Reviews (page 12 of 13)

Oh Neil.

The last 3 songs of the album were good, the rest of the album was not good in my opinion

I'm not big on Neil Young. But I do enjoy "My My, Hey Hey" and "Hey Hey, My My"

Having listened quite my share of Crosby Stills Nash & Young and Neil Young's Havest in my days, I was surprised to have absolutely no love for this album. One listening of this album is enough for me today as I even have too much of Neil's voice.

Did not like it this slow kind of music is not for me

I think I get it why it has been so popular. But I find it actually quite boring. Then I even made the effort to listen and read some lyrics. And I think it matches perfectly to the music…

⭐⭐ – – – 1[.8] of 5 stars. It's okay. A lot of the same guitar work all the way through, with not a lot of variation. It just didn’t do much for me. Plus it's the second Neil Young I've gotten in a row. I saw a review that said "If you're not really a fan of Neil Young before, you probably won't enjoy this one," and I feel that's the case for me.

YOU HAVE GOT TO BE SHITTING ME. Rating - 2/5. > fuqqqq you for real and you can tell him i said that. This guys voice PMO and now he is my biggest opp cus we got 2 shitass albums from this guy in a row. Thrasher wasnt HORRIBLE. Its so slow i cant do this can we plz hurry up. Like the lyrics and stuff arent bad i just dislike the music and singing. Ride My Llama is a sick title ill give him that. Why did he pronounce “llama” like that tho. HIS VOICE IS SO ANNOYING IF WE GET ANOTHER NEIL YOUNG ALBUM IM GONNA KILL SOMEONE😊. Powderfinger has good instrumental. I liked the guitar on Welfare Mothers. Sedan Delivery had good instrumental too. Also will give him props cus the opening track and closing track are matching. >thumbs up: Idk tbh…. Welfare mothers💩

Not my thing really- too masculine, too many sailing and hunting metaphors, too many harmonicas. Wouldn't turn it off if it came on, won't turn it on again

Didnt love it

Meh, no es lo mío, al menos este disco

Neil Young 😴

mix of two different albums, one more acoustic, one more metallic-rock.

it's absolutely not my type of music. Such a dull thing, not for me. Sedan Delivery – the best here

not terrible, but not my thing at all and not something i'd go out of my way to listen to. i don't have much to say about this album, i just didn't enjoy it all that much.

I appreciate Neil but I’m very much only surface level fan. I think the center of it for me is that what is its strength of showing Neil’s comfort in being able to handle a wide spectrum of genres, is a weakness for me. He and the band jump from grungy rock to acoustic and a lot of genres in between. And that strikes me that I may have the weakness and need more time with this release for its critically acclaimed status to wash over me. Or not. Having said that my favorite cuts are “My My, Hey Hey (both versions) and “Sail Away”. Since most of the album left me cold I give this a 2 out of 5 stars.

Second album avec NY, le premier étant 'After The Gold Rush' (2/5). =>2/5

didn’t get round to this on the day as i couldn’t give an album a respectable amount of space works well in the space of a relaxing gap before work but may need to relisten for it to grow on me

Neil Young makes another appearance on the list for an album that's good for its content but not his best. Plus it's part "live" with tracks from other albums so I have a hard time with these as must listeners. I still liked it it but lower rankings for these concert albums. Young hasn't burn out as he is still touring and putting out new material...he may fade a way though...2.0.

Mixed reviews for Rust Never Sleeps for me. This album started out promising with a great opening track. Neil sticks to the solo acoustic sound for the rest of the first half which isn't groundbreaking but is still effective. His style is tried and tested and while Rust Never Sleeps isn't his best work, Side A is still another example of why he should be recognized as one of the greats. I was surprised how unimpressed I was by Crazy Horse and the entirety of side B. Overall I found it to be very generic filler that I think weakened the overall experience. It's hard not to feel like Neil Young has too much representation on this list. He's an amazing musician, and I love a ton of his music but some of the entries are a real stretch for something I needed to hear before I die. Nothing against Neil, but a few of his albums should be removed/replaced on this list. Rust Never Sleeps is fine, but overall nothing special. 1.95 stars

It’s ok.

Neil Young‘s voice is a taste I have not yet acquired.

I liked the contrast of the two sides (acoustic vs country rock), but Neil’s voice really got on my nerves.

I've always found Neil Young's voice to be annoying, but the instrumentals were good enough to avoid a 1-star

I have lost my taste for Neil young.

This album was alright. That’s about it for me. I could see where someone who grew up with Neil would see this album as a triumph, but for me it sounded like a lot of other albums from the time like Mountain, late career Grand Funk RR or Guess Who. The second version of Hey Hey My My was different than I’d heard on classic rock radio (the first version), being electric and crunchy. Overall, there was nothing that grabbed me, and you know how much I like being grabbed 🤣

FAVO: My My, hey Hey, Welfare mothers,

The album opens strong with My My Hey Hey. And then the next few songs feel a little samey. I am mixed on folk music, and really like artists like Dylan and Cat Stevens , but most of this album feels weak with some pretty bland tunes. Welfare Mothers and Sedan Delivery have a better sound, but bizarre lyrics. 2

An album of two half’s both of which failed to ignite. Is he singing out of tune on the last song?

