Pretty good
Bastante agradable.
Bra, svag 4:a.
Svag fyra.
this album is awesome it gives early toto vibes
Such a fun time, can’t believe I got into 10cc before supertramp these guys are exciting to listen to!
Trippy, spooky, driving, and whimsical. Varied instrumentation added fantastic pizzazz and shades of Queen.
64/100 Based on this scale: 1 star - 0 to 19 2 stars - 20 to 39 3 stars - 40 to 59 4 stars - 60 to 79 5 stars - 80 to 100 Ah, Supertramp. Prog pop's the best kind of pop. That's not saying much, but I rather like it. I'm more of a Breakfast in America kind of guy, mind you.
Everything I know about Supertramp comes from Breakfast in America, so it was fun to go deeper into the catalogue here. Really fun music - love the harmonies and the electric piano. I probably don’t listen to enough of this band. I’ll have to amend that after listening to this album.
4.5
This starts off funky. Kinda prog rocky. I didnt think i would like this album but grew into it. Easy 4 maybe light 5 Repeats: school, dreamer,Rudy Skips:crime of the century
Album 247 of 1001 Supertramp - Crime of the Century Rating : 4 / 5 Favorite Tracks: Bloody Well Right / Dreamer For a long time, for me, Supertramp began with "Breakfast in America". Never took time to see if there were more, even though I was familiar with the couple of hits that had came from this album. I like this version just as much. Not a perfect album but very enjoyable. More prog and less pop than their later stuff.
- reminds me of The Who - I like the long tracks and how the music gets lost in between - synthies and guitars mixed with nice ambient sounds - Last Song favorite Song
Tough to be objective here as Supertramp - and some of these songs - formed part of the backdrop of my childhood, as my dad is a fan. So let's just say that 'Dreamer', 'Rudy' and 'Crime of the Century' were, and remain, top tier jazz-flecked prog rock songs. Could listen to this album again and again.
No skips, great Supertramp prog pop
I feels pretty typical of this era. I'll admit that I don't know much about this genre or time era. This album is enjoyable but it feels very derivative.
I like Supertramp. They're not GREAT, but they're good. Definitely a unique sound, and tunes are catchy enough. 3.5 round up to 4.
Sweet and savory tunes
Liked it very much
Very good album, especially liked Dreamer and Bloody Well Right. Superb musicians and production I could listen to this a lot and an audiophile system will reward you.
Bit of a classic
Super nice reminiscing about my prog phase in high school. This album is great! I'd heard these guys before but this album was quite a treat. Gave me a lot of Genesis vibes. All the experimental production and extreme panning I'm always a fan of. A very haunting and moody album! I enjoyed.
Favorite Tracks: School, Bloody Well Right, Hide In Your Shell, Dreamer, Rudy, If Everyone Was Listening, Crime Of The Century
It's a vibe!
Pretty solid album, although the lyrics are kinda mid, the rich sound more than makes up for it. Would have loved to see more a of a switch up of the sound throughout the record, I felt as of it got a little bit tiring after a while. Rudy is a great song, probably the only one I'll revisit from the album, but Crime Of The Century and Slip Your Skin were good too. Maybe a 6.5 / 10.
this album really grow on me over 4 listens especially the first 3 tracks as well as the title track, which is definitely my favorite here
Solid album with some really amazing highpoints, especially the opener and the closer. A little inconsistent but overall a very solid listen
Fun to listen to. Definitely an experience. Really cool harmonica intro. Not really my style though.
So grandiose and so 70s.
Good vibes, writing. Soulful performances. Great production/mixing. Beginning and ending tracks strongest.
Supertramp seems to write a pop song for every indulgent b-side and this album is no stranger to the rule. I’m a super fan.
Great listen. I forgot about School, that is a classic.
Nice. I've heard the same Supertramp before, but never listened to them. Wow. Not bad. I like it. Very 70's.
Today I learned that Supertramp are British and not American. Eight mostly chunky songs length wise, if not always in tone, which moves between rock opera to pop and prog rock. The overall vibe is theatrical and a touch campy no doubt offering inspiration to Spinal Tap * Dreamer was the track I knew best and sounds like prime ELO. * Hide in Your Shell is my standout track * Bloody Well Right probably hasn't aged well from 1974 when it was probably edgy, but seems a bit childish now
Not bad, but there wasn't anything really remarkable about it. But \"Asylum\" and \"Rudy\" go kinda hard tbh.
This is one hell of a good album. Bunch of hit tracks, and even though I'm tired as fuck of british artists from this list its due its 4 stars. 4/5
Good melodies and great instrumentals. Very relaxed feel.
Such an original group. The keyboards were amazing. Prog rock candy.
