Reviews (page 4 of 14)
This is a great album that really has held up. I love the simple drum and bass work behind the expansive vocals. I thought most of the Strokes songs I knew covered like a ten-year period; instead, they all are on the same debut album.
Good shit
Not my style but total respect - raw, good writing, a mood, excellent musicians.
This is another album that I've listened to for a million times, but its a classic. It's a record i think about whenever I try to write songs because its songwriting is just so tantalizing, hooky, and creative. Its a mix of blase and energetic that I didn't know was possible but so simple when executed. I am glad a record like this exists and influences alot of acts with this record's release. Every song like The Modern Age, Someday, Barely Legal or NYCC will leave an impression on your head and last long for a long long while.
Very nice
Original sound. Fun songs. I like the way they do sort of "anti-endings" on a bunch of the tracks
Heard it before and it’s a solid 9-10 rock album
fav looooove them.
One of my favorite albums of all time. I love the Strokes. Peak garage rock
Is this it...I certainly think so. What this list is for
Casablancas is a genius
This album was my first strokes album back in the day. My partner said love to her sounded like this album.
This record defined the rock scene in the early 00’s.
One of my all time favourites
I was jamming to this today, remembering how great it is, when "Someday" came on. For a moment, I actually forgot that "Someday" and "Last Nite" are on this album. They were the hits that made me fall in love with The Strokes in college and they're still fantastic. But this album is stacked with so many good songs that it would be great even without them. I've always loved "When It Started." And "Take It or Leave It" is a great high-energy closer. Julian Casablancas really wails on that last track. The Strokes have a style that draws on multiple eras of rock. At their core, these songs feel like old-fashioned rock 'n' roll. But there's some punk spirit here along with a new wave influence. And even though there are plenty of hard-rocking moments, the band has restraint. They feel like they're totally in control, upping the emotion when the songs need it and falling back into a cool, 'yeah, whatever, no big deal' posture a moment later. I've heard this album dozens of times before but I actually probably don't listen to it enough. Just fantastic.
What. A. Debut. So many modern classics on this one, the title track "Is This It", "Barely Legal", "Someday", "Last Nite", "Hard To Explain" are all show stoppers; all perfectly connected little rock tunes. When I think of The Strokes, I think of authenticity, and this album is so authentic. So much of modern rock music is about looking cool, sounding interesting, and and pretending and posturing, and I never got that with this band. I get genuine coolness and that natural human attraction that comes with it. I don't want to just listen to this band, I don't want to just see them in concert, I don't want to just get backstage passes, I don't want to just meet them or be friends with them, I want to be in the band. What a joy to listen to through studio monitors; I feel like these songs are ubiquitously on every driving/road trip playlist, every party playlist, every "clean the house" playlist, and I never get a chance to listen through in a great environment, and boy am I enjoying it now. The bass on the title song is coming through in ways I haven't heard in years and years. I can't believe this came out in 2001... really? I see that year written on my screen and I feel obligated to look it up because that doesn't feel right. This is 24 years old? Wow! I saw The Strokes for the first time at Governor's Ball in NYC in 2014 (stacked lineup- Outkast, Phoenix, The 1975, Jack White, Spoon, Vampire Weekend, Interpol), and I remember something clicking with me. I had loved The Strokes before then, like a true A+ band for me, but seeing them live I looked around at the crowd and everyone around us and thought "damn, this band is such a perfect combination of different types of enjoyment. The riffs are exciting and surprisingly technical for all the guitar nerds to enjoy, you can dance to all these songs so all the dance people get to bop around, and Julian is the ultimate cool guy, so all the "I'm too cool for this place" dudes in the back get to enjoy it as well. Or at least they get to enjoy it while pretending they don't." It's a funny little blend of different fan archetypes to witness live. Two of these songs are true seminal pieces of art for the development of my music taste. "Last Nite" is a song that spends a lot of time around the top of my "favorite songs of all time" list. When those first few down-plucked notes are played, my eyes light up, my mood is lifted from wherever it was. It's a pretty straightforward tune and the lyrical story of a problematic relationship only gets a little funny (spaceships and grandparents) but those lyrics have stuck in my head forever. "Hard To Explain" is the other one that has always had a strong grip on me. It's melancholic and vague, and rock and rock yet also a little electronic. I love how around the 1 minute mark, when the verse gets a repeat and all of the instruments bloom into a fully realized arrangement, Julian pulls the rug from underneath us and changes the vocal melody only a few notes in. It's a little abnormal, usually when you get the "full" version of a track after a teased intro, you expect the full melody as well. But just a slight change from him makes me really ponder and inspect this song more. I always thought this one was perhaps autobiographical, but maybe with some stripped away lyrics to obscure the notion a little. I see him as someone who would do that; would show a bit of himself in his songs but also feel an uncomfortable need to not share too much. It's a strong 5/5 for me. Modern classic, a staple in modern music. I don't know if I've ever met someone who didn't like The Strokes. Wait, this is the album cover? This whole time I thought the alternative cover was the actual one. I can't believe that!
This is still as good as I remember - truly 2000s classic rock. Hard to even pick a favorite song, but I think it's Someday. The whole album is such a mood booster. I didn't know New York City Cops was swapped out for When It Started in the wake of September 11th, so I listened to that as well for the first time. I do think When It Started is slightly better.
One of the sneakily most important albums of my life 5/5
Added to my to buy list!
Easy 5/5. A classic. Every song is a banger.
Great Album, nice background pop
There’s just something about this album that hits me in all the right ways. It’s been in my rotation of “I have no clue what I want to listen to so I’ll go with something I know I love” albums for some time now. Love it. 4.5/5
So I know a lot of of people love this album and call it an album that saved rock and roll and I have to say, I completely agree bc this is the best album of all time. Imo guys imo
YASSSSSSS i love the strokes this must be an old album cover cause i have never seen this picture but COOL !!
Amazing, one of the best alt indie records ever.
I've heard so many good things about this album that my that expectations were really high. So, after listening to it I felt a bit disappointed because it wasn't the perfect experience I was waiting for. Nontheless, it is still a really good album with catchy riffs and choruses. *Edit: 4 to 5 stars. This album just boost my mood so much. One of the most charming albums I've ever heard.