I’m quite fond of some Neil Young, Harvest/After the Gold Rush are both on regular rotation…..but this isn’t on my the same level

My default stance is one of loathing when it comes to Neil Young, but I may yet come round.

No es realmente mi gusto, hubo buenas ideas y cosas en el disco pero no es algo que escucharia otra vez

A bit of a whiny voice. Some nice chord progressions and the vibe is ok but not really my thing.

The only thing interesting about this album is whether the lyrics of Welfare Mothers or the extraordinarily bad attempt at punk rock on Sedan Delivery is more cringe-inducing. Good Lord; enough with Neil Young! I’ve heard 4-guitar suburban dad garage bands that are more engaging than this. Enough already.

Has its moments (first and last songs). Can't say much good about the rest

listened to his song Farmer John again. much better than this album

I like this more intellectually than when I actually listen to it. Cool album that I don't like all that much. Too low on musicality for my delicate sensibilities.

It’s fine. I still don’t get the Neil Young fuss.

Just not my jam.

it’s okay

It's okay. Couldn't listen to everything all the way through.

This is the second of seven Neil Young albums on this list - at least he's back on spotify which made it easier to listen to this time! My impression is he is overrated - 7 albums from one artist seems like overkill! I didn't mind the last track

at least it was short

It's alright, but its no Harvest Moon. Neil Young itches that bit of old school folkish vibe in my brain, but I do find his voice to be a bit grating after a while.

OK, this is album #5 by this dude. Promised I wouldn't listen to another after #4. I did and nothing changes my opinion that this guy is one the most overrated musical artist I've ever heard. Happy this was only 35 minutes. 2

Same Ol Neil Young....one great song, one that puts ya to sleep. Altho this album was more sleepy than up.

Not for me

Pretty boring

I'm a moderate Neil Young fan. I enjoy him in small doses. Listening to this album, I enjoyed the production, performances, and the music. However, I get tired of his whiny voice and self-righteous musings. Not his best stuff.

Started off okay, My My Hey Hey was good, gave me sad girl vibes which is always enjoyable but the rest of the album so was boring that I started dissociating and didn't really pay any attention to the rest of it. It felt quite disjointed and more like a bunch of rag tag songs that were just thrown together to fill the time. Tried to give it another listen this morning and ended up dissociating instead again. Unfortunately for me my brain decided to start paying attention again during Pocahontas which is totally my fault for having the ability to hear because what the actual hell were those lyrics?? Off-putting enough that I promptly removed the album from my search history so that I never have to be reminded of it again. Did I hate it enough to give it a 1? No, it wasn't an awful album to listen to, it just lacked any personality. If I could give it a 1.5 I would but alas

This album was really hard to listen to for me, I found it REALLY BORING. I didn't manage to finish.

Pretty good. Definitely more grungy than what is typical from Neil Young.

Not really familiar with Neil Young beyond "A Horse with No Name." Usually when a singer sounds like a muppet that's a plus for me, but I couldn't really get into Rust Never Sleeps. Seems like there is some good lyric work though.

Snooze then suddenly WOW for those last three songs. Favourite track: Welfare Mothers.

My My, Hey Hey is incredible but my god I can't stand Neil Young albums please make them stop.

Pas l fou

That's a no from me, dawg. My My, Hey Hey addresses the fleeting beauty of mortality, but I think Kansas did it better. I can tell that the guitar work is good, but the music feels thin and without substance. After more listening, I've determined that there aren't enough moving parts. There's no bass! The album sounds bare because there are fewer hands and instruments in the recording booth. All in all, this is not my bag. It's interesting because the album has a comfortable and predictable tempo that underscores some less-than-comfortable concepts like Pocahontas and mortality. Academically, it's cool. Practically, I don't find the music very entertainment and Young's ponderings area drop of water in an ocean of philosophy, art, and novelty.

This album is mid - love the songs I know hate the songs I don’t.

I never want to hear another Neil Young album in my life. It's absurd that he has >10 slots on this list of 1001 albums and only ~75 albums have been added from between 2001 and 2021. 2/5.

I just can’t get into Neil Young, his vocals ruin any song for me. This project sure wants to give me more and more chances to change my mind…

Incredibly boring. First half is the same song with a minimum of variation, but the album gets slightly better as it goes on. Would be an uninspired 3, but I hate his voice, and whatever he was trying to do with the solo in powderfinger.

Was pretty meh about this one

This started strong and I preferred the fact that it was a live album instead of a studio. But as this went on it fell off hard for me. The experimental guitar on the back-half helps salvage something positive.

So tiring

5/10 2 first songs goat.

#249. Neil Young is back on Spotify? Seems money was more important than his morals after all. Typical. I might have given this a 3 previously, but I think I'll give it one less now just because the man can't even stick to his own principles. 2/5: pretentious twat.

