Reviews (page 8 of 14)
4,5 really spacey, just as consistent
Good study music. Nice vibes
mello.
This list just doesn't miss with the 90s electronic albums, eh Nolan? This shit is smooth like butter on the bread and jam on the toast
Good
Very soft and easy listening. The name of the artist captures the feel of the music. Easy to get lost in.
Pretty good, didn't care for most of the tracks with lyrics/singing. Saw inspiration from the first track on I will possess your heart by death cab
I remember owning this album on CD and relisting to it, it still holds up. Let's face it, Air had so much influence in the downtempo genre and this is just an iconic album. Sure, I originally bought this album because Sexy Boy was in the 10 Things I Hate About You movie, but it did become a key album to help me expand out of my CCM childhood and my main focus towards alternative rock/metal.
Why did I like this?
Cool downtempo space pop electronica. Sets a nice chill vibe. Standout is "La femme d'argent".
Good background music. The cover art looks cool too. 3.5, and I like rounding up :)
Starts out nice and funky and transitions to smooth and jazzy. I quite enjoyed it. Can be very Daft Punkesque.
Very nice album cover, love the watercolour ink drawings so much, they're so lively! Ooh yes enjoyed this album very much! 90s/00s electronic ambience very gorgeous. Sexy boy is obviously a bit of a banger but All I Need was my favourite and it's gone on my playlist for top tracks for me this year.
Good stuff, like it. I don't know why but Sexy Boy gives me a vivid memory of being in Fopp in Leamington with my Dad. No idea why, it must have just be playing one time and for some reason that memory stuck with me. Isn't the universe weird. FOUR STARS
Seeing this played in full live over the summer, looking forward to it. Sexy Boy and Kelly Watch the Stars are bangers, rest is good
Good jazzy trip-hop/electronica. Vocals reminiscent of Daft Punk.
Very good album!
A lot of instrumental music, was quite fun.
Chill-out. Agradable. Venga, un 4.
Read as background music when working or chilling with friends
great
This album exceeded my expectations. I loved the atmosphere created by all the songs. The sound design for the synths felt a little behind the curve; Depeche Mode sounded more advanced 20 years prior. But so many of these songs were really pretty and just fun to listen to!
This one is hard, because I've listened to it so much in my life, and especially in a very important and extreme period, and there's just no extricating from that. I'm not even going to try. The first song La Femme D Argent, well, if every song were as strong as this one, this would be an easy five. Just a fantastic, chill, composition with one of the best basslines out there. Unfortunately some of the other songs feature soul-lite singer, who, while not bad, nudge this one out of the realms of perfection. Still, one of the most important albums of my life.
Interesting sounds, but also good background music. Would probably be a 5 if I liked this genre more.
very chill, I dig it
One of my favorite albums at the time. It's mellow French synthpop with dreamy landscapes.
This album has a bit of an interesting lo-fi vibe to it. It's a bit quirky, and I like that. Somehow it also sounds older than it is, which you don't see too often. 'Sexy Boy' is such a cool track, and the ones with Beth Hirsch are also especially good. I also like 'Ce martin-lá - From "L'uomo in più"'. Not all songs are great, but it keeps a quite high bar still, so this will have to be a weak 4.
A breath of fresh air (hehe)! I had completely forgotten about this album. A childhoods friend's dad had this on CD and tried, unsuccessfully, to tell us how good it was when we were kids. I've returned to the album every once in a while but it must have been 10+ years since i listened to it last. I feel every time i listen to it and the older I get the better this is. It has a laid back jazzy groove, like if someone took Massive Attack or Daft Punk and told them to chill. I actually prefer the instrumental tracks over the ones with vocals with "La femme d'argent and "Talisman" being personal favourites. It looses the last star as I think I need to be in a special mood to enjoy it and a few of the tracks are not that interesting.
Ohhh, what a great album! This is why I'm doing this project. The music reminds me of Daft Punkt, albeit a bit more on the mellow side. This album contains great tracks in abundance it just loses a little bit of steam in the second half. Never mind, this is easily 4/5.
I enjoyed this a decent amount it got my mum nostalgic so I’ll give it 4 stars for her sake
It's still sexy and fun and great party background music. I don't think I'd put it on to LISTEN to per se, but it's wonderfully done for what it is.
A bit of a grower, but still feels right. A huge relief to hear an actually decent electronic album after several swings and misses.
At first I thought this was nothing more than upscale elevator music, something they would play at the Ritz Carlton. Maybe the music they play when you’re on hold with American Express while they search up fraudulent charge claims on your platinum card. But then it evolved into something special. Maybe it just fit my mood for the day perfectly, but I felt a wave of calmness wash over me while listening. The type of calm where you’re floating in the clouds on a plane, looking down at all the tiny people and buildings below you. One where you realize how insignificant you are, but feel bigger than everything in that same instance. You close your eyes and feel content with your life, thankful for everything you’ve been through and all that you’ve accomplished.