Possibly my favourite album of all time and one I can absolutely no longer objectively judge. It laid the groundwork for the 2000s garage rock revolution, probably my favourite genre of music. Casablancas' voice suits the lo-fi aesthetic like a glove on an arse, and the guitars sing simple catchy riffs throughout. The best time to play the album is approaching the end of a train journey, to build your confidence as you step out to a new place. Feel the vibes, feel the cool. 01/01/25
One of my favorite albums ever
2001. New York. Indie rock, garage rock revival, post-punk revival, new wave
I don't have a huge vinyl collection, but I do own this album on vinyl, so it's automatically a 5. It's been a while since I've listened to this album in its entirety, but I still love it as much as I did when I first heard it. This is a perfect album for me - I love how fun, cool, and comfortable it is, like a well-worn leather jacket. Although my favourite album from The Strokes is actually "Room on Fire", this one is a veryyyyy close second. Favourite tracks: Hard to Explain (basically a perfect track), Someday, Last Nite
formative
I was 8 or so years late to this album. The first Strokes song I heard was, oddly enough, Razorblade from their third album. It’s still one of run favorite songs of theirs, and I think it’s really underrated. I was pretty obsessed with it and wanted to dive deeper into the Strokes, and learned that Is This It was considered their best. So I bought it on iTunes to see what the fuss was about. I was hooked for life. Immediately, the opening title track lets you know that it’s going to sound familiar and unlike anything else at the same time. It’s a homage to much to the best of rock and roll, especially New York City rock (the Velvet Underground and Television are immediately recognizable influences). It also is a powerful reflection of youth and the exciting and terrible transition into adulthood. Is this it? What a powerful question that is made all the more emotional by one of most killer baselines ever in a rock song. Transitioning directly into The Modern Age was a brilliant decision in album sequence. Soma and Barely Legal dial up the debauchery, and Someday delivers a hit. What a first half. Last Nite kicks in the second half with another hit. The albums climax and creative peak is arguably Hard To Explain, which still may be the Strokes best song. Take It Or Leave It is a fitting powerful closer. It’s deserving of the hype and its status as one of the best albums of the century so far.
This is a firm favourite. I remember the fuss at the time. They had the talent to back it up though. And looked effortlessly cool in skinny jeans. They write a great pop tune. This sounds as good today as it did then. Classic
Sykt at det går ann å være så uanstrengt kul som the strokes er her. Hver eneste sang er indierock-perfeksjon. Beste låt: Trying Your Luck, nei vent, Someday, nei vent, New York City Cops...
Innovative and excellent
Best artist I had heard of but never got around to listening to (so far!)
Last night, Hard to explain and someday are songs that remind me of my going our days, such belters!! This is a really good indie album. Effortlessly cool and completly fresh and unique sounding. 5/5 easily!! Favourite song: So many of these tracks are 5/5. If I had to pick 2 favourites I would pick Soma and Last night. Least favourite: Everything is perfect Album artwork: Nice!!!!
Awesome
“Is This It” me surpreendeu de forma extremamente positiva.
I always liked ‘Trying Your Luck’ back when I was a lonely callow inchoate loser. Now I’m pudgy and bloated but so is Strokes frontman Julian Casablancas. My roommates’ band used to cover Someday and Hard To Explain. This isn’t even my favorite Strokes album but it’s one where every song is like oh shit yeah I love this one.
this album is amazing. when i think of real and raw indie music from the 2000s i immediately think of these guys. these guys aren't trying to blow your socks away with a brand new sound or nothing. ryan schieber is truthful when he says they're just a rock band, and despite their more ordinary sound, taking the time to listen to each track will make you feel bittersweet emotions and will make you just want to forget everything that's around you and get lost in the music. this is pure y2k sound that isn't hyperelectronic drum and bass. this is pure "sitting on the couch, channel flipping between MTV and VH1, and looking at the sunset".
Still sounds great and still on regular rotation.
Uk version is better but I get why New York City cops isn’t on the us one, even if it’s the best track. I actually haven’t heard this album in ages but the songs are really great
Liking Is This It is like saying you enjoy breathing. It’s a cold take that no one cares about. I really like Is This It
Love this album, one of my all time favorites. No skips. Fun guitar riffs, great vocals
Mein Hit ist „Trying your Luck“. Gut ist auch „Last Nite“ und mysteriös das am 11.9.2001 auf Venyl erschienene „New York Cops“. Wiederhören „is This It?“ 😊
Such a phenomenal collection of songs, constantly attention catching even in the lethargic laments, there is enough movement and hook to keep you engaged. Simply incredible songcraft.
the epitome of high school me
Standard of indie rock.
One of the best albums ever made
Album art: 5 Iconic
Just as good as the first time I heard it. I can listen to the whole thing through and be happy with every song.
Amazing. Love the album. It gets you right there, and keeps you there for the whole ride. Standouts: Is This It, The Modern Age, Someday, Last Nite, Hard To Explain, Trying Your Luck, Take It Or Leave It.
Wow. This gotta be one of the greatest albums ever. I literally am strokin it.
Album 607 of 1001 The Strokes -Is This It (2001) Rating : 5 / 5 A good find for today. I know of The Strokes but don't really know them well. Great album. Enjoyable all the way through. Great melodies, guitar work and vocals. Some great indie rock. t has been described as a collection of "completely cracking songs" and I can't disagree.
Rating is probably influenced by nostalgia but regardless it is still a great album. Really captures a place in time.