This has 2 things I’m not a fan of: live albums and Neil Young.

i thought the live tracks were a lot better than the studio recorded ones. my my, hey hey (out of the blue) was i think the best track... and then it sort of petered out from there

Idk what it is but this genre makes me suicidal

this made me bored and sad

There are a few tracks on here that are ok, but I don’t ever think that I could settle into a “I’m listening to Neil Young” mood.

it was alright while it was on

Objectively good but 100% not my vibe

After crying about receiving yet another Neil Young album I met with an understanding support group who listened to me vent, and then shared their own thoughts on Neil and this album. I finally felt strong enough to give this a chance, and you know what? I didn’t hate it! I know this list won’t stop until my body is covered in Neil Young tattoos and that frightens me; however, for now I can only go as far as saying this album was fine.

My My Hey Hey is pretty okay, except for the harmonica. I still really don’t enjoy Young’s voice. The music is nice, lyrics are interesting. Just wish someone else was singing, and that I could take a sledgehammer to that fucking harmonica. I have the same issue with Bob Dylan. I wish I could stand more than five minutes of his singing. But, like Dylan, it’s just too whiny and does my head in. Like, who told him to sing? Why? Can’t take it anymore. Bailing.

More Neil Young thingy story telling? No ta.

DNF. Irwie nett im Hintergrund aber hat mich jetzt nicht weggehauen

Predictably, I like the parts that lean more rock, like Powderfinger. Sedan Delivery has some catchy guitars but the vocals aren't working for me. Hey Hey My My (Into the Black) opens with a surprisingly heavy, grimy riff. On relisten, the solo acoustic stuff has some merit but Neil's voice is keeping it from being good. I do like the bookending of My My Hey Hey and Hey Hey My My though. ** 1/2

Add Neil Young to my list of "singer/songwriters" who should just stick to writing songs. 2 stars

A couple of good songs but for the most part it meanders to nowhere.

aburridoooo

I enjoyed this less than the other stuff of Neil Young's I've listened to

Not a big fan. Also it seemed racist?

It's all right, but nothing to write home about. A bit boring, really, with one or two better moments. I guess if you're a big Neil Young fan, it's a nice addition of songs.

Back to mediocrity. Not my thing

Tråkigt

Starts off, “Rock and roll can never die!” Then proceeds to not “rock and roll”. Ugh I was just not feeling this, especially in my post nc state win bliss. Listened to 2.5 songs then turned off. “Stop trying to make Neil Young happen. It’s never going to happen” - Mean Girls (Pete Ciaccio)

The first few songs felt like good singer-songwriter folk blues type music to me (reminded me of JCF). The Pocahontas song was straight up troll. Would never fly today.

The Neil Young burnout from this list is real. And whether it’s his solo work or a band he’s affiliated with, this is the worst of what we’ve listened to so far. There wasn’t much that caught my attention and it’s weird to hear a live album that cuts out pretty much all of the crowd noise. I’m sure we’ll have some more Neil Young, hopefully the rest are better.

Neil Young feels like Bob Dylan with a G.E.D.

Can see why he's famous. His vocals jut out of the ocean of electric guitars like an iceberg. Especially when his lyrics get trippy, it's a real delight. Still not really my thing, so dropping it in the default bucket: two stars.

Maybe the most generic album I've listened to. Powderfinger and Hey Hey, My My sounded so different (production wise) from the rest of the album that I thought I had changed artists. Not impressed.

Weird voice. Low integrity. This guy…

Is this another reason for me to be disappointed with Mr Young's output? Yes and no. It's infinitely better than the previous offerings served up on here, but it really wasn't until the last two songs that I started to enjoy it. That was probably due to the anachronistic 'grungy' Sound to those guitars. Well he is called the godfather of Grunge and with those songs you can see why. His singing sounded better with age too. So it gets a high 2

Nothing really standing out

I like how crunchy the plugged in stuff is. But Neil Young definitely falls into the shutup boomer file.

Classic rock. I know the title track, of course, and I'm a fan of a lot of Neil's music but I can't listen to this album on Spotify so it gets marked down a bunch out of irritation with Neil for his reactionary, anti-streaming BS.

I don't think I get Neil Young. I appreciate that he's an important figure in American music, and that the reputation is well earned, but so much of his most lauded music just hits me as "meh" or "huh?" Rust Never Sleeps is no different. "Thrasher" is a pretty song with a wistful, melancholy vibe. "Powderfinger" is pretty cool; an interesting narrative over an extended electric slow burn. Otherwise, I find this album dull and forgettable.

Generally not really impressed by Neil Young and I’m not sure why. Maybe because I never listened to him while I was young? Whiny voice? Lack of connection to music and lyrics? Possibly his super whiny voice? This is probably a good album but it didn’t do anything for me. Two and a half stars.

