Man, I always forget I actually like Adele quite a bit. Like out of the major radio-friendly acts of the ‘10s, she's held up incredibly well, and this wasn’t even her breakout album

not the same as 19 or 21 - obviously. Was probably distracted by kids so couldn't immerse myself into the album.

Every song kinda at the same speed. It's fine. She has a great voice. "Water Under the Bridge" sounds just like "I Love You Always Forever" by Donna Lewis.

Meh. Didn't realize how many songs I had heard before were on this album but nothing really stands out. Totally fine, not an album made for me which is okay.

Somebody should tell Adele that there are keys other than minor keys that can be used in song composition. Yes, Adele can sing, I don't think anybody can argue with that but she chooses to sing about the same thing for 11 tracks and honestly by the 3rd track it starts getting old. I question why this album is on this list as it is very bland and boring. 1/5.

Not something I would typically listen to but it's a great album

It’s tuneful enough and there are little smatterings of soul, but there's nothing to merit the hype or sales. Though she does seem older than her 25 years, much of this reads as forced drama and overwrought glorification of personal feelings – almost any cut will do to illustrate the point, but "A Million Years Ago" is perhaps the most obvious example. Clearly there is a market for such emoting, and that more consumers than one realized take seriously or, more likely, find relatable the emotional outpourings of this particular 25-year-old. (And perhaps that’s the appeal / hook of timing records to specific ages.) One suspects one is simply too old and male to fit in that segment. Her voice sounds derivative as if she’s imitating some generic R&B/soul diva of the past; she also doesn’t display a great deal of range, sounding similarly pained-strained across every track. The playing is nothing special and tracks are samey, with “River Lea” the best of a fairly middling lot.

Classic, many power ballads, love it

First time listening to 25 the album. Very strong and listenable. Basic but I really love her lyrics on When We Were Young :) of the many I didn't know before, my favourite is Love In The Dark. Finally, being 25 at time of listening, what a triumph Adele is.

There is no doubt Adele is incredibly talented - wow, what a voice! Apart from hearing her well known tracks I haven't listened to much Adele. I enjoyed listening to this album, however its not something I think I'd revisit as a full album - it became a little repetitive plus is not a genre I'm that into. I think it was maybe just a bit too over produced for me. Fave track: Million years ago

She has such a great voice - more soulful than one would expect. I found the album really pleasant to listen to, although I think I’d appreciate it even more if I was going through a breakup.

Adele’s voice is amazing, almost perfect in my opinion. They way she uses it to convey the emotion in her songs is even more incredible. Incredible talent as a singer and songwriter. I’m glad I listened to this album, having only heard the songs the radio stations destroyed by overplay. But “when we were young” had me remember when I was young and I felt that regret of getting older “My God this reminds me, of when we were young, Let me photograph you in this light, In case it is the last time,That we might be exactly like we were” “Love in the Dark” heartbreaking and her voice conveys the pain. “I can’t love you in the dark it feels like we oceans apart” she cries out. “River Lea” so soulful…”I can’t go back to the river”. “A million years ago” again going back to youth with a simple but beautiful song. “I feel like my life is flashing by and all I can do is watch and cry” “I miss you” the pounding drums to her personal lyrics. And of course the singles, hello, send my love (to your new lover) and water under the bridge. All great songs but overplayed in my opinion. Which had I had I been hearing for the first time I think would have been great. But I had only heard the singles and this album, I feel, needs to be listened to beginning to end to feel the emotion of her regret & fear of growing older. This is not a typical album I would listen to but so glad I did.

Hello. I remember when that song was popular! It was good, but then as the album progressed I found myself thinking, “it’s just her singing to a chord progression.” I didn’t hear much instrumentation besides a repetitive chord progression for many of the songs. But on the second half of the album, I was proven wrong! Songs like Love in the Dark, River Lea, and Million Years Ago were great! Overall, I think the album is pretty good. Adele’s vocals are amazing and her lyricism is good. As the album progressed the instrumentation improved and I thoroughly enjoyed it!

Really loved her first two albums but haven’t listened to this one. Solid album though, beautiful powerful voice as always. Always listen to her songs with ur ex partner in mind, v depressing. Remedy was probably my fave on the album tbh, with water under the bridge a close second. Some of it is a bit cheesy like Hello but maybe that’s just because it’s overplayed idk.

It's a solid outing by Adele (as expected). 25 is a good pop album, but it's really nothing special. I will gladly listen to it on line, but it's not one I would purchase on vinyl.

Not a huge Adele fan. Personally think she is overrated. She has a few great ones and Hello and Send My Love are in there for me. I completely endorse this being on here for the many reasons listed in the wiki. I can acknowledge that and still not be a big fan. Especially when I see her albums just piled up in stores because they were over produced. And if I remember right, costed a lot of other albums their time in the vinyl light because her album took up so much production time. Talk about waste.

