Ага, третий альбом Talking Heads в списке и дебютный хронологически. На более поздних работах мы уже засвидетельствовали, что Говорящие головы могут не только в простую нью-вейв музычку, с битом и ненавязчивый гитарой. Здесь же всё-таки более классическое содержание, которое тем не менее всё равно не оставляет равнодушным и "раскачивает". Блин, может, я консерватор... Похоже на Dire Straits с их гитарками немного. Правда, перечитав своё ревью на Remain In Light... я там тоже самое написал. Ладно, здесь это прям совсем-совсем отдалённо напоминает, но вот часть проигрышей точно очень похожи. Кстати, спасибо Саше Горчилину и ГШ за шикарный кавер на Psycho Killer, который долгое время создавал у меня ложный образ группы Talking Heads в голове. Ломаюсь с оценкой, поскольку вроде бы легендарная пластинка легендарной группы, очень крепкий дебютник, но с другой стороны, то, как ребята эволюционировали потом, мне очень сильно зашло и звучит оно покрепче. Ладно, это 4+/5.

Gets better as it goes on and by the end I was enjoying it.

Lots of interesting things going on here but ultimately a little to experimental for my taste. Psycho Killer is great of course but nothing else really lived up to my expectations.

I wasn't a big fan of this album The vocals didn't sit right on the songs in my opinion and most songs felt really awkward But there were some good guitar and bass playing all throughout the record

Psycho Killer is the star of this album. The rest is good too. :) Brian Eno became a fan and became involved with the talking heads. I definitely see a correlation between the two of them. A level of brilliance that isn't appreciated by the average music listener. 3/5

No matter how legendary and innovative this group was, this album I’m afraid just doesn’t carry into 2023 that well. Sounds very basic with no real high points.

On their fourth album on this list, Talking Heads offer little new but give us more of the same which is entertaining and decent rock pop with electronic influences

I’ve heard this one before and was indifferent, but revisiting it has revealed new treasures. It’s similar to my experience with Fear of Music: initially underwhelming but growing on me with every play. Again it’s David Byrne’s lyrics that grabbed me first, with the music taking a couple more listens to catch up. Side one still isn’t completely clicking for me yet, but side two is very strong indeed (having a song like Psycho Killer in your ranks doesn’t hurt). 3.5 and rising.

3/5 I didn't find this album as difficult to listen to as the first one we had. I kind of liked the weird vaguely Mexican sounding stuff in First Week/Last Week... Carefree. I kinda liked Psycho Killer but that's a hit so I don't know if that counts. I feel like they were trying to be British Punk in some ways but failed.

Ehh. Funky and a bit whiney but I made it through. Not a massive fan and hoping that there aren't a load more Talking Heads albums yet to come. Average but not bloated, I survived.

I haven't listened to this album in a long time. From memory, I perceived this album as very good. It didn't quite sell me this time around. There is Uh-Oh and Psycho, and a couple of other decent tracks, but the filler is weak and plentiful. Definitely an epic first release, but the Taking Heads are gonna do better in the future.

Great grooves. Chris Frantz and Tina Weymouth are fantastic. Early David Byrne lyrics are weird as expected, maybe weirder on the first TH album. Their better work was still to come. This is very good, not great.

Really good new wave music. Chris Frantz and Tina Weymouth are great timekeepers, but I suppose it helps they’re married. Starts strong with Uh-Oh, ends really strongly with Psycho Killer and Pulled Up. Lost my focus in the middle of the album, keeps it from the elusive 5th star.

Few nice songs

Weer een voorbeeld dat je echt niet hoeft te kunnen zingen om in deze lijst te komen. Wat dat betreft is er hoop voor Mia & Dion. Er is weinig wat me verder echt irriteerde, maar ook weinig wat me extra vreugde bracht. Ik heb hier niks mee. Tussen de 2 en 3, afgerond naar 3.

One more classic. Has a great vibe, somewhat Beatles vibes but a littlebit more serious. I like it very very much.