Just okay. At no point in the album did I think, "Hey he is doing something interesting here". Im also not sure if his high voice works for me or not. Sometimes I think its good and other times it doesnt work. Listening to this made me want to listen to James Taylor, who's music is far superior.

I don’t like his voice and I don’t like the harmonica and I’m not crazy about the writing, so at least the album was only 40 minutes. All the things that feel attributable to Crazy Horse were fine, loved the non harmonica playing, but then it’s topped off at every turn by some Neil Young to drive me away.

Not my style but not boring.

Pretty mediocre live album

Dude always sound like he's whining. I live with a 6 year old. I'm good.

Weak. It all sounds the same. Maybe better under the influence of mind-altering substances

Can't find on Spotify unfortunately so will never hear again probably. Nice rock album but somehow much of this genre sound very much alike and can't be distinguished from another.

- kinda not my vibe - kinda sus they're not native and just sing from that perspective :/

Not on Spotify

5/10 The guitars on the first and last tracks nearly saved it, but the singing is just so bad. Highlights: Hey Hey, My My My My, Hey Hey

Not for me. Too redundant, no variation in his voice. Just blah.

Ok, bit forgettable

got a bit better as it went on i think

cowboy music

Boring. Nothing too great about the album. Fine if they come on but don't feel like songs to sing along to.

Gotta be honest, hate that this isn’t on Spotify. Made it difficult to listen to straight through/get a feel for the album as a whole. While I already knew I found Neil Young’s voice annoying, I really like quite of few of his songs. I was surprised at how much his voice stuck out to me here and how much it diminished my enjoyment of this album. My My, Hey Hey and vice versa are good but the rest was a slog.

And now I know why I am not a big fan of Neil Young.

There must be a cultural significance behind the album that I am missing, (and am not going to look into). This is by no means a bad album. Fans of Young will enjoy the record. For me, objectively listening to this record for the first time without any background knowledge or adolescent nostalgia it was just a couple more Neil Young songs. ⭐️⭐️

Some ok songs on here but this Neil doesn’t do it for me.

Don’t love Neil’s voice. Pretty standard sounding.

please stop

Decent live album. Never been a huge fan of Neil Young, but decent album.

Had more as background noise. Worked okay as just that 2.5

Guapo, pero nada que me entusiasme especialmente. Pero podría ser el momento de escucha. 2.5/5 Destaca Hey Hey My My (into the black)

Probably the weakest Neil Young album I have heard. first and last tracks which are 2 different versions of the same song are good but the rest was quite dull.

Really enjoyed some of the song compositions, but I could not stop hating Neil Young's voice.

I just don't like Neil Young.

Folk-rock. 5/10

generally an average acoustic album, but partly arduous, especially in the beginning

Meh it was okay

never really taken to Neil Young , found his voice to be whiny. 4 songs in and I am not interested. I want to stop listening but this is the first day and the first album so I want to stay in the spirit of the project and finish it, but it's not changing my mind. Powderfinger and Sedan delivery are pretty good. Hey hey, my my black is going on the playlist, it's awesome. that's it, see you tomorrow

Eh, I didn't love it.

That harmonica is nails on a chalkboard

I was initially planning on not listening to this based on the cover, clearly a live album. But then I read the description and was intrigued by the melding of live and studio recordings. Even that piece of info didn't save this from just feeling like a regular mediocre album though. We've gotten a few Neil Young and Crazy Horse albums on here that were good to great, I think we don't need anymore.

Honestly pretty enjoyably

I just can't do country, and although Neil Young has other elements going for him, I just get little to no enjoyment from these tracks.

Not really my thing. It was somewhat suitable to have on in the background while I get ready for a folk punk show I guess

Just not a Neil Young fan I'm afraid. I like his guitar playing on some of these but that's it. Why's he got so many albums on this anyway

gibs net auf spotify

Not a fan of Neil Young anyways. Only one good song on this album, “My My, Hey Hey” rest is very forgettable. Would of been a 1 but that song bumped it to a 2. Can’t add to my Spotify playlist because Neil is a fucking Karen.

Kunde inte spelas -finns ej på spotify. Hittades på Youtube; lite långtråkig..

I continue to not get Neil Young. I like the idea of taking a live album and over dubbing it to sound better. But the songs will rule, and these songs don't.

A bit samey and his voice isn't the best. A couple of tracks were enjoyable, but as a whole I didn't really get much of a connection to the songs.

Here’s the thing. I don’t like Neil Young’s voice. It gets annoying quickly. The songs themselves are not too shabby, Powderfinger in particular was quite good, but his voice detracts from the songs. With the ideal singer this would be a 4, but with Mr. Young it’s a 2.

