Reviews (page 13 of 14)
I can’t stand his voice
Nop, para nada mi gusto. Tiene mucho insulto. Es ese tipo de rap que para nada me atrae. Y me molesta, xq me gusta mucho la música de eminem
I hated this. I made myself listen through the entire album for the sake of gaining knowledge, of being able to thoroughly participate in the argument of whether something like this has objective artistic value. It was hard to get through, disturbed me, left me grimacing and covering my own neck, feeling more miserable today than if I hadn't listened to it. I've decided there is simply no need to have to engage with any dissertation trying to justify a 5 star review because of the culture of 2000, or his upbringing, or the vulgar contemplations of fame and influence, or the idea that offensively subversive = thought-provoking = inherently good. I'm not wasting my fucking time. This sucked and felt bad to listen to and I feel bad. There is no value to me in constant homophobia, rape, throat slitting, the fucking disgusting ICP blowjob skit, acknowledging the violent influence of his work while saying it ain't his problem and you can suck his dick about it, everything about Kim. Awful. I'm sparing my sanity by disengaging myself from any discussion of this album once I hit send on this review. I don't want to think about this anymore. Fuck this. I'm good.
No thanks.
This has incredible production, hooks, flow and dense lyrics. But its one of the most unlistenable things ive ever heard as its so filled with hate, moaning, bitching, homophobia, misogyny, sexism and really pathetic whining. To make the decision to use what appears to be such a significant talent to sound like a pathetic person who thinks the world is against him, but owes him something, makes him sound like such a whiny little bitch. If the incel movement has a theme song, its basically this album.
Nope
what is wrong with you
top 3 - The Real Slim Shady, Stan, Criminal. Never been a big fan of his voice, only like the songs in my top 3 and that’s about it.
Nope. Zero stars.
1/5. Perhaps only listenable if you're a musicologist or anthropologist. A herald of the multiple-layers-of-irony attitude that infested American media for much of the 2010s. Vile and insincere lyricism, unimpressive music, and corporate shock marketing is here in full force. That's all that's here.
Another terrible pile of crap, -5 if I could
Memememe. Long and exhausting.
Ugly misogynistic music could not finish this one
There’s a level of introspection on this album that from his debut that is interesting But Eminem continues to be homophobic and misogynistic in a way that is just uncomfortable.
Tomuto som nikdy neprišiel na chuť.
Whole album seems to revolve around what a prick he is. Deeply unpleasant listen. And such a whiny rap voice. Amazed people like this
PSA 2000 - stupid, childish Kill You - stupid, wildly misogynist even by Eminem standards, might appeal more to a particularly shitty 13 year old kid Stan - probably the most interesting thing Eminem has ever put out. I like it but I don't know if it'll be enough to redeem the rest of the album. Paul - why bother including this? Who Knew - more edgy bullshit, more stupid hooks Steve Berman - bad acting, stupid script The Way I Am - at least this one has a good hook. The version of Eminem that's at war with mainstream media is a lot more interesting than the obnoxious Slim Shady bullshit where he just shouts the most offensive thing he can think of to get attention. The Real Slim Shady - the overplayed anthem of the worst people I knew in middle school. I almost like it now that I've got a little more distance from it. Remember Me? - mid gangsta rap I'm Back - forgettable. It's been like 2 tracks since you said something weird about your mom, better fix that. Marshall Mathers - oh no it's so hard being famous. Time to shout slurs and talk about your mom again. Cool bass line, bad singing, stupid lyrics. Ken Kaniff - The only thing more embarrassing than beefing with ICP is that the most creative thing he can come up with is calling them gay. Drug Ballad - forgettable Amityville - more of the same schtick. Bad hook. Bitch Please II - it's a pretty decent Snoop song until Eminem shows up Kim - man fuck off Under the Influence - the worst hook yet Criminal - okay
Portrait of an angry young man devoid of depth and interiority his flow is so good, the beats are great, and there is no substance. absolute waste of talent. there's a reason this album was an immediate red flag back when it came out. the only kind of person who could see themselves in this were either just as vacuous or genuinely found the violence and bigotry aspirational. either way you didn't want to be around them. the casual, extreme misogyny and homophobia might give you the mistaken impression there's some kind of transgression here, something interesting even if it's vile, but no actually. other artists have explored that ugliness in interesting ways or with a critical eye but you aren't getting that here. I don't just hate this, I think it's an active waste of time and talent. Fuck me I'd rather be listening to my bottom ten all in a row than spend another second with this.
Absolutely not. Fuck that.
Where do I even begin. I had to private my listening status on both Spotify and Airbuds to listen to this. From the start, the first 25 seconds you could tell this was about to be a loooooong album. I say that a lot but this one really outworks the rest. He "raps" like he's a 7th grader who just learned how to cuss. This is more like trashy slam poetry than music. The songs were absolutely terrible. The only reason why some songs got some points was because there was someone else singing. I can't tell you enough how much of a relief it was to hear anyone else speak. He says "if you don't like my music suck my dick" in TWO of the songs and in an interlude literally gets his dick sucked, probably because he knows his music is trash. In another song he talks about how he wouldn't mind having sex with his mom? Seriously dude, there is a fine line between rap and blabbering. Not to mention, how the absolute worst of the worst in this album is a staggering 6 minutes long. If you decide to make a song that long in that generation you better hope at least one of the lyrics are listenable, maybe even a head nod. NO absolutely unbearable trash. I hope rappers look at this album and say "I want to be nothing like that guy". Is this why this album is part of 1001 albums? To show how NOT to make music. A good year was subtracted from my lifespan listening to this crap. If anyone catches me listening to this again shoot me in the head and fuck me in the bullet hole.
Hip-hop doesn't become music even when white criminals make it. I'll save myself the trouble of even listening to it. 1/5
1/5 Not for me. Kim is one of the craziest songs i’ve ever heard though
i can understand why only a couple songs went mainstream.
I’m so sorry I hated this.
Exactly 497 albums ago, that is, a year and a half, and nearly half of this list ago, I aspired to become more culturally attuned and educated on the finer points of music. ‘What expansive worlds would these 1001 albums hold?’ I wondered. Today, the generator gave me fucking Eminem. Yesterday, I had the Red Hot Chili Peppers. Before that, Slipknot. Half way through this list, and I’ve discovered a few good albums, yes. For the most part though, I’ve been sifting through vapid inanity, hoping to find a gram of gold. I’m definitely not becoming more culturally attuned. In fact, I’m beginning to consider if I even like music or culture in the first place. I mean, Mathers actually made this album on purpose, and it was celebrated. What the fuck, world? Generator, if you give me another god damned Eminem album, I’m going to pull a Stan.
This aged like milk. The lyrics are cringe and the beats are repetitive and uninspired. No wonder his lyrics had to be shocking—without them, this is boring.