I briefly listened to the album once, and it was ok. For such an influential band, there were sone highlights, but I also don’t understand the hype. Listen again: probably Purchase for my collection: no Favourite Song: Psycho Killer (the obvious choice) Worst Song:

I thought I would like this more than I did. Deffo see the influence on other bands. Some of it reminded me of Sams Town by the Killers. Few standouts but not enough. Just scraped a 3

Listening to Talking Heads 77 is like opening a can of Pringles – once you pop, you just can't stop. And don't even get me started on "Psycho Killer." That song will burrow into your brain like a parasitic worm and live there rent-free for the rest of your life. But hey, at least it's a catchy worm. But let's be real, Talking Heads 77 is more than just a one-hit wonder. With its eclectic mix of punk, funk, and rock, this album will have you bopping your head and shaking your booty like a Muppet on speed. So if you're ready to embrace your inner weirdo and dance like nobody's watching, then Talking Heads 77 is the album for you. Just be prepared for "Psycho Killer" to be your new brain roommate.

Not bad. Prior to listening, I was only familiar with the track: "Psycho Killer;" I think after listening, there's a couple that are worth revisiting.

Cat: funny this followed Devo- similar but not at all! More poppy, but the songs don’t really stick out at all. They kinda happen and then they end. But I still love the groove. Don’t Worry About the Government 100% makes me think of my dad. He knows all the words. AJ: Talking Heads and Devo. Art kids. Visual bands I’d imagine. Last two songs on this album are awesome. Seems for me, with the Heads, that I love the songs I love and really have no use for anything I haven’t heard. Spotify went into And She Was after this ended and I was way less worked up (lol) and so happy it was on. Stop Making Sense and a few other gems and I’m good. Like them much more than Devo, not saying much. Just sound better to me. I like what I like. The rest kinda pisses me off. Lol

I mean it's a fucking classic. So listenable, great lyrics really fun hooks. I love new wave and I love this record.

This smoothly glided in and out of my years leaving now residue aside from “Psycho Killer”, which bangs. A clear concept well executed, I admire this record without it moving me: my loss.

Textbook debut album - the pieces are there but not yet aligned, the songs are callow and not fully formed. Singles are great, the rest are a work in progress and pretty interchangeable. Amazing how much better they got so quickly

Mye bra, mye dårlig..

Genre: Talking Heads Review: Unique, path-breaking and still as fresh and exciting as it was all those years ago. Rating: A "once-in-a-lifetime" 10/10

My twin bro Sai's recent obsession, Talking Heads, tends to be brought up in any conversation - as is his wont (-_-) - but I hadn't yet given it a chance (as is probably mine). Now despite that - or because of it? - I went into it with fairly low expectations. The first few songs felt like samplers, setting me in the mood, but once I got into it, I was hooked! Very catchy and upbeat, puts a smile on my face. I think I can listen to music like this for hours! Just hope it has the retaining power which, so far, hasn't always happened with artists that sound like them. Thankfully I've got the aptly-named playlist "Talking Heads - average" to help out ;)

A Solid New Wave a Debut album, and is Worth A Listen to this day.

I thought this would be a great album, one where I knew every song even though I never knew who sang them. Maybe I heard them all parodied on the Simpsons. But nope. I knew one. And it was awful. Let's put it this way. Any album where half the lyrics are "YEAH YEAH YEAH" or "NA-NA-NAAA-NA-NAH" or "BA BA BA" or just yelling into the mic, that's a "NO-NO-NOOO" for me. Still give this two stars since there are a couple of bangers. (Not Psycho Killer.)

I would consider this a quality debut album from a band with a truly unique sound. The sonic diversity on this album is stellar and there are a lot of great songs on here!

A classic, but I’ve never been a Talking Heads fan

Not a fan of the singers voice or how the songs are constructed. It just dosent click. But there are some redeeming qualities in some of the songs.

