Reviews (page 11 of 14)

That was a cool listen. I knew psycho killer already, but the rest were good

Arty, jumpy, punky. Obviously if I was an achingly cool hipster then I'd be giving this 6 out of 5 whilst admiring some kind of post-modern art. As it is, whilst I do like David Byrne's unique vocals, there's almost something too clinical about Talking Heads.

Fine for what it is. I don't expect to listen to it again. ⭐⭐⭐

Surprised it was David Byrne's singing that held me back from loving this. Really loved the odd delivery and exaggerated emotion on some songs but it veered into silly too often. Love the groovy music and steel drums and chimes.

I've heard the song psycho killer from them but that's about the only one. The whole time listening it reminded me of that song but I couldn't think of what it was until it started playing. I do like psycho killer but the rest of their songs sounds very similar and I like variety in albums. I do like pulled up cuz its upbeat.

Definitely Talking Heads. Maybe simpler than their later stuff?

I feel like they hadn’t done enough coke yet

Just kind of average. Psycho Killer is easily the peak, not much else to say. 6/10 Top 3: 1. Psycho Killer 2. Uh-Oh, Love Comes To Town 3. Tentative Decisions

I like the style. Only knew a few songs so far.

Talking Heads has such a distinctive style... I was really excited about the first two songs in this album, good upbeat vibes and amusing vocals as well. By the end of the album I was ready for something different though. Strong finish with Psycho Killer and Pulled Up though!

Einerlein, langweilig

Honestly didn’t like it as much as I thought I would. It was a decent album but felt like there was a few repetitive songs and was a tad boring. Talking Heads definitely better after this album. Psycho Killer is still a bop

I love the Talking Heads, but I've never been able to get into this album for some reason. I really like some of the songs and the overall sound, and I definitely recognize it's influence. But as an album, I don't think it holds up to More Songs..., Remain in Light, or Speaking in Tongues. Maybe one day it will click with me. I do love 'Don't Worry About The Gov" and 'Psycho Killer' though.

I like talking heads but most of this album mediocre

Pretty good, catchy with good basslines

Better than I was expecting. Actually found some things to like on this album.

When I reviewed "Fear of music", I considered that "the first great TH album." This album was released before "Fear of music". Enough said. It's good, some songs are great, but as an album it's still unripe. (I don't like numeric ratings, I just give 3 to anyone)

Some good songs, Talking Heads really aren't my thing but this is a good album

I've listened to a lot more talking heads since our last album sometime in the spring and I have liked them a lot more. This album was pretty good but definitely not my favorite. The book I Read and Psycho Killer are the top jams for sure.

I'm conflicted on Talking Heads. they're a great band, they paved the way for an entire genre, sub-genre and the future of music. BUT David Byrne just rubs me the wrong way. All is forgiven on some of their other releases, but 77 just doesn't fit here with the exception of Psycho Killer. Psycho Killer is a great song, but it doesn't do enough heavy lifting to bring this album the greatness it is getting. 3.5/5

3.5, it's not my favorite TH album

Funky and plucky rock sound. Feels like all the songs were pretty similar, but they sound they were going for was mastered in Psycho Killer.

A little too 70 experimental for me.

getting this right after watching stop making sense... couldn't think of a better way to start this journey; well maybe I could think of a better way - a different talking heads album because this one.... idk psycho killer is great of course but the rest? let's be real they've made much better albums than this one.

This is a pre 80s album of the most 80s music/band possible. Psycho killer is a great track. The rest of the album is still pretty decent but not as consistent. I know a lot of these albums on this list are on here more for their musical impact than their talent. This one definitely makes sense. The whole decade of the 80s may have been wildly different without this album, and it’s still pretty good to listen to. 6.7/10

Back at it again with the talking heads... I don't get it.. yet :(

It's fine. Talking Heads have always been their own thing - something different, but not so different that people won't listen to them. Solid middle-of-the-road.

The last two songs pretty much redeemed the whole album. It makes me think of the possibility if it was a bit more rhythmic vs experimental.

Funky way of rocking. Clever lyrics and "whining" frontman. It gets there. I'm starting to realize why people like Talking Heads. 3.5/5.

The vocalist sounds like he's whining, moaning, crying at times but the music isn't bad.