"Is This It" by The Strokes is a solid album. Critics will correctly point out that it brought back guitar-based alt-rock to the early aughts scene. And it is easy to see why. There are visible traces of The Velvet Underground (Lou Reed) and even hints of The Stooges. You can also see how they influenced later acts by bands such as The Killers. However, besides its position as a fundamental piece of a rock puzzle, "Is This It" is just as fresh and enjoyable as it was then. The quality of 95% of the songs in the album is great. To me, this album is still a gem! 9/10
I truly wanted to hate 'Is This It' when it came out. Living in London then, the hype surrounding The Strokes was insufferable—every magazine, radio station, and conversation seemed to be about them. But the moment I actually listened, it didn’t take long for me to come to my senses. You could argue this was style over substance, but that would be an incredible disservice to the excellent musicianship at play and the band’s uncanny ability to craft irresistible hooks. Heralding the beginning of guitar music's last major moment in the spotlight, 'Is This It' is the perfect encapsulation of early 2000s swagger, pairing raw energy with a retro aesthetic that felt thrillingly fresh at the time. Julian Casablancas’ charismatic, disaffected delivery redefined what it meant to be a frontman for the decade that followed. His angsty yet witty vocals are the driving force of this album. Meanwhile, the interplay between Albert Hammond Jr.’s melodic leads and Nick Valensi’s textured riffs gave the band their signature sound: layered yet minimalistic, a delightful balance that would define their career. Fabrizio Moretti’s crisp and controlled drumming provides a groove that many have imitated but few have matched, while Nikolai Fraiture’s understated basslines anchor the rhythm section and tie everything together seamlessly. The Strokes took the sounds of their idols—Television, The Velvet Underground, The Ramones—and spun them into something that nodded to its influences while remaining authentic. While their songwriting arguably improved on the subsequent two albums, they could never replicate the surprise factor and hysteria this debut created. 'Is This It' may not be the most complex or boundary-pushing record ever made, but its cultural impact, timeless energy and unmatched cool cement its place as a modern classic. Did/Do I own this release? On CD. Does this release belong on the list? Yes. Would this release make my personal list? Strong shout. I still have a soft spot for "Reptilia" and "Heart In A Cage" on later releases. Will I be listening to it again? for sure, it is a reminder of a simpler time.
Easy 5, classic, cant be beat, wikipedia says they wanted to sound like the doors, never heard that, but i see that for sure.
Nothing The Strokes did was new or different. But it still sounded amazing. Full of vigour and just cool as fuck, quite frankly. It was released 23 years ago. Which happened to coincide with when I met my wife and we used to go out and dance. Last Nite was always feature of the soundtrack. Christ we're old. But this is a track-to-track killer album that sounds as timeless and as fresh as it did then.
Almost a full album of singles
One of the indispensable rock albums. If you were to remove this record from history of popular music than nothing that came after it would have been the same.
Take it, I don’t wanna sing anymore.
The album that launched a thousand bands. It still sounds so good, all these years later
Always and forever five stars
Is it bonfire night again? Cos it is banger after banger Can't be many better three songs runs than Last Nite, Hard to Explain, NY City Cops.
Absolutely perfect. No notes.
I don’t think any album, with the exception of Wilco’s Yankee Hotel Foxtrot, that better demonstrates the power of the ‘00 Indie movement than this one. It’s honestly a master piece and I can’t even tell you why except every song on here is so incredibly listenable. The energy and it emotes passion in ways most artists wish they could achieve. Key songs for me are Last Nite as it was the first song I heard from his album and therefore has a special place, and Hard to Explain. This is a modern classic (…note: for Gen Xers the ‘90s was like ten years ago so this by definition would be ‘modern’).
Perfection! Just an amazing debut record that set off a rock resurgence in NYC and around the world. Opened my eyes to indie rock with one ear towards the future and one checking out the past and all the great bands doing it before them! Easy 5
This is an amazing album. When it came out 18 year old me had never heard anything like it. The sound is distinctly theirs, but still clearly influenced be older bands. Every tracks seems to be one idea distilled down to the essence. There's no overly long tracks, or 10 minute solos, everything is just sharp and perfectly paced.
Every fucking song! Not a single miss. Where’s the stinker. You’re wrong, there are none. Fuck you! This is great. I love it. It’s fun, every song stands out from one another while also sounding like one cohesive album. The instrumentation is great, but not so perfect to the point that it sounds soulless. The vocals are iconic and unique. Original songwriting. This feels new and fresh any and every time I listen to it. There is nothing like this. Great album. One of my all time favorites. 5/5
Pretty much a perfect album, even if I know know it to be a bit derivative of Television. I didn't know who Television were when I was a teenager though, so these guys were pretty much the epitome of cool in my book at the time. I think they do put enough of an original spin on their sound to be considered unique as well. Not a bad song on here, one of the best albums of the millennium so far.
# Album Name: Is this it # Artist: The Strokes # Rating: 5/5 # Comments: For me, this was the stand out album of the noughties. Very much of the time. But this is a really good album for me. Its been a long time since ive heard it in full. But the memories come flooding back. Back to back good songs on this banger of an album. I feel its aged well too. Im giving this a low 5 because i can easily listen to the full album in its entirety. Its an incredibly enjoyable album. However, i dont put it up their with the real classics like DSOTM. # Top Tunes: Plenty of bangers on this one. # Would I listen to it again? Hell yeah.
Amazing album - 10/10 love it
As my cursor hovers over 4 stars, I have to ask myself how can I deny an album that launched (and defined) a scene. That made New York cool again. Nothing groundbreaking, just tight, catchy, confident rock.
10/10 Music doesnt get better than this. Puts me in a mood I cannot explain Favourite=Hard To Explain Least Favourite=Its perfect
Love this album. One of my favorites. I really like the lead singer's voice.
Chat, this might be it
La perfección hecha album de rock. Top song: cambia segun el dia, hoy te digo The Modern Age
classic god album
One of the few quintessential rock albums to come out in my lifetime. This album is rock and roll to its core. Raw and dirty, fun and catchy. Every song is a banger. They may not have been incredibly talented, but they do what they do perfectly.
aaaaaa this was gooooood. so good. very good.
Nostalgia, trendy, catchy
The sound is so great. I love a lazy lo-fi singer. "Someday" is the standout for me.
One of my all time favorite albums but hasn’t aged as well as I would have hoped.
Absolutely ground breaking stuff. Like a 'best-of' compilation album for an already well-loved band. The fact that this is their first record is astonishing an a testament to the actual genius of J. Casablancas. the Strokes have got to be the last set of absolute rockstars.
So good. Love it. 5
One of the greatest indie rock albums of all time
Best first album by probably any band ever. So fucking good. I can listen to it forever
Absolutely fuxking awesome
if u saw the two star rating i inexplicably had on this from when i was 18 or so, no u didnt. the slowly dawning realization that this is probably one of the best albums ive rolled yet was not pretty. rly just inimitable songcraft delivering emotions deeply felt but struggled to be projected. in places , as elemental as something like the velvet underground, but never compromising on its nonstop melodic sensibility. kind of autistic honestly. feel very stupid that i just bounced off this years ago and havent spent the time inbetween getting super attached to this thing! will make up for lost time eventually, i am periodically slowly revisiting my new faves from this project...they can pop up in the most unexpected places
For whatever reason, a lot of my friends got really captivated by this album. Maybe it's the faster pace and catchy lyrics. Maybe it's the gravely voice and the way the singer pushes himself. Maybe it's the fact that this sounds like the blueprint that much pop indie music would sound like. This thing is great. I was a big fan of cage the elephant in high school and a lot of their earlier work reminds me of this. Over time it's grown on me quite a lot. I think that this album is pretty quintessential with the type of people I like. It's pretty cool in that way.
