Two words fuck Clapton

This is the first one I couldn't be bothered to finish. I can normally spearate the art from the artist, but a known racist profiting from uninspired cover versions of songs by Black artists makes that impossible. Naming the album after the fancy house he was living in at the time just adds to my disdain for this man. A good guitarist but none of the performances on here interested me at all.

Sorry, but i refuse to spend the last Day Of 2025 listening racist (but talented) people.

0.5 - Fuck Eric Clapton

What was the point of this. This is supposed to be impressive because it sounds good? There's no creativity because Clapton is seemingly unable to add any of his own flair to songs that he covers. He didn't write the songs, he didn't improve the songs, he just recorded them again in his voice. What even is the point of being one of the best guitarists ever if you aren't going to go all out. It's like the world was in a hangover from the 60s and wanted less challenging music. Fuck that... Eric should be playing like in Cream. Go raw and make music for music fans, not for barbershops.

I'm not listening to this, he's having precisely none of the half penny he'd get if I did. But I'm rating it anyway just to say "fuck off you racist arsehole".

all the English guys who insist on playing the blues are annoying and embarrassing, but i think clapton may be my least favorite. the weird racist vibes are much stronger with him (for easily verified reasons) and songs like I Can't Hold Out just make my fuckin skin crawl, this little twerp trying to do whatever the fuck he's doing with his voice. he's basically inarguably a good guitar player, but his whole deal inescapably gives me the creeps, i hate listening to his voice, and i think his guitar skills would be much better served in about a million other settings

Further proof that racists can't make good art.

can’t stand him sorry

Whatever

The epitome of appropriative boomer slop.

This is boring as can be. Oh, and f*ck Eric Clapton.

Boring dad rock. Also Mr Clapton is a dick.

terrible

The best part of this experience was finding an alternative listening source on YouTube so I didn't have to directly contribute to Clapton's view count revenue.

I would’ve given this a two as there were at least two songs I could mildly tolerate. Unfortunately for Clapton likability does play a factor.

Look I can understand people having difficulty separating the art from the artist. I've had that with Kanye, I get it. But at least Kanye made good fucking music for a while there. I don't understand people's obsession with artists like Chris Brown or Eric Clapton, the music isn't even good.

...and he got famous making music like this?

Not listening to this cunt!

This album is devoid of any hint of soul.

It’s like if someone stuck Fleetwood Mac in the washing machine and forgot about it. Clapton singing “hand jive” is the single least appealing thing any human being has ever done. 2/10 26/09/25

I recognize that he is a talent but I can’t get past his evil ways.

Here's the review I *thought* I was going to write when I got to Kid Rock. Music sort of sucks. For someone who hates Black people, he sure enjoys stealing their music.

Oh a Clapton album, prepares for middle of the road guitar music. Gets uninspired covers that are not that technically interesting (although Led Zeppelin should sue for Let it Grow). Then I read the bio of the guy. OMG this is why cancel culture exists.

In a nutshell: limp blues rock. Blues standards can be covered respectfully and charismatically. Eric Clapton DOES NOTHING OF THE SORT on this album. Overall: 2/10

Music to leave your kid next to a window to

Fucking hate this prick. Dull uninspired music from a dull uninspired man. All skill no soul. Blues lawyer music, no thanks.

Decided against the Albion fan point as I didn’t love it.

I have Clapton's music blocked on Spotify because he pisses me off so much. No, thanks.

TBH I listened to Big Audio Dynamite instead. Don't listen to racists: “Stop Britain from becoming a black colony. Get the foreigners out,” exclaimed Clapton to his captive audience. “Get the w*gs out. Get the c**ns out. Keep Britain white,” he added. Just part of the rant. This is a problem for me. In full: “Do we have any foreigners in the audience tonight? If so, please put up your hands … So where are you? Well, wherever you all are, I think you should all just leave. Not just leave the hall, leave our country … I don’t want you here, in the room or in my country. Listen to me, man! I think we should send them all back. Stop Britain from becoming a black colony. Get the foreigners out. Get the wogs out. Get the coons out. Keep Britain white … The black wogs and coons and Arabs and f*cking Jamaicans don’t belong here, we don’t want them here. This is England, this is a white country, we don’t want any black wogs and coons living here. We need to make clear to them they are not welcome. England is for white people, man … This is Great Britain, a white country, what is happening to us, for f*ck’s sake? … Throw the wogs out! Keep Britain white!”