Fun record, simple yet fun. At parts it makes me think of what the Smiths might sound like if they enjoyed funk and were a bit happier. Psycho Killer is a great track

Decent album. Not a style of music I like

Psycho killer and a bunch of filler - most of it pretty pish. It doesn't help that David Byrne can't really sing that good (at this point in his career). Interesting though, and important due to the stature and influence of the band. A tricky one to score - forgive me for bottling it a bit!

I enjoy Talking Heads, but this album sounds too immature to me. David Byrne's use of his voice is the most interesting component, while a lot of the instrumental work a bit boring and subdued. The more energetic tracks also happen to be the best but it's a few and far between. Best Songs: No Compassion, Psycho Killer, Pulled Up Listen Again: Not Really

Some bangers. Some snoozers. The Talking Heads always strikes me as a talented band trying real hard to be boring. Every now and then they fail and record something great, but a lot of it is just repetitive.

Punchy, quirky, sometimes catchy. A product of its time. But not something I'd repeat listen much.

About what I would expect from the 77th album of the Talking Heads

I don't hate this album (mostly because I have a bit of a soft spot for David Byrne). This is a strange alternative punk record. Definitely not my favorite.

Really unique. Really fun. Makes me want to listen to more of them

I generally like the Talking Heads, but this album wasn't as enjoyable to me as most of their other work. I was only familiar with "Psycho Killer," and that was easily my favorite track on the album. The guitar playing was fantastic throughout the entire album, and I love David Byrne's vocals too. Several songs had elements that I liked: the steel pan on "Uh-Oh, Love Comes To Town," the fluctuating tempo of "No Compassion," and the percussion on "First Week/Last Week... Carefree." Overall though, without those little elements, most of the songs on this album were pretty middle of the road for me. I still enjoyed listening to this album, but it's not a part of the Talking Heads' discography that I'll revisit.

groovy

I mean, Psycho Killer is cool. I'm not sure how much I like anything else on this album. I question how much I would like Psycho Killer without previous familiarity.

Talking Heads definitely have a really unique sound. But I think sometimes their unique sound gets kind of old. The songs on this album were all pretty good, but they kind of felt monotonous to me. I can see why Psycho Killer is one of their most popular songs though!

Psycho killer stood out.

Pretty good. Not feeling it but its good music

dont like talking heads that much but they're starting to grow on me

It's not terrible, but aside from Psycho killer it really isn't anything worth returning to.

The albums's okay. Very much sounds like what I imagined early Talking Heads would sound like, having listened to the better albums first. Dunno if I'll spin it at a later point.

Pretty nice alt rock with hints of punk inspiration. I can appreciate it but it's not my jam.

You can hear how it influenced lots of the 80s. David Byrne may have started the whole new wave genre just by himself. I respect that. But I don’t like new wave. 3 stars

gute laune

There are a couple of songs by the Talking Heads that I would not want anyone else to sing. Most of the rest, I'd want anyone else to sing.

Fun I'd listen to this again.

not bad. Psycho Killer is the best track, no surprise. IDK if this really ranks 3 for me but I'll round up

Very identifiable Talking Heads sound, iconic vocalist. Strange lyrics and sounds, but all around enjoyable. “Psycho Killer” will forever be a must listen. 3/5, no other tracks that I plan to come back to, but happy to have heard the album.

Funky new wave. It all kind of sounds the same. 3/5

Talking Heads is one of those bands that I did not appreciate when they first came out. I think many people see them as love 'em or hate 'em. They've grown on me over the years. Glad to revisit this album. A wonderfully weird debut album. "Psycho Killer" is likely the only song most people have ever heard of. The rest of the album is very good too.

So far it's fun but maybe not living up to my premade expectations. Listened twice and nothing really jumped out at me.

Vocals not quite my taste Nice guitar/drum combos No Compassion/Psycho Killer/Sugar on my Tongue all bang

Love talking heads. And can’t argue against their debut being on the list, but they have a few better albums than this one that I tend to go back to more

Pretty enjoyable, standout track was the closer "Pulled Up"

Aquired taste. Some songs awesome. Knew it already.

Weird ngl

I have never been a Talking Heads fan, but there really has been no one like them. A completely unique sound.

Ahead of their time for a US band, this album reveals the way forward for a nation trapped in country music and AOR.