I've never been a big fan of Adele. She's a great singer of course, but how's the music? Often, not very inspired. I've noticed before, and even more when listening to this, that I don't really get along with her hooks. A couple tracks on here that are really interesting in the verses, and then the chorus is so bland. Specifically "When We Were Young," a little of "Remedy" too. "Hello" is still a great song. It's still a pretty good album, that's what she makes, good music. But how much of it is "great" anymore? Favorite tracks: Hello, When We Were Young, Remedy, Send My Love (didn't realize this was an Adele song). Album art: Jumpscare level close-up. Do not like this one at all, there's really nothing to it. 3.5/5

Doesn’t hold up as well as I’d hope. Still has some good tracks but there are too many maudlin middle ground tracks here.

Phenomenal singer, a bit MOR, but equally one of the most eloquent and certainly most honest of contemporary lyricists in articulating emotions. The depth of the quality on the non-singles tracks is amazing too (think I'd only heard Hello before). Chorus of Send My Love really sounds a lot like Paper Planes by M.I.A.

Better than I thought it would be

It was honestly easier to get through the Throbbing Gristle album because I haven’t been unwillingly listening to Throbbing Gristle almost every day for the past 12 years. Another one where overexposure probably makes the artist sound way worse to me than she normally would on a first listen but my god am I tired of hearing Adele’s voice. Just does nothing for me. Sweetest Devotion was a nice surprise but it’s not enough to save this one for me.

Ok, I wasn't a big fan of Adele... until I heard this album. Practically drenched in emotional quotient, 25 is sad, happy, and everything in between. Adele's voice is also incredible. The leadoff song, Hello, is a prime example of Adele at her best. After 25 I went back and listened to the rest of her albums. While her style is not my daily drive, she executes jazz influenced pop better than anyone in the past 40 years.

A couple songs on here are pretty good, but the rest of it isn't anything special. Probably more excited for the other one on here. 21 is on here, right? I can't remember. Anyway, her voice is nice, even if the music can be kind of nothing. My favourite song was Million Years Ago.

I always walk away from these Adele albums saying she has a great voice and the music is solid, but it’s music that doesn’t move me a lot. There’s always that last step she doesn’t take.

Been scanning for anything wrong with this album and I can’t find a thing. Immaculately produced, excellent songwriting, beautiful voice, consistently, and it actually made me emotional which is not something I though I would say about songs that routinely play in my mom’s car.

Such a nostalgic album for me, but I don't know if I've ever listened to it start to finish. All I ask is such a classic but I also enjoyed million years ago. Overall, I very much enjoyed and it was good background music for my micro homework.

Adele was my sister's favorite artist while we were growing up (I know this dates me), so I grew up listening to her (and Adele) sing all of these songs. Although I don't particularly like the style of music that Adele creates, it was really nice to be able to listen to the album and know practically every song that played. I found the overall sound of the album to be pretty boring, and listening to the same vocal range and sound got a little bit boring. No particular stand-out tracks, but I threw Water under the Bridge on the playlist. One song gave me a headache, but overall I didn't hate it. I wouldn't listen to it again if I had the option, so... 3/5

Soaring pop hits. Songstress who could freaking belt it. Song choice is curated for her strengths and sounds great. Good mix of tender ballads and early 2000s bangers.

Closer to 3.5 stars. An iconic voice with some iconic songs, and I had to keep reminding myself that she made this at 25. Why it wasn’t my favorite album: -I think Adele is at her best when she isn’t belting. I think the loveliest parts of her songs are where she sings low, and I wish there were a song where she avoided the high notes. -The songs felt repetitive and like there was no experimentation to them, like they followed a formula. They’re a few exceptions and they’re my favorite songs of the album, but for the most part the album had too much predictability for me. -I wish the songs flowed from one to another. The album itself feels like an Adele album and is cohesive sound-wise, but the transitions between songs felt more like a bunch of songs thrown together in a premeditated order of light songs, then ballads, then light, then a little edgy, then ballad, then light again that I think many pop albums follow. It felt like there wasn’t much mind towards how the songs felt side by side. All that rambling aside, Adele’s voice is beautiful and I think that’s why you listen to an Adele album, not necessarily for her experimentation. These songs are almost 10 years old and some of them I haven’t heard for years but still knew and still loved, and I think that’s the sign and the power of a good song.

Fantastic. Adele's voice is so strong and robust. The album had a lot of diversity of sound. It was just beautiful.

This record is a fucking masterpiece. Yeah, yeah. I know. She didn't take any risks, blah, blah, blah, but why would she? Not every great piece of music needs to be novel and groundbreaking to be good. She is a phenomenal vocal talent; and her decisions on how to use that vocal differentiate her, along with (mostly ballads or not) top notch production and solid song writing.