Not my Washing machine of tea

Phew. A apparently rotten personality making a hellishly dull and obnoxious album. Every original track Clapton covers is better - and that’s by a long shot. Did he even adapt a single thing in the arrangement of his Bob Marley cover? And yet here we are, 50 years later, still pretending that white musicians “borrowing” (read: looting) from Black music are breaking some kind of artistic ground. Seriously? Looking at you too, Chicago and Blood, Sweat & Tears. Eric Clapton, though? Next-level shite: Not everyone has the audacity to ride to fame on the backs of others and be outright racist while culturally appropriating.

Rambling ode to boredom Lifeless predicable overused guitar licks Muted blues crap making a non blues fan hate blues even more Should review his music not his racism…

Boring. Clapton's voice is its usual lackluster experience, with a bonus wrong turn at ripping off Bob Marley. Not much to speak of for his famous guitar playing, and the songwriting is paint by numbers. Lousy album you do not need to hear before you die.

Pretty boring songs. Super repetitive. Tried to separate music from the artist, but I can only do so much.

It's alright, but it's Clapton

Boring covers

Standouts Please Be With Me

I colonized the sheriff

Fuck you

;/ It bores me ..

ugh… so boring… I guess this theoretically isn't that much worse than every other bluesy rock album, but I just despised listening to this one, i dunno.

Fuck Clapton! Hail Satan!

TIL Eric Clapton is a racist, anti-vax piece of shit who built a career ripping off Black musicians and still thinks he’s a victim. Turns out the only thing legendary about him is his bullshit. Fuck Eric Clapton.

I really don't like this version of the hand jive... the whole thing is just, fine? But I don't think I like it...

Longest 39 minutes of my day. It’s a 2 even separating the art from the artist… a 1 when you factor in how much Clapton sucks.

Fuck Clapton

Everything from Clapton that I've heard in my life was against my will. Including this album. He contributed maybe 2 original songs to the history of rock music and neither are on this album. He's like a background character nobody gives a damn about, I've never met an Eric Clapton fan. He's neither good at anything nor recognizable for anything in particular. This album is a good example of that. 1/5

after reading all the reviews, there's only one thing that i can say: ew. Come on guys, why won’t you understand that every people has flaws? Please seperate the artist and their works first before you write your fucking reviews. but i dont think that we should seperate the two here. both are trash. y'know what they say? members of a great band always flop after going solo. for some better and more emotional white-man-doing-blues-influenced-music, see: "Henry's Dream" by Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds. and it even have a lower score on this site. sorry 1001 album generator, but i just literally believe that you, to some extent, represents the public's music taste. 1/5

It's convenient when jerks make terrible music. Oh racist white guys doing reggae, never change. (or maybe do change, completely & totally, forever.) One of the funniest/dumbest things ever is how many truly great guitarists talked up Clapton like he was the king. George Harrison keeps saying they need Clapton in Get Back to do the solos, and he describes a particular guitar skill well - building up a solo that's it's own little story, with a beginning, middle, and end. It's just that this is a skill George Harrison was a million times better at than Eric Clapton. music: hated. (⌐■_■)

This must be what it feels like to have your life force drained by a vampire.

Why is 0 not an option?

The guitar is fine. Bland. Tidy work meant to sell records. But then he starts singing, and I just can't take it. Something about his voice coming from the back of the throat just makes me squirm. Whitewashing Bob Marley and making it a hit, that just sucks. Then you get to the man himself. Racist anti vax piece of shit. This is bland, soulless music. Don't like it. Complete waste of the time of these session musicians.

Dumb California Album was recorded in 1974, two years before Clapton's Enoch Powell moment. It features a Bob Marley cover that never fails to infuriate me when I hear it in the wild. I was unfamiliar with the other songs before and after listening to them. They are cheap and disposable like the paper napkin and salt packet that come prepackaged with a set of plastic cutlery. I don't buy the notion that this record helped popularize Jamaican music. This was after The Harder They Come. It was after Ob-La-Di Ob-La-Da for goodness sake. And a music as brilliant and vital as reggae certainly would have found a global audience without his 'help'. One time Eric Clapton's son fell out of a window. I can't believe someone was willing to bear Eric Clapton's child.