-omg its THE TALKING HEADS -very excited for this -i do know one song on this album (psycho killer) but thats it -this is a pretty short album compared to others i’ve listened to -this is pretty chill and groovy so far -this is nice to listen to but i don’t Love it, enjoying it tho -his voice has this strain to it that i kinda like -overall a 3 star for me

Was upbeat and cutting edge back when released. calypso synth pop

Let me tell you a story. At the beginning of this year, I was at a music camp, and we had a movie night at the camp. We watched David Byrne's American Utopia, and, well ... it blew my mind. Every moment of it was just so impactful. His lyrics were so simple, yet so meaningful. I knew one song, "Road to Nowhere," which he closed with. I'd already gone from being ambivalent towards the song to liking it, but it was only that night that I started loving it. I knew all the words, though, and sung along loudly. "Road to Nowhere" is such a classic. It's almost as good as it gets .... but only almost, because there was another song I heard that night, a song which I'd never heard before, that moved me even more. It was an a cappella vocal arrangement piece that, judging from the lyrics, I think was probably called "Better Days" (I didn't even look it up afterwards .... I can't believe myself!). It had tears streaming down my face. Anyway, as you're probably aware, neither of those songs are on this album. In fact, I'm not even sure if "Better Days" is a Talking Heads song (I'm thinking it might be a solo song of Byrne). Even though I had been meaning to get into Talking Heads ever since, I never ended up listening to any of their music. So I was really happy when this album was recommended to me. I wouldn't say I was wowed by the album, but I did enjoy parts of it. Their style is very unusual and can take a little getting used to for me. It can seem simplistic on the surface but when you dig deep, there's actually a lot going on. For me, the bassist is the absolute star of this album. I really appreciate creative bass playing, and the bass here is as innovative as it comes. To be honest, I don't know if I've ever heard bass this unusual, or interesting, or dynamic. Of course, Byrne is also great. Having watched his American Utopia, of course, it isn't surprising how much presence he has. But it's still incredible. I also just really like his voice. He's got this dramatic, operatic style that I have a tendency to really enjoy in singers, but never strikes me as too pretentious either. I just think that, while they felt brilliant in American Utopia, here, his lyrics feel like they were what had the least effort put into them. Not all his lyrics, though, mind you. And I'm well aware he does the "deceptively simple" thing and I might just be missing the point ... but there were several songs on here that just felt like uninspired love/sex songs. Of the type that too many rock bands on this list do. I'll use this, however, to segue into the fact that I did recognise at least one song from American Utopia. "Don't Worry About The Government" was one of my favourite songs in the movie. It's a perfect example of the "deceptively simple" thing I mentioned above. Is it satire? I think it is, although I'm not entirely certain. Either way, there's something weirdly moving about how detached the lyrics are. Come to think of it, I actually enjoyed most of the songs, although some only for the bass. The ones where I enjoyed the lyrics too were my favourites, though, because I'm a lyrics person ... and also because the bass was usually still great on them. I remember liking the song "No Compassion," which explored some interesting lyrical themes. I feel obliged to talk about "Psycho Killer," since it was the hit. What a weird song. I can't for the life of me figure out what it's about, but it's still a whole lot of fun. A whole lot of mindless, iconic fun. I sure hope there are more Talking Heads albums on their list. This album alone isn't enough for me to want to do a deep dive into their catalogue just yet, but I still want to hear more of their music and see how they progress. As this is only their first, I have a feeling they get, well, fa fa fa fa fa fa fa fa far better. Favourite tracks: Don't Worry About The Government, No Compassion

Definitely an album that broke down barriers for rock. Psycho Killer is an all time classic but the rest was a bit forgettable. Essential tracks: Psycho Killer (added to playlist)

Good, enjoyed it, "Psycho killer" was the highlight for me.

Liked a good chunk of the tunes. 7/10

I enjoyed this album. The lyrics and 70s style sound were pleasantly entertaining.

sounds a lot better than their other album. better constructed sound that works well. some catchy beats not necessarily a huge fan of the lyrics but they at least sounded good with the music. actually enjoyed some tracks. listened to the last track twice accidentally and didnt mind at all.

p382. 1977. 3.5 stars Musically there's lots to like here - new wave meets dance - but I can't be doing with David Byrne's voice, he sounds like he has a hernia. On the plus side, its short. Bonus point for Psycho Killer.

