Oh, it’s the one that goes ‘ey, oh, let’s go’. This was where the album peaked. By the end of it I just wanted it to be over. Thank fuck it was only 29 minutes long.

It's fun, simple, straight ahead rock. I could die a happy person if I never hear Blitzkrieg Bop again, but otherwise a very fun album that's easy to listen to with short catchy songs.

This is way too boring to be so popular, what the hell is going on. Blitzkrieg Bop is a decent opener right up until you realize that's the only song on the album. A 29 minute runtime is a grace from God. If I was in the 80s and this was the only album I had, I think I'd not give a fuck about music.

While I do find the album a bit repetitive at times, it’s undeniably a staple in the punk world and deserves respect for what it represents. Despite its flaws, I genuinely enjoyed listening to it.

All of the albums on this list are significant but this is the only one that matters.

Too repetitive, every song sounded the same and not particularly interesting compositions

The debut album of the Ramones, a record which shook the world. I remember my older brother playing this at high volume, and being truly amazed. From the opening “Blitzkrieg Bop”, it starts at 100 mph and doesn’t let up. This is not virtuoso, but they play fast. The songs are short and sweet, 14 tunes in 29 minutes! Lyrically, the songs are not to be taken seriously, from “Beat on the Brat (with a baseball bat)” to “Now I Wanna Sniff Some Glue”, this is simply fun. Full disclosure, not only have I owned this album sine the late 70’s, I saw the Ramones live at a small club in Ohio in 1978…. And it was an experience to remember. The only downside with the Ramones it that they are pretty much a 1-trick pony. But what a trick it is. Well worth having. 4/5

Well this album definitely flies by. The Ramones have a pretty signature "sound" and that's very evident in this album. As a result a lot of this album sounds very similar, save for the two singles and a select few tracks. Very uptempo, as was much of "first wave" punk rock during this era. Punk rock definitely evolved to better things in my opinion, but this was part of punk rock's foray into the mainstream radio and I can appreciate that.

The album that inspired a generation of punks to take rock & roll back to basics. Fantastic stuff.

Total eye opener the first time I heard it so many years ago. A game changer in the music world. A forever favourite. Of all the albums so far this one is probably in the top 5 as far as number of times I'd previously listened to it prior to this.

Blitzkreig Bop, in a tad over two minutes, is the definition of punk. Full stop. It was 1976. It was the first of 14 songs over 29 minutes which would never be bettered by the genre on either side of the Atlantic. Forget the Sex Pistols, the Undertones, Buzzcocks, Green Day or The Clash. It started and ended here. The iconic album cover, again, was the start and end of what purists will know as punk. Vivien Westwood and Malcolm McClaren were just fashonista compared to this. Anybody can play this music but that isn't the point. The point is The Ramones played it first. I'm not sure whether a whole album over-eggs the pudding. Because, put simply,Blitzkriegt Bop alone - for its cultral importance and sonic efficiency - gives this the 5 stars alone.

Even though many might consider The Ramones a pioneer of (American) punk, this brand of punk isn't as angry as that of The Sex Pistols or The Dead Kennedys. Not sure I would really label it punk at all. The tunes are catchy, but the opening anthem aside, all the other songs sound the same. Same rhythm. same beat, similar lyrics. Good album, worthly of this list, but not amazing.

Peak Punk with catchy guitar riffs and hooks, fun album!

I mean, it’s kind of entertaining but it chunders along in the same deliberately dumb vein

Pink Flag, The Clash, Television, Sex Pistols, and The Talking Heads would all release next year and are all 10x more interesting. The best thing I can say about this album is that it inspired better bands, and blitzkrieg bop is a fun song. I don't hate the Ramones and I wouldn't turn them off, but I just find them really boring most of the time. When loudmouth came on I had to check to make sure the album wasn't repeating. I wonder if any other reviews mentioned that all of the songs sound the same? 2.5 (rounding down)

Ah the Ramones. Good stuff here. Pioneers in the punk era. So influential to so many others that came after them. Funny to think that these guys were considered controversial, they seem so mellow and innocent compared to what there is now in terms of controversial. I did finish the album. Good stuff. I'm torn between 4 and 5...