This album is a product of a feeling that desperately needed to return to rock music at the time. It's a fun album, it's a party album, it's a simple album, all of which were things lacking at the time. I'm not even sure I liked it that much when it came out; sure I enjoyed "Last Night" like everyone else that owned a television or a radio, but that might've been it. I probably thought these guys were pretty lame. Since then I've become less of a teenager and more of an old man and hopefully less quick to judge. The Strokes sound like the Strokes and that's what's great about them. They pick a style (little to no effects, minimalist recording, 1 or 2 tempos, etc) and they do it perfectly. I don't really even care what they're singing about, it's a good time and it makes you want to smile. I don't know if I can pick too many tracks out of this album to single out as wanting to listen to over and over, because they're all pretty similar, and in a way that's a good thing. That's surprising to me because I usually dislike that kind of thing in an album. The only thing I can hate on is that this album spawned absolute shit like Franz Ferdinand and the Killers, who are so full of themselves musically that they lose the whole spirit of this style. Otherwise it's great. Also lmao that America got an alternate cover.
I had this album and don't remember the cover being so sexy. I like the sound of this album. Nice easy early 2k indie rock. The muffled, perhaps untouched vocals are a hallmark of these guys sound and it works for me. My teachers, they don't understand.
Skater/surfy vibes. Very upbeat album with catchy, head bobbing guitar riffs.
I wasn't into this at the time, I thought it was all a bit too trendy. Now with the passage of time, I can listen to this many times and appreciate how good it is. It is the perfect length for an album, each song has merits, and there is hardly any filler in this album. Love it
Done this one haven't I? Oh well, it's a great record. Well worthy of the hype and title of easily one of the greatest debuts of all time. Probably matched by the disappointment of nearly everything that followed it, aside from the odd banger. Is it fair to say that Television (who they sound a lot like) only had one brilliant album also. Can't be arsed writing much but everyone already knows this is a great album and so do I.
still hits after all these years. kickstarted a new wave of rock music in the early oughts.
Absolutely great album.
5 stars the strokes good album
Amazing album! Not only does it remind me of my teenage years, it‘s also still great music today imo.
An absolute pillar of modern indie music. They wear their influences on their sleeves while tearing them from flexing their musical muscles. An absolute banger from front to back.
this isn’t objectively a five but i loved it idk why
Love the strokes.
Yesss
Such a good album! Literally no filler tracks
What a blast of an album. Turns out the rich kids are quite similar to you and me after all.
A bunch of great influences, blended together nicely, and delivered with swagger.
Classic.
I will rank it - 4.5
5/5. Take it or leave it!
✨️fantastic✨️
👍
great album from one of my favorite artists
strokin it
Brilliant
this is probably one of the best debut albums of all time, there are no bad songs at all, this is like perfect it’s such an enjoyable listen
Must-listen for those who are big on alternative/indie rock...
Not listened to this in a long time. Have to admit it’s still very good and a worthy entry into the 1001
great indie rock album, love the strokes 5/5
What a great listen. A return to roots for rock as it is, simplistic but powerful catchy bops
Eddie was always right about this one.
Seminal. Love listening to the UK version w New York City Cops included.
Really got into this band. Not a song I disliked although don’t think I remember truly hearing any of them before. Driving guitar, punchy, punky lyrics, worked for me.
Unique sound! ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ 36 intense minutes of energetic guitars and driving rhythm. 🎸🥁 Not a single weak song. Very catchy. Fun to listen to every time.🔁
Yeah, this is it! Overwhelming, confident, and intense.
I WAS SURPRISED. I have owned this album for a long time and never made it past the first or second track - to be clear, I do think the first song is a banger! I don't know why I wrote them off. But it's a good one. Full listen, lots of hooks, lots of melody.
One of, if not the best, indie album ever. Inspired all my favourite bands and soundtracked my teenage years. Love this album more than some distant family members. Forever grateful to you, Julian Casablancas xx
Good stuff, one of the classics
Are The Strokes kinda overrated? Sure. Is this still a near flawless piece of aughts indie rock? Also yes. You’ve gotta respect it.
Simply the best
Amazing debut
best album of 2001 (sorry daft punk)
Yay
Another insta-5. One of my favorite albums from one of my favorite bands. Just the right amount of pop-y. Top five for me are: Is This It, The Modern Age, Someday, Last Night, and Hard to Explain but there's not a single bad track on this album. You could argue that basically all of the less popular ones are underrated.
I know the album is good when I open it up and all but 3 of the songs are already in my liked songs.
Already 1000000/10 i fucking love this album and have probably listened to this more than any album ever in my life so.....
Everything about this is great. I've had it on rotation for over 2 decades. It's a perfect record.
These guys KNOW how to throw an album together. Excellent
Punchy and full of attitude
Fotonico
what a great consistent sound and vision. The album has gotten better over time, I initially was not in love with its overt pop sound but it has such an simple approach with excellent guitar work I came around and now find it amazing in its beauty.
Standard good rock.
Excellent
Definitely enjoyed it. Catchy songs.
Discazo.
Obra prima. Memorável do início ao fim.
The Strokes were the coolest band - there's a reason Alex Turner himself wanted to be one of them. Is This It is so consistent, there's no filler here and it's hard to pick the best track. So I won't, and will just say it's all great
Slays. One of those records that you wish would keep going and going when it ends. The quintessential indie rock album. Not a weak track to be found. Lots of nostalgia but quality as well.
Great album
My Personal Favorite album from The Strokes. It doesn't have a ton of variation, but The Strokes are some of the best at their particular sound, so they don't really need to vary a ton. Songwriting is on point, just a really enjoyable album.
