Reviews (page 13 of 14)
Disappointing, most songs were not pleasant to listen to and the lyrics didn't make up for it.
Not bad but definitely much prefer Stop Making Sense. My goodness his voice is insufferable on Happy Day, haha. Really liked the bass and beat of No Compassion. "They say compassion is a virtue, but I don't have the time." LOVE that. Psycho Killer a treat of course. Quite liked Pulled Up.
This is a one star album until Psycho Killer lifts it up to 2 stars or D+.

You hear the greatness, but it doesn't do anything for me.
The production is fun. Listening to David Byrne is kind of like listening to a super enthused Saturday morning cartoons character. It's good in small doses, but I don't think I'd want to sit through this album on a regular basis. A bit rough around the edges for a debut. Some bangers on here. It would be a better instrumental album.
I only just had a Talking Heads album a few days ago... Still shite 2 ⭐️
man, i thought i’d like this, but it didn’t do anything for me. the whole album felt like filler songs if that makes sense. i did like the popular one, “psycho killer”, though. this definitely made me want to check out some of their other stuff though. i have a feeling they have better albums
This one kind of passed me by. I listened through the whole album, but nothing really grabbed me apart from Psycho Killer, which is undoubtedly a great song. I was a bit surprised by how underwhelmed I felt overall, as I went in expecting one of those albums where you know the big single, and then the rest turns out to be just as good. I’ve also enjoyed other work by David Byrne, which made it even more surprising that this didn’t resonate with me. Perhaps it’s one of those cases where the band was still finding their footing, or maybe it’s just not my taste. Standout Song: Psycho Killer (Fa-fa-fa-fa, fa-fa-fa-fa-fa-fa) Score: 2/5 (Fa-fa-fa-fa, fa-fa-fa-fa-fa-fa)
other than Psycho Killer, nothing stood out on this album for me. Sounded like bog standard late-70s new wave. I couldn't hear what the fuss was about
Psycho Killer + a bunch of very skippable songs.
Not as good as I expected. I enjoy talking head hits, and had planned to listen to them more, but this somewhat disappointed
Fun, but can’t really listen to this all the way thru
Everything that David Byrne produces somehow misses me. I know he's like some brilliant thought leader and 1001 keeps trying to get me to like his music, but I just don't and can't.
Four TH albums on this list and apparently they were very influential for a bunch of bands I like....but I just can't get into them. The best thing I can say about them is that the songs aren't slow and boring. So at least they have that going for them.
En tykännyt laulajan äänestä, en tykännyt sanoista, joten ei kovin nautinnollinen kuuntelu. Jotkut kappaleet ihan ok, mutta se nyt ei kauheasti heilauta.
The second album I got in a row with bad singing and mediocre music. This album is pretty bad and I'm a little shocked by the amount of people that like it.
That's some...unique vibrato... 2/5
I already know and love "Psycho Killer" but didn't find much else I really liked even near to that level on this album. There were a few other bright spots that might grow on me maybe. I think though overall this is not really my thing genre wise, and this album isn't doing much to change that for me.
Unfortunately, this exercise has made me realize I'm only a fan of Talking Heads hits. Maybe this would inch up in my estimation with repeated listenings, but felt quirky in a way that wasn't really enjoyable. Except for Psycho Killer.
blöd.
Not as averse to Talking Heads as I used to be but this still started to wear on me. Not a fan
Nice in places
its a lot better than their third album, at least i can tell someone is having fun YNN

An intereresting album in many ways. I understand why I have only heard one of their songs before since they have a different sound through out the album. Not my kind of music and not something I will listen to again.
Found a couple songs just annoying. Maybe I was just not in the mood, but not a fan.
Couldn’t really get into this one. Most songs just grated after a while
Definitely not my favorite music
I guess I don't like the Talking Heads
2,4
The Talking Heads belong to a time I was never a part of. Honestly the whole thing feels dated and simple
A decent listen but to be honest they have much better
First listen Saved 4/11 Top track: Psycho Killer
got bored of it real quick
Meh.
Not for me! I respect the bands love for buildings and the importance of friendship though.
Yeah... this album isn't for me...
This was more annoying than the other Talking Heads album thats on this list.
I know I should like Talking Heads and in many ways I do. I like Stop Making Sense, Speaking In Tongues, Remain in Light but not this one. There's just something unbearably whiny about his voice like he's trying to sing a little higher than he can comfortably manage.
David Byrne's singing is like a grown child having a breakdown. Lyrics are simplistic and without nuance. Ironically their big hit Psycho Killer does rhyme, but mostly they cannot be concerned with rhyming. There seems to be one rule in David's song writing...if it's good once, it's even better twice. The repetition can be distracting, especially when you realize that without it, there just isn't much material. Interestingly, if you slowed down their signature beat, it would sound a lot like reggae.
Album 1/1001 - 28/7/24 Physco Killer = iconic track 5/5 Revisit Album - no, just didn’t do it for me I’m afraid.