Atmospheric, beautiful, unforgettable
Really cool sounds, it sounds like early Daft Punk or something but better
Something magical about Air. Deserves all the stars for Sexy Boy which is near to a perfect track. Everything sounds fresh and I was glad to give this a new listen 20.
Sta chido
I've heard this before but it's been a minute and I'm not going back to it but I like Air well enough so 4 stars it is
Well Sexy Boy is a tune. The rest of the album holds up as well. A unique sound; almost trance-like electronica with catchy lyrical hooks - it's presence on the list makes sense. I'm likely to return to this at some point. Highlight has got to be Sexy Boy lol.
i liked it overall, good electronica sounds, sexy boy was a great song that i knew beforehand and totally forgot about
This was good. Nostalgic. I likey.
Good listen
Did these guys walk so that Daft Punk could run?
I don’t think I’ve come across Air before. Apple Music says they are dance music which has me intrigued. Some if the song titles are in French so I’m assuming they’re from France. Let’s listen and find out how the music sounds! Songs I already knew: none Favourites: Sexy Boy, Ce Matin-là This was an album where I didn’t want it to finish. It was such a nice sound, somewhere between dance and smooth soul music. The whole album is around 45 minutes, which is a very typical length, but the time seemed to fly by. I’m really glad to have found this album, and will definitely be giving it more time over the coming days.
Excellent album
Rating: 7/10 Best songs: You make it easy
These guys keep showing up on various playlist compilations for years. Never sat and listened to the album through. Glad I did.
I knew I would love this album as soon as I saw the Mike Mills artwork on the cover. From that I was expecting something like Bosanova Beastie Boys or a Funkier Air, not the dreamlike french pop/soundscapes. Probably my least favourite song is Sexy Boy which in retrospect is tacky and doesn't gel with the rest of the songs on the album
LMAOOO i just bought this on cd jaaaaaam
Starts strong 2nd and 3rd tracks recognisable and excellent. Rest of album best for chilled out. I will probably listen to it again
Two electronic albums in a row which is a bit out of my comfort zone. I tend to be overly critical I think so going to try not to do that today. Not sure what exactly it is that I like about this album, but I do like it a lot. It’s a downtempo electronic album with a pretty slow pace, which is a little more my speed generally. This type of music can get repetitive sounding sometimes, but this album was able to keep things interesting throughout. My only real negative is a few of the songs had lyrics in a strange autotuned male voice that was a little annoying to me. Otherwise really enjoyed it though, would listen again. Favorite song: La femme d’argent Other: Sexy Boy, All I Need, Talisman, Ce matin-là, Le voyage de Pènèlope
Almost a 5
An eminently listenable album.
Fun half electronic music, had heard one of these before
Swim trunks - yes Shades - yes Suncream - yes Beach towel - yes Flip flops - yes Beer money - yes Ear buds - yes Chill out vibes - yes Air Moon Safari I'm all good!! Point me in the direction of a sun lounger!! I'm off to soak sun and chill out to this album... priceless !!!
One of the top ambient / chillout albums from a group that have released some absolutely brilliant tracks over the years. This album is perfect for so many scenarios, but mostly sitting in the sun with a drink in hand!
A perfect soundtrack for a drive up to New Hampshire.
love the local on the 8s
Background music that turned out to be a surprisingly good listen for me. A little out there at times but that's never a true negative for me. Probably a 3.5 here but I'm feeling generous today and will round up. Some album is going to take the hit for that as I regress to the mean on my ratings. Oh well, so it goes.
There’s a general air of detachment to a lot of Air’s work that often alienates me. That’s not the case here on their first album. It succeeds (in my mind) precisely because it’s warm and inviting, not cold and sterile like their later work.
Pretty solid electronic album. While nothing really stood out, there wasn't a bad track on here. 4/5.
Can't Watch the Stars was stellar
Cool vibes. Semi psychedelic chill sound
Really nice
Retro-futuristic. Reminds me of what people in the 50s thought music the music of interstellar travel would be. I like it, it's relaxing but commands enough attention to not become background music. Favorite tracks: "La femme d'argent", "Remember", "New Star In The Sky"
Space lounge music
Great album, have only heard one song previously in a movie but definitely worth the listen
Nice. The Film score comparisons ring true. It’s complex and evocative music that creates a mood, I guess. I could have died before hearing it though, and my life wouldn’t have amounted to less.