Energising tunes accompanied by interesting lyrics. Fun music whilst dancing, cooking or cleaning.

Good bops, but a lot of meh

Very fun, I love the vibe. Not necessarily me but I liked it

‘Uh-Oh Love Comes to Town’ maybe set the bar too high as a first song, I was ready to announce a 5 straight away. That being said it’s a high 3, the whole album was enjoyable and whilst some songs were less memorable or the vocals got a bit grating it was still one I’d listen to again.

Nejlepší písničky: Who Is It?, Psycho Killer, Sugar On My Tongue Nejhorší písničky: vše ostatní, co mě nijak nezaujalo Hodnocení: 7/10

Good, I know the album well. But I do feel I need to be in the mood for Talking Heads. Which I wasn't.

no le pude prestar atencion , pero solo conozco psico killer jeje, parece tener buen sonido

it's a nice album... music sounds good.. but it left absolutely zero impression on me. I don't even know how to rate it. three, i think... psycho killer is good but the acoustic is better. i can't remember any other song and they all sounded samey to me.

Let's be real, everyone only really knows Psycho Killer by Talking Heads and everything else is supplementary. All honesty, if it wasn't for how popular that song is, there wouldn't be that nostalgia that there is for them. Despite this Talking Heads 77 is a decent debut, with the sound of Brit Rock/New Wave, whilst being an American band. Best: Psycho Killer Worst: First Week/Last Week… Carefree Note: Spotify only had the Deluxe Version, I listened to the original 11 tracks from the album

Pretty decent early new wave/art-punk album. Nothing too memorable besides Psycho Killer, though.

Not really my thing

Not bad, but not great.

I like Talking Heads, I really do. However, during the fifth song, I thought “wow, the first track on this album is very long”. So there’s that.

I respect the vibes I just don’t exactly like them

Would have been a 4 if they didn't sound...nah I'm not going to say it.

25.05.2023

I wish I liked Talking heads more. Psycho Killer is a banger. But a lot of this was good, but same sounding.

This doesnt sound like a 70s album. There's no electronic like in later releases, but the whole album is undeniably Talking Heads. That said, the band has never struck a chord with me directly. I appreciate how good their sound is, but there isn't much making me want to listen again.

Lots of interesting things going on here but ultimately a little to experimental for my taste. Psycho Killer is great of course but nothing else really lived up to my expectations.

I wasn't a big fan of this album The vocals didn't sit right on the songs in my opinion and most songs felt really awkward But there were some good guitar and bass playing all throughout the record

Psycho Killer is the star of this album. The rest is good too. :) Brian Eno became a fan and became involved with the talking heads. I definitely see a correlation between the two of them. A level of brilliance that isn't appreciated by the average music listener. 3/5

Oprócz Psycho Killer nic się nie wyróżnia.

Not my favourite Talking Heads album - the only highlight is the classic "Psycho Killer".

No matter how legendary and innovative this group was, this album I’m afraid just doesn’t carry into 2023 that well. Sounds very basic with no real high points.

On their fourth album on this list, Talking Heads offer little new but give us more of the same which is entertaining and decent rock pop with electronic influences

3/5 I didn't find this album as difficult to listen to as the first one we had. I kind of liked the weird vaguely Mexican sounding stuff in First Week/Last Week... Carefree. I kinda liked Psycho Killer but that's a hit so I don't know if that counts. I feel like they were trying to be British Punk in some ways but failed.

Ehh. Funky and a bit whiney but I made it through. Not a massive fan and hoping that there aren't a load more Talking Heads albums yet to come. Average but not bloated, I survived.

I haven't listened to this album in a long time. From memory, I perceived this album as very good. It didn't quite sell me this time around. There is Uh-Oh and Psycho, and a couple of other decent tracks, but the filler is weak and plentiful. Definitely an epic first release, but the Taking Heads are gonna do better in the future.

I thought I would like this more than I did. Deffo see the influence on other bands. Some of it reminded me of Sams Town by the Killers. Few standouts but not enough. Just scraped a 3

Not bad. Prior to listening, I was only familiar with the track: "Psycho Killer;" I think after listening, there's a couple that are worth revisiting.