Musically almost funky or groovy. Of course "Psycho Killer" stands out. But even on that song the voice is just annoying! 🙉
Mannnnnn that was hard. I love talking heads and what they did for music and all the artists I love. But this was an annoying album.
Not a lover of the voice, a bit dated now. Listened with my daughter. She was not impressed
I am sure my rating here is going to be too harsh. I normally am a fan of the quirky vocals and all that, but today was just a bad day and didn't have the Patience to deal with this. For my purposes only for finding albums to re-listen to, I'm giving it a fraction of a point that I can sort by. Favorite track "Psycho Killer" 2.2/5
I listened. Still do not like the singing. at all.
Nicht so mein Ding
better than all the others before it
My favorite TH record, but that’s not saying much.
Is it okay that I just don't like the Talking Heads that much? Am I going to have my cool card revoked? David Byrne's wailing just grates on me. Sorry not sorry.
A bit repetitive by the end
first song is nice. his voice is annoying i shouldve probably paid attention to the lyrics huh,,,,,lmao. sorry. wasnt in the mood to listen to new music tbh. im forcing myself rn so.. 2
Bored, aged and doesn't age well. Not for me.
I appreciate, rather than like, Talking Heads it seems
Psycho Killer is an incredible song. But every other track on this record was pretty cringe. However, this motivated me to make more of my music and care less about the quality of it or how it might come off to others. I'd be so embarrassed to share this record if it were mine, and yet, it's a timeless classic. Go figure.
Oh man. That's way too much David Byrne in 1 dose for me.
There's a world music meets funk sort of thing going on here, coming out of the new wave-ish/punk-ish world. Some odd-ish vocal deliveries. This album is still pretty unique in 2024. I can only imagine how innovative it must have seemed in 1977. I don't really care for it too much. Psycho Killer is alright. 2/5 May 12 2024
Sounds more modern than it is, I would not have put this as a 1977 release. Music is fine, doesn't do much for me. Favourite track: No Compassion.
Slogged through the first 2/3 of the album, the last 1/3 of the album was great.
still don't get talking heads. never thought i'd give an incubus record a 5 star and talking heads almost completely 2's across the board
A lot of same same tunes, Psycho Killer the standout.
Except for psycho killer, this all went in one ear and out the next
LCD Soundsystem covering this album is Tom's dream concert
Eh
Heureusement qu'il y a psycho killer! Ils sont chiants quand ils veulent.
Onore imperituro a Byrne e ai Talking Heads, ma in quest'album emerge solo Psycho Killer.
The music itself is fine, but I just can't stand the singer. Not an album I would choose to listen to again. 2/5
I wanted to like this more.
I wanted to like it. I liked some of the music, but it was repetitive, and the singing was annoying.
I like this a little less than the other "Talking Heads" submission. I think they got better as they got out of the disco era, which influenced the percussion a lot.
Nah
not their best ..(.
Enjoyed it more than I expected - made Psychokiller make more sense than it ever did before
A bit too arty farty.
This was goofy as fuck. It felt like I was listening to a random silly album and Spotify accidentally added Psycho Killer to the queue. It’s not like Psycho Killer is an island tho, David Byrne really tried the gibberish stuff on a bunch of these songs and was like “I just know one of em’s gonna make it work”
First week was such a shit song lmao. Psycho killer has been a favorite song of mine since they sang it in IASIP. The rest of the album was really not memorable at all. Don’t worry about the government was a troll song tho.
Just not very good is it. Post-punk in general is quite awful, these ones are at least musically competent so it's not an outright assault on your hearing. Don't make it good tho. Gets an extra half a star for Psycho Killer verging on being decent.
Not my cup of tea. It's a bit better than the usual post punk new wave garbage, but it's still not doing nearly enough for me.
sehr alt
Psycho killer kyl kova
not especailly into it
El point destacado de la wikipedia es "The single "Psycho Killer" reached number 92 on the Billboard Hot 100." 93 de 100 en el 77. Top 1001 albums noseque i me posen esto. De locos. Jueguen Metroid
This wasn't spectacular, but it wasn't bad. It was like hearing a garage band in high school, just some dudes having fun playing instruments, creating little ditties and guitar licks, and making noises with their mouth. I'm happy to have heard it since I know Talking Heads are a foundational influence to some of the artists I know and love now (c.2024), but I don't really see revisiting this album again.
Liked it at first, upbeat, was in the mood for it. But got annoying after a while.
I've heard better stuff in this genre so l couldn't really care for the album (excpt psyco killer, that one is a MASTERPIESE). HOWERE l undrestand without Talking Heads and their impact some of my favorite music wouldn't have been made so i'm glad i experienced listening to Talking Heads's first album although i don't wanna experince it again. The highlights : 3.Tentative dicasions : the hook/chourse part sucks ( girs and boys blah blah blah) rest is good 10.psyco killer : YOU START A CONVERSION YOU CAN'T EVEN FINISH, YOU TALK A LOT BUT YOU'RE NOT SAYING ANYTHING , WHEN I HAVE NOTHING TO SAY??? MY LIPS ARE SEALED!!! SAY SOMETHING ONCE, WHY SAY IT AGAIN?? 10/10
Couldn’t get through it
The second TH album I've listened to, I guess they are just not for me. Couple of ok tunes but it mostly just passes me by.
