You know what you are getting with the Ramones. Even though the album if less than 30 minutes, it is hard to sustain interest across the 14 songs here as they merge into each other. Blitzkrieg bop, Judy is a punk and their cover of Do you wanna dance are all decent enough though

Never really listened to The Ramones outside of their bigger songs. Kinda what I expected. Energetic, punk rock / garage rock. Can’t deny their influence, albeit every article ever written about the Ramones’ influence tends to lean more on their style and less on their music. Which kinda shows as theres not a lot of substance here… Some canny tracks surrounded by a very tried and tested formula. Gets old. Quick. Highlights: Now I Wanna Sniff Some Glue, Blitzkrieg Pop, Havana Affair (RHCP do a cracking cover of this)

Sounds very much like, "well, this is punk then". I like the mindless lyrics. Beyond what I expect for punk, the regular, repetitive choruses, and short length of the songs make it quite the punchy album. Blitzkrieg Bop is of course great, and the rest are good but I wouldn't actively choose to listen to this again. Something like a 3.4

Hearing about the Ramones over the years I thought this would be better than it actually was. The album had a couple of great tracks but otherwise they just sounded too similar. I wouldn't listen to this again. Highlights: Blitzkrieg Bop Beat On The Brat Havana Affair

Know the Ramones but don't think I've ever listened to an album. Might be weird to say, but not as punk as I was expecting, dare I say more pop punk.... Thought it would be more hardcore, but guess they likely wouldn't be so appealing to the masses if it were. Didn't quite live up to the heights that I thought it might. Wanted it turned up to 11 and it didn't quite get there. Was quite good though. Short songs, energetic. But lacking the tracks in more familiar with, blitzkrieg bop aside. I'm sure lots of bands I like have this to be thankful for 3.5

The Ramones pumping out these tracks in 1974 in CBGBs must have turned a lot of heads. It was so different than the bloated stuff around at that time. As infectious as Blitzkrieg Pop is, I've never been too fond of it due to it's Bay City Roller-esque chants and the Nazi reference, which Im surprised they never got more heat for. The rest of the tracks sound predictable now but were more groundbreaking then. The Sex Pistols debut from around that time is more more to my tastes, with its anger and anarchistic themes and less of an old time, garage rock &roll feel.

Seminal punk album from a seminal punk band. Stripped down, simple and raw. It started off with a bang with Blitzkrieg bop, Beat on the brat and Judy is a punk, but after awhile it got very repetitive but the album was mercifully short at only 29 mins! I think this may be the shortest album on the list?

7.5/10 Overall I see the ramones as a barebones punk album. I like it, individually most songs are fun and have good vibes. As an album this album really lacks, it’s a very simple formula for most of the songs here. I wish there was a little more feeling than just being punk because you’re bored. There’s no really reason they explain this feeling other than boredom. The album feels like they made it for the idea of how it would sound and not because it resinates with them. Notes got deleted before I saved fuck… First 3 songs are sick. I wanna be your boyfriend is eh I don’t think these simple love songs work with this band. Chain saw -I’m at a weird mix for this song, the chainsaw sample is sick but it still feels pretty forgettable. Now I wanna sniff some glue - this shit is peak punk honestly. If you were to give me the most raw punk it’s for sure screaming kids want to sniff glue.

Blitzkrieg Bop is such a great song. Unfortunately the rest of the album kind of felt like 13 versions of the same song. Maybe I need to spend a bit more time with this release but I can say it has aged well.

First punk album so far I didn't hate and it got even better when it was only 30 minutes long. Loved the rhytmn and speed on this one

I get it, but I don't get it. Some catchy songs but they all start sounding the same. I understand at the time this album blowing minds but I've heard so many rip offs and copycats it's kind ruined the whole buzz of this album.