Loved it. La femme d'argent feels warm & fuzzy & nintendo-y, Sexy Boy is very Ween-esque
New star in the sky".
Reading the album title I was pleasantly surpised and expecting lyrics about big game hunting on the moon. I was imagining large prey running through moon dust and jumping across large craters trying to escape an Apollo rocket containing the two artists holding a net for catching butterflies. After finishing the album I’m a bit disappointed. The lyrical content is not what I expected. The album only contains a few songs about astronomy. Though I like the lyrics of Sexy Boy and wouldn’t be surpised if these are written with my humble person in mind. The music on the record is mellow, but entertaining electronica. All in all it’s one small pleasure for this man, but a great addition to the 1001 list.
Cool
Pretty nice beats.I’m not really a chill out kinda guy but I can see why people like this.
Retrofictionism justifies the moon reference. I doubt there's a bad time to put this music on, drift out for a time, voices coming to prompt a smile but ultimately leaving other sound preeminent.
associated with timati chalamet only(sorry not sorry) or with james bond ahahahhahahahhahh
This album is completely ahead of its time. Absolutely solid production, and ear worm tracks great for testing out a new pair of headphones. The opener, La femme d'argent, brings you right in with a ripping bass line and catchy hook. Throughout the album, you get complete Daft Punk vibes. Must've been that 90s French music scene air everyone was breathing. Some tracks like Remember feel a little too B-side, but overall, I'd throw on this record after a long day at work to just mellow out to when I'm not quite up for Daft Punk or Justice energy.
Languid lunar lounge tracks, soundtracking your electronic expedition across the stars.
Classic. Nice album to return to every once in a while
Ovaj album je odličan za ljetno razdoblje.
This is chill-hop before anyone conceived of iPods. This is 20+ years ahead of its time. This is a really cool find in 2023 from the dark ages of 1998. 4.5/5!
Chill and funky. Would absolutely add to my rotation of things to listen to while I’m working.
Good sample-worthy music, can draw parallel with Daft punk's softer stuff
Enjoyable, elements of band I enjoy
Great album for studying, concentration and as background music, well crafted with gorgeous melodies and sound. 8,5/10
Really really really really groovy. Like 4 stars groovy.
This was interesting!
That was great, I remember listening to Air probably like 10 years ago, and this reminded me how much I like it. It was giving me Royksopp vibes.
I listed to this album a bunch in college. Still really enjoy it! Mix of down-tempo Detective Barbie-esque tracks and a few absolute bangers. The songs with the female vocalist are pretty forgettable though.
I liked it, but it was too hectic, I think the songs were not in the same tune as what I was doing at the moment. I will listen to it again, another time.
first listen sounds like the entire Oceans trilogy soundtracks
Love this album. My uncle gave me a burnt copy of this CD for my birthday when I was like 10/11 (2004/5). It complements the Mylo album. Nice break from 70s rock.
Electrónica
8/10. i preferred the songs without vocals, but overall this was really good.
7/10. Yo, it's got that song they play for like 20 seconds in 10 Things I Hate About You
Never getting old 3.5
Decent
very instrumental, maybe less for me because i enjoy lyrics a lot but very good nonetheless
Moon safari is a lovely piece of art. All its textures and colors are hypnotic and cautivating
An insight into French electronica and it's one of those records you'd play during those hot summer days or chill summer nights. I don't know much about electronica in general but this was a pleasant listen. FAVORITE SONGS: La femme d'argent, Sexy Boy, All I Need, Kelly Watch the Stars, Ce Matin Là, and Le Voyage De Pénélope The other songs not listed are ok or have to grow on me. Either way, it's a good album to vibe to.
I found this album early last summer it's been on repeat since.
Jazzy, vibey music with an electronic pulse. But there’s live instrumentation as often as there are electronics — there’s even an orchestra on some tracks! Only a few songs sound like a product of the 90’s. I don’t think I would have guessed the time period of lot of these songs if I didn’t already know. Highlights: “La femme d’argent,” “Sexy Boy,” “Talisman”
Nice chill laid back album. "All I Need (feat. Beth Hirsch)" sounds very Portishead-y which is cool. Moments of Fatboy Slim, Daft Punk, and even more Portishead throughout the album made me a happy listener. I really enjoyed it. It's super laid back and one of the easier albums on this list to put on and flat out enjoy.
Gallic cool.
How many bands/acts are more appropriately named than "Air" is? The name fits them to a T - the music is airy and light and non-threatening (mostly) instrumental music that still has a tiny slice of mysterious progression to it. And it all does sound so French :D The biggest negative for me is that I don't like the vocal songs much; they almost detract from the vibe which one can easily lose themselves in. This is the kind of mood and sound I like from downbeat electronic music. There's a sameness to a lot of it to be sure but I feel like I can play Air in almost any setting or mood. Feeling like I may not put this on as much as most 4s but it still feels worthy. 7/10 4 stars.