One of the most epic, well produced and polished rock albums the Muppets ever released.
Quality arrives Couple of classic songs, and some unknown
I've always really liked this record. It's got some absolutely fantastic songwriting, the arrangements are cool, there are many interesting musical ideas, and the overall concept is really well executed. Definitely one of the best single disc concept albums. My favorite Supertramp record.
Didn’t understand why it was good until I listened a second time.
The songs that bookend this record are quite brilliant, its a perfect symmetry for the listener. It’s a very seventies sounding record which seems to have lost favour. But for sure some of these songs are timeless and in fifty years will still be appreciated.
Supertramp are just great at making very impressive and very fun albums. Maybe not quite as iconic as Breakfast in America, but there is some amazing stuff on here
Solid work from Supertramp.
Cool
4.5
Title track is excellent.
I kind of don’t like Supertramp, but accounting for taste, it’s a good album.
Sweet
LP
I like the album art.
I know the Supertramp singles and always enjoyed them. I love the intro to this album, it starts with a mournful, sorrowful harmonica, and the first track is complex with a funky groove. I do like his voice. It's got some jazzy and atmospheric tracks, which don't rush to fit into a three minute pop single format, they build slowly and with unexpected complexity.
Cool extended long songs, particularly enjoyed the first track (School)
Very pleasantly surprised. Occasionally sounded like Yes or ELO. I guess that'll show me for ignoring bands just because I don't like their name.
very solid supertramp, though I personally prefer breakfast in america and even in the quietest moments more
Very good to excellent. Standouts: School, Bloody Well Right, Dreamer. The rest of the songs are good as well.
Always enjoyed Supertramp but hadn’t listened to an album before. Enjoy the use of piano and horn. A cut above the generic 70s classic rock to my ears
Was a pleasure to listen while working. I can imagine to coming back to it.
Really enjoyed this one, Supertramp has such an iconic sound! Ended up listening to more of their discography after this one
Supertramp has a kind of tasteful, understated way of doing prog which I really like. I wish they had leaned heavier in that direction instead of the poppier songs.
Lovely album
Surprisingly good. I think "Bloody Well Right" was the only track I recognized, but I liked it all.
Although I don't know if I've ever listened to this album in its entirety in one sitting (or at least not in a long time), it looms large in my life. It's a favorite of my Dad's, so I remember seeing the album cover around throughout my childhood, and definitely hearing the bigger songs on every mixtape that served as a road trip soundtrack. That opening harmonica wail on "School" still sends shivers up my spine. Reading other reviews here, I see a lot of criticism that the prog rock here is too tinged with elements of soft rock or yacht rock. It may not be as challenging as other albums of its time, but what's wrong with that? It's damn listenable -- in fact, it sounds great to my ears. Many would agree, as several of these tracks remain staples of 70s music. Dad, I like your music tastes quite a bit.
On the "cool" side of the "cool/goober" dichotomy that classic prog tends to finely tread. I only really, REALLY wish that the album was as willing to blast off into space as it's ready and willing to in its most energetic (and best) parts. My ears immediately perk up and tune right in whenever that beautiful saxophone comes in and immediately sends any song it's on into a musical odyssey, though. A bloody well right 3.5/5.
No me cansó. Mucho material. Nutritivo.
When I was a teenager I would babysit for my oldest brother's kids, which basically consisted of listening to music while they slept. Although "Indelibly Stamped" is the album cover that drew my attention, this one had the music to suck me in.
Love the cover and I have such fond memories listening to this vicariously because my sister loved it so much.
Very enjoyable album. Honestly, I didn't know much about this band, other than the funny name. I thought they play some boring 70s rock, Procol Harum style for some reason. But whatever the genre was that (some psychedelic, progressive rock) it worked very, very well. I absolutely loved the outro song from this album, the self-titled "Crime Of the Century". I adore this type of songs, like I explained hundred times before. It was a very positive surprise, I have seen Supertramp vinyl records many times in shops, but now I can actually consider it as a really good buy.
Actually really nicely composed album
I absolutely love Supertramp, but I've never listened to any of their albums from start to finish. I'm most familiar with a lot of songs off of Breakfast in America, but I do know a few songs off of Crime Of The Century. Thankfully, I was able to listen to this album twice today. On my first listen, I noticed all of the things that I love about Supertramp: Hodgson and Davies's vocals, great piano riffs, and catchy pop melodies. I enjoyed my first listen, but I wasn't terribly impressed. During my second time going through it, I was able to pay a lot more attention to the lyrics, and that's what really elevated my second listen. I know that Supertramp has claimed that this album isn't a concept album, but I think there's at minimum a story that weaves its way through the songs: the story of someone who goes through what they think are the normal progressions of life, only to find out that the end result wasn't what was promised to them, and that they're just left with feelings of disillusionment and loneliness. As much as I thought this was a good album, I still heavily prefer Breakfast in America, but I can appreciate Crime Of The Century for what it is.
