Reviews (page 10 of 13)

Estuvo ok, aunque me pregunto cuántos discos más de Neil Young necesitamos.

Just raw greatness

Not that I to him. I used to sound like him and it was irritating

Another Neil Young album? A mid to low 3. Much preferred it once he found where to plug the guitars in.

Classic Neil Young.

I know the album says rock but this felt WAY more like country, without a doubt. I don’t expect country to have electric guitar and heavy drums in it but apparently it can. Neil young is a genius god bless country-rock. 3.7/5

Neil Young is always conflicting for me. I wrote this in my notes for one of his other albums, but I have an enormous amount of respect for him as a musician and as a person, but generally can't get into his music. The exception to this is when he straps on an electric guitar with a band and lets it rip. I remember as a kid, my dad would always listen to Neil Young, while I was busy listening to Nirvana/Alice in Chains/Soundgarden/Pearl Jam. Then, when Mirror Ball came out, he put it on for me, and my 11 year old mind was blown. Long story short, that means that this album is split for me. First half, could take or leave. Second half, I really enjoy, even if it's not in regular rotation for me.

good. decent. not the biggest fan of neil youngs voice. rock vibe songs are not my favorite. other songs were good.

I think I reviewed a Neil Young album previously and was not at all impressed. I wasn't expecting much from this but I have had enough surprises during the first ~100 albums to go in with an open mind. I'm glad I did, this album was immeasurably better than the previous experience. Maybe it was the added 'rock' impact from Crazy Horse (the other album was a lot more acoustic). The only downside for me is his singing voice, but it's not out of tune or anything awful like that, it just jars a bit with me.

This sounds like Neil Young. If you like Neil Young you'll love it. If you don't like Neil Young you'll hate it. As for me...eh haha

Listen to half of it and i didn't really get going enough to finish it :/ DM me if i made a mistake and I need to revisit

A great acoustic album. Welfare mothers is dirtier than I expected (sound-wise), for an otherwise light/acoustic album.

Not a huge Neil Young fan, but this was a good reacquaintance. 3/4 of the album is fantastic going from classic folk to rock. While I'd prefer the folk stuff more, I appreciate it all. Last two tracks are grungy and just don't work as well as the rest of the album. While the last is a reprise of the first song, I like the acoustic version better.

I fully expected to hate this, given that I gave Ragged Glory one star. This was...okay. To be fair, I was kind of distracted with the godawful taste of my new greens powder, but this album wasn't adding to my sensory discomfort in the way Elvis Costello was while I was choking down the same greens drink the other day.

Not interested in this one. I see the value and can heard influences of more modern music, I just can't get past his voice.

the first and the last track are the best

This was a really nice record. Shame I can't listen on Spotify though, as he's apparently got beef with them. Favourite tracks: My My, Hey Hey (Out of the Blue), Ride My Llama, Pocahontas, Hey Hey, My My (Into the Black)

Not quite my taste.

Oke genoeg van neil young nu

Great artist, and band. Not their best album. But, still good. Can never go wrong with Neil Young. Classic rock artist. Still putting out good music, today.

I wish I liked listening to Neil young more. I like his songwriting.

Теперь мне ясно кем вдохновлялись Arctic Monkeys.

'My My, Hey Hey' is a great song, but the rest didn't really do anything for me at all, surprisingly. Neil Young must be one of the most respectable in his genre, but I've come to the conclusion that he has a few songs that are very good, then the rest is actually below average. At least this is what I've found after hearing some of his albums through this list. Quite disappointing album for me, I'll give it a weak 3 just because I feel it's a bit of a "me problem".

Neil has such a unique voice that I think is an acquired taste that I've only partially acquired. I think I've heard more of his stuff with CSNY or CNY (specifically Heart of Gold) but there's a simple, pure quality to his songs that feels optimistic and light. It's not my favorite by any means but I respect the longevity of his career.

The first half of the album is a stripped down, folky guitar music. It’s ok if you can stand Neil Young’s whiny voice. The last third of the album brings in the electric guitar and it really makes the album come alive! “Powderfinger” was a real highlight.

Would like it more if he wasn't a cuck.

Bit as good as Live Rust...

I enjoyed it, but I probably need more time with it to hear what is special about it.

The type of stuff our Dad listened to.

Not really my thing but a fun one time listen

Favorites: My My, Hey Hey (Out of the Blue), Thrasher, Ride My Llama. Neil Young, great story teller.

Went in expecting something closer to John Denver, ended up pleasantly surprised with the style of the music. Not entirely my cup of tea, but I would be open to listening to another Neil Young album.

This album was not on spotify, after reading into why, I understand and respect Neil Young for his choice. Luckily I was able to listen to this on Youtube Music, and I have to say, it's not a bad album. All the songs have the same soppy tone, that sounds like a country singer turned emo. I didn't think I'd enjoy it as much as I did, not an incredible 5 star masterpiece, but definitely better than many other albums.

Lyrics are a bit over the top Good guitar and harmonica

can't listen :(

I can see why he's a legend

Best Songs: My My, Hey Hey Listen Again: Probably

This is an artist I’d heard more of than actually listened to, and this album made me listen to other albums and learn more of Neil’s backstory. Mad props to this dude. I even like some of his songs. I personally just don’t like listening to his voice. Might appreciate a Neil Young cover more than the original.

My My, Hey Hey is a great song, and a really good opener, and Thrasher is a really good continuation. After that everything is just ok not too much stands out to me, besides Welfare Mothers which is really bad. Low 3.