This stuff doesn't usually float my boat. These guys always managed to find a way to keep me engaged in it. Thoroughly enjoyable.
I enjoyed this more than I expected. All of the arrangements are top notch, and the songs are in fact, calming to listen to. The highlights for me are the songs featuring Beth Hirsch, and the horn section in the song, “Ce matin-là”. Four stars
Timeless milestone. "Ce matin-là" is an easy listening masterpiece.
Enjoyable listen, especially La Femme d'Argent and Sexy Boy.
An eclectic dream of times gone by. liberal use of vocoder and jazzy inspired tunes that wouldn't be amiss in a 60's heist film, they ooze chill from every pore. would listen again Favourite tracks Kelly watch the stars and All I need.
Cool drums with chorus Synths Cool repetition
Some whispered vocals, airy synth washes and gently burbling bass. Some a bit slow, some with a bit more of a pulse. The whole thing is so much more than the sum of its parts and - cliche alert - it's all held together with a great sense of style.
This was right up my alley. I can't believe I've never heard of this album or Air before. I really liked the instrumentation and vocals of each song. It was really enjoyable to listen to.
This is super nice. The downtempo doesnt ever feel like heavy baggage. Its like they found a way to float by going slow.
I enjoyed this album a lot.
Superei o preconceito e agora eu posso aproveitar todas as camadas sonoras do tecno psicodélico.
Hot damn, this album. I knew I had heard Air before but I could not have described their sound before hearing this album. Turns out, I did at the very least know their radio hit from the Virgin Suicides soundtrack, but this album has a sound I immediately fell in love with. To me, it almost feels like chill hop before chill hop was a thing. Similar to Daft Punk but more jazzy, less funky and less repetitive. Nearly every song had me feeling good vibes like grooving to the Animal Crossing music while hanging out on my island. The only reason I'm not giving 5 stars is a few songs where the vocals kicked in really ruined the vibe for me. I think I would have liked it better as a pure instrumentals album even though some of the vocals are fine.
Very nice discovery. The album but also the band. Very calm and melodic songs, very enjoyable yet sometimes too slow but defintly some songs to add to a good mix. The synth is top notch and I really enjoyed the songs without vocals. Some Daft Punk electro 2000 vibe sometime that make it a touch redundant but still greatly done. Solid 4/5
Positive vibe thus far. Love the keyboard and ambience. All I need slaps a little too hard. Great work music. Talisman is epic. You make it easy is beautiful, this album is amazingly relaxing. some songs have some slight drag, but this looking like a 4. I'm finding the distinction between 3 and 4 very difficult. 3 seems to bad, but 4 seems quite high.
This was a big surprise. So musical, laidback but inviting. It's drenched with '70s feel. Then it steals that drum sound from Do It Again. Classic!
First track in the pantheon. Maybe not a 1001 as a whole album?
Very chill, smooth vibes. Kinda spacy. The kind of thing you can turn on and do your shit.
T3B 1. La femme d’argent 2. Sexy Boy 3. Le voyage de Penelope
I have not had the best luck with electronica albums on here, so this was a much needed change of pace. The songs may be a little longer than they really need to be sometimes, but at least they're not consistently seven minutes long like other 90's electronica. The songs are enjoyable and they sound interesting, progressing just enough to keep my interest throughout the song. My favourite songs were Sexy Boy and You Make it Easy.
Know this very well. It is a big warm bath of unchallenging melodic electronica. Perfect for a summer evening. Yeah it's a bit too nice and feature on hundreds of chill out compilations but is very lovely. 4
fr*nce is L but the vibes are immaculate. makes me want to run around a sunny field with the love of my life
I swear to god this was playing over the airport intercom last month. Good shit!
Ah, always a breath of fresh air these two. One of my favorite duo's, great album.
miss having it
A couple of French lads like what Daft Punk are doing but decide to make an album for the after party. Slinky basslines, bubbling synths - everything you'd expect. Best Tracks: La femme d'argent; Sexy Boy; Kelly Watch The Stars
I've heard about this album many times and when I got this I got very excited, I think this is a low 4/5, but I still like it a lot, it can just be a bit boring at some points.
Wow - that's a strong first four tracks! Especially Sexy Boy and All I Need. After that excellent intro, it is some very pleasant, cinematic, 70s sounding French Prog - some very Serge Gainsbourg orchestration. But I already have Serge in my life, so after side 1 it's a little redundant, if still very listenable.