This is difficult. On one hand, every song was essentially the same song over and over again. On the other hand, blitzkrieg bop is a really good song. This is like a 4.5 rounded up

Blitzkrieg Bop is certified fun. But oh god did they use to make rock music for us guys lmao, like just only guitar chord progressions and drums, not super interesting in the modern day. Lmao Blitzkrieg Bop starts with "AO", but Chain Saw starts with "OA" and sounds similar. I rest my case.

I know they are historically significant, but I have never been able to get into them.

I respect what this album did to music birthing the punk scene. Listening closely I did enjoy the guitar playing in a way I was unable to enjoy when I was younger. I may go back and listen to a few songs but I really dont listen to them for enjoyment so I would give this a 4, but know it should be a 5.

Four stars just because it's Ramones, one of the founders of punk rock. But is their sound really that different from just rock'n'roll? I mean, what kind of punk band has a tambourine? As far as I can tell, the main innovation in the music is the way the guitars sound different. The punk essence is mostly in the edgy lyrics and general attitude. Anyway, "Blitzkrieg Bop" is a classic, and the rest of the tracks are only relevant, again, as an important bit of music history.

While this is an enjoyable enough of a listen, it does get aggravating after a little while. It's repetitive nature definitely doesn't help with this. Luckily it's short enough that they can get away with it. I can recognise the influence on Punk and this album is important for sure, but I'm not sure I'm going to want to come back to this anytime soon. Despite all that, I still think it's a 3/5. I get why this album was so impactful at its time but I have never been fan of the punk genre in the first place and i find the songs very repetitive. All of this making it quite hard to really appreciate it so many years later.

Good. Fast and fun! Though a little samey.

Punk must be the most ironic genre out there. A genre that is usually political, anti-authority, anti-establishment, anti-mainstream... Then you have band alike Sex Pistols who are outfitted by one of the most prolific fashion designers in the world, Vivian Westwood.. You get songs by the Ramones like 'I Wanna Be Your Boyfriend' - which is pretty bubble gum pop - or a song that could've been written by Donny Osmond or Barry Manilow but with those 3 chords that punk rockers only know. I this album those 3 chords are basically only used. In different order of course! They stay true to the punk definition of not complicated and minimal instruments. Vocals aren't bad. As far as punk goes. But this album is basically the same riff and drum beat the whole way through. I would love to sit down and talk about punk rock to someone who is very passionate about it. Because I don't get its appeal.

I spent the entire duration of this reading the same comments from one guy on youtube. They're mostly incoherent, but there's a certain charm to the more understandable ones so I tried to translate one 「To be honest. I heard Romanes like this. Year 1978. We're in the Volga delta. Tourists. It's dark already. We have a radio. We throw the wire in a tree. Ooh! Oh my god. Here. Here! I remember. The rythm. Romanes. Oh my chic Romanes!」 The thought of a guy who seems to be off his rocker reminiscing about the time he got to hear "Romanes" is pretty romantic. I believe him when he says they are "special in the mouth". Even if I don't see it that way.

As straightforward and punk rock as it gets, if you don't like one song just wait two minutes and it'll change! This was a great shot of adrenaline for where I'm at in the project, and the easy-going cool of the Ramones' execution made for an easy listen. Sometimes all you need is a few chords and 1-2 minutes to just lay it all out there.

In a nutshell: a starter pack to early punk rock. The only bummer on this album is the slow track "I Wanna Be Your Boyfriend", which sounds like it was played under duress. Overall: 8/10

This project's insistence on the album format is sometimes fatigueing. Some of the best songs in the history of recorded music, are found on albums that are not really that notable. Ramones deserves a spot in musical history. This is, however, not a very good album. Listen to Blitzkrieg Bop and Havana Affair, and take the rest of the day off. 2.1

This was a fun one! It was quick (wonder what their concerts were like?) but all was enjoyable. At the time they were so cutting edge, but in the context of today they would fit right into the Alt Rock genre (a lot of bands must consider them a big influence). Fun to hear them at their career beginning for what must have just been a fun few days of writing, recording and partying.

Fun intro into the origins of punk, most the album sounds pretty similar to me (same guitar riffs and themes) but was a fun listen.

Ok, I like the Ramones but apparently in small doses. A whole album was tough. Everything sounded the same and I was waiting for it to end. I feel like you could just listen to Blitzkrieg Bop and it would be like you've heard the rest of them. Maybe teenage me would've been more into it?