Not bad, but not my favourite talking heads. It doesn't have as many creative ideas as their best albums

its ok

Cat: funny this followed Devo- similar but not at all! More poppy, but the songs don’t really stick out at all. They kinda happen and then they end. But I still love the groove. Don’t Worry About the Government 100% makes me think of my dad. He knows all the words. AJ: Talking Heads and Devo. Art kids. Visual bands I’d imagine. Last two songs on this album are awesome. Seems for me, with the Heads, that I love the songs I love and really have no use for anything I haven’t heard. Spotify went into And She Was after this ended and I was way less worked up (lol) and so happy it was on. Stop Making Sense and a few other gems and I’m good. Like them much more than Devo, not saying much. Just sound better to me. I like what I like. The rest kinda pisses me off. Lol

Textbook debut album - the pieces are there but not yet aligned, the songs are callow and not fully formed. Singles are great, the rest are a work in progress and pretty interchangeable. Amazing how much better they got so quickly

Mye bra, mye dårlig..

This album is great but some songs are fa-fa-fa-fa, fa-fa-fa-fa-fa-fa, better than others.

Psycho Killer best song on the album by a fair bit.

A classic, but I’ve never been a Talking Heads fan

The irreverance and sass that is The Talking Heads comes through clearly on this debut album. Maybe not their best but decidedly a warning shot across the bow of the music world for what was to come.

I like Talking Heads songs, but a whole album is a lot

Was ok kinda folky rocky

I enjoy Psycho Killer, but don’t know that this is album I’d want to go back to on repeat.

This album felt like a let loose, be free, experimental experience with a nostalgic undertone. It may be the time it was recorded, but it sounds live. I could definitely see this being popular among a cult of people since the 70s.

Great band, early album

I feel like we have been listening to a lot of repeats of artists lately. I know many bands and musicians have a huge body of work which can evolve and diversify through time. But sometimes I need more time and distance between listens. I don’t want to write a repeat critique and say exactly what I said about Talking Heads last time although I feel exactly the same. When I have nothing to say, my lips are sealed Say something once, why say it again? I love the singles, I would have been very happy with a best of album. But I just found this wearisome, and was only energised when it got to psycho killer. Fa-fa-fa-fa, fa-fa-fa-fa-fa-fa, better Run, run, run, run, run, run, run away, oh-oh-oh!

It pains me to go with a 3-star rating for this album. I really do like it better than that, and considering this is the band's debut, it's impressive to hear how fully realized they are as a unit. All the elements are there, and David Byrne's weird vocalizations and insights and lyrics are arty and odd and set the stage for his long career as a music innovator. And the rest of the band — Weymouth, Frantz, and Harrison — are fantastic. They don't get the credit they deserve by casual fans But... it's a little much, taken as a whole. Each track is pretty fantastic on its own, and "Psycho Killer" is just a flat-out awesome tune. Still, with all those accolades, this one sits somewhere between a 3 and a 4 for me, and I was leaning lower as the album progressed. So, not a star rating that aligns with my respect for the album and the band, but there it is.

Had the song Psycho Killer in my head all weekend, so I'm going to give this one a little higher rating.

Great album start to finish.

3rd star is for psycho killer

Psycho killer... Cat Café.... Pspspsps. That video totally ruined the song for me as I can only think about the cat variant even though I've listened to Psycho killer so many times before. To be honest Talking Heads have never been a favorite of mine as it's not my type of rock. They sure are talented and I like some of their songs but there's something with the style of playing and David Byrne's distinct type of singing that doesn't do it for me. Back to the single Psycho Killer. It's got one of the best bass lines and is overall a 5/5 song but the rest of the songs doesn't come close.

Well it's has certified K town banger psycho killer on it so I want to rate high. But I have to say this was a bit heavy on the jaunty slightly surreal songs that I don't really get into with Talking heads. Despite being a big fan of course and I absolutely love loads of their stuff. Wasn't blown away by this one

Not my favorite talking heads but we all need a beginning

Pretty strong effort for a debut album. Not a bad listen at all.

Heureusement Psycho Killer. Une production encore simple et facile. La suite sera différente.

Ayayayayay

Altijd fijn die pratende hoofden!