Verdict: Rust Sleeps. Sounds like it was made in a single dad’s garage with a band he hired off Craigslist. I could’ve listened to “The Second Time Around” by Frank Sinatra Jr on the Ed Sullivan Show at least 19 times instead of this, but f*** me, right? Not a big Neil Young fan on or off the pitch (his music is dull and he’s a self-righteous mega-millionaire). I’ll try to listen with an open mind, but I can’t forget that this guy is one of those Canadiens who come down here and then complain about everything and talk about how much worse USA is while making millions off playing a guitar. “Boo, Capitalism!”, “Reginald, would you please place my diamond encrusted male g-string in my left gold-plated dresser, not my right one? Gosh, I just love this green stuff. How do I keep getting so much of it?” This guy thought he was so special that when he didn’t like Joe Rogan’s podcast, he said to Spotify, “It’s Rogan or Young. Not both” so they decided that the 55 year old dads of the world were gonna have to go somewhere else for their music and removed Young’s entire catalogue. Oops Neil, how’s the ego after that one? I’m guessing still very much intact. Well, you’re still worth $200m, which if you are as righteous as you act, you could donate to charity. No? You’d rather put that money to the DNC? Okay, another cog in the political machine, fantastic. Thanks so much for this album today, and thank you even more for being such a caring hundred millionaire. This guy is so in love with himself that when he does eventually decide to be charitable, he holds a benefits concert. Rather than simply donating from his vast fortune, he holds an event where he’s praised for his musical prowess and generosity. How selfless Neil. Well, now that that’s all said, let’s get this puppy started. Your voice is as mediocre as I remember. Didn’t remember the harmonica fetish, and I don’t dig it. Stevie Wonder with a harmonica? F*** yeah! You? Drop the harmonica and come out with your hands up. I promise I’m listening unbiased and with an open mind: this is one of the most boring albums yet. It feels like it’s going in slow motion.

Not the greatest live album but tightly played. The two big singles are some of Young's weakest work. The punk influence is evident in the hard sound and heavy approach. It comes at the price of the meandering beauty from 10 years before, like Cortez the Killer and Down by the River.

I'd rather listen to The Princes of Bolton, AKA Kay, Kay, Nolan, McGuinness and Ainsworth belt out some Boyzone in a pub.

Suppose I don't like Neil Young very much? Maybe this will grow on me but this really isn't my jam... I simply thought everything was fine or worse. The production is fine, the song writing is fine, the instrumentation sounds fine, the vocals aren't as bad as some people think they are... Nothing stuck out, nothing inspired me to listen again.

I liked Pocahontas. The rest meh. Especially towards the end. Welfare Mothers is especially dire. Into the black is very good though. Never got Neil Young, tried many many times.

I'm going to try not to hold it against Mr. Young that I was required to listed to this record on YouTube, with intermittent advertisements, rather than cleanly on Spotify, solely because of his distaste for Joe Rogan. In a just world that is worth at least one star, it really sucks the energy out of Crazy Horse's performance to have some jackass from Liberty Mutual wax rhapsodic about a crotcheted dog backpack in between songs. I will also note that none of Gary Glitter's collected works has been removed, nor Billy Preston's, etc. (and I'm not sure they should be). I love Neil Young, but basically everything that works about his peak albums is missing here. "Deja Vu" is propelled by the beautiful vocal harmonies. "Harvest" has incredible sound quality, diverse instrumentation, and a few incredibly catchy singles. And "Everybody Knows This Is Nowhere" and "After the Gold Rush" have some of all of that, although not quite so abundantly. But this album just doesn't have those things. The title tracks are in my opinion dull, very simple and very coarsely produced, with no interesting harmonies (shouting "Johnny Rotten" in the background is funny but kind of mindless). And most of the album has no accompaniment at all. So what are you left with? 1/2 singer-songwriter open mic night with a guy who's neither a particular strong singer nor a special guitar player (I would use the word "unique" except that NY is a little unique in his willingness to stick with the note he likes for an entire solo) and 1/2 garage-rock live album. Young is capable of writing and playing songs that work in that format (e.g. Needle and the Damage Done), but these aren't really them - there just isn't a ton of compositional creativity here. It's not like it's totally unpleasant. "Pocahontas" is a lovely song, and has one of the few interesting harmonic turns on the record with the modulation to conclude the chorus. I like the riff on "Powderfinger". "Welfare Mothers" is a fine rocker with another neat change at the end of each chorus. But overall it's kind of weak.

(2.3) Ride my Llama is a banger. The harmonica was a nice touch.

Not my style, but listenable

Meh. Maybe I'm just not american enough, but I had trouble making out what he was saying.

This does absolutely nothing for me. My breakfast gave me more emotional resonance.

This seemed OK but not worth listening on YouTube. Going 2 stars, leave it on Spotify, wanker.

Oddly dull

His voice? What?

Apparently I need to listen to a whole lot of Neil Young before I die. I just don't love his voice, and being live sure doesn't help. This album isn't terrible, I'm not impervious to a nice turn of phrase, but I'm quite sure I won't be going back to listen again.

Fuck Neil Young. 2/5.

Voor mij niet het beste van Neil

Hey Hey, My My is natuurlijk geweldig, maar voor de rest allemaal zeer middelmatig en soms zelfs saai.

Genoeg nu met Neil Young!

