I got most enjoyment from the tracks I hadn't heard a million times. I like Adele's voice but over the course of a whole album the brassiness of it wore on me a bit. I think I'm being unfair because of overexposure though. If I was hearing this for the 1st time I reckon I'd be raving about it

don't like it as much as i remember, obviously her voice sounds nice but the piano ballads can get a bit boring, the more busy songs like 'water under the bridge' are a nice change of pace

It was nice to get a "fresh listen" on some of 25 again. Considering Adele was already a superstar following the incredibly well received 21, so many songs from 25 just immediately soared to #1 on radio charts and were just being played nonstop. It's been 7+ years since then, and I'm also someone who has more or less dumped listening to the radio. I have always thought "Hello" was an interesting album opener. It carries with it a lot of emotion and is overall a very powerful and beautiful song. It also seems to convey a bit of a reintroduction to Adele; she's letting the listener know upfront and immediately that she's not the same person as she was on 21. Ultimately, in keeping with elemental descriptor words, I would say 25 when compared to 21, is a more watery, less fiery soul album. It's generally more soft, peaceful, and reflective. As a result, this album ultimately has fewer "bops", but either way, Adele's raw vocal talent and skill are very much intact on what is a very well-crafted and well-sung album.

Beautiful

Adele has an amazing voice, and yet the album starts to feel repetitive after a while. Not at all bad, but didn't quite hit the mark for me. 3.5 stars.

This was okayish I suppose. I don't think I would have recognised an Adele track before as I have zero interest in pop music. I didn't recognise any of the songs on this album, but they were inoffensive, just maybe a bit bland in places. She has a good voice, so I'm going for a three.

After the fantastic 21, Adele has been unsure of her next career move and while this isn't as staggeringly pointless as 30, it represents the diminishing ambition many artists face when they achieve great mainstream popularity.

Immediately striking with a single package stronger than the debut, 25 remains over-mature and over-produced. It sits in the middle of the pack, realistically, the hum of the back of the record just maddening enough to be interesting. Glad Adele keeps coming back; Not sure why this visit took this form.

The voice is divine, no doubt about it. The music? Less so. Very much so. Would I ever listen to this album of my own free will? Nah. But I feel I should give this voice some credit.

She's very talented but there's nothing on here for me. Don't really like this kind of stuff but I hate giving a bad review to someone so obviously good, so 3 stars it is.

No doubting the quality of the songs and Adele's voice but I found an entire album' worth of introspective, personal songs way too much

This is quite unexpected, but I was tempted to skip so, so many times. Just when I was getting really sick of the awful 2015 production on some of these tracks, they wisely decided to strip back the instrumentation for the last few tracks. Doesn't help much though. When "All I Ask" comes around, she sings "what if I never love again?", and I just want to shake her. Girl, have some self-awareness. Clearly, you have and you will love again. Apparently it's all you do. Calling this album 'mature' is laughable. I'm in my thirties now, and maybe I just can't handle this level of mid-twenties self-seriousness. Her stuff on 21 was better, across the board. "When We Were Young" is just about the only song that actually resonated with me, I think especially because it's such a funny thing to say in your mid-twenties but it feels vulnerable and genuine, and it has a profound tenderness for its subject that suggests more than what it says, and that has a sense of melancholy that isnt entirely focused on her own inability to let go, or at least, understands that things are inevitably going to change.

Adele has a great voice as usual, vocals are unmatched. Overall the songs were variations on a theme, lots of similar sounds, Hello was a huge hit when it came out, a decent album

I didn't enjoy it as an entire album as much as I thought, even though there are some excellent tracks here.

Little bit more pop than 21 and I think I preferred the more soulful sound of 21. The songs were all good but they just didn’t pack a punch as much as the ones off of 21. Singing was all outstanding as always though. Adele could sing basically anything and make it sound good. I think part of what hurt this one personally is that when I lifeguarded as a teenager the people at our pool would always ask us to put on key 103 and that station play Send My Love ALL FUCKING DAY. I started that song and was like “you know maybe enough time has past cuz these verses sound pretty good” then the chorus came and I got flashbacks to yelling at annoying ass kids and their alcoholic, entitled ass parents. 👍: hello, water, love in the dark

alright I don't know if Adele is THAT good..two albums???? Tommy wasn't lying this album is perfect for this weather. her vocals are impressive of course, I'm finding the album to be a bit underwhelming though. bro seriously her tracks with the least plays always end up being my faves. Sweetest devotion is a bop.

-didn’t write a BL- AL: Adele is such a well known figure. And it’s no surprise, she’s got an amazing voice, so powerful and yet so fragile and never looses a hint of emotionality throughout any of it. However it just doesn’t click with me, I find that David Byrne said it best when he said “The better the singer’s voice, the harder it is to believe what they’re saying”. While Adele generally does hit home a lot better than the other pop stars out there I still find it hard connecting with her music. I suppose me and the mentality a 25 year old woman has are radically different from one another. So maybe I’ll change my mind at some point. As of right now however i had to say this album was OK, nothing more nothing less FT: “when we were young”, “remedy”, “a million years ago” 3/5

Never got into Adele. Yes she has a great voice, but I genuinely don’t believe she has soul. Watching her do carpool karaoke with (never very funny or relevant) James Corden proves this to me. She’s a pop star with an above average voice and some solid songs, but I wouldn’t put her material up there with the all time great singers.

AJ: I mean, she’s amazing. Imagine being able to take all your experiences and hurt and write them down and shout them out and sound so fucking good? Can’t afford to be sad all the time, but I mean, she’s amazing. Cat: What a powerhouse. She actually moves me to tears, just the raw emotion and tone of her voice, never mind the lyrics being great - paints a picture. Songs are so well written and produced. She’s incredible. Idk man feelar 21 e tillräckligt Adele för 1001, denhä har en okej hit (Hello) och en otroligt störande hit (Send my Love) och resten av a side är mediokert. Side B är bra och mysig pop musik och drar upp dehä till en svag trea.

Probably the best voice of 21st century pop? She gets an extra star for writing her own material instead of having a 10 man songwriting team or algorithm do the work. Too many songs with a bare piano arrangement, I started to get bored as a result.

