Reviews (page 13 of 13)
Pretty disappointing. I was excited to finally hear Freebird, but it didn't do much for me. The rest of the album has decent, passionate playing but is let down by average songwriting and clichéd lyrics.
yeah idk..i have some fun childhood memories with some of these songs but coming back to it nothing blew me away
Mostly swamp rock that didn’t quite fit the idea I had from Free Bird or Sweet Home Alabama. Was fine, but didn’t really grab my attention until the last track. Doubt I’ll revisit.
I’ve never loved them, glad it’s not all ‘Freebird’ but still not winning me over to a daily listen.
Simple man and Free bird are recognizable.
This one doesn’t even have fuckin Sweet Home on it. What’s the point? Neil Young just released a new album in 2025 and he still whips your asses. Why’d you disappear, anyway? Oh right. The title of the album was strictly for the band’s benefit, ‘cos sometimes they’d forget. They knew three chords and their lyrics were the Crystal Pepsi of southern rock. Too bad Tom Petty came later or we might have done without you entirely.
Freebird is good everything else falls short
Nope. Never really liked them-SUCH rednecks, not my sound, don't like his voice or attitude and if I ever hear Freebird again it will be too soon.
This isn't my jam. I can appreciate it for what it is, but it's not for me.
I kept shouting "Play Free Bird" for 34 minutes. 34 minutes in purgatory. 34 minutes listening to Lynyrd Synyrd. 34 minutes listening to Southern Rock. I don't think that was 34 minutes well spent.
⭐️⭐️⭐️ half decent, mostly forgettable. some of these songs (particularly Tuesday's Gone) felt like they went on entirely too long for my liking i would agree that free bird's a must-hear song, but everything else? nah minus points for apparently being racists too
2 sterne
Most of the songs fell into the back of my mind and melted into one song, other than Gimme Three Steps and Free Bird. Decent album, great guitar work, I liked the piano part on Things Goin' On, but overall not my thing, I got tired of it fairly quickly.
Ultimately didn't mind this too much when it reminded me of Black Keys. But we don't support Confederate glorifiers in this house because look where overlooking traitors to this country hasn't gotten us?
I have trouble, sometimes, separating a band's music from the band's fan base. In the case of Lynyrd Skynyrd, even at just the mention of the band, what immediately comes to mind are white trash hillbillies festooned in Rebel Flag merch screaming something about their "heritage." It seems that at some point in 2012, the band stopped using Confederate imagery on their album covers, but that's too little too late and it hasn't stopped their mouth breathing fans from rocking the stars and bars. With that being said, I was shocked to actually enjoy the first half of this album. It's the sound that every southern rock band has tried to emulate but usually fall well short of achieving. "Tuesday's Gone" has been used in so many film soundtracks that it's kind of cliche at this point and I'm fairly certain I've been to a Southern funeral or two at which it's played, but it's honestly a pretty solid tune. Speaking of cliches, this album ends with "Free Bird." I hate this song. But, if you go to a concert to see any band of any genre anywhere in the world and someone doesn't yell "Play Free Bird" in between songs, did you really go to a concert? 2 stars. I'd almost allow myself to give it 3 for "Tuesday's Gone" and the album's pretty solid first half, but I'm sticking with 2 because their fans can really suck.
Pretty average but also I'm docking a star for the whole racism thing Fav Track: Free Bird Least Fav Track: no standouts here
It’s fine it’s chill and love free bird but not all that interesting
It's ok. Even quite good. Really good at times. Can't comment on the good ole boy racist elements cos I'm not from the US and largely unaware, except to say that's it's REALLY NOT FRICKEN NECESSARY, and I'm not with it. Musically outstanding for a debut. Four stars, down to two for being needlessly intolerant and and endorsing hatred. Simple Man is great. Tuesday's Gone is ok. Freebird is quality. Racism sucks. Two stars.
Free bird is a classic and it's a bange but I am not a country fan
Simpel musik for simple mænd Udtales Red-Neks
In terms of Southern rock, the Allmans wipe the floor with these guys. If I never heard “Free Bird” again, it’ll be too soon.