I don’t know why, but the Ramones have always reminded me of speeded up ‘50s teeny-booper rock. Pretty repetitive & a bit boring, but I do appreciate that it’s the founding of a genre. As someone else said, could be fun to have on in the background of a party. Glad I heard it, but wouldn’t listen to it again. There’s a huge difference between ‘good’ music & ‘interesting’ music, & every single person gets to decide what that is for themselves. When this album abruptly ended after 20-something minutes, everyone in the room said “Huh. That was interesting.”

I remember these guys from Rock & Roll High School. I like the Ramones, so I enjoyed listening to the album, but I don't understand why it's in this list.

It's good for what it is. All the songs are similar and I think not very interesting. This is an album I would listen to every 10 years or so and that would be enough.

Hey! Ho! Let's go! Yeah, this album is awesome. Fast, frenetic beats. A guitar that never stops strumming. Sometimes that neverending guitar strum gets in the way of any real rhythm. Joey Ramone's vocals often sound like he's got cottonballs in his mouth and many of the songs' themes are a total mystery to me. "Beat on the Brat?" What brat? Who gives a shit, beat him with a baseball bat! Oh yeah! Oh yeah! Oh oh ooooh. Why did they write a song about CIA activities in Cuba? Who cares! I don't mind nonsensical songs that have a great beat. Punk is alive in this album. The amateur, garage band melodies feel authentic and fun. For years, I've been listening to a tribute album of Ramones songs made by bands like Metallica and U2, which I still prefer, but I did enjoy listening to the original stuff. This music has me tapping my foot and yelling "fuck ya!"

Punk is not my thing, I find it mindless and uninteresting.

I mean, this is pretty iconic being the Ramones’ first album. True garage/punk rock. Love the early grit vibe. That being said, all the songs start to sound very similar as the album goes on and the sound quality is lacking, but loved hearing their first album.

Some great songs but I feel like there isn't much variation in the album overall.

Didn’t know that I knew any of these songs, but I played blitzkrieg bop and immediately recognized it without realizing that it says blitzkrieg bop. Its primary repetition is of “hey ho lets go.” also accidentally listened to beat on the brat. Both are honestly a groovy vibe that feels very much like it would be playing in a 70s or 80s movie. could see myself having been into them if I lived during that time.

I can't hear Blitzkrieg Bop without thinking of the movie Accepted. I can still picture Justin Long singing that song on stage at a college party. I love that movie! One of the most classic and greatest punk albums of all time, Had The Ramones not existed, we probably wouldn’t have Social Distortion, Bad Religion, The Misfits, Black Flag, Green Day and blink-182 probably wouldn’t exist without the impact of this album if it never existed.

Meh—tedious head-bob fluff.

A pretty good punk album. This definitely set the stage for the faster, noisier punk that would follow. The lyrical themes are all over the places, from growing up to love to nonsensical. Punk doesn't need to make sense though, so no one begrudges them a bit of glue sniffing here or there. Overall, a fun, tight, noisy album.

Ik weet dat muzikanten en produceren hiermee weglopen, maar ben ik nou echt de enige die vind dat de nummers allemaal op elkaar lijken.

Nooit veel aan gevonden. Elk nummer is een hele minimale variatie op steeds dezelfde gitaar riff. Destijds denk ik wereldschokkend, wat deze mannetjes deden, maar ik vind het echt rete suf.

There’s not much to say about this album because it’s the ramones, the lasting name in American punk and the entire concept of garage rock. Each song radiates teenage energy in the 70s with blitzkrieg bop still being the top track. It was also interesting to hear let’s dance on here because I only know that from the animal house soundtrack and can’t tell which one is the cover.

Not usually my thing, but it was pretty alright and I can hear how it influenced later no punk albums. Also Blitzkrieg Bop is one hell of a song to start your first album with.

I can confess that I didn't have I had a lot of expectations, due to the music being seen as simple and without many variations between them I thought it would be tiring to listen to it, but Its dynamism and variations within possibilities were truly a surprise. For sure my favorite classic punk album

One gear, three chords. Is it the start of punk? That’s what everyone says but it’s not the best early punk but it’s a fun, harmless punk record.