It's funny I know Julian Casablancas more by his work in The Voidz than The Strokes. The latter is a somewhat poppier and less daring version of the former. Still great though, there's something je ne sais quoi about his work... Best UK indie album to come out of America
You want to talk about influential albums? The Downward Spiral definitely changed the industrial metal game for many people. But Is This It in so many ways represents what modern indie rock music has become. Believe it or not, The Strokes do actually make good music. But I was sort of opposed to them for a long time. The album’s reputation is inescapable, and it’s widely regarded as one of the greatest debuts of all time. Personally, I could never get past the first song. I just wasn’t into it. But I’m glad I gave it the chance it deserves. It’s definitely an important album. The band claimed they took a lot of influence from Lou Reed and The Velvet Underground. In a lot of ways, the two groups parallel each other. It is said that everyone who bought that Velvet Underground debut record went home and started a band. I have a feeling the same is very true for this record. I bet you can hear fragments of this in every indie album released in the 21st century post-2001. I mean just look at Car Seat Headrest as an example. The band also claims they took no influence from Television, as they hadn’t even heard them until after this record was released. I find that really hard to believe, but if it’s true, it makes this all the more impressive. That’s basically the equivalent of Talking Heads trying to make a song that sounded as close to Joy Division as possible without ever having heard their music, and creating The Overload. Pretty damn close in both cases. I think where my problems lied initially was with Julian. I’ve never been a fan of vocals that sound like they’ve been recorded through a dollar store microphone. Julian himself is a great singer, don’t get me wrong. But that purposefully lo-fi feeling took some getting used to. It may not even be on purpose either. But once I finally dove deeper and actually heard what this record had to offer, I understand where everyone’s love came from. This is a collection of some of the most undeniably catchy and well written garage rock of all time. And it’s funny to see how far and above this stands with critics over other artists of the same garage rock revival era, like The White Stripes and Arctic Monkeys. The former of which I have equally as much respect for as The Strokes. Rating: 9/10
An undeniable nostalgia 5 for me. It's July 2001, I am weeks away from turning 18 and finishing High School. The Strokes fly into Australia to support You Am I. The album hasn't even dropped yet, but that's basically their setlist in order. News spreads from other states of what awaits us. Four glorious nights in a row at the Newtown Theatre in Sydney quickly become legend, culminating an early album drop months before anywhere else in the world. Something momentous has occurred. We're finally free of our post-grunge and nu-metal shackles. I'd like to think the album holds up without nostalgia goggles, but I honestly can't tell. These 35 odd minutes sounded huge back then, and it always will to me. If not, a bonus point for the iconic non-American artwork perchance?
Basically the album of my generation. A true classic.
Still a top 5 album for me
It’s impossible for me to listen to this without nostalgia. Love this from top to bottom. Not a bad song on the album. Love the grungy fuzziness of it. I know detractors say that it’s derivative. Maybe it is. But I still love it! 5/5
Sumamente recomendable.
Awesome album, back-to-front!
one of my favorites. And definitely makes me nostalgic for my early 20s
classic
Kerri
I don't think I've actually listened to this front to back in a while. What really needs to be said about it? It's a total classic, fire from front to back, truly an era-defining piece of music. I gotta catch these boys live again now that I'm in New York. Will I ever be able to identify each deep cut by name though? Remains to be seen haha, they still blend together for me. I don't think that's necessarily a bad thing though.
Incredible album, there isn't a miss on here. 10/10
First time listening to this album in full. I enjoyed it!
This album was my first introduction to my favorite band, The Strokes. For that sentimental value alone it could easily be called my favorite album of all time. But in addition to that, the album earns it. The tracklist remains so cohesive throughout. One of my favorite signature elements of The Strokes is their use of a rhythm guitar and a lead guitar. The two just dance around, I love switching my focus between them. There's often some funky bass too, really a showcase. The drums consistently focus the energy exactly right. Julian's voice sounds so young, it makes me emotional. I cannot overstate the impact of this album on my life. Some songs transport me directly to specific moments in my life. Julian's voice on every song is directly rooted into my soul. I love the grit on the mic, the little riffs he does, the shifts in rhythm from the rest of the band, every song has so much layered within it despite being a 5 person group of all classic instruments. Factoring in that this was the bands first album is really a testament to their talent, they developed a unique sound that many attribute to the revitalization of rock n roll in the early 2000s. I'm so happy that everyone has gotten the chance to listen to the most important album in my life 💛 thank you
A true perfect album. No notes. Easiest 5 of my life. Fav Songs: Literally all of them
Thank you Kerri for the fun facts about this album! 5/5
Good, liked it in the past like it now
Extremely pleasantly surprised, it’s an all around great album
The Strokes esta bien fucking en bomba, solo había escuchado The New Abnormal y Angels y me parecían una banda solida, pero Is This It me parece de alguna forma legendario. Muy buenas canciones y creo que el run the Barely Legal, Someday, Alone, Together, Last Nite y Hard to Explain es sumamente increíble. Muy buen rock. Its a low Ten or a very high 9, no me decido aún. 9.5/10.
This is one of my absolute favorite albums. Front to back just essential indie rock. It’s gritty and heavy with some nice themes and tones throughout. This us definitely a must listen for anyone who enjoys rock.
Love the sound on this one.
I was so excited when this one popped up (although it's not the cover art I'm used to). Every single song on this album is on one or more of my Spotify playlists. The production is crisp, the performances are tight, not a moment out of place on the whole album. As an amateur guitarist, my favorite thing about this album is the way they use the two guitars playing separate but interlocking lines to add complexity to simplistic song structures.
One of THE classic 2000s indie rock albums. Its reputation precedes it and for good reason. A strong start with some of their most iconic work right out the gate.
The dominant record of that time. How did they dig this up.
The Strokes were maybe the drunkest band I have ever seen live. Still totally brought it. I love this album. Great sound, real rama lama attitude, good songs and downtown lyrics. I'd give this a 5 star for "New York City Cops" alone.
Great all around album, loved it
Yes beautiful surprise, I kinda of knew the Struts with "Last Nite", but the entire album is even better than expected for that reason it's a 5/5. From now on this album is part of my rock folder.