Not my favorite genre of music but Adele has an awesome voice

Bottom line is Adele is an amazing vocalist, there aren’t many people with her talent and ability, there’s a reason she’s on this list. I was actually looking forward to listening to this album when I saw it was next —partially because it’s the first in this project that I actually remember when it came out (every other album so far was released at least ten years before I was born). And I have to say: Hello is an amazing song, truly, and Adele is a singular vocal talent. But the tendency toward the anthemic and melodramatic is not for me and there’s a lot of that here, as well as some dates production flourishes. Love in the Dark is a standout track, absolutely devastating. I would have a hard time listening to it again, it’s so raw, and the emotional content is tough to navigate but Adele handles it very well. Sweetest Devotion is the predictable hopeful ending song because otherwise this album would be a serious downer, though I enjoyed that track least of all.

Adele’s voice is awesome, super pretty and very strong. The showcase of what she is capable of is the most impressive thing here, but she doesn’t do enough with it to keep it interesting. Her melodies aren’t super interesting and most of the album is sad melancholic piano with her going quiet then erupting into the highest high she can get. Her vocal ability is impressive and that doesn’t come as a surprise, but nothing on this album does

Hello - boring and overplayed so I really dislike it Send My Love - it was ok I don’t love the style of music I Miss You - I actually liked this one it reminded me a bit of her earlier stuff, thinking five mins is a bit long though When We Were Young - did not like this one, felt like it was sampling something Remedy - boring again sorry not sorry Water Under the Bridge - didn’t mind it but again don’t love the style River Lea - this one is kinda a bop actually Love In The Dark - this again reminds me a little of her older stuff so I like it Million Years Ago - straight away this reminds me of older music but I’m not hating it. Omg looked on genius and it uses the Phantom of the Opera as a melody, I kinda love it actually All I Ask - not loving this one, not a very strong track Sweetest Devotion - it was almost like an 80s power ballad I did not really like it

Listen, I understand why 21 is on this list. But 25? Is it just because it's Adele that people assume it's a good album? Most songs go on for way too long, and so many of them are incredibly dull. There is no need for this album to be on this list. It's nothing special.

"Hello" is a fantastic example of voice as an instrument. Adele has such an impressive voice and this song has a beautifully understated accompaniment that builds over the 5 minutes. Total jam. The rest of this album is mostly just pop to me. It's not my style most of the time, but Adele's voice is great.

Very similar to how I felt about 21. It's very nice singing that trumps everything else. It is a good listen, and I enjoyed it quite a bit. However, I think it's an occasional listen. I think I'd fall off on this on repeated listens otherwise. 3.5/5

She’s so talented and has a beautiful, powerful voice, but this isn’t really my taste.

while not my favourite adele album (that would be its predecessor, the phenomenal “21”), this one is breathtaking. adele is truly a once in a lifetime talent who shines with this album that displays both vulnerability and courage. her powerful voice captivates and carries the songs. this one is not to be missed.

Well now, Adele is someone I’ve always been aware of but have never dug. This album is proof to me why. It’s just…ok, and that’s it. There’s a couple of great tunes on it, and there’s no doubting her talent as a songwriter and especially as a singer, but will I ever get home and think “I want to listen to Adele”? No, no I won’t.

Now that she has more money than she knows what to do with, and has unveiled yet another slab of Live Laugh Love in aural form as 30, how about not making 35 yet another MOR product and use that voice for something artistically interesting. For example: Get Rick Rubin in as producer. Get Massive Attack in as writers/producers - they conjured a career-best out of Liz Frazer for Teardrop following great outings with Tracey Thorn and Shara Nelson, so know a thing or two about great female voices. Get Sigur Ros in - no need for a lyric sheet at all. Steve Albini at the controls - maybe a stretch, but what have you got to lose? He'd make a 12-track album in two days, and you don't need to share the royalties. Even - gawd help me - Dave Grohl would be something better. The album? It's not one star. That would indicate something to object to. It's Stella Artois, it's Pizza Express it's a Ford Focus.

Bon. On se fait un peu chier, non ? Elle chante très bien mais c'est lisse. Water under the bridge commence avec une instru électro très nulle mais c'est paradoxalement celle qui sort un peu du lot, avec Million Years Ago et All I Ask. Globalement j'ai l'impression que toutes les chansons étaient deux fois trop longue par rapport à ce qu'elles avaient à apporter.

what an absolute classic holy shit there is so much good stuff here I cant even begin to describe how impactful her words and rythm. it cuts to the core of a being without having experienced the level of heartbreak you can still feel how viscerally real it was to her. Just Iconic and a great artist and album.

Adele is great but not my favorite.

An album built to showcase a singularly talented vocalist. This album does its job admirably. Not every song is my style, but the majority rock harder than I anticipated.

You're onto a losing battle when you don't particularly warm to a vocalists voice or style, we're all different and despite the quality of the production and song writing, it's just not for me.