Talking Heads 77 is too new wave for me. Some of the music hits a nice groove, there are decent elements of funk in there, but the vocals aren't my thing, never have been across the genre, and bring it down wholly. Just a style that's somewhere between nonchalant and whimsically ironic, no thanks. No Compassion probably the high point of an album I didn't mind listening to (First Week/Last Week also decent) just didn't enjoy. 2?
Continuing to struggle to enjoy this album
Musically the album was fine but the singer could have done with some lessons.
Heel irritante muziek
arty strange vocals
Un 4
Very funky, more than I thought Talking Heads would be. Otherwise, it was.. _too much_ Talking Heads. Very monotonous. And I'm probably the only odd duck that doesn't like Psycho Killer.
Don't Worry About the Government and Psycho Killer are pretty good. The rest of the album is bland alt rock; not as good as some of their later stuff.
I really want to like the Talking Heads. This is my second album I've received from them. With the first album I was on the fence - and with this being their (maybe?) most acclaimed album, I don't think this band is for me. I love some of their ideas, some of the goofy bits of their music I enjoy. But it gets boring/old and then borders on annoying to me. Might be mostly the vocals that get on my nerves. I'm not sure. I don't think I'm going to completely give up on them like some bands I've written off after a full album or two. But it definitely hasn't "clicked" yet and I'm sure if it ever will.
I’ve largely been an avid despise of Talking Heads, but I can’t say I’ve ever sat down and given them a shot. I’m glad I did, but I can confirm that I don’t hate them — I just can’t find anything to like. I’m sure it was good at the time, but there’s nothing here for me.
Geht so. Nicht mein Geschmack
Was different. Didn’t really take. Will have to give it more listens
This is certainly Talking Heads in 1977. They haven’t quite found their footing yet.
I personally consider that this album lacks substance, it failed to tell me anything and it was majorly an indifferent listen. Best songs to me were "Psycho Killer" and "Pull up". There are no painful features in the project either. Expected Marc rating: 3.
Vaya pal d'àlbum. Totes les cançons sonen igual
There are all the foundations of what make the talking heads great throughout the years and it’s well produced but I think there is just some magic missing. I think the weird punk influence and odd instrumentation that create the grooves are missing if I had to guess. Well produced but the songs just don’t have the same hitting quality for me as subsequent records.
Annoying and overrated. Jeez.
I should recognize some of these pieces because I was 5, but I don’t. I only recognize the sound of their voices for songs produced in the 80’s. I had no idea Talking Heads was around before I heard them on the radio. “Don’t Worry About the Government” makes me think I could write a random song. It has the feel of a fun, thoughtless, babble that you might sing around the house, putting the words of what you are currently and actively doing into a tune that will be forgotten. A piggyback song of sorts. But it made it into this album.
Probably the most 2/5 album on this list
Psycho Killer was the only song I really liked.
Whenever we get a Talking Heads album I think of the adoring way Zach from Gilmore Girls says “David Byrne is a freak”. All respect to the freaks out there making weirdo art but this just didn’t do anything for me. Not particularly fun or interesting to listen to, just odd.
Could not wait for this one to end. Only redeeming song is Psycho Killer, obviously.
W E A K
The rest of the music isn't nearly good enough to get over the voice.
The heads are talking I guess.
Not my jam.
3 talking heads albums so far, hope it’s front loaded because I’m not sure how many more albums I can handle. This album seemed a little better than Food & Buildings, but not much. It seemed like the lyrics are what I do when I don’t know the words to a song and just start making them up to sing along. I thought it was his voice that might irritate me after a while but I went back and listened to “Remain in Light” album and that wasn’t the case. There is something about these albums that I just don’t appreciate I guess. Remain in Light seems on a different level.
Thisnshit sucked
Lame, except for ‘Psycho Killer’
Psycho killer is great, but the rest of the album doesn't reach their potential of what they will become in later albums
Very basic with one redeeming song.
Not my vibe. Didn't finish.
Great guitar riffs, interesting lyrics, voice too much
just so so
Good vibes. Classic talking heads weirdness. Bit boring and background music. Enjoyed it, but didn’t capture my imagination.
The two last tracks are really nice. The rest is meh. Not my type of music.
I always think of MTV when I see/hear Talking Heads, specifically the Once In a Lifetime song. At the time, I thought it was good, but now that we have listened to a couple albums by these guys, I don't really get it. Even the "big" hit Pyscho Killer is just OK. Nothing made me excited and nothing made me want to revisit or download. Found myself getting a little annoyed at his voice too. They do have a few very good hits. Swamp is absolutely a classic, along with And She Was. Outside of those, there is nothing else I find to be a must listen. Not for me. 2
definitely not as good as the other one
Can’t stand David Byrne’s voice but the rest of the band is pretty tight. Credit them for taking the punk spirit with an arty approach without the nihilist attitude.