I'm not sure what I expected here. But given Adele's talent and all the adulation she gets, I don't know... maybe something less boring? I enjoyed this record a good bit. She’s got such a great voice and really great phrasing that really heightens the pop song chords. Does drag a bit towards the middle but has some absolute earworms.

I never really listened to Adele at all, and I tried to go into this album with really fair expectations. I have to say... this album was full of songs that sounded EXACTLY like an album full of Adele songs to sound. And that's okay - she has a good voice, the songs sound meaningful, etc. But there isn't enough there for me to rate it more than average. Ultimately, Adele sings a ballade everytime.

Adele is an extremely talented singer, she's beautiful, and seems to be quite funny and charming in interviews as well. So yeah, overall, I'd say I like her well enough. But I never quite want to listen to her music. This album, for example: it's a fine pop album, but it seems like the sort of thing that would be playing in my mom's car stereo. It often sounds like radio fluff, or like well-trodden territory. To be fair, I don't believe this album to be one of her best. Even the singles here are sort of boring, which is not a problem that her previous album 21 ever had. I just don't know if this is the album of hers that should've made it to this list. I've always really like "Send My Love (To Your New Lover)", though. Fun song.

Good album much better than expected

Definitely mom music, but some of the last couple songs, Million Years Ago and All I Ask, with just her voice and an instrument really blew me a way. I wish the whole album was that personal, but instead they mostly went the mid-2010's pop production style, and it really drags it down.

Her voice is amazing. The production is amazing. But...it just feels like something is missing? The risk-taking thing kind of just sounds like people parroting music critics, but I guess that could explain how I feel overall. Favorite track: Send My Love (To Your New Lover)

Adele is at her best when she is belting out big vocals. While there are a couple songs that do this, the majority feel shadowed by overarching instruments. I think all I Ask might be one of my favourite songs from her. Real rating 3.5/5

Adele is generally not my cup of tea but you have to admit, she is great at making the type of music she makes. My problem with this is that I can tolerate maybe 2 well-placed ballads on an album, otherwise I get bored. Got a soft spot for All I Ask though.

This is a perfectly fine album, but I don't think it really deserves a "you NEED to listen to this" designation. It's not really significant. 21 is worthy of that, I think -- this is just the weaker follow-up to a modern classic. Whatever though, it's still a nice listen. Favorite track: Water Under the Bridge

If I am honest, not amazes by this album. Too much warbling. Outstanding song is hello and then goes downhill. Solid enough but not planning on listening again

Adele has a ton of talent. Her third album showed that with her vocal range. The songs however were pretty boring and morose compared to her previous two albums. I get there may be a reason behind that but overall this album didn’t have the great quality that 21 had. Hello is a good song and vocally she’s one of the best modern pop singers. Overall this is okay but not the best. 6.2/10

This wasn’t bad. The first song is a highlight but also establishes a formula of soft, piano driven verses followed by blown-out choruses. It’s very 2010s-ish. A million years ago and all I ask are refreshing, with their colorful chords and vocal melodies

Hmmm…. She certainly does have a great voice. Rich and smooth. But there doesn’t seem to be a whole hell of a lot else going on. It sounded better in the evening, making dinner and drinking a beer, than in the morning with coffee and a crossword. But in both cases, it was sort of just hanging out in the corner, a good-looking vase or a thriving potted plant. Yep, that’s nice, but I’m not going to dwell on it. 3/5.

I respect Adele, because I think she's one of the few modern artists who are popular for actually being talented (genuinely what is the deal with people like Ed Sheeran?). She's got some pipes, man. That being said, this is not as consistent as "21" and way simpler. Too many songs here feel like throwaways and nothing reaches the same highs as "Hello" and "When We Were Young". Good album, not an essential listen though. I can see why they removed this from newer editions of the book.

Definitely not Adele's best album but the singles were superb. Her voice is excellent, the piano is excellent I do not know how in God's name Beyonce lost to this when 21 was Adele's best. Having heard 30 makes me realize that Adele could expand more sonically and artistically

I like most of the track on this album, I really tracks like WWWY or Send my love, shit, I still have to this day Million Years Ago and All I Ask in rotation on my playlists, but man, I'm just learning this is the ONLY Adele album on the list and I have to say It does not make any sense. Is this record a legendary record with youthful bless? No, that’s 19. Is this a legendary breakthrough which took the whole world by surprise and made an instant classic of its author and itself? Nah! That was 25!! Don’t get me wrong, it is a nicely produced and soulful, but none of its tracks go as hard as the ones on the first record. Even if you don’t like Adele, those are records to be heard. This one on the other hand is something we had already seen and with lesser spark than it predecessors. So let’s see, songs like All I ask and Million years ago (which I fully believe it’s written over an Spaniard 70’s song) could easily make this song a 4 stars, but, that fourth star will have to go as it should be 25 and not this, the one on the list.

Not in my edition of the book! 2015. 3 stars No doubting that she can write a tune and has got a good voice but... I don't think she's moved on from her earlier (and better albums). This goes on a bit, and on a lot of the songs she sounds like a pub singer. It's perfectly acceptable fare, but it's not essential. If you're going to have one Adele album, listen to 21.

Lovely, rich voice full of soul and emotion. No real hits on this collection, so not special and really only a trillion seller based on her star power alone. I won't be listening to 25 again since 19 and 21 are so much better.

The first 90 seconds of this album are emotionally powerful, but this genre isn't my speed. There are a couple tracks I thoroughly enjoyed, but I the rest didn't hit for me. Overall great production and excellent material.

Not something I would normally listen to but actually an amazingly strong opening. Kind of tales off in mediocrity for me, probably wouldn't put on the full album again though I enjoyed it more than I thought.

Powerful and captivating voice. Adele knows how to convey her feelings and hypnotize her listeners. A couple of majestic songs in this album but, should I feel any type of shame for considering that most of the album sounds the same? Yes, those songs were performed flawlessly (compared to other things in the pop landscape, are gold). I am quite sure that’s my problem, because Adele has lots of praise and success and is one of the most talented pop stars of our era.

There's no denying that Adele has an incredible voice that commands your attention, singing lyrics that you feel in your core - whether or not you've experienced it first hand. Her hits are worthy of being hits (both those from this album an those throughout her entire career), but the deep cuts here are just okay. They aren't particularly memorable or influential, and I feel like a voice as strong as Adele's deserves music that's more groundbreaking than this. 25 is catchy but a bit too regular for Adele. Still some good songs though, like When We Were Young, Hello, and River Lea.