Three for the music, one for the racism. Always the question: can you separate the art from the artist?
Ah dropped mah confederate flag in mah moonshine and everything like that goshdarnit.
I don't really like Skynyrd or southern rock. Tuesday's Gone is probably my favorite song on the album, and the solo on Free Bird is very good even if I don't really care for the song itself.
Those guitars are annoying, those lyrics are stupid
meh
Tuesdays Gone - and so are my hopes of becoming a Skynhead The mixing is immaculate. I’m glad the whole album wasn’t free bird, and the more reserved bluesy tracks that weren’t the popular hits were a welcome relief, and were even good. But the songs are so long and don’t do anything interesting enough to hold my attention, and I just don’t care for them anymore than I did before Best - Mississippi Kid Worst - Free Bird
Simple Man.
Wouldn’t have listened to this before but I quite like the southern rock sound now and Free Bird is a classic. Goes on a bit though.
it's not that i hate it, i just don't like this doodley wohoo sound too much.
Hard rock band from the 70’s. Some good music.
I wanted to like this, but it's dull. Dull, dull, dull.
Better than I expected. Wouldn’t mind someone else putting this on, but wouldn’t reach for it myself.
Simple Man on mainio, muuten omaan makuun vähän tylsää menoa.
A little too old fashioned for me, free bird was fine though.
I’m going to call this Mom Rock - because my own Mother knew the lyrics to ever Skynyrd song that came on the radio.
3/5
Decent, not my kind of music. Listened while driving in Honda civic. I can see some of its influence
There’s a certain stereotype of a Lynyrd Skynyrd fan that, as someone who grew up in Missouri, I have had the extreme misfortune of verifying many times over. So I never really sat down and listened to the band. Turns out I wasn’t missing anything. This band is what a confederate flag sounds like.
Another insanely popular American album that I have zero emotional connection with, because I'm not American. Was it worth listening to 36 minutes of the most generic blues rock ever recorded just to hear the "Free Bird" solo? ...Kinda? "Rossington vomited on the sidewalk seconds after the album cover was taken" Hell yeah brother.
wow maybe the most WHO GIVES A FUCK album of all time. gave up and listened to metallica so
It's a 2. All day long. Sometimes that feels harsh, but this isn't a 3. But it's not so God awful that it deserves 1. At times it's gets really textured and surprisingly orchestral. But that's fleeting and it's mostly just that US 70s rock that is mostly fine.
This sounds exactly as I expected. Has NOT aged well I'm afraid.
Although I don’t like country elements, Lynyrd Skynyrd puts up an interesting album that doesn’t leave me clawing my ears out
A slower tempo. Not something I expected
I thought, Feeebird aside, it was a whole lot of nothing really.
How do you even rate this? I can see why it did what it did, but, a day later I can't tell you one thing I remember from the album.
Here's the thing about Lynyrd Skynyrd: I don't care for them even for a second. But: "Freebird" is actually great, with a special shout-out to Guitar Hero, the game that helped me realize that "Freebird" is actually great. Both of these stars are for "Freebird."
Free bird absolutely annihilated the rest of this album i don’t have anything else to say
I’m finding these classic rock records so hard to rate. Outside of the songs that have stood the test of time a lot of these tunes are first time listens and I have to admit that I’m not the biggest fan. It’s not that they’re bad it’s just that they don’t do anything for me. They are of their time and I’m not nostalgic for them at all. I’m happy others find so much joy from this but to me it’s bland rock. 2.5/5
Just wasn't my cup of tea, but there's truly beautiful moments of lyricism and instrumentals on display. I don't think I added any songs except Simple Man, and considered Free Bird, but the length felt too long for myself.
Average rock. Not my thing. Boring to me.
It's aight. I mean, it is what it is -- the birth of the death of classic rock radio.
Those songs are loooooooooong
Free Bird is not as much of a banger as I remember, the rest of the album is utterly forgettable and I found out they’re racist?? No thanks!!! Getting really sick of the 70s tbh.
the most boring person you know will insist that this is as good as rock music gets, and theyre so wrong. free bird is very good tho
It's fine. It's fun. Not shure I've got much more to say.
