like listening to a demo—a work in progress rather than the final product. To be fair, I might not be giving the album its due since I’m listening on YouTube, and the mixing doesn’t seem quite right. That said, some tracks are enjoyable, but the overall experience feels repetitive, particularly with the left-hand piano chords. The saxophone is nice, and Fats’ voice is pleasant, but a lot of the songs feel unfinished, like they started with an idea but didn’t follow through. Also, I don’t appreciate the confusion of there being This Is Fats Domino! and This Is Fats, causing a momentary panic about listening to the wrong album! Standout track: Blue Monday. Score: 3/5 (though it’s closer to a 2.5).
beetje saai voor genre wel prima
Nothing too special
Pirtsakka, helposti pudoteltava ja raikas. Musiikkimaailman riesling.
Helppo, hyvä ja olisi saanut olla vähän pidempikin.
ненапряжно толстый братишка наиграл
gefällig, und ich mag (frühen) rock‘n‘roll sonst nicht so.
I'm not the biggest blues fan but if I had to listen to it, I'd choose this album. It was mostly fun with some undeniable classics. 3.5 stars
Liked this one. Would have to be in the mood for it, but overall it was fun to listen to. 3.5/5 Might listen again
3 - very fun, not my thing
Was quite a quest to figure out which album this actually was. Said album cover isn't on Deezer and there's 2 albums from 56/57 with basically the same album title as this. Fats Domino is always a treat to listen. These recordings feel like the emphasis is put more on the bass and guitar rather than Fats' piano playing. I liked the album but it's a bit short and I think Fats Domino Swings would have been a better pick since it includes all of his biggest hits. EDIT: I still have no idea what the actual album is supposed to be. EDIT 2: I found the proper album now which is different from the previous one. Sounds fine, didn't recognise any songs besides Blue Monday and Blueberry Hill. Always a joy to listen to Fats Domino but I still think Fats Domino Swings is the better showcase of his skills.
Osaa se Fats laulaa. Kerran kuunteli.
Much like a lot of things from this era, enjoyable listen and obviously influential, but doesn’t quite stand the test of time. My two young kids loved it though, so maybe more timeless than I thought.
Nice music, feel like I’ve heard many of these songs over the years.
It's fun. I don't listen to enough "old rock n roll"
One of the coolest things about the 1001 album generator is how it’s introduced me to music that’s completely outside of my usual realm. As much as I’d love to go on about how incredible and groundbreaking this album is, the truth is, aside from knowing Fats Domino’s name and his role as a rock ‘n’ roll pioneer, my musical journey pretty much begins in the 60s and moves forward. It’s not that I don’t have an interest in this earlier era; I just haven’t ventured this far back yet to fully grasp the influence and impact of albums like this. That being said, if you’re interested in exploring some of the pioneering records from the early days of rock, this is definitely one to dig into.
A voice full and smooth With horns blasting, band backing, Jazz peppered pre-rock
It’s a vibe. Not awful but not amazing. Just a vibe.
I was only familiar with one track: Blueberry Hill. The overall sound is a little too old-timey for me to get into, but it's fine as background music.
Like the Buddy Holly album, I recognize that this is seminal, ground-breaking work - but it's hard to hear how innovative it must have been with modern ears. That said, still a fun listen - even if none of it was particularly finger-snapping.
5.5/10 The problem with foundational texts like these is that they often sound like the basic version, because you are used to what has been done with 60+ years of building on it So this sounds basic, is a series of extremely short but well-made songs You can hear jazz and blues becoming rock here Best: Blue Monday
3.5/5 No strong thoughts really - pleasant enough. Can appreciate how Fats was a gateway/harbinger for the transition from blues to rock and roll, but would I listen to this on my own? Unlikely.
Although I’m not as familiar with first generation rock and roll as I would like to be, this album really was a great introduction to the genre and songs like blueberry hill, so long and the fat man’s hop are songs that I truly did enjoy and wouldn’t be surprised if they made it into my regular rotation in the future.
Couldn’t find actual album on Spotify but pieced it together to listen.
Good old rock and roll
Not bad just not riveting
Fats! 35 top 40 singles in 8/9 years in the late 50s/early 60s. Amazing. Pleasant listen, hard to know just how fresh it was at the time but still sounds fun.
Indeed it is.
seeee 7/10
I like that he doesn't over stay his welcome -at 17 minutes this is the shortest album by far (TAKE NOTE Elton John). I do appreciate it for what it did at the time and that he pioneered this sound but now it sounds so similar to so many other 50s rock n roll it's quite difficult to find stand out tracks. Great rumbling voice though.
This was really enjoyable actually. I don't think I will go back to it but I can really appreciate it for what it is. Blueberry Hill was my favourite
Proto rock
All of this old school rock n roll is just in one ear and out the other for me. While it's playing it's a fun time though.