Not my favorite

Not the one i like

Talking Heads' entire catalog is great! Remain in Light is a masterpiece. I recognize the critical hype of Talking Heads: 77 and have a hard time accepting it as more than 3.5 stars. I try to listen as if I was exposed to this in 1977, amd think that it was a "you had to be there" moment. Good for a casual listen.

it's above average. Psycho Killer is a classic. 3/5

Psycho Killer is one of the best Talking Heads songs ever, and probably a top 100 alternative rock song. From the bonus songs: I Wish You Wouldn't Say That was on the Revenge of the Killer Bee's album I had in the 1980s, so that songs is a memorable one for me for that. The rest of the album is good and if you are a real talking heads fan I am sure this is classic. For me, just getting to know it - I think it is good enough to keep listening to.

Psycho Killer is a 1 star song, rest is decent.

This is not my beautiful Talking Heads

Psycho Killer, Uh-Oh love Comes to Town, The Book I Read

Early Talking Heads.....Disco Killer....not bad

3.5 out of 5. A grower for sure. 3 or 4 very good tracks, including the classic Psycho Killer.

Album is quite experimental; I enjoy the switching of key signatures. Knowing only a little about the Talking Heads, I did think this album fits their style quite well.

This is a good band. There is in this album the hit "Psycho Killer".

This was an interesting one for me; I consider myself a huge Talking Heads fan, but also their big deal albums for me all come from their middle/later years, like Remain in Light onward. So even having grown up with their stuff around, I never really checked out their earliest offerings.

Psycho killer is good. The other songs didn't convince me to vote higher. Don't love it, don't hate it.

Listens: 1 Enjoyed: yeah

I always want to like Talking Heads albums more than I ever end up liking them.

Fine. Better than most new wave bullshit. Interesting, melodic. Not their best.

I think this is their first album regardless, psycho killer is the only legit song

Remain in light was better

If you didn't know better you would assume this was just some bad karaoke. Oh David 🙄

This is not exactly as strong as some of their later albums; but it’s stills quite an impressive start! Byrne is still in the progress of really finding himself, but you still get occasional glimpses of why he’s one of the greatest front figures in music; “Psycho Killer” is the perfect example of that. The rest of the material is pretty solid as well but the distinct expressiveness of Talking Heads still needs that finish polish before they (only a few years later) emerges as a world class act. I’m starting to repeat myself so I’ll let Byrne have the last word: “Say something once, why say it again?”

not their best

Top 3 Songs: 1 - Psycho Killer (9) 2 - New Feeling (2) 3 - Pulled Up (10)

entirely forgettable, but not in an actively bad way

Qu’est-ce que c’est? Interesting album, almost early ou k but kinda weird.

Cool band with a unique sound.

It was fun at first but by the end I was bored. Album cover: 2/5

It was ok, the album seems pretty progressive for it's time but the music was not really my cup of tea

I only ever listened to individual songs from The Talking Head and never a whole album. So this was kinda new to me. Good Album. Some songs are better than others but all in all pretty solid. And of course, everyone knows “Psycho Killer”. Favorite Songs: “Psycho Killer”, “No Compassion”, “Uh-Oh, Love Comes To Town”

This album is fine for Headheads. Psycho Killer is a hot tune. Everything else is just kind of forgettable. Maybe worth a relisten?

It was ok. Did not love it

Really not into the Talking Heads. Psycho Killer saves this one from 2 stars.

I definitely want to give this album a second listen as I think it has some potential. The song Psycho killer I've heard before and is so catchy and easily the best song on the album.

A bit dated, so-so

Sounds like pop, but then I need to remember to time travel to when it came out... Before alternative existed and that this was at the birth of alt pop

Enjoyable while painting! Psycho killer is banging!

I thought I would like this more, but the songs all sound a little too the same. Some good stuff in there though.

Nothing particularly ear-catching, other than Psycho Killer.

Another solid TH album, but each one leaves me wanting a little more. 3.5/5

just average - do love Talking Heads though

First listen: every song feels nice, no boring parts. gonna listen again with a bit more attention. second listen: A bit simple, maybe a tad boring after all. Still a pleasent listen.

It's ok, bit low key and even if I can like a lot of it, it feels a bit off to me.

I guess this was funny in 1977

Talking Heads are an acquired taste and one that I have not acquired yet. Good songs, well produced, but the vocal style distracts more than it contributes. The stand out track is the well known Psycho Killer with none of the others really distinguishing themselves.

Zitten leuke tracks bij.

- Uh, Oh Loves Comes to Town - No Compassion - The Book I Read - Psycho Killer - Pulled Up

Easy to listen to.