Man, I just don’t care. I don’t like punk, and in terms of punk, it’s above average. But every song sounds the exact same. Usually if I can’t pick a top 3, it’s because almost every track was awful. But here, I just can’t tell the difference. None of them stand out in the slightest, except for Blitzkrieg Bop. But even that sounds like all the other ones, it’s just a slightly better song. Totally mediocre album. Not impressed. 4/10 Top 1: 1. Blitzkrieg Bop

I Don't Wanna Give This Rekkid A Bad Review. Not every song of the 14 is going to be as top shelf as Blitzkrieg Bop, Beat on the Brat, Judy Is a Punk, but it's all good catchy punk rock all the way through to the end: Today Your Love, Tomorrow the World. An excellent rallying cry!

The original and the best. It’s the sort of album where I wish I had a Time Machine so that I could here it when it was first released to truly understand how it exploded

One of the ur-texts for punk. 1 2 3 4! Fast, hard and deliberately dumb. Ridiculously fun. Anti pc before there was such a concept. If I say I prefer the heartbreakers it’s not that I don’t like this. And a lot more subtle than you’d expect this to be. End of the century is one of the great documentaries. 4.5.

My first listen to the Ramones. Oh yeah, okay. A punk sampler - 2 minute tracks. Short sassy and a catchy very basic driving beat. Mumbled garage rock with a real brit style (are they faking a brit accent - punk is the ultimate pose after all - sounds so british to me, I didnt pick this as American, let alone boys from Queens, N.Y. ). Not sure who influenced whom, but apparently its essential punk listening. Why does Blitzkrieg Bop sound like "bleets geet fuk"? Its the defiant Idontgiveshit attitude of the genre. Wide variety of topics covered, playfully. I guess these were the bad boys of the time and kids would have loved it. Some good playful music for a punk party and mucking around. But don't listen too carefully, it gets boring and repetitive. A bit simple, very repetitive. If they did what their lyrics suggest, like sniff glue, the brain damage would be immediate. So, I've done it... good to know them finally, after seeing the iconic t-shirts for decades... Looking for the bright side - the most 'fun and catchy ones were the Banana song "Havana Affair", "Let's Dance" is okay, adn I recognised the thunderous propulsive ( there's that word again) drive of "Blitzgreig Bop" I started to hear influence they must have had - on Blondie for example... that's clear. Probably a seminal album, interesting for my musical education - but not a fave.

I missed this when it was released in 1976. But the following year the band released two albums. I was living in a share-house at Concord. One of my housemates was a dear friend named Warwick, an ex psych-nurse & also an ex psych-patient. One Saturday afternoon he got a visit from a thoroughly entertaining & totally crazy friend, who had kayaked his way from Gladesville along the stormwater channels. I saw this guy walking up our street with his kayak under his arm & for the whole visit he could not stop singing the title of Sheena Is A Punk Rocker in a quite deranged fashion. I had no idea what the song was. Then soon after that, for 25cents, I picked up the single Pinhead/Swallow My Pride from the discount bin at Dukes Record Shop in George St Sydney. These tracks came from the 2nd & 3rd albums & pretty soon I became familiar with this first album. It sounds as fresh today as it did when I first heard it. Side 1 takes no prisoners - Blitzkrieg Bop, Beat On The Brat & I Wanna Be Your Boyfriend stand out for me. And on Side 2 the cover of one of my old favourites, Chris Montez’s Let’s Dance, is outstanding. I think the producer, Craig Leon, did really well, because I reckon this is probably very close to what the live Ramones sounded like. Hey, Ho.

I was doing a pilates class a few years back. It's one of things I need to do as an aging man to maintain some sense of mobility. The instructor complimented my Ramones t-shirt. "Oh yeah", I said, "I saw them at the Hordern Pavilion in 1989" "Cool", he replied. "I was born in 1994." Suddenly I felt really old. But that did nothing to diminish my love of the Ramones or my memory of being 18 years old, in the mosh pit of that 6000 capacity show. They came out and tore through about 45 songs in a blistering set before an adulating crowd. It wasn't until I saw the documentary End Of the Century years later that I realised that this was a much bigger venue and enthusiastic crowd than the Ramones typically played to in the States, where they never really got bigger than the club circuit. That documentary also showed how formative the Ramones were on my taste. This is an all-time classic album with some all-time classic songs on it. It's fast and loud, but the songs are really catchy, funny, but also gritty and serious. This album is both informed by the past (girl group harmonies, Stooges aggression), but also sets the tone for much music to follow. You hear the influences of the Ramones all over music to this day, and their look and iconography is also everywhere. Charles Shaar-Murray went to New York in 1975 and wrote notes on the nascent punk scene for the NME. He rightly identified the Ramones as the best band on the scene, but bemoaned that they would never put out a record. He was right on the first point, but wrong on the second. They ended up being the longest lived of all the CBGBs bands, and probably the most influential, even if commercial success evaded them. I love the Ramones, and especially this first album where they perfectly reveal their whole vision. Of all the records I have listened to from the 1001 albums list, this is one of the few that you really must hear. 5 million stars.