HL: Ce matin-là, Sexy Boy, Le voyage de Pénélope It’s really good! The retro, 70’s-esque mix of analogs & organic instruments were a welcome salve to a stressful day.
Nice
Weird but good!
Really dug this, an excellent departure. The title is perfect, it does feel like a minor space exploration. This sounds like, if space travel was commercialized in the '70s, the kind of music you'd hear on a commercial flight to the moon. Me likey. Favorite tracks: La Femme d'argent, Kelly Watch the Stars, Remember, Ce Matin-la. Album art: Absolutely love it, perfectly fits the aesthetic of the music. Feels like '60s-'70s retrofuturism. I'm still surprised this is a late '90s album. 4/5
I remembered this album to be a bit boring besides "all I need". Must say I quite liked listening to it again after quite some time. Not an album I'll play regularly, but certainly wouldn't mind listening again.
I didn't finish the album but from what I did hear I can absolutely tell why this is a classic of electronic music, will definitely finish it over the weekend.
Historic. Fantastic beats
I makes me feel like daft punk is trying to put me to sleep but like in a good way
This was like stepping into a time machine. I loved this album in 1998 and I love it now. Unfortunately I don’t really do hallucinogens anymore so it didn’t quite fuck as hard. Sexy boy will forever be one of my favs!!!
Back the. i thought this was music for dummies and electrojerks. Now I can really hear it. Sweet!
Great.
This album was really cool! I actually really enjoy this kind of music, it sounds like something I would make. "Sexy Boy" is now in my daily mix. This album was really easy to listen to and was satisfying. 4/5 not because it stood out, but because it was an easy listen and also cool sounds.
I was never into Electronic music—but this album is really good. Reminds me of some of the instrumental works of Pink Floyd (similar to their Transitional period and Gilmour period) Overall loved the space-age theme.
pretty cool slow paced edm album with some added instrumental for more depth
Smooth as
chill music. Loved it.
Súper interesante. Un trip hop bastante electrónico. Entre daft punk y massive attack. Algunas canciones con líricas femeninas. Otras más ambient.
I’ve seen and herd of the group before but to say I’ve listened to their stuff before is a stretch… The album opens with la femme d’argent it’s got a great groove to it and for a 7 minute long instrumental this is very good and actually kept me interested for most of the time. Next is the album’s lead single sexy boy it’s a solid song with a great groove and the french singing works as a little break ( and it’s much better than doing a Daft Punk and repeating the same word 100 and something times) but I can’t say that this song is my kinda thing though. All I need seems to be the most popular song on spotify and well it makes sense that it is as it’s really nice sounding just calm. You know how I said that air weren’t doing the daft punk thing of repeating the same line over and over again well I lied Kelly watch the stars is exactly that daft punk thing of repeating the same line over and over again ( but at least it’s still instrumentally pleasing). Tailsman starts as a depressing little instrumental piece then more layers get added making it actually a really interesting bit of music. Remember is certainly a unique thing indeed and I don’t hate it but I could easily go without hearing this again. You make it easy is a great tune I actually prefer it as a song than All I need and I think it could’ve been more successful than that song id it were released. Ce matin là is a nice call instrumental providing a cool little mid side two break but I must admit it’s the worst instrumental on here. The penultimate track a new star in the sky is a very good song but it does take a little while for the vocals to come in and the song to really get going! The album closes with La voyage de Penelope it’s a nice fitting instrumental that works really well next to new star in the sky. Overall this has to be the best electronic album I’ve ever herd. It’s still only a high 4/5 though because Kelly watch the stars wasn’t a good sonic and without the album content I will never hear the instrumental track again.
Right when big beat was the thing in France and the UK with acts like The Prodigy, The Chemical Brothers and of course Daft Punk with their electro-disco, Air offered a more mellow version of electronic music, more in line with Portishead or Massive Attack without the darkness. It's great, the first half is arguably flawless and even if it gets kind of blurry near the end, it remains enjoyable all the way through. I know this one's their classic, but I personally prefer their Virgin Suicides score and particularly their Premiers Symptômes debut, which remains my favorite.
Great great vibes coming from this
It goes in a lot of direction while being a great coherent blend.
An album where the tones of all the instruments are perfect, especially the bass. The atmospheres are wonderful. A beautiful offering from Air, music you can easily get joyfully lost in it.
3.8 - a solid, melodic and atmospheric journey that starts stronger than it finishes, but is still excellent throughout. Modern music that still evokes the past. A great example of electronic music made better by restraint.
Favorites: Kelly Watch the Stars - I have heard this one before although I do not know where. I can tell Air has influenced one of my favorite synthwave groups, FM Attack, because of their use of vocoder. You make it easy. Love the lounge vibe and orchestral instrumentation. Ce Matin Là - sounds like a throwback to 50s/60s film score. Turns out it was featured in a French Film. Dislike the talk box on Sexy Boy.