Boo
Awww... poor little pasty white boy. Go get some therapy for your hate.
All he raps about is violence. He’s like a Disney adult finding out they can swear. He sucks
can be argued sonically, but lyrically… no
????????
Dated beats, homophobic and misogynistic lyrics, bigotry - it's all present on this album. And although the same can be said about N.W.A's "Straight Outta Compton", at least that was an authentic expression of lived experience. That can't be said about this album by a white boy called Eminem, even though he tried to present these trash opinions as his alter ego "Slim Shady". Whether it was meant to be satire or a provocation, I don't buy it. It's a sophomoric album for sophomoric listeners. Not me. 1/5
There were some examples of really cool lyricism and one or two songs that weren’t bad, but the amount of discussion of the rape and murder of women was hard to listen to. I actually skipped through the ends of several songs where it was just uncomfortable, including especially the song titled Kim. I used to listen to Eminem when I was a kid and didn’t really understand some of the hate he received, but as a 28 yo woman listening to his music made my stomach churn.
At least Stan was good, but still awful
Not my favourite

Not saying song are bad but i don’t like this type of songs. Mostly felt like the same song all over just w diff lyrics. When he do feat w someone sound much better but still not my thing. The sucking dick in Ken Kaniff was weird asf even tho it’s funny but sounds rlly bad lmao, and song Kim is scary asf. In overall wouldn’t listen to it. A heard a few good songs, but this album didn’t make me feel like Wow his songs are so good. No offense. 23.12.25
If there’s one good thing I can say, Eminem really knows how to put on a show. This guy just complains and whines all over this album. A lot of artists do this, but at least they put the effort in to make it sound good. This was just a miserable listening experience overall. Ken Kaniff was absolute rock bottom of getting through this noise. Won’t be listening to this again.
No lo terminé. No me gustó ni poquito.
Ugh
There was no need for me to hear this before my death.
Has there ever been someone as talented as Eminem who was as weighed down by his own hang-ups? I've never been mad enough or misogynist enough to relate to his music, even though his flow is extraordinary and the beats are fantastic. I know there's all sorts of arms-length commentary about and ironic distance from the violence, but it doesn't come across as particularly meaningful or clever. Too much of his persona is defensive, navel-gazing and self-aggrandizing for me to be very interested.
So catchy but so full of hate and sadness. If I think the artist (or th artist persona) hates me, I just am not going to score it high.
He just says every thing he can think of that would make someone go "oh my god! did he just say that?" Stan is a good song until i remember the only reason it's good is the sample </3 idk i obviously wasn't there for this album like you edgelords were... in fact, i wouldn't be born for another four years. it's just not for me, and i know that... i am aware of that fact... and i am sorry. i'm sure some of these songs could be really good if i listened without any clouded judgement, but my judgement of Eminem is swathed with smog
When I first heard this back at the turn of the millennium I thought it was some sort of novelty record for kids. In a sense, it is. Listening to the whole thing shows it to be nasty, misogynistic, crass and unfunny. Most egregiously of all, it made Dido into an international star. Not stan-tastic.
This is garbage.
I've already given one rap album a "grotesque misogyny" one-star review, but apparently some themes repeat themselves. Why'd I get stuck with this shit for my birthday?
I like a couple of Eminem songs, but none of them are on here. The singles released from here did make a statement on the charts at the time though.
This is really pretty awful stuff. Well over an hour of ranting.
Apart from nostalgia surrounding friends who listened to this in high school, I get nothing out of this but depressing thoughts.
ugh
Так-то музыка весёлая, но слова отбивают всё желание слушать. 2 из 10.
“I make fight music for high school kids”- Eminem While Em is a talented lyricist, I think every track on this made me cringe. If it’s not the sexism it’s the homophobia. Anyone who says they “don’t give a fuck” that much is obvi bothered. 1/10
maybe the most offensive thing i have ever listened to.
The rapping is good, but I don’t find any of the song concepts overly interesting. Fame, girls, violence, pranks… I dunno, with such gifted lyrical skill, couldn’t the output have been less juvenile?
Adolescent drivel. I hated this clown when I was a teenager and he was topping the charts. Still can't stand him now. Beyond irritating. 1/5
40 year old me is not as big of a fan as 16 year old me.
Eminem is talented, and his rhymes are entertaining, but I just don't like this at all.
Without 'Stan' this would get 1 🌟 Without the Dido sample on Stan this would be a 1 🌟 And I'm not even a Dido fan! Pointless, just pointless. And didn't he mime at Reading? Actually this IS a 1 🌟. He's annoying.
Where did the notion even come from that this guy had something of value to say? Was that a narrative pushed by the film, the media, or just a collective hallucination? Because these are some embarrassingly childish lyrics.
Not big and not clever.
Bad cheese doesn't age well.
Half of the tracks on this album are self-aware bars about how bad of an influence Eminem is on the "kids". Feels kinda like Fight Club. Is it a chicken or the egg situation? Did Eminem get popular because of the state of society, or did the state of society reach where it did because of Eminem? I'm leaning far more towards the former. With that being said, I still hate Eminem's sound. The fast sporadic rap style and rhyme-schemes he uses have always been grating and annoying to me. Even when I was the prime audience for his work as a white middle-class middle-schooler I still felt the same way. THAT also being said, as an adult it's just that much more tiresome to listen to lyrics that are clearly aiming for an edgy shock-factor. It feels like a peek back into the early internet, or 2000's comedy movies... Terribly un-enjoyable album, but Shady didn't cause Columbine.
As soon as you see how the trick is done, the magic is gone. The Marshall Mathers LP, lest we forget, carried enough clout back in the day to cement Eminem's megastar status AND make Dido an international star, despite her mediocre output. No mean feat. A quarter of a century on, though, and the trick is pretty obvious now. The self-referential, self-reverential, how-outrageous-can-I-be childishness just grates now - his delivery follows a fairly clear template, maybe it sounded fresh back then, but over-exposure has revealed it for what it is. How did we ever fall for it? Even Dre and co's West Coast grooves seem pretty stilted decades later. Dated and juvenile rap that recycles the same sylistic hooks ad nauseum, over pretty uninspired hip-hop backing - not for me.
These might just be the worst lyrics of all time
5 star MC. -4 star misogynist.
Wigger
Like a pizza cutter: all edge, no point. Is there a word for bad nostalgia? Because I cannot seem for the life of me to put on rose-tinted glasses when looking back at the 2000s. I grew up with this album and Eminem in general and frankly I've never enjoyed it nor has it grown on me. Two decades later I am really, really listening to the lyrics and I am sincerely struggling to get through this. "Satirical" rap doesn't excuse how crude and dogshit this is and good production doesn't save this at all. This is 72 minutes long and I needed multiple breaks to get through it. Corny music enjoyed by dickheads.