That was a bit of fun. Old time blues/jazz. Note that Spotify doesn't have this as an album, but you can cobble together all the songs
It definitely was Fats Domino. He's good, but has been massively outclassed in every respect afterwards.
Enjoyable, very old-school, and lacks production value in today's music, but not a bad listen. Would listen again, but not for a while.
Fat and easy
Half of the songs are missing from Spotify because of what must be due to licensing issue
Hard to find, but a nice compilation of tunes. Pleasing and well-delivered
good vibes but kinda blended together
Some nice songs on here. Surprised at how short the album was even with 2 bonus tracks
Nice to listen to the roots of rock and jazz. Also nice to see how it's evolved since then...
Not too bad
Fats here, bringing it home in 17 minutes, after four hours of Bee Gees and MJ Cole nonsense. And some of those minutes are Blueberry Hill, a song I find very nostalgic for reasons I can't quite place. All in all, very pleasant stuff.
You can't really vote this down right. Its obviously not great on today's standards, but it's akin to going to see some ancient cave art and saying "this isn't very good is it". Appreciating how this genre laid the foundations for one of the biggest and most important evolutionary paths in music history means it's 3* minimum. I probably wouldn't revisit much of this so I guess it'll stay at that.
Fats is good.
Blueberry Hill is a banger.
Several decades ago, I enjoyed listening to Fats Domino and the like. This was the transition from RnB to RnR. Blueberry Hill is and will be an all-time classic. I liked listening to this, but will certainly not come back to it.
I guess it's here for a reason, just sounds like generic old time pop to me I'm afraid. Nice, but not something I'll look out again.
I can only imagine the impact this had at the time. Today, it sounds like kids music, by which I mean simplistic and not in a bad way like most modern pop music
This album reminds me of my grandfather. He used to listen to it and Fats Domino in general a lot. He wasn't always a nice man but I knew he loved me and that's what mattered.
fav blueberry hill
There aren’t a lot of rock albums that Could be described as jolly. But this is very jolly!
Not bad but a lot of it sounds the same
Fats Domino is kind of the mean metric for old school rock and roll. I'll almost never choose to put his music on, but I really dig it when I hear it.
Not bad. I think overall, there is better Fats Domino. After this album was over, Spotify started playing other Fats singles, and I liked them more than what I just heard. So, good artist, ok album. 3/5
Solid
Fun little in and out listen
Fats is good and Blueberry Hill is top notch, but the rest of this was pretty just OK.
First time listening to this artist. Bluesy old timey wimey soulful earworms. Pleasant piano work and saxophone playing
Mediocre
Not really an album?
Very good
Super fun album. You can definitely hear the roots of R&B and Rock n' Roll. I remember listening to this one when I was a freshmen in a college taking a music class. I love the influence Elvis and even The Beatles in some songs.
One of those germinal 'this is where it all comes from' artists - swinging bluesy piano jazz with a big band and charismatic vocals that sets the template for rock and roll. It's so foundational it ends up sounding very basic and over-familiar going back to it, so hard to enjoy as something other than a kind of museum peice.
Rock and roll was still learning to walk when Fats Domino blustered onto the scene in the mid-1950’s. By all accounts a gentle, quiet and unassuming figure, he modestly (and completely fairly) claimed the genre was nothing but repackaged R&B which he’d been playing for many years in New Orleans. Nonetheless, history hasn’t quite recorded it that way and my (limited) knowledge held Fats Domino up as one of the original rock and rollers to influence Elvis, The Beatles, Led Zeppelin and many more. Rawer than Presley, smoother than Little Richard… in this album, Fats is an entity unto himself. “This Is Fats Domino” is a tight and lean 27 minutes, consisting of mostly originals penned with producer Dave Bartholomew. It isn’t the most diverse set of songs- surely it wouldn’t have hurt the duo to aspire to more than the twelve-bar blues- but the performances are solid enough to make it an entertaining half-hour. Fats lives and breathes swing, with his hammered out triplets on the piano, gung-ho trills, sloshy open hi-hats, and saturated horns. The gentle, soothing homecoming lilt of “Blueberry Hill”… the slow crawling blues of “Reeling and Rocking”… the swagger and pizazz of “Blue Monday”. I could go on about all the songs here in very similar, repetitive terms… they’re all cut from the same solid cloth. Great clean fun, if not a thrill ride: it never hurts to bow down and pay respect to one of the old guard of modern music.
This was a fun record. This could be part of a Fallout soundtrack which kind adds to its charm for me in this day and age. I do like this sound of old bluesy rock and roll. The opening song feels like the intro to a movie. It also reminds me of when I was in New Orleans and every bar had a similar sounding band or artist playing this type of music. It's very feel good. And I think those who dislike this don't like fun music.
i wish i had more to say, this was made before albums were really albums so this is just a collection of previously released songs. they’re all good mind you but it’s just stuff i’ve already heard.