This album sounds like a band with the potential to do some pretty amazing stuff, but this specific album is not there yet. There a elements to it that I really enjoy, and if they leaned into them more, it make for a solid album. It’s a good debut album. They clearly define their distinct sound and have some original concepts going. Only main issue for me is that the production doesn’t sound to hot, but other than that, it’s great. 4/5
Own on Vinyl
Enjoyable! Pero not sticking
great!
Nice blend of prog and pop, I'm glad this was on the list. As someone who likes prog, I'd somehow overlooked them.
Solid from start to finish.
Classic debut! A unique combination of being catchy, bombastic, swinging, rocking and quite a bit more.
Not bad boys spitting some facts
School: I liked this song by the second listen. The piano chords and harmonica are called back on in Crime of the Century, and I really like that. Bloody Well Right: told me that Supertramp is British. I understand why this was their US break through song. Hide In Your Shell: not memorable. Asylum: a bop; can see myself crying while listening in the future. Dreamer: by far my favorite song on the album. They wrote it for me. Rudy: also written for me; I love not being sophisticated and getting on trains. If Everyone Was Listening: Immediately: send in the clowns. I would choose this song over Send in the Clowns every time. Crime of the Century: Pretty good. No clowns mentioned. Did a very good job building on my emotions. The building of instruments over the piano motif is always a good way to get me going. And ending the song with a harmonica callback to School? Golden, genius.
Quite enjoyable. Fun fact Supertramp is the first band my parents saw together…cute!
Bloodywell right!!! Enjoyed this thoroughly a few times this weekend.
Putting the ‘super’ in Supertramp
Pretty fun album, definitely a classic. No bad songs really. Any time I felt like a song was dragging a bit they'd move to another part that is awesome and would bring me right back in - prog rock stuff, I guess. Favourite songs are School and Crime of the Century. Bloody Well Right hold up even though I've hears it a million times in the past. Love me some tasteful Wurlitzer.
I wrote off Supertramp as a youngster because I don't like Dreamer and I thought it was basically what their sound was. I'm glad I was forced to listen to an actual album by them! Their sound is so much more than the goofy high pitched soft pop Dreamer bit, as iconic as I find it to be. They know how to rock, they're good instrumentalists, this was a good album. I'm wondering if this is their best album because it has all the songs I know off hand by them. Highlights include Bloody Well Right and the moment in Hide in your Shell where the pre-chorus transitions to the chorus with "Don't let your...".
relatively short, pretty good, it was some fun classic rock.
Loved it
Great keyboards, expansive songwriting, theatrical. Cowboy Bebop took/shared some inspiration from the first and last songs. School and Asylum highlights. Sort of similar to Pink Floyd.
Great album. "School" and "Crime Of The Century" are brilliant compositions.
I enjoyed much more than I thought I would! 70’s vibes for sure. I do not like prog or much English stuff but I really enjoyed this!
Banger
This is really good!
Supertramp’s third album found its way to me just after I’d turned eighteen. I was insecure and aloof as many eighteen year olds tend to be, and always in search of a prog rock track from the 1970’s to clumsily apply to my life. So it came to pass that while my generation were brooding to “Take Me To Church” or partying to “1989”, one of my alienated teenage anthems became “Hide in Your Shell.” It still grips me from beginning to end: the melancholy intro; the mounting drama; forlorn lyrics like “too frightening, the fires becoming colder; too beautiful to think you’re growing older”; the climactic end with Hodgson’s vocals cracking under the strain, the saxophone bursting in to reprise the chorus melody. A top tier track. The band were perhaps the best to capture loneliness, alienation and despair through Wurlitzer soft-rock, and “Hide in Your Shell” is just one version of it. Across the rest of “Crime of the Century”, we hear various takes on similar ideas, stringing together the loosest of concept albums. The magnificent opener, “School”, examines the roots of isolation (with one of my favourite piano solos in rock), while “Bloody Well Right” touches on the damage done by the UK’s class system. Lyrically, “Asylum” seems to be aping Pink Floyd’s “Brain Damage” from the previous year, and is a little clunky, but the cathartic explosion of sound in the choruses more than makes up for it. And then we have “Dreamer”: an idealist’s downfall set to an insistently catchy (perhaps to the point of irritating for some, but not for me) keyboard-led pop single. After this high watermark, the album does lose a little steam. “Rudy”, for all its grand pretensions to be an emotional centrepiece, is overlong and lacks the same payoff (narrative or musical) as many of the other longer tracks on here. I was never overly fond of “If Everyone Was Listening”, and I’m even less so now. The extended metaphor of actors and jesters on stage in a dying performance feels a little corny, and the pace really drags. But things are brought back with the epic “Crime of the Century”: quiet emotional verses, huge final build introducing the band (and an orchestra) back into the mix one by one. Musically, it’s consistently great: the saxophone and Wurlitzers are surprisingly tolerable and Roger Hodgson and Rick Davies’ interchanged vocals and songwriting aspire to Lennon-McCartney levels of distinct personalities, with some success. I’m being harsh on it for the weaker spots and to temper my own personal bias, but it’s a 9/10 record any day of the week.