I've known of Adele since she first became popular. I didn't mind her music, but it wasn't particularly something I felt inclined to actively look into beyond just the hits and the memes. In fact, "Someone Like You" is the first song I learned on the ukulele. Her music was just something I'd hear passively before carrying on with my life. All of that is to say that I have been sleeping on Ms. Adkins for far too long! It's not the kind of music that I'll find myself putting on all that often, but this album was fantastic! A bit of a downer thematically, which may be a turn off to some, but musically, the production and vocals are phenomenal. If you really want to feel sad, this is certainly a mandatory listen. It's only real fault is that it's a concept album centered around wanting to be forgiven by your partner or ex-partner, which limits its appeal. However, it is necessary for this album to convey itself emotionally rather than just being a collection of songs. It's great. I get it now. It's absolutely brilliant. 4/5

Familiar with a lot of these but ‘I Miss You’ was the stand out

I got most enjoyment from the tracks I hadn't heard a million times. I like Adele's voice but over the course of a whole album the brassiness of it wore on me a bit. I think I'm being unfair because of overexposure though. If I was hearing this for the 1st time I reckon I'd be raving about it

It was a good album.I was familiar with several of the songs. She certainly can sing and it was a nice break from some of the other albums on this list. It is better than a 3 not a solid 4 but I will round up.

I’m not going to pretend this album isn’t boosted by nostalgia for me, it takes me back and it felt like a Manchurian Candidate awakening when I heard Water Under the Bridge for the first time in years. The woman has catchy tunes, no wonder she was so pervasive throughout the 2010’s.

As much as I love this album, I was surprised to see it was on the list. However, this is actually my favourite Adele album (excluding 30 as I have yet to listen to it). I don't listen to Adele often, though, so it was fun to revisit this after quite some time. I remember having mixed feelings about this when it came out. For some reason I couldn't stand "Send My Love (To Your New Lover)" and "I Miss You," both of which I love now. And back then, I was a very harsh critic of music. Not liking a couple of songs meant the album wasn't it. Despite the fact that the album contained two songs I already loved, and I also really connected with several other songs on it on first listen. Despite this, though, this album had quite an impact on me, and now it's just really nostalgic of my high school days. Especially the songs "Hello" and "When We Were Young." I was 14 when "Hello" came out, and I loved it the first time I heard it. It was everywhere that year, but for me, it never got old. At the time, though, my favourite Adele song was "Someone Like You." That changed when I was 17 and heard "When We Were Young" the first time. I was immediately taken by the melody of the chorus, and for a while, it became my favourite Adele song. Weirdly, I always used to say that the song felt "nostalgic even the first time I heard it." I'm not entirely sure why. I guess because a large part of the lyrics are based around memories, and it's kind of an old fashioned style like most of Adele's music? So that was when I decided to listen to the album. Although I've got to say that despite my favourite Adele song changing often back then, no Adele song has had the staying power for me that "Hello" has had. Every time I hear it, I just can't help screaming along the chorus. In fact, the first four songs of the album are just incredibly nostalgic, and I screamed along the choruses of "Send My Love" and "When We Were Young" too. I even sung along loudly to "I Miss You," which I don't know quite as well. As I said, I love it now. What about the rest of the album? Well, several songs hit me from the get go, although I downplayed how much I loved them for far too long. "All I Ask," "Sweetest Devotion," "Million Years Ago" and "Remedy" are all incredibly powerful. In fact, I want to particularly highlight "Million Years Ago"- I honestly can't believe Adele has such a powerful deep cut hidden away, and I always forget how hard hitting it is until it plays and I've got tears streaming down my face. The other three tracks: "Water Under The Bridge," "River Lea" and "Love in the Dark?" Well, they're okay. They don't let the record down majorly, but they're not quite on the same level to me. Favourite tracks: Hello, Million Years Ago, When We Were Young, All I Ask, Sweetest Devotion, Remedy

Without doubt Adele can sing, and probably her earlier albums would be classed significantly better than this album... but... and for me it's a big but.... because I simply don't get the hype about Adele. Maybe I'm just a grumpy old male, im not in touch with my feminine side, but I really can't be bothered listening to power ballads about jilted love, and you dont realise what youve let slip past your fingers...ya de ya de ya... and this album has that theme running right through it, with little variation between tracks on musical arrangement or theme of lyrics. Simply said, her album 19 was her best, but 25 is just boring.

what a great voice!

my second adele album, with the first being 21. her voice is positively beautiful on 25. she holds some notes way longer than you'd expect. actual chills!!! what a gifted singer. every song showcases her voice. even if some songs hit the mark more than others, her voice remains reliable. she did change some of her genre inspiration on 25. adele lives in soul music, but it's less pronounced on this album. there's a stronger r&b presence. she used synth, making "i miss you" have more of an impact. "send my love (to your new lover)" is very reminiscent of amy winehouse (considering the inspiration, that's the exact direction she used). "a million years ago" is a paul simon-like song. i can understand why some listeners found this album boring. this type of music isn't the type to get you hyped at a party. you definitely have to be in the right mood for this album. this music is emotional, and being present only allows you to appreciate it more. this is an album that can't be rushed. her ballads are beautiful and heart wrenching. though adele isn't the only songwriter, her lyrics are emotional and moving. those notes she holds on "all i ask" are incredible but would be nothing without those lyrics. the choice to have a piano only song only serves to hammer home the emotions. her ballads, to me, standout among the other songs.