The irreverance and sass that is The Talking Heads comes through clearly on this debut album. Maybe not their best but decidedly a warning shot across the bow of the music world for what was to come.

I enjoy Psycho Killer, but don’t know that this is album I’d want to go back to on repeat.

This album felt like a let loose, be free, experimental experience with a nostalgic undertone. It may be the time it was recorded, but it sounds live. I could definitely see this being popular among a cult of people since the 70s.

I liked one song.... otherwise just another old rock album with lots of boring music.

His voice is on the fine line that lies between eccentricity and plain annoyance. Do I hate it? Yep. Does the music make up for it? Also yes. It's a drunk man singing and I love it lol

Great band, early album

I feel like we have been listening to a lot of repeats of artists lately. I know many bands and musicians have a huge body of work which can evolve and diversify through time. But sometimes I need more time and distance between listens. I don’t want to write a repeat critique and say exactly what I said about Talking Heads last time although I feel exactly the same. When I have nothing to say, my lips are sealed Say something once, why say it again? I love the singles, I would have been very happy with a best of album. But I just found this wearisome, and was only energised when it got to psycho killer. Fa-fa-fa-fa, fa-fa-fa-fa-fa-fa, better Run, run, run, run, run, run, run away, oh-oh-oh!

Meh. Besides Psycho Killer, there was nothing memorable for me.

It pains me to go with a 3-star rating for this album. I really do like it better than that, and considering this is the band's debut, it's impressive to hear how fully realized they are as a unit. All the elements are there, and David Byrne's weird vocalizations and insights and lyrics are arty and odd and set the stage for his long career as a music innovator. And the rest of the band — Weymouth, Frantz, and Harrison — are fantastic. They don't get the credit they deserve by casual fans But... it's a little much, taken as a whole. Each track is pretty fantastic on its own, and "Psycho Killer" is just a flat-out awesome tune. Still, with all those accolades, this one sits somewhere between a 3 and a 4 for me, and I was leaning lower as the album progressed. So, not a star rating that aligns with my respect for the album and the band, but there it is.

Huh. I guess I'm becoming a Talking Heads fan. Cool grooves, fun lyrics, plus Tina's a great bassist. The first few songs were a little too formless for my liking, but by the time I got to Who Is It? I was all in. I guess I need to dive back in and start from the beginning.

Boring, armi Voice

This album has everything you look for from this game-changing New York band. There’s absolutely no question that what was to come, new wave, is grossly inspired by this album. I’d even venture to guess Peter Gabriel was a fan.

Wish I could understand its supposed greatness, but I find it annoying and uninspired.

A great debut; still sounds fresh 46 years later.

Love talking heads, 1st album

Had the song Psycho Killer in my head all weekend, so I'm going to give this one a little higher rating.

As I said, I rate this on vibe not necessarily on technical quality.

I find the rhythms pretty outdated and kitschy. I guess I just don't understand the presumed genius here. It was a real slog for me and I didn't finish it.

This is a 3.5 for me. I’ll round up because of their influence and a lot of it is quite good, but I’ve never been able to get into talking heads. Byrne’s voice kind of drives me crazy

Psycho killer... Cat Café.... Pspspsps. That video totally ruined the song for me as I can only think about the cat variant even though I've listened to Psycho killer so many times before. To be honest Talking Heads have never been a favorite of mine as it's not my type of rock. They sure are talented and I like some of their songs but there's something with the style of playing and David Byrne's distinct type of singing that doesn't do it for me. Back to the single Psycho Killer. It's got one of the best bass lines and is overall a 5/5 song but the rest of the songs doesn't come close.

Oooh always nice to hear a Talking Heads album and this is the debut no less. I just think for me Psycho Killer eclipses the rest of the album it's such a fucking genius song and I have a strong love for it. I also just love their sound in general and this is one of those debuts which I think really put their distinct sound out into the world right away, there was no warm up needed. Very impressive and takes some conviction. The beats, the bass, the voice and the lyrics all so brilliant and so unique.