I know she's good. It must doesn't grab me, I don't need to listen to again.

Adele has an amazing voice and I'm not usually into her music. However, I did like it more than I thought and when I am concentrating on the music I found I liked many more songs. Overall I thought it was decent. Highlights were "Hello", "Water Under the Bridge" and "Sweetest Devotion".

Not as good as the other one, hearing hello is like a time machine back to 2015.

Adele is incredibly talented but also has a habit of writing some tedious piano ballads that don't really go anywhere. This album is far less fun and impactful than the previous two and less raw and emotional than her latest one and is just a very middling point in her discography. There are some incredible songs here - Send My Love is really fun, and All I Ask is absolute gorgeous. Just a shame that a lot of the stuff in the middle is so lifeless

This has to be the most popular and recent album on this list so far. I think in terms of the most known pop singers from 2010s, only Taylor Swift is more popular than Adele. Surprisingly, the album chosen in here is "25". If I had to guess, the record with more singles and hits is "21", at least it stands out much more. In case of the former, the only hit that I know of is "Hello", which actually is a pretty good song. It was a summer tune, but definitely it has quality and the lyrics are slightly more meaningful than of your usual hot tracks list. The album starts pretty strong with songs like "Send My Love" and "I Miss You", but soon after that the quality of the album drops, and we are greeted by fillers, or just a bunch of uninteresting songs. I'm not a big fan of anything there, let it be for music or lyrics. It's clear that Adele has a powerful voice, but it's not enough for me to be kept interested in the album. Not a record I would choose from the popular music in 2010s.

Some solid songs from a very talented vocalist, but by minute 30 I was ready for it to be over.

-I like "Hello," "Send My Love (To Your New Lover)," "When We We're Young, and "Water Under the Bridge" since I heard them enough on the radio -I like the drums and the harmonies in "I Miss You" -The harmonies and swells into the main chorus in "River Lea" are great -My familiarity with it maybe held boostit, but it's right on the border of strong 3 and weak 4

Here's the thing: I listened to this album on Spotify. And then it did the whole "You listened to 25, so you'll like this..." and it played another Adele track: "Right As Rain" from her 19 album. I liked that one song better than the whole of the 25 album. Why? Because it was different than all of that album. 25 seemed to just be torch song after torch song. It just... got very morose. Halfway in, I was looking for a knife to slit my wrists (ok not really, but you get the idea). I will say I did not hear as much vocal processing. Adele's distinct vocals were very easy to pick out; it did not sound like anyone else (which always frustrates me, how autotune will usually kill any uniqueness of a person's voice.) So the album is pretty depressing just because the songs themselves feel the same (I think the 4th song was a little upbeat, and maybe one other). So as well done it was, and how great of a voice Adele has, it's not going to be something I go back to.

First few seconds of this album I thought she was going to do a Lionel Ritchie cover. Thank goodness that mission was aborted. Her voice is amazing but the songwriting would be nothing without her voice. Also, her musicians are kept on a tight leash in all but a few songs. It's too bad that her singing is trapped in a one dimensional world. I'm rounding up due to her voice.

I remember seeing Adele perform Hello live at an awards ceremony the year it was released. I got goosebumps when she belted out the first note of the chorus and the crowd went wild. She has one of greatest and most recognizable voices of her generation. Young girls, and older ones too, must go crazy for her lyrics. On this LP I prefer the songs that aren’t the most popular. River Lea has a bit of a gospel feel, Million Years ago sounds like something I would have heard on 8-track in my uncle’s car in the 60s, I think I Miss You is my favourite with its moody feel. As a side note, it’s interesting that, Adele, like Beyonce & Amy Weinstein had all the songs written or co-written by the producers, who have very impressive resumes. I'm giving one less point than her 21 album.

For an international powerhouse, who's third album stirred up so much hype, this has a lot of skipable tracks. Great voice but rudimentary song writing.

I've heard probably half of these songs. Not really my type of music, but Adele has a great voice and I mostly like the songs fine. I did find the general tone a little sad and depressing though.

I don't think this is her best album but i do think it's better than her newest one. 19 & 21 still are the top. i was also listening to adele in high school or middle school? before she blew up so 19 & 21 hold a special place. this shouldn't have won over lemonade.

Beautiful, powerful voice. 5/5 stars for that. Of course the music isn’t my favorite and, as most music these days is, the focal point is the vocals. To me, vocals should be a supporting role to the music and nothing more. The music and instruments are much more important.

Love Adele the person. Her music just does nothing for me. That's cool, she's chill about it.

None of the tunes made an impact on me. She has a strong voice, though she sounds like she has a sore throat. The back up vocals are nice, and there's some pretty piano in there as well.

She has a classically trained voice, which is raised by the professional production. There is more depth to the mood of the album than an average pop album. The album is piano and string driven. The songs with drums act as high points to the album. The guitar driven song is a nice breath in arrangement near the end. The album is bookended by two stand out songs. The middle gets washed out in mood from too many similar feeling songs.

Very well written pop songs that allow Adele to highlight her vocal abilities without resorting to going to a falsetto for every song (a common complaint I have with modern pop vocalists). Overall though I found the first half of the album to be much stronger than the second half. The main highlight for me on the second half was the closer Sweetest Devotion. It just felt like all the tracks after Water Under the Bridge ran into eachother until reaching Sweetest Devotion.

A few undoubtedly popular/great songs, but I was underwhelmed with the majority of the album. Highlight: Hello Lowlight: Million Years Ago

Adele has such a wonderful voice and phrasing that this record is a bit of a let down. 19 absolutely belongs on this list, 21 perhaps, but not this. Some good tracks and beautiful production, especially the piano accompaniments, but not her best.

Y’a du très bon et du très mauvais sur cet album. Elle est particulièrement intéressante dans les chansons qui ont un grand range dynamique comme Hello. Quand c’est doux, c’est plein de textures, tant au piano qu’au vocal. Quand c’est fort, ça arrache tout. À la fin d’un album entier, on est un peu tanné de se faire crier dans les oreilles par contre. Aussi à Water under the bridge, j’étais certain que c’était une pub qui partait. Ça sonne comme un loop qu’on achète sur Envato. Pas bon ça.