I just can't. I even like a couple songs. simple man is good. but wailing guitars is not my thing more than 3 songs in a row and my ears explode. I'm moving on.....
Decent country rock vibes. Nothing particularly special though.
It’s not for me, but Free Bird is a classic.
Not really an album for me. I don't care for the aesthetic of these songs or the fact that they don't change a whole lot and it feels like they drag on. "Gimme Three Steps" and "Free bird" are pretty good. I feel to much like a hillbilly listening to these tracks.
Not for me
Yeah, Freebird carries.
Allt í lagi, engin bomba.
very guitar solo rock 2.4
Wikipedia: "As the band worked up "Simple Man" in rehearsal, Kooper expressed his feeling that the song was weak and should not be included on the album. The band felt differently on both counts and could not change Kooper's mind. Ultimately, Van Zant escorted the producer outside to his car and ordered him to remain there until the song was recorded. The band recorded the song on their own with the producer absent from the studio, and it subsequently became one of Lynyrd Skynyrd's best known tracks."
Not for me... One extra star for Freebird but can’t quite get past the racism.
Is every Lynyrd Skynyrd song like 18 minutes long? Or do they all just feel this way? 3 stars, -1 star for racism.
Eh. Probably good for it's day.
Outside the hits, it's a pretty underwhelming collection of 70s country-rock.
A victim of its own success. This album has been played to death. “Change the station!”, I bark in one breath. This review is not a limerick (just ask Jim or Rick).
Don’t hate Tuesdays Gone. I have more tolerance for 3 guitars, keys and longer jams. Relieved this album does not contain Sweet Home Alabama. Feels right to listen to this contractor rock sitting in my truck during my work break. The guitar riffs are hooky but it just sounds like any bloooz rockin boomer dad. Gimme three steps is tedious. Simple Man I enjoy— can feel the lineage to 90’s rockers like Temple of the Dog. Don’t mind that. Apparently this song played when my friend Greg was born and his parents cried. After that the record is a slog for me. When free bird ended it took me a moment to compute that the record was over. Thank god. Kinda f/w this album artwork. Bone font & outfits. Happy there are no stars and bars featured here even though 90% of their promo photos have the confederate flag. I don’t know who from the photo died in the plane crash but now I’m curious.
I enjoyed this album, possibly because it followed Mariah Carey? I’m not a big fan of country rock but I am a fan of guitar solos and there are plenty of those. I’m not sure I would listen to this again but I’m glad I have listened to it once. On reflection, (I’m listening to free bird as I type this) the guitar solos bang on a bit too much. This album was getting a three, but I have reduced it to a two based on the needless monotony of the free bird solo. This review was started at the beginning of the free bird solo and it’s still going!! It’s just at that really high fast twangy bit and starting to come down a bit. Oh, it’s starting to fade, I hate a fade as a way of dealing with a song ending, but I’m going to give this one a pass, I just wish it had faded sooner.
I feel like I should have liked this one more than I did, but I found it pretty boring and hard to get through tbh (or maybe it was too much prosecco and too little sleep after NYE?). Country/southern rock isn't really my thing (except CCR but that's all sentimental) So I could skip listening to this album again - except for Free Bird which is epic (even with the very long solo). What I didn't quite get was there are 7 musicians on the cover of the album, but the songs feel like there are only 4 or maybe 5 people playing at once? hmm Fird birdiest track: Free bird
Boring
Classic and nostalgic from movie soundtracks to being a teenager but just not something I would listen to nowadays.
Free bird is a classic, the rest fairly forgettable
Hvorfor er den LP på listen?
Kinda overrated honestly
(Nam plays out in the background)
p286. 1973. 2.5 stars. Well done Southern state rock, but suffering from the usual early 70s wankage. No-one needs 9+ minute tracks, not even Freebird. They seem like quite good guitarists though.
I don't want to listen to this. I'm gonna listen to the first 30 secs of every song instead. Initial impressions are I'd really like this if I were 50. And there are prob some nights after I've been drinking a long time where I'd like this. Gimme three steps rules ofc. I'm listening to this in the port authority getting on prov bus. Didn't realize simple man was on here. Alright I'm kinda done with this. I'm in a real give it a chance type of mood and it's not hitting. I gave much more than 30 secs to each song
No thanks. Free Bird has its moments, but the rest is super boring.