Well it's has certified K town banger psycho killer on it so I want to rate high. But I have to say this was a bit heavy on the jaunty slightly surreal songs that I don't really get into with Talking heads. Despite being a big fan of course and I absolutely love loads of their stuff. Wasn't blown away by this one

I know there's nothing to be done at this point, it's written and published already, but GOD this book is just so fucking predictable and boring. So much fucking new wave, so many fucking talking heads albums, so much bullshit that sounds exactly the same as talking heads. 2/5 because psycho killer is fun enough in its own retarded way. But fuck off and die, Dimery.

Great sound, Talking Heads always has such an interesting energy and this album is no different. Highly recommend.

This is a really strong debut album. I like but don't love Talking Heads. I think they're a really talented band and have a really unique sound but I tend to gravitate more towards their hits and have never really loved them enough to dig into their deeper cuts. I knew a lot of the tracks on this album, which has a particularly solid second half. Much like Talking Heads as a whole, I really like but don't love this album. It does a great job of setting the table for what to expect from the band going forward. Standout Tracks: New Feeling, Happy Day, Don't Worry About The Government, First Week / Last Week..... Carefree, Psycho Killer, Pulled Up

It took a couple of plays to get into it, but I really like this album. The usual dsrk familiar anxiety-driven themes. Good stuff.

It was interesting to take an American take on punk. I love the whimsical lyrics and delivery, but the album is not particularly varied or exciting musically.

Talking Heads' entire catalog is great! Remain in Light is a masterpiece. I recognize the critical hype of Talking Heads: 77 and have a hard time accepting it as more than 3.5 stars. I try to listen as if I was exposed to this in 1977, amd think that it was a "you had to be there" moment. Good for a casual listen.

Funny album. Very random and chaotic but still enjoyable. If I could give it a 2.5 I would.

Amazing that this was in 1977...it paved the way for a lot of what 80's "New Wave" became. Groundbreaking album.

Psycho Killer is one of the best Talking Heads songs ever, and probably a top 100 alternative rock song.From the bonus songs: I Wish You Wouldn't Say That was on the Revenge of the Killer Bee's album I had in the 1980s, so that songs is a memorable one for me for that. The rest of the album is good and if you are a real talking heads fan I am sure this is classic. For me, just getting to know it - I think it is good enough to keep listening to.

This was the first Talking Heads album I listened to from start to finish. I liked it. Good bass lines interesting lyrics. "No Compassion" layered song with interesting time signature. I didn't enjoy "Don't Worry About the Government". Actually, tail end of the album sort of loses it for me. Although Psycho Killer is good.

Крутое начало альбома, ближе к середине становится как-то скучновато, но в конце альбом восстает как феникс и кидает на стол главный бенгер - psycho killer. (это если считать что альбом - это 11 треков, тк 16 на делюксе) не сказать что мне нравится вокал, он довольно специфичный. но музыка и слова здесь мне понравились больше. Теперь я знаю что такое нью-вейв, потому что до прослушивания этого альбома я бы наверное не смог бы дать точное определение, но пока слушал этот альбом я нормально поресерчил и теперь в курсе. Мне релиз понравился, потому что более попсовый рок как мне кажется что испортить тяжелее чем тяжелый. тут тоже есть моментами какие-то панк-потуги, но слава богу они были пресечены на стадии зарождения. Тем не менее, половина альбома как по мне была невзрачной, и вряд ли я еще послушаю его когда-то целиком. Лучшие песни: Psycho Killer, Uh-Oh love Comes to Town, The Book I Read

3.5 out of 5. A grower for sure. 3 or 4 very good tracks, including the classic Psycho Killer.

Album is quite experimental; I enjoy the switching of key signatures. Knowing only a little about the Talking Heads, I did think this album fits their style quite well.

This is a good band. There is in this album the hit "Psycho Killer".