Inégal comme album. La voix est superbe et la production sonne bien. Après, certains reprochent à Beyoncé d’avoir pleins de collaborateurs pour écrire ses pièces et bien on a la même chose ici. Par contre ici, je trouve que ça ne se tiens pas aussi bien comme tout. Il y a des styles qui ne lui vont pas bien (Send my love fait très Taylor Swift). J’ai l’impression qu’il pourrait y avoir 3-4 albums différents avec les styles des différentes pièces. Aussi, pour une fille de 25 ans, j’ai l’impression que ça s’adresse à un publique de gens beaucoup plus vieux. Elle a définitivement du talent et une voix unique, mais je m’attendais à être plus séduit par l’album. C’est correct. Pièces préférées: I Miss You, River Lea, Million Years Ago

About 4 years better than the last one.

Great singer but it doesn’t grab me where it matters and the whole thing just passed me by in a gentle sameness.

I've heard at least one of these songs before, but ended up liking the album more than expected.

I recognize her talents. Amazing pipes, great lyrics. Yet, the music (chord structure, instrumentation) just isn’t very interesting in the end.

This is not on my copy of the list, once again putting on full display the absurd turn around time for new albums getting tossed on the list and then relegated to the dustbin. The single is a banger, but Adelle is a talent for making bangers. I've never bothered to give an album of hers a deep dive. Momcore isn't exactly a go-to genre for me, although I guess I'm glad there's someone out there not bad carrying the torch for Cher and Melissa Ethridge. I'm about halfway through at this point and, unfortunately, the singles are carrying this album pretty hard. Final verdict: A few standout moments but overall not essential.

My greatest respects to Adele. She's a wonderful singer songwriter but, some songs haven't grow very well with me in this album . If you heard them too many times you don't want to hear them again for a long long time while some others are just mediocre to typically good . At least she doesn't cheat by using autotune like many others of her age and that is plus. Overall a good album 3.5

Not really my thing personally if I'm being honest but I can still definitely respect her vocal talents and the songwriting quality of this album. I don't know if I'd seek it out but I wouldn't complain if it was on.

Although the mood of the album can feel interminably conservative to the point of bleeding and blurring into each other, 25 showcases Adele doing what Adele does best: conveying heart, soul, emotion and regalia in her music. One can understand why this became a smash once it dropped six and a half years ago. Favorites: Hello, Send My Love (To Your New Lover), Remedy, River Lea, Love in the Dark, A Million Years Ago.

Pretty standard pop diva stuff. For some reason she seems to appeal to me more than most of the others, not sure why but I think she has a touch of I due in her. 3 🌟

Obviously very talented but not for me

I guess I was surprised by how many songs I actually knew from this album without knowingly listening to it before ("Hello", "Send My Love (To Your New Lover)", "When We Were Young"). That's what being the second best selling album of the 2010 decade does: makes you a major staple of the pop culture. It's hard not appreciate the talent: a searing, powerful, soulful voice. Most songs are extremely dramatic and about relationships and regrets. They tend to be the former state of a relationship not necessarily a story. Working with superstar producers and writers, the production and songs sound great. On the critique side if that ene matters, most of the songs and structures are formuliac and the album tends to drag in the second half. The exception is the last song, "Sweetest Devotion", which might have been my favorite song on the album..traditional rock band structure, great backing vocals and especially her voice. l do like her next album "30" better which I'm sure is also in my future.

She’s a damn good singer and I appreciate that her songwriting is deeply expressive without being so blatantly dirty laundry airing the way that idiot Taylor Swift’s is. This isn’t the kind of music I like to listen to, but I have a lot of respect for her tremendous talent. The album feels too repetitive in tone as it goes on to really give me what I need to be converted to a fan.

Pop vocal is just not my wheel house, so I sm most certainly NOT the one to judge this albums artistic merit. For me this album sounds generic in its pop vocal performance. Her voice is sublime there is no doubt but you better bring more to the table than a pretty voice to catch my ear. First off ballad after ballad makes for a boring listen for me. When she does open up a little like on Send My Love...it sounds like rip off of the Lorde hit from 2 years earlier. I'm not an Adele officialdom but I've never heard anything that comes any where near Rolling in the Deep. As I type Sweetest Devotion comes on and it's easily the best song on the album. Makes the album climb from a 2.5 stars to 3 🌟.

Part of me wishes I saw in this album what everyone else saw in it when it came out, and while it's good, it's not the genre-defining masterpiece others seem to regard it as. Decent tho!

Adeles powerful vocals overpower some mediocre lyrics, there are some absolute classics on here but I found that many tracks got a little too repetitive over time

Likeable pop. Powerful voice. Hard to criticize Adele, but I'm not a big fan of this. Could be my age, but it sounds way overproduced and overly dramatic.

I actually find her voice a bit overwrought and I can’t listen to it all in one go. It lacks subtlety and nuance in the sound, but you can’t deny that she’s a good song writer. I’d probably prefer to listen to Kraftwerk than this.

I've never listened to an Adele album all the way through. I've always assumed that radio and shopping centres will provide me with enough of her (admittedly quite good) music. Obviously I've heard Hello a lot. The third beat song with that word in the title. I have a massive soft spot for it, as my daughter used to sing it when she was too small to pick up all the words. So I always remember her versions when I hear it. Hello. It's me, I've been waiting for this moment in the unagalaxy. Send My Love To Your New Lover is familiar and pretty good too. The next couple of tracks are pretty samey though. She definitely has a comfort zone... I recognize, but am fairly ambivalent about Remedy, and River Lea wakes me up a little, if only because I used to like a run along there. There's not much else worth writing home about tbh. She has an incredible voice, but it largely gets used in one way, which limits the enjoyment I can get out of it.

I’m curious what Adele’s music would sound like if she stopped centering men. Girl, put that voice into singing about something deeper! Bring some heart and soul into the music. Because this album feels like a cliche and that’s a shame with a voice like that.