Ich check den kulturellen Impact und die Technik, aber es ist und bleibt frauenfeindlicher Scheiß. Macht echt keinen Spaß.
Didn't get through this, puerile and mysoginist nonsense, made with a load of skits that just seem..... juvenile in the worst way. Barely any musicality in it to redeem it
OK, yeah, we get it. You're a complicated, misunderstood genius or whatever. Can you untie me now so I go listen to music by people who don't only talk about themselves? This dude can rap better than just about anyone, and some of the beats are pretty cool. But christ almighty, the amount of homophobia and misogyny you have to wade through...it's just not worth it. And yeah, I get that he's playing a character inside another character who's killing another character or whatever, but I don't give a shit.
What a pile of edgelord drivel. Horrible lyrics. If you enjoy this and have finished puberty then I'm going to think less of you.
nasty piece of work, white trash rapping, influenced too many kids in the total wrong way. He had a talent, could have been something, made a difference - instead he didn't. Sounds worse now then when it was first released.
This genre is a big no for me. Not enjoyable at all.
Never "got" Eminem when he was huge, still don't get him. Album is way too long. Gross, cringeworthy lyrics. 2 decent songs overshadowed by loads of faux-edgy crap.
Bro I feel like im getting entirely artists i already can't stand atm but whatever i ended up liking whats the story morning glory let's go. How long is it. Ughhhhhhghgg why did I check. -_- He's so shit lmao. Nasally rapping along to half a beat about how much people hate him is just like... so you agree? You're shit?? Like stan is alright, who knew is alright.. I'm back maybe?. I was gonna say real slim shady was alright but it fuckin isn't i hate it lmao Like idk i enjoyed straight outta Compton which is obviously also full of violence and calling women bitch sluts but its musically much more interesting and idk felt kinda tongue in cheek in a way that made it authentic.. this just feels genuinely nasty and stupid with it. Some of the beats are alright but I hate this cunt. Yeah i actually can't finish this. If that negates my rating then so be it.
What an absolute pile of dog shit.
Worse than expected. Knew the singles, the rest is crap
I understand why it's on the list. It was everywhere at the time. It just doesn't hold up for me. Real Slim Shady still has some novelty to it.
I remember when this came out and it was huge. Listening to it now, it’s just feels like bad rap music for white people. For teenagers who want to rebel or have undirected rage. The only really redeeming things are the sampling of Dido “Thank You” and the production and input from many superb rap artists. As a rapper I think he’s talented, and ”The Way I Am” which has only Mathers as a writing credit is possibly the only strong song and you hear his rage and passion. Eminem says in one of the songs this is music for your kids, it’s designed to shock. Cool story, why are we teaching kids it’s okay to call women sluts and gay people faggots. He had a platform to say something important and make a difference but in the end he’s just clowning and devaluing the conversation through shitty lyrics. The best thing about this album is it makes me want to go and listen to better rap. 1/5
Puts the L in LP. Tediously misogynistic and homophobic content overwhelm admittedly catchy backing tracks. His delivery is excellent but the content is often vile
Just. No.
nope
It has so much shock value that it isn't even enjoyable. I think you can feasibly make art about just about anything, especially controversial and "dark" topics--but I really struggle to understand the message that The Marshall Mathers LP is trying to convey. Is there a message at all, or is the shock value the point? I really tried to give this one a fair shake, but in a social culture where misogynistic ideals are coming back in vogue in certain parts of America, I found this one extremely hard to listen to.
no. i refuse. sorry!!!
i have nothing else to add beyond what i already said in my slim shady LP review. misogynistic dreck for 13-year-old edgelords. favorites: stan, the real slim shady
Are his lyrics really jokes? They aren’t funny. It’s disturbing music and just makes me feel like I’m going to hell. It’s sad because he’s arguably the greatest rapper ever. Too bad he couldn’t do something positive to uplift others instead of himself.
Still not a rap fan
Homophobia, domestic violence, and fellatio. DNF
I really tried to like and listen to this but it's just so vulgar and unpleasant. Can't do it.
No.
didnt make it all the way through. i thought it would be a little better than the slim shady lp, but it wasnt. same issue - it's edgy rap for 13 year old boys.
No
More awful shit from MM.
I have tried to appreciate the “humor” and talent of Eminem since high school. I couldn’t do it then, I can’t do it now. I can’t ignore these awful, hateful, juvenile lyrics. I cringe at my high school girl self trying to make it through this album because he was “talented” and worked with Dr. Dre. I can’t even appreciate RBX’s appearance on this album. The only things I’ll say for this “artist” is that he was 1) produced well and 2) took the opportunity when inducted to the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame (a joke in and of itself) to list all the legitimately good rappers and hip hop artists who actually deserved the induction in his place. I was originally going to give this album a 2 (as it has a better overall sound than Kid Rock), but it rightly deserves to be given a 1 for its stupid juvenile hatred and incel vibes.
Absolute shit
Gestammel halt!
Controversial hip hop masterpiece. Not my kind of music.
If I want to hear someone yell obscenities at me I’ll go hang out at the local Jr high school.
Did not finish
I didn't listen to this lol
The older I get, the less time I have for dumb lyrics.
shit
This is the second Eminem album assigned to me and it doesn't at all change my opinion of him or his music. I honestly do not understand how anyone, with all the amazing music that is available at our very fingertips, would voluntarily choose this as something they would want to listen to. To me, there is absolutely nothing here that would be even close to enjoyable.
Good lord TWO Eminem albums. Lame
Misogyny and homophobia doesn't make bops. 1.
Don’t like it
That went from slightly annoying to unlistenable real quick. The last three songs were especially painful, jeez
this is rea-lly LAME Although I yearn for a time where Eminem was "the edgy rapper"TM, not Kanye.
I can't stand this one, I'm sorry. "Mr. Eminem" (as Michael Jackson would call him) has great rap skills and is a very intelligent artist overall, but it's hard to appreciate a piece of art that in its core goes so much against my values. To be fair, if you ignore the lyrics and judge solely based on the musical aspect, it's enjoyable. But that's not how you rate an album, huh? 3/10
Exhausting.
As dreadful as the last one we had. I didnt realise I didnt like Eminem until I started doing this. Shite
I really can't stand this guy. Never could. The misogyny is overwhelming, don't like his flow, and there's not enough going on musically to make up for any of it. I bailed like 7 tracks into it.
I understand that it was released at a time where it wasn't treated with the same condemnation that it would receive in the present, but I found all the misogyny and homophobic slurs absolutely repulsive. Also if you were treating everyone with the same joking contempt as you claim, you would have used slurs about all groups. Because you clearly don't believe that stuff. Coward. It's a shame, because Stan and The Real Slim Shady are good. But I'm glad I didn't listen to this as a 12 years old boy and let it distort my brain. 1 Star.
This was actual total dog shit. I hate Eminem actually.