At some point singer's wailing seemed the one i overheard last week at the dentist. Didn't enjoy it.
Some resistance popped up as soon as I read "Talking Heads." I'm going to give this album an unbiased listen...here we go! Already grooving on the opening track, "Uh-Oh, Loves Comes to Town." The lead singer's voice isn't my favorite but let's see if it grows on me. Despite not liking the voice, these tracks are funky and have my body grooving. But grooving wasn't enough - I find the lead singer's voice very annoying, and I'm not a fan of the straightforward lyrics.
Boring
I found the quirks to be more annoying than interesting
I like a lot of bands that were influenced by them, but I don't like the Talking Heads themselves as much. Singing is annoying. Songs are too monotonous. Not terrible, but it doesn't stick. Favorite song: who is it
I don't get talking heads, really doesn't do anything for me. It's not like it's terrible, but just doesn't grab me. Too be fair, this was probably better than I was expecting, but still don't think it's for me and won't be going back 2.5
It sounds like a Talking Heads album. Maybe I just wasn't in the mood today, but I got a bit bored.
American new wave doesn't sound much different than British new wave. Generic, mediocre, and annoying.
I haven’t quite cracked the code on why I can’t quite get behind Talking Heads, but it’s quite clear there no answers to be found in their sleepy debut.
talking heads' debut album released in 1977 has a cute title: talking heads: 77. but the actual album itself wasn't too exciting for me. my review for another of their albums allowed me to realize that i enjoy their hits but not much more. that holds true here, too. "psycho killer" is a certifiable bop of a song, but what sticks out the most is that talking heads replicate various aspects found in "psycho killer" into their other songs but nothing is as good or catchy. i did find myself intrigued because there's more funk than i expected (not mad about it).
I think I liked this Talking Heads album more than the previous one I received, but I am still not very enamored with them. I'm not sure what it is, but they just mostly come off as boring and sleepy to me. Don't get me wrong, I absolutely love everything about "Psycho Killer"; it has been my long-standing favorite Talking Heads song, but the rest of the album just didn't live up to the hype that this song gives me. I will say, Talking Heads have always sounded very distinct to me, and on this debut album, that sound is just as present for them as it is on later albums. So again, props to a band who knew their sound from the very beginning. It just turns out that I'm discovering that that sound is mostly not for me. If I was JUST reviewing "Psycho Killer", this would be an easy 5 stars, but unfortunately the rest of the album drags the rating down for me.
Ok, this is my second Talking Heads album now, and I’m no further forward with them than an asthmatic ant carrying some heavy shopping. I just…don’t get it. What’s the fascination? What do they bring? Why should this be blowing my socks off? Why doesn’t it? Why do I feel so nonplussed by it? I’m sure there will be another 300 of their albums to plod through so maybe better luck next time?
2/5. I understand the vibe and the crazy jump in rock music but the songs are just not super fun to listen to. You can tell there is potential for sure but David Byrne doesn’t feel like he knows what he’s singing about. Like someone told him to sing these songs. They’re fine but some can be quite annoying. Best song: Psycho Killer, New Feeling
Love talking heads but honestly let down. when their songs are bad they’re legit bad but their good ones are nice
C Uh-Oh, Love Comes to Town - 2 New Feeling - 3 Tentative Decisions - 3 Happy Day - 3 Who Is It? - 2 No Compassion - 1 The Book I Read - 3 Don’t Worry About The Government - 2 First Week / Last Week… Carefree - 3 Psycho Killer - 3 Pulled Up - 3 I don't really like the Talking Heads or this album, but it had some good moments. There were some low moments too. All in all, I don't understand the Talking Heads hype.
Just an alright record for me. I didn't actively dislike anything really but I didn't see any great reason to listen to this apart from the 2 best tracks - Psycho Killer which is cool but played so much throughout my life it's hard to not see it as radio filler/halloween novelty - Don't Worry About The Government which is legit an interesting song with a good hook and vibe
knew Psycho Killer from RB2 and always thought it was a weird yet kinda enjoyable track. the rest of this album is exactly that but it got kinda tedious.
Like kje Talking Heads, syns Psycho Killer e irriterande
Eeeesh, I wanted to like it, but man a little Talking Heads goes a long way.
I briefly listened to the album once, and it was ok. For such an influential band, there were sone highlights, but I also don’t understand the hype. Listen again: probably Purchase for my collection: no Favourite Song: Psycho Killer (the obvious choice) Worst Song:
Bassläufe oft nice, Gesang nicht so meins
It's okay, a bit above average. I like the vocals
This smoothly glided in and out of my years leaving now residue aside from “Psycho Killer”, which bangs. A clear concept well executed, I admire this record without it moving me: my loss.