Album #169: Adele – 25 ⭐⭐ She's Adele and she needs no introduction. Probably the most difficult album I've reviewed on this list so far, and probably the biggest mixed bag of an album that I have heard. I have as many complaints as I have positive things to say. It starts off well. Hello, while by no means my favourite of the mega chart-topping hits of the last few decades, is decent. It has a bombastic and highly dramatic climax, which is good, but it suffers from the biggest issue that befalls the album: the lyrics, which I'll get to in a bit! Send My Love (To Your New Lover) is the best song on the album by a country mile. It's got a great earworm of a chorus, with a fantastic and unique vocal melody. I Miss You falls short of the previous two tracks, but it's not bad! It lacks a great hook, but for a six-minute song it zips by in its melodramatic way. Then, it all falls apart. We get the first of a series of dreary piano ballads with clichéd themes and lyrics. It seems every time this album moves towards something interesting or unique, a fucking ballad about regret, youth or love lost comes along with the most overused, clichéd lyrics. I Miss You leads into When We Were Young, River Lea into Love in the Dark, Million Years Ago into All I Ask. Absolute snoozefest. I feel like anyone could have written these songs. I was routinely able to guess the next lyric of most of these monotonous, sombre piano ballads because it was so clear what she was going to sing. Basic, boring rhymes, single sad piano chord. Wash, rinse, repeat. The aforementioned songs in between are all quite good and diverse. I also really liked the closer, Sweetest Devotion. It's a moment of brightness on an exceptionally dour album. Her voice is good. I'm not going to sit here and say it blows me away. I'm sure from a technical standpoint it's outstanding, but for my ears, it doesn't do much. And on All I Ask, it seriously started to grate on me, especially on that ear-splittingly horrible key change. The worst track on the album for me. I don't want to be a snob and just bash chart music for the sake of it. But there is an eerie, off feeling to this album. This feels like a very abstract point, but it's been plaguing my mind while listening to this. This is a mega-selling album, and that's fine, but I get this horrible feeling that it was made to be a mega-selling album rather than a classic. Take Fleetwood Mac's Rumours. It's probably a bad example, as they were going for a more commercial sound on that album. But Rumours sounds and feels like a classic that went on to become a mega-selling album. Adele's 25 sounds like a mega-selling album that was made to become a mega-selling album. You hear it pumped into dressing rooms in clothes shops when you're trying and failing to fit into some shitty clothes, because it's made to sound like that. That's its purpose. It feels like it was made by a committee, because it probably was. Adele is, even at this stage of her career, an industry. But, they didn't hide the brush strokes well enough. It feels like it was mapped out on a spreadsheet. Excel spreadsheet pop. It's not an album you need to hear before you die, but it will be an album that's shoved down your throat, one way or another, before you die.

There's no chance I fuck my streaming algorithm or waste my time for this commercial shite. Mum rock, for boring mums that don't like music. Adele really really can sing, just an amazing instrument, that voice. And these are pretty solid pop compositions that showcase that instrument. But these confectionary delights are just not for me. My heart doesn't swell in those ways or something. Maybe my speakers enjoyed the workout, maybe they're lubricated now.

When We Were Young

I’m sorry Adele, your voice is incredible at times (those pitch glides are near effortless) but why does every song have to be ‘epic’? Each one apparently has to have gospel choir, or orchestral arrangement, or something equivalent and it loses its impact by the 4th or 5th song. ‘Semd my love (to your new lover)’ is at least a little bit out of the norm and has a bit of swing to it, the rest is trite and far too safe.

Generic and boring. If you take the vocals off, most tunes sound like the background music of corporate videos.

She sings in cursive and that pisses me off but like other than that and whatever the fuck is going on with the production, it’s an okay album. My mom listened to Adele nonstop for years and so I’m not sure if it’s got sentimental value or not but I do really love when we were young. It and water under the bridge are the only tracks that don’t make this album a fat fucking 0. In terms of mom music she’s rather good but the bar is at the ground.

I like how she feels very sincere about what she’s singing. She has a good voice, too. But I really dislike records like this where all the songs are vocal-forward and the lyrics are all about relationships and the music is just serving to emphasize the vocals. None of it is interesting to me. But I tried, I swear.

Didn't particularly need to listen to this one due to how much I already heard it on repeat as a kid. My mum has been a massive Adele fan right from the start, so she'd put the CDs on until she got sick of them. Brought back childhood memories and things like that, but didn't do too much more for me personally.

Never been a huge Adele fan - I find her music style just a bit overwrought and overdramatic. This album does have some very solid songs but overall it hasn’t changed my viewpoint. She’s obviously very talented.

There are some decent instrumentals on this record, however I fail to connect with Adele lyrically and I'm not sure why. I also don't love her singing style, it's a bit too clean.

Listening to the first song and remembering when this came out I always thought it was the song that was like "Hello, is it me you're looking for?" I like how she's complaining about being old, tbf I felt similar at 25 but it pushed me to enjoy late 20s more than my early 20s. Past me is jealous of the life I'm currently living. Anyway she has a nice voice but what's the point if you aren't going to use instruments to further enhance it?

I will not succumb to the Adelle agenda. Music for people that like the radio being on in the background. There are a few certified bangers on here, but jesus Adele, can you dial it down a notch? This album has all the over the top drama people long for on their pathetic lives.

Rather tiring to listen to after a while

I didn't have particular expectations and still somehow was disappointed. Production is very of it's time and sounds too generic, the songs are mostly about the same in the same words. and the worst for me is that despite Adele is miserable in most of the tracks, it's still ends up boring. I feel like if it was all a bit less literal, if she could tell a story of somebody else it would add just some substance, but 5 songs about no longer being young when you are 25 is just not it.

Skipped through it, not a genre I'm fan of. I acknowledge the potential and I promise to myself that I'll revisit this record sometime in the future.