An artist I've always liked when I listen to him/them but never gave them the full attention they deserve. Really love the opening song, 'My My Hey Hey,' sets a great tone for the rest of the album, but there are a lot of very slow moments where the album drags for me a bit. Other notable songs: Powderfinger, Welfare Mothers, Sedan Delivery. I love the return to Hey Hey My My at the end, really ties the album together. Interesting how the second half of this album is much more energetic than the first half. Still not the best I've heard from this generation/genre. 3/5

Use to like it. Fine but too nostalgic for me now

First album of the series, listened mainly at work, probably need to focus more on listening for the rest of the albums. Live album, seems like Neil young was pretty existential when this was written. First track was good/most popular. Cool circular nature (out of blue into black). Also Ride my llama sounds like Loney is the night.

Well, I hope I'm more into any of the other six Neil Young albums that're on this list.

For my first Neil Young album, it certainly is Something.

If I could rate each part of this album, I think I’d give the front half a strong 3/5 (for my sensibilities) and the back half a 4/5, almost solely on production that feels at least 7 years ahead of its time. Obviously, that balances out to 3.5, but as an entire album, I don’t think I’d feel right rounding that up to 4 – that would put it at the same level as the Yes album, the Springsteen album, and the Funkadelic album, and I just don’t think I enjoyed this as much as those. I think it’s about even with Parklife for me. Definitely better than Run-D.M.C. though.

Has not aged well

Already familiar with this one

Ok. Jep.

Mostly boring, however there were a few decent tunes. Thrasher, Sail Away, Powderfinger and the closer, I wouldn’t skip.

I’ve never been a huge Neil Young fan and listening to this album doesn’t ,make me a bigger fan. It is rock…it’s message rock that is appropriate for the time but It’s not great. I can see why people like it…guitar is awesome in it. Just wouldn’t put this album in my rotation.

It's OK. I like some of this other stuff better.

Super live Aufnahme Coole Gitarre Etwas zu "country like" für mich.

Gitarrenspiel sehr getragen, ich finde es teilweise langweilig. Die Texte sind recht merkwürdig, verstehe den Sinn in großen Teilen nicht.Gerade so 3 Sterne.

Standard fare from Neil. 3.5/5

My My, Hey Hey (Out Of The Blue) Powderfinger

I just don't care for his voice. Good lyrics are only as good as they are comprehensible.

Wasn't available for me to listen to fully but enjoyed what I could

its good, some songs I didn't like, but I should listen to more Neil Young in general. Will I listen to again: 30%

Not my thing. 2.7.

Interesting that I had to listen to this one on YouTube (Neil Young was protesting against Spotify for some reason). Some say that Neil doesn't have the best voice, and I think I agree with that. But the songs are good enough that it makes up for it. I'd want to hear it some more.

Figured since I was almost done playing catch up with the rest of my group, I'd go ahead and go back and do this album, which I'd missed because it previously wasn't on Spotify. Solid Neil Young album. I fall into the group that likes his voice, and think he's a solid, in uneven, artist. This album is exactly that.

It’s pretty chill, the lyrics make me laugh. It’s not necessarily my thing. 3.5/5

Right off the bat, sounds like I'm in for another sadboi album. I do love the general vibe on track one though, the main guitar riff sounds pretty iconic, and I love the harmonica.

Enjoyed. Best Neil Young Live I’ve heard

My My, Hey Hey // Ride My Llama //

I liked it more than i thought it would given that i don't like live albums and not a huge NY fan.

erg goed, kende er een paar erg goed. Rest was ook allemaal beetje die classic rock. Ga er erg goed op

Rating: 6/10 Decent album, slightly enjoyed it overall. The acoustic side (Side A) was pleasant to listen to, got a little boring and repetitive though. The electric side (Side B) starts off great and then each other song has parts I like and dislike on it, mixed bag on Side B. Favorite song: My My, Hey Hey (Out of the Blue), Powderfinger. Worst song: Ride My Llama.

Don’t love it. Cool sound, good campfire vibes. Wouldn’t buy the album

Seems like an album where I'm at a disadvantage if I don't pay attention to lyrics (which I don't). The acoustic guitar and harmonica is really nice, but the simplistic melodies tend to blur together. I also can't decide whether I like his voice or not. The turn to electric on side B was unexpected and adds some much-needed variety. Highlights: Ride My Llama, Welfare Mothers

WHAT I ENJOYED: There are some classics on here, probably. I didn't grow up with parents who were into Neil Young so this was my first time (outside of like, dive bars, probably) hearing some of them. I think it's cool that this album sounds like the beginning of a bridge between 70's soft rock and 80's grunge/lo-fi indie. GRIPES: I can see how the vocals are not for everyone. But at the same time, I feel like they're not SO bad...imo they add charm to melodies that would probably sound too precious and yacht-rock-y without imperfections and texture. Then again, it seems like a lot of the lyrics were just an afterthought. I have no idea what most of the songs are about. RECCOMMENDED IF YOU LIKE: Other Neil Young stuff, the Pixies, Elliott Smith #347 revealed / #494 rated

I liked Side 1, and the closer Hey, Hey, My, My.

Solid but not up there with Harvest.

When you put your best song first on the album because you’re worried it will get buried in the rest of your average songs.

it was ok

Classic rock. Not quite my thing but not bad at all

Classic album with the unique sounds of Neil Young. Albums a bit of a hit and miss for me, but I enjoy plenty of Neil Young songs

Des bons classiques avec Hey hey, my my entre autres.

Can't listen to this due it not being available on Spotify and YouTube's ad blocker blocking still blocks my browser when I disable my ad blocker.