This was an interesting one for me; I consider myself a huge Talking Heads fan, but also their big deal albums for me all come from their middle/later years, like Remain in Light onward. So even having grown up with their stuff around, I never really checked out their earliest offerings.

Psycho killer is good. The other songs didn't convince me to vote higher. Don't love it, don't hate it.

Kind of a boring album from a band that would release three nearly perfect to perfect albums later in their career. This is pretty much carried by Psycho Killer, but it's still worthwhile to hear the origins of one of the best bands of the 80s.

As soon as the first song started I was immediately fully engaged with the album. I knew it was gonna be a good one. And it was. Perhaps not quite as consistent as I originally thought it was going to be, but the album has great standout tracks that serve as an excellent introduction to the band. Fantastic riffs and unique vocals, after listening to this album twice I know I will be delving deeper into Talking Heads discography in the future. Not only Psycho Killer, but also the rest of the album show a band on the break of becoming one of the best (and is nearly there).

You had the Ramones for Punk in ‘76 and the Talking Heads for New Wave in ‘77. Both playing on the same stage at CBGBs. That’s some cool history. An even better way to hear these songs is on the live album “The Name of This Band Is Talking Heads.”

Although I could see why people would like it, I just couldn't get into it minus a few songs

Really strong debut with many standout songs. It’s pretty amazing how fully formed the sound and sensibility is (giving credit to what was related in reading about the making of the album, that the band put off going into the studio for quite a while after interest in recording them began, due in part to feeling they weren’t yet ready).

‘Psycho Killer’ is outstanding but there’s not that much else here.

It starts with Tina's bass. It's direct, primitive, a heartbeat. There's an irresistible brew of jagged, danceable tunes with David's voice over the top. He should be irritating but he's not. This is possibly their weakest album yet it's an easy 5. This album came out when I was 17 but I didn't discover it until I was 57.

Love the disco feel on this, quite easy to listen to and difficult to move a part of your body while listening to this

I quite enjoyed this début album. A good quirky listen; just how I like my Talking Heads.

I recall a time in my life when I didn't really care for music from Talking Heads. I outgrew that dislike and have come to appreciate a variety of works from this band. This album is no exception. I liked what I was hearing musically. It was kind of unusual and interesting.

Now on our third Talking Heads album for this project. Other than Psycho Killer, I don’t recall having heard anything on this album before. On the first listen I was less enthusiastic about this, but then on my second and third listens fell in love with this expectedly weird and quirky ride. So much so that I went back and listened to the Deluxe version with 5 extra songs. Those are great additions to a great album! Psycho Killer acoustic is amazing with that cello!

Yes -this is sufficiently different to most everything else around at the time. Although I can't say I love it, I do love a couple of the tracks here, and I definitely appreciate the craftmanship of both the songwriting, the instrumentals and the production. Saying that - Psycho Killer is genuinely an exceptional track so that has to be taken into account.

One of the shining lights of the late 70s punk and new wave scene at CBGB, Talking Heads are scrappy, jittery, and unlike most anything America had heard before. The darkness of the lyrics constraint beautifully with the chirping guitar.

Now this is new-wave I can get behind! I really did not get Talking Heads in my younger days. Now I find myself enjoying them more and more with each re-visit. Their debut is rough around the edges, but very much points forward towards material yet to come. 'No Compassion' slaps hard, and 'Don't Worry About the Government' is so good and gives Byrne an excuse to flex his musicianship. Finally, 'Pulled Up' is a nice closer, but 'Psycho Killer' definitely steals the show. "Say something once, why say it again?"

This is not exactly as strong as some of their later albums; but it’s stills quite an impressive start! Byrne is still in the progress of really finding himself, but you still get occasional glimpses of why he’s one of the greatest front figures in music; “Psycho Killer” is the perfect example of that. The rest of the material is pretty solid as well but the distinct expressiveness of Talking Heads still needs that finish polish before they (only a few years later) emerges as a world class act. I’m starting to repeat myself so I’ll let Byrne have the last word: “Say something once, why say it again?”