Rating: 4/10 If 21 is just above average with a collection of good pop tunes then 25 follows it up as a below average effort without the hits to match. The generic balladry is more prominent and the songwriting is comparably worse and entirely unmemorable. Where are the memorable choruses, at least? If Hello is the best there is to offer in that regard then this one is pretty weak. Adele might have peaked at 21

🌕🌕🌗🌑🌑 (rounded down my rating because they dumbed down these lyrics for the lowest common denominator) Okay. Alright. I gave this one a shot because Adele was really important to Emily growing up and, for someone who lives under a rock, I have very few—if any—conceptions as to what Adele should sound like. For perspective, my first exposure to the song "Hello" was a Westboro Baptist Church parody (don't ask), and I only recognized "Send My Love (To Your New Lover)" from, y'know, "Semaluhtounuyulohowwah." Really, I was a pretty clean slate. Musically, I've got to say, there's plenty to like here. Everyone's already given Adele her flowers as a vocalist (though, and I'm not even saying this to be some kind of asshole, I feel like she's at times too controlled to really feel raw, right? Still impressive belting on a lot of these, but it didn't rip me open, I guess), but for as overproduced as this album is, some of the melodies are pretty fun. I genuinely enjoyed “I Miss You,” and I loved the sort of warped, fuzzy production on the background harmonies of that one, "Water under the bridge," and "River Lea." Actually, I have mixed feelings about "River Lea" in particular—it's super, uh, this era of pop with sort of an overproduced funk hook but, much as I tried not to, I kind of got into it. It reminds me of newer Hozier a bit, which I hope carries as much good as it does bad. That said—and with my sincerest apologies to little Emily—some of these lyrics are, to me, just awful. I started writing down the ones that made me groan so I could add them here but, and I feel cruel saying this, there was just too many to make it practical. When I was a kid and would write lyrics or poetry, I'd often throw in filler words to clunkily fill the meter, but listening back, I was always disappointed you could tell. Here are some that sound like that: “When the night keeps you from sleeping” “I should probably tell you now before it’s way too late / that I never meant to hurt you or to lie straight to your face” “Life was a party to be thrown / but that was a million years ago” “When the world seems so cruel / and your heart makes you feel like a fool” Lyrical fluff abound! Sometimes, there's also these passages that have a similar not-quite-human feeling, like they're grasping for a metaphor. This is also very evil of me, but if these lines were released today, I'd say they sounded like AI: “If you’re not the one for me / then how come I can bring you to your knees?” “I wish I could live a little more / look up at the sky and not the floor” There are a few that feel like they're trying to tap into a feeling that hasn't been felt, but look, who am I to judge? I don't know, something like this felt like it was grasping at straws: “When I walk around all of the streets / where I grew up and found my feet / they can’t look me in the eye / it’s like they’re scared of me” Finally, the simplicity of these words lulled me into feeling (correctly) like I could just predict which rhyme came next. But then there were rhymes that were so bad they looped back around to being unpredictable? Like, take this one: “Have I ever asked for much? / The only thing that I want is your ___” what’s it gonna be? Touch? NO! "Love"??? Huh?? Look, I really regret how mean all of this comes off, but truly, where the lyrics are a 1, I genuinely feel like the music alone would've been a 3. Sorry, Emily.

I'm turning 50 this year and I've listened to music from every genre but this dramatic, emotional radio pop has never done anything for me. i can't think of a situation where I'd want to sit down and listen to this. Obviously influential since so many artists make a lot of money for record labels by sounding like this but I can't get into it. Sorry, I gave it a shot.

If she comes on the TV or radio I switch it off if I can't, I leave the room if I can’t do either I stick my fingers in my ears and sing la la la till It’s over. However, after listening to a full album of poor poor me songs, I have to admit she has a great voice and does have a talent

Feel like it says it all that my favorite Adele song is her Bond theme for Skyfall and almost nothing from one of her albums. Send My Love (To Your New Lover) comes pretty damn close though, and Water Under the Bridge is fine. It’s broadly inoffensive. She’s still the milquetoast white girl ideal of pop soul, which means she takes zero risks and gets a hell of a lot of reward.

Alright look. I like Adele. I like her songs, I think they're well written. I like her voice, very powerful and distinct. Not just belting for the sake of it, and great range. But god the production and arranging on these albums is so grating to me. Send Your Love is probably my favorite song by her, GODLY chorus on that one, super well written song. But then when it actually hits, there's a bunch of 2015 bullshit in the way! The barking "heys", reverse TR808 cymbal right on every bar, weak ass claps instead of a snare, get that shit outta there. Hello, again, well written song and uses her vocal range and power really well. Same with When We Were Young and Remedy. They all have that "dramatic cinematic reverb piano" thing though and that stinks cuz it's supposed to be a display of raw emotion but god it's so BORING It's 2.5 for me but it's brimming with "what it could be" energy. This album has a lot of good in it, but suffers from coming out right at the boom of this wave of music that's just mixed and arranged to be safe and boring and appear in car commercials. I get this makes me a snob and I'm sorry for that but it's upsetting me. Give this woman and this album a dedicated live band and some more lively arranging and I'm sure she soars, plenty of reason to believe that on display. But the production and arranging are so goddamn flat, it just feels like I'm standing in an H&M or something.

Generally, this is well done "soulful pop," but it is just rather boring, as it doesn't do a lot besides that. It doesn't push any boundaries or do anything beyond what will get into the most houses and sell the most records. I do think there is some talented songwriting, but I just feel, like a lot of modern pop music, it is distilled down to the safest production and compositions instead of pushing anything further. I'd give this a 2.5, but it doesn't compare to other albums I've given a 3, so I have to push it down to 2.

Sounds like those singing contest tv shows, where it's all about how much drama and belting it out the singer can do. Using the same basic template to repeatedly strive for an undeserved/unearned/unconvincing (especially because of the repetition and sameness) sense of the epic and the anthemic. Blecch. 2 stars. A low 2. Saved from a 1 only by her voice. Which surely could be put to better use?

perfect for piping into a shopping area! I'm annoyed that there is more than one Adele album on this list. This one certainly doesn't bring anything better or more interesting than 21. All it has to offer are a couple massively popular tracks, albeit good ones, which I didn't need to go out of my way to listen to because I've been exposed to them without trying. Three cheers for more lowest-common-denominator pop. I mean some of the tracks on this one are mind-numbingly straightforward

Opening track is a great, well written song even if I’ve heard far too many times. A thousand times perhaps. I think they achieved what they wanted with this album, and the sales back that up, but i doubt I’d want to listen again. She’s got pipes though.

Contrary to popular belief (unless this is a common take, I have no idea actually), this is a big step down from 21. Sure it has a hit, that I largely do not enjoy, the rest of the album is making an effort to emulate the success of the first but now from the perspective of someone successful. 21 had a good bluesy vibe to it but this is a little too much pop for her voice. Sorry girl

She has a great voice and some of the arrangements are really lovely. The songwriting is decent in places. But. I found a lot of this quite unexciting. When We Were Young, Water Under the Bridge and Sweetest Devotion are very good. Million Years Ago has a lovely melody but, like a lot of this album, sounds like it was written by someone much older reflecting on life- not someone aged 25 and by all accounts in the prime of her life. I’m 24 in a few months. That does not make me old.