Gear: Meze 109 PRO Mix (2016 Remaster): fantastische Live-Aufnahme(n) Musik: nice. Wertung: 🎒🎒🎒/5

Fine. I watched the concert movie for this about 20 years ago. I remember enjoying that movie more than listening to this album now. The closing Hey Hey My My is my favorite track on this album.

Hey hey rest ok

Some good some really bad songs

ihan ok ralli mut ihaku ois repeatil kuunnellu samaa biisii lmao

First Neil Young album. I liked it, but am facing that 3/4 stars dilemma again - going with 3 because I don’t see myself going out of my way to listen to the whole album again. Highlights: - My, My, Hey Hey/Hey, Hey, My, My (both versions) - Thrasher - Ride My Llama

Pleasant to listen.

Starts out pretty chill, maybe folky, but it certainly ends with a much more crunchy, punk feel to it. Niel Young always has a lot to say.

It starts out a little folky, but wraps up with much more crunch. Almost had a punk feel towards the end. Like always though, Niel Young always has a lot to say.

I like an occasional Neil Young song. This was a lot of it

Unmistakable Neil Young vocals and acoustic sound, but for me album does not come to life until the second half, when the lead guitar kicks in.

I have a nostalgic appreciation for Neil Young, and he's a fantastic songwriter. But his voice just aint it for me personally. Sail Away and Powderfinger are amazing though.

Started a little boring. Last songs are more raw and more enjoyable. Not a big fan of Neil Young's voice and from a technical perspective not really outstanding.

An enjoyable album although didn't stand out for me

Got better as I listened

Hey, hey, hey remains a stand-out banger, otherwise other songs are forgettable with some exceptions

I was kinda sleepy when I put this record on, and I guess I’m a little surprised that it kept me feeling that way given the band’s name is Crazy Horse. I like Neil Young, but after all the soft folk stuff I’ve been really itching to hear his wilder side. I don’t think this one had it for me. I would disagree this is an essential listen at this time. Call me back when I’ve heard 10 more of these albums.

Not available on Spotify

Surprisingly enjoyable.

Not crazy about Neil Young's voice, honestly. Solid album though.

Neil and all the others, just upload your work in spotify

Southern rock

"Rust Never Sleeps" by Neil Young & Crazy Horse is a live album that captures the raw energy of Young's performances during his 1978 tour. The album is divided into an acoustic set and an electric set, showcasing Young's versatility and stage presence. The acoustic portion features tracks like "My My, Hey Hey (Out of the Blue)" and "Pocahontas," which highlight Young's introspective songwriting and folk-rock sensibilities. The electric set, on the other hand, includes classics like "Hey Hey, My My (Into the Black)," characterized by distorted guitars and a heavier sound. While the album captures the essence of a Neil Young concert, it might not be the best entry point for newcomers to his music. The live recordings can sometimes lack the studio polish of his studio albums. Additionally, while some fans appreciate the live atmosphere, others may prefer the original studio versions of these songs. In summary, "Rust Never Sleeps" is a solid live album that captures Neil Young's prowess as a performer, but its appeal may be more limited to fans who enjoy the live experience. It deserves a respectable 3/5 rating.

Folk-rock My my, hey hey Trasher

Decent live album

My favorite songs were My My, Hey Hey (Int the black)" and Thrasher and Sail Away (has a bluegrass feel), Powderfinger. I like how the intro song was redone as the last song on the album, but with distortion. I find the album a little repetitive, the guitar riffs almost always have a chord, walkdown, chord, chord formulation. And the chord progression in the verse and chorus match often, which feels flat. Neil's voice isn't very strong so I think it brings the quality down a bit, but I know he wrote the songs so I'm all for him singing them.

It was alright

First half is fairly decent singer songwriter fare. Second half sounds kinda like the Pixies.

When this album started I was like "Oh sick, this will be fun!" I didn't have that same enthusiasm at the end...

Enjoyed the difference in sound between the acoustic side and the electric side. Loved a few of the tracks on the album (My My Hey Hey, Powderfinger, Sail Away, Hey Hey My My) but the rest were just ok. (3/5)

The first half of this is acoustic, and I actually kind of liked it more than the previous Neil Young album I listened to. The back half is more rock, and not too bad as well. So it turns out that I mostly hate Neil Young's 60s output (so far). 3/5

Highlights: "Powderfinger," "Ride My Llama," "Thrasher," "Hey Hey My My (Into the Black)" Ragged Glory would give us much more of the key sound here, but nothing there is as good a song as "Powderfinger," and this album feels more engaging and less monotonous because, like Stop Making Sense, it steadily builds and builds in ensemble and dynamics until it can't go higher, and then holding that energy feels more rewarding because it's been earned. The unexpected downside, also found on Ragged Glory, is much of the songwriting. Young can be uncomfortably uninhibited and leak out some deeply embarrassing pseudoironic ideas ("Pocahontas"), but it's also sometimes just erratic and unstable ("Sedan" and "Hey Hey"). Understandable that "Powderfinger" and "Into the Black" were historically raucous and raw guitar performances, where the gate is crumbling under a totally wrecked signal. We haven't really gotten dirtier than that; people have explored other flavors and frequencies, but what we have here is basically the limit.

This is the seventh album starring Neil Young that I've had so far. That is way too much Neil Young for a lifetime. Best album by him so far though. "My My, Hey Hey (Out of the Blue)" is probably gonna be the only song by Neil Young that I'll actually remember after I'm done with this project. Also put your music back on Spotify you old miserable geezer. Listening to music on Youtube feels degrading somehow.

it was ok, not in love with neil youngs voice, this isnt my brand of rock that i prefer, most of the songs sound the same.