I thought this would be a great album, one where I knew every song even though I never knew who sang them. Maybe I heard them all parodied on the Simpsons. But nope. I knew one. And it was awful. Let's put it this way. Any album where half the lyrics are "YEAH YEAH YEAH" or "NA-NA-NAAA-NA-NAH" or "BA BA BA" or just yelling into the mic, that's a "NO-NO-NOOO" for me. Still give this two stars since there are a couple of bangers. (Not Psycho Killer.)
I personally don't like the Talking Heads..
Not that special
Not a fan of the singers voice or how the songs are constructed. It just dosent click. But there are some redeeming qualities in some of the songs.
I liked one song.... otherwise just another old rock album with lots of boring music.
Meh. Besides Psycho Killer, there was nothing memorable for me.
Boring, armi Voice
I know there's nothing to be done at this point, it's written and published already, but GOD this book is just so fucking predictable and boring. So much fucking new wave, so many fucking talking heads albums, so much bullshit that sounds exactly the same as talking heads. 2/5 because psycho killer is fun enough in its own retarded way. But fuck off and die, Dimery.
Sons interessantes. Definitivamente é um álbum p ouvir mais de uma vez. Don't worry about the government e First week/last week... carefree me pareceram ser as mais instigantes.
Ok sound, but really repetitive. Cringe lyrics.
Aika blendiä, mutta psycho killer on tietenkin kova
Behalve het hitje vond ik weinig aan dit y
Funny album. Very random and chaotic but still enjoyable. If I could give it a 2.5 I would.
Kind of a boring album from a band that would release three nearly perfect to perfect albums later in their career. This is pretty much carried by Psycho Killer, but it's still worthwhile to hear the origins of one of the best bands of the 80s.
If Im honest, I didnt find it hugely engaging
2.75/5
Although I could see why people would like it, I just couldn't get into it minus a few songs
‘Psycho Killer’ is outstanding but there’s not that much else here.
Meh….didn’t finish it
just boring
what are these vocals and lyrics? this shit sucks. 2
An entire album is too much.
Well, it’s about what I expected. I respect Byrne’s music and artistry, but this just isn’t my kind of music. I love “This Must Be The Place” as much as the next guy, but I don’t really dig 77’s thirty-nine minutes of yodeling.
Meh
Not a fan of 80s sound and mixes, and chorus(song fuction) are too happy and bright but also in weirdly too conventional way for me. Basslines ar funky, lyrics also very fun. For example Tentavice decisions - i dont like chorus, but funky basslines in beginning is amazing. New feeling - funky lyrics. Album is FUN, but old way fun. Sure a classic of some sort that pictures good times in new york going crazy in your bedroom and dancing alone being a middle class grown up man with a tie. But for me it's hard to relate with harmonies and the emotional content which is a bit oldschool music for parents would fit. Not enough COOL a lot of stupid. 3/5 for me. xuj znaet kodel as ce angliskai rasau :DD NES ANGLISKAI COOL psychokiller ofc hitas.
Its okay
I dont know what it is, but i just dont really like them. His voice or the music works for me at all.
another 70's album, i am on a roll. quite the album i'll say
Pyscho killer an amazing tune, the rest not so much
I don't know why, but this kind of music makes me incredibly angry. "Psycho Killer" is the only song saving this from a 1/5 for me. The instrumentation is so incredibly bland. Every song these guys make is the same thing over and over again - what makes this album different from "Fear of Music" other than David Byrne mumbling slightly different nonsense? None of my complaints apply to "Remain in Light". That album is, dare I say it, funky as fuck.
Satunnaisia hyviä hetkiä, mutta vastapainona välillä menee ärsyttävyyskynnyksenkin yli. Yleiskuva vaisu.
Honestly, music was dope, but hate the vocals, makes me wanna rip my ears out
03/14/2022 Maybe my expectations were too high for this. Psycho Killer is nice, tho.
Best Song: The Book I Read. Romantic in that creepy vibe that the Talking Heads give off. Worst Song: Psycho Killer (Acoustic). It isn't terrible, but why is the song twice on the same album? They didn't even put the repetition at the end? Overall: It really just feels like more of the same of this pop punk, alternative rock. Never seems to put any gusto behind any of the songs. Feels like a slightly better version of the B52s.
Am I one of few that think this band is a tad overrated? I have delved into their back catalogue in the past and always feel a tad underwhelmed. Really did give this album a chance but I find a lot of their melodies jarring and musicianship in the main is nothing special. I can’t get onboard with Byrne’s voice on this album. I’m sorry , but I can’t. Having said that, I did like ‘Uh-Oh Love Comes To Town’ ‘No Compassion’ & obviously ‘Pyscho Killer’ the latter being aware of before. Some of the tracks to me are awful though- ‘Who Is It’ especially- just a load of bollocks. I really want to like this band- I just don’t based on what I heard so far.
Saved Prior: Psycho Killer, Pulled Up Off Rip: Uh-Oh, Loves Comes to Town Cutting Edge: None Overall Notes: Eh. I like the hits, but their obtuse rhythms and David Byrne's oscillations between weird inflections and simple melodies either hits or misses, and they mostly missed for me on this album. Truly cannot believe they did not fit a They Might Be Giants album on this list.