Nah 2/5
Easy listening blues rock, the best bit is the harmonizing guitar leads and melodic (vs shredding) solos. The songs are overlong - chugging along through one basic chord progression over and over verse chorus chorus chorus solo chorus. Tuesday's Gone is good, the rest is pretty meh and I cannot listen to Freebird one more time. Listen to Little Feat and the Allman Brothers instead.
Pretty good
I've heard this band name before but I can't remember where. Despite this sign of dementia I can't say I liked this much, aside from Free Bird
I did not have fun. If I have to listen to Free Bird, then I at least want to be watching that video of the Polish hot dog machine malfunctioning. Have you guys seen that video?
It's a bit of Led Zeppelin and a bit of The Band, but not as good as either of them. In all fairness, they were there before The Band. They know how to play, but the songs are not very interesting to me. Favorite song: I ain't the one. Because they obviously aren't.
2.75
Didn’t fully win me over this one. A fair bit of the same old stuff that didn’t grab me all that much, except for maybe Free Bird, which is by far the best track here.
Skipped through most of it. Was OK but not really my thing
Freebird is always fun but the rest just sounds like southern Red Hot Chili Peppers
Classic American rock n roll. Very earnest. Obviously great guitar work, but not really one I would return to. Two stars.
Dull
Free Bird, more like Free Time to Go Take a Nap. Mississippi Kid, more like Miss-I-Can’t-Listen To This. Things Goin’ On, more like Nothing Goin’ On. Poison Whiskey, man, I hope it is. I Ain’t the One is already appropriately named. Gimme Three Steps, more like Let Me Take Three Steps away from this album. I’ll be here all week.
fav(s) - things goin on - simple man
The classicest of classic rock from the Southern States. I didn't hate it, but any Southern Man would love it. I was surprised to find that I didn't recognise Free Bird. I always thought it was on Forrest Gump (but perhaps that's just the solo?). Either way, the track didn't really strike me in the way I expected given its reputation as a classic. Rating: 2.5/5 Playlist track: Free Bird Date listened: 02/05/23
Lmao I feel dumb but I never realized that the Talking with T-Bird theme from RHAP is a parody of Free Bird
Can see why people might like this, but needs something more exciting in this genre for me.
"You’ve got to remember that these are just simple farmers. These are people of the land. The common clay of the new West. You know… "Lynyrd Skynrd. I'm getting tired of southern blues rock. The songs get longer and longer, the guitar solos wail and wail and wail all the way home. And I know somewhere in my 1001 album future is CCR, and that just might break me. Freebird goes fine, but I prefer the bagpipe version.
Free bird dröm, resten meh
Like aerosmiyh but duller
Unimportant
Not my bag
Meh
Meh. (Also, that whole confederate flag thing isn’t exactly appealing.)
Heard it before?: No Enjoy it?: Yeah it’s decent enjoyable dad rock Favourite song: Track 4 - Simple Man
Bit boring
As terrifying as these dudes look on the album cover, this isn't too bad. I think I only knew "Free Bird" previously, which is obviously a great song. Not really my thing anymore though, 3 min long screechy guitar solos don't really turn my head like they used to! Apart from that song, I found most of this pretty forgettable...they're no Creedence anyway
No album has any right to have two ballads as big as "Tuesday's Gone" and "Free Bird."
Generic 70's guitar riffs, etc... BUT WHAT DOES IT ALL MEAN?
It's pronounced 'Leh-'Nérd 'Skin-'Nérd but what does it mean? WHAT DOES IT MEAN!?!?!
Rock, irgendwie nix außergewöhnliches
no es mi tesito
No thanks
4/10
Sept 18/19?
Frankly, I find Lynyrd Skynyrd mildly boring and uninspiring even before we add the "that did not age particularly well" factor.
My son has recently discovered 'Freebird'. I've tried to talk him out of it.