Super nice vibes, excellent background music. Will definitely revisit!
Very good
Very strong Radiohead vibes
Chill-out. Agradable. Venga, un 4.
Les garçons sexy.
I read the reviews on this site before listening and found a lot of comparisons to Daft Punk. I can see where this is coming from, they're both French duos who work with electronic music, but I wouldn't call it fair to compare as they're pretty different outside of those two broad categories. Daft Punk is a bit of party, disco and funk, while this is more chill and lowkey. I don't know if it reflects Air's discography but I like what I've heard so far. I don't think there are stand out tracks here but all of them are solid at least. Good listen.
7/10 very nice B)
Very chill, I like it
Didn't listen but I am intimately familiar with this, having been at university at the end of the 20th century and the start of the 21st. Beautiful, esoterically weird and just the right thing for the right time but never wrong no matter when it comes on.
My reaction to this is a testament to my own prejudices. I enjoyed this greatly, and it's definitely going into rotation for repeated listens, study music, etc. And yet I have some kind of bias against taking it seriously as art. What's up with that? It is not immediately "challenging" or "riveting," but I don't think it's trying to be and it doesn't have to be. In 1998 it must have been way ahead of its peers and for the trails it's blazed for Royksopp, Tycho, etc I am thoroughly grateful.
I loved this album. I only have listened \"Sexy Boy\". I think is fine and elegant, game changer for the time it was released. On the cons side, the last couple of songs resulted monotone to me.
Coffee table classic. Nearly all the tracks are radio hits or well known from bars, restaurants, clothes shops, TV programs, dinner parties. Very good melodies and fairly stripped back, but clever music that could have been set in 70s, 80s or 90s and now pretty much timeless. Almost prog (Floyd, Kraftwerk). Excellent.
I am surprised with how much I am enjoying this album so far. Normally I'm not a huge electronic music guy, but I'm digging what I am hearing. Some of the songs in the latter half aren't as interesting to me.
Brilliant album.
My favorite of their albums.
p836. 1998. 4 stars The bastard love children of Jean-Michel Jarre and Vangelis. Accessible electronic mood music for the masses. It's good, but does outstay its welcome on the longer tracks.
Superb album for the morning of the night that went before it! Chill and thrill.
This is great. I'd heard La Femme d'Argent lots before but never knew what it was called. A few other tracks on this I recognized too. Very vibey and memorable
Not usually a fan of electronic music, but man did this hit all the right notes for me. Made me feel like I was floating in space a lot of the time, and the vocals sprinkled here and there did much to break up any monotony there could have been.
Brilliant from start to finish.
ok this is a vibe ! / my rating 3.5/5 belongs on this list 4/5
Beautiful, funky pop music. Sounded like the old trip hop tunes I listened to in college.
Wat een heerlijke muziek voor een zondagochtend. Echt een eye-opener
Heerlijk slaapverwekkend, chill album. Ook nog eens jeugdsentiment.
I could swear that we'd done this one already, but maybe it was just me listening to the album on my own that I'm remembering... That pretty much tells you how I feel about Air right there. I love getting lost in their lush soundscapes. They have this vaguely nostalgic retro vibe to them, and yet the way it is all layered together so smoothly and cleanly, using more modern production techniques, it ends up sounding somewhat outside of time. This album and "Premiers Symptomes" are my favorites. Nothing else ever seemed to quite match the seductive qualities of this early material. They went on in subsequent albums to get a bit goofier in a way that sort of breaks the spell for me. But this early stuff man, I think it might possibly be the best make-out music in existence.
Air are a viiiiibe. I've only listened to their "Talkie Walkie" album so this was fun. What a debut. A mix of downtempo lounge and fun slow dance music. Makes me feel like a fancy lad.
Really good album, wasn’t expecting to like this as much as I did!
nice chilled vibe, enjoyed it
This whole record is on my Asleep On The Plane playlist that I listened to when I was traveling almost weekly. It’s a favorite. I discovered it when I saw the video for Sexy Boy somewhere. It’s worth seeking.
Low-key grooves, fresh, modern easy listening. Highlights include Sexy Boy, Kelly Watch the Stars, Talisman, New Star in the Sky.
Moon Safari is the second album recommended to me from Air. I'm not sure how to assess how much I liked this album. There were portions of the album that reminded me of ELO or some of the popular music from the 70s. Some of my least favorite tracks were the tracks with female guest vocalists. All of the tracks seemed at least okay. I added "La femme d'argent" (my favorite track) and "Talisman" to my personal playlist for a re-listen. I would be open to listenting to more from Air. I don't think that there are any tracks that I would skip, so I'll do a bit of rounding up to a full 4 stars.