Rating: 6/10 Best songs: My my hey hey

Belle progression, belles guitares, textes curieux

Neil Young number five. I've been all over the place with his albums. This one has its own feel sometimes, although I don't think it rates with some of the others, and I'm really thinking that Young is over-represented in this project at the expense of other deserving artists.

I didn't really love it, but I tolerated this album just fine. At no point did a have an overwhelming urge to hit skip, and I did appreciate the change in style mid-album...I guess that is worth something...just not quite enough to move the rating arrow.

Back when I was in college, I used to hang out at this bar where *so much drama* went down. There was this one bartender who had zero tolerance for Neil Young and this other guy who apparently *lived* to play Neil Young. Oh, and did I mention the magic tricks? Yep, the Neil guy would perform magic for women like he was auditioning for a spot in Vegas. I couldn’t tell what was more awkward—the bartender’s quiet rage as Neil’s greatest hits blasted or the magician’s attempts to charm women with card tricks. Honestly, I just went there for the wings. Best wings ever.

Liked the first half. Apparently the second half is very influential, but wasn't my thing.

My my, hey hey, the front end of this album is not okay. Featuring some of the most dismal and grating recordings in Neil's catalog, if not of all time, this album shouldn't be on this list. Neil has plenty of music in his career to pick from, this is not the album I would have chosen. It finally starts to pick up a bit with Powderfinger. This album is supposedly a mix of live and studio overdubs and it shows with the rough mix and sloppy performance, but goddamn are the guitars in Hey Hey, My My nasty as fuck. +1 for that tone that's going to haunt my dreams

Not a huge fan of Neil Young, i think its his general demeanor and ego. The album is not bad, it has its enjoyable moments. Overall positive, but I don't need to listen again

⭐️⭐️⭐️

The more I listen to Neil Young, the less I like his albums. There's still a few songs on here that rock, but on the whole, he feels really overrated.

A mix of live/studio album from 1979. The odd highlight such as the opening track but overall - just whelmed. I'll check out the more acclaimed albums for a better idea.

this is a fine album. neil young is always going to have good sing a long, lead line laden guitar rock. fine in the background. a bit repetitive to me, at times.

not bad, decent songs none stood out except hey hey my my

not on Spotify

I couldn't 'cause it wasn't available in my country...

B-side was surprisingly heavy

Hyvä levy. Outo konsepti jälkiäänittää levilevyn päälle ehkä? 3/5

Just like that man a lot and even the live „Album“ is Good.

It’s just okay for me. A generous three for My My Hey Hey or Hey Hey My My depending on your preference.

Pleasant but forgettable

I liked it. Neil Young may have a bit of a whiney voice but I'm into that.

It was fine.

Acoustic 1st half vs. electric 2nd half was an interesting experience.

The first half of the album was more folk rock, the second half more rock. It was a pleasant listen but I don't find this album particularly special. 3.25-3.5/5

This feels good, this might be one of my favorite Neil Young albums I've heard other than Harvest! Definitely less hit potential than Harvest, but it's really solid all the way through, and the band just adds an extra flavor to it. I would absolutely put this on while doing other things. Neil Young never ceases to get me just a little more bittersweet-feeling than I did before. 3/5

Given his vocal styles and guitar chops, Young was always better live. You never knew what you were gonna get. It felt like a real performance; never the same things twice. I also much prefer Young to his predecessors like Dylan. He's a more relatable lyricist who's words transcend the time in which they were written...for the most part. That said, the first half of this record, made up of mostly acoustic arrangements and Neil's voice, COMPLETELY obliterates the back half, which is a much more studio-driven, full band collection of tracks.

Just fine really I liked Hey, Hey, My My

Not exactly revolutionary but it's ok

I think this is a case of liking the things inspired by this album more than I like the album itself. It's fine, just nothing that keeps me coming back for more.

The Crazy Horse presence makes things a bit lukewarm here.

Not bad. Started out sad, but got better. The R and A in that font look almost the same. Another album, where people in the YT comments talk about their deceased loved ones. + Ride My Llama + Sail Away + Powderfinger + Sedan Delivery

F you Neil Young. You think that taking your music from Spotify is gonna change anything ... you sexxy mutton-chopped beast... YEAH it will ... YEAH you are... I'd ride your llama any day... "My, my, hey, hey, I had to go to YT to listen today ..."

The bookends ("My My, Hey Hey" and "Hey Hey, My My") are great, and some of my favorite Neil Young songs. I also just love the concept of doing that on an album. However, there's not much to support them in between. My least favorite Neil Young is the stuff that's a bit too folky and slow and wallowy. And that's most of this album. I usually think of Young as a good lyricist, but "Thrasher" left me scratching my head. A little too on the nose and cringey. And why is he wondering how he lost his friends!? He "got bored and left them there!" "Welfare Mothers" was another weird one that didn't work for me. "Powderfinger" and "Sedan Delivery" were the closest the rest of the album got to my preferred version of Neil. Rust may be always awake, but I'm not sure I was for the middle of this album.

Nice but my go to is Harvest, didn't get the same feel from this one but it was nice. Obviously the exception is Hey Hey My My which is a staple of his.

3/5. It’s got some pretty great songs but if this was half its length and just an EP, it would be great. Just some songs that sound like other ones and aren’t unique enough to stand on their own.

Good, some parts very good

Another Neil Young album on the list and I'm fine with that. It's better to burn out, than to fade away.