Not my favorite
Extremely competent but continues to not grab me. As for Freebird, impossible to hear without picturing a high Jenny (Robin Wright) pinballing around a balcony.
I've never been a fan, due to my dislike of Sweet Home Alabama, but the first song I can dig. It has an Allman Brothers-meets-the-Stooges feel to it. "Tuesday's Gone" and the intro to "Three Steps" sound Stones inspired. The anthems (which I've managed to avoid most of my life) sound a bit Eagles-inspired and you know how we all feel about the Eagles. If you remove the anthems, and just listen to the more bluesy numbers, it's not bad, though it falls short of The Drive-By Truckers Southern Rock Opera which was dedicated to Lynyrd Skynyrd, and I gave that a 3, though I was stingy.
Listen to opening track ‘I Ain’t The One’, bluesy rocker ‘Poison Whiskey’ and the rightly lauded closer ‘Free Bird’. Skip the rest.
good music. I don't care for the vocals or lyrics; not bad just not my thing
I will pronounce it Lin-Erd Ski ln-Erd until I die.
Ik vind dit een saai album. **
I'm starting to think I might be allergic to Southern Rock. Either that or I have a Southern Rock intolerance. If I drank enough whiskey it might help me to be able to digest this deep fried pork chop of an album. Either way I think I might end up puking.
Blues and guitars, and more guitars… great musicians, but a bit boring after a while
Not my thing
Only ever heard one song by Lynyrd Skynyrd, and it was not on this album. Overall it's an ok album fitting into country blues rock style which I'm not really a fan of. Best: Gimme Three Steps Worst: Mississippi Kid
Not a fan of country aesthetics or rock in general, but the second half of Free Bird is amazing. I Ain't The One and Gimme Three Steps are pretty solid, but the rest falls flat. 4/10
There are some good songs in here, but they're all buried beneath way too much gratuitous noodling to enjoy listening to.
Got a bit bored, especially in the second half, and some songs dragged a bit. To be fair, there are some good'uns, like Simple Man, and if this album came on while I was in a bar in the southern US of A it's probably exactly what I'd want to hear. Most of the time I'm not, though. 2.5 stars.
So very boring. Only reason it's 2 stars is because of Free Bird.
Ja, Regelrechter Rock mit Herzblut und ordentlich Zug an der Bourbon Nuckel. Gut und solide, aber genial? Nope! Mama told me to give more than 2.4
Thin Lizzy iski paljon kovempaa saman genren bändeistä.
yikes for having this on the list
OMG - beyond unlistenable, just a horrible, horrible one star. Tom.
Hard to separate the music from the performers. So I won’t. Take your confederate flag and shove it up your arse.
Blues country rock with a side of racism? No thanks. You can meme on shouting “freebird” all you want but it’s still a crap song sung by confederate sympathisers.
Murica
Not me
very boring
Nah! I don't hate Skynyrd, I "heritage" them. So instead I'm gonna review Imagination by Gladys Knight & the Pips and THEN put a list of other albums from 1973 that are worth being on this list instead. Having never heard Imagination in full and only knowing the hits (Midnight Train and Best Thing), I was a little bummed that I never took the time for the rest of the album. Gladys Knight always kinda sailed under the radar for me, not quite the diva image of Patti but also not the troubadour image of Roberta Flack. That's entirely on me as it turns out, cuz there's some damn good soul on this thing. I think Ms. Knight & the Pips flew out of my range a bit because they sing a lot of covers and songs written not specifically for them. It works out okay, but there's not always a song that fits them like a glove the way Midnight Train does. Like, most other versions of that song are trying their best to live up to this version. I'd give the album a 4/5. Great cuts, classic 70s soul arranging with big ass orchestra and the oboe doing some primary melody stuff. Reminds me of some other Philly soul while reading that this band is from Atlanta. I like it a lot. Here's a list of other albums from 1973 that I like, too: +Al Green - Call Me +Pointer Sisters - Pointer Sisters +Tower of Power - Tower of Power (this one FUCKS) +Donny Hathaway - Extension of a Man (criminal exclusion from this list) +Rufus - Rufus +Roberta Flack - Killing Me Softly +Kool and the Gang - Wild and Peaceful (you don't think a person should hear Jungle Boogie before they die? They'll die having never shaken their ass?) +The O'Jays - Ship Ahoy +Joe Pass - Virtuoso +The Main Ingredient - Afrodisiac +Return to Forever - Light as a Feather +The Stylistics - Round 2 (this one is 1972 but whatever. Great album)