It was nice to get a "fresh listen" on some of 25 again. Considering Adele was already a superstar following the incredibly well received 21, so many songs from 25 just immediately soared to #1 on radio charts and were just being played nonstop. It's been 7+ years since then, and I'm also someone who has more or less dumped listening to the radio. I have always thought "Hello" was an interesting album opener. It carries with it a lot of emotion and is overall a very powerful and beautiful song. It also seems to convey a bit of a reintroduction to Adele; she's letting the listener know upfront and immediately that she's not the same person as she was on 21. Ultimately, in keeping with elemental descriptor words, I would say 25 when compared to 21, is a more watery, less fiery soul album. It's generally more soft, peaceful, and reflective. As a result, this album ultimately has fewer "bops", but either way, Adele's raw vocal talent and skill are very much intact on what is a very well-crafted and well-sung album.

Adele continues to display an inspiring talent for singing. This album did have a consistent theme and style that left me wanting a bit more variety, but that tends to be my preference, and it felt like variety wasn't the point of the album.

It started off fairly good, but since every song sounds the bloody same it got incredibly tedious and predictable very quickly

I admittedly let out a sigh when I saw that I’d be listening to Adele today. I’m not sure about anywhere else in the world but her music is quite inescapable in the UK, especially after an album is released. I personally don’t see the fuss, but I’ve never listened to this particular album in full before. Let’s see if I can be swayed. Songs I already knew: Hello, Send My Love (To Your New Love), When We Were Young, Water Under The Bridge Favourites: Million Years Ago I’m likely going to be repeating a lot of what I said in my previous Adele review here but I think that’s fair as her music has t really changed. I can appreciate that she is a great singer, but her music is just so dull and mopey. There’s nothing wrong with having a few ballads, but almost ever song here makes me want to die. The anomaly here was Million Years Ago which I found really pleasant and different, but otherwise it’s just a miserable album (and not in a fun way).

I'm not sure there's anyone else I would rate so much on their vocals. After all, if you have a great song, you only need adequate vocals. And if you don't have a good song, great vocals can only save it so much -- it's still not an enjoyable tune. But wow, what a voice. And the songs are good. Combine that with the voice and the production, and this is damn good. (One thing that I particularly appreciate is that Adele doesn't feel the need to warble, like Whitney Houston, for example. I once heard some one criticize a lot of female R&B singers for choosing to turn cart wheels to get from point A to B when walking would have been just fine.)

Adele has an amazing voice, and yet the album starts to feel repetitive after a while. Not at all bad, but didn't quite hit the mark for me. 3.5 stars.

Absolutely fantastic. Without Amy Winehouse, we wouldn't have Adele. She has one of the most soulful & powerful voices in modern music. Beautifully performed. I ended up also listening to 21 since this album got me in the mood for Adele. 4.5 stars

This was okayish I suppose. I don't think I would have recognised an Adele track before as I have zero interest in pop music. I didn't recognise any of the songs on this album, but they were inoffensive, just maybe a bit bland in places. She has a good voice, so I'm going for a three.

After the fantastic 21, Adele has been unsure of her next career move and while this isn't as staggeringly pointless as 30, it represents the diminishing ambition many artists face when they achieve great mainstream popularity.

I'm so torn on this album. It starts off absolutely incredible with the first few heartbreaking tracks full of so much drama. The final three songs really were bland in comparison and especially the final track Sweetest Devotion seems so out of place with how sad the rest of the album is. It was so very nearly a 5-star. 8/10

Immediately striking with a single package stronger than the debut, 25 remains over-mature and over-produced. It sits in the middle of the pack, realistically, the hum of the back of the record just maddening enough to be interesting. Glad Adele keeps coming back; Not sure why this visit took this form.

The production is like an email where the entire contents are in bold, italics, and underlined. It's a well-crafted cocktail that's a little too bitter, too sour, too sweet, too fizzy, and too strong. Compared to 21, Adele's vocal sounds powerful and clear but the music is a bit forward on 25. Some tracks are worse than others and the B-side does sound better. Besides the complaints about the shiny backing tracks, the songs are great and the lyrics are emotional but not overwrought. The album closer is a banger.