Less chaotic than the other Talking Heads album. I didn't know they were from the 70s.

Não é muito do que costumo ouvir

Generic

Psycho killer uitblinkertje

Vekkulin hilpee ja pirtee yllätys

Nice background noise. Like Cake, this guy can't really sing, but talks fast and makes it work with the music.

Not their best

One of the favourite albums of my ‘20’s. “Psycho Killer” remains magnificent but I’m afraid much of the rest hasn’t aged well.

Extraordinarily OK.

Inventive and interesting but too fraught for my taste.

Nice, I though I was not going to like it but it was good

Has the Talking Heads quirkiness but lacks the exploration from post-pun/funk into the African rhythms that makes their 'Remain in Light' absolutely fantastic. Additionally, while it is a lyrically interesting album, it doesn't have the diversity of Remain in Light and therefore ultimately, it is just a decently good album.

A good band, not exactly the music that enchant me but w/good songs.

Most of this album was pretty meh to me. It picked up a bit in the second half, and psycho killer is a banger, but overall not super into it.

Wacky weird fun. Talking Heads are one of those bands you like but don't know why. Well worth a listen.

I liked this album less than remain in light.

Not a fan, maybe this is for people that listen more.

reminds me of halloween for some reason

Not my favourite Talking Heads album, but still really like it. Poppy without being overly pop. Great band, and love David Byrne's voice and delivery.

Enjoyable enough but pales in comparison to some of their 80s work.

Solid art-punk, new wave, dance rock, 70’er

Pretty good, definitely a nice, different sound. Really interesting sound, but no really great songs (don't love Psycho Killer).

I love David Byrne and talking heads but this is one of the lesser albums of the band. Still good and psycho killer is still great but the later albums are much better

Está "Psycho Killer" y ya está. Eso justifica este disco entero. También me gustó "Don't worry about the government" y en general se deja escuchar todo pero quedan eclipsadas por el temazo.

OK - nothing amazing, was never that bothered about them and this doesn't change things

Quite enjoyable, half of the songs are good to great and the rest are meh. Psycho Killer is a classic, Uh-Oh Love Comes To Town was a great opener and The Book I Read had a smooth groove. Middle of the road for this list.

Love Talking Heads, some decent listening on here with a couple of classics

Never really been a Talking Heads fan.

Better than I remember, but quite repetitive

The finest day I ever had was when I realized I don't have to like Talking Heads.

Good listen

Gave up halfway through. Just not my thing. Liked Psycho Killer.

Not my favorite Talking Heads. David Byrne’s voice gets a bit old by the end of this. But I do really recommend giving Psycho Killer a listen.

I found this album easy to listen to, but all the tracks tended to blend into one really long song for me. Other than 'Psycho Killer' which is my favourite from the album, none of them really jumped out at me

more like 3.5

As offbeat as I expected from Talking Heads. (Psycho Killer yelling) 5/10

Not bad

Psycho Killer is an absolute hit. The rest of the songs are alright. It is better than a 3 but not a 4.

nothing to write home about

Cool 6/10

End and flows nicely, some great tracks on this and some average one but overall a really good record that I would revisit

This one is pretty good. Lots of good songs. Good guitar playing. There's really not much to say, its another generic 70s/80s rock album

Decent

Slightly on the repetitive side, but with such fun, spontaneous energy on each track that’s hardly a problem. The instrumentation could be a bit more varied on each track, but for its time this LP still shines.

Typical Talking Heads sound. Quite enjoyable for a Sunday afternoon. 3*

It was OK. Not really into this sort of stuff usually. Was heading for two stars but I spent most of Sunday singing Psycho Killer so I'm going to say its sneaked a three.

Talking Heads 77 It's like, really groovy? Nice guitar riffs. Lyrics make no sense. Kitschy songs like Don't Worry about the government is meh Highlight songs: The book I read, Psycho Killer

Psychokiller what a banger

Very different to Remain In Light and that's perfectly fine. I liked it.

I still like Talking Heads and David Byrne. This is their weakest album by far. It’s really hard to fully experience the “punk rebellion” of certain albums when you’re too separated from what they were upending (70s pop, in this case). I realize that our kids won’t really see some of our music as revolutionary for the same reason.

It's ok but a bit too hysterical at times. Some classics of course though.