I accidentally turned the volume all the way down halfway during free bird and decided to keep it that way
(Pronounced 'Lĕh-'nérd 'Skin-'nérd) by Lynyrd Skynyrd just isn’t for me. It sits firmly in that Southern rock space that I’ve never really connected with, and this album didn’t do anything to change that. At times it feels like a rougher, less compelling take on Neil Young’s style, but without the same depth or individuality. I can see why it might appeal to fans of the genre, and there’s clearly a strong identity to the band’s sound, but personally I struggled to find anything that really grabbed me or made me want to come back for more. I gave it a couple of listens to be fair, but it never clicked. Compared to something like Fine Art by Kneecap, which feels fresh and interesting, this just didn’t hold my attention in the same way. Favourite tracks: Nothing really stood out or stuck with me Least favourite tracks: The album felt quite flat throughout, with no tracks that broke through or lifted it Album artwork: Fairly standard cover, nothing particularly memorable
no mg un choto
nobody can hate freebird i think but jacksonville's finest failed to impress me. listened to the live version which gave it a bud lite vibe
Just real bad. Simple man is alright and free bird is great but the whole album gives off a real pathetic vibe. The folky stuff does not work here and is just largely forgettable
Fuck Lynyrd Skynyrd
Can’t separate the art from the artist. Confederacy apologists.
Haven’t heard this one for over 50 years. Decided not to listen yesterday either. Nope.
This debacle is proof of the once ever present monoculture. I’ve never once actively sought out Lynard Skynard in any way. I’ve never bought an album, illegally downloaded a song, watched a video, or searched a song on a streaming service, yet I knew every word to half of the songs on this album. They’re not good songs, but somehow they’ve been around my whole life. All hail the monoculture!
This is just one of those albums that leaves a bad taste in my mouth. Glad to get it over with.
I would listen to 2/13 of these songs on this album. I’m not a huge fan of slow songs, or songs with so much guitar in it to the point where it becomes overwhelming. Maybe I’m not a huge fan of the blues, but I wouldn’t turn it off it if came on. It’s a bit of a shock to admit because I am a huge emo/metal/pop-punk listener, but for some reason I can’t seem to feel satisfied listening to this album. “Tuesday’s Gone” seems to be one of the only favorites from this album. I love the melancholy and soft grit in Ronnie VaZant’s voice adds so much character to the music. It makes me feel like I’m far from home and looking for new ways to find myself. It’s a beautiful song. Another song I enjoyed off this album is “Free Bird,” an easily recognizable song just from the first couple notes. I’ve only ever been properly exposed to this song through memes over the internet, but the lyricism is actually very beautiful, it makes me want to fall in love. One of the longer songs on the album, over 5 minutes long (I can’t go back and check lol.) I love the buildup but I can’t stay for the entirety of it. It starts to feel like a lot. I wish I could go more in depth on how this album made me feel as I am not a fan of country nor “Dad Rock” I find it insufferable and hard to sit through. This album is only an hour and sixteen minutes long but every song felt like an eternity. Im not sure how that’s possible. I read a bit of the description Spotify has for the artists and it’s sad to find out how early into their careers the members have passed on. I believe this album is nice, but I would not willingly turn it on.
I could not ignore how misogynistic and sexist the lyrics are even though the sound was not as bad, the lyrics ruin the experience for me. From the first track, I noticed it and immediately knew how the rest of the album is gonna be, but I still thought I should listen to the whole album before making a judgment.
Let's pronounce it "Meh-nut Shit-turd" instead...Southern Rock Sucks 1/5
No comment for now!
I hate this band so much. I know it's a classic or whatever but I audibly groaned when this came across my radar.
Warum ist das in den Top Alben? Wenig hängengeblieben.