Love this! Love the Ramones. First 4 tracks are some of the best of their kind. But, as an album, probably a 4/5... it drags after the beginning. Rocket to Russia would probably be closer to a 4.5 for me.

I know and like most of these songs already, but I don't think I've ever listened to this album as a whole. Real good start to finish. The Ramones are super fun; they've never been one of my favorites, but this is still a solid 4/5.

Surprisingly never been a huge Ramones fan, always found them a little one-note, which I suppose is the appeal. I understand their importance to punk and appreciate how in and out the experience is, but I largely prefer what else was going on at CBGB or across the pond. C+, but I’ll make it a 4 for historical purposes.

I've listened to a bunch of Ramones in the past, but never an album straight through. This was very repetitive, and most of the songs blended together. That's not to say I didn't enjoy it though. 3.5/5

why this album didn't bring mainstream success to the Ramones still baffles me. High energy, no pretensions, so good you just have to bop on listening to it.

I get how pioneering this is and huuuuuge respect for the path they blazed sonically and visually, but I just cannot get past the musicianship. Certainly appreciate their undeniable contribution to pop music history. It's just really hard to listen to, actively or passively.

Some classics not my style

Energetic, but repetitive. Somehow felt longer than it is. Didn’t really care for this one.

Just full of classics and always a fan of their songwriting. I remember being 13, loving the Ramones, and judging everyone who wore a Ramones tshirt without liking the band. The youth don't wear those shirts anymore (and I don't judge anymore either) but if they did, they'd be repping a great great album.

The original punk sound and look right here! Leather jackets, long hair, ripped jeans, fast songs, weird lyrics, underemphasis of vocal skill; just generally noisy music. This was a fun listen. I can see teenagers in the 70s and early 80s being all over The Ramones. Somewhat surprised by some of the violent lyrical content. Three stars for this album.

All the edgy kids in the 70's/80's would be all over this. This is the album you parents dont understand haha. I dont think it has too much to offer now days. Also the singing is kinda bad.

Is ok, not bad, not good. Solid 3. A lot of these albums unfortunately lose from not being heard when they came out. They had a lot more impact then. 3/5

November 30, 2023 While touring England with Talking Heads and visiting Stonehenge, the Ramones stayed in the bus and complained that they'd rather be at McDonald's than looking at a bunch of rocks. 5 stars.

Such a great record. A hair under 30 minutes and is non-stop the whole time.

Undoubtedly influential in Punk across the world, the Ramones, hailing from the Queens, are an important piece of musical history. With catchy chord powered thumping, the lads discuss a surprisingly wide array of social issues and influences. The album grows old rather quickly, but at least I didn't listen to the extended edition. A lot of the songs are better looked at individually for their breakdowns than trying to pull something from the album in its' entirety. 2.5/5

Iconic album but all songs sound the same

All the tracks sound the same but it's still worth a listen. Despite being the first track, you'll have Blitzkrieg Pop in your head afterwards.

At its best, there is some really fine, if not surprisingly sweet songwriting on this album. At its worst, it feels like a bunch of teens in their garage practicing for the “Battle of the Bands.” I appreciate the immediacy and brevity of the album, the fun and energy, and the punk rock attitude. “I Wanna Be Your Boyfriend” kind of turned things around for me, and made me start to hear them differently. There’s a surprising power pop aesthetic to some of these songs that I wasn’t expecting. So despite the amateurish quality to much of their sound, I think to some extent, that’s the appeal. It’s fun, quick, and undemanding. And that can be a good thing.