Sucks. So negative. Everybody is out to get Eminem or has done something to him.
I was 12 when this album was released. It's no surprise it was all the rage with my classmates back then. This is an incredibly immature record. I'm genuinely shocked at how childish he comes across here. Very cringey. I got as far as Marshal Mathers but bowed out with all the homophobic slurs. Shout out to Dido though.
So... like everyone else, I thought this album was great as a tween when it came out. Thing is... we grow, we learn, we gain perspective. It's not a good album.
What a waste of talent and production on this pile of hot garbage lyrics. Not for me.
Second track 30 seconds in is enough to know this is shit. Probably what Andrew Tate listens to.
Garbage, 1 star or F-.
Not a fan
Lots of adjectives for this album, sophomoric, misogynist, homophobic, nihilistic, disturbing, psychotic, troublesome. Was going to give it a two star until Kim and Under the Influence stripped away a star - I would have taken way all the stars if I could. Oh another adjective came to mind - deplorable.
No thanks
bad
25 years hasn’t let this age well. This album in its day brought a legion of angsty young white men to relate to an album mired in homophobia and misogyny. Stan is an all right track, but musically this does very little and lyrically it’s offensive.
So so
Poor choice bro.
Nope. I hate this fucker. I know it's his best album. I don't care. I've heard plenty from this record, clearly his one of his most introspective albums, but still full of that shock-for-shock's sake shit he deals in. I know he's influential- but I'd aver it's mostly for the worse in the culture that he ever had any career at all. Burn it.
Previously rated: The Slim Shady LP (2/5) ***************************** The opening skit gives you a great idea what you're going to get. A load of disgusting garbage from a depraved mind. Some of it was creative, yeah, so? It doesn't make up for the awfulness. I felt ill after listening to this. Hopefully no more on this list.
I’ve never been an Eminem fan. After listening to this album, I’m still not an Eminem fan. It’s just not for me. I recognize the talent that he has but him music just doesn’t speak to me.
2 classics if I truly turn off my brain and try not to think about how violent this album and his content is. Misogynistic. Homophobic. Good to leave in the past.
Have you ever been around a kid who just learned a naughty word? The first time they say it, it gets a rise out of you. Then they say it a hundred more times and it’s just annoying. It’s been a while, and I’d kinda forgotten how ridiculous this 2000s shock rap is. At this point in my life it’s not shocking, just rather silly. And mean-spirited. Eminem has/had some talent and Dre’s production is quality. There’s some real pathos buried in here, but it’s undercut with teenage murder fantasies and insults. I’m not looking forward to listening to this again.
I don't like or get this type of music apart from Stan there isn't anything here for me. Also, the "Skits" are annoying as hell
irrelevant
Dudes corny as hell
I really didn't want to listen to this... I decided to listen to slim shady and leave it at that.
A bit one note for me You’re angry. Check. You’re really clever and great with words/lyrics. Check. Great production. Check. Dated throwback from the early 00s where it was cool to be violent and casually misogynistic.
I do enjoy Eminem when he shows up on a Dr. Dre track and he is definitely talented, but I'm just not into the whole joking about kidnapping and abusing women or homophobic schtick. And it got more and more disturbing. The song "Kim" is going to give me nightmares.
Stan ist gut, wenn auch etwas lang und eintönig. Der Rest ist einfach nur Fremdscham. Kim und Under The Influence gehören zu den schlechtesten Liedern, die ich je gehört habe.
A lot of homophobia in the lyrics. Also I stopped listening during the song ‘Kim’ because that was a horrible experience.
Ugh. I don't understand why people like this.
eminem is like the yngwie malmsteen of rap. yes you're very good at the technical skill of rapping, preternaturally good, even. this shit still sucks though
TDS suffer
the corniest motherfucker,, probably has the joker as his phone wallpaper
Music for edgy teens who never even heard of other rappers. The guy was nearing 30 on his album and still writes as if he's just learned how to swear. I don't like the beats here, I don't like the lyrical topics on most songs and I really don't like his type of humor and the skits. Eminem only ever seems to punch down when trying to diss other artists too. Where did Britney Spears and Christina Aguilera hurt you?
I hated it. Just not fun to listen to for me. I like Stan though.
Very vulgar
this is 12-year-old boy music. even the funny or clever lyrics are really impossible for me to chuckle at (except derisively) because of the all-encompassing misogyny and homophobia and also the ABJECT STUPIDITY of literally everything he’s saying. he has a serious victim complex and it’s boring as fuck. i think this record has value as a document of a specific cultural moment at the end of the 1990s, in terms of how it captures the hand-wringing and pearl-clutching about pop culture and sex/drugs/violence and how intensely ironic it must have felt to have tipper gore as the VP’s wife while the clinton scandal was going on, strains of the satanic panic getting revived with the judas priest suicide lawsuit and then columbine, the fearmongering around gangsta rap as mainstream white culture absorbed more and more hip-hop-adjacent aesthetics, etc. some of the beats are pretty good i guess. but it’s just dumb. it did make me want to listen to dido.
Fav: Stan Least Fav: Marshall Mathers I just don’t get Eminem
Christ another turn of the millenium rap album? Ofc the singles are unbeatable greats, but the edge of "I hate being famous I hate my fans, also I hate women and gay people but not really isn't it funny teehee" that makes these singles interesting gets really blunted when there's 60 more minutes of the exact thing, but way more angsty. There's something to be said about Eminem tapping into this then poorly-understood facet of North American white men that is now their defining identity, but I don't want to blame him for it, he too seems to resent it. Moments of self-reflection are great but too few and far in between, Dre's beats made this easier to go through, even if Em's flow gets rather played-out by the halfway mark. Edit: Kim is one of the worst songs I've ever heard why is it 6 min long?
i know its such an increasingly cold take that eminem was always bad that theres no provocativeness left in it anymore (much like eminem himself lol). if anything i expect the backlash to the backlash to hit sometime soon just cuz people are tired of it and its not like people like(d) eminem for no reason. but also, holy shit, it cannot be emphasized enough, eminem was *ALWAYS BAD*, and not just bad but like some of the worst shit Ever. if ur going to latch onto eminem's obvious talent and technical prowess as a shield against the fact that he has absolutely nothing to say and genuinely embarrassing artistic/musical taste, i hope ur willing to extend that same defense to jacob collier or whoever. front to back meaningless and myopic faux-subversion occasionally dressed in unearned gravity that only exists long enough for em to deflect criticism with another "dont take what i say seriously i didnt ask to be famous" self-deflation...in a world where the surface level of puritian conservative culture has revealed itself to be just a malleable/discardable tool for the actual underlying horrors of white supremacist imperialism, which dumbass provocateurs like em never gave a shit about, who actually thinks this has any meaning whatsoever? important record for the fantasy of Free Speech, where a bunch of already privileged people diffuse whatever tension they feel under the world order by being loud and offensive and claiming thats the Authenticity we really need. if ur gonna do a shitty bit, at least commit to it without drowning urself in self-deflation (the lack of which might make kim the most enduringly vivid and artful song on the record, a level of genuine depravity he doesnt allow in his other edgy songs). for all the genuine shit eminem went thru in his life, its still comes across like he has absolutely no life experience whatsoever...too small, too self-centered, too reliant on the larger culture it pretends to subvert. and god has any acclaimed artist in the genre EVER been worse at hooks than this guy???