Love me good ol' Rock and/or Roll. Great voice and fantastic piano. Also failry short and sweet.
Enjoyable… reminds me of the old TV drama Lipstick on your Collar which featured this….
A solid blues offering
50s music is just not for me, but I’ll give credit where credit is due because Fats is a legend.
Hard to dislike an album this short. Fats really bodies the tracks and everything is sounding great. I am unlikely to listen to this often but I know it will be here and that's a comfort.
fats was cool, and a kingpin in his time/genre. appreciate what he did for music
Not to my liking, although I realize he was an instrumental figure in early rock and roll/blues.
old
This music became normal and became boring. Probably the best stuff out at the time, but its age is shown in how normal all of it has become.
Some good rock and roll - apparently influenced Elvis and The Beatles. Very 50s. I liked it. Fave Track: Honey Chile Rating: 3
Heilt streit
Awesome start but rest of songs a bit flat by comparison. Hell of a voice though
Short but sweet record, fun tunes and swingy melodies. Enjoyed this listen!
Always nice
Blueberry Hill Blue Monday
Wasn't expecting much but god some nice little tunes and solid musicianship. 2.5
It was nice to hear Fats Domino again after a long time. Unfortunately, the album was not fully available on my streaming service. Although I like the music, I won't hear it again anytime soon. 3/5
Enjoyed this album
Blueberry Hill Honey Chile Blue Monday La La Reeling And Rocking Poor, Poor Me
Good music but can't listen to a whole album if it in one sitting
Nice songs and I can see why Fats was very influential. I liked the bluesy ones like Blueberry Hill the most. Found the arrangements a little simplistic to rate this very highly but that's no criticism, he was ahead of his time
I found it monotonous, sorry. Bless your soul though, Fats! Never, never forgotten 🦋
#252. I've found I don't really like most of the ol timey rock and roll stuff in this book, but for some reason I thought this one was pretty good. Maybe because it was a bit bluesy as well? I don't know. 3/5: pretty good
17 minute run time.
Call me a Zoomer™️ but the outdated recording and lack of variety hinders my enjoyment of these songs.
A bit soft
Note: Listen again
This Is Fats Domino is a short and cheery album that maintains a consistent vibe throughout. While some tracks may feel a bit repetitive after a while, the overall experience is still enjoyable and fun. Listening to it, one can't help but conjure images of Richie Cunningham and his crew, particularly when Blueberry Hill comes on. It's a nostalgic trip back to simpler times, filled with Fats Domino's signature sound and catchy tunes. Despite its samey nature, the album manages to capture the essence of classic rock 'n' roll and delivers a feel-good experience from start to finish. NUMBER OF BANGERS - 4 STAND OUT TRACK BLUEBERRY HILL
One of those on here mostly for historical significance. Also great musicianship. And just found out he died in 2017. One of the founding fathers of rock and roll. Crazy how young rock is. The percussion on Don't you Hear me Calling. Fun stuff. A couple tracks could be cut to keep it feeling fresh. 3.5
Good stuff. Probably won’t revisit often.
I'm know this is an important, milestone collection from the very roots of rock'n'roll and blues but I prefer the later music it inspired. After a few goes, it's good stuff but doesn't really have me adding to my rotation.
Joyful rhythm and blues. This was a pleasure to put on today. I’m always surprised by how short pop songs are from this era. There’s a real “get in, do the song and get out” attitude that I appreciate. There are occasionally some jazzy solos on this but mostly the songs are very lean.
As a kid in the 1970s I really enjoyed music from the 1950s. A couple of these tunes are absolute classics, and he definitely influenced the development of rock and roll from the roots of rhythm and blues. That said, I wouldn't want a steady diet of this for listening.
This genre of music is very nice and all but it just dosn't grab me. 3/5
Fue un pionero pero ha quedado superado y anticuado.
It would be sacrilege to rate this album low even if the music itself does not rock your boat enough to play it regularly. Most of the tracks are well known standards and can be heard regularly on the radio and have become warm comforting songs everyone knows. I doubt that I will ever have a Fats Domino album but will always be happy to hear his tunes. 3/5 24/5/24
Legend of the game.
Good ol Fats. Classic 50s music.
Easy listening!
It's a great album.
No doubt an important piece of history but not much stands out in a modern context, even the vocals left me less than impressed. Listened to: at home. Favorite track: Blue Monday
Good old fashioned rock and roll. Paving the way for great things.
Rock and roll, boogie-woogie.
Old timey music
idk it was fine
Unable to hear anywhere except YouTube
ok
I get it. I don’t love it. But I get it. Lotsa ivory-tickling and boogie-woogieing all night long and the like.
Fun.