I thoroughly enjoyed this album. My expectations for this album (and Supertramp as group) were both subverted and affirmed as the album was more “rock” and “jam” heavy than I had expected, but also was thickly layered with the bands signature synths. The dense and varied instrumentation always provided something new to listen for. The jazzy piano and saxophone combo proved enthralling. 8/10
Great
An underrated band that had great music.
Awesome album with a ton of great choruses and instrumentation. Not a bad song on the album to me. I assume it was adventurous for the time and I believe it paid off and it sounds great to this day. 9.5/10
Love the use of the saxophone and that they kept the album short and tight. Great time.
Ah the Tramp are always good for some very familiar, cheesy, sax-heavy proggy tunes. Enough iconic ones on here to warrant a 4.
I used to really enjoy Supertramp, but something about them these days feels to me very... tingy, or something to that effect. Like pop music with not a lot of backbone to it. Don't get me wrong, the best part is the songwriting for sure, but the vocals overlaying everything isn't my favorite. High rating from me however because the songs themselves slap. FUCK YEAH SUPERTRAMP!!!
This is another album on constant rotation at every house party back in the day. It still sounds decent. The keyboard melodies carry the tunes. Fortunately I don’t listen to the stations that play 70s stuff over and over again so it hasn’t worn out it’s welcome.
Low end 4
Decent album with great singles. 3.5/5
So… I kind of like Supertramp? Maybe not love, their vocals still kind of annoy me, but the songwriting is solid, some of the best rock-meets-jazz this side of Steely Dan. I like how the sax and even harmonicas are employed in various tracks, in particular. C+
excellent
Unusually enjoyable prog rock. Pretty theatrical album but done well. Bloody well right is brilliant.
Love the obvious hits on this one, and I also loved a number of other cuts ("Rudy" is great). Maybe not really a 4-star, more like 3.5, I was feeling this one as I listened and rounded up. I do like this fusion of jazz and pop — kind of like prog light?
This album introduced me to Supertramp. I knew Dreamer and Bloody Well Right from our local station KOKZ 105.7. Great band !!!
Excellent prog rock.
4 starz
A solid prog rock outing. It's not quite what I thought Supertramp was for some reason
Buen discazo
FFS .. all those songs were on 1 album! Amazing.
Some prog rock banger fun
"School" is a strong start to this album, with an aggressive groove befitting the 1970s. The inspiration of blues and jazz are on full display here during the instrument-only interludes, and then shift almost suddenly to the more rock-elements when vocals are included. It is as though the genres take turns when playing their songs rather than being a blend of them. It creates a break in the attention for each song that honestly is well-received here. "Bloody Well Right" the second track, is a fine example of this. Having been contemporaries, it is difficult not to acknowledge similarities between Supertramp and Pink Floyd. This album in particular, Supertramp has much more variety of instruments where Pink Floyd was a bit more linear as a rock band. Overall, this album is a great experience and lends credence to their deserved place in the discussion of all-time great bands of the 70s.
Having only known Supertramps later hits & Brrakfast in America, I wasn't expecting much from this. I enjoyed the jourmey & listen.
Fine
I really enjoyed this album. Maybe the first new British rock band I liked. Rudy and If Everyone Was Listening were the best. Would listen again!
I wasn't a fan of breakfast in America, so my bar was low, but it was actually a pretty good album. It's not far off from pink Floyd's the wall.
Supertramp I snt on my usual listening list. I pictured it as silly love ballads. Clearly I was wrong.
mega spoko, zwłaszcza Hide In Your Shell
HL: “Bloody Well Right”, “Dreamer”, “Hide in Your Shell”, “Asylum” I’ll swing towards a 4 for this one, I admit to having my parents’ Supertramp Greatest Hits CD playing in the car on at least one occasion. There’s a shared sense of theatrics + pomp with Queen, ELO, Styx, etc, with a little less glam and a little more jazz. Nothing to get overly excited about, but I like it well enough. December 8 2022
I forgot how good this album is.