There is just so much more wrong about Eminem than there is good. Can't take it.
No
Putting the C in rap!
I dunno. I wanted to like it. If it was in another language and I didn't know what he was saying, maybe. Or better yet, in a made-up language so nobody knew what he was saying. Yeah, that's the ticket....
Fav song: The Real Slim Shady This album aged really badly. The singles are still good - I see why they were picked as the stand out release tracks. It feels a little bit like an episode of South Park with no jokes in it at it's worst and a sub-part west coast gangster rap album at it's best. I was really looking forward to giving this one a full listen because I LOVE hip hop but this one really misses for me. Maybe it was 'you had to be there' type of thing.
No voy a escuchar Eminem.
White thrash.... Utroligt at det blev så hypet dengang. Meget forvirrende album. Mange udgaver af Eminem som vil have plads.. Desværre er Ingen af dem noget for mig.
He's trying so hard to be offensive and he's also whining that people are offended. I'm not saying he shouldn't be allowed to rap about violence with women screaming in the background. I just don't want to listen to it.
Finding this a tough listen. It was misogynistic and infantile when I was a teenager, and that hasn't changed.
i find marshall mathers the washed up provocateur desperately trying to maintain relevance through a mix of autocritique and deflection infinitely fascinating whereas eminem at peak cultural relevance is maybe the least compelling artist of all time with the worst influence over the next 25 years of music (flat, shallow, boasting an insecure disdain for the listener) 1/10
this sucked in 2000, it sucks even more now. it sucks that a belittling phrase ('stan') has entered the lexicon from this. world's dumber for having this in it. something I can say for 2024 is that even preteen boys would be embarrassed to they like Eminem now. or I hope so anyway.
Butthole Splatters LP Ha ha, we like to have a laugh. But seriously, approaching it critically, Butthole Splatters LP
Not my style
I have a friend who loves this album, so again I was interested to hear it. He does have a good voice for this sort of music. And as I have said beforei don't mind this genre. But I just didn't enjoy this. It could have been the swearing though it had all been blanked out except for the intro. (Can't see the point in that.) It's just too in your face, it's too...... I can't really define what but can't give it higher than 1.
I tend to appreciate shock, anger and rudeness in songs (I'm being polite in my description of certain lyrics), and feel the mood the artist is trying to create. I just feel rappers just take it too far in their boring rags to riches life stories- they are all obsessed with this. No one actually cares (I hope). I've always hated Eminem, because of his whney, whingeing voice but I'd give this a fair crack. It's horrible. The only redeeming song was 'Stan' as I liked the dark humour and story to the lyrics. For that he still gets a 1 star.
Pure trash.
🥱
I don’t need a rap album to hear the thoughts of dirtbags whose brains have never fully developed because of fetal alcohol syndrome or whatever is wrong with them. They will tell you their thoughts. Loudly. UFOs are making chem trails turn everyone on the flat earth gay and their ex’s boyfriend been talking shit and is about to get fucked up, not to mention their bitch-ass parole officer and their whore mom. Cool. They’ll gladly pour their half-thought out nonsense into your ears any chance you give them. Or you can listen to the Joe Rogan podcast. There are plenty of sources of dirtbag ramblings. You don’t need to listen to an album to hear them. There are so many things worth rebelling against, but when you start to lump into that category the fact that you’re not allowed to drive drunk or hit women or kill people that piss you off, then I assume you’re not a serious person and I’m not going to listen to you. I think that is something that bothers me about a lot of music geared towards angry young men. Youth rebellion is such a powerful force, but life beats you down so fast that it only really lasts from ages 15 to 25. If we could concentrate that force at something, we could change the world. But not the whole world. Just maybe one big thing. But pop/rap/punk music is the thumb over the nozzle of the hose that makes that anger come out fast and hard in a bunch of pointless directions. If an entire generation was like “we’re really angry at the way the world is!” and all of their pop/rap/punk stars were to say “Yes. The world has a lot of problems. Let’s fix one.” then they could end employer-sponsored healthcare in a generation. Then the next generation could end fossil fuel usage. Then the next could reform policing from the ground up. They could use their anger to make real change instead of having it spray out uselessly in the stupidest possible directions. All of these “rebellious” musicians are just tools of the man taking the power of youthful frustration and diverting it away from anything that could create real change.
Weak
Nope. I remember buying the is n disc when it came out and absolutely hating it. Since then I’ve grown into an Em ‘appreciator’. There is some undeniably killer material on this. The Way I am, Stan and others are brilliant. The misogyny, homophobia and immaturity are too much to take. I cannot support it, even if some of it is meant to be therapeutic or tongue in cheek. Nope. Fuck that. Fuck him. We have to do better.
I have now read a lot of negative reviews of this album and I agree with all of them. I hate this.
Sorry Slim, it's a no for me.
He sucks so bad
Eminem (or whatever persona he's choosing in the moment) is a very technically proficient rap artist. However, I have never been on board with his music because I didn't like him particularly much, but this also means that I have never listened to this album. This was absolutely disgusting. It was an onslaught of extreme homophobia (he is OBSESSED with gay sex), misogyny and violence and I don't care what point he is trying to make, many of these lyrics are not okay. I struggle because I listen to a lot of music where I have issues with similar attitudes, but I have definitely found my line. I felt physically sick listening to "Kim"; actually, I felt physically sick listening to quite a few of the tracks. It took me three days to get through this album. I know he has matured since this time, I stand by the fact that his rapping skill is phenomenal, and he has put out some really motivational tracks since, but I am absolutely horrified how popular this album was in its time and I don't care if he has skill, this doesn't deserve anything other than a 1. Fave Track: Stan Rating: 1
Artiste connu de nom uniquement. Répétitif et inintéressant. Arrêt au 3eme morceau. =>1/5
life is too short to listen to a full eminem project
A few classic tracks (especially Stan which is probably his best song) but freakishly too long and repetitive in its themes, filled with filler and shitty sketches. Obviously the homophobia and misogyny are rampant, but there’s also nothing lamer than a rapper who keeps dunking on boys bands and Britney Spears. Eminem is a talented and unique voice in hip hop but supremely overrated bc white non-rap fan critics could identify with where he came from and what he was saying. Gen Z proceed to cancel Eminem. He needs to leave Christopher Reeves alone :/
exhausting
Opens with "s*** my f****** c***"
I am an old bastard and I clearly struggle to get rap. Through the 1001 I've been educated to some extent by reviewing Slim Shady, Beastie Boys, NWA, and Kendrick to name a few. Most of these, despite some low ratings given, I can see some value in. Even this hass catchy, well produced beats. But the lyrics of this is nothing but macho, antisocial, racist, misogynist, dick-swinging. I didn't even feel the anger in it that it tries to portray as NWA did so well in pointing out the ravages of the Compton experience. This is purely, an attempt to up the ante on shock value and self promotion within circles with like mentality. He succeeds with turning the shock value up to 11. It is VILE. But his self promotion leaves me looking at him as smaller. I have given a 1 star to the likes of NWA as being too angry and, admittedly, unrelatable. But I did recognize they were shedding light on their reality. I find it insulting to that 1 star that I can't give this 0.