Fuck Clapton. Shitty album

Awful person, and awful music. A much better combo than awful person and amazing music, because that then leaves you with the moral dilemma of whether to listen to it or not. At least here I can tell both eric clapton and his music to fuck off.

rock para papais (racismo + negacionismo edition) pau no cu desse mano e desse album. medíocre demais.

Somehow I missed this first time through and I'm sorry I caught myself. Never been a fan of Clapton, but my Uncle Jeff insists he's one of the all time greats. But he also thinks the Beatles are great and John Lennon is an inspiration. Love you Uncle Jeff, but are opinions are far apart. Anyway, I have never understood why he is considered to be so good. Just an average blues guy. Considered one the greatest guitarist....why? Apparently I'm just ones of those who don't get it with this dude. This album was very slow with no energy. I Shot the Sheriff.....ooooh controversial, but it's not even your song. The best thing I can say about this album, Let It Grow somehow reminded me of Grandma Morrow's house. I'm sure I heard it there as Jeff is her son, but I kinda smiled for minute. Nothing terrible, just nothing very good either. I'll go with 1.5 1.5

I really try to separate the artist from his/hers work. I really do. I feel that if you don´t a lot of classic rock I impossible to judge because they were assholes the whole lot of the Whit that said; I can´t do it with Clapton. I fucking loathe him as a person. Motherfucker built his career on plundering black music and then he gets on stage and is such a racist fucking cunt that people actually start Rock against racism to counter his cuntiness. Can you imagine how much of a racist you have to be to get a fucking COUNTER MOVEMENT? People get together and hold benefit concerts against you. If not Hitler-level cuntiness, the at least Idi Amin-level. Fuck you Eric. Really fuck you.

stopped a few songs in, not for me lyrically.

Terrible person

Oh god more Clapton. The I shot the sheriff cover is shite. The first track is....ok. everything else is pretty terrible. Give me strength, indeed.

But stealing pile of gentrified wack

I just can't see past how bad of a person he is. While his music might sound alright, he somehow hates the people he ripped it off from. He's also anti-vax which is the nail in the coffin for me. Byeeeee

It's hard to like something when you don't like the person performing. Boring mind numbing stuff.

Feel bad giving this a 1/5 but it honestly bored me to death. Maybe would be better if I was high or something.

White man wibbles to show how amazing he is at gheetaar. 2 stars, minus 1 because Clapton

A bad blues album comprised of a bunch of half-assed covers. One of the only "original" tracks is a rip off of stairway to heaven's iconic chord progression. Simple said, this is a shitty album by a talentless bigot. 1/5

This album cements Clapton’s boring hack period, which he’s been in ever since.

It's telling that the best song on this album by far is the one Clapton didn't write. His funk cover of Bob Marley's "I Shot the Sheriff" is fantastic. It is surrounded by 6 boring and forgettable blues songs, a country song, and 2 blues rock songs that are also pretty forgettable.

I have made my issues with Eric Clapton as both a person and a musician clear in my two previous review of his work. But when talking about (how fucking awful his cover of Little Wing was) his artistic choices on Layla, I neglected to mention a problem that became increasingly relevant through my listening of 461 Ocean Boulevard, which is that Clapton is not a very good singer. He’s got a very limited range, which is something that can be worked around, but he’s also got a very flat and uninterested sounding delivery, and is often pushed very far back into the mix of these songs, so much so that it becomes difficult to distinguish him at all. It makes the dreary, stiff, white Blues on the album all the more uninteresting, because both parts of what should be interesting about a Bluesman of Clapton’s standing, his solos and his vocals, are barely intelligible. I was just utterly bored by this whole project. After I Shot The Sheriff, I cued Bob Marley’s version and, despite it not being a particular favourite Marley song of mine, I was taken by how much better it sounded than Clapton’s version. God this was a boring review to write as well. Everything about 461 Ocean Boulevard is boring, from the title to the cover to the mixing. I’m sorry to take up so much of your time on this boring review of this boring album by this boring artist who also happens to be one of the most unlikeable cunts in existence at the moment