The voice is divine, no doubt about it. The music? Less so. Very much so. Would I ever listen to this album of my own free will? Nah. But I feel I should give this voice some credit.

Not exactly my flavor, but the top notch production and mind blowing vocals send this record straight into the stratosphere. There’s a reason Adele sings for world leaders.

She's very talented but there's nothing on here for me. Don't really like this kind of stuff but I hate giving a bad review to someone so obviously good, so 3 stars it is.

This is not my favorite album by Adele, but it was a welcome return after 2011's 21. The music here contains a bit more 80s influence and is focused on powerhouse ballads that showcase Adele's emotional range and vocal power. I think the production is quite good, but there are some elements that already sound a bit dated. Having said that, I still thoroughly enjoyed this album and remain awestruck by Adele's talent.

It's not always bad to be predictable - everything I wrote about Adele's previous album (21) can also be said about its successor. So I'll do just that, only exchaning names. So here goes ... Adele has in incredible voice, but not all of the songs are equally phenomenal. Tracks like Hello, Send My Love (To Your New Lover) and Love In The Dark are awesome, but then there are tracks like When We Were Young and Remedy that are just filler. Still this is a phenomenal album, but not as iconic or timeless as it could be. 4/5

I put off listening to this, because 2 Adele albums in a week is a bit much, but it turns out 2 Adele albums in one month is a bit much too. Million Years Ago could have been a good song, if only she kept the mellow mood from the start, and refrained from bursting into the obligatory crescendo, like she does on. Every. Single. Song. 1 song formula = 1 star Goodnight from the other side

This is quite unexpected, but I was tempted to skip so, so many times. Just when I was getting really sick of the awful 2015 production on some of these tracks, they wisely decided to strip back the instrumentation for the last few tracks. Doesn't help much though. When "All I Ask" comes around, she sings "what if I never love again?", and I just want to shake her. Girl, have some self-awareness. Clearly, you have and you will love again. Apparently it's all you do. Calling this album 'mature' is laughable. I'm in my thirties now, and maybe I just can't handle this level of mid-twenties self-seriousness. Her stuff on 21 was better, across the board. "When We Were Young" is just about the only song that actually resonated with me, I think especially because it's such a funny thing to say in your mid-twenties but it feels vulnerable and genuine, and it has a profound tenderness for its subject that suggests more than what it says, and that has a sense of melancholy that isnt entirely focused on her own inability to let go, or at least, understands that things are inevitably going to change.

Incredible voice, but needs more variety

Hello, you claim you're on the other side. The following 40 minutes of caterwauling about your permanent heartbreak determined this to be a lie. Remains the gold standard for painful production to my ears. Like the equivalent of those deep fried memes. The vocal fry and squeaking now lives inside my brain. No great mystery why she struggled with vocal chord injuries. The rockers here are actually fairly good. Specifically Send My Love, Under the Bridge, and River Lea. But holy hell are the ballads excruciating, and the second half is completely drowned in them.

Adele has a great voice as usual, vocals are unmatched. Overall the songs were variations on a theme, lots of similar sounds, Hello was a huge hit when it came out, a decent album

I didn't enjoy it as an entire album as much as I thought, even though there are some excellent tracks here.

Another collection of fantastic vocals and great ballads from Adele. It would be impossible to recreate the same magic that 21 delivered, but I think Adele followed up as best as she can with this one. I think all of these songs are rather strong, though not as hard hitting as the songs in 21.

I liked this album a lot especially my favorite Adele track of all time “water under the bridge” (idc what anyone says it’s her best song imo) but yeah there’s some really good songs on here. The lesser known songs are a little boring and forgettable but the amount of hits almost makes up for it. It doesn’t feel as cohesive as her previous album 21 but it’s still a good listen

Little bit more pop than 21 and I think I preferred the more soulful sound of 21. The songs were all good but they just didn’t pack a punch as much as the ones off of 21. Singing was all outstanding as always though. Adele could sing basically anything and make it sound good. I think part of what hurt this one personally is that when I lifeguarded as a teenager the people at our pool would always ask us to put on key 103 and that station play Send My Love ALL FUCKING DAY. I started that song and was like “you know maybe enough time has past cuz these verses sound pretty good” then the chorus came and I got flashbacks to yelling at annoying ass kids and their alcoholic, entitled ass parents. 👍: hello, water, love in the dark