A very cool mid-80s sound coming in a few years early. Intersesting and edgy, without feeling quite like a major hallmark. Still bonus points based on all the goodness to come, best signalled by the steel drums rather subtly slotted into the opener.

The albums I like best on this list are the ones that are like nothing that have been heard before. This counts. Although the songs are a little bit repetitive within the record, this was a new direction.

This is a good album with an amazing single. Psycho killer isn't just my favorite Talking Heads song, it's one of my favorite songs ever.

I started listening before reading up on the album and thought like it sounded like pretty solid Talking Heads, very much their typical sound. I like Talking Heads well enough and am enjoying the album. I'd say 3.5 stars except now that I've clicked through to realize that this is their debut, wow! Apparently they sprung to life fully formed and confident in their sound. Psycho Killer is iconic and all the more amazing for being part of their initial offering. Definitely rounding up on this one.

I only ever listened to individual songs from The Talking Head and never a whole album. So this was kinda new to me. Good Album. Some songs are better than others but all in all pretty solid. This album is fine for Headheads. Psycho Killer is a hot tune. Everything else is just kind of forgettable. Maybe worth a relisten?

Bit of an odd one, I was kind of expecting to be disappointed but was surprised how much I enjoyed it. It’s very cool to like Talking Heads and when I’ve listened to albums in the past been a little underwhelmed. This was a quirky, perky, punky, funky, reggae party. It got a little too quirky at times to the point of getting on my tits but all in all good fun. Not quite as cool as the hype might lead you to believe but a decent 4.

Well, it’s about what I expected. I respect Byrne’s music and artistry, but this just isn’t my kind of music. I love “This Must Be The Place” as much as the next guy, but I don’t really dig 77’s thirty-nine minutes of yodeling.

Not a fan of 80s sound and mixes, and chorus(song fuction) are too happy and bright but also in weirdly too conventional way for me. Basslines ar funky, lyrics also very fun. For example Tentavice decisions - i dont like chorus, but funky basslines in beginning is amazing. New feeling - funky lyrics. Album is FUN, but old way fun. Sure a classic of some sort that pictures good times in new york going crazy in your bedroom and dancing alone being a middle class grown up man with a tie. But for me it's hard to relate with harmonies and the emotional content which is a bit oldschool music for parents would fit. Talking Heads are an acquired taste and one that I have not acquired yet. Good songs, well produced, but the vocal style distracts more than it contributes. The stand out track is the well known Psycho Killer with none of the others really distinguishing themselves.

Brilliant debut. They went on to make better albums but what a first effort. Nobody does rhythms like David Byrne.

мне очень нравились говорящие головы после фильма женщины двадцатого века (который я очень любила, да и сейчас бы с удовольствием пересмотрела, наверное). один из главных героев слушал их, и пара песен входила в саундтрек (их собственно я и слушала). ну и, конечно, один из любимых моментов в истории кино - саша горч в "лете" поет сайко киллер... а еще элио из кол ми бай ё нэйм ходил в футболке с обложкой одного из альбомов!.. короче, давно уже я должна была слушать на постоянке говорящие головы, но вот только сейчас норм альбом послушала (спасибо альбомный генератор).. короче: альбом суперский, хочу его в саундтрек моей жизни (да-да, ничего нормального про саму музыку я писать не буду, тока эмоции, тока постпанк)

Very inventive and almost camp vocals from David Byrne’s iconic voice mixed with funky r&b, pop and even disco influence. Love child of almost all popular genre’s at the time. I feel as though they didnt take themselves too seriously and it shows on this album. Funky concepts, nonsensical lyrics, and a primal voice makes this album feel fun and inviting. Something to listen to when upset to lift your spirits. Favorite Songs: New Feeling, The Book I Read, Psycho Killer Album Art: its alright, just a plain red background with a contrasting colored title. Simple but gets the job done.

content wise, david byrne is on fire. I really like him as a lyricist. his songs can be funny, subversive, and powerful. I don't always love the songs themselves but for some reason as a person that doesn't really pay attention to lyrics that much that's what makes this 4 stars for me. This man annunciates. that helps.