They say you should always separate the art from the artist in the case of artists who are assholes. Sometimes that can be pretty hard, especially if the artist is considered one of the best guitar players of all time. But in the case of 461 Ocean Avenue, I don’t have to deal with that because this album is just shit. It’s a collection of mostly blues covers and none of them are remotely listenable. They’re just dry and boring and uncomfortable to listen to. There is barely a memorable song on this album. So I don’t feel so bad crapping on an artist who is racist, anti-vaxx and overall a talented asshole. I especially don’t feel bad crapping on some shitty covers of black artists by said racist. Seriously that cover of I Shot the Sheriff is balls. “Favorite” track- Please Be With Me (the most tolerable of the album, and solely Clapton’s) Other “hits”- Let it Grow, maybe

Fav: Let It Grow Least Fav: Willie And The Hand Jive Even putting aside my dislike for Eric Clapton, this was just incredibly boring for me.

This blues record sure made me cry alright. Bored me to fucking tears. Not sure why this even made the cut. Layla and Cream is fine for Clapton's contribution to this list. That John Mayall album too I suppose

Just. No.

non mi interessa niente di tutto questo

I tried twice and gave up after 2 songs

Once again, for those who may have missed it... Fuck Eric Clapton!

Not into Eric Clapton. Especially this album. Not to mention, that I get that Bob Marley gained visibility when Clapton covered ‘I Shot the Sheriff’, but really?

Best Song: Let it Grow Worst Song: Get Ready

I just found this really tiresome. I guess I can't dissociate the art from the artist in this one. He is just making very bland and anodyne versions of blues and reggae tunes, I just can't see the attraction....

Countpoint to my Steely Dan review yesterday: I was AT the beach when I got this album, and now I hate the beach and the sun and this stupid planet that produced Eric Clapton

It's a huge mystery how this guy came to be such a big figure in rock. He's a nothing song-writer who relies on covers for anything interesting and then approaches them with pretty familiar arrangements that don't offer anything new. Totally flacid singing and profficient but basically replacement level blues rock guitar, which is meant to be his whole thing? His tone and playing just sounds like a competent JJ Cale rip off on this album. The middle few songs are like bad CSNY/Eagles offcuts, but he's late to the country rock bandwagon. There's a kind of loose jammy feel to the album and it sounds like a group of very capable musicians having fun playing together. But that doesn't mean I want to listen to it - keep the dad rock in the garage! Bland 0 risk pablum that's too dull to be unpleasant.

Eric Clapton is an amazing guitarist, but otherwise way overrated.

mostly skipped through this, i'm not intressted.

Luckily I don't have to think about trying to separate the music from his abhorrent beliefs. I don't like either.

Hmmm, not great (for a 1001 album) when the standout track is a cover. Sure, Clapton is an influential guitarist (and controversial), yadda yadda, but I found this album quite boring.

Album of mainly covers played by a man so toxic he makes ted Nugent look balanced and fair minded.

Everyone in the global reviews is giving this shit because Eric Clapton is a racist old twat, but I really think that's unfair. We must judge the art, not the artist. Luckily this album is boomer shit.

Clapton is a colossal dick and this is insipid stuff

While I was listening I wondered if people considered Clapton to have stolen Blues music. So I googled it and learned that Clapton is a complete and utter garbage human being. Mid music. Total POS. Hard pass.

Not my favorite type of music. Will have to agree with Dad and say mid. Lowkey bad.

Fucking trash. Clapton sucks. 0/0

Fuck this guy. Album is boring and unimaginative.

Eric Clapton’s standing in culture is truly a glitch in the matrix. The original tracks are so fucking bad with embarrassing lyrics and forgettable melodies. The covers/traditionals on this album are really absolutely bland, compared to versions recorded by other artists. On some of the tracks, EC is even credited with arrangement. Translated from megalomaniac, this means dragging his junkie ass into the studio and farting out a low effort blues version of the song. No shame at all. I do not as much care about Clapton being a vile racist, as I want to use it against him, so that we can all collectively move on and forget about his existence. We deserve it. 0.0

Not an Eric Clapton fan.