I'll be completely honest here, I always assumed Ramones were from the UK... turns out my whole life is a lie. I understand Ramones were an important group to the US Punk scene and they certainly have established themselves as one of the better remembered acts from this era. That said, a lot of this particular style of punk doesn't hold much appeal to me. It comes out sounding kind of all a wall of sound without much variation with a few notable exceptions: Blitzkrieg Bop and Beat on the Brat are a great one-two start to the album. Both well written songs in their own right. I also enjoyed the closing two tracks and how they bled together. Fine enough album, but not something I'd listen to of my own accord again. 3 / 5.

Fun, just don’t listen to the words cause they don’t make any sense.

I'd like to thank this album for bringing punk into the mainstream and setting the foundation. It's perfect in so many ways, yet I can't get past the fact that almost every song has the exact same BPM (170-180). However, they did line up the slower songs well - 135 on 4th and 11th songs, 160 on 2nd and 13th - to make things cohesive. Which again, makes it perfect in a way. I don't know how to describe it, but there's something lacking. Maybe it's some lyrical diversity? That's not what punk is about though. I'm confused now. All I can say is that I was not underwhelmed or overwhelmed, just whelmed.

Super fun listen, nothing crazy special about it warranting more than a 3 but enjoyable nonetheless

Still fun, suffers from progenitor syndrome where I have heard so much that was inspired by the band that they seem more straightforward than they were in their time.

The songs are all short, but are all so similar that you could blend them all together and not even notice anything was different. The Nazism references are really weird and off putting - which is a shame because that last song starts to finally show some variation.

Simple, pretty fun. Ballroom Blitz is overplayed to death but it's still fun.

Simple and raw. And the good thing is that if you don't like a song, no worries, it will be over in less than two minutes. "...Basement", and "Loudmouth", surprisingly, actually have some structure and chord progression. The rest of the tracks are indistinguishable from each other. However....see my two minute observation.

Outstanding album and one that I disliked when younger, because it seemed to 'hardcore'. It's funny to me how the sound of albums like that has mellowed in time and possibly when placed in context of how heavy music later got. Anyhow, I love the sound of just about every song on here, even the seemingly trite ones like Now I Wanna Sniff Some Glue.

I’m glad I finally listened to a Ramones album. I need to explore more. Some of the tracks (I’m looking at you 53rd & 3rd) feel flat, which holds the album back for me. I want to feel more of the energy.

Highlights: It's consistent -- take your pick. Let's say "Blitzkrieg Bop," "Havana Affair," and "53rd and 3rd" This does sound pretty fresh without quite being able to put a finger on what sets it apart from other rock at the time. Minimal harmony and rhythm with maximum energy. The bass at the core just hammering the root in eighths as hard as it can all day long. The relentless straight beat of something like Deep Purple but drifting away from any blues backbone into a tight pop package. This won't come across as praise, but in this context it's hard to imagine Devo and everything they influenced without the Ramones. Ramones also dare to be stupid without being as doctrinaire about it. More just cynical. Lyrically, this can work against them; you just have to take it in good faith that whether they're singing about pulp touchstones or singing from the perspective of Nazis, operatives, and bigots, it's all with some jaded detachment. If it's any kind of statement, it's either just exposition or just despair, or both. But the music is the perfect counterbalance. That's punk, dead or alive.

The US is better than England at everything (winning wars, food, dental care, etc) and especially punk music. I barely understood what he said, but I felt what he meant cuz this music has balls, unlike the British punk we've listened to so far.

Obviously a classic punk record. It's a good album, if only because the songs are literally too short and sweet to overstay their welcome. Outside of the classic singles there wasn't too much in the B-sides that stuck out except for "Let's Dance" which is the only song to introduce instruments other than guitar, drum, and bass. I like the Ramones, they're an easy and reliable listen.