Oh, did Neil Young write "It's better to burn out than fade away"? I guess I didn't know this was Neil Young. Has anyone ever said, "HEY MAN, NICE MOUTH ORGAN SOLO, DO ANOTHER ONE!"? He's very much like Dylan for me, I'm not quite sure whether I hate his voice or not. Songs are good though. The rest of the band just showed up. I think I like his voice. Is Into The Black or Out of the Blue better? I like the guitars in Into better. Some real fucking passion in that song. Good songs, I'm leaning towards liking his voice. 3 / 5 stars.

I'm giving this 3 stars. I should give it 2 for having to endure listening to it on Youtube. I hope we're done with Neil Young, but fear we'll get another album in a week.

This sounds exactly like every other Neil Young album. Which is completely fine.

Some good songs here. Anyone else hear Candle in the Wind in Thrasher’s harmonica solo?

this is a mediocre Neil Young Album. Enjoyable, but no idea why its a 1001

Somehow Neil Young always soothes me, but I'd never go out and buy an album of his.

Not much to say. Okay.

Pretty average

I think this is the best Neil Young album we've had? Like the two different versions of the same song to start and close the album, agree that Powderfinger is great, and I don't think there's a bad song on it? 3/5... closest we've had to a 4 in a while but I still don't like Neil Young's voice.

Interesting that the album got heavier as it progressed. Raw guitars and simple but effective rhythms. Last song is a banger.

I've heard a lot of these before that I didn't realize I'd heard. These songs have a melancholic, nostalgic edge that is not afraid to come off as sentimental. Slightly saccharine, but in that way that Neil Young always is. Per usual, the guitar playing is phenomenal and beautiful, and rightfully takes the spotlight from the singing. Some lyrics that are inscrutable and/or uncomfortable through a modern lens, but not offensive. I need to read more about this album to understand its angle. "Powderfinger" is really good. I found "Sail Away" underwhelming. There's an element of irony and commentary that doesn't translate well in the modern era but I guess was understood at the time - much of Neil's career seems this way, with some things being more on the nose than others. "Sedan Delivery" sounds like The Doors could have written it. Not my style of jam honestly - too much 60s psych. "My My, Hey Hey" and "Hey Hey, My My" kick ass. Ending on such a hard note was a great choice, especially since the preceding two tracks were much weaker than the album started.

I was recently made aware that Neil Young makes a whopping nine appearances on this list. Can one man really have that much influence and power in this book? That's a lot of amateur singing to get through. Anyway, this particular sound is better for Neil Young. The singer-songwriter vibe coupled with his, admittedly, mediocre voice makes the music sound more genuine and natural. There's also tinges of melancholy that adds another layer to the music. Some of it is quite nice, actually. Still not something I'd go back to but it was a nice listen. Standout tracks were Powderfinger and Sail Away.

Awakrd to find on spotify because Neil Young's estate hates us. Let's see.

I think I get it now, I get why people are into Neil Young, but I still think he's got the whiniest voice I've ever heard.

Not usually a Young fan, but the addition of Crazy Horse on this LP balances out what I usually dislike to make for an entertaining product. The gradual ramp from the slow as molasses tempos Neil favors to some nearly breakneck songs at the end of the album was a fun ride, and there’s some great sizzling guitar on here to underscore the usual narrative songwriting that leads to a fun and unique product.

Meer fan van het 2e deel, die wat harder is. Het eerste deel vond ik heel eentonig

3.5/5. It's Neil Young, so it's a bit above average, but overall fine.

I rolled my eyes when this showed up. After Dylan's live album last week, I thought the algorithm was trying to White-Guy-With-Guitar-And-Harmonica me to death. But I enjoyed this way more than I expected. Never was a huge Young fan, though I always respected him and enjoyed his contributions to other bands. But his voice always grated. Not at all on today's listen, though. I might give this one another listen at some point to see if it grows on me even more.

Can't listen to this because I have Spotify and Neil Young does not! It's likely I'd give Neil a 4 for his music and a 2 for his curmudgeonly views on audio quality.

My My Hey Hey is a certified godpiece. Thrasher is ok, it's funny to hear Neil Young say rock will never die, his voice just sounds too nerdy to say that. Love that harmonica. Ride my llama was ok, nothing to write home about, kinda boring for a song with a great name. Pocahontas stood out, I really liked that song. The rest of it kinda blended, probably as a result on not actively listening... 3.5 stars that I'm giving 3 because I had to listen on youtube... I'm gonna listen to some kpop now.

Turns out I really like Neil Young’s music beyond his major hits. His voice is very soothing, and I enjoyed the lyrics in these songs. I liked Powderfinger most of all.

Classic Neil Young sound.

Ganska bra skiva.

Gets progressively better (less folky) but not my thing. Opener and closer the highlights

Enjoyed the second half more than the first half, but loved the songs "My My, Hey Hey (Out of the Blue)" and "Hey Hey, My My (Into the Black)" which bookend the album. Sounded like classic Neil Young with some more interesting heavier rock later in the album. The line "better to burn out than fade away" is present here which I've heard referenced a lot (not sure if I agree with it, but unfortunately pervasive in music i.e. Cobain, Staley). I enjoyed the album overall, but wouldn't look to actively listen again. Great campfire music.

A harder rock album than Neil would usually create. He does a good job and the album has a lot of range. Some tracks are fun to listen to and some fall short. I’ve never been a fan of live music, so that doesn’t help my opinion of the album. I’d like to give it a higher score, but I honestly don’t think it earned it. It’s sort of a forgettable album. 3/5

saoulée sur la fin tu connais mais mention spéciale pour le premier morceau

Have a couple of albums, not a big fan

Good album. Hey hey my my, is the best track. A lot of other good songs as well. Some of it was live.