alright I don't know if Adele is THAT good..two albums???? Tommy wasn't lying this album is perfect for this weather. her vocals are impressive of course, I'm finding the album to be a bit underwhelming though. bro seriously her tracks with the least plays always end up being my faves. Waar ik in 2015 werkte stond de radio dagelijks aan (afgestemd op Slam meen ik) en als Adele een nieuw album uitbrengt is dat dé manier om een hekel te krijgen aan Adele. Ik heb actieve herinneringen aan de dagen dat "Hello" minimaal 8 keer op een werkdag voorbij kwam. Maargoed. Dit is muziek die ik nooit aan zet, maar er is weinig mis mee. Een keertje zo'n album luisteren is een makkie en het heeft zeker goede kanten. Ze kan prima zingen, er zijn geen hoorbare autotune achtige toestanden, etc. Gewoon een melancholische mevrouw die met vlagen graag hard zingt. Echt zo'n stofzuigalbum. M'n grootste kritiek zou zijn dat het wel wat veel van hetzelfde is. Weinig afwisseling. 3.7 afgerond naar 4 sterren. (Deze 4 sterren ga ik later gebruiken om mezelf te verdedigen wanneer ik Amy Winehouse een 1 of 2 ga geven)

Wow I am going to hate myself for doing this. I usually am NOT a pop fan. I find it generic and shallow. But I am rating this one 5/5 stars. Is it because I haven't gotten a 5 star album yet and I really wanted one? Possibly. Is it because I am familiar with Adele and already know her sound? Possibly. Is it because this album was impeccable, with so much feeling and insane vocals? Possibly. Adele, I don't know what you did, but that was an amazing album.

Great Album! Her voice is amazing every time i hear it. I don’t love every song thus, the 4 stars.

This was my first Adele album and wow was it powerful. Maybe it’s just where I’m at in life right now but it was hard emotionally to get through some of the tracks. This one I could definitely see myself listen to again, but only if I wanted to sob.

And it’s no surprise, she’s got an amazing voice, so powerful and yet so fragile and never looses a hint of emotionality throughout any of it. However it just doesn’t click with me, I find that David Byrne said it best when he said “The better the singer’s voice, the harder it is to believe what they’re saying”. While Adele generally does hit home a lot better than the other pop stars out there I still find it hard connecting with her music. I suppose me and the mentality a 25 year old woman has are radically different from one another. So maybe I’ll change my mind at some point. As of right now however i had to say this album was OK, nothing more nothing less FT: “when we were young”, “remedy”, “a million years ago” 3/5

Heard before

Excellent album. Now that some time has passed, I can appreciate "Hello" again. When the album first came out, that song definitely reached a point of oversaturation. (Do you remember when it was the #1 song and some pop stations didn't know what to do with a sad, dramatic song so on weekends at night they'd play these horrible EDM remixes of it? Man, that used to drive me crazy haha) But it's a powerful song and a great opener. "Send My Love (To Your New Lover)" is one of my favorite Adele songs. Such a great hook. Damn, "Water Under the Bridge" is another powerhouse song. And "River Lea" is another jam in the same vein. There are a handful of songs on this album that... well, I don't want to call them filler because how could a song with stunning vocals and immaculate production be called filler? But there are a few like "Remedy" and "Love in the Dark" that are beautiful in the moment but quickly melt away once they're over. Adele's such a good singer though that she could sing the dictionary. That's the thing about her, right? And there are also some good album cuts too. I really liked the dramatic and sexy "I Miss You" and the triumphant closer "Sweetest Devotion."

I think Adele will go down as one of the greatest singer/songwriters of all time. Her voice is always on point and so many recordings of her both live and in-studio come across as perfect to me. I'll always remember spending a few months rebuilding parts of my mom's house due to a flood (I think it was Hurricane Irene in 2011) and hammering away at sheetrock with my brother and uncle, quietly doing our tasks while the radio was playing. Adele comes on (I don't remember the song) and like a band of percussions in perfect sync, the hammering stopped. We just listened, took a break, and then got right back to it. It was so funny to us after we realized that we all did it without even saying anything to eachother and it was also such a sign of her brilliance- it will stop you in your tracks! great album flow- "Hello" is classic Adele- a heart ripping ballad with an earth-shattering powerful chorus Track 2, "Send my Love to your new Lover" is this incredibly infectious rhythmic bop that makes you feel like you are going for a run, pumping to the quarter notes and mentally working through something heavy- like a breakup. I listened to this on Friday and now on Monday morning this song is still stuck in my head. I learned recently of an ingenious idea that a guitar teacher who I look up to had been working on- where he was trying to improve his guitar phrasing and making his melodies more lyrical and more like a human voice, with small tasteful articulations. He had struggled with them for a long time and I shared this because my whole time as a musician I've always felt like I needed to add more little nuances and flourishes in my music and that I would too often write a melody where the interesting facet was the note intervals and their relationship with the harmony, and not enough of the micro elements like articulations that you would find in an Adele vocal part. His idea was to learn through the Adele discography and learn her vocal parts on guitar, including all of her little nuances exactly how she sings them. I don't necessarily have the free time to do this compared to a full time guitar teacher but I've been keeping that in my back pocket for a while- to go through some of her hits and hopefully ingrain some of her melodic beauty into my guitarring. It's a brilliant idea and I know it broke open his guitar playing and improvisation. I think this album is a 4. The hits are amazing but it's not as truly timeless as an Adele Greatest Hits would be.