first three songs are great and set the template for EVERYTHING else, of course. one of those bands for which you appreciate the influence but don't really want to hear again

all of these songs sound the same this is another punk group that seems soooooo so tame by today's standards but was totally revolutionary when it came out. some of the shit on PUP or IDLES records would make joey ramone shit his pants this album and the rest of the ramones work deserves credit, because it's the form that has been innovated upon 10 times over. ramones and contemporaries inspire 80s punk and new wave which inspires a million genres in the 90s and the permutations of influence are endless and exist in part because of albums like this but at the same time, while appreciating that, i can say that this album is lowkey boring by today's standards and is kind of a slog to listen to. it's alright, in the purest sense of the word. the chord progressions are same-y, every chord is on a down-stroke, the gang vocals are present in every track, and you can't even understand what they're all saying half the time. it's usually just [girl's name] is a [descriptor] i think? eh. i can't complain. there are worse albums on this worse, and there are better. this one is important, but it feels very corporate. when your songs are used in a marvel movie, that's where your punk cred goes to die

this is a chaotic album. to be fair, i think i'd call any album with a song titled "now i wanna sniff some glue" to be chaotic, but i stand by my assessment. it's clear there was a lot of fun involved in the creation of this album and they didn't take themselves seriously. it's fascinating how the ramones knew their sound immediately from their debut album. to open with "blitzkrieg bop" is real balls to the wall energy. a good album but sometimes lackluster. their hits are amazing, but some of the others are just okay. as always, it's very interesting to listen to a famous artist's debut album to see their start.

I was surprised how fast this album went by. While part of that was due to the short and sweet album length (14 songs coming in at less than 30 minutes), part of the issue was that, frankly, this album was just incredibly repetitive. Several tracks blended together and honestly sounded like they could have been the same song. While this album was fine, I honestly just think it had been hyped up for me too much over the years, not to mention the insurmountable Blitzkrieg Bop sets a high bar. Nevertheless, I was glad to finally listen to it and experience the legacy of the Ramones.

I understand the influence and history behind why this is such an awesome album but I had a listen while I was working from home and it’s not exactly work music. Wish I could have been in an upbeat environment for this listen.

I like punk and it's cool to hear their first album and hear their sound. the songs are all really similar and i can't understand what they are saying but it's still fun to bop your head to. the songs all kind of blend together and the beats are similar but i still like it. blitzkrieg bop is the stand out because it's slightly different than the other songs, but if you've heard one you've heard them all.

Fun but like all punk, gets old fast. Loved "I Don't Wanna Walk Around with You" Important record and neat to hear as it influences music to this day but will probably not listen to the whole thing again.

Classic 70s punk from the Ramones, Blitzkrieg Bop is still popular today

Nostalgic, one of my intros to punk rock—the catalyst being they allowed me to discover albums and bands I think are so much better, so the Ramones don’t cross my mind as much anymore! Fun to revisit for the first time since I was a teenager.

It's pretty good, but nothing really stood out on the production end or with the lyricism.

Compared to other punk albums, this is definitely the most beginner friendly and softest one, with visible pop influences. However that doesn't change the fact that the music itself is still not good and memorable enough for me to justify 4 stars

A very historical album that I felt was a lot faster when I first listened to it back in the late 70's. The brothers with the eldest(?) Marky, number one son(?) DeeDee, big brother(?) Johnny, and the oldest(?) Joey, make up the quartet. They brought us the debut album of original hits and punk rock anthems. A record that is a total reflection of my past. Love it.

Critique of the structure is easy: It all does sound the same. But that's only part of the (admittedly simple) package. Compared to much of punk, the Ramones manage to do something musically different on each track, though the second half blends in a disheartening way. It's straight to the point, it's rowdy, easy to listen to, but never quite predictable. At least not in all the ways.

A foundational band to the bands I like and to many of the peoples who music opinions I trust most. So disappointed to just find this OK.