I really, really, really don’t get the whole Eminem thing. It’s like he takes all the criticisms of misogyny and glorification of violence and strains out everything else to focus just on that. Let’s talk about how awful women are and threaten them with violence! Oh and for good measure let’s do the same thing with gay men. Needless to say I didn’t listen to the whole thing but I gave it more than it deserved.
He’s a technically talented rapper , but aside from a couple of tracks the beats & production in this album are so weak, almost amateur sounding ! The lyrics are mostly angry teenager level of sophistication.
Look Eminem super talented but having listened to this for the first time in years it's so homophobic you can't even say it's of its time. Hip Hop and Rap have always had this problem and it's still an issue but not as much as it was. There are stand out tracks but can't list them and only a 1 star.
Emidnem, this album stinks
"Um, actually it's super cool to include a minute long skit of blowjob noises, playing pretend that two grown men are fantasizing about you while they blow each other." - Eminem fans This album is cringe-fest wannabe cool guy garbage.
Why did we let this misogynist get famous
I made it half way through the first song. 1/10
Ughhhh he’s so skilled but the violent misogyny was too much for me
Not my thing.
Fuck this shit.
TLDR: This album could've been called "I Should Go to Therapy." I'll get the one good thing to say out of the way: The music to Kim sounds like the Corporate Ministry theme from the WWF and that goes. I wish this album went past the submission process for this list and I didn't listen to it. Some of the albums I've listened to for this I'd consider BAD but this was maybe the worst to get through so far. Why? Beats - solid 3/5, would be 3.5 if I could rate it as such Flow - 3/5, not my bag but not bad Delivery - 4/5, it's powerful and committed Lyrics - instant, irredeemable 1/5. So much so that it weighs everything else down. I grew up in the 90s and graduated high school in 2003. Eminem was inescapable. I never got into him, at the time not being into rap but since opening my mind. I've added "Without Me" to my running playlist. But, damn, dude, these lyrics are SO misogynistic and homophobic, what the fuck am I supposed to do with this? Forget the murder fantasy schtick, I love death metal and Gravediggaz did it great, but, oh yeah, the rape fetishizing too. Fuck off with this.
Trying really hard to view this through the lens of the time it was released. This is when hip hop went to shit as far as I’m concerned, trading in simple bass and drum beat backing for fully produced “songs”. It moved the focus from MC to producer and I think the art suffered. Undeniable that Eminem's flow and delivery were totally unique when this was new. But lyrically, it’s impossible to enjoy this album. Murder and rape fantasies, over the top misogyny, homophobia at every turn; this is an album made by a fucking narcissistic sociopath. This influencing an entire generation sort of makes our current shit society a little more understandable. This is juvenile, selfish, garbage.
i’ve already listened to this album recently for the first time. though eminem has technique, this album aged pretty badly due to the random attempts at being edgy. at this point, it really took away from the listening experience. this is the only eminem album i’ve ever really sat through and listened to critically. i know he can do much better with this, tell us real stories about your life or something, the edgy aspect is overdone and takes away too much.
im supposed to hear this misogynistic shit before i die? fuck this lol this shits ass
If I could give it a zero, I would
Obviously, hip hop is not my thing. I learned this after listening to this album. I mean, all the songs sounded basic. Basic beat. Nothing else. I'm not doubting Eminem's talent, but Jesus Christ, is he vulgar. There was a whole song dedicated to murdering his at the time wife. I get that he's a chill guy in real life, but if I didn't know that, I'd hate his guts. I did not enjoy this album one bit. Actually, that's a lie. I like The Real Slim Shady, but that's it. 1/5
This album is fucked up. I guess that's by design? The only Eminem I really know is 'Without Me'. I was a kid when that came out and it was like my first favorite song ever. But for whatever reason hip hop kinda fell away from me and I started listening to other genres. I could only listen through this once, and I breathed a sigh of relief when it was over. Some of the songs are incredibly disturbing. 'Kill You' is one of the worst songs I have ever heard. I get the shock value is probably part of the reason the album is so highly rated, but it just sort of disturbs me (again, probably by design). 'Kim' is so fucked up that I feel like listening to it has ruined the rest of my day. The thing is, the beats are actually pretty good. And I've always somewhat liked Eminem's voice. Also, the album has one song on it that I like. In fact, I love it. 'Stan' is an incredibly clever track and a pretty powerful statement on toxic fan culture. Other than that, I absolutely hated this album. 1.25/5
He just talks about himself at a quick pace for 78 minutes.
There is a video where Eminem shows off his ability to rhyme the word orange and I find it so funny that anyone takes it seriously. That sentiment applies for all things Eminem. It’s embarrassing to enjoy this.
like okay and?? he thought he ate so hard 1/10
I cheated w this album. I listened to Kim(like 2 minutes of it) first because everyone wrote about it in ur guys' reviews. after that I kinda just skipped through each of the songs to vibe em out and I dont want to listen to the rest so rating based on what I did listen to. I feel like maybe that's not the point of this but also Im getting a little bit behind and I just dont feel like listening to this and I dont know that I will ever be in the mood to.
Jesus. I had to skip Kim. This waffles between classic Eminem songs I know and stuff that’s just awful and unpleasant to listen to. Kim brings this down to a 1… I don’t care if it’s his experience / his truth, that was so awful 1/10
2/10 - At first I was like this just sounds equally as bad as the first album but then I heard the real slim shady which is not a bad song. The rest are decently bad but for the first time I had to turn off a song because I needed a break. When listening to Kim I needed to pause it and listen to anything else because it was too vulgar and I did not like the imagery. I really hope there are no more eminem albums if he stays this horrible. I do not even mind if the music is bad i just do not want to him talk about brutally murdering people.
Two old eminem albums in and I cannot understand people who defend him as an artist claiming his old stuff was good. Dido was far and away the best part of this album, and even Stan, which easily the best song, is way cornier than I remember. And the lyrics on every song are, of course, unbearable to listen to.
Hope I never hear this one again.