ну чё-то не моё

No está en Spotify ni una sola canción

First side is acoustic, classic songs. Second side is more rock forward, not bad but kind of drags the first half down.

I've heard plenty of Neil Young songs, but I've never heard of this album. I'm usually not a fan of live albums, and it's an interesting choice to mix live songs with studio-recorded ones but I don't think I liked the overdubbing. You expect to hear audience reactions/clapping/participation and it's essentially been removed. The acoustic live songs sound the same, whether he's singing about riding a llama or the plight of Native Americans. I liked the studio songs better, but lyrics like "Welfare mothers make better lovers/Out on the street with the whole family now" don't sit well with me unless there's some underlying sarcastic joke I'm not aware of.

Semi decent I guess. I enjoyed the slower songs quite a bit more than the hard rock ones towards the end of the record. Overall I think it was fine. 5/10

This rocks wayyyy too much Like way way way way too much Calm your falm Neil Young

Very woke

Enjoyed most of the acoustic half albeit not to a notable degree. The electric guitar half was more enjoyable to me, but “My My, Hey Hey” as an opener is pretty incredible. Best song: My My, Hey Hey (Out of the Blue)

Neil Young is the kind of man who would sleep with your mum, spit in her face and give her herpes. A weak, pathetic little loser with a notably enormous dick. Yes, if it wasn't for that man's gigantic horse cock, I wouldn't have a father. To be clear, Neil Young is not my father, nor is he my step father, but his massive penis was like a father to me during some of my most troubled times.

5th Neil Young album. Some more diversity would really have been appreciated, mister Robert Dimey. As always, I don't mind any of his output too much, but it gets kind of samey and the difference between his best and the rest is pretty huge. As always, rating somewhere between 2.5-3.5. The final two tracks stood out as uncharacteristic but interesting rock songs.

Good but not my jam

needed more camelids

first listen some good songs, but man i can't get on board with Neil's voice

Great sounding and well sequenced, very harmless. A decent record.

It was enjoyable but not really my thing Album Cover: Meh 2/5

Not my favorite Neil Young, a couple nice tunes but overall more middle of the road hard rocking Neil Young, and less poignant folky Neil Young.

Nothing blew me away but it was a good album. Standout was "Powderfinger"

Good folk rock, but the recording quality is subpar and Young's voice didn't fully resonate with me on some of those tracks.

Not a big Neil Young fan. Just not crazy abut his music though it's easy to listen to. 6/10.

Ok-ish album. Not great, not bad. Not really a fan of Neil Young. 2,5/5

I liked it. But i didnt love love it. Think my rating spectrum may be evolving.

Hey Hey, My My est une incontournable. Perso je préfère la version Into the Black.

Great songs but live format gets a little dull.

As a big Neil fan this album was a huge disappointment… there’s some good stuff here but it just feels really uninspired. 2.5 stars

Few notes: I already knew this album, but I'm not a genre fan. I remember playing "Hey Hey My My" with my friends (don't ask me why Neil himself changed the order of the title every time, sometimes he even changed the lyrics, haha). That song has an iconic guitar riff, so you can easily recognize it from the first notes. Every rock guitar player should know that song: it is considered a standard, so you can probably play it during a jam session, even with people you don't know. All you need to do is work around the riff, put a kicking groove, and then you can try to improve it.

This album is pretty bland until Powderfinger. Then, it's like a switch flipped: Powderfinger, Welfare Mothers, and Sedan Delivery all carry what was set to be a pretty underwhelming album for me. Even the outro version of Hey Hey, My My has considerably more interesting instrumentals. I'll be interested to hear more Neil Young albums to see if this is a trend for him. Favorite track: Welfare Mothers

Interesting mix of live and post-produced, acoustic and electric. Personally the acoustic side without Crazy Horse is much better than the rough-sounding electric side, and the opening track is an instant winner. 3.5 stars altogether, dragged down from 4 because some of the later tracks are a little self-indulgent. I hear it criticised every now and then but I love Neil Young’s voice. It has a really raw, reedy quality, that seems to break in earnest and truly elevates the emotion in his songs - see “The Needle and the Damage Done” from the album Harvest. I had to stream this via YouTube. I’m a little heartbroken that I can’t listen to Neil Young on the go through Spotify, but I appreciate his sticking by his principles.

Enjoyed it, but probably won't go back to it. Powderfinger best song 3.5/5

The spotify killer

1) My, My, Hey, Hey (Out of the Blue): "It's better to burn out than to fade away" 2) Thrasher: Calm country music, feels I'd listen to this when I'm 70. 3) Ride my Llama: picks up some speed but probably my least favourite on the album. 4) Pocahontas: Favourite song on here, love the message and slow rhythm. 5) Sail Away: Smoother with female voice and harmonica, works well. 6) Powderfinger: begins to descend into heavier rock 7) Welfare Mothers: Turns into pure rock after this point, especially this song. 8) Sedan Delivery: continuing into the rock 9) Hey, Hey, My, My (Into the Blue): Similar to last song, but in a rockier form and nice conclusion to the album. There is some stuff I really like here, and some tracks I will definitely return to. Can appreciate the change in the 2nd half of the album though. I'd give this a 7 if I could.

Not a bad listen but other than the first track doesn't feel very memorable. Most of the tracks sound the same

Better than yesterday for sure. I could see myself listening to Neil Young in the future.

Great background music but don’t think I’ll listen to it again.

Disappointed - some well crafted songs, but not really a fan of Young's voice.