I really liked this album. I didn't realize how many songs I know by Supertramp and actually ended up listening to a whole second album by them. Will definitely listen again.
I was rockin w this
this album kinda caught me by surprise and I am pleased because it was a great listen.
Bastante agradable.
Pretty good yacht Rocky album. Really liked “Bloody Well Right”. Not my favorite Supertramp album but I enjoyed it.
Very Pink Floyd-y, I like it
4.0
Many great memories listening to this album under headphones. Their best imo.
7/10
Really enjoyed this!
Seems like a bit more fun, but still cerebral pink floyd-esque era band. The tracks are strong and have a varied tone/energy that keeps them engaging. Well enjoyed.
I’m so frustrated that this is the Supertramp album that we get first. Breakfast in America is one of my all-time favorites and kicks the ever loving teeth out of Crime of the Century but here we are. 4.5 Anyway, with that said this is still a very good album in its own right. It still has a lot of the themes of anxiety in youth and change, like in BiA, but it feels like they haven’t committed to it yet. This album is a good example of music is the space between the notes. Every time it would start to lose me all of the bullshit would drop out and it would starting building to a grand catharsis. Almost like it was on purpose. Musically, lyrically and thematically this still hits hard, despite not having any well-known heavy hitters on it. I already own on vinyl. That’s how I listened to this one.
Pretty classic.
I dig indeeed
Once again I had low expectations for this album however I wasn’t amazed The intstrumentals were next and this album really took my mind on a journey School, Rudy, crime of the century and dreamer stood out for me What a great album Happy to be getting into this genre
Prima, goede melodie
This was a decent prog rock album that featured some great musicianship and sprawling suite like songs. Supertramp often features more theatrical pop like song elements that are punctuated by hard hitting prog rock guitar lines and exploratory passages that lend the songs an arresting quality that rewards close listening. This style of writing works well for them and though it is not as good as Pink Floyd or Yes! at their prime, it still resonates.
I very much liked this album
1st song: 5/5 2nd Song: 3.5/5 3rd Song: 3.5/5 4th Song: 5/5 5th Song: 2.5/5 6th Song: 5/5 7th Song: 5/5 8th Song: 4/5 (would be 5/5 if there was more vocals)
I get the hype around it and I think I would use it while I'm studying, but I would not actively listen to it. I usually prefer songs with a harder beat for that. It does, however, imerse you and I like that in an album, you feel a sense of continuity.
Good stuff. Definitely better than expected.
pretty good
Def one of the more underrated 70s band imo. I usually don't like the more "artsy" type of rock but something about Supertramp & the way they mix melody, piano riffs & guitar breakdowns somehow connects with me. I have a couple records of theirs on vinyl but need to keep a look out for this record because "School" & "Rudy" were adds to my Spotify.
Great album all around.
Some high points on this album, but some bland bits too. Definitely a 70s sounds palate, bit of prog rock, ballad etc. Almost gave it a 4 but ultimately decided Better music albums from the mid 70s.
This was a fun listen. Crisply produced prog rock. I could hear a little Pink Floyd in here at times.
Interesante
Man with a harmonica! Thought this was good.
Progressive rock, 1974. The track "School", the best of the whole album, opens this record in the most interesting way possibile and there are also a few other moments on this record where superlative music is played. On the other hand, although the rest of the LP is really solid, it is not enough to be a masterpiece.
Like Rush's weirder English cousin.
Great album with good horns and bloody well right is a great novelty song
It feels like Supertramp understands that the cardinal sin of prog rock is excess. It's not as if they're completely innocent of this charge, but there aren't any 13-minute monster tracks that make you wonder why a producer didn't stop the madness. They get in, do their thing, and change direction before you get super tired of it. Best track: School
This became so much better through headphones. There was so much depth in audio headspace. “Bloody Well Right” is one of my favorite songs I love, but forget about. I always remember “Dreamer” to be a lot poppier than it is (I love when the main melody comes back under a heavier arrangement at the end). The vocals are mixed a little low throughout for me, but to great effect to bring you in for the more intimate moments. Supertramp’s multiple lead vocalists work to great effect.
I know a bit of Supertramp and knew a couple songs on here already. I’ve listened through it before, but this time I gave it more focus. It’s so quintessentially 70s. I love the instrumentation and how it builds throughout the album to culminate at the finale which is also the title track. While it sometimes feels like the lyrics take a backseat to the instrumentation, they come together to make this a memorable album. I’m not surprised this was the breakout album for Supertramp and the one that cemented their sound and influence in the pop genre.
Hvað á man að kalla þetta? Prog-light? Góð plata. Dreamer er eitthvað next level good shit. Langar alltaf að öskursyngja með því.