Like a Celine Dion Album played by your parents friends on their Bose sound waves player but 20 years later with no innovation or risk taking gained from that time

I mostly don't like this. I find Adele is a classic over-singer, and her voice grates after a while, especially when she shout-sings. Most of the songs sound like they were designed to be epics, but end up feeling boring. A few exceptions which I don't mind are Hello, I Miss You (best track here) & When We Were Young.

Adele undoubtedly has one of the best voices in the last 50 years. However, she sings shitty pop songs. Her voice is definitely a five, but her content is a one. I wish she would move to jazz or blues. I think her voice is very much suited for that.

Audio teror zvani Hello na svakoj prokletoj radio stanici 24/7 2015. godine je nešto što bi bilo lijepo zaboraviti i evo skoro da sam uspjela kad me generator podsjeti. Bolesno dosadan album.

Not good. I don't believe in any of the emotions here. This is not my experience of love. The only saving grace is that Adele's voice can be pleasant.

The faster songs are good but overall I just find this so boring. But she's sold buckets of albums so im in the minority.

I was expecting to hate this album, not because I dislike Adele but because I hate emotionally driven sappy songs. And I didn’t like the song Hello for that exact reason. But part of my hate for that song might also be the over exposure. That being said I did feel like the emotionally manipulative mom pop wasn’t as “thick” as I was anticipating. I did hate that nonsense pop song with barely intelligible lyrics “send my love”. That’s everything wrong with pop music today. It’s just a factory churned out brain worm that just has wailing vocals that can’t even be deciphered. I will say though, while I didn’t actually save anything from this album, she does have some incredible pipes. But the album as a whole was just not for me at all.

Music for people who don't like music.

I think that I will stick to a simple and very subjective evaluation of this record: it's not for me. There is some real talent on this record and clearly a lot of people love it, but I am not one of them.

‘M going to be honest. I try to listen to everything on this quest. But there are a few I’m not sure I need to. I have heard this amongst the zeitgeist. I know this is ‘good’. I have a lot of time for Adele as a person. But I don’t need to listen to heat wrenching break up music to know it’s not my bag. Like with a number of albums in the list - this isn’t for me, and that’s ok. A bang in the middle 2.5. But rounded down.

Aretha Franklin for retail store playlists; the term “plastic soul” has never been more applicable. That said, I will say that “Water Under the Bridge” and “Send My Love (To Your New Lover)” are still good songs, no matter how overplayed they are.

Adele is one of the most talented singers of our time. What a shame that the songs are extremely boring. There is more to music about love and heartbreak than just a piano. Also, the album feels really like a compilation of songs, rather than an album.

Adele, while very talented in her own right, is not really music for me at all. I'm going to be a good sport of course and listen to the album, but for anyone else reading this keep in mind: I'm not a pop guy, don't take this rating to heart. I listen to bands like Henry Cow and the Butthole Surfers, who are essentially completely different solar systems than pop music. Adele is by far and away one of the most successful musicians of the 2010s: Once she got big in the scene she kept it going. 21 is probably her better known album (with Rolling In The Deep/Someone Like You/etc), but could I really say that when the average plays on 25 are closer to a billion? Alright enough procrastinating on listening to the album by writing this meaningless introduction. Well, I survived. Wasn't as bad as I thought (definitely wouldn't be too abysmal), but I can still plainly say most of this music is just simply not for me. I'm glad it's good for most people! There's a few songs here I liked: I Miss You, River Lea (found out afterwards it was produced by Danger Mouse which helps), and the closing track Sweetest Devotion. Everything else: No. Simply no. If I didn't hear it a million times working in [retail-adjacent work], maybe I'd like it better. But I still dislike it. Overall: definitely an important album over the past 10-15 years, I'm never gonna say something like Adele is a bad singer when she clearly isn't, but like, this just isn't engaging enough to me. She has the conviction singing value, but I'd like to see what she can do with an orchestra or symphony. Something grander. 25 ends on a good note which was better than my low expectations, but I'm happy to not hear most of this again. Could definitely be a lot worse, and it's better than Taylor Swift at least. I'm not gonna feel bad for one of the best selling musicians this century though lol.

Not a fan. 21 is a better album. 18 has more sparks of originality and genius on it even if it is a mixed bag overall. This is just polished to the point where I can’t latch onto anything. She’s clearly a generational talent with her voice. This album just seems a waste of it. 1.5

Fine. She has a great voice but I only need to hear once in a while. A whole album is a stretch.

Basically every song is co-written with a different producer which gives an interesting variety to the album. Tbf she does have an amazing voice. But yeah, not really my jam (sorry to be one of those guys).

Honestly, just a bland record carried enormously by Adele's singing. Definitely a product of its time; at some point I had to check if I still had ads disabled, that's how some of these songs sound to me. The best parts of the album for me was where there was minimal instrumentation and she was allowed to showcase how she's capable of carrying a song alone, like in Million Years or All I Ask. Regardless of my opinion though 25 deserves a place on the list. I was in the dead center of its targeted age demographic (if not social demographic) when this album came out, and even describing this album and Adele at the time as inescapable feels disingenuous - she was downright pestilent. Millennials can have this album on this list for that reason, but I'm gonna go with my gut, be a bit cheeky and give 25 a 2/5. Listening notes: Well just going by Spotify listeners this is by FAR the most popular album I'm supposed to listen to so far 2 tracks in, this would and did kill at millennial parties Damn, Adele can sing but I'm not gonna pretend that was a mystery to anyone including me Water Under the Bridge made me do a double take to check if I still had ads disabled I like Million Years Ago, but it feels iterative, like I already heard the same song before from someone else All I ask is another one I like simply due to the vocal power