Couldn't get into it, psycho killers is a tune though
Did nothing for me
It's got the Talking Heads sound, but I liked it far less than Fear of Music. Compositions were a bit sparse for me. Looking forward to see if Remain in Light breaks the tie.
Disco muy plano para mi gusto, la voz de David Byrne esta muy ensima de todo el resto, además ese 'falso falsete' puede ser simpatico al principio pero resuta bastante irritanta llegando al final del disco. No lo volveria a escuchar.
This opening song is absolutely terrible. I'll just go out on a limb and guess that Psycho Killer is the only listenable song on this album. What do you know...I'm right. This is one and a half stars for me, but I'm feeling generous so I'll round up.
I just didn't get it
Really bad hahah
2/5 sadly nope.
Bei „The Book I Read“ flirrt es endlich etwas, ja flirrender. Ein selteneres Erlebnis. Noch etwas grün das rote Album 2.3
I still feel that Byrne repeats himself incessantly. Having said that, this album is better than some of the others.
A good start but they got a lot better...
can’t believe psycho killer was on this mess of an album
Loved the steel pan on Uh-Oh, Love Comes to Town. Other than that, not my fave. I have heard Psycho Killer before but I'm not really sure why that's the most popular song from this album, seems like nothing special to me.
meh
Creative, interesting, doesn't grab me.
Psycho killer killed my boner for this album
Meh, not my kinda style 3/5
Hm, hier hatte ich mehr Funkines erwartet, den Psychokiller liebe ich, der Rest ist irgendwie nicht hängen geblieben.
With the exception of Psycho Killer, Talking Heads' albums fail to uplift me. Their "best of" is another story.
Maybe it’s because we had some really great albums and also some huge stinkers this week, but this album didn’t feel like anything special. I did like Psycho Killer which I’ve heard somewhere before but the rest of the songs felt very off beat and abrupt in the way the guitars cut. The singing was a little off as well but I know the Talking Heads meant well. Their album cover is bland and kind of sums up the album itself. It isn’t bad, per se, but I was not a huge fan of this one.
No compassion & the book i read
Til tross for Psycho Killer, så blir dette kjedelige greier imo :(
Finally! An album that ends strong. In fact, this one ends so strong that the last two songs are really the only true highlights for me. There’s something David Byrne does with his voice where he just about reaches the point of screaming that I absolutely love. Sadly, there are about nine other things he does with his voice that I have come to understand that I will just never fully appreciate. Frequently, he does all 9 of these things in a single song and it kinda drives me mad. It makes me think that if you were friends with David Byrne when he was 19 you’d tell your other friends, “David’s cool. Super talented. I just wish he’d tone it down a bit, ya know?” I don’t know. I think this will always be one of those bands that I want to like more than I actually like. Them and Winger.
I was so excited to listen to talking heads, but my excitement quickly turned to disappointment. This is one of the talking heads albums I haven't heard, and I don't think I was missing much, compared to their other work, this is pretty boring. There's actually something very annoying and repetitive about these songs, it was kind of hard to listen to. This album just really didn't have anything that made their later work so great. I could see that they had some interesting ideas but it was seriously just so boring. I respect the band and I know they're capable of better, so maybe I'm just being extra harsh on this. I'm gonna go listen to remain in light.
Was alright. Psycho Killer obviously the brightest spot on the album but if you like the lead singer's voice you'll love the album
I understand the context of the album, but I found it boring and uninspired.
Tuttua Talking Headsia. Tällä kertaa Enottomana ja ehkä vähän vähemmän taiteellisena. Ei tämä kyllä silti edelleenkään iske yhtään. Laulajan ääni ärsyttää, musiikki on mitäänsanomatonta ja yleisesti koko levy jäi vaan aivan taustamölinäksi.
Good songs: 9 “First Week/Last Week.....Carefree”
Ok, one great song. Mostly forgettable.
Meh
ugh man idk idk idk it's like fine maybe david byrne's voice annoys me tho
Ganska tamt förutom Psycho Killer och Pulled Up...
Psycho Killer is the only tolerable song on here so this is technically a 1.5
All the songs sounded the same.
I've never liked Talking Heads, and this only confirms that I'm right. His voice could be used as an instrument of torture
The band's name sums it all up. What is there in this to include it on the list? Did it eventually lead to punk rock or something? Anyway, the second album in a row I am rating one, as it had passed the threshold of annoying me. Seriously, the instrumental parts are literally of zero curiosity here; the vocals are below average even. When the singer at last tries to put some emotion into a song, it tends to sound cringe and fails to resonate with you. A couple of songs were better that the rest—Happy Day and The Book I Read—but even in regard to those, I'll have to consider if I wish to keep them on my playlists. A throwaway album, one could easily skip it. The album cover only adds up to lack of anything worthwhile here.