Didn't expect to like this so much but it was really good. I was familiar with a couple of the songs without being aware of it. Guessing they made the rounds in popular culture somewhere or other. The quality fell off a little bit in the second half but this was a 5-star effort for the first half.
Well this was surprisingly fantastic and thoroughly enjoyable!
This was an unexpected surprise. Really great!
It slaps
Eld
Smooth like butter
Epic FTW!
File under the spacey tunes they play at boutique hotel pools. Bumped up during my lunch time walk around the office and it took me away which adds bonus star
I was surprised to hear Remember, which may be my only familiarity with the group. Kinda dreamy overall.
Surprisingly, a very solid electronic album. With the atrocities in the genre included in this list, this album is among a very few that focuses more on writing songs and compositions rather than beats. The album has a great runtime, solid production, a few clear singles, melody, dynamics and differing rhythms. Respect to Air!
French House meets Stereolab in the best way possible. An expansive, encompassing LP that could come off as cheesy but reads as genuine due to its wonderful instrumentation and vocal performances.
Great album
like the indie 90s version of vaporwave. smooooth
I like it quite a bit.
Great album with plenty of whimsical, psychedelic grooves. Modern retro. "Remember" is my standout song.
Actually dig it - pretty relaxing
Reminds me a lot of Zero 7 Simpler Things... the chillout electronic vibe is great. La Femme d'argent is incredible, and songs like Sexy Boy, Kelly Watch the Stars and Talisman find their vibe. Very enjoyable.
Gave me flashbacks to my 20s when I lived in DC. Feels like a Friday night at a lounge or friend’s party. I forgot how much I loved this album. Sets you up for just a real chill, mellow evening.
Ah, the sound of 1998 sophistication, familiar from every coffee shop, dinner party and dorm room that wanted to class itself up a bit. I think I prefer the Beth Hirsch vocal tracks to anything else on here. "Le soleil est près de moi" from the Premiers Symptômes EP really should have been included too. 4 stars for nostalgia.
Erityisesti hittibiisit (La Femme Argent, Sexy Boy, Kelly Watch the Stars) tuntuivat vähän väsähtäneiltä. Eniten juuri nyt miellyttivätkin levyn loppupään kappaleet You Make It Easy, Ce Matin-La ja New Star in the Sky. Vanhoilla meriiteillä tämä olisi ollut selvä nelonen. Nyt keikutaan kolmosen ja nelosen välimaastossa. Muihin kolmosen levyihini vertaamalla arvosana pyöristyy ylöspäin.
I was never super bother about this when it came out, because of the simple, repetitive vocal hooks. But relistening now I’d discounted a lot of really nice production. I recognised a lot more of the instrumentals than I would have expected.
You can hear the roots of Beach House and Tame Impala in this
4/5 Nice different genre of music
A lot of songs that you've heard earlier, but you cannot name them.
This stood a head above the typical electronica fare from this list so far for me. I really dig the chill, atmospheric mood and vocals.
Sleepy music. Bianca knew femme d’argent lol and I liked it too
Melodic electronic music with mix of vocals. Enjoyed the easy listen.
Amazing airport music, sexy boy is a biiiig tune
La femme d’argent is one of the coolest songs of all time
Chilled me right out
Should buy this too
That was a cool album and a good time
It’s good. It’s not terribly unique or groundbreaking though. Having said that, I do enjoy French electronica. It’s was a good listen
This was a nice discovery. A nice set of songs to just relax and let play in the background.
The tracks exude Pink Floyd's psychedelic majesty, jazz's subdued ambience, random quotations from the history of soul, funk and disco music, and more than a passing mention of Burt Bacharach's and Ennio Morricone's scores. (7/10) Favourite Tracks: All I need
I really like their music now because of this and Virgin Suicides soundtrack. Great album
Air produced something close to pure bliss with this record, creating a set of songs completely apt for the name of the album. "La femme d'argent" shoots for the moon and dances its way to the surface in a hazy paradise. I could listen to that bassline groove for the whole album, but after what feels like no time at all we're hit with "Sexy Boy"'s distorted synth-bass, the beat crashes in and we hear possibly the most seductive vocal ever delivered through a Leslie speaker. The rest of the album floats delicately between lush ballads, danceable psych-rock, and blatantly ELO-reminiscent strings and vocoder (looking at you "Remember"). All the lyrics are fairly immaterial, forming part of the landscape more than anything to live by or get tattooed on your arm. But that's not an issue here- the beauty of this album brought it close to a 5* listen, showcasing everything a band like Pink Floyd could have been doing in the 90s if they hadn't become plodding, middle-aged Radio 2 kissers. This is a 9/10 for sure- rounding down because I didn't think it finished as well as it started.