There are several tracks from the Ramones that I really like, including my favorite track on this album ("Blitzkrieg Bop"). I'm not sure if I have listened to this album before, but if I did it was probably only once 25 years ago. For being so short, the album starts to drag on after a bit. You could jump from the middle of one track to the middle of another track and have a hard time determining if it was a different song or not. Everytime I listen to the Ramones, I wonder how it would be to be in their band and play live. I couldn't play a full show. The lack of dynamics and limited length of the tracks would be hard on my attention span. There were some surprises on this album. I wasn't expecting the harmony vocals on "Chain Saw". Overall, the album was okay, but I wouldn't put this album on repeat.

Punk was both protest against certain trends in politics and society as it was against established trends in (especially rock) music. This is proto punk - three chords and the truth, bass, guitar, drums and vocals. You cannot get more basic than this. The whole records has a balls-to-the-wall energy, but lacks variation. It's hard to distinguish the individual songs. But this energy ... 3/5

It's a nice album, goes really fast. Nothing exceptional but it was a nice listen although it gets a bit repetitive by the end.

The Ramones have a classic sound that's easily recognized. I think what saved this album was its length. There are a lot of similar-sounding songs on this album so if it were any longer it would have got too repetitive. All in all, it wasn't bad.

I’ve definitely have heard some songs from them before and was honestly really excited to see this album for the day. I was disappointed to say the least. All the songs sound the same and there is only that one hit. Great rock feel but overall disappointing.

Alright debut, the best tracks are definitely the ironic Blitzkrieg Bop and Beat on the Brat, aside from that this is both their first album and widely recognized as the first punk album, so it was definitely growing pains.

Please Kill Me if I ever have to listen to this again!

All the fun songs on the album are brought down by random short songs that all sound the same.

Un album évidemment surcôté même si certains passages sont notables ; je pense notamment à celui où Ronaldinho enchaîne sombrero, virgule, rebond du ballon contre le mur et enfin but.

J'ai l'impression que les différents sites de critiques musicaux, s'amusant à faire des classements proposant toujours cet album des Ramones en très bonne position, se sont bien foutus de ma gueule pour rester poli. Petit coup de coeur pour le premier titre de cet album, mettant en scène différent joueurs de foot extrêmement techniques, effectuant des dribbles chaloupés sur différents terrains délabrés du monde entier. Une belle touche sportive qui laissait augurer du meilleur, malheureusement je n'ai par la suite pas été convaincu.

Na plus "Beat on the Brat" oraz genialny "Btlizkrieg Bop", który absolutnie uwielbiam, ale zapętlony blisko 14 razy może się nieco znudzić (chociażby "Loudmouth" mnie dosyć mocno zirytował bo był absolutnie odtwórczy). Nudne ze względu na powtarzalność (a jednak jest to 14 utworów), ale jako mini-album tak do 5 piosenek byłby super.

Fun album. Definitely groundbreaking when one puts it in the time and context of its release. Love the raw simplicity that also has interesting layers and genuine musicianship. I can easily imagine how energetic this all must have been in concert, especially given that there really wasn't too much like it out there at the time. They are sneakily poppy, too. Real hooks, catchy melodies. Clever songwriting and performances. Not at all hard to hear how much of their sound appears in so many bands to follow.

The one about being the boyfriend of a little girl dated it and gave me the creeps, but in general I really felt their sound and vibe and wanted to jump around to it, found i drifted off as the album went on but that does often happen with these things. Would be interested to hear about the experience of someone who really loves loves this album

Good album that was supposedly a big punk album back in the day. I knew a couple of the songs and they were great. Many of the others on the album sound similar but aren’t as good. The album is quick and most of the songs blend together. Overall it’s above average. 6.5/10

I love when they play that one song, and then they play it again, and again, and again. Sure, they're classic, but they're so repetitive. I'll stick to their greatest hits, one at a time.

The best of this album IMO: - Blitzkrieg Bop Vocals are a bit too much the same over and over. Riffs too. Like if you've heard one of their songs, you've heard them all. 2.7/5

Just very repetitive. I understand the draw but it's not genius.

Is it pacing, a lack of stamina or simply a ride on the underground having to stop every couple of minutes. Urgent, ballsy and maybe re-breaking the ground but it can't be taken seriously. It's rock and roll after all.