Couldn’t listen on Spotify ☹️ But I bet it was good.

Good album - simply accoustics. Don't fuck with it too much but hey - if you it it's pretty lit.

I like the sound and his vocals pair well with the instruments. His lyrics are a bit too much and he comes across as an ass hole. Not bad but I won't come back to it.

An interesting listen with half being acoustic and half electric. Young doesn't have the strongest voice but is a great songwriter/story teller.

Not on spotify.

Pretty good Neil album

Mad decent

Not bad

I've not really listened to much late Neil Young music (I love his early stuff) as I've always thought he'd run out of ideas by then. This kinda confirms that opinion although there are a few outstanding tracks I need to go back to. For a live album (well partly 'live' and then finished off in the studio) it's got a good feel to it and the songs are new with something to say (although a bit dated now). Overall it's a good listen for a Neil Young fan although I do think 7 albums on this chart might be a bit excessive.

Good album, worth another listen

Reminds me of long car trips. It is a classic, but not an amazing one

Well I know it’ll probably be good music but a shame spotify can’t be used… The album starts with my my hey hey( out of the blue) it’s a well done song with good instrumentation and lyrics Just not one that hits for me on any level. Next is thrasher it’s a very solid song a little the same as the last one but it’s still okay. With Ride my lama I didn’t like the recording quality here but I thought it was fairly fun. Pocahontas is probably my favourite of the “ normal” Neil young songs on here yeah it still doesn’t strike any main chords with me but is a great display of music. Sail away ends the first half it sounds like a poorly done version of a Bob Dylan type song to be honest. I don’t know if it’s because of the help from crazy horse but the big band atmosphere works amazingly with Neil especially on the first half of that part powderfinger. Welfare mothers is loud and rocking brilliant song. The penultimate track sedan delivery is almost like Neil young does punk yeah he’s so much better when in a band. The last song hey hey my my ( into the black) is like a rockier continuation of the first song very solid. Well once he had a big band I liked it.

Alright, liked the first half better than the second.

Love Neil. However, never bought an album

I'll allow it

i despise neil young, but i have to admit this wasn’t his WORST album. don’t get me wrong bud voice still made me angry but i’ve definitely heard worse.

Who can write something about Neil Young that hasn't been written (positive or negative and everything in-between...)... There is definitely a large handful of his songs that I enjoy, some quite a lot - is it nostalgia or do I actually love them? Hard to unravel. I'll say this - tons of people hate his voice but I think it's his primary signature and at least in non-huge doses I like it. What I DO hate is his electric guitar playing - I haven't spent the time figuring it out but he might be my most annoying lead player of all-time - any genre. Every gd solo is the same shit: frenetic coked-out endless string bends, rarely letting any notes just *be* - I hate it. Maybe a bit hypocritical because that's also a big signature of his, but it's too much. He should have let anyone else on earth play leads for him. Having said that, "Hey Hey My My" is a classic - no question. The acoustic songs here are quite nice. I think after a while he does get a little ... eh, "boring" is overused (probably by me)... there are only so many major-minor 4/4 songs you can do with this ensemble before you have to try something different, and I love when he finally does - one notable example for me is "Ride my Llama" - some very cool chord progressions in this one. I steer away from the more country-laden ones (e.g. "Sail Away") (also token "something something...great lyrics" here i guess) Overall it's a nice listen - not too long, I like the spaciousness of the acoustic live recordings, but most of the band tracks are meh. I know we have about 80 Neil Young albums to go on this list (....) - I'd personally distill this one to liking 5-6 of the 9 songs, so I'll cop out and give this a pretty strong 3 and move on. 6/10 3 stars

Just droning. Maybe I'm not on enough drugs.

Carino, ma niente di più

3, it was fine

Starts out good but as the album progressed it became less typical Neil Young and also the songs got worse. Overall not a bad album but it left me a bit disappointed, especially right after listening to the Byrd's which is everything this album could and should have been

Never been a huge Neil Young man… this is passable… can’t say anymore than that!

Far better than the last Neil Young & Crazy Horse album on here that was a weird grunge experiment. I like how the album comes full circle with its opening and closing songs. A bit weird in some places, but overall enjoyable.

I kind of hate Live albums, this one was okay though.

I thought this was a pretty good album. 70s Neil young is always half decent. This album had some melodic rhythms and was good lyrically. Could listen to this one again. 7.4/10

LOVE Neil Young but this isn't an album I have loads of nostalgia for or have ever really got into loads, that meant although I listened to it twice it faded into the background a lot. It became a kind of slightly cheesy mushy mush with a lot of guitar solos. I'd love to actually see Neil Young live! I think I'd appreciate the musician-ship more and be really impressed. This album because nice background noise for me which is ok but nothing to write home about.

I did enjoy this and it had some Neil Young songs that I really like on it but as we've said before I think he gets carried away in his live shows and goes over the top on what he thinks the people want

nice to listen to but was bored by track 6. All felt same-y. First Neil Young album i've listened to so assume there must be better than this as he's meant to be a legend.

Starts off with an acoustic masterpiece, followed by four more decent acoustic tracks. If you're a Neil Young fan like me, you'll love it, but there's nothing outstanding here beyond lyrics that you don't already see surpassed in his other albums. These songs are the reason why I dropped from 4 to 3. I think the real highlight is the other 3 songs and the "Hey Hey My My" outro that rightfully deserves the title of "proto-grunge." I was confused in Ragged Glory why Cobain and Vedder considered Young as a huge inspiration if their albums came out before or the same time. But here it is. It's rough, raw, and distorted, taking inspiration in itself from the adjacent punk movement. There's a progression that keeps get wilder, until we reach the penultimate "Sedan Delivery" which I can't believe is a Neil Young song, reminds me of 90s acts like Primus. Absolutely love the flips between slow, melodic, almost psychedelic to the fast-pace jam. Great callback in that outro to remind where we've gone in under 40 minutes.