Ouwe zeiksnor. Sorry voor de liefhebbers.

11/24/2021 Today's Album: "Rust Never Sleeps" by Neil Young - I didn't really care for this album. I respect Neil Young for being one of the best folk artists of the 70s and I think the guitar work and vocals in this album are great, but after the first song, this album does very little for me to stay invested. Each song sounds like it should be covered on a muppets folk album and I get sick of the instrumentation really quickly, as the soloing instrument is ususally a harmonica and the rest of the instrumentals are so similar to each other throughout the album. The second half has more distorted guitar, but its sort of an obnoxious effect. I also just am not really into the asthetic of a country boy out on the farm and the only thing this album offers outside of that is if John Denver made an entire album that was just rocky mountain high. The only reason this album will not be receiving anything lower than the score it is getting is because I understand that this is a solid folk album and that Neil Young is a legend. It just really is not my thing, though. Score: 3/10 boring Highlights: My My Hey Hey (Out of the Blue), Powderfinger, Welfare Mothers

Liked the harmonica. Contrast between the start and end of the album was cool. Fantastic lines: I wish a was a trapper I would give thousand pelts To sleep with Pocahontas And find out how she felt In the mornin' On the fields of green In the homeland We've never seen

It's fine. Both Hey^2, My^2 versions and Powderfinger are good. Rest is meh. 5/10

I object primarily to it being a live album.

It is just alright. I did not really care for it. The songs were inconsistent in style. Remove the folk songs and it would get a higher rating.

Old school rock somewhat country or talked vocals somewhat

First song was good. I could do without the rest

4/10. This sounded pretty samey, and was rather boring to boot.

not my genre

Too whiney... and harmonicas..

Most of the music is sameish and Neil's voice isn't doing the music any favors

Meh, not a huge fan.

This acoustic rock album sounded pretty generic, but it helped pass the time. Not great, but not terrible either.

track 01 - went on for way too long, already had bias against this song without ever having heard the full track track 02 - really liked the guitars here, more folk-y sound track 03 - silly song, meeting a martian? really tired of neil's vocals track 04 - big yikes, same vocal pattern as usual, singing about indigenous massacres from a white person's perspective, talking about sleeping with pocahontas?!?!!!? track 05 - sorry i fell asleep track 06 - electric guitar?! i'm awake again. feeling that riff and the ooo ooooos in the background track 07 - shut the fuck uppppp

Not a fan.

Neil Young has way better stuff than this.

boring, too quiet, old white guy music either 1 or 2/5

boring as shit

Beautiful songs, rocking album, can't stand his voice

Fav: My My, Hey Hey (Out of the Blue)

Kändes inte så speciell. Första låten var bra men resten var ganska eh

Gaat wel maar niet geweldig

ehhhhhh

Not a massive fan of his voice which doesn't help. And really didn't like the last two tracks :(

don't care about Neil Young at all 1/5

favs: my my, hey hey (out of the blue) rating 0.6/5

Unfortunately, I don't like his voice at all. That's why I'm giving the album only one star.

didnt like it.

not my style at all.

Nah. Neil Young's voice annoys me too much, it's also too country for me. Just a massive swing and a miss. I don't know what was so special about this album to make it into the 1001.

I was really surprised at how much I was bored by this

I just don't think I'm a Neil fan.

I hated this so much. He can't sing and the songs all sounded the same. I cannot fathom how people are giving this 5 stars!

Odio a Neil Young.

Wearisome

This was shit

snooze fest

Rust iron rust too rusty

not for me at all

MAYBE in a summer truck, otherwise my take is “yuck”

it's enough for me not my type wasn't able to finish it maybe one day

Life's too short to force myself to listen to Neil Young. Hard pass. I did actually listen to some of it. It was not good. Dude has a crazy Native American fetish.

I've never been a fan of his voice. It almost physically hurts my ears. Its hard to enjoy/listen the music because of that. But the songs seem ok.

Just awful. Such a surprising let down by an artist I truly respect. The first half, the acoustic side, sounds like any a collection of any post Peter Paul and Mary folk tunes about nothing in particular and I’ve spent a lifetime as a musician and listener trying to avoid exactly the sort of pointless rock & roll epitomized by the electric b-side. I will do everything in my power to never listen to another bar of music from this album ever again.

mhh Neil Young tatsächlich nie gehört, keinen song hatte ich mir ganz anders vorgestellt? c

I just really do not enjoy folk, I fear I might just have folk fatigue, but this album did nothing for me

This album specifically is not my cup of tea. Some of the subject matter on this album is rather odd. Welfare Mothers in particular is a very interesting choice for a song lol. I can't say that the entire album is bad. There's some guitar breaks and riffs in songs like Powderfinger that are good. But overall, can't really say that this is an album that I would listen to ever again.