Satisfying and compact
This is it
Maravilhoso, amei!
no wonder why the killers almost didn’t make music because of this record
Just bangers on end
Easy 5*. Heard this album so many times I can't actually remember when I first heard it. I love every track on this and the list of bands that I like that wouldn't have existed without this album is endless. Fav tracks: Someday, Hard to Explain, Is This It
A top 5 album of all time for me so one that I've listened to more times than I could count. Gives you the opportunity to listen in a different way when thinking about how to review it. Some things I noticed for the first time or felt worth mentioning, in no particular order: I always assumed that Someday was my favourite tune but today I realised that it could actually be Alone, Together. That lead break is something else. Someday still being up there with best song ever recorded. So many powerfully simple lines - And now my fears, they come to me in threes; The way every track seems to open up at some point, welcomes you in then wrap you back up into it (The Modern Age as a prime example). The vocal effects maintain a sense that there's always two or three degrees seperation between him, the subject matter and me as the audience. But then at the same time it all seems deeply personal. The double outro of Hard to Explain The Pixies energy of Is This It I'd never paid any attention to the bass line on Last Nite ABH's ability to insert and assert himself on almost every track with out you even noticing. Something about this being the strongest debut album ever made next to Arctic Monkeys but also recognising how much Arctic Monkeys owe to this album. Or put another way, how much I owe to The Strokes for paving the way of many of my all time favourite bands and genres.
One of my favorites. Someday makes me tear up.
The Modern Age and the last two songs were surprises for me. The songs Nowadays and Last Nite are classics. Mwah, chef’s kiss. Superrrr impressive for a debut album
One of the more influential albums of my lifetime. This one changed everything for me.
Perfect rock album.
One of the greatest debut albums.
I can never explain why this album is so impactful to me. I’ve heard it on good days and bad days and it hits hard either way. A lot of its sound just feels so iconic. The first time I heard Is This It? I was told it sounded like it was being sung to someone through an apartment buzzer. That is fitting, for whatever reason, and it strips down an otherwise bold, varied, and chaotic album. It’s absolutely one of my all time favorites.
These guys might not have saved rock ‘n’ roll like the pundits thought they would but they pulled it off in my heart. Not a perfect album but a really important one for me as a teenager that cemented my love for guitar rock. Still can sing every song. Best song: Hard to Explain
Strokes at their best!
Although I am quite familiar with the band and know a few albums I had never listened to this one from the beginning to the end. And this is also a nice album with several great songs.
Ah, the Nevermind of the 21st century! Here’s one of the best and most important debuts, maybe of all time, but certainly that I’ve ever heard. The pioneers of the garage rock revival and indie scene come out swinging with nothing but bangers. And the recipe would go on to be used in nearly every successful rock record for the next 20 years.
Motherfucker, this is IT!
This album is driving down pch with Leila in high school. Loved the whole thing. This is it, New York City cops, hard to explain. There’s not one song I don’t like on this album.
I love this friggin album. Every song could have been a single. What a debut! The distortion on the guitars and vocals, the driving rhythm - so good. Not sure how they mixed the drums, but to me it’s absolutely perfect. Feel good dance music. 4.8
I remember where I was hearing "Last Nite" for the first time. Truly incredible album, I can't top what's already been said.
RATING SYSTEM: 1*: Horrible 2*: Bad 3*: Middle of the road 4*: Good 5*: Amazing (will round up/down songs that I feel fit between two ratings) ALBUM 2: Is This It This album was very consistent throughout. I could find absolutely nothing to dislike abt this album and there were no songs that I disliked. While I wouldn't say its one of my fav albums, I rlly enjoyed it and think it deserves my high rating. 4.5* rounded up to 5
9/10 fantastic rock album so many great songs, great aesthetics too
Goated
I really liked this album
Is this it this modern age soma barely legal someday last nite hard to explain take it or leave it jesus i enjoyed the whole bloody album, every track. no wonder every other rock band since has copied their sound
Front to back, en back to front, 'Is This It' is als een aap, noot, mies voor indie rock liefhebbers. 9,5/10 Highlights: The Modern Age Hard To Explain New York City Cops
Is this it? Already? Hier doen we niet moeilijk over: 10/10 Highlights Is this it Someday Last Nite Hard to Explain Take it or Leave It En shout-out naar het later geskipte New York City Cops. 9/11 denken we even weg.
I've been slowly learning via this list that I have very limited knowledge of post 2000 music as I stuck my head in the sand at some stage pre 2k. That said my 16yo has been a huge fan of The Strokes and I've been getting into them as I hear more and more. This album is touted as the "reinvention of post-millennium guitar music" so my thanks go to The Strokes. Faves: Someday, Last Nite, and Hard To Explain.
Lot of nostalgia for this! It was definitely one of the highlights in 2001s musical landscape, and popular with my friend group. Still stands up to scrutiny, I'd say! Fave tracks - "The Modern Age", "Last Nite", "New York City Cops" - really, though, any track from this album will give me that sweet sweet reminiscence!
Nice
This is an excellent album. I am not sure why I haven't listend to this before but I will definitely listen again.
# Playlist track - The Modern Age # Notes - Boy, this makes me feel old. This was *amazing* when it came out. And it's aging pretty well! +1 - The opening chord +1 - Cover art +1 - Hard to choose a favorite track for the playlist +1 - No bad tracks +1
I really really like this album. So glad it still sounds fresh after 20+ years. The bass line in the opening track is glorious, all from a Casablancas demo. The dry guitars and distorted vocals are iconic. Listening again there are so many high points in the album, like the solo in last nite, or the chorus in hard to explain. It is such a well crafted album. The playing is quite restrained and minimal at times, so when there’s a change in the drums or a guitar riff, or a melodic bass line comes in, it really has impact.
March 12, 2024 HL: title track, “The Modern Age”, “Someday”, “Last Nite”, “Hard to Explain” Playing catchup. Not only is today the first time I listened to (all of) the Strokes’ Is This It, it’s the first time for Room on Fire (2003) as well. As someone who leans toward 2000s indie bands, this has been a longtime blind spot. At the same time, I couldn’t see the appeal in diving deeper into their catalogue past “Last Nite” and “Reptilia”, as catchy as they were. So what to say about their debut that hasn’t been said? I don’t have any emotional connection to it, but after the 5 killer highlights I listed earlier, and my next favourites “Soma” & “New York City Cops”, there’s not really any loss of quality with the remaining 4 tracks. They built a pretty airtight ship here. And the next one might be just as catchy, if not more so! Damn, nothing to justify my playlists going sans-Strokes all this time. Somewhere between 4 and 5, but I’ll round up tonight.
ASSSSSSS ALBUM!!! Fav songs: - Is This It - The Modern Age - Barely Legal - Someday - Last Nite - Hard to Explain
Man, that bass line in the title track gets me every time. Is this a Great Album? It is if you ask everyone I went to high school with. While there’s definitely some filler, I can’t deny that this is an excellent listen. Last Night, Someday, Hard to Explain are the singles for good reason. The album has great pacing and lasts as long as it should. Was torn between a 4 and a 5 but add on that this influenced a whole new wave of bands and it gets to the cinco.