Enjoyable prog.
3.5/5. Good. I like Supertramp, and I like this album. It's enjoyable to listen to.
A really good album, very much of its time, but with a thoughtful, unique musical point of view. This is music that's really smart and well crafted, but also charming and accessible. Some of the songs are overly long, but musically, the album is solid. I liked it a lot more on the second listen and can tell it would improve immensely on repeated listenings. Fave Songs: Crime of the Century, Dreamer, Rudy, Bloody Well Right, If Everyone Was Listening
Great album top to bottom. School, bloody well right, Asylum and so on. Great instrumentals on piano, harmonica, guitar etc accompanied by big vocals ands sharp lyrics. Could use some inspiration in terms of originality it seems remnant of pink Floyd. Super tramp still has a very unique style in my opinion and stands apart from many bands during the same time period which all sound far too similar
Strong record, not perfect, but favourable.
This was quite an charming album featuring thought provoking lyrics, expansive arrangements and complex time signatures. It's a record to play in the evening when you want to drift off somewhere. I enjoyed the 70s prog keyboard sounds and the way the bass lines add to suspense and the feeling of space. There's lots of drama and theatrical performance (the lead singer has a good vocal range). The best tracks are the quirky numbers 'The Logical Song' and 'Dreamer', but oddly these shorter uptempo pop songs almost seem out of step with the rest of the album. Overall, it's enjoyable if you listen closely and give each track a chance to unfold. And the cover is quite fitting for the spacey sounds within.
Much better than expected. Reminded me of early days Elton John.
Dad pop, though I didn't recognize it as such when Dad showed it - at least Bloody Well Right and Dreamer - to me. In context, even those sillier tracks fit nicely into the Anglo class despair framework: The lyrical material is the right amount of dark, if sometimes a bit brief. Wurlitzer's appearance was appreciated as always, with jazzy touches not much worse than some of the best I've seen. Dynamic range comes through in a big way on the remaster.
4, i like
Great album
Hell yeah
Good mama
Very cool album. I thought it would be straight up funk but this is more blues rock with a funk and disco influence.
What a surprise. A fun listen. Who knew prog-pop was good? (Lots of people, I'm sure)
C'est oui !
Decent. It's interesting that I will listen to long, exploratory / progressive songs from some bands and love them (Pink Floyd, Opeth, Porcupine Tree, Dream Theater sometimes) but it's not universal, I didn't have much patience for the drawn out musical movements on this album, or other bands like Yes. Huh.
Criminally good
Rock setentero. Está bien. Un 4.
pretty damn good.
Did not have Goodbye Stranger but still good
4-, really interesting melodies, I think that album was a fresh thing back in 1974, progressive rock at it's finest
Those Transatlantics recorded with these hippy dudes in the woods near Mt. Pleasant once. I think it was called Woodshop Studio. Anyway, they were really pushing Supertramp on me. The one guy made me a CD-R containing every Supertramp record in low-quality MP3 format. I never really listened to it. This is a great record. The sound. The grooves. The vocals. I don't know where it fits in their catalog, but it has to be a peak moment, right? I expected a lot more cheese. But this is music deserving of a serious listen. I like how there are delicate and quiet interludes/breaks, broken up by meaty crunched out choruses. A band with a lot of instrumental depth. The first two tracks are paced in a way that makes it clear a serious listen (not while working) is warranted. I'll return for another listen, without a doubt.
Like a cross between Elton John and Pink Floyd. I enjoyed this and will listen to more.
I had almost forgotten about these guys. This album was a radio favorite with Dreamer, School, Bloody Well Right. Piano pop with a bit of a prog edge. Holds up pretty well after all these years. They had a very distinctive sound… maybe the Spoon of the 70’s? Probably not….
Excellent. 4/5 Standouts: School, Bloody Well Right, Dreamer Others: Hide in Your Shell, Asylum, Rudy, Crime of the Centrury.
Don't think I've ever listened to Supertramp before - I was expecting some fairly straight ahead classic rock, but they're actually pretty proggy! Could probably do with a few more listens, but yeah, I enjoyed it. Fave track - "Crime of the Century", I think? I liked the opener "School", and the oddness of "Bloody Well Right" too, heh
Pretty good
Great writing and musicianship. Really talented individuals who managed to create something together.
I prefer the poppier sound of "Breakfast in America", but this isn’t bad. This is one of those albums that squeaks by into my collection.
I was a big fan of Supertramp in the early '80s, having bought their albums "Famous Last Words" and "Brother Where You Bound" when they came out, and being very familiar with "Breakfast in America" and their previous 70s hits. I've been thinking about how they had slipped somewhat out of my consciousness since then and how happy I was to hear them again. It was really great to listen to an album early in their success. I always enjoyed "Bloody Well Right" and "Dreamer," and the rest was a lovely discovery. But I can't help but be itching to listen to some of their subsequent work.