Blitzkrieg Bop is a classic but this whole album was incredibly samey. Enjoyable but I doubt I'd listen through the whole thing again

Some decent tunes but overall felt a little repetitive. I can see how this was ground breaking for the time and helped to birth a new sub-genre but that sub-genre has since grown up and moved out of home. Solid 3/5.

I was really excited to listen to this album, but it ended up being a bit of a letdown. Blitzkrieg Bop is obviously a classic, Beat On The Brat had me grinning at the lyrics, but then it descended into a series of samey riffs that didn't do much to inspire me, even the cover of Let's Dance felt a little flat. I feel like this is one of those albums more notable for the time and place it was made rather than the quality of the contents.

You can see where so many bands have got their influence from. I just prefer a cleaner sound. Even though this is an iconic album, it's just a solid album for me.

Songs are short, fast, and fun but kind of all the same. I can appreciate the album's importance for its time and its influence on other bands. And who doesn't love chanting "hey ho let's go"? But as a whole, the record doesn't exactly speak to me personally at this point in my life.

Fun album! But none of the tracks really stood out as a different style.

Fun yet repetitive. At times felt like one continuous song. Made me want to play a Tony hawk playstation game.

14 songs - 29 minutes. :D I tend to lean towards big/anthemic/complex rock and pop music so the idea of a slab of short punk songs with a few power chords wouldn't necessarily be in my A-list collection. But this is what it is and it's fun which is the point. No tracks longer than 2:39 which was absolutely the right call - no need for solos or belaboring the (minimal?) points - this is a quick half-hour of smiling and banging your head with good simple melodies and just when you're about to be sick of it...it's done. Even for someone (me) whose first choices would be music with advanced musicianship, lengthy passages and new reveals upon each listen, this actually does have an important place. Don't think - just rock. 7/10 3 stars

я в целом не очень люблю панк. а американский ещё меньше. несмотря на всю увлекательность, что несёт собой панкуха как движение, на серьёзке слушать её невообразимо скучно. но, должен признать, Рамонес всё же не самая унылая банда из тех, что доводилось встречать. конечно, попыток в оригинальность, как у Базкокс, здесь не найти, но вообще сделано приятно и с живой задоринкой. Thus said, ничего интересного собой этот альбом всё равно не несёт. пожалуй, песни отсюда даже хуже всего остального материала, что я слышал у Рамоны. Поэтому впечатление — чистой воды Meh. Пролетает незаметно, ничего в сознании не задевает, все песни слишком короткие и примитивные, чтобы как-то с них угареть. 5/10, не больше.

classic punk rock band with a good collection of songs on this album.

A nugget of the origins of US punk rock - what more to say? A bunch of classic tracks (Blitzkrieg Bop, Judy Is a Punk, I wanna Be Your Boyfriend, I Don't Wanna Walk Around With You) and even one invoking the Texas Chainsaw Massacre. Makes me wanna grab my guitar and bop along!

Classic punk. I love the aesthetic. It’s pretty iconic. Their sound is influential, but homogenous. Not super creative in the songwriting department.

It's a toe tapper, but I think if you removed the silent gaps in between the tracks, in some cases you wouldn't notice you were listening to a new song. Couple of exceptions in there but come on lads, mix it up a bit.

It's a punk rock band, and it does it well. Some of the songs sound exactly the same but with different muddled, unclear lyrics since their drums and guitar don't change rhythms/chords through each song, but overall, their sound is good even if it is repetitive. Favorite track: Blitzkrieg Bop

24th June 2021 Listened in my headphones in the morning while working. It's like a short, sharp punch to the face of an album. Driven on by rhythmic bass and pounding drums, you get in, thrash about and get out. Great fun.

Thought #1: I cannot get over these hair styles.