Other comments mention racist that and anti-vax that, I couldn't care enough to read up on all that, all I know is the music is duller than a bag of burnt out light bulbs.

Not really my thing to be honest, pretty average album, nothing special. Apparently he is also a racist, rapist, and anti-vax. Rating 0/5

I just can’t.

Fuck Clapton.

Dear god this is bad. Most of the songs are covers of better musicians’ works, but Clayton’s original pieces are even worse. Dull beyond measure.

Help me. After listening to the album, I suddenly had some horrific reaction and began my transformation into white trash… no, worse, an Eric Clapton fan! Just leave before I infect you too; please just ggbdhkgcghn-RACISM MISOGYNY WHITE BLUES

Recent events colour my thoughts. I will listen to all 1001 albums but some are hard work.

This record fucking sucks. Eric Clapton sucks. What a shit way to start my Saturday.

Didn’t listen but giving Clapton 1 star because he is a racist prick of a human.

I just can't even with this. Some of the most uninspired straightforward bluesy bullshit I have ever heard. What a joke. Get this guy out of here.

This list has been great for my music education: I now have several reasons why I hate Eric Clapton on a musical level rather than a personal level. Willie and the Hand Jive? Are you kidding???

Fuck this guy.

Shite by a racist COVID denying child murderer. Actually contains the line 'Love is Lovely' in the most milquetoast ripoff of Stairway to Heaven.

No thanks.

Not going to listen

How to separate the shitty person from the music? I guess, I can't.

Eric Clapton’s political leanings color everything he does for me, I did not listen and couldn’t give an unbiased review even if I did.

racist

So I like very few Clapton songs, and none on this album. I hate his racist ass. Ripping off of Black American blues artists for decades. There will be a special room for him and Ted Nugent in hell.

Die middle-of-the-road, voor-ieder-wat-wils sound van Eric irriteert me mateloos. Maakt eigenlijk niet meer uit hoe goed of slecht zijn muziek is; De wereld is toch gewoon beter af zonder Clapton.

fuck eric clapton

Pretty mediocre blues and unnecessary covers + a man (who comes from an imperialist country) exploiting the culture while promoting nationalism/conservatism. Fuck off, Clapton.

boring and mediocre music, shitty guy

Friday, busy work late bad tech (lmao writing this tired I didn't have work), sleep in a little but not a ton, laundry, run with e but felt bad, back errands (plumbing frames, cvs scam, bibi), feel kinda trash and tired, rally, drink, concert, ALVVVAYS, great, come home drink walk talk vibe bed

Bad blues, bad raggea, bad everything. I honestly can't understand why people actually put up with that guy's solo work. One of the most annoying albums I've ever heard.

I genuinely don't get it, and I tried not to let my already present disdain for Clapton bother me, as I do try to separate art from the artist when I can stomach it, but that didn't help this album. Every dong sounded like exactly what you expect it to, hardly anything stuck out, and when it did, it was because it was just notable how much worse the song was compared to the original. I just don't get it. Sucks, because 1974 was doing pretty good as a year so far, but this just felt like a compilation of songs you'd hear on the classic rock radio and forget as soon as they stopped playing. Not impressive at all, and doesn't really make me feel like "well at least his music is good".

a flacid album with no bottom

Isäpuolen vanha opetus pitänee paikkansa, Clapton oli hyvä ennen kuin alkoi laulamaan. Kaikki siedettävätkin biisit on vain heikkoja covereita.

The biggest problem with this record is Clapton’s voice. It’s thin and reedy, and generally weak. The 2nd biggest problem is it’s aged horribly. Several of the filler 12 bar blues tracks sound like exercises for children first learning to play guitar. It’s dull and dated. And Clapton’s supposed to be a guitar guy, but he doesn’t do anything interesting on guitar either. Plus the best song is a cover of a song that had JUST come out, and the original is way better anyway.

A snoozefest of an album.

Felt a little better than lame

Surprisingly hated it

Langweilig.

I missed Darkdancer and now this is what we get for the weekend? Gah. 🚽

I really don’t get the hype with Clapton outside of his stuff with Cream.

Didn't finish, didn't like the style

It sucked.