I don't know why, but this kind of music makes me incredibly angry. "Psycho Killer" is the only song saving this from a 1/5 for me. The instrumentation is so incredibly bland. Every song these guys make is the same thing over and over again - what makes this album different from "Fear of Music" other than David Byrne mumbling slightly different nonsense? None of my complaints apply to "Remain in Light". That album is, dare I say it, funky as fuck.

"Psycho Killer, qu'est-ce que c'est ? Pa pa pa paaa pa pa pa paaaa pa pa !" No band ever sounded like the Talking Heads. Originally I was not a *huge* fan--I only knew them through the compilation "Popular Favorites", and also their 1980 masterpiece, "Remain In Light". But since those days, I understood two things: a) Minus stuff on the level of " Once In A Lifetime" or "Psycho Killer", I finally understood that their so-called "popular favorites" are *mostly* NOT among my favorite tracks of theirs. Case in point here, the two first songs of this record, which I absolutely love (and yet were absent from this compilation I mentioned earlier...) b) No compilation, even one as comprehensive as it can reasonably be, can do justice to what the Heads do so brilliantly in their individual records (especially the first four of them). Some tracks take on a different meaning overall during the flow of these individual albums. ALL the songs are adventurous affairs with bold arrangements. And David Byrne can be an impressive storyteller sometimes... Consequently, I now get how this first record of theirs must have been a shock for rock (and punk) fans. This one here is interesting because it predates Brian Eno's involvement with the band. The overall sound is more direct, rawer, which brings a charm that's different from their later output. There's still that influence from protopunk bands such as The Modern Lovers (logical since the two bands had the same second guitarist). To put this in a nutshell, this record is worthy of its legendary status, Number of albums left to review or just listen to: 889 Number of albums from the list I find relevant enough to be mandatory listens: 59 (including this one) Albums from the list I *might* include in mine later on: 29 Albums from the list I will certainly *not* include in mine (many others are more important): 24

Ah dear old David Byrne and Co.... probably one of the best debut albums ever here. Just classic post punk art rock. Great tunes and super delivery from David. "Uh-Oh Love Comes to Town" "Tentative Decisions" "First Week, Last Week....Carefree" and of course the classic "Psycho Killer" are my favourites. Rightfully on the list, top stuff.

Talking Heads’ debut album is an up tempo, new wave classic and despite the band being but newly formed there is already a remarkable synergy between the band members captured here which points the way forward to even more remarkable material to follow. The vibe is terrific and Psycho Killer loses none of its impact despite its ubiquity, that driving insistent bass and stabbing guitar riff and Byrne’s odd French and classic soul lyrics render an unique experience.

Hadn't heard this whole album before. Some of these tunes I thought were from later albums and not their debut. I really enjoyed it, it was less quirky than I was expecting and way more polished.

77. 1977 was a fantastic year for the rise of New Year. Among Devo and Elvis Costello stood a CGBG art punk band called Talking Heads, characterized by lunatic vocals by David Byrne, a voice like no other, and repetitive poetic lyrics on themes of the psychology of an outspoken paranoid social outcast. I also love that Caribbean sound. Is that just the guitar and steel pan? If not for their later albums, people would regard this album much higher. There's no Eno touch, and they haven't quite found their sound yet. But it's raw and full of creative ideas. "Uh Oh Love Comes to Town" starts off sounding like a reaction to disco. "Happy Day" is a beautiful underrated song acts as a sign of their Little Creatures sound. "No Compassion" sees one of my favorite punk techniques: a fakeout of the song ending followed by a re-do. Personally, I quite enjoyed nearly all the tracks. At least something cool and unusual stuck out to me from every track. And sure, some of the tracks are forgettable, but those cool moments stick. Plus, how could you say no to a commie album cover?