I enjoyed it, it wasn’t amazing but it was a good listen. I think it was a compilation from reading other reviews. Which shows why it was a bit disjointed.
Awesome and fun
Enjoyed. Good old-fashioned music.
It’s easy to see how this early rock n roll influenced later bands like The Rollingstones. I appreciate the relevance of this album.
This was a fun listen. I get lost in conversations about the micro-genres of music of this era, and i have to *imagine* that this was really exciting at the time.
I enjoyed this a lot. I can imagine putting this on the record player while you're having friends over and it being the perfect compliment to a nice little party.
Fun! But wouldn’t listen again. It did go by quickly though.
Wish I didn't have to listen to this on youtube! Fun stuff.
I only listened to half of the album because the rest was unavailable on Spotify. Of course Blueberry Hill is the standout song, but the rest were decent if not a bit repetetive.
I wish more traditional blues and rock and roll would come back.
Ne znam. Jako kratak, nista prezanimljivo. Nije los vokal. 5/10 = 3
Good old school blues.
Nothing to write home about
This was quite enjoyable. Not sure it would sell too well now but for the 50s not too bad
Short, blues, fat. 6/10
I appreciate the historic importance. And it's fun for a minute. But, as with almost all jump blues (all 12 bar blues to be honest), it gets really tedious after about three or four songs.
Classic.
good
Couldn't find the album but jammed out to some Fats Domino. Pretty solid. Just classic earlyyyyy rock n roll, nothing too exciting. Cool hearing the originals of some of the 60s bands who covered him (eg. Beatles)
Cheeky to have a compilation in the book, even though lots of these tunes are classics.
fun! a handful of the tracks were unavailable on spotify for some reason but the ones i was able to listen to were very dancey 3.5/5
Pleasant enough jazz...nice
Let Fat Cook.. Picture this, you are a iconic person in your music lane, and Elvis plops out of the sky at steals the spotlight cause he's a hot dancing white guy. By all accounts of what I have seen in my quick study of Fats Domino, he was the complete opposite of Elvis Personality, looks EVERYTHING yet he was Catalyst of his time. Apparently he was the second highest selling rock and roll artist of the 50's- only outsold by Elvis Presley himself. On this specific album, we get HEAVY NOLA vibes- the smooth Jazzy, Groovy, slow rockin vibes. Honeslty, this album is very dated at this point, but I still had a fun time listening to this record, and learning his story. I am still confused if we listened to the right album, but according to wiki we put the pieces together. I really love the tone of the album, as it is again a very chill and calming vibe, which is a nice change up from all the edgy depressing rock as of late. This is a solid 7.5 for me, and it would be higher, but it's just something I won't revist due to how dated parts of it sound. Some tracks get a bit repetitive Love Live Fat
This isn't really an album like it's just singles so I won't really be rating it as such. I just can't give this a 4/5 in good faith but it's not a 2 so a 3 it is. Fats is a great musician that I have heard many times. Rock and Roll Legend and a darn good one at that. I love the way that the songs are just so dynamic a bit of jazz influence and just beautiful love songs. I really have nothing to say since its all singles liked them all but again it is a compilation which not the biggest fan of. I love old rock and roll solos too fats piano solos are to die for
Hard to appreciate the influence an album this old had. It doesn't sound that special but I'm sure it was at the time.
Cool to hear some very early rock and roll.
Nice listening. I can imagine this would be popular for the era. I found the songs mostly to be the 12 bar blues chord progression. Would not listen again.
17 mins long this one was fast as fuck boy
Fats is a very influential figure in rock 'n' roll. He's got great old fashioned rock songs here, but the album has some noticably weak songs
17 mins isn't what I would call an album, but hell of a piano player.
The roll bit of rock and roll. Steady beat, that flowing piano and Fats melodious voice, never yelpy or hoarse. Easy three, and you can reconstruct this album in 5 mins from Spotify even though the album itself isn't there.
Just some easy listening
Fat King fr fr Best Song: N/A they all kinda sound the same Worst Song: N/A
This is pretty good actually. Not set the world on fire good with modern ears, but I can imagine that in context it might be seen as that. A bit of a mix, but much better than most albums I’ve listened to from the 55-65 era. Maybe the compilation nature does help.
Rating: 6/10 Good album overall, not my style though.
Missing half of the tracks on Spotify
Solid enough.
oh! it's over. half the tracks weren't available on spotify, but I get the gist. It's very fun music.
Blueberry Hill reminds me of happy days watching Happy Days as a kid. Enjoyed the whole album.
Classic blues rock going way, way back.
Bluesy chord progressions and basslines, and nice horn sections. Simple but enjoyable at the same time. Honey Chile had a cool swing to it. Thank you fats
half the album not available on Spotify
Short album. I really enjoyed it though!
Nice