I was about to get surgery on my hand as a result of a sandwich-related accident. It was just a local anaesthetic. My arm had a tourniquet above the elbow and was strapped down to the table. The surgeon entered. “So just a local?” I assumed he was talking to me. The tone was vaguely judgemental, as if I was responsible for the whole thing. Which to be fair, I was, between me and the sandwich. “Ah, yeah,” I said. “I’ve never had general anaesthetic and the concept makes me nervous, so I’m pretty glad.” “The concept?” “Yeah.” “Well, I’m not.” “Not what?” “Not glad. The ‘concept’ of general anaesthetic prevents conversations like these. Why are you so sweaty?” Also a fair observation. I was in a gown and lying on a bed lined with what felt like paper. Both materials felt like they were about to dissolve under my back sweat. “I’m nervous, I guess.” “Well, stop it. Stop being nervous and stop being sweaty.” He sighed. “I’m going to put on some music.” He walked out of sight to the corner of the room and pushed play on what sounded like an iPhone in a cereal bowl. He sat down and started pulling on my hand. I couldn’t feel anything other than a vague sense of pressure. “What’s this song?” I asked. He stopped what he was doing. I heard the clatter of the scalpel on the table. “Adele.” He said. “Ah. Day. El. The most popular artist in the world.” “OK, it’s not really my cup of…” “Would. You. Please. Stop. Sweating.” This was the first time I listened to Adele: strapped down to a table getting my hand cut open by a belligerent surgeon and trying not to sweat. Towards the end of the album, the operation was complete, and he removed the tourniquet. It unleashed this wave of the most intense pins and needles I’ve ever experienced. It felt like pure electricity running down my cold sausage of an arm. The surgeon picked up my lifeless arm, wiggled it a couple of times, then dropped it with a thud. He walked out without another word, with Adele still warbling away from the bowl in the corner. The second time I listened to Adele was today. I’m unsure which was the more painful experience.

Very unrelatable and very bland.

Chart pop isn’t my thing, and I’ve not listened to music radio since the mid ‘80s. But even from this position of supreme ignorance, I know Adele is a big deal and could probably name two of her songs without any prompting – I know, impressive. However, this is my first time with one of her albums, and it’s not what I expected at all. I thought it would be more fun. I don’t know why, but I assumed a ridiculously successful artist with a happy homelife and a new family, would be writing songs that reflected her experience – instead, 25 is a ballad heavy ball breaker of an album, with songs mostly steeped in regret and nostalgia. There’s no doubt that she sings the shit out of everything put in front of her, and in the moment, she believes and lives every word. It’s undeniably a collection of great performances and, for her fans, that’s probably enough, but I’m not anywhere near convinced. Sorry. 4/10

After 45 minutes I have no memory of what I listened to aside from her voice. Aural wallpaper.

Yikes, 11 back to back breakup songs in a row. Adele sings well and I like her voice, but damn, this ain't for me. I could at least appreciate the other Adele album on this list a little more because the break up songs were broken up by some cool sounding songs. Those are all absent in this album other than some slight bounce in River Lea. Otherwise just moping. Somebody really needs to bite the bullet and stay in a relationship with Adele so she can make better music. 2/5

Ela consegue mais que isso. O disco abre com duas das mais icônicas e populares canções da década 2010. Todo mundo conhece, e talvez isso seja até pro detrimento das faixas. Hello é uma canção ótima, especialmente pra mim que não a saturei e apenas a escutei algumas vezes, por algum milagre me livrei da constante exposição! Adele é uma cantora objetivamente sensacional. Mesmo se você odiar a sensibilidade Riachuelo-core de sua produção e estilo visual e sonoro, ainda deve admitir que seu vocal é inigualável. Histórico, lá no panteão junto dos melhores de todos os tempos. E devo dizer, não sou o maior fã da questão Renner-core. É uma pena, mas não dá pra negar que suas canções são fubangas em larga medida. As temáticas são básicas demais, não há progressão, e esse disco exemplifica bem isso, sendo praticamente 11 canções sobre o mesmo tópico. A produção é boa, mas é plástica. Não têm nada notável, único, audacioso em qualquer medida. O resultado final é decepcionante. Quando se inicia com uma canção como Hello você acaba criando certa expectativa, mas Adele nunca foge da zona de conforto. O que redime o álbum é a sua voz absolutamente angelical, como eu já havia mencionado, mas nem ela é capaz de te tirar do tédio que o disco causa ainda na sua primeira metade. Talvez um dia ela lance o ‘46’ e lá ela decida se abrir a outros horizontes. Um pouco de diversão, talvez? Swing? Qualquer coisa além de melodrama “sinto falta do meu ex”! Nesse disco aqui mesmo, é perceptível que as melhores canções são as mais animadas, como Water Under The Bridge ou Send My Love. Enfim, por enquanto, ficamos com este disco medíocre de uma artista com potencial infinito. 2/5

hello é iconico em niveis dificeis de explicar e a segunda música mantém o sarrafo. miss you absurdo os vocais. gostei de como a musica sobe no refrao de when we were young, mas nao gostei muito da lirica. remedy achei menos repetitiva. river lea é maneira. love in the dark perfeita. million years parecia q n acabava nunca. all i ask gostei pq parece um pouco mais diferente de como todas as outras soam. sweetest devotion bem diferente também, gostei. irrefutavel a voz da bicha.

I don't know 19 or 21 so fresh take, I gotta agree with her self-assessment that she's a young fogie. The writing sounds like the songs my mom would have a scotch and get misty eyed over, which I guess speaks to its universality. That little edge or timbre or whatever you would call it in her voice is the interesting part, it sounds halfway to Miley or Rihanna with none of the edge. So I guess I'll give 21 or 30 a listen.

It taints the interpretation of the whole thing: "Songs about how hard it is to be the ripe old age of 25. My life is practically over, boo hoo, what will I do? I'm all shriveled up and will never find true love. Remember being young? I miss it so." -_- uhh, ok I would have liked a few of these songs ('River Lea' is actually pretty amazing) had I not been listening to them through the lens of some barely grown woman pining over 'lost youth'. Gurl, I'm 42 and my midlife crisis isn't this dramatic. Pass. Thanks.

I am not a regular listener to Adele, but I generally like her, or at least admire the strength of her voice when I hear her songs. This collection of songs has the vocal strength, but lacks the substance of the "hits" in her catalog. Water Under the Bridge was the only track that really stood out to me that I would want to add to my regular rotation. The rest just make me want to listen to Adele songs I already know.