I remember that when I was a child (this album came out when I was 5), I really liked Stan. 20+ years later, I'm realising that I was a fan of Dido, because I sure as hell don't like Eminem. This album is the epitome of raging against nothing in particular. This is an angry man who doesn't know what he should be angry at, so he spends the whole album rapping about his haters and punching down on women and gay people. That's not edgy or cool to hate on marginalised groups that everyone is already hating on. I can't believe making jokes/comments about committing domestic violence was ever fine, and homophobia in 2000? Groundbreaking. It's all the aesthetic of rebellion without actually fighting against an oppressive force. The whole rebel without a cause bullshit is embarrassing. Grow the fuck up, Marshall. This is hot garbage, and it should fill you with shame that you rapped about how your fans are all kids that are acting like you just to look cool, and encouraging violence in them. Does that sound familiar? Putting on a hateful persona to look cool and edgy? Fuck you, man. Regardless of how much or little you believe what you're rapping, words have weight, and it's irresponsible and ridiculous to not acknowledge that.
Disturbing stuff
Offensive misogynistic insel juvenile rape celebratory waste of sound vibrations. The worst of what is mistakenly called music. Should not be in this list.
I can't stand Eminem. It's just angsty middle schooler music. This album doesn't even deserve one star
Artist who has tested time, unlike most rap artists, here today, hone tomorrow. Still do not like rap.
I don't want to get all Tipper Gore in this review, but I found this album to be pretty disgusting. The cuss words don't bother me, but the glorification of misogyny and domestic violence is extremely offensive. I wouldn't be happy for a child of mine to listen to this, and would worry about the impact it might have had on some men that grew up listening to it at an influential age. Where the record isn't promoting violence, misogyny or homophobia, it is generally juvenile and puerile. It picks fights with titans of the stature of NSYNC. If I had to use one word to sum this record up, it would be 'pathetic'. Rating: 1/5 Playlist track: Stan Date listened: 03/05/24
No white rap! Not even music!
no. just no.
Said f word too much
Disgusting in every sense of the word. Before this, I saw Eminem as a mediocre rapper for edgy 12 year old white boys. And indeed he is. But some of the stuff in here is absolutely horrible, and unfit for listening for anyone, let alone his apparent pre-teen audience. The abhorrent lyrics are still present in the hits Stan and The Real Slim Shady. The only bearable song on this album really is the one where Eminem doesn’t open his mouth until 2 minutes in, Remember Me?. Putting the lyrics aside, it’s still mediocre beats at best. Mr Mathers is another self-centred rapper who thinks he’s the shit. But in fact, he’s just shit. Absolute shit.
I really wasnt expecting Stan and Slim Shady to be the only good songs. The 'skits' were the cherry of awful on top
A relic of the 2000's, probably should stay there to be honest.
DNFed bc the lyrics are disgusting and I actually cherish my finite time on this Earth.
What an angry, little man. I saw Eminem live once at a Festival, and before he came out, he played a Lipton Ice Tea commercial about how he's Eminem and doesn't do commercials...WHAT?! Then he lip-synced the through the rest of the show. It was so bad A LOT of people just left, including myself. This album would be complete trash is Dre wasn't involved.
Sorry, not my music. Sound and melodies are OK, but the lyrics are not for me ...
This album lost me with the opening Public Service Announcement track.
You know, I've managed to go the last 7 days without rating a single album less than a 3/5. But unfortunately, that streak ends with this album. I found very little, if anything to like about this album. I can appreciate that Eminem is a talented rapper, but his delivery, on top of his awful lyrics, just make me cringe. Seriously, let's talk about the lyrics on this album. Well over half the songs are violently misogynistic and homophobic. The average 14 year old Eminem superfan is going to hear shit like that, calling women "sluts" and portraying gay people as gross, and then of course follow his lead on forming opinions on oppressed groups like that. After having listened through the majority of this ungodly long album, I was then treated with an interlude containing a blowjob in excruciating audible detail, and then a song where Eminem attempts (and fails miserably) at playing the role of a women being verbally abused. I really don't understand how any sane person can belive that this album has any merit what so ever.
yeah i love free speech.
For someone who grew up hating Eminem, it’s actually not that bad? But yeah, the lyrics sucks (as a non-native English speaker, I couldn’t understand most of it).
Can't say I ~enjoyed~ most of this listening experience. I begrudgingly appreciate that eminem was like the first rapper to rap about "homosexuals and vicodin" instead of about being rich and getting bare hoes. But the concerned moms were right, this is a very offensive album. It's definitely THE POINT but I find it hard to see past it. I mean it's SO over the top.
If he was looking to irritate, offend, and otherwise annoy the listener and broader society, it was a successful attempt. If the intent was to force a hard examination of societal hypocrisy, then the point was muddied by the single tone of verbally expressed rage, and unbalanced by any alternative vision in any song on the album. It makes the listener doubt that this artist has thought beyond anger.
If I criticize this, then I am one of the people he complains about, so I'm not going to feed that. Although reading about this album did introduce me to a new term, "transgressive art," so I did learn something. "You know how a lot of white Establishment types think Rap music is nasty? Watch this!" As juvenile as anything else this dude does.
Past its prime
Rap ist nicht so mein Ding. Dieses Album hat mich nicht begeistert. Es ist ja ein Klassiker, aber nicht fuer meine Ohren.
Oof. This was a rough listen. There are just too many un-catchy tracks, during which the only hooks are harsh electronic jingles or some 17-year-old-sounding kid doing a subpar gangster impression. The mannerisms are pretty awful, even for the time; there were frequent slurs, including (among others) the inexcusable n-slur, and the extremely tonedeaf r-d and f-g-t slurs. Considering the artist is very much white, and presumably progressive for his time, these are especially egregious. As a listener, you also receive a lot of references to "sucking my d*ck" and telling people to "f*ck off", which would be pretty irritating by itself - and then, because of Eminem's odd rapping style, it comes across as a young, overconfident dude who mistakenly thinks he's badass. (The track "Under The Influence" is the most obvious offender in this regard, being possibly the worst track on the album.) Honestly, it's kind of sad to listen to. The skits end up being some of the stronger tracks, and they're absolutely filler, no question. Tracks such as Kill You, Who Knew, I'm Back, and Kim are bottom-tier in these regards, and without convincing melody, harmony, or instrumentation to back them up, they end up being worse than throwaway. The out-of-left-field Dre shoutouts, which appear on several tracks, are pointless and dated. The clear standouts are the two biggest hits (by Spotify listens): "Stan" and "The Real Slim Shady". Both are really catchy and capture the smooth intersection between a solid, modern backing instrumental and some great (albeit repetitive) vocal hooks. "Stan" is strongest during Dido's sung vocals, but the rest isn't half-bad either.
Awful, full of profanity
Couldn’t get through it.
No.