I liked this. If was kind of like jazz, but not like jazz. Most of the songs were good.
Sexy album
Tenía mucho sin escucharlo-- siempre deja buena vibra.
Pretty nice
Second album by this group to show up on my list. I like this one a little better. Nice to listen to today while I worked. I found myself chuckling a bit because the opening bars of the first cut, "La femme d'argent," sound somewhat similar to the Grateful Dead's "Scarlet Begonias." [[Eventually, one way or another, everything connects :-) ]]
Very good
Classic. This zips me straight back to the end of Sixth Form and early Uni. Brilliant album, which has stood the test of time.
Cool chill album. Started very stringy, ended a little weak.
Super chill, really enjoyable album
Never heard this before. From the opening bass line of LA femme d'argent I knew this was a sound tailor made for me. Gorgeous melodies, dancey rhythms and that bass, just lovely. It slows a bit in the middle section that keeps it from a 5 for me, but a strong 4 🌟
Nice album for dinner time, chilling
Nice dreamy blend of electronica and genuine musicianship.
Pretty chill - liked the vibe, esp for late 1990s
Very airy and some great background details that compliments the main beat extremely well 7/10
Surprisingly, I really liked this. French space music
Early Gorillaz vibes! Good mix of chill electronic sounds, not monotonous
Very pleasant, great background music.
Very enjoyable
funky beats
I'd have really enjoyed this when I was in high school, I think. I believe I heard the 2nd track back in those days, but the 1st track is the real gem.
Love All I need
everywhere in 1999 - great first album, pretty overplayed though
4stars bc of the multi media use. Electronic album with every instrument imaginable. Not a GREAT breakbeat/trip hop album, but good and entertaining.
Fantastic.
Phenomenal debut. I fucking love Air.
Lost my album notes but I thought the album name was very fitting. Great stuff.
This was really good. Recognised at least 3 songs. And the others were good too.
This is Groove Salad. So many songs I recognize. Great downtempo stuff.
Lovely jubbly
First 3 song OK, rest was a bit boring.
4.4 + I’ve loved this album ever since I first l heard it at a Newbury Comics listening station. There’s a breathy, shimmery quality that pervades the entire record — appropriately, it makes me imagine floating in space.
Throwback to twenty years ago when every coffee shop, hair salon and Club Monaco would just rotate between this album and St. Germain Tourist. Love this album though.
Good calm trip-hop / electronica. Like their earlier album from this list (the soundtrack to The Virgin Suicides), this is great atmospheric music to put on and vibe out to.
Nice
Makes me wanna do druggggssss
Suuuuuuper relaxing. Fallen asleep to this many times.
This one was interesting and great background mood music.
Pretty good, eclectic album. Weird that the only song from it I know was a pop hit
Pretty chill. I really enjoyed listening to it while I was at work.
Vibey
Lovely stuff. Some tracks a minute too long tho.
Not something ID normally listen to, but fun.
La femme d'argent, ce matin-la, all I need
On the fence on how to rate this one; not my favourite Air album (behind "Talkie Walkie") but for a laid-back downtempo album it's very well executed. Will err on the side of rewarding it for the space it occupies.
Progressive, but not a rock. Not bad at all to work by.
I'm usually not a big fan of electronic music, but this album is just great. I know the bar isn't very high but it's probably my favourite of its genre.
p good, very "film soundtrack" vibes -C
Very fun ambient exotica, immaculately produced and with great tunes. A warm bath of an album.
Enjoyed that. Basically a collection of every big-budget advert's soundtrack over the last 10 years, but it was a really good listen. One I'd never heard of that I'll definitely re-visit.
This was refrashing :)
I really liked this. Very relaxing. Some songs remind of of Hyperstory. Dig this one. A clean 4 stars
Favourite Track: You make it easy
Department store music that is good.
Loved it. First half was much stronger
trevliga bitar, känns old school elektroniskt. både stråkar o blås vilket höjer autensitetsnivån.
I liked the instrumental tracks best. Sexy Boy was a bit too repetitive for my taste.
Moon Safari was the exact calm I needed when I gave it a listen. Air gives me the vibes of one of my favorite bands, TWRP, and I felt like I was floating in space when I listened to the album. A very positive vibe.
Trevligt
Good album with relatable lyrics like "Sexy Boy"
Great chill music when you lay in bed
3.5
It has a very fun relaxing and unique attitude but I can think of quite a few EDM or adjacent acts that I would just rather be listening to. But I at least expect to put this on again from time to time.
Ohhh this one is great!