My least favorite Neil young peice

No, a big no. I don't understand why this album is on the list. Harvest definitely shoukd be on this list but, a live album which from the 9 tracks 2 are the same.. no. Recorded live but the vocals in a studio sounds cheating as well. Also, this is boring, felt like a chore to go through this album and even if they rocked hard, it sounded like a bunch of teenagers could do better. 1/5

not my thing

oh this song. sure. a little too earnestly maudlin for me, and fuuuck harmonica man. instrumentals (other than that fuckass harmonica) are decent enough. voice is crazy annoying though, i don't think i'm in a bad mood (yet, only halfway through the album, ugh) so i can confidently say that i'll never enjoy this guy second version of my my hey hey is better but i don't like the repeat

God I wish there was a single song that grabbed my attention

I used to go to this bar on a Friday night and play 10 Neil Young tracks in a row and do magic tricks. Most everyone loved it, except for one person who worked there, they always looked so angry.

This was okay again, not my type of music at all

Dont care for neil young

Beautiful music, but also makes me want to fall asleep on a rainy day. That's not necessarily a bad thing, if you are in that mood. Neil Young is very focused on lyrics. Also not a bad thing. However, it means you won't get much in the instrumental department. If you're into instruments it could be disappointing. The songs that he tries to go upbeat are the worst songs. Stick to the slow stuff, Neal.

I don’t really care for this either. I’m not very familiar with either artists.

From the first track, I was rapidly losing patience with this album, and I was completely over it by "Pocahontas," so after that I gave maybe a minute or two to each song in hope of something better before skipping to the next, so my highlight/lowlight callouts will verge on meaningless; it was all bad to me. On songs like "Powderfinger" where I was in danger of enjoying the music, it was never long before Neil Young's reedy, whining voice was back to torment me with some cringe and insipid lyrics. Best: "Powderfinger" (for the guitar) Worst: "Pocahontas" (the last full song I listened to)

gods this is boring. dad rock at its rock bottom

Ik viel al vrij snel in slaap

Still struggling to understand how people can like Neil Young. They rave on and on about his influence and you go listen and it's just a guy who sucks. First 2 songs were fine then it just goes straight down to the toilet

I'm not sure why we have to listen to this before we die. It's a tight 38 minutes and it's felt long and underwhelming. Neil Young, CSN will drop in popularity as the Boomers kick it. I don't see their appeal. There is so much more interesting music from their contemporaries. It might be my deep dislike of NY's flat, frilly vocals. He's no Thom Yorke or Jeff Buckley.

I’m not listening to anymore Neil Young. I heard there are like 13 of his albums on here. I tried with one record, hated it. I’ve hated his music all my life, and I’ve actually heard a fair amount of it cause I have a buddy that owns like all 113 records he’s put out. There literally is not single piece I’ve ever heard of his that I’ve enjoyed. Don’t need to hear this record to know it’s a big fat goose egg from me. Fuck you, Neil Young. 0.5/5 He gets a half a point for not writing Destiny’s Child’s Survivor.

Meh. I kinda like Neil Young when he does country-rock, but this album is just 90 % country. Worse, it’s (very) slow country. I really can’t relate, sorry. There’s only so much harmonica and soft guitar I can take in a day, and I reached my limit about halfway through the album. This must be a North-American thing. Something about pick-up trucks and long boring drives. I tried to find reasons to give it a 2*, but there’s really nothing that stands out, it just sounds like every country album ever. Neil Young has done much better albums, why include this one ? Do we really need half his discography on this list ?

A collection of 7 skippable songs bookended by 2 decent ones

Honestamente, me aburrio, no le preste casi anda de atencion al album. Siento que en un futuro me puede gustar mas.

I tried to come up with an actual review, but I couldn’t.

PASS. I've listened to it already and I truly hate it. It's boring, monotonous shit for me. 1/5

I enjoyed powder finger I felt like this album was a wanna be bob Dylan singing mediocre songs about native Americans. Only one or 2 songs grabbed me and I found it to be dull for the most part.

Shit album

Just an insanely boring album, I couldn't even finish it.

Loved enough Young/Horse to be completely disappointed in this one. Not enough character

‘Pocahontas’ captures what I find so risible about Neil Young. It starts by describing the Native American genocide in boilerplate terms: 'they killed the buffalo', 'they came with their firesticks', 'modern life is all shingled roofs and taxicabs'. It's trite, but harmless. Next though, he describes how he wants to fuck Pocahontas so she can tell him how she ‘felt’ about it, while Neil (we can imagine) noodles on the guitar and tells her how she's 'totally right on, man'. The track's final image, and I suspect Young's real fantasy, is of he and Pocahontas sitting around a fire discussing indigenous rights with Marlon Brando. Shortly after this track there's a corker about how Welfare Mothers make better lovers. Here Neil is even more out to sea than he was with the Native Americans, with the only touchstones he can conjure being the city laundromat and loitering on the street with her multitude of children. I guess you could say that anything Neil Young is about the guitar playing: make a fucking guitar album then Neil, and keep your trap shut. 1*

5/7/2025: boring, dumb lyrics, bad voice, this guy sucks.

Neil Young is genuinely one of the most boring artists I've ever listened to.