Nope
Well, at least it's clear right off with what's in store, with the 25 second "announcement". Coarse and profane, misogynous, homophobic, violent, that's this album. In the song Marshall Mathers, he raps "I think I was put here to annoy the world".. well A for effort, if not execution. I'm not impressed, I'm not outraged either. It just seems so very trite. And long, at over 70 minutes. That said, the song "Stan" has a pretty cool sound / groove. But the lyrics follow the ramblings of a pathetic fan who kills himself and his pregnant girlfriend because Eminem didn't respond to fan letters fast enough. Cheerful, huh? Most of the grooves are tolerable, better than a lot of the Hip Hop I've been fed through this project. But Hip Hop is supposedly about the lyrics, and the lyrics here are pretty much intolerable. Note: Spotify only has 17 of the 19 songs from this album, but you know, I've had enough and won't dig up those other. I was going to give this a 2 since some of the grooves are decent, but sheesh. The crap messaging knocks it down to 1/5. I have to wonder about what kind of person love this stuff. 1/5
I have no idea if this is good rap because I think rap is spelled with a silent C, yet it seems far better musically than much of the crap that I've heard.
too profane
lol?
Awful. When did music die.
Ugh. Do I have to? Yeh, no. This is only good if Natalie Portman is lip-syncing it on late nite. Zero adds to Kaizen (or any) playlist.
🤮🤮🤮
I liked much of the music and arrangement but was put off by the language.
😬 too hardcore for me.
I tried to listen to 3 songs and then I stopped.
First album I did not listen to again. But I have heard it, many times in college. Did not really like it then and can’t imagine I would grow to like it. I’m sure it’s wonderful for angry teens who disparage women and are anti-gay. It’s all satire, yeah right. He’s slim shady so he can be so disgusting and can say anything, strange how he can throw around slurs against gay people and women but doesn’t seem to go the next level to race, wonder why? Anyway, if you want a woman’s perspective on Slim Shady listen to Tori Amos version of “Bonnie & Clyde 97’” and hear the mothers ghost gently comfort her daughter before her body is thrown into the water from the trunk of the car. (I know this song was not on this album)
I liked the beats but not the lyrics. This isn't an album I would ever listen to again. 1 and done.
Why?
Maybe I'd have liked this album if I was still 12, when I thought NWA & 2 Live Crew were hilarious & had no idea how misogynist & homophobic a lot of the Beastie Boys lyrics were. And those were tame compared to this. Another self-important rapper glorifying drugs & graphic violence against women. Shock for shock's sake. I can't even finish this shite.
weeeell, since i'm not a fan of rap... and the ken kaniff skit is not really something i want to listen to on an album :( sorry but that's a 1/5 for me
There's some great lyrics in this album as expected with Eminem's early work, it's undeniable that he's a great rapper. There's some classics on here too, and I appriciate the shock-value. However many tracks on this record are laden with homophobic and misogynistic lyrics, it's not even a case of it being 'a product of it's time' - homophobia and misogyny were never cool. The whole thing just comes across as edgy and cringy.
The machismo, misogyny, vulgarity and anger that fuel this album are palpable and off putting. The verbal skills are impressive, and there are moments of humor in some rhymes, but the interspersed dialogue is overwhelmingly awful.
I found that album extremely difficult to listen to, and I don’t think I can separate the moral aspect from the musical with this one. “Kill you” and “Kim” in particular cross the line. I’ve watched movies that deal with similar heavy themes, but it hits different here because it seems personal to him whereas movies are more abstract. 1 star for being honest, but sometimes you should get some help instead of exploring your problems with music.
Wildly biased because I don’t like Eminem, also hard to listen to considering how often he used homophobic slurs, I made it 5 songs in and gave up
Hard to listen to, very violent and misogynistic
Never liked Eminem. His voice is grating to me
Eminem is good at rapping, but to me, he's just not good at music.
I do not like hiphop/rap. Tried to give it a fair shot but I can't
No interest Not interested at all Listened to this in 2019, thought it sucked then, nothing has changed Positives Stan, The Way I am\ Negatives His voice is unbelievably grating, i think the whole thing sucks\ 1/5
No, just no.
puerile misogynist crap, not for me, maybe for teenage boys...
Fuck no
i fucking hate eminem but stan is okay the first 2 times. after that it's the same boring slop as everything else. truly one of the most overrated "artists" of all time
100% not a fan of rap. I'll admit his cadence and word usage to keep the rhyme going are super unique, just not a fan. I also cannot associate with any of his inner demons so nothing.
Ok
storytelling réussi on y croirait presque
I just can't wait to listen to an album that lasts for over an hour and spends most of the time dwelling on homophobia, misogyny, and violence, especially all three together!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Yippee!!!!!!!!!!! Unpopular opinion: this rapping is not great. I lasted about one minute before switching this tripe off. 1/10. I can't be bothered... but he did have a huge influence. Still, I'll give it a 1/5.
Dumb
No
Omg it was so bad 💀💀💀 (apart from stan i love stan ❤️)
Was crap I cannot stand rap only made it through Stan
I don't like rap and this album was a grind to get through and I couldn't even finish it. That being said, Stan and The Real Slim Shady were the highlights of the album to me. All in all, I'll be happy to never listen to this again.
I just can't. I really don't like Eminem.
Listened to ten and a half tracks. I don't need to hear more.
Skipped much of this homophobic trash and will skip the other album too.
Some impressive lyricism, but it’s not musically interesting enough to keep me engaged for most of the album.
Terrible music!!!
Yuck. No thank you.
I dreaded listening to this one.. Surprisingly melodic at times, but way too much profanity in an effort to be edgy. Random skit in the middle. I almost never pay attention to lyrics on a first listen, which is almost a requirement for rap. Also, I think I listened to a shorter version, and I'm not at all inclined to look up the longer one.
Absolutely hated it.
I did not enjoy it
Even worse than the rampant homophobia is how annoying some of the songs on this album actually sound
Didn't like it, not my kind of music
Not my taste, but appreciate the talent and production values
Nope
Thought the beats and rapping were OK, but couldn't deal with the blatant homophobia. Too bad. 1/5
yeah no
Didn’t like the violent words, felt like an onslaught
jeez this album is 72min - stan is a good song, 1 star because of the effect this album has had on white guys.
Some of the beats and lyrical flow are inspired, but that doesn’t make up for the absolute garbage lyrics. The takeaway is that c. 2000 Eminem was a man child who couldn’t handle criticism and compensated by threatening to rape women.
Boring and edgy
This is the only album I've skipped so far. Yes, Eminem is talented, but then you could say Hitler was a talented politician.
The first 1/3 to 1/2 of the album is ok, I guess. The songs about dealing with his newfound fame have a point but I think young people wouldn't get what he was trying to do (and I'm being generous here), but then it degenerates into misogyny and homophobia.