1/11
I guess it was a debut album but I don’t get why this one rated the 1001??? Clearly they learnt a lot about catchy songwriting that would appear post 77. Cause this was just some weird ramblings and Dave Byrne didn’t even seem to have his trademark delivery down yet … That is apart from psycho killer - which was a well constructed popsong and a clear sign of things to come - the only track here that was destined for the greatest hits album. And again what is with this placing the only good track at the a**s end of the album? S&G did it. McCartney did it .. Was this a seventies thing and they didn’t start front loading albums until the 80s?
Uh-Oh, Love Comes To Town: 2/5. Realized pretty quickly that this isn't my thing, but it's an easy 38-minute listen. New Feeling: 3/5. Surprisingly liked this one a bit. The whininess felt appropriate and relatable. Tentative Decisions: 1/5. I like the outro, might've just been because it was over ahahahahaha Happy Day: 2/5. This boy is in motion............. Who Is It: 1/5. Happy Day, but worse. Honestly, it all started to blend together after this point. No Compassion: 3/5. I listened to the following 3 songs, but I don't remember how they went, nor do I wish to revisit them. The Book I Read: n/a Don't Worry About The Government: n/a First Week/Last Week.... Carefree: n/a Psycho Killer: 2/5. I know this one. Never liked it. Cool to see where it came from. Pulled Up: 3/5. This one is fun. This whole album is like if toddler-speak were intelligible. I'm not trying to be unkind; there's just not much to say. Nothing burger.
I like the Talking Heads and already have 19 of their songs "liked" on Spotify across all their albums. But I only have 1 song liked on this specific album - the classic "Psycho Killer" - which I think is a great song. So, I'm glad this is making me do a deep dive on this one. After listening 3 times... First song "Uh oh, Love Comes to Town" has a funky bass line and kettle drums. And the song has funny-ish lyrics about how love confuses you and makes you do stupid/irresponsible stuff. I must admit - other than that first song and Psycho Killer - I am VERY underwhelmed with this. I was hoping for a cool discovery of songs from a band for which I already like a bunch of their stuff. After those 2 songs, none of this connected with me at all and did NOT grow on me after repeated listens. I mean, I can recognize it as the Talking Heads - I think mostly because of his voice - but it's just not very good and doesn't make me want to listen to it again. Bummer, as I really was hoping for much better. Liked songs on Spotify: 2/11 Rating: 1/5
klinkt alsof ze nog wel aan het album hadden kunnen werken
nao vo ouca isso
no. Just no? Not a fan. I only finished this because it was in the background, I wouldn't have otherwise. I would listen again but I've just really been put off, no thanks!
Much much better than Remain In Light. It's still shit, but it just goes to show that Brian Eno is a terrorist.
i dont like
Dreary
Bad
Second Talking Heads album. It's been a good while since their last - some 250 albums. At first I thought this was the album which had "Radio Head", but that sadly isn't the case. I'll need to make my holy pilgrimage to that song someday. Anyways, "More Songs About Buildings and Food" hasn't really been on my mind. "The Good Thing" occasionally pops into my head for whatever reason, but other than that the album has been completely memoryholed. Maybe this one will be something better. I'm still curious about what a very early new wave album sounds like, much like I was with their previous album. Yup. This is another Talking Heads album, alright. Just David Byrne Byrning about as usual. Something about this album was mentally exhausting to me despite the short runtime. The instrumentals are dull, uninteresting and way too busy to leave an impression. Can't say I'm into Byrne's vocals, either. The strained, warbling falsetto that avant-garde musicians can't seem to get enough of just sounds like shit. Sorry, music industry, but it's the truth. Overall, these two aspects of the album let me down greatly, which is made even worse by the fact that they don't synergise with one another at all. Regardless, I'm still hopeful about understanding this band. Some of the tracks off Remain in Light are pretty decent. I only have their later albums to get through now, so maybe I'll come around. Book time. A "classic debut album". Many stylistic influences, but that's about it. Wikipedia says that this album only had mild chart success, but was very well-received by critics. Sure, whatever. I cosign this inclusion.
1/5
Grrrrrrrrrr. Lord, I want to give this album a 1. To be frank, it probably isn't a 1. It's unique and fully formed and mostly listenable. I maintain my current position: fuck David Byrne, fuck Talking Heads. You're sooooo geeky and silly and off-kilter. Take your grammy and go back to the fucking Rhode Island School of Design. Of COURSE that's where this band came from. Fave tracks: - Uh-Oh, Love Comes to Town - No Compassion - The Book I Read What exactly do people like about Psycho Killer..? Edit: What is life without choosing hills and dying on them? I am fighting a war against the Talking Heads. One bloody star.
1/5
Not my type of music
К блонди туда же, не моё
you know what... it's annoying and I dont get it
I can’t stand these guys
this shit was trash, I mean I guess it has psycho killer and that one isn't so bad but it's still hella boring
I discovered More Songs About Buildings and Food first, indeed I thought it was their first record back in another time, another place 1978. It is still one of my favourite records. And so when I finally got around to 77 it was too late. I've always thought this sounds a bit twee, demo like. You can tell they've not worked out what they want to do, and that's ok too how old would they have been? So for me it suffers with comparison with what came after, unfair I know but it doesn't make for an interesting listen in anyway.