Neil Young's vocals are too whiny for me.

not my thing

Nope, can’t do it. One star is too high

I'm not a big fan of this type of music. Harmonicas leave me cold. Neil Young's voice is grating. Sure, yes--Neil Young is a genius and without him, we wouldn't have grunge. Whatever. Could a female artist get away with being this unappealing and annoying? Nope. Not for me.

Wasn’t bad but didn’t grab me

I'm not getting baited into listening to another Neil Young album. Please note that I gave this a 1 without listening to it, but I'm probably also right about it.

yeah kinda bad ngl. Draining to listen to. 2 out of the 9 tracks didn’t bother me. Fav tracks (actually only tolerable ones): My My, Hey Hey (Out of the Blue) Thrasher Wtf: Ride My Llama?????????

it's inexplicable for us to still be coming across more neil young albums in this exercise, and this is so aggressively mediocre even within what we've gotten so far that i thought i was going to turn to dust like an avenger in end game

I thought the more of hear this guy is finally get it. But man. It's just terrible. I hate how he doesn't really sing but clearly doesn't have any flow like a rapper either. I must have dozed off because somewhere around the halfway point someone plugged in a guitar which at least made it listenable. Probably because it went a little way to masking his horrible lyrics and voice. Every time he is on my list I swear at myself for blowing to listen to these albums the whole way through.

Harvest: good yield Rust never sleeps: rusty indeed. I do not quite get the semi live/studio approach. On this rendition, the typical Neil Young's piercing voice is really like tiring for the ears...

Neil Young has always interested me because despite being a successivement folk veteran in the ’60s, he later chose to embrace a dusty, rugged rock sound, going against the grain of most of his peers. Both sides of him are present on this album, but being more « into the Black » than « out of the Blue » myself, I’m left frustrated—especially since the acoustic parts are disappointing. The whole “better to burn out than to rust” spirit comes through more clearly in latest parts of his discography. This record, however, feels unbalanced and rather unremarkable to me.

Very boring.

So boring. Only Welfare Mothers gave me anything.

Too many Neil Young albums appearing on here. Dreary

Neil Young stated he prefers MAGA conservatives not enjoy his music. I am respectfully saying fuck him and rating this and all Neil Young albums with a '1' because I can't use zero. Did not waste my time

I don't really like Neil's voice or how he sings. Pass.

Really didn't like this one. There's something uniquely insulting about how boring it is.

Not a fan of this one at all. Not sure if it's because I've recently noticed that Neil Young sounds like a muppet, which may colour all future listening. More likely, none of this album touches the greatness of his best work.

Fuck Neil Young. What a douche nozzle.

Welfare mothers just completely took my out of this album, listening with 2024 sensibilities telling people welfare queens fuck good makes the entire project unlistenable. I tried to find information, trying to find concrete evidence it was satire or something but all i got was a couple of fans saying it's obviously a joke and a few more saying neil was going through a phase during this time.

Each song felt 10 minutes long. I would listen to 20 slipknots over this.

Mind-numbingly boring and formulaic rock. Everything is humdrum and by rote. Save yourself the time and skip this one.

Live album and soft music, immediate discard for me.

kinda boring if you ask me

I don't like Neil Young's voice.

Nicht meine Richtung

Not good

Put me to sleep, works great as a melatonin replacement.

This is a quandary. As far as I know, live albums are a rehash of music that has already been released. But this looks like all new music. Which is a conundrum. Who would pay to go to concert when you don't know what the music sounds like? I have to stay with what I know.

Liked Song My My, Hey Hey (Out of the Blue)

This album made me like Neil Young less. Absolute peak boredom.

The type of music that is passable to hear playing softly on the speakers of a country themed restaurant, but nothing I'd ever choose to listen to

I get a bad taste in my mouth now when I see the names Young, Nash, Stills & Crosby. Okay it wasn’t THAT bad, the guitar is nice I hate the yeehaw america *eagle noises* vibes

Not available on Spotify

Good! One star off for swears.

Whining vocals, mediocre melodies

Some people can cook asparagus incredibly well but I still don't want to eat it. This album is undeniably an artistic masterpiece, but I wanted to take off my headphones basically the whole time I was listening. Favorite song: Thrasher

Fuck Neil Young 0⭐

Not working for me

I could not finish. Every song sounded the same.

Problematic lyrics and most songs sound similar

Not available on Spotify

No music here - just noise

I’m on my hands and knees begging for a modern album.

nicht bei Spotify anhörbar - Gott sei Dank!

Well since Neil Young refuses to be on Spotify I refuse to look it up on you tube. lol Plus I don't think I even like his stuff very much.

Cant listen to

Neil Young was supposedly 34 when this album was recorded but I'd bet two nickels he was actually 85. I can't otherwise understand how he somehow sounds like an old man shaking his fist at clouds in the sky. Seriously - picture Ab Simpson when you listen to his whiney, shakey voice with no range at all. Maybe Neil Young was the voice actor for that character all along.