Short, fast and loud 💯 Punchy guitar, a strong beat and simple repetitive lyrics. Pleasantly unpolished. Hard not to dance to and kinda makes me wanna hit something. It's all the same song... but it's a song I love.

The whole album sounds like Blitzkrieg Bop and Judy is a Punk. If you’re in the mood for that, listen to this album. Fergus came running in with his rope, so he loves this album’s danceability.

What a legendary album! From the classic four chord progression and their heavy, driving rock beat, to their signature dress style, the Ramones gave birth to the punk rock scene. Their greatest hit, Blitzkrieg Bop, is a hugely popular song, instantly recognizable, and is highly enjoyable.

Maybe the greatest punk album of all time. Rough and melodic, the ultimate proto pop punk record.

I always want the Ramones to go harder. Good album though, short and sweet. Never really saw them as a Punk band, but I suppose for most listeners “punk” is more a musical style than a social group association so it probably qualifies. They have a good sense of humor and you get that the early Ramones didn’t take themselves too seriously. The later Ramones did have to be THE RAMONES and I wonder if that limited their artistic range. This album absolutely defines The Ramones, for better or worse. Good job attacking the status quo!!!

One of the things that I think is really underrated with the Ramones is their songwriting and how conversational they are. The songs are written how people talk, and with the same topics. The repetition, the banality, the simple joys of complaining about love, being bored, sharing inside jokes, talking about terrible movies you’ve watched recently. There are less than 1000 unique words across the whole album, I know I looked it up, but I do think in their brevity, The Ramones managed to capture something of the vastness of the human condition. The music fuckin rips too

Every song is the same but it’s a good song

This album is good It sounds very similar throughout the album but it’s good Top tracks: Blitzkrieg Bop, Havana Affair, Today Your Love, Tomorrow the World

There's too much guitar playing the same chord over and over again. It's generally pretty okay, but there's just too much noise. It is great for a song or two, but for a whole album it's too much. The singing is kinda bad, and it definitely isn't good for a whole album back to back to back. If someone were to play any of these songs, I would think that's chill. If someone wanted to play the whole album I would ask "why". The songs are just too similar for me to want to listen to the whole album, I'll take just one or two songs, thanks. As music, it might be a 4, but as an album, I think it's like a 2.

It's debatable if the Ramones were the first punk band. What isn't is how good this record is.

3.5, Good solid album, very repetitive but enjoyable to blast through nonetheless. Another one of those where if you look in terms of significance of the album, has to be a 5/5, but shows its age quite severely nowadays.

Rating: 8/10 Great punk album. Very melodic and catchy, it's very fun to listen to this album. Not any variety at all though, very one-dimensional, the riffs all sound very similar. It's influence was clearly massive on punk rock and pop-punk. Favorite songs: Blitzkrieg Bop, Beat on the Brat, Basement, Listen to My Heart. Least favorite song: Chain Saw.

Arguably the Very First Punk Rock Record. Certainly the one most accessible that had real melodies & often funny lyrics. At first they were considered a Step below a garage band, but in time they proved that a 2 Minute Song with just Drums,Bass & Guitar could speak volumes. Recorded for less money than a cheap Japanese car cost, songs like "I wanna Be Your Boyfriend" & "Blitzktieg Bop" are shots of Musical adrenaline. Some of the songs are completely unpolished, but thats what adds to the charm. ThisLP Marks the minute when Rock n Roll did a reset and returned to what this music was in the first place- Primal, Fast, Cocky and fun to dance to

El disco más veloz y rápido del punk.

It is no coincidence that punk can be defined as "worthless" and "trick" because I feel like I am being duped by anyone who praises this album. Obnoxious singing, tedious rhythms, and nothing of value.

The debut album by the Ramones; I must confess that I have never listened to this album in its entirety front-to-back but have probably heard most of the songs individually. It's an absolute classic, will probably have a hard time finding a reason to not give this one a 5. I wonder where it started that most punk/hardcore artists keep their songs under 2 minutes, cause it honestly works and I find most people are drawn to it; quick, electric, it comes and goes before you can fully process it, moving onto the next song just to do it to you again. So.... as a full album listen, the songs don't hit as hard or as fast as they do when they come on individually during random playlists. While I understand their historic presence, they just do not scratch the itch hard enough for me when in the mood for hard hitting music, so alas, I cannot give them a perfect score.