Man. It feels like it's been forever since I've gotten an album that I was actually excited to listen to. Every day for the past week or so (possibly even more) I've clicked on the next album button wondering "is this it?" Well, fortunately, "Is This It" is, in fact, it. This album is awesome. I love it. It feels like what the modern equivalent to something like The Velvet Underground would sound like in the best way possible. I think the clearest example of this is in the singing. Julian Casablancas is like if Lou Reed was a good singer. That was a joke, but I do like this singing more. The sound is just great. It's like the perfect mix of punk, alt-rock, and even pop at times. The writing is quite good as well. There's depth to this album. There really isn't a bad song. The popular ones like Last Nite are deservedly popular, but even the tracks that don't get talked about as much still stand strong. This isn't that important, but I find that both the original album cover and the replacement are quite good. I think the original fits the album better, but I do really like looking at the replacement. Although, that's not to say that the original isn't visually pleasing in a different way, if you know what I'm saying. Overall, this is easily the best album I've gotten in a while, and my second favorite album of 2001, only behind Toxicity by System of a Down. 5/5.
simply iconic, enjoyed listening to british version over US this time even though it's just one track.
Favorite Tracks: Hard To Explain Someday Last Night
Is This It So good when it first came out. In fact I think I might have bought it in Melbourne when I came to visit you Paul. July 2001, so the timing checks out. Think I also bought the Purple Hills single by D12 at the same time. Is this still good or is there too much nostalgia? I love that the first track played with the idea of hype and disappointment. Obviously the hype was huge, so to open with a detached sounding song that never quite builds and then just sort of finishes is great. Super bassline hanging the whole thing together. Banger after banger. No matter how derivative the songs might be or how self consciously cool they wanted to be the songs are excellent. For their particular style and template it really is fantastic. No weak tracks. 35 mins. Superb. Love the overall sound, particularly that dry drum sound and the rhythm guitars. Although Last Night is basically American Girl the rhythm guitar is Lennon-esque, not quite the triplets of All My Loving but a nice version of it. It so heavily reminds me of early 2000s and absolutely loving it but I don’t think it sounds dated, it’s still great, unlike a lot of bands albums they followed in their slipstream. Musically and aesthetically they had the same effect on rock music as Nirvana did a decade before, you can see clear a line before and after of how indie rock bands looked and sounded. My only slight reservation is that sometimes I think it’s too studied a synthesis of cool influences and is it really them, is there an artifice that I can’t quite see through? But then I think I’m overthinking it and every time I listen to it I love it. So it has to be a 5, can’t be anything else. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
For me, perfectly formed
a perfect album if ever there was one.. the bassline to is this it alone makes this a five star-er
Listened to this none stop when it came out (and before, thanks SoulSeek!). Every single track is a banger.
I really liked this. Been meaning to listen to some of their stuff.
Great album, own it already
Never heard this all the way through before and idk how, it’s perfect. “After the September 11 attacks, the American compact disc release was delayed from September 25 to October 9 and had its track list amended, with the song "New York City Cops" being removed and replaced.” Lol
i love the strokes ‼️‼️‼️ wtf is the touch of a woman 🤨 5/5
A fun pop album reminding me of the vibe when I first hear block party. Loved the tone of the drums and the overblown vocals. Overall not my favorite listen but haven’t come across any bad songs.
11/11 songs saved
Last Nite got me into this Band. All the other songs made me stay
Fuck yeah.
I was shocked because I didn’t think it was going to be that good!!!
Legitimately perfect rock album. Boomer comment of I remember back in my day when “New York City Cops” was on it instead of “When It Started.”
Good! Great guitar and vocals. Interesting lyrics too
Excellent!
I wasn’t sure at first if I liked this or not, but I eventually warmed up to it and it clicked for me in the second half. This album is amazing. The lyrics paired with the distorted vocals are fun. The instrumentals, while samey, are very energetic and fun to listen to. The distorted percussion on some tracks sounds great as well. Good production as well. All around good
Amazing album
Ever come across an album that you feel bad about not having listened to during its prime? This is one of those for me. I know The Strokes and grew up hearing them on the radio, and even have some of their newer stuff on regular rotation. But for whatever reason I never gave this record a fair shake. Wrong decision, because this is fantastic! Carefree indie rock that's so representative of the early 2000s. The instrumentals are simple, the melodies are easy, and the vocals are never anything complicated. Sonically, it's not actually anything that's particularly exciting. The sound and its simplicity are very much evocative of my childhood, though. Music has many qualities, but nostalgia is an easy way to my heart. Standouts are The Modern Age and Someday.
Yes it is.
This is one of my favorite albums of all time. Notable tracks include is this it?, the modern age, someday, last nite, hard to explain, trying your luck. Great band.
I drank some beers with Julian Casablancas once. Strange dude. 5/5
It's a stunner
The best strokes album
One of Colins favorites
Undeniable. We pirated this music, burned MP3s, traded music on MegaUpload and distributed it widely. All of us music nerds know rock and roll and indy music was on life support and the wider music world was stuck listening to bands like Korn, Linkin Park, System of a Down and Green Day before this broke. This was exciting. Some of us hated it immediately because it was successful, it wasn't indy enough, but the wider world appreciated the change and that sparked more unique NYC bands to be recognized. This music created a world that us 90's kids dreamed of, but weren't ready for and instead tried to look the other way. (Buddyhead, I'm talking to you) But it's undeniable. Like time, it ages, you age and the world keeps spinning and hindsight is 20/20. Today, this is easily available on Spotify and everything else is discoverable (even AI generated tracks ;). But I think the era that Is This It bloomed, was last physical movement in music, or indy music if you can call it that. Hopefully, you are able to be a paying member of your favorite music streaming service. Hopefully you still go out to see bands and hopefully are still part of the community. Hopefully you visit the merch bar, buy a t-shirt or vinyl and support the music you listen to. And, hopefully, you've discovered that if you pay for Spotify, you're entitled to 14 hours of audiobooks and have discovered Meet Me In the Bathroom, the book by Lizzie Goodman which can provide a much better interpretation of this era than I can... but if you haven't you can always stream the movie. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UgHN-YE7IPI
Another wonderful discovery through the 1001. I’ve heard of The Strokes and Last Night or course, but I had never gone out of my way to listen to their music. And I’m glad I did. I’m in love with the lo-fi-ness of this album. The basement recording with minimal sound processing and imperfections included sounds enticingly gritty. The vocals sound like they were recorded from the output of a $50 amp. I don’t feel like there is a single track that is a drop off from the rest. I’ll be coming back to this album for sure.