Hey ho let’s go!! Beat-on-the-brat I like it, Sounds like a mix of punk and new ageyness. Now I want to Sniff some glue lol. I’ve always heard of the Ramones as masters of 3 chords and that their songs “all sound the same”. Not usually a fan of punk that’s just noise, but Ramones is like punk energy that’s catchy as fuck.

For an album that was barely a half-hour long, it was pretty good. I don't feel like I know the band any more than I did before listening, but I enjoyed it.

It’s the Ramones, man

This kind of thing always seems strangely tame for the controversy it stirred in it's time. The "slide 40th Anniversary Edition" with it's endless remixes, mono remixes, original stereo and mono album versions, live cuts and demos seems decidedly un-punk somehow. Still all part of the Hit Machine.

Just New York being cool as fuck again. Young, dumb and full of... you know... ;). Simultaneously deliberate and ramshackle, which makes it intoxicating.

A lot of fun and upbeat. Save for the most popular songs, the rest felt too similar and unoriginal, like rehashes with the same upbeat rhythm.

Enjoyable album with catchy songs however it tended to get very repetitive.

I love the story of the Ramones, I love the idea of the Ramones and I love all the bands would never have existed without their inspiration. But their albums are patchy. On this, there are a handful of genuinely great songs, and then several more that are almost the same, but less memorable. Very much a band where a good compilation of the best songs is all you need to hear (I recommend the two disc Ramones Anthology)

The Ramones… Door het eerste liedje, wat iedereen op aarde toch wel hoort te kennen, moet ik om de een of andere reden altijd denken aan Scott Pilgrimm against the world. Het voelt een beetje als de start van boze tienermuziek…? Misschien heeft deze muziek wel geleidt naar de treinramp die wij kennen als Tokio Hotel?

Ik word altijd een beetje simpel van punk muziek. De ramones waren de eersten die deze muziek succesvol maakte, maar van mij had dat niet per se gehoeven. Ze waren de eersten met punkmuziek en dat maakt het tegelijk toegankelijker en simpeler. Het is nog wel heel erg pop met “ hey ho let’s go!” En meezingrefreintjes.

I understand that they were revolutionary, but this album was boring beyond belief.

The album might have been iconic at the time, but I'm not sure it holds up. Very simple riffs that aren't particularly catchy and a droney, repetitive voice. The punk scene might have been better off for the Ramones, but my evening wasn't.

I've never been a Ramones fan. Their music lacks any depth beyond preschool potbanging.

One of those early punk bands that feel like they’re more about the image than the sound, you know? I’ve never disliked them, but I’ve also never thought “oh boy I’d really like to listen to the Ramones right now!” outside of “Blitzkrieg Bop,” which is excellent. Anyway, this album is fine. Probably crazy in its time, kind of forgettable these days.

Quick, punchy, and inoffensive. That said, severely repetitive.

Never been a huge fan but this is a decent album. You can definitely hear the inspirations for modern punk.

First off, Blitzkrieg Bop, great song. However, I did not want to hear it 13 more times in 2 minutes intervals. Almost everything song on this sounds exactly the fucking same. It wasn't bad at all, but it's still the exact same shit for half an hour. Also, why did they pronounce massacre like massa-kree?? Favorite Track: Blitzkrieg Bop

I really didn't liked it. it was a nice listen but all of the tracks sounds the same, with a lot of songs with stupid lyrics. they were groundbreaking so I still respect this album

I was going to try and pick a favourite track from the list but I found them all blurring together a bit. The consistent sound on the album reminded me a bit of a couple of the grungier King Gizzard albums, Willoughby's Beach and I'm in your Mind Fuzz come to mind. This album has a cleaner sounding mix than either of those: I don't know how I feel about this. I think I like it less here than in Mind Fuzz, as that album uses a contrast of sounds across its length to build narrative, and while the lyrics across songs tie together a bit, the mostly constant sound means I didn't feel much of an emotional contast across Ramones' short length. (This all feels a bit surface level. I imagine this is likely to be common with only having a day for each!)

i thought i already had this. i was thinking of the clash. this is largely unpleasant. i like punk. it’s too pop for me to enjoy it as punk, but not pop enough for it to be enjoyable to listen to. it’s grown on me, just a little.