Yuck tbh
Jangly songs that take forever, a vocalist that's uninspired, nope.
Live album
“Free Bird” is the only song I knew. They also wrote “Sweet Home Alabama”. I liked “Simple Man”.
Yeah music is fine but fuck that southern gringo confederate shit
148/1001. (Pronounced 'wʌɾə ˈloːɾəv ˈkræəp')
music is so interesting!
Lame
Omg 2 duds in one week fore
Best Song: Tuesday's Gone Worst Song: Simple Man Added: 3/13
Did not like at all
They will not get royalties from me.
Unfortunately the great musicianship on this record is completely flawed by what this group stood for at the time. I can't help the political things immediately coming to mind when listening. Freebird is such a great song, but I simply cannot listen to it without thinking of hateful societies. A shame.
Over-rated
Not for me
Those songs are the most overplayed songs on Classic Rock radio stations. I really don’t want to hear them ever again. FREE BIRD SUCKS!!!!!
A steaming hot turd if ever there was one
I wish I could give this horrid proto bro country garbage a zero and erase it from history
no es mi estilo
This did absolutely nothing for me. Perhaps if I could hear it without the baggage of being pub-rock influencers it would get another star
Lol
like the happy gilmore riff
Skynard fucking blows.
I think I'm allergic.
Records like this are why I gave up on my initial attempt to listen to all of the albums in this list in chronological order when I reached the mid-70s
There is no questioning this band’s status in the rock music community , the success that they achieved, the inspiration they gave..but it passed me by and even now I revisit it with a more musically open (& educated?) mind (or ears??) but cannot engage wit it, like it or appreciate it, sorry it’s not you it’s me (maybe)
It’s okay.
I was brainwashed to like the songs as a teenager, I still think Freebird is hard to turn off, yeh not my cuppa tea
Eh
No. Just no. There are two songs on here that I could tolerate on the car radio if I were driving through the actual Alabama for a bit of 'local color' if on a vacation in the US' southeast, which in 2024 you'd have to pay me for. The better one of those is a meme on Youtube. At #120, the most boring and just unattractive entry in 70ies rock so far.
I bleed...
White guy southern rock isn’t my thing.
No thank you
I'm at a loss for how to rate music by people that are demonstratively shitty. This is gonna keep happening with this list and I go back and forth each time. Great music for a Klan rally, I guess? 1.
Although this should be up my alley, I could never get into Skynyrd. Apart from Sweet Home Alabama, their stuff always feels a bit heavy-footed. The ‘blue collar’ lyrics feel like a schtick. For example Simple Man - a song about the homespun advice of a mother, telling her son to live a modest life… all set to thunderous , legs apart bombastic rock chords. Seems contradictory. Compare that to Salt of The Earth by The Stones where a similar theme is backed a more folksy, stripped back arrangement. Freebird is similarly ponderous navel-gazing strewn with interminable distorted guitar solos. There’s no interplay, it’s just three lead guitarists taking turns to try and out-wank each other. Gimme Three Steps is reasonable because they tone it down a bit, but the lyrics are so bad (“Hey there fella with the hair coloured yella”) that even a simple boogie tune gets annoying. I pretty much hate this.
enjoyed a fair few riffs especially “gimme three steps” but sounds sooo dated and corny overall.
No thanks.
0 Estrellas no 1
Kai tää on ihan solidia kamaa, mutten vaan jaksa kiinnostua
Won't listen to this racist band
orka kje høyra meir enn 2 songa sorry
Landed up just skipping though all the songs. I'm partial to 70s music but this ain't for me
Rock un peu country. Bon guitariste Chanteur avec une voix caractéristique. Du whiskey dans toutes les tounes. Pas très original.
Not sure an album about hard-drinking, gun-toting Americans is reading the room well right now. This album had no redeeming features for me and I really hope I never hear any of these songs again.
Nope
Not my style
No esta sweet home alabama!
nope
Unfortunately I really just am not a fan of the "rock sound" right now, couldn't make it through the album - due to time restraints and just because i was so unbearably bored. Not a fault of the album, just my own personal taste. Will not revisit.