First time listening to Supertramp. Great instrumentals, reminiscent of Yes, Genesis, and other prog bands. Good stuff. Favorite song: Asylum
4/5. Shit had bangers, but BRUH they can be annoying
I loved hearing this album. Superb musicians playing tightly crafted songs.
Supertramp is great, overshadowed by later albums but still awesome
great 4
7,5/10
Puts the rock (and pop) in prog rock. A very accessible entry into the genre, this album isn't as heavy on jazz, classical, or straight-up weird techniques that bands like Yes, King Crimson, ELP, or other prog bands had been utilizing earlier in the decade. This is really accessible to public audiences, with a reliance on formulas in rock and blues that have already been well-established, not the slightest bit excessive or pretentious. Songs are a good length. 8 tracks that are each well crafted and dedicated to their time. The longest track is 7:20, allowing songs to have plenty of experimentation and transitions without tiring the audience. It's kinda crazy that their breakout hit "Bloody Well Right" not only happened this album (as opposed to Breakfast in America), but that it hit 35 on the Hot 100. Favorites: School, Rudy, Crime of the Century
4/5
Super weird but I dug it. Listened to it a couple of times and may come back to it. Was hard to describe, in a good way.
Prog rock, solid music.
Magnific. I love "Hide In Your Shell".
Good listen!
8/10 overall enjoyable, although I don’t think all the songs needed to be so long
7/10. Pretty good.
I enjoyed the instrumentation but didn’t really care for the lyrics and vocals. 7/10
Nice piano notes, piano melodies were interesting too
Loved it
Rock setentero. Está bien.
Bastante agradable.
leuk leuk leuk
Qué bandototota es supertrampo
Good, enjoyed it. Can't really remember any of the songs in particular.
Frábær plata.
I do love a bit of Prog-rock. Love the building up in the songs. Dreamer and School are just great fun songs
Man, this is a solid album from start to finish. King crimson vibes, but not as weird.
muy buena música, un álbum muy interesante
Haven't heard it all through yet, but I will. And so far it's a five. What I thought Pink Floyd would sound like.
Bloody Well Right is the only song I knew. I do like the quirky style of this band. The lead vocalist is so distinct. Story songs, very experimental mixing of instruments. Easy listening tracks but never stray too far from the rock.
Crime of The Century is quite dominated by the pop refrains (like Dreamer) , which were still painted with the harmonic complexities and sounds of progressive-rock. (7/10) Favourite Songs: Dreamer, Crime of the Century
Brilliant. Heard it before
Really good.
Well this was a nostalgic ride. I had never listened to the album on a good system until now. This was one of the first albums I loved as a 12 year old. Just like then I had to listen to Hide in your shell twice. What a song. Allmusic.com had it right...4 🌟

// Favs: School / Hide In Your Shell / Dreamer / Crime Of The Century Score: Decent 4
I for sure need to give this one a few more listens, and I will do so. I think it's cool, Lots of what I feel like are Classics. I never listened to this as a album though. For sure just heard them in passing and absolutely enjoyed them in that vein.
A great way to start this project. I’ve never heard of this band or this album, but after the first play through I thoroughly enjoyed every track. It started out strong and leveled out in the middle tracks but finished with a bang in the final 3.
A good prog rock album that I enjoyed. Didn't think I'd enjoy too much from this era but here we are. The woodwind instruments were a nice surprise throughout and fit in quite well. It's a nice listen and I think it would sound awesome on vinyl. Best: School, Asylum Worst: Rudy
Interesting progressions in the character of each song
nice to get familiar with an album from a band i've always enjoyed.
44 min, nice, not every album needs to be close to an hour long. No extra versions either <3 OH OKAY IT STARTED for real @ 1:49. Music is so nice who needs lyrics. Overall pretty nice!
Jeremy Clarkson's favourite album
Right up my street. What I imagine as David Bowie, Queen, Yes and Grateful Dead are mashed together.
Folky rock - perky and upbeat
Classic.
Nice album with a very distinctive sound. I enjoyed it more than I expected.
Great album…. Love this Group!!!
Saved Prior: None Off Rip: School, Bloody Well Right, Hide In Your Shell Cutting Edge: Crime Of The Century Overall Notes: The first three songs are really really good, but it loses its steam as it goes on. The definition of a 3.5 star album, but i'll round up to a 4 because the first three songs are incredible.
In my mind a concept album, and a great one a that. One of the best openings of an album, ever.
Sick album, I loved this.