Was quite let down by this album. First one so far where I actually know one of the songs ‘Blitzkrieg Bop’ which I do quite like, but was hoping for more variety from the other songs. It all seems to mash together and get very repetitive after a few songs. Not the biggest fan of the frontman’s voice either, kinda gets a bit draining after a while as well. I’d like to think on further albums their sound and direction get a lot better and more thought out. I’ll give them their flowers however for helping set the foundation for punk rock, hearing that bands like Green Day and The Sex Pistols wouldn’t be around without them is super cool. They managed to see something in this that I didn’t.

Der Beginn des Punkrock…. war leider noch nie mein Ding. Blitzkrieg Bop als Einstieg prägt direkt den britischen Vibe des Albums (auch wenn die Ramones aus US kommen). In allen Liedern zieht sich das Problem für mich durch, dass die frühen Punk Alben nicht gut abgemischt klingen. I wanna be your boyfriend erfrischt das Album mit seinem poppigerem Sound. Der Gesang geht mir nach der Hälfte des Album dann doch eher auf die Nerven als dass er die Tracks trägt. Häufig sind die Texte sehr einfach gehalten aber weder besonders politisch noch witzig.

This album may have been a novelty for its time, but it doesn’t hold up now. I can see how it’s appealing to punk fans, but there’s a reason why punk is a subculture and not a culture. The overall album is very repetitive -- the same warm guitar riffs and poor vocals, and its only saving grace is the hit song Blitzkrieg Bop, which is only slightly catchier than the other songs.

This album would probably seem better if I was alive at the time it was released; From my modern perspective however, this is good but not the masterpiece I was expecting. I suppose it's my problem then.

Just sounds like messy noise for the entire album. Like one big long song that someone who just learned how to play yesterday put together. I understand they had a significant impact on the culture at the time but this just was not for me.

As much as I enjoy Blitzkrieg Bop, every other track sounded like Blitzkrieg Bop but worse. Didn't like this album nearly as much as I thought I would. I appreciate its influence and don't think its terrible, but I have no reason to come back to it.

Ehh, I don't want to play the hater's gambit and say "I wanted to like it but...." BUT I did expect more from the album that produced Blitzkrieg Bop. And even listening to Blitzkrieg as the first song on the album I was thinking to myself "Damn I wish this hadn't been used by so many cringey boomers in advertising, Movies, and Video Games," because there was a time where I liked this song quite a bit and it's unfortunately the highpoint of the album right at the top of the tracklist. I hate to say it because it gets said a lot but the album is essentially the same song throughout... Maybe I'll warm up to this after society stops using the "Hey! Oh! Let's Go!" as a chant but that will be on the dying lips of every person that is right now 50 or above. I feel like such a hater. I like punk! I swear I like punk!!

Really just don’t get it. Here we have some of the most basic instrumentation imaginable paired with lyrics that sound like they were written by a 22 year old high schooler. I understand that this is a very influential album for punk music, but influencing something I don’t like doesn’t earn you extra points. This just seems kind of dorky. Which is fine if you’re a bit self aware about it, but I don’t get that here.

Although I am happy that the Ramones helped pave the way for a certain kind of punk rock music, I never really cared for them. There's a few songs of theirs that I find quite energizing. Sheena is a punk rocker and I want to be sedated come to mind. This album doesn't really do it for me. It's okay. It's just not great.

Outside of Blitzkrieg Bop, I was coming into this fresh. Honestly, I was super underwhelmed. If you take out the name, and just blindly listen, this record is pretty lame. I was expecting some aggressive, in your face punk. This was so much softer and poppy than expected. Which kind of put it in a weird middle ground of not good pop/rock or punk/hard rock. Don’t really get the appeal outside of it being the Ramones. 2/5.