I did not enjoy, too weird.
Hasn't aged well. Bit of a cacophony. Voice is awful.
Absolutely could not do this. I have been listening to alot of music outside of my genre and really pushing through the albums but this one...I absolutely cannot lol I now assume that they are called the Talking heads because they talk through music? Once again, I'm sure for lovers of this genre of music this is a great album, but I must move on. If music makes me angry it is not for me lol
Boy, I don’t remember David Byrne being so aggravating. Ya, it has one of the three Talking Heads songs on it a non-fan could name. The rest of the album makes me want to stab needles into my ears.
nothing spctacular
I got to song 5 of 36! When I realized that this was God torturing me for not believing in him. Tally Hall just does this better. I force myself through half the songs before I decided, "good enough"
1. Town - 1 2. Feeling - 0 3. Decisions - 0 4. Happy - 1 5. Who - 1 6. Compassion - 0 7. Book - 1 8. Worry - 0 9. Week - 0 10. Psycho - 1.5 11. Pulled - 1 12. Fire - 1 13. Say - 1 14. Killer - 1 15. Heart - 0 16. Sugar - 1 THESE GUYS SUCK
Ok. No more Bowie or Talking Heads albums...please!!!
Get in the bin. I just can't. No.
I don’t understand the love of the Talking Heads. I’ve given them several chances but it’s just not for me. David Byrne’s voice just sucks so bad, and it’s exceptionally bad on this album.
It feels like I'm listening to the circus performers while high, but I'm not enjoying the experience, also feels like when someone keeps talking your ear off about casual stuff you don't care about and won't stop. The music feels repetitive, spontaneous but sloppy, and the lyrics/vocals mimic spoken word, but as if adapted from high school poetry. Nope, not for me.
Just not to my taste and I had a hard time connecting to it and enjoying it. Honorable mention to Psycho Killer, no doubt the one song I liked the most.
The instrumentals sound like those songs characters in sitcoms come up with when they claim they play in a band but are clearly terrible. It's not just the voice, the entire thing sounds sedated. Maybe that was the general mood back then? Nah, someone should have been sober enough to stop this stuff.
too much cacophony
All I can think about when listening to these guys is Fred Armisten and Bill Hader's knock of in Documentary Now. What I didn't expect is that the the real band sounds even sillier than the mockumentary band. Really not my thing--I can't get over the goofy vocals. Not to mention the lyrics are stupid and nonsensical half the time, even on a rock level. And I don't love the music backing tracks, so it's not even like it's just the singer. As others have mentioned, Psycho Killer is the high point here. But not something I'd want to listen to more than once every half decade. 1/5
Forgettable album. I learned where the song Psycho Killer came from.
Not my kind of music.
One star for Psycho Killer, and even that song is a little overrated. All these tracks are either forgettable or skippable.
Musikalisch wie so typische Bayern 1 Songs und die Texte sind sooooo grottig. Erinnern mich an den Song von Patrick Star, was lyrische Komplexität angeht
I really hate talking heads a lot. I almost feel bad about it. It's completely irrational. I can understand that, musically, it's not bad. I just hate the way it sounds so much.
Not it lil bro.
I don’t like his voice. Nothing strikes me as interesting or catchy about the instrumentation. The lyrics might have some value but they’re not speaking to me. Just not my thing at all.
Packt mich überhaupt nicht!
unfortunately, it’s a no for me
Crap. Terrible way to start this experience.
Not really a fan of this music. I know one song on the album and even that I don't really like.
Pretentious and mannered.
Didn’t like it, found the songs monotonous. I liked Psycho Killer but the rest felt like filler tracks lacking any song structure or interest. Not an album I’ll ever return to, except maybe the track Psycho Killer.
Didn't like this one. Boring. Next!
Like marmite...you love them or hate it. I'm definitely the latter....Its shit.
Not for me. 1/5
It’s not my genre.
Really hate this one. It's messy and discordant in a bad way. I really love Talking Heads' few classic tunes, but most of this is garbage - god I sound old. David Byrne's voice is interesting but too weird for anything more than a couple of unique tracks.
Not for me.
Grim.
Psycho Killer!

Nope
Nope!!!
Masterclass in writing the worst lyrics imaginable
It was weird
This was annoying
I’ve always found David Byrne’s voice/style annoying and Talking Heads music uninspiring. This has clarified matters, what a dull album.
nie mój styl, angielskie "nie umiem spiewac wiec bede wyl jakbym spiewal na karaoke"
Really didnt care for thought it was annoying
*1.5 stars* Not bad, but quite boring and for some reason, somewhat childish too? If I had to pick a favourite, I'd choose No Compassion or Psycho Killer, but even then, I don't really see myself listening to these songs again.
Was ok until they started singing
Oh dear...no!
Kann ich nicht so viel mit anfangen.