Just a great album. Sadder in theme and quite personal in delivery. Adele kills the vocals and the high production carries throughout. Top songwriting with emotion coming out. This is a benchmark for pop musicians in writing ballads.

Although not as diverse and versatile as her "21" album, it's again very impressive what Adele delivers on this album. Seemingly every second song has been a radio hit and while one has to admit that she obviously has sort of a formula, I can't argue or knock it down because the formula is gold and works very well

Never got into Adele. Yes she has a great voice, but I genuinely don’t believe she has soul. Watching her do carpool karaoke with (never very funny or relevant) James Corden proves this to me. She’s a pop star with an above average voice and some solid songs, but I wouldn’t put her material up there with the all time great singers.

There is no denying Adele’s voice, but this is not really my style of music. I find it a little overwrought.

Feels more contrived after she blew up. “Here I am, Adele, making an Adele album.” I appreciate the rare maturity of “Send Your Love” as far as pop music goes. I might like some of this with more raw production.

She actually moves me to tears, just the raw emotion and tone of her voice, never mind the lyrics being great - paints a picture. Songs are so well written and produced. She’s incredible. Music is so beautiful. Can’t listen to her all the time because I’ll just be drained! Hot damn, Adele.

Adele has a beautiful voice, but this album’s songs were just average pop ballads. She could sing a grocery list and it would sound good.

There are a few too many skips here for my usual 4 star requirements, especially with how much I dislike "Hello"... but god damn, when it hits, it absolutely HITS. It is less consistent than 21 but honestly I think it may have higher highs, and thats saying something.

A lot of strong singles on display, and they do form a good album. No quite the level of hype she often gets in my opinion, but good nonetheless.

Probably the best voice of 21st century pop? She gets an extra star for writing her own material instead of having a 10 man songwriting team or algorithm do the work. Too many songs with a bare piano arrangement, I started to get bored as a result.

My esteem for Adele has only grown over the years, but weirdly I remember this being a better album. Hello is a classic, and I really like Send My Love (To Your New Lover). I always walk away from these Adele albums saying she has a great voice and the music is solid, but it’s music that doesn’t move me a lot. There’s always that last step she doesn’t take.

1st listen. This could have been called "I'm Sad, But Listen to What I Can Do With My Voice." It gets boring. "Send My Love" and "Sweetest Devotion" save it from being a 1.

I enjoyed this record a good bit. She’s got such a great voice and really great phrasing that really heightens the pop song chords. Does drag a bit towards the middle but has some absolute earworms.

I never really listened to Adele at all, and I tried to go into this album with really fair expectations. I have to say... this album was full of songs that sounded EXACTLY like an album full of Adele songs to sound. And that's okay - she has a good voice, the songs sound meaningful, etc. But there isn't enough there for me to rate it more than average. Ultimately, Adele sings a ballade everytime.

Pretty solid album, really took me back to walking in a department store in 2015.

Adele is an extremely talented singer, she's beautiful, and seems to be quite funny and charming in interviews as well. So yeah, overall, I'd say I like her well enough. But I never quite want to listen to her music. This album, for example: it's a fine pop album, but it seems like the sort of thing that would be playing in my mom's car stereo. It often sounds like radio fluff, or like well-trodden territory. To be fair, I don't believe this album to be one of her best. Even the singles here are sort of boring, which is not a problem that her previous album 21 ever had. I just don't know if this is the album of hers that should've made it to this list. I've always really like "Send My Love (To Your New Lover)", though. Fun song.

Good album much better than expected

Like I've left the radio on to a station I don't listen to. Or a doctor's waiting room. Completely inoffensive and fine to listen to, my daughter had blood tests this morning so it was nice to have something like this instead of subjecting her to Napalm Death again. It's all good obviously, she's ridiculously successful for a reason. Surprised that I don't know a single one of these songs, would assume I'd have heard at least one of them everywhere but nope. And clearly I'll never listen to this again.

21 was a lovely album of well constructed songs with a lot of soul influences. Nice suprise. This is a bunch over the top songs where Adele is straining her voice. I really did not enjoy this. Shame as 21 was a nice suprise

Definitely mom music, but some of the last couple songs, Million Years Ago and All I Ask, with just her voice and an instrument really blew me a way. I wish the whole album was that personal, but instead they mostly went the mid-2010's pop production style, and it really drags it down.

Good highs, but not as good as the others

Not as good as 21. But OK.

Nice songs, and she has a nice voice. However.....she sings the exact same on every single song and her voice inflections wears thin pretty quickly. "River Lea" was the best song. The rest all sort of melded together. I couldn't tell where one song ended and the next had begun.