Not my favorite talking heads album but has some good songs

Was good, but not good enough for me to really remember the music at the time of writing this review

Absolute Bops with absolutely terrible lyrics

First ever Talking Heads album for me, even though I've listened to Psycho Killer a billion times. Still not sure if I love or hate David Byrnes vocals, but I found myself enjoying it anyway. Love -> Building On Fire was a fave.

I feel like I would have enjoyed this album more if I was a university student in the late 70s. The album would have sounded fresh and new and doing all kinds of things never heard before. But now, more than 40 decades on, there is so much baggage. Case in point, as dope as "Psycho Killer" is, the song was ruined for me when a fellow told me about how he and his friends would always sing "psycho chicken" and how hilarious that was. Also, as far as Talking Heads albums goes, surely Stop Making Sense is better?

Good, mix of tracks, yeah ok.

Love their reggae/dub influence

that one single is okay

Kind of an average album. Talking Heads haven't really hit their stride yet. Highlights: 1, 2, 5, 8, and 10.

Rating: 6/10 Best songs: Psycho killer, Sugar on my tongue

Fun album. Clearly influenced a lot of what came out in the 80's.

This is absolute gold. I love his voice and love how you can hear every lyric, it cuts through. And he does some really interesting quirky sounds in his voice. he just drops them in there. However you can tell its early talking heads and a lot of the songs sound very similar

eh - exactly what I expected from the Talking Heads

Sozzy is going to hate me for this but 3 stars. It’s not their best work hence only one of the songs appearing on the “Stop Making Sense” set. Their sound hasn’t matured into their iconic “banger factory” just yet in this album. Psycho Killer aside of course.

I expected much more from this. They've so many great songs that I figured their debut must have been a banger but most of the songs were just....meh. And a couple I never want to hear again - Uh-oh Love with the Carribbean steelpan sound, or Tentative Decisions with the soldier rat-a-tat drum. But David Byrne's voice goes a long way, and it's interesting to listen to their first album knowing what's to come. Just not interesting enough for me to listen to again.

Other then psycho killer, the album was pretty average.

3/5 would be less if Psycho Killer wasn’t on it

Kinda good and enjoyable. Easy to listen to.

Never listened to the Talking Heads outside of the hits.

Exactly what youd expect from the Talking Heads, relatively enjoyable.

It was OK. Though, to be fair, this isn't the first time I've given Talking Heads a shot. They're kinda not my jam. That's cool though. I see what people see in them.

God bless David Byrne and his weird pop music. This one for me, it's all just a lead up to Psycho Killer, but it's also a bunch of happy-sounding pop with weird darkness under it, so I'm game.

Excellent instrumentation and some really fun tracks. Vocals aren't my cup of tea, though.

Some great stuff and some very annoying stuff.

I used to listen to a lot of Talking Heads and David Byrne, and still do from time to time, although much more focused on their later stuff. So inventive, so intriguing in so many ways, and often times quite catchy and fun. This is their debut album and I hadn't really listened to it in full before. It was good to read the Wikipedia article on it, too. It mentions how friendly they were with Lou Reed and how he gave them some advice. I definitely hear some Velvet Underground/Lou Reed-esque vibes in here (I have a feeling we'd say that about a lot of the 70s CBGB's bands). I can also hear how at this point in their career they could've pushed their sound into the punk scene or more into the pop/rock space, which is where they pretty much went (both genres are great; no judgment intended). This is good stuff; really quite good when I remember this is their very first album (hey, it's got 'Psycho Killer,' a rather iconic song).

Schade eigentlich).

just plods along being fairly inoffensive or captivating and then BANG. suddenly one of the best songs ever written powers out. Psycho Killer really does save this album.

Good tunes

It was ok - nothing really blew me away though

2.5 - 3 / 5 it's ok

Classic debut again! New Wave is born in a massive suit. Best Tracks: Uh-Oh Love Comes To Town, Psycho Killer, Pulled Up

The guys voice is weird. Hard to take him seriously. Psycho killer is redeeming tho

They set the precedent for music

Talking Heads. No one sounds like them. Psycho Killer!

"Psycho Killer" is obviously a classic, but overall not their best *album*.

It was like fine, I don’t know that I could understand all the words and I felt like I was my mom listening to my music but it wasn’t a bad time one might say