Definite Neil Young sound. Quite listenable. 3*

Good stuff.

I liked this less than a typical Neil Young album. Live albums just... don't sound as good. Intro and outro versions of hey hey my my were my favourite bits. It was interesting to hear electric guitar featured heavily across a Neil Young album, makes me think of the blowback when Bob Dylan did the same

Hadn’t heard it before. Starting to come round to Neil Young more over the past year or so and there’s a lot I haven’t listened to yet so I was glad to give this one a listen. Probably won’t be my favorite of his, but I liked it. Interesting the two versions of My My Hey Hey bookending the record

Great start off the bat, love the vibe! But as it gets along the same problems as early Bob Dylan or Ryan Adams are apparent. The harmonica kills my ears. But I love it non the less. Short and sweet. 4 But made me lose the game during "Sedan Delivery" So I gotta bump it down. Great song though. High 3

Hmm... My My, Hey Hey is a classic. That's for sure. The rest of the songs I'm having a bit of trouble getting into. They are fine, but nothing amazing. Sedan Mothers vocals are a bit annoying though, definitely don't like that one. I just wish some of the other tracks moved me a bit more, definitely not my fav Neil Young but culturally/objectively it's a 4. But, enjoyment is a 3 so I'm gonna do with a 3.

Two great songs, others are quite good. 3/5

Funny title names

Groot fan van ome Neil. Niet alles is even briljant maar dit vind ik wel een toffe plaat. Zeker live klinkt het erg sterk.

Better than other Crazy Horse albums on this list I’ve heard. Still…

Pretty nice album. I haven't listened to much Neil Young, and I'm starting to think his songwriting might be right up my alley. This may spark my interest in going down a Neil Young rabbit hole!

-My My, Hey Hey ist ein Banger -Thrasher gut aber geht nicht hart enought I think. Versucht tiefer reinzukommen vor paar Jahren. -Ride my Llama: way too good für den goofy ass namen lol

Pretty OK. I can see how it was influential but a lot of the "Native American influences" don't age well.

The album starts off on a extremely good song, but can't really hold that standard for the rest of the album. Still really good though.

Perty good. I liked some a lot more than others

This such an easy listen. I felt like drinking an iced tea on a porch after going through the entire album. I'm kinda shocked that it took me this long to listen to this one.

Good, later songs great!

Incredible songwriter, but I always get hung up in his voice.

Can an album be both good and slightly exhausting at the same time? Yes. This is how I would say this one is for me. Neil Young is one of my hero’s hero’s if that makes sense. I’ve never listened to much but I can see the influence so by proxy I dug a lot of the aesthetics in this album. Always lyrics first this one has some great songs, however it got a bit boring by mid album and I wanted to end it. I probably dig the live tracks the best.

He may be a grumpy old codger these days, but I love Neil Young's voice. For that reason, I prefer the solo acoustic Side A (where Young's voice really stands out) to the full band Crazy Horse electric Side B. The symmetry of My My, Hey, Hey and Hey, Hey, My, My bookending the album is cool. Whilst I do really like this, I wonder whether it would have been even better as two separate albums. 4/5 for Side A, 3/5 for Side B = 3.5/5 overall.

Good - side 1 acoustic Neil like his classic early 70s LP's, then ROCK 9n side 2. Not as immediately loveable like Gold Rush and Harvest, but pretty good. A high 3 out of 5.

Very Niel Young. The only song which really caught my attention was the Llama one.

Fairly whimsical in places and found repetitive.

Pretty good. Some solid guitar

I'm slowly being turned into a Neil Young fan. At first I found his music slow/ dragged and weak instrumentally. Then I gave him a chance and loved what I heard. His live tracks have a different feel than compared to his studio stuff. "My, My, Hey, Hey is a beautiful/ captivating opening. That every track afterwards follows emotionally. Second Young album I gotten from this. And I'm afraid to say I'm sorta a fan. Reccomend it

Not my favourite Neil but it definitely demonstrates what a freaky guitar player he is. Loved the transition to electric in Powderfinger, absolute best song on the album as well.

American songwriting is hard for me to appreciate.

ON WHICH a hippy sings folky songs about living in a teepee, SHREDS GUITAR LIKE A GENRE-PRESAGING MOTHERFUCKER, and pens the final line of Kurt Cobain's suicide note.

Love me some Neil Young. It's fun to hear more electric performances like this even if I prefer the more chill typical versions.

eh, was alright

quite enjoyed that and artist that likely passed me by a bit Seem to like him more the more I listen to him

Great start, tailed off

Like it.

Good but slow

Tracks 2-6, not heard before but good. I love Neil Young's stuff but not sure this is the best of his albums.

Folk rock . Algunos temas interesantes.

not bad, not very memorable though

never got the appeal of live albums, what does that add to the listening experience? Appart from that, some nice songs on here.

Overall not bad but I really, really do not get the boomer hype for Neal Young. Musically it sounded okay but was fairly monotonous, although the electric section was better. Vocals had some really rough moments, and the lyrics were really preachy and cliched 5/10

Musically uninteresting but mostly inoffensive. His voice is rough in spots too. 5

escuché un poco, quizás vuelva en otro momento, pero debo seguir

Sounds different from what I remember.