Obv amazing
Great album, have a pandora station off these guys and already knew most of them.
Loved
SAME AS IT EVER WAS
5- Stars (13/15)
One of my favorite albums of all time
The album that changed my life. Would give 500 stars if I could.
Fantastic album
absolute heater
Hmm, vad kan detta vara? Bra grejer
New York city cops var lite weird
Man, I fucking love The Strokes. This debut album is by no means "The New Abnormal" but it clearly shone a light about the kind of band they were set to become.
Legendarisch album.
Wow ... phenomenal, epitome of indie rock. Songs are so catchy and are excellently written and mixed
A rock band of a classic take, from a more modern band
I can hear the new decade in this record! Super innovative. Awesome guitar and bass playing, with an insanely tight band. It would lose points for being a bit repetitive but I respect it so much artistically I think I can round up.
love it
Awesome! I bought this when it first came out, but had forgotten how great it is. Classic!
Outstanding from beginning to end. Really enjoyed every song.
Lots of hits.
Is This It, is, in my opinion, where The Strokes peaked. IMO this album is the epitome of 00s rock and defined their sound for the next decade, until they transformed into their current, more pop-y form. Someday and Last Nite are two of the most important rock tracks of the 00s and I love them. Easy 5/5 for me.
Also very nostalgic for me. I am learning that my dad has great taste in music. I really dig this!
Indie awakenings. Primavera sound disappointments. In my forever playlist.
Very familiar with this one. Love The Strokes. Easy 5 star.
Classic.
LAAAAAAAAAST NIIIIIIIIIIIIIGHT, SHEEEEEEEEE SAIDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDD OH BABY I FEEEEEEL SO DOWNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNN Is This It: 4.5 The Modern Age: 4 Soma: 3.5 Barely Legal: 4 Someday: 5 Alone, Together: 4.5 Last Nite: 5 Hard to Explain: 5 When It Started: 4 Trying Your Luck: 4.5 Take It Or Leave It: 5
Is This It is the perfect album. The Strokes came along in the early 2000’s and helped pave a new road away from all the weirdness that arose in the late 90’s. They didn’t over complicate it, they made a perfect album with jangly guitars, clean drums and Casablancas with his seemingly effortless delivery singing about sex, youth and drugs with wit. Everything about this band was cool, the album art is iconic, the band logo was awesome, they were here to save rock and they did. This is the most defining album of my high school experience and unlike other favourites from my teenage years, aged beautifully. This remains my favourite album of all time, I will be singing along to this til I die. 10 stars
Interesting that you've not received my comments or voting...I have done so on my phone? I gave this album 5 stars! or higher if I could. It was awesome. Great lyrics and musicality was spot on...I Loved it, was surprised as i had heard some of the songs from before, but had not remembered the name of the band!!
Probably The Strokes best album, and for good reason. It contains most of the hits they are known for, and the rest of it is also really good - though it took me a bit longer to appreciate perhaps. I think they do a great job of sounding modern, but also manage to rub off some older indie band vibes like The Smiths. I can't swear exactly on how much The Strokes have influenced other bands, but if Alex Turner from the immensely successful Arctic Monkeys sings "I just wanted to be one of The Strokes", I have a vague idea.
favourite song: alone, together so difficult to pick a favourite here. one of the best albums of its era. a masterpiece of an album thats good enough that i can forgive the band for (mostly) being private school rich kids.
Hell yeah. Favorite band in high school and the highwater mark of the post-punk revival in the early aughts. Tons of brilliant stuff, even if their constant need to be hip (and drunk) was off-putting even as a teen. It's hard to remember, but this was one hell of a band up until their third LP when things started to fall apart. Essential.
This is one of the greatest albums ever written. I just wish that New York City cops was on the default version of the album
Is this it? Yes it is. Indie rock perfection. It's like Marquee Moon for the 2000s. Short and to the point, fun, catchy, iconic. *Heard before (a lot)
A brilliant album, in part genre defining of east coast indie rock of the early 2000s. The Modern Age is a perfect song.
One of my favorite albums ever. Julian Casablancas will forever be one of my favorite musicians. Only second perfect 5.0 album for me 175 albums in. I fell in love with the new abnormal which has lead me on the path to seeking out new music which in turn lead me to this website. Only fair to give this one a 5.0 just for that. Julian’s other band the Voidz is awesome too if anyone has read this far but doubt they’re represented on this list. Rating: 5.0
Solid. Never heard this album and I enjoyed it a lot. There is a lot of swagger in the singers voice. It's probably the best part of the album. I'll listen to this again.
This is the perfect album. I love every song. Each moment I could recognise from the tiniest of clips because the sound they’ve created is so distinctive and stylised. Always a joy to listen to and it’s never not in rotation for me.
Oh Maya says I'm lacking in depth I will do my best You say you want to stand by my side Darling your head's not right Ah see, alone we stand together we fall apart Yeah I think I'll be alright I'm working so I won't have to try so hard Tables, they turn sometimes Oh someday No I ain't wasting no more time And now my fears they come to me in threes So I Sometimes Say fate my friend you say the strangest things I find sometimes This album is pretty great. 5/5
9/10. Consistently high quality throughout, and ends before the sameyness of the songs becomes oppressive.
Man I love The Strokes. 9/10
I was very late to the party when it came to The Strokes. I dismissed them as overhyped rich kids making standard rock music. Probably not bad but I didn't have the time to bother. When I finally got around to listening to this, I could see what I had been missing. The album is so much better than I'd expected. It's not often that a band manages to balance on the fine line between mainstream radio-friendly rock and unpolished underground indie. But the Strokes managed and the album still holds up well. Easy 5 stars.
Dopamine hit with every start of every song, absolutely love this album
Not even their best album and it’s still filled with bangers
Fantastic album, love The Strokes anyway and can listen to this album time and time again ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
I went into this one totally cold having only ever heard of the band name but not knowing the music. At just over 35 minutes this album was consistently strong throughout and didn't have an ounce of padding on it. For a debut album this was surprisingly good and I enjoyed it from front to back.