Excellent! Satisfying funky parts. Overdriven rhythm guitar against cleaner funk guitar sounds good together. Saxes, wind and piano make it all jazzy and joyful, but there are still plenty of sombre and ominous moments. British vocalist sounds great, and backing chorus jumping is fun when it happens. Makes good use of effects and synths. Remastered percussion sounds surprisingly high quality for a recording done in the 80s recording. "Hide in Your Shell" is memorable with it's sax melody in the chorus. "Asylum" has a really desparate but cathartic chorus from the singer. "Dreamer" is very jovial and energetic, with plenty of instruments involved. "Rudy" is more rock than jazz, without the brass, but then ends on an ominous note with violins. A great album, and plenty of variety in mood, tone and texture. But overall, quite uplifting.
Enjoyed this a lot, I quite like prog rock on the whole but normally get irritated by its pompous nonsense, this album leans more into pop than 'bloat' though so was much better. Dreamer is still a shitty track though
J’ai adoré. Doit être encore meilleur en live show!
Spurs were so shit I actually wasn't able to really have any meaningful thoughts on this but I liked it. 7.5/10
Some great shit.
Not bad... has elements of Zepplin? and the Police
Dreamer y school
Un gran clásico. Buenas melodías y ritmos. Pop contagioso
Très bon album, ça s’écoute bien Je l’évite rien de particulier Je lévite school dreamer
Opening thought: this is the perfect boat rock album
Wow. This album is definitely from the 70s. ‘Bloody Well Right’ made me giggle in a good way. ‘Dreamer’ made me feel optimistic which is hard to come by these days. Best track for me has to be ‘Rudy’ though, some fun trippy Prince/Bowie-esque space travel vocals at the half-way mark that ascends into a funky AF string section, via some Miami Vice guitar shizz. I like how unpredictable it is, very-not-Iron-Maiden. Two dongs, way up.
Interesting musically and structurally. Some cool instrumentation. A little jazzy, but rock.
Solid album but not really any standouts for me but no bad songs either.
Kinda funky swag
Definitely heard of Supertramp, didn’t realize they did “Give a Little Bit.” This album started off sooo strong, with School and Bloody Well Right, I was honestly amazed and thinking it could be a 5 star if the momentum kept up. Unfortunately it wasn’t all so powerful. Still a great prog rock album, and I’ll celebrate it for those two opening tracks because damn they were fantastic. Certainly wouldn’t mind more from this group, this went down smooth. Favorite tracks: School, Bloody Well Right, If Everyone Was Listening. Album art: I’ve never even seen this before but I genuinely love it. It looks amazing. The constellation font, the disembodied bars and hands. Really, really great cover. If the album were a bit better I’d want to buy it. 4/5
I liked it alot. Bloody well right is a classic.
Yessir
Had never listened to this full album before. Liked it more than I would have expected.
Great album! Think I like this better than Breakfast in America!!
Love the Tramp
Stabiler vibe
I used to think Supertramp only did weird, quirky music like the Logical song, which would've been hard for a full albums worth. But this was a very pleasant surprise. Dude can really tinkle the ivories
Nice to have heard once more. Two song that are top Spupertramp songs to me. School and Dreamer.
Some solid jams in there. I never listened to Supertramp intentionally before, but found that I already knew a handful of those songs.
better than I thought! uk crossover contemp rock 1970s
Don’t remember much of this album. Not because it was bad, but because I fell asleep listening to it on the bus. I think it was pretty great actually.
Fav Song: Bloody Well Right
Cool album funky fun
Very good fucking record.
Very enjoyable listening experience. Deserving of its place on this list. This was the first time I ever really listened to this band but am curious about their other works.
Great tunes.
Disco maravilhoso, muito bom!
This was pretty solid. I had been wanting to get into Supertramp for ages, but now I have a reason to!
Pop rock, Supertramp, classic. Not my jam.
School är toppen. Resten också bra. Som Queen, kanske t.om bättre?!
Banda por la que arranqué este juego. Ver y conocer data nueva de bandas históricamente conocidas. Prog rock interesante. 6/10
6/10
Fav songs: school and crime of the century Liked the vibe but felt like something was missing. I feel like they have better albums
Notable Textzeile: I said, "Far out, what a day, a year, a life it is!" You know, well, you know you had it comin' to you Now there's not a lot I can do Dreamer, you stupid little dreamer Bei dieser Art Bands muss ich immer erstmal nachgucken ob wir die schon mal hatten und wie ich das da so fand.
Surprising: it was like a jazzy The Wall
It's good, just didn't grab me
I may have to come back to this one but wasn't super impactful on first listen
i will never listen to this again. wish i knew more about this era so i could place them in it
